The Problem Of Stop And Searches
In addition, as Foucault (1983, in Kelly, 2000, p.466) believed, not everything is bad but everything is
dangerous... if everything is dangerous then we always have something to do and since youth at risk
are considered particularly dangerous, adults have taken it upon themselves to keep these dangerous
risks at a minimum by keeping young people under surveillance in any way possible. The method of
stop and searches has unfortunately resulted in more disputes and complaint from the youth of the
community targeted at constables rather than coalition between the two (Kelly, 2000). As Kelly (2000)
points out, the idea of youth at risk surrounds all activities and behaviour involving young people and
Ogden and Germinario (1988 in Kelly, 2000) go a step further and claim all children are at times
students at risk . Unfortunately, this mentality about young people has not only increased surveillance
around them, but it has, as a result, increased the conflict between young people and adults (Kelly,
2000).
However, when actual students were interviewed about their personal experiences with police,
majority understood the need for the stop and search policy. Russell, Boakye and Hackett (2013)
found that most students were comfortable with the policy being put into practice in certain areas as
this form of overt surveillance reduced the levels of crime in rogue neighbourhoods. Students
welcomed the police presence as it made them feel safer and they admitted that the stop and

Summary Of The Symposium
Lost Objectivity in the Symposium The Symposium was written by Plato to illustrate a discussion
between a group of friends. Additionally, the story presents numerous arguments that focus on the god
Love and its merits. To pass time while they drink, Eryximachus suggests that each of the guests orate
a eulogy of love. The guests proceed to participate in oration; however, their analysis of love may not
be as objective as it seems. Rather than focus on an impartial view of the god, many of them have
their own personal beliefs that they promote in each of their speeches. Several speeches heavily
deviate from a speech about love, and turn it into a speech that uses love to support and justify their
beliefs. Characters in the Symposium twist the meaning of love to fit their own principles, rather than
provide an objective assessment. Pausanias s speech utilizes love to justify his relationships with
younger boys. Pausanias s speech begins by outlining two distinct types of love: It follows, therefore,
that the same distinction of title Common and Celestial should be applied to the different Loves who
are the associates of one or the other Aphrodite (180e). There are two different gods of love; therefore,
Pausanias argues there should also be two specific types of love. Common Love is the love for the
body, while Celestial Love is the love for someone s intellect. This distinction is critical, as he
expounds upon who can experience Celestial love: [T]he Love who

Essay On Gold Rush
Gold Rush in the United States It is amazing how a small gold nugget drew a large mass of miners
into Cherokee Nation s grounds. Most people never associate Georgia and gold. Instead they associate
Georgia with slaves, plantations, and cotton fields. One of the unusual events in the Gold Rush was
the surprising find of gold in Georgia. A three ounce gold nugget was found. People began to search
for gold in the caves. Once more gold was found they began to dig for the precious gold nuggets.
First, gold was found in Georgia records indicate to have been in 1829. John Witheroods found a three
ounce nugget along Duke s Creek in Habersham County (present day) White County . (David
Williams) Others will dispute who actually found the first piece of gold nugget. Some people say it
was a gentlemen from North Carolina, found gold nugget in the same location. There is no concrete
evidence who was the first one to find gold. Once the news reached the surrounding areas and states.
The large number of miners was greater than initially expected to have been. Many Gold Rush towns
were quickly built in the north part of Georgia, which was near the area where gold was found. The
towns grew from a handful of families to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They searched for gold along the river and creek beds without any destination with their pans, axes,
and shovels. The miners used a method called placer mining. They used their pans to collect the gold
that washed down from the hillsides and settled in the bottom of the rivers. Other miners would use
flatboats to shift the current to find better locations with more gold deposits. Many of them were very
successful and collected numerous amount of gold dust with their pans. After a while it was more
difficult to find gold that had washed down from the mountains and the hills into the streams. The
towns along grew and more money was available for miners to find new ways to mine for

Immigration And The United States Essay
In the 21st century, immigration is one of the most controversial and hotly debated topics. Thus, we
have an extremely complex immigration process accompanied with extremely complex immigration
laws. Consequently, reform to the United States immigration policy is absolutely necessary to
continue to help build America into the most diverse nation on the planet. To reform immigration,
three topics must be addressed: what to do with illegal immigrants already in the United States, how to
stop future illegal immigration, and how to improve and streamline the process of legal immigration.
Illegal Immigrants Currently in the United States Illegal immigrants currently in the United States
need a path towards citizenship unless they are violent criminals. There are currently approximately 11
million illegal immigrants in the United States. While these immigrants have broken the law,
deporting all of them would be unrealistic, expensive, and ineffective. First, deporting 11 million
illegal immigrants is unrealistic. As former secretary of Homeland Security Michael Chertoff said, I
can t even begin to picture how we would deport 11 million people in a few years where we don t
have a police state. The 4th amendment of the Constitution would have to be repeatedly disregarded
for this to happen. Therefore, unless the United States want to abandon the framework this country
was built on an alternative solution other than deportation must be found. This does not even take into

The Success Of A Fortune 500 Company That Has A Huge...
In society as a whole, we have grown accustomed to learning more about a company through the help
of websites. Websites gives us an understanding about a particular core values, their products, and
even their reception to potential clients. By typing in an organizations name into our search engine, we
will undoubtedly make a decision to buy their products or go to someone else. This fact makes
creating a well thought out website dire to the growth of a company. In my paper I expect to explore a
fortune 500 company that has a huge influence in the restaurant business. We all have heard of this
company, and in many cases have visited it from time to time. I for one have actually worked for this

(2016). One of the main reasons I decided to choose to write about Denny s is because of the legal
problems that Denny s encountered years ago directly related to diversity within the work place. This
type of publicity put a tremendous strain on Denny s image as well as its financial status. Since the
early 1990s, Denny s have received negative publicity about employees that treated minorities in an
unequal manner. Throughout my paper I will discuss what happened and the steps they had to do to
change their perception to the public. I m also inquired to know what other restaurants have dealt with
discrimination controversies and the necessary steps that were taken. Now there are numerous
instances where African American patrons were treated differently from their white counterparts in
Denny s all across the United States. Some of the restaurants were accused of making blacks prepay,
not serving them as quickly as whites were served and sometimes not serving blacks at all. In one
case, black Secret Service agents assigned to protect the president said they sat unserved until all the
whites around them finished eating. Sutton, M. (2002). The chain s employees also were accused of
ejecting black customers, segregating black from white customers, using racial epithets, failing to
honor advertised specials for black customers and trying to limit the number of black customers in a
restaurant at any one time. Fletcher, M. (1994). Situations like

The State Of The United States
In the exception of the third world countries, a lot of us today have lived in a world of security, peace
and freedom. The roads are perfectly built and organized, endless skyscrapers that reached for the
skies are greatly regulated and controlled. Security are provided for us in terms of local polices, the
FBI, and the courts that ensure each and every one of us are innocent until proven guilty. Yet, many of
us have taken that for granted. We did not realize how much we have relied on legal and organized
rules, or how much we benefited from private rights or property rights. Imagined all of that taken
away, when people can simply do away with others, without a hint of human rights. The world then
becomes much more horrifying, as there are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Each of them began to compete for powers to rule over their subjects. The greater authority would be
the territorial rulers, which was the Kings, Princes, Queens, or Dukes that became the focal point of
decision making in the territory. The territorial rulers wanted to defend their territory, and so, they
needed more revenues to fund for wars. Moreover, wars were crucial in that period, as they were
becoming bigger and more expensive. The only way that territorial rulers could gain revenue was from
its subjects such as the towns, villages, churches, or aristocrats (Lecture 2). It was almost impossible
use coercion and forced the elites to pay. This way was not efficient, and was prone to greater revolts
and resistance. Hence, the only ideal way was to come up with a bargain. The bargain may involve
giving benefits such as permanent taxations, better security and welfare to the elites, so that they may
give up their powers. The rulers were not able to fight efficient wars if the subjects were not willing to
support them. Moreover, the aristocrats rule over a huge chunk of the military fights, which make it
difficult for rulers to control the war, if the military subjects were mainly controlled by the elites.
Each of the elites possesses different powers and comparative advantages. It is inevitable that a lot of

The Leaders Of The Roman Catholic Church
Anabaptist Leaders Many religions came about during the Christian Reformation 16th and 17th
century. Martin Luther opposed the Roman Catholic Church, Huldrych Zwingli led the protestant
reformation in Switzerland, and this led to more radical reform in Switzerland led by Conrad Grebel
with Anabaptists. One of the main causes of the reformation was individuals looking at the church and
scriptures and seeing where things did not line up biblically. There was a distinct difference between
the views of the Roman Catholic Church and Protestant Churches. Anabaptist however did not see
themselves as Protestant or Catholic but rather a completely separate entity with their own set of
beliefs and views. They felt that the church had strayed too far way form the scriptures and wanted to
return to the early church. They held the Sermon on the Mount is such high regards which in itself
went against the Church and State being together in their beliefs. The Anabaptist felt that the State
should grant religious liberty and in doing so they were willing to suffer and die rather than go against
their beliefs imposed by the state. This lead to several Anabaptist leaders and followers to be martyred
because of their strong belief in Doctrine and their beliefs to return to the Early Church where the
State and Church were separate. The reason the Anabaptist held doctrine is such high accord was
because they felt they should be able to make the choice as to what they can believe and not be

the power of information system coupled with brilliant business practices and supportive management
to achieve a world class operational efficiency. Wal Mart using RetailLink system to link its suppliers
to every Wal Mart s stores worldwide. As soon as customer purchases an item, the supplier monitoring
the item knows to ship a replacement to the shelf. Dirt Bikes does not sell directly to retail customer, it
relying on a network of 40 distributors. A small percentage of Dirt Bikes is export their motorcycles to
Europe with independent distributor that sell other brands of motorcycles. Dirt bikes is using typical
order system, the sales department must works closely with those Distributors. By using a better order
system, it helps dirt bikes enhance its operation progress, the system will automated receive the order
and telling the manager which distributor is ordering their products. Besides that, the system can auto
inform the supplier of Dirt Bikes that the goods are sold. The supplier will know to ship a replacement
for that. This system will reduce the human power and paper form for the production department of
Dirt Bikes. Another example, Toyota, the largest auto maker in the world. With the aids of information

Language Nguage And The Role Of The Second Language...
Second language acquisition has become an increasingly active field of study in the past couple of
decades. As the world became more dynamic and people from different cultural and linguistic
backgrounds more connected, language played a crucial role in keeping those relations successful.
Subsequently, knowledge of only one language has become rarely sufficient, resulting in growing
bilingualism. As bilingualism has slowly become the new norm, the researchers have become
engrossed in the field of second language acquisition. One of numerous important questions within
that field is that of the role of the first language in second language acquisition. In this essay, I will

The very first notions of language acquisition arose during the time when behavourism was the
dominant psychological theory. Within that context, language was reduced to a set of habits, and
language acquisition was seen as a typical behaviourist stimulus/response type of learning realised

Singapore Elementary School Psychology Case Study
Background This case study revolves around John. He is a capable 11 year old pupil who is an above
average ability boy. However, he almost did not make it into the standard stream in his school. His
results were badly affected due to his frequent inattention in class as well as his incomplete
homework. He is enrolled in an elite primary school that has the GEP program. Based on the class
grades, he is the weakest pupil in the last standard class. John is greatly unmotivated and shows no
interest in his lessons or any class activities. His classmates and even other better achieving
schoolmates look down on him due to his poor grades. They exclude him from their activities and
frequently ridicule him due to his behaviour and differences. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

This awareness would allow the parents to realize that there is a problem and thus put in more effort to
engage him. Self amp; Identity Development Problems amp; Theories An identity crisis and erosion of
self confidence, those are what John is unfortunately going through. It may not be obvious, but peers
have a large enough role, besides his family in his development (Allen amp; Antonishak, 2008). Peer
relationship actually affects how a child would excel in school as well as in the later part of life
(Bukowski, Brendgen amp; Vitaro, 2007; Song amp; Siegel, 2008). Every individual, especially those
within the younger years would have a desire to be accepted by their peers. In this case, John does not
have any friends. Erik Erikson s (1968) life span development theory suggests that John s fourth
psychosocial stage is about inferiority as well as the fifth stage of identity confusion. The fourth stage
is a stage where children develop their self confidence in their own abilities. The fifth stage states that
they explore themselves and in the journey attempt to find answers on their identity and their wants
and needs. In John s case, his problems are twofold i.e. at home and at school. At home, his absent
parents are not there to praise him for what he does. Neither are they there to help him with all these
questions he has about himself. In school, the condescension he receives from his peers would erode
his self confidence and also he is unable to

Case Analysis Of Worldcom
Worldcom s senior management used fraudulent accounting methods to hide the company s
decreasing earnings by recording expenses as capital expenditures and inflating the entity s revenue
from 1999 to 2002. In total, Worldcom s estimated asset inflation was $11 billion. The company filed
for bankruptcy on July 21, 2002.
The WorldCom fraud resulted in a $9 billion restatement, which is the largest in history. WorldCom s
fraudulent reporting totaled over $11 billion over a period of 5 years (Rockness, p.39) It started
initially by using reserves to absorb expenses. When the reserves ran out, a variety of fraudulent
accounting activities were used to enhance the company s revenue and decrease expenses. This was
referred to as a straight forward capitalization of expenses because there were no complex accounting
rules broken (Rockness, p. 39). WorldCom s company culture was an issue as promotions were only
given to those who were willing to cheat their ways to the top (with faulty promises, twisting reality,
or stealing credit. WorldCom manipulated employees by promoting the greatest common good for
workers, shareholders, community, raising fears of losing their jobs if they did not comply with the
management s requests to falsify records (Rockness, p. 39).

The Wonderous Mystery of Black Holes
Just a hundred years ago in 1915 was the time Einstein created his theories of General Relativity, thus
the makings of what is known today. These theories helped predict that black holes actually occupy
the universe vastly (Wiki authors). Because black holes are virtually invisible to the human eye, since
not even light can escape their clutches, it is hard to understand something that can t be seen or even
assume it exists. Though the concept of black holes can be traced back to 1795, to Pierre Simon
Laplace, who originally proposed the idea. It was Karl Schwarzchild to be the first to start proving
black holes exist from the research of Einstein and others (Freudenrich). This was just the start of
black holes becoming a major focus of astronomers and astrophysicists globally.
The common misconception of black holes is that they are a hole in space, but the fact is, they are a
dense orb of matter that continuously grows and consumes. Popular believe is that a black hole is a
gateway through time and space but that is not the case. All someone would find at the center of a
black hole would be a dense orb a matter called the singularity, or core (Freudenrich). Black holes do
in a way distort time and space because of their immense mass yet one would die and be burnt to a
crisp before even coming close to reaching the highly dense core. If watched from the earth, it would
take an infinite amount of time to be consumed by and become a part of a black hole, but

Announcing The Reign Of God
In the book, Announcing the Reign of God, Bishop Mortimer Arias , provides illustrations for
Christian evangelism based on the teachings of Jesus. Which is grounded in the ministry of Christ and
affirmed by evidence and experiences contributed from a diverse group of witnesses. Arias , main
point of view, analyzes the Kingdom of God as the governing authority for the proclamation of the
gospel in word and deed. He explores biblical sources, particularly the gospels of Matthew, Mark, and
Luke with the intent to examine Jesus evangelization. The titles for the readings appraises the
Kingdom of God s: Good News, Presence, Imminence, In Breaking, Eclipse, Announcing as Gift,
Announcing as Hope, and Announcing as Challenge End of the Eclipse? Most importantly, Aries
probes how we should answer the questions of: What it means to be evangelical? Also, What would
kingdom evangelization look like? The most noteworthy teachings that resulted from my readings are
Arias findings that he captured by the discoveries he felt were baffling and appealing: First, Arias
reasons, that there is but one gospel: the gospel of the kingdom (page 8). Second, he states, the
Kingdom of God has become extinct from fervent evangelization, and has become non existent in the
spiritual realm of Christians. Third, Arias asserts, the kingdom of God, cultivates in every aspects of a
Christian life: the spiritual, the physical, the intellectual, and the social. Fourth, he declares, that

Pre Field Trip Report On The Mediterranean Basin
Pre Field trip report The Mediterranean basin is a boundary of land that contains a basin of water
draining into the Atlantic Ocean. It includes countries from Africa, Asia and Europe and is the largest
basin that isn t an ocean. The basin itself has been shaped due to many different processes and actions
but it started during the Triassic like all other oceans and seas formed, by the breaking up of the single
supercontinent at that time known as Pangaea. Over time Pangaea began to rift due to activity from
within the mantle and as a result what became known as Tethys Sea formed between two new
supercontinents; Gondwana and Laurasia see figure 1 (Earthguide 2007 2008). Figure 1 : Breaking
up of Pangaea (Earthguide 2007 2008) During the Early Cretaceous stage Gondwana broke apart into
many of the continents and countries that we know today; one of which being Africa. Africa began to
drift North along with India closing up the area we now know as the Mediterranean basin. All of these
collisions have shaped the tectonic activity and geo dynamics of the landscape around the
Mediterranean. The Alps were formed as result of the collision between Africa and Eurasia
(Hinsbergen et al, 2009). During the Oligocene epoch, the African plate and Eurasian plate moved
towards each other putting pressure on one another, and thus the sediment accumulated into folds.
This is also called Orogenesis. These folds contain major low angle faults from NE SE as result of

Survey Questions On Starbucks Corporation
Name: Shanice Forbes and Sharifa Small
Fair Trade: Starbucks Corporation
Methods
Survey Questions
The survey questions mostly consisted of multiple choice questions, two open ended questions,
allowing written responses, and one qualitative response question. These questions were chosen to
establish consumers differences and comparative perspective of Starbuck s competitors, their daily
usage of the social media platforms, the coffee shops visited frequently, and their opinions on
consumers who frequent Starbucks. The survey contains one matrix/rating scale question ( Appendix
I, Question 5) based on how important qualities are when choosing a coffee shop. Lastly, there were
two demographic questions. The demographic questions are for a general understanding on consumers
behavior based on age group and gender. For an overview of the survey, see appendix I.
Survey Development The purpose of the survey entitled Starbucks Corporation Survey was to
determine if the recent Starbucks Public Relations campaigns have been effective at reaching
consumers (See appendix I, Question 6 for complete list of campaigns options), to learn more about
consumers buying behaviors towards Starbucks compared to it competitors, and the characteristics of
consumers loyalty. The survey was created through Survey Monkey by the researchers who conducted
the study. Survey Monkey provided their answer style as a guideline for the research. An example of

The Characteristics Of Edgar Allan Poe
Edgar Allan Poe is a well known American poet and writer. He was born on January 19, 1809, in
Boston, Massachusetts but was raised as a foster child in Richmond, Virginia by John and Frances
Allan. His first collection of poems were published in 1827, the same year he moved to Boston and
enlisted in the United States Army. He was influenced by the Romantic literary era at the time but
much of his work is considered as the gothic genre, combining fiction, horror and romance. Many
credit him as the architect of the modern short story and with his focus on the dark side of human
nature, he is also known as the inventor of both the detective story and the horror genre. This work

The narrator describes near death experiences due to hunger and dehydration, the power of mother
nature and how the sea destroyed their ship. Survival instincts forced the crew to resort to cannibalism
for their survival before they finally landed on a tropical island where they were met by natives who
were intimidated by the white skinned strangers. The meeting of the civilized sailors and the
uncivilized natives described very different people who did not trust each other. When the natives
killed most of the sailors, Poe illustrates the similarity and primitive side of all people as they kill for
their own protection and survival. Pym managed to escape the island together with Peters and the
novel ends as they near the South Pole, leaving the conclusion to the imagination of the reader.
Edgar Allan Poe portrayed various themes throughout the novel. However, the main theme that stood
out was that of survival. Arthur Gordon Pym describes in his writings how he managed to stay alive
on board the Grampus after the mutiny that occurred and after the massive storm that nearly destroyed
the ship, tearing the sails, breaking the mast, and flooding the hold. All four men managed to survive
by lashing themselves to the hull. However, they get injured and bereft of food and water, going days
and nights suffering from thirst and starvation wavering between hope and despair. They endure
horrendous sights, such as a Dutch ship manned only by dead, rotting corpses, and the

How Did Imperialism Cause Ww1
Militarism Militarism is when a country invests money in their military to increase its size and
strength. Germany began doing this before WWI which caused raised tensions throughout Europe as
well as some other countries militarizing too and when a country builds a new, big military they want
to use it. Nationalism Nationalism is the act of one loving their country and believing that it is superior
to all others. In turn this caused WWI because it was nationalism that caused the Black Hand to
assassinate Archduke Ferdinand, also it caused citizens to think that they would surely win due to their
superiority. Imperialism Imperialism is when a country goes out and gets colonies for resources and
world power. France and England were in a fight with ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The treaty was signed in the Palace of Versailles, outside of Paris, France, it redistributed borders,
punished the losers of the war, and set things up to prevent another war. Shell Shock Shell Shock was
a disorder that soldiers on the front lines acquired from being exposed to so many shockwaves from
the shelling going on around them. This would have caused the soldiers to lose control over their
nervous system, making them twitch and blink uncontrollably. Middle East During the war England
promised all of these countries in the middle east region their own land and country to get them on
their side. However, when the war ended the English realized how hard it would be to follow through
on every promise so they just made a few countries grouping different types of people together. This
will cause problems later in time because the people who were grouped together in these new
countries did not want to be together since they can not identify with each other. This will cause these
countries to receive a lot of pushing back from their people, wanting separate

The Between Antioch And Cyprian Of Carthage
Though writing at different times and to different audiences, both Ignatius of Antioch and Cyprian of
Carthage found their voices in addressing the topic of Church unity, among other themes. In the midst
of impending or recent persecution, both Ignatius and Cyprian warned against schism and encouraged
the Church to persevere in the face of confusion. Ignatius and Cyprian both treat church unity as a gift
from the Holy Spirit to be preserved, and also claim that this unity is dependent on perseverance in
faith, unified participation in the sacraments, and respecting the integrity of apostolic succession.
Without unification of and among these three elements, both Ignatius and Cyprian resolve that true
unity, and thus salvation, is unattainable.
To begin, it is worth looking at the language with which both Ignatius and Cyprian speak of unity. In
both Ignatius letters, and Cyprians The Unity of the Catholic Church (The Unity), the writers paint
beautiful, glorious pictures of a unified Church while also speaking sternly of its importance. In his
letter to the Ephesians Ignatius says, Yes, one and all, you should form yourselves into a choir, so that,
in perfect harmony and taking your pitch from God, you may sing in unison and with one voice to the
Father through Jesus Christ...Therefore you need to abide in irreproachable unity if you really want to
be God s members forever (Ephesians 4). In similarly beautiful yet severe language, Cyprian writes,
God is one and Christ is

Criticism And Imagery In Richard III, By William Shakespeare
William Shakespeare s Richard III is an historical tragedy written in 1591. The play covers events in
the latter years of the War of the Roses (1455 1485). That war a prolonged, intermittent conflict
between the two noble houses of York and Lancaster; the play chronicles the bloody deeds and
atrocities perpetrated by its central figure the murderous and tyrannical King Richard III. After a long
war between the noble houses of York and Lancaster, England is at peace under the ruling of King
Edward IV and the victorious family of York. But Edwards s younger brother, Richard Duke of
Gloucester resents Edwards s power and the happiness of those around him. Malicious, power hungry
and his bitterness towards his physical deformity (hunch ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In this metaphor, he compares conscience with a creature with many tongues. That his tongue has a
different conscience but everything condemns himself. No one believes what Richard III says
anymore, and even himself. The last imagery is, True hope is swift, and flies with swallow s wings.
(Act 5 Scene 2) Richmond compares hope to a bird. Hope with good cause is swift; it flies as fast as a
swallow. Hope that their hope would fly fast as like a swallow and it will come true. And it did come
true. Richmond killed Richard III and became the king. Richard III opens in 1483 with the title
character delivering one of Shakespeare s most famous soliloquies. The first thirteen lines establish
the cheerful, optimistic mood in the kingdom now that Richard s brother, Edward IV, has reclaimed
the throne and the War of the Roses, which began in 1455, appears to have ended. Richard sums up
the situation in the first two lines of the

Evidence of Dissociative Identity Disorder in Fight Club
In the movie Fight Club we are introduced to an average, white collared, middle aged man who is
seemingly normal at first glance. However, it is clear that the narrator suffers from insomnia, anxiety,
and depression very early in the film. The narrator attempts to combat these symptoms in a number of
ways, however, the only way that he has found to be effective is by attending support groups on a
nightly basis.
The narrator soon creates an alter ego (though we do not know he is his alter ego until the end of the
film) named Tyler Durden. Durden is more attractive, has a better physique, and is overall more
confident than the narrator and Durden regularly takes control of the narrator without the narrator s
knowledge to carry out ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
What is more, the narrator flagrantly engages in impulsive, irresponsible, risk taking behaviors that
place him and the general public in danger. According to Sadock Sadock(2007) dissociative identity
disorder commonly presents with many of the same symptoms that plague the narrator in stating,
affect modulation is frequently disturbed, giving rise to mood swings, depression, suicidal tendency,
and generalized irritability. Impulse control is often impaired, leading to risk taking, substance abuse,
and inappropriate or self destructive behaviors. High levels of anxiety and panic are common (p. 672).
Based on all of the narrator s symptoms it is clear that the narrator fits the diagnostic criteria for
dissociative identity disorder not otherwise specified. The diagnosis of dissociative identity disorder
requires the individual to have two separate personalities or identities that take control of the
individual. In this specific case, the narrator only suffers from one separate identity taking control and
therefore he does not meet the criteria for dissociative identity disorder. The DSM IV TR supports
diagnosing the narrator with

Attack rapidly, ruthlessly, viciously, without rest, however tired and hungry you may be, the enemy
will be more tired, more hungry. Keep punching (qtd in The Official, Quotes). The quote was said by
the mighty General George S. Patton, and the quote also sums up his personality. Patton was a man
with a family tree of fighters. In about every war the U.S. has been in before World War I, Patton s
family was there to fight. Before World War I, Patton had experience fighting and trying to find

at West Point (General George). In the end Patton graduated 46th of a class of 103 and was appointed
second lieutenant in the cavalry on June 11, 1909 (Armed Forces). After graduating West Point Patton
married Beatrice Ayer (The Official, Bio).
After Patton graduated he was first sent to the 15th Cavalry at Ft. Sheridan in Illinois (General

George).
In 1912, Patton was twenty six years old, and he represented the United States at the Stockholm

Cell Membrane Structure
1 Describe the normal structure and functioning of cell membranes, and explain how they compare to
the membranes relating to a specific abnormality in cystic fibrosis?
All cells have a cell membrane. The structure of membranes is formed from a double layer of
phospholipids with proteins floating in it. The proteins are embedded on the surface and inside or
bridge the double layers of phospholipids. This structure is called a mosaic model. The main function
of cell membranes is to provide protection and support for the cell and they also control what enter
and exit the cell to maintain internal balance, called homeostasis. There are two types of a membrane
protein: integral proteins and peripheral proteins. The integral membrane proteins are ... Show more

The cystic fibrosis affects the exocrine gland, which are organs that secrete mucus. It normally
produces thin, slippery secretions such as mucus, sweat, tears and digestive juice. The organs can be
affected by cystic fibrosis are sweat glands, respiratory system, digestive system and reproductive
system.
Sweat glands: The individual who suffers from cystic fibrosis, the amount of body salts lost in the
sweat are higher than the normal people. This can cause problems during times of increased sweating.
Such as hot weather.
Respiratory system: The lining of the respiratory tract which made of tiny, hair like cells called the
cilia. Their function is to keep the lung clean and clear from foreign substances and mucus. The
person who suffers from cystic fibrosis, the cilia can not easily remove the thick and sticky mucus out
of the air passages in the lung. The mucus clogs the air passages, causing a chronic cough and lung
infections. Repeated of lung infections can lead to damage to the lung and leading to not get enough
oxygen into the body.
Digestive system: The thick and sticky mucus blocks the pancreatic ducts and preventing the enzymes
from reaching in the small intestine to digest food. The result is incomplete digestion and poor
absorption of food

Self-Driving Trucks
Self driving trucks have become a major scare for the trucking industry. Although uber s Advanced
Technology Group is promoting the positives of the new technology, truck drivers are realizing that
their jobs are not secure. Uber believes that self driving trucks will majorly increase supply, demand,
and the amount of trucking jobs. The work that humans provide during drives is not matchable. Truck
drivers move axles, check brakes, check are hoses, and communicate with outside sources. The more
computerized jobs become, the less necessity there will be for manual labor.
Demand Relationship: This relates the prices to the quantity demanded. The article states, If the self
driving trucks are used more efficiently, it would drive down the cost of freight, which would
stimulate demand. This is an exceptional example of demand relationship in the it displays how lower
prices would raise demand. Uber thinks the demand for freight will create a greater need for truck
drivers. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
According to Uber, self driving trucks will largely increase the amount of freight that can be sold. As a
result of the supply growth, more jobs will be created. It is hard to see a correlation between self
driving trucks and a job surge for truck drivers.
Market Equilibrium: This means that supply and demand are equal. It was predicted that the demand
for more freight will rise and supply will grow in order to match the high demand. Many companies
strive for market equilibrium, so it is obvious that the trucking industry would benefit greatly in goods
and services.
Movement Along the Demand Curve: This occurs when there is a change in both price and the
quantity demanded. The article demonstrated that a decrease in the cost of freight would raise the
demand for it. The relationship between a lower price and higher demand is displayed accurately in
this article with the desire for more efficient self driving

Jim Carrey Impact On Depression
Comedians are not always the funny personality on stage or on screen. Such a case can be observed
with comedian and actor Jim Carrey. As well as many other comedians Jim Carrey struggled with
depression. According to a 2004 interview with CBS, Jim Carrey s parents struggled with financial
problems and the problems made him dislike human interaction at a young age (2004). It was during
this time Jim Carrey felt angry with the world for making him live in poverty. However, he told CBS
that he developed his sense of humor by trying to make his mother laugh when she was very sick
(2004). When he eventually came to rise to fame, when money was no longer an issue his mental
health became one. Jim Carrey would use various ways to cope with his depression and keep up with
his mental health.
Jim Carrey s first occurrence of depression was his childhood. Based on what is known about his life
and the patterns of depression can be speculated. During his adolescence, he discussed the troubles he
faced alongside his parents about a life in poverty. Early signs of depression may have been present
during his childhood and left untreated. An article from the National Institute of Health claims that
depression during a person s childhood can lead to other mental disorders going into adulthood
(2012). That led to his depression in adulthood that made him grow a dependency on Prozac.
The impact of Jim Carrey s depression can rarely be seen. Jim Carrey is often reclusive and has not

Analysis Of The Article Some Lessons From The Assembly Line
The article Some Lessons From the Assembly Line by Andrew Braaksma is a rollercoaster ride that
takes the reader through the lessons that taught him to take nothing for granted. This is accomplished
by primarily showing the reader the life of an assembly line worker, but then will take jumps to show
the life he has at college. To take nothing for granted seems like such a simple and common lesson
that it really should be known by people long before they start working. This however is not the case
as Braaksma does a great job of telling his readers that even he did not have this down. His own life
lessons told throughout the article put it all in perspective and gave him the full grasp in the idea. The
main claim of Some Lessons From the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The lesson Braaksma taught is a great one that needs a little bit of examination to become even clearer
and greater. It goes from reading about school to the factory and back again. The highs and lows will
shift back and forth as well to help strengthen his points creating that perfect puzzle. With just lows,
the reading would be boring, and with just highs, everything would seem to be a main point, even
when it is not. Which is why the money, the factory life, and even the end are perfect highs. To take
nothing for granted is to become a better person. It gives a better perspective on everything. Taking
something for granted will only show greed or self entitlement which could lead to sadness or even
anger. For instance, if one takes clean water for granted, they will always expect it, or not be thankful
enough for how important it is. If they do not take it for granted than they will be thankful for a glass
of clean water as they will realize it will not always be there. Taking nothing for granted is a simple
and important, but often missed lesson that a lot of people may need to learn. Andrew Braaksma told
his story and how he learned this lesson for others to see though Some Lessons From the Assembly

consider her to be touched by the gods and as strong as men . Crimes against women are punished

  • 2. The Problem Of Stop And Searches In addition, as Foucault (1983, in Kelly, 2000, p.466) believed, not everything is bad but everything is dangerous... if everything is dangerous then we always have something to do and since youth at risk are considered particularly dangerous, adults have taken it upon themselves to keep these dangerous risks at a minimum by keeping young people under surveillance in any way possible. The method of stop and searches has unfortunately resulted in more disputes and complaint from the youth of the community targeted at constables rather than coalition between the two (Kelly, 2000). As Kelly (2000) points out, the idea of youth at risk surrounds all activities and behaviour involving young people and Ogden and Germinario (1988 in Kelly, 2000) go a step further and claim all children are at times students at risk . Unfortunately, this mentality about young people has not only increased surveillance around them, but it has, as a result, increased the conflict between young people and adults (Kelly, 2000). However, when actual students were interviewed about their personal experiences with police, majority understood the need for the stop and search policy. Russell, Boakye and Hackett (2013) found that most students were comfortable with the policy being put into practice in certain areas as this form of overt surveillance reduced the levels of crime in rogue neighbourhoods. Students welcomed the police presence as it made them feel safer and they admitted that the stop and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Summary Of The Symposium Lost Objectivity in the Symposium The Symposium was written by Plato to illustrate a discussion between a group of friends. Additionally, the story presents numerous arguments that focus on the god Love and its merits. To pass time while they drink, Eryximachus suggests that each of the guests orate a eulogy of love. The guests proceed to participate in oration; however, their analysis of love may not be as objective as it seems. Rather than focus on an impartial view of the god, many of them have their own personal beliefs that they promote in each of their speeches. Several speeches heavily deviate from a speech about love, and turn it into a speech that uses love to support and justify their beliefs. Characters in the Symposium twist the meaning of love to fit their own principles, rather than provide an objective assessment. Pausanias s speech utilizes love to justify his relationships with younger boys. Pausanias s speech begins by outlining two distinct types of love: It follows, therefore, that the same distinction of title Common and Celestial should be applied to the different Loves who are the associates of one or the other Aphrodite (180e). There are two different gods of love; therefore, Pausanias argues there should also be two specific types of love. Common Love is the love for the body, while Celestial Love is the love for someone s intellect. This distinction is critical, as he expounds upon who can experience Celestial love: [T]he Love who ... • 6. Essay On Gold Rush Gold Rush in the United States It is amazing how a small gold nugget drew a large mass of miners into Cherokee Nation s grounds. Most people never associate Georgia and gold. Instead they associate Georgia with slaves, plantations, and cotton fields. One of the unusual events in the Gold Rush was the surprising find of gold in Georgia. A three ounce gold nugget was found. People began to search for gold in the caves. Once more gold was found they began to dig for the precious gold nuggets. First, gold was found in Georgia records indicate to have been in 1829. John Witheroods found a three ounce nugget along Duke s Creek in Habersham County (present day) White County . (David Williams) Others will dispute who actually found the first piece of gold nugget. Some people say it was a gentlemen from North Carolina, found gold nugget in the same location. There is no concrete evidence who was the first one to find gold. Once the news reached the surrounding areas and states. The large number of miners was greater than initially expected to have been. Many Gold Rush towns were quickly built in the north part of Georgia, which was near the area where gold was found. The towns grew from a handful of families to ... • 7. Immigration And The United States Essay In the 21st century, immigration is one of the most controversial and hotly debated topics. Thus, we have an extremely complex immigration process accompanied with extremely complex immigration laws. Consequently, reform to the United States immigration policy is absolutely necessary to continue to help build America into the most diverse nation on the planet. To reform immigration, three topics must be addressed: what to do with illegal immigrants already in the United States, how to stop future illegal immigration, and how to improve and streamline the process of legal immigration. Illegal Immigrants Currently in the United States Illegal immigrants currently in the United States need a path towards citizenship unless they are violent criminals. There are currently approximately 11 million illegal immigrants in the United States. While these immigrants have broken the law, deporting all of them would be unrealistic, expensive, and ineffective. First, deporting 11 million illegal immigrants is unrealistic. As former secretary of Homeland Security Michael Chertoff said, I can t even begin to picture how we would deport 11 million people in a few years where we don t have a police state. The 4th amendment of the Constitution would have to be repeatedly disregarded for this to happen. Therefore, unless the United States want to abandon the framework this country was built on an alternative solution other than deportation must be found. This does not even take into ... Websites gives us an understanding about a particular core values, their products, and even their reception to potential clients. By typing in an organizations name into our search engine, we will undoubtedly make a decision to buy their products or go to someone else. This fact makes creating a well thought out website dire to the growth of a company. In my paper I expect to explore a fortune 500 company that has a huge influence in the restaurant business. We all have heard of this company, and in many cases have visited it from time to time. I for one have actually worked for this company for a number of years. My job ... One of the main reasons I decided to choose to write about Denny s is because of the legal problems that Denny s encountered years ago directly related to diversity within the work place. This type of publicity put a tremendous strain on Denny s image as well as its financial status. Since the early 1990s, Denny s have received negative publicity about employees that treated minorities in an unequal manner. Throughout my paper I will discuss what happened and the steps they had to do to change their perception to the public. I m also inquired to know what other restaurants have dealt with discrimination controversies and the necessary steps that were taken. Now there are numerous instances where African American patrons were treated differently from their white counterparts in Denny s all across the United States. Some of the restaurants were accused of making blacks prepay, not serving them as quickly as whites were served and sometimes not serving blacks at all. In one case, black Secret Service agents assigned to protect the president said they sat unserved until all the whites around them finished eating. Sutton, M. (2002). The chain s employees also were accused of ejecting black customers, segregating black from white customers, using racial epithets, failing to honor advertised specials for black customers and trying to limit the number of black customers in a restaurant at any one time. The roads are perfectly built and organized, endless skyscrapers that reached for the skies are greatly regulated and controlled. Security are provided for us in terms of local polices, the FBI, and the courts that ensure each and every one of us are innocent until proven guilty. Yet, many of us have taken that for granted. We did not realize how much we have relied on legal and organized rules, or how much we benefited from private rights or property rights. Imagined all of that taken away, when people can simply do away with others, without a hint of human rights. The world then becomes much more horrifying, as there are ... The greater authority would be the territorial rulers, which was the Kings, Princes, Queens, or Dukes that became the focal point of decision making in the territory. The territorial rulers wanted to defend their territory, and so, they needed more revenues to fund for wars. Moreover, wars were crucial in that period, as they were becoming bigger and more expensive. The only way that territorial rulers could gain revenue was from its subjects such as the towns, villages, churches, or aristocrats (Lecture 2). It was almost impossible use coercion and forced the elites to pay. This way was not efficient, and was prone to greater revolts and resistance. Hence, the only ideal way was to come up with a bargain. The bargain may involve giving benefits such as permanent taxations, better security and welfare to the elites, so that they may give up their powers. The rulers were not able to fight efficient wars if the subjects were not willing to support them. Moreover, the aristocrats rule over a huge chunk of the military fights, which make it difficult for rulers to control the war, if the military subjects were mainly controlled by the elites. • 11. The Leaders Of The Roman Catholic Church Anabaptist Leaders Many religions came about during the Christian Reformation 16th and 17th century. Martin Luther opposed the Roman Catholic Church, Huldrych Zwingli led the protestant reformation in Switzerland, and this led to more radical reform in Switzerland led by Conrad Grebel with Anabaptists. One of the main causes of the reformation was individuals looking at the church and scriptures and seeing where things did not line up biblically. There was a distinct difference between the views of the Roman Catholic Church and Protestant Churches. Anabaptist however did not see themselves as Protestant or Catholic but rather a completely separate entity with their own set of beliefs and views. They felt that the church had strayed too far way form the scriptures and wanted to return to the early church. They held the Sermon on the Mount is such high regards which in itself went against the Church and State being together in their beliefs. The Anabaptist felt that the State should grant religious liberty and in doing so they were willing to suffer and die rather than go against their beliefs imposed by the state. This lead to several Anabaptist leaders and followers to be martyred because of their strong belief in Doctrine and their beliefs to return to the Early Church where the State and Church were separate. The reason the Anabaptist held doctrine is such high accord was because they felt they should be able to make the choice as to what they can believe and not be ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

As bilingualism has slowly become the new norm, the researchers have become engrossed in the field of second language acquisition. Self amp; Identity Development Problems amp; Theories An identity crisis and erosion of self confidence, those are what John is unfortunately going through. It may not be obvious, but peers have a large enough role, besides his family in his development (Allen amp; Antonishak, 2008). Peer relationship actually affects how a child would excel in school as well as in the later part of life (Bukowski, Brendgen amp; Vitaro, 2007; Song amp; Siegel, 2008). Every individual, especially those within the younger years would have a desire to be accepted by their peers. In this case, John does not have any friends. Erik Erikson s (1968) life span development theory suggests that John s fourth psychosocial stage is about inferiority as well as the fifth stage of identity confusion. The fourth stage is a stage where children develop their self confidence in their own abilities. The fifth stage states that they explore themselves and in the journey attempt to find answers on their identity and their wants and needs. In John s case, his problems are twofold i.e. at home and at school. At home, his absent parents are not there to praise him for what he does. Neither are they there to help him with all these questions he has about himself. In school, the condescension he receives from his peers would erode his self confidence and also he is unable to ... • 15. Case Analysis Of Worldcom Worldcom s senior management used fraudulent accounting methods to hide the company s decreasing earnings by recording expenses as capital expenditures and inflating the entity s revenue from 1999 to 2002. In total, Worldcom s estimated asset inflation was $11 billion. The company filed for bankruptcy on July 21, 2002. The WorldCom fraud resulted in a $9 billion restatement, which is the largest in history. WorldCom s fraudulent reporting totaled over $11 billion over a period of 5 years (Rockness, p.39) It started initially by using reserves to absorb expenses. When the reserves ran out, a variety of fraudulent accounting activities were used to enhance the company s revenue and decrease expenses. This was referred to as a straight forward capitalization of expenses because there were no complex accounting rules broken (Rockness, p. 39). WorldCom s company culture was an issue as promotions were only given to those who were willing to cheat their ways to the top (with faulty promises, twisting reality, or stealing credit. WorldCom manipulated employees by promoting the greatest common good for workers, shareholders, community, raising fears of losing their jobs if they did not comply with the management s requests to falsify records (Rockness, p. 39). These theories helped predict that black holes actually occupy the universe vastly (Wiki authors). Because black holes are virtually invisible to the human eye, since not even light can escape their clutches, it is hard to understand something that can t be seen or even assume it exists. Though the concept of black holes can be traced back to 1795, to Pierre Simon Laplace, who originally proposed the idea. It was Karl Schwarzchild to be the first to start proving black holes exist from the research of Einstein and others (Freudenrich). This was just the start of black holes becoming a major focus of astronomers and astrophysicists globally. The common misconception of black holes is that they are a hole in space, but the fact is, they are a dense orb of matter that continuously grows and consumes. Popular believe is that a black hole is a gateway through time and space but that is not the case. All someone would find at the center of a black hole would be a dense orb a matter called the singularity, or core (Freudenrich). Black holes do in a way distort time and space because of their immense mass yet one would die and be burnt to a crisp before even coming close to reaching the highly dense core. If watched from the earth, it would take an infinite amount of time to be consumed by and become a part of a black hole, but ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Which is grounded in the ministry of Christ and affirmed by evidence and experiences contributed from a diverse group of witnesses. Arias , main point of view, analyzes the Kingdom of God as the governing authority for the proclamation of the gospel in word and deed. He explores biblical sources, particularly the gospels of Matthew, Mark, and Luke with the intent to examine Jesus evangelization. The titles for the readings appraises the Kingdom of God s: Good News, Presence, Imminence, In Breaking, Eclipse, Announcing as Gift, Announcing as Hope, and Announcing as Challenge End of the Eclipse? Most importantly, Aries probes how we should answer the questions of: What it means to be evangelical? Also, What would kingdom evangelization look like? The most noteworthy teachings that resulted from my readings are Arias findings that he captured by the discoveries he felt were baffling and appealing: First, Arias reasons, that there is but one gospel: the gospel of the kingdom (page 8). Second, he states, the Kingdom of God has become extinct from fervent evangelization, and has become non existent in the spiritual realm of Christians. Third, Arias asserts, the kingdom of God, cultivates in every aspects of a Christian life: the spiritual, the physical, the intellectual, and the social. Fourth, he declares, that Kingdom ... It includes countries from Africa, Asia and Europe and is the largest basin that isn t an ocean. The basin itself has been shaped due to many different processes and actions but it started during the Triassic like all other oceans and seas formed, by the breaking up of the single supercontinent at that time known as Pangaea. Over time Pangaea began to rift due to activity from within the mantle and as a result what became known as Tethys Sea formed between two new supercontinents; Gondwana and Laurasia see figure 1 (Earthguide 2007 2008). Figure 1 : Breaking up of Pangaea (Earthguide 2007 2008) During the Early Cretaceous stage Gondwana broke apart into many of the continents and countries that we know today; one of which being Africa. Africa began to drift North along with India closing up the area we now know as the Mediterranean basin. All of these collisions have shaped the tectonic activity and geo dynamics of the landscape around the Mediterranean. The Alps were formed as result of the collision between Africa and Eurasia (Hinsbergen et al, 2009). Survival instincts forced the crew to resort to cannibalism for their survival before they finally landed on a tropical island where they were met by natives who were intimidated by the white skinned strangers. The meeting of the civilized sailors and the uncivilized natives described very different people who did not trust each other. When the natives killed most of the sailors, Poe illustrates the similarity and primitive side of all people as they kill for their own protection and survival. • 23. The Between Antioch And Cyprian Of Carthage Though writing at different times and to different audiences, both Ignatius of Antioch and Cyprian of Carthage found their voices in addressing the topic of Church unity, among other themes. In the midst of impending or recent persecution, both Ignatius and Cyprian warned against schism and encouraged the Church to persevere in the face of confusion. Ignatius and Cyprian both treat church unity as a gift from the Holy Spirit to be preserved, and also claim that this unity is dependent on perseverance in faith, unified participation in the sacraments, and respecting the integrity of apostolic succession. Without unification of and among these three elements, both Ignatius and Cyprian resolve that true unity, and thus salvation, is unattainable. To begin, it is worth looking at the language with which both Ignatius and Cyprian speak of unity. In both Ignatius letters, and Cyprians The Unity of the Catholic Church (The Unity), the writers paint beautiful, glorious pictures of a unified Church while also speaking sternly of its importance. In his letter to the Ephesians Ignatius says, Yes, one and all, you should form yourselves into a choir, so that, in perfect harmony and taking your pitch from God, you may sing in unison and with one voice to the Father through Jesus Christ...Therefore you need to abide in irreproachable unity if you really want to be God s members forever (Ephesians 4).
