Religious Freedom Restoration Act
A war on freedom is brewing in Indiana because a law that ostracizes LGBTQ community
members has been passed. This law is akin to the infamous Jim Crow laws based on the fact it
promotes segregation between the LGBTQ and surrounding communities. On March 26, 2015,
Indiana Governor Mike Pence signed Indiana Senate Bill 101, better known as the Religious
Freedom Restoration Act, into place. Under this law, a person or business owner s exercise of
religion is protected from persecution by the government, a right everyone is entitled to, but
bigoted business owners have taken to refusing service to members of the LGBTQ community,
claiming they violate their religious beliefs. I believe that this gratuitous allowance of homophobia
that infringes... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Rise Of Crime In America
The rise of crime in America seems like it is getting worse each and every year. To say that crime
only exist in the hood is an understatement. Crime is happening everywhere in our poverty

of crime weather it is murders, shoplifting, robberies it happens. Rising murders and homicides in
cities deserve attention now before it s too late and it s one of our loved ones.
Chicago getting the troops sent to help with the crime cases is a good idea. I do think that there can
be other ways that can lighten some of the violence in Chicago is by making stricter gun laws. I
think when a person that is dangerous get a hold of a weapon, that is not good and they should be
the biggest targeted people. I think that if people in Chicago do purchase a firearm they should be
required to take a gun course for a minimum of 20 hours at the most. I think that ll enlighten them

Internal Strengths And Weaknesses Of John Lewis
Summary
The aim of this report is to explore the internal strengths and weaknesses of John Lewis and the
external threats and opportunities for this organisation. Secondly, it will explore how John Lewis
could use this SWOT analysis to benefit them in the future.
Introduction
John Lewis is a British department store that operates in the United Kindom and is well known for
its Never Knowingly Undersold policy that brings quality products to the UK high streets and
online shopping. A SWOT analysisis intended to analyse the organisation s current status and its
potential for the future. Morrison (2011, p. 158) states that a SWOT analysis is a strategic tool
used by businesses to assess the organisation s strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats.
Using a SWOT analysis will encompass a detailed evaluation of the organisation for John Lewis,
which could be used to benefit the company in the future. As Wetherly Otter (2008, pp. 24 25)
says The capacity of a business to take advantage of opportunities and resist threats will depend on
its internal strengths and weaknesses. But if John Lewis has the internal strengths to undertake a
change a SWOT analysis will help as it was designed to enable an organisation to take into account
internal and external factors that may affect its strategic planning decisions and thus improve its
prospects of success (Harrison, 2014, p. 6).

empiricism Essay
Empiricism
Empiricism by nature is the belief that there is no knowledge without experience. How can one
know what something tastes like if they have never tasted it? For example, would someone know
that an apple is red if they have never actually have seen one. Someone can tell you an apple is red,
but, if you never have seen one, can you really be sure?
Empiricists use three anchor points in which they derive their opinions from. The first of these
points is; the only source of genuine knowledge is sense experience. An easier way to understand
this is to compare the mind to a clean sponge. As the sponge touches things, it takes with it, a piece
of everything it touches. Without this, the sponge would remain clean and be void of anything ...

Another of the classic empiricists is George Berkeley (1685 1753), who believes that knowledge
is possible. He believed that it was only through experience and not reason that we have
knowledge of reality (p.99). The best way to describe what Berkeley was trying to say would be
found in what we call today idealism. Idealism by definition is a position that maintains that
ultimate reality is mental or spiritual in nature. He believed that reality is made up in many
individual minds rather than one cosmic mind. Hence, when Berkeley says that we have an idea of
something he is not necessarily referring to a particular concept but to the experience of our
memory of the combined ideas.
The third empiricist is David Hume (1711 1776) and he does not answer this question as easily
as the first two have. He believes that knowledge is possible but is limited by what we cannot
know about the world outside of our own experience. Since we can only know the contents of
our individual minds, knowledge would and can be different for each person. Hume believes
that sensory data is key for any individual in order to know something is real. For example, if two
people were sitting together, one possessing the ability to see and hear and the other does not,
could the one the latter really know that a car drove by and that fact that it was red? Examples like
this one are why Hume

Jeroboam Goat Kings
In the Bible, the Seirim goat/devil worship essentially remained strong; for noticeably, even after
Moses, approximately five hundred years later, one of the kings of the Israelites named Jeroboam
appointed priests to worship and reverence these creatures. (After King Solomon s death, the nation
of Israelites split into two nations with King Jeroboam reigning over the majority of the people; his
influence became pervasive. )
Moreover, the text states that King Jeroboam acknowledged the Seirim; goat devils and made any
person a priest of the high places: (locations of orgies), whosoever would, he consecrated them.
Openly, Jeroboam became extremely obsessed with these rituals; as a result, so powerful were
these goat creatures that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

step will consist of the lab student aspirating the media from the wells making sure to disrupt the
monolayer of cells at the bottom of the wells. Next the wells will be washed with PBS to
remove dead cells and debris. After the wells are washed 1ml of media (DMEM) in a 5%
concentration will be added to keep the cells from dehydrating. 5% Media is used because the
goal here is to allow migration and minimize proliferation. Next the lab student will create a
horizontal scratch along the bottom of the well using a P200 pipette. The lab student should use
enough force to crate the scratch but not too much because too much force will create uneven
scratches. Finally the treatments will be added to the wells. The plate will then be placed under
the light microscope and pictures of the scratches will be taken which will be labeled as (T0)

instruments played together. It was in 1969 when Jerry Butler released his latest song Only the

form of music which hadn t been named. Four years and many songs later on the 13th of
September 1973, Vince Aletti wrote an article in the Rolling Stone Magazine which gave this
music form its name DISCO . This soulful music is based on a number of instruments blended
together to get what is known as the disco sound. The vocals are played on a steady four on the

Discos brought in many other cultures too. One of the main addictions that disco brought in
was drugs. Cocaine and Quaalude became the main drugs for all disco lovers. While cocaine
gave them a high spirit, it helped many to enjoy the loud music better. Quaalude made them feel
light like jelly and helped them to move to the groove. The dance lovers enjoyed the
discotheques, as there was music, dance, alcohol and fun. Discos became very popular and
some of them became as popular as tourist sites too. Manhattans Studio 54 is one such place. You
couldn t miss this hangout, as you would see many celebrities and people who are both rich and
famous there. In the 1970s and 80s disco and dance came together and were the craze of the
time. Groups like The Jackson Five, ABBA and The BEE GEES are still bands which are
famous for their great disco music. Disco, which was performed only by a few bands in the
beginning spread like a forest fire. Soon disco became mainstream and all kinds of bands were
performing disco numbers. Disco was the in thing and a lot of movies were made on the disco
theme too. Saturday night fever starring John Travolta and Thank God It s Friday were two big
hits with disco as its mainstream idea. ABBA was a group, which took

God Vs Atheism Argument
The video, God vs. Atheism: Which is more rational, doesn t make sense to me. It starts by
saying faith s a belief in God, but towards the end it says God doesn t require faith. If Faith is a
belief in God, how does God not require faith? It says Atheism requires faith but Atheists don t
believe in God. How would Atheists have a belief in God, Faith? It says faith and reason are
opposites which I agree with but I feel God has to do with faith and Atheists think they are being
reasonable because they feel science has proved God impossible, but just like the video said, the
belief in God is far more rational than Atheism. Logic can show there s a God. Nothing can come

four ways atheists go at explaining this It had to be this way, it s only a coincidence, it just

because our proof states nothing happens by chance and these examples would all be chance.
To say something happened by luck or chance honestly just sounds uneducated to me. This being
said, the scenario that best goes with our proof is You are at a coffee shop after class discussing
the Big Bang Theory for an upcoming test and another student asks: If the Big Bang caused the

Essay on Ragtime and Blues Influence on Jazz

Seeing Ragtime and Blues as Parents of Jazz Jazz is a music genre that has complex
characteristics and history of development and thus many musicians and scholars face troubles in
defining what jazz is. In general, jazz is believed to have born in New Orleans. Jazz developed for
the pleasure of the social dancers. According to the Understanding Jazz: What Is Jazz? of John F.
Kennedy center for the Performing Arts, Jazz was created mainly by Afro Americans, and had
elements of European and Afro American culture. Also, it emphasizes few elements of Jazz, which
are swing feel, syncopation, and improvisation. These different culture and elements of jazz may be
explained by how jazz ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Thus the similarity between ragtime and blues is significant but there are numerous differences
between the two music styles. First, their origin was different. Even though they both had African
influence as mentioned, ragtime was more strongly influenced by European music style, and blues
was heavily African music style. According to Durk Sutro in his book Jazz for Dummies, Ragtime
was European influenced, in the sense that it was composed, not improvised, and featured carefully
crafted melodies and harmonies...ragtime could sound concisely European (ch.5). Although
European influenced, there is some African influence such as rhythm and African banjo music as
mentioned during the lecture. Ragtime rhythm was the rhythms of the black dancers who used
their heels to make drum sounds, or to that of the black church singers who could vary the rhythms
of a Christian hymn so much that a white Christian could not even recognize it (Tirro, pp.37).
On the other hand, Blues were basically from work songs of African Americans slaves at the time.
It is a native American music, the product of the black man in this country, or, to put it more
exactly the way I have come to think about it, blues could not exist if the African captives had not
become American captives (pp.17), said Jones and Baraka. In Jazz A History, Frank Tirro wisely
analyzes and explains the relationship between the unique background and

Marlowe And FaustusDamnation In Shakespeare s Death
Perhaps the most poignant of these moments is in Act IV during which Faustus has a troubling
encounter with a horse courser. Speaking to himself (as well as the audience), Faustus laments,
what are thou, Faustus, but a man condemned to die? (4.1, line 127). If the play were to be
accepted as Calvinist, Faustus then becomes the worst sort of sinner. As Calvin himself explains in
Institutes of Christian Religion, We see therefore that it is no absurdity, that one self act be ascribed
to God, to Satan, and to man: but the diversity in the end and manner of doing, causeth that therein
appeareth the justice of God to be without fault, and also the wickedness of Satan and man,
bewrayeth itself to their reproach (Calvin 207). In the Calvinist mindset, Faustus damnation was
first willed by God, then by Satan, and then by himself. Faustus, and his actions in the play, could
have acted as a cautionary tale, though a rather dramatic one. However, even if one chooses to
view the play as a critic of Calvinism, it remains true that Marlowe s interpretation of the Faust
myth is wrought with religious concerns of the time. Was Faustus fate predestined or could he have
saved his soul? This question and its difficult answer certainly would have resonated with
Elizabethan audiences. Interestingly enough, 21st century America was also navigating a world in
which religion and politics cannot be separated from one another. During David Mamet s original
production of Faustus,

Other women she meets tell her to stand up and fight for herself, but Celie thinks it is better to

It is understandable that for most of the novel Celie thinks it is not wise to stand up for herself

Technology Into Early Childhood Education
Matters to Consider when introducing Technology into Early Childhood Education
Introduction
Earlier research was more concerned with weather or not technology; including computers were, in
fact, beneficial to children s learning. Current research is concerned with how technology can be
used to support children s learning and development (Morrison, 2009). Acronyms like PC, CD,
DVD, PDA, DSL, eBay, and .com, are part of our professional vocabulary right alongside ECE...

It needs to be acknowledged that technology and media are social icons, and, most importantly,
children are active consumers of these products (Weddell, 2001). There is little wonder why
technology is being viewed as becoming, if not already, common place in the educational setting.
Zevenbergen (2010, p. 1) states, This generation has been immersed in technology since their
emergence into the world. Their homes have computer technology in all facets of gadgetry the
remote control for the television, the programmable microwave, the mobile phone computers,
digital games (such as Xbox, as well as those on the computer) .
Early childhood is a period of growth and rapid development. During this time, many children
attend preschool, where they have access to technology as a learning tool (Chen amp; Couse,
2010). There is increasing interest and belief in the need to start this education [technology] at an
earlier age, possibly as soon as children begin formal schooling or even nursery school or
kindergarten (Stables, 1997). In a survey conducted by Flynn et, al. (2010), the results showed more
than half of the educators surveyed think that children should be introduced to technology between
ages 3 and 4. Perhaps one reason the findings would indicate this is due to the motivational

Essay on Comparison between Jan van Eyck and Fra Angelico
The Renaissance in Western Europe brought a rebirth to the arts. No longer was the church the
only accredited patron for the arts. Instead, a wealthy middle class arose as patrons and were able
to purchase artist s works. Although many pieces still had religious themes, the styles, freedom of
creativity, and less reserved pieces were created. The Renaissance was not only confined to Italy,
although it is often mistaken as the birthplace of the movement. All over Western Europe artwork
flourished. Artists from the north came to Italy to study the classical arts and the renowned Italian
Renaissance artists. Many of the same themes and subject matters were depicted throughout
Western Europe. One such subject matter, the Annunciation, was... Show more content on

The Italians may not have had detailed frescos and vivid colors; however they were the leaders
in creating a harmonious scale between the landscape and the objects or figures that adorned it.
They developed a focused on perspective and made their art a science. They used mathematical
measurements and thus the piece was given a great deal of depth and realism. The fresco appears
to be an extended recessed space in the room. In Angelico s piece, linear perspective is created by
the placement and angles of the walls. The edge of the porch, the base of the first column and the
lines of the bench establish a linear perspective. Italian painters also focused on the studying of
classical art and architecture. In Angelico s piece, the arches supported by the stance of the ionic
columns show the interest and study that the Italians adapted into their work. The Northern
Renaissance painters eventually incorporated perspective in their work. Van Eyckused intuitive
perspective, making objects appear smaller and closer together as they are placed further in the
distance to create the feeling of depth in his piece.
Iconography is more prevalent in the Northern Renaissance artwork compared to the Italian
Renaissance artwork. Upon first glance, there are two distinct and obvious similarities between
the two works. The most noticeable is how Mary is wearing blue and is very similarly depicted.
Just like white, the color blue is thought to be the symbol of purity and

Participant Observation Methods
I found that the participant observation method was the most helpful and easiest method to use. I
was able to talk with the firemen about their experiences and see how they interacted. I also worked
out with them and sat around talking with them. This method allowed me to get information about
their interactions because I could easily observe them talking amongst themselves and to me. One
of the downsides of this method was that I could not record information as I was observing. Writing
down what they were saying and what was going on would seem rude and would be hard to do. I
had to wait until leaving the firehouse before recording what happened. This led to more vague
information because of forgetting things. The phenomenological method

States with the Most Gun Violence www.usatoday.com/story/news/nation More than two thirds of
all homicides in the United States are gun related. Arizona is ranked the eleventh worst state.
Nearly 36,000 people died in gun related incidents in 2013. This is an increase of 13.8% in the
past ten years. The CDC keeps track of all gun related deaths for each state. Fatalities include
homicide, suicide, and accidents. While gun laws are uniform across the United States, none of
the states with the most gun violence require an individual to have a permit to buy rifles,
shotguns, or handguns. The owners are not required to register their guns either in any of these
states. This is valuable because it shows that the worst states for gun violence are due to having
uniform laws when clearly they don t. These states don t require anything for people to get a gun.
Arizona is on this list. What is our world coming to?

Distance Between Clusters And Nearest Neighbor
Distance between clusters
Nearest neighbor (single linkage). In this measure the similarity between two clusters is defined as
the smallest distance between two objects in different clusters. Distance between cluster A and
cluster B is the minimum amongst the following pairs (1,5), (1,6), (1,7), (2,5), (2,6), and (2,7). In
each iteration, the distance between two different clusters is equal to the distance between its
closest members.
Furthest neighbor (complete linkage). With this similarity measure, the distance between two
different clusters is equal to the maximum amongst all pairs. It is equal to the distance amongst
their members who are the farthest.
UPGMA Using the average linkage method, called UPGMA, the distance between two different
clusters is equal to the average of the distance of all their pairs. This method is usually preferred
over nearest neighbor or farthest neighbor because it encompasses the knowledge of all pairs
instead of focusing on one single pair.
Average linkage within groups. UPGMA considers average of all pairs. The average linkage
method combines clusters in such a way that the average distance in the resulting cluster from all
the pairs is as small as possible. This method is particularly useful when it is computationally
expensive to calculate distances between all pairs.
Ward s method. In each cluster the means for each variable is computed. Then the Euclidean
distance of each member from this means is calculated. These

The Implications Of Genetically Modified Foods
Our technological powers increase, but the side effects and potential hazards also escalate.
Alvin Toffler. In the 1980s, a new science field was developed called Genetic Modification (GM)
or Genetic Engineering for uncountable purposes. One of the applications was to create food
crops that are altered in a way to be beneficial to the producer or the consumer. Genetically
modified foods could be defined as foods derived from organisms which their genetic material has
been altered in a way that does not naturally occur, through the insertion of a gene form a different
organism. Genetic modification techniques permits the introduction of new traits and provides
better control over the desired traits than the previously used methods like selective breeding. The
first commercial sale product of GM food was in 1994, while the biggest marks for GM crops are
soybeans, maizeand oilseed rape. Nowadays, the determined value of the foods managed in the
United States which holds at least one genetically modified ingredient is 70%. The release of
genetically modified foods in markets has triggered a debate around the world, where proponents
believe that it holds many promising benefits, while opponents are worried about its negative
impacts on the environment and the health of human beings.
One of the main arguments made by the supporters is the prominent advantages in the crops of
genetically modified food. Crops are modified to increase the level of protection against plant

Dylan Thomas And The Poetry Of The 1940s
Further David Perkins asserts that: Dylan Thomas was too relentlessly melodious and rhetorical,
making the fifties poets all the more conscious of the morality of plainness. Moreover they could
not recognize their world in the clichГ©s of Thomas Fern Hill or Under Milk Wood , and thus
they were motivated all the more toward an honest realism. That Thomas archetypal symbols
seemed vague and obscure to the point of self indulgence impelled them with stronger conviction
toward lucid, rational discourse (Perkins 423).
In Purity of Diction in English Verse, Davie says of the Movement that: it represented an originally
passionate rejection, by one generation of British poets of all the values of Bohemia (Davie, Purity

Enright s introduction to the Poet s of the 1950s criticized Thomas s poetry on the familiar
ground that it lacked thought: Perhaps the kind of admiration which Thomas received
encouraged him to leave thinking to the New Verse Poets; but poetry is like a human body in
needing bones as well as flesh and blood (Enright, Poet of the 1950s). A similar idea can be
found in Davie s Articulate Energy published in 1955, which looks back to a period in English
history, the eighteenth century , where strong sense was as common as terms as strong feelings .
Davie sees Romantic and Modernist practice as having destroyed meaning and argument into
poetry by over emphasizing the importance of images. He is able to admit that in some poetry
notably that of Ezra Pound such practice has had beneficial effects; but one poet whose pursuit of
images he will not tolerate is Dylan Thomas: a sonnet by Dylan Thomas is unacceptable even on
Hulme s terms. When concrete images are crowded upon each other, they lose their concreteness.

How can we trust in the government, when they lie about many things from us and feel the need

Insurance Companies and Hurricane Sandy
Hurricane Sandy Introduction How did the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA),
the New Jersey emergency agencies and private insurance companies work together or did they?
to help victims of the horrific winds and water associated with Hurricane Sandy? This paper
delves into that issue. Insurance Companies and Hurricane Sandy From news reports it would
appear that insurance companies did not provide the emergency assistance that victims of
Hurricane Sandy had hoped for. This is not to say that all insurance companies failed to deliver the
help that their policyholders expected, but clearly some companies failed to deliver, and their
efforts were not always in sync with FEMA and the NF Office of Emergency Management. For
example, as far as the National Flood Insurance Program s efficiency in getting checks to
homeowners, the payouts ...have not come quickly enough (Van Embden, 2013). Even now, nearly
three months since the storm passed, some residents...are still waiting for their checks, Van Embden
explains, noting that Jim Racanelli and his family have spent three months as nomads because
without a home (which was destroyed in the hurricane), and without money to rebuild, they are out
of luck (Van Embden). Typically insurance companies have 30 days to respond to claims, but when
a major storm causes emergency situations beyond the normal needs, that deadline is suspended,

In many cop movies it is easy to distinguish the good from the evil but in this film it all depends
on what your definition of good is. The film is a journey deep within the LAPD s narcotics
division and exposes the darker side of law enforcement. For example, in one of the first scenes
Detective Harris tells Officer Hoyt that a good narcotics detective should have narcotics in their
system and pressures him smoke illicit drugs. Consequently, when Officer Hoyt refuses
Detective Harris points a gun at him and tells him if they were on the streets a drug dealer would
have killed him, and tells him he doesn t want him in his division. Officer Hoyt gives in to
Detective Harris telling him he will do anything he wants him to do and smokes the illicit drugs.
Officer Hoyt in complete disbelief after just smoking illicit drugs goes into culture shock when
he begins to see that it was just an ordinary part of being in narcotics. In a following scene
Officer Hoyt states that it couldn t be true that all this corruption is part of being in the narcotics
division and Detective Harris responds that that s the only way to get the job done. These first
few scenes set the tone for how Detective Harris works with little disregard for the laws he swore
to uphold and make it difficult through the film to determine who really are the bad

The Importance Of Genetic Advancements In Oncology
WEfforts over the past decade to characterize the genetic alterations in human cancers have led to
a better understanding of molecular drivers of this complex set of diseases. Although we in the
cancer field hoped that this would lead to more effective drugs, historically, our ability to translate
cancer research to clinical success has been remarkably low1. Sadly, clinical trials in oncologyhave
the highest failure rate compared with other therapeutic areas. Given the high unmet need in
oncology, it is understandable that barriers to clinical development may be lower than for other
disease areas, and a larger number of drugs with suboptimal preclinical validation will enter
oncology trials. However, this low success rate is not... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

and the data will, for the most part, stand the test of time. Unfortunately, this is not always the case.
Although the issue of irreproducible data has been discussed between scientists for decades, it has
recently received greater attention (see go.nature.com/q7i2up) as the costs of drug development
have increased along with the number of late stage clinical trial failures and the demand for more
effective therapies.
Over the past decade, before pursuing a particular line of research, scientists (including C.G.B.) in
the haematology and oncology department at the biotechnology firm Amgen in Thousand Oaks,
California, tried to confirm published findings related to that work. Fifty three papers were deemed
landmark studies (see Reproducibility of research findings ). It was acknowledged from the outset
that some of the data might not hold up, because papers were deliberately selected that described
something completely new, such as fresh

Comparison Of Evidence And Pattern Evidence
Comparison of latent fingerprints found at the crime scene with exemplar prints, comparison of
bite marks on a victim, DNA evidence, hair and fibre matching are some of the example of pattern
comparison in forensic science (Coyle, Field Wenderoth, 2009). Comparison of pattern evidence in
forensic science is to determine whether the same kind of the properties of forensic traces may
have come from a common (or related source) (Found Edmond, 2012). There are varieties of
techniques in forensic pattern evidencethat make associations between physical traces. The
association of one or more traces might be helpful in the investigation of a crime that usually can
support an inference (Cole, Berthental Seelagy, 2016).
Pattern evidence is any item where a mark or impression has been made during criminal activity
with the purpose of associating the mark with the object or implement that made it. Although
fingerprints are the most prominent form of forensic pattern evidence, but there are other types of ...

Some of the classes are sometimes larger than others. The larger the class, the less discriminating

Identification is the process of determining a substance s physical or chemical identity of a
substance such as drug analysis, species determination and explosive residue analysis as near
absolute certainty as existing analytical techniques will permit (Saferstein, 2014). These are forms
of physical evidence that become crucial to solving a crime. With the use of new technology, the
scientists are able to determine if a known sample of a small fibre, paint chip, or shoe pattern is
consistent with the unknown sample found at the scene. When individual characteristics are

Argumentative Essay On Black Tom Island
2:00 a.m., darkness still blanketed Black Tom Island in New York Harbor, a major munitions
depot. Although the U.S. was neutral during World War I it was no secret that they were selling
ammunition to England, France, and Russia. Hence it is no shock that Germany would consider
Black Tom Island a force to be reckoned with. Ultimately, the blame comes back to the U.S., for

Liberty fires began to burn, some guards called for the Fire Department while others fled, and
for good reason seeing as there were millions of pounds of explosives stored here that needed
only a spark to go off. The blasts, as they were built to do, wreaked havoc at the site. An

Research Paper On The Bauhaus Movement
The Bauhaus Movement
The first decades of the 20th century in modernism was characterised by enormous social and
political changes with a radically changing lifestyle. Technology, manufacturing, science and art
was the driving force. The Bauhaus movement was one of the most influential modern design
movements of the 20th century reaching its peak between the two world wars. It was founded in
1919 in the city of Weimar in Germany by architect Walter Gropius. Although the Bauhaus was
founded by an architect, it did not actually have architecture department during its early years.

aspects of design, and tying them all together. The word Bauhaus ... Show more content on

Gropius goal was to create a new guild of craftsmen . The Bauhaus movement created classic
pieces and inspirational work in Europe and around the world as many of these great figures had
to emigrate after the Bauhaus was forced to close in 1933 due to the political pressure from the
Nazi movement. Wassily Kandinsky taught basic design theory at the Bauhaus with association to
form and colour. Influenced by theosophy, his abstract artwork shows his use of the primary
colours red, yellow and blue and the geometrical elements such as circles, half circles, triangles,
squares and simple lines. He believed these certain colours in relationship to a certain shape
represented how the reader would feel, making them have an emotional connection.
It can be said that the Bauhaus was the first modern art school. Art schools are strongly influenced
by their teaching of design and skill. The Bauhaus curriculum model is still used in education today.
The Bauhaus curriculum combined theoretic education and practical training in the educational
workshops. It drew inspiration from the ideals of the revolutionary art movements and design
experiments of the early 20th

The Goal Of The Journal
1. The goal of the journal is to explain several concepts, many being misunderstandings, of how dry
ice is formed, and to use experiments to explain the hypotheses. The author provides explanations to
scientific reactions that make fog result from mixing together dry ice and water. Kuntzleman, the
author of A Molecular Explanation of How Fog is Produced When Dry IceIs Placed in Water , also
explains why various ideas about dry iceare false. He demonstrates his ideas using experiments he
says can be performed using primarily cheap, and easy to find material.
The first experiment constructed is set up to effectively measure the density of fog. Because the
experiments all deal with dry ice, it is vital to be able to measure the density of the fog resulting
from a dry ice and liquid combination. Using a 500 mL flask with a round bottom and two
openings is necessary. Approximately 200 mL of liquid is put into the flask. A piece of
approximately 10 grams of dry ice is then placed into one opening on the flask. The other opening
is covered by a plastic cuvette. Through the cuvette the fog s density can be measured using an
LED light and sensor. Fog density is then recorded using the intensity of the light with the formula
for the density of the fog, log(I/I0).
The next performed experiment deals with where the fog originates. The atmospheric water is not
the basis of DIWF (Dry Ice Water Fog). The source of this fog comes from bulk water. To prove this

A Career In Nursing
There are many factors that attribute to my desire to pursue a career in nursing. My personal
experiences in health care settings, both as a patient and as a volunteer, brought to my attention
my strong desire to live a life that will impact others in a positive way. A career in nursing is a
perfect channel through which I can fulfill this desire to make a difference in the lives of others.
Throughout my life, I have seen nurses that went above and beyond to help the patient, as well as
those that did the bare minimum required of them. I have seen how a nurse has the potential to
either ease the anxiety in a room or worsen it. I have always greatly respected the nursing position

I volunteer at the Kennedy Health Care Center, and as a volunteer, I am directly involved with the
long term care patients of the facility. Throughout the whole experience, I learned a great deal
about interacting with confused and scared individuals because many of the residents at the
facility have some form of dementia. I will never forget one specific interaction that taught me a
valuable lesson on the impact of those working in healthcare. There was an elderly resident in
the facility that was known to be difficult to deal with. She would incessantly cry out Save me!
although there was nothing wrong. Because this was typical behavior for the women, the people
around her would often pay little attention to her. One afternoon I saw that this women s cries
were irritating the other residents in the dayroom. I went up to the women and began talking to
her to try to calm her down. I was able to get her to realize that there was nothing wrong. Once
she was calm I asked her if she would like me to paint her nails, and she looked thrilled with my
proposition. After I painted her nails, I witnessed her entire mood change. Instead of shouting, she
spent the rest of the afternoon showing off her newly painted nails. I saw her entire mood change
simply from me taking the time to show her that I cared. When I become a nurse, my day will be
full of opportunities to show patients that I care, and that is something that I look forward

Is there a way to combine all of the medical imaging devices to create a complete and thorough
representation of the body? This question dogged my mind during the time between the end of high
school and the first year of my undergraduate study. This question also fueled my interest in the
field of medical imaging; which in turn, assisted me in determining the direction my
undergraduate courses and research topics would lead. Because of the endless possibilities in the
field of medical imaging, research in this field is both diverse and fascinating. Of particular
interest to me in this field is the research and development of medical imaging devices and

Working on a short research project in my third year not only introduced me to the concept of
automated image segmentation and diagnosis, but also acquainted me with the importance and
convenience of such systems. This concept was further developed by a course on image processing
that illustrated the coding processes used in automated segmentations, and the difficulties that still
encompass the topic. In addition, multiple courses in the academic field of biophysics expanded
my knowledge of human biomechanics and the physics of modern medical imaging systems.
Learning how CT, x ray, PET, MRI, ultrasounds and photoacoustic imaging functioned and how
computers process the signals received from these machines was the highlight of my
undergraduate experience. Of the imaging modalities I studied, CT, MRI, and PET stood out as
the most extensive and versatile fields to explore. These courses in biophysics helped shape and

Female Characters in John SteinbeckВґs East of Eden
When it comes to female characters, authors depict women with a sense of realism, that being
that they are a common folk with a usually large but simple impact in the story. On the contrary,
John Steinbeck s female characters in his novel East of Eden do not have the sense of being
normal women, and he goes to extremes when it comes to the women being good or bad. Faye,
Olive, and Cathy are all women that have taken to extremes in their acts of kindness or evil. Faye
is too good of a person, especially in the society that she is in. Olive helps an enormous amount in
the military with work she has done that seemed unlikely for her to do by herself. Cathy, on the
other hand, commits horrible acts that would immediately classify her as mental, but is ironically
one of the smartest characters in the novel. These kinds of women are uncommon, especially in
their society.
Faye is the owner of a brothel and almost immediately takes in a new girl, Cathy, as her daughter.
There s plenty for both of us, Kate. I could give you as much as you make and more, and you d be
worth it. (301) Faye wants to give Cathy (who changed her name to Kate) more than she gives
herself, which is not something any other woman who owns a business would do, especially with
a girl that she has not known for more than a year. Faye didn t feel very good that Saturday night

This law is akin to the infamous Jim Crow laws based on the fact it promotes segregation between the LGBTQ and surrounding communities. On March 26, 2015, Indiana Governor Mike Pence signed Indiana Senate Bill 101, better known as the Religious Freedom Restoration Act, into place. Under this law, a person or business owner s exercise of religion is protected from persecution by the government, a right everyone is entitled to, but bigoted business owners have taken to refusing service to members of the LGBTQ community, claiming they violate their religious beliefs. Crime is happening everywhere in our poverty neighborhoods, even in the wealthiest neighborhoods crime is happening. You have different types of crime weather it is murders, shoplifting, robberies it happens. Rising murders and homicides in cities deserve attention now before it s too late and it s one of our loved ones. Chicago getting the troops sent to help with the crime cases is a good idea. I do think that there can be other ways that can lighten some of the violence in Chicago is by making stricter gun laws. I think when a person that is dangerous get a hold of a weapon, that is not good and they should be the biggest targeted people. I think that if people in Chicago do purchase a firearm they should be required to take a gun course for a minimum of 20 hours at the most. Internal Strengths And Weaknesses Of John Lewis Summary The aim of this report is to explore the internal strengths and weaknesses of John Lewis and the external threats and opportunities for this organisation. Secondly, it will explore how John Lewis could use this SWOT analysis to benefit them in the future. Introduction John Lewis is a British department store that operates in the United Kindom and is well known for its Never Knowingly Undersold policy that brings quality products to the UK high streets and online shopping. A SWOT analysisis intended to analyse the organisation s current status and its potential for the future. Morrison (2011, p. 158) states that a SWOT analysis is a strategic tool used by businesses to assess the organisation s strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats. Using a SWOT analysis will encompass a detailed evaluation of the organisation for John Lewis, which could be used to benefit the company in the future. As Wetherly Otter (2008, pp. 24 25) says The capacity of a business to take advantage of opportunities and resist threats will depend on its internal strengths and weaknesses. But if John Lewis has the internal strengths to undertake a change a SWOT analysis will help as it was designed to enable an organisation to take into account internal and external factors that may affect its strategic planning decisions and thus improve its prospects of success (Harrison, 2014, p. 6). • 6. empiricism Essay Empiricism Empiricism by nature is the belief that there is no knowledge without experience. How can one know what something tastes like if they have never tasted it? For example, would someone know that an apple is red if they have never actually have seen one. Someone can tell you an apple is red, but, if you never have seen one, can you really be sure? Empiricists use three anchor points in which they derive their opinions from. The first of these points is; the only source of genuine knowledge is sense experience. An easier way to understand this is to compare the mind to a clean sponge. As the sponge touches things, it takes with it, a piece of everything it touches. Without this, the sponge would remain clean and be void of anything ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Another of the classic empiricists is George Berkeley (1685 1753), who believes that knowledge is possible. He believed that it was only through experience and not reason that we have knowledge of reality (p.99). The best way to describe what Berkeley was trying to say would be found in what we call today idealism. Idealism by definition is a position that maintains that ultimate reality is mental or spiritual in nature. He believed that reality is made up in many individual minds rather than one cosmic mind. Hence, when Berkeley says that we have an idea of something he is not necessarily referring to a particular concept but to the experience of our memory of the combined ideas. The third empiricist is David Hume (1711 1776) and he does not answer this question as easily as the first two have. He believes that knowledge is possible but is limited by what we cannot know about the world outside of our own experience. Since we can only know the contents of our individual minds, knowledge would and can be different for each person. Hume believes that sensory data is key for any individual in order to know something is real. For example, if two people were sitting together, one possessing the ability to see and hear and the other does not, could the one the latter really know that a car drove by and that fact that it was red? Examples like this one are why Hume ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It says Atheism requires faith but Atheists don t believe in God. How would Atheists have a belief in God, Faith? It says faith and reason are opposites which I agree with but I feel God has to do with faith and Atheists think they are being reasonable because they feel science has proved God impossible, but just like the video said, the belief in God is far more rational than Atheism. In general, jazz is believed to have born in New Orleans. Jazz developed for the pleasure of the social dancers. According to the Understanding Jazz: What Is Jazz? of John F. According to Durk Sutro in his book Jazz for Dummies, Ragtime was European influenced, in the sense that it was composed, not improvised, and featured carefully crafted melodies and harmonies...ragtime could sound concisely European (ch.5). Although European influenced, there is some African influence such as rhythm and African banjo music as mentioned during the lecture. Ragtime rhythm was the rhythms of the black dancers who used their heels to make drum sounds, or to that of the black church singers who could vary the rhythms of a Christian hymn so much that a white Christian could not even recognize it (Tirro, pp.37). On the other hand, Blues were basically from work songs of African Americans slaves at the time. It is a native American music, the product of the black man in this country, or, to put it more exactly the way I have come to think about it, blues could not exist if the African captives had not become American captives (pp.17), said Jones and Baraka. • 19. Marlowe And FaustusDamnation In Shakespeare s Death Perhaps the most poignant of these moments is in Act IV during which Faustus has a troubling encounter with a horse courser. Speaking to himself (as well as the audience), Faustus laments, what are thou, Faustus, but a man condemned to die? (4.1, line 127). If the play were to be accepted as Calvinist, Faustus then becomes the worst sort of sinner. As Calvin himself explains in Institutes of Christian Religion, We see therefore that it is no absurdity, that one self act be ascribed to God, to Satan, and to man: but the diversity in the end and manner of doing, causeth that therein appeareth the justice of God to be without fault, and also the wickedness of Satan and man, bewrayeth itself to their reproach (Calvin 207). In the Calvinist mindset, Faustus damnation was first willed by God, then by Satan, and then by himself. Faustus, and his actions in the play, could have acted as a cautionary tale, though a rather dramatic one. However, even if one chooses to view the play as a critic of Calvinism, it remains true that Marlowe s interpretation of the Faust myth is wrought with religious concerns of the time. Was Faustus fate predestined or could he have saved his soul? This question and its difficult answer certainly would have resonated with Elizabethan audiences. Interestingly enough, 21st century America was also navigating a world in which religion and politics cannot be separated from one another. During David Mamet s original production of Faustus, ... Instead, a wealthy middle class arose as patrons and were able to purchase artist s works. Although many pieces still had religious themes, the styles, freedom of creativity, and less reserved pieces were created. The Renaissance was not only confined to Italy, although it is often mistaken as the birthplace of the movement. All over Western Europe artwork flourished. The fresco appears to be an extended recessed space in the room. In Angelico s piece, linear perspective is created by the placement and angles of the walls. The edge of the porch, the base of the first column and the lines of the bench establish a linear perspective. Italian painters also focused on the studying of classical art and architecture. In Angelico s piece, the arches supported by the stance of the ionic columns show the interest and study that the Italians adapted into their work. The Northern Renaissance painters eventually incorporated perspective in their work. Van Eyckused intuitive perspective, making objects appear smaller and closer together as they are placed further in the distance to create the feeling of depth in his piece. Iconography is more prevalent in the Northern Renaissance artwork compared to the Italian Renaissance artwork. How can we have an honest workflow, when big companies are stealing from others and lying just to make more money without anyone knowing? How can we trust in the government, when they lie about many things from us and feel the need to keep secrets from us? Insurance Companies and Hurricane Sandy Hurricane Sandy Introduction How did the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), the New Jersey emergency agencies and private insurance companies work together or did they? to help victims of the horrific winds and water associated with Hurricane Sandy? This paper delves into that issue. Insurance Companies and Hurricane Sandy From news reports it would appear that insurance companies did not provide the emergency assistance that victims of Hurricane Sandy had hoped for. This is not to say that all insurance companies failed to deliver the help that their policyholders expected, but clearly some companies failed to deliver, and their efforts were not always in sync with FEMA and the NF Office of Emergency Management. For example, as far as the National Flood Insurance Program s efficiency in getting checks to homeowners, the payouts ...have not come quickly enough (Van Embden, 2013). Even now, nearly three months since the storm passed, some residents...are still waiting for their checks, Van Embden explains, noting that Jim Racanelli and his family have spent three months as nomads because without a home (which was destroyed in the hurricane), and without money to rebuild, they are out of luck (Van Embden). In many cop movies it is easy to distinguish the good from the evil but in this film it all depends on what your definition of good is. The film is a journey deep within the LAPD s narcotics division and exposes the darker side of law enforcement. For example, in one of the first scenes Detective Harris tells Officer Hoyt that a good narcotics detective should have narcotics in their system and pressures him smoke illicit drugs. Consequently, when Officer Hoyt refuses Detective Harris points a gun at him and tells him if they were on the streets a drug dealer would have killed him, and tells him he doesn t want him in his division. Officer Hoyt gives in to Detective Harris telling him he will do anything he wants him to do and smokes the illicit drugs. Officer Hoyt in complete disbelief after just smoking illicit drugs goes into culture shock when he begins to see that it was just an ordinary part of being in narcotics. In a following scene Officer Hoyt states that it couldn t be true that all this corruption is part of being in the narcotics division and Detective Harris responds that that s the only way to get the job done. The Importance Of Genetic Advancements In Oncology WEfforts over the past decade to characterize the genetic alterations in human cancers have led to a better understanding of molecular drivers of this complex set of diseases. Although we in the cancer field hoped that this would lead to more effective drugs, historically, our ability to translate cancer research to clinical success has been remarkably low1. Sadly, clinical trials in oncologyhave the highest failure rate compared with other therapeutic areas. The results of preclinical studies must therefore be very robust to withstand the rigours and challenges of clinical trials, stemming from the heterogeneity of both tumours and patients. Unfortunately, this is not always the case. Although the issue of irreproducible data has been discussed between scientists for decades, it has recently received greater attention (see go.nature.com/q7i2up) as the costs of drug development have increased along with the number of late stage clinical trial failures and the demand for more effective therapies. Over the past decade, before pursuing a particular line of research, scientists (including C.G.B.) in the haematology and oncology department at the biotechnology firm Amgen in Thousand Oaks, California, tried to confirm published findings related to that work. The author provides explanations to scientific reactions that make fog result from mixing together dry ice and water. Kuntzleman, the author of A Molecular Explanation of How Fog is Produced When Dry IceIs Placed in Water , also explains why various ideas about dry iceare false. He demonstrates his ideas using experiments he says can be performed using primarily cheap, and easy to find material. The first experiment constructed is set up to effectively measure the density of fog. Because the experiments all deal with dry ice, it is vital to be able to measure the density of the fog resulting from a dry ice and liquid combination. Using a 500 mL flask with a round bottom and two openings is necessary. Approximately 200 mL of liquid is put into the flask. A piece of approximately 10 grams of dry ice is then placed into one opening on the flask. The other opening is covered by a plastic cuvette. Through the cuvette the fog s density can be measured using an LED light and sensor. Fog density is then recorded using the intensity of the light with the formula for the density of the fog, log(I/I0). The next performed experiment deals with where the fog originates. The atmospheric water is not the basis of DIWF (Dry Ice Water Fog). The source of this fog comes from bulk water. To prove this using a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

On the contrary, John Steinbeck s female characters in his novel East of Eden do not have the sense of being normal women, and he goes to extremes when it comes to the women being good or bad.
