What Makes a Hospital a Top 100 Hospital Essay

What Makes a Top 100 Hospital?
Since 1993, the Truven Health 100 Top Hospitals program has used both independent and objective
research to guide hospital and health system performance. In this process, they analyze public data
sources to compare hospitals to similar organizations. The 100 Top Hospitals program uses a balanced
scorecard that incorporates public data, proprietary, peer reviewed methodology and key performance
metrics to arrive at an objective, independent analysis of hospital or health system performance. This
research measures performance, organizational alignment, progress ... Show more content on

Well, the sitting on 4 acres the hospital encompasses Ronald Regan UCLA Medical center, Stewart
and Lynda Resnick Neuropsychiatric Hospital at UCLA and Mattel Children s Hospital UCLA. Some
key features I found extremely helpful is their organization. Every floor of Ronald Reagan UCLA
Medical Center is devoted to a specific specialty and equipped with all of the essential support
equipment and supplies. Every floor has its own satellite pharmacy, dialysis storage, respiratory
therapy workrooms, and resident doctor sleep rooms. Additionally; each patient room has the ability to
convert into an intensive care unit (ICU) to allow for the continuous care of a critically ill patient in
one room. This makes caring for patients extremely easy as everything they need is made available to
them at the exact moment of a potential emergency. (Ronald Regan UCLA Medical Center, 2013)
One other element that seems to help with its rating is their Healing by design architectural concept.
Renowned architects I.M. Pei and C.C. Pei of Pei Partnership Architects designed Ronald Reagan
UCLA Medical Center, with the firm of Perkins amp; Will serving as the executive architect. Their
vision was to construct an environment that enhances healing. The design is open and light filled,
organized in pavilions with glass walls facing outdoors, and includes gardens and gathering places.

Scissor Sharpener Research Paper
The Scissor Sharpener There were times when this Scissor Sharpener who was a small dwarfed like
man with a hunchback strangely was on one side of his back, he drove what looked like to me was a
very tiny gray van, thinking this was made for small people, he would shout out if you needed
anything sharpened? The vision I have has never left me, I will always remember this from his tiny
little van, he would open the back doors to reveal a grinding wheel; he would bend over and peer to
look at you with creepy expression, I think he did this to scare us, thinking because he was different
from other people. We would stare at him, cruel as it may seem, but kids do the unkind things only

Analysis Of David Orr s The Principle Of Mastering Oneself
An important point in which David Orr goes into considerable detail about is his six principles to
rethink education. First, he ensures that all education is environmental education by every mean. In
western education particularly, students are more often taught that they are apart of taught that they are
apart from the natural world, or above it if you will. Leesa Fawcett enforces this idea on page 107 by
stating:
We have been taught to measure, manage, exploit the environment, to make money off of it on the
back s of others near and far. We ve been encouraged to ignore it, to stay out of its messy dirty places.
To ignore it is to ignore ourselves, our bodies, our forces and our relationships
Fawcett implies that undeniably students are being taught that education is the way to success and
success means exploiting the environment and ignoring the importance of sustainability. Next Orr uses
the Greek term, Paideia to formulate his principle of mastering oneself is the goal of education and
subjects are the tools of doing so (Orr, 2004, pg. 9). The current education system looks at specializing
in one particular subject, and being really knowledgeable in that subject alone is what education
strives for. However, one simply cannot just study one specific subject with no reflection on others,
because that is what aids one in formulating their own ideas and understandings of not only that
subject but their position in the world as well. His idea calls upon

The main subject of this hospitality research project is entrepreneurship. This subject was chosen for
several reasons: both the authors would like to set up a business in future, they have the ambition to
have a company of their own, they like to manage, and use creativity to come up with an original
concept. To narrow the subject down one specific subject is chosen. Moreover, the concept of starting

The People With Disability Will Face Discrimination
We live in a digital world where the physical work becoming lesser and lesser day by day. In the
professional world, if we look at any workplace whether it is industry or business, the people with
disability will face discrimination. Stereotypical thinking is that people with physical disability cannot
do much of work. Even though in this digital and machine world where less physical work required,
though the disabled persons find difficulties. Most questionable thing is that, physically disabled
persons who are entrepreneurs, they run their own business but they initially had faced discrimination
in the professional world even though they have the qualification and every other qualities that proved
that they are completely eligible for the job. The most questionable thing is that even bank which
approved their loans for business, those banks also doubted them as a person. Disabled persons are as
able for employment as any other normal person. They usually face a discrimination for being a
disabled person. The main thing is that the perspective of the person towards them. Some people have
a negative attitude towards disabled persons that they are physically and mentally not strong as a
normal person. Whereas the people who have positive attitude believes that intelligence, work ethics,
and dedication has no relation with a disability. Those attitude difference create ethical questions. The
common question is

Oedipus The King Jocasta
When reading the drama Oedipus the King written by Sophocles, the reader can notice many different
lessons and point of views that are shown in this story. For example, one point of view shown in
Sophocles drama is that sons are attracted to their mothers and vice versa. The scholar, Weather, goes
more in depth in his article Mother and Sons of why he thinks this happens. He states that this
attraction between mother and son could have been passed down generation after generation, ever
since the interrelationship between Eve and her sons (Weather). Another theme Sophocles wrote about
in this story is that no one can deny their destiny. Jocasta tries her best to change her destiny, but at the
end of the day she couldn t. Many readers question ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
On the day she gives birth to Oedipus, Lauis forces her to kill her son. She didn t have the heart to do
it herself so decides to give that burden to her servant. Scholar Newton states in his article that a
psychologist might suggest that Jocasta manages to suppress her guilt over the abandonment of her
baby all these years by treating her husband as if he were indeed her son (Newton). During the drama,
the audience is convinced that this is true because every time Oedipus is mad Jocasta would do
anything possible to comfort him like any other mother would. Another example of her motherly
instincts towards Oedipus is when he is close to the truth. She tells him to stop looking into the story,
yet Oedipus would not listen. Jocasta tries to stop him because she doesn t want him to suffer by the
news. Scholarly Newton states that she unwittingly behaves like a mother concerned that her son do
nothing to disgrace the family in the eye of the public. (Newton) Oedipus thought Jocasta is trying to
protect him from finding out that his family is poor. If only he listen to her instead of being stubborn,
he would have never known the truth and Jocasta could possibly still be alive. The reason she took her
life, according to scholar Wiersma, is because she saw no other escape except suicide after she had
lost all of the opportunities for concealing the

Burn Injury Research Paper
Living With a Burn Injury
The number of burns that require medical attention in the United States are 1.1 million every year.
Burns are injuries caused either by heat, chemicals, sunlight, radiation, or electricity (Centers for
Disease Control and Prevention, (n.d.). Statistics show most burn injuries for women and children
occur in the home and for men they typically occur at the workplace. They are classified as first,
second, or third degree, usually by how deep and severely they breach the skins surface (World Health
Organization, (2017, January). It s important to know the signs and symptoms of a burn injury to
ensure the right kind of medical treatment is provided.
Classifications
First degree burns only cause damage to the outer layer of the skin also known as the epidermis.
Second degree burn damage extends as far as the dermis layer, which is the layer beneath the
epidermis (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, (n.d.). These burns sometimes will need a skin
graft to enclose the area and protect it while in the healing process. After having damaged or
completely destroyed both the top two layers of the skin, a third degree burn extends past the hair
follicles and sweat glands causing damage to the underlying tissue. These kinds of burns will almost
always require the use of a skin graft (John Hopkins Health Medicine ... Show more content on

Second degree burns will have a deep reddening of the skin, blisters, and may include loss of some of
the skin. They sometimes tend to have a glossy appearance from leaking fluid (World Health

with the skin having a tendency to appear leathery and dry. Unfortunately there is no feeling in these
areas because the nerve endings are damaged (National Institute of General Medical Sciences, (2016,

Unknown Vs Evil In Frankenstein
One of the many themes in James Whale s 1931 film Frankenstein is that of the known vs the
unknown or good vs evil. Whale uses the motif of fire as a powerful extension of what the good can
do to the darkness. Fire is used as a way to keep the Monster or the evil representation of the film in
isolation and outside of the known world and also as a way to show that the known or good will
always win against the unknown or evil.
Known vs unknown or good vs evil falls into the category of a knowledge narrative according to
Andrew Tudor. Tudor says that the narrative itself functions by proposing the existence of a body of
knowledge capable of mediating between these domains of known and unknown (83). The first
distinct moment where there is realization of the darkness/unknown trying to seep into the world of
the light/known is when Henry Frankenstein says that his monster has only been kept in complete
darkness and to wait until [he] brings him into the light (30:30 30:35). After his speech the Monster
walks into the room and Frankenstein closes the light as if to wait for the right moment to bring him
into light or the world of the known. When the Monster finally sits down on a chair, Frankenstein
opens the window on the roof to reveal the sunlight (32:07). Once the sunlight is revealed to the
Monster, it slowly turns his head upwards and walks very slowly and carefully into the light. The
Monster with its head and arms raised as if it wants to grab the light and become a

Post Lab Calculation Essay
Post lab Questions: What effect would poor circulation of the melting point bath liquid have on the

Poor circulation of the melting point bath would cause inaccurate measurements, either lower or
higher than the actual melting point of the tested compounds. Poor circulation can cause different
temperatures in the bath. In specific, the measured temperature is at the location of the thermometer,
while the sample s temperature could have experienced a different temperature from what was
indicated. What is the effect of an insoluble impurity, such as sodium sulfate, on the observed melting

It is crucial to heat the melting point bath slowly and steadily when the temperature gets close to the
melting point, in order to ensure sufficient time for complete transfer of heat from the bath, through
the capillary tubes to the compound. Why is it important to pack the sample tightly in the melting
point capillary?
It is vital to pack the sample tightly in the melting point capillary, to allow good heat transfer from the
capillary walls to the crystals. The less air is present, the better the heat will transfer. An unknown
compound is suspected to be acetanilide (mp 113.5°C 114°C). What would happen to the melting
point if this unknown were mixed with (a) an equal quantity of pure acetanilide? (b) an equal quantity
of benzoic acid? If the unknown were mixed with an equal quantity of pure acetanilide, the melting
point would have the same melting point. The addition of equal quantity of benzoic acid (melting
point: 122°C) would make the mixture melt at a temperature below that of pure acetanilide. In fact, it
would result in a lower, broader melting range, for instance, 95°C

The Fundamental Principle Of Inclusive Schooling
Meeting children s needs is a vital aspect of teaching whereby the needs of all children must be taken
into consideration. Teacher s professional practice is developed over time in various ways, for
example through experience and reflection (Tack et al, 2014). My professional practice was informed
by Meeting Children s Needs module as it educated me on how to assist children to become successful
learners. This can be achieved through various strategies that meet the diverse needs of every child.
The National Curriculum (National Curriculum, 2000) has at times been ambiguous on the matter of
inclusion as it is a contentious term. A prominent philosophy within education was that children had to
adapt themselves to classroom learning in order ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Hence it is important that schools embrace diversity to ensure effective learning of all takes place.
Each child is special and as a practitioner working with children I have to be aware of all issues
surrounding children s lives as outside factors affect learning. This essay will focus on the case studies
of Charlotte and Pinkesh to illustrate how these case studies educated me on how to deal with children
in similar situations and how my professional practice has been developed. These concepts of meeting
children s needs prepared me for my SEL experience in many ways. Firstly, it allowed me to
understand the importance of inclusion and how this was crucial to effective learning. One pupil I
profiled was Jake; not given a SEN statement, however the teacher ensured she differentiated, in turn
enhancing his learning. Jake was very capable but he had behavioural issues and suffered from low
self esteem: very shy and liked working on his own. After his work was completed he would act out.
This behaviour was similar to the case study of Charlotte as her behaviour deteriorated for attention.
Charlotte just like Jake had low self esteem; these children need to be given challenging work so they
can reach their full potential. Maslow points to the importance of self esteem and as a need by all to
feel valued (Maslow, 1954, p.91). Banks has argued that having good

Data Management and Analysis
The data collected from questionnaire and registration forms were computerized and processed using
the calculation program excel. The results were in a descriptive manner with numbers and
percentages. The questions with open reply were analyzed by theme analysis. The results obtained
were extracts of statements presented by the district nurses (Friman, Klang Ebbeskog, 2010). Three
researchers were involved in data collection , all data collected were transcribed exactly same as it was

Essay about The Classic of Filial Piety Analysis
The Classic of Filial Piety is a highly influencial piece of art from acient China that many use, along

The Remains Of The Day
Protagonists of novels should be relatable and realistic. They should be individuals with whom readers
can easily identify, and consequently should be painted with as much humanity as possible. Mr.
Stevens, the protagonist of Kazuo Ishiguro s novel The Remains of the Day, is no exception. He is
meant to be an incredibly human character, and consequently it makes sense that the reader should
seek to define his flaws and limits, and whether or not he exhibits spiritual imprisonment , as Robert
Stone terms it. Of course, it is necessary to identify exactly what spiritual imprisonment is. At its core,
spiritual imprisonment can be defined as someone being restricted by someone or something else from
pursuing what they value. The character of Stevens that Ishiguro draws in his short narrative, and the
personal values that Stevens subtly exhibits, suggest that Stevens, while misguided in his values for a
large portion of the book, is free to pursue those values, and consequently is not spiritually
imprisoned.
Before delving further into an analysis of Ishiguro s protagonist, it is absolutely necessary to identify
exactly what Stevens values. He values and meditates on throughout the entirety of the novel dignity.
Specifically, Stevens posit[s] that dignity has to do crucially with a butler s ability not to abandon the
professional being he inhabits (Ishiguro, 42). Moreover, he reflects that the great butlers are great by
virtue of their ability to inhabit their

The Impact Of Air Bags On A Car Safety Device
Impact Analysis of Air Bags
Name : Kevin Agrawal
ID. No 2013A4PS254G
Details of the reference paper used : http://www nrd.nhtsa.dot.gov/pubs/806572.pdf Introduction
An airbag is a vehicle safety device consisting of a flexible fabric bag, also known as an airbag
cushion. The airbag module is designed to inflate rapidly then quickly deflate during a collision or
impact with another object or a sudden deceleration. The purpose of the airbag is to provide occupant
protection and restraint during a crash event.
The introduction of the air bags dates back to 11th July 1984 when the United States government
amended (FMVSS 208), to require cars produced after 1 April 1989 to be equipped with a passive
restraint for the driver. Hence an airbag along with and seat belt would meet the requirements of the
standard. The invention of the airbags is credited to the German engineer Walter Linderer and North
American John W. Hetrick who in 1951 registered for the first airbag patents.
The airbag cushions manufactured world wide are constructed with fabric made from nylon 6,6 yarn.
Air bags are actually inflated by a solid rocket booster. Sodium azide (NaN3) and potassium nitrate
(KNO3) react very quickly to produce a large pulse of hot nitrogen gas. This gas inflates the bag,
which literally bursts out of the steering wheel or dashboard as it expands. Airbags need to inflate at
an extremely fast rate in order to be fully inflated by the time a person s body begins to

We walk out of the airport and stop, frozen in sheer amazement at the picturesque view of Bermuda.
This sheer amazement occurs when one is so astonished at what his eyes lay upon that his body
forgets all functions, as if each muscle and organ is in envy of what the eyes are rewarded with.
(Definition) As if on cue, the aroma of peppers comes upon us as we look upon the clear, turquoise
water waving back and forth in front of us between the immaculate palm trees swaying in the light
breeze. We follow our taxi driver to his car and enter, only to hear music that would never be played in

everyone who lives in Bermuda, and soon us as well. This drive to the resort is one of the most
exquisite 15 minute journeys I will ever undergo, and I already know that this trip will be an

continents differed in how slaves were handled, who the slaves were, and how long they were to be
enslaved.
The slaves of Africa were people who owed debts, were prisoners of war, or committed a crime
(Franklin and Higginbotham 10). In comparison, European traders negotiated with African rulers to
obtain their slaves or initiated slave raids (Franklin and Higginbotham 28). In contrast to slaves in the

The slaves of the New World had more restrictions on their freedoms due to the issuing of many slave
codes in each colony beginning in the 1660s (Franklin and Higginbotham 54). One example is the
restriction on marriage for slaves. In Africa, there was no restriction on marriages or having a family
while still a slave (Franklin and Higginbotham 10). However, in places like New England slaves were
allowed to marry but if their spouse was owned by a different master they would have to live apart.
There also instances where masters would not allow enslaved parents to keep their children (Franklin
and Higginbotham 58). Furthermore, the marriage between slaves and masters was a forbidden. For
example, Virginia issued a statue in 1691 prohibiting interracial marriage (Franklin and Higginbotham
57). Other such laws prohibiting freedoms of slaves in the colonies were in 1680 issued by Virginia
but laws similar to this were issued in other colonies. It forbade slaves the freedoms of assembly and
to bear arms (Franklin and Higginbotham

The Harrowing Story Of Harriet Jacobs
The harrowing story of Harriet Jacobs experiences with slavery opens the reader s eyes to the special
cruelty women endured under the watchful eye of their masters and mistresses. And while Jacobs
openly admits that slavery is terrible fate for both men and women, there are additional burdens added
to women who are forced to live under the commands of another. Jacobs writes, Slavery is terrible for
men; but it is far more terrible for women. Superadded to the burden common to all, they have
wrongs, and sufferings, and mortifications peculiarly their own. This peculiar suffering Jacobs speaks
of is often related to the morality of the soul, and the persistent pressure that women must endure
under the control of their master, especially concerning rape and sexual harassment. Added on top of
the physical punishment that all slaves experience, women, especially those born with beauty, suffer
from moral failings when a master forces himself upon them. Furthermore, an additional pain women
must endure, is that of motherhood. In a matriarchal society, women are responsible for the wellbeing
of others, as was the case with Linda s grandmother. Women has additional tethers to their lives which
only serve to increase the pains of slavery. It is well known that black slaves in America faced many
trials and tribulations, however, there are cruelties which women faced with the institution of slavery
which were exclusive to their gender. For slave women, sexual harassment, and rape

Epistemological Violence Summary
In the first article by Thomas Teo called Epistemological Violence he talks about this concept called
Epistemological Violence which he states the concept is using empirical evidence in either research
articles, books, chapters to imply that one group is inferior or a problem group despite their being
better explanations available. This concept angers me because I know it has been used and still very
might be still be used today to claimed outrageous claims that whites are the superior race because
they rigged or spun the experiment to make it seem this way. For instance, a lot of people claim that
African Americans are the problem group that is why they live in the worst neighborhoods, uses
drugs, teen pregnancy, poor education, gang activity so when a test comes between a white male and a
black male the white does better they can say by nature whites are smarter and they can so call back
up their claim with their study. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The reason why whites do better than blacks in education is because the whites have had a lot more
opportunities and a better environment to learn and better themselves. Furthermore, as for drug use
and gang activity when their family cannot afford to pay the bills and live day to day they must figure
out ways to survive legal or not and to protect themselves or have likeminded people support them
they will resort to gang activity because the police will not do anything. Lastly the reason they lived in
the worst or on the outskirts of the city is two reasons the first reason is that most likely that area is the
only area they can afford to live in and the second reason is that the people in power might have
intentionally raise prices in an area to kick out the unwanted races and to have the desired race or

Communication Is Essential For The Successful Execution Of...
The Communication Process is defined as the transmission of information, and the exchange of
meaning, between at least two people (Buchanan Huczynski, 2010). Throughout the business world, it
can be argued that comprehensible communication is imperative to the successful execution of
operations. Organizational effectiveness is extremely significant to any accountancy firm
predominantly due to how interlinked a company s accounts are which in turn causes employees and
managers to rely on the work of colleagues above and below them. Therefore clear communication is
essential to ensuring efficiency and a high quality of work. Through the essay we shall comment on
key barriers to communication, ranging from Differences in Power to Cultural and Language
differences , and construct strategic solutions which we believe would positively influence the
accountancy firm.
Barrier to Communication: Power Difference
Problem 1: Unapproachable superiors
Evidence suggests that employee communication has become significantly more important due to a
rise in alternative information notably on the Internet and the increase in employee expectations
(Buchanan Huczynski, 2010). However, throughout the business world, it can be argued that a
difference in power can have a detrimental effect on communication for both those who are in and
those who are not in power. This is notable for firms in industries such as accountancy, where a
hierarchical system is in place; there is a

Summary Of Immigrants And Crime Statistics
This article has brought up the truth when it comes to immigrants and crime statistics. With the
upcoming American elections, the topic of immigrants is widely debated and discussed upon.
Statistics which are given indicate that crime rates for immigrants are increasingly high. This instills
moral panic in communities when there is no reason evident reason to be afraid. The crime statistics of
immigrant crimes are exaggerated and emphasized upon. Crime rates as the article mentioned are low.
Immigrants are not solely responsible for committing crimes. Moral panic occurs since the elections
and Donald Trump is creating fear and hostility towards immigrants. The presentation of crime
statistics is heavily weighed upon. In order to validate a claim, statistics are used. This is what this
article indicates. Mr. Trump is using dated statistics to support his claim of dangerous immigrants.
These accusations can evidently make immigrants feel as if they are targeted by politicians which in
turn, can result in marginalization. The correlation of immigrants and crime rates is a myth. The media
portrays immigrants to be dangerous and responsible for crimes. This is not the case; not all

Personal Characteristics Of An Individual
Personal characteristics lead to the development of the personality of an individual. As a female, my
routine in each week as well as all my activities, help to develop my personality. I am an international
student from China, and my everyday plans help define the exact personality I possess. My essay will
include a plan for three days from the 26th of April to the 28th of April, where the three days will
present my personality traits through the personal characteristics that I possess. The essay will present
how adaptive, cautious, committed, cooperative, dependable, and well organized among other factors
that I am.
I start all my days by taking a shower for about 20 minutes after I wake up at 10 am. After I had
showered and dressed, I open my computer to check for my day schedules to identify the assignments
that ought to be turned in. While checking the daily routine and class assignments, I make a list on
notecard of the assignments that I need to turn in and other important events on my calendar. On April
26, I had a quiz and presentation to prepare. In my diary, I note that I also have a quiz of human
resource management class on 28th April, and I need to be prepared for it. Thus, I need to make time
to prepare for the quiz during the day. Once I am done with my morning activities, and listing all the
things that I need to do on that day, I prepare myself to leave. Prior to leaving my home, I text my

The Environmental Protection Of A Natural Gas Star Program
Introduction
As natural gas use continues to increase in the U.S. and throughout the world, new markets,
technologies and infrastructure have enabled companies to capitalize on the advantages delivered by
this non toxic, non corrosive and relatively clean burning fossil fuel.
With the increased focus on the benefits of LNG, however, global regulatory bodies and
environmentalist groups are also increasingly focused on the impact of natural gas extraction and
utilization. The hazardous effects of fugitive methane emissions are an ongoing source of scrutiny,
with LNG producers and standards committees both acutely aware of the importance of mitigating the
associated risks.

Unlike on/off valves, check valves are flow sensitive and rely on the line fluid to open and close.
Rather than offering emergency shutoff or complete flow control, check valves are intended only to
prevent reverse flow and the resultant damage to piping systems. Because of this, seat leakage rates
for check valves differ from those imposed on other valve types, and should be evaluated within the
appropriate constraints.
The industry has a large number of leak rate standards available (API 598, API 6D, MSS, BS6364,
Shell MESC SPE 77/300, ISO 5208, ANSI to name a few), and there is confusion in the industry
today about which requirements are the most appropriate to impose on check valves. This article will
review the valve industry seat leak rate standards, the purpose of each standard, and ultimately how
they relate to check valve selection and specifications. Furthermore, we will examine the purpose and
operation of check valves within LNG systems and discuss why ultra low leak rates are generally not
appropriate for check valves.
Leak Rate Specifications: Purpose and Practicality
The daily demands placed on check valves, including their constant exposure to fluid mediums, make
them highly susceptible to wear and other operational challenges like sticking, jamming and

The Teaching Of English As A Foreign Language Essay
The growing influence of western powers in the south east region, including Thailand, made it
inevitable for the people to interconnect with outsiders. Moreover, the impact of World War II, Anglo
American economic, technology, scientific and cultural activity has come to dominate the world as the
whole, as a result, English has become the primary global lingua franca (Darasawang, Reinders,
Waters, 2015, p. 2) . The teaching of English as a foreign language (TEFL) in Thailand has initially
started from the mid 19th century and it still plays the predominant role in Thai education nowadays.
The national English curriculum made a major paradigm shift in mandating English as a compulsory
subject in schools and universities. The English teaching method was influenced by western
educational ideology of values system or classical humanism where knowledge is seen as a set of
revealed truths possessed by the teacher whose task is to pass it on to the learners (J. L. Clark,
1987cited in Darasawang, Reinders, Waters, 2015).Thus, the dominant teaching method has been
grammar translation . Todd (2005cited in Darasawang, Reinders and Walter, 2015, p.3) stated that
English teaching in Thailand has been dominated by the traditional talk and chalk approach where
classrooms are teacher centered and explanation of English grammar given in Thai predominate...this
traditional approach is still the most common...

Polycephalum Essay
Physarum Polycephalum is a slime mold that has a yellow coloring to it and it resides in areas of
shade, cool temperatures and moisture. Not only does this slime mold have the name Physarum
Polycephalum, but it is also referred to as Polycephalum as suggested by (Jabr, 2012). P.
Polycephalum is a multicellular microbe that feeds fungal spores and other microbes because the
organisms are heterotrophic (Sauer, 1986). P. Polycephalum is very interesting because it has traits of
both fungi and animals, which I find very interesting. It has this ability to move around where it is
located to find food by engulfing and surrounding it, and it does this by going through enzyme
secretion. Although we know a lot about this organism, for many years it was mistaken as fungi due to
the fact that it was thought to be heterotrophic but through further analysis it was removed from that
category because they realized that fungi is not as mobile as this organism. P. Polycephalum doesn t
have a cell wall but fungi have cell walls made of chitin, which lead to the line being drawn between
these two organisms (Ashworth and Dee, 1975).
The most ideal habitat for P. Polycephalum is a moist and shady region but not only is it suitable for P.
Polycephalum but its also suitable for bacteria, archea and protists that it feeds on (Jabr, 2012). When
it engulfs its food, it grows with the help of Phagocytosis and then it becomes a mass of multinucleate
protoplasm, which then has a bright yellow color,

is somewhat vulnerable to the Coyote. The coyote finds the buffalo s skulls on the ground and throws
it around, because he is dead. Little does he know, the buffalo comes to life and chases him. The
buffalo ends up giving the coyote a chance, because he wants new horns, to kill the young buffalo.
The Buffalo kills the young buffalo and takes the herd back. In return of the sharp horns, he gives

promises to do this, but ends up becoming very sick of eating the fat, and kills the buffalo. In
American society, we value loyalty, trust, and honesty. In this book even though the coyote is doing
bad, we are still on his side. This often happens in society too, the bad people look good in others

Harvard Health has suggested that depression may alter how eyes function[,] making the world seem
flat and/or gray through color shape and contrast (Harvard Publishing). In a more literal sense, Jane
views her life, and the winter, as gray. Her analysis of the environment and surroundings might not be
metaphorical, but actually quite literal. Jane s grim view of Gateshead affects her. However, when she
leaves for Lowood she learns to be happy. Despite this, her depression continues to influence her life.
She feels that she needs to be part of a family and experience those family dynamics to be whole. Her
time at Thornfield supports this.
While Jane s time at Gateshead demonstrated her immense sadness, Jane s time at Thornfield reveals
her sadness through depression, as it begins to evolve into anger and an internal struggle. Her
correlation with madness and anger begins to appear when she goes into the attic. She states I climbed
the three staircases, raised the trapdoor of the attic, and having reached the leads looked out afar over
sequestered field and hill, and along the dim skyline that then I longed (Bronte 114). Jane is trapped

The development of controlled fire meant that food could be haunted and cooked immediately so meat

Clothing was part of these new developments, prehistoric clothing consisted of fur, grass, leaves and
leather that were wrapped or tied to the body in order to protect from elements of the time.
Archeologist have seen objects like handmade needles that were used to sew these clothing s in order
to create different items to keep them warm and dry. A main disadvantage of most prehistoric clothing
was that the materials would deteriorate quite fast, later on the next generation of humans found
themselves creating more durable and wearable pieces of clothing. Neanderthals faced harsh climates
there were parts of Northern Asia and Europe that had series of Ice ages, because of this man had to
step up and create something to keep their body heat. With the creation of tools in order to hunt they
found themselves hunting deer, mammoths and bears which provided large, thick and furry coats for
them. At first their clothing tended to be simple by making holes in the head and arm area letting them
drape all over their bodies. Later on it can be seen that they grew more and more sophisticated by
creating strips to wrap their clothing in place sort of like belts.
After Neanderthals there came the invention of the tunics by the Cro Magnon people they mainly

Django Unchained Essay
For the movie assignment in this class I felt it was best to pick a film that I was very familiar with.
After careful consideration of a few of my personal favorite movies I choses the film Django
Unchained. I chose this film because of how the elements of it line up with this assignment in a major
way. This film has both elements of good and bad characters and it is also a heroic story of good
beating bad.
To properly understand this movie it is important to first list the characters by good and bad roles. In
the good rules were characters such as Django and Dr. King Schultz. In the bad roles were characters
such as Calvin Candie and Stephen. The correlation between these two sets of characters helped the
movie become what is in a drastic way.
Much like many movies in the Django Unchained the good character often had to do bad things to
help accomplish the goal at hand. A great example of this in Django happens when Dr. Shultz offers to
buy D Artagnan from Candie in order to save his life. In this moment Django stops Dr. Shultz because
this purchase may expose their real intentions for making company with Candie. In ... Show more

These elements often times come to light during very defining moments in the movie. In the case of

were there. The shows his true sense of compassion towards the freedom of slaves because he could
ve simply purchase Django and one about his day. And example of good in Django s character
happens later in the movie when he avenges the death of D artagnan. While he openly let him die
earlier in the movie he avenges his death later because he knows that his death was unjust and that his
actions will stop future slaves from going through the same

The Influence Of Pen Names In The Victoria Era
Pen names change peoples lives. Pen Names are something that authors used to use when writing their

can also help to provide legal advice in various types of matters. They can also represent you in a
court of law. There are various benefits of hiring a solicitor. In particular, For example, it can help to
avoid taking legal action when it s unnecessary. After consulting the counsel of a solicitor, you might
discover that you can avoid taking legal action in a certain situation, and instead try to take other
actions that don t involve filing a case that s handled in an Australian court of law. That can help to
save a lot of money, as well as stress and other issues. Another benefit of hiring a solicitor is that it can
avoid making a bad situation worse. By filing documents with the wrong phrasing, or taking certain
actions that aren t legal, you could actually make a matter worse than it originally was. On the other

Family Assessment Research Paper
Family Assessment
Introduction and identification of family
The family is the basic unit of society. When a family member becomes ill, the entire family is
affected. Family assessment is important because assessing the family s structure and style will help
formulate an effective teaching plan. It also helps to examine the strengths and barriers in the family.
Health promotion and health maintenance for children and their families are foundational for all
nursing care. Having specific knowledge about one s genetic makeup and associated increased risk for
disease provides a basis for health screening and may provide motivation for people to maintain a
healthy lifestyle. Early diagnosis allows early intervention with health promoting care specific ...

People with Huntington disease fatigue easily, so it is important for him to take several short breaks
throughout the day. Physical activity is also important. It can be as simple as walking around the
block. Incorporating exercise and movement in the daily routine is very important.
Conservation of structural integrity
Apathy and decreased motivation are two of the most disabling symptoms of Huntington s disease,
which could be wrongfully labelled as laziness. To prevent pressure ulcers, G.S should be included in
activities that rely mainly on gross motor skills such as sweeping, raking leaves, bringing the clothes
in off the line, and folding the clothes.
Conservation of personal integrity
People with HD, and particularly those living in residential care facilities, often lose their identities
when caregivers and support staff become too intensely focused on their medical care and support
needs. Immediate physical needs have to be balanced with opportunities for individuals to be
recognized as more than just a disease . Creating a personal print or video diary, a scrap book or a
photo album is one enjoyable way for people to record their interests and personal histories. It can also
be used as a tool to stimulate discussion and reinforce the person s identity as the disease

To be able to analyze the project, we need to calculate the project s NPV, IRR, MIRR, Payback Period,
and Profitability Index.
Since net working capital is built up ahead of sales, the initial cash flow depends in part on this cash
outflow. So, we will begin by calculating sales. Each year, the company will sell 600,000 tons under
contract, and the rest on the spot market. The total sales revenue is the price per ton under contract
times 600,000 tons, plus the spot market sales times the spot market price. The sales per year will be:
| Year | | 1 | 2 | 3 | 4 | Contract | $ 20,000,000 | $ 20,000,000 | $ 20,000,000 | $ 20,000,000 | Spot | ...

Book value of equipment = $ 11,148,600
Since the market value of the equipment is $20.4 million, the equipment is sold at a gain to book
value, so the sale will incur the taxes of:
Taxes on sale of equipment = ($20,400,000 11,148,600 )(.38) = $3,515,532
And the after tax salvage value of the equipment is:
After tax salvage value = $20,400,000 3,515,532
After tax salvage value = $16,884,468
So, the net cash flows each year, including the operating cash flow, net working capital, and after tax

Benefit Of Community Service
Benefits of Community Service Community service contributes to a community in the same way that
quarterbacks, wide receivers, and offensive linemen contribute to a football team. Without people
helping out, there wouldn t be a way to score a touchdown or win a game. It is the same way in
helping out a community. The more people there are helping out, more homes would be built, more
mouths would be fed, and more people would have a happy life. Some people take for granted the
clothes they have on their backs and the table they get to eat dinner at with their family. There are
plenty of people in communities that do not have a home to come to every night. There are plenty of
people that do not have the clothes, food, or money they need to survive. People are not the only thing
that needs help in the community. Animal shelters are also one of many that could always use an extra
hand. Recycling and picking up trash is another way to help out. One of the best ways to contribute to
the community is volunteering and contributing time to helping others. Studies show that community
service contributes to the emotional, mental, and physical well being of people at any age. The
Corporation for National and Community Service (CNCS) says in the year 2013, 138 million
American adults volunteered. To break it down, the CNCS found the following information: adults
between the ages of 35 44 had the highest volunteer rate, adults between the ages 45 54 had the
second highest, and one in

The Consequences Of Jutigment In Twelve Angry Men
In society, we have an obligation to our community to defend it by using judgment to determine a
person s innocence or guilt. It is a civic responsibility to make an informed decision that is determined
based on evidence to help come to a logical conclusion. This essay argues that judgment in Twelve
Angry Men is addressed by the jury who think rationally against a 16 year old kid facing the death
sentence.
It looks at the gender and ethnicity of the jury and suggests that the environment the jurors are placed
in forwards their own judgment on themselves, making judgment become an empathetic experience.
The placement of 12 men in a jury shows inconsistency towards female s input upon what judgment
should be made for the accused. Inserting 12 men together only evokes testosterone against one
another affecting their critical thinking and causing drama. For Juror, 7 judgment is a fast process and
is addressed in the drama as Rose (121) states that, 7th Juror, Listen, I ll tell you something. I m a little
sick of this whole thing already. All this yakkin s gettin us nowhere so I m going to break it up here. I
m changing my vote to not guilty. 11th Juror, What kind of man are you? You have sat here and voted
guilty with everyone else because there are some baseball tickets burning a hole in your pocket .
The drama is now directed away from the accused of murder and now towards Juror 7 that shows
irony towards the relevance of importance. It is from the example above we see

Thomas Aquina s vs. Descarates Essays
THOMAS AQUINA S V. DESCARATES Meditation III Several hundred years ago, two great
philosophers Thomas Aquinas s and Rene Descartes used the method of ontological argument for the
existence of God and used intuition and reason alone to get to each other s theory. Rene Descartes
wrote out several mediations, but the one we re going to touch base on is meditation III that he wrote
in the 1600 s; While Thomas Aquinas s wrote his five proofs of God in 1270 that specifies God s
existence in each proof; the one that gives the best argument is the existence of God in his III proof.
While both philosophers provide great information about their reason about God, Thomas Aquinas s
and Rene Descartes both attempt to prove the existence of God, but ... Show more content on

Than there has to be something that already existed to make everything exist and for that to happen
that had to be someone, so that is God. Aquinas also pointed one in one of his earlier proofs of the
First Mover. Aquinas says that anything moved is moved by another, so there must be a first mover (a
mover that is not itself moved by another) and that first mover is God. Both of the philosophers used
great methods to come to their conclusion about how god came into existence. They both used
different thinking methods to get to their well respected arguments but did come to the conclusion that
God does exist . I believe the key difference about the two philosophers was the time difference
between the philosophers, Thomas Aquinas wrote his proofs in the medieval ages around the 1200 s
while ( with no disrespect) Rene Descartes wrote his meditation in the 1600 s. There is a big 400 year
gap between ideas are compared but that came down to the same conclusion So in the end, Thomas
Aquinas and Rene Descartes both attempted to prove the existence of God, but they differ in respect to
the different thought processes to obtain the existence of God. An still to this day both Philosophers
are regarded as key factor in the world of philosophy and their arguments were so influential that they
were able to land a spot in our textbook THE GREAT CONVERSATION . But thanks to these
gentlemen and their contributions to their works were able

Police Misconduct And The Police
Hands up, don t shoot! This quote went viral after unarmed Michael Brown, was killed by St. Louis
police. A person is considered unarmed if he or she is not in possession of a weapon at the time of the
shooting or was holding an object unlikely to inflict serious injury, such as a stick or a broom handle
(Somashekhar). The killing of this young man went viral after video footage shows him with his hands
in the air, surrendering, and the police piercing his body with twelve bullet wounds. This incident has
lead to the question of, What do we do now to protect our civilians from this brutal police conduct?
Many introduced the idea of Police Body Cameras, which is proven to allow police misconduct to be
reduced. This technology has been verified to reveal instances of police misconduct, build trust
between the police and the community, and to give video evidence to improve the ability to prosecute
cases.
For every 1,000 people killed by police, only one officer is convicted of a crime( 5 facts ). According
to Washington Post, On April 11, 2015, officer Coleman Duke Brackney was on the way to check out
a drunk driver, after finding him, the driver encountered a chase before running into a ditch. Brackney,
then accused the man of trying to back his car up and run him over shot the man in the back through
the back window of the car, killing 47 year old James Ahern. He was charged with felony
manslaughter but eventually enter a plea to a lesser charge and was to be left

The Importance Of Threats In Birds
While in modern birds, CML originates on the pygostyle if present, since it had been either absent or
reduced among most birds. Hemal arches were observed in Sapeornis, but not in Confuciusornis. The
formation of the pygostyle alone is to enough to cause abrupt reduction of CML in Confuciusornis and
in living birds. Researchers believed the complex functional repertoire of extant bird tails was most
likely a result of decoupling of the tail from the hindlimbs, with further adaptations within the tail
involving flight. Next, researchers performed a developmental analysis on the tail structures. During
tail extension, the retinoic acid (RA) gradient is opposed by posterior Wnt3a/Fgf8 gradient. Wnts and

Rashid, et al. 2014). The study also shown Hoxb13 also was able to inhibit neuronal proliferation, this
ensures the lack of spinal ganglia at the end of the tail. Another ability of Hoxb13 was intersecting the
Wnt/Fgf/RA gradient by decreasing concentrations of Cyp26a1, this also leads to tail termination.
Researchers also believed that there should be one or more mutations involve in the transition of bird
tails from long theropod tails to short avian tails with distal pygostyle. Changes in cis regulatory
regions (CREs) were most likely responsible for this phenotypic change. Despite the lack of dinosaur
DNA, researchers were still able to examine gene pathways that generated dinosaur traits through an
evolutionary developmental biology, also known as the evo devo approach. In order to narrow down
the list of genes that may have been modulated by mutation, they looked at the genetic analysis of the
mouse, because mouse has the greatest accumulated data on mutations among all other vertebrate.
From the MGI Jackson Laboratories database, only two mutants, the Hoxb13 and Slx4 knockout mice,
among the 159 mutants with affected tails have a modest increased in the numbers of caudal vertebrae.
The study suggests that the early decoupling of the tail from hind limb may have facilitated tail
shortening through a process of relaxed purifying selection

Define business profiles, processes, and modeling..
A business profile is an overview that defines a company s overall functions, processes, organization,
products, services, customers, suppliers, competitors, constraints, and future direction. A business
process describes specific events, tasks, and desired results. To understand a company s operations,
systems analysts first develop a business profile and then create a series of business models. A
business model graphically represents business functions that consist of business processes such as
sales, accounting, and purchasing that perform specific tasks. (Pages 10 11)

An information system has five key components: hardware, software, data, processes, and people.
People who have an interest in an information system are called stakeholders. Stakeholder groups
include the management group responsible for the system; the users, sometimes called end users,
inside and outside the company who will interact with the system; and IT staff members, such as
systems analysts, programmers, and network administrators who develop and support the system

What Makes a Hospital a Top 100 Hospital Essay What Makes a Top 100 Hospital Ronald Regan UCLA Medical Center What Makes a Top 100 Hospital Castellanos, Juan Manuel DeVry University What Makes a Top 100 Hospital? Since 1993, the Truven Health 100 Top Hospitals program has used both independent and objective research to guide hospital and health system performance. In this process, they analyze public data sources to compare hospitals to similar organizations. The 100 Top Hospitals program uses a balanced scorecard that incorporates public data, proprietary, peer reviewed methodology and key performance metrics to arrive at an objective, independent analysis of hospital or health system performance. Well, the sitting on 4 acres the hospital encompasses Ronald Regan UCLA Medical center, Stewart and Lynda Resnick Neuropsychiatric Hospital at UCLA and Mattel Children s Hospital UCLA. Some key features I found extremely helpful is their organization. Every floor of Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center is devoted to a specific specialty and equipped with all of the essential support equipment and supplies. Every floor has its own satellite pharmacy, dialysis storage, respiratory therapy workrooms, and resident doctor sleep rooms. Additionally; each patient room has the ability to convert into an intensive care unit (ICU) to allow for the continuous care of a critically ill patient in one room. This makes caring for patients extremely easy as everything they need is made available to them at the exact moment of a potential emergency. (Ronald Regan UCLA Medical Center, 2013) One other element that seems to help with its rating is their Healing by design architectural concept. Renowned architects I.M. Pei and C.C. Pei of Pei Partnership Architects designed Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center, with the firm of Perkins amp; Will serving as the executive architect. Their vision was to construct an environment that enhances healing. The design is open and light filled, organized in pavilions with glass walls facing outdoors, and includes gardens and gathering places. • 4. Analysis Of David Orr s The Principle Of Mastering Oneself An important point in which David Orr goes into considerable detail about is his six principles to rethink education. First, he ensures that all education is environmental education by every mean. In western education particularly, students are more often taught that they are apart of taught that they are apart from the natural world, or above it if you will. Leesa Fawcett enforces this idea on page 107 by stating: We have been taught to measure, manage, exploit the environment, to make money off of it on the back s of others near and far. We ve been encouraged to ignore it, to stay out of its messy dirty places. To ignore it is to ignore ourselves, our bodies, our forces and our relationships Fawcett implies that undeniably students are being taught that education is the way to success and success means exploiting the environment and ignoring the importance of sustainability. Next Orr uses the Greek term, Paideia to formulate his principle of mastering oneself is the goal of education and subjects are the tools of doing so (Orr, 2004, pg. 9). The current education system looks at specializing in one particular subject, and being really knowledgeable in that subject alone is what education strives for. However, one simply cannot just study one specific subject with no reflection on others, because that is what aids one in formulating their own ideas and understandings of not only that subject but their position in the world as well. His idea calls upon ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 7. Oedipus The King Jocasta When reading the drama Oedipus the King written by Sophocles, the reader can notice many different lessons and point of views that are shown in this story. For example, one point of view shown in Sophocles drama is that sons are attracted to their mothers and vice versa. The scholar, Weather, goes more in depth in his article Mother and Sons of why he thinks this happens. He states that this attraction between mother and son could have been passed down generation after generation, ever since the interrelationship between Eve and her sons (Weather). Another theme Sophocles wrote about in this story is that no one can deny their destiny. Jocasta tries her best to change her destiny, but at the end of the day she couldn t. She didn t have the heart to do it herself so decides to give that burden to her servant. Scholar Newton states in his article that a psychologist might suggest that Jocasta manages to suppress her guilt over the abandonment of her baby all these years by treating her husband as if he were indeed her son (Newton). During the drama, the audience is convinced that this is true because every time Oedipus is mad Jocasta would do anything possible to comfort him like any other mother would. Another example of her motherly instincts towards Oedipus is when he is close to the truth. She tells him to stop looking into the story, yet Oedipus would not listen. Jocasta tries to stop him because she doesn t want him to suffer by the news. Scholarly Newton states that she unwittingly behaves like a mother concerned that her son do nothing to disgrace the family in the eye of the public. (Newton) Oedipus thought Jocasta is trying to protect him from finding out that his family is poor. If only he listen to her instead of being stubborn, he would have never known the truth and Jocasta could possibly still be alive. Burns are injuries caused either by heat, chemicals, sunlight, radiation, or electricity (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, (n.d.). Statistics show most burn injuries for women and children occur in the home and for men they typically occur at the workplace. They are classified as first, second, or third degree, usually by how deep and severely they breach the skins surface (World Health Organization, (2017, January). It s important to know the signs and symptoms of a burn injury to ensure the right kind of medical treatment is provided. Classifications First degree burns only cause damage to the outer layer of the skin also known as the epidermis. Second degree burn damage extends as far as the dermis layer, which is the layer beneath the epidermis (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, (n.d.). These burns sometimes will need a skin graft to enclose the area and protect it while in the healing process. • 9. Unknown Vs Evil In Frankenstein One of the many themes in James Whale s 1931 film Frankenstein is that of the known vs the unknown or good vs evil. Whale uses the motif of fire as a powerful extension of what the good can do to the darkness. Fire is used as a way to keep the Monster or the evil representation of the film in isolation and outside of the known world and also as a way to show that the known or good will always win against the unknown or evil. Known vs unknown or good vs evil falls into the category of a knowledge narrative according to Andrew Tudor. Tudor says that the narrative itself functions by proposing the existence of a body of knowledge capable of mediating between these domains of known and unknown (83). The first distinct moment where there is realization of the darkness/unknown trying to seep into the world of the light/known is when Henry Frankenstein says that his monster has only been kept in complete darkness and to wait until [he] brings him into the light (30:30 30:35). After his speech the Monster walks into the room and Frankenstein closes the light as if to wait for the right moment to bring him into light or the world of the known. When the Monster finally sits down on a chair, Frankenstein opens the window on the roof to reveal the sunlight (32:07). Once the sunlight is revealed to the Monster, it slowly turns his head upwards and walks very slowly and carefully into the light. It is vital to pack the sample tightly in the melting point capillary, to allow good heat transfer from the capillary walls to the crystals. The less air is present, the better the heat will transfer. An unknown compound is suspected to be acetanilide (mp 113.5°C 114°C). What would happen to the melting point if this unknown were mixed with (a) an equal quantity of pure acetanilide? (b) an equal quantity of benzoic acid? Teacher s professional practice is developed over time in various ways, for example through experience and reflection (Tack et al, 2014). My professional practice was informed by Meeting Children s Needs module as it educated me on how to assist children to become successful learners. This can be achieved through various strategies that meet the diverse needs of every child. The National Curriculum (National Curriculum, 2000) has at times been ambiguous on the matter of inclusion as it is a contentious term. Hence it is important that schools embrace diversity to ensure effective learning of all takes place. Each child is special and as a practitioner working with children I have to be aware of all issues surrounding children s lives as outside factors affect learning. This essay will focus on the case studies of Charlotte and Pinkesh to illustrate how these case studies educated me on how to deal with children in similar situations and how my professional practice has been developed. These concepts of meeting children s needs prepared me for my SEL experience in many ways. Firstly, it allowed me to understand the importance of inclusion and how this was crucial to effective learning. One pupil I profiled was Jake; not given a SEN statement, however the teacher ensured she differentiated, in turn enhancing his learning. Jake was very capable but he had behavioural issues and suffered from low self esteem: very shy and liked working on his own. After his work was completed he would act out. This behaviour was similar to the case study of Charlotte as her behaviour deteriorated for attention. Charlotte just like Jake had low self esteem; these children need to be given challenging work so they can reach their full potential. Maslow points to the importance of self esteem and as a need by all to feel valued (Maslow, 1954, p.91). Banks has argued that having good ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Painters soon took to painting to express themselves and observers began to appreciate meaning and symbolism in paintings. This helped different forms of storytelling to blossom and for painters to become more reconized. Li s painting influenced an art to become loved by the public, and many believe it s due to the meaning Li put into the painting. The painting has deep meaning in it, and the lesson expressed is the focal point of the painting instead of background symbolism. Filial Piety means to respect one s parents and ancestors. • 19. The Remains Of The Day Protagonists of novels should be relatable and realistic. They should be individuals with whom readers can easily identify, and consequently should be painted with as much humanity as possible. Mr. Stevens, the protagonist of Kazuo Ishiguro s novel The Remains of the Day, is no exception. He is meant to be an incredibly human character, and consequently it makes sense that the reader should seek to define his flaws and limits, and whether or not he exhibits spiritual imprisonment , as Robert Stone terms it. Of course, it is necessary to identify exactly what spiritual imprisonment is. At its core, spiritual imprisonment can be defined as someone being restricted by someone or something else from pursuing what they value. The character of Stevens that Ishiguro draws in his short narrative, and the personal values that Stevens subtly exhibits, suggest that Stevens, while misguided in his values for a large portion of the book, is free to pursue those values, and consequently is not spiritually imprisoned. Before delving further into an analysis of Ishiguro s protagonist, it is absolutely necessary to identify exactly what Stevens values. He values and meditates on throughout the entirety of the novel dignity. Specifically, Stevens posit[s] that dignity has to do crucially with a butler s ability not to abandon the professional being he inhabits (Ishiguro, 42). Moreover, he reflects that the great butlers are great by virtue of their ability to inhabit their ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 20. The Impact Of Air Bags On A Car Safety Device Impact Analysis of Air Bags Name : Kevin Agrawal ID. No 2013A4PS254G Details of the reference paper used : http://www nrd.nhtsa.dot.gov/pubs/806572.pdf Introduction An airbag is a vehicle safety device consisting of a flexible fabric bag, also known as an airbag cushion. The airbag module is designed to inflate rapidly then quickly deflate during a collision or impact with another object or a sudden deceleration. The purpose of the airbag is to provide occupant protection and restraint during a crash event. The introduction of the air bags dates back to 11th July 1984 when the United States government amended (FMVSS 208), to require cars produced after 1 April 1989 to be equipped with a passive restraint for the driver. Hence an airbag along with and seat belt would meet the requirements of the standard. The invention of the airbags is credited to the German engineer Walter Linderer and North American John W. Hetrick who in 1951 registered for the first airbag patents. The airbag cushions manufactured world wide are constructed with fabric made from nylon 6,6 yarn. Air bags are actually inflated by a solid rocket booster. Sodium azide (NaN3) and potassium nitrate (KNO3) react very quickly to produce a large pulse of hot nitrogen gas. This gas inflates the bag, which literally bursts out of the steering wheel or dashboard as it expands. Airbags need to inflate at an extremely fast rate in order to be fully inflated by the time a person s body begins to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This sheer amazement occurs when one is so astonished at what his eyes lay upon that his body forgets all functions, as if each muscle and organ is in envy of what the eyes are rewarded with. (Definition) As if on cue, the aroma of peppers comes upon us as we look upon the clear, turquoise water waving back and forth in front of us between the immaculate palm trees swaying in the light breeze. We follow our taxi driver to his car and enter, only to hear music that would never be played in America. It sounds like an upbeat Caribbean or Jamaican tune, which clearly represents the mood of everyone who lives in Bermuda, and soon us as well. This drive to the resort is one of the most exquisite 15 minute journeys I will ever undergo, and I already know that this trip will be an unforgettable experience. With the forming of colonies in the New World, slaves from Africa were brought across the Atlantic and these slaves lived a different life compared to their African counterparts. Slavery in these two continents differed in how slaves were handled, who the slaves were, and how long they were to be enslaved. The slaves of Africa were people who owed debts, were prisoners of war, or committed a crime (Franklin and Higginbotham 10). The Harrowing Story Of Harriet Jacobs The harrowing story of Harriet Jacobs experiences with slavery opens the reader s eyes to the special cruelty women endured under the watchful eye of their masters and mistresses. And while Jacobs openly admits that slavery is terrible fate for both men and women, there are additional burdens added to women who are forced to live under the commands of another. Jacobs writes, Slavery is terrible for men; but it is far more terrible for women. Superadded to the burden common to all, they have wrongs, and sufferings, and mortifications peculiarly their own. This peculiar suffering Jacobs speaks of is often related to the morality of the soul, and the persistent pressure that women must endure under the control of their master, especially concerning rape and sexual harassment. Added on top of the physical punishment that all slaves experience, women, especially those born with beauty, suffer from moral failings when a master forces himself upon them. Furthermore, an additional pain women must endure, is that of motherhood. In a matriarchal society, women are responsible for the wellbeing of others, as was the case with Linda s grandmother. Women has additional tethers to their lives which only serve to increase the pains of slavery. For instance, a lot of people claim that African Americans are the problem group that is why they live in the worst neighborhoods, uses drugs, teen pregnancy, poor education, gang activity so when a test comes between a white male and a black male the white does better they can say by nature whites are smarter and they can so call back up their claim with their study. ... The Communication Process is defined as the transmission of information, and the exchange of meaning, between at least two people (Buchanan Huczynski, 2010). Throughout the business world, it can be argued that comprehensible communication is imperative to the successful execution of operations. Organizational effectiveness is extremely significant to any accountancy firm predominantly due to how interlinked a company s accounts are which in turn causes employees and managers to rely on the work of colleagues above and below them. Therefore clear communication is essential to ensuring efficiency and a high quality of work. Through the essay we shall comment on key barriers to communication, ranging from Differences in Power to Cultural and Language differences , and construct strategic solutions which we believe would positively influence the accountancy firm. Barrier to Communication: Power Difference Problem 1: Unapproachable superiors Evidence suggests that employee communication has become significantly more important due to a rise in alternative information notably on the Internet and the increase in employee expectations (Buchanan Huczynski, 2010). Rather than offering emergency shutoff or complete flow control, check valves are intended only to prevent reverse flow and the resultant damage to piping systems. The Teaching Of English As A Foreign Language Essay The growing influence of western powers in the south east region, including Thailand, made it inevitable for the people to interconnect with outsiders. Moreover, the impact of World War II, Anglo American economic, technology, scientific and cultural activity has come to dominate the world as the whole, as a result, English has become the primary global lingua franca (Darasawang, Reinders, Waters, 2015, p. 2) . The teaching of English as a foreign language (TEFL) in Thailand has initially started from the mid 19th century and it still plays the predominant role in Thai education nowadays. The national English curriculum made a major paradigm shift in mandating English as a compulsory subject in schools and universities. Not only does this slime mold have the name Physarum Polycephalum, but it is also referred to as Polycephalum as suggested by (Jabr, 2012). P. Polycephalum is a multicellular microbe that feeds fungal spores and other microbes because the organisms are heterotrophic (Sauer, 1986). P. Polycephalum is very interesting because it has traits of both fungi and animals, which I find very interesting. It has this ability to move around where it is located to find food by engulfing and surrounding it, and it does this by going through enzyme secretion. Although we know a lot about this organism, for many years it was mistaken as fungi due to the fact that it was thought to be heterotrophic but through further analysis it was removed from that category because they realized that fungi is not as mobile as this organism. P. Polycephalum doesn t have a cell wall but fungi have cell walls made of chitin, which lead to the line being drawn between these two organisms (Ashworth and Dee, 1975). The most ideal habitat for P. Polycephalum is a moist and shady region but not only is it suitable for P. Polycephalum but its also suitable for bacteria, archea and protists that it feeds on (Jabr, 2012). The death of their leader signaled the start of the mass genocide of the Tutsi people that the Hutus had been planning for a number of years. The mass genocide began a day after the assassination on April 7, 1994 and lasted until July 16, 1994 (Beauchamp, 2014). The genocide ended when the Rwandan Patriotic Front defeated the Hutu perpetrator regime and a new president rose to power, President Paul Kagame. When the destruction ended in July, over two million Hutus fled from Rwanda. • 38. Django Unchained Essay For the movie assignment in this class I felt it was best to pick a film that I was very familiar with. After careful consideration of a few of my personal favorite movies I choses the film Django Unchained. I chose this film because of how the elements of it line up with this assignment in a major way. This film has both elements of good and bad characters and it is also a heroic story of good beating bad. To properly understand this movie it is important to first list the characters by good and bad roles. In the good rules were characters such as Django and Dr. King Schultz. In the bad roles were characters such as Calvin Candie and Stephen. The correlation between these two sets of characters helped the movie become what is in a drastic way. Much like many movies in the Django Unchained the good character often had to do bad things to help accomplish the goal at hand. A great example of this in Django happens when Dr. Shultz offers to buy D Artagnan from Candie in order to save his life. In this moment Django stops Dr. Shultz because this purchase may expose their real intentions for making company with Candie. In ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... These elements often times come to light during very defining moments in the movie. In the case of Django Unchained this fact is no different. For example, one element that defined Dr. Shultz as a good guy was the fact that when he purchasing Django out of slavery he also freed all of the slaves that were there. The shows his true sense of compassion towards the freedom of slaves because he could ve simply purchase Django and one about his day. And example of good in Django s character happens later in the movie when he avenges the death of D artagnan. While he openly let him die earlier in the movie he avenges his death later because he knows that his death was unjust and that his actions will stop future slaves from going through the same ... • 44. Benefit Of Community Service Benefits of Community Service Community service contributes to a community in the same way that quarterbacks, wide receivers, and offensive linemen contribute to a football team. Without people helping out, there wouldn t be a way to score a touchdown or win a game. It is the same way in helping out a community. The more people there are helping out, more homes would be built, more mouths would be fed, and more people would have a happy life. Some people take for granted the clothes they have on their backs and the table they get to eat dinner at with their family. There are plenty of people in communities that do not have a home to come to every night. There are plenty of people that do not have the clothes, food, or money they need to survive. People are not the only thing that needs help in the community. Animal shelters are also one of many that could always use an extra hand. Recycling and picking up trash is another way to help out. One of the best ways to contribute to the community is volunteering and contributing time to helping others. Studies show that community service contributes to the emotional, mental, and physical well being of people at any age. The Corporation for National and Community Service (CNCS) says in the year 2013, 138 million American adults volunteered. • 45. The Consequences Of Jutigment In Twelve Angry Men In society, we have an obligation to our community to defend it by using judgment to determine a person s innocence or guilt. It is a civic responsibility to make an informed decision that is determined based on evidence to help come to a logical conclusion. This essay argues that judgment in Twelve Angry Men is addressed by the jury who think rationally against a 16 year old kid facing the death sentence. It looks at the gender and ethnicity of the jury and suggests that the environment the jurors are placed in forwards their own judgment on themselves, making judgment become an empathetic experience. The placement of 12 men in a jury shows inconsistency towards female s input upon what judgment should be made for the accused. Inserting 12 men together only evokes testosterone against one another affecting their critical thinking and causing drama. For Juror, 7 judgment is a fast process and is addressed in the drama as Rose (121) states that, 7th Juror, Listen, I ll tell you something. I m a little sick of this whole thing already. DESCARATES Meditation III Several hundred years ago, two great philosophers Thomas Aquinas s and Rene Descartes used the method of ontological argument for the existence of God and used intuition and reason alone to get to each other s theory. Rene Descartes wrote out several mediations, but the one we re going to touch base on is meditation III that he wrote in the 1600 s; While Thomas Aquinas s wrote his five proofs of God in 1270 that specifies God s existence in each proof; the one that gives the best argument is the existence of God in his III proof. Aquinas also pointed one in one of his earlier proofs of the First Mover. Aquinas says that anything moved is moved by another, so there must be a first mover (a mover that is not itself moved by another) and that first mover is God. Both of the philosophers used great methods to come to their conclusion about how god came into existence. They both used different thinking methods to get to their well respected arguments but did come to the conclusion that God does exist . I believe the key difference about the two philosophers was the time difference between the philosophers, Thomas Aquinas wrote his proofs in the medieval ages around the 1200 s while ( with no disrespect) Rene Descartes wrote his meditation in the 1600 s. There is a big 400 year gap between ideas are compared but that came down to the same conclusion So in the end, Thomas Aquinas and Rene Descartes both attempted to prove the existence of God, but they differ in respect to the different thought processes to obtain the existence of God. A person is considered unarmed if he or she is not in possession of a weapon at the time of the shooting or was holding an object unlikely to inflict serious injury, such as a stick or a broom handle (Somashekhar). The killing of this young man went viral after video footage shows him with his hands in the air, surrendering, and the police piercing his body with twelve bullet wounds. This incident has lead to the question of, What do we do now to protect our civilians from this brutal police conduct? Many introduced the idea of Police Body Cameras, which is proven to allow police misconduct to be reduced. This technology has been verified to reveal instances of police misconduct, build trust between the police and the community, and to give video evidence to improve the ability to prosecute cases. For every 1,000 people killed by police, only one officer is convicted of a crime( 5 facts ). Hemal arches were observed in Sapeornis, but not in Confuciusornis. The formation of the pygostyle alone is to enough to cause abrupt reduction of CML in Confuciusornis and in living birds. Researchers believed the complex functional repertoire of extant bird tails was most likely a result of decoupling of the tail from the hindlimbs, with further adaptations within the tail involving flight. Researchers also believed that there should be one or more mutations involve in the transition of bird tails from long theropod tails to short avian tails with distal pygostyle. Changes in cis regulatory regions (CREs) were most likely responsible for this phenotypic change. Despite the lack of dinosaur DNA, researchers were still able to examine gene pathways that generated dinosaur traits through an evolutionary developmental biology, also known as the evo devo approach. In order to narrow down the list of genes that may have been modulated by mutation, they looked at the genetic analysis of the mouse, because mouse has the greatest accumulated data on mutations among all other vertebrate. From the MGI Jackson Laboratories database, only two mutants, the Hoxb13 and Slx4 knockout mice, among the 159 mutants with affected tails have a modest increased in the numbers of caudal vertebrae.
