Hispanics and the Religious Landscape
Statement of the Problem
Hispanics are transforming the nation s religious landscape, not only because of their
increasing numbers but also because they are practicing a distinctive form of
Christianity. Religious expressions associated with the Pentecostal and Charismatic
movements are a key attribute of worship for Hispanics in many of the major
religious traditions far more so than among non Latinos. Moreover, the growth of the
Hispanic population is leading to the emergence of Latino oriented churches across
the country . Although the vast majority of religious Hispanics identify as Catholic
(Pew, 2007), a significant minority practice various Pentecostal faiths. Many of those
are recent converts. The desire for a more direct, personal experience with God
emerges as by far the most potent motive for these conversions.
Modern Pentecostalism can find its roots in the early 20th century revivals of the
practices of Spirit infilling, ecstatic worship, and a strict adherence to the literal
interpretation of the Bible. Some consider one of the appeals of the Pentecostal
movement in its early years, as well as today, to be an inclusive, whosoever may
attitude of multiculturalism and evangelism (Longman, 2012). Though Pentecostal
organizations exist that are predominantly Caucasian, Black, or Hispanic, a growing
trend of incorporating all ethnicities within one congregation has led to a dramatic
increase in multicultural congregations within several of the established

In 2010, the United States took the first tangible step toward universal health care
coverage, with the legalization of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act of
2010. According to the U.S. Census Bureau s most recent report the total
population of the United States is nearly 309 million people (U.S. Census Bureau,
2010). In 2009, it was estimated 49 % of the population was covered under an

The U.S. Census Bureau reported in the 2010 census data that 33.9 % of the
population was under the age of 24, with 26.9% under the age of 19. This change
will protect the more than 7% of the population from vulnerability that might arise
from losing their insurance coverage. In total an estimated 2.3 million adult
children were enrolled in their parent s employer sponsored health plan due to the
Affordable Care Act (Kaiser Family Foundation, 2011). Reports show that the
young adult demographic recognize the importance of health care coverage and
have started to take advantage of this new benefit. Business reported an increase in
the enrolled number of adult children who would not be covered without the
Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act of 2010 (Kaiser Family Foundation,
2011). In addition to an expansion of who is covered by insurance plans there
were also significant changes made to what is covered by insurance plans.
Insurance carriers will no deny health care coverage to individuals because of pre
existing conditions (OpenCongress). This is an advantage for individuals that
cannot find coverage due to chronic conditions. The new legislation also prohibits a
health plan from canceling coverage of a member unless there is evidence of fraud

Examples Of Heroes In The Novel Fearless
Have you ever wonder Who is my heroes and what have they done to be my hero.
well in the novel Fearless there are many people who are heroes. This novel is about
a guy named Adam Brown who is a hero to a lot of people. Nobody had hated him,
everyone thought he was a hero or wanted to be exactly like him. He was a navy
SEAL and he always did dares that his team or anyone had dared him to do. In this
novel I chose four people who are heros in Fearless . Adam, Kelley, and both of Adam
s parents are all heroes in this novel.
The first hero in this novel Fearless is Adam Brown. He is the biggest hero of the of
the whole novel and also the main character. These are some of the few things that
Adam has done in the time that he lived. Adam had been a hero because he got off
drugs that he had been taking a long time. He had hung out with people that were
not good to hang around with. Some of his friends cared about him and what he
did but other like the ones that were on drugs with him didn t care. Adam was a

Because C# is a player in this new .NET world, you should have a good
understanding of what the .NET Framework provides and how it increases your
productivity.
The .NET Framework is made up of four parts, as shown in the Common Language
Runtime, a set of class libraries, a set of programming languages, and the ASP.NET
environment. The .NET Framework was designed with three goals in mind. First,
it was intended to make Windows applications much more reliable, while also
providing an application with a greater degree of security. Second, it was intended
to simplify the development of Web applications and services that not only work in
the traditional sense, but on mobile devices as well. Lastly, the framework was
designed to provide a single set of libraries that would work with multiple languages.
The following sections examine each of the .NET Framework components.
.NET Programming Language
The .NET Framework provides a set of tools that help you build code that works with
the.NET Framework. Microsoft provides a set of languages that are already .NET
compatible . C# is one of those languages. New versions of Visual Basic and Visual
C++ have also been created to take advantage of the .NET Framework, with a version
of Jscript.NET on the way. The development of .NET compatible languages is not
restricted to Microsoft. The .NET group at Microsoft has published documentation

Flexibility is the key to hospitality organization. At the operations level, familiarity

Interracial families are becoming more and more prevalent in the United States.
While parenting a biracial child may have its positives and negatives, a constant is
the subject of race will be brought up in their family. Biracial children and their
parents may face many challenges along the way with self identity which may

Modernism And Its Impact On Society
After the events of WWII, to say that America had changed drastically was an
understatement; with the entirety of the Cold War, the Korean and Vietnam wars,
and all the other political strife at home and abroad, America during this time could
be considered an era of conflicting ideals. As a result of this change of times, literature
changed it s perspective; effectively, the transition from modernist ideals to
postmodernist ideals. Much like modernism, however, post modernism offered to
reject ideals presented by both prior literary trends and the popular ideas of their
time; yet for postmodernism, the rejection mostly dealt with homogeneity (a
conformed universal standard defined by advancements in American quality of life)
and how literature deconstructs the ideas of homogeneity (Byam 2259 2260). Yet
many of these deconstructions during this era ended up clashing due to increased
influences of psychological and sociological advancements, which gave better
understanding of human nature; which then lead to a major schism between literary
writers and critics. As a result, many writers during that era flourished from that clash
of ideals (albeit long after their works were published); yet one, in particular, stands
out: Flannery O Connor. Specifically, O Connor is a notable postmodernist American
writer out of her own take of the movement: a witty deconstructionof conventional
regionalist tropes. Flannery O Connor, to briefly summarize her life, was born in

Data Encryption Essay
ENCRYPTION Introduction Often there has been a need to protect information from
prying eyes . In the electronic age, information that could otherwise benefit or
educate a group or individual can also be used against such groups or individuals.
Industrial espionage among highly competitive businesses often requires that
extensive security measures be put into place. And, those who wish to exercise their
personal freedom, outside of the oppressive nature of governments, may also wish to
encrypt certain information to avoid suffering the penalties of going against the
wishes of those who attempt to control. Still, the methods of data encryption and
decryption are relatively straightforward, and easily mastered. I have been doing data

But, by the use of more than one translation table, especially when implemented in
a pseudo random order, this adaptation makes code breaking relatively difficult. An
example of this method might use translation table A on all of the even bytes, and
translation table B on all of the odd bytes. Unless a potential code breaker knows
that there are exactly 2 tables, even with both source and encrypted data available
the deciphering process is relatively difficult. Similar to using a translation table,
data repositioning lends itself to use by a computer, but takes considerably more
time to accomplish. A buffer of data is read from the input, then the order of the
bytes (or other chunk size) is rearranged, and written out of order . The decryption
program then reads this back in, and puts them back in order . Often such a method
is best used in combination with one or more of the other encryption methods
mentioned here, making it even more difficult for code breakers to determine how to
decipher your encrypted data. As an example, consider an anagram. The letters are all
there, but the order has been changed. Some anagrams are easier than others to
decipher, but a well written anagram is a brain teaser nonetheless, especially if it s
intentionally misleading. My favorite methods, however, involve something that only
computers can do: word/byte rotation and XOR bit masking. If you
Comparing Heart Of Darkness And Recitatif By Joseph
Conrad
Race, Ethnicity, and Nationality are a vital part of any individual. The overall
population on our planet is growing and becoming more diverse. The importance of
these things in American Society is very complicated. Race represents the evolution
of culture from many years ago, Ethnicity symbolizes who we are and how we are
influenced, and Nationality tells us where we come from. Although there are many
theories; race, ethnicity, and nationality are socially formed and is real in society.
The affects they have on peer groups, media, and children have a big impact on the
way people live on a day to day basis.
Postcolonial literature addresses the problems of decolonization of many non
western countries becoming independent from western control. Postcolonial
literature focuses on racial relationships and the effects of race itself. An example of
Postcolonial literature is Joseph Conrad s text, Heart of Darkness . This text
described a sailor s journey up the Congo River. The novel also allowed readers to
understand his feelings towards the empire and the ruthless treatment of the African
natives.
Another Postcolonial text that brings race and ethnicity together is Toni Morrison s

Before Breakfast is a short gloomy play by Eugene O Neill. Eugene O Neill was
born in 1888 in New York City. He is the only American dramatist to ever win the
Nobel Prize for literature. Before Breakfast is set in the Greenwich Village section
of New York City, in a small one room flat on Christopher Street. The flat consists
of a kitchen and dinning area. There are only two characters in this drama. Mrs.
Roland who is the only speaking character and her husband Alfred. Alfred s hand is
seen once in the play, but not much else. This is symbolic of an absentee husband or

The child, the reason the couple married, born dead. Alfred unable to sell his
writings, is depressed. His depression contributes to a self destructive lifestyle,
dragging his wife along with him. It was inevitable the marriage would fail.
Mrs. Rowland, the protagonist, is portrayed as the stereotypical nagging wife.
While a flat character, she is very realistic. Her level of diction implies her lack of
education, she is also bitter towards her husband. Her bitterness is not unfounded.
Alfred is of no help, Heaven knows I do my part and more going out sewing every
day while you play the gentleman and loaf around bar rooms with that good for
nothing lot of artists from the Square (Jacobs 1211). Mrs. Rowland s husband is
adulterous and can not hold down a job. Mrs. Rowland loves her husband, although
she does not like the way he treats her. She exhibited love by continually enabling
him, paying the rent, providing food, and cleaning up after him. She regards Alfred
s depression as laziness. Not that I ve got any doubts about your being lazy enough
to stay in bed forever (Jacobs 1211). After learning Alfred s lover Helen, is pregnant,
her frustration and disappointments only intensify.
Alfred the antagonist is a flat character, but also very realistic. He is the stereotypical
insensitive, substandard husband. Mrs. Rowland thought that Alfred loved her when
he didn t let his father buy her off. Alfred was suppose to be
Columbine High School Massacre Observation Report
Unit 1: Columbine High School Massacre
Part One
In the first part of the workshop, we explored the dramatic potential of still images,
based on the stimulus of photographs given from the columbine massacre, and
enhanced the impact of these images through the use of thought tracking.
The photos we chose portrayed the destruction and pain of the aftermath caused by
the columbine high school massacre vividly. As a group of three, we depicted the
parents of a victim of the massacre at their child s grave. I played the role of the
father in this freeze frame. As a group, we felt that contrasting facial expressions
would best portray the image dramatically. Whilst the victim displayed an extremely
neutral facial expression, connoting his lifeless nature and removal from the
continued existence of the community, my facial expression was purposefully tense
in order to demonstrate the pain and loss my character was experiencing.
Furthermore, both my face and the character of the mother s were faced downwards
and away from the surroundings, deliberately concealed, highlighting the
concentration of the two characters in blocking out external stimuli in order to focus
on pure emotion.

Canada s war efforts. As stated, the military efforts from Canada were huge and it
played a huge role in the defeat of the Axis. But, it is important to note that it was
not just military efforts that Canada put forth towards its war efforts, there were
other factors involved as well. Canada invoked conscription during this time as
part of their war efforts. This even created problems between English and French
Canada. As the romantic idea of war was destroyed when people realized the
amount of casualties at war, many men did not volunteer to go to war themselves.
The people who went to war came back in terrible conditions. In 1917, Sam Hughes

Milton’s Paradise Lost Essay examples
Milton s Paradise Lost has been praised as being the greatest English epic of all time,
most stunningly in its author s depiction of the parents of humanity, Adam and Eve.
How Milton chose to portray the original mother and father has been a focus of much
criticism with contemporary readers. One of the main subjectsof these comments is
in reference to Eve, who, according to many, is a trivial character that is most
definitely inferior to her mate. Nonetheless, many do not recognize that, after the
fateful Fall, she becomes a much more evolved character. When Eve is introduced to
the storyline of the epic, her character is shallow and extremely undeveloped, meant
simply for display. She is quite firmly set as being inferior to her mate... Show more

He does this because the scene happens in the past and therefore he uses her to
discuss it rather than confusing the reader with a flashback type scene. He also has
Eve relate what happened to prove that Eve must indeed be beautiful if she herself
was taken by her looks as she discusses how she pined with vain desire (IV, 466) for
the image of her reflection. In fact, Eve s beauty is discussed repeatedly. For
example, when Satan first sees the human couple, he is overtaken by Eve s beauty
and submissive charms (IV, 498). Milton even goes so far to stress her beauty and
charms as to have her stun Satan himself with it. Actually, as Satan is on his mission
to seduce Eve into eating the apple, her beauty overtakes him.
If chance with nymphlike step fair virgin pass, What pleasing seemed, for her now
pleases more, She most, and in her looks sums all delight; Such pleasure took the
Serpent to behold This flowery plant, the sweet recess of Eve Thus early, thus alone;
her heavenly form Angelic, but more soft and feminine, Her graceful innocence, her

Parks and Recreation Districts
GENERAL PARKS AND RECREATION DISTRICTS
The use of special districts to administer parks and recreation services originates
from a successful experiment by New York City in SSSS. The city created a
commission to depoliticize the provision of parks and recreation services, which led
to the development of Central Park. Following this model of success, a number of
states now have some form of park district that span a range of services, including
open space protection, land conservation, environmental education, and leisure
activities. Local governments increasingly offload parks and recreation
responsibilities to special districts because they require large capital investments
and they benefit from district boundaries drawn according to public use. The
impact of tax limitations and pressure on general funds also encourages
development of park districts. Flickinger and Murphy () provide insight from a
park director in Illinois who believes special taxing status is essential because park
and recreation departments tend to take a back seat to streets, police, fire, utilities,
and other mandatory services when time came to set or cut budgets and hire qualified
personnel (1990, p. 153).Though parks and recreation are a common form of district,
research evaluating its success is limited in both quantity and scope.
The vast majority of research on parks and recreation districts is concentrated in the
Midwest where they are most prevalent. The Illinois Park and Recreation
Points of Disagreement
Points of Disagreement
The Golden Rule is an ethical idea shared in various religious texts and different
ancient philosophers statements around the world, and it was paraphrased as What
you do not wish done to yourself, do not do to others . Kwame Anthony Appiah
argues in the fifth Chapter (Moral Disagreement) of his book Cosmopolitanism that
the Golden Rule is not as helpful as it might at first seem , and he gives several
examples to support his argument. However, I don t think these examples are
solid enough to overthrow the Golden Rule. Because we can only discuss the pros
and cons of the Golden Rule after we share this idea. Besides, I have a different
view toward the Golden Rule than Appiah. I prefer to believe it is a passive,
constricted admonition that keep society in basic order. The spirit transited by the
Golden Rule is especially needed in the society which is not based on a full fledged
legal system, and the Golden Rule is also served as a necessary ethic principle to
guarantee the cross cultural conversation.
Appiah argues that the Golden Rule is hard to be applied in practice because it is
hard to understand and share others values, and the Golden Rule is powerless facing
the differences in values. The example he uses is that a doctor wanted to save his
patient s life through blood transfusion. The problem is that his patient was a racist
and the blood came from an African American. The doctor should not do nothing,
however the patient may refuse

Analysis Of Joplin s One Night Stand
her song, One Night Stand, Joplin openly discusses having a casual sex encounter
with a man and clearly defines that she wants nothing more beyond physical contact.
And I m feelin low an everybody looks the same.
Well, you catch my eye, and then you come on strong an try to make your play.
Just because we loved tonight, please don t you think it s gonna stay that way, (Joplin

In this song, Joplin exposes a taboo subject of premarital and casual sex for young
women. The first wave of feminism was beginning during this time period and,
despite the shame and guilt associated with the promiscuity of women, Joplin
celebrated her freedom of experiencing carnal pleasures to symbolize ownership of
her body. These actions are both considered ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

As a woman who is smaller in frame, I have often been degraded by other young
women for supposedly not having the same insecurities or issues as regular women.
The media s portrayal of women in general seems to be adapting to a more
boisterous and explicit society: large breasts are juxtaposed with burgers, bikini clad
bodies caress beer cans. The masses witness the deconstruction of the female body in
everyday advertising. We compartmentalize and focus on the parts rather than the
whole. This is a mentality that categorizes and stereotypes the people of my
generation. Racism, sexism, homophobia these issues are still prevalent and are
cultivated through misrepresentation and ignorance. We are blind to our primordial
culture as advertisements portray our generation as one of the pinnacle of human
achievement. They flaunt the words new, innovative, bolder, and bigger to try to
convince us that they have the resources to achieve perfection. The messages that
are sent to our youth say that there is room for improvement on the individual and a
goal to reach, but in reality it is our society that should be the focus of criticism. Our
anxieties overwhelm and consume us and older generations perceive this as egotism,
even though our youth is facing societal pressure and judgement comparable to the
youth of 50 years ago. The difference is that no one is recognizing the fact that we
are victims of institutionalized degradation and somehow we have become the ones to
Narrative Essay On Lifeguards
My daughter s first birthday, which was July 18th, 2007, is a day that I remember
like it was yesterday. We had already celebrated her birthday with the family over
the weekend, so I had just planned to do something small with her. I decided I would
take her to Water Works, a community family aquatic center that we lived by. When I
was younger, my familywould get a membership every summer, and I couldn t wait
to do the same with Lauren. My sister, Amanda, who was watching our four year old
nephew Charlie, was off that day, so they came along too.
Walking through the gates it took me back to my childhood with the smell of the

Her eye was red and looked like it was swelling. Amanda told me I should have the

Lauren just couldn t stop sobbing and her poor eye was getting worse. The life

A Thin Layer Of Fiction Are Looking Backward By
Edward...
Throughout the years, literature has often been used as a means to spread social
critique. When it unfavorable or even dangerous to publicly speak out against the
society of the time, the written word can act as a shield. Adding a mask of fiction
to these novels allows the author to get their message out to the public who
otherwise would not take the time for such issues. Two novels that exemplify this
social critique behind a thin layer of fiction are Looking Backward by Edward
Bellamy and Herland by Charlotte Perkins Gilman. Both of these novels offer a
critique to certain aspects of American society during the time period, and do so in
very similar ways. Each of these novels, Looking Backward and Herland, depict
utopian societies in order to fully illustrate the issues that the authors see in their
current society. Although the issues being addressed may be different, the way
Bellamy and Gilman discuss them contain numerous parallels. Ranging from the
cause of these utopian societies, to the mindset of the individuals living in them, both
novels are very similar in their approach to social critique of America. Even the
differences between the two are caused by common reasons. These parallels show the
underlying format used by both Bellamy and Gilman that allowed them to identify
the flaws in American society and offer solutions to them. One such parallel found
within the novels is the cause of the utopian societies. Both Looking Backward and
Herland depict communities
Northern California Transportation System

faults: Calaveras, Concord Green Valley, Greenville, Hayward, Rodgers Creek, and
San Gregorio Fault [1]. After the Loma Prieta earthquake of 1989, propagating from
the Santa Cruz Mountains, caused approximately $6 Billion dollars in damages [2].
Many infrastructure agencies altered their design and operations standards to
prepare themselves for the next major earthquake. The Bay Area Rapid Transit

changes so above and below ground infrastructures are prepared to withstand potential

which require a higher level of attention than others. In a similar fashion the
Integrity Management Program has integrated the use of software such as the
geographic information system (GIS) for their Gas Transmission Earthquake Plan

in real time with the likelihood of failure. With the use of GIS, a response algorithm
is created that uses known parameters such as soil, geographic, and topographic

Gary Ridgway Theory
For instance, the case of the Green River Killer (Hickey, 2010:24) may offer
another possible explanation for what caused Jack the Ripper to become a serial
killer. Gary Ridgway is America s most notorious serial killer (Hickey, 2010), he
holds the record for the most serial murder convictions in the history of the United
States (Hickey, 2010:24). Ridgway is responsible for the deaths of 48 women
(Hickey, 2010). Like Jack the Ripper, Ridgway selected prostitutes as his intended
victims (Paley, 1995). The social learning theory may offer an explanation for why
Ridgway, and the Ripper, may have become serial killers. The social learning theory
suggests that behaviours are learnt by observing the behaviour of others (Jones,
1998:355), therefore if a person witnesses aggressive attitudes, this may increase the
chances of that person acting in the same negative manner (Choon Chan, 2012:52)....

The experiment found that the children, who were exposed to adults acting
aggressively towards a doll, were largely inclined to also behave violently towards
the doll, compared to those who were not exposed to adult violence (Demers,2011).
According to Bandura, children learn behaviour by repeating what they see adults
do (Conradie and Golding, 2013). Ridgway himself grew up in a dysfunctional home
environment, where he witnessed and was subjected to both physical and emotional
abuse from his mother (Hickey, 2010:24). According to the social learning theory, as
Ridgway had observed faulty behaviour (Weatherby, 2009:5) exhibited by his mother,
he himself would be more likely to demonstrate the same sort of violent behaviour.
Additionally, the social learning theory may also give us an insight into why
Ridgway targeted prostitutes, perhaps prostitutes were his objects of hate because
they symbolized his

AIDS in Bahamians, ages 15 44
A major cause of death of Bahamians in the age group 15 to 44 is AIDS. This is a
result of unprotected sex, ignorance and the reluctancy to get tested and treated.
Many Bahamians engage in sexual intercourse without the use of contraceptives.
Ignorant to the dangers of AIDS, they believe that nothing will happen. When and if
there is a slight belief that one is infected with AIDS, Bahamians tend to hesitate to

Moreover, 93% of females can transmit the AIDS virus to males during unprotected
sex. Furthermore, 94% of the combined sample recognized that the AIDS virus can
be transmitted through heterosexual relations. In addition, Rodgers and Rolle state
that only 32% of the sexually active combined sample ensured that they always
used condoms during sex. This means that 68% of the sexually active adolescents
in this survey are conducting in unprotected sex which can very well, lead to
AIDS. It is evident that in this age group, these is reckless and irresponsible
engagement in sexual activity which has led to the dangerous AIDS epidemic.
After interviewing Ms. Sandra Smith, age 21, it was found that she was a prime
example of a young Bahamian engaging in reckless unprotected sex adding to the
AIDS epidemic. Ms. Smith said, I was 20 when I found out I had AIDS. I have
about six serious partners before I got tested. I had sex with them all without using
protection . When Ms. Smith was asked why she did not use a condom she responded
by saying, I really do not know why I did not use a condom. I guess it was all in the
heat of the moment. It was all fun, at the time ! Ms. Smith ended the interview by
saying that, I regret doing what I did, my stupid actions, not using protection. It is
the reason that I have AIDS. I am not proud of my actions but it is the truth. I have
AIDS and I will probably live a short life because I had unprotected sex .
The Spread Of Internet Usage
The spread of Internet usage has impacted the retail sector. As can be seen, many
retailers began to use online channels, as they take advantage of one of the most
successful platforms of trade (Limayem et al., 2000; Levy and Weitz, 2001; Shim et
al., 2001). The growth of new online shopping channels catches the attention of
consumers who have become excited to try this new platform. Although Internet
shopping channels seem to be growing, the growth of grocery shopping via online
has been slower than other forms of retail (Yan and Opperwal, 2006). As a result of
this, much research into online grocery shopping has attempted to understand the
underlying behaviour of grocery shopping via the Internet. The studies investigated
several aspects such as customer adoption of online grocery shopping (Verhoef and
Langerak, 2001; Hansen, 2005), consumer response to online grocery shopping
(Morganosky and Cude, 2000), customers attitudes toward online grocery shopping
(Ramus and Nielsen, 2005; Huang and Oppewal, 2006), and the Technology
Adoption Model (TAM) (Kurnia and Chien, 2003; Ahn, 2005). TAM is very popular
in explaining the adoption process of technology. There are various studies that
applied TAM such as those studying health care systems (Holden and Karsh, 2010)
and e commerce acceptance (Pavlou, 2003). Being an example of technological
advancement, online grocery shopping can thus be studied through this lens.

Medieval Manor Essay
Medieval manors were self sustaining parts of feudalism. Manors contained the
lord s mansion, called the manor house, the lord s demesne, cruck houses for the
peasants, barns, a mill, orchards, woodlands, fish ponds, an outdoor oven, and a
place to keep bees. The manor was split up into farmland, woodlands, pastureland,
meadows, and at least one village (Jovinelly and Netelkos 9). The villages weren t
very large, they usually had less than 600 people (Cels 6); but, Each village had
peasants homes, a church, a mill where grain was ground into flour, ovens in which
bread was baked, and a forge, where a blacksmith made horseshoes and iron tools

The villages were self sufficient (Cels 6). They produced their own food, clothing,
and farming tools (Cels 6). Peasants grew crops in the fields, and livestock grazed in

families, their lord, and to sell to other towns (Cels 8). They farmed grains like oats,
barley, and wheat, which were then made into flour to bake with (Jovinelly and
Netelkos 12). The forests on the manor provided the people with wood, which was
used for building and firewood, and acorns to feed pigs (Cels 5). Nobles on the
manor hunted deer, bears, wolves and pigs (Cels 5). These animals, along with
sheep, were used for food as well as wool (Jovinelly and Netelkos 12). Manors also

What Is A Horse Riding Essay
Regardless of the way that people may not think about it as an exercise when they

Carl Jung s Theory Of Psychology
Sigmund Freud along with Carl Jung are among the main pioneers of psychology,
they can be viewed as the early founders and most influential thinkers, as they
contributed significantly to the modern science of psychology. They earnestly
searched to understand the human psychological frailties in their entire lives trying to
address and understand the human s internal changes and struggles. This paper will
compare and contrast Feud s theories to those of Jung. Though their theories differ,
they have had a great impact on our discernment of the human mind and their
influences have led to the successful development of the wide range of human
distress (Bluhm, 2006).
Freud s point of view of the entire human psyche was from a sexual perspective; his
theory assumed that the human mind had three basic components: the id (instincts),
the ego (reality) and the superego (morality). The components were often conflicting
and they usually shaped the personality. His theory is also denoted to as
psychoanalytic theory of development since Sigmund Freud is the father of
psychoanalytic psychology.
On the other hand, Jung developed his theory based on the belief that human psyche
has undeniable religious nature. He theorized that people should be taught to
consolidate the conscious mind and the unconscious with a process he termed
individuation, for them to become whole. Jung had a wide knowledge of religion,
mythology, and philosophy, and in particular the symbolism connected to the
Coronary Collateral Circulation And Humans Are Often
More...
Studies looking at coronary collateral circulation in humans are typically more
controversial. Skeptics have stated that collateral development is probably due to
the progression of coronary artery disease rather than an effect of exercise training.
In addition, direct measurement of collateral growth, typically through coronary
angiographic techniques, is difficult and may have severe limitations due to low
levels of resolution of vessels (Heaps et al., 2011). Small vessels involved in the
coronary collateral system ( 100Ојm) are incredibly difficult to view
angiographically, so the full magnitude of collateralization may not be assessed or
may be drastically underestimated (Heaps et al., 2011; Belardinelli et al., 1998).
An additional approach that studies have used to measure collateral circulation
development is to measure the rate pressure product in patients with coronary artery
disease (CAD). Increases in rate pressure product at the beginning of myocardial
ischemia have been found and is potentially related to increased myocardial
oxygen supply from collateral growth stimulation (Senti et al., 1998). After
exercise training, coronary patients have also seen a 29% increase in coronary
flow reserve in response to adenosine (Hambrecht et al., 1993). Patients with
chronic CAD and impaired LV systolic function who exercised at 60% of peak
oxygen uptake 3 times a week for 8 weeks saw a significant increase in mean
collateral circulation score and improvements in wall

There are to branches of medicine currently practiced in the United States
Osteopathic Medicine and Allopathic Medicine. Throughout this paper I am going to
discuss the history, practices and beliefs of Osteopathic Medicine as well as describe
the differences between Allopathic Medicine and Osteopathic Medicine.
Osteopathic Medicine has a deep rooted belief in its core values and puts a very
strong emphasis on non invasive, hands on holistic medical practices. Osteopathic
medicine puts all its focus on its belief that the manipulation of bones, joints and
muscles can be used to diagnose and treat a variety of ailments. Osteopathic medical
principles believe that the body is capable of healing, maintaining and regulating
itself without the use of pharmaceutical drugs or invasive procedures that are seen as
doing more harm than good.
During the early 19th century there was the beginning of a new movement to
revolutionize medicine. In 1892 a physician by the name of Andrew Still, MD as a
protest against the conventional medical system founded the American School of
Osteopathy in Kirksville, MO. Still believed strongly that the current medical system
of the time was full of corruption, not efficient and was in the habit of treating the
disease and illness and did not worry about the underlying issues that caused the
affliction to begin with. Still founded Osteopathy during a time in which he believed
that conventional medicine was doing more harm than it was good.
Essay On Transcendentalism In The Scarlet Letter
Nathaniel Hawthorne was an anti transcendentalist who lived during the 19th century.
Obsessed with his great uncle, judge Hathorne, he studied the Puritan way of life.
Hawthorne wrote an array of short stories and books about Puritan societies. His anti
transcendentalist ideas and beliefs are seen all throughout his pieces of work. In in
one of his books, The Scarlet Letter, he depicts the lives of Hester Prynne, her
daughter Pearl, and the people in the town with her. Hester is the town seamstress
and she commits adultery with Mr. Dimmesdale, the reverend. Hester has a child
whom she names Pearl. As punishment for her crime she has to wear a scarlet letter A
on her chest. In the Scarlet Letter Hawthorne uses Reverend Dimmesdale, a... Show

This adds to the theme of guilt by having Dimmesdale being guilty all the time for
his sins and his actions in the book being motivated by this feeling. Second,
Hawthorne uses a leech as a symbol for guilt. Roger Chillingworth is the town s
doctor is also Hester s Husband. When Chillingworth first came to the new world he
went ahead of head of Hester, being captured by Indians, everyone thought he was
dead. When he found out about Hester committing adultery, infuriated he vowed to
seek revenge on whoever Hester committed adultery with. Hathorne explains that
Dimmesdale, like many other personages of especial sanctity...was haunted either by
Satan himself, or Satan s emissary, in the guise of Roger Chillingworth. (Hawthorne
124), Hawthorne is saying that Dimmesdale is haunted by the devil and that
Chillingworth is the devil. This shows that a leech is a symbol of guilt because in
the 17th century doctors were called leeches. Chillingworth is literally being called a
leech and is sucking the life out of Dimmesdale by haunting him. To further support
that Chillingworth is being called a leech by Hawthorne, chapter 9 of the scarlet
letter is called The Leech and the chapter is all about Dimmesdale and Chillingworth.
Hawthorne tells us trusting no man as his friend, he could not recognize his enemy
when the latter actually appeared. Hawthorne is saying that Dimmesdale is so
blinded by guilt that he cannot
Living On Campus Vs. Living Off Campus
College students have multiple options when it comes to deciding where they
would like to live while they are attending school. Students have the choice to live
on campus in a dorm or live off campus. Deciding where to live when attending
college can sometimes be a difficult process because there are a lot of things to
consider whether if it s the environment, the people, or even the cost. Both living on
campus and living off of the campus has its pros and cons, but it is entirely up to the
student, each student has a different situation and the decision made should be
thoroughly thought out. Personally, I feel that living on campus may be the best
option for most collegestudents since it is more beneficial for students and their needs.
Becoming a young adult can be difficult, it is a stage where being independent is
very important. Some students who are living off campus will state that it is a
great feeling to have a place of their own, they feel as if they are more independent
because they can create their own rules and live as they please. When living off of
campus students are given more privacy, because in a dorm students have to share a
room with at least one other person. Students are able to personalize their own living
space with the decor of their own choosing. Not only does the student gain
independence, but they will also become more responsible. Living off campus is
thought as paying a monthly rent and other utilities, so the student will have to work a
Indian Consumers Spending Patterns On Frozen Desserts
Indian Consumers Spending Patterns on Frozen Desserts VishakhaRaut
AniketAmbardekar Abstract The research paper talks about how product
attributes and demographic variables affect the decisions of consumers to re
purchase frozen desserts. The data was collected from sixty three respondents
across various age groups, income levels, gender, etc. Vadilal s, Amul and Mother
Diary have a higher usage rate as compared to other brands. Frozen desserts are
generally preferred during special occasions than regular use. Moreover, there
were relationships between re purchase decision and demographics.
INTRODUCTION Frozen desserts is the universal name given to desserts that are
made by freezing liquids, semi solids and sometimes even solids. They can be
based on flavoured water i.e. shave ice, sorbets, snow cones, etc., on fruit purees
like sorbet, on milk and cream i.e. ice creams, on custards, on mousse and many
others. The term Frozen Dessert is often used for products that are identical to the
taste and texture of ice cream but do not meet the legalized definition of the term.
Frozen Desserts are often made with vegetable oil i.e.mellorine as opposed to milk
or cream. In the recent past there has been a substantial evolution in the category of
ice cream and frozen desserts. A decade ago this category was limited to traditional
flavours of ice creams such as vanilla, chocolate, kesarpista, mango, elaichi,
butterscotch, kulfi, etc. In the recent years, this category has grown and
The Controversial Idea Of Drug Testing Welfare Recipients
Taxpayers should provide support to those in need; recipients, in return, should
engage in responsible and constructive behavior as a condition of receiving aid.
(Robert Rector 2)
As I worked on the controversial idea of drug testing welfare recipients, the most
important thing I leaned is that Kline and colleagues surveyed substance use among a
representative sample of welfare recipients in New Jersey. They found that 12 percent
admitted that they used cocaine, but 25 percent tested positive for cocaine use based
on hair sample analyses. Now that I know that, I can better understand the larger issue
that the drug epidemic is monumental in the United States, and unfortunately we can
not simply take peoples word on if they are using or ... Show more content on

Although testing for welfare often receives backlash there is information that it
would decrease drug abuse, that people deserve to know where their money is
going, and it would ultimately save money. Drug abuse is a huge epidemic in
America, and we need to come for all angles to try and stop it. One of which can be
from the welfare side. Drug testing is thought to decrease drug abuse with people
on welfare. If people know that they have to pass a drug test to be able to get
money for their necessities, it may encourage them to never use in the first place.
It also might help them realize they have a problem and help give them a reason to
get clean. This is important because an addict needs something to drive them to
want to get clean, and knowing they will not receive government assistance if
using can be a huge reason to be clean. Also drug testing will make the state aware
and available to help the welfare recipients. The Mayor of New York Rudolph W.
Giuliani says, Welfare recipients who test positive for drugs would be required to
enroll in a drug treatment program or join a waiting list for treatment to keep getting
benefits. In Rhode Island a law bans recipients who fail a drug test from getting
welfare for a year, unless they complete a substance abuse treatment successfully.
Once they do complete treatment they can reapply after six months. Both of these
states are giving people that fail a second chance, and maybe their only chance.
Stoker s Treatment Of Women In Dracula
Dracula still maintains a strong connection to modern day readers through its
similarities to female vampire myths from Europe, many including the male
characters dominating the females. The Dearg Due, an Irish vampire, is an
example of a creature similar to those in Stoker s novel. According to Kim, an
author on Got Ireland, the Dearg Due is a legendary beauty, with blood red lips
and pale blonde hair, but before she was turned into a monster, she had been given
to a cruel man and suffered terrible mental and physical abuse at the hands of her
new husband. As a mortal, she had no influence on her life, and was married off to a
abominable man just so her power hungry father could earn some more money and a
higher social status. Her life
Why Did Sodastream Fail In Advertising
Scarlett Johansson s Sodastream ad fails on a number of levels in its bid to
become a viral marketing sensation. The first major issue that occurs during the
advertisement itself is Scarlett s statement to the effect of how do I make this go
viral? I believe that the use of this statement alone was enough to end the ads
chances of going viral, as nobody feels comfortable sharing a video that doesn t
feel genuine in its attempt at reaching consumers. It similar to one of this
generations major problems with advertisements that fail to feel like anything
more than a hollow attempt to sell a product. The other examples given don t
explicitly ask to go viral (with the exception of the second most poorly received
video, Jennifer Anniston s Smartwater), and they all received millions of extra
views and feel more authentic as a result. The message or goal should never feel
forced in any advertisement, and Sodastream certainly failed in that regard. A
second issue with this ad is the belief that it had any of the characteristics to support
a viral campaign. The message fails to provide any social value as the consumer
doesn t learn anything new or exciting about the product or the brand, and the ad fails
at giving any chance or reason for engagement. Everyone understands Sodastream and

He sets it up, quickly, to show that the process is simple, and hurriedly produces
some Sodastream soda with just a glass of water and some of their syrup. He brings
it back out to dinner, and Jennifer s character is shocked and thoroughly impressed
with the quality. Dave, now feeling confident, continues the date and does far better
than anyone would have expected up until this point. We are left with a happy scene
at the table, and a shot of the Sodastream box laying on the floor, knowing that it was
this that saved the date and helped to give Dave the confidence he
Essay about The Heroism of Minerva Mirabal Who was
the...
How do the Mirabal sisters compare to colonial patriots? Both fought for freedom.
Both risked their lives to gain their freedom. And even though all of the Mirabal
sisters were involved,
I believe that Minerva was the most courageous. She fought for her personal freedom,
she fought for the rights of women, and she even brought her own family into the
rebellion to assist her in fighting against tyranny.. Through this essay I will explain
my overall opinion and show that
Minerva was the bravest and most devoted of the Mirabal sisters.
Minerva first began to show her bravery when she wanted to go to a boarding school.
She was not afraid of being away from home, even as a child. She wants to

This was at the formal dance when Trujillo began to dance with her and they began to
talk. Minerva thought to use the opportunity to her advantage and requests that
Trujillo allow her into law school. Despite her attempts, Trujillo ignores her pleas
responding with The university is no place for a woman these days, and he then
continues to attempt to fondle her. Trujillo continue to try to seduce
Minerva, who quickly stands against Trujillo and states, I m afraid I m not for
conquest. responding to Trujillo saying that Minerva would make a nice conquest.
She realizes that she has failed to persuade Trujillo and attempts to leave, but
Trujillo holds her against him. When she attempts to pull away a second time,
Trujillo becomes quite vulgar. The third time that she attempts to leave and fails,
Minerva slaps Trujillo without contemplating the consequences. This obviously
angers Trujillo. The Mirabals depart from the party to avoid any punishment. Over
the next few days, the Mirabals attempt to apologize for leaving the party earlier,
but are eventually called in by Trujillo. Trujillo begins to make small talk about his
dice and of the Mirabals breaking the law and leaving the part early. Minerva then
raises a question about the dice and of her request to be allowed to go to law school.
Trujillo expands this when he states, I ll tell you what. I ll let you toss for the
privilege. You win, you get your wish. I win, I get mine. , Trujillo s wish being to
bed Minerva.

  • 4. Hispanics and the Religious Landscape Statement of the Problem Hispanics are transforming the nation s religious landscape, not only because of their increasing numbers but also because they are practicing a distinctive form of Christianity. Religious expressions associated with the Pentecostal and Charismatic movements are a key attribute of worship for Hispanics in many of the major religious traditions far more so than among non Latinos. Moreover, the growth of the Hispanic population is leading to the emergence of Latino oriented churches across the country . Although the vast majority of religious Hispanics identify as Catholic (Pew, 2007), a significant minority practice various Pentecostal faiths. Many of those are recent converts. The desire for a more direct, personal experience with God emerges as by far the most potent motive for these conversions. Modern Pentecostalism can find its roots in the early 20th century revivals of the practices of Spirit infilling, ecstatic worship, and a strict adherence to the literal interpretation of the Bible. Some consider one of the appeals of the Pentecostal movement in its early years, as well as today, to be an inclusive, whosoever may attitude of multiculturalism and evangelism (Longman, 2012). Though Pentecostal organizations exist that are predominantly Caucasian, Black, or Hispanic, a growing trend of incorporating all ethnicities within one congregation has led to a dramatic increase in multicultural congregations within several of the established

In total an estimated 2.3 million adult children were enrolled in their parent s employer sponsored health plan due to the Affordable Care Act (Kaiser Family Foundation, 2011). Business reported an increase in the enrolled number of adult children who would not be covered without the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act of 2010 (Kaiser Family Foundation, 2011). In addition to an expansion of who is covered by insurance plans there were also significant changes made to what is covered by insurance plans. Insurance carriers will no deny health care coverage to individuals because of pre existing conditions (OpenCongress). This is an advantage for individuals that cannot find coverage due to chronic conditions. The new legislation also prohibits a health plan from canceling coverage of a member unless there is evidence of fraud (OpenCongress). • 13. Modernism And Its Impact On Society After the events of WWII, to say that America had changed drastically was an understatement; with the entirety of the Cold War, the Korean and Vietnam wars, and all the other political strife at home and abroad, America during this time could be considered an era of conflicting ideals. As a result of this change of times, literature changed it s perspective; effectively, the transition from modernist ideals to postmodernist ideals. Much like modernism, however, post modernism offered to reject ideals presented by both prior literary trends and the popular ideas of their time; yet for postmodernism, the rejection mostly dealt with homogeneity (a conformed universal standard defined by advancements in American quality of life) and how literature deconstructs the ideas of homogeneity (Byam 2259 2260). Yet many of these deconstructions during this era ended up clashing due to increased influences of psychological and sociological advancements, which gave better understanding of human nature; which then lead to a major schism between literary writers and critics. As a result, many writers during that era flourished from that clash of ideals (albeit long after their works were published); yet one, in particular, stands out: Flannery O Connor. Specifically, O Connor is a notable postmodernist American writer out of her own take of the movement: a witty deconstructionof conventional regionalist tropes. Flannery O Connor, to briefly summarize her life, was born in Savannah, Georgia

  • 15. Data Encryption Essay ENCRYPTION Introduction Often there has been a need to protect information from prying eyes . In the electronic age, information that could otherwise benefit or educate a group or individual can also be used against such groups or individuals. Industrial espionage among highly competitive businesses often requires that extensive security measures be put into place. And, those who wish to exercise their personal freedom, outside of the oppressive nature of governments, may also wish to encrypt certain information to avoid suffering the penalties of going against the wishes of those who attempt to control. Still, the methods of data encryption and decryption are relatively straightforward, and easily mastered. I have been doing data ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... But, by the use of more than one translation table, especially when implemented in a pseudo random order, this adaptation makes code breaking relatively difficult. An example of this method might use translation table A on all of the even bytes, and translation table B on all of the odd bytes. Unless a potential code breaker knows that there are exactly 2 tables, even with both source and encrypted data available the deciphering process is relatively difficult. Similar to using a translation table, data repositioning lends itself to use by a computer, but takes considerably more time to accomplish. A buffer of data is read from the input, then the order of the bytes (or other chunk size) is rearranged, and written out of order . The decryption program then reads this back in, and puts them back in order . Often such a method is best used in combination with one or more of the other encryption methods mentioned here, making it even more difficult for code breakers to determine how to decipher your encrypted data. As an example, consider an anagram. The letters are all there, but the order has been changed. Some anagrams are easier than others to decipher, but a well written anagram is a brain teaser nonetheless, especially if it s intentionally misleading. My favorite methods, however, involve something that only computers can do: word/byte rotation and XOR bit masking. If you
  • 16. Comparing Heart Of Darkness And Recitatif By Joseph Conrad Race, Ethnicity, and Nationality are a vital part of any individual. The overall population on our planet is growing and becoming more diverse. The importance of these things in American Society is very complicated. Race represents the evolution of culture from many years ago, Ethnicity symbolizes who we are and how we are influenced, and Nationality tells us where we come from. Although there are many theories; race, ethnicity, and nationality are socially formed and is real in society. The affects they have on peer groups, media, and children have a big impact on the way people live on a day to day basis. Postcolonial literature addresses the problems of decolonization of many non western countries becoming independent from western control. Postcolonial literature focuses on racial relationships and the effects of race itself. An example of Postcolonial literature is Joseph Conrad s text, Heart of Darkness . This text described a sailor s journey up the Congo River. The novel also allowed readers to understand his feelings towards the empire and the ruthless treatment of the African natives. He is the only American dramatist to ever win the Nobel Prize for literature. Before Breakfast is set in the Greenwich Village section of New York City, in a small one room flat on Christopher Street. The flat consists of a kitchen and dinning area. There are only two characters in this drama. Mrs. Roland who is the only speaking character and her husband Alfred. Alfred s hand is seen once in the play, but not much else. Mrs. Rowland, the protagonist, is portrayed as the stereotypical nagging wife. While a flat character, she is very realistic. Her level of diction implies her lack of education, she is also bitter towards her husband. Her bitterness is not unfounded. Alfred is of no help, Heaven knows I do my part and more going out sewing every day while you play the gentleman and loaf around bar rooms with that good for nothing lot of artists from the Square (Jacobs 1211). Columbine High School Massacre Observation Report Unit 1: Columbine High School Massacre Part One In the first part of the workshop, we explored the dramatic potential of still images, based on the stimulus of photographs given from the columbine massacre, and enhanced the impact of these images through the use of thought tracking. The photos we chose portrayed the destruction and pain of the aftermath caused by the columbine high school massacre vividly. As a group of three, we depicted the parents of a victim of the massacre at their child s grave. I played the role of the father in this freeze frame. As a group, we felt that contrasting facial expressions would best portray the image dramatically. Whilst the victim displayed an extremely neutral facial expression, connoting his lifeless nature and removal from the continued existence of the community, my facial expression was purposefully tense in order to demonstrate the pain and loss my character was experiencing. Furthermore, both my face and the character of the mother s were faced downwards and away from the surroundings, deliberately concealed, highlighting the concentration of the two characters in blocking out external stimuli in order to focus on pure emotion. Canada invoked conscription during this time as part of their war efforts. This even created problems between English and French Canada. As the romantic idea of war was destroyed when people realized the amount of casualties at war, many men did not volunteer to go to war themselves. • 22. Milton’s Paradise Lost Essay examples Milton s Paradise Lost has been praised as being the greatest English epic of all time, most stunningly in its author s depiction of the parents of humanity, Adam and Eve. How Milton chose to portray the original mother and father has been a focus of much criticism with contemporary readers. One of the main subjectsof these comments is in reference to Eve, who, according to many, is a trivial character that is most definitely inferior to her mate. Nonetheless, many do not recognize that, after the fateful Fall, she becomes a much more evolved character. When Eve is introduced to the storyline of the epic, her character is shallow and extremely undeveloped, meant simply for display. She is quite firmly set as being inferior to her mate... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He does this because the scene happens in the past and therefore he uses her to discuss it rather than confusing the reader with a flashback type scene. He also has Eve relate what happened to prove that Eve must indeed be beautiful if she herself was taken by her looks as she discusses how she pined with vain desire (IV, 466) for the image of her reflection. In fact, Eve s beauty is discussed repeatedly. For example, when Satan first sees the human couple, he is overtaken by Eve s beauty and submissive charms (IV, 498). Milton even goes so far to stress her beauty and charms as to have her stun Satan himself with it. Actually, as Satan is on his mission to seduce Eve into eating the apple, her beauty overtakes him. If chance with nymphlike step fair virgin pass, What pleasing seemed, for her now pleases more, She most, and in her looks sums all delight; Such pleasure took the Serpent to behold This flowery plant, the sweet recess of Eve Thus early, thus alone; her heavenly form Angelic, but more soft and feminine, Her graceful innocence, her every air Of gesture or least action, overawed His malice, and with rapine sweet bereaved His fierceness of the fierce intent it brought. That space the Evil One abstracted stood From his own evil, and for the time remained Stupidly good, of enmity disarmed, Of guile, of hate, of envy, of revenge. Parks and Recreation Districts GENERAL PARKS AND RECREATION DISTRICTS The use of special districts to administer parks and recreation services originates from a successful experiment by New York City in SSSS. The city created a commission to depoliticize the provision of parks and recreation services, which led to the development of Central Park. Following this model of success, a number of states now have some form of park district that span a range of services, including open space protection, land conservation, environmental education, and leisure activities. Local governments increasingly offload parks and recreation responsibilities to special districts because they require large capital investments and they benefit from district boundaries drawn according to public use. The impact of tax limitations and pressure on general funds also encourages development of park districts. Flickinger and Murphy () provide insight from a park director in Illinois who believes special taxing status is essential because park and recreation departments tend to take a back seat to streets, police, fire, utilities, and other mandatory services when time came to set or cut budgets and hire qualified personnel (1990, p. 153).Though parks and recreation are a common form of district, research evaluating its success is limited in both quantity and scope. The vast majority of research on parks and recreation districts is concentrated in the Midwest where they are most prevalent. The Illinois Park and Recreation

Points of Disagreement Points of Disagreement The Golden Rule is an ethical idea shared in various religious texts and different ancient philosophers statements around the world, and it was paraphrased as What you do not wish done to yourself, do not do to others . Kwame Anthony Appiah argues in the fifth Chapter (Moral Disagreement) of his book Cosmopolitanism that the Golden Rule is not as helpful as it might at first seem , and he gives several examples to support his argument. However, I don t think these examples are solid enough to overthrow the Golden Rule. Because we can only discuss the pros and cons of the Golden Rule after we share this idea. Besides, I have a different view toward the Golden Rule than Appiah. I prefer to believe it is a passive, constricted admonition that keep society in basic order. The spirit transited by the Golden Rule is especially needed in the society which is not based on a full fledged legal system, and the Golden Rule is also served as a necessary ethic principle to guarantee the cross cultural conversation. Appiah argues that the Golden Rule is hard to be applied in practice because it is hard to understand and share others values, and the Golden Rule is powerless facing the differences in values. The example he uses is that a doctor wanted to save his patient s life through blood transfusion. The problem is that his patient was a racist and the blood came from an African American. The doctor should not do nothing, however the patient may refuse

  • 30. A Thin Layer Of Fiction Are Looking Backward By Edward... Throughout the years, literature has often been used as a means to spread social critique. When it unfavorable or even dangerous to publicly speak out against the society of the time, the written word can act as a shield. Adding a mask of fiction to these novels allows the author to get their message out to the public who otherwise would not take the time for such issues. Two novels that exemplify this social critique behind a thin layer of fiction are Looking Backward by Edward Bellamy and Herland by Charlotte Perkins Gilman. Both of these novels offer a critique to certain aspects of American society during the time period, and do so in very similar ways. Each of these novels, Looking Backward and Herland, depict utopian societies in order to fully illustrate the issues that the authors see in their current society. Although the issues being addressed may be different, the way Bellamy and Gilman discuss them contain numerous parallels. Ranging from the cause of these utopian societies, to the mindset of the individuals living in them, both novels are very similar in their approach to social critique of America. Even the differences between the two are caused by common reasons. These parallels show the underlying format used by both Bellamy and Gilman that allowed them to identify the flaws in American society and offer solutions to them. One such parallel found within the novels is the cause of the utopian societies. Both Looking Backward and Herland depict communities

  • 32. Gary Ridgway Theory For instance, the case of the Green River Killer (Hickey, 2010:24) may offer another possible explanation for what caused Jack the Ripper to become a serial killer. Gary Ridgway is America s most notorious serial killer (Hickey, 2010), he holds the record for the most serial murder convictions in the history of the United States (Hickey, 2010:24). Ridgway is responsible for the deaths of 48 women (Hickey, 2010). Like Jack the Ripper, Ridgway selected prostitutes as his intended victims (Paley, 1995). The social learning theory may offer an explanation for why Ridgway, and the Ripper, may have become serial killers. The social learning theory suggests that behaviours are learnt by observing the behaviour of others (Jones, 1998:355), therefore if a person witnesses aggressive attitudes, this may increase the chances of that person acting in the same negative manner (Choon Chan, 2012:52).... Ridgway himself grew up in a dysfunctional home environment, where he witnessed and was subjected to both physical and emotional abuse from his mother (Hickey, 2010:24). According to the social learning theory, as Ridgway had observed faulty behaviour (Weatherby, 2009:5) exhibited by his mother, he himself would be more likely to demonstrate the same sort of violent behaviour. Additionally, the social learning theory may also give us an insight into why Ridgway targeted prostitutes, perhaps prostitutes were his objects of hate because they symbolized his

  • 34. The Spread Of Internet Usage The spread of Internet usage has impacted the retail sector. As can be seen, many retailers began to use online channels, as they take advantage of one of the most successful platforms of trade (Limayem et al., 2000; Levy and Weitz, 2001; Shim et al., 2001). The growth of new online shopping channels catches the attention of consumers who have become excited to try this new platform. Although Internet shopping channels seem to be growing, the growth of grocery shopping via online has been slower than other forms of retail (Yan and Opperwal, 2006). As a result of this, much research into online grocery shopping has attempted to understand the underlying behaviour of grocery shopping via the Internet. The studies investigated several aspects such as customer adoption of online grocery shopping (Verhoef and Langerak, 2001; Hansen, 2005), consumer response to online grocery shopping (Morganosky and Cude, 2000), customers attitudes toward online grocery shopping (Ramus and Nielsen, 2005; Huang and Oppewal, 2006), and the Technology Adoption Model (TAM) (Kurnia and Chien, 2003; Ahn, 2005). TAM is very popular in explaining the adoption process of technology. There are various studies that applied TAM such as those studying health care systems (Holden and Karsh, 2010) and e commerce acceptance (Pavlou, 2003). Being an example of technological advancement, online grocery shopping can thus be studied through this lens. According to earlier research into factors that impact

What Is A Horse Riding Essay Regardless of the way that people may not think about it as an exercise when they consider riding a horse, horseback riding can be a bona fide butt kicking exercise. It may seem the stallion is getting all the action, yet it requires modification, strong legs, and an unfaltering focus to stay in the seat. This old school recreation action is a wonderful way to deal with put some quality vitality in nature and move beyond a major exercise focus plan. There are two or three bits of gear and equipment required to begin horseback riding. If you will be taking a class, or riding at a homestead, these things may be given to you. Dissimilar to neck reining, where the stallion hands over reaction to weight from the outside rein lying against its neck, an immediate rein helps to drive a steed into the coveted bearing. Lessened to its most essential application, an immediate rein is very simple, which is likely why it s occasionally expelled as furrow reining. Yet when joined with leg weight, an immediate rein helps to manage a stallion in an unmistakable, succinct and profitable way. Let us utilize the case of turning a stallion to one side. Hold a get control over each hand, and have enough contact so you can feel the heaviness of your stallion s mouth towards the finish of each rein. Presently bring your left hand back towards your hip. Try not to raise your left hand nor drop it down towards your thigh. Both developments degenerate the straight line from the bit to your elbow. • 39. Carl Jung s Theory Of Psychology Sigmund Freud along with Carl Jung are among the main pioneers of psychology, they can be viewed as the early founders and most influential thinkers, as they contributed significantly to the modern science of psychology. They earnestly searched to understand the human psychological frailties in their entire lives trying to address and understand the human s internal changes and struggles. This paper will compare and contrast Feud s theories to those of Jung. Though their theories differ, they have had a great impact on our discernment of the human mind and their influences have led to the successful development of the wide range of human distress (Bluhm, 2006). Freud s point of view of the entire human psyche was from a sexual perspective; his theory assumed that the human mind had three basic components: the id (instincts), the ego (reality) and the superego (morality). The components were often conflicting and they usually shaped the personality. His theory is also denoted to as psychoanalytic theory of development since Sigmund Freud is the father of psychoanalytic psychology. On the other hand, Jung developed his theory based on the belief that human psyche has undeniable religious nature. He theorized that people should be taught to consolidate the conscious mind and the unconscious with a process he termed individuation, for them to become whole. Jung had a wide knowledge of religion, mythology, and philosophy, and in particular the symbolism connected to the
  • 40. Coronary Collateral Circulation And Humans Are Often More... Studies looking at coronary collateral circulation in humans are typically more controversial. Skeptics have stated that collateral development is probably due to the progression of coronary artery disease rather than an effect of exercise training. In addition, direct measurement of collateral growth, typically through coronary angiographic techniques, is difficult and may have severe limitations due to low levels of resolution of vessels (Heaps et al., 2011). Small vessels involved in the coronary collateral system ( 100Ојm) are incredibly difficult to view angiographically, so the full magnitude of collateralization may not be assessed or may be drastically underestimated (Heaps et al., 2011; Belardinelli et al., 1998). An additional approach that studies have used to measure collateral circulation development is to measure the rate pressure product in patients with coronary artery disease (CAD). Increases in rate pressure product at the beginning of myocardial ischemia have been found and is potentially related to increased myocardial oxygen supply from collateral growth stimulation (Senti et al., 1998). After exercise training, coronary patients have also seen a 29% increase in coronary flow reserve in response to adenosine (Hambrecht et al., 1993). Patients with chronic CAD and impaired LV systolic function who exercised at 60% of peak oxygen uptake 3 times a week for 8 weeks saw a significant increase in mean collateral circulation score and improvements in wall

  • 42. The Varying Practices of Allopathic Medicine and... There are to branches of medicine currently practiced in the United States Osteopathic Medicine and Allopathic Medicine. Throughout this paper I am going to discuss the history, practices and beliefs of Osteopathic Medicine as well as describe the differences between Allopathic Medicine and Osteopathic Medicine. Osteopathic Medicine has a deep rooted belief in its core values and puts a very strong emphasis on non invasive, hands on holistic medical practices. Osteopathic medicine puts all its focus on its belief that the manipulation of bones, joints and muscles can be used to diagnose and treat a variety of ailments. Osteopathic medical principles believe that the body is capable of healing, maintaining and regulating itself without the use of pharmaceutical drugs or invasive procedures that are seen as doing more harm than good. During the early 19th century there was the beginning of a new movement to revolutionize medicine. In 1892 a physician by the name of Andrew Still, MD as a protest against the conventional medical system founded the American School of Osteopathy in Kirksville, MO. Still believed strongly that the current medical system of the time was full of corruption, not efficient and was in the habit of treating the disease and illness and did not worry about the underlying issues that caused the affliction to begin with. Still founded Osteopathy during a time in which he believed that conventional medicine was doing more harm than it was good.
  • 43. Essay On Transcendentalism In The Scarlet Letter Nathaniel Hawthorne was an anti transcendentalist who lived during the 19th century. Obsessed with his great uncle, judge Hathorne, he studied the Puritan way of life. Hawthorne wrote an array of short stories and books about Puritan societies. His anti transcendentalist ideas and beliefs are seen all throughout his pieces of work. In in one of his books, The Scarlet Letter, he depicts the lives of Hester Prynne, her daughter Pearl, and the people in the town with her. Hester is the town seamstress and she commits adultery with Mr. Dimmesdale, the reverend. Hester has a child whom she names Pearl. As punishment for her crime she has to wear a scarlet letter A on her chest. In the Scarlet Letter Hawthorne uses Reverend Dimmesdale, a... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This adds to the theme of guilt by having Dimmesdale being guilty all the time for his sins and his actions in the book being motivated by this feeling. Second, Hawthorne uses a leech as a symbol for guilt. Roger Chillingworth is the town s doctor is also Hester s Husband. When Chillingworth first came to the new world he went ahead of head of Hester, being captured by Indians, everyone thought he was dead. When he found out about Hester committing adultery, infuriated he vowed to seek revenge on whoever Hester committed adultery with. Hathorne explains that Dimmesdale, like many other personages of especial sanctity...was haunted either by Satan himself, or Satan s emissary, in the guise of Roger Chillingworth. (Hawthorne 124), Hawthorne is saying that Dimmesdale is haunted by the devil and that Chillingworth is the devil. This shows that a leech is a symbol of guilt because in the 17th century doctors were called leeches. Chillingworth is literally being called a leech and is sucking the life out of Dimmesdale by haunting him. To further support that Chillingworth is being called a leech by Hawthorne, chapter 9 of the scarlet letter is called The Leech and the chapter is all about Dimmesdale and Chillingworth. Hawthorne tells us trusting no man as his friend, he could not recognize his enemy when the latter actually appeared. Hawthorne is saying that Dimmesdale is so blinded by guilt that he cannot
  • 44. Living On Campus Vs. Living Off Campus College students have multiple options when it comes to deciding where they would like to live while they are attending school. Students have the choice to live on campus in a dorm or live off campus. Deciding where to live when attending college can sometimes be a difficult process because there are a lot of things to consider whether if it s the environment, the people, or even the cost. Both living on campus and living off of the campus has its pros and cons, but it is entirely up to the student, each student has a different situation and the decision made should be thoroughly thought out. Personally, I feel that living on campus may be the best option for most collegestudents since it is more beneficial for students and their needs. Becoming a young adult can be difficult, it is a stage where being independent is very important. Some students who are living off campus will state that it is a great feeling to have a place of their own, they feel as if they are more independent because they can create their own rules and live as they please. When living off of campus students are given more privacy, because in a dorm students have to share a room with at least one other person. Students are able to personalize their own living space with the decor of their own choosing. Not only does the student gain independence, but they will also become more responsible. Living off campus is thought as paying a monthly rent and other utilities, so the student will have to work a

Indian Consumers Spending Patterns On Frozen Desserts Indian Consumers Spending Patterns on Frozen Desserts VishakhaRaut AniketAmbardekar Abstract The research paper talks about how product attributes and demographic variables affect the decisions of consumers to re purchase frozen desserts. They can be based on flavoured water i.e. shave ice, sorbets, snow cones, etc., on fruit purees like sorbet, on milk and cream i.e. ice creams, on custards, on mousse and many others. The term Frozen Dessert is often used for products that are identical to the taste and texture of ice cream but do not meet the legalized definition of the term. Frozen Desserts are often made with vegetable oil i.e.mellorine as opposed to milk or cream. In the recent past there has been a substantial evolution in the category of ice cream and frozen desserts. A decade ago this category was limited to traditional flavours of ice creams such as vanilla, chocolate, kesarpista, mango, elaichi, butterscotch, kulfi, etc. In the recent years, this category has grown and
  • 46. The Controversial Idea Of Drug Testing Welfare Recipients Taxpayers should provide support to those in need; recipients, in return, should engage in responsible and constructive behavior as a condition of receiving aid. (Robert Rector 2) As I worked on the controversial idea of drug testing welfare recipients, the most important thing I leaned is that Kline and colleagues surveyed substance use among a representative sample of welfare recipients in New Jersey. They found that 12 percent admitted that they used cocaine, but 25 percent tested positive for cocaine use based on hair sample analyses. Now that I know that, I can better understand the larger issue that the drug epidemic is monumental in the United States, and unfortunately we can not simply take peoples word on if they are using or ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Although testing for welfare often receives backlash there is information that it would decrease drug abuse, that people deserve to know where their money is going, and it would ultimately save money. Drug abuse is a huge epidemic in America, and we need to come for all angles to try and stop it. One of which can be from the welfare side. Drug testing is thought to decrease drug abuse with people on welfare. If people know that they have to pass a drug test to be able to get money for their necessities, it may encourage them to never use in the first place. It also might help them realize they have a problem and help give them a reason to get clean. This is important because an addict needs something to drive them to want to get clean, and knowing they will not receive government assistance if using can be a huge reason to be clean. Also drug testing will make the state aware and available to help the welfare recipients. The Mayor of New York Rudolph W. Giuliani says, Welfare recipients who test positive for drugs would be required to enroll in a drug treatment program or join a waiting list for treatment to keep getting benefits. In Rhode Island a law bans recipients who fail a drug test from getting welfare for a year, unless they complete a substance abuse treatment successfully. Once they do complete treatment they can reapply after six months. Both of these states are giving people that fail a second chance, and maybe their only chance.

The first major issue that occurs during the advertisement itself is Scarlett s statement to the effect of how do I make this go viral? I believe that the use of this statement alone was enough to end the ads chances of going viral, as nobody feels comfortable sharing a video that doesn t feel genuine in its attempt at reaching consumers. It similar to one of this generations major problems with advertisements that fail to feel like anything more than a hollow attempt to sell a product. The other examples given don t explicitly ask to go viral (with the exception of the second most poorly received video, Jennifer Anniston s Smartwater), and they all received millions of extra views and feel more authentic as a result. The message or goal should never feel forced in any advertisement, and Sodastream certainly failed in that regard. A second issue with this ad is the belief that it had any of the characteristics to support a viral campaign. The message fails to provide any social value as the consumer doesn t learn anything new or exciting about the product or the brand, and the ad fails at giving any chance or reason for engagement.
