Controversy Between William Shakespeare s Plays And Plays
William Shakespeare has been marred by controversy of whether or not he actually wrote his
plays and poems. William was born on April 23, 1564, in Stratford Upon Avon, United Kingdom.
Although he is a famous author and playwright, his early history is actually a cloudy mystery.
William Shakespeare didn t write his plays and poems because his entire familyhad a lack of
education, there isn t any other documents, such as letters or journals, and he never left Avon or
London and all of his plays were staged in Italy.
The majority of the residents in Avon couldn t read or write. All of William s family, and most
likely him, weren t an exception. He had minimal education, going to grammar school, only because
it was free. The grammar school ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Other top tier writers would have journals or letters. Especially if he was in London, he more
than likely would ve written to write letters back to his wife and children. He didn t have any
other written documents or signatures besides birth records. If he wrote the plays, then he
would ve had more signatures and documents that he wrote. Many may suggest that Shakespeare
actually did write his poems and plays. But, all of the plays were staged in Italy. He never left
Avon besides to go to London. The setting of Italy was very accurate. He would ve had to go
there, which he didn t. And you couldn t go to Google and look up pictures of Italy, or just text
someone and have them send you pictures and videos. It is a major controversy about if William
actually wrote his plays or not. Some believe Francis Bacon could ve done it. Most historians
believe Avon was too poor to produce a writer of such a high caliber. It is also a possibility that
Sir Walter Raleigh wrote them and said that Shakespeare wrote them. William didn t or couldn t
write his plays because, his entire family had a lack of education, there isn t any other documents,
such as letters or journals, and he never left Avon or London and all of his plays were staged in

The Importance Of Prosocial Behavior
Humans are inherently social being meaning they naturally tend to live in groups and that can
consist of both kin and nonkin. While humans do form communities there are conflicts that have
and will continue to occur because humans possess and exhibit traits both for and against prosocial
behavior. These antisocial traits continue to thrive in humans because it is working in conjunction
with other traits that are desired in humans or the trait themselves yields unexpected, but welcome
behavior. Morality, human s conscience that dictates right from wrong, balances these traits and
encourages this prosocial behavior, by enabling important inclinations such as cooperation and
altruismthat improve human interactions. Generally speaking, actions that benefit the community
will in turn benefit the survival of that individual in the social environments constructed by humans.
While there are methods to both suppress unwanted tendencies and encourage wanted tendencies,
Boehm focuses a significant amount on these suppression techniques. The suppression of such bad
behavior allows coherency in the group.
This will cover a few key mechanisms of this suppression including the guidelines created by
societies, the regulation of them to uphold such ideals and some of the genetic forces that drive
evolution.
An important way to maintain a functioning society is to suppress the individuals who are unable
to abide by the social norm and therefore threaten to disrupt the balance and order of

Consuming Energy Drinks
Another issue with consuming energy drinks is that their ingredient make up is not typically
provided to the consumer in the form of a nutrition label (Marczinski et al. 2014). The issue with
this is that the consumer really has no idea what he or she is consuming. This can be potentially
dangerous in its self because this common energy blend that is present in most energy drinks can
hold many types of psychoactive compounds such as caffeineand guarana which primarily affect
the brain and mind (Marczinski et al. 2014). However, there are many common ingredients that
energy drinks contain as well as naturally include hidden sources of caffeine (Higgins et al. 2010).
Take Guarana for instance, this is a common ingredient in most, if not all... Show more content on

Of these eleven listed energy drinks and energy shots, four provide the actual caffeine content on
the nutrition label of the can (Red Bull, No Fear, Rip It, and SK Energy), but many provide the
consumer with the broad term energy blend, which gives the consumer little to no useful
information except for a broad amount of the combined ingredients within that energy blend.
Table 2 (below) provides a detailed overview of the ingredient make up. There are many brands
of energy drinks available in the world today that hold a vast array of caffeine within. These
energy drinks come in a variety of many sizes as well. Energy drinks are hypothesized to hold a
higher content of caffeine than any other caffeinated drink tested and will be the unhealthiest
option for an energy source. The results of the experiment will be ranked in order based on the
caffeine content for each drink. Through this experiment, the outcomes of consuming energy
drinks such as their health effects and risks associated with consumption will be evaluated. The
worst type of energy drink in the world is predicted to be the more recent energy shot. Energy
shots are believed to hold more health effects and risks because it is such a small dosage that is
being consumed in such a short time frame. Energy shots are also believed to hold a much
higher caffeine level than any other caffeinated drink. A 2 ounce energy shot can easily exceed
the FDA approved level of caffeine intake per day and can also hold up to the same amount of
caffeine as a 16 ounce energy drink if not

Simple Interest and Flat Rate Loans:
A flat rate loan is one where flat or simple interest is charged on an amount borrowed or principal
for the term of the loan. Interest is always charged on the full amount of the loan.
I = Prn
P = principal r = rate per period expressed as a decimal n = number of periods
E.g. Phil borrowed $4000 for three years at 8%p.a. (per annum) (flat rate)

Female roles in fifth business Essay

Robertson Davies: Fifth Business
Dorothy L. Sayers states Wherever you find a great man, you will find a great mother or a great
wife standing behind him. Man is a societal construct that is structured and molded by maternal
influences and female insight. Typically one is a product of its environment, however Robertson
Davies in Fifth Business, deliberately uses female roles to display the impact that women have on
the psychological growth of a man. Davies chronologically traces the psyche of Dunstan Ramsay as
he matures with the guidance of significant female characters in his life. In Fifth Business,
Robertson Davies uses the characterization of Mrs. Ramsay, Diana ... Show more content on

Secondly, Diana Marfleet plays a significant role in the novel as Dunny s first meaningful and
realistic love, and a second maternal female in Dunny s life. Diana nursed Dunny back to life,
after he was nearly left to die in the war. Diana is characterized as Dunny s second mother, as she
brings him back to life, re teaches him the essentials of life, and renames him, Dunstan. Diana
catalyzes Dunstan s maturing process, as she initiated him into the world of manhood, sexually, and
mentally as he began to form his own decisions. Moreover, to complete his transformation she
decides that he should change his name to Dunstan, which mentally gives him the psychological
ambition to complete and realize his transformation into a new person in stating I liked the idea of
a new name; it suggested new freedom and new personality (Davies 90). Distinctly, being with
Diana has made him think about himself for once in life and made him realize that he loves her
unconditionally, however, Dunstan states she was too much of a mother to me. (Davies 81). This
motherly attraction to Diana drives Dunstan away from her, as he knows that their relationship
could not have lasted.
Finally, throughout the novel, Mary Dempster has an impactful role in the growth of Dunstan
Ramsay. Mary teaches Dunny to disregard the moral rules of society, and to behave in a manner
that is unselfish and for the betterment of others. Dunny admires Mary

Critical Analysis Of Shostakovich Cello Concerto No. 2
Shostakovich Cello Concerto No. 2
Dmitri Shostakovich is known as one of the most major composers within the 20th century. This
composer, born in 1906 in Saint Petersburg, Russia discovered his musical talent at age 9 after
beginning piano lessons with his mother. Throughout the years, he learned full piano and
composition which lead to his graduation from the Saint Petersburg Conservatory at age 19 with his
first symphony. Shostakovich often times found difficulty in balancing his artistic inspiration and
the demands of the soviet state. Shostakovich is recognized for his themes of solemn ambivalence
as well as for his ability to incorporate deep emotional range within his work. For this review, I
chose to watch Shostakovich Cello Concerto No. 2. This concert was performed by the State
Academic Symphony Orchestra of the USSR. The conductor of this concert was Yevgeny Svetlanov
and the violoncellist performing was Mstislav Rostropovich. Shostakovich Cello Concerto No. 2
was performed in the Large Hall of Moscow State Conservatory on September 25th, 1966.
This concerto is about 35 minutes long and has three movements throughout the work. In my
opinion, Shostakovich Cello Concerto No. 2 is full of unpredictability and emotional melancholy.
It seems as if the first movement conveys such a dark tone which within itself exemplifies the
piece in a dreary and mysterious light. It feels as if some extremely somber themes are being
explored within the beginning of the movement. The

RenГ© Lalique became synonymous with French Art Nouveau decorative arts. RenГ© Lalique
was born in 1860 and first began designing fine jewelry in Paris in 1881. Lalique pursued
increasingly more innovative experimentation in glass commencing around 1883. Early works
used the familiar lost wax technique by which the model is made in wax while a mold is formed
around the model. Then, the wax is melted and molten glass is poured into the mold. Lalique glass
was made in this manner until approximately 1905 at which time the factory was redesigned for a
larger production. As such, the individual uniqueness of each example of Lalique glass came to an

Some of these creations are now on display at the Orrefors Glass Museum. The news that artists
were engaged in a glasshouse for the first time attracted gifted glassblowers to Orrefors. The union
of glassblowers and artists led to joint development of techniques such as Graal and Ariel , and to
further development of the traditional Bohemian cooper wheel engraving. On the whole, Orrefors
offered broad scope for experiment and innovation with new techniques being developed and older
ones refined and this is still the case today.
Success led to the arrival of new designers. The graphic artist Vicke Lindstrand came to Orrefors
in 1928, and designed glass that was painted or engraved. Nils Landberg and Sven Palmqvist
came at the end of the 1920 s as engravers, apprentices, and after service as assistants to Simon
Gate and Edward Hald became full fledged glass artists during the 1930 s. The sculptor Edvin
Ohrstrom joined Orrefors in 1936.

Essay about Moral Hazard
The theme of moral hazard comes up numerous times throughout the movie, Too Big To Fail and is
an extremely important factor when considering what happened in September of 2007 and its
consequences. By definition, moral hazard is, the risk that a party to a transaction has not entered
into the contract in good faith, has provided misleading information about its assets, liabilities or
credit capacity, or has an incentive to take unusual risks in a desperate attempt to earn a profit
before the contract settles (Investopedia). Basically it s when others such as these investment banks
are careless with the money invested by the people because it isn t their money or their risk. This
was the case throughout many points in the film. First,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Ultimately, U.S Treasury Secretary Henry Paulsondirected CEO of Lehman Brothers, Dick Fuld to
declare bankruptcy before the market opened. They decided against bailing them out and preached
to the public about moral hazard. In this situation, if they were to bail Lehman Brothers out, it
would promote the theory that, it wouldn t matter if banks are careless with others money if they
are going to get bailed out anyway, and also what is stopping these banks from not repeating the
same mistake if the Fed bails them out in the end. This came over well initially in the public for
those exact reasons but soon turned. Because of Lehman Brothers counterparty risk, it affected the
entire financial market and another giant, AIG, began to collapse. With AIG failing it would cause
the entire financial system to fall and cause massive problems. Due to these reasons Paulson
lobbied for the government to intervene and eventually they did and passed the Emergency
Economic Stabilization Act of 2008, which allowed Paulson to spend up to 700 billion to
purchase securities and inject cash directly into banks. They ended up doing exactly what they
weren t willing to with Lehman Brothers and their preaching against moral hazard went right out
the window when they decided to bail out AIG. Moral Hazard is a double edged sword because in
the end, what is to stop these banks from doing the same thing again? Also, if

A Sphere Poem
In his 2006 collection, District and Circle , Seamus Heaney responds to the ever changing and
developing world around him. To do so he often relies upon the exploration of the past, memory,
and personal identity through the use of language. In the second poem of District and Circle , A
Shiver , Seamus Heaney is dependent upon these concepts to construct a thematically rich poem.
Heaney s A Shiver utilises language to explore the themes of the past, memory, and personal
identity. The Petrarchan sonnetdescribes the action of wielding a tool: the energy that is associated
with it, as well as an understanding of the destructive power that it wields: the way you had to stand
to swing the sledge . By using a Petrarchan sonnet Heaney introduces the concept of the past within
his poetry, due to the historical context of the Renaissance style of writing. The description of the
tool, in past tense and therefore illuminating Heaney s fascination of the past, ultimately leads to a
metaphor in regards to what occurs when strength, and therefore power, falls into the wrong hands.
The tool that is used within A Shiver to demonstrate this power is a sledgehammer most commonly
used by labourers as a way to demolish material items and it is implied that Heaney himself has
operated the sledgehammer and is, almost, frightened by its power. This can then be contributed to
the overall metaphor of misused power. This metaphor also demonstrates Heaney s personal
narrative voice within

Desmin As A Type IIi Intermediate Filament Protein
Desmin: Its Role in Desminopathy
Introduction
Desmin is a type III intermediate filament protein that is muscle specific and is found in all muscle
types: smooth, cardiac, and skeletal. Autosomal dominant and autosomal recessive desmin gene
mutations affect desmin (DES) and oftentimes О±ОІ crystallin (CRYAB), a chaperone for DES,
which leads to a type myofibrillar myopathy, known as desminopathy (Goldfarb et al., 2010).
Desmin is the most abundant IF protein in striated and smooth muscle cells and is one of the
earliest markers of muscle development (Clemen et al., 2012). Desmin filaments are mainly
located at the periphery of Z disk of striated muscles and at the dense bodies of smooth muscle
cells, and they have been thought to play a major role in the maintenance of structural and
mechanical integrity of the contractile apparatus in muscle tissues (Paulin Li, 2004). A
dysfunctional desmin protein cannot properly interact with Z discs, leading to abnormalities of
sarcomere structure and problems with the formation of myofibrils (NIH, 2016). The resulting
pathology, desminopathy, is one of the most common intermediate filament human disorders
associated with mutations in closely interacting proteins (Goldfarb Dalakas, 2009). This condition
is defined as skeletal and cardiac myopathy characterized by the presence of chimeric aggregates
in muscle fiber areas that consist of DES, CRYAB and other proteins (Goldfarb et al., 2010). While
a few desmin related

Discretion In Policing
State and territory police play a pivotal role in protecting community safety and protection. Policing
was a combination of national economic interests, domestic and international security, and
represented in time by distinctive organizations (Chapman, 1970; Emsley, 1994). They have
responsibility for peace preservation, and crimeprevention as well as upholding the laws, providing
assistance in personal emergencies, and coordinating and managing emergency incidents. Since the
policecan employ the discretionary powers, which is a flexible way to dispose of social problems,
in a manner that either directs offenders to or diverts them away from, further penetration into the
justice system, they are seen as the gatekeepers of the criminal justicesystem, model authority, and
law abiding enforcement (Rob and Santina, 2015, p.348; Wortley, 2003). They seek to sustain
politically defined order and ordering via tracking, surveillance, and arrest. As such, they require
compliance to command from lower participants and citizens. (Peter and Jeffrey, 2015, p.246).
Discretion is universal and legitimate power applied by criminal justice professionals in modern
policing, which requires employing individual judgment for adjudicating whether they use a legal
sanction in a particular situation (McLaughlin, 2013).

Breast Health Care at Magee Women International
Intro
As an intern with Magee Womancare International (MWI), the international humanitarian outreach
arm of Magee Womens Hospital, my primary goal was to provide breast health education to
underserved African Americans and Latino women throughout the Pittsburgh area, to navigate and
support these women through the breast health continuum of care, and to facilitate clinical and
mammography screenings through the Breast Health Equity and Circulos de Amigas programs. As
a male intern, my role in this program was to engage local and predominantly male led grassroots
organizations and religious groups in breast health education to promote healthy families and
ultimately healthy and safe communities. I was also required to assist my fellow undergraduate
intern Maddie with her work in the programing and execution of the South Asia Youth Summit (aka
SAYS) program. In addition I was expected to assist my Suporvisiors with grant writing and
miscellaneous task regarding running our several ongoing current grant initiatives. By the end of

Herman Hesse s Well-Known Bildungsroman
In Herman Hesse s well known Bildungsroman, Demian, the novel contains connections to both
the Bible and Nietzsche , The Gay Science. These influences are seen in the chapter, Two Worlds
and its similarity to Genesis; the mark of Cain and its connection to Thus Spoke Zarathustra,
and the preparation for World War 2 to Nietzsche s concept of preparatory human beings. Hesse s
influence from the Bible is seen in chapter one, Two Worlds through the similarity between
Sinclair s childhood life and the story of the Fall in Genesis. Sinclair believes the world is divided
into two, the world of light and the world of darkness. The world of light being love and strict
rules, education and example (Hesse 3) Whereas, the world of dark is comprised... Show more

Demian has major similarities to Nietzsche s, Thus Spoke Zarathustra which is seen through
Hesse s mention of the mark of Cain. In chapter two, Cain , Sinclair and Demian are taught the
story of Cain and Abel in school. As expected, the boys learn the story as it is told in the bible,
Cain receives a mark on his forehead to indicate he is evil. However, Demian explains to Sinclair
that he interpreted (the story) in a completely different way. (Hesse 22) Demian believes that the
mark on Cain s forehead is not an indication of evil rather, it is a mark of power that threatened
and scared everyone. When Sinclair and Demian part different ways after their conversation,
Sinclair questions, he not himself a kind of Cain? (...) Why does he have such a power in his
eyes, and why does he speak so scornfully about the others , the fearful ones, who, after all are
actually pious and pleasing to G d? (Hesse 25) Hesse s inclusion of this quote is to reveal that
Sinclair sees Demian as Cain, due to his sense of power and opposition from the others. Later,
the reader learns that Sinclair also has the mark of Cain. Hesse demonstrates this when Sinclair
and Demian are reunited as teenagers and Demian says, you ve changed. But you have the sign
(...) we used to call it the mark of Cain. (Hesse 109) Demian defines those with the mark as,
considered strange, even crazy and dangerous, by the rest of the world. We were awakened, or at
least awakening; our efforts were directed toward ever more complete awareness, while others
always longed to merge their opinions, ideals, and duties, their lives and their happiness, more and
more closely with those of the herd. (Hesse 117) this quote indicates that having the mark of Cain
implies that one separates oneself from mass thinking, the herd. A further meaning for the mark of
Cain is shown when Demian says, felt that we embodied

would look like if they did. Would they be petty nuisances, or a dark force slowly eating away at
society? There are very few people that could fit this title, but in Electric Funeral, a chapter in I
Wear the Black Hat: Grappling with Villains (Real and Imagined), Chuck Klosterman, a best
selling author, details what some of these villains of today are: different types of technocrats. The
three villains he mainly focuses on are Perez Hilton, Kim Dotcom, and Julian Assange, who each

Social media can do the same, but WikiLeaks has a reputation for publishing the truth. The worst
thing about this information is that no one has really stopped him or any of this staff from not
releasing new documents. WikiLeaks is a little radical, as it shares anything and everything
without mercy. A possible solution to ease up Wikileaks aggressive nature is to release tidbits of
information, and rally the people to pressure the government in releasing the rest. That sure may
make the release more self controlled rather than the media shoving it down the public s throat.
However, Assange does not seem like the guy to do this. It seems that he would rather keep many
of his sources under wraps, and leave the public guessing as to how he retrieved important
documents. Out of all of the three Klosterman villains, Assange is definitely the closest to a real

While this appears to be a good datapoint in that it is a direct correlation to butter related activities.
Training is relative to education and compensation is relative to pay and benefits. A number of
questions which arise: If 80% of the military budget is relative to butter related activities, and 20%
is being spent for direct defense related efforts, then why are these costs included in the defense
budget? Would shifting the costs for military training be better suited at the Department of Labor
(current budget of $11.8 billion)? Would shifting the costs for compensation related healthcare be
better situated at the Department of Health and Human Services (current budget s $77.1 billion)
and the Department of Veterans Affairs (current budget s $65.3 billion)?
If Hanson s belief of a strong military is sincere, then innovative thinking in a collaborative
approach to the defense of the nation is needed. In the case of calendar year 2013, moving 80%
of the defense budget to butter related activities would reduce defense spending by $386 billion
dollars. This would therefore allow for defense related activities to be focused on appropriately.

Themes Of A Small, Good Thing Essay
Themes in A Small, Good Thing Life consists of persistence and lethargy; patience and tragedy;
felicity and suffering; experiences and failures; ups and downs; and accepting the good with the
bad and the bad along with the good. These details create slices of life moments in our lives. As
we read Raymond Carver s short stories, we see these beautiful moments come to pass. One of
the short stories that presented this was A Small, Good Thing , where Carver demonstrates
occurring themes of loneliness and helplessness, limitations of communication, and human
connections to create multiple slices of life moments. Loneliness/Helplessness The theme of
loneliness and helplessness occurs often throughout A Small, Good Thing . Raymond
introduces us to the baker, who lives a lonely life. There is no trace of other coworkers that work
him and we do not have much of a background story of him. Whenever the baker is mentioned in
the story, we get the impression that he is at the bakery 24/7. The baker says What do you want
at this hour. It s midnight...I work day and night here, trying to make ends meet (Carver 225).
The baker may live a lonely life since he has no children and we do not see any signs of him
having a partner. Throughout the story, the theme of helplessness is also present. Ann and Howard,
the parents of Scotty in the story A Small, Good Thing , feel like they cannot help their son, Scotty

Fire Ants. The only kind of weather that can have a significant effect on fire ant populations is
freezing weather that drops below 10 degrees Fahrenheit for at least two weeks. Since we aren t
likely to see that in San Antonio, you can be sure that fire ants will be around to bother us all
year long. Fire ants are one of those pests that prefer mild weather; they tend to forage more in
the fall than they do in the spring. So don t neglect your yard just because the weather changes,
especially if you have dogs or children who play in the yard. Continue to apply fire ant bait when

My Camping Trip
Every year my aunt plans a camping trip for everybody so we can get together and have fun and
so that the cousins can be with each other. Family comes from New Jersey, California, and
sometimes Virginia to go camping with us; we want as much family to be with us on these trips
as possible. In 2007, I was the youngest cousin out of the 10 that went camping with us, and to
be honest it sucked because I would mostly be left out of adventures the big kids would do. My
older cousins were between the ages of 15 17 and then there was middle ages that were 10 12
and me being 7 years old. My cousins decided to go down to the river, I really wanted to go, but
they said no, because something can happen. they always said that it made me mad. My older
cousins would give my parents the look of like say something so she doesn t come with us. My
mom told me that she needed my help with cooking a reason so I wouldn t go. I told my mom I
didn t want to help. She told me to go in the tent and color. I went to the tent and as I was going
to go in the tent I saw my bike. Thought to myself that I can ride my bike and catch up with my
cousins. In my head, I thought nothing bad can happen, nor I would get in trouble with going with
my cousins without telling my parents. I got on my bike and started following them. My cousins
didn t know I was following them because I was keeping my distance from them and being quite.

Halloween Party Themes
Halloween parties are meant to fun and fantastical, but coming up with a new theme can be
difficult. Everyone has been to that old party with fake cobwebs draped over furniture and dry ice

The Effect Of Bubbles And How They Affect Investment
2. The definition of bubbles and how they affect investment This section will focus on the analysis
about how bubbles affect investors behaviors. Since bubbles are closely connected with crises,
doing research on investors behaviors about overvalued assets can help economists to understand
crises fundamental. Therefore it is good for governments to take actions to prevent these crises.
The first part of this section will describe the definition of bubbles in detail, and the second part
will illustrate relevant empirical evidences to further explain how bubbles affect investing
behaviors. 2.1 Theoretical research C. Kindleberger (1978) first defined bubbles as a continuously
increasing process of assets price. This phenomenon... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Finally he found investors behaviors in terms of the overvalued assets played an important role in
this process. Joesph E. Stiglitz (1990) agreed with the theory above, and suggested that if investors
thought assets could be sold over their expectation, they would do more investment, and then assets
actual price would increase, which also means the bubbles would appearance. He thought it is
important to prove the existence of bubbles, since they can implicate the future decrease of assets
price. Therefore governments could take actions to control investors behaviors and avoid crises. But
by taking the 1960s crisis as an example, he found bubbles existence was difficult to test. It is
because bubbles would not exist only if the assets discount rate increased equal to the assets price,
which means the assets value would be equal to the discount value. But this equilibrium is not
expectable. Then Stiglitz proposed that the markets might have multiple equilibriums, so he
collected many economists thoughts about this opinion. But he found models of different
economists were developed in terms of different methods, so they cannot reach an agreement. But
he suggested that it is still important for economists to analyze this problem in further studies.
Basing on the research of other economists, Robert S. Chirinko and Huntley Schaller finally built a
widely accepted model, Q equation, to test bubbles existence. The

Theme Of Religion In Shawshank Redemption
What role does religion play in the film? Describe the use of different religious symbols, elements
or terms. To me Shawshank Redemption, seemed to be like any other prison film. A story of a
prisoner s tough life, when surrounded by the massive walls of a brutal American prison, treated as
scum. In some genius way, they manage to trick the management and escape through a tiny tunnel
and out as free men. However, the Shawshank Redemption is no jail brake film, to me it is rather
more a parable of the side effects when imprisoning a human being until institutionalized and unable
to function when outside the protection of the prison walls. As Red quoted; These walls are funny.

The Shawshank Redemption actually retells the resurrection of Jesus Christ. After Andy s
escape, Red and others look for Andy s dead body just like the disciples went to look Jesu s. As
the prison guard said; Oh my holy god . The film infuses Dufresne s escape, with the symbolism
of new birth, since he precedes through a woman s womb (in this case Rita Hayworth) and ends
with him slipping head first out of a sewer. As Red quoted; Andy crawled through 500 yards of
sh*t smelling foulness I can t even imagine . Andy Dufresne was new born and cleaned as soon
as he slipped into the river. I believe it refers to the Christian tradition of baptizing a new born.
However, the strongest reference to Christianity I believe, is the tale of hope and faith. Andy
Dufresne came as an outsider, brining perhaps new hope to this grey environment. He might be
the only hope in the prison, since he is the only innocent one. His hope for a brighter future leads
him to accomplish a great number of achievements. Not only did he manage to get a prison
library, he managed to educate a young prisoner at high school level. Dufresne s best friend, Red
keeps telling him that hope is a dangerous thing and will drive a man crazy. But when the warden
shoots Dufresne s only witness and hope to be released, he seemed to lose hope. He became closer
to being institutionalized. This is where Andy Dufresne decided that he had been in prison enough

The Experimental Results And Test Parameters
The experimental results depend on a combination of test parameters, structural parameters and
materials parameters. For the complete stress strain curve, the test parameters are difficult to be
separated from the material and structural parameters. The softening behavior of concrete, as found
in laboratory tests, depends strongly on structural aspects such as specimen dimensions, boundary
conditions and feed back signal. And it also depends on test parameters such as testing machine
characteristics, friction restraint between loading plates, allowable rotations of loading plates
before and during the test and loading rates as well as on the concretecomposition. Uniaxial
compression tests on cubes and cylinders, with different heights, have shown that a stress strain
curve of concrete is not a material property but a mix of structural and material behavior.
4.2.5. Tensile splitting strength and modulus of rupture:
The test is carried out for three foam balls lightweight concrete cubes specimens of size 150 x150 x
150 mm for tensile splitting strength. The Universal testing machine is used for the test. This test
refers to the split cube test, indirectly measures the concrete tensile strength. It is done by applied a
compression the cube through a line load along its length. Tensile strength is considered one of the
important basic properties of the concrete. Concrete is not usually expected to desinged resisting
the direct tension. That is because of its brittle nature and

The Last Winter Film Analysis
ABSTRACT
Environmental change is a severe issue in the world as many parts of the world strive towards
ensuring that the environment remains habitable and with minimal detrimental changes (Hamilton,
2011). Furthermore, environmental evolution is taught in most educational centers to ensure that
people understand how to conserve the environment. However, many people perceive it as a dull
subject and do not give it the attention it deserves; but this situation is changed by the number of
movies, documentaries, movies and TV series that have been made to explain the dangers or
benefits of environmental change more creatively.
This study will seek to describe one such movie and discuss the different factors, assumptions,
impacts, and scientific accuracies to the same regard. It will also put into consideration the truths,
consequences, and facts that have been portrayed in the movie. The Last Winter, whose release was
in 2007, is a movie that explains environmental changes based on global warming. Its effects and
shall discuss it and try to understand the angle that the producer took in conveying the ecological
change message as well as point out whether it provides a solution for the problem so discovered.
FILM PLOT
The Last Winter is a disaster movie, which bases its storyline on global warming as an event that
brings strange events that could not be explained entirely easily. Oil exploration is one of the
significant activities happening in the area as a team of engineers

Difference Between Inorganic Growth And Organic Growth
Organic growth is where a company grows by increasing its turnover/sales revenues. (It can also
be defined as growth of a company by building on its existing knowledge or resources). With an
increased revenue the company can easily make profits, it then ploughs back the profits into the
business enabling it to grow. To increase turnover/sales revenue the company can do so through
increasing its customers (find new customers to add to existing ones) or developing new products.
For instance, Sunlight and Berendsen growth is attributed more to organic growth whereby they
have been able to increase their customers in existing locations and new EU operational areas.
Inorganic growth is growth generated through the company joining with other companies. Organic
growth can be by mergers or takeovers. A merger is where two companies through an agreement
join. They agree on how to conduct their operations, resource sharing among other aspects of their
business. A takeover is whereby a company buys/owns 51% or more of the shares of another
company (The Times 100, n.d). This gives it a right to majority voting power, it controls the
management and financial decisions of the business. Inorganic growth can take place via horizontal
integration or vertical integration. Under horizontal integration two companies or firms at the same
stage of production or operating in the same line of business join as was in the Sunlight and
Berendsen which both had specialty in providing textile services

The Christian Faith Essay
I didn t come from a particularly religious, or irreligious, household. Growing up, there was no
solid, undoubting spiritual framework from which I could base my life on. There was never
any Sunday morning rush hour, where we would all eat a quick breakfast of bacon eggs before
cramming into the car to go listen to a man, clad in white, preach sing to us about a creator.
There was never any youth group, or summer camp, or bible study. Not to any fault of my
parents, of course I just wasn t raised that way. That being said, I was still told about God, the
bible, and the things that entail it. Despite the fact that I was never really, fully indoctrinated
into the Christian faith, I was still being raised as a Christian, and that s what I identified as for
the majority of my childhood. I was Austin Tanner Herz, the 3rd grader, the lego fanatic, the
comic book reading, lunchable eating, bed jumping extraordinaire, the Christian. Little did I
know how much my religious identity would change over the upcoming years. As a Christian, I
held Christian beliefs. I believed in the afterlife that those who were good got to go to Heaven,
and those who were bad went to Hell. I believed that Jesus died for the world s sins, and that we
all had an obligation to accept him. I believed these things because it was what I had been taught
to believe despite having no formal indoctrination, it was all I really knew. All of my friends
believed it, probably for the same reasons I

The Road- Brave New World Compare and Contrast Essay
Differentiating Societies It is remarkable how differentiated works of literature can be so similar
and yet so different, just by the way the authors choose to use select certain literary devices. Two
different novels, Brave New World, by Aldous Huxley, and The Road, by Cormac McCarthy,
display these characteristics because of the ways the authors institute such mechanisms. Brave New
Worlddescribes a futuristic era where humans are genetically manufactured for a certain job
predestined to them before they are artificially created, and where common human emotions,
desires, wants, and needs have all been modified to support a deemed utopian society where
everyone lives and works together in harmony. The Road describes a post apocalyptic... Show more

In conclusion, Huxley generally uses his collected, connected syntax and structure throughout the
book to display a calmer, informative perspective on the events happening as the story progresses as
well as implementing certain stylistic elements to make certain parts of the novel stand out. The
characterization used by Huxley in Brave New World is one of significance and effectiveness
for the point he is trying to convey. Huxley uses accurate, developed characterization and goes
into great detail about the characters because this characterization ties into the plot. Since the
theme of the novel reflects on how technology can change our world for the worse, by using
accurate descriptions of the characters, their thoughts, and their actions, Huxley is able to more
accurately show the audience how changes in a new society can contrast to the standards we
have set for our society today. In addition, Huxley makes a special point to emphasize how
material goods such as clothing can define a character in this society. Huxley purposefully
establishes these simple social distinctions in characterization in order to emphasize the effect of
the theme. Found in his novel, the following passage reads, What a hideous color khaki is

of the programmed idea that wearing khaki is a sign

Paul CГ©zanne s Mount Sainte Victoire Paul CГ©zanne is often called the first modernist painter,
and in his essay, CГ©zanne and the Unity of Modern Art Clement Greenberg, identifies CГ©zanne
as the most abundant generator of ideas and the most enduring in newness (Greenberg,83). This,
coming from one of the most influential art critics of the twentieth century, is not to be taken
lightly. CГ©zanne was extremely influential to the modernist painters of the early twentieth,
including Pablo Picasso and George Braque in their development of Cubism(Orfila,3). At the

He created a new way of observing nature. A type of analysis wherein he deconstructs what he sees
and then reconstructs it on the canvas, giving it a new structure. The impact of CГ©zanne s work

there was a retrospective of CГ©zanne s life, which is said to have been how the majority of the
avant garde was won over by his work (Ofila,3). Mount Sainte Victoire , being painted in the final

good representation of his brand of modernism. All the techniques that CГ©zanne developed over
the course of his life were employed in this painting, which makes it, though not a very famous one,

Entrepreneurship Is A Field Of Business
Over the years, entrepreneurship is a field of business that has been growing rapidly. Although the
concept of entrepreneurship is highly debated on what it is exactly, in a simple way it is acting on
one s knowledge and thoughts and developing those into innovations, which in the end will
improve the world and in return hopefully allow the entrepreneurto receive a gain in either a
monetary or non monetary sense. Within entrepreneurship, there are many different fields to
this broad business platform. Since I am a collegiate basketball player and have been surrounded
by sports my entire life, I have decided to focus on entrepreneurship within the sports industry.
Again, this is growing rapidly along with entrepreneurship, however, if one would research this
specific field of entrepreneurship, they would find that it is a young practice. In this paper, I
will be focusing on the owners in the NBA specifically comparing and contrasting the newer
owners verses the older owners. Primarily most of the newer owners are younger guys who made
most of their money in uncertain business deals that led to large profits. Thus, they are
successful entrepreneurs who took their skills and prior knowledge and applied that to the NBA.
On the other hand, older NBA owners provide an old school business approach, which is usually
based off instincts and knowledge of the game. Therefore, the issue I will be discussing will
regard owning a NBA team, which I will go in depth to talk about why the

Futility, Spring Offensive And Exposure By Wilfred Owen
Eco critics ask questions such as whether or not Everything is connected to everything else , in
order to explore the realms of human thought. In relation to Wilfred Owen s poems; Futility, Spring
Offensive, and Exposure, this theory that all living things are interconnected is a multifaceted one.
Natureis used heavily as a centralised motif in each of them, albeit in different ways, in order to
represent a range of both internal and external battles Owen s soldiers are forced to undergo
during active service in the war. The soldiers are also depicted to depend on, as well as exploit
their rural surroundings in equal measure, particularly concerning military action. As a concept,
ecocriticism is a contemporary approach and it is therefore highly unlikely that Owen would have
intentionally included such heavily cited links with eco criticism, especially considering that he
claimed his subject to be, war and the pity of war . Owen himself believed that the war he was
fighting was needless, and only caused pain and suffering. His work sheds light on the harsh,
brutality of warfare whilst challenging the patriotic nature of other existing war poems at the time,
believing that they did not truly depict the war he was all too familiar with, true Poets must be
Truthful . However, applying Owen s work through an ecological perspective is not a completely
futile, as Owen s depth of understanding can provide us with insight into the effect humans,
particularly soldiers, had on their biosphere during this period in history and vice versa; this is, The
fundamental premise that human culture is connected to the physical world, affecting it and
affected by it. It is these connections with the natural world that highlight both Owen s love of the
natural world, influenced by the likes of Romanticist poet John Keats, and his sense of anguish
towards humanity and their distorted concept of war.
The obscure relationship between man and environment is addressed abundantly throughout each
of the throughout the three poems, as it is made apparent that Owen tended to use pathetic fallacy
as a motif to reflect the internal conflicts of the soldiers. When the weather is peaceful, the soldiers
are too, as seen briefly in

the power of the leaders, there by ensuring the leaders success. Firstly, both books contain

To finalize, both novels include secondary character that play the role of a spokesmen in which
they use their intellect and persuasive skill to assist their leader s power. Secondly, secondary
characters in both novels play the role of followers who help their leader in obtaining more
power. In Animal Farm, Boxer represents the hard working and loyal people. Boxer is a
inspiration to all the other animals because of his strength, loyalty, and his never failing cry of I
will work harder (Orwell 49). Plus, Boxer s faith and trust in Napoleon inspires the other animals
to do so as well. In contrast, in Lord of the Flies, the Savages are the followers of Jack. They are
all loyal to Jack but only because they want the food and protection that the hunters provide.
Since Piggy does not have this knowledge of the truth, he is not able to explain that they only
have themselves to fear, (comma splice) therefore the rest of the boys would have no other need

Voluntary And Compulsory Voting Systems
Voluntary and Compulsory Voting Systems: The Affect on Democracy
Across the globe day after day, nations have been progressively attempting to improve the political
systems in which they inhabit, the most prominent political system currently standing as
democracy. But what exactly constitutes as democracy? Democracy is a term holding a spectrum of
meanings, many frequently overlapping. In its simplest, most basic form, democracy is referred
to rule of the people. Being the broad term it is, democracy tends to be represented in various ways
around the world. Despite these differences in representation, the endgame is all the same, a rule in
the interest of the people. Using specific countries as models, I strategize to discuss the differences
between compulsory voting in Australia and voluntary voting in Canada to determine whether
compulsory voting augments the quality of democracy. In this essay, I argue compulsory voting
enhances the quality of democracy. Through the lens of different voting systems, I plan to defend
my claim by discussing the effect that voter turnout, civic duty and accurate representation has on
the quality of democracy. While voting is only one of the countless elements involved in politics, it
continues to be the very foundation of our democracy, affecting every aspect of our lives. Whether
compulsory or voluntary, voting exists as a link between ourselves and those who have the
authority to implement our interests. The ability to vote is a

The Debate Over Time Resistance From Ignorance And Fear
Over time resistance to change is replaced by the adoration of beauty through scientific inquiry.
Resistance to change springs from ignorance and fear. People rejected Galileo s heliocentric
model of the universe without even studying the science (177). People would have rather falsely
believed that they were at the center of creation then have to admit that they were the third
planet from the sun. They rejected Galileo s new discovery out of fear and embellished
themselves in their ignorance. Their ignorance lead them further and further from the truth and
its beauty. They even adopted false ideas about the bible and thus distorted an important part of
their life (Galileo, 177). A life of resistance is dangerous because it causes one to flee from the
truth and live in ignorance and lies. People have tried to help save others form the dangers of
resisting change. Galileo tried to correct the false ideas and misconceptions people had about his
heliocentric model. He stressed that the bible was meant for salvation and not explaining nature
(Galileo 182). He also stated that if each word of the bible was taken literally then it would
contradict itself and would anthropomorphize God, who is supposed to be above human form and
nature (Galileo 181). He made efforts to end their resistance by showing them that they had no way
of rejecting the truth and that their false arguments were destructive to their faith. He told them a
better way of looking at the bible to help them get

How Do Actions Speak Louder Than Words In King Lear
Shakespeare shows that actions speak louder than words, and that one should not give up their
power to another. Shakespeare does this by showing that even though two of King Lear s
daughters said they loved him they still refused to obey him, and by showing that giving up all of
your power is the same as being a nobody. Through the play King Lear, Shakespeare shows how
one should not be judged based on words, but by their actions. Goneril told King Lear that she
loves him more than words can wield the matter (line 53 54). This quote shows that King Lear s
oldest daughter says that she loves him, and the King believes this and gives half his kingdom to
her. Later in the play the King is told by the fool that he has borest thy ass on thy back o er the dirt
which is when the King starts to realize that his daughters, two of which were given half of the
kingdom, lied to him when they told him they loved him because they only wanted the kingdom

Terrance Hayes s Magical Writing Essay
Terrance Hayes s Magical Writing Terrance Hayes is an American poet who published his first
poetry in 1999. His poetry was a big hit from the time that he published it. Terrance Hayes won an
award for his first poem book that was published in the nineties. After achieving this award, he
continued to publish poems that took the world by storm. Terrance Hayes has maintained his status
among the elite poets that are still walking this earth. He eventually published more poetrybooks
that also won an array of awards for various different reasons including the best book for 2006.
The way that Terrance Hayes sculpts each one of his poems into a magnificent piece of art is
like no other poet. Contained in his latest work, What it Look Like, Terrance Hayes use of style,
cultural context, symbolism and his use of stereotypes makes this poem one of his most elegant
pieces, that can reach communities with the amount meaning that it includes. Terrance Hayes has
an articulate style to his poem, What it Look Like, in that it has an abnormal flow to it. First,
there is no rhyme scheme to it. There are numerous amounts of poems that do not have a rhyme,
but for the most part they have some other type of structure to them. This type of structure could
include a certain number of syllables per line or they could display a certain number of words per
line. Other structures could include blank verse, epic, acrostic, etc. Terrance Hayes s Poem, What
it Look Like, is an example of a free

Negative Effects Of Urban Development On The Environment...
Beaches are some of the most romanticized places on the planet, for good reason; however, the
encroachment of humans onto beach and coastal habitats has resulted in several negative outcomes.
At Santa Monica State Beach (and adjoining pier), one of the most popular and polluted beaches in
California, the impacts of urban development, industry, and other man made problems have caused
mass pollution in the surrounding environment. The effects this pollution has on the coastal
wildlife, water quality, and human health are catastrophic to the ecology and natural habitat of the
beach. The beach began to decline in the early twentieth century with the construction of the Santa
MonicaPier in 1909 after sixteen weeks of construction that on its own resulted in many tons of
concrete being poured into Santa Monica Bay (City of Santa Monica, 2015). Over the next few
decades land developers, and beach goers alike contributed a toxic combination of chemicals,
bacteria, and trash that has resulted in Santa Monica Bay having several dead zones (Heal the Bay,
2015), which devastate the marine life population.
Geology of Santa Monica Beach There is relatively little information on the natural geological
history of Santa Monica State Beach; however, there is an explanation as to why. The beach was
one of the very first beaches in California to be artificially doctored starting in the early twentieth
century. The carousel manufacturer, Charles I.D. Looff, purchased the land directly south

Oracle Employ And Manipulate Users And Roles
Oracle DBAs employ and manipulate users and roles, as well as various other objects on a daily
basis. They do not belong to a schema similar to other objects, including profiles and tablespaces.
Users and roles access schema objects like tables, views, synonyms, and indexes. Even novice
DBAs possess a reasonable awareness of working with tables including querying, updating, reading,
and deleting data from them. Because tables can easily expand in row numbers, performance will
inevitably suffer. An adept DBA should retain a fundamental expertise of indexes to alleviate these
performance issues.
Much like the index of a book, a database index speeds up table searches by adopting pointers to
rows of data in contrast to performing full table scans to locate a minute amount of data. An
index is a data structure (most commonly a B tree) that stores the values for a specific column
in a table. The B tree index is the prevailing index and takes advantage of an efficient algorithm
for searching columns of high cardinality. This type of search is performed in logarithmic time
which exponentially decreases the time to execute a search. Fig 2 illustrates a B tree index and
how it provides more granular levels of information at each level. An index is constructed on the
last name column of a table. Oracle uses Miller as the root node and divides any last names that
are alphabetically less than Miller on the left child node and any last names greater on the right
side. The next level

Beyond Fear, Beyond Death, By J. K. Rowling
J.K. Rowling once said, There s always room for a story that can transport people to another
place. This is a quote from a very famous author saying how people who don t read should start
reading because in your mind you can picture how the story goes and it will teach you
something. People do need to start reading more often because sometimes the books you will
read if their fiction or nonfiction it can help you in school. Some people don t understand how
reading is important. There are several relationships that caused J.K. Rowling s adverse situation
as well as helped. One relationship that caused Rowling s adversity was with her family.
According to the website Beyond Fear, Beyond Death, when J.K. Rowling was born July 31,
1965, her parents Peter and Anne Volant Rowling were expecting a boy. When they found out
they got a girl instead they were not happy about it. Then two years later her parents had another
daughter and they named her Dianne but they cared more for her then Joanne, and that made her
feel that no one cared about her. She felt sad, and the quote she said. I went up to my room and
wept (Wirawan n.pag). Because of how her life was going, she had suicidal feelings and nothing
got after years went on. Another relationship was with her ex husband Jorge Arantes. She stopped
writing Harry Potterfor awhile, moved to Portugal and worked as an English teacher, and then she

Comparing Farris And Morrison s Analysis
Farris presents himself as someone with a lot of knowledge on environmental issues, views
ANWR as a scenic area that should continue to be preserved, and describes oil companies as
holding mistaken views backed with faulty logic. Morrison presents herself as a valid
representation of the Alaskan people, views ANWR as a beautiful landscape with a rich variety
of life, and portrays oil companies as greedy people just using Alaska for profit. Although Farris
and Morrison share similar views, Farris language has sarcastic undertones while criticizing the
ANWR plan while Morrison s has more urgent and serious undertones. This could be explained by
the fact that Farris writing is geared toward a progressive online journal while Morrison s is geared

I will be talking about music changing people s lives. Willie Hugh Nelson is a country musicsinger,
song writer, and guitarplayer, he was an author, poet, and activist. The album Shotgun Willie

There are a lot of times in country music that there is a bass, guitar, singer, piano, and drums. That
is what our band is. The bass and the drums are for keeping the beat and sounding good. The
piano and the guitar are usually leading and if one is then the other is the background. And of
course the singer is the lead singer. Especially in country music, sometimes there are more than one
singer and there is a background singer.
Busking is like showbiz that is the same as an entry level job. If you perform well enough someone
could discover you and you could join the ranks of famous performers. First you have to find a
good place where people walk by or drive, then you can tell people about it and that will get some
to come, and you have to pick a good time to go. If you go when everyone is in school and at work
you won t get money and you won t get discovered.
We had a good turnout. Lots of people went. It is all because we used all of the skills that I have
told you. I learned piano, learned how to play On the Road Again . I had some trouble singing
and playing piano but it all worked out I learned that if you want to get better you need to practice
and push yourself. You will not get anywhere if you stay in the same place.
There are lots of ways that music can impact people s lives. Our project told us to impact the
environment around you, by using music, and we did. We went in

The Use Of Hyperbole In British Literature
Critical Analysis In this analysis I will be discussing the use of hyperbole throughout British
literature. Hyperbole is defined as an extravagant statement or figure of speech not intended to be
taken literally ( Hyperbole ). The use of this literary device is prevalent throughout early and
middle British literature and even through modern day examples. I believe the use of this literary
device in British literature is due to the fact that religion and the aristocracy were integral parts of
the society from the very beginning. Both of these institutions were constraining and controlling.
The use of hyperboleallowed writers to be able to express their thoughts and opinions without fear
of harsh treatment or negative repercussions. In addition, it was possible for the writers to provide
vivid and visceral descriptions of characters and locations. Hyperbole and hyperbolic language are
both significant characteristics of British literature that transcend history. The first piece of
literature I will be examining is The Wanderer. The Wanderer is a piece of early English literature
that describes the characters experiences with exile and the loss of his material wealth. In this early
English poem, the author uses hyperbolic language to describe the internal feelings of The
Wanderer, in addition to, the physical and temporal experience of the exile itself. In doing so, the
author brings attention to the existential crisis the main character has in losing his gold friend and

Are the Values of Liberalism Universal Essay
This is an immensely complex questions which deserves much more time and space than can be
devoted in this essay. However I will endeavor to apply the theories of a number of authors to the
problem and arrive at a reasonable conclusion based upon my analysis of them.
Throughout the course of the essay I will make reference to a number of authors, writing on
subjects of Ethics, Philosophy and Feminism, with the intention of attempting to divine the validity
to the claim of liberalism s universality. To start of with there will be an examination of the theory
of liberalism itself, with particular focus upon the notion of individuality and its conception of
rights in accordance with it. Using the work of George Beiswanger and Bhikhu Parekh I ... Show

It is but one theory among a seas of others. Its enforcement is a point of much debate among
contemporary scholars and policy makers. This is however how the current generation of liberals
seem to view their mission. Not least the Neo liberals of the United States. Effectively typified by
George W. Bush. Throughout the course of this essay I hope to challenge these viewpoints and
perhaps see them change when faced with the arguments against them.
To begin, lets looks at the conception of individualism in liberalism. A central part of the theory of
liberalism is the acceptance of the theory of individualism. This is not however present in a
number of varying culture and represent a unique quality that is possessed by liberalism. In the
debate among liberals a large part of the discussions on individuals if the definition of rights.
Often there is a comparison between the right and the good . There are different conceptions of
the meaning of the words right and good . While adhering to the principle of individuality it is
possible for each persons notion of the good to be different. Individuals can thus be affected
adversely by what another individual considers to be good. An individual can be wronged quite
adequately in the name of right and to the applause of moral men. (George Beiswanger, p. 114,
1950) So using this adversity, how is it possible for liberal governments to ensure that the good has

Lenin s Role in the Bolshevik Revolution of 1917 Essay
Lenin s Role in the Bolshevik Revolution of 1917
After March 1917, the Russian revolution was yet to be completed. The Tsar had been overthrown,
the power and responsibility of the government of Russia had been passed on duelly to the
Provincial Government and the workers Soviet, the most powerful Soviet in Petrograd. In
November 1917, the second revolution was planned, a Bolshevik revolution. Evidence around the
Bolshevik revolution is not completely reliable, but it is widely agreed that events in November
1917 were not as the Bolsheviks later described and boasted.

When Lenin returned from exile in April 1917 and gave his April Theses, his party was stunned.
He was accused of anarchism and madness by the members, even by his wife as she later wrote, It
seems that Ilyich is out of his mind . The April Theses consisted of four main arguments; that the
Provincial Government should not be supported, anti war propaganda should be carried on in the
army, capitalism should be wiped out in Russia and that the land of Russia should be nationalised.
His party s reaction suggests they did not have complete faith in him as a leader. However,
Potresov, one of Lenin s contemporaries states differently when describing Lenin. A man of iron
will and indomitable energy, capable of instilling fanatical faith in the movement and the cause,
and possessed of equal faith in himself. By November, Lenin had convinced the Bolsheviks that
the time for action had come, a reflection that he had a party he could still push, inspire and
control. But Harrison E. Sailsbury a correspondent form Moscow for the New York Times argues
that Lenin only had the firm support of 15 of 25 members on the 15th of October. These two men
give different pictures of the state of the belief the Bolsheviks had in their leader and therefore the
importance of Lenin in his party. Potresov can not be treated as a completely

The Environmental Case
Commons are resources that people have access to, and there is no payment required to use
those resources. Examples of these types of resources are lakes, rivers, oceans, public green
spaces, roads, ocean fisheries and many others. A tragedy of commons is when a person finds
his share of cost of waste he discharges into common areas that other people use, is less than
cost of purifying wastes before releasing them. Many people do not realize that some of their
actions are affecting people more than they know. By adding to the tragedy of commons they are
making resources less available for others. In Layzer s The Environmental Case gives a classic
example of the tragedy of commons by discussing the Crisis and Recovery in the New England
Fisheries. With this case it talks about how since there is no regulation on fishingpeople are fishing
and taking such large amounts of fishit is affecting the amount of fish for other people and making
the resources of certain types of fish scarce. According to Layzer As more fishermen enter a fishery,
each one eventually experiences declining yields for the same unit of effort (in this situation fish).

step in the right direction to fixing the problem. Dealing with a common problem is not
something that can be solved by one person but it takes one person to start the movement to
fixing the problem. In the Crisis and Recovery in the New England Fisheries one solution was to
create property rights. To do this an ITQ or Individual Transferable Quotas need to be distributed
to the fishermen. With an ITQ each individual fishermen or fishing enterprise would receive one
and with that each person would get an exclusive rights to a fishery. They then would be allowed to
take a certain amount of fish in that particular

There he learned a few of the Hmong people s customs, beliefs and traditions. Walt learned that
you do not pat Hmong people or their children on the head ever because they believe the soul
dwells there. Looking someone in the eye was considered rude; that is why everyone looked down
instead of looking Walt directly in the eye. Sue also advised Walt that Hmong people will smile or
grin when yelled at this was a cultural thing related to embarrassment or insecurity.
Goal conflicts are when people disagree about a preferred (ideal) outcome. Three examples of
goal conflicts found in the film Gran Torino are: 1. Walt s conflict with his son in that Walt was
fine living in the house alone after his wife Dorothy died and was secure in taking care of
himself and his home. Walt s son and his wife, on the other hand, felt that Walt would be better off
in a retirement home with amenities. 2. When Walt came to the rescue of Thao and his family as
the gang members tried to drag Thao off with them Walt came out and ran the gang members off
his property with force. Thao s family and the neighborhood considered Walt a hero for saving
Thao from the gang members that night a celebrated him with gifts, flowers and food. Walt had no
interest in becoming their hero; his goal was to get them off his property. Each had different goals
in the confrontation. 3. The priest was upset with Walt s handling of the situation that

Ancient Greece, Democracy, Culture, And Culture
The enduring traditions and institutions that Greek culture extended to most of the Western World
include government and democracy, philosophy, literature, and architecture. Ancient Greece is the
place where modern democracy and government originated from. Democracy is a word that has
Greek origin and is defined as the government by the people to rule. Greeces form of government
was a direct democracywhere the citizens voted for their decision rather than electing people to
make the decision. Athens a Greek city state established the earliest form of democracy. Three
ruling bodies known as the Assembly, council and the Courts separated Greek democracy. The
Assembly elected certain officials and made laws. Majority rules a system in which a group with
the most votes has power was used to make decisions in the Assembly. Currently, in the United
States, the government system they use is a democracy because of Greece. A key difference
between the Greek and US democracy is that the US uses an indirect democracy, in which the
citizens vote on who should represent them. The essence of the US voting system is implemented
because Ancient Greececonducted the motion of allowing people to vote on essential matters.
When The founding fathers of the United States wrote the Constitution much impact derived from
the Athenian legislator, Draco who created the code of law for Athens. An important attribute of
Western civilization is the democratic system. Without the

Diction In Those Winter Sundays By Robert Hayden
In the poem Those Winter Sundays by Robert Hayden, the speaker is reflecting on his past with
his father, but mainly the Sunday mornings he experienced during his childhood. Throughout the
poem, there also happens to be a very dark and possibly even somber tone, which is shown by
using several different types of literary devices. Hayden utilizes strong imagery supported by
diction and substantial symbolism comprehensively. Furthermore, there are various examples of
both alliteration and assonances. The poem does not rhyme and its meter has little to no order.
Although the father labors diligently all day long, and he still manages to be a caring person in his
sons life. The poem s main conflict comes from the son not realizing how good his father
actually was to him until he was much older. When the speaker was a young boy, he regarded his
father as a callous man due to his stern attitude and apparent lack of proper affection towards him.
Now that the son is older, he discovers that even though his father did not express his love in
words, he consistently did with his acts of kindness and selflessness.
Hayden utilizes diction to set a dark and solemn tone throughout the poem. Like the various
examples of imagery, there is also a strong use of underlying symbolism. In the first stanza, the
words cold (1. 2) and fires blaze (1. 5) are used, which introduces a conflict. This is emphasized
in the second stanza when the word cold (2. 1) is used again, later followed by the word warm
(2. 2). In the last stanza, the father eventually had driven out the cold (3. 2). Yet the father had not
ridden the house of the cold air until the end of the poem, which symbolizes how it took his son
several years later to recognize the behaviors in which his father conveyed his love for him.
This arising tone of regret and distance is also formed by the speaker s depiction of his father
having cracked hands that ached, (1. 3) which further signifies the father s struggle with the
severe coldness. The concept of self sacrifice is apparent in this portrayal of his father s disregard to
his own pain in order to provide warmth and light for his family s home. The stirring of banked fires
blaze (1. 5) within the house,

  • 5. Controversy Between William Shakespeare s Plays And Plays William Shakespeare has been marred by controversy of whether or not he actually wrote his plays and poems. William was born on April 23, 1564, in Stratford Upon Avon, United Kingdom. Although he is a famous author and playwright, his early history is actually a cloudy mystery. William Shakespeare didn t write his plays and poems because his entire familyhad a lack of education, there isn t any other documents, such as letters or journals, and he never left Avon or London and all of his plays were staged in Italy. The majority of the residents in Avon couldn t read or write. All of William s family, and most likely him, weren t an exception. He had minimal education, going to grammar school, only because it was free. The grammar school ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Other top tier writers would have journals or letters. Especially if he was in London, he more than likely would ve written to write letters back to his wife and children. He didn t have any other written documents or signatures besides birth records. If he wrote the plays, then he would ve had more signatures and documents that he wrote. Many may suggest that Shakespeare actually did write his poems and plays. But, all of the plays were staged in Italy. He never left Avon besides to go to London. The setting of Italy was very accurate. He would ve had to go there, which he didn t. And you couldn t go to Google and look up pictures of Italy, or just text someone and have them send you pictures and videos. It is a major controversy about if William actually wrote his plays or not. Some believe Francis Bacon could ve done it. Most historians believe Avon was too poor to produce a writer of such a high caliber. It is also a possibility that Sir Walter Raleigh wrote them and said that Shakespeare wrote them. William didn t or couldn t write his plays because, his entire family had a lack of education, there isn t any other documents, such as letters or journals, and he never left Avon or London and all of his plays were staged in ... • 6. The Importance Of Prosocial Behavior Humans are inherently social being meaning they naturally tend to live in groups and that can consist of both kin and nonkin. While humans do form communities there are conflicts that have and will continue to occur because humans possess and exhibit traits both for and against prosocial behavior. These antisocial traits continue to thrive in humans because it is working in conjunction with other traits that are desired in humans or the trait themselves yields unexpected, but welcome behavior. Morality, human s conscience that dictates right from wrong, balances these traits and encourages this prosocial behavior, by enabling important inclinations such as cooperation and altruismthat improve human interactions. Generally speaking, actions that benefit the community will in turn benefit the survival of that individual in the social environments constructed by humans. While there are methods to both suppress unwanted tendencies and encourage wanted tendencies, Boehm focuses a significant amount on these suppression techniques. The suppression of such bad behavior allows coherency in the group. This will cover a few key mechanisms of this suppression including the guidelines created by societies, the regulation of them to uphold such ideals and some of the genetic forces that drive evolution. An important way to maintain a functioning society is to suppress the individuals who are unable to abide by the social norm and therefore threaten to disrupt the balance and order of ... • 7. Consuming Energy Drinks Another issue with consuming energy drinks is that their ingredient make up is not typically provided to the consumer in the form of a nutrition label (Marczinski et al. 2014). The issue with this is that the consumer really has no idea what he or she is consuming. This can be potentially dangerous in its self because this common energy blend that is present in most energy drinks can hold many types of psychoactive compounds such as caffeineand guarana which primarily affect the brain and mind (Marczinski et al. 2014). However, there are many common ingredients that energy drinks contain as well as naturally include hidden sources of caffeine (Higgins et al. 2010). Take Guarana for instance, this is a common ingredient in most, if not all... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Of these eleven listed energy drinks and energy shots, four provide the actual caffeine content on the nutrition label of the can (Red Bull, No Fear, Rip It, and SK Energy), but many provide the consumer with the broad term energy blend, which gives the consumer little to no useful information except for a broad amount of the combined ingredients within that energy blend. Table 2 (below) provides a detailed overview of the ingredient make up. There are many brands of energy drinks available in the world today that hold a vast array of caffeine within. These energy drinks come in a variety of many sizes as well. Energy drinks are hypothesized to hold a higher content of caffeine than any other caffeinated drink tested and will be the unhealthiest option for an energy source. The results of the experiment will be ranked in order based on the caffeine content for each drink. Through this experiment, the outcomes of consuming energy drinks such as their health effects and risks associated with consumption will be evaluated. The worst type of energy drink in the world is predicted to be the more recent energy shot. Energy shots are believed to hold more health effects and risks because it is such a small dosage that is being consumed in such a short time frame. Energy shots are also believed to hold a much higher caffeine level than any other caffeinated drink. A 2 ounce energy shot can easily exceed the FDA approved level of caffeine intake per day and can also hold up to the same amount of caffeine as a 16 ounce energy drink if not ... • 10. Female roles in fifth business Essay Nicholas PrevedelMrs. Machado ENG4U1 01 20 October 2014 Robertson Davies: Fifth Business Dorothy L. Sayers states Wherever you find a great man, you will find a great mother or a great wife standing behind him. Man is a societal construct that is structured and molded by maternal influences and female insight. Typically one is a product of its environment, however Robertson Davies in Fifth Business, deliberately uses female roles to display the impact that women have on the psychological growth of a man. Davies chronologically traces the psyche of Dunstan Ramsay as he matures with the guidance of significant female characters in his life. In Fifth Business, Robertson Davies uses the characterization of Mrs. Ramsay, Diana ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Secondly, Diana Marfleet plays a significant role in the novel as Dunny s first meaningful and realistic love, and a second maternal female in Dunny s life. Diana nursed Dunny back to life, after he was nearly left to die in the war. Diana is characterized as Dunny s second mother, as she brings him back to life, re teaches him the essentials of life, and renames him, Dunstan. Diana catalyzes Dunstan s maturing process, as she initiated him into the world of manhood, sexually, and mentally as he began to form his own decisions. Moreover, to complete his transformation she decides that he should change his name to Dunstan, which mentally gives him the psychological ambition to complete and realize his transformation into a new person in stating I liked the idea of a new name; it suggested new freedom and new personality (Davies 90). Distinctly, being with Diana has made him think about himself for once in life and made him realize that he loves her unconditionally, however, Dunstan states she was too much of a mother to me. (Davies 81). This motherly attraction to Diana drives Dunstan away from her, as he knows that their relationship could not have lasted. Finally, throughout the novel, Mary Dempster has an impactful role in the growth of Dunstan Ramsay. Mary teaches Dunny to disregard the moral rules of society, and to behave in a manner that is unselfish and for the betterment of others. Dunny admires Mary ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 11. Critical Analysis Of Shostakovich Cello Concerto No. 2 Shostakovich Cello Concerto No. 2 Dmitri Shostakovich is known as one of the most major composers within the 20th century. This composer, born in 1906 in Saint Petersburg, Russia discovered his musical talent at age 9 after beginning piano lessons with his mother. Throughout the years, he learned full piano and composition which lead to his graduation from the Saint Petersburg Conservatory at age 19 with his first symphony. Shostakovich often times found difficulty in balancing his artistic inspiration and the demands of the soviet state. Shostakovich is recognized for his themes of solemn ambivalence as well as for his ability to incorporate deep emotional range within his work. For this review, I chose to watch Shostakovich Cello Concerto No. 2. This concert was performed by the State Academic Symphony Orchestra of the USSR. The conductor of this concert was Yevgeny Svetlanov and the violoncellist performing was Mstislav Rostropovich. Shostakovich Cello Concerto No. 2 was performed in the Large Hall of Moscow State Conservatory on September 25th, 1966. This concerto is about 35 minutes long and has three movements throughout the work. In my opinion, Shostakovich Cello Concerto No. 2 is full of unpredictability and emotional melancholy. It seems as if the first movement conveys such a dark tone which within itself exemplifies the piece in a dreary and mysterious light. It feels as if some extremely somber themes are being explored within the beginning of the movement. The ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

RenГ© Lalique was born in 1860 and first began designing fine jewelry in Paris in 1881. Lalique pursued increasingly more innovative experimentation in glass commencing around 1883. Early works used the familiar lost wax technique by which the model is made in wax while a mold is formed around the model. Then, the wax is melted and molten glass is poured into the mold. Lalique glass was made in this manner until approximately 1905 at which time the factory was redesigned for a larger production. As such, the individual uniqueness of each example of Lalique glass came to an end with the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Some of these creations are now on display at the Orrefors Glass Museum. The news that artists were engaged in a glasshouse for the first time attracted gifted glassblowers to Orrefors. The union of glassblowers and artists led to joint development of techniques such as Graal and Ariel , and to further development of the traditional Bohemian cooper wheel engraving. On the whole, Orrefors offered broad scope for experiment and innovation with new techniques being developed and older ones refined and this is still the case today. Success led to the arrival of new designers. The graphic artist Vicke Lindstrand came to Orrefors in 1928, and designed glass that was painted or engraved. Nils Landberg and Sven Palmqvist came at the end of the 1920 s as engravers, apprentices, and after service as assistants to Simon Gate and Edward Hald became full fledged glass artists during the 1930 s. The sculptor Edvin Ohrstrom joined Orrefors in 1936. • 13. Essay about Moral Hazard The theme of moral hazard comes up numerous times throughout the movie, Too Big To Fail and is an extremely important factor when considering what happened in September of 2007 and its consequences. By definition, moral hazard is, the risk that a party to a transaction has not entered into the contract in good faith, has provided misleading information about its assets, liabilities or credit capacity, or has an incentive to take unusual risks in a desperate attempt to earn a profit before the contract settles (Investopedia). Basically it s when others such as these investment banks are careless with the money invested by the people because it isn t their money or their risk. This was the case throughout many points in the film. First,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Ultimately, U.S Treasury Secretary Henry Paulsondirected CEO of Lehman Brothers, Dick Fuld to declare bankruptcy before the market opened. They decided against bailing them out and preached to the public about moral hazard. In this situation, if they were to bail Lehman Brothers out, it would promote the theory that, it wouldn t matter if banks are careless with others money if they are going to get bailed out anyway, and also what is stopping these banks from not repeating the same mistake if the Fed bails them out in the end. This came over well initially in the public for those exact reasons but soon turned. Because of Lehman Brothers counterparty risk, it affected the entire financial market and another giant, AIG, began to collapse. With AIG failing it would cause the entire financial system to fall and cause massive problems. Due to these reasons Paulson lobbied for the government to intervene and eventually they did and passed the Emergency Economic Stabilization Act of 2008, which allowed Paulson to spend up to 700 billion to purchase securities and inject cash directly into banks. They ended up doing exactly what they weren t willing to with Lehman Brothers and their preaching against moral hazard went right out the window when they decided to bail out AIG. • 14. A Sphere Poem In his 2006 collection, District and Circle , Seamus Heaney responds to the ever changing and developing world around him. To do so he often relies upon the exploration of the past, memory, and personal identity through the use of language. In the second poem of District and Circle , A Shiver , Seamus Heaney is dependent upon these concepts to construct a thematically rich poem. Heaney s A Shiver utilises language to explore the themes of the past, memory, and personal identity. The Petrarchan sonnetdescribes the action of wielding a tool: the energy that is associated with it, as well as an understanding of the destructive power that it wields: the way you had to stand to swing the sledge . By using a Petrarchan sonnet Heaney introduces the concept of the past within his poetry, due to the historical context of the Renaissance style of writing. The description of the tool, in past tense and therefore illuminating Heaney s fascination of the past, ultimately leads to a metaphor in regards to what occurs when strength, and therefore power, falls into the wrong hands. The tool that is used within A Shiver to demonstrate this power is a sledgehammer most commonly used by labourers as a way to demolish material items and it is implied that Heaney himself has operated the sledgehammer and is, almost, frightened by its power. This can then be contributed to the overall metaphor of misused power. This metaphor also demonstrates Heaney s personal narrative voice within ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 15. Desmin As A Type IIi Intermediate Filament Protein Desmin: Its Role in Desminopathy Introduction Desmin is a type III intermediate filament protein that is muscle specific and is found in all muscle types: smooth, cardiac, and skeletal. Autosomal dominant and autosomal recessive desmin gene mutations affect desmin (DES) and oftentimes О±ОІ crystallin (CRYAB), a chaperone for DES, which leads to a type myofibrillar myopathy, known as desminopathy (Goldfarb et al., 2010). Desmin is the most abundant IF protein in striated and smooth muscle cells and is one of the earliest markers of muscle development (Clemen et al., 2012). Desmin filaments are mainly located at the periphery of Z disk of striated muscles and at the dense bodies of smooth muscle cells, and they have been thought to play a major role in the maintenance of structural and mechanical integrity of the contractile apparatus in muscle tissues (Paulin Li, 2004). A dysfunctional desmin protein cannot properly interact with Z discs, leading to abnormalities of sarcomere structure and problems with the formation of myofibrils (NIH, 2016). The resulting pathology, desminopathy, is one of the most common intermediate filament human disorders associated with mutations in closely interacting proteins (Goldfarb Dalakas, 2009). This condition is defined as skeletal and cardiac myopathy characterized by the presence of chimeric aggregates in muscle fiber areas that consist of DES, CRYAB and other proteins (Goldfarb et al., 2010). • 16. Discretion In Policing State and territory police play a pivotal role in protecting community safety and protection. Policing was a combination of national economic interests, domestic and international security, and represented in time by distinctive organizations (Chapman, 1970; Emsley, 1994). They have responsibility for peace preservation, and crimeprevention as well as upholding the laws, providing assistance in personal emergencies, and coordinating and managing emergency incidents. Since the policecan employ the discretionary powers, which is a flexible way to dispose of social problems, in a manner that either directs offenders to or diverts them away from, further penetration into the justice system, they are seen as the gatekeepers of the criminal justicesystem, model authority, and law abiding enforcement (Rob and Santina, 2015, p.348; Wortley, 2003). They seek to sustain politically defined order and ordering via tracking, surveillance, and arrest. As such, they require compliance to command from lower participants and citizens. (Peter and Jeffrey, 2015, p.246). Discretion is universal and legitimate power applied by criminal justice professionals in modern policing, which requires employing individual judgment for adjudicating whether they use a legal sanction in a particular situation (McLaughlin, 2013). ... These influences are seen in the chapter, Two Worlds and its similarity to Genesis; the mark of Cain and its connection to Thus Spoke Zarathustra, and the preparation for World War 2 to Nietzsche s concept of preparatory human beings. Hesse s influence from the Bible is seen in chapter one, Two Worlds through the similarity between Sinclair s childhood life and the story of the Fall in Genesis. Demian has major similarities to Nietzsche s, Thus Spoke Zarathustra which is seen through Hesse s mention of the mark of Cain. In chapter two, Cain , Sinclair and Demian are taught the story of Cain and Abel in school. As expected, the boys learn the story as it is told in the bible, Cain receives a mark on his forehead to indicate he is evil. However, Demian explains to Sinclair that he interpreted (the story) in a completely different way. (Hesse 22) Demian believes that the mark on Cain s forehead is not an indication of evil rather, it is a mark of power that threatened and scared everyone. When Sinclair and Demian part different ways after their conversation, Sinclair questions, he not himself a kind of Cain? (...) Why does he have such a power in his eyes, and why does he speak so scornfully about the others , the fearful ones, who, after all are actually pious and pleasing to G d? (Hesse 25) Hesse s inclusion of this quote is to reveal that Sinclair sees Demian as Cain, due to his sense of power and opposition from the others. Later, the reader learns that Sinclair also has the mark of Cain. Hesse demonstrates this when Sinclair and Demian are reunited as teenagers and Demian says, you ve changed. But you have the sign (...) we used to call it the mark of Cain. (Hesse 109) Demian defines those with the mark as, considered strange, even crazy and dangerous, by the rest of the world. We were awakened, or at least awakening; our efforts were directed toward ever more complete awareness, while others always longed to merge their opinions, ideals, and duties, their lives and their happiness, more and more closely with those of the herd. (Hesse 117) this quote indicates that having the mark of Cain implies that one separates oneself from mass thinking, the herd. A possible solution to ease up Wikileaks aggressive nature is to release tidbits of information, and rally the people to pressure the government in releasing the rest. The definition of bubbles and how they affect investment This section will focus on the analysis about how bubbles affect investors behaviors. Since bubbles are closely connected with crises, doing research on investors behaviors about overvalued assets can help economists to understand crises fundamental. Therefore it is good for governments to take actions to prevent these crises. The first part of this section will describe the definition of bubbles in detail, and the second part will illustrate relevant empirical evidences to further explain how bubbles affect investing behaviors. 2.1 Theoretical research C. Finally he found investors behaviors in terms of the overvalued assets played an important role in this process. Joesph E. Stiglitz (1990) agreed with the theory above, and suggested that if investors thought assets could be sold over their expectation, they would do more investment, and then assets actual price would increase, which also means the bubbles would appearance. He thought it is important to prove the existence of bubbles, since they can implicate the future decrease of assets price. Therefore governments could take actions to control investors behaviors and avoid crises. But by taking the 1960s crisis as an example, he found bubbles existence was difficult to test. It is because bubbles would not exist only if the assets discount rate increased equal to the assets price, which means the assets value would be equal to the discount value. But this equilibrium is not expectable. Then Stiglitz proposed that the markets might have multiple equilibriums, so he collected many economists thoughts about this opinion. But he found models of different economists were developed in terms of different methods, so they cannot reach an agreement. But he suggested that it is still important for economists to analyze this problem in further studies. Basing on the research of other economists, Robert S. For the complete stress strain curve, the test parameters are difficult to be separated from the material and structural parameters. The softening behavior of concrete, as found in laboratory tests, depends strongly on structural aspects such as specimen dimensions, boundary conditions and feed back signal. And it also depends on test parameters such as testing machine characteristics, friction restraint between loading plates, allowable rotations of loading plates before and during the test and loading rates as well as on the concretecomposition. Uniaxial compression tests on cubes and cylinders, with different heights, have shown that a stress strain curve of concrete is not a material property but a mix of structural and material behavior. 4.2.5. • 33. Difference Between Inorganic Growth And Organic Growth Organic growth is where a company grows by increasing its turnover/sales revenues. (It can also be defined as growth of a company by building on its existing knowledge or resources). With an increased revenue the company can easily make profits, it then ploughs back the profits into the business enabling it to grow. To increase turnover/sales revenue the company can do so through increasing its customers (find new customers to add to existing ones) or developing new products. For instance, Sunlight and Berendsen growth is attributed more to organic growth whereby they have been able to increase their customers in existing locations and new EU operational areas. Inorganic growth is growth generated through the company joining with other companies. Organic growth can be by mergers or takeovers. A merger is where two companies through an agreement join. They agree on how to conduct their operations, resource sharing among other aspects of their business. A takeover is whereby a company buys/owns 51% or more of the shares of another company (The Times 100, n.d). This gives it a right to majority voting power, it controls the management and financial decisions of the business. Inorganic growth can take place via horizontal integration or vertical integration. Two different novels, Brave New World, by Aldous Huxley, and The Road, by Cormac McCarthy, display these characteristics because of the ways the authors institute such mechanisms. Brave New Worlddescribes a futuristic era where humans are genetically manufactured for a certain job predestined to them before they are artificially created, and where common human emotions, desires, wants, and needs have all been modified to support a deemed utopian society where everyone lives and works together in harmony. Huxley uses accurate, developed characterization and goes into great detail about the characters because this characterization ties into the plot. Since the theme of the novel reflects on how technology can change our world for the worse, by using accurate descriptions of the characters, their thoughts, and their actions, Huxley is able to more accurately show the audience how changes in a new society can contrast to the standards we have set for our society today. In addition, Huxley makes a special point to emphasize how material goods such as clothing can define a character in this society. Huxley purposefully establishes these simple social distinctions in characterization in order to emphasize the effect of the theme. Found in his novel, the following passage reads, What a hideous color khaki is (Huxley 62). This remark is made by an upper class woman who is characterized as better because of the programmed idea that wearing khaki is a sign ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Paul Cazanne Paul CГ©zanne s Mount Sainte Victoire Paul CГ©zanne is often called the first modernist painter, and in his essay, CГ©zanne and the Unity of Modern Art Clement Greenberg, identifies CГ©zanne as the most abundant generator of ideas and the most enduring in newness (Greenberg,83). This, coming from one of the most influential art critics of the twentieth century, is not to be taken lightly. CГ©zanne was extremely influential to the modernist painters of the early twentieth, including Pablo Picasso and George Braque in their development of Cubism(Orfila,3). Although the concept of entrepreneurship is highly debated on what it is exactly, in a simple way it is acting on one s knowledge and thoughts and developing those into innovations, which in the end will improve the world and in return hopefully allow the entrepreneurto receive a gain in either a monetary or non monetary sense. Within entrepreneurship, there are many different fields to this broad business platform. Since I am a collegiate basketball player and have been surrounded by sports my entire life, I have decided to focus on entrepreneurship within the sports industry. Again, this is growing rapidly along with entrepreneurship, however, if one would research this specific field of entrepreneurship, they would find that it is a young practice. In this paper, I will be focusing on the owners in the NBA specifically comparing and contrasting the newer owners verses the older owners. Primarily most of the newer owners are younger guys who made most of their money in uncertain business deals that led to large profits. Thus, they are successful entrepreneurs who took their skills and prior knowledge and applied that to the NBA. On the other hand, older NBA owners provide an old school business approach, which is usually based off instincts and knowledge of the game. Therefore, the issue I will be discussing will regard owning a NBA team, which I will go in depth to talk about why the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 41. Futility, Spring Offensive And Exposure By Wilfred Owen Eco critics ask questions such as whether or not Everything is connected to everything else , in order to explore the realms of human thought. In relation to Wilfred Owen s poems; Futility, Spring Offensive, and Exposure, this theory that all living things are interconnected is a multifaceted one. Natureis used heavily as a centralised motif in each of them, albeit in different ways, in order to represent a range of both internal and external battles Owen s soldiers are forced to undergo during active service in the war. The soldiers are also depicted to depend on, as well as exploit their rural surroundings in equal measure, particularly concerning military action. As a concept, ecocriticism is a contemporary approach and it is therefore highly unlikely that Owen would have intentionally included such heavily cited links with eco criticism, especially considering that he claimed his subject to be, war and the pity of war . Owen himself believed that the war he was fighting was needless, and only caused pain and suffering. His work sheds light on the harsh, brutality of warfare whilst challenging the patriotic nature of other existing war poems at the time, believing that they did not truly depict the war he was all too familiar with, true Poets must be Truthful . However, applying Owen s work through an ecological perspective is not a completely futile, as Owen s depth of understanding can provide us with insight into the effect humans, particularly soldiers, had on their biosphere during this period in history and vice versa; this is, The fundamental premise that human culture is connected to the physical world, affecting it and affected by it. It is these connections with the natural world that highlight both Owen s love of the natural world, influenced by the likes of Romanticist poet John Keats, and his sense of anguish towards humanity and their distorted concept of war. The obscure relationship between man and environment is addressed abundantly throughout each of the throughout the three poems, as it is made apparent that Owen tended to use pathetic fallacy as a motif to reflect the internal conflicts of the soldiers. When the weather is peaceful, the soldiers are too, as seen briefly in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

But what exactly constitutes as democracy? Democracy is a term holding a spectrum of meanings, many frequently overlapping. In its simplest, most basic form, democracy is referred to rule of the people. Being the broad term it is, democracy tends to be represented in various ways around the world. Despite these differences in representation, the endgame is all the same, a rule in the interest of the people. Using specific countries as models, I strategize to discuss the differences between compulsory voting in Australia and voluntary voting in Canada to determine whether compulsory voting augments the quality of democracy. In this essay, I argue compulsory voting enhances the quality of democracy. Through the lens of different voting systems, I plan to defend my claim by discussing the effect that voter turnout, civic duty and accurate representation has on the quality of democracy. While voting is only one of the countless elements involved in politics, it continues to be the very foundation of our democracy, affecting every aspect of our lives. Whether compulsory or voluntary, voting exists as a link between ourselves and those who have the authority to implement our interests. The ability to vote is a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 44. The Debate Over Time Resistance From Ignorance And Fear Over time resistance to change is replaced by the adoration of beauty through scientific inquiry. Resistance to change springs from ignorance and fear. People rejected Galileo s heliocentric model of the universe without even studying the science (177). People would have rather falsely believed that they were at the center of creation then have to admit that they were the third planet from the sun. They rejected Galileo s new discovery out of fear and embellished themselves in their ignorance. Their ignorance lead them further and further from the truth and its beauty. They even adopted false ideas about the bible and thus distorted an important part of their life (Galileo, 177). A life of resistance is dangerous because it causes one to flee from the truth and live in ignorance and lies. People have tried to help save others form the dangers of resisting change. Galileo tried to correct the false ideas and misconceptions people had about his heliocentric model. He stressed that the bible was meant for salvation and not explaining nature (Galileo 182). He also stated that if each word of the bible was taken literally then it would contradict itself and would anthropomorphize God, who is supposed to be above human form and nature (Galileo 181). Shakespeare does this by showing that even though two of King Lear s daughters said they loved him they still refused to obey him, and by showing that giving up all of your power is the same as being a nobody. Through the play King Lear, Shakespeare shows how one should not be judged based on words, but by their actions. Beaches are some of the most romanticized places on the planet, for good reason; however, the encroachment of humans onto beach and coastal habitats has resulted in several negative outcomes. At Santa Monica State Beach (and adjoining pier), one of the most popular and polluted beaches in California, the impacts of urban development, industry, and other man made problems have caused mass pollution in the surrounding environment. The effects this pollution has on the coastal wildlife, water quality, and human health are catastrophic to the ecology and natural habitat of the beach. The beach began to decline in the early twentieth century with the construction of the Santa MonicaPier in 1909 after sixteen weeks of construction that on its own resulted in many tons of concrete being poured into Santa Monica Bay (City of Santa Monica, 2015). Over the next few decades land developers, and beach goers alike contributed a toxic combination of chemicals, bacteria, and trash that has resulted in Santa Monica Bay having several dead zones (Heal the Bay, 2015), which devastate the marine life population. Geology of Santa Monica Beach There is relatively little information on the natural geological history of Santa Monica State Beach; however, there is an explanation as to why. They do not belong to a schema similar to other objects, including profiles and tablespaces. Users and roles access schema objects like tables, views, synonyms, and indexes. Even novice DBAs possess a reasonable awareness of working with tables including querying, updating, reading, and deleting data from them. Because tables can easily expand in row numbers, performance will inevitably suffer. An adept DBA should retain a fundamental expertise of indexes to alleviate these performance issues. Much like the index of a book, a database index speeds up table searches by adopting pointers to rows of data in contrast to performing full table scans to locate a minute amount of data. An index is a data structure (most commonly a B tree) that stores the values for a specific column in a table. The B tree index is the prevailing index and takes advantage of an efficient algorithm for searching columns of high cardinality. This type of search is performed in logarithmic time which exponentially decreases the time to execute a search. Fig 2 illustrates a B tree index and how it provides more granular levels of information at each level. An index is constructed on the last name column of a table. • 54. The Use Of Hyperbole In British Literature Critical Analysis In this analysis I will be discussing the use of hyperbole throughout British literature. Hyperbole is defined as an extravagant statement or figure of speech not intended to be taken literally ( Hyperbole ). The use of this literary device is prevalent throughout early and middle British literature and even through modern day examples. I believe the use of this literary device in British literature is due to the fact that religion and the aristocracy were integral parts of the society from the very beginning. Both of these institutions were constraining and controlling. The use of hyperboleallowed writers to be able to express their thoughts and opinions without fear of harsh treatment or negative repercussions. In addition, it was possible for the writers to provide vivid and visceral descriptions of characters and locations. Hyperbole and hyperbolic language are both significant characteristics of British literature that transcend history. The first piece of literature I will be examining is The Wanderer. The Wanderer is a piece of early English literature that describes the characters experiences with exile and the loss of his material wealth. In this early English poem, the author uses hyperbolic language to describe the internal feelings of The Wanderer, in addition to, the physical and temporal experience of the exile itself. Walt s son and his wife, on the other hand, felt that Walt would be better off in a retirement home with amenities. 2. When Walt came to the rescue of Thao and his family as the gang members tried to drag Thao off with them Walt came out and ran the gang members off his property with force. Thao s family and the neighborhood considered Walt a hero for saving Thao from the gang members that night a celebrated him with gifts, flowers and food. Walt had no interest in becoming their hero; his goal was to get them off his property. Each had different goals in the confrontation. 3. • 60. Diction In Those Winter Sundays By Robert Hayden In the poem Those Winter Sundays by Robert Hayden, the speaker is reflecting on his past with his father, but mainly the Sunday mornings he experienced during his childhood. Throughout the poem, there also happens to be a very dark and possibly even somber tone, which is shown by using several different types of literary devices. Hayden utilizes strong imagery supported by diction and substantial symbolism comprehensively. Furthermore, there are various examples of both alliteration and assonances. The poem does not rhyme and its meter has little to no order. Although the father labors diligently all day long, and he still manages to be a caring person in his sons life. The poem s main conflict comes from the son not realizing how good his father actually was to him until he was much older. When the speaker was a young boy, he regarded his father as a callous man due to his stern attitude and apparent lack of proper affection towards him. Now that the son is older, he discovers that even though his father did not express his love in words, he consistently did with his acts of kindness and selflessness. Hayden utilizes diction to set a dark and solemn tone throughout the poem. Like the various examples of imagery, there is also a strong use of underlying symbolism. In the first stanza, the words cold (1. 2) and fires blaze (1. 5) are used, which introduces a conflict. This is emphasized in the second stanza when the word cold (2. 1) is used again, later followed by the word warm (2. 2). In the last stanza, the father eventually had driven out the cold (3. 2). Yet the father had not ridden the house of the cold air until the end of the poem, which symbolizes how it took his son several years later to recognize the behaviors in which his father conveyed his love for him. This arising tone of regret and distance is also formed by the speaker s depiction of his father having cracked hands that ached, (1. 3) which further signifies the father s struggle with the severe coldness. The concept of self sacrifice is apparent in this portrayal of his father s disregard to his own pain in order to provide warmth and light for his family s home. The stirring of banked fires blaze (1. 5) within the house, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
