A Comparison Of Olympia Manet And A Dolce And Gabbana...
Painting is the art of creating pictures by applying colors to a surface. Paintings can capture events;
they record a creativity of a person, place or object. However paintings can also tell a story in itself, it
can be a decorative item in a billion dollar mansion. Paintings can express emotions and ideas, or
simply be enjoyed for their beauty. Both The Olympia Manet painting and a Dolce and Gabbana
perfume advertisement, both represent its inner beauty. In both the pictures, the model is being their
own selves and feeling the freedom. Although both the pictures have nude models, they have different
purposes. According to Edouard Manet , These painting was first displayed in Paris in 1865. It is an
oil painting. The painting shows ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Her expressions are fearless and natural without any interruption of negative thoughts. She lays
comfortably on the bed and has a light smile on her face. In this painting, I feel that the artist is mainly
focusing on Olympia. He shows the simplified forms of the face, the simplified forms of the neck and
then the hair which is perfectly brushed and tied up with a flower and the body which is seamlessly
lying on the Oriental shawl which is off white and has a thin border of textile flowers. I believe that
the artist spends a lot of time on the figure of Olympia. The finishing of the painting is making it
perfect and it is a really different quality that results from that kind of brushy sense of spontaneity. The
shades that the artist has used on the body of Olympia create a sense of three dimensional. On the
other hand, the focal point of the painting is obviously Olympia. There is a slickness of the brightness
to the body of Olympia, whereas the lady behind Laure has a dark and rough texture. The colors which
the artist has used in the painting are earth tones and there is a light and smooth contrast of dark and
bright. The extra contrast of dark and light color of the painting divides the canvas into these zones of
light and dark. The dark wall in the painting shows the illusion of depth. The level of details and the
darkness of the color at the back shows the depth of the painting. The orchid in her hair, her gold color

Watching Tv Makes You Smarter Analysis
Watching T.V. Makes You Smarter by Steven Johnson Watching TV, has a strong possibility to make
you smarter depending on what you are watching and if you are actually paying attention to the plot.
Steven is trying to show everyone that watching TV play a major part in our lives today and the
benefits is that it makes you smarter. When you are watch interesting intelligence brain stimulating
shows like 24, The West Wing, and ER. He argues, that these shows combine the complicated plot
threads of soap opera with realistic characters and important social issues of night time drama (416).

The History of Metallica Essay
The History of Metallica
As the nineteen seventies came to a close so did many of the musical styles of that decade. While
some faced what seemed to be extinction others went through a sort of evolutionary process. The
bands that were at the top of the heavy metal ladder during this time were such acts as Motorhead,
Iron Maiden, and Tygers of Pan Tang. These groups would be just some of what the new crop of
heavy metal bands would consider inspirational. This style, which is typically referred to as The New
Wave of British Heavy Metal, would fuel and empower many acts to stardom. (Marshall 3) At around
this time, almost halfway across the world, Lars Ulrich got his first drum set in his home in
Copenhagen, Denmark. He was ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
After graduation James moved back to Downey and was offered a place to live by his friend Ron
McGovney. Ron s mother owned several houses, and the vacant one James would be moving into was
doubled as a rehearsal space since Ron was learning how to play the bass guitar. (Doughton 15 16) As
nineteen eighty one rolled around both James and Lars were looking for musicians that shared the
same taste in music they each had. Lars decided to place an advertisement in a South California paper
called The Recycler. The only other ad that came close was James and so the two decided to meet.
Their first practice together was anything but smooth, considering the fact that Lars was still learning
and could not even keep his drum set upright. (Krgin 51) Even though Lars was clearly unprepared to
make a career out of music he had made some connections. He befriended a man named Brian Slagel,
who was in the process of forming his own record company named Metal Blade Records. Brian was in
the middle of doing a compilation project where his goal was to expose up and coming bands to the
general public. He pretty much guaranteed Lars a spot on his project if Lars could form a band. Lars
got the information back to James and so they decided to give it a try. James, Lars, Ron, and a friend,
guitarist Lloyd Grant went into a recording studio and recorded what would be Metallica s first song,
Hit The Lights. Slagel was clearly impressed and did not hesitate to place

Brazil World Trade Essay
Brazil World Trade
From the 1500 s to the 1930 s the Brazilian economy relied on the production of primary products for
exports. For three centuries Brazil s economy was heavily curbed because since Portugal discovered
Brazil, they subjected it s economy to an imperial mercantile policy or a strictly enforced colonial
pact. Even though Brazil received its independence in 1822, Portugal s phase of decisions left a
lasting, powerful imprint on Brazil s economy and society. In the late eighteenth century, when wage
labor was adopted and slavery was eliminated considerable changes finally began to occur. Only
starting in the 1930 s were the first steps taken to convert key structural changes by changing Brazil

By the early 1990s, Brazil was producing about 1 million motor vehicles annually and about 32,000
units of motor driven farming machines. It also was consistently producing 1.8 million tons of
fertilizers, 4.7 million tons of cardboard and paper, 20 million tons of steel, 26 million tons of cement,
3.5 million television sets, and 3 million refrigerators. In addition, about 70 million cubic meters of
petroleum were being developed yearly into fuels, lubricants, propane gas, and a wide range of
petrochemicals. Furthermore, Brazil contains 161,500 kilometers of paved roads and more than 63
million megawatts of installed electric power capacity.
Despite the respectable figures, the economy is not considered developed. Although the economic
changes since 1947 increased the countries per capita income above US$2,000 in 1980, per capita
income in 1995 was still only US$4,630. Structural change and growth have not distorted drastically
Brazil s awfully unequal distribution of opportunity, wealth and income. Even with striking
increments in economic growth and output, the number of poor has increased sharply. The rural area
of Brazil s Northeast Region, or in the country s large cities or metropolitan areas is where the greatest
concentration of the poor reside. The mission of fixing the country s development pattern has only
been complicated by the political and economic troubles of

Larynx The larynx also known as the voice box is a part of the respiratory system that s in charge of
holding the vocal cords in their place. This part of the body is important and responsible for the
production of speech and for the body to inhale and exhale. This part is mainly composed of muscles
and cartilages put together by tissues. It is located between the pharynx and the trachea forming part
of the windpipe that allows the body to receive oxygen. It also prevents the body from choking, and
makes eating possible by using the epiglottis that drops the larynx aside. Without this part of the body

Amelie
The culture and history of France have been highly influential among filmmakers and have affected
the construction of a variety of films. One such film is, Jean Pierre Jeunet s highly successful film
Amelie (2001). The French believe that the success of a film isn t measured by the money it makes,
but by the number of people who watch it. They believe that everything cultural must be protected
from the domination of the markets, a concept known as L exception Culturelle (The French Cultural
Exception) (Wikipedia, 2011). Amelie, is the picture perfect example of this concept, as it perfectly
exhibits the epitome of French culture; portraying France as The City of Love , full of wonder, where
dreams come true. Amelie is a beautiful film ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This has been the basis for many French filmmakers, as this is the type of France audience finds most
pleasurable to watch. Jeunet has presented to his viewers a stereotypical view of France. Jeunet chose
to set Amelie in Montmarte because it deisplays stereotypical qualities of a French wonderland, as
well as being aesthetically pleasing. Included in the shots are many stone buildings, clean streets, and
beautiful colours, all of which have been cautiously selected, adding to the director s aspiration of
creating a French wonderland. We worked on everything: moving cars, removing signals, graffiti s...
(Jeunet, JP, 2001). It can be seen that the narrative, characters and underlying message of Amelie are
all incredibly positive, and Jeunet has clearly found inspiration from Paris being the city of love, as
well as memories from his own life. I had in mind a box full of tiny happy events and stories. I wanted
to use them to make audience feel happy. (Jeunet, JP, 2001) The textual features used in the film make
it evident that the construction of the film has been influenced by French culture. A variety of different
techniques have been used by Jeunet to give the film a feeling of fairytale and fantasy, emphasising
innocence. Jeunet has used extremely saturated colours to give the film a fantasy and dreamlike
feeling, the colours used to emphasise this are red and

Examination
There is a hurdle requirement in this unit. The learning outcomes in this unit require students to
demonstrate in the final examination comprehensive understanding of the topics covered in the unit.
This is demonstrated by the requirement that the student must attain a mark of at least 45% in the final
examination.
A student s final mark is normally the sum of the marks obtained in all of the assessment tasks in the
unit. However, when a student fails the unit solely because of failure to satisfy the hurdle requirement,
a mark of 48 will be returned for the unit.

Total Quality Management ( Tqm )
Total Quality Management (TQM) is a systematic approach that organizations take in order to
implement constant organizational improvements. There are 8 essential points that help an
organization achieve it TQM goals: Training, executive management, Customer Focus, Decision
Making, Methodology Tools, Continuous Improvements, Company Culture and Employee
Involvement. It is important for any modern organization to understand the importance of TQM as
consumers demand better products and services. TQM can differentiate an organization and can give it
a competitive advantage.
A key author in the study of TQM Dr W. Edwards Deming derived 14 points for management
philosophy for management. Deming was influential in Japan when companies like Toyota, Sony and
Fuji adopted his techniques. This led to a rise in demand for Japanese products that represent what
TQM is all about.
Innocent Drinks was founded in 1999 and since then has grown to command 75% of the UK smoothie
market. Organizations that grow rapidly can experience a loss in the quality of its offer as the focus
moves more towards profits and reach and loses its focus on quality. Innocent Drinks is one company

Catherine A. Lutz
Yes, it s only Reservation Blues but I like it: On the Connection between Christian and Native
Religions
One of the most interesting aspects of the anthropological study of Catherine A. Lutz, entitled
Unnatural Emotions, is that the author applies the same sort of intense self examination to her own
project as an anthropologist amongst the Ifaluk as she does to the Ifaluk themselves. Every individual
at some point in his or her own life has been confronted with the surprise, after all, that someone
seems exactly like me. Or, conversely, one is shocked how another human animal, possessing roughly
the same physical attributes of one s genus and species as one s self, could behave in such a
horrible/wonderful fashion, totally unlike ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
But beyond this initial emotional connection, the reader s sense of strangeness and estrangement of the
community is again reborn by the tone of the narrative and the detailed though magical realist
evocation of Native, Western reservation life. The seamless blend of Native American folklore and
Catholicism is one of the oddest aspects of the novel to someone personally uninitiated and unfamiliar
with Native religions, except on a superficial level. For instance, one of the novel s backup vocalists
Checkers Warm Water develops a relationship with the reservation priest. It is difficult, once one
accepts the level of oppression experienced by these Native American individuals, to fully understand
why Christianity, the religion of Caucasians, would have any draw at all. Why doesn t Checkers
simply love her own Native religion and her own Native people through the context of that tradition?
Why a priest?
The only answer is perhaps found in the idea that many of the Indian characters seek, through rock
and roll and through Catholicism as well, the sort of individualistic _expression

The World The War Made By President Lincoln
1. The World the War Made
a. Why does Foner say that the Emancipation Proclamation transformed a war of armies into a conflict
of societies (3)? REQUIRED
i. The Emancipation Proclamation issued by President Lincoln declared that all people held as slaves
within the rebel states, are now and forever free. This quote is especially important because it
demonstrates the effects on society after the Proclamation was signed. Because of these effects, the
focus turned from war into the societal problems that this Proclamation brought about. The
Emancipation was a turning point in national policy and in the character of war. Lincoln knew that the
residents of the border states would never support abolition as a war aim, therefore he did ... Show

Because Johnson was military governor over Tennessee, he could use Johnson on the ballot to gain the
traction within the occupied southern states. Lincoln and Johnson could work towards a smoother

b. What does Foner mean when he says that there was a broader question suggested by the end of
slavery: Should the freedmen be viewed as ready to take their place as citizens and participants in the
competitive marketplace, or did their unique historical experience oblige the federal government to
take special action in their behalf? (31) How did creation of the Freedmen s Bureau suggest one
answer to this question? REQUIRED
i. The creation of the Freedmen s Bureau suggests a great deal about the South during the
Reconstruction era of the United States. The Bureau was created to help emancipated slaves and
refugees have some kind of access to land. Along with access to land, the Bureau itself was
empowered to distributes clothing, food, and fuel to those who have become free men. In my opinion,
I believe the creation of the Freedmen s Bureau answered the question of citizenship in the sense that
freedmen should be considered citizens right off the bat. Back then, owning property was a huge part
of citizenship. By providing help with access to land, freedmen had the chance to become an equal
citizen.

Rhetorical Analysis – Other Voices, Other Rooms
In this essay, Other Voices, Other Rooms , Professor Gerald Graff offers that education at a university
could be exciting and rewarding for students. However, it applies to those who have developed the
skills at summarizing, weighing arguments and synthesizing conflicting points. Unfortunately, not all
students possess these skills and as they start getting confused they will care more about appeasing the
professor in order to obtain good grades. In return, they will give their professors whatever they want
even though it seems contradictory to their beliefs (339). Graff believes that not all college students
possess the skills necessary to be successful and that professors are only making the issue worse by
teaching in a vacuum. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Graff says that contrast is fundamental to learning and in order to fully grasp the concept, and the
subject needs to be understood in relation to other ideas. In his second example, in attempting to
strengthen his argument, Graff uses an academic reference, The Structure of Scientific Revolutions by
Thomas S. Kuhn. Kuhn says,
Both the literati and the scientist have remained largely walled up within their clashing assumptions
about objectivity, the smugness of which might have been punctured had these parties been forced to
argue with each other in their teaching (341). Even though Graff and Kuhn share the same thoughts,
Kuhn s reference does not provide any evidence to support his claims. He then introduces Gregory
Colomb, which his reference again doesn t add credibility; it detracts from the essay because readers
have to read the text several times just to get through this part of the writing. Graff says, Imagine
trying to write and academic paper when you send that almost anything you say can be used against
you and that the intellectual moves that got you an A in existentialist philosophy may get you a C
minus and a dirty look in Skinnerian behaviorism (342) . He goes on to say, When students fail to

Essay on The Implications of Technology in the Movie Her
About nine years ago I discovered a book called The Age of Spiritual Machines by a man named Ray
Kurzweil that demanded my immediate interest. I was captivated by his view of the future of
technology astoundingly positive and bright compared to most peoples negative or dystopian outlook
when it comes to the dangers of a society increasingly reliant on machines and technology. I recently
had the privilege of watching Spike Jonze s 2013 movie her. While focusing on the personal aspect of
a man falling in love with an artificial intelligence in a near future Los Angeles, I couldn t help but be

Spike Jonze s recent movie her takes place in a future LA, but not one that you would expect, having
most popular visions of the future being dark and dystopian. The streets are clean and the people are
happy. Everything is basked in a pastel like glow, feeling nostalgically retro. Technology is used to
their advantage for convenience, but has not overtaken their lives and created a society of anti social
recluses. Jonze s vision of the future is decidedly positive and a refreshing take on what humanity can
do if they make the right choices. Enter Theodore, the protagonist who has separated from his wife in
the past year. He is a depressed, hopeful romantic clinging onto the thought that his wife will change
her mind and come back to him, evident in his reluctance to sign his divorce papers. While walking
down the street one day he notices an advertisement for a new operating system named OS1, touted as
being the first artificially intelligent operating system. Throughout the rest of the movie, he grows
alongside Samantha (which is what the OS decided to name herself). She begins to find herself and
develop wants and needs. In addition to helping him in his work and with de cluttering his personal
life, she begins to evolve into her own person with her own idiosyncrasies. Kurzweil talks heavily on
the introduction of artificial

In addition to early exploration there is a lot of history in the nature of Florida. On Juan Ponce de

Reformation in the Church 2002
My Reformation for the Church in 2002
By Sally Smith
There are several problems in the church that I can see right now. The biggest problem I see is that
most Christians have made being a Christian a religious act. You have to do this and you can t do that
and if you don t you will go to hell. We have made being a Christian long and labor some. Few church
members understand the concept of grace. They have forgotten that Jesus just wants be our friend.
That being a Christian is not following a bunch of rules but having a relationship with Jesus. The
second problem I see is that most seminaries don t and refuse to ordain women and very few churches
have ordained women elders and deacons. Most churches have started doing ... Show more content on

Whoever serves should do it with the strength that God has given him, so that God will be praised
through Jesus Christ. All glory and power and dominion belong to God both now and forever. Amen.
Another problem I see is music. Throughout history, every time there was an outbreak of new music
an instrument was banded. Right now, most churches have banded guitars and drums. Most churches
also still sing long winded and mournful songs. Churches should sing new songs that are happy and
joyful. They should have well behaved drummer and guitar player. The fourth problem is in the
worship service. Most church services are predictable, long and boring with no variety. The worship
service should be thoughtful, yes even exciting and full of variety. A problem related to the one above
is communion. It has become boring, long, predicable and not meaningful. Most people have no clue
what the symbolism of communion is. Every communion should be different and meaningful. The
next problem I see is the Sabbath. My church follows the letter of the law on this subject but most
chuches don t even do that. The Sabbath should be a day that you look foreward to in spending time
with God. We seem to do whatever we want on the Sabbath. Or we make mindless rules like the
pharisees did; don t do this, do that. We have forgotton the true meaning of the Sabbath. The last
problem is that the church members rarely fellowship together anymore. In

extremely difficult to find the perpetrators of terror. Fighting this form of terrorism is so challenging
that the U.S. Justice Department is considering legal changes to combat what it sees as a rising threat
from domestic anti government extremists, (Harte, 2016). Over the past two years, 42 people have
been charged with plotting attacks on America in the name of the Islamic state or anti government
fervor. All of these individuals will not face a life sentence, and will be let free in a couple of decades
(Harte, 2016). With the little reform that happens in prison, these people will one day be out of prison,
most likely with the same radical passion. Efforts are being made to make deradicalization facilities
rather than let the convicted 42 go back into society with plenty of rage (Harte, 2016). The fight
against radicalization has largely turned towards targeting the communities where they begin. Many

World War I And Its Effects On America
At the time the U.S. entered into World War, it had already been raging for some time. Between the
assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand during the tension between Austria Hungary and Russia
for the sake of dominance, the increasing competition from Japan for Chinese trade, and the
increasingly offensive tactics of Germany concerning the U.S., the American population began to
contemplate whether or not America should get involved, a topic that is still debated to this day. World
War I and its effects were perceived as both good and bad by different people before, during, and after
the war, interventionists saying it would be beneficial for patriotic and social aspects of America, and
isolationists saying it would be harmful due to a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Another event that bolsters the fact that Americans strongly believed in the power and necessity of
democracy during this time was the Red Scare. This was a short period in which, due to the popping
up of communist ideals in European countries, Americans feared and defended against the infiltration
of communism into the United States, seeking to maintain democracy. The combination of these
beliefs and events show that America was heavily invested in its democratic ideals and wanted to
spread them, encouraging them to enter the war for this cause. Another reason why Americans wanted
to enter the war was due to the fact that Germany was becoming increasingly aggressive toward the
U.S. The sinking of the Lusitania and the interception of the Zimmermann Telegram, a communication
between Germany and Mexico where Germany asked Mexico to attack the U.S. to distract them in
exchange for land, both played a part in rallying support for entrance into the war. This pro war
sentiment was also expressed after the war, as is clearly evidenced by the support for the Treaty of
Versailles, which included the rejected proposal for the League of Nations, among some people. Some
people, such as Herbert Hoover, argue that the League of Nations is crucial to the economic recovery
of Europe from the war and should be ratified for that reason (Doc 3). He sent this in a letter to
Woodrow Wilson a strong advocate for the League of Nations and the man who

Ethanol s Environmental, Economic, And Social Impacts
In a time of energy crisis and a subsequent search for a renewable replacement for crude oil, biofuels
have arisen as a source of hope. Currently, the largest source of biofuels in the United States is corn
based ethanol. The large scale of corn ethanol production and the potential promise of finding a
domestic, reliable source of energy, requires the fuel s viability as a replacement for crude oil to be
evaluated. However, there is debate surrounding corn based ethanol s environmental, economic, and
social impacts. The scientists and governments who support the development of biofuels claim that it
will not only provide a new and sustainable source of energy but also that it will reduce greenhouse
gas emissions and is therefore better for the environment. However, although corn based ethanol
continues to harbor support from the United States government, environmentalists argue that ethanol
is not substantially better for the environment, especially when the effects of its production are taken
into account. Also, while some larger farms profit from ethanol production, it places economic stress
upon smaller farms and the agricultural industry and leads to higher food prices that are a great
detriment to those living at the level of subsistence. Therefore, in order to produce energy efficient,
environmentally friendly fuel, the United States must work towards developing cellulosic biofuels and
those produced by microbes as they have fewer consequences than corn based

Gq Magazine Stereotypes
When reading magazines, a consumer will come across multiple products that are targeted for both
men and women. Vogue is a magazine for women filled with high end fashion, beauty products, and
topics that are currently trending in society at the time. GQ targets mainly men and is filled with the
style of men and products they might be into which could relate to fashion, hygiene, food, or
technology. Women could look in the GQ magazine and men could take a look in the Vogue magazine,
not necessarily for themselves but maybe they are interested in purchasing a product that a person
opposite of their gender would want. Both these magazines advertise high end products and use thin or
fit models to advertise the products which contributes to society s views on body image and economic
status. Furthermore, both these magazines portray the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Of course, many of these stereotypes have changed throughout the years which is why both magazines
are not really much different. Before, the women were expected to cook. They were the ones who ran
the household which is why many of the magazines for women had incorporated various recipes. Now
looking at both the Vogue and GQ magazine, it is noticeable that the stereotype is leaving the minds of
many people. The fact that were more advertisements on food in the GQ magazine than the Vogue
magazine proves that society has been improving. The Vogue magazine features Gigi Hadid and her
boyfriend Zayn Malik. They go through each other s closets. Hadid has clothing items that Malik
would be interested in wearing. Malik has clothing items that Hadid would want to wear. Clothing has
become much more universal now, to the point that couples can chop each other s closets. Both
magazines feature many of the same brands like Gucci. Gucci is a high end brand with clothing for
both men and women. There were not only Forever 21 advertisements for women and Abercrombie
and Fitch advertisements for

A Short Note On Pricing And Non Pricing Strategies
A. Explain what type of market structure is presented in the movie. Explain the types of strategies Joe
Fox and Kathleen Kelly use to compete and maintain market power. Differentiate between pricing and
non pricing strategies (use Chapter 7 in Stengel s textbook). You can expand and talk about potential
strategies in the bookselling business even if they were not explicitly addressed in the movie.
All companies need to be competitive in order to survive. Not only do they have to come up with a
competitive plan that will attract new customers but also to keep current customers. Just like the
movie You ve Got Mail with Tom Hanks (Joe Fox) and Meg Ryan as Kathleen Kelly. They each have
their own bookstore located near each other in New York.
There are four market structures and they are described in the table below:

Examples Of Mass Destruction In Bowling For Columbine
In the movie, Bowling for Columbine, Michael Moore asks the manager at a missel factory if there is
any difference between the weapons of mass destruction that they build at the factory and the weapons
used for mass destruction like in Columbine. The manager says there is no correlation between the
two, but are they really that different? Both weapons of mass destruction are the same in definition,
message, and effect/damage. There is no difference between manufactured weapon of destruction and
a school shooting. What technically makes something a weapon of mass destruction? The definition of

The I Chose For My Close Reading Assignment Comes From...
The pericope I chose for my close reading assignment comes from Revelation chapter 22 verses 1 6.
When reading this pericope it quickly obvious the genre is apocalyptic. In the few short verses there is
evidence of an apocalyptic genre such as the means of revelation. Verse 5 says, Then the angel showed
me the river of the water of life, as clear as crystal. This pericope is apocalyptic because verse 1 is just
one example of the means of revelation. The genre is also apocalyptic because it has examples of
determinism. The restoration of the New Jerusalem is history moving forward towards a conclusion.
The last evidence of this pericope being apocalyptic literature is the division of history into the Old
and New Ages. The entire pericope is about the coming of the New Jerusalem, which is brining the
old age to a close. Trying to find the boundaries of the pericope it was slightly difficult, especially
when excluding chapter numbers from making the decision. Both chapter 21 and 22 talk about the
restoration God will do, including the New Jerusalem and heaven. If chapter 22 is depicting the
Garden of Eden will the garden be inside of the New Jerusalem? The start of this pericope begins in
verse 1 in chapter 22 because of the slight shift that takes place. The shift is in chapter 21 the
restoration was clear that it was the New Jerusalem. Would John, the author, chunk the pericope as
both chapter 21 and chapter 22:1 5? While the chosen pericope starts talking about the

Abstract:
In the recent time, there will be an increasing need to provide application platforms such as internet
deployment for areas without infrastructure, wireless video streaming between moving objects, data
exchange between office equipment etc. These applications can be solved with the help of wireless ad
hoc networks that can be realized e.g., with Wi Fi protocols. The question arises, what theoretical
throughput different wireless standards can achieve, and how much the throughput will decrease when
data has to be transferred over several hops. This is a technology that enables un tethered wireless
networking environments where there is no wired or cellular infrastructure. Wireless Ad hoc Networks
since then is a fast developing research area with a vast spectrum of applications. Wireless sensor
network systems enable the reliable monitoring of a variety of environments for both civil and military
applications
This paper provides an overview of wireless technologies which can be used in ad hoc scenarios, their
limitations and applications involved in this mechanism.

Texting Shortcuts No Threat For Children s Developing...
Texting shortcuts no threat to children s developing language skills, study finds This article from The
Mercury investigates a study conducted in collaboration with researchers in England and Tasmania.
The study examines the relationship between the use of texting language and language skills in young
students. There has been a general consensus that the overuse of electronic devices must impair the
language ability. However the research found no negative relationship between formal writing skills
and the use of textisms . Furthermore the study suggests that texting can actually have a positive
effect. The article suggests that the reason this study reached conclusions that differ from previous
studies was that this was the first time students were followed up on their formal test results a year
later . Topic 1: Research methods The procedure of the study was comprised of three components.
Firstly, participants were asked to complete a questionnaire in order to collect data about the
participant s texting habits and their demographic information (De Jonge Kemp, 2012). Next
participants were instructed to translate Standard English sentences from two lists into texting
language; one list was typed into their phone and the other was written on paper (De Jonge Kemp,
2012). Finally the participants were instructed to complete a literacy test in order to collect data on
their language, reading and spelling skills (De Jonge Kemp, 2012). A general trend showed that

Causes And Treatment Of Lymphatic Filariasis
Lymphatic filariasis related to Wuchereria bancrofti INTRODUCITON
Seventeen distinct diseases run rampant through developing countries, known as the neglected tropical
diseases. They infect an average of 2.7 billion people world wide, but mainly infect those living in
poverty stricken countries. These diseases can lead to life long disabilities, disfigurement, and
promote poverty. Most of the infected countries live on an average of two U.S. dollars a day with no
access to healthcare, making some of the relatively cheap drug therapies unattainable. Even though the
neglected tropical diseases infect over two billion people and cause an average of five hundred
thousand deaths a year respectively, research and awareness for these diseases are virtually
nonexistent. Since these diseases are not found in first world countries with adequate health care,
research and funding is not seen as a priority.
The neglected tropical diseases are caused by different pathogens. Eight are caused by Helminths,
three by protozoa, two by viruses, and the remaining four diseases are caused by bacteria. The most
common of the seventeen diseases include: ascariasis, trichuriasis, hookworm infection,
schistosmoiasis, trachoma, onchocerciasis, and lymphatic filariasis.
Lymphatic filariasis, also known as elephantiasis, infects over a hundred and twenty million people a
year, with forty million left disfigured and incapacitated, and 1.3 billion at risk of infection. With a

Question 1 of 3 (GAAP): Does the release of the $105 million LOL valuation allowance benefit the
tax provision or is the adjustment considered an adjustment to acquired goodwill when applying the
acquisition method of accounting? * In some business combinations, the acquirer has cumulative
losses that caused the acquirer to conclude that a valuation allowance was required on its deferred tax
assets (including net operating losses) immediately prior to the acquisition, and the deferred tax
liabilities assumed in the business combination are available to offset the reversal of the acquirer s pre
existing deferred tax assets. * As a result of the business combination, the acquiring company
determines their pre existing deferred tax assets are more likely than not to be realized by the
combined entity and the valuation allowance should be reduced or eliminated. * Under ASC 805 740,
a change in an acquirer s valuation allowance for a deferred tax asset that results from a change in the
acquirer s circumstances caused by a business combination... * should be accounted for as an event
separate from the business combination. * Conclusion: Changes in an acquirer s valuation allowances
that stem from a business combination should be recognized as an element of the acquirer s deferred
income tax expense (benefit) in the reporting period that includes the business combination.

Creatine Literature Review
Literature Review: Creatine Supplementation
Introduction
Creatine is a natural substance that occurs in the body, it is also a supplement that has been tested by
numerus athletes over the years to see whether it has a positive effect on performance. However, there
is anecdotal evidence that suggests creatine supplementation may be the cause of negative side effects
such as dehydration, the increase of muscle cramping and an increase in blood pressure. One way the
supplementation of creatine can improve performance is by aiding the resynthesise ATP (Adenosine
Triphosphate) stores within the body in order to produce energy at a quicker rate therefore the most
common athletes to take creatine are high intensity power athletes who are repeated actions multiple
times. Such as those doing long distance events such as cycling, swimming and running, it may also
be used as a way of recovery for sprinters. A study carried out by Kreider R.B et al. (1998) concluded
that there were increases in the performance of isotonic lifting and sprinting during agility after taking
creatine supplements. Although creatine has been believed to help recovery, research undertaken by
Stroud et al. (1994), would suggest that there was no difference in the recovery periods. This review of
literature will examine as to whether creatine should be recommended to athletes based on current
research.

Then in 1989, Sega came out with the Sega Genesis, and Nintendo responded with the Super Nintendo
Entertainment System. Next came the Sega Saturn, and the Sony PlayStation in 1994 and 1995. Then
they came out with the Nintendo 64, in 1996, which sold more than 1.5 million units in just 3 months.
By the end of this era, Sony had become a leader in the video game market, while Sega had fallen
behind and was not doing very well. In 1998 Sega released the Dreamcast, which was ahead of its
time, and probably Sega s best console; however, it was not very popular and failed to save the
company, which withdrew from the console business to be a third party game producer in 2002. In
2000, Sony went on to release the PlayStation 2, which would eventually become the dominant
console of the sixth generation, while Nintendo released the GameCube and the Gameboy Advanced
in 2001. Microsoft entered the business the same year with the Xbox, which was very popular in the
US, but was a flop in most other countries. What about the industry now? Currently there are five next

Sony s PlayStation 4. The Xbox One has the most processing power, but is very expensive and doesn t

Drosophila Melanogaster Linkage And Inheritance Essay
Drosophila melanogaster, Linkage Inheritance
Peggy Chang 999349986
BIOC15 Peter, PRA002
University of Toronto Scarborough
Abstract
This experiment studied Mendel s law of independent assortment through observing three generations
of Drosophila melanogaster. His law was examined by looking at the inheritance patterns that
predicted genetic linkage, mapping distances and interference. Genes are located along chromosomes
and the distances between them vary. During recombination, these genes may become unlinked. The
frequency to which this occurs relies on the recombination frequency, in which a greater value
represents a greater distance between two loci. By looking at inheritance patterns and recombination
frequencies, this experiment showed that white eyes, short wings and forked bristles are X linked
traits. As well, dumpy wings and brown eyes are autosomal traits. The expected ratio of a dihybrid
cross of 9:3:3:1, was used to determine linkage between two loci. This was then verified using a chi
square test. Through analysis of our results, linkage existed between white eyes and short wings, as
well as between short wings and forked bristles. Linkage was also found for the strains that had
dumpy wings and brown eyes.

  • 3. A Comparison Of Olympia Manet And A Dolce And Gabbana... Painting is the art of creating pictures by applying colors to a surface. Paintings can capture events; they record a creativity of a person, place or object. However paintings can also tell a story in itself, it can be a decorative item in a billion dollar mansion. Paintings can express emotions and ideas, or simply be enjoyed for their beauty. Both The Olympia Manet painting and a Dolce and Gabbana perfume advertisement, both represent its inner beauty. In both the pictures, the model is being their own selves and feeling the freedom. Although both the pictures have nude models, they have different purposes. According to Edouard Manet , These painting was first displayed in Paris in 1865. It is an oil painting. The painting shows ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Her expressions are fearless and natural without any interruption of negative thoughts. She lays comfortably on the bed and has a light smile on her face. In this painting, I feel that the artist is mainly focusing on Olympia. He shows the simplified forms of the face, the simplified forms of the neck and then the hair which is perfectly brushed and tied up with a flower and the body which is seamlessly lying on the Oriental shawl which is off white and has a thin border of textile flowers. I believe that the artist spends a lot of time on the figure of Olympia. The finishing of the painting is making it perfect and it is a really different quality that results from that kind of brushy sense of spontaneity. The shades that the artist has used on the body of Olympia create a sense of three dimensional. On the other hand, the focal point of the painting is obviously Olympia. There is a slickness of the brightness to the body of Olympia, whereas the lady behind Laure has a dark and rough texture. The colors which the artist has used in the painting are earth tones and there is a light and smooth contrast of dark and bright. The extra contrast of dark and light color of the painting divides the canvas into these zones of light and dark. The dark wall in the painting shows the illusion of depth. The level of details and the darkness of the color at the back shows the depth of the painting. The orchid in her hair, her gold color ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. The History of Metallica Essay The History of Metallica As the nineteen seventies came to a close so did many of the musical styles of that decade. While some faced what seemed to be extinction others went through a sort of evolutionary process. The bands that were at the top of the heavy metal ladder during this time were such acts as Motorhead, Iron Maiden, and Tygers of Pan Tang. These groups would be just some of what the new crop of heavy metal bands would consider inspirational. This style, which is typically referred to as The New Wave of British Heavy Metal, would fuel and empower many acts to stardom. Ron s mother owned several houses, and the vacant one James would be moving into was doubled as a rehearsal space since Ron was learning how to play the bass guitar. (Doughton 15 16) As nineteen eighty one rolled around both James and Lars were looking for musicians that shared the same taste in music they each had. Lars decided to place an advertisement in a South California paper called The Recycler. The only other ad that came close was James and so the two decided to meet. Their first practice together was anything but smooth, considering the fact that Lars was still learning and could not even keep his drum set upright. (Krgin 51) Even though Lars was clearly unprepared to make a career out of music he had made some connections. He befriended a man named Brian Slagel, who was in the process of forming his own record company named Metal Blade Records. Brian was in the middle of doing a compilation project where his goal was to expose up and coming bands to the general public. He pretty much guaranteed Lars a spot on his project if Lars could form a band. Lars got the information back to James and so they decided to give it a try. James, Lars, Ron, and a friend, guitarist Lloyd Grant went into a recording studio and recorded what would be Metallica s first song, Hit The Lights. For three centuries Brazil s economy was heavily curbed because since Portugal discovered Brazil, they subjected it s economy to an imperial mercantile policy or a strictly enforced colonial pact. Even though Brazil received its independence in 1822, Portugal s phase of decisions left a lasting, powerful imprint on Brazil s economy and society. One such film is, Jean Pierre Jeunet s highly successful film Amelie (2001). The French believe that the success of a film isn t measured by the money it makes, but by the number of people who watch it. They believe that everything cultural must be protected from the domination of the markets, a concept known as L exception Culturelle (The French Cultural Exception) (Wikipedia, 2011). Lutz Yes, it s only Reservation Blues but I like it: On the Connection between Christian and Native Religions One of the most interesting aspects of the anthropological study of Catherine A. Lutz, entitled Unnatural Emotions, is that the author applies the same sort of intense self examination to her own project as an anthropologist amongst the Ifaluk as she does to the Ifaluk themselves. Every individual at some point in his or her own life has been confronted with the surprise, after all, that someone seems exactly like me. Or, conversely, one is shocked how another human animal, possessing roughly the same physical attributes of one s genus and species as one s self, could behave in such a horrible/wonderful fashion, totally unlike ... But beyond this initial emotional connection, the reader s sense of strangeness and estrangement of the community is again reborn by the tone of the narrative and the detailed though magical realist evocation of Native, Western reservation life. The seamless blend of Native American folklore and Catholicism is one of the oddest aspects of the novel to someone personally uninitiated and unfamiliar with Native religions, except on a superficial level. For instance, one of the novel s backup vocalists Checkers Warm Water develops a relationship with the reservation priest. It is difficult, once one accepts the level of oppression experienced by these Native American individuals, to fully understand why Christianity, the religion of Caucasians, would have any draw at all. Why doesn t Checkers simply love her own Native religion and her own Native people through the context of that tradition? Why a priest? The only answer is perhaps found in the idea that many of the Indian characters seek, through rock and roll and through Catholicism as well, the sort of individualistic _expression ... REQUIRED i. The Emancipation Proclamation issued by President Lincoln declared that all people held as slaves within the rebel states, are now and forever free. This quote is especially important because it demonstrates the effects on society after the Proclamation was signed. What does Foner mean when he says that there was a broader question suggested by the end of slavery: Should the freedmen be viewed as ready to take their place as citizens and participants in the competitive marketplace, or did their unique historical experience oblige the federal government to take special action in their behalf? (31) How did creation of the Freedmen s Bureau suggest one answer to this question? REQUIRED i. The creation of the Freedmen s Bureau suggests a great deal about the South during the Reconstruction era of the United States. The Bureau was created to help emancipated slaves and refugees have some kind of access to land. Along with access to land, the Bureau itself was empowered to distributes clothing, food, and fuel to those who have become free men. In my opinion, I believe the creation of the Freedmen s Bureau answered the question of citizenship in the sense that freedmen should be considered citizens right off the bat. Back then, owning property was a huge part of citizenship. By providing help with access to land, freedmen had the chance to become an equal citizen. 3. The Meaning of Freedom a. What did Jonathan C. Rhetorical Analysis – Other Voices, Other Rooms In this essay, Other Voices, Other Rooms , Professor Gerald Graff offers that education at a university could be exciting and rewarding for students. However, it applies to those who have developed the skills at summarizing, weighing arguments and synthesizing conflicting points. Unfortunately, not all students possess these skills and as they start getting confused they will care more about appeasing the professor in order to obtain good grades. In return, they will give their professors whatever they want even though it seems contradictory to their beliefs (339). Graff believes that not all college students possess the skills necessary to be successful and that professors are only making the issue worse by teaching in a vacuum. ... Graff says that contrast is fundamental to learning and in order to fully grasp the concept, and the subject needs to be understood in relation to other ideas. In his second example, in attempting to strengthen his argument, Graff uses an academic reference, The Structure of Scientific Revolutions by Thomas S. Kuhn. Kuhn says, Both the literati and the scientist have remained largely walled up within their clashing assumptions about objectivity, the smugness of which might have been punctured had these parties been forced to argue with each other in their teaching (341). Even though Graff and Kuhn share the same thoughts, Kuhn s reference does not provide any evidence to support his claims. He then introduces Gregory Colomb, which his reference again doesn t add credibility; it detracts from the essay because readers have to read the text several times just to get through this part of the writing. Graff says, Imagine trying to write and academic paper when you send that almost anything you say can be used against you and that the intellectual moves that got you an A in existentialist philosophy may get you a C minus and a dirty look in Skinnerian behaviorism (342) . Essay on The Implications of Technology in the Movie Her About nine years ago I discovered a book called The Age of Spiritual Machines by a man named Ray Kurzweil that demanded my immediate interest. I was captivated by his view of the future of technology astoundingly positive and bright compared to most peoples negative or dystopian outlook when it comes to the dangers of a society increasingly reliant on machines and technology. I recently had the privilege of watching Spike Jonze s 2013 movie her. Spike Jonze s recent movie her takes place in a future LA, but not one that you would expect, having most popular visions of the future being dark and dystopian. The streets are clean and the people are happy. Everything is basked in a pastel like glow, feeling nostalgically retro. Technology is used to their advantage for convenience, but has not overtaken their lives and created a society of anti social recluses. Jonze s vision of the future is decidedly positive and a refreshing take on what humanity can do if they make the right choices. Enter Theodore, the protagonist who has separated from his wife in the past year. He is a depressed, hopeful romantic clinging onto the thought that his wife will change her mind and come back to him, evident in his reluctance to sign his divorce papers. While walking down the street one day he notices an advertisement for a new operating system named OS1, touted as being the first artificially intelligent operating system. Throughout the rest of the movie, he grows alongside Samantha (which is what the OS decided to name herself). She begins to find herself and develop wants and needs. We have made being a Christian long and labor some. Few church members understand the concept of grace. They have forgotten that Jesus just wants be our friend. Right now, most churches have banded guitars and drums. Most churches also still sing long winded and mournful songs. Churches should sing new songs that are happy and joyful. They should have well behaved drummer and guitar player. The fourth problem is in the worship service. Most church services are predictable, long and boring with no variety. The worship service should be thoughtful, yes even exciting and full of variety. A problem related to the one above is communion. It has become boring, long, predicable and not meaningful. This was a short period in which, due to the popping up of communist ideals in European countries, Americans feared and defended against the infiltration of communism into the United States, seeking to maintain democracy. The combination of these beliefs and events show that America was heavily invested in its democratic ideals and wanted to spread them, encouraging them to enter the war for this cause. Another reason why Americans wanted to enter the war was due to the fact that Germany was becoming increasingly aggressive toward the U.S. The sinking of the Lusitania and the interception of the Zimmermann Telegram, a communication between Germany and Mexico where Germany asked Mexico to attack the U.S. to distract them in exchange for land, both played a part in rallying support for entrance into the war. This pro war sentiment was also expressed after the war, as is clearly evidenced by the support for the Treaty of Versailles, which included the rejected proposal for the League of Nations, among some people. Currently, the largest source of biofuels in the United States is corn based ethanol. The large scale of corn ethanol production and the potential promise of finding a domestic, reliable source of energy, requires the fuel s viability as a replacement for crude oil to be evaluated. However, there is debate surrounding corn based ethanol s environmental, economic, and social impacts. The scientists and governments who support the development of biofuels claim that it will not only provide a new and sustainable source of energy but also that it will reduce greenhouse gas emissions and is therefore better for the environment. However, although corn based ethanol continues to harbor support from the United States government, environmentalists argue that ethanol is not substantially better for the environment, especially when the effects of its production are taken into account. Also, while some larger farms profit from ethanol production, it places economic stress upon smaller farms and the agricultural industry and leads to higher food prices that are a great detriment to those living at the level of subsistence. Therefore, in order to produce energy efficient, environmentally friendly fuel, the United States must work towards developing cellulosic biofuels and those produced by microbes as they have fewer consequences than corn based ... Verse 5 says, Then the angel showed me the river of the water of life, as clear as crystal. This pericope is apocalyptic because verse 1 is just one example of the means of revelation. The genre is also apocalyptic because it has examples of determinism. The restoration of the New Jerusalem is history moving forward towards a conclusion. The last evidence of this pericope being apocalyptic literature is the division of history into the Old and New Ages. The entire pericope is about the coming of the New Jerusalem, which is brining the old age to a close. Texting shortcuts no threat to children s developing language skills, study finds This article from The Mercury investigates a study conducted in collaboration with researchers in England and Tasmania. The study examines the relationship between the use of texting language and language skills in young students. There has been a general consensus that the overuse of electronic devices must impair the language ability. However the research found no negative relationship between formal writing skills and the use of textisms . Furthermore the study suggests that texting can actually have a positive effect. Topic 1: Research methods The procedure of the study was comprised of three components. Firstly, participants were asked to complete a questionnaire in order to collect data about the participant s texting habits and their demographic information (De Jonge Kemp, 2012). Next participants were instructed to translate Standard English sentences from two lists into texting language; one list was typed into their phone and the other was written on paper (De Jonge Kemp, 2012). They infect an average of 2.7 billion people world wide, but mainly infect those living in poverty stricken countries. These diseases can lead to life long disabilities, disfigurement, and promote poverty. Most of the infected countries live on an average of two U.S. dollars a day with no access to healthcare, making some of the relatively cheap drug therapies unattainable. Even though the neglected tropical diseases infect over two billion people and cause an average of five hundred thousand deaths a year respectively, research and awareness for these diseases are virtually nonexistent. Since these diseases are not found in first world countries with adequate health care, research and funding is not seen as a priority. The neglected tropical diseases are caused by different pathogens. Eight are caused by Helminths, three by protozoa, two by viruses, and the remaining four diseases are caused by bacteria. Creatine Literature Review Literature Review: Creatine Supplementation Introduction Creatine is a natural substance that occurs in the body, it is also a supplement that has been tested by numerus athletes over the years to see whether it has a positive effect on performance. However, there is anecdotal evidence that suggests creatine supplementation may be the cause of negative side effects such as dehydration, the increase of muscle cramping and an increase in blood pressure. One way the supplementation of creatine can improve performance is by aiding the resynthesise ATP (Adenosine Triphosphate) stores within the body in order to produce energy at a quicker rate therefore the most common athletes to take creatine are high intensity power athletes who are repeated actions multiple times. Such as those doing long distance events such as cycling, swimming and running, it may also be used as a way of recovery for sprinters. A study carried out by Kreider R.B et al. • 33. Drosophila Melanogaster Linkage And Inheritance Essay Drosophila melanogaster, Linkage Inheritance Peggy Chang 999349986 BIOC15 Peter, PRA002 University of Toronto Scarborough Abstract This experiment studied Mendel s law of independent assortment through observing three generations of Drosophila melanogaster. His law was examined by looking at the inheritance patterns that predicted genetic linkage, mapping distances and interference. Genes are located along chromosomes and the distances between them vary. During recombination, these genes may become unlinked. The frequency to which this occurs relies on the recombination frequency, in which a greater value represents a greater distance between two loci. By looking at inheritance patterns and recombination frequencies, this experiment showed that white eyes, short wings and forked bristles are X linked traits. As well, dumpy wings and brown eyes are autosomal traits. The expected ratio of a dihybrid cross of 9:3:3:1, was used to determine linkage between two loci. This was then verified using a chi square test. Through analysis of our results, linkage existed between white eyes and short wings, as well as between short wings and forked bristles. Linkage was also found for the strains that had dumpy wings and brown eyes. Introduction Gregor Mendel, known as the father of genetics, paved the way ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... These strains were moved to stock vials and labelled A, B, C, D respectively. Each strain was observed using a dissecting microscope that allowed for the mutations to be visible. Strain A was observed to be wild type in all its traits. Strain B however was found to have white eyes, short wings and forked bristles. Strain C was observed to have dumpy wings and lastly strain D had brown eyes. Strains and their corresponding mutations can be seen in Table 1. The genotypic notation given to wild type traits and mutant traits can be seen in Table ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
