Odd Stories In The Bible
Throughout the Bible there are several stories that may seem odd and morally difficult to
understand. Although these stories appear to be much they all have a purpose and are trying to
tell us something. God works in mysterious ways, and these, odd, stories are where he began.
These purposeful stories consist of; Abraham almost sacrificing Isaac, Dinah s rape, and the
Potiphar s wife sexually harassing Joseph. Firstly, Abraham was promised by God that he was
going to bless his family and make great nations out of his descendants (Gen. 12:1 3). God first
told Abraham this when he was commanded by God to leave all that he knew to go live in an
unknown land. Then, because Abraham trusted God and followed his command he was
enlightened in the fact that God was going to bless him with as many descendants as there were
stars (Gen. 15:5 6). Although, Abraham had no children at the time he trusted God. But his wife,
Sarah, had little faith, so she told Abraham to lay with her servant, Hagar, so that he may have a
child to inherit his land. Ishmael is born to Abraham from Hagar, but that wasn t Gods plan, and it
didn t end up making Sarah happy. Therefore, God reminded Abraham that he will have many
descendants, as for me, this is my covenant with you: You shall... Show more content on

Upon this happening, Sarah forced Abraham to cast his first born son, Ishmael, and Hagar out of
his land, in order for Isaac to be heir of Abrahams land. Once Isaac grew God decided to test
Abrahams trust in him. God asked Abraham to sacrifice Isaac to him has a burnt offering, and
Abraham would have done so if Gods angel wouldn t have stopped him (Gen. 22:1 18). Although
Abraham didn t end up actually sacrificing his only son, he would have because he knew that
God knew what was best for him. He had put his faith and trust in God for so long that he knew
God had a plan and wouldn t allow him to

butterflies by Julia Alvarez. It is about 3 sisters who lose their life trying to stand up for watch was

the sister are heroes but I m going to tell you about only one. That sister is Minerva. Their is 3
great reasons why Minerva is a hero. Minerva stood up for Sinita by lying to El jefe. She also

Assess The Role Of A Professional Learning Community In...
According to Hord, Roussin Sommers (2012), the PLC centers on quality teaching that results in
students successful learning, Quality teaching is strengthened and increased through continuous
professional learning, and the PLC setting promotes this adult learning. Understanding the purpose
of a PLC is foundational to its creation and support. In fact, According to DuFour, DuFour Eaker
(2006) PLC, is a group of educators who meet regularly, sharing knowledge and skills, and who
work collaboratively and harmoniously to improve teaching skills and the performance of students.
Additionally, Provini (2012) stated that a professional learningcommunity represents the act of
transforming custom, law or pattern of behavior into institution that focus on constant improvement

Comparison Of Animal Farm And Moby Dick
Animals are a staple of childhood we are surrounded by them from birth into adulthood; hence, the
overwhelming mountain of stuffed animals and picture books sifted through at our transition into
maturity. Notably, animals appear in a variety of works, from children s literature to classics like
George Orwell s AnimalFarm and Herman Melville s Moby Dick. Recently, the scientific
community has obsessed itself with identifying a clear, distinctive boundary between humans and
animals, while the literary world has challenged scientific thought by blurring the boundaries
between the two. In fact, several pieces of literature attempt to eradicate any similarities by
presenting readers with a blend of humanand animal characters who serve a... Show more content

However, in Scene Eight, Eugene O Neill introduces a true animal character: a large ape, who is
the ultimate demise of Yank. In an attempt to connect with his supposed kind , Yank releases the
ape and unfortunately, the ape attacks him and leaves him in the cage to die. It is an ironic death,
yet symbolizes the boundary between humans and animals because an animal was able to take the
life of an ever superior human. The interaction causes readers to question whether or not there is a
clear boundary between humans and animals because an animal is able to take the entire essence
of a human away from us: life. Gabriel GarcГa MГЎrquez comments on the abilities of humans
and animals in his popular short story, A Very Old Man with Enormous Wings , by introducing
readers to a humanimal: a character who is both human and animal. The character is presented as an
angel with exceptional human like characteristics, so he is greatly criticized by the Church. On the
other hand, the townspeople view him as a spectacle in fact, the married couple who discovered the
tattered humanimal creates an enterprise based upon his differences from them. The interaction
between the townspeople and the angel is one of interest, as observed in the two quotes:

Critical Assessment of 3 Causes of World War 1
Critical Assessment of 3 Causes of World War 1
Nationalism is being a strong supporter of the rights and interests of one s country. It was very
high in the 19th century and nations which had not obtained independence by 1900 were
determined to do so as it gave groups of subject peoples the idea of forming independent nations of
their own.
In 1815, the Congress of Vienna took place. This was a conference held in Vienna in Austria
between ambassadors from the major powers in Europe. This conference left people under the
control of local dynasts or other nations and ignored nationalism in favour of preserving the peace,
however, revolutions and strong nationalistic movements during the late ... Show more content on

The program called for autonomy and language rights but most importantly it asserted that Croats
and Serbs were a single people. This display of unity alarmed ruling circles but had little practical
impact at the time as Belgrade Serbs paid little attention to Croatian politics.
The ethnic tensions that were present in Croatia in the late 19th century were accompanied by a
break down in Austro Serbian relations driven by a crisis over trade. Since 1881 Austria had
dominated Serbia s foreign trade which consisted mostly of pigs driven to slaughterhouses in
Hungary. By 1905, 84 percent of Serbia s exports were going to Austria Hungary and 53 percent
of Serbia s imports were from Austria Hungary. However, when they were at war Austria blocked
Serbian pigs from entering ports on the excuse that they carried diseases. This gave the Austro
Serbian war the alternate name of the Pig War .
Austro Serbian relations continued to deteriorate over Bosnia as well. Anti Habsburg secret
societies were popular among Bosnian Serbs and upon that The Black Hand came to. This was an
extremely dangerous Serbian nationalist society. The Black Hand was willing to sponsor all kinds
of anti Habsburg mischief in Bosnia and in the end supplied the weapons used in the

The Federal Reserve Act, The U.s. Financial System
Prior to the institution of the Federal Reserve Act, the U.S. financial system s basic structure was
determined by the National Banking Acts of 1863, 1864, and 1865 (Broz, 1999). The purpose of
the legislation was to provide a uniform national currency and to raise revenue for the federal
government during wartime (Broz, 1999). While effective in its main purposes, it was flawed in the
fact that the increase of available currency had little to no effect on consumer demand which led to
large seasonal swings in interest rates and banking panics (Friedman Schwartz, 168 169). In an
attempt to rectify the shortcomings of the National Banking System, government turned to the New
York Clearinghouse Association, purportedly known as the first central bank. Originally responsible
for the settlement of payments between financial institutions, it was chosen because it was the only
source at the time that had the ability to provide funds during high demand periods through a
discount window or an open market operation (Broz, 1999). In the end, it failed to maintain an
adequate amount of liquid reserves to counteract the monetary crisis s that ensued during the
agricultural harvest cycles, when currency demands accelerated. In response to the most
detrimental Panics of 1873, 1893, and 1907, a faction of wealthy bankers created the concept of
The Federal Reserve, an entity that would serve as the central banking system. After prior failed

A Historical Survey Of Architecture And Urbanism
A Historical Survey of Architecture and Urbanism: from Antiquity to the Middle Ages The Houses
of Roman Italy Introduction This paper evaluates the design and structures of the Roman houses
since the antiquity era to the Middle Ages. The paper digs deep into the houses that the Romans
built and compares several factors that give relative argument base for the entire paper. It is
outlined that most Roman houses were built in respect to the wealth and influence of individuals
within the society. This analysis gives all the facts related to the above topic and tries to
undercover the reason as to why class was a consistent factor within the society. It can be argued
that the design and structures of the Roman houses were proposed in respect to the wealth and
position of an individual in the society (Macdonald, 1007). There was no specific that was to be
followed when coming up with different designs. Some of the most prestigious houses within the
community were inhabited by the wealthy persons. This identity was used to weigh individual;
performance in both the local and external performances. The paper also introduces the destinations
and locations that most of these Roman houses were built. It presents a chronological argument on
why the Roman houses existed like this all through. Thesis statement; most of the Roman houses

Overall feedback
MightSight was an interesting disruptive idea. The mental health market is growing and is
continuing to be a hot topic, an app that places control in the hands of the customer sounds viable.
Group 37 made it clear how Millennials would feel about their data being available on mobile, but
I would have been interested to understand how Group 37 would have overcome the obstacle, via
their branding, about how people would feel about being implanted with a chip.
What went well?
в—ЏI felt a clear gap in the market was identified for a personalised mental health App, however,
supported evidence was lacking and would be been helpful.

It was a shame they were presented without narration, as I felt they could have made some
substantial claims about how the App would match John and Marie s requirements. Marie s
persona mentioned that she never had the time to go see a psychiatrist, however, for the chip to be
implanted in the customer they would need to find time to see their physician. I think these
challenges could have been covered if the slide would have been narrated.
в—ЏEarly adopters were depicted in the Business Model Canvas, but it would have been great to
hear why Medical Students and young music and sports stars would have taken to the App and why
they would have been advocates of the business.
в—ЏAs specified in the proposal, narration wasn t recorded over every single slide.
в—ЏThe brand mission and purpose were unique, but I felt it would have been interesting to
understand how MindSight would have been positioned and would appeal to the target audience,
creating an authentic experience. The slide was cut off at the end, which again was a shame as I
wanted to hear more.
How could this have been improved?
в—ЏMore supporting evidence about how the App would disrupt the market would have made the
proposal more compelling.
в—ЏI liked the idea of the content marketing strategy, I could how the videos of the personas
would be engaging. It would have been great to see some more examples of the social content with

Lucynell Cratet s Interactions With The Outsiders Short Story
In his interactions with the Lucynell Craters, Tom Shiftlet has a chance to achieve Grace. He
has been wandering and has no friends, and has found in this household a chance to work hard,
watch a beautiful sunset every night, and live a quiet life. This opportunity is hinted at when he
first approaches the two women sitting on the porch and turns his back to them to face the
sunset: He swung both his whole and his short arm up slowly so that they indicated an expanse
of sky and his figure formed a crooked cross. That crooked cross embodied in his figure
represents his chance at salvation. As he drives toward Mobile, having missed his chance, he prays,

devil as he abandons Lucynell at The Hot Spot.
As in many of Flannery O Connor s stories, weather is an important indicator of characters moods

fantastic raindrops, like tin can tops, crashed over the rear of Mr. Shiftlet s car.

The process of tying a headscarf or a hijab isn t hard once you get the hang of it. There are many
different ways of tying a headscarf and many different styles available. I ll be explaining a simple
and casual way that can be worn on any occasion. Before you begin, you ll need a Hijab, one that
has a reasonable length and a colorthat you prefer. It should be long enough for you to be able to

remaining side around your shoulder, or leave it in place. Some people choose to not even wrap
it around, and they just throw the one side over their shoulder. For added stability, you can place
a little underscarf under your hijab to keep it in place. This makes even the slippery type of
hijabs stay on all day long. When you re done with everything, check in the mirror to make sure
you got the results you were looking for. Make any adjustments if needed. Just like that, you re

The Model T Revolutionized The Automotive Industry
When Henry Ford began making cars, he felt that the automotive was destined to make the horse
and carriage disappear. However, to make that happen first he needed to produce a car that was
affordable by everyone. In 1908, he achieved that with the production of the Model T. The
Model T revolutionized the automotive industry. The Model T was the first affordable car for
the masses. Its affordability came from several properties. First, the Model T featured all
interchangeable parts. Parts in one Model T were exactly the same as the parts in another model T
made in the same year. Second, the Model T was the first car to contain vanadium steel parts,
which were stronger, more dependable and lighter weight than previous steel pieces and they could
be manufactured easier. Third, the Ford Company was the first company to employ a moving
assembly linewhich allowed them to assemble the cars faster than anyone else.
In the early 1900s, the automotive industry was a burgeoning business with many competitors
trying to out do each other. Companies rose and fell on a regular basis. By 1903, 214 different
companies had arisen in America to manufacture the automobile. However, by 1904, at least 84 of
those had either ceased to exist or changed to a different line of work. (Ford, 234) When he joined
the ranks of manufacturers in 1903, Henry Ford was determined to make his company work. When
the Ford Motor Company began, it like many other companies of its time, ordered parts for their

New Zealand Foreign Policy
Within two days, Prime Minister Peter Fraser responded with a cable that transformed the
trajectory of New Zealand s foreign policy. The cable is not published in full, however, the
published extracts reveal that Fraser emphasised the deterioration in the Pacific theatre and the fact
that His Majesty s Government... do not perhaps fully understand the point of view that is being
forced by circumstances upon the Government and peoples of New Zealand. Further, the cable
speaks of an intention to establish the closest possible relations with the US, while always having
regard to New Zealand s primary connection with the British Commonwealth. In making his
position clear, Fraser proposed that the New Zealand government send to Washington a Minister
of the Crown on special mission . The importance of this cable as a whole, particularly the final
proposal, cannot be understated and is exemplified by the regard afforded to it by historians. Wood
refers to this cable as the most important single document in the formation of New Zealand foreign
policy. McIntyre speaks of this moment as when the phase of dual dependency began .
Lissington looks at this proposal as a new phase in New Zealand s foreign policy . The reason
for its remarkable significance is that it was the first time New Zealand looked beyond Britain for
a formal security alliance. It must be recognised that New Zealand had not yet formally severed its
ties with Britain, had no overseas missions outside

Ageism is prejudice and discrimination against older adults. (Schaefer, 2012) It is a set of beliefs,

The information in this section of the AoA website brings together a wide variety of statistical
information about this growing population. (Aging, 2013)
What types of legislation may or may not be affected by the aging population?
The two types of legislation that may or may not affect the aging population in the United States
are; The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act of 2010 and the Health Care and Education
Affordability Reconciliation Act of 2010 respectively. Population aging may affect financial
markets if individuals tend to amass assets during their working years and spend them during
retirement. When there is a large cohort such as the baby boom, there may be more demand than
usual for corporate stock and other assets while the cohort saves for retirement. This demand for
corporate stock and other assets may abate after the cohort retires. (tonihansberry, 2012)
How does poverty affect the aging population?
Aging Americans, like other age groups, are feeling the effects of the declining real estate and
stock markets, as well as soaring fuel and food prices. Seniors economic security will only
increase in importance as the U.S. population ages. The nation s health and social services
resources will face unprecedented demand as 75 million people in the baby boomer generation

How Does Arthur Conan Doyle Use The Observant Character Of...
The basis of detective fictions is a well developed and observant character that is able to walk the
audience and outside perspectives through the case. In this case, Arthur Conan Doyle utilizes the
observant perspective of Watson to describe the actions of Sherlock Holmes. Doyle characterizes
Sherlock through underscoring vocabulary and the first person understanding of Watson. A series
of analytical language and descriptive literary devices such as juxtaposition to portray the effects of
Irene Adleron the near perfect character of Sherlock Holmes. Doyle begins the passage by
emphasizing THE woman to Sherlock Holmesin order to introduce an impacting character within
the selective and closed off life of Sherlock. The emphasis on THE resembles her as an
overbearing character that has establish a lasting impact on Sherlock as even he does not
mention her under any other name. The lack of emphasis on her name, but rather her mark on
Sherlock, is utilized to present an ambivalent feeling within Sherlock in which he can t identify
her as a flaw or test of himself. Doyle proceeds by clarifying the idea of her overbearing image by
characterizing her as the dominant image for the whole of his sex in order to reemphasize her
presence in Sherlock s highly selective and egoistic memory. Furthermore, Doyle utilizes the close
relationship of Watson to clarify that it was not any emotion akin to love in order to introduce the
idea of reason rather than emotion, specifically love. In addition, this is the first time THE woman [
s] name is mentioned to slowly introduce the character and ease into the rest of the story and
flashback of their encounter. Further on, Doyle continues the juxtaposition of emotion and reason
within Sherlock s mind through a series of

Black Beauty And Anna Sewell s George And The Jewels
Wow! Reading the point of view of a first person narrative reveals so much about the author s
thoughts. While reading first person narratives, it enables readers to understand more information
throughout the story. Hearing the thoughts and ideas right from the character makes it easier to
make connections. In the short story George and the Jewels by Jane Smiley, the main character
Abby goes through a transition from disliking horses to understanding them. In Black Beauty by
Anna Sewell, the story is narrated by a horsewho is introduced into a new environment where he
has to become used to being rode every day. By examining Black Beauty and The George and

At the end, it shows her being in a relaxed and calm state. Abby is remembering her mare that she
tamed back then, wishing to see the horse again. This point of view is important to the story
because the reader can understand how she connects with the horse, but unlike her father, she sees
them as smart animals and compares them to dogs. By viewing the story in first person, the reader
is able to understand Abby s thoughts and feelings in depth about her changing emotions with
horses. There is a similar short passage that connects these ideas.
Black Beauty uses first person narratives to interpret the new environment and how the horse
feels about the changes. In quote 1, it states, I had of course been used to a halter and a headstall,
and to be led about in the fields and lanes quietly, but now I was to have a bit and bridle, my master

Stephen King Rhetorical Analysis
Additionally, King builds his credibility with the utilization of ethos in his text in order to
convince them of his argument. By appealing to the readers ethics, they can see how trustworthy
King s words are and then can let themselves be persuaded by his matter of fact tone and
professionalism in writing. King is a realist, which means that he almost always represents
things as they really are, which profoundly helps establish his honest persona. Most of Stephen
King s writing represents more than one tenet, as his stories that he tells about his childhood and
road to recovery from drug addiction and alcoholism can be seen as not only pathos, but and
etho as well, as these stories help the readers to understand what kind of person he is, and how
he accomplished all of his success despite a couple of major roadblocks. This is why it can be
seen that King uses pathos most heavily in his writing, by telling vivid stories, etc. in order to
touch upon human emotion towards human experiences/traits, while also creating a strong
voice in his writing as well. The overlapping of these appeals help support the ethics and
sensibility of King s work. There are scores of times where it can be clearly identified where
ethos have been used in his writing. For example, King says I m a slow reader, but i usually get
through seventy or eighty books a year, mostly fiction. I don t read in order to study the craft; i
read because i like to read. Similarly, I don t read to study the art of fiction, but simply because I
like stories Every book you pick up has its own lesson or lessons, and quite often the bad books
have more to teach than the good ones (King, pg 145) This helps to support the idea that writing
is learned through reading, and also is learned through the mistakes of other writers. There is no
better way to learn than to look at a piece of writing that has some minor or even major flaws and
to analyze the piece to see what the issue is, and learn from their mistake to better your own
writing in the future. Another one of King s main arguments is that no writer is perfect. There are
always things that you can do to make your writing even better, no matter how small the adjustment
may be. It s a learning process

Prosthetic Limbs Research Paper
When researching prosthetics, one of the fields I was rather interested in exploring was the
technology that goes into the development and design of prosthetics. The topic is unarguably
interesting and becoming more popular for both research and funding purposes. I was curious to
see how the original practice of prostheticswas developed and when they were first used along with
how technological advances throughout time have correlated with developmental advancements in
prosthetics. I was quite surprised after learning that the idea of prosthetic limbs was actually
introduced an extremely long time ago. In the year 2000, researchers in Cairo,
Egypt, unearthed what they believe to be the oldest documented artificial body part a prosthetic toe
made of wood and leather. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The science has recently started to become more advanced due to funding and research. Further,
owing to the poor healing capacity of the nervous system and an aging population contributing to
more persons becoming disabled by problems such as stroke and Parkinson s disease, the
demand for prosthetic solutions is growing. 2 I read about a meeting that was held that combined
160 different professionals like scientists, engineers, researchers and many others all with the
hope of creating powerful and adaptive prosthetics. The meetings consisted of making the process
of production and performance more efficient. Materials scientists would kill to be able to
produce a material as amazing as biological muscle, which can retract on command, stretch by
about 70% without damage, and heal its own nicks and tears. Now, researchers say they re getting
closer with a synthetic material that can do all these things, though not as well as natural muscle.
The advance could one day be useful in robotics and prosthetics. 3 So it s clear that there are
efforts being put towards the advancement of prosthetics but also towards the research and possible

Environmental Effects Of Urbanization On Shanghai And New...
A Comparison: environmental effects of urbanization in Shanghai and New York City
Since the industrial revolution, many developed and developing countries have begun the process
of urbanization to achieve faster development. The transformation from rural to urban brings the
human beings convenience and wealth. However, in the past decade, many cities have met not only
benefits but also challenges. Environmental problems continue to grow in those high density areas.
To investigate these problems and their influences, two cities, from a developed country and a
developing country each, New York City(the U.S.A) and Shanghai (China) are chosen to compare.
Both cities are economic centers in their own countries. New York Citystarted its urbanization in
the 19th century while Shanghai started in around 1980s. The process NYC has experienced,
especially environmental problems, is a good example for Shanghai government to learn from when
it continues its urbanization step in the future. Three problems are investigated: air pollution, water
quality and soil contamination. These ones are significant in our lives as they can affect our organs
and thus influences our health directly.
Through urbanization, the most common view is the establishment of factories. Most of these
factories are located in heavy industrial areas of the cities. It is easy to hypotheses that air quality
has become worse in Shanghai since it started urbanization in the 1980s. However, there is not a

Mahatma Gandhi Contributions
Mahatma Gandhi was born in Porbandar, India on October 2nd, 1869. His parents were
Karamchand Uttamchand Gandhi and Putlibai Gandhi. He was named Mahatma in his early life,
which means great soul and some said he was a reincarnation of Vishnu, who was the second god in
the Hindu group of three. Gandhi was influential in religious, political and equality practices.
In Gandhi s early life (30 to early 40 s) he accomplished life changing events that set him on a
path that leads to helping all kinds of people. His first major influence was when he fought
against racial discrimination in South Africa in 1893. At the time of his arrival he faced common
discrimination against people of color. The Natal Assembly was going to make a law that banned
voters that were not of European origin. Another influence he had was in 1906 in South Africa.
There was a law placed that required all Asian men who were in the Transvaal Province to be
fingerprinted and have a form of pass. So Gandhi started the Satyagraha (AKA truth force)
campaign of nonviolent resistance. He advised that Indians defy the law and take the punishments
that come with the act of rebelliousness. This movement got more serious in 1914 when there was
a ВЈ3 tax on ex indentured Indians and the state refused to acknowledge Indian marriages.
Satyagraha went on for 7 years, during which thousands of Indians were put into cuffs and some
were killed. In 1914 the ВЈ3 tax was removed and marriages were recognized due to the uproar

Green Bay Packers Characteristics
The Green Bay Packers are one of the most notable teams in the NFL and all of sports. The four
time Super Bowl champions have a few negative qualities, including bad defenses in the past and
recent years of unsuccessful playoff runs. However, the negatives do not outweigh the team s
powerhouse offense and Super Bowl trophies. The team was founded in 1919 and had very little
success until 1929. This is the start of the Green Bay Packersthat most people know as Titletown .
From 1929 to present day, the Packers have won 13 championships. That being the most
championships won by a single team in NFL history. While the Green Bay Packers are a very
successful team, they have had their up s and down s.
One of the team s biggest strengths is their powerhouse offense. But the man under center is what
makes that powerhouse offense run. That man is Aaron Rodgers. Aaron Rodgers is one of the
best quarterbacks in the league if not the best. His statistics are unbelievable. He has the highest
quarterback rating in NFL history at 103.8, while the second closest is 98.9. He has thrown 300
touchdowns to only 74 interceptions. That being a 4:1 touchdown to interception ratio, also the
best in NFL history. One of his most impressive streaks was his success at home. In 2015, he threw
an interception at home. The last one he threw at home before that was in 2012. He went three
years without throwing an interception at home. Truly a remarkable feat. In 2011, Aaron had one of

Animal behavior can often imitate our own. There is much to find out by looking at research on the
linguistics of primates. In an experiment a chimp named Lana was able to learn a lot about human

Two different experimental apes named Washoe and Koko showed an amazing ability to learn and

psycholinguistics? psycholinguistics is the study of how we learn and understand language. When
we study apes and the way they learn, we may be looking into the dim corridors of our own past.
This can give a great deal of insight into the way that we learn and understand all forms of
communication. If you understand the base of something, you have a better chance to grasp the
entire meaning and concept of it. The Washoe project began in 1967 at the University of Nevada in

Second Peloponnesian War Essay

Athens maintained some success. The Spartan King Archimedes II lay siege to the city revolt of
Plataea, and the Athenians were able to hold out there until 427, when the city fell. It was during
this time that , incited by the Spartans, took place at Mytilene.
The second stage of the Second Peloponnesian War lasted from 421 to 413, and saw battles in
Syracuse and Sicily. During this time, Corinth attempted to build coalitions among the states
against Athens, and Alcibiades betrayed Athens to the Spartans. During the Battle of Mantinea,
Argos, which had been courted by both sides, lost the bulk of their military and then became an ally
to Athens. This is also the phase at which, thanks to new Athenian allies in the Peloponnese,...

In this battle, the Athenian naval superiority was lost as Sparta was able to use gold, sent from the
Persian king Cyrus, to build a fleet rivaling the Athenian. The battle ended tragically for the
Athenians. After this battle, Persian officially entered the contest and threw its naval support
behind Sparta, hastening the inevitable end of the conflict.
The conflict ended suddenly in 405. The remaining Athenian fleet was caught unawares at
Hellespont and destroyed. This signified the first time in a century that Athens did not have control
of the Aegean. Sparta blockaded land routes, thus preventing resupply to Athens. By 404, Athens
capitulated.
Sparta offered Athens reasonable terms, given the time. No soldiers were slaughtered, and no
temples were razed. The Athenian Long Walls, as well as the defenses of the Piraeus, were
demolished. These two structures had long been a thorn in the side to Sparta. The Athenians

Analysis Of The Film Daisies
The 1966 Czechoslovakian film Daisies was released two years before what was known as the
Prague Spring, where a reformist Czech leader loosened up restrictions in the Communist
dominated nation. The result was the 1968 invasion led by the Soviet Union that crushed this
little rebellion and firmly re established Soviet control of the nation (Encyclopaedia Britannica).
That puts a context on this film and gives some reason to the madness that the film portrays of
two young women who decide to spend the day being bad, which means doing things that are
against the grain of normal society. Nothing criminal happens with the girls (well, maybe some
trespassing and stealing some farmer s crops) but the point is that they want to do things that
aren t really normal for the day. These two girls, both named Maria, are probably about twenty
years old or so, and therefore would have been born immediately after the end of World War II.
Though their youth would have shielded them a bit, it was a time of great transition for the
country as it was under Nazi occupation first before being taken over and held by the Soviet Union.
They probably would have grown up hearing about the great freedoms that their parents
experienced before the war when they were a free nation and as a result, that seed would have
grown within their minds that they too wanted that freedom of expression denied to them under the
Worker s Paradise of Soviet Communism. So, what were the girls

Figurative Language In The Scarlet Ibis
It was in the clove of seasons, summer was dead but autumn had not yet been born, that the ibis lit
in the bleeding tree (James Hurst, The Scarlet Ibis ). This line of figurative language from Hurst s
short story shows the setting and how summer is gone, but autumn has not started yet. In literature,
authors use figurative language to emphasize setting or to add to characterization. In The Scarlet Ibis
, Doodle is a six year old disabled boy who is unable to walk. Brother , the narrator, works hard to
get Doodle to be able to things that normal kids do, but the pride he has for himself does not want
to deal with the embarrassment of having a disabled brother. In The Scarlet Ibis author James Hurst
uses figurative language to establish the theme of how pride can blind oneself from the things that
really matter.
The metaphors used in the short story reveal to the reader the insecurity the brother has within
himself. The brother works hard with Doodle to try to get him to walk, and once they succeed
he feels great confidence in himself. Doodle struggles to move great distances, so getting him to
walk further develops the brother pride. After he succeeds in getting Doodle to walk, he learns
something new about his relationship with Doodle as well as learning that pride is a wonderful,
terrible thing, a seed that bears two vines, life and death (5). The pride Brother has for himself
causes him to push Doodle to work harder to achieve the goal of walking. He tells himself he is
doing this for Doodle, that he wants Doodle to feel good about himself. However, the brother
wants to feel good about himself by developing a non disabled brother. While Doodle does start
to walk, the reader sees how the brother disregards Doodles feelings in the process. Like seeds,
which are the start of any vegetable, plant or flower, pride is the start of a life, or a vine, that can
lead to one of two outcomes, one that leads to a more self confident life, and another that causes
pain and suffering in others. Through the use of metaphors the author reveals the narrator s own
insecurity and how it causes him to make decisions for the wrong reasons.
Furthermore, Hurst s use of personification also adds to the theme, by revealing

An Analysis Of Euripides The Suppliants
In The Suppliants, Euripides wrote, The people cannot form proper judgements and therefore
cannot rightly direct a state . Euripides is living in the midst of democracy in Athens; therefore
his quote is a critique of what is happening around him. In his quote, he is taking an anti
democratic stance towards the question of who is fit to rule. Euripides believes only one or few
people should rule a state, as not all are qualified or have the proper judgement to do so. However,
people do rule the state, without having to meet any arbitrary requirements to be fit to rule. The
term proper judgement is highly subjective and the notion that only a few have the ability to rule is
simply paternalistic. The relative success of ancient Athenian and contemporary Swiss direct
democracyshow that people do have the ability to form proper judgments. It was Aristotlewho once
said man is a political animal , so it is in human nature to be politically involved. In opposition,
Platodescribes the grave consequences of placing the power into the one or the few in his ideal yet
authoritarian state.
There are many issues with Euripides quote. Firstly, the term proper judgment is extremely
abstract. For instance, Machiavelli and Kant would have very different ideas on what proper
judgment may be, but both are thought to be notable political philosophers. The decisions rulers
make will always be criticized by one group of people, so it is difficult to say for certain if someone

That way, as the imminent problems of greenhouse warming have been created by the Annex B
(developed) countries the burdens of adjustment should be put on them [2].
On the other hand, per capita gas emissions in developing countries are lower in comparison to
those ones in developed countries, so these should relatively support less limits as well. In addition
to this, the Kyoto Protocol also takes into account the growth needs of developing countries for
their current and future development. The UNFCCC considers that non Annex I countries will
need to produce higher greenhouse global emissions to achieve their social goals and meet their
development needs. Essentially, the Kyoto Protocol tries to integrate developing countries in this
commitment of reducing gas emissions, but without establishing a particular reduction target as it
does in the case of developed countries. That is why the UNFCCC takes into account their
particular and low economic conditions and does not want to impose any welfare burden or break
to their development because of the economic costs involved in limiting emissions. Thus, the
UNFCCC does not want to put any obstacle for the growth of developing countries, and it

The Rise Of Origami Cranes
In the world, there s a legend. It states that if you fold one thousand origami cranes, any with you
have will be granted. As a child, I wanted to have my wish granted, so I practiced and learned how
to create one. I ve also been asked by fellow classmates on how to create one. So, this is why I m
doing my how to on creating an origamicrane. Please note, if you cannot do it, do be discouraged.
This origami was meant for people at the intermediate level and above. So, without further ado,
let us begin! Step one, grab a square shaped paper and turn it to a diamond looking position. Step
two, you fold the paper in half by taking the top corner and folding to the bottom corner (to make
sure you did it correctly, make sure the crease runs... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
On step four, you open up the top flap and fold it down on itself, then crease it down. Finally,
take the first flap on the right and fold it to the left. Step five, do the same to the right side. Step
six, take both sides of the top layer and fold them in to meet in the middle, then unfold. Step
eight, turn the paper over and do the same (this is to help you with the next few steps). Step nine,
take the flap on the bottom and open it upwards (don t let anything else unfold, though). Step ten,
now see the folds you made at step eight on the inside? Slowly push the flap up and fold the left
and right corners inside along the crease you made. Step eleven, flip it over and repeat steps nine
and ten (by the end it should look somewhat like a kite). Step twelve, open the first left flap and
put it to the right. Take the bottom part and bring it to the top and crease it. Now take the flap
you just opened and put it back to the left (there should now be two flaps on the right and left).
Step thirteen, do the same thing you did to the right (again, there should be two flaps on the right
and left by the end of that). Step fourteen, see that big flap in front of you that looks like an
upside down V? Fold that down at a 90 degree angle.

Essay about Dental Office Floor Plan
The dental office floor plan detailed above clearly and cleanly divides the dental space into 3 clear
segmented areas: non clinical (patient and administration), clinical, (dental delivery) and clinical
support (supplies, storage, and laboratory). The non clinical space has the most diverse user traffic
patterns since patients and family members, clinical, and non clinical staff may use this area. This
non clinical space should not be blended with the clinical and clinical support areas. The bottleneck
areas are the patient in take and out take or registration area of the patient reception desk.
Inherently, all dental practices have practice waste, complexity, and variation built into the dental
floor plan or the design of the practice.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Additionally, the staff bathrooms should not be placed into the clinical areas but near the staff
break room located.
Practice design has direct relationship to patient flow. A common held belief in dentistryis that there
should be a separation between general dentistry and hygiene. This concept has each dental
provider working from dedicated general dentistry spaces, chairs, and setups and dental hygiene can
only perform cleanings in hygiene chairs and rooms. This forms dental departmental walls or work
areas done by dedicated function and creates a lot of walking and patient scheduling delays. The
definition of dental inefficiency and ineffectiveness is when staff members walk from the end of
one hallway to another to tell the dentist that the patient is ready for an exam or a procedure.
The concept of a favorite room to deliver care for those long, involved procedures must also be
eliminated. When all dental operatory or treatment rooms are designed and equipped identically a
provider can deliver the full spectrum of dental care in each and every room. Every dental
operatory then becomes a favorite room. This allows your front desk staff to be more flexible in
scheduling both urgent and emergent patients and for dental assistants to setup patients more
quickly. Dental operatories when appropriately dThree practice activity areas affect patient flow

Embryo Diagnosis
Embryo Diagnosis
Karen and Roger have decided to start a family. Again. It has been nearly six years since their
first and only child, Katie, was born, and just over two years since she died. In her four years of
life, Katie was plagued with the fatal Tay sachs disease. Because the enzyme needed to rid her
brain of fatty materials was absent at birth, she lost her sight when she was only eighteen months
old. Her ability to operate the left side of her body was gone several months later.
Understandably, the loss of their daughter devastated the young couple. The difficulty of watching
their little girl suffer and knowing it was their genetic makeup that caused her pain made it harder
to try having another baby. They honestly didn t ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The possibility of predicting not only diseases, but specific traits such as eye color, height, and
intelligence levels makes eugenics very possible and much easier to attain. Not only is eugenics
ethically incorrect, but it will also have a negative effect on our genetic diversity.
Testing embryos for predispositions to certain behavioral tendencies like violence, schizophrenia,
alcoholism, or homosexuality could also lead to unfair destruction. Nurture and environment are
also factors that constitute behavior, as well as genetics.
Once these tests have been performed, there is no guarantee that the results are absolutely written in
stone. It is possible to terminate perfectly healthy embryos and unknowingly implant those with the
dreaded disease. Also, doctors are unable to predict the true extent of the disease. An embryo
diagnosed as positive may develop into a child with less severe symptoms and still be able to lead a
somewhat normal and productive life.
Some wonder about the defective embryos. Their existence is due only to the chance that two
people may have a healthy child, and to destroy them seems cold. Gary D. Hodgen of the Jones
Institute has a response to this concern. We don t for a minute pretend an embryo is paper wad,
said Mr. Hodgen. We know it s a potential human life (Wheeler A10).
A big question being asked by many is who gets the information

Sexism Against Women
Sexism is prejudice, stereotyping, or discrimination, commonly towards women, on the basis of
their sex. Sexism is still present in today s society, especially against women. There are many
ways as to how people are sexist towards women. The three places that sexism against women is a
big issue: the media, pop culture and the sports industry. Some people do not allow women the
same opportunities that men have just because they are women. By creating sexismin these places,
people are treating women unfairly and with disrespect. The stereotypes that are created by women
paints a certain image of women that people believe to be true. The media is especially known for
creating unrealistic images of women.
One place where sexism against women is present is in the media. Women are portrayed a
certain way in advertisements, like TV commercials. The author of the book, book title, stated
that, according to advertisers, women drink iced tea and eat yogurt, salads, chocolate and cake ,
(DiAngelo and Sensoy, 86). This statement paints a certain stereotype of women based on the
things that they eat. It is a known fact that all women do not have the same diet and do not eat all
the same foods, so it is weird that advertisers say that all women eat the foods that they mentioned.
In today s society, social media is now a big part of the category media. An article was written on
the topic of sexism involving Twitter. The article mentions how hashtags that are used on twitter are
sexist.

Arkansas Rhetorical Analysis
The Confederacy gained support after shots rang at Ft. Sumter on xxx 1861. Before that event,
Arkansas preferred to remain neutral and hoped for a peaceful outcome to the divided country.
President Lincoln s decision to issue a call for troops signified an attempt to use violence to
preserve the union, and triggered a vote that would change Arkansas forever. The elected leaders of
Arkansas by a margin of 69 to 1 passed a disunion ordinance and chose to stand with the
Confederate States to oppose Northern aggression, unfortunately there loyalty went

Hindman assumed command of the Trans Mississippi District, an area that stretched Missouri to
Louisiana. Charged with the organization of troops to defend the states of Texas, Missouri,
Arkansas, Louisiana, and the Indian Territory, he had the appropriate authority but very few
resources. With limited forces, he imposed martial law throughout Arkansas in order to seize
munitions, gather supplies, and enforce the Conscription Act. He initiated the rationing of
goods and ordered the forming of independent Guerilla bands. Groups known as the Bands of
Tens formed from his issuance of General Orders Number 17, which called for all citizens to
assemble in groups of ten and elect a captain. The group s sole mission was to annoy and harass
the union army whenever and wherever possible, just as Hindman envisioned the Spanish doing
to Napoleon s Army. The strategic objective of this action was to slow down the Union armies
long enough to rebuild a conventional force. His efforts were relatively successful as he was
able to amass 18000 regular forces and over 5000 irregular troops. Even with limited resources, a
leader with vision and an understanding of military theory can develop a strategy, which if given
some assistance can prove to be extremely effective. His newly formed army showed promise
against Curtis s Army of the Southwest in June

Discussion of How Christians Can Put Their View of Racism...
Discussion of How Christians Can Put Their View of Racism into Action
All of the Christian teachings on racism have originally started from the teachings of the scripture.
It is because of this that Christians are aware that they have a responsibility to bring peace and
reconciliation. However not all Christians take up this responsibility, maybe this is due to the fact
that most people today go with the majority and rarely speak out as an individual.
Some people however have stood up for themselves and spoken out in an attempt to gain justice
without using violent methods to prove their points, they are known as Christian Pacifists. There
are many well known Christian Pacifists, such as Martin ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

The boycott came to an end on 20th December 1956.
For Martin Luther King, this was just the beginning of a succession of non violent protests against
the discrimination and prejudice of black people.
Desmond Tutu is an Anglican Archbishop in South Africa, and a Civil Rights Leader. He also
responded to racism using pacifism.
One of Desmond Tutu s most famous quotes was: I am puzzled about which Bible people are
reading when they suggest religion and politics don t mix . He knew that God was political; this
was because when God rescued the slaved from Egypt he led them to freedom in the Promised
Land.
Politics have lead in the past to the rich getting richer and the poor getting poorer, and when this
happened the prophet s spoke out, so Christians today should test government policies against
Christian teaching.
Like Desmond Tutu, Trevor Huddleston also stated that Christianity was totally opposed to the
system in South Africa: Christina s are not only commanded to love. We are commanded to hate
what is evil, and nothing is more evil than apartheid . Trevor Huddleston and Desmond Tutu had
been friends ever since Desmond Tutu was a small child. Desmond Tutu was impressed by the

The purpose of this experiment was to synthesize two organic dyes then observe their effective dye
strength on various synthetic and natural materials. This was achieved by means of chemical
reactions outlined below, heat to increase the reaction rate, ice baths to precipitate out the product,
vacuum filtration to isolate the product, washing with water and 95% ethanol to purify the
product, and dying of the clothe to observe dye effectiveness. The test of the effectiveness of the
dye required that the fabric absorb one wavelength and then reflect the opposing color, and then be

Moving forward, being able to strongly indicate our results through use of the mean and standard

between trials. The percentage error will also be a beneficial tool in showing how accurate and
appropriate the trial process went. This lab was also a strong introduction into using Xcel, in terms
of generating graphs and adapting to different functionalities. Although this lab felt somewhat
simulated, I felt as if it were a great starting point for setting up future labs, in terms of formatting

the object reaches one of these time slots, its distance in meters (the independent variable) was

passes, the distance the object has fallen increased exponentially. In each trial, the distance between

  • 2. Odd Stories In The Bible Throughout the Bible there are several stories that may seem odd and morally difficult to understand. Although these stories appear to be much they all have a purpose and are trying to tell us something. God works in mysterious ways, and these, odd, stories are where he began. These purposeful stories consist of; Abraham almost sacrificing Isaac, Dinah s rape, and the Potiphar s wife sexually harassing Joseph. Firstly, Abraham was promised by God that he was going to bless his family and make great nations out of his descendants (Gen. 12:1 3). God first told Abraham this when he was commanded by God to leave all that he knew to go live in an unknown land. Then, because Abraham trusted God and followed his command he was enlightened in the fact that God was going to bless him with as many descendants as there were stars (Gen. 15:5 6). Although, Abraham had no children at the time he trusted God. But his wife, Sarah, had little faith, so she told Abraham to lay with her servant, Hagar, so that he may have a child to inherit his land. Ishmael is born to Abraham from Hagar, but that wasn t Gods plan, and it didn t end up making Sarah happy. Therefore, God reminded Abraham that he will have many descendants, as for me, this is my covenant with you: You shall... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Although Abraham didn t end up actually sacrificing his only son, he would have because he knew that God knew what was best for him. • 5. Comparison Of Animal Farm And Moby Dick Animals are a staple of childhood we are surrounded by them from birth into adulthood; hence, the overwhelming mountain of stuffed animals and picture books sifted through at our transition into maturity. Notably, animals appear in a variety of works, from children s literature to classics like George Orwell s AnimalFarm and Herman Melville s Moby Dick. Recently, the scientific community has obsessed itself with identifying a clear, distinctive boundary between humans and animals, while the literary world has challenged scientific thought by blurring the boundaries between the two. In fact, several pieces of literature attempt to eradicate any similarities by presenting readers with a blend of humanand animal characters who serve a... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, in Scene Eight, Eugene O Neill introduces a true animal character: a large ape, who is the ultimate demise of Yank. In an attempt to connect with his supposed kind , Yank releases the ape and unfortunately, the ape attacks him and leaves him in the cage to die. It is an ironic death, yet symbolizes the boundary between humans and animals because an animal was able to take the life of an ever superior human. The interaction causes readers to question whether or not there is a clear boundary between humans and animals because an animal is able to take the entire essence of a human away from us: life. Gabriel GarcГa MГЎrquez comments on the abilities of humans and animals in his popular short story, A Very Old Man with Enormous Wings , by introducing readers to a humanimal: a character who is both human and animal. The character is presented as an angel with exceptional human like characteristics, so he is greatly criticized by the Church. On the other hand, the townspeople view him as a spectacle in fact, the married couple who discovered the tattered humanimal creates an enterprise based upon his differences from them. The interaction between the townspeople and the angel is one of interest, as observed in the two quotes: ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It was very high in the 19th century and nations which had not obtained independence by 1900 were determined to do so as it gave groups of subject peoples the idea of forming independent nations of their own. In 1815, the Congress of Vienna took place. This was a conference held in Vienna in Austria between ambassadors from the major powers in Europe. This conference left people under the control of local dynasts or other nations and ignored nationalism in favour of preserving the peace, however, revolutions and strong nationalistic movements during the late ... This display of unity alarmed ruling circles but had little practical impact at the time as Belgrade Serbs paid little attention to Croatian politics. The ethnic tensions that were present in Croatia in the late 19th century were accompanied by a break down in Austro Serbian relations driven by a crisis over trade. Since 1881 Austria had dominated Serbia s foreign trade which consisted mostly of pigs driven to slaughterhouses in Hungary. By 1905, 84 percent of Serbia s exports were going to Austria Hungary and 53 percent of Serbia s imports were from Austria Hungary. However, when they were at war Austria blocked Serbian pigs from entering ports on the excuse that they carried diseases. This gave the Austro Serbian war the alternate name of the Pig War . • 8. The Federal Reserve Act, The U.s. Financial System Prior to the institution of the Federal Reserve Act, the U.S. financial system s basic structure was determined by the National Banking Acts of 1863, 1864, and 1865 (Broz, 1999). The purpose of the legislation was to provide a uniform national currency and to raise revenue for the federal government during wartime (Broz, 1999). While effective in its main purposes, it was flawed in the fact that the increase of available currency had little to no effect on consumer demand which led to large seasonal swings in interest rates and banking panics (Friedman Schwartz, 168 169). In an attempt to rectify the shortcomings of the National Banking System, government turned to the New York Clearinghouse Association, purportedly known as the first central bank. Originally responsible for the settlement of payments between financial institutions, it was chosen because it was the only source at the time that had the ability to provide funds during high demand periods through a discount window or an open market operation (Broz, 1999). In the end, it failed to maintain an adequate amount of liquid reserves to counteract the monetary crisis s that ensued during the agricultural harvest cycles, when currency demands accelerated. In response to the most detrimental Panics of 1873, 1893, and 1907, a faction of wealthy bankers created the concept of The Federal Reserve, an entity that would serve as the central banking system. • 10. A Historical Survey Of Architecture And Urbanism A Historical Survey of Architecture and Urbanism: from Antiquity to the Middle Ages The Houses of Roman Italy Introduction This paper evaluates the design and structures of the Roman houses since the antiquity era to the Middle Ages. The paper digs deep into the houses that the Romans built and compares several factors that give relative argument base for the entire paper. It is outlined that most Roman houses were built in respect to the wealth and influence of individuals within the society. This analysis gives all the facts related to the above topic and tries to undercover the reason as to why class was a consistent factor within the society. It can be argued that the design and structures of the Roman houses were proposed in respect to the wealth and position of an individual in the society (Macdonald, 1007). There was no specific that was to be followed when coming up with different designs. Some of the most prestigious houses within the community were inhabited by the wealthy persons. This identity was used to weigh individual; performance in both the local and external performances. The paper also introduces the destinations and locations that most of these Roman houses were built. It presents a chronological argument on why the Roman houses existed like this all through. The mental health market is growing and is continuing to be a hot topic, an app that places control in the hands of the customer sounds viable. Group 37 made it clear how Millennials would feel about their data being available on mobile, but I would have been interested to understand how Group 37 would have overcome the obstacle, via their branding, about how people would feel about being implanted with a chip. I think these challenges could have been covered if the slide would have been narrated. в—ЏEarly adopters were depicted in the Business Model Canvas, but it would have been great to hear why Medical Students and young music and sports stars would have taken to the App and why they would have been advocates of the business. в—ЏAs specified in the proposal, narration wasn t recorded over every single slide. в—ЏThe brand mission and purpose were unique, but I felt it would have been interesting to understand how MindSight would have been positioned and would appeal to the target audience, creating an authentic experience. The slide was cut off at the end, which again was a shame as I wanted to hear more. How could this have been improved? в—ЏMore supporting evidence about how the App would disrupt the market would have made the proposal more compelling. в—ЏI liked the idea of the content marketing strategy, I could how the videos of the personas would be engaging. This opportunity is hinted at when he first approaches the two women sitting on the porch and turns his back to them to face the sunset: He swung both his whole and his short arm up slowly so that they indicated an expanse of sky and his figure formed a crooked cross. However, to make that happen first he needed to produce a car that was affordable by everyone. In 1908, he achieved that with the production of the Model T. The Model T revolutionized the automotive industry. The Model T was the first affordable car for the masses. Its affordability came from several properties. First, the Model T featured all interchangeable parts. Parts in one Model T were exactly the same as the parts in another model T made in the same year. Second, the Model T was the first car to contain vanadium steel parts, which were stronger, more dependable and lighter weight than previous steel pieces and they could be manufactured easier. Third, the Ford Company was the first company to employ a moving assembly linewhich allowed them to assemble the cars faster than anyone else. In the early 1900s, the automotive industry was a burgeoning business with many competitors trying to out do each other. Companies rose and fell on a regular basis. By 1903, 214 different companies had arisen in America to manufacture the automobile. However, by 1904, at least 84 of those had either ceased to exist or changed to a different line of work. Further, the cable speaks of an intention to establish the closest possible relations with the US, while always having regard to New Zealand s primary connection with the British Commonwealth. In making his position clear, Fraser proposed that the New Zealand government send to Washington a Minister of the Crown on special mission . The importance of this cable as a whole, particularly the final proposal, cannot be understated and is exemplified by the regard afforded to it by historians. Wood refers to this cable as the most important single document in the formation of New Zealand foreign policy. McIntyre speaks of this moment as when the phase of dual dependency began . Lissington looks at this proposal as a new phase in New Zealand s foreign policy . The basis of detective fictions is a well developed and observant character that is able to walk the audience and outside perspectives through the case. In this case, Arthur Conan Doyle utilizes the observant perspective of Watson to describe the actions of Sherlock Holmes. Doyle characterizes Sherlock through underscoring vocabulary and the first person understanding of Watson. A series of analytical language and descriptive literary devices such as juxtaposition to portray the effects of Irene Adleron the near perfect character of Sherlock Holmes. Doyle begins the passage by emphasizing THE woman to Sherlock Holmesin order to introduce an impacting character within the selective and closed off life of Sherlock. The emphasis on THE resembles her as an overbearing character that has establish a lasting impact on Sherlock as even he does not mention her under any other name. The lack of emphasis on her name, but rather her mark on Sherlock, is utilized to present an ambivalent feeling within Sherlock in which he can t identify her as a flaw or test of himself. Doyle proceeds by clarifying the idea of her overbearing image by characterizing her as the dominant image for the whole of his sex in order to reemphasize her presence in Sherlock s highly selective and egoistic memory. Furthermore, Doyle utilizes the close relationship of Watson to clarify that it was not any emotion akin to love in order to introduce the idea of reason rather than emotion, specifically love. In the short story George and the Jewels by Jane Smiley, the main character Abby goes through a transition from disliking horses to understanding them. At the end, it shows her being in a relaxed and calm state. Abby is remembering her mare that she tamed back then, wishing to see the horse again. This point of view is important to the story because the reader can understand how she connects with the horse, but unlike her father, she sees them as smart animals and compares them to dogs. By viewing the story in first person, the reader is able to understand Abby s thoughts and feelings in depth about her changing emotions with horses. There is a similar short passage that connects these ideas. Black Beauty uses first person narratives to interpret the new environment and how the horse feels about the changes. In quote 1, it states, I had of course been used to a halter and a headstall, and to be led about in the fields and lanes quietly, but now I was to have a bit and bridle, my master gave me some oats as usual, and after a good deal of coaxing he got the bit into my mouth, and the bridle fixed, but it was a nasty thing . It is comparing how Black Beauty used to roam around the field, but now his master started to put on riding gear. The horse felt discomfort when he was first introduced to the bit. The point of view is important because the reader is viewing how Black Beauty went through a new experience that was uncomfortable to get used to. • 21. Stephen King Rhetorical Analysis Additionally, King builds his credibility with the utilization of ethos in his text in order to convince them of his argument. By appealing to the readers ethics, they can see how trustworthy King s words are and then can let themselves be persuaded by his matter of fact tone and professionalism in writing. King is a realist, which means that he almost always represents things as they really are, which profoundly helps establish his honest persona. Most of Stephen King s writing represents more than one tenet, as his stories that he tells about his childhood and road to recovery from drug addiction and alcoholism can be seen as not only pathos, but and etho as well, as these stories help the readers to understand what kind of person he is, and how he accomplished all of his success despite a couple of major roadblocks. This is why it can be seen that King uses pathos most heavily in his writing, by telling vivid stories, etc. in order to touch upon human emotion towards human experiences/traits, while also creating a strong voice in his writing as well. The overlapping of these appeals help support the ethics and sensibility of King s work. There are scores of times where it can be clearly identified where ethos have been used in his writing. For example, King says I m a slow reader, but i usually get through seventy or eighty books a year, mostly fiction. I don t read in order to study the craft; i read because i like to read. Similarly, I don t read to study the art of fiction, but simply because I like stories Every book you pick up has its own lesson or lessons, and quite often the bad books have more to teach than the good ones (King, pg 145) This helps to support the idea that writing is learned through reading, and also is learned through the mistakes of other writers. There is no better way to learn than to look at a piece of writing that has some minor or even major flaws and to analyze the piece to see what the issue is, and learn from their mistake to better your own writing in the future. Another one of King s main arguments is that no writer is perfect. There are always things that you can do to make your writing even better, no matter how small the adjustment may be. In this battle, the Athenian naval superiority was lost as Sparta was able to use gold, sent from the Persian king Cyrus, to build a fleet rivaling the Athenian. The battle ended tragically for the Athenians. After this battle, Persian officially entered the contest and threw its naval support behind Sparta, hastening the inevitable end of the conflict. The conflict ended suddenly in 405. The remaining Athenian fleet was caught unawares at Hellespont and destroyed. This signified the first time in a century that Athens did not have control of the Aegean. Sparta blockaded land routes, thus preventing resupply to Athens. By 404, Athens capitulated. Sparta offered Athens reasonable terms, given the time. No soldiers were slaughtered, and no temples were razed. The Athenian Long Walls, as well as the defenses of the Piraeus, were demolished. These two structures had long been a thorn in the side to Sparta. The Athenians acknowledged Spartan rule just for a single year, until a democratic faction was able to regain control of the city because of the injustice of the Sparta backed Athenian oligarchy that had been put in ... • 37. Analysis Of The Film Daisies The 1966 Czechoslovakian film Daisies was released two years before what was known as the Prague Spring, where a reformist Czech leader loosened up restrictions in the Communist dominated nation. The result was the 1968 invasion led by the Soviet Union that crushed this little rebellion and firmly re established Soviet control of the nation (Encyclopaedia Britannica). That puts a context on this film and gives some reason to the madness that the film portrays of two young women who decide to spend the day being bad, which means doing things that are against the grain of normal society. Nothing criminal happens with the girls (well, maybe some trespassing and stealing some farmer s crops) but the point is that they want to do things that aren t really normal for the day. These two girls, both named Maria, are probably about twenty years old or so, and therefore would have been born immediately after the end of World War II. Though their youth would have shielded them a bit, it was a time of great transition for the country as it was under Nazi occupation first before being taken over and held by the Soviet Union. They probably would have grown up hearing about the great freedoms that their parents experienced before the war when they were a free nation and as a result, that seed would have grown within their minds that they too wanted that freedom of expression denied to them under the Worker s Paradise of Soviet Communism. • 38. Figurative Language In The Scarlet Ibis It was in the clove of seasons, summer was dead but autumn had not yet been born, that the ibis lit in the bleeding tree (James Hurst, The Scarlet Ibis ). This line of figurative language from Hurst s short story shows the setting and how summer is gone, but autumn has not started yet. In literature, authors use figurative language to emphasize setting or to add to characterization. In The Scarlet Ibis , Doodle is a six year old disabled boy who is unable to walk. Brother , the narrator, works hard to get Doodle to be able to things that normal kids do, but the pride he has for himself does not want to deal with the embarrassment of having a disabled brother. In The Scarlet Ibis author James Hurst uses figurative language to establish the theme of how pride can blind oneself from the things that really matter. The metaphors used in the short story reveal to the reader the insecurity the brother has within himself. The brother works hard with Doodle to try to get him to walk, and once they succeed he feels great confidence in himself. Doodle struggles to move great distances, so getting him to walk further develops the brother pride. After he succeeds in getting Doodle to walk, he learns something new about his relationship with Doodle as well as learning that pride is a wonderful, terrible thing, a seed that bears two vines, life and death (5). The pride Brother has for himself causes him to push Doodle to work harder to achieve the goal of walking. He tells himself he is doing this for Doodle, that he wants Doodle to feel good about himself. However, the brother wants to feel good about himself by developing a non disabled brother. While Doodle does start to walk, the reader sees how the brother disregards Doodles feelings in the process. Like seeds, which are the start of any vegetable, plant or flower, pride is the start of a life, or a vine, that can lead to one of two outcomes, one that leads to a more self confident life, and another that causes pain and suffering in others. Through the use of metaphors the author reveals the narrator s own insecurity and how it causes him to make decisions for the wrong reasons. Furthermore, Hurst s use of personification also adds to the theme, by revealing ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 39. An Analysis Of Euripides The Suppliants In The Suppliants, Euripides wrote, The people cannot form proper judgements and therefore cannot rightly direct a state . Euripides is living in the midst of democracy in Athens; therefore his quote is a critique of what is happening around him. In his quote, he is taking an anti democratic stance towards the question of who is fit to rule. Euripides believes only one or few people should rule a state, as not all are qualified or have the proper judgement to do so. However, people do rule the state, without having to meet any arbitrary requirements to be fit to rule. The term proper judgement is highly subjective and the notion that only a few have the ability to rule is simply paternalistic. The relative success of ancient Athenian and contemporary Swiss direct democracyshow that people do have the ability to form proper judgments. It was Aristotlewho once said man is a political animal , so it is in human nature to be politically involved. In opposition, Platodescribes the grave consequences of placing the power into the one or the few in his ideal yet authoritarian state. There are many issues with Euripides quote. Firstly, the term proper judgment is extremely abstract. For instance, Machiavelli and Kant would have very different ideas on what proper judgment may be, but both are thought to be notable political philosophers. The decisions rulers make will always be criticized by one group of people, so it is difficult to say for certain if someone meets ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The UNFCCC considers that non Annex I countries will need to produce higher greenhouse global emissions to achieve their social goals and meet their development needs. Essentially, the Kyoto Protocol tries to integrate developing countries in this commitment of reducing gas emissions, but without establishing a particular reduction target as it does in the case of developed countries.
