The Science Of Social Psychology
If you put good apples into a bad situation, you ll get bad apples , said Philip G. Zimbardo, a
prominent researcher of the field of social psychology. What is social psychology, you might
ask? In short, it represents and defines an individual s actions when the said individual is placed
in a social situation. It also defines how you choose to act, often subconsciously, in the face of
others. The science of social psychology is a youthful one, it s existence barely a century old.
However, it is with it s existence that we are able to decipher topics such as conformity,
independence, and identity on a logical basis. We use it, to a degree, to study how every group has
an impact on a singular entity, as well as how those impacts end up... Show more content on

His theories were tested in his famous line test experiments, where a participant, placed last in a
row of other participants (actors) were to choose the correct corresponding line for a set of lines.
However, all the actors were instructed to answer incorrectly, leading the participants to conform,
on average, about one third (32%) (Asch 1 70) of the time in the complete trials. In addition, the
varying cases monitored had shown that 75% of the participants had conformed at least once
(McLeod) during the duration of their tests. The majority of the subjects felt that their judgement
was clouded, or, more surprisingly, knew that the group was incorrect yet went with the flow to
avoid conflict. The real world impacts of this trial are massive: By placing individuals in groups,
there bears the risk of conformity overtaking the free will of the group through the want of the
individual to fit in, known as normative influence, or the clouding of their judgement through
believing that the group has the better answer, known as informational influence. This can have
massive repercussions in group centric fields such as politics, or affect the opinions of the
members of a group during discussions. In addition, the urge to fit in , often experienced by many
teenagers, is attributed to the same effect. Conformity is a powerful force, capable of weakening

Sex Trafficking Research Paper
Sex trafficking is a huge problem within the world today. According to Equality Now, which is an
organization that helps to advocate for trafficking, estimates about 20.9 million adults and children
are bought and sold worldwide (Global Sex Trafficking). One particular country where this is a
problem is Cambodia. Cambodia native Somaly Mam founded Agir Pour les Femmes en Situation
Precaire (AFESIP) and cofounded the Somaly Mam Foundation. AFESIP helps sex trafficking
victims escape trafficking and emotionally and economically heal while the Somaly Mam
Foundation works on a three step approach: action, advocacy, and awareness (Finley). Together
with these two organizations Somaly Mam was able to fight back sex trafficking and help thousands

College Is Not Good Memories Essay
When I think back to when I was in college, nothing but good memories comes to mind. College
was by far the best time of my life. If I could sum it up, college would be the best four year party
that I will ever attend. I remember it like it was yesterday; going to class, playing football and
pretty much being a kid, but this time mom and dad wasn t around to tell you your bedtime.
Even though college was a blast, the effects of college played a huge role in molding me to the
young man I am today. By choosing to go to college and graduate, I was able to do something
nobody in my family has ever done before, and that was play a collegiate sport. I was also able to
walk away with a Bachelors of Science Degree in Civil Engineering Technology. But every good
story must come to an end, but in this case, every great four year party must come to an end.
When that party ended, I also was left with a fat bill called student loans. If I knew as an 18 year
old kid what debt I would be getting myself into, things might have been a little different. The
effect of me going to college brings me to my first love, football. I played the game of football
since I was 4th grade. It never dawned on me that one day it would take me to college. I played four
years as a strong safety for the Colorado University Pueblo Thunderwolves, three of them as a
starter. As an individual I was able to garner various all conference and all regional awards. But all
of that doesn t even come close

Julia Morgan Hearst Castle Analysis
tremendous strength. Because the weight of these walls are so strong, in order to reduce both
weight and material almost all of the brick walls were built with inclined faces (Hamlin 33).
William insisted upon incorporating these Egyptian walls to symbolize the strength of the Hearst
family and the power their ambitions had on the community (Hamlin 34). Not only did Julia
Morgan choose to incorporate Egyptian design because of the strength it gave to the structures, but
also because of the impact it had within artwork. These works of art are considered the oldest
pieces in the collection, dating back from the New Kingdom (Hamlin 42). The New Kingdom is the

Julia Morgan received her inspiration for the designs seen in Hearst Castle from Hearst s
extensive collection of treasures found throughout the world, and from her own travels as an
architect. As these two came together, they created an eclectic and unique mix of all of these
styles into one estate in which Morgan was able to incorporate many European, African, Asian,
and other architectural designs into the different features of Hearst Castle (Gondo 54).
Throughout his life, Hearst dreamed of building a dwelling similar to those he had seen on his
European tour as a boy (Coffman 12). His dream was finally fulfilled when he saw how the
finished product had impacted his family and the community. After William Hearst s death in
1951, Hearst Castle was preserved by his family as not only a home, but a national landmark,
where people from all over the world came to witness its splendidness. The construction of
Hearst Castle is a significant period of time, in which the new idea of combining cultures within
design is put to the test. The popularity of this idea grows nationwide, allowing an era of
experimentation in architecture to provoke (The 72). Following this era, came the arise of new
forms of design, including modern and bauhaus. Not only is a new age of design abided out of the
construction of Hearst Castle, but a new generation of architects. These architects are inspired by
Julia Morgan s fearlessness, perseverance, and willingness to take risks in her career. She portrays
all these characteristics when she attempts to incorporate a variety of contrasting cultures into a
massive estate and succeeds. This ambition that William Randolph Hearst carried, with the
assistance of architect Julia Morgan and

Comparing Werner And Siddhartha
Werner seeks to change his destiny while Siddhartha searches for himself. Werner from All the
Light We Cannot See and Siddhartha from Siddhartha set out on journeys to change the inevitable.
Although Werner and Siddhartha s journey s on searching and seeking are very different due to the
time periods, they can be compared by using Joseph Campbell s monomyth theory, most
prominently separation and initiation. Both journeys tell an exquisite story, by starting with leaving
their normal world. The first stage of Joseph Campbell s monomyth theory is Separation. During the
separation stage, the hero is separated from the normal world. Beginning with a call to adventure,

Werner begins to fix radios and becomes well known in town as a handy man. He fixes a Nazi
generals radio and this is the first time you see Werner s life changing. The Nazi general, as a
reward for fixing the radio, offers Werner a one in a lifetime chance and offers Werner a place at
a Nazi school. Both Werner and Siddhartha a tempted by what they find. Siddhartha is tempted
by money while Werner is tempted by the school. Werner begins a road of trials and is noticed
by a head at the school named Dr. Hauptman, he then begins to train Werner to be better equipped
at fixing radios. Siddhartha and Werner s journey starts to really change because they both leave
behind what they were seeking. Werner leaves the school because Dr. Hauptman lies about his age
and he is sent into the military. He joins a special force that hunts down anti German radio
broadcasts. Siddhartha returns to the ferryman and leaves his material life behind. Next both
characters go through an ultimate boon. When Siddhartha was in town, after meeting a woman
and becoming very close with her he left. What he didn t know was that she was pregnant. Her
and their now few year old son searched for Siddhartha, then found him but the woman died of a
snake bite. Siddhartha was left with his son, who had no interest in him at all. Siddhartha comes to

The Bronze Statuette
The Bronze Statuette of a Veiled and Masked Dancer is a small bronze statuette, measuring just
over eight inches, that dates from the 3rd to 2nd century B.C., Hellenistic Greece. The Dancer is
displayed in a glass box, just below eye level, which makes her accessible to be viewed all the way
around. She is completely covered save for her eyes, hands, and one foot. Wearing a dress and a
veil pulled taught by a corner in each hand, the woman is said to be dancer from Alexandria,
Egypt. Both the undergarment and veil fall in deep pleats across her body; in some areas, the
fabric is thin enough to reveal the movement of her muscles under the fabric. One arm cuts across
her body, holding the veil up by her opposite ear. Her eyes, not covered by... Show more content on

Her clothing, which falls in many layers, both obscures and reveals her figure. The only areas of
her person which are visible are her eyes, both hands, and one extended foot. Even though only a
minimal amount of skin is exposed, her heavy clothing does not necessarily entail a virginal or
innocent demeanor. The express intent of her dancing is unclear. The heavy fabric which clings
to her hips and sides could convey seduction. Or rather, a bashful disposition which hides under
many layers and is only embolden to entice through motion. The face of the Dancer does not
provide any further clarification. Her entire face is masked, leaving only two half closed eyes
visible. Perhaps, the Dancer is not performing for a specific audience or person, but rather for the
joy and pleasure of creative expression. Whatever the case, the Dancer is available to adopt many
personas because her figure is

Leadership During Hurrican Katrina
Hurricane Katrina was the storm of the century. Hurricane Sandy earned the nickname Super
storm Sandy. If anyone had any doubts as to what Mother Nature is capable of, these storms are
perfect examples of the fury she can dish out here on planet Earth. The sheer amount of energy
those storms had is almost incomprehensible. Katrina had sustained winds of 174 mph and wave
heights of over 40 feet in some places. (Knabb) Sandy had winds of 115 mph and dumped over 10
inches of rain (Blake). By all measures, they were both extremely powerful weather systems
capable of taking lives.
While Super storm Sandy directly killed 148 people, Hurricane Katrina killed 1,200 (United
States). The main difference being who the leaders were. The states were the clear leaders
during Hurricane Sandy as they should have been. They knew what they needed and they were
willing to articulate those needs at the federal level. The federal government has never been
good at seeing to the day to day needs of everyday citizens. It was not set up to do so. That role
has always been delegated to the states. For some reason during Katrina state and local
authorities decided it was the other way around and they suffered for it. Katrina was not only a
perfect storm in nature, it was also a perfect storm on all levels of government. During the crisis of
hurricane Katrina there was not a clear chain of command. State and local Leaders were looking
toward the federal government for leadership in the relief

Birth order and personality traits
Birth order and personality traits
Birth order and personality traits are very negotiable because the past and present life situation
have a big role in how an individual will turn out, but if it s an average Joe family then I wouldn t
be surprised if they were like what has been studied and concluded for obvious reasons. All of the
traits one can have are unlimited depending on the type of parents, environment, and there intelect.
These things can either be good or bad, still depending on the person and their thought process.
I am logical and an evaluater (but not always choosing the logical solution even if there is a better
way) which makes it easy to blend in with my surroundings and just roll with it ( words from Birth

So making the peace is all right with me.
Suppresion of feelings was a big issue in the past because I would just bottle it up and explode,
just completely freak out. It was intense, but like I said your traits really depend on the situation
because I no longer have that problem. Since I no longer supress everything I can just chill and
stay calm, care free, and roll with it
My agreements with the list of personality traits was moderatly accurate but still missing vital
traits that I am excelled in. So this is my dissagrees and whatever else may be in here.
I am Super creative with a capital s because I have a huge list of creative things I do and I will list

the rest with pure imagination. I can write pretty well, for example, what I m doing now is pretty

The Union And The European Union
The European Union is an entity that is seen nowhere else in the world. It is not a government, it is
not an international organization, and it is not just an association of states. The European Union
members, instead, have decided to turnover part of their sovereignty to the Union so that many
decisions can be made at the institutions leadership level. This partnership includes 28 diverse
democracies built together on the basis of complex treaties. Although the goals of this organization
were to assist with expanding economic prosperity, peace and stability throughout its member
states, the European Unionhas been faced with ever pressing concerns in the recent past that are
very serious and may in fact become fatal to the continued coalescing between members. These
problems can be categorized into three categories; economic, social, and political.
Economically, the last 6 or so years have been nothing short of dismal for the European Union and
its members. Due to the diversity among its members own national economic policies, the
European Union s economic configuration and its single currency were shown to be somewhat
incoherent. The European Union s gross domestic product only grew a measly one percent in 2013,
compared to the United States 2.2 percent growth. In December 2014, unemployment among
member nations of the European Union hovered around 11.4 percent, while the United States
unemployment rate held at around 5.6 percent. Even though in the U.S. we are ever

Bangladesh with common borders. The land border with India extended over 4144 kilometers.
Thus, in terms of peace along with the extensive border and overall national security, the quality
of relation with India is very crucial for Bangladesh. The break up at Pakistan and emergence of
Bangladesh as an independent state in 1971 was in the strategic interest of India .The two nation

This uneven relationship appears to be due largely to the perception of one country against the
other about each other s role and attitudes towards bilateral and regional issues. This is not unusual
because neighboring countries around the world maintain in general a kind of See saw relationship
with each others. Indo Bangladesh Friendship Treaty: Boon of bilateral relations: When we discuss
about the bilateral relationship between India and Bangladesh, it is necessary for us to discuss and
better understand the 1972 s Friendship Treaty between Bangladesh and India. It is considered the
boon of bilateral relation between these two countries. In 1972 on 19th March this India
Bangladesh friendship Treaty signed for a term of 25 years. This sign was the formal aspect of

is important to quote below: Inspired by common ideas of peace, secularism, democracy, socialism
and nationalism, having struggled together for the retaliations of these ideas and cemented ties of
friendship through blood and sacrifices which led to the triumphant emergence of a free, sovereign

In My Last Duchess, destructive Love is shown to be a forceful feeling in My Last Duchess .
The Duke s adoration for the Duchess was possessive as he demonstrated dissatisfaction when
she grinned at other men or when her looks went all over the place . Her excellence and
consideration was implied for himself just, and when she turned out to be excessively of an
irritation he offered orders to stop her forever. He enabled a representation of her to be painted in

Theory of Multiple Intelligences
Theory of multiple intelligences The theory of multiple intelligences was proposed by Howard
Gardner in 1983 as a model of intelligence that differentiates intelligence into various specific
(primarily sensory) modalities[disambiguation needed], rather than seeing it as dominated by a
single general ability. Gardner argues that there is a wide range of cognitive abilities, and that
there are only very weak correlations among them. For example, the theory predicts that a child
who learns to multiply easily is not necessarily generally more intelligent than a child who has
more difficulty on this task. The child who takes more time to master simple multiplication 1) may
best learn to multiply through a different approach, 2) may excel in a... Show more content on

Gardner elaborates to say that this intelligence also includes a sense of timing, a clear sense of the
goal of a physical action, along with the ability to train responses so they become like reflexes. In
theory, people who have bodily kinesthetic intelligence should learn better by involving muscular
movement (e.g. getting up and moving around into the learning experience), and are generally good
at physical activities such as sports or dance. They may enjoy acting or performing, and in general
they are good at building and making things. They often learn best by doing something physically,
rather than by reading or hearing about it. Those with strong bodily kinesthetic intelligence seem to
use what might be termed muscle memory , drawing on it to supplement or in extreme cases even
substitute for other skills such as verbal memory. Careers that suit those with this intelligence
include: athletes, pilots, dancers, musicians, actors, surgeons, builders, police officers, and soldiers.
Although these careers can be duplicated through virtual simulation, they will not produce the
actual physical learning that is needed in this intelligence.[8]

Pre bid meetings can be held after the RFP s are issued and prior to the bid due date. Pre bid

Argumentative Essay About Monsters
Monsters. They appear in nightmares, under beds, and in the distance lurking around. This is how
the world perceives monsters, but according to Webster dictionary it s a powerful person or thing
that cannot be controlled and that causes many problems. There are constant encounters with them
every day because they make up who someone is. They re everywhere, in plain sight and other
times disguised, sometimes it s easier to see some more than others. Every monster has malicious
ways even if it s not intentional, it s humanreaction, from little behaviors to extreme ones.
Some might feel like monsters were put here to destroy and tear humanity down, and that they ve
been that way since the beginning of their known creation. However, this is not true. To give a

The Holocaust was the genocide and the cause of death for about 6 million Jews during World

The Hitler Youth was founded in 1926. It was for children ages 10 18. They were taught to hate
Jews and to avoid any contact with them. The goal of girls in the Hitler Youth was to prepare
women for motherhood and teach them how to raise children. They had to be able to run 60
meters in 14 seconds, throw a ball 12 meters, complete a 2 hour march, swim 100 meters and
know how to make a bed. The goal for boys in the Hitler Youth was to prepare them for military
service. Some activities included marching, bayonet drill, grenade throwing, trench digging, map
reading, gas defense, use of dugouts, how to get under barbed wire and pistol shooting. They were
taught to kill without remorse. In one activity, they were told to bring in their favorite pet and then
they were forced to kill it.

EFFECT OF EXERCISE TRAINING AND NUTRITION THERAPY ON FUNCTION, FATIGUE,
AND PAIN IN WOMEN WITH FIBROMYALGIA
Research Question: What is the effect of resistance/aerobic training and nutrition therapy on
function, fatigue, and pain in women with FM?
Abstract Background and Significance: Fibromyalgia (FM) symptoms such as pain and fatigue can
have a severe impact on function and quality of life. The exact etiology of FM is unknown,
consequently there is no single best treatment. Studies have shown that exercise plays a role in
modulating adverse symptoms of FM. Aerobic exercise has clearly been shown to improve
symptoms, but strength training still needs further study. Theories have also suggested that
nutrition may be linked to FM; whether it is a cause or effect is still unknown. This study will
examine the effects of exercise training and nutrition therapy on function, fatigue, and pain in
women with FM. Subjects and Methods: Subjects will include 594 women diagnosed with FM.
There will be 4 groups: an exercise group, a nutrition therapy group, an exercise and nutrition
therapy group, and a control group who will receives information on FM. The intervention will
last 14 weeks. Weeks 1 7 will be a buildup period and weeks 8 14 will be a period where subjects
exercise for the recommended dose based on the American College of Sports Medicine guidelines.
Follow up measurement will be performed at 6 months. The fibromyalgia impact questionnaire

Essay On The Color Purple
The Color Purple written by Alice Walker is based on a society that is rather segregated when it
comes to their differences. Due to this segregation, the perspective of one group viewing another
may be rather skewed, causing them to be stereotyped into certain social structures. The novel is
written in first person point of view, meaning that the reader gets one particular character s
version of the story. Due to this, the reader is introduced to the story through a perspective that
does not fully understand different social groups aside from her own in society as well as
different societies as a mass. One of the most prominent examples of social groups being
represented in a certain way relates to the roles of women in society. Throughout... Show more

This includes the stereotypical white women in church that believe they are better than those
around them and are judgemental of those who aren t like them. However, there are also
characters such as Shug and Celie that believe in a different type of god. While the white
women most likely believe in god, the man, Shug and Celie end up believing in god, the force.
Christians are typically portrayed as individuals similar to the white women, however the novel
tends to break that barrier when Shug explains her beliefs to Celie through the quote Here s the
thing, say Shug. The thing I believe. God is inside you and inside everybody else. You come into
the world with God. But only them that search for it inside find it. And sometimes it just manifest
itself even if you not looking, or don t know what you looking for. (Walker 196) This religious
strength shows in Celie immediately, as she feels freer that she s not constantly being watched
over by a man s presence. This, blatant contrast is meant to convey the message that Christian
beliefs are not the same for everyone, and believing in god does not mean you are set to that certain

A Martian Sends A Postcard Home By Craig Raine
Craig Raine s self conscious poem, A Martian Sends A Postcard Home, is rich in pensive and
bright metaphors expressed innocently through unconventional eyes. This informal, free verse of
syllabic meter poem beautifully showcases Raine s ability to give us, the reader, an opportunity to
unshackle our ridged perspectives on the world around us.
The poem is tangled and booby trapped in unusual symbolism, creating riddles for the reader. The
first step in unravelling the mysteries surrounding all the descriptions is understand the intended

Hope for peace is difficult to have and even more difficult to maintain. This is especially true when
throughout history we have been taught that war, domination, and destruction are the only ways to
deal with conflict. The Histories by Herodotus and The Peloponnesian Warby Thucydides are
regarded as two of the greatest histories of all time and these stories give the impression that
violence and war are inevitable and even desirable. Our history is full of stories and influences
like these, yet ever since the beginning of war; there has been a cry for peace. With the fighters of

In order to achieve empowerment to act for peace, one needs to know on what to act and be
passionate about the issues. An article in the Left Business Observer stated that many people
don t want to know what goes on in the world. They re aware on some level that their
government does terrible things, but they d rather not hear about it. It goes on to say that it is
not even apathy, but an active desire not to know. I agree with the article, but I also see a huge
possibility for change. My father is a perfect example of why I have hope for all those who are
apathetic. My father grew up in a conservative household, is registered as a republican, and he
had no reason to stretch his comfortable life as a white, wealthy, American male. When his father
died, he found a new passion for education and making it affordable to all people, which was a
primary concern for his father. He acts to the extent that he can, and that is exactly enough. People

Appropriative Identities in Youth Culture
In Mary Bucholtz book White Kids, she discusses the stature of whiteness in the United States as
hegemonic, unmarked, and culturally absent, making it situational and unstable. Bucholtz suggests
that to counteract that, the students she studied in her field work adopted many different identities
and identifiers, such as levels of popularity and racial backgrounds, the use of language, and the
physical styles with one chooses to present.
One identifying marker the students use is slang. Linguists define slang as a youth dominated,
rapidly changing lexicon associated with casual social contexts, but a nonlinguistic view frames
slang as an illegitimate linguistic variety. The latter definition is inaccurate because these varieties
have strict grammatical rules and are only illegitimate to the uneducated eye. Furthermore, calling
slang illegitimate is disrespectful because it disregards the users of such language as inferior,
therefore rendering them powerless. This disrespect is often aimed at the African American
community, whose usage of AAVE is highly stigmatized. Slang, as a whole, is a shared youth
identity in that everyone regardless of race or social status uses it; however, much of slang is
available only to a certain group of people. Slang can be involved in processes of adequation or
distinction, making its usage contentious or socially risky depending on what person used

their wonder stays there and does not leave. There are so many wonders of this world to be had
and they are holding it in their small hands, and they are still doing it because from where they
are standing all they see is forward, and they want to reach the love that they wonder about. They
are gazing at stars, and stars are symbolic for paths leading to a special destination. The North
Star led the three kings to baby Jesus. The stars that the children are looking at will bring them

The Pros And Cons Of Gun Control In America
In recent years, violence has affected society immensely; in the Las Vegas community specifically,
bullying, and crimes involving deadly weapons have been detrimental to the hearts of families.
As of now, the controversial debate of gun control is sweeping the nation. As defined by the
constitution, the second amendment states that citizens have a right to bear arms. One side
believes there is no need for guns, whereas the other believes guns are necessary for self defense.
In Las Vegas, there are many people that believe in the amendment. Nevada has some of the least
restrictive gun laws in the country. The state does not require firearm owners to have licenses,
register their weapons, nor restrict the amount of weapons one may own. Along with that, the
state does not require sellers to do a background check before selling ammunition. This may be a
contributing factor to the mass shooting that occurred in Las Vegas on October 1st. According
to Chris Perez from the New York Post, the gunman unloaded approximately 900 bullets into a
crowd, with multiple assault rifles. Unfortunately, 58 people were killed and hundreds were
injured. With that being said, it is hard not to agree with people that want to ban guns, but on the
contrary, if guns were banned, then criminals would be left unmatched. If legislature made guns
illegal, then only law abiding citizens would follow the law, whereas criminals would disregard
the law, and continue to purchase and use guns illegally. According to the Las Vegas Review
Journal, approximately 80% of crimes in Las Vegas involved weapons; which is a 61% increase
from last June. Statistics have also shown that the homicide rate in las Vegas has increased by
133% from last year; as a response, Metro police has increased the number of officers in the street.
The increase of violence in the city may stem from media and entertainment. According to
psychologist Leonard Eron of the University of Illinois, children who watched significant amounts
of TV violence were consistently more likely to commit violent crimes, or engage in child or
spouse abuse in the future. The violence in the mass shooting has not only affected the lives of
innocent people, but it has also affected the politics

Premarital Sex and CatholicismВґs View on It
Premarital sex is something that has been around as long as humans have been around.
According to a USA Today article, a study finds that about ninety five percent of Americans have
had premarital sex. With the Catholic population in American being about twenty five percent, it
is safe to assume that most Catholics are not following the teachings of the Church to a tee. It is
easy to say that it is the current generations that are acting more promiscuous because they are
getting married later in life but the study was conducted including people that were born as far
back as the 1940s. With this premarital sex it seems as though even those who believe they are
good Catholics are blatantly ignoring the rules and teachings of the Church. For Catholic
Christians, we must analyze our views according to culture and how the Church can capitalize on
the opportunity. Catholics also must recognize the transformation of culture in relation to religion
and, finally, respond to the issue. In the Bible there is no specific prohibition of premarital sex. It
does however have many references to sexual immorality. In Thessalonians 4:3 5 it states that It is
God s will that you should be sanctified: that you should avoid sexual immorality; that each of you
should learn to control your own body in a way that is holy and honorable, not in passionate lust
like the pagans, who do not know God. In 1 Corinthians 6:18 20 it states that Flee from sexual
immorality. All other sins

They are calling for an evaluation of policies which continue to increase incarceration and
improvement of criminal justice as this population reaches historical high level in America. There
are over 2 million individuals housed in national jails or prisons and nearly 5 million individuals
on parole or probation. United States of America leads the world in punishment and incarceration,
and the cost of the correctional system now surpasses $60billion annually. The rise in the costs and
size of correctional facilities occurs after nearly two decades of tough reforms on crime. These
tough on crime reforms got the support of both Republican and Democratic administrators in
response to the increasing crimes rates experienced since 1970s. Ironically, the unabated
correctional costs and financial crises have put strains on health, education and human services

money, they are becoming less effective in addressing crime rates.
The criminal justice system recognizes the importance of restorative justice practice and programs

Culture In African American Culture
Music is a creative art form that allows the artist to construct something that expresses a purpose. It
evolves over time and changes as the world changes, taking on many different motivations behind
the melody and lyrics. In today s society, anger, oppression, racism, and negative opinions rule the
media and popular culture. I believe that African Americans need to show their self worth and not
let white peoplehold them back. With the music in white culture often mocking African American
culture and portraying negative stereotypes, African Americans have to find ways to gain respect.
In acknowledgement of the negative portrayal of their culture, African Americans respond by
creating songs and videos that express their pride in their culture and heritage, react to white
oppression, and communicate their independence.
Kanye West s Blood on the Leaves is a powerful hip hop song that addresses modern day
struggles such as drugs, sex, and poverty. Throughout the song, the lyrics of Strange Fruits by
Billie Holiday blare from the background, stating strange fruit swinging from the poplar trees...

creates a dichotomy between the days of lynching and black oppression and the current struggles
that face African Americans. The contrast between the different types of oppression draws attention
to the current issues of modern day culture. African Americans in today s society are still

Peripheral Vascular Disease
Background
Peripheral vascular disease is a disease that affects the peripheral circulatory system. PVD is
also referred to as peripheral arterial disease. PVD includes both the veins and the arteries. In
PVD there is a problem with blood flow due to a narrowing of blood vessels which is occurring
from a different pathology. The most common cause of PVD is atherosclerosis. Patients with PVD
can range from asymptomatic to severe and require amputations (Giorgi 2015).
Etiology
Peripheral vascular disease is divided into subcategories of functional and organic. Functional PVD
does not involve physical problems in the blood vessels. It causes incidental or short term
symptoms. These are usually spasms that occur erratically. Organic PVD involves changes in
blood vessel structure. This type of PVD causes inflammation, tissue damage, and blockages
(Giorgi 2015). The number one leading cause of peripheral vascular disease is atherosclerosis. This
is a gradual process in which a fatty material builds up inside the arteries (emedicinehealth 2015).
Other contributing factors to PVD include smoking, inactivity, diabetes, obesity, high blood
cholesterol, hypertension, emboli from another location, inflammation of blood vessels, injury to
blood vessels, and stress. (Giorgi 2015)

Essay on Curling and Team
Curling is a precision team sport similar to bowls or bocce, played on a rectangular sheet of
prepared ice by two teams of four players each, using heavy polished granite stones which players
slide down the ice towards a target area called the house. Points are scored for the number of stones
that a team has closer to the centre of the target than the closest of the other team s stones.
The game is thought to have been invented in late medieval Scotland, with the first written
reference to a contest using stones on ice coming from the records of Paisley Abbey, Renfrew, in
February 1541.

In general the sweepers are responsible for instructing the skip in regards to the weight, or speed of
the rock, and the skip and the thrower instruct regarding aim. Teams confer between throws to
determine where they will attempt to place the next rock.
The process of throwing a rock is known as the delivery. While not mandatory, most curlers
deliver the rock from sliding out from the hack. When sliding out, one must start with one shoe
(the one with the non slippery sole) against one of the hacks . For a right handed curler, this means
starting from the left hack, and vice versa for a left handed curler.
When delivering the rock, it is important to remember that the momentum behind how much
weight is applied to the rock depends on how much leg drive the delivery has. It is usually not
wise to push the rock with the arm, unless absolutely necessary. When in the hack, one must
crouch down with the body lined up and shoulders square with the skip s broom at the other end.
While in the hack, one may hold a broom out for balance. Different curlers hold their broom out
in many different fashions. The broom is held in the hand opposite from the rock, and should be
positioned so that the non sweeping side of the broom is against the ice. This prevents drag which
would be caused by the soft head of the broom dragging against the ice.
Before any delivery, it is important to

Comparing My Sister s Marriage And The Five-Forty-Eight
Two Alpha Males Imagine two alpha males dominant and secure in the professional jungle, yet
in their personal lives vulnerable and less dominant. Such are the stories of Dr. Landis in My
Sister s Marriage by Cynthia Marshall Rich and Blake in The Five Forty Eight by John Cheever.
These two alpha males have similarities and differences, in the way they view women as the
weaker vessels, the way people react to them and how both are changed forever by their own
personal choices. Their similarities and differences looking at women as the weaker vessels. Dr.
Landis does this by taking care of his daughters the best way he can, however he is overly
protective, invasive, and manipulative. Father thinks that his daughters cannot make up their own...

Dr. Landis is changed forever when his favorite daughter, Olive, leaves and gets married to the
salesman, the type of person whom father so dislikes. After a year has passed, father is in
depression and it is affecting him physically. He has lost a lot of weight because how sharp his
cheek bones look on his face. Sarah Ann tells us how her father s condition is: He stood in the
doorway in his long bathrobe. He had been in bed and his hair was slightly awry from the
pillows and his face was a little pale. I have taken good care of him and he still looks young not
more than forty but his cheekbones worry me. They are sharp and white. (Rich 211 212)
Readers do not learn of the changes in Blake s life, only that he warily got up and dusted himself
off (Cheever 382). This experience with such a sick girl having a gun on him threatening his life,
after this happens, we can only assume that his choices of women to sleep with and fool around
with will change. Blake will probably end up seeing prostitutes for his carnal needs. Then he won t
have to deal with another psycho

Chapter 12
Chapter Ten
Locked Away Long Ago
Two minutes later, we were wedged into a lumpy sofa in Link s living room. The room looked
more like a page out of an antique furniture magazine. Overstuffed chaises and chairs were
crowded around oak tables, stacked with well worn tattered tales. There was a clock hanging over
a roaring fire, boxes of knickknacks stacked on shelves, and several faded family photos lying next
to a meerschaum pipe on a carved nesting table.
She s right, you know, Link said, sitting opposite us in a worn out orange recliner. He smiled, and
his eyes disappeared in the creases. Then again, she s always right.
Okay, I said. It s better than being turned into a toad.
Then it s time you consulted the Mage, Link said. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I tripped over myself trying to get to the trapdoor, but it slammed shut.
Inside my head, I heard a voice, sliding into one ear and twirling around my brain: I am the spirit of
Merlin, speaker of the prophecies, and possessor of the Holy Grail. Come close to the seer, and ask.
I wanted to say, sorry, wrong door, I was just looking for the restroom. But I forced myself to take a
deep breath.
The Mage wasn t alive. He was some kind of gruesome receptacle for something else, the power
that was now swirling around me in the green mist. But its presence didn t feel evil, like wicked
Frey or the witches. It felt more ancient, powerful, and definitely not human.
I got up the nerve to ask, Where can I find the key?
The mist swirled more thickly, collecting right in front of me and around the table covered in
magic tricks. Suddenly a man in a gray suit was sitting at the table pulling a rabbit out of a hat. His
face became clearer. It was Simon.
I knew this act couldn t be real. It was a trick, made out of mist. Simon turned toward me and
spoke in the rasping voice of the Mage: The king and queen are in the Black Forest. They were
locked away in the castle dungeon long ago. Some have tried to rescue them, but they re guarded
by black birds, ogres, witches, and humpbacked goblins.
I gulped, and my stomach tied itself into a hangman s noose. So . . .
So yes that s horrible, Simon groaned. But you shall follow the path to the goblin s castle

Reflection Paper On Law Of Nature
Reflection paper questions Locke
There is a need to understand the law of nature because law of nature is a perfect law of equality,
peace, no superiority of one person over another and absolute freedom for everyone. Nature
provides human beings with a law by which everyone is equal, everyone got equal freedom,
equal rights, and no one can dominate other by using the claims of jurisdiction or autonomy. It is
very important to understand the law of nature because it provides a perfect example of how a
peaceful and orderly world should. In a peaceful and orderly world, there is no violation of law, if
someone breaks the law he/she will be punished equally and in this way, every human being will
enjoy maximized freedom.
In the law of nature there is only one supreme power who is controlling nature and every living
thing on nature will follow the set rules of harmony, peace and cooperation. They all shouldstay
in the natural law to progress and in that way, not only nature will be preserved but human
beings can also live in harmony. The concept is important because political power is a concept
that is invented to run the states and communities in orderly manner and to provide freedom,
equality and justice to everyone. A perfect political power will be that power that ensures law of
nature is to be followed in any case and thus to understand political power, one must learn the
basics of law of nature. All people are equal in the state of nature because there is only one
supreme being and all human beings are equal with equal rights to prosper and live. There are no
issues of jurisdiction or supremacy of one person over another because law of nature has provided
every human being with equal opportunities.
According to Locke the main reason we cannot harm each other is that because all human beings
are created equals thus no one is superior as compare to other and if we will harm another equal
being we are challenging the authority of sovereign creator who gave freedom to everyone but we
are enjoying our freedom but snatching others. He gave the example of like we use animals,
because human beings use animals against their will, they use them for money and profits and do
not care about their rights or freedom

One day after school, Jessica and her friends went on their Pegasus to Cloud City.
Cloud City was a flying magical city that was entirely made out of clouds and floated around the

Jessica had never visited Cloud City, so she was very excited to go to it and see if the stories were
as wonderful as she d heard. She couldn t wait to feel what it was like to walk on soft clouds, to
see colorful buildings made out of ice crystals and fluffy clouds that changed colors with the sun s

The tiny rain drops from the earlier storm and the glass crystals reflected the light, creating a

As the last rays of the sun faded, music started to play and the creatures started to dance. The

Rhetorical Analysis Of Harriet Ann Jacobs By Harriet Jacobs
Harriet Ann Jacobs is a girl who is locked away, away in a place that only Dr. Flint knows. She is
a struggling girl who wants to be free and go out and be free, although, she cannot. She speaks
about how much she dislikes where she is living and she wishes she could be somewhere else,
although, she has seen worse things happen outside. As she talks about her current living status
and her memories, she incorporates or talks about them very well. In this passage or section, she
uses rhetorical strategies to add a different feel and perception of her life. She also speaks about
why sometimes it is worth being stuck or cramped in a tiny place, due to some of the horrors she
has witnessed or seen from the outside world. In paragraph three, Jacobs uses personification many
times to describe how the winter and autumn felt, and how they affected her. For example, she says
that autumn whirls through... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
From the beginning of the whole excerpt, she starts off with a hateful or dissatisfied tone about
always being locked away. As it progresses, until paragraph four, her tone and perception
changes. For example, in paragraph four, her tone was more understanding and calmer, she is also
is speaking about why she kind of appreciates being locked away because it keeps her from the
other nightmarish things she sees outside through the small hole she found. This shows the
audience that the little girl, in a way, is mature and has experienced a lot. The audience perceives
her tone in the beginning, as disdain, dissatisfaction, or a hateful tone to show her unhappiness with
her situation, to show that she really wants to travel outside and view the world freely, although,
her change in tone shows that she sometimes appreciates being able to only stay in one place
because she is hidden or away from the cruel things that happen outside. Which allows the audience
to understand and feel the way she is

How To Build A Houseboat
If I lived on Mr. Plumbean s street, I would rent a backhoe and shovel all the dirt out of the
property until I had formed a one hundred foot by one hundred foot, thirty six foot deep, square
hole that took up the entire piece of land on which the house had previously sat. Now you may
be asking yourself, This guy is a nut. What does he expect to do with a one hundred by one
hundred foot hole in the ground? and I have that covered, just keep reading. So after I had a 100
x100 x36 square hole in my property, I would bring in tank after tank of water until I had brought in
360,000 cubic feet of water to fill the hole. Now I have a semi large pond or a small lake, what do I
still intend to do with that?
I plan on building a 4900 square foot (70 by 70), three story houseboat that takes up 49% of the
lake/pond. The other 51% (5100 square feet) would be dedicated to swimming and other
recreational pastimes (at the bottom of the page is a bird s eye view of the property). This sounds

How Milling Is A Vital Process For Minimizing The Machined...
Milling is a vital process used in the industry to make and assembling the components. The
extensive and expensive experimental work is necessary to determine the optimal of machining
process parameters for obtaining the desired machined quality. In this regard, the present work is
focused on the relationship between the input process parameters and machined surface integrity
for minimizing the machined damage. Moreover, the paper presents the comparative analysis and
performance of two different mill tools such as a specially designed carbide tipped tool and a solid
carbide tool. Subsequently, comparing the evaluation of two tools was illustrated by plotting origin
graphs. Finally, experimental results were thoroughly analyzed by Scanning electron microscope
(SEM) to investigate the cutting characteristics of machined laminates.
Keywords: compression moulding technique, cutting process parameters, End milling tools, GFRP
composite laminates, SEM.
Introduction
FRP composites having superior material properties when compared with metals, improved
corrosion resistance, fatigue resistance, less weight to strength ratio and high fracture toughness.
Hence GFRP composites frequently used in several applications like sports goods, racing car bodies
and aerospace components [1]. Often composite products manufactured by near net shapes. The
components made by secondary machining processes are involving to get good dimensional
accuracy and geometrical shapes done by turning, drilling

Hannibal never lose face and are seemingly in control, not many things can get him off guard. By
the looks of it, he does not have many close relations. He grows fond of Abigail, constantly talks
about Will as his friend and Belinda Du Maurier is one of the few he talks with a little deeper,
but she does not known everything. Alana Bloom and Hannibal Lecter engages in a sexual
relationship, where Hannibal is like a snake whispering in Alana s ear. Hannibal shows
psychopathic tendencies, but does not fit the term straight on. One of the things that drives the
series forward is Hannibal s curiosity; it is because of it that he does many of the things that
keeps the series going. One way to see the real Hannibal is the symbolic use of the Wendigo, a
mythical shape shifting man eater. The Wendigo shows up in Will s dreams and hallucinations,
carrying some of Hannibal s outer characteristics. Because of the Wendigo, spectators can harvest a
greater understanding of Hannibal s nature. He can go from sophisticated man to serial killer in
matter of seconds, certainly making him a shape shifter of some

The Tort And The Civil Wrong
The term tort refers to a civil wrong. The phase tort is Norman French and means wrong. In
Anglo Saxon times tort was established with punishments, for example individuals from clans
had to pay for the civil wrong they executed. During the Norman Conquest there was no contrast
between civil wrongs or general crimes carried out. After the Norman Conquest kings and courts
were very influential and punishments would be decided by them. If any fines of punishment
were held the money would go to the king or the relevant court. After this period any civil wrong
that was executed was either known as a trespass or a tort. Felonies were known as major acts
against the law. Writs were legal written orders and by the thirteenth century became essential for
the guidelines of retribution. There are many elements within tort; the main aspect is what act and
what damage has been committed and not the reason why an individual committed an act. The
theory of tort has developed and evolved during the years. The law today ensures victims of tort
with remedies. Tort can be dealt with in civil courts, county courts or High courts. It depends
mainly on the level of seriousness of a case.
Within tort there is the area of negligence which has many different elements. It can analyse the
state of mind of an individual committing a crime aswell as the harm caused which could include
harm done unintentionally. The approach of tort negligence is related to an individual being
harmed through an act of

Poetry Analysis Of Natasha Trethewey s Native Guard
Natasha Trethewey is the southern born daughter of an African American mother and white father
at a time when such relations were illegal. Her parents were married in Canada and lived for a
time in California, but the pull of the south brought them home. Yet, racism reared its ugly head
and the couple divorced, but not before molding a daughter who would later go on to be named
Poet Laureate of the United States. Today, Trethewey is a professor of creative writing at Emory
University. Her poetrycollection Native Guard which speaks of the history of life in the south won
the Pulitzer Prizefor poetry in 2007 and is indeed a powerful collection.
Native Guard is Trethewey s third book of poetry; first published in 2006, it won the Pulitzer for
poetry in 2007. The book s about the history of the South, of race and racism, of war and peace.
The eponymous Native Guard, founded in 1862, was the first African American regiment in the
Union Army. One job assigned to this unit was guarding the prison of war camp at Fort
Massachusetts on Ship Island, Mississippi. The crown sonnet sequence of ten sonnets that makes
up Native Guard tells the history of the guard from 1862 1865. Each poem is titled with a date,
and begins with a revision of the line that ended the sonnet preceding it. The first poem in the
sequence begins with the end of the last poem, so it is a crown of connected sonnets. Her
revisions of lines are intense, clever and beautiful. For example, here is the ending of

Anabolic Steroid Use in Sports Summary
Anabolic Steroid use in Sports The competitive drive to win at all cost is fierce among athletes.
Winning at all cost often includes using one of many performance enhancing drugs such as anabolic
steroids. Many athletes use performance enhancing drugs, like steroids, to achieve higher goals and
set higher records than other drug free successful athletes. Although athletes are performing at
higher levels when using such drugs, what is the cost? Finally anabolic steroids should remain
banned from sports because their use results in many harmful side effects; because their use violates
sports regulations, and because their use can cause death. Anabolic steroids should remain banned
from sports because of the many harmful... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Another reason is the potential side effect caused by the use of anabolic steroids. Since the use
of steroids has become a trend among athletes, the number of deaths among them has risen. A lot
of these deaths are due to suicides and violent behavior as a result of the effect of these anabolic
androgenic steroids on mood. A number of recent, well publicized deaths of American football
players have drawn attention to the potential dangers of sports supplements and the raised
important public health concerns about the unrestricted availability of these products that are
exempt from U. S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) regulation (Haller, 2002). Performance
enhancing drugs are not only dangerous and damaging; they are potentially deadly. Between
1985 and 1995, at least 121 US athletes collapsed and died during or directly after a training
session or game; most often because they had hypertrophic cardiomyopathy or heart
malformations (Maron, 1996). Most of the athletes that have collapsed and died during or directly
after training session or game tested positive for some type of performance enhancing drug. From
case reports, the incidence of life threatening effects appears to be low, but serious adverse effects
may be under recognized or under reported. Data from animal studies seem to support this
possibility. One study found that exposing male

  • 3. The Science Of Social Psychology If you put good apples into a bad situation, you ll get bad apples , said Philip G. Zimbardo, a prominent researcher of the field of social psychology. What is social psychology, you might ask? In short, it represents and defines an individual s actions when the said individual is placed in a social situation. It also defines how you choose to act, often subconsciously, in the face of others. The science of social psychology is a youthful one, it s existence barely a century old. However, it is with it s existence that we are able to decipher topics such as conformity, independence, and identity on a logical basis. We use it, to a degree, to study how every group has an impact on a singular entity, as well as how those impacts end up... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... His theories were tested in his famous line test experiments, where a participant, placed last in a row of other participants (actors) were to choose the correct corresponding line for a set of lines. However, all the actors were instructed to answer incorrectly, leading the participants to conform, on average, about one third (32%) (Asch 1 70) of the time in the complete trials. In addition, the varying cases monitored had shown that 75% of the participants had conformed at least once (McLeod) during the duration of their tests. The majority of the subjects felt that their judgement was clouded, or, more surprisingly, knew that the group was incorrect yet went with the flow to avoid conflict. The real world impacts of this trial are massive: By placing individuals in groups, there bears the risk of conformity overtaking the free will of the group through the want of the individual to fit in, known as normative influence, or the clouding of their judgement through believing that the group has the better answer, known as informational influence. This can have massive repercussions in group centric fields such as politics, or affect the opinions of the members of a group during discussions. In addition, the urge to fit in , often experienced by many teenagers, is attributed to the same effect. Conformity is a powerful force, capable of weakening the strongest ... • 5. College Is Not Good Memories Essay When I think back to when I was in college, nothing but good memories comes to mind. College was by far the best time of my life. If I could sum it up, college would be the best four year party that I will ever attend. I remember it like it was yesterday; going to class, playing football and pretty much being a kid, but this time mom and dad wasn t around to tell you your bedtime. Even though college was a blast, the effects of college played a huge role in molding me to the young man I am today. By choosing to go to college and graduate, I was able to do something nobody in my family has ever done before, and that was play a collegiate sport. I was also able to walk away with a Bachelors of Science Degree in Civil Engineering Technology. But every good story must come to an end, but in this case, every great four year party must come to an end. When that party ended, I also was left with a fat bill called student loans. If I knew as an 18 year old kid what debt I would be getting myself into, things might have been a little different. The effect of me going to college brings me to my first love, football. I played the game of football since I was 4th grade. It never dawned on me that one day it would take me to college. I played four years as a strong safety for the Colorado University Pueblo Thunderwolves, three of them as a starter. As an individual I was able to garner various all conference and all regional awards. But all of that doesn t even come close ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Because the weight of these walls are so strong, in order to reduce both weight and material almost all of the brick walls were built with inclined faces (Hamlin 33). William insisted upon incorporating these Egyptian walls to symbolize the strength of the Hearst family and the power their ambitions had on the community (Hamlin 34). Not only did Julia Morgan choose to incorporate Egyptian design because of the strength it gave to the structures, but also because of the impact it had within artwork. These works of art are considered the oldest pieces in the collection, dating back from the New Kingdom (Hamlin 42). The New Kingdom is the period in ancient Egyptian history between the sixteenth century BC and the eleventh... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Julia Morgan received her inspiration for the designs seen in Hearst Castle from Hearst s extensive collection of treasures found throughout the world, and from her own travels as an architect. As these two came together, they created an eclectic and unique mix of all of these styles into one estate in which Morgan was able to incorporate many European, African, Asian, and other architectural designs into the different features of Hearst Castle (Gondo 54). Throughout his life, Hearst dreamed of building a dwelling similar to those he had seen on his European tour as a boy (Coffman 12). His dream was finally fulfilled when he saw how the finished product had impacted his family and the community. After William Hearst s death in 1951, Hearst Castle was preserved by his family as not only a home, but a national landmark, where people from all over the world came to witness its splendidness. The construction of Hearst Castle is a significant period of time, in which the new idea of combining cultures within design is put to the test. The popularity of this idea grows nationwide, allowing an era of experimentation in architecture to provoke (The 72). Following this era, came the arise of new forms of design, including modern and bauhaus. Not only is a new age of design abided out of the construction of Hearst Castle, but a new generation of architects. These architects are inspired by Julia Morgan s fearlessness, perseverance, and willingness to take risks in her career. She portrays all these characteristics when she attempts to incorporate a variety of contrasting cultures into a massive estate and succeeds. • 10. Leadership During Hurrican Katrina Hurricane Katrina was the storm of the century. Hurricane Sandy earned the nickname Super storm Sandy. If anyone had any doubts as to what Mother Nature is capable of, these storms are perfect examples of the fury she can dish out here on planet Earth. The sheer amount of energy those storms had is almost incomprehensible. Katrina had sustained winds of 174 mph and wave heights of over 40 feet in some places. (Knabb) Sandy had winds of 115 mph and dumped over 10 inches of rain (Blake). By all measures, they were both extremely powerful weather systems capable of taking lives. While Super storm Sandy directly killed 148 people, Hurricane Katrina killed 1,200 (United States). The main difference being who the leaders were. The states were the clear leaders during Hurricane Sandy as they should have been. They knew what they needed and they were willing to articulate those needs at the federal level. The federal government has never been good at seeing to the day to day needs of everyday citizens. It was not set up to do so. That role has always been delegated to the states. For some reason during Katrina state and local authorities decided it was the other way around and they suffered for it. Katrina was not only a perfect storm in nature, it was also a perfect storm on all levels of government. During the crisis of hurricane Katrina there was not a clear chain of command. All of the traits one can have are unlimited depending on the type of parents, environment, and there intelect. These things can either be good or bad, still depending on the person and their thought process. • 12. The Union And The European Union The European Union is an entity that is seen nowhere else in the world. It is not a government, it is not an international organization, and it is not just an association of states. The European Union members, instead, have decided to turnover part of their sovereignty to the Union so that many decisions can be made at the institutions leadership level. This partnership includes 28 diverse democracies built together on the basis of complex treaties. Although the goals of this organization were to assist with expanding economic prosperity, peace and stability throughout its member states, the European Unionhas been faced with ever pressing concerns in the recent past that are very serious and may in fact become fatal to the continued coalescing between members. These problems can be categorized into three categories; economic, social, and political. Economically, the last 6 or so years have been nothing short of dismal for the European Union and its members. Due to the diversity among its members own national economic policies, the European Union s economic configuration and its single currency were shown to be somewhat incoherent. The European Union s gross domestic product only grew a measly one percent in 2013, compared to the United States 2.2 percent growth. In December 2014, unemployment among member nations of the European Union hovered around 11.4 percent, while the United States unemployment rate held at around 5.6 percent. • 17. Theory of Multiple Intelligences Theory of multiple intelligences The theory of multiple intelligences was proposed by Howard Gardner in 1983 as a model of intelligence that differentiates intelligence into various specific (primarily sensory) modalities[disambiguation needed], rather than seeing it as dominated by a single general ability. Gardner argues that there is a wide range of cognitive abilities, and that there are only very weak correlations among them. For example, the theory predicts that a child who learns to multiply easily is not necessarily generally more intelligent than a child who has more difficulty on this task. The child who takes more time to master simple multiplication 1) may best learn to multiply through a different approach, 2) may excel in a... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Gardner elaborates to say that this intelligence also includes a sense of timing, a clear sense of the goal of a physical action, along with the ability to train responses so they become like reflexes. In theory, people who have bodily kinesthetic intelligence should learn better by involving muscular movement (e.g. getting up and moving around into the learning experience), and are generally good at physical activities such as sports or dance. They may enjoy acting or performing, and in general they are good at building and making things. They often learn best by doing something physically, rather than by reading or hearing about it. Those with strong bodily kinesthetic intelligence seem to use what might be termed muscle memory , drawing on it to supplement or in extreme cases even substitute for other skills such as verbal memory. Careers that suit those with this intelligence include: athletes, pilots, dancers, musicians, actors, surgeons, builders, police officers, and soldiers. Although these careers can be duplicated through virtual simulation, they will not produce the actual physical learning that is needed in this intelligence.[8] ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Analysis Of White Kids Sadie Mazur Anthro 105 Rosa November 21, 2014 Appropriative Identities in Youth Culture In Mary Bucholtz book White Kids, she discusses the stature of whiteness in the United States as hegemonic, unmarked, and culturally absent, making it situational and unstable. Bucholtz suggests that to counteract that, the students she studied in her field work adopted many different identities and identifiers, such as levels of popularity and racial backgrounds, the use of language, and the physical styles with one chooses to present. One identifying marker the students use is slang. Linguists define slang as a youth dominated, rapidly changing lexicon associated with casual social contexts, but a nonlinguistic view frames slang as an illegitimate linguistic variety. The latter definition is inaccurate because these varieties have strict grammatical rules and are only illegitimate to the uneducated eye. Furthermore, calling slang illegitimate is disrespectful because it disregards the users of such language as inferior, therefore rendering them powerless. This disrespect is often aimed at the African American community, whose usage of AAVE is highly stigmatized. Slang, as a whole, is a shared youth identity in that everyone regardless of race or social status uses it; however, much of slang is available only to a certain group of people. Music like a curve of gold is used to say that listening to one another is what makes people last together. The curve of gold is a symbol for a ring, and a ring is a symbol for love and marriage. Saying Music like a curve of gold is comparing music to peoples words and how people listen to each other is what makes love last. Listening is a key virtue to what makes love last. • 34. The Pros And Cons Of Gun Control In America In recent years, violence has affected society immensely; in the Las Vegas community specifically, bullying, and crimes involving deadly weapons have been detrimental to the hearts of families. As of now, the controversial debate of gun control is sweeping the nation. As defined by the constitution, the second amendment states that citizens have a right to bear arms. One side believes there is no need for guns, whereas the other believes guns are necessary for self defense. In Las Vegas, there are many people that believe in the amendment. Nevada has some of the least restrictive gun laws in the country. The state does not require firearm owners to have licenses, register their weapons, nor restrict the amount of weapons one may own. Along with that, the state does not require sellers to do a background check before selling ammunition. This may be a contributing factor to the mass shooting that occurred in Las Vegas on October 1st. According to Chris Perez from the New York Post, the gunman unloaded approximately 900 bullets into a crowd, with multiple assault rifles. Unfortunately, 58 people were killed and hundreds were injured. With that being said, it is hard not to agree with people that want to ban guns, but on the contrary, if guns were banned, then criminals would be left unmatched. If legislature made guns illegal, then only law abiding citizens would follow the law, whereas criminals would disregard the law, and continue to purchase and use guns illegally. According to the Las Vegas Review Journal, approximately 80% of crimes in Las Vegas involved weapons; which is a 61% increase from last June. Statistics have also shown that the homicide rate in las Vegas has increased by 133% from last year; as a response, Metro police has increased the number of officers in the street. The increase of violence in the city may stem from media and entertainment. According to psychologist Leonard Eron of the University of Illinois, children who watched significant amounts of TV violence were consistently more likely to commit violent crimes, or engage in child or spouse abuse in the future. The violence in the mass shooting has not only affected the lives of innocent people, but it has also affected the politics ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 35. Premarital Sex and CatholicismВґs View on It Premarital sex is something that has been around as long as humans have been around. According to a USA Today article, a study finds that about ninety five percent of Americans have had premarital sex. With the Catholic population in American being about twenty five percent, it is safe to assume that most Catholics are not following the teachings of the Church to a tee. It is easy to say that it is the current generations that are acting more promiscuous because they are getting married later in life but the study was conducted including people that were born as far back as the 1940s. With this premarital sex it seems as though even those who believe they are good Catholics are blatantly ignoring the rules and teachings of the Church. For Catholic Christians, we must analyze our views according to culture and how the Church can capitalize on the opportunity. Catholics also must recognize the transformation of culture in relation to religion and, finally, respond to the issue. In the Bible there is no specific prohibition of premarital sex. It does however have many references to sexual immorality. In Thessalonians 4:3 5 it states that It is God s will that you should be sanctified: that you should avoid sexual immorality; that each of you should learn to control your own body in a way that is holy and honorable, not in passionate lust like the pagans, who do not know God. A growing number of probation officers, judges, prosecutors as well as other juvenile professionals are advocating for a juvenile justice system which is greatly based on restorative justice. As a primary mission, the balanced approach or policy allows juvenile justice systems together with its agencies to improve in their capacity of protecting the community and ensuring accountability of the system and the offenders . There are over 2 million individuals housed in national jails or prisons and nearly 5 million individuals on parole or probation. United States of America leads the world in punishment and incarceration, and the cost of the correctional system now surpasses $60billion annually. The rise in the costs and size of correctional facilities occurs after nearly two decades of tough reforms on crime. These tough on crime reforms got the support of both Republican and Democratic administrators in response to the increasing crimes rates experienced since 1970s. Ironically, the unabated correctional costs and financial crises have put strains on health, education and human services budgets. It is, therefore, apparent that in as much as prison systems are costing the government more money, they are becoming less effective in addressing crime rates. The criminal justice system recognizes the importance of restorative justice practice and programs to offenders in reducing the overall national crime rates. It also recognizes that a range of improvements is necessary to achieve successful integration of offenders to the community. • 38. Culture In African American Culture Music is a creative art form that allows the artist to construct something that expresses a purpose. It evolves over time and changes as the world changes, taking on many different motivations behind the melody and lyrics. In today s society, anger, oppression, racism, and negative opinions rule the media and popular culture. I believe that African Americans need to show their self worth and not let white peoplehold them back. With the music in white culture often mocking African American culture and portraying negative stereotypes, African Americans have to find ways to gain respect. In acknowledgement of the negative portrayal of their culture, African Americans respond by creating songs and videos that express their pride in their culture and heritage, react to white oppression, and communicate their independence. Kanye West s Blood on the Leaves is a powerful hip hop song that addresses modern day struggles such as drugs, sex, and poverty. Throughout the song, the lyrics of Strange Fruits by Billie Holiday blare from the background, stating strange fruit swinging from the poplar trees... blood on the leaves (Blood on the Leaves) over and over. It causes incidental or short term symptoms. These are usually spasms that occur erratically. Organic PVD involves changes in blood vessel structure. This type of PVD causes inflammation, tissue damage, and blockages (Giorgi 2015). The number one leading cause of peripheral vascular disease is atherosclerosis. Essay on Curling and Team Curling is a precision team sport similar to bowls or bocce, played on a rectangular sheet of prepared ice by two teams of four players each, using heavy polished granite stones which players slide down the ice towards a target area called the house. Points are scored for the number of stones that a team has closer to the centre of the target than the closest of the other team s stones. The game is thought to have been invented in late medieval Scotland, with the first written reference to a contest using stones on ice coming from the records of Paisley Abbey, Renfrew, in February 1541. In general the sweepers are responsible for instructing the skip in regards to the weight, or speed of the rock, and the skip and the thrower instruct regarding aim. Teams confer between throws to determine where they will attempt to place the next rock. The process of throwing a rock is known as the delivery. While not mandatory, most curlers deliver the rock from sliding out from the hack. When sliding out, one must start with one shoe (the one with the non slippery sole) against one of the hacks . For a right handed curler, this means starting from the left hack, and vice versa for a left handed curler. When delivering the rock, it is important to remember that the momentum behind how much weight is applied to the rock depends on how much leg drive the delivery has. It is usually not wise to push the rock with the arm, unless absolutely necessary. When in the hack, one must crouch down with the body lined up and shoulders square with the skip s broom at the other end. While in the hack, one may hold a broom out for balance. Different curlers hold their broom out in many different fashions. The broom is held in the hand opposite from the rock, and should be positioned so that the non sweeping side of the broom is against the ice. This prevents drag which would be caused by the soft head of the broom dragging against the ice. Before any delivery, it is important to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Reflection Paper On Law Of Nature Reflection paper questions Locke There is a need to understand the law of nature because law of nature is a perfect law of equality, peace, no superiority of one person over another and absolute freedom for everyone. Nature provides human beings with a law by which everyone is equal, everyone got equal freedom, equal rights, and no one can dominate other by using the claims of jurisdiction or autonomy. It is very important to understand the law of nature because it provides a perfect example of how a peaceful and orderly world should. In a peaceful and orderly world, there is no violation of law, if someone breaks the law he/she will be punished equally and in this way, every human being will enjoy maximized freedom. In the law of nature there is only one supreme power who is controlling nature and every living thing on nature will follow the set rules of harmony, peace and cooperation. They all shouldstay in the natural law to progress and in that way, not only nature will be preserved but human beings can also live in harmony. The concept is important because political power is a concept that is invented to run the states and communities in orderly manner and to provide freedom, equality and justice to everyone. A perfect political power will be that power that ensures law of nature is to be followed in any case and thus to understand political power, one must learn the basics of law of nature. All people are equal in the state of nature because there is only one supreme being and all human beings are equal with equal rights to prosper and live. There are no issues of jurisdiction or supremacy of one person over another because law of nature has provided every human being with equal opportunities. According to Locke the main reason we cannot harm each other is that because all human beings are created equals thus no one is superior as compare to other and if we will harm another equal being we are challenging the authority of sovereign creator who gave freedom to everyone but we are enjoying our freedom but snatching others. After the Norman Conquest kings and courts were very influential and punishments would be decided by them. If any fines of punishment were held the money would go to the king or the relevant court. After this period any civil wrong that was executed was either known as a trespass or a tort. Felonies were known as major acts against the law. Writs were legal written orders and by the thirteenth century became essential for the guidelines of retribution. There are many elements within tort; the main aspect is what act and what damage has been committed and not the reason why an individual committed an act. The theory of tort has developed and evolved during the years. The law today ensures victims of tort with remedies. Tort can be dealt with in civil courts, county courts or High courts. It depends mainly on the level of seriousness of a case. Within tort there is the area of negligence which has many different elements. • 56. Poetry Analysis Of Natasha Trethewey s Native Guard Natasha Trethewey is the southern born daughter of an African American mother and white father at a time when such relations were illegal. Her parents were married in Canada and lived for a time in California, but the pull of the south brought them home. Yet, racism reared its ugly head and the couple divorced, but not before molding a daughter who would later go on to be named Poet Laureate of the United States. Today, Trethewey is a professor of creative writing at Emory University. Her poetrycollection Native Guard which speaks of the history of life in the south won the Pulitzer Prizefor poetry in 2007 and is indeed a powerful collection. Native Guard is Trethewey s third book of poetry; first published in 2006, it won the Pulitzer for poetry in 2007. The book s about the history of the South, of race and racism, of war and peace. The eponymous Native Guard, founded in 1862, was the first African American regiment in the Union Army. One job assigned to this unit was guarding the prison of war camp at Fort Massachusetts on Ship Island, Mississippi. The crown sonnet sequence of ten sonnets that makes up Native Guard tells the history of the guard from 1862 1865. Each poem is titled with a date, and begins with a revision of the line that ended the sonnet preceding it. The first poem in the sequence begins with the end of the last poem, so it is a crown of connected sonnets. Her revisions of lines are intense, clever and beautiful. For example, here is the ending of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 57. Anabolic Steroid Use in Sports Summary Anabolic Steroid use in Sports The competitive drive to win at all cost is fierce among athletes. Winning at all cost often includes using one of many performance enhancing drugs such as anabolic steroids. Many athletes use performance enhancing drugs, like steroids, to achieve higher goals and set higher records than other drug free successful athletes. Although athletes are performing at higher levels when using such drugs, what is the cost? Finally anabolic steroids should remain banned from sports because their use results in many harmful side effects; because their use violates sports regulations, and because their use can cause death. Anabolic steroids should remain banned from sports because of the many harmful... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Another reason is the potential side effect caused by the use of anabolic steroids. Since the use of steroids has become a trend among athletes, the number of deaths among them has risen. A lot of these deaths are due to suicides and violent behavior as a result of the effect of these anabolic androgenic steroids on mood. A number of recent, well publicized deaths of American football players have drawn attention to the potential dangers of sports supplements and the raised important public health concerns about the unrestricted availability of these products that are exempt from U. S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) regulation (Haller, 2002). Performance enhancing drugs are not only dangerous and damaging; they are potentially deadly. Between 1985 and 1995, at least 121 US athletes collapsed and died during or directly after a training session or game; most often because they had hypertrophic cardiomyopathy or heart malformations (Maron, 1996). Most of the athletes that have collapsed and died during or directly after training session or game tested positive for some type of performance enhancing drug. From case reports, the incidence of life threatening effects appears to be low, but serious adverse effects may be under recognized or under reported. Data from animal studies seem to support this possibility. One study found that exposing male ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
