Social Work Is A Career Defined As “Work Carried Out By
Social Work is a career defined as work carried out by trained personal with the aim of alleviating the
conditions of those in need of help or welfare . Social work varies in several fields, social workers
work as part of multi disciplinary teams with child welfare organizations, adoption and foster care
agencies, hospitals, schools, prisons, mental health institutions, and more. Social work may leave the
impression that it s an easy field because it is assumed that all social workers do is serve others and
manage paperwork but that is only a small chunk of the job. Social workers must deal with the ethical
and emotional aspect of helping others. As a social worker, it is critical to comply with the National

With a three year grant from tittle III of the Federal Older Americans act, The Circle Center first
opened doors to the older adult population in May of 1976 on 1605 monument avenue, Richmond,
Virginia; originally known as the Stuart Circle Center .
The Circle Center has two social workers, Jay Burkhardt and Erin Brunette. I interviewed Erin
Burnette January 30, 2017 in her office at The Circle Center. When I first walked into her office, I
noticed how clean and neat it was which was surprising to me because I always imagined a social
worker s office to be unorganized with files everywhere. As I looked around I noticed pictures of her
family and historical pictures, leaving me under the impression that she was a strong advocate for
human rights. From the looks of her room, I assumed that having pictures of her family in her helps
her keep stress at a minimum while at work. Erin Burnette, from Knoxville, Tennessee moved to
Richmond in 1999 to attend Virginia Commonwealth University where she received her master in
social work. Erin also has a master of divinity from Baptist Seminary at Richmond. With her master of
divinity, Erin served as a Hospice Chaplain for ten years. As of today, she withholds sustainable
credibility due to her Erin s social work career began in the year of 2004 but she feels that she has
been involved with social work her entire life. During our interview, Erin explained why she chose

Violence In The Civil Rights Movement Essay
Discuss the role of violence and the media during the civil rights movement. The media brought the
disparities and refusals of essential social equality in the South to the consideration of the whole
country. America in the 1950s was still an on a very basic level supremacist country, however the
NAZI revulsions in Europe had made prejudice with the exception of in the South an untenable good
position. Indeed, even those with supremacist perspectives would progressively deny such
perspectives in courteous society and progressively dismisses government strategies limiting Black
rights. Given this move in White states of mind, media scope of the uncovering the brutalities of
Southern prejudice and suppression of genuine Black terminations turned the aware of a country.
While many if not most White Americans still harbored supremacist sees, couple of outside the South
supported denying Blacks the privilege to vote and other common freedoms. Most were shocked with
the beatings, murders, and different brutalities uncovered by the media. Numerous northern whites did
not comprehend what was going on in the South. Here the new medium of television conveyed

Analysis of Dennis Hopper s Easy Rider Essay
Analysis of Dennis Hopper s Easy Rider
The movie Easy Rider revolves around two bikers making a trip from Los Angeles to New Orleans, to
attend Mardi Gras. The first scene in the film involves the two main characters selling a good amount
of cocaine to a man in Rolls Royce. After the drug deal the bikers begin their journey to Mardi Gras,
but not before one of them removes his watch and throws it on the ground. I found this indicative of
his pursuit of freedom, because time serves only to constrain us. Once on the road you learn that their
names are Wyatt and Billy, an obvious reference to Wyatt Earp and Billy the Kid who are considered
American legends, as well as outlaws. Wyatt rides a chopper with the stars and stripes on the gas ...

This interaction serves to underscore the difference between Wyatt and the Hitchhiker. The hitchhiker
wants to be a fictional character; he is running from the city. Wyatt on the other hand only wants to be
himself; he is searching for something.
Wyatt and Billy bring the hiker to a commune that he lives in. Throughout this section, there is a
peaceful feeling. The commune was an idea that came to moderate popularity during the 60s
especially. This shows the idea in a very positive light. Everyone seems to be getting along, people are
having fun, and they re all sharing the workload. There isn t much food left, but the people are
working on growing food. Wyatt truly admires the people on the commune and tells Billy that they ll
make it . Wyatt feels comfortable there, as opposed to Billy who begins to freak out when the entire
commune is singing Does you hair hang low? This scene makes the differences between Wyatt and
Billy quite obvious. Wyatt is content to live in the middle of the desert on a commune for the rest of
his life. Billy on the other hand can t stand the communal life for more than one afternoon.
After leaving the commune, they get arrested for parading without a permit. This signifies a shift in
the environment. No longer are they cruising through the desert without a care in the world, they are
in the deep south which at the time was not exactly a bastion of free love and acceptance.
In jail, they meet George

Chinese Women In The Good Earth
The author of The Good Earth, Pearl S. Buck, ingeniously describes the traditions of a Chinese
woman in the early nineteenth century through the character O lan. It is traditional in the Chinese
culture to have the parents arrange the marriages for status purposes. During the marriage, the man
oversees all the decision making, while the woman must heed to whatever the husband instructs her to
do. O lan possess these characteristics, which constructs the ideal (perfect) Chinese woman. Instances
that portray this is when O lan marries Wang Lung and enters a farming life and bears two sons, Wang
Lung moves the family South, and takes a concubine later in his life, while O lan follows obediently.
Pearl S. Buck illustrates O lan as the traditional ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Wang Lung becomes one of the wealthiest man in town and one day buys a concubine by the name,
Lotus. Gurisco mentions a story in her article about a Chinese woman by the name of Madame Zhang,
who cannot bear her husband any sons so her husband buys a concubine to bear his sons Many years
later, her husband takes a concubine, who has been a maid of the family, to have a son because she had
borne no child, except a daughter (Gurisco). In the Chinese culture buying a concubine to replace your
wife was standard, but does not make it none the less hurtful. As Lotus is with Wang Lung, Wang
Lung becomes more distant and cruel towards O lan. Especially the time when O lan receives two
small pearls that she requests from Wang Lung. Wang Lung takes them away from O lan and uses it
for Lotus. In this instance, Wang Lung loses love from O lan. O lan becomes just an obedient servant
more so than a wife. O lan never curses her husband, but instead continues to serve him. This is
essential to O lan s character because it shows strength and gives O lan a more human like quality.
Pearl S. Buck displays the character O lan as having complex emotions and having the character have
no freedom to voice her concerns, whereas if O lan was more modern O lan would can divorce her
husband, which Buck does not mention anything of divorce through the whole

The Importance of Roger Spottiswoode’s Screen Adaptation...
The Importance of Roger Spottiswoode s Screen Adaptation of And The Band Played On
[1] Hollywood is no longer just a name, it is a business, a living entity holding America s people in its
grasp, and it is not about to let them go. Gradually taking on more responsibility and trying to build up
its reputation over the years, Hollywood has progressively assumed the position of history teller for
the American public. This role, whether or not an appropriate one for an industry such as Hollywood
to tackle, has catapulted actors and actresses into high paying, high visibility positions. History has

The debate over cinematic history still remains, and it will continue to challenge Hollywood,
constantly forcing the industry to make the best possible movies, producing historical epics on the big
screen, making history a universal and personable subject.
[3] In 1993, a small time director at HBO Productions thought it was about time that a movie was
made discussing the broad, taboo topic of the AIDS epidemic. Roger Spottiswoode was the director,
and he took author Randy Shilts controversial journal And The Band Played On: Politics, People and
the AIDS Epidemic (1987) and turned it into a movie. Spottiswoode took the challenge facing
Hollywood straight on and was bold enough to attempt a project that had been passed over and
rejected for six years straight. From the beginning to end And The Band Played On was a fight.
Spottiswoode fought for HBO to take the project on, and he fought with Hollywood to try to entice
actors to participate in it. The fight continued after the release of the cable TV movie, with critics and
the public simply not wanting to know or be informed of the truth.
[4] With controversy surrounding the production of the movie, the fight seeped into the movie and its
evidence in the story. The portrayal of the actors and the fight that each character undergoes is an
illustration of the fight that AIDS forced our country to face in the early 1980 s. With Richard Gere s

The Influence Of Treading In Emily Dickinson s Poems
Emily Dickinson was an American poet who was born on December tenth, 1830. Emily Dickinson
lived a very secluded life and preferred to stay in her home in New England and she even lived in
isolation starting in the 1860s only seeing close family members ( Emily Dickinson , poets.org).
Dickinson began to write while spending her days in her home reading. Her style of writing and
themes were influenced by seventeenth century English poetry ( Emily Dickinson , poets.org). Her
puritan and religious upbringing also led to her different style of writing ( Emily Dickinson ,
poets.org). Her poems were never published when she was alive, instead they were found after her
passing and published. When they found her poems after she passed they discovered she had written
around 1,800 poems ( Emily Dickinson , poets.org)! Most of her poems are about death and some

life stomping on the speaker s mind. The treading is not just light walking it is hard and forceful. With
the pressure of the treading and the mourners , the speaker begins to spiral into the realization of them

Agape Community Environmental Analysis
Humans, as individual and in our community, must respect the created world and be conscious of our
duties toward future generations (Turkson 4). Catholicism teaches us humans that we have a moral
responsibility to uphold God s creation through sustainability and social responsibility. For the
purpose of this essay, I will be drawing connections of how Pope John Paul II and Benedict XVI view
ecology within the inseparable human and natural environment. I will also discuss how the Agape
Community embodies both pope s ecological views. John Paul II was the first pope to raise the topic
about environment in his first encyclical, Redemptor Hominis in 1979. He further capitalized on this
theme with his encyclical Centesimus annus introducing the concept of preserving the human and
natural environment. Cardinal Turkson writes, damage to the natural environment is serious, but
destruction of the human environment is more serious (Turkson 4). This statement implies that the
human environment is worth more than the natural environment because God has given the earth to
humanity. In other words, John Paul II encourages human need to be met with the minimum possible
damage to the natural environment. Although one is placed on a higher pedestal, John Paul II ... Show

In his social encyclical, Caritas in veritate, Benedict XVI draws the conclusion that, the way humanity
treats the environment influences the way it treats itself, and vice versa (Turkson 6). This comment
alludes to the common biblical teaching that do unto others as you would have them do unto you . To
further drive his point about interconnectedness, Benedict XVI uses an example about rising energy
needs that leads to rising energy price. This problem not only effects poverty stricken people but also
effects the natural environment by stripping it of its resources at alarming

Live plays, sport events, TV programs (big screen TV, cable, and satellite), the internet, DVD, home

The Origin Of Smart City Movement
As the world experiences rapid advancement, the continuing population growth and urbanization are
inevitable. More population are now live in urban areas than the rural areas.
54 % of the world s population are residing in urban areas in 2014. It forecast increase to 66 percent or
an addition of 2.5 billion people in 2050 (United Nation, 2014). With this continuing of urbanization,
the cities indicate a suffer on its fundamental functionalities to services citizens as a liveable place
(Borja, 2007; Toppeta, 2010). This rapid transition raises the need in integrated policies to improve
lives (United Nation, 2014). This gives birth of the new urban development concept leveraging new
innovation introduced in the cities (Nam and Pardo, 2011).
The origin of Smart City movement is dated back since late 1990 s (Bollier, 1998). The term has been
adopted and advocated by many technologies services companies such as IBM (2009) and Cisco
(2005). It was a promotion of the integration of information systems into urban infrastructure and
services (Harrison and Donnelly, 2011).
This is a result of globalization and diffusion of technologies; cities growth process has been
influenced greatly by these two factors. Information communication technology (ICT) is now playing
an important role in governance and management of the cities in various sectors e.g. government
services, transport and traffic management, energy, health care, water, innovative urban agriculture
and waste management

Analysis Of Through A Window By Jane Goodall
Connections within Jane Goodall s Through a Window
Throughout the term, reading the book, Through a Window by Jane Goodall has been quite intriguing
for me, in that it has inspired me with new ideas and perceptions about how our own species has
evolved over time. I have really enjoyed seeing the many similarities that hominids share with other
primate species, especially chimpanzees. Goodall s research only further proves that we are not only
extremely biologically similar to chimpanzees in our DNA, but have many behavioral similarities as
well. The film, Monkey in the Mirror also shows support for our likeness in intellectuality. These
documented findings on chimpanzee and human resemblances provides the strong evidence needed to
conclude the fact that humans do indeed share a common ancestor with great apes.
I found Goodall s chapter Mothers and Daughters very fascinating, and caught my interest the most
because I immediately found myself making connections within my own life and experiences. Goodall
compared the parenting styles of the two mothers, Flo, and Passion. These two chimps have
completely opposite ways of raising their young, with Flo being very loving, nurturing, and caring of
her daughter Fifi, while Passion was a very cold, harsh, and intolerant mother to her daughter, Pom.
You can easily see the dramatic difference in how their childhood shaped the two chimpanzees in their
adulthood, just how we commonly see this in humans as well. Fifi had a

In recent years, the UN has been entrusted with providing assistance to several countries in post

Strategic Compensation And Bases For Pay
This paper will examine setting the stage for strategic compensation and bases for pay. There are three
main goals of compensation departments: internal consistency, market competitiveness, and
recognition of individual contributions. Internally consistent compensation systems define the relative
value of each job among all jobs within a company. (Martocchio, pg. 22, 2011) With this system
companies want employees to be paid more based on their qualifications and responsibilities. They

Existential Crisis In Hamlet
In Shakespeare s Hamlet, we are presented with a young man torn asunder after the sudden demise of
his father. There is a point in the play where Hamlet vocalizes his feelings of displacement and loss
within his world. The To be, or not to be monologue plunges the audience into the confused psyche of
Hamlet, allowing us to empathize with Hamlet s existential crisis. This window into Hamlet s
dilemma strikes the audience, it is relatable in that we all face moments in our lives where we stand
back and question our socially and self imposed roles. The ramblings of Hamlet echo through history,
and those same sentiments can be felt to this day. The true comparison lies in how we handle these
tribulations. Kafka, Franz, and Joachim Neugroschel. The Passenger. The Metamorphosis, in the Penal
Colony, and Other Stories: With Two New Stories. 1st Scribner pbk. fiction ed., New York, Simon
Schuster, 2000, pp. 40 41. In Kafka s The Passenger we are presented with an allegorical story about a
person on a trolley car, watching as life passes. In the introduction I stand on the platform of the
trolley car and am completely insecure about my footing in this world in this city, in my family. Nor
could I indicate even casually what demands I might rightfully make in any direction... we have the
entire basis of this short story. Kafka puts to words the feelings of his and his generation, feelings of
being out of place in a rapidly changing world. Shakespeare and Kafka both abided in time periods
that we re seeing social changes occurring. Shakespeare may have used Hamlet to vocalize his
feelings about being out of place in his world. Kafka used his short story The Passenger to put to
words his feelings of displacement and unfamiliarity with the world around him. Hamlet s To be, or
not to be monologue and Kafka s The Passenger show similar feelings of confusion and disassociation
from their specific worlds. Hamlet debates life and death, action vs inaction, suffering, an inability to
choose a direction; Kafka skips the debate and delves directly to the heart of the issue, a complete
insecurity with no direction in the world. Munch, Edvard. Evening on Karl Johan Street. 1892, oil on

It Has Become Apparent That Throughout History Societies
It has become apparent that throughout history societies have formed as a means of improving
efficiency and quality of life. In that pursuit, ideology has become the main topic of discussion. The
long lasting argument of which societal structure and set of societal norms will reap the most benefits
continues today, specifically in the United States. However, it has not been until recently that Marxists
methods of analysis have become a significant source of discussion within the country. As the
exploration into Marxist ideology continues, it becomes apparent that the concepts themselves also
become more and more normalized within American culture. The idea of Marxism has become widely
accepted; enough so as to make it into mainstream ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As displayed in the show, without these factors the fate of, not only the individual but, the group is at
stake. In this zombie infested world, the zombies themselves can be seen as a metaphor for the
Marxist criticism of capitalism. In a similar manner to that of which capitalism seeks profit for
individual s own sake, these zombies desperately pursue and starve for human flesh. The events that
occur in The Walking Dead can help illustrate the principles that Karl Marx and Marxism founded at
the time. Much like it is for the characters in the show, Marxism s ultimate priority is simply to
survive. However, much like the disease infesting the city of Atlanta, capitalism withholds a desire to
expand. It bases itself on risk, causing unnecessary obstacles for people to reach their end goal, which
should be to sustain themselves.
A major point made by Karl Marx seemed to be the abandonment of private property. For Rick s
surviving group the implementation of this concept is a must. In their zombie filled world it is
important that the survivors keep on the move and detach themselves from any useless items. The
group never settles, always residing in temporary homes like farmhouses, camps, shops, and prisons;
knowing that claiming private property could be a liability or futile.
Within the Communist Manifesto, Marx also encourages the abandonment of the family

Korea Inhumane Research Paper
There are countries on this planet that still commit inhumane acts towards their own people every day;
one country that still does this is the Democratic People s Republic of Korea. The Democratic People
s Republic of Korea, since its creation after World War II, has used inhumane methods and
propaganda to get the people to obey the government.
The root of this cause sprung into existence before the Second World War and the Japanese
exploitation of the land. Koreans were then known as the Hermit Kingdom , as they would resist any
form of foreign occupation. In 1866, an armed Merchant Ship, called the USS General Sherman , (

Border Wall Research Paper
Research Paper Often times current events and issues can be linked to events throughout history; one
situation in particular regarding border walls has gone through trial and error. A border wall is simply
a wall along the border surrounding a country or state, although the complications that encompass it
are anything but similar. Border walls have been built to defend or punish a country, but in modern
time it s main use is to maintain illegal immigration. The leading Republican Presidential candidate
promises to build a wall along the border separating the United States and Mexico if he gains
presidency. How does he plan on paying for this? He doesn t; Donald Trump has publicly announced
that he plans on forcing Mexico to fund said wall. It goes without saying that there is a vast amount of
controversy behind this topic of discussion.

In many cases, the walls ended up in ruins whether from invaders or outrage of citizens. As
aforementioned, current presidential front runner Donald Trump aims to build a massive wall to
separate Mexico and the United States. There are many problems, however that go along with this
plan. The cost is simply too high, and it is unrealistic to genuinely expect the citizens of Mexico to pay
for it. This demand has sparked an outrage and an absolute refusal to cover the cost of the wall. Aside
from cost, there are other issues at hand. The sad reality is that the border region is still viewed as a
barren land, with no history, no culture, not inhabited (Hong). To separate two countries is to strip
away the culture and communication. The United States is a country built on other cultures, it is what

Outlining Two Theories of Development Essay
Theories of child development have been researched and published over the years. These researches
have been done by popular theorists four of whom are Piaget (1896 1980), Vygotsky (1896 1934),
Ausubel (1918 2008) and Kohlberg (1927 1987). First and foremost let me define the term theory. A
theory is a collection of related statements; the principal function of which is to summarize and
explain observations. It is in a sense an invention designed to make sense of what we know or suspect.
Developmental theory on the other hand is a systematic statement of principles and generalizations
that provides a coherent framework for understanding how and why people change as they grow older.

principles based on judgments that are universal, irreversible, and consistent. His theory holds that
moral reasoning, which is the basis for ethical behavior, has six identifiable developmental
constructive stages each more adequate at responding to moral dilemmas than the last. In studying
these, Kohlberg followed the development of moral judgment far beyond the ages originally studied
earlier by Piaget, who also claimed that logic and morality develop through constructive stages.
Expanding considerably upon this groundwork, it was determined that the process of moral
development was principally concerned with justice and that its development continued throughout
the lifespan, even spawning dialogue of philosophical implications of such research. Kohlberg studied
moral reasoning by presenting subjects with moral dilemmas. He would then categorize and classify
the reasoning used in the responses into one of six distinct stages, grouped into three levels: pre

Social Issues In Secret Ballot
In this selection of independent Iranian works, we are granted modern perspective of some social
issues that have and continue to plague the nation, as well as offering a look into the lives of several
citizens of Iran in various social and political contexts. Here we explore four controversial films,
followed by a brief overview of Fariba Vafi s novel, My Bird.
In Secret Ballot, a 2001 Iranian film directed by Babak Payami, we are exposed to many of the rural
ideals and sexist overtones that represent the prejudice that is still prevalent today in much of Iran.
When the voting agent arrives, the posted soldier expresses that her job is one to be only done by a
man, and nearly refuses to follow the order to escort her to gather votes because it did not specify that
she would be a woman. The two ride around the small island in search of eligible and willing voters.
Throughout the journey, the ballot collector is confronted with an array of hurdles due to cultural
delay in rural parts. Gathering ballots is not made easy by standoffish citizens, illiterate country folk,
and unconcerned non voters.
The sociosexual norms of the rural island from which they collect votes are clearly very different than
where the unnamed agent is from. She is independent, educated, and holds a government job, while

The French Revolution And Neo Classical Era
Lumières
Show Title
The 18th century was a time for human knowledge to thrive, as well as the challenging of long held
dogmatic practices; this meant much change for both the commoner as well as the nobility. Lumières
is the title of our exhibition, which translates to Enlightenment in French, which we found to be most
appropriate for this era. This show title would instantly grab the audience s attention as it effectively
communicates the meaning behind the exhibit. The enlightenment was among many movements that
contributed to the progressiveness of the 1700 s during the French Revolution and Neo Classical era,
but none had nearly the impact that the Enlightenment era did for society in this time.

However, it is not until the 1760 s that the stagnation of fashion and its evolutionary pace shifts from a
gradual change to rapid progression (Payne, Winakor Farell Beck, 1992).
Our goal is to study more specifically the Neoclassical era, because this period in France gave a newly
and creative sense of style in both the arts and architecture that was very similar to those in ancient
Rome and Greece (Craske, 1997). During this conflict it caused people to recognize social status and
freedom of dress. This revolt caused civilians mainly middle class to rebel for equality and freedom
among their society (Mezler, 1998). Furthermore, our group will analyze this decline of the pompous
nobility as France is experiencing the onset of a revolution. Following this shift is the ultimate demise
of formal aristocracy, the once cynosure of all eyes has met their fate at the guillotine. A guillotine,
meant to symbolize the Reign of Terror nearing the end of the eighteenth century would perhaps be a
fitting and symbolic final piece to the exhibition.
International Location In addition to Dallas, the exhibition will also be held in Versailles, France.
As stated in Blum s introduction for the book Illusion and Reality: Fashion in France 1700 1900

structured court Louis XIV had created here. Another reason to have the exhibit here would be

Benjamin Franklin Influence
Perhaps, one of the most quotable men in the United States history is Benjamin Franklin. He was a
visionary who coined multitudes of aphorisms such as, Have you something to do tomorrow? Do it

his ability to make memorable phrases, he was also a pioneer in inventions from the stove to bifocals
to the lighting rod. He is a man who has become known as one of the founding fathers of the United
States and who, to this day, graces our hundred dollar bills. Ironically enough, this man who has

He believed that uniting the colonies and England would lead to a stronger nation. Franklin was sure
that having the crown, as a mother country, was not an ailment but rather a powerful helping hand for
the colonies. In fact, as he and the colonies grew in independence and self sufficiency, Franklin and
other leaders drew up a proposal to ensure their voice in legislation without being free of the power of
the English. He states, By this plan the general government was to be administered by a president
general, appointed and supported by the crown, a grand council was to be chosen by the representative
assemblies (Franklin 102). However, the English rejected the idea and deemed it too democratic and
although the proposal was not approved, Franklin still held some levels of patriotism towards Britain.
Keeping in mind the high regard he held England it is no wonder he was more so inclined around the
time of the Seven Years War to fight alongside the British. He was quick to come up with plans on
defense and was efficient in acquiring what was needed in terms of money and defense. He worked
closed with Generals and Governors, and was an instrumental part of the war. Franklin was sure to
solidify his place as an American who was highly regarded by the English and in a sense might have

it draws on the epicness of its source material, William Shakespeare s timeless play Hamlet . While
the themes of revenge and death are represented in Lion King , it is toned down in order to appeal to

Since 1994, Haiti has experienced seven major military and humanitarian interventions undertaken by
the United States of America (USA) and the United Nations (UN). These interventions are thought to
have helped Haiti develop economically and politically, but has this been the case? Despite the many
interventions, or perhaps because of them, Haiti is still the poorest country in the Western Hemisphere
and one of the poorest countries in the world. The country is overwhelmed with corruption, high
unemployment, high crime levels, and miserable economic prospects for its citizens. Looking at the
advantages and disadvantages of the interventions gives us a clearer picture of why Haiti is in such a

Bros Before Hos Analysis
In this comparative essay, I will be relating the points that are driven by the movie Crazy Stupid Love
and the narrative Bros before Hos by Kimmel. For some background information on these, I will start
by summarizing the movie Crazy Stupid Love. The movie Crazy Stupid love is about a man named
Cal who has lost what his Manliness Mentor calls his manhood or what we will be calling it is his
masculinity. Cal s wife leaves him to go be with another guy and all Cal can do is pout around at bars
until a sly, young, and smooth talking man (Jacob) comes to Jacobs rescue to help him get his
manhood back. Overall, this movie is a Romantic Comedy that has numerous twists and turns in the
plot to keep the viewer watching.

This can be explained by a simple explanation. These men want to know the true meaning of manhood
and masculinity, perhaps the character and/or narrator are just the director/ author and what they really
are seeking to understand is the true ideas or perception of manhood in society. What does the author
show that the director does not? The author in hindsight shows a lot of ideas that can be perceived as
cliché and he shows numerous accounts of anecdotes, whereas the director sticks to one line of the
story and shows the evolution of Cal s masculinity, as it starts as him being a less masculine, manly
man. Then towards the end or near scene twenty one, it is seen that he is a dominant male or alpha
male. How are these ideas important to society and what group are these pieces geared towards? The
ideas are important to the male gender because no matter what a man tells you they are always looking
for the true ideas of manhood even if they don t say so themselves; thus, these pieces (movie and
narrative) are aimed towards intriguing the males in society. In conclusion, we can see multiple key
ideas presented by both the narrative and the movie but the one key idea that sticks out and is Key to
both plots is masculinity because masculinity is defined and shown in both pieces, whether it is

The Student Non-Violent Coordinating Committee (SNCC)
In the art and literature memorializing the Civil Rights movement, no one individual is more
prominently represented than Martin Luther King Jr. . He is remembered in books, statues, and even
streets bearing his name in almost every city. One historian said, We trapped King in romantic
images... frozen his legacy in worship. King has become the martyr of the Civil Rights Movement and
his legacy has thus overshadowed the legacy of the other activists and groups who helped move the
Civil Rights movement forward, including the Student Non Violent Coordinating Committee, an
organization created by southern black youth. Though King s actions were powerful tools in the push
for racial equality, his efforts were only a part of the overall impetus driving the United States towards
equality. The Student Non Violent Coordinating Committee ( SNCC ) led activism in a community
based, long term protest fashion. At the same time the Southern Christian Leadership Council ( SCLC
), the group led by Dr. King, used a media powered and more presentation based protest method to
rally Americans at the national level. Towards the end of the Civil Rights Movement SNCC became
more radical in its approach, eventually leading to its own demise, while the SCLC stayed religiously
peaceful. The different ideas and sometimes contradicting actions of the Student Nonviolent
Coordinating Committee and the Southern Christian Leadership Conference eventually helped lead to
the racial equality as we know it

Women In Puritan New England
Many historians believed Puritan New England was a Male Dominated society that tightly imprisoned
women s personalities . Women were thought to have stayed inside the home and to have done chores
to please their husband. With very few records to disprove this notion, due to the fact mostly all
business transactions were male to male, it was assumed this was true. That was until diaries and
journals kept by women in the late 18th century began to emerge. Women did provide services to
people outside their own household, the services were just small in nature. Usually small enough to

The Diverse Roles of Women in Movies Essay
The Diverse Roles of Women in Movies
In society we have a lot of women actresses. Some tend to play the motherly type, some play the
manipulator type and some even play the victims of abusive relationships. No matter what women
seem to be coming up in the industry of movies in more ways than before. The three movies I have
chosen to analyze in my critique are Heartbreakers, Baby Boy and Stepmom. These three movies all
have women in them that either play a major role or the main role. All their roles are very different in
character and none of the women in these three movies play a similar role.

The second movie in which a woman plays a major role in is Baby Boy. This movie, I believe did not
do too much damage to the box offices when it first came out, but it sure portrayed women in a very
negative way. The main character is actually a man by the name of Tyrese Gibson. He plays a boy who
is struggling to grow up and become not only an independent adult, but also a responsible father (to
more than one child). The main female role in the movie is Tyrese s baby s mother. She is in love with
him and would do anything to keep him happy. She let s him use her car and she let s him stay at her
place at any time with her and their son. He cheats on her a lot and at one point even hits her. This was
a major part in the movie. He had promised her he would never lay his hands on her and he did. She
stopped talking to him for quite some time, and that whole time you could sense they were both
miserable without eachother. Some men tend to hurt women for the simple facts that they just don t
know how to control their anger or because they were never taught good communication skills. They
end up telling one another that they can t live without each other and they get back together. She ends

How Did George Dewey Conquer The Philippines
On the morning of April 30th, 1898, George Dewey set his sights on capturing Manila Bay. Opposing
his crew, he opted to attack Manila through Subic Bay. This would be a crucial point to capture and

always a whisper of, here comes the Admiral. Dewey was always focused and even though he wasn t
the loudest on the ship, Dewey would always be eager to fight for his country. He was quiet, cool,
composed but determined...He knows what to do and does it. He always seemed like he had control of
any situation no matter how bad or good it was. A fine night for a smoke, eh Gridley, said Dewey,
loading ammo and food onto the vessel. At some points, he also helped out his men do their jobs.
Dewey went from lookout to lookout, personally giving them directions to keep a sharp and vigilant
watch for the enemy.
Before the battle of Manila, Dewey had some help scoping out the bay for sea mines and if a squadron
was camped out by the entrance. Consul Williams who went to the extreme to deliver the information
to Dewey, helped him immensely. At one point, he was threatened by a mob in the Philippines who
identified him as a spy for the United States. But Dewey greatly appreciated his presence. Through
him we learned of the mounting of six new guns on Corregidor, on the entrance at Manila Bay. Dewey
took his information about the Battle very seriously. The information that we received from him....was

just a few comments that cross a person s mind at a point of disappointment. Although,
disappointment is a very common emotion that is experienced by every person at one point or another
in their life, it is accepted and interpreted differs from to person. Yet disappointments in life, can in
reality be an asset to improve the quality of a person s life, open better opportunities, and provide a
new lifestyle to live. In the following examples, one can see how these outcomes of disappointment
are reflected in two different individuals. J.K. Rowling, the famous writer of Harry Potter and The

Application Of The Gauss Newton Method
As a final example of the application of the Gauss Newton method, we attempted to find the best fit
for a set of data with a sinusoidal function. This example illustrates how the Gauss Newton method
can applied to functions with more that just two variables, and that it can be applied to an equation of
any form. In it, will attempt to model temperature data with a sinusoidal function. Below is a chart of
the average high temperatures per month of the city of Monroe Louisiana (courtesy of weather.com).
Month Temperature (Fahrenheit) January 56 February 60 March 69 April 77 May 84 June 90 July 94
August 94 September 88 October 79 November 68 December 58 As can be seen by the chart, this data
appears to take the form of a sinusoidal function. Therefore, we will try to fit it with the general form
of this function, shown below: y(t)=A∗sin(w∗t+phi )+C A is the amplitude, w is the frequency, t is
time, phi is the phase and C is a constant. Given this equation there are four unknowns that must be
found. In the code, these four variables are represented by the column vector a and are returned in the
column vector w. As always, the code requires that we first solve, analytically, for the partial
derivatives required for the Jacobian. In this example, the function to be minimized, r, is given by:
rk=qk−(a1∗sin(a2∗pk+a3)+a4) where rk is the residual at the particular temperature value, qk is the
measured temperature and pk is the month, represented in the code as January = 1, February

Women Of Color In Women s Studies
The author s main problem to address that some conflicts within classes about women of color in
women s studies arise as symbols of deeper problems within the field of women s studies. The write
offers a description of some of the tensions that arise in the Women of Color in the U.S. class, and
attempts to contextualize such tensions, by pointing to the ways in which women of color have
historically been marginalized within women s studies and ostensibly included in more recent years
through the development of classes like Women of Color in the U.S. The Women of Color in the U.S.

In order to illustrate this, Fahs examines seven key examples where women are caught between joyous
celebrations of sexual progress and disturbingly regressive attacks on their sexual empowerment:
orgasm, sexual satisfaction, treatment for sexual dysfunction, rape and sexual coercion, body hair as
personal choice, same sex eroticism, and sexual fantasy. Ultimately, Fahs argues that the sex positive
movement must advance its politics to include a more serious consideration of the freedom from as it
relates to the freedom to. In addition, Fahs argues that the sex positive movement must advance its
politics to include a more serious consideration of the freedom from repressive structures. By
outlining several ways that the freedom from and the freedom to are currently in conversation in
discourses of women s sexuality, the author argues that the integration of these two halves could lead
to a subtler and more complete understanding of the contemporary sexual politics, particularly around
tensions that arose during the infamous sex wars of the 1980s, thus helpings to build a more cohesive
and powerful feminist movement as a whole. As a vision for sex positivity, Fahs also argues that we
need three broadly defined goals, each of which contributes to a larger vision that prioritizes a

Over the last 30 years, videos games have become very desirable for people of all ages, genders, and
race. With the rapid growth of technology these games have become very life like and some seem as if
your actually there in person. The rapid growth has made the video industry into a multi billon dollar
industry and this has created much controversy among the people because the games are becoming
very realistic, but also more violent. Since the creation of violent video games there have been
constant disputes to whether these games will increase violence in the player. Nevertheless, there have
been researches done to try and understand the correlation between video games and violence. These
researches haven t only showed that the violent ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Many acts of violent crimes have connected to young players and violent videos games. These young
players aren t supposed to be playing this game anyways. There is a reason these games are labeled
with the game rating. An 8 year old boy intentionally killed a 90 year old woman when he shot her in
the head inside a Louisiana mobile home after playing a violent video game, police said.
But the child won t be charged with a crime.
The boy fatally shot his elderly caregiver, Marie Smothers, after playing Grand Theft Auto IV a video
game critics often blame for promoting violence inside the mobile home at a Slaughter, La., trailer
park Thursday evening, police said. (Kemp)
I wonder why an 8 year kid is playing a game that has a label on it that clearly has a label print on to
the cover saying it is for people 18 years old and up. Here s a 8 year old boy who is barely capable of
thinking on his own and he s playing a game that he s 10 years to young to be playing. My really
question is how do you put that on the creators of the game? The game creators clearly put an age
restrictions on the game for a reason because the content is very influential for someone who isn t 18
or older. People over 18 year old person are able to think for them selves as where an 8 year is not.
When your 18 you have almost a complete understand of what s right and what s wrong. The

Racism in the Chesapeake Area Essay
Racism in the Chesapeake Area
The Chesapeake area in the seventeenth century was a unique community that was almost absent of
racism. In this community, at this time, property was the central and primary definition of one s place
in society. The color of one s skin was not a fundamental factor in being a well respected and valued
member of the community. Virginia s Eastern Shore represented a very small fellowship of people that
were not typical of the Southern ideals during this time period and gave free blacks owning property a
great deal of respect and merit usually equal to that of any white man around. Racism, as a
generalization, was a common and mostly unified way of thinking in the Southern states for a very

Also, as governor, Bennett may have helped to look after the Johnson s legal and economic interests
as well. By acquiring his estate, it enabled Johnson to have a constant source of income and therefore
help the local community with it s economy similarly. This relationship between he and the
community came to help him when later his estate nearly burned down entirely. The court of
Northampton treated him very well in helping them get through the disaster. He was treated just as any
white man in Johnson s position would have been. This example alone shows how merely owning
property and giving back to the local community was a priority in establishing respect among people
of the Northampton area; his skin color did not matter. Another free black, Philip Mongum, was given
usually respectable treatment for a crime of adultery with a white woman, Margery Tyer. Mongum
was lucky enough to have been sold his freedom and managed to become a relatively prosperous
farmer. He also leased a 300 acre plantation with two white men in 1678 and later in 1680 acquired
more land, 200 acres, on his own. Needless to say this give him a very high level of respect and
standing among the local people. When the issue of the affair was discovered Northampton appeared
more concerned with the Sin of Adultry than having any concern that he was black. Mongum received
a large fine and was told to keep out of the company of

The Battle Of The Texas Revolution
Our next discussion in American History takes us on the special journey back to the Texas Revolution.
This battle saw a lot of heroes and also coined one of the most famous sayings in the state of Texas,
Remember the Alamo ! However, before we can get to all the guts and glory we must first look at the
causes that lead to this epic revolution to understand both sides of the coin. I will look at the
background, battles, people and results of the Texas Revolution, as well as give my opinion of the
Mexican government s innocence or blame in this battle.
This story starts back on 10/01/1800, it is this day that the Treaty of San IIdefonso was signed. When
the treaty was signed it returned Louisiana from Spain back to France. Spain ... Show more content on

This is a point where Mexico only had 3,500 native Mexicans settled in Texas; so in 1821, the Spanish
government granted permission to Austin to settle 300 families in Texas. Austin s luck was about to
turn around for him with this deal. On the other hand, he would not see his vision come to fruition, as
he would perish on a return trip from Mexico City after being robbed. Before his untimely passing, his
son Stephen F. Austin promised his father he would carry out the task and see it until the end.
The year is now 1824 and a young Stephen F. Austin has attracted 272 colonists to Texas at this point;
in addition to that he was also able to persuade the newly independent Mexican government to give
empresarios (or land agents) 67,000 acres of land for every 200 families brought to Texas. That s
approximately 335 acres a family which is unheard of. Mexico did agree to the term with two
conditions pertaining to land ownership; first the settlers had to become Mexican citizens and
secondly they had to covert to Roman Catholicism. Converting to Roman Catholicism proved to be a
Puritan Problem , however by 1830 there were 16,000 Americans in Texas. With these numbers the
American formed a 4 to 1 majority in the northern section of Coahuila y Tejas, however overall
Hispanic heritage formed a majority in state as a whole.

Subnatial Killers In Halloween And Wes Craven s A...
In every horror film, there is always a serial killer or supernatural being terrorizing an innocent group
of individuals. Films such as John Carpenter s Halloween and Wes Craven s A Nightmare on Elm
Street involve supernaturally based serial killers who commit murders in the name of revenge. The
gory nature and explicit violence lead people to wonder why these monsters are created. Deep in the
typical human subconscious, there are fears and impulses that can only be released through these
films. When we watch horror films, we try our hardest to relate to the victims only to find out that we
are more connected to the villain. Each time the killer slits the blonde cheerleaders throat or the
demon drags the handsome football star to the greatest depths of hell, we feel as if it is well deserved.
These scenes allow us to temporarily descend into the beautiful art of absurdity, which lies within our
minds, without physically hurting another person. Stephen King states in his essay titled Why We
Crave Horror Movies that The potential lyncher is in almost all of us (excluding saints, past and
present; but then, most saints have been crazy in their own ways), and every now and then, he has to
let loose to scream and roll around in the grass. King is implying that even the sanest man has a
negative impulse stored deeply in his subconscious. Although a person may seem sane to the public,
they are capable of committing the most heinous crimes known to humanity, and may even think

Social work varies in several fields, social workers work as part of multi disciplinary teams with child welfare organizations, adoption and foster care agencies, hospitals, schools, prisons, mental health institutions, and more. Social work may leave the impression that it s an easy field because it is assumed that all social workers do is serve others and manage paperwork but that is only a small chunk of the job. When I first walked into her office, I noticed how clean and neat it was which was surprising to me because I always imagined a social worker s office to be unorganized with files everywhere. As I looked around I noticed pictures of her family and historical pictures, leaving me under the impression that she was a strong advocate for human rights. From the looks of her room, I assumed that having pictures of her family in her helps her keep stress at a minimum while at work. The media brought the disparities and refusals of essential social equality in the South to the consideration of the whole country. America in the 1950s was still an on a very basic level supremacist country, however the NAZI revulsions in Europe had made prejudice with the exception of in the South an untenable good position. Indeed, even those with supremacist perspectives would progressively deny such perspectives in courteous society and progressively dismisses government strategies limiting Black rights. Given this move in White states of mind, media scope of the uncovering the brutalities of Southern prejudice and suppression of genuine Black terminations turned the aware of a country. While many if not most White Americans still harbored supremacist sees, couple of outside the South supported denying Blacks the privilege to vote and other common freedoms. Analysis of Dennis Hopper s Easy Rider Essay Analysis of Dennis Hopper s Easy Rider The movie Easy Rider revolves around two bikers making a trip from Los Angeles to New Orleans, to attend Mardi Gras. The first scene in the film involves the two main characters selling a good amount of cocaine to a man in Rolls Royce. After the drug deal the bikers begin their journey to Mardi Gras, but not before one of them removes his watch and throws it on the ground. I found this indicative of his pursuit of freedom, because time serves only to constrain us. The commune was an idea that came to moderate popularity during the 60s especially. This shows the idea in a very positive light. Everyone seems to be getting along, people are having fun, and they re all sharing the workload. There isn t much food left, but the people are working on growing food. Wyatt truly admires the people on the commune and tells Billy that they ll make it . Wyatt feels comfortable there, as opposed to Billy who begins to freak out when the entire commune is singing Does you hair hang low? This scene makes the differences between Wyatt and Billy quite obvious. Wyatt is content to live in the middle of the desert on a commune for the rest of his life. • 5. Chinese Women In The Good Earth The author of The Good Earth, Pearl S. Buck, ingeniously describes the traditions of a Chinese woman in the early nineteenth century through the character O lan. It is traditional in the Chinese culture to have the parents arrange the marriages for status purposes. During the marriage, the man oversees all the decision making, while the woman must heed to whatever the husband instructs her to do. O lan possess these characteristics, which constructs the ideal (perfect) Chinese woman. In the Chinese culture buying a concubine to replace your wife was standard, but does not make it none the less hurtful. As Lotus is with Wang Lung, Wang Lung becomes more distant and cruel towards O lan. Especially the time when O lan receives two small pearls that she requests from Wang Lung. Wang Lung takes them away from O lan and uses it for Lotus. In this instance, Wang Lung loses love from O lan. O lan becomes just an obedient servant more so than a wife. O lan never curses her husband, but instead continues to serve him. This is essential to O lan s character because it shows strength and gives O lan a more human like quality. Pearl S. The debate over cinematic history still remains, and it will continue to challenge Hollywood, constantly forcing the industry to make the best possible movies, producing historical epics on the big screen, making history a universal and personable subject. [3] In 1993, a small time director at HBO Productions thought it was about time that a movie was made discussing the broad, taboo topic of the AIDS epidemic. Roger Spottiswoode was the director, and he took author Randy Shilts controversial journal And The Band Played On: Politics, People and the AIDS Epidemic (1987) and turned it into a movie. Spottiswoode took the challenge facing Hollywood straight on and was bold enough to attempt a project that had been passed over and rejected for six years straight. From the beginning to end And The Band Played On was a fight. Spottiswoode fought for HBO to take the project on, and he fought with Hollywood to try to entice actors to participate in it. The fight continued after the release of the cable TV movie, with critics and the public simply not wanting to know or be informed of the truth. [4] With controversy surrounding the production of the movie, the fight seeped into the movie and its evidence in the story. Catholicism teaches us humans that we have a moral responsibility to uphold God s creation through sustainability and social responsibility. For the purpose of this essay, I will be drawing connections of how Pope John Paul II and Benedict XVI view ecology within the inseparable human and natural environment. I will also discuss how the Agape Community embodies both pope s ecological views. John Paul II was the first pope to raise the topic about environment in his first encyclical, Redemptor Hominis in 1979. He further capitalized on this theme with his encyclical Centesimus annus introducing the concept of preserving the human and natural environment. Cardinal Turkson writes, damage to the natural environment is serious, but destruction of the human environment is more serious (Turkson 4). This statement implies that the human environment is worth more than the natural environment because God has given the earth to humanity. In other words, John Paul II encourages human need to be met with the minimum possible damage to the natural environment. Although one is placed on a higher pedestal, John Paul II ... I have really enjoyed seeing the many similarities that hominids share with other primate species, especially chimpanzees. Goodall s research only further proves that we are not only extremely biologically similar to chimpanzees in our DNA, but have many behavioral similarities as well. The film, Monkey in the Mirror also shows support for our likeness in intellectuality. These documented findings on chimpanzee and human resemblances provides the strong evidence needed to conclude the fact that humans do indeed share a common ancestor with great apes. I found Goodall s chapter Mothers and Daughters very fascinating, and caught my interest the most because I immediately found myself making connections within my own life and experiences. Goodall compared the parenting styles of the two mothers, Flo, and Passion. These two chimps have completely opposite ways of raising their young, with Flo being very loving, nurturing, and caring of her daughter Fifi, while Passion was a very cold, harsh, and intolerant mother to her daughter, Pom. • 23. Existential Crisis In Hamlet In Shakespeare s Hamlet, we are presented with a young man torn asunder after the sudden demise of his father. There is a point in the play where Hamlet vocalizes his feelings of displacement and loss within his world. The To be, or not to be monologue plunges the audience into the confused psyche of Hamlet, allowing us to empathize with Hamlet s existential crisis. This window into Hamlet s dilemma strikes the audience, it is relatable in that we all face moments in our lives where we stand back and question our socially and self imposed roles. The ramblings of Hamlet echo through history, and those same sentiments can be felt to this day. The true comparison lies in how we handle these tribulations. Kafka, Franz, and Joachim Neugroschel. The Passenger. The Metamorphosis, in the Penal Colony, and Other Stories: With Two New Stories. 1st Scribner pbk. fiction ed., New York, Simon Schuster, 2000, pp. 40 41. In Kafka s The Passenger we are presented with an allegorical story about a person on a trolley car, watching as life passes. In the introduction I stand on the platform of the trolley car and am completely insecure about my footing in this world in this city, in my family. Nor could I indicate even casually what demands I might rightfully make in any direction... we have the entire basis of this short story. Kafka puts to words the feelings of his and his generation, feelings of being out of place in a rapidly changing world. Shakespeare and Kafka both abided in time periods that we re seeing social changes occurring. Shakespeare may have used Hamlet to vocalize his feelings about being out of place in his world. Kafka used his short story The Passenger to put to words his feelings of displacement and unfamiliarity with the world around him. Hamlet s To be, or not to be monologue and Kafka s The Passenger show similar feelings of confusion and disassociation from their specific worlds. Hamlet debates life and death, action vs inaction, suffering, an inability to choose a direction; Kafka skips the debate and delves directly to the heart of the issue, a complete insecurity with no direction in the world. Border walls have been built to defend or punish a country, but in modern time it s main use is to maintain illegal immigration. The leading Republican Presidential candidate promises to build a wall along the border separating the United States and Mexico if he gains presidency. How does he plan on paying for this? He doesn t; Donald Trump has publicly announced that he plans on forcing Mexico to fund said wall. It goes without saying that there is a vast amount of controversy behind this topic of discussion. In many cases, the walls ended up in ruins whether from invaders or outrage of citizens. As aforementioned, current presidential front runner Donald Trump aims to build a massive wall to separate Mexico and the United States. There are many problems, however that go along with this plan. The cost is simply too high, and it is unrealistic to genuinely expect the citizens of Mexico to pay for it. This demand has sparked an outrage and an absolute refusal to cover the cost of the wall. Aside from cost, there are other issues at hand. The sad reality is that the border region is still viewed as a barren land, with no history, no culture, not inhabited (Hong). To separate two countries is to strip away the culture and communication. The United States is a country built on other cultures, it is what keeps this nation colorful and lively. • 27. Outlining Two Theories of Development Essay Theories of child development have been researched and published over the years. These researches have been done by popular theorists four of whom are Piaget (1896 1980), Vygotsky (1896 1934), Ausubel (1918 2008) and Kohlberg (1927 1987). First and foremost let me define the term theory. A theory is a collection of related statements; the principal function of which is to summarize and explain observations. It is in a sense an invention designed to make sense of what we know or suspect. Developmental theory on the other hand is a systematic statement of principles and generalizations that provides a coherent framework for understanding how and why people change as they grow older. His theory holds that moral reasoning, which is the basis for ethical behavior, has six identifiable developmental constructive stages each more adequate at responding to moral dilemmas than the last. In studying these, Kohlberg followed the development of moral judgment far beyond the ages originally studied earlier by Piaget, who also claimed that logic and morality develop through constructive stages. Expanding considerably upon this groundwork, it was determined that the process of moral development was principally concerned with justice and that its development continued throughout the lifespan, even spawning dialogue of philosophical implications of such research. Kohlberg studied moral reasoning by presenting subjects with moral dilemmas. He would then categorize and classify the reasoning used in the responses into one of six distinct stages, grouped into three levels: pre conventional, conventional ... Social Issues In Secret Ballot In this selection of independent Iranian works, we are granted modern perspective of some social issues that have and continue to plague the nation, as well as offering a look into the lives of several citizens of Iran in various social and political contexts. Here we explore four controversial films, followed by a brief overview of Fariba Vafi s novel, My Bird. In Secret Ballot, a 2001 Iranian film directed by Babak Payami, we are exposed to many of the rural ideals and sexist overtones that represent the prejudice that is still prevalent today in much of Iran. When the voting agent arrives, the posted soldier expresses that her job is one to be only done by a man, and nearly refuses to follow the order to escort her to gather votes because it did not specify that she would be a woman. The two ride around the small island in search of eligible and willing voters. Throughout the journey, the ballot collector is confronted with an array of hurdles due to cultural delay in rural parts. Gathering ballots is not made easy by standoffish citizens, illiterate country folk, and unconcerned non voters. The sociosexual norms of the rural island from which they collect votes are clearly very different than where the unnamed agent is from. However, it is not until the 1760 s that the stagnation of fashion and its evolutionary pace shifts from a gradual change to rapid progression (Payne, Winakor Farell Beck, 1992). Our goal is to study more specifically the Neoclassical era, because this period in France gave a newly and creative sense of style in both the arts and architecture that was very similar to those in ancient Rome and Greece (Craske, 1997). During this conflict it caused people to recognize social status and freedom of dress. This revolt caused civilians mainly middle class to rebel for equality and freedom among their society (Mezler, 1998). Furthermore, our group will analyze this decline of the pompous nobility as France is experiencing the onset of a revolution. Franklin was sure that having the crown, as a mother country, was not an ailment but rather a powerful helping hand for the colonies. In fact, as he and the colonies grew in independence and self sufficiency, Franklin and other leaders drew up a proposal to ensure their voice in legislation without being free of the power of the English. He states, By this plan the general government was to be administered by a president general, appointed and supported by the crown, a grand council was to be chosen by the representative assemblies (Franklin 102). However, the English rejected the idea and deemed it too democratic and although the proposal was not approved, Franklin still held some levels of patriotism towards Britain. Keeping in mind the high regard he held England it is no wonder he was more so inclined around the time of the Seven Years War to fight alongside the British. He was quick to come up with plans on defense and was efficient in acquiring what was needed in terms of money and defense. For some background information on these, I will start by summarizing the movie Crazy Stupid Love. Cal s wife leaves him to go be with another guy and all Cal can do is pout around at bars until a sly, young, and smooth talking man (Jacob) comes to Jacobs rescue to help him get his manhood back. These men want to know the true meaning of manhood and masculinity, perhaps the character and/or narrator are just the director/ author and what they really are seeking to understand is the true ideas or perception of manhood in society. What does the author show that the director does not? The author in hindsight shows a lot of ideas that can be perceived as cliché and he shows numerous accounts of anecdotes, whereas the director sticks to one line of the story and shows the evolution of Cal s masculinity, as it starts as him being a less masculine, manly man. Then towards the end or near scene twenty one, it is seen that he is a dominant male or alpha male. How are these ideas important to society and what group are these pieces geared towards? The ideas are important to the male gender because no matter what a man tells you they are always looking for the true ideas of manhood even if they don t say so themselves; thus, these pieces (movie and narrative) are aimed towards intriguing the males in society. This example alone shows how merely owning property and giving back to the local community was a priority in establishing respect among people of the Northampton area; his skin color did not matter. Another free black, Philip Mongum, was given usually respectable treatment for a crime of adultery with a white woman, Margery Tyer. Mongum was lucky enough to have been sold his freedom and managed to become a relatively prosperous farmer. However, before we can get to all the guts and glory we must first look at the causes that lead to this epic revolution to understand both sides of the coin. I will look at the background, battles, people and results of the Texas Revolution, as well as give my opinion of the Mexican government s innocence or blame in this battle. Austin s luck was about to turn around for him with this deal. On the other hand, he would not see his vision come to fruition, as he would perish on a return trip from Mexico City after being robbed. Before his untimely passing, his son Stephen F. Austin has attracted 272 colonists to Texas at this point; in addition to that he was also able to persuade the newly independent Mexican government to give empresarios (or land agents) 67,000 acres of land for every 200 families brought to Texas. That s approximately 335 acres a family which is unheard of. Mexico did agree to the term with two conditions pertaining to land ownership; first the settlers had to become Mexican citizens and secondly they had to covert to Roman Catholicism. Converting to Roman Catholicism proved to be a Puritan Problem , however by 1830 there were 16,000 Americans in Texas. Films such as John Carpenter s Halloween and Wes Craven s A Nightmare on Elm Street involve supernaturally based serial killers who commit murders in the name of revenge. The gory nature and explicit violence lead people to wonder why these monsters are created. Deep in the typical human subconscious, there are fears and impulses that can only be released through these films. When we watch horror films, we try our hardest to relate to the victims only to find out that we are more connected to the villain. Each time the killer slits the blonde cheerleaders throat or the demon drags the handsome football star to the greatest depths of hell, we feel as if it is well deserved. These scenes allow us to temporarily descend into the beautiful art of absurdity, which lies within our minds, without physically hurting another person. Stephen King states in his essay titled Why We Crave Horror Movies that The potential lyncher is in almost all of us (excluding saints, past and present; but then, most saints have been crazy in their own ways), and every now and then, he has to let loose to scream and roll around in the grass. King is implying that even the sanest man has a negative impulse stored deeply in his subconscious. Although a person may seem sane to the public, they are capable of committing the most heinous crimes known to humanity, and may even think ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
