Name Of Identity
Everyone has an identity which is shaped by both religious, racial, or cultural affiliations, and present
day society. Amin Maalouf discusses this, calming the first group as being a vertical heritage and the
latter being a horizontal heritage. Though he clearly states that vertical heritage, cultural and religion,
are crucial, Maalouf believes that people are more influenced by society; their horizontal heritage. He
argues the fact that we may have our different vertical heritage, but we depend on our horizontal one
to live day to day.
The excerpt is displaying the fact that individual are most influenced by their surroundings. Races are
coming together and cultures are being intertwined but people still claim to be part of certain groups.
Maalouf claim is interesting when he gives light to ...the gulf that exists between what we are and
what we think we are (In the Name of Identity). This is significant because Maalouf is trying to say
that we keep in mind that we are part of this race or that sector of society, but we, as individuals,
primarily claim to a piece of society. Society plays a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Each individual has their own way of balancing the two heritages making up their identity. I believe
that even though horizontal heritage is what young adults depend on to survive and fit into society, for
me, vertical heritage is superior. Being a Pakistani Muslim, religion and culture always triumph the
ways of society. I wear a scarf, covering my hair, even though it is not the social norm. Whenever
anyone asks what my nationality is, I always have the tendency to say Pakistani even though I am an
American citizen. My identity is balanced with vertical heritage overarching the horizontal one. Each
individual creates their own identity, therefore it is up to him/her how much vertical heritage and
horizontal heritage they want to

Chris Mathews Hardball Summary
From the rousing introduction, Chris Mathews Hardball presents itself as a godsend to young aspiring
politicians, businessmen, and frankly, everyone alike. Pompously self assured, Mathews discusses his
reasoning to sharing his wisdom collected from his own experience and other major players in
Hardball . However after finishing the book, his audacity could be forgiven by the enjoyable nature of
his work, the information it provides, and the uncanny resemblance to Benjamin Franklin s writing
style. In the first section of Mathews self proclaimed classic and political manifesto, he presents the
world of politics through a series of informative if not redundant phrases, historical examples, and his
own experience in Washington. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If somehow the audience did not read the title of the chapter, do not despair. Mathews will repeat the
title or paraphrase it several times to justify its importance. Although this could be construed as
obnoxious, his work has merit. For instance, in Its not who you know; It s who you get to know, the
title and main theme of the first chapter is championed by President Johnson s long career in
Washington. Before and during his presidency, Johnson would go to extreme lengths to learn
everything about his opponents and wring every ounce of their weakness, desires, and political
agendas to his advantage. Although he was not mentioned in the following chapter All Politics is
Local Johnson realized when he moved NASA to Houston, Texas, that he helped stimulate the local
economy and provided new jobs, understanding the value of Texans support in his political career. His
predecessor, President John F. Kennedy and his family also understood the value of local communities
and would ask mayors, politicians and volunteers for their help in the presidential election (pg. 68 69).
According to Mathews, the willingness to ask can be the greatest of all power plays, which allowed
Kennedy to create a large network of dedicated followers and nab the Presidential Election from a

Blue Black Boy Analysis
The Power of a Picture
One of the most intriguing and influential images included in Citizen by Claudia Rankine is the image
entitled Blue Black Boy. Blue Black Boy is a visual work of art created by Carrie Mae Weems in 1990
s; Weems is a very successful female African American artist. Through a close reading of the image, I
was able to derive meaning out of the various aspects that work together to create such an eloquent
work of art. In its formal aspects, Blue Black Boy has several important ingredients that lead to its
overall meaning. To start, the first thing I noticed is the vibrant white shirt the African American boy is
wearing; it really stuck out to me and was brought into the foreground of the image. This immediately
connected with ideas mentioned earlier in Rankine s book, _______ (Rankine __). The white shirt as
with the white background make the subject stand out and a ripe target for scrutiny. Another very
intriguing aspect of the image is the words under each of the sequential identical pictures of the boy.
Under the first picture is the word blue with the others being black and boy respectively. I believe
Weems is implying how ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

prevalent; every aspect of life was exposed to. These feelings by society and ___ of racism have

While there was a great deal of racism, many having been pushing for equality amongst races. Weems

For my food menu, I can say that I honestly had to due a lot of thinking to dish out a good idea. For
starters, the main dish of meal is a serving of Rice. One cup of rice contains 206 calories. The fat
contained within the rice is about 0.4 grams. The rice also contains 2 milligrams of sodium and 55
milligrams of potassium. The total carbohydrates found in the dish equate to about 45 grams. White
Rice, although not unhealthy, is not a significant source of any vitamins. However, when eaten in
multiple 1 cup servings, it could accumulate to be a rather sufficient source of vitamin B 6 and of
Magnesium. Also, each cup contains 4.3 grams of protein. This dish was decided as the main dish, as

of the daily nutritional values for Vitamin A, and 28% of the daily nutritional values for Vitamin C.
That means that so far, the salad only contains 37 calories. To give the salad some texture and

with up to 5% of Vitamin A and magnesium nutritional values and 10% Vitamin C nutritional values

Essay on Human Factors in Long-Duration Spaceflight
A manned mission to Mars is an extremely dangerous excursion. Crewmembers can expect a six
month flight to the planet, one year of occupation, and a six month travel back. During this period,
numerous human factors challenges can complicate, and even ruin the entire mission. This paper will
identify human factors challenges the crew will face, describe why they are so dangerous, and finally,
identify ways to mitigate these challenges.
The first challenge in a long duration spaceflight is almost immediately apparent after lift off, leaving
the gravitational pull of Earth, and entering a micro gravity environment. Weightlessness can have
several different impacts on the human body. Astronauts who orbit the Earth on the ... Show more

One way to do this is with extensive exercise. Not just two or three times a week for 30 minutes.
Crewmembers must exercise six times a week for almost three hours at a time using equipment such
as the ergometer, treadmill, and the Resistance Exercise Device (RED) ( Use It or Lose It, 2004).
Another way to fight the effects of micro gravity is to create an artificial gravity. Creating artificial
gravity can be done using one of two techniques, a rotation or acceleration. The entire spacecraft could
rotate, or a single section of the spacecraft could do the rotation. This would give the astronauts the
opportunity to live or weight train in a non weightless environment (Hsu, 2010). High acceleration and
deceleration rates of the spacecraft could also provide a normal gravitational environment ( Space
Travel, n.d.).
Once the mission leaves the Earth s atmosphere and travels into space, the next challenge awaits. The
Earth s atmosphere and magnetic field act as a shield and deter a large portion space radiation. Space
radiation comes from our Sun in the form of solar radiation and also comes from outside our solar
system in the form of cosmic rays (Gray, 2013). Radiation may be the most dangerous phenomenon a
long duration spaceflight could face. Solar flares erupt from the Sun and send millions of tons of
charged particles into space at speeds

Attitudes towards women, and their role in American...
Attitudes towards women, and their role in American Musical Theatre.
For my essay, I am going to look at the attitudes towards women, both from men and other women,
and the significant role that that women had in telling the stories in American musical theatre.
Showboat was the first musical of its kind. Up to this point, musicals consisted of songs and dances,
with often feeble storylines based around the big stars. Showboat had a real story, adapted from a
novel, and both the singing and dancing told the story.
At the beginning of Showboat, after we have been introduced to the main characters, we hear the main
female characters attitude towards men and love.

The musical starts with a woman singing Summertime, to lull her baby to sleep. When this fails, her
husband has a try. He sings A woman is a sometime thing , this song shows the attitude of the men
towards their women in the community, that they are less respected than men.
Bess is clearly outside the close knit Catfish Row community. She is a bar girl and drug addict, who is
in total contrast to the stereotypical, hard working, religious women of Catfish Row. Crown
(Bess partner) kills a gambling partner and leaves Bess in Catfish
Row while he runs away from the police. Porgy and Bess become a couple, and we see Bess changing.
She starts to dress like the women of Catfish Row and gives money to help bury Clara s husband (who
Crown killed). The women s attitude towards her changes and they stop seeing her as a tart and start
looking at her as a friend.
Bess doesn t have a theme of her own, instead adopting part of the theme of whoever she s with.
The loneliness theme that she absorbs is used by Gershwin to show that Bess love can take away
Porgy s loneliness. Later this theme
adoption is used to link Bess with Sportin life. We are also shown
Bess dependence on other people as she doesn t sing a song on her own. By using Porgy s range of a
perfect fifth (used throughout the musical to show community and togetherness) she shows that she is
starting to fit in. Then her past catches

How Successful Was The Boxer Rebellion
The Boxer Rebellion of 1898 1901 is one of the best known but least understood events in Chinese
History. The Boxers were a group of Chinese peasants who despised every aspect of foreigners and
sought vengeance for the series of humiliations that China had suffered. Their primary objective was
to drive out all foreign influence out of China, which begs the question to what extent were the Boxers
successful in their fight against Imperialism? Throughout the nineteenth century, China was threatened
by the corruption of progress and foreign influence losing in both the Opium Wars and the Sino
Japanese War because of their inferiority to the European military technology which reflected the level

Historian Victor Purcell s most widely held view of the Boxers is that they began as a conservative
anti Qing movement; in other words, they opposed the existing government that started to conform to
Western powers. The efforts of the Boxer Rebellion was redundant in the sense that they led a
reformation. Although the Chinese government was mainly conservative it was still being controlled
by the foreign spheres of influence due to the unequal treaties signed to conclude the Opium and Sino
Japanese Wars. The Boxers were becoming well known practice, as their continuous rampages and
notable incidences linked to them gained the attention of conservative officials at the court, whom of
which convinced the Empress Dowager Cixi to view the Boxers as a useful asset for resisting foreign
pressure. Cixi had instructed provincial officials to not suppress the Boxers activities. Gaining the full
support of the Qing government meant they could fully focus on foreigners from that point on. The
Boxer s feat of gaining the support of the Qing government, which was being controlled by the West
supports the notion that China managed to drive out a considerable amount of influence. In spite of the
protest by the Western Powers and the ultimatum presented to Cixi, which was to legitimize the
foreign suppression of the Boxers or to legalize the Boxer uprising and Collaborate with them.
Empress Cixi chose the latter option because she believed that the Western powers were trying to

Natchez-Adams Curriculum Assessment
This report summarizes my findings after evaluating the curriculum of Natchez Adams School
District. I was granted access to the curriculum by Dr. Delarious Stewart, Curriculum Director for the
Natchez Adams School District. This report is designed to reflect how the curriculum is aligned with
state and district standards. A curriculum is vital to promoting the success of all students because it is
the content that is being taught in the school district. For this reason, the person or persons designing
and developing the curriculum must understand the many different facets of an effective curriculum. I

The Curricula Assessment Tool (CAT) is designed to assess school curricula based on a set of
standards based elements to determine its effectiveness. The evaluation tool assesses curricula on a
four point scale (4. effective, 3. good, 2. fair, and 1. ineffective). I found that the Natchez Adams
curriculum establishes high expectations for teaching and learning. The curriculum is integrated,
relevant, and student centered. Moreover, it uses scientific based research to drive instructions to
ensure that the district is promoting student success. The curriculum team utilized student data to
create standards that demand instruction. Moreover, the curriculum also institutes lesson objectives
and student exercises that scaffold student knowledge to meet the lesson or unit standards. However, I
did notice that the curriculum lacked pacing guides for some subjects. I think pacing guides are critical
for the implantation of an effective curriculum. Pacing guides facilitate alignment of state standards
and national standards. Pacing guides also help teachers and students make the most of their time.
More importantly, pacing guides allow districts to increase student academic performance and lessen
gaps in student learning. In summation, I believe the design and implementation of the curriculum is
consistent with the state and district

Hamlet, By William Shakespeare
During the course of Shakespeare s Hamlet , the character of young Hamlet exemplifies an often
puzzling and ambivalent persona. During the play, Hamlet is often contradicting of himself. By role
playing, or self fashioning, Hamlet is able to balance his virtues in order to stay true to himself. This is
demonstrated by his decisions to act upon something, as well as his inactions to not act upon
something. The obscurity of Hamlet s mannerisms are displayed within two conflicting personas: one
that is perceived as calm and rational; the other displaying utter madness and loss of control. These
conflicting behaviors are revealed within Hamlet s internal struggles to kill those responsible for his
father s murder, or to act responsibly and virtuous, and await further proof of their guilt. Throughout
the play, Hamlet teeters on the brink of insanity induced by his actions, or inactions, but never actually
crosses the threshold of insanity by balancing the virtues of playing a role and self fashioning, with
looking at his own sense of self to rationalize his actions throughout the play.
Clarification of Hamlet s sanity first appears in act one, by his statements and feelings expressed
within his dialogue. Seems madam? Nay, it is. I know not seems (1.2.76). When young Hamlet is
asked about his depressive appearance and demeanor by Gertrude, Hamlet denotes that this is what is
perceived. This relates the idea that Hamlet is only what he appears to be as seen by the other

Stereotypes In African American Society
Throughout the world, society habitually puts every group into multiple categories. Those groups can
vary from gender, to race, to religion, while those categories can fluctuate from what society believes
each group is supposed to act by. This method is often referred to as stereotyping, which is a widely
held label that each particular group follows in society s eyes. Though many groups in society have
stereotypes, the African American race has numerous. Though the way of living for African Americans
have changed throughout time, the stereotypes from the past still haunt us today. Based off of societies
stereotypes of the African American race, commonly known as blacks , each subgroup of this race

Iowa City is a typical medium sized city in a state that is mostly primarily rural. What sets it apart
from most of the other cities in Iowa is that it is a college town. Iowa City has a population of
approximately 71,500 people, it has a median income of about $34k, a median age of 25, over 50% of
the population has a BA of higher, 11% are foreign born, and 15% speak a language other than
American; this is all according to the U.S. Census Bureau. All of these statistics can work together to
create an environment in which Iowa City could be a place where cultural values are negotiated

If what you are willing to pay for food is an indicator of social class, then evaluating the price of food
at each eatery makes it easier to distinguish which social class eats where. Those that frequent
expensive restaurants are people that have more money, and therefore more social clout. Those that
frequent fast food eateries have less social importance because they spent less money on the
acquisition and consumption of food. If this is true then you do not have people of higher social status
eating at a fast food establishment, and people of lower social status do not eat at the more expensive
establishments. But just as in the reading by Davidson, people of lower social status can afford fish
occasionally, and so can people of the lower social status eat at a more expensive restaurant. When it
comes to politics, Iowa City is important and holds some clout. Iowa is first in the nation when it
comes to caucusing for presidential candidates, and this make Iowa City a prime target for political
juxtaposing. Grass root politicking is mostly done with the involvement of food. American politicians
want the constituents to see them as an every man, someone who eats what they eat, and drinks what
they drink, real average everyday people. Because of the diversity of the population in Iowa City,
there is much more available there to appeal to many different sects of the voting population. This
allows the food culture of Iowa City to better reflect the diversity of the American population in
general. According to the U.S. Census the percentage of foreign born Americans in 2010 was 12.9%

the U.S. in that respect. Available cuisine in Iowa City is as diverse as its people. By looking at Iowa

Controlling the Companion Pet Population
There is an alarming amount of stray dogs on the street and the number only increases due to the fact
that these dogs were not fixed. These medical procedures will help control overcrowding in dog
shelters. Since these shelters do not have the space or the funds to care for all of the unwanted dogs
they end up euthanized. All pet owners should be required to spay/neuter their pets unless the owner
applies for breeder rights if the pet is to be breed. Spay/neutering will not only help prevent the
population problems within the shelters but outside as well and it will help prevent these pet from
becoming euthanized.

If spaying and neutering became mandatory it would keep the number of unwanted dogs lowered.
Other countries, like the United Kingdom, have a 63% drop in euthanasia rates after implementing
population control methods (Trends in Stray Dog Numbers). The dogs are the ones that are suffering
from the lack of initiative to make this change. They deserve a good loving forever home without fear
of being sentenced to death at a shelter
Even though euthanizing can have its benefits using it to control the dog population should not be an
option. Euthanasia is not all bad in every instance that it is applied. Health issues in dogs that are
clearly suffering and will die shortly can benefit from being euthanized and put out of their misery.
Many dogs get injured past the point where any surgery can mend and those dogs also benefit from
euthanasia.

The American Civil War Was A Death Filled Four Years
The American Civil War was a death filled four years. Many people died fighting for what they
believed. The north, who won the war, got what they wanted; the south was able to keep their property
with nearly no consequences for their actions. But one group of people who fought for both sides got
nothing for their blood left on the battle field. Both the Union army and the Confederate army
promised the Native Americans who fought for them many things such as land, freedom, and rights
but did either side uphold these agreements with the Native American people? The Native American
people fought hard, and died on both sides of the war to be let down by the American government yet
again.

These southern states known as the Confederate states of America believed in the state s rights and

Indian removal is still imbedded into the Native American people at this time. There was still a lot of
tension between Native s that were pro removal, and those who were against it. For the most part, the
stance an Indian took on removal dictated where they stood on the Civil war. The pro removal side of
Indians sided with the Confederate army, and the Indians against removal such as Chief John Ross

Relationship Between Dating And Relationship Essay
Introduction
For a relationship to survive those involved have to make sacrifices and watch out for any threats to
the relationship. Although there is more than just information on dating and relationship traps to
ensure a successful relationship learning of the many traps to a relationship and making an effort to
avoid them increases the chances of survival of a relationship.
Dating and Relationship Traps
1. Marketing Trap.
This happens when one the partner s feels that they need to make themselves more appealing so as to
attract or to be attractive enough to their desired mates. When one falls into this trap you are afraid
that no one will accept you as you are and insecurity gets in the relationship. Insecurity can lead to
doubts in a relationship, obsession and finally tear the relationship apart.
2. Packaging Trap.
This is when a spouse over emphasizes on the partners attributes, like body, job of the spouse, what
kind of car they drive, looks wealth etc. And this obsession overshadows the true reality of a person.
This trap can lead people into undesired relationships filled with quarrels and incompatibility issues.
3. Scarcity Trap.
Scarcity trap stems from the assumption that there is not enough possible partners so people get into
relationships with whomever is available. This eventually leads to failure in relationships due to the
temptation of settling for less than what one deserves.
4. Compatibility Trap.
The assumption that having fun and getting along

Pro Tobacco Advertising
Although tobacco advertisements are banned, people still consume it. The ban started in 1971 and
since then has become even more strict on the sponsoring and promotion of tobacco brand logos.
Now, all tobacco ads used, dissuade users from consuming. Advertisements in general can be
obnoxious and tiresome, but they are sometimes necessary for the seller to get their point across. Ads
are either trying to get money from the consumer or driving to change a person s mind positively. The
main reasoning for the creation of advertisements is to persuade the viewer or audience through the
evocation of ethos, pathos, and logos, to have a change of mind about the product. The ads I chose are
both similar, but have different goals towards their audience. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

This ad has an emotional appeal to the audience, as the result of both objects is not something people
really look forward to: death. Of course, nobody wants to die, its only human nature. Looking at this
ad, the viewer might start questioning him or herself emotionally, thinking about the loved ones
around them. In the end it will only hurt the people who care for them. A simple yet powerful logical
appeal towards its audience is accomplished ambiguously or dualistically. I think it questions the
viewer or smoker rationally, why they would want a slow and painful death. The viewer can choose to
die quick or slow , either option, you re going to die so you might as well choose the bullet, a fast and
less painful choice. But that is not what it is suggesting, it seems to be getting at the point that death
by either choice is unnecessary and ignorant of the user.
This type of advertisement is selfless in that it seeks to achieve satisfaction from the possibility of
stopping its intended audience from smoking and nothing more. It even asks at the bottom of the
picture if the individual needs help. Following up with a smokeline expresses concern for the person.
In its design, the layout has a depressing background. This gloomy image is possibly representing
what comes along with each deed. A glowing white font captures the viewer s eyes, but is present to
sort of highlight and make it clear that the

The Maoree Culture Of Traditional Maori Culture In The...
The characters in the film Whale Rider choose how they will incorporate traditional Maori culture into
their modern life. Whale Rider is set in a small New Zealand coastal village inhabited by Maoris who
claim descent from Paikea, the Whale Rider. For 1,000 years a male heir of the Chief has become
leader of the tribe. At the beginning of the film, the wife of Porourangi, the Chief s eldest son, dies in
childbirth along with the male twin she was carrying. The surviving child, a girl, is given the name of
Pai, the traditional name given to the male child. Porourangi is grief stricken and departs for Europe,
leaving Pai to be brought up by her grandparents, Koro and Nanny Flowers. Koro loves Pai, but won t
accept her as Chief. He is convinced that the troubles of the tribe are attributable to Pai aspiring to be
leader. He tries unsuccessfully to train the other boys in the tribe for the role. Far out at sea a school of
whales respond to Pai s calls for guidance. They swim to the village but become beached.
Symbolically the tribe will die. Only Pai is willing to make the sacrifice to save her people, and
because of this Koro accepts her leadership. Koro refuses to accept Pai as leader despite her repeatedly
showing herself to be more capable than any of the boys. We see her challenging the old ways, and
undertaking the gruelling demands of traditional warrior practice. It is she who goes into the sea to

Philosophy of Psychology

Freed Hardeman University Philosophy of Psychology
Introduction
As an occupational therapist, I hope to use a number of different psychological theories. The main
perspective I will use is Behavior Psychology. Most of my therapy techniques will come from Skinner
s theory of operant condition. By using Applied Behavioral Analysis (ABA), I can help modify
children s behavior. The second perspective I will use is Neuropsychology. In treating autistic
children, and other people with various disorders, it is important to understand the different brain
chemistry that each has. In most circumstances, a part of the brain is affected that inhibits an aspect of
the child s behavior.
History
Both behavioral psychology and neuropsychology have rich backgrounds. For the purposes of my
philosophy of psychology, I will cover operant condition and Skinner s approach to verbal behavior. I
will also look aspects of neuropsychology such as neuroplasticity and the dimensional systems model.
I will also look at Sensory Integration theory, which combines a number of different perspectives
including behavioral and neuropsychology.
Behavioral Therapy
The father of Behavioral Psychology is Watson. Another iconic psychologist in this aspect is B. F.
Skinner. Skinner s major theory is operant conditioning. Operant behavior is defined as behavior
controlled by its consequences (Staddon Cerutti, 2003). Operant behavior also uses reinforcement

Crushing Poem Analysis
the poem Crushing is a narrative with a central theme of the youthful years of under privileged
juveniles with vivid images of theft, racing, intoxication, and calming ending of a beach vision. The
poem is a wholesome picture that goes from being wild in the beginning to a calming image of a
beach and stars at the end, which is also a technique of the poem that is taking readers on a journey. It
spectacularly builds up images of fancy and elegant partying, to a calming end of evening beach
scene. This could be represented by the core question of the poem that, the youthfulness of someone is
intoxicating when someone gets lost in translation and becomes dazed and confused.
The poet is reminiscing about his glory days of being very intoxicated and rambunctious in the youth,
that are going by too fast. On to the context, lines 1 5 demonstrate the rebelling youth of all young
people. In the lines, they steal cars, cigarettes, and crates of fine french wine. They are rebellious,
taking in all of society s adult vices of smoking, drinking, and wooing women. They mention
borrowing the Mercedes, which really means that they stole or took it without permission. The
bulletproof Mercedes makes them feel as if they are untouchable like a government official. The
youthful people in the poem have a sense that they are invincible, even from the police, which they
describe them as standing beside their cars and wave (Line 10). They think they are being treated like

Causes: Lenovo was number 9 on PC market and had 2.2% market share worldwide and therefore it

market share and wanted to expand. They first tried to diversify into non PC areas but they failed and

o acquiring LG Laptops (option 3.4.) would lead to a small increase, as LG is not one of the big laptop
producers. o expanding in the non PC area via smartphones (option 3.5.) would not do anything for
the current market share, as we would be talking about a different market segment altogether.
It provides quick and extensive access to a large distribution network of retail and corporate
customers, lowering distribution costs (the same goes for option 3.3., which also brings Lenovo
contact with IBM s network) o option 3.2. keeps Lenovo isolated in the home market o option 3.4.

It provides the possibility of brand capitalization, in the sense that Lenovo would take advantage of
the reputation and customer base of IBM and incorporate them through the acquisition, lowering
marketing costs o in the case of a merger, the brand name would be probably shared for the whole
duration of the partnership. o under options 3.4. and 3.5., as said before, LG is not a brand name in IT

The Advantages And Pros And Cons Of A Wireless Body Sensor...
Abstract The growth of population now a day is resulting in immense pressure on healthcare service.
Population residing in remote areas such as villages are devoid of good health check up facility.
Therefore it is utmost necessary that to make it accessible to them. A basic Wireless Body Sensor
Network (WBSN) consisting of sensors that can collect the physiological data of a person is used for
this purpose. The collected data is then transported to the doctors for its analysis, which can be
efficiently done using VANETs. In addition to that, data can be automatically analysed by smart
vehicles to check for emergency situations. In such case any nearby health service can be contacted
and rushed to the patient. An analysis of the various architectures for this purpose is done in this paper

The Effects of Social Isolation in the Invisible Man by...
Social Isolation, a state or process in which persons, groups, or cultures lose or do not have
communication or cooperation with one another, often resulting in open conflict. In H.G Wells 1897
novel The Invisible Man, the main character, Griffin, is socially isolated due to a condition that has
forced him to stay out of the scrutinizing eye of society .As the novel progresses, the effects of social
isolation begin to take form in Griffin s actions and become more pertinent with each event that
occurs. These actions show the effects of social isolation throughout the course of the novel.
The beginning of Griffin s social isolation begins early in his life. Griffin is albino, meaning that he
has little to no pigmentation in his skin, eyes, and hair. This condition makes it exceptionally
challenging for Griffin to be a cohesive member of society, so in order to avoid the eminent rejection
that he believes awaits him if he tries to join society, he chooses to become an introvert. The
expression a fish out of water reminds us that every animal is adapted to a habitat (Pinker 374). Griffin
does not have a habitat to adapt to because he lives outside of society and has no one to help him
adapt. At this point Griffin is able to be diagnosed with a form of social loneliness due to his feelings
of being an outcast (Gelinas 4). After Griffin is isolated from society for a short period of time, his
anger starts to progress into something that even he cannot control. As the novel

Dramatic Play Generally dramatic play has been proven is one of the main activities that can enhance
child emotional development and can be the entertainment for the children.
The game we would like to propose in our syllabus is Live in Your Space . In this dramatic game, the
instructors will give instructions to kids to build their own space such as school, library, post office,
kitchen, grocery or office. The kids will be divided into smaller groups of three or four peoples for
them to work together to build their own space in 30 to 45 minutes period and after that the kids need
to act the roles they have chosen since children actually love to pretend as adults.
There are various toys provided in the childcare that kids can use to build the setting they want. For
example a group of kids wanted to build a classroom setting. They can use everything in their
surrounding for the setting such as books, number or alphabets blocks, some cards and etc. They also
can arrange the chairs and tables in order to make it similar with a classroom by help from teacher.
After the setting, the kids can pretend as teacher teaching in the classroom or as students listening to
the lessons. The teacher can ring a bell when wanted the end the pretend play to make the situation
similar with a real school. Generally in this game, kids need to learn how to work together and tolerate
with each other in order to accomplish the task. They might have different opinions in setting their

Essay about The Dopamine Hypothesis of Schizophrenia
The Dopamine Hypothesis of Schizophrenia
Schizophrenia is a disease that has plagued societies around the world for centuries, although it was
not given its formal name until 1911. It is characterized by the presence of positive and negative
symptoms. Positive symptoms are so named because of the presence of altered behaviors, such as
delusions, hallucinations (usually auditory), extreme emotions, excited motor activity, and incoherent
thoughts and speech. (1,2) In contrast, negative symptoms are described as a lack of behaviors, such
as emotion, speech, social interaction, and action. (1,2) These symptoms are by no means concrete.
Not all schizophrenic patients will exhibit all or even a majority of these symptoms, and there is some

(2) However, there are some problems with this evidense. Amphetamines only mimic the positive
symptoms of schizophrenia. They do not produce any of the negative symptoms. Likewise, anti
psychotic drugs are only affective on the positive symptoms of the disease. There is still some
evidense that schizophrenics do posess higher levels of dopamine, however, these increases are only
found in the striatum of the brain (7). The striatum is a region of the brain that receives its inputs from
and outputs to the cortex. Injury to the striatum results in problems with intiation and control of motor
behavior. (9) Also, there is evidence that the prefrontal cortex produces lower levels of dopamine. (4)
The prefrontal cortex is involved in the organization and coordination of information to and from the
cortex. (7)
The major support and refutation of the dopamine hypothesis has come from the examination of
dopamine receptors in these regions of the brain. There are two main types of dopamine receptors, D1
and D2. However, within the category of D2 receptors, there are three subtypes, D2, D3, and D4. (5)
Through PET scan analysis of dopamine usage in the brain and post mordum molecular analysis of
brain tissue, researcher were able to determine relative levels of dopamine receptors in patients with
schizophrenia compared to non schizophrenics. Overall analysis of dopamine

The Drug Of Drug Abuse
America has been fighting drug abuse for over a century. Four Presidents have waged a War on Drugs
and unfortunately, this war continues to be lost at an alarming magnitude. Drug abusers continue to fill
our courts, hospitals, and prisons. The drug trade causes violent crime that ravages our neighborhoods.
Children of drug abusers are neglected, abused, and even abandoned. The current methods of dealing
with this issue are not working. Our society needs to implement new and effective laws and programs
to address the problem of drug abuse. Drugs first surfaced in the United States in the 1800 s, with the
use of opium during and after the Civil War. Cocaine followed in the 1880 s and the abuse of these
drugs at the end of the 19th century reached epidemic proportions. Morphine was discovered in 1906
and soon became a huge problem as well. Drugs were no longer being viewed as harmless remedies
for aches and pains. The Harrison Narcotics Act, passed in 1914, was the United States first federal
drug policy. The aggressively enforced act restricted the manufacture and sale of marijuana, cocaine,
heroin, and morphine. During this time there was a worldwide movement limiting opium and coca
crops and by World War II, American drug use had become a rare, marginal social problem. During
the 1960s, drugs like marijuana, amphetamines, and psychedelics were developed and a new
generation was exposed to drugs. Marijuana became fashionable on college campuses and users

From what I noticed in this poem, I read it as the man in the poem is not happy about winter and the

When I am done with him, his face will be crenelated. It was a given that the fight promoters would

or power. Iago s jealous of Othello and Cassio because he thinks that both of them slept with his wife,
Emilia. In Iago s first soliloquy at the end of act 1, Iago says that Othello might have slept with his
wife and even though this is a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Iago is a very clever person and he enjoys seeing how idiots make fools of themselves. One of these
idiots is Iago s buddy, Roderigo. Roderigo is a typical wealthy, Venetian aristocrat who is madly in
love with Desdemona and he has given Iago the task of helping him woo her. Iago uses this to his
advantage, even though Iago uses Roderigo to ruin Cassio and Othello, he gets some amusement by
watching Roderigo prance around and go nuts over Desdemona. Iago also finds it funny when
Roderigo wants to go kill himself after he finds out that Desdemona married Othello. There are
multiple times throughout the play where Roderigo should have known that Iago was just using him
for money and some laughs and since Roderigo doesn t pick up on this, Iago can use Roderigo to his
advantage.
Power is probably the most important motive. Iago is very conniving and clever and he can use this to
manipulate people. It is clearly seen that Iago thrives for power because he loves manipulating people
so that they doe exactly what he says. He does this to Roderigo many times, like when Iago tells
Roderigo to give him all of his money and when he convinces Roderigo to kill Cassio. He even
controls Othello to the point that Othello suspects his wife and decides to kill her. Iago s thirst for
power is also seen when Cassio is appointed to be Othello s lieutenant because this was, supposedly,
the basis for his revenge. He really wanted to be lieutenant because it is a

The Life and Contribution to the Development of the British Empire of James Cook
I) Introduction
The purpose of this paper is to describe the life and the contribution to the development of the British
Empire of one of the most important English explorers. It was in the second half of the 18th century
when James Cook, originally a poor farm boy, explored and mapped vast uncharted areas of the
Pacific and the Atlantic Ocean. However, James Cook was not only an explorer. He can also be called
a scientist he managed to introduce new principles into seafaring and cartography.
For better understanding, the paper is divided into five chapters. The first chapter is the introduction,
which throws light on the purpose and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Such a structure of commerce enabled the immense growth of wealth of the country.
An imperial enthusiasm the British found out that they could grow rich from the trade with their
colonies. As a result it led to a constant, unending search for new markets for British products, new
trading centres and eventually, new lands to settle their surplus criminals and poor, unemployed
citizens.
New inventions in navigation these inventions had a profound influence, not only upon Britain, but
even upon much of the rest of the world. John Hadley s invention of the reflecting quadrant made it
possible to determine the latitude at noon or by night. Extremely accurate, it was quickly adopted by
the admiralty (1730). John Harrison s ship chronometer was to revolutionise the world s shipping
(1736). A new method of combating scurvy was found James Lind recommended to use citrus juice
(1747) and finally, John Campbell introduced the new sextant to the Royal Navy (1757). All of these
inventions helped to create Britain s naval supremacy.
A new philosophical approach the 18th century in Western Europe is the beginning of the Age of
Reason, the philosophers and scientists stressed the value of global discovery, of learning more about
the earth and of collecting unusual flora and fauna from around the globe.
Thus Great Britain established (or

Hiv Prevention Is A Preventable Disease
Today, as we must know HIV is still spreading around the world and neither a vaccine nor a cure
exists. The prevention of the disease remains the main key of the strategy to stop the epidemic. The
most common mode of HIV transmission is sexual contact; therefore, HIV prevention is closely linked
to the sexual and reproductive health of men and women. Effective prevention programs include
interventions that promote sex abstinence, delay sexual initiation, maintain a mutually faithful partner,
limit sexual partners, use condoms consistently and correctly, and counsel and test for HIV. The most
effective combination of these interventions depends on the characteristics of groups infected with
HIV. Effective programs also consider the social, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

(Avert, 2017) Comparing national data shows huge differences in efforts to slow the spread of new
infections. Some countries have achieved a 50% or higher reduction in new HIV infections in adults
over the past 10 years, while many have not made much progress. However, others are experiencing
fears of an increase in the number of HIV infections. (Avert, 2017)
(Avert, 2017)
Let take a look at the HIV statistic just in America in the same time. By 2015, 39,513 people are
diagnosed with HIV in the United States. The number of new HIV diagnoses has decreased by 19%
between 2005 and 2014.
Because HIV testing has remained stable or increased in recent years, this decline indicates a real
decline in new infections. . This reduction may be due to HIV prevention efforts. However, progress
has been uneven, and the diagnosis has increased in several groups. (CDC 2016)

Geb s Role In Ancient Egyptian Religion
Who is Geb?
As the God of the earth, Geb was one of the most important of ancient Egypt s gods. According to the
Heliopolis doctrine, he came from a line of important gods. His parents were Shu, the god of air, and
Tefnut, the goddess of moisture, who were in turn the children of Atum. Osiris, Isis, Seth and
Nephthys were the children of Geb and Nut, and together these gods made up the Heliopolitan Ennad.
However, it should be noted that Geb may also be referred to in various literature as Seb, Keb, Kebb
or Gebb. After Atum, the four deities (Shu, Tefnut, Geb, and Nut) established the Cosmos, whereas the
second set of deities (Osiris, Isis, Seth and Nephthys) mediated between humans and the cosmos.
Geb is usually represented in the form of a man who wears either the white crown to which is added
the Atef crown, or a goose. The Goose was his sacred animal and symbol. As the God of earth, the
earth formed his body and was called the house of Geb, just as the air was called the house of ... Show

the hereditary, tribal chief of the gods, and he plays a very important part in the Book of the Dead.
Therefore he is one of the gods who watch the weighing of the heart of the deceased in the Judgment
Hall of Osiris. The righteous who were provided with the necessary words of power were able to make
their escape from the earth but the wicked were held fast by Geb.
Religious texts show that there was no special city or district set apart for the god Geb, but a portion of
the temple estates in Apollinopolis Magna were called the Aat of Geb, and a name of Dendera was the
home of the children of Geb, . The chief seat of the god appears to have been at Heliopolis, where he
and his female counterpart Nut produced the great Egg from which sprang the Sun god under the form
of a phoenix. In ancient Egypt, the egg is a symbol of renewal, and even today, this symbolism
appears in our traditions surrounding

Cons Of Animal Conservationism
Third, as mentioned a few times in this paper, conservationism views animals as natural resources for
the consumption of humans. Consumption meant literally and figuratively, in that animals are valued
for their entertainment value at the zoo for humans to consume . In Constructing Consumables and
Consent , author Cathy B. Glenn discussed the two common and codependent corporate discursives in
factory farms, yet, also used by conservationists like PNM. First, doublespeak , a word of phrase that
deliberately obscures language to hide the harmful truth. Stakeholders, like PNM, are pros at coming
up with doublespeak to conceal the environmental damage they take part it for the continued
extraction of coal. Next, the creation of speaking animals to sell products, like the experience of the
zoo. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Of course, there are real dangers our planet faces of running out of vital resources to sustain the
human population. But, conservation of resources, frames itself in a positive light, and masks the
reality that conservationism is purely for human benefit and does not take into account the animals or
nature. Also, speaking animals, or zoo goers speaking for animals is problematic. For instance, amid
my visit to the zoo, I heard two zoo goers speak to each other about, Why is that Tazmanian Devil just
sleeping and the other replied, speaking for the animal, I am just taking a Saturday afternoon nap .
This is problematic because the animal is seen as happily taking a nap and it is not considered that
perhaps the animal is bored and does not want to be there. As conservationists, PNM would approve
of speaking animals because it distances the zoo goer from the harmful facts behind

Royal Bodies
Royal Bodies
Royal Bodies is a speech by Hilary Mantel, an award winning and bestselling English writer. Hilary
Mantel, born in 1952, is particularly famous for her historical novels. On February 21 2013, at a book
lecture at the British Museum, she held a speech, in which she commented on the British monarchy.
Hilary Mantel starts her speech by telling how she, last summer, was asked to name a famous person
and choose a book to give them. She chose Kate, the Duchess of Cambridge, a jointed doll on which
certain rags are hung . This is a good way to start the speech because Hilary Mantel has now
introduced her real purpose with the speech: to discuss the effect of monarchy.
Hilary tells how she at a book trade event at ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In this quote she indicates that the royal family are like trapped caged animals that the public never
really know, and that that is something perhaps to be regretted. The royal family is, according to
Hilary, a thing that is expensive to conserve, but interesting to look at and that is also the only reason
that they exist.
Today monarchy has become an attraction, which flashes every side of the royal family. Hilary Mantel
believes that we are looking at royalties as if they were figures or dolls, who we can treat as we want
to. We always have a comment to what they are wearing, if they look good or not, what they are doing
right or wrong etc. We are allowing monarchy to treat its persons as entertainment objects.
I m not asking for censorship. I m not asking for pious humbug and smarmy reverence. I m asking us
to back off not be brutes . In this quote Hilary says that we need to stand back, and this is clearly her
goal with her speech. We need to allow the royalties to be humans as well.
Hilary Mantel s speech is tendentious and personal, because only one her own opinion is presented.
Looked at the speech objectively it is weak because of the lack of proof, since she is only arguing with
her own personal opinion.
In the speech there is an illustration of Paul Emsley s portrait of Kate Middleton. She describes it like
this: But in her first

Nationalism In Latin America
Anderson s concept of the imagined community highlights how the Media Luna regional identity as
distinct from the highland is socially constructed. In Anderson s study of the formation of nationalism
in Latin America, he notes how the boundaries of national identity have been re drawn by the creole
elites to encompass non Spanish speaking, indigenous groups. In so doing, that which was Spanish
was made foreign and that which was indigenous was native, even if the creole elite maintained racial
hierarchies. Understanding national identity as malleable and social constructed helps us understand
how the cruceños movement can re shape their identity, drawing on indigenous identity to legitimize
their claim to autonomy. Fabricant and Postero (2013)

The Enlightentment of Age of Reason Sparked Change
The Enlightenment brought new thinking, making people closely examine the world around them,
which sparked change. Also known, as the Age of Reason there was a questioning of authority as
people became enlightened and this caused new thoughts such as liberalism, conservatism, skepticism,
and Francis Bacon s empiricism brought over from the scientific revolution. The Enlightenment was a
maturity of mankind to higher level thinking, not just following the status quo. It was a raise in
education against established traditions and beliefs, which caused a huge shift from the social norms
of society to using reason and logic to disclaim previous ideas. There is a growth of optimism that the
human race will become educated about the social and physical environment, finding new information
through reason and logic to become enlightened. Although there was a focus on logic and reason,
there was also a look towards economics with British enlightened thinker Adam Smith in the Wealth
of Nations. Fighting for public, as well as private interest, maximizing private incomes and the nations
wealth. There was many ways that the scientific revolution impacted the Enlightenment, but the most
important was it caused a social change towards established principles with logic and reason. This
caused the abolition of slavery, changed thought from religious to scientific and paved the way for the
start of women s equality. As philophes became educated they saw a human inequality with slavery.

The revived rivalry has been very physical, the games between the two enemies were very aggressive
and lots of fouls for both teams. The Bulls and Heat met in the 2011 Eastern Conference Finals, with
the Heat winning in 5 games. Then on March 27, 2013 they met again in the eastern conference. The 2
teams were much pumped and wanted to win. The bulls have 3 different uniforms: a white home
uniform, a red road uniform, and a black alternate road uniform. The jerseys the bulls were had a
reason they were them. The design of the white and red sets are nearly same, with the team name
featured on the front over the number, and the all the player s last name over the number on the back
and under the Bulls logo. The shorts had diamond stripes on side of their pants. The red and white
uniforms were basically the same when it was 1966, with minor adjustments from off centered
numbers, drop shadows and side stripes to a cursive Chicago lettering on the away uniforms. The
present red/white uniform design was shown in the 1985 86 season, for the 1st time they used block
lettering for the names on the back of the jerseys. The Bulls logo was added atop the player s name in

The Relationship Between Accounting Responsibility Of Real...
Hence, the negative impacts of earnings management and accusing earnings management as one of the
main reason of last decade financial scandals have forced accounting setters and financial regulators to
provide solutions and initiatives for hindering earnings management. However, most of the attempts
have failed, since earnings managements researchers found that managers still can achieve their
earnings management objectives, through manipulating real activities. So it is more useful to examine
the relationship between accounting responsibility in real earnings management. ???? There are some
reasons for why managers manage earnings. At the basic level, the reasons are related to the
performance of the firm with respect to some benchmark. This benchmark could be the previous
period s performance that shows an improving trend, analyst s expectations or whatever benchmark is
specified in a manager s compensation contract. Missing these benchmarks can be extremely costly
because the relationship between stock price and compensation and earning is very non linear around
the benchmarks. When firms are extremely close to the target, the incentives to take earning just over
the target becoming exceedingly strong. In these cases, the firms will try and use some form of
upwards earnings management to bump up earnings over the target. However, when firms are below
their target, they have an incentive to make things worse for the following two reasons. Firstly, it is

Parents And Parents Essay
The current longitudinal study shows that there is a correlation between physical health and
relationship to parents regardless of gender. However, the results for each hypothesis of this study
showed varying results. Hypothesis #1, which predicted that there will be a positive correlation
between adolescents in good physical health and the quality of the relationship with their parents
regardless of gender, was statistically significant by results of this questionnaire. The results show that
there is a correlation between the relationship (closeness) to parents and general health of adolescents.

This means that the more parents are involved in deciding who their adolescent children spend time
with, the more likely that the adolescent will report having better health. There was also a positive
correlation between the curfew variable and ability to select friends, meaning that, adolescents who
were able to select their own friends were more likely to also be able to choose their own curfew time
by their parents. These results show a significance relating to the hypothesis, there was a positive
correlation between the quality of parenting methods and the general health of the adolescents. This
shows that positive parental disciplinary techniques where parents balance being actively involved in
their adolescent children s activities and habits while maintaining a level of trust in allowing them to
make some decisions on their own may positively affect their children s general health. These findings
are consistent with and relate to a finding by a previous study which found that: adolescents who
perceived that their parents knew their friends, where they went at night, how they spent their money,
what they did with their free time, and where they were most afternoons, were less likely to begin to
use drugs (Steinberg et al., 1994). Hypothesis #3, which predicted that students performing better

Amin Maalouf discusses this, calming the first group as being a vertical heritage and the latter being a horizontal heritage. Though he clearly states that vertical heritage, cultural and religion, are crucial, Maalouf believes that people are more influenced by society; their horizontal heritage. Pompously self assured, Mathews discusses his reasoning to sharing his wisdom collected from his own experience and other major players in Hardball . However after finishing the book, his audacity could be forgiven by the enjoyable nature of his work, the information it provides, and the uncanny resemblance to Benjamin Franklin s writing style. Before and during his presidency, Johnson would go to extreme lengths to learn everything about his opponents and wring every ounce of their weakness, desires, and political agendas to his advantage. Blue Black Boy is a visual work of art created by Carrie Mae Weems in 1990 s; Weems is a very successful female African American artist. Through a close reading of the image, I was able to derive meaning out of the various aspects that work together to create such an eloquent work of art. In its formal aspects, Blue Black Boy has several important ingredients that lead to its overall meaning. To start, the first thing I noticed is the vibrant white shirt the African American boy is wearing; it really stuck out to me and was brought into the foreground of the image. This immediately connected with ideas mentioned earlier in Rankine s book, _______ (Rankine __). The white shirt as with the white background make the subject stand out and a ripe target for scrutiny. Another very intriguing aspect of the image is the words under each of the sequential identical pictures of the boy. Crewmembers can expect a six month flight to the planet, one year of occupation, and a six month travel back. During this period, numerous human factors challenges can complicate, and even ruin the entire mission. This paper will identify human factors challenges the crew will face, describe why they are so dangerous, and finally, identify ways to mitigate these challenges. Not just two or three times a week for 30 minutes. Crewmembers must exercise six times a week for almost three hours at a time using equipment such as the ergometer, treadmill, and the Resistance Exercise Device (RED) ( Use It or Lose It, 2004). Another way to fight the effects of micro gravity is to create an artificial gravity. Creating artificial gravity can be done using one of two techniques, a rotation or acceleration. The entire spacecraft could rotate, or a single section of the spacecraft could do the rotation. This would give the astronauts the opportunity to live or weight train in a non weightless environment (Hsu, 2010). High acceleration and deceleration rates of the spacecraft could also provide a normal gravitational environment ( Space Travel, n.d.). Once the mission leaves the Earth s atmosphere and travels into space, the next challenge awaits. The Earth s atmosphere and magnetic field act as a shield and deter a large portion space radiation. Space radiation comes from our Sun in the form of solar radiation and also comes from outside our solar system in the form of cosmic rays (Gray, 2013). Radiation may be the most dangerous phenomenon a long duration spaceflight could face. Solar flares erupt from the Sun and send millions of tons of charged particles into space at speeds ... For my essay, I am going to look at the attitudes towards women, both from men and other women, and the significant role that that women had in telling the stories in American musical theatre. Showboat was the first musical of its kind. Up to this point, musicals consisted of songs and dances, with often feeble storylines based around the big stars. Showboat had a real story, adapted from a novel, and both the singing and dancing told the story. At the beginning of Showboat, after we have been introduced to the main characters, we hear the main female characters attitude towards men and love. When this fails, her husband has a try. He sings A woman is a sometime thing , this song shows the attitude of the men towards their women in the community, that they are less respected than men. Bess is clearly outside the close knit Catfish Row community. She is a bar girl and drug addict, who is in total contrast to the stereotypical, hard working, religious women of Catfish Row. Crown (Bess partner) kills a gambling partner and leaves Bess in Catfish Row while he runs away from the police. Porgy and Bess become a couple, and we see Bess changing. She starts to dress like the women of Catfish Row and gives money to help bury Clara s husband (who Crown killed). The women s attitude towards her changes and they stop seeing her as a tart and start looking at her as a friend. Bess doesn t have a theme of her own, instead adopting part of the theme of whoever she s with. The loneliness theme that she absorbs is used by Gershwin to show that Bess love can take away Porgy s loneliness. Later this theme adoption is used to link Bess with Sportin life. We are also shown Bess dependence on other people as she doesn t sing a song on her own. Their primary objective was to drive out all foreign influence out of China, which begs the question to what extent were the Boxers successful in their fight against Imperialism? Although the Chinese government was mainly conservative it was still being controlled by the foreign spheres of influence due to the unequal treaties signed to conclude the Opium and Sino Japanese Wars. The Boxers were becoming well known practice, as their continuous rampages and notable incidences linked to them gained the attention of conservative officials at the court, whom of which convinced the Empress Dowager Cixi to view the Boxers as a useful asset for resisting foreign pressure. Cixi had instructed provincial officials to not suppress the Boxers activities. Gaining the full support of the Qing government meant they could fully focus on foreigners from that point on. The Boxer s feat of gaining the support of the Qing government, which was being controlled by the West supports the notion that China managed to drive out a considerable amount of influence. A curriculum is vital to promoting the success of all students because it is the content that is being taught in the school district. The Curricula Assessment Tool (CAT) is designed to assess school curricula based on a set of standards based elements to determine its effectiveness. The evaluation tool assesses curricula on a four point scale (4. effective, 3. good, 2. fair, and 1. ineffective). I found that the Natchez Adams curriculum establishes high expectations for teaching and learning. The curriculum is integrated, relevant, and student centered. Moreover, it uses scientific based research to drive instructions to ensure that the district is promoting student success. The curriculum team utilized student data to create standards that demand instruction. Moreover, the curriculum also institutes lesson objectives and student exercises that scaffold student knowledge to meet the lesson or unit standards. However, I did notice that the curriculum lacked pacing guides for some subjects. I think pacing guides are critical for the implantation of an effective curriculum. Pacing guides facilitate alignment of state standards and national standards. Pacing guides also help teachers and students make the most of their time. More importantly, pacing guides allow districts to increase student academic performance and lessen gaps in student learning. In summation, I believe the design and implementation of the curriculum is consistent with the state and district ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 15. Hamlet, By William Shakespeare During the course of Shakespeare s Hamlet , the character of young Hamlet exemplifies an often puzzling and ambivalent persona. During the play, Hamlet is often contradicting of himself. By role playing, or self fashioning, Hamlet is able to balance his virtues in order to stay true to himself. This is demonstrated by his decisions to act upon something, as well as his inactions to not act upon something. The obscurity of Hamlet s mannerisms are displayed within two conflicting personas: one that is perceived as calm and rational; the other displaying utter madness and loss of control. These conflicting behaviors are revealed within Hamlet s internal struggles to kill those responsible for his father s murder, or to act responsibly and virtuous, and await further proof of their guilt. Throughout the play, Hamlet teeters on the brink of insanity induced by his actions, or inactions, but never actually crosses the threshold of insanity by balancing the virtues of playing a role and self fashioning, with looking at his own sense of self to rationalize his actions throughout the play. Clarification of Hamlet s sanity first appears in act one, by his statements and feelings expressed within his dialogue. Seems madam? Nay, it is. I know not seems (1.2.76). When young Hamlet is asked about his depressive appearance and demeanor by Gertrude, Hamlet denotes that this is what is perceived. Those groups can vary from gender, to race, to religion, while those categories can fluctuate from what society believes each group is supposed to act by. This method is often referred to as stereotyping, which is a widely held label that each particular group follows in society s eyes. Though many groups in society have stereotypes, the African American race has numerous. Though the way of living for African Americans have changed throughout time, the stereotypes from the past still haunt us today. In many situations, woman will live by this stereotype because of her cognitive impression. She believes this is how black women are supposed to make an honest living. For an example, when you are a child you are to believe everything that your parents tell you is correct. They are your primary group and you use them to form initial beliefs. If you see multiple black women filing for welfare and the government is not stopping them, you would continue to the same. No one tells the Welfare Queen better, so she will continue to make the same mistakes. Contrary to that thought, there are black women who are willing to break this stereotype. They do not want to perceived as a woman who lives off the government because they are too lazy to work. These black women have jobs to provide for their children and family. What sets it apart from most of the other cities in Iowa is that it is a college town. If what you are willing to pay for food is an indicator of social class, then evaluating the price of food at each eatery makes it easier to distinguish which social class eats where. Those that frequent expensive restaurants are people that have more money, and therefore more social clout. Those that frequent fast food eateries have less social importance because they spent less money on the acquisition and consumption of food. If this is true then you do not have people of higher social status eating at a fast food establishment, and people of lower social status do not eat at the more expensive establishments. But just as in the reading by Davidson, people of lower social status can afford fish occasionally, and so can people of the lower social status eat at a more expensive restaurant. When it comes to politics, Iowa City is important and holds some clout. Iowa is first in the nation when it comes to caucusing for presidential candidates, and this make Iowa City a prime target for political juxtaposing. Grass root politicking is mostly done with the involvement of food. American politicians want the constituents to see them as an every man, someone who eats what they eat, and drinks what they drink, real average everyday people. Because of the diversity of the population in Iowa City, there is much more available there to appeal to many different sects of the voting population. This allows the food culture of Iowa City to better reflect the diversity of the American population in general. According to the U.S. Census the percentage of foreign born Americans in 2010 was 12.9% and the number of foreign born people in Iowa City is 11%, so Iowa City is a good representation of the U.S. in that respect. Crushing Poem Analysis the poem Crushing is a narrative with a central theme of the youthful years of under privileged juveniles with vivid images of theft, racing, intoxication, and calming ending of a beach vision. The poem is a wholesome picture that goes from being wild in the beginning to a calming image of a beach and stars at the end, which is also a technique of the poem that is taking readers on a journey. It spectacularly builds up images of fancy and elegant partying, to a calming end of evening beach scene. This could be represented by the core question of the poem that, the youthfulness of someone is intoxicating when someone gets lost in translation and becomes dazed and confused. The poet is reminiscing about his glory days of being very intoxicated and rambunctious in the youth, that are going by too fast. They are rebellious, taking in all of society s adult vices of smoking, drinking, and wooing women. Social Isolation, a state or process in which persons, groups, or cultures lose or do not have communication or cooperation with one another, often resulting in open conflict. In H.G Wells 1897 novel The Invisible Man, the main character, Griffin, is socially isolated due to a condition that has forced him to stay out of the scrutinizing eye of society .As the novel progresses, the effects of social isolation begin to take form in Griffin s actions and become more pertinent with each event that occurs. These actions show the effects of social isolation throughout the course of the novel. The beginning of Griffin s social isolation begins early in his life. Griffin is albino, meaning that he has little to no pigmentation in his skin, eyes, and hair. This condition makes it exceptionally challenging for Griffin to be a cohesive member of society, so in order to avoid the eminent rejection that he believes awaits him if he tries to join society, he chooses to become an introvert. Four Presidents have waged a War on Drugs and unfortunately, this war continues to be lost at an alarming magnitude. Drug abusers continue to fill our courts, hospitals, and prisons. The drug trade causes violent crime that ravages our neighborhoods. Children of drug abusers are neglected, abused, and even abandoned. The current methods of dealing with this issue are not working. Our society needs to implement new and effective laws and programs to address the problem of drug abuse. Drugs first surfaced in the United States in the 1800 s, with the use of opium during and after the Civil War. Cocaine followed in the 1880 s and the abuse of these drugs at the end of the 19th century reached epidemic proportions. Morphine was discovered in 1906 and soon became a huge problem as well. Drugs were no longer being viewed as harmless remedies for aches and pains. The Harrison Narcotics Act, passed in 1914, was the United States first federal drug policy. The aggressively enforced act restricted the manufacture and sale of marijuana, cocaine, heroin, and morphine. During this time there was a worldwide movement limiting opium and coca crops and by World War II, American drug use had become a rare, marginal social problem. • 35. Salvador Dali Surrealism From what I noticed in this poem, I read it as the man in the poem is not happy about winter and the snow with cold weather. When the man says Snow on the flowery almond tree I read that as the man saying that the snow is covering up all the good stuff on Earth. With Snow on the snow I read that as more snow is covering up the good things on Earth. The same thing applies to whern he says It is like flowering almond tree under the snow about how the snow is covering up all of the good things in the world. It s too cold this afternoon in the world is saying that that afternoon almost all of the good things in the world are all completely covered in snow and that no one is able to see then and experience them. When the man says But I open the door to my dog and he comes into the warmth this shows him as saving his dog from the cold and allowing his dog to to enter warmth with the rest of humanity. The speaker (persona) for this poem is named Salvador Dali. This poet is what is known as a surrealist. My wife disparages all Americans as if they are undeserving, worthless humans. They continuously tell me to stay taciturn, but I know deep down that I should voice my opinion. That American Rocky is the antithesis of the Russian machine Drago. When I am done with him, his face will be crenelated. It was a given that the fight promoters would always try to embellish a fight, but this fight needed no extra promotion or incentive to come. The whole world would be watching. I have laud Rocky for his story. He came from nothing and now is here with one of the most powerful men in the world. With all of Russia counting on me, and all of America counting on Rocky, I knew the match would be anything but subtle. The fight was given the superfluous name of World War III . When I killed Apollo Creed in the ring, I felt no discern for what I had done. All I could think was how proud I had made my country. Not that I had just murdered a man. As the press promoted the fight more and more, my disdain for all of America grew. Rocky is known for his amazing abilities, but I am afraid this will be the defamation of him. They told me to be an autonomous machine that couldn t lose. My hypocritical trainer, Ivan, accused Rocky of using steroids at one point. The whole time, he had been giving me steroids. Roderigo is a typical wealthy, Venetian aristocrat who is madly in love with Desdemona and he has given Iago the task of helping him woo her. Iago uses this to his advantage, even though Iago uses Roderigo to ruin Cassio and Othello, he gets some amusement by watching Roderigo prance around and go nuts over Desdemona. Iago also finds it funny when Roderigo wants to go kill himself after he finds out that Desdemona married Othello. There are multiple times throughout the play where Roderigo should have known that Iago was just using him for money and some laughs and since Roderigo doesn t pick up on this, Iago can use Roderigo to his advantage. Power is probably the most important motive. Iago is very conniving and clever and he can use this to manipulate people. It is clearly seen that Iago thrives for power because he loves manipulating people so that they doe exactly what he says. He does this to Roderigo many times, like when Iago tells Roderigo to give him all of his money and when he convinces Roderigo to kill Cassio. He even controls Othello to the point that Othello suspects his wife and decides to kill her. Iago s thirst for power is also seen when Cassio is appointed to be Othello s lieutenant because this was, supposedly, the basis for his revenge. He really wanted to be lieutenant because it is a ... Such a structure of commerce enabled the immense growth of wealth of the country. An imperial enthusiasm the British found out that they could grow rich from the trade with their colonies. New inventions in navigation these inventions had a profound influence, not only upon Britain, but even upon much of the rest of the world. John Hadley s invention of the reflecting quadrant made it possible to determine the latitude at noon or by night. Extremely accurate, it was quickly adopted by the admiralty (1730). John Harrison s ship chronometer was to revolutionise the world s shipping (1736). • 42. Geb s Role In Ancient Egyptian Religion Who is Geb? As the God of the earth, Geb was one of the most important of ancient Egypt s gods. According to the Heliopolis doctrine, he came from a line of important gods. His parents were Shu, the god of air, and Tefnut, the goddess of moisture, who were in turn the children of Atum. Osiris, Isis, Seth and Nephthys were the children of Geb and Nut, and together these gods made up the Heliopolitan Ennad. However, it should be noted that Geb may also be referred to in various literature as Seb, Keb, Kebb or Gebb. After Atum, the four deities (Shu, Tefnut, Geb, and Nut) established the Cosmos, whereas the second set of deities (Osiris, Isis, Seth and Nephthys) mediated between humans and the cosmos. Geb is usually represented in the form of a man who wears either the white crown to which is added the Atef crown, or a goose. The Goose was his sacred animal and symbol. Hilary Mantel, born in 1952, is particularly famous for her historical novels. On February 21 2013, at a book lecture at the British Museum, she held a speech, in which she commented on the British monarchy. Hilary Mantel starts her speech by telling how she, last summer, was asked to name a famous person and choose a book to give them. She chose Kate, the Duchess of Cambridge, a jointed doll on which certain rags are hung . The royal family is, according to Hilary, a thing that is expensive to conserve, but interesting to look at and that is also the only reason that they exist. Today monarchy has become an attraction, which flashes every side of the royal family. Hilary Mantel believes that we are looking at royalties as if they were figures or dolls, who we can treat as we want to. We always have a comment to what they are wearing, if they look good or not, what they are doing right or wrong etc. We are allowing monarchy to treat its persons as entertainment objects. I m not asking for censorship. I m not asking for pious humbug and smarmy reverence. I m asking us to back off not be brutes . In this quote Hilary says that we need to stand back, and this is clearly her goal with her speech. We need to allow the royalties to be humans as well. Hilary Mantel s speech is tendentious and personal, because only one her own opinion is presented. Looked at the speech objectively it is weak because of the lack of proof, since she is only arguing with her own personal opinion. In the speech there is an illustration of Paul Emsley s portrait of Kate Middleton. She describes it like this: But in her first ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In Anderson s study of the formation of nationalism in Latin America, he notes how the boundaries of national identity have been re drawn by the creole elites to encompass non Spanish speaking, indigenous groups. In so doing, that which was Spanish was made foreign and that which was indigenous was native, even if the creole elite maintained racial hierarchies. Understanding national identity as malleable and social constructed helps us understand how the cruceños movement can re shape their identity, drawing on indigenous identity to legitimize their claim to autonomy. Also known, as the Age of Reason there was a questioning of authority as people became enlightened and this caused new thoughts such as liberalism, conservatism, skepticism, and Francis Bacon s empiricism brought over from the scientific revolution. The Enlightenment was a maturity of mankind to higher level thinking, not just following the status quo. It was a raise in education against established traditions and beliefs, which caused a huge shift from the social norms of society to using reason and logic to disclaim previous ideas. There is a growth of optimism that the human race will become educated about the social and physical environment, finding new information through reason and logic to become enlightened. Hence, the negative impacts of earnings management and accusing earnings management as one of the main reason of last decade financial scandals have forced accounting setters and financial regulators to provide solutions and initiatives for hindering earnings management. However, most of the attempts have failed, since earnings managements researchers found that managers still can achieve their earnings management objectives, through manipulating real activities. So it is more useful to examine the relationship between accounting responsibility in real earnings management. ???? There are some reasons for why managers manage earnings. At the basic level, the reasons are related to the performance of the firm with respect to some benchmark. This benchmark could be the previous period s performance that shows an improving trend, analyst s expectations or whatever benchmark is specified in a manager s compensation contract. Missing these benchmarks can be extremely costly because the relationship between stock price and compensation and earning is very non linear around the benchmarks. When firms are extremely close to the target, the incentives to take earning just over the target becoming exceedingly strong. In these cases, the firms will try and use some form of upwards earnings management to bump up earnings over the target.
