Chrysanthemums Sexism
In his short story, Chrysanthemums , John Steinbeck characterizes Elisa as strong, passionate, and
slightly submissive. This story taking place in the era of the Great Depression shows the role of
women in this Californian farming society, and also the sentiments of women and how sexism
influenced their everyday life. Steinbeck uses those three adjectives to show just how the women of
the 30 s were treated and looked at by men and society.
In the story Chrysanthemums , Steinbeck introduces Elisa, the wife of a farmer in the Salinas Valley in
California, as a woman who is about her work and is very dedicated to her garden of chrysanthemums.
Women even today, although to a lower degree, are seen as the weaker sex and are supposed to be

Being a farmer s wife, and living in the middle of practically nowhere in California, her social activity
is limited and spends a lot of her time either working, alone, or waiting for her husband to finish
working in the fields himself. Her chrysanthemum garden provides a kind of outlet for her to have fun,
and also be involved in something besides work. Her passionate side is shown here, What s them
plants, ma am? The irritation and resistance melted from Elisa s face. Oh those are chrysanthemums...
Elisa s eyes grew alert and eager... Her eyes shone. She tore off her hat and shook out her beautiful
hair...Elisa ran excitedly along the geranium path... This long dialogue between the man and Elisa
show how excited she became when he even noticed her flowers. She gave the travelling business man
a mini lesson to relay to the woman who was supposedly interested in her own flower garden,
showing the obvious passion and elation that someone else might share a common interest as her. The
mentioning of her flower garden by the businessman was Steinbeck s way of characterizing Elisa as

Themes In Silver Sparrow
Tayari Jones s third novel, Silver Sparrow , also known as Tale of Secret Sisters is a novel about two
secret African American teenage sisters who have different relationships and lead very different lives.
The novel takes place in the 1980s in middle class Atlanta, Georgia. The two narrators, Dana Yarboro
and Chaurisse Witherspoon, go through the same process, but in very different directions, which is
maturation. The main secret in the novel is that Dana knows that she has a half sister, but Charisse
dose not. Dana says in the opening line of chapter one, My father, James Witherspoon is a bigamist.
(3). One of James s marriages is public and the other is very private. This is about finding the
similarities and the differences about Dana ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Their lives are the same, but their personalities and the truth are not. Finding out about different
personalities and versions of the truth, but with love and approval is the main reason for the sisters.
Dana and Charisse figure out why James is married to two women during James s younger years.
Dana is attractive and scholastic. Charisse is moderate and diligent. They both have relationships with
boys and reflect about their mothers. The main truth is Dana knows about James s other family, but
Charisse does not know. Dana and Charisse are well developed characters because of the same process
they go through the whole novel. They develop the different versions of the truth and their different
personalities. They can be realistic, because anybody can go through the same situation that Dana and
Charisse did. More people are having the same problem then what the sisters have. The sisters
reliability is both yes and no, because they find reliable information about their families, but Dana s is
about Gwen and Charisse s side of family and Charisse is about Laverne, but cannot find out about
Dana s family. The novel, Silver Sparrow , is not about sisterly love between mothers and daughters, it
is about two sisters and how they go through James s two married lives and it

Philosophical Principals Exemplified in The Truman Show...
In order to understand the moral fabric of the world, it is important to question any information that is
given to an individual, instead of blindly accepting the majority opinion and giving it full credibility
and validity based on other people s opinions. Plato s work, The Republic introduces the allegory of
the cave, which is metaphorical scenario that attempts to explain the importance of questioning norms
that may seem trivial. Plato illustrates a cave where bounded prisoners have lived all their lives in
seclusion, away from the outside world. In their immobile state, they can only look at the wall in front
of them which is illuminated by a small fire that has been going on behind them. The wall constantly
projects shadows of people ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In an interview, the antagonist claims that, We accept the reality with which we are presented. It is as
simple as that. The quote reflects many philosophical principles that are exemplified in both The
Truman Show and in the Allegory of the Cave.
To start off, the quote addresses the underlying ignorance that is evident in both Plato s and Weir s
works. Truman was living his entire life inside a metaphorical bubble. In many instances throughout
the movie, he ignored any suspicious act that threatened to obscure and interfere with his concept of
reality. For example, as Truman was walking out of his house, he noticed a studio light that suddenly
fell from the sky just as he was about to get in his car. Even though he questioned it at first, Truman
did not really bother investigating or looking into it, perhaps because he was subconsciously afraid of
what he would find. He chooses not to give the random incident any importance and gets in his car,
which further proves his underlying ignorance and reluctance to accept things that may not conform to
the norm. Shortly after, the producers of the show decide to make an excuse for the set malfunction,
and it is soon forgotten. Additionally, when Sylvia tells him upfront that his entire life is a lie, he
chooses to ignore it, until he himself starts to question his life. In the same way, in Plato s allegory of

Genetic Engineering Pros And Cons
Genetic Engineering Imagine a world where autism and downs syndrome are a thing of the past, and
where there is no shortage on food for anybody. Over the years mankind has developed and improved
technology to save more and more lives through the manipulation of the DNA that makes up all living
organisms. However, there are those who oppose this approach. Despite the risks and ethical concerns,
genetic engineering holds the potential to benefit humanity through both direct and indirect means. In
the past genetic engineering has been used on crops and humans alike with great success. A few years
ago there was a study that concluded that the biotech varieties increased the state s food and fiber
production by more than 10 million pounds, improved farm income by nearly $33 million, and
reduced pesticide used by 776,000 pounds annually (Hammerstrom 124). It is also worth noting that
most soybeans planted have been genetically engineered to resist the herbicide glyphosate (Roleff 11).
These modifications allow the soybeans to grow without danger of suffering destruction along with
weeds. The benefits that arose from previous use of genetic engineering expand beyond plant life as
well. Human lives have directly benefited through direct manipulation of the human genome as well.
An example of said benefits includes a case where gene therapy has been used to treat people with
Parkinson s disease (Roleff 43), as a result people s lives are dramatically improved as they no

Analysis Of Anti-Intellectualism Why We Hate The Smart...
In Grant Penrod s Anti Intellectualism: Why We Hate the Smart Kids essay, he argues that academic
achievements should be acknowledged equally just as an athletic achievement. Smart kids do not
receive the acknowledgment that they deserve since society has a negative look regarding smart kids.
Anti Intellectualism is hostile feelings towards intellectuals or intellectual thoughts. Society tends to
celebrate non intellectuals. The essay talks about smart kids being labeled social outcasts for the
reason that average kids have separated themselves from kids smarter than them. Smart kids feel as if
they should retain their intelligence just to fit in a judgmental world. Penrod s argument is effective
because his topic is still relevant to today s time and his use of examples that he incorporated
throughout the essay. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Penrod says, The result of anti intellectualism is a crushing disregard for the lives and achievements of
fellow human beings (Penrod 755). He is saying that through these anti intellectual practices, non
intellectuals seem to make sure to actively dismiss and disparage other individual s successes. Instead
of intellectuals being seen in a positive light, there is a disfavor for intellectuals that have become an
enormous part of society. Through Penrod s examination, he uses pathos to draw his audience in to
feel pity for the intellectuals. He makes the non intellectuals seem as if they are bullies picking on the
little guy. Penrod does this because he knows people will sympathize for the little guy. This makes his
argument effective because people will stand up and defend the little guys, the

What I have observed is that more attention and support is given when the patient has family members

members to have their privacy with the dying patient because is needed for the family to have that
precious moment with their loved one. However, the goal should be to ask family members if they

Adam and Eve
The term subordination is used frequently in the context of Trinitarian discussion, and has a clearly
defined usage. Theologians of the past have spoken in some sense of the subordination of the Son and
the Spirit within the boundaries of orthodoxy. However, how do we define it when it comes to women
and the church? The story of Adam and Eve is a great place to start. It brings with it all of the elements
of love, respect, partnership, and subordination all rolled together. When I first started to research this
paper I was under the misguided assumption that Adam and Eve went down together. As my paper
evolved you will see I learned a little bit differently. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Feminists argue that women have had to struggle to overcome the patriarchally structured churches.
While scholars in ecclesiastical history and related fields have undoubtedly been influenced by the
huge developments in both women s history and gender history in the larger arena of historical
scholarship, they have also been influenced by the questions raised by feminist theologians about the
viability of women remaining within the Churches and the outworking of Christian doctrine in the
women s lives.
Origins have therefore become important to some feminist scholars, especially those of faith, in a
rather distinctive way, as they have sought to bring to light and , in some cases, discover evidence for
the ways in which the Christian tradition has in at least some of its roots an equal place for women
(Shaw, 2004). The place of women and, indeed, men in the early Churches is a historical subject
which is seen to have relevance to individuals and the Churches today: while Churches are still
debating the validity of the ordination of women, and even the extent to which laywomen can
participate in the worship and ministry of the Church, it is not possible to shy away from this.
One of the great strengths of feminist scholarship has been to show that no scholar works from a
neutral starting point: the selection of topic and the evidence on which historians choose to focus are
shaped by their presuppositions. Ecclesiastical historians, influenced by their

Motifs In Dubliners
Two major motifs reappearing throughout the stories in Dubliners are the Messianic and Trinity
motifs. Joyce seems to have conceived Dubliners as his offering of a sacred book to the Irish Literary
Movement s attempts to spiritually arouse Ireland so that she might throw off the chains binding her to
her oppressor, England. Joyce s sacred book, however, does not flatter his countrymen by
strengthening their claims to be chosen of people of the modern world and not to be made in the
heroic image of the mythical historical Cuchulain; rather, it allows them to take a good look at
themselves in a nicely polished looking glass so that they might see the pretentiousness of their
claims. It is in great part through the two major motifs in

Cyber Security Policies and Defense Contractors Essay
Abstract Cyber security policies in the private sector have been a challenging issue for major defense
contractors, especially after recent attacks. As a result, the U.S. increased its strict enforcement against
these companies by justifying its intervention to improve cyber security. The government would like
to impose standards for companies who lack the proper protocol. Due to the revised and new
procedures, corporations are responding by rejecting any congressional intervention. This has caused
major friction in the relationship between the government and industry.

Comparing The Egyptians And The Mesopotamians Essay

Comparing the Egyptians and the Mesopotamians
Egyptians and the Mesopotamians were neolithic civilizations. They both grew crops and they both
relied on agriculture and had many rulers as time went on. We start at Egypt
In 3100 B.C and Mesopotamians at 5000 B.C (1). The Nile river was a key place for the start of the
Ancient Egyptian empire. Egyptians themselves were located near lower Egypt closeby the Nile Delta.
They then slowly moved up around upper egypt. With clear fertile and rich soil, agriculture was most
efficient and made the Ancient Egyptians very rich. Mesopotamians also had their own rivers known
as the Tigris and Euphrates Rivers which were rich in soil for farming. Mesopotamians were located
around Zagros Mountains and located inside the Persian gulf. Mesopotamians were Mediterraneans.
Egyptians and the Mesopotamians were very alike. Equal rights between men and women existed in
both of the empires societies. (2). This is important because the demographics of females were not
small in Ancient Egypt and Ancient Mesopotamia. Also, the religion of both empires were polytheistic
(Meaning many gods ) (2). Because the gods controlled Egypt and Mesopotamia through land and
power, people dedicated a large portion of their time to the gods. An example is that temples

Animal Testing Is Bad Science
Animals very rarely serve as models for the human body. Many people are brought up with the idea
that animal experimentation is necessary to insure the safety of humans, but in reality, these
experiments are creating only harm to animals. Animals have done nothing to deserve this backlash,
and by educating the public on the true unsuccessfulness of animal testing, the ethical side is forced
out in the open. The argument Animal Testing is Bad Science by the People for The Ethical Treatment
of Animals (PETA), argues that ethics dictate the value of each life, and that no life is overthrown by
another. This well formulated argument effectively integrates ethos, logos, powerful structure, and
robust premises to persuade the audience. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
All premises given are paired with explicit claims to express proposals such as, no experiment, no
matter how painful or trivial is prohibited and reactions to drugs vary enormously from species to
species (PETA, 2015). By following the line of logic, the claim is already known.
Ethos
Through the use of credible and reliable sources, PETA s argument builds validity. The author
recounts President Richard Nixon sign[ing] the Conquest of Cancer Act in 1971 (PETA, 2015) to
introduce that any money raised for cancer is not stopping hundreds of thousands dying from it each
year, and that animals contributed as test objects for these newfound drugs are not suddenly going to
cure cancer. Since an American president is mentioned, the audience will trust the upcoming evidence.
Furthermore, the author establishes ethos with well known acts and dependable doctors. Referencing
the 40 percent of all research funding from the U.S. National Institute of Health and organizations like
the American Board of Anesthesiologists [whom] even require physicians to complete simulation
training not animal laboratories (PETA 2015). The first reference represents the billions of dollars
swallowed by animal experimentation funds. Citing information from the U.S. Institute of Health
notes the continued spending, even with countless failed experiments. Ethos is held by the author due
to the credible sources incorporated within

Proponents Of Lawyer Dissatisfaction Discredit The...
C. Reasons to Question Survey Data
Proponents of lawyer dissatisfaction discredit the reliability of survey data in several ways. First,
proponents look at the procedural and substantive defects inherent to survey testing. Second,
proponents highlight related survey data such as the high levels of lawyer depression, alcoholism, and
suicide rates, to name a few which are complimentary to the view that many lawyers are dissatisfied.
Last, proponents and opponents alike, suggest that lawyers may be in denial or untruthful when
responding to satisfaction surveys. Therefore, proponents of lawyer dissatisfaction argue that survey
data is unreliable in measuring lawyer dissatisfaction. David Chambers, a law professor at the
University of Michigan Law School, argues that procedural and substantive defects inherent to survey
data make it an unreliable method for measuring lawyer dissatisfaction. First, most lawyers only place
themselves above the midpoint on a satisfaction scale, which is barely more positive than negative.
Second, surveys are conducted at a specific time and place, and therefore do not give a complete
analysis of satisfaction. Last is the fact that many lawyers do not respond to surveys; and this is likely
to be the most true among lawyers that are the least satisfied. As a result, the deference given to
positive claims about lawyer satisfaction are not grounded in reliable evidence. Positive survey data
on lawyer satisfaction cannot be reconciled with

Essay on Revolutionary Causes
A number of issues raised tensions between the colonies and Great Britain. The already tense
atmosphere was pushed even further with a number of taxes, acts and proclamations passed by Britain.
These numerous acts usually dealt with taxes and other issues that came into conflict with the
independent nature of the American colonists. No one issue was solely responsible for the eventual
American Revolution. Though all of these added together raised the resentment to a boiling point and
all contributed to the revolution. The harsh frontier life led to the independent and often stubborn
nature of the American Colonists. This development of this unique colonial personality conflicted
drastically with the norms of the British Empire. This ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Their fear led to more racial violence against the Native population. This conflict lasted from 1763
until a truce was at last finalized in 1766.
Britain instituted the Proclamation of 1763 in response to the Native American threat and the racial
tensions that permeated the colonial frontier. This proclamation attempted to appease and reassure the
natives who feared colonial expansion. The Proclamation of 1763 formed four additional colonies and
closed the frontier to further expansion. The colonies formed were Quebec, East and West Florida and
Grenada. The frontier was closed to settlement west of the Appalachian Mountains. An Indian reserve
was set aside west of the Appalachian Mountains and the natives were placed under protection of the
king. This act required settlers in the banned area to abandon their farms and land. British troops were
sent to enforce the Proclamation, as the crown had no faith that the colonist would obey. The colonists
were enraged by the Proclamation. The colonists had supported the French Indian War fully expecting
to receive more frontier land as the prize of war. The Proclamation seemed to steal the valuable land
from them, as the colonists saw the situation. Most colonists had no respect for the native tribes and
did not believe that the native tribes had any claim to the land and resented Britain handing over
valuable land to the natives. The colonists also

Form and Meaning of Happiness in Plato
An Analysis of the Form and Meaning of Happiness in Plato s Republic
I. Introduction
One of the central claims of Plato s Republic is that justice is not only desirable for its own sake, but
that it maximises the happiness of those who practice it. This paper examines Plato s arguments in
support of this thesis to determine (a) what he means by happiness, (b) to what extent it exists in his
proposed ideal state, and (c) whether this in any way substantiates his claims about the benefits of
justice. In particular, I will argue that there are two different conceptions of happiness at play in The
Republic, and two methods of achieving its highest form, namely the pursuit of justice and
philosophy, before arriving at a final definition of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, although this provides us with a way of categorising pleasure, it does not bring us any closer
to a theory of happiness, as there is no suggestion that it too has three different forms. From this I
conclude that Plato considers the notion of pleasure to be insufficient as an explanation of happiness,
and that these instead represent two different, but interrelated, concepts.
III. Happiness and Justice
In order to fully appreciate what Plato means by eudaimonia, we must instead consider the ways in
which it is supposedly achieved: namely, through the twin pursuits of justice and philosophy. The first
argument for this thesis is found at the end of Book 1 (352d 354a) where Socrates states that
everything has both a characteristic function and a virtue (or excellence) that enables it to perform its
function well. He goes on to say that living is the function of the soul, and justice its characteristic
excellence, from which it follows that the just man lives well and is therefore happy. This is a classic
piece of Socratic wordplay that relies upon a disputed, question begging premise (justice being the
virtue of the soul), two unsubstantiated assumptions (that the soul has both a function and an
excellence) and equivocation ( to live well is the same as to be happy ), all of which renders it

The Role of Effective Leadership
Leadership cannot be conducted alone needs partnering, and partnering is one of the important key
point for leaders and followers to transcend interests and facilitate the public good. Leadership is
about principles and principles form a foundation that people anchor themselves with passion to
initiate action and driven an effort or organization toward a common vision. Leaders should consider a
wide range of policy goals; they also should consider a wide range of options to achieve the goals.
When making decisions a leader quickly learns that one size does not fit all. Rules are leaders tools
and they can be excellent tools for achieving a variety of important goals.
Leadership in teacher education and the university in general has been observed in recent years.
Universities and their component schools are not always saw it as a common good for a couple of
reasons. Leadership is one necessary ingredient to reconcile these issues. Leadership is fundamentally
necessary for the teacher education and university to gain the confidence of the community they serve,
by actively working toward a shared vision aimed at the common good. This work requires leaders
who are willing and able to engage societal issues in the context of the overall mission of the school
and the university. Additionally, this work requires that the university understand both community
needs and the capacity of the community to help address its own needs with the assistance of the
university, its schools,

The Supreme Court is the final judge of cases and interprets the constitution but it remains limited in
power due to checks by the other two branches of government. The Supreme Court has eight

President elect, Donald Trump, is a republican and is likely to replace Antonin Scalia with someone

Essay On African American Slave Trade
Moreover, there are a few more countries which have involved in the slave trade like Africa, Britain,
Portugal and Spain. As for Britain, they were one of the major player in doing trading. British had
many ships who were mainly carried 2,6000 000 slaves from the African s in the 18th century to the
Caribbean sea and America s in order for them to trade those goods in a different parts of their cities in
the country. For example, one of their cities like London who owned those slaves ports back in the

The Importance Of Vaccination
Vaccination is necessary to prevent human health from viruses and bacterias around us. There was
some disease that once killed or injured thousand of people, but had been eliminated because of the
existing of vaccines. Polio is a great example of that. This disease had been a most feared disease, was
the cause of deaths of many people. But thanks to vaccines, right now there isn t any report about
Polio in United States. Vaccination is a must for all of people in order to prevent yourself stay away
from disease, illness, and death.
Flu shot is an example of how vaccination could help the body, especially the immune systems. This
system is a network of cells, organs, and tissues that work together to defends the body from
infectious, and the attacks of outside invaders. Also it helps the healing process in case harm occurs.
All of these are to maintain the homeostasis. When the body is infected by a virus, the body need to
have a lot of energy than usual to fight off the invaders. This can lead to fever, which slow down
bacteria and viruses, make it longer for the immune cells B and T lymphocytes to find and get rid of
the invaders. B cells are not directly kills the cell, instead they are producing antibodies that can hijack
invaders as they travel in the blood. Antibodies then act as the flag whenever there is an infected cell
so T cells can recognize and attack it. T cells on the other hand, may kill the targeted cell that might
become infected by the invader or cancerous

Mental Illness In Gran Torino
Our experiences shape who we are. Gran Torino by Clint Eastwood is a moving film that depicts
topics such as racism, mental illness and sacrifice in a modern setting without sugarcoating. In the
film, korean war veteran and curmudgeon Walt Kowalski becomes an unexpected hero and father
figure to nextdoor neighbour Thao Lor. Gran Torino begins in a funeral home, where protagonist Walt
is mourning the death of his spouse, grimacing at the reality of being widowed and the disrespect of
his children and their families. After the death of his wife, Mr. Kowalski does little other than drink his
weight in beer daily and make critical comments towards his neighbours and surrounding community.
Besides the company of his yellow labrador Daisy, Walt is alone with his thoughts. Because Walt
acquired racism through experience where the race he discriminates was an enemy in reality, it is not
truly one of his traits and can be undone as he is human and is able to overcome his mental illness,
which is the reasoning for his intolerance. Initially, Walt is racist because he has been trained not to
trust koreans and will not be bothered to distinguish the difference between who he had fought and his
neighbours. He struggles to realize that he is no longer at war and mentally is unable to move on from
that state of mind. In a scene following Walt s first threat towards the gang, it is evidently identified
that he is still living in the past through an interaction between him and Father

Chicken Salad Essay
Can you freeze chicken salad? Even one with Mayonnaise?
Chicken salad is a must have dish at every party; whether it s breakfast, lunch, dinner, tea time, or any
other meal, chicken salad is bound to make an appearance in one form or another. So, it makes sense
that, instead of making this salad every time, you just make a batch and freeze it so you can use it
whenever you want.
Furthermore, being able to freeze chicken salad means you don t have to cram your refrigerator full
every time you have a leftover chicken salad. But the main question here is can you freeze chicken
salad at all? And will freezing it affect its taste? Fortunately, we have the answers to your questions,
and they are good.
Freezing chicken Salad; to do or not to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is because dressings like mayonnaise, yogurt, or any other dairy based dressing tend to split when
frozen. This means that they release a lot of water, which will soak your salad and destroy its flavor, or
let bacteria grow in it which, of course, will make the salad inedible.
However, if you ve used a little amount of mayonnaise in your salad, you can freeze it easily as it won
t release as much water. Once thawed, you can simply drain that water and freshen your salad up by
adding a little bit of cornstarch in it. You can also add some fresh mayonnaise or any other dressing to
improve the taste of the salad.
A tip to keep in mind is to use store bought mayonnaise when making chicken salad as it is more
suitable for freezing for a longer period of time.
Conclusion
Freezing chicken salad isn t much of a hassle. In fact, it can help you enjoy your favorite dish anytime.
Also, thawed chicken salad makes for a wonderful condiment to many other dishes. Freezing chicken
salad is, therefore, a very good idea.

Crop Rotation Kierkegaard Analysis
In the essay Crop Rotation from his book Either/Or, Søren Kierkegaard discusses boredom, which he
considers to be a root of all evil. He argues that all men are boring and that we have been since the
creation of man. It is what drove so much of human history and continues to drive us today.
Kierkegaard then goes a step further and asserts that there are two types of boring people. The first is
someone who bores others, exemplified in the plebeians and the mass, and the second is someone who
bores himself, the elect and the nobility. The people that don t bore themselves, he argues, are people
who are constantly busy, and that is why they are so boring. The other type, which he calls the
superior ones, amuse others but bore themselves. The more profoundly they bore themselves, the more

Forgetting is an art that few people use properly. Forgetting is the shears with which one clips away

distractions from effective crop rotation still exist. Kierkegaard writes that one must be on one s guard

because they get boring. After falling in love, lovers have no direction to go but down, since marriage

Wolves need to be protected by the government. As a population they have finally come back. Having

Examples Of Conflict In Remember The Titans
An important conflict in the 2000 film, Remember the Titans directed by Boaz Yakin, is the dispute
between football captains Gerry Bertier and Julius Campbell. The conflict is caused by a prejudice
towards each other s race as Gerry is raised in a white, racist family while Julius is black and a victim
of prejudice within the community.Because of this they are both repulsed at the thought of having to
share a room with one another. This conflict is important because despite the discord Gerry and Julius
experience throughout the film, they become best friends and work together to win the state
championship. Their resulting friendship displays what can happen as a result of overcoming
generational racism. At first, Gerry is disgusted at the thought of having to play in an integrated team
saying, I don t want to play with any of these black animals . At the training camp, Gerry and Julius

Similarities Between David And Goliath
Many of us are familiar with the narrative of David and Goliath David, the youngest son of Jesse of
Bethlehem, is a shepherd boy, whom God anoints as king over Israel.
One day, Israel is challenged to battle by the Philistines. David, the young shepherd boy, volunteers to
fight Goliath, the Philistine champion. Though the Israelite army is quivering in fear, David is
confident of emerging victorious, with the aid of five smooth stones and he does, with God s help.
Thus, the narrative is portrayed as an inspirational account for anyone whose odds are against them:
by holding fast to faith in God, they triumph in the end. Or if someone is facing a difficult situation,
these are a list of things to note in order to overcome their difficulties. ... Show more content on

When God saves by a tiny shepherd boy, it is clear that the battle is the Lord s.
What does this mean for us today?
Looking to the gospel narrative in the New Testament we see that David is a foreshadow of a greater
King Jesus. Conversely, Goliath foreshadows God s greater enemy of sin and Satan. Hence as Christ s
people today, our victory in overcoming sin depends not on our strength, willingness or faithfulness
but that of Jesus, our Messiah, Christ, and Champion.
Who, then, are we in this narrative?
We re not David nor Goliath we re the feeble, cowardly Israelites cowering in fear. We have no
capability to fight sin on our own strength and our human efforts have no significance in this battle
anyway.
Yet, this is good news for us when we were unable to fight for ourselves, Jesus defeated the enemy on
our behalf. In the same way that David s victory is Israel s triumph, Jesus has conquered the grip of
Satan and sin on the Cross He has fought and gained the victory over death and the judgment of God

therefore, if Kumon is indeed determined to grow market share outside of the Asian American culture
it will be important to understand what works to motivate and encourage self discipline here in the

be considered with the consultant as this is an area where commitment is hard to maintain due to
different lifestyles, whereby both parents often work long hours outside the home and will have a

The Berlin Blockade Is The First Major International...
The Berlin Blockade is said to be the first major international crises of the Cold War. The basis of this
blockade was to cut of Western Allies railway, road, and canal access to the eastern side of the city.
The Soviets proposed an offer to the west, in which they would drop the blockade, if newly introduced
Deutschmark currency was withdrawn from West Berlin. But seeing as though if they did agree, the
German society would only crumble even further, so the westerners rejected the offer. The idea of the
an airlift came to mind of the western allies, as they wanted aid Berlin citizens and abolish the Soviet
authority. This idea was inspired by the World War II American airlift from India, over the Himalayas,
to China The Hump , to resupply the Chinese war effort. Planning and investigating were soon done
by the three nations in an attempt to figure out and carry out a large scale solution.
On November 30th, 1945, it was announced that there would be 23 mile wide air corridors providing
passage to Berlin. Since the use of unarmed aircraft would be the transport method, the Soviets could
not accuse that the cargo aircraft were a military threat, like if they were tanks or trucks. Being faced
with non lethal aircraft refusing to turn around, the only way to keep the blockade impassable would
be to shoot them down. The Soviets were forcibly put in a position of either shooting down unarmed
humanitarian aircraft, which in turn would break their own agreements, or back down

Film Analysis Of Rear Window Directed By Alfred Hitchcock
Reality is ultimately dependent upon what is seen and how it gets seen. Rear Window, directed by the
renowned Alfred Hitchcock, centers around a temporarily wheelchair bound photographer and his
beautiful, affluent girlfriend, who believe that one of his neighbors has murdered their wife. With the
help of his caretaker and a friend of his, who is a detective, they attempt to prove that the murder did
indeed take place. L.B Jeff Jefferies, played by James Stewart, is the hindered photographer, who is
confined to his apartment. To kill time, Jeff develops the diseased habit of watching his neighbors
through his professional grade camera and lens. His girlfriend, Lisa Carol Fremont, played by Grace
Kelly, is heavily involved in the fashion industry and is well known for her elegance. However, she
deeply in love with Jeff and desperately wants to be a part of his life, even if that means she has to
embark on the unpleasant, and often life threatening, adventures that he goes on for his work. The
neighbor, Lars Thorwald, played by Raymond Burr, is a strained salesman, whose wife is a bed ridden
invalid. He tries to tend to her needs, but it never seems to be satisfactory to her. One night he decides
that he is done nursing her, so he murders her. The audience is brought into a cross courtyard game of
cat and mouse, through the unique perspective of Jeff and his camera lens, and also must deal with the

Id Ego And Superego In Mama Marema

of life. The id is the pleasure principle and is present from birth. It s drive is toward immediate
gratification. Its sources of energy are Eros and Thanatos. Eros is life instinct and Thanatos is death
instinct, sexual energy, and motivation. The ego mediates the demands of the id without going against
the restraints that the superego has on it. The ego follows the reality principle which is being able to
postpone gratification in accordance with reality. It can also repress desires that cannot be met in an
acceptable manner.

Clinical Article Summary
This article researched patients with swallowing functions over the first six months after acute stroke.
They identify the important clinical factors that associated with an increased risk of swallowing
dysfunctions and complications. The studies relied on bedside clinical examinations to diagnose
dysphagia and assessed swallowing function for two weeks after the patient s stroke. After a patient
has an acute stroke, swallowing abnormalities are a common function depending on the timing of
assessment, diagnostic methods, and criteria. If patients aren t taken care of right away with a diet,
nutrition, and hydration have the potential to cause them serious complications. Aspiration is a
common problem for patients after a stroke, and it occurs when a patient swallowing food or liquids
enters their airway and lungs. After a stroke, a patient could have silent aspiration, which food and
liquids enter the airways and lungs without the patients knowing. Reasons, why some stroke patients

In John Holt s very interesting book How Children Fail (1966 ) he poses the concept that although
children love learning they don t like being thought. He argues children thought in traditional ways
become unintelligent (p56). They strive for teacher approval by focusing importance on getting the
right answer; mechanisms such as reflecting and having an enquiring mind are supressed. Holts (1966)
suggests children had to teach him before he could begin to teach them (p.22), he emphasises the
importance of teachers observing, listening, and encouraging creative ways of being. This philosophy
sits very comfortably with the Montessori Method of teaching. As mentioned earlier directors must be
a guide observing children in their work. The new Primary School Curriculum calls for this approach
in that it promotes the development of children s capacity for creative expression and response

Those who cannot handle the campaign for the primary election, would not be cut out for presidency.
A last advantage to the primary elections is that it gives a chance to candidates that would not
otherwise be in the running for presidential candidacy. What may be an unconventional
democrat/liberal who is unpopular within the party may prove a hit with the electorate and gain a lot
of votes. The party will get the candidate who is most electable out of the options, even if this is not
necessarily someone entirely in line with party ideology. Jimmy Carter, for example, was not widely
known until the 1976 primaries when his distance from DC politics played to his advantage, as it
meant that he was also distanced from the recent Watergate Scandal.
This could also be seen as a disadvantage to the primary election, as it prevents the parties from
expressing their wishes towards who the candidate should be, and thus an unworthy candidate may be
chosen. Primaries could lead to someone with little experience of governance, or someone who is not
representing the party ideal being put forward as candidate and the state parties could have no
influence over this.
Another disadvantage to the primary election is the pure monetary cost of the campaign. Candidates

Breakdown of the Mortgage Supply Chain
Executive Summary
This report reviews the current financial crisis by looking at the lack of quality management through
the mortgage supply chain. The crisis represents a failure of proper regulation and visibility
throughout the mortgage supply chain. Only careful management of these quality issues through all
financial institutions and through all aspects of the financial supply chain will remedy the past issues.
This is a difficult task but not impossible. This report will discuss each section of the mortgage supply
chain and how the weaknesses in the integration caused the financial crisis. Proposed legislation will
be explained in detail. Several recommendations will be proposed, both short term and long term,
which I believe ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As a result, credit underwriting tightened nationwide as the capital of many banks declined sharply.
Residential Mortgage Debt
Figure 1 shows the Outstanding First Lien Residential Mortgage Debt in all sectors as of 2007. The
Agency Mortgage Backed Securities represent the high credit, low loan to value, safe loans
administered by governmental agencies such as; Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac and Ginnie Mae. The right
side of the exhibit shows the Non Agency Backed Securities which make up three areas of mortgage
where the government is not willing to lend. Jumbo loans consist of those loans which exceed the
maximum allowed loan limits which differ from state to state. This level is set forth by the
government and is any loan $417,000 or greater in North Carolina. The Alt A loans are intended for
those borrowers who do not fit in the conforming guidelines but who have a better credit rating and
history than a sub prime borrower. Alt A loans would consist of loans for investment properties,
second homes, or high loan to values for borrowers who would otherwise be considered conforming.
The third section of this exhibit makes up the sub prime borrowers who have less than stellar credit
but are willing to pay a higher down payment and a higher rate to get a mortgage loan. As you can see,
the sub prime sector makes up the majority of the non agency loans. Also note that most of

The Outsiders And The Outsiders Similarities
How can two people who are completely different share similarities? Dally and Johnny, two greasers
from S. E. Hinton s The Outsiders, have distinct differences as well as similarities. They are similar
because they both know what it is like to have abusive and neglectful parents. Also, they both care
about each other in similar ways. Dally and Johnny are completely different when it comes to the law.
Dally is the least law abiding in the gang, where as Johnny is the most. Dally and Johnny are
dissimilar as they die. Dally dies a hoodlum, which is vast difference from how Johnny dies a hero.
Therefor, Dally and Johnny have a lot in common, but also have great differences. Dally and Johnny
are similar in a way of knowing what it is like to have abusive and neglectful parents. Dally has no
love coming from his home, which is why he does some reckless things. The loveless life he has at
home is cause of his inability to love others. His parents do not interact with him and Dally states, my
old man don t give a hang whether I m in jail or dead in a car wreck or drunk in the gutter (88). Dally
s parents do not give him the attention he needs and they neglect him to a world where he has made
himself closed off and tough. Similarly to how Johnny faces abuse and neglect when it comes to his
parents. Like Dally, letting people in is hard for Johnny because of his family. Johnny s home life is
terrible and His father was always beating him up,

  • 2. Chrysanthemums Sexism In his short story, Chrysanthemums , John Steinbeck characterizes Elisa as strong, passionate, and slightly submissive. This story taking place in the era of the Great Depression shows the role of women in this Californian farming society, and also the sentiments of women and how sexism influenced their everyday life. Steinbeck uses those three adjectives to show just how the women of the 30 s were treated and looked at by men and society. In the story Chrysanthemums , Steinbeck introduces Elisa, the wife of a farmer in the Salinas Valley in California, as a woman who is about her work and is very dedicated to her garden of chrysanthemums. Women even today, although to a lower degree, are seen as the weaker sex and are supposed to be homemakers ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Being a farmer s wife, and living in the middle of practically nowhere in California, her social activity is limited and spends a lot of her time either working, alone, or waiting for her husband to finish working in the fields himself. Her chrysanthemum garden provides a kind of outlet for her to have fun, and also be involved in something besides work. Her passionate side is shown here, What s them plants, ma am? The irritation and resistance melted from Elisa s face. Oh those are chrysanthemums... Elisa s eyes grew alert and eager... Her eyes shone. She tore off her hat and shook out her beautiful hair...Elisa ran excitedly along the geranium path... This long dialogue between the man and Elisa show how excited she became when he even noticed her flowers. She gave the travelling business man a mini lesson to relay to the woman who was supposedly interested in her own flower garden, showing the obvious passion and elation that someone else might share a common interest as her. • 4. Philosophical Principals Exemplified in The Truman Show... In order to understand the moral fabric of the world, it is important to question any information that is given to an individual, instead of blindly accepting the majority opinion and giving it full credibility and validity based on other people s opinions. Plato s work, The Republic introduces the allegory of the cave, which is metaphorical scenario that attempts to explain the importance of questioning norms that may seem trivial. Plato illustrates a cave where bounded prisoners have lived all their lives in seclusion, away from the outside world. In their immobile state, they can only look at the wall in front of them which is illuminated by a small fire that has been going on behind them. The wall constantly projects shadows of people ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In an interview, the antagonist claims that, We accept the reality with which we are presented. It is as simple as that. The quote reflects many philosophical principles that are exemplified in both The Truman Show and in the Allegory of the Cave. To start off, the quote addresses the underlying ignorance that is evident in both Plato s and Weir s works. Truman was living his entire life inside a metaphorical bubble. In many instances throughout the movie, he ignored any suspicious act that threatened to obscure and interfere with his concept of reality. For example, as Truman was walking out of his house, he noticed a studio light that suddenly fell from the sky just as he was about to get in his car. Even though he questioned it at first, Truman did not really bother investigating or looking into it, perhaps because he was subconsciously afraid of what he would find. He chooses not to give the random incident any importance and gets in his car, which further proves his underlying ignorance and reluctance to accept things that may not conform to the norm. Shortly after, the producers of the show decide to make an excuse for the set malfunction, and it is soon forgotten. Additionally, when Sylvia tells him upfront that his entire life is a lie, he chooses to ignore it, until he himself starts to question his life. In the same way, in Plato s allegory of the ... • 5. Genetic Engineering Pros And Cons Genetic Engineering Imagine a world where autism and downs syndrome are a thing of the past, and where there is no shortage on food for anybody. Over the years mankind has developed and improved technology to save more and more lives through the manipulation of the DNA that makes up all living organisms. However, there are those who oppose this approach. Despite the risks and ethical concerns, genetic engineering holds the potential to benefit humanity through both direct and indirect means. In the past genetic engineering has been used on crops and humans alike with great success. A few years ago there was a study that concluded that the biotech varieties increased the state s food and fiber production by more than 10 million pounds, improved farm income by nearly $33 million, and reduced pesticide used by 776,000 pounds annually (Hammerstrom 124). It is also worth noting that most soybeans planted have been genetically engineered to resist the herbicide glyphosate (Roleff 11). These modifications allow the soybeans to grow without danger of suffering destruction along with weeds. The benefits that arose from previous use of genetic engineering expand beyond plant life as well. Human lives have directly benefited through direct manipulation of the human genome as well. An example of said benefits includes a case where gene therapy has been used to treat people with Parkinson s disease (Roleff 43), as a result people s lives are dramatically improved as they no ... • 6. Analysis Of Anti-Intellectualism Why We Hate The Smart... In Grant Penrod s Anti Intellectualism: Why We Hate the Smart Kids essay, he argues that academic achievements should be acknowledged equally just as an athletic achievement. Smart kids do not receive the acknowledgment that they deserve since society has a negative look regarding smart kids. Anti Intellectualism is hostile feelings towards intellectuals or intellectual thoughts. Society tends to celebrate non intellectuals. The essay talks about smart kids being labeled social outcasts for the reason that average kids have separated themselves from kids smarter than them. Smart kids feel as if they should retain their intelligence just to fit in a judgmental world. Instead of intellectuals being seen in a positive light, there is a disfavor for intellectuals that have become an enormous part of society. Through Penrod s examination, he uses pathos to draw his audience in to feel pity for the intellectuals. He makes the non intellectuals seem as if they are bullies picking on the little guy. Adam and Eve Essay 3 Adam and Eve Marcie Smith REL 250 Paxton Reed November 16, 2008 Adam and Eve The term subordination is used frequently in the context of Trinitarian discussion, and has a clearly defined usage. Theologians of the past have spoken in some sense of the subordination of the Son and the Spirit within the boundaries of orthodoxy. However, how do we define it when it comes to women and the church? The story of Adam and Eve is a great place to start. It brings with it all of the elements of love, respect, partnership, and subordination all rolled together. When I first started to research this paper I was under the misguided assumption that Adam and Eve went down together. As my paper evolved you will see I learned a little bit differently. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Feminists argue that women have had to struggle to overcome the patriarchally structured churches. While scholars in ecclesiastical history and related fields have undoubtedly been influenced by the huge developments in both women s history and gender history in the larger arena of historical scholarship, they have also been influenced by the questions raised by feminist theologians about the viability of women remaining within the Churches and the outworking of Christian doctrine in the women s lives. Origins have therefore become important to some feminist scholars, especially those of faith, in a rather distinctive way, as they have sought to bring to light and , in some cases, discover evidence for the ways in which the Christian tradition has in at least some of its roots an equal place for women (Shaw, 2004). The place of women and, indeed, men in the early Churches is a historical subject which is seen to have relevance to individuals and the Churches today: while Churches are still debating the validity of the ordination of women, and even the extent to which laywomen can participate in the worship and ministry of the Church, it is not possible to shy away from this. One of the great strengths of feminist scholarship has been to show that no scholar works from a neutral starting point: the selection of topic and the evidence on which historians choose to focus are shaped by their presuppositions. Ecclesiastical historians, influenced by their ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Joyce seems to have conceived Dubliners as his offering of a sacred book to the Irish Literary Movement s attempts to spiritually arouse Ireland so that she might throw off the chains binding her to her oppressor, England. Joyce s sacred book, however, does not flatter his countrymen by strengthening their claims to be chosen of people of the modern world and not to be made in the heroic image of the mythical historical Cuchulain; rather, it allows them to take a good look at themselves in a nicely polished looking glass so that they might see the pretentiousness of their claims. Comparing The Egyptians And The Mesopotamians Essay Issa Hawa Hawa 1 Teacher Ms. Smith Pre AP World History Oct 6, 2016 Comparing the Egyptians and the Mesopotamians Egyptians and the Mesopotamians were neolithic civilizations. They both grew crops and they both relied on agriculture and had many rulers as time went on. We start at Egypt In 3100 B.C and Mesopotamians at 5000 B.C (1). The Nile river was a key place for the start of the Ancient Egyptian empire. Egyptians themselves were located near lower Egypt closeby the Nile Delta. They then slowly moved up around upper egypt. With clear fertile and rich soil, agriculture was most efficient and made the Ancient Egyptians very rich. Mesopotamians also had their own rivers known as the Tigris and Euphrates Rivers which were rich in soil for farming. Mesopotamians were located around Zagros Mountains and located inside the Persian gulf. Mesopotamians were Mediterraneans. Egyptians and the Mesopotamians were very alike. Equal rights between men and women existed in both of the empires societies. (2). This is important because the demographics of females were not small in Ancient Egypt and Ancient Mesopotamia. Also, the religion of both empires were polytheistic (Meaning many gods ) (2). Because the gods controlled Egypt and Mesopotamia through land and power, people dedicated a large portion of their time to the gods. An example is that temples ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 18. Proponents Of Lawyer Dissatisfaction Discredit The... C. Reasons to Question Survey Data Proponents of lawyer dissatisfaction discredit the reliability of survey data in several ways. First, proponents look at the procedural and substantive defects inherent to survey testing. Second, proponents highlight related survey data such as the high levels of lawyer depression, alcoholism, and suicide rates, to name a few which are complimentary to the view that many lawyers are dissatisfied. Last, proponents and opponents alike, suggest that lawyers may be in denial or untruthful when responding to satisfaction surveys. Therefore, proponents of lawyer dissatisfaction argue that survey data is unreliable in measuring lawyer dissatisfaction. David Chambers, a law professor at the University of Michigan Law School, argues that procedural and substantive defects inherent to survey data make it an unreliable method for measuring lawyer dissatisfaction. First, most lawyers only place themselves above the midpoint on a satisfaction scale, which is barely more positive than negative. Second, surveys are conducted at a specific time and place, and therefore do not give a complete analysis of satisfaction. Last is the fact that many lawyers do not respond to surveys; and this is likely to be the most true among lawyers that are the least satisfied. As a result, the deference given to positive claims about lawyer satisfaction are not grounded in reliable evidence. Positive survey data on lawyer satisfaction cannot be reconciled with ... The already tense atmosphere was pushed even further with a number of taxes, acts and proclamations passed by Britain. No one issue was solely responsible for the eventual American Revolution. Though all of these added together raised the resentment to a boiling point and all contributed to the revolution. This proclamation attempted to appease and reassure the natives who feared colonial expansion. The Proclamation of 1763 formed four additional colonies and closed the frontier to further expansion. The colonies formed were Quebec, East and West Florida and Grenada. The frontier was closed to settlement west of the Appalachian Mountains. An Indian reserve was set aside west of the Appalachian Mountains and the natives were placed under protection of the king. This act required settlers in the banned area to abandon their farms and land. British troops were sent to enforce the Proclamation, as the crown had no faith that the colonist would obey. The colonists were enraged by the Proclamation. The colonists had supported the French Indian War fully expecting to receive more frontier land as the prize of war. Introduction One of the central claims of Plato s Republic is that justice is not only desirable for its own sake, but that it maximises the happiness of those who practice it. This paper examines Plato s arguments in support of this thesis to determine (a) what he means by happiness, (b) to what extent it exists in his proposed ideal state, and (c) whether this in any way substantiates his claims about the benefits of justice. In particular, I will argue that there are two different conceptions of happiness at play in The Republic, and two methods of achieving its highest form, namely the pursuit of justice and philosophy, before arriving at a final definition of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, although this provides us with a way of categorising pleasure, it does not bring us any closer to a theory of happiness, as there is no suggestion that it too has three different forms. From this I conclude that Plato considers the notion of pleasure to be insufficient as an explanation of happiness, and that these instead represent two different, but interrelated, concepts. III. Happiness and Justice In order to fully appreciate what Plato means by eudaimonia, we must instead consider the ways in which it is supposedly achieved: namely, through the twin pursuits of justice and philosophy. The first argument for this thesis is found at the end of Book 1 (352d 354a) where Socrates states that everything has both a characteristic function and a virtue (or excellence) that enables it to perform its function well. He goes on to say that living is the function of the soul, and justice its characteristic excellence, from which it follows that the just man lives well and is therefore happy. This is a classic piece of Socratic wordplay that relies upon a disputed, question begging premise (justice being the virtue of the soul), two unsubstantiated assumptions (that the soul has both a function and an excellence) and equivocation ( to live well is the same as to be happy ), all of which renders it ... Looking to the gospel narrative in the New Testament we see that David is a foreshadow of a greater King Jesus. Conversely, Goliath foreshadows God s greater enemy of sin and Satan. Hence as Christ s people today, our victory in overcoming sin depends not on our strength, willingness or faithfulness but that of Jesus, our Messiah, Christ, and Champion. Who, then, are we in this narrative? We re not David nor Goliath we re the feeble, cowardly Israelites cowering in fear. It replaced the old system of decisions being made in smoke filled rooms where party bosses were all powerful and made the decision. The alternative to the primary election is the caucus, which is more similar to the original version of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It weeds out the weak candidates, who will lose momentum along the way and fall out of the race. Those who cannot handle the campaign for the primary election, would not be cut out for presidency. A last advantage to the primary elections is that it gives a chance to candidates that would not otherwise be in the running for presidential candidacy. What may be an unconventional democrat/liberal who is unpopular within the party may prove a hit with the electorate and gain a lot of votes. The party will get the candidate who is most electable out of the options, even if this is not necessarily someone entirely in line with party ideology. Jimmy Carter, for example, was not widely known until the 1976 primaries when his distance from DC politics played to his advantage, as it meant that he was also distanced from the recent Watergate Scandal. This could also be seen as a disadvantage to the primary election, as it prevents the parties from expressing their wishes towards who the candidate should be, and thus an unworthy candidate may be chosen. Primaries could lead to someone with little experience of governance, or someone who is not representing the party ideal being put forward as candidate and the state parties could have no influence over this. Another disadvantage to the primary election is the pure monetary cost of the campaign. Candidates ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 43. Breakdown of the Mortgage Supply Chain Executive Summary This report reviews the current financial crisis by looking at the lack of quality management through the mortgage supply chain. The crisis represents a failure of proper regulation and visibility throughout the mortgage supply chain. Only careful management of these quality issues through all financial institutions and through all aspects of the financial supply chain will remedy the past issues. This is a difficult task but not impossible. This report will discuss each section of the mortgage supply chain and how the weaknesses in the integration caused the financial crisis. Proposed legislation will be explained in detail. Several recommendations will be proposed, both short term and long term, which I believe ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Jumbo loans consist of those loans which exceed the maximum allowed loan limits which differ from state to state. This level is set forth by the government and is any loan $417,000 or greater in North Carolina. The Alt A loans are intended for those borrowers who do not fit in the conforming guidelines but who have a better credit rating and history than a sub prime borrower. Alt A loans would consist of loans for investment properties, second homes, or high loan to values for borrowers who would otherwise be considered conforming. The third section of this exhibit makes up the sub prime borrowers who have less than stellar credit but are willing to pay a higher down payment and a higher rate to get a mortgage loan. As you can see, the sub prime sector makes up the majority of the non agency loans. Also note that most of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 44. The Outsiders And The Outsiders Similarities How can two people who are completely different share similarities? Dally and Johnny, two greasers from S. E. Hinton s The Outsiders, have distinct differences as well as similarities. They are similar because they both know what it is like to have abusive and neglectful parents. Also, they both care about each other in similar ways. Dally and Johnny are completely different when it comes to the law. Dally is the least law abiding in the gang, where as Johnny is the most. Dally and Johnny are dissimilar as they die. Dally dies a hoodlum, which is vast difference from how Johnny dies a hero. Therefor, Dally and Johnny have a lot in common, but also have great differences. Dally and Johnny are similar in a way of knowing what it is like to have abusive and neglectful parents. Dally has no love coming from his home, which is why he does some reckless things. The loveless life he has at home is cause of his inability to love others. His parents do not interact with him and Dally states, my old man don t give a hang whether I m in jail or dead in a car wreck or drunk in the gutter (88). Dally s parents do not give him the attention he needs and they neglect him to a world where he has made himself closed off and tough. Similarly to how Johnny faces abuse and neglect when it comes to his parents. Like Dally, letting people in is hard for Johnny because of his family. Johnny s home life is terrible and His father was always beating him up, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
