Impact Of Physical Geography
Impact of Physical Geography and Development: Physical geography plays a significant part in
the development and success of different people and countries. A country s location can greatly
affect how that country does economically. For example, country s near water typically do better
economically than landlocked because water unlocks more trade opportunities. However, some
landlocked countries can still do well because of it s neighboring countries that may be located
near water. Another example is the type of environment you re located in. People in countries
with a more agricultural based environment will live very differently than a country surrounded
by desert that may focus on oil or minerals. Yet, some countries, like the U.S, are so big that they
have many different climates, ecosystems, and environments; allowing for many different types
of ways to make money, trade, and live. A countires location can also affect how people live.
Anything from climate to where the country is located compared to the equator can completely
determine how someone lives. A place with a rainy climate that may rely on industry will be
completely different that one with a more mild climate that relies on agriculture. A countires
location from the equator will also drastically affect how people live. A country like Brazil that
is right next to the equator will focus their industries on different things than a country like
Russia, who is far away from the equator, will rely on different types of industries. A country s
location can also determine how it is affected by natural disasters. For example, Thailand has a risk
of tsunamis, California is greatly affected by earthquakes, and places like Hawaii are affected by
volcanos. All of those things can affect a country s economy and development.
Core Periphery Model or World Systems Theory: In The Power of Place Harm De Blij divides the
world into two parts; the core and periphery. Core countries are often successful economically,
have a dominant military, and have overall better health. Periphery countries are often poor, don t
have much power, have more diseases and overall worse health, and low standards of living. Global
cores are places like the U.S.A, China,

Santa Fe Trail Research Paper
Prior to 1821, the land beyond Missouri was an uncharted region known only to buffalo and
displaced Native Americans. When Mexicans won independence from Spain in 1821, they
encouraged trade with the United States via New Mexico. Lack of water and hostile Native
Americans made the trip dangerous, but William Becknell, Father of the Santa Fe Trail, left
Missouri that year to arrive in Santa Fe a month and a half later. After a large profit, Becknell
continued to make trips, blazing the path that became known as the Santa Fe Trail. Soon, traders,
visitors, and the military would regularly travel the route. Two paths developed on the Sante Fe
trail, splitting at Fort Larned, KS after following the same path from Missouri to the Arkansas River,

The Greek And Greek Influence Of The Roman Empire
Another empire would soon take many influences from the Greeks. In Rome, an empire was
beginning to rise. Roman civilization had its roots in Hellenistic culture because they idolized them.
They borrowed and enhanced upon the Greek intellectual accomplishments. As the empire
expanded this would become increasingly important. As the Romans continued to expand their
empire and influence, they were also spreading the culture of those who influenced them the Greeks
. The Roman Empireat their peak had a vast control over much of the Mediterranean and into
Europe controlling much of Britain, Spain, France, the North African coast, much of Asia minor.

These effects reached from China, India, the Middle East, and some portions of Africa. As different
regions adopted new aspects of life, they further implement that into their culture. Then the as the
culture grows, it grows with the influences adopted form that of the Romans who borrowed it form
the Greeks. Similarly, with the Romans and Macedonians their conquest and implementation of
their culture was the main source of the spread of Hellenistic culture. However the combination of
controlling more regions and being more involved with global trade, the Romans were able to
further expand Greek influence than those before them. Soon the Roman Empire began to decline
and an even more impactful implementation of Greek culture began to arise in a region to the east.
As the Roman Empire fell and small Kingdoms began to arise throughout Europe, in a different
region of the world, an intellectual revolution began and flourished. During a period between the
eighth and ninth centuries, the Islamic world of the Middle East Experienced its Golden Age .
This was a period of advancements in the sciences, astronomy, mathematics, and medicine. The
main source contributed to these advancements is from the Greeks. However this Golden Age may
have been delayed for many years if not for a man named Mamun. Mamun was a Caliph who would

Mechanical Valve Induced Lung Injury
During mechanical ventilation, patients are at risk of injuries to their lungs caused by improper
settings on ventilators. Mechanical ventilator induced lung injury (VILI) can affect the lung in
several ways. Some of the ways the lung become affected is by excessive pressure, excessive
volume, and not enough volume. When the lungs are affected by excessive pressure its termed
pulmonary barotrauma. On the other hand, if the lungs receive too much volume it s called
volutrauma. However, when the lungs don t receive enough volume its termed atelectrauma. This
paper describes how pulmonary barotrauma, pulmonary volutrauma, and pulmonary atelectrauma
affects the lungs during mechanical ventilationand ways to prevent them from happening. The first
ventilator induced lung injury that I want to discuss is pulmonary barotrauma. Pulmonary
barotrauma is a lung complication caused by too much positive pressure forced into the lungs by a
mechanical ventilator. Pulmonary barotrauma occurs when the alveolar begins to rupture due to
elevated transalveolar pressure. Transalveolar pressure is a function of both the tidal volume and
the overall compliance of the lungs. Researchers use plateau pressures to get an estimation of
transalveolar pressure. Plateau pressures can be used as a tool to help measure for the risk of
pulmonary barotrauma. Researchers have discovered that plateau pressures less than 30 cmH2O
have shown to reduce the cause of pulmonary barotrauma. Guy W. Soo wrote

What Is The Tone In Chapter 9 Of The Scarlet Letter
Brisan Brown Ms. Cooper AP English Language 19 January 2016 Chapter 9 the Leech Throughout
chapter 9 of the Scarlet Letter, Nathaniel Hawthorne uses setting, metaphor, allusion, irony, and
diction to set a gloomy, bitter, and deadly tone. With this, Hawthorne simply reveal Dimmesdale s
nature and the true evil characteristics of Chillingworth. Hawthorne purposely titled chapter 9 the
Leech due to its multiple meaning. During the 17th century, leeches were used for medical
purposes to facilitate bloodletting. Leeches are often sought to be blood hungry creature that sucks
the life out of a person, yet the townspeople trust the leech to take care of their minister and give the
minister remedies learnt from Indians. Hawthorne compares Chillingworth to a leech to reveal his

The Leech became a suitable title for the chapter because it symbolizes Chillingworth s
occupation a physician and the bloodsucking relationship between Dimmesdale and
Chillingworth. Chillingworth pulls bad blood out of Dimmesdale while continuously sucking
away his energy and desire to live by pulling bad memories and guilt out of him. So Roger
Chillingworth the man of skill, the kind and friendly physician strove to go deep into his patient s
bosom, delving among his principles, prying into his recollections, and probing everything with
caution touch, like a treasure seeker in a dark cavern. (Page 83) Hawthorne uses allusion to allude
the presence of Chillingworth and describe the tautness Dimmesdale feels in Chillingworth
presence. He creates a visual setting for the reader to gain more insight. It was as if a window

Only one to many and one to one relationships can be directly represented in the hierarchical
model. There are many different ways to transform this E R diagram to a tree structure diagram.
All these diagrams, however, share the property that the underlying database tree (or trees) will
have replicated records. The decision regarding which transformation should be used depends on
many factors, including The type of queries expected on the database The degree to which the
overall data base schema being modeled п¬Ѓts the given E R diagram We shall present a
transformation that is as general as possible. That is, all other possible transformations are a
special case of this one transformation. To transform the E R diagram of Figure E.6a into a tree
structure diagram, we take these steps: 1. Create two separate tree structure diagrams, T1 and
T2, each of which has the customer and account record types. In tree T1, customer is the root; in
tree T2, account is the root. 2. Create the following two links: depositor, many to one link from
account record type to customer record type, in T1 2. account customer, a many to one link from

Chronic Periodontitis And Its Effects On The Adults And...
Chronic periodontitis has been identified as the most prevalent form of periodontitis affecting the
adults and occasionally the adolescents and children.(Merin, 2015) This periodontal disease of
inflammatory origin is thought to be the result of host immune response against bacterial colonies
in the subgingival plaque.(Merin, 2015) In many cases, systemic and environmental factors play a
significant role in the disease progression. Common risk factors such as uncontrolled diabetes
mellitus and smoking, contribute to periodontal destruction in genetically susceptible individuals
by modifying the host s immune reactions towards periodontal pathogens. Clinically, the diagnosis
of chronic periodontitisis made based on the presence of supragingival and subgingival plaque
and calculus, signs of gingival inflammation, periodontal attachment loss and radiographic bone
loss. Chronic periodontitis can be further classified based on the extent and severity of
periodontal destruction. Localised chronic periodontitis is diagnosed when less than 30% of the
sites are affected; whereas the generalised form of the disease affects more than 30% of the sites.
The severity of the disease is determined by the amount of clinical attachment loss. It is classified
as mild, moderate or severe when 1 2mm, 3 4mm or 5mm or more attachment loss is recorded
respectively. (Merin, 2015) The treatment of chronic periodontitis involves a sequence of
therapeutic procedures, which is termed periodontal

The Human Of Human Cloning
1.INTRODUCTION
Human cloning is the creation of a genetically identical copy of a human. However, this term not
only refers to the entire artificial human, but also the reproduction of human cells and tissues. There
are two types of theoretical human cloning: reproductive cloning which would involve making an
entire cloned human and the other, therapeutic cloning, which would involve cloning cells from a
human for use in medicine and transplants by somatic cell nuclear transfer or pluripotent stem cell
induction. In reproductive cloning the entire genetic code is reproduced from a single body cell of
an adult individual. The most common cloning technique is somatic cell nuclear transfer (SCNT).
The procedure is as follows:

iPSCs are typically derived by introducing products of specific sets of pluripotency associated
genes, or reprogramming factors , into a given cell type.
2.ISSUES
Although the human cloning seems fairly beneficial and useful for human welfare, the possibility
of human cloning has raised controversies. Concerning reproductive cloning, advocates believe that
parents who cannot otherwise procreate should have access to the technology. Some opponents
have concerns that technology is not yet developed enough to be safe while others emphasize that
reproductive cloning could be prone to abuse (leading to the generation of humans whose organs
and tissues would be harvested), and have concerns about how cloned individuals could integrate
with families and with society at large. With regards to therapeutic cloning, the problem is that
many attempts are often required to create a viable egg. The stability of the egg with the infused
somatic nucleus is poor and it can require hundreds of attempts before success is attained.
Therapeutic cloning does result in the destruction of an embryo after stem cells are extracted and
this destruction has stirred controversy over the morality of the procedure. Some argue that the pros
outweigh the cons with regards to treating disease and support development of therapeutic cloning
in order to generate tissues and whole

internet services continues to face evolving and transformational changes more often than other
industries such as services. It should come to no surprise given the advances in technologies across
the globe, that an industry that is heavily technological based should also follow suit. This allows
for both old and new organizations to tap in the growth of both the human and technological capital
to bring about revolutionary changes in the telecommunicationsworld. For example, the introduction

TV providers such as Hulu and Netflix, it still maintains a strong position as an organization that

shareholder should also be a little cautious, because Comcast still faces a number of obstacles that
might impede or compromise the growth of expected return when shareholders invest in their
securities. As mentioned before, there s a growing number of competitors that offer different,
cheaper telecommunication services that still uphold the consumer s expectations in regards of
entertainment, such as streamlining content from the internet and offering the consumer the choice
of preferring skinnier packages (cable/TV programming) at cheaper rates. These rising competitors
will give Comcast a run for their money as consumers will switch from the traditional cable outlets,
such as Comcast and Cox, in favor for a service such as Google or Sling. Another thing to take into
account is the uncertainty of the FCC s decisions at imposing stronger regulations in regards to
broadband width and internet connections; the Net Neutrality Act might place a hindrance on the

the meat packing factories. Chicago was one of the biggest meat packing industries at the turn of
the century in the U.S. He wanted to show how the immigrants lived and the conditions they had to

What Is The Relationship Between Of Mice And Men
Of Mice and Men, is a world famous novel which was written by John Steinbeck back in 1937.
The novel is mainly about George and Lennie and their life. But I am not going to write about that.
I am mainly going to focus on the characters which live on the ranch in the book (Crooks, Candy,
Curley and Slim).
These are the characters which work on the ranch:
Crooks takes care of the horses on the ranch. He has quite the history with those animals, the
reason why he is called Crooks is that a horse kicked him and that left him with a crooked back.
Crooks is the only black man on the ranch, therefore he lives alone in his own place in the barn
with the animals. Candy is in a similar position to Crooks, they are both rejected by the ranch hands,

At the same time, Deborah also practiced judicial duties and militaristic leadership upon the

Memory and how it affects Anton s character
Memory is defined as The faculty of the mind by which it retains the knowledge of previous
thoughts, impressions, or events. Memories are units of information that have impacted one s life
and are stored in the brain for years. In some cases, dramatic events may not let the brain register
every single detail about a situation. This is much like Anton s case of the winter of 1945 of the

that the woman in the cell with him was one of Ploeg s killers. This was one of those important
moments in your life that is so grave you can t allow yourself to remember. It may have been due
to the fact that Anton didn t remember, or didn t want to remember the details that remind him of
the death of his family members.
After he meets Takes he meets Karen Kortweg one of the more important characters in the plot.
The Kortweg s were the ones who took Fake Ploeg s body and dragged it in front of Anton s
family s house, the Steenwijk residence. When meeting Karen, she finally explains the reasoning
behind why she left the body in front of the Steenwijk s house and not any of the other two
neighbour s houses. Once she goes into detail about the families and her and her father s reasoning
s Anton begins to understand and remember the neighbourhood he grew up in and the events of
that night.
It is amazing how memories can be jogged by a single person, object, sound or scent. The people
Anton has met and the places he revisits allow him to remember the events of his torturous past,
which permit him to determine his future. Without memories people would not be able to be happy

State governments have taken some steps to reduce the number of drunk drivingincidents, yet the

In the 1960 s, the first ever email was sent, and this was where online social media began to
commence. Although the first recognisable social media website was called Six Degrees, and
was not created until 1997. This allowed users to design a profile and chat with other users on
the site however, two years on, in 1999, the first blogging sites started to become popular, which
is what started the social media sites that we know today. This lead to social media exploding in
popularity, and next is how social media has evolved.
In the early 2000 s, MySpace became increasingly popular and in 2005 YouTube was created.
This was a huge advance in technology, as it allowed users an entirely different and new way for

Physics of Mining Essay
Mining is a necessary component of the world we live in and it has been practiced for thousands
of years. The mining industry produces billions of tons of raw product every year. The process of
mining is very complicated and involves plenty of physics! Two main components of the mine cycle
are: Drilling, and Blasting. Some important factors in miningare the pillars, rock elasticity, and the
slope stability of the ground being mined.
A basic method for destroying rock is mechanically induced stress, such as drills and erosion jets.
A turbine drill for example, uses a turbine to rotate a diamond faced cutter wheel. The power
output, p, can be calculated using the equation p=2 ПЂNT where N is the rotational speed of the
turbine and T is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is normal for these shearers to have up to 1 megawatt of power!
Blasting is used in mining to break up rock or create space. Explosives are placed in a blasting
hole and then detonated. The velocity of the detonation of the explosives are enormous. The
detonation of a common explosive such as ANFO (an agent consisting of ammonium nitrate
prills and fuel oil) can reach velocities of 5,000 m/s in a 375 mm blasting hole. Blasting is very
dangerous because it produces fragments of rock moving at high speeds called flyrock. There have
been cases of flyrock weighing up to 500 kg being projected almost a full kilometer!
It is often necessary for miners to take into account the resistance of rock bodies to compression

elasticity.
The three moduli of elasticity are:
Young s Modulus: E= (Applied force/Area) / (Change in length/original length)
Shear Modulus: G= (Applied force/unit area) / (Angular deformation)
Bulk Modulus K= (Force/unit area) / (Change in volume/unit volume)
Young s Modulus measures the ability of a body to resist elongation or shortening.
Shear Modulus measures the ability of a body to resist a change in shape.
Bulk Modulus measures the ability of a body to resist a change in volume.

Character Analysis Of Torvald In The Ibsen
Torvald and Nora Helmer s marriage was a very deceptive one. Torvald treated Nora as if she
were a child or favorite puppy according to a review by David Galens and Lynn Spampinato.
Nora does everything Torvald says and is always on her best behavior for him. She is, at the start
of the play, entirely dependent on Torvald. Nora lies and hides her truths from Torvald. She lies
about the macaroons, her jobs, and her sources of income after taking out a loan in her father s
name. Nora is a very strong and independent lady who does not actually need Torvald for anything,
but she deceives herself into thinking so until the end of the play (Galens and Spampinato).
In Jennette Lee s The Ibsen Secret: A Key to the Prose... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Torvald s treatment however did Nora no justice, in fact, it is implied at the end of the play that
their marriage and her treatment was more fitting of an arranged marriage: ...I was simply
transferred from papa s hands into yours. You arranged everything according to your own
taste...You and papa have committed a great sin against me (Ibsen 1531). The reason is it such a
sin indeed is because not only does she act this way herself, but she treats her own children
similarly.
Nora has fooled herself into believing that everything she does is aimed towards being the best
wife to Torvald. She is only concerned with being the perfect wife according to a review by
David M. Galens and Lynn M. Spampinato. However, what makes Nora s behavior even more
disturbing is that she is aware of what tricks are necessary to get what she wants which is
demonstrated in the opening scene of the play discussed above. The money she hustles from
Torvald is used for her to shop and to help pay back the loan she took out several years back.
Seven years prior, while on a trip to Italy, Tovald became gravely ill and was not expected to
survive. Nora, out of love for her husband, went to a money lender named Krogstad and borrowed
250 pounds to stay in Italy long enough to save

Analysis Of Sherwood Anderson s Hands
Sherwood Anderson Hands is a short story written by Sherwood Anderson. The action takes
place during the 1890s in Winesburg, Ohio, however, the writer takes you back to Pennsylvania
for the reader to understand the background of the story. The tone of the writer is serious. Hands
deals with the psychological trauma suffered by Adolph Myers, who later adopts the name of
Wing Biddlebaum after being driven out of his town in Pennsylvania by false accusations. I
think we can see how emotionally hurt and mentally disturbed Biddlebaum is. When Willard
asks him about his hands; Biddlebaum gets upset and remembers his students. You hear them
talk and you try to imitate them. He made the use of the word imitate probably because his
students jumped in the bandwagon of accusing him. Here and there went his hands, caressing the
shoulders of the boys, playing about the tousled heads. When I first started reading about how
caring he was for the boys, I suspected immediately of him. But the truth is that Adolph Myers
didn t have bad intentions. The touching of the hair were a part of the schoolmaster s effort to
carry a dream into the young minds. What I dislike is the injustice committed by these parents
and the people from the town. Instead of digging deeper to find out the truth they decided to
blame him when there was a lack of evidence to support the facts. Things are not always what they
look like and we should we careful of the things we say. It has been tested

The Famine In Somalia
History always repeats itself now it s Somalia s turn.
The United States should be involved in the famine in Somalia by not only sending, food, water
and money, but also ways to clean and purify their own water.
Famine is something that is not very common. It is a widespread and extreme scarcity of food.
According to the United Nations, more than two people per 10,000 die each day, acute
malnutrition rates are above 30 percent, all livestock is dead and there is less than 2,100
kilocalories of food and 4 liters of water available per person per day (LeGagnoux,Borgen Project ),
confirming that Somalia is in fact suffering through a famine.

Unnecessary December 7, 1941 Roosevelt said, A date that will live in infamy. Japan entered
World War II in 1940 alongside the Axis which included Germany and Italy. Hideki Tojo then
came to power a year later. The Government saw the Dutch East Indies rich in oil as well as other
Asian territories. However the only threat to stopping the Japanese from conquering them was
the U.S. Navy. In order for this to happen Japan bombed the Huge Naval base at Pearl Harbor in
Hawaii. The surprise attack killed 2,400 Americans and damaged warships and planes. Congress
quickly took action and declared war on Japan. On December 11 Japan s allies declared war on the
United States. Roosevelt signed Executive order 9066 on February 19, 1942. Executive order 9066
forced all the Japanese on the West Coast into internment camps without a trial, (American History
807 811). The internment of Japanese Americans during WWII was not justified because it was
done because of their race, it violated their individual rights, and it did not help the war effort.
The U.S. issued Executive Order 9066 because of fear and anger towards the Japanese. American
citizens were put in prison camps for crimes they did not commit. The only reason Japanese
Americans were put into internment camps was because Japan attacked the United States, But

Huntington Religion
The argument Huntington is giving is that there will not be near as many fights over politics and
economic values but more of culture and religious values. Throughout the article he talks a lot
about what he believes will happen but one thing that we can be sure is he believes that there
will be war over culture. As people define their identity in ethnic and religious terms, they are
likely to see an us versus them relation existing between themselves and people of different
ethnicity or religion. This quote from the article shows us that he does believe people will fight
because they see it as it is their culture against everyone else s. It is hard to talk things out with
people who believe the complete different things you believe.... Show more content on

Each one of the claims will go onto support the overall issue that culture will cause the clash of
civilizations. A great support Huntington uses is that no matter what we think of cultures each one
is different in many ways. If its religion, language, or different historical backgrounds these will
cause conflict to arise. With each civilization being different it can be hard to get along with other
people because of how different their views might be. Another issue that arises is that not all, but
many civilizations are influenced by the west. This is where the idea of westernization comes into
play. Each community is trying to improve and be bigger and better themselves, they are trying to
be better than their neighbors. If one civilization improves the surrounding groups will want to be
the same. This means they will compete to be the same or even better than the civilization that
already made it. This can lead to conflict and death between civilizations. Another reason is that
when conflicts arise between civilizations it is a lot harder to resolve than a political or economical
one. Like stated before it is very difficult to change someone s beliefs, that means there is very little
wiggle room for negotiation. The final example that Huntington writes about is that the economic
regionalism is increasing. This means that more cultures and civilization are trading between
themselves, but

How Did Thomas Cromwell Influence European Society
Thomas Cromwell, Jean Baptiste Colbert and William Pitt each influenced their country and
changed the course of European history in their own way. Thomas Cromwell, often regarded as
a corrupt and ruthless politician, was also a dedicated evangelical, who s ideologies and
determination changed England s religious biases forever. Cromwell was one of the most
powerful and influential figures of the 16th century, his masterful skills of manipulation allowed
him rise all the way from the bottom of social hierarchy to almost having king like power. Jean

Henry VIII was having trouble conceiving a male child with his current wife: Katharine of
Aragon. Henry wanted the current pope to give him an annulment so Henry could marry Anne
Boleyn. Wolsey was unsuccessful in his attempts due to interference from Katharine. This led
Henry to lose trust in Wolsey and led to his eventual fall from grace and death in 1529.
Cromwell was able to distance himself enough from Wolsey that when he fell, he did not take
Cromwell with him. This left Cromwell in the perfect position to fill the space that Wolsey left
empty. Through a series of events, the king enlisted Cromwell to use his legal skills to convince
parliament to create laws that undermine the authority of the pope, allowing Henry to divorce
Katharine without the pope s permission. Henry VIII was wildly impressed by Cromwell success,
Cromwell was granted the title Master of Jewels and invited to the English court. This complicated
situation is largely responsible for Cromwell s initial rise to power. (MacCulloch, Borman

Similarities And Differences Between Starbucks And Walmart
Every business has its own business strategy which leads the company towards success and
accomplishment. (Stankeviciute et al., 2012, p. 1200). The following analysis will examine the
similarities and differences between Starbucks and Walmart in regards to people, profit, and planet.
People
Legal Compliance. Determining the relationship between a company and people can be evaluated
in several ways. Legal compliance issues not only provide powerful insight into an organization s
ethical business practices, but also how these engagements affect people within the company. In
Chou vs. Starbucks, it was determined that Starbucks misclassified shift supervisors as
nonexempt customer service employees in violation of California law enabling supervising
employees to share in tip pools with non management baristas. (Brody et al., 2008). Here, a
significant amount of employees were prevented from receiving fair compensation in this tip
sharing model. Many employees are reliant upon tips as part of their compensation and allowing
managers with higher pay rates to also share tips diminishes the ability of baristas to earn a
proper wage. Starbucks has also struggled to comply with tax codes as seen through its failure to
pay the appropriate amount of taxes owed based on profits over a fourteen year period. (Brody et
al., 2008; Shaheen, 2012). Not only did Starbucks consciously engaged in tax avoidance, but also
did so consistently for over a decade. Tax dollars are used to promote the

The Concept Of Intertextuality
Introduction
Research Background
Derived from the Latin intertexto, intertextuality is the complex relationship between texts, which
accounts for a separate field or location in which the text can act. The term intertextuality was
acknowledged as Julia Kristeva s coinage in the late 1960s in the context of structuralist and post
structuralist thoughts going at it hammer and tongs. Translation Studies, an interdisciplinary field,
centers on creating a comprehensive solution for complex problems encountered in translating
process. From the moment that the theory of intertextuality was integrated into the field of
Translation Studies in the late 1970s, the concept of translation activity has undergone a radical
evolution. Since the intertextual network has weakened the major and minor relationships between
the source text and the target ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Relevant literature review are offered in Chapter 1, exploring where a contribution to knowledge
may be situated. Chapter 2 begins by considering the origin of intertextuality theory from a number
of linguistic, literary and philosophical key figures to outline clearly its development process.
Thereafter, it is explained how intertextuality is related to translation. An explanation then follows
of how translating activity can be analyzed in terms of reading and translating when the
intertextuality is taken as an effective approach and principle. This chapter also includes
considering intertextuality as applicable to the analysis of the case adopted in this study, explaining
why it is feasible to use the framework to analyze the material. The main analyses are presented in
Chapters 3 with intertextual approach to the co translation. Fairclough s classification of manifest
and constitutive intertextuality is used to construct the structure of this part and source and target
texts are then analyzed to explore intertextual effects on translating

Mao s Last Dancer Belonging
Throughout Li Cunxin s memoir, Mao s Last Dancer, Li immerses the readers into the complex,
restrictive and challenging lifestyle he lived through various prose techniques, which engage the
audience into the cultural values of his life. Some examples of this is when he was living in
communist China, in a commune, going to a Beijing dance Academy, going to Houston and
finally moving to Australia. Through these experiences, culture is portrayed as being both
limiting and liberating. Culture could be limiting because it is was so restrictive because of Mao
s rules but it was also liberating because Chinese people are meant to be loyal to their country and
since their country is communist, they believed that it was the most free nation in the world. This
is shown in the story of the blind rabbit, where Li is taught that nothing comes easily, allegiance to
country surpasses that to family and to keep pride in the family name. An idea that chinese culture

Touch Of Evil And Breakfast At Tiffany s Comparison
A film is an art form and being an art form means that it consists of many artist coming together.
Of these many artist, includes composers who make the soundtrack for films. Henry Mancini,
once said, the real creative power is in the mind and heart of the composer. Henry Mancini was
the composer for Touch of Evil and Breakfast at Tiffany s. While these two films may seem like
they don t connect with one another, they do and it is with Henry Mancini. By examining both of
these films through the lens of Henry Mancini s work of music, we can see that Mancini s music

At 10:26 the music strongly resembles the composition that was at the beginning of Touch of
Evil, it has the same ticking sound, it is just much quieter during this scene. Another scene
where we see an overlap is at 31:57, the party scene. In this scene the jazz music playing has the
same bongo drums that were in many scenes of Touch of Evil. And again there is another
overlap which shows that Mancini has a common stylistic trait and that is during the scene at
46:18. This scene is where Paul is being followed by Doc and during this scene the music is very
tense, and has very isolated instruments like in Touch of Evil. In Touch of Evil the scene where
Vargas is walking alone also has a tense tone in the music and like this scene it also has isolated
instruments. As a result, these few scenes show that Mancini has a specific style of music that he
uses, so much so that some of the same sounds in Touch of Evil are prevalent in this film. Mancini
shows his authorship and impacts the film with these choices because like in Touch of Evil they
tell the viewers how to feel. Whether it s to feel happy like the upbeat jazz when Paul and Holly
are going to Tiffany s or to feel anxious when Paul is being followed by Doc. Without these pieces
of music, the story line couldn t be followed especially at scenes like where Paul is being followed
and there is no dialogue to tell viewers how he feels. Mancini s compositions drive the

The Benefits Of Bilingualism And The Human Brain
The human brain is capable of the most remarkable abilities. It doesn t just manage the human body,
but it also allows us to communicate by processing, interpreting, and understanding language.
Human beings use language as the main source of communication, it allows an individual to
express her/himself with greater precision. Each country has their own language, and with language
comes different accents and dialects. Speaking one language alone is enough for the brainto
develop, as that language is being constantly used. When it comes to speaking two languages, that s
when the brain is strengthened, the individual is more intelligent and is able to acquire knowledge
more easily. The use of two languages is described by the phenomenon of bilingualism. The effects
of bilingualism are linked to the functional neuroplasticity the ability of the brain to modify its
structure and function with experience. This neuroplastic effect leads to changes in personality in
which a bilinguist is capable of not just switching languages but switching personalities as well.
One can argue that it takes more than being bilingual to change brain activity and function, but
most would agree that the benefits of bilingualism outweigh the drawbacks. Advanced technology
has shown that bilingualism has improved cognitive control, changed brain activity over time to
strengthen its neurons, and protect against age related diseases. A major recent discovery over the
effects of bilingualism is a

Confucius Vs Vietnamese Culture

culture is strongly influenced by Confucianism, a simpler way of life, and the connection within

Rook, Karen S. (2013)). The division of labor between the parents impacts their parenting style and

Discrepancies
Between parents and children, differences in acculturation are a common occurrence in immigrant
families including, the Vietnamese culture (Vu, Huy Q., Rook, Karen S. (2013)). When Vietnamese
immigrated to Western societies, the ethics and manners were incorporated, and was much easier
for the children to focus on then parents (Vu, Huy Q. Rook, Karen S. (2013)). Due to the children
finding the ethics quicker and without difficulty Vietnamese children begin to wander from the
traditional values causing struggles between the two generations (Vu, Huy Q. Rook, Karen S.
(2013)). Intergenerational conflict may perhaps have more dominant with parents and daughters
rather than sons (Vu, Huy Q. Rook, Karen S. (2013)). There is a solution with acculturation and
intergeneration tensions unfortunately, it has received little attention to date (Vu, Huy Q. Rook,

Social Spaces
Immigrant youth are able to interact with their peers in school, which includes various mixed
gender settings (Stritikus, T., Nguyen, D. (2007)). Parents have a tendency to have stern rules

Advantages And Disadvantages To Traditional Database...
Advantages of Database Management System:
The DBMS has a number of advantages as compared to traditional computer file processing
approach. The DBA must keep in mind these benefits or capabilities during designing databases,
coordinating and monitoring the DBMS.
The major advantages of DBMS are described below.
1. Controlling Data Redundancy:
In non database systems (traditional computer file processing), each application program has its
own files. In this case, the duplicated copies of the same data are created at many places. In
DBMS, all the data of an organization is integrated into a single database. The data is recorded at
only one place in the database and it is not duplicated. For example, the dean s faculty file and the
faculty payroll file contain several items that are identical. When they are converted into database,
the data is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In DBMS, database and application programs are separated from each other. The DBMS sits in
between them. You can easily change the structure of database without modifying the application

file based system, the structure of data items are built into the individual application programs.
Thus the data is dependent on the data file and vice versa.
15. Advanced Capabilities:
DBMS also provides advance capabilities for online access and reporting of data through Internet.
Today, most of the database systems are online. The database technology is used in conjunction
with Internet technology to access data on the web servers.
Disadvantages of Database Management System (DBMS):

Sustained Release Analysis
Time released supplements are dissolved slowly and deliver a steady amount of vitamins over a
period of time. Sustained release has a longer half life and produces stable levels of the vitamin
throughout the day (Cascade, Kalali, Weisler, 2008). They are enteric coated, which protects them
from being digested in the stomach. They contain tiny pellets of the vitamin, each individually
coated so that their contents are steadily released overtime (United States Pharmacopeia, 2012).
Extended release is designed to prolong absorption of vitamins with shorter half lives. This allows
for longer dosing intervals and decreases fluctuations in serum levels (Perucca, 2009). One

  • 2. Impact Of Physical Geography Impact of Physical Geography and Development: Physical geography plays a significant part in the development and success of different people and countries. A country s location can greatly affect how that country does economically. For example, country s near water typically do better economically than landlocked because water unlocks more trade opportunities. However, some landlocked countries can still do well because of it s neighboring countries that may be located near water. Another example is the type of environment you re located in. People in countries with a more agricultural based environment will live very differently than a country surrounded by desert that may focus on oil or minerals. Yet, some countries, like the U.S, are so big that they have many different climates, ecosystems, and environments; allowing for many different types of ways to make money, trade, and live. A countires location can also affect how people live. Anything from climate to where the country is located compared to the equator can completely determine how someone lives. A place with a rainy climate that may rely on industry will be completely different that one with a more mild climate that relies on agriculture. A countires location from the equator will also drastically affect how people live. A country like Brazil that is right next to the equator will focus their industries on different things than a country like Russia, who is far away from the equator, will rely on different types of industries. A country s location can also determine how it is affected by natural disasters. For example, Thailand has a risk of tsunamis, California is greatly affected by earthquakes, and places like Hawaii are affected by volcanos. All of those things can affect a country s economy and development. Core Periphery Model or World Systems Theory: In The Power of Place Harm De Blij divides the world into two parts; the core and periphery. Core countries are often successful economically, have a dominant military, and have overall better health. Periphery countries are often poor, don t have much power, have more diseases and overall worse health, and low standards of living. Global cores are places like the U.S.A, China, ... When Mexicans won independence from Spain in 1821, they encouraged trade with the United States via New Mexico. Lack of water and hostile Native Americans made the trip dangerous, but William Becknell, Father of the Santa Fe Trail, left Missouri that year to arrive in Santa Fe a month and a half later. After a large profit, Becknell continued to make trips, blazing the path that became known as the Santa Fe Trail. Soon, traders, visitors, and the military would regularly travel the route. Roman civilization had its roots in Hellenistic culture because they idolized them. They borrowed and enhanced upon the Greek intellectual accomplishments. As the empire expanded this would become increasingly important. As the Romans continued to expand their empire and influence, they were also spreading the culture of those who influenced them the Greeks . These effects reached from China, India, the Middle East, and some portions of Africa. As different regions adopted new aspects of life, they further implement that into their culture. Then the as the culture grows, it grows with the influences adopted form that of the Romans who borrowed it form the Greeks. Similarly, with the Romans and Macedonians their conquest and implementation of their culture was the main source of the spread of Hellenistic culture. However the combination of controlling more regions and being more involved with global trade, the Romans were able to further expand Greek influence than those before them. Soon the Roman Empire began to decline and an even more impactful implementation of Greek culture began to arise in a region to the east. As the Roman Empire fell and small Kingdoms began to arise throughout Europe, in a different region of the world, an intellectual revolution began and flourished. During a period between the eighth and ninth centuries, the Islamic world of the Middle East Experienced its Golden Age . This was a period of advancements in the sciences, astronomy, mathematics, and medicine. The main source contributed to these advancements is from the Greeks. However this Golden Age may have been delayed for many years if not for a man named Mamun. Mamun was a Caliph who would ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Mechanical Valve Induced Lung Injury During mechanical ventilation, patients are at risk of injuries to their lungs caused by improper settings on ventilators. Mechanical ventilator induced lung injury (VILI) can affect the lung in several ways. Some of the ways the lung become affected is by excessive pressure, excessive volume, and not enough volume. When the lungs are affected by excessive pressure its termed pulmonary barotrauma. On the other hand, if the lungs receive too much volume it s called volutrauma. However, when the lungs don t receive enough volume its termed atelectrauma. This paper describes how pulmonary barotrauma, pulmonary volutrauma, and pulmonary atelectrauma affects the lungs during mechanical ventilationand ways to prevent them from happening. The first ventilator induced lung injury that I want to discuss is pulmonary barotrauma. Pulmonary barotrauma is a lung complication caused by too much positive pressure forced into the lungs by a mechanical ventilator. Pulmonary barotrauma occurs when the alveolar begins to rupture due to elevated transalveolar pressure. Transalveolar pressure is a function of both the tidal volume and the overall compliance of the lungs. Researchers use plateau pressures to get an estimation of transalveolar pressure. Plateau pressures can be used as a tool to help measure for the risk of pulmonary barotrauma. Researchers have discovered that plateau pressures less than 30 cmH2O have shown to reduce the cause of pulmonary barotrauma. Guy W. Soo wrote ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

So Roger Chillingworth the man of skill, the kind and friendly physician strove to go deep into his patient s bosom, delving among his principles, prying into his recollections, and probing everything with caution touch, like a treasure seeker in a dark cavern. There are many different ways to transform this E R diagram to a tree structure diagram. All these diagrams, however, share the property that the underlying database tree (or trees) will have replicated records. The decision regarding which transformation should be used depends on many factors, including The type of queries expected on the database The degree to which the overall data base schema being modeled п¬Ѓts the given E R diagram We shall present a transformation that is as general as possible. That is, all other possible transformations are a special case of this one transformation. To transform the E R diagram of Figure E.6a into a tree structure diagram, we take these steps: 1. Create two separate tree structure diagrams, T1 and T2, each of which has the customer and account record types. In tree T1, customer is the root; in tree T2, account is the root. 2. Create the following two links: depositor, many to one link from account record type to customer record type, in T1 2. account customer, a many to one link from customer record type to ac count record type, in T2 The resulting tree structure diagrams appear in Figure E.6b. • 9. Chronic Periodontitis And Its Effects On The Adults And... Chronic periodontitis has been identified as the most prevalent form of periodontitis affecting the adults and occasionally the adolescents and children.(Merin, 2015) This periodontal disease of inflammatory origin is thought to be the result of host immune response against bacterial colonies in the subgingival plaque.(Merin, 2015) In many cases, systemic and environmental factors play a significant role in the disease progression. Common risk factors such as uncontrolled diabetes mellitus and smoking, contribute to periodontal destruction in genetically susceptible individuals by modifying the host s immune reactions towards periodontal pathogens. Clinically, the diagnosis of chronic periodontitisis made based on the presence of supragingival and subgingival plaque and calculus, signs of gingival inflammation, periodontal attachment loss and radiographic bone loss. Chronic periodontitis can be further classified based on the extent and severity of periodontal destruction. Localised chronic periodontitis is diagnosed when less than 30% of the sites are affected; whereas the generalised form of the disease affects more than 30% of the sites. The severity of the disease is determined by the amount of clinical attachment loss. It is classified as mild, moderate or severe when 1 2mm, 3 4mm or 5mm or more attachment loss is recorded respectively. (Merin, 2015) The treatment of chronic periodontitis involves a sequence of therapeutic procedures, which is termed periodontal ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

However, this term not only refers to the entire artificial human, but also the reproduction of human cells and tissues. There are two types of theoretical human cloning: reproductive cloning which would involve making an entire cloned human and the other, therapeutic cloning, which would involve cloning cells from a human for use in medicine and transplants by somatic cell nuclear transfer or pluripotent stem cell induction. In reproductive cloning the entire genetic code is reproduced from a single body cell of an adult individual. The most common cloning technique is somatic cell nuclear transfer (SCNT). Concerning reproductive cloning, advocates believe that parents who cannot otherwise procreate should have access to the technology. Some opponents have concerns that technology is not yet developed enough to be safe while others emphasize that reproductive cloning could be prone to abuse (leading to the generation of humans whose organs and tissues would be harvested), and have concerns about how cloned individuals could integrate with families and with society at large. With regards to therapeutic cloning, the problem is that many attempts are often required to create a viable egg. The stability of the egg with the infused somatic nucleus is poor and it can require hundreds of attempts before success is attained. Therapeutic cloning does result in the destruction of an embryo after stem cells are extracted and this destruction has stirred controversy over the morality of the procedure. Some argue that the pros outweigh the cons with regards to treating disease and support development of therapeutic cloning in order to generate tissues and whole ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

A basic method for destroying rock is mechanically induced stress, such as drills and erosion jets. A turbine drill for example, uses a turbine to rotate a diamond faced cutter wheel. The detonation of a common explosive such as ANFO (an agent consisting of ammonium nitrate prills and fuel oil) can reach velocities of 5,000 m/s in a 375 mm blasting hole. Blasting is very dangerous because it produces fragments of rock moving at high speeds called flyrock. There have been cases of flyrock weighing up to 500 kg being projected almost a full kilometer! Each one of the claims will go onto support the overall issue that culture will cause the clash of civilizations. A great support Huntington uses is that no matter what we think of cultures each one is different in many ways. If its religion, language, or different historical backgrounds these will cause conflict to arise. With each civilization being different it can be hard to get along with other people because of how different their views might be. Another issue that arises is that not all, but many civilizations are influenced by the west. This is where the idea of westernization comes into play. Each community is trying to improve and be bigger and better themselves, they are trying to be better than their neighbors. If one civilization improves the surrounding groups will want to be the same. This means they will compete to be the same or even better than the civilization that already made it. This can lead to conflict and death between civilizations. Another reason is that when conflicts arise between civilizations it is a lot harder to resolve than a political or economical one. Like stated before it is very difficult to change someone s beliefs, that means there is very little wiggle room for negotiation. The final example that Huntington writes about is that the economic regionalism is increasing. This means that more cultures and civilization are trading between themselves, but ... Wolsey was unsuccessful in his attempts due to interference from Katharine. This led Henry to lose trust in Wolsey and led to his eventual fall from grace and death in 1529. Cromwell was able to distance himself enough from Wolsey that when he fell, he did not take Cromwell with him. This left Cromwell in the perfect position to fill the space that Wolsey left empty. Through a series of events, the king enlisted Cromwell to use his legal skills to convince parliament to create laws that undermine the authority of the pope, allowing Henry to divorce Katharine without the pope s permission. Henry VIII was wildly impressed by Cromwell success, Cromwell was granted the title Master of Jewels and invited to the English court. • 28. Similarities And Differences Between Starbucks And Walmart Every business has its own business strategy which leads the company towards success and accomplishment. (Stankeviciute et al., 2012, p. 1200). The following analysis will examine the similarities and differences between Starbucks and Walmart in regards to people, profit, and planet. People Legal Compliance. Determining the relationship between a company and people can be evaluated in several ways. Legal compliance issues not only provide powerful insight into an organization s ethical business practices, but also how these engagements affect people within the company. In Chou vs. Starbucks, it was determined that Starbucks misclassified shift supervisors as nonexempt customer service employees in violation of California law enabling supervising employees to share in tip pools with non management baristas. (Brody et al., 2008). Here, a significant amount of employees were prevented from receiving fair compensation in this tip sharing model. Many employees are reliant upon tips as part of their compensation and allowing managers with higher pay rates to also share tips diminishes the ability of baristas to earn a proper wage. Starbucks has also struggled to comply with tax codes as seen through its failure to pay the appropriate amount of taxes owed based on profits over a fourteen year period. (Brody et al., 2008; Shaheen, 2012). Not only did Starbucks consciously engaged in tax avoidance, but also did so consistently for over a decade. Tax dollars are used to promote the ... • 30. The Concept Of Intertextuality Introduction Research Background Derived from the Latin intertexto, intertextuality is the complex relationship between texts, which accounts for a separate field or location in which the text can act. The term intertextuality was acknowledged as Julia Kristeva s coinage in the late 1960s in the context of structuralist and post structuralist thoughts going at it hammer and tongs. Translation Studies, an interdisciplinary field, centers on creating a comprehensive solution for complex problems encountered in translating process. From the moment that the theory of intertextuality was integrated into the field of Translation Studies in the late 1970s, the concept of translation activity has undergone a radical evolution. Mao s Last Dancer Belonging Throughout Li Cunxin s memoir, Mao s Last Dancer, Li immerses the readers into the complex, restrictive and challenging lifestyle he lived through various prose techniques, which engage the audience into the cultural values of his life. Some examples of this is when he was living in communist China, in a commune, going to a Beijing dance Academy, going to Houston and finally moving to Australia. Through these experiences, culture is portrayed as being both limiting and liberating. Culture could be limiting because it is was so restrictive because of Mao s rules but it was also liberating because Chinese people are meant to be loyal to their country and since their country is communist, they believed that it was the most free nation in the world. This is shown in the story of the blind rabbit, where Li is taught that nothing comes easily, allegiance to country surpasses that to family and to keep pride in the family name. Of these many artist, includes composers who make the soundtrack for films. Henry Mancini, once said, the real creative power is in the mind and heart of the composer. Henry Mancini was the composer for Touch of Evil and Breakfast at Tiffany s. While these two films may seem like they don t connect with one another, they do and it is with Henry Mancini. Another scene where we see an overlap is at 31:57, the party scene. In this scene the jazz music playing has the same bongo drums that were in many scenes of Touch of Evil. And again there is another overlap which shows that Mancini has a common stylistic trait and that is during the scene at 46:18. This scene is where Paul is being followed by Doc and during this scene the music is very tense, and has very isolated instruments like in Touch of Evil. In Touch of Evil the scene where Vargas is walking alone also has a tense tone in the music and like this scene it also has isolated instruments. As a result, these few scenes show that Mancini has a specific style of music that he uses, so much so that some of the same sounds in Touch of Evil are prevalent in this film. Mancini shows his authorship and impacts the film with these choices because like in Touch of Evil they tell the viewers how to feel. Whether it s to feel happy like the upbeat jazz when Paul and Holly are going to Tiffany s or to feel anxious when Paul is being followed by Doc. • 35. The Benefits Of Bilingualism And The Human Brain The human brain is capable of the most remarkable abilities. It doesn t just manage the human body, but it also allows us to communicate by processing, interpreting, and understanding language. Human beings use language as the main source of communication, it allows an individual to express her/himself with greater precision. Each country has their own language, and with language comes different accents and dialects. Speaking one language alone is enough for the brainto develop, as that language is being constantly used. When it comes to speaking two languages, that s when the brain is strengthened, the individual is more intelligent and is able to acquire knowledge more easily. The use of two languages is described by the phenomenon of bilingualism. The effects of bilingualism are linked to the functional neuroplasticity the ability of the brain to modify its structure and function with experience. This neuroplastic effect leads to changes in personality in which a bilinguist is capable of not just switching languages but switching personalities as well. One can argue that it takes more than being bilingual to change brain activity and function, but most would agree that the benefits of bilingualism outweigh the drawbacks. Advanced technology has shown that bilingualism has improved cognitive control, changed brain activity over time to strengthen its neurons, and protect against age related diseases. A major recent discovery over the effects of bilingualism is a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Advantages of Database Management System: The DBMS has a number of advantages as compared to traditional computer file processing approach. The DBA must keep in mind these benefits or capabilities during designing databases, coordinating and monitoring the DBMS. The major advantages of DBMS are described below. 1. Controlling Data Redundancy: In non database systems (traditional computer file processing), each application program has its own files. In this case, the duplicated copies of the same data are created at many places. In DBMS, all the data of an organization is integrated into a single database.
