Industry Essay
Writing an essay on the topic of "Industry" can be quite challenging due to the vast scope and
complexity of the subject matter. The term "industry" encompasses a wide range of sectors
including manufacturing, technology, agriculture, healthcare, finance, and more. Narrowing
down the focus to a specific aspect of industry requires thorough research and critical analysis.
One of the difficulties lies in the need to strike a balance between providing broad context and
delving into specific details. It's essential to provide an overview of the historical, economic, and
social significance of the industry while also addressing current trends, challenges, and future
prospects. This requires extensive reading and comprehension of various scholarly articles,
reports, and case studies.
Furthermore, crafting a coherent and persuasive argument requires synthesizing diverse
viewpoints and data sources. It involves formulating a thesis statement that encapsulates the
main argument of the essay and structuring the content in a logical manner to support that
argument. This process demands clarity of thought and effective communication skills to convey
complex ideas in a clear and concise manner.
Another challenge is ensuring the essay remains relevant and up-to-date. The landscape of
industry is constantly evolving due to technological advancements, globalization, regulatory
changes, and shifting consumer preferences. Therefore, staying abreast of the latest
developments and incorporating them into the essay adds another layer of complexity.
Moreover, writing an industry essay requires critical thinking skills to evaluate the implications
of various industrial practices on society, the environment, and the economy. It involves
examining ethical considerations, sustainability initiatives, and the impact of industry on
communities and individuals.
In conclusion, writing an essay on the topic of "Industry" demands extensive research, critical
analysis, effective communication, and a deep understanding of the subject matter. It is a
challenging but rewarding endeavor that offers insights into one of the fundamental pillars of
modern civilization.

White Tailed Deer Research Paper
White tailed deer (Odocoileus virginianus) have historical significance throughout
the state of Ohio. Ohio s ancient civilizations relied heavily on white tailed deer for
food, tools, and clothing. Deer were attracted to the region because of the
agricultural practices of Native Americans such as growing corn and the prevalence
of hard mast . The population of white tailed deerwas healthy prior to European
settlement, as predators such as the North American cougar (Puma concolor), eastern
timber wolf (Canis lupus lycaon), and native americans kept the population under
control. There are an estimated 500,000 white tailed deer in Ohio, the species can be
found in all 88 counties. Populations today are managed by a regulated hunting
season. (Hulbert 1910) The objective of the study is to determine the age, sex, and
distinguishing characteristics of white tailed deer that are in both areas... Show more

The total amount of deer seen on camera one was twenty total. (Fig. 3) Camera one
was in a secluded area of the forest and captured two different bucks. One was
believed to be a couple years old with a small set of antlers while the second buck
was much larger both in body and antler size is believed to be older. The deer

experienced interference from bypassers who noticed that the cameras were there.

Ender s Game Response
Ender s Game
Andrew Ender Wiggin was a completely normal boy. Was being a key word. When
Ender was small, the government installed a monitor on the back of his neck so
they could observe his actions and judge whether he was fit to join the army.
Decades, maybe a whole century before, aliens, called buggers , attacked the planet.
Humans were outgunned, outnumbered, and a sure defeat seemed to be on the way.
If it weren t for the best general in history of earth, mankind would have been
destroyed. The government is positive the buggers will come back, so they take
certain children at the age of six, and drive them mad. When Ender turned six, he
was chosen to join the army. He was thought of as the one , the best of the best. But
once you re in the army, you aren t a child anymore... Ender s Game starts on earth
at the home and school of Ender Wiggin. Later, once Ender is chosen, he s taken up
to a space station to be trained into a soldier. The space station is in constant motion,

Ender is the most innocent looking, sweet little boy ever. But he is more correctly
a genius, bad to the bone soldier that could ever be chosen for the program. As for
Peter, Ender s brother, he s a terrifying monster... until he thinks no one s watching.
One night, after tormenting Ender, he thought the little boy was asleep. I m sorry,
He said. I m sorry, I know how it feels. I m sorry, I m your brother. I love you. You
really can t judge anyone in Ender s Game by what they do, you need to know
more because they always turn around and do something completely out of their
character. I also learned that your best friends are the one s you can count on one
hand. Ender trusts so few people, and he s right to. His sister Valentine, his Launchy
friends Alai and Shen, and his Salamander Army friend Petra are Ender s trustworthy
friends. Those are only two of many different lessons one can learn from Ender s
The Purpose Of Motivation In Forge
Motivation is the reason behind a character s action or behavior. In Forge, the main
character behind Curzon, his motivation behind deceiving the army is his will to
survive. He wants to survive so he can finally find Isabel, his friend who freed him
from the British Prison. I paused. If he thought I was was a soldier, then a soldier I
would pretend tobe. The truth was dangerous. (16).
A protagonist is the central character. They sometimes are called the hero by the
audience. In Forge, I believe that Curzon is the protagonist. He wants to ensure that
everyone gets the freedom that they deserve. Let me ask you something. We re
fighting for freedom right? What if a king made bad laws? Laws so unnatural that a
country broke them declaring it s freedom? (64).
Suspense is the feeling of anticipation that something risky is about to happen. The
purpose of using this type of anxiety in literature is to make readers more
concerned about characters, and to form sympathetic association with them.In
Forge, Curzon is out in the woods late at night and spots a shadowy figure in the
distance. He doesn t realize that is is his friend Eben at first but when he does, he
notices that he has bruises and blood on his face. I gasped. Eben s left eye was
puffy and darkened with blood. His mouth was swollen too, and bleeding, as was his
nose and the knuckles on his right hand. (102).
Mood is the literary element that evokes certain feelings in the reader through words

Case Study Of Kellogg s
Introduction:
Kellogg is $14.2 billion American multinational food manufacturing organization
based in Battle Creek, Michigan, USA. The food manufacturing giant has
production units in 18 countries and it markets more than 1,500 products in over
180 countries all over the world. Over the time Kellogg has come out as a successful
brand known for its packaged breakfast food items.
Kellogg entered India in 1995. On its advent, it made another classification of marked
breakfast cereal items. From that point forward the voyage for Kellogg s has been a
long way from simple, really it has been tough to the point that it has ended up to be
one of the greatest brand disappointments in India. Kellogg s under its umbrella brand

A Multi System Disease Of Unknown Etiology
Sarcoidosis is a multi system disease of unknown etiology. The diagnosis is
confirmed when non caseating granulomas are identified in tissue biopsies,
predominantly from the lung parenchyma or the mediastinal lymph nodes and is
supported by compatible clinical and radiological features. [1] Cardiac manifestations
may occur in isolation or may precede, follow or occur concurrently with the
involvement of the lungs and other organs. All components of the heartmay
potentially be involved. The most common are conduction abnormalities leading to
bradyarrhythmias and syncope, ventricular tachycardias and the development of
congestive heart failure. [2, 3]
The location and extent of granulomatous infiltration accounts for variations in

[5, 6] Japanese Ministry of Health (JMH) published criteria are the current
established method for non invasive clinical diagnosis. [2, 5] Imaging modalities
suggested by the JMH criteria include gallium 67 scintigraphy and late gadolinium

10% of patients with sarcoidosis present with clinical evidence of myocardial
involvement based on the above criteria while autopsy studies indicate that cardiac
involvement is present in up to 25 50% of cases implying that there is a significant
proportion of sub clinical cardiac sarcoidosis not detected with the existing criteria. [1,
7] Nuclear imaging modalities have shown significant advances and rapid growth in
the field of the diagnosis and monitoring of cardiac involvement in sarcoidosis.
Promising results show high sensitivity for identifying pathophysiological activity at
an early stage before structural changes have occurred as well as value of
reproducible activity quantification when emphasizing in therapy monitoring.
Although gallium 67 scintigraphy has traditionally been used in sarcoidosis patients,
cardiac positron emission tomography (PET) along with myocardial perfusion scans
have shown superiority that mostly includes higher sensitivity in detecting active
Support For Removing The Bereavement Exclusion
Controversies Support for removing the bereavement exclusion Koukopoulos and
Sani (2013) found that in ancient times the core of depression with mixed features
consisted of the following excitatory symptoms: agitation, anxiety, anger, racing and
crowded thoughts, irritability, and rage. The DSM 5 criterion for mixed features
mentions only two of the seven symptoms (Koukopoulos Sani, 2013). In more
recent literature as referenced by the DSM 5 mood disorders work group, it was
found that some of the authors did not find any of the proposed DSM 5 symptoms
for depressionwith mixed features diagnostically relevant. The first two diagnostic
criteria proposed by the DSM 5 are euphoria and grandiosity, which were found to
be too rare to be considered important because they are so infrequently occurring in
a small amount of depressive patients (Koukopoulos Sani, 2013). Additionally, there
was weak evidence to support the DSM 5 definition of mixed features for
depression historically and scientifically. Overlapping criteria such as psychomotor
agitation, irritability, and mood liability are found to be the core features of mixed
depression. Due to this criterion, it is possible that many patients with mixed
depression will most likely be diagnosed and treated inadequately. Instead, the
evidence found supports the clinical validity for an alternative definition for agitated
depression and mixed depression (Koukopoulos Sani, 2013). According to Zisook et
al (2013),
How Is Jimi Hendrix Informative Speech
Good afternoon, I ve come here today to present the award for most influential
musician to a man who turned the world of music on it s head, James Marshall
Hendrix, or as he is better known Jimi Hendrix. Born November 27, 1942 to James
Allen Hendrix and Lucille Jeter began playing guitar at age 15. Drawing influences
from bluesguitarists such as B.B. King, Muddy Waters and Albert King Hendrix
was able to develop his own style of blues guitar playing. His musical career was
put on halt when he turned 19 and was forced to enlist in the Army to avoid jail
time. After 1 year of service Hendrix was honorably discharged and he was again
able to continue his career as a guitarist and songwriter. Hendrix moved to Tennessee

Chandler convinced Hendrix to move to London where to two of them recruited
musicians to form The Jimi Hendrix Experience. During their time in London the
Jimi Hendrix Experience was seen performing by members of The Beatles, The
Who, The Rolling Stones and Cream as well as many others. These already
established musicians were awestruck by the pure talent and stage presence that
Hendrix had. By this time Hendrix had developed a cult following, playing sold
out night clubs and he soon recorded Hey Joe, The Wind Cries Mary and Purple
Haze, some of his most popular songs. These songs were able to gain top 10 status
in the UK and were later featured on the Jimi Hendrix Experience s first full length
album Are You Experienced?. A month after its release The Jimi Hendrix
Experience Played its first major US show at the Monterey Pop Festival in
California. There were an estimated 200,000 people in who attended the 3 day long
festival. When Jimi Hendrix took the stage the American crowd was stunned, this
was the first time most of them had seen a performer as flamboyant as Hendrix and
who played guitar with his rough and dirty
How Is Harry Potter Selfish
Hogwarts is full of magic, but it always seems like there is something bad
happening, even if they can paralyze someone with a word. Harry Potter (the main
character in J.K. Rowling s Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets ) and
everyone at his school is being terrorized by a mythical creature. In the story Harry
does bold things and is very curious. Harry s first trait is that he is bold. One
example of that is when he broke out of his uncle s house. Harry couldn t believe it
he was free. He rolled down the window... looked back at the shrinking rooftops of
Privet Drive. Uncle Vernon, Aunt Petunia, and Dudley were all hanging,
dumbstruck out of Harry s bedroom window. That is the first clue to harry being
bold. Breaking out of a house is one thing, but talking with giant spiders is another
feat entirely. Harry and Ron got taken away by giant spiders to the king of spiders,
Aragog. ...spiders. Not tiny spiders like those surging over the leaves below. Spiders
the size of carthorses, eight eyed, black, hairy, gigantic... Harry fell to the ground on
all fours as the spider released him. Ron and Fang thudded down next to him. Fang

FSD As Reflected In The Film Orgasm, Inc.
In recent years a mysterious disease called Female Sexual Dysfunction (FSD) has
captivated the marketplace and the general public. FSD has managed to cause mass
hysteria across the nation as women fear that they are abnormal or even diseased
because of the broad definition of sexuality being perpetuated by mass media. The
documentary OrgasmInc. explores the social construction of FSD, the role of drug
companies in defining FSD, and the resulting exploitation of women and the drug
market by the pharmaceutical companies.
Liz Canner, the filmmaker, consistently undermines the medical basis of FSD as she
interviews various companies, experts, and even women who believe they have FSD.
Many
symptoms of FSD include unfulfilled wants and desires, which have ... Show more

The medicalization of such a social problem and the broad symptoms of FSD are
in part due to role of pharmaceutical companies in defining the disease itself. Liz
Canner asks a representative of the pharmaceutical company VIVUS how they can
make a drug for such a new, ambiguous disease and is shocked by her response. The
representative talked about how VIVUS defines the disease, suggesting that the
disease is to be defined and interpreted by pharmaceutical companies rather than by
unbiased medical professionals. A study done on FSD that made headlines across
America claimed that 43% of women showed symptoms of FSD, yet the researcher
who made these claims was being paid by a drug company. The researcher had
originally said that many of these women who fall into the infamous 43% actually
showed normal sexual responses. By the time the incorrect statement had been
retracted, it was already too late because the media had relentlessly pushed the
statistic. Pharmaceutical companies
The Problem Of Racism In Public Schools
Another problem that America faces, is a lack of education in public schools about
racism that has occurred in the past. Therefore, to curtail the problem of racism and
oppression in the public school system, schools should teach children about the brutal
American past that inflicted racism and oppression toward certain ethnic
backgrounds and people of different races. The United Stateshas had extensive
conflicts with people that are not of white origin. From the early part of history in the
United States, starting with the Native Americans, the United States government took
away rights and freedom from the Native Americans, all for the sake of the land.
Eventually, after the United States gained control of Native American land they soon
needed individuals to exploit the lands and the government allowed slaves or
indentured servants to solve the land from 1619 to 1865 (History.com). Accordingly,
the United States has experienced an extended chronicle of oppression toward
different ethnicity and people of color. Another case of the United States oppressing
people is, during World War II the American government ordered and made Japanese
people live internment camps; the regime intended that whole Japanese people posed
a hazard to the country. From slavery and internment camps, the United States has
inflicted many lives of many different ethnicities. Thus, teaching kids in elementary
schools about American history is important as it informs a greater consciousness of
Stages Of Grief
Sooner or later, everyone will experience loss; it s an inevitable part of life. Whether
it s losing a relationship, a job, or even more tragic a loved one, no one can escape it.
A very important part of bearing with a loss is grieving. There are five stages in
which grief can be categorized in: denial, anger, bargaining, depression, and finally
acceptance. In Seamus Heaney s Mid term Break , and the narrator and his family
bear with the loss of a loved one. In Sylvia Path s The Jailer the narrator goes
through the painful and significant loss of her marriage. In both poems the characters
affected by the loss of something important to them and go through the stages of grief
differently, proving, that grief is unique for every person.

The narrator starts his grieving path in denial. The narrator states I sat all morning
in the college sick bay giving the description of him sitting all morning in doing
nothing at all (line 1). He was not crying, he was not talking to anyone he just sat
there staring into the air. Another detail that shows that the narrator is in denial is
when he states the ambulance arrived / with the corpse (14 15). It is a very cold
thing to say because it s his little brother in the ambulance not just a strange, and he
just refers to him as a corpse. Further explaining that he is in denial because he
cannot believe it s his brother. The father in the poem is one of the best examples
of how everyone deals with grief in a different way. The narrator explains that as
soon as he got home he saw his father in tears and how strange it was for his father
to cry especially in funerals. The narrator then states, [My father] had always taken
funerals in his stride meaning that funerals never really bothered his father (5). The
way the narrator s mother reacts to the death of her four year old son, further
supports the fact that everyone grieves differently. When the narrator introduces his
mother in the poem he states, [She] coughed out angry tearless sighs (13). In the
contrary from the narrator s father, the narrator s mother is not even shedding a tear.
Which makes it very obvious that her first step in grieving was
Essay on The History and Development of Rock and Roll
History of Rock and Roll Loud, soothing, meaningful, and deep, rock music has
many characteristics. These characteristics are ones that rock music fans
appreciate. But, many people have different preferences of music, such as pop,
rap, country, and other genres. Although there are several types of music, most
modern music comes back to the foundation of rock and roll. Many artists have
been influenced by the heart wrenching power of rock music. Most people that
enjoy rock music do not know how rock started. It is a genre that has evolved over
the years. Rock and roll was built on the foundation of jazz, blues, country, and folk
music. The Les Paul electric guitar was also a big contributor in music not just rock.

The main artist to capitalize on combining country with blues and jazz was the
king of rock and roll, better known as Elvis Presley. He had the country twang
along with the bluesy deep message and jazz type feel, which started the music we
all know today as rock and roll. The main innovation in rock was the electric guitar.
It brought a loud and free spirited feeling that came with rocking out. It loosened up
the music which brought many different styles and genres within rock. It
broadened the horizons to rock and roll letting people express themselves through
their music. This rock craze spilled overseas into Britain where many great artists
were born. The British Invasion happened in the mid 1960 s when bands moved
from the United Kingdom to perform in America. The two main bands coming out
of this time period were the Rolling Stones and the Beatles. Both left lasting
impressions on American music. Led Zeppelin, The Who, and The Animals were
also a part of this important time period in rock and roll history. In this era most of
America s top music charts all topped out with rock and roll songs coming from
Britain. Some notable songs are House of the Rising Sun, by The Animals, Want to
Hold Your Hand by The Beatles, and many others. Even though the British Invasion
took the United States by storm, it was just the beginning. Through rock history there
were many different bands over a

The Tipages And Advantages Of Calcium Silicate Bricks
Calcium silicate bricks are also called sand lime. They are often confused with
concrete bricks but these are much harder and would not scrape quite so easily.
Calcium silicate bricks are manufactured by mixing lime, sand or crushed
silicaceous together, with enough water to allow the mixture completely hydrated
to be moulded under high pressure. The bricks are then moved in and steam in
autoclaved for three to fourteen hours to speed the chemical hardening. Pigments
can be added during the mixing stage. In their natural state, calcium silicate bricks
are white to a creamy off white colour, but the addition of ochres (buff or cream
colours), iron oxides (pink, red, brown or black) or chrome oxide (green) can enable
a very wide variety of colours to be produced. It easily to cut thus increase its

about in 200 1000kg/m3, but it is rigid and sustainable for use of building material.

What Is The Difference Between Phonetics And Phonology
English linguistics has many specialties. Whereas semantics about sentence
interpretation and syntax is about sentence formation, phonetics and phonology cover
the field of sentence utterance. Phonetics is concerned with how the sounds are
produced, transmitted and perceived whereas phonology is concerned with how
sounds function in relation to each other in a language. In what follows we will
discuss the meaning of both phoneticsand phonologyand show the difference between
them in detail. Phonetics can be describe as the study of the minimal units that make
up a language, and it is also a branch of linguistics that deals with the sounds of
speech and their combination, production, description, and representation by written
symbols ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The similarity between them is that they are both a branches of linguistics and the
two is dealing with the sounds structure and human speech sounds. Moreover, they
are used in language development, mostly in development of transcription and
orthography, and it also said that phonology begins from where phonetics ends which
means that phonology is a continuation of phonetics. Therefore, without one the other
cannot exist. So when we move to the difference between them what will be found is
that Phonetics is the term that for the description and classification of speech sounds
whereas Phonology is the term used for the study of the speech sounds that is used in
a particular
The Pros And Cons Of The Western Union
Why has Western Union been able to adapt to severe disruptions and survive over so
many years?
It never confused the business it was in with the way it conducted its business. At its
core, Western Union was about facilitating person to person communications and
money transfers whether via telegraph, wireless networks, phone, or the Internet. We
always saw ourselves as a communications company, says President Christina Gold.
Contrast that with Kodak. By defining itself too narrowly as a product company all
those years, it was headed for a fall.
Kodak teetered on the precipice and with it stands some of the other once great
businesses of the 20th century, from autos to newspapers. They were immensely
successful and proud, but their very success made it difficult to adjust. The more
successfully you use a way of working, the stronger your culture is, which is a great
strength right up to the time when you need to change, says Clayton Christensen, a
professor at Harvard Business School.

Then came the iPod, a must have device for music fans, and iTunes, an online

making iPod and iTunes work with Windows PCs, Apple broke out of selling only

essence, it switched from being a great designer of computer products into a great
designer of consumer experiences delivered via devices and services. Now music
represents 44% of Apple s revenues, and an even larger share of profits. If Kodak
focused on the consumer experience they provided rather than the actual product the

The Monetary System in Early America
The support, which Mr. Franklin s Modest Enquiry has raised, for a large addition of
paper bills, to the current circulating coinage, is alarming in of itself, and, added to
the quickness with which the commoner entrusts himself to Mr. Franklin s opinions,
has the opportunity to bring ruin and poverty upon our nation. His arguments for
such a hasty addition are hinged upon the fact that this nation is now in want of money
. Is this true, fellow countrymen? Are we not a prosperous nation, by the blessings
of Him who sanctifies us with His dedications? Do we not receive pilgrims, from
the shores of the eastern world, who wish to share in our fortune? The honorable Mr.
Franklin no doubt intends well with his illustrious pamphlet; however, I find myself
obligated to explain the failings in his otherwise eloquent Enquiry. Firstly, Mr.
Franklin s opening consideration reads as follows, A great Want of Money in any
Trading Country, occasions Interest to be at a very high Rate. As a foundation for this
assertion, he argues that men, in a time that occasions severe measures, are forced to
demand high interest, even to eight and ten percent. In his resulting argument, Mr.
Franklin has made a hazardous error in overlooking an ostensibly obvious exemption
to his initial statement. Especially in times of monetary stress, the value of
competition is realized. For, of course, during such times, money lenders experience
an increase in business, and, desiring to surpass their competition,

The Role Of Refugees In Inside Out And Back Again
The universal refugee experience of fleeing and finding home relates to the title
Inside Out and Back Again in the way it shows how refugees tend to feel when
fleeing and finding new homes, as well as how it is shown in HГЎ s story. HГЎ, for

independent, and strong willed. When she comes to her new home, she eventually

Metaphors In Their Eyes Were Watching God
This novel is the story of Janie Crawford s quest for love, told, as noted prior, as a

example, love and marriage, discourse and hush, and gender parts. Zora Neale
Hurston makes a radiant showing of making what men like Joe Starks felt the run of

Their Eyes Were Watching Godis a content lavishly invested with importance and
reason which utilizes idyllic dialect and folkloric symbolism to pass on its
messages. Hurston utilizes numerous symbols and metaphors as a part of Their
Eyes Were Watching God to add to Janie s story. Symbols stand for, speak to, or
recommend something else. A metaphor, in any case, is a more interesting
methods of expression containing a suggested examination, in which a statement
or expression conventionally and fundamentally utilized for one thing is
connected to an alternate. One of the common metaphors in the novel is the
picture of the skyline. As Janie ascensions the pear tree to see what exists around
her, she sees the skyline. The skyline additionally plays a part at dusk, a period
when the patio sitters sit outside toward the end of a working day to watch the sun
set. Janie needs to make an excursion to the skyline, and her trip turns into a
primary metaphor in the story. At dawn, Janie goes not far off to the train station to
meet and wed Tea Cake, trusting that this experience will take her to the skyline.
The skyline is an image of Janie s long lasting quest for happiness. Toward the end
of the story, Pheoby is on edge to look for her own particular skyline with her

The Pros And Cons Of The Holocaust
What does the Holocaust mean to you? Some would say mass genocide, the
extermination of the Jews or some may not be able to define it at all. The
Holocaust one of mankind s worst atrocities committed in the past one hundred
years, full of the thirteen years of prejudice and mistreatment that was endorsed by
the fascist ideals. Over twelve million people perished due to this mass genocide of
all races, ages, classes, and creeds. However, for some ignorance is bliss. Some do
not acknowledge these atrocities against the human race caused by their own it is a
lie! They shout. They feel dignified for their supposed superior thoughts. Although
people are able to have their own rights to thought and speech, their opinions are
filled with hate, ignorance, and deceit. This is why the Holocaustdid happen.
The main definition as to what the Holocaust is defined by the opening of the
death camps from 1939 to 1945. However, the true definition is based on when the
oppressive regime of the Nazi Party closed in on those deemed as the Ubermensch ,
unworthy of life and existence. The NDSAP created the first scheme of the Aktion
T4 Plan killing all disabled, homosexuals, gypsies, alcoholics and mentally ill
between the ages of 16 49. They used the following methods: Phenol injections,
starvation, and carbon monoxide poisoning and sedative overdose, which murdered
over 30,000 individuals. Over 200,000 individuals were mass sterilized to avoid their
unwanted genetics to be spread.
The Four Stages Of REM Sleep
Typically, sleep occurs in five recurring sleep stages. Of these, four are stages
leading up to REM sleep. REM sleep is an abbreciation for rapid eye movement.
Neurotransmitters act differently on neurons in the brain, causing the mind to be
awake or asleep. The neurotransmitters serotonin and norepinephrine keep the brain
functioning properly when awake, however are less present when sleeping.
Adenosine, a chemical, also is linked to drowsiness when present in the blood and
is broken up when sleeping. Beta waves are the waves which occur in our waking
state. Stage one of sleep involves the closing of the eyes and drowsiness, occurring
for 5 10 minutes depending on the person. During this stage a person will experience

stay consentrated on task the next day. Researchers believe that neurons repair
themselves when you sleep, so if I am not getting enough sleep then I am not giving
the neurons in my brain the oppurtunity to replenish. Not being able to concentrate
will have effects on memory, hallucination, and physical performance as well. Lastly,
the production of proteins happens abundantly during sleeping periods. Proteins are

Analysis Of A Simple Heart
Taneka .D.G. Evelyn
ENG 212 042
Dec.12th, 2011
The realist period was a time of the nineteenth century in which authors, artists and
other people in literature provided in depth accounts of events that occurred during
that time period. In Gustave Flaubert s A Simple Heart, he explored the lives of two
fictional women of different classes (middle and lower) during the realist period.
Through characters like Madame Aubain, a rich woman and Felicite, her poor, gentle
maid, he provided the reader with a sneak peek of nineteenth century France.
The first sentence of A Simple Heart gives the reader an ironic insight of the
protagonist Felicite. It states Madame Aubain s servant Felicite was the envy of
the ladies of Pont l Г‰vГ«que for half a century (2208, A Simple Heart).By giving
a brief synopsis of the protagonist, it makes the reader wonder why was she the
envy of the other women around her. She was serving another woman. What was
there to envy? Flaubert must have done this on purpose to get the reader to put a
price on happiness. Even the words used to describe the other women ladies would
bring a great deal of doubt to the reader.
Flaubert introduced the seemingly simpler character, Felicite first, with a rather
vivid and detailed description. He portrayed her as a woman that was different
from the others. Being a maid, Felicite was not expected to be complex and
Flaubert did her much justice. He described She rose at daybreak to be in time for
Mass, and worked till evening without stopping. Then, when dinner was over, the
plates and dishes were in order, and the door shut fast, she thrust the

log under the ashes and went to sleep in front of the heath with a rosary in her
hand (2209, A Simple Heart). He made her seem very uniformed, as though she had
nothing important to do. She appeared religious and organized but lacked that
complexity that comes with being a woman. The routine was the same and therefore
proved that a woman of lower class was bounded to the house.
Felicite became so accustomed to her routine that she decided to stay in the house to
the very end. According to

Attachment Theory And Its Effect On An Individual
Question One Attachment theory is one way of understanding relationships, and the
effect it has on an individual (Bowlby, 2005). Bowlby theorized that the relationship
established from birth by the primary caregiver is the foundation for the development
of relationship building throughout the life cycle. This relationship instructs the infant
how the environment will respond to crying, hunger, and emotional stimuli (2005).
When the infant obtains a nurturing response to these stimuli the infant will have
secure attachments, and provide a blueprint how the world will respond to their needs
(Pearson, 2010). An unhealthy response (ignoring, yelling, etc.) perpetuates a
negative development or insecure attachment giving the child an inconsistent
understanding of what to expect from their environment (Pearson, 2010). Insecure
attachments, in infants, can perpetuate health problems such as anxiety, depression,
and failure to thrive (Bowlby, 2005). Failure to thrive is observed as a child s lack of
meeting developmental milestones (not eating, sleeping, standing, sitting, smiling,
etc.) (Shah, 2015) As the child develops, the insecure attachment may present itself
as maladaptive behaviors. Maladaptive behaviors are described as a way a person
adjusts to their environment in an attempt to escape an uncomfortable situation
(NAMI, 2015). They are often referred to as coping strategies; they can be negative
or positive (NAMI, 2015). In a child experiencing attachment deficiencies,

go into people s houses and garages are because of the cold weather, rainy downfall,
and because of floods. The rodents go up to the houses in order to get warm and
dry areas in the house where they may have their young at. The sewers were also
flooded so the rats had nowhere to go so they go into people s houses and garages.

Learning Behaviors And Their Own Way Of Learning
Specific...
Every individual has their own way of learning specific behaviors. Some behaviors
are learned through teaching while other behaviors are learned unknowingly.
Unknowingly, meaning not anticipating on automatically learning something;
however becoming involved in a specific kind of environment. Many people learn
behaviors from the environment that surrounds them and some people learn
behaviors from people who influence them outside of their comfort zones. Some
people admire change and adapt quickly while others take a while to become
accustom to change. Many individuals learn new things in different ways. Often
times growing up, a child learns their spoken language through their parents and
family members. For a child that is Spanish, he or she learns from the womb to
speak Spanish and as they become introduced to different languages that surround
them, they become accustomed to multiple languages. When a person grows up in
a specific environment, they learn to adapt to those beliefs whether its religion or
what is considered to be acceptable in their daily life; however some children as
they get older begin to follow their own beliefs set aside from their parents beliefs.
Each and every culture is taught differently and because of that some people don t
necessarily understand the reason behind everyone s beliefs; however from a
personal perspective some people grow out of beliefs into their own overtime. An
example is those who grow up being taught to follow a specific
Joe Sacco s On Satire
How and why is a social group represented in a particular way?
The cartoonists are the main social group portrayed in the cartoon On Satire by Joe
Sacco, which is published in The Guardian. On Satire portrays other cartoonists as
obnoxious, insensitive cavemen who often cross the line between satire and just
outright offensive mockery of the religious beliefs of Muslims. The purpose of the
cartoon is to ridicule the black and white way of representation of all Muslims as
terrorists. Also he is aiming to get cartoonists to convince governments and news
outlets to consider ways in which to stop terrorism by understanding why terrorism
exists instead of just eradicating all Muslims and hoping that terrorism dies with them.

Public Space Research Paper
The proactive exclusion of religious expression in the public space is in direct
conflict with the conscious inclusion of said public expression during the first
century in America. The premise of separation of church and state is the tool used
by the offended to drive a wedge between the two. The religious freedoms our
founders acknowledged as rights have allowed a rich mixture of diverse religions to
be practiced independently of each other. However, these same freedoms have been
misconstrued by an irreligious minority who use them as weapons to enforce their
opinions, and chip away at the basic rights of the majority. Historically, religionand
government have been tightly intertwined. Kings would often take on the role of
Priests in addition to their stately duties, and governments would execute any citizen
they deemed disrespectful to their chosen god. These rulings were typically made by
the ruler, which led many to question the wisdom of state sponsored religion. As
time passed, the first protests of this intermingling would be heard, and a time known
as the age of enlightenment would soon emerge. As more and more countries
adapted to the idea of drawing a line between the church and State, the diverse
interpretations of the concept would vary. In Sweden, for example, religious classes

The Age of Absolutism in France
Absolutism in France
(Order #A2068670) European monarchs did not simply emerge on the scene as
absolute rulers but slowly acquired supreme power over a long period of time. This
interest in becoming absolute rulers infected the European monarchs, becoming
particularly acute during the religious wars of the 16th century. As a result of the
chaos and destruction, the kings of Europe began to consolidate power into a
centralized system with the monarch at the top. By the beginning of the 17th
century a number of European countries had monarchs who exercised absolute
power over their kingdoms. One of the largest and most populated countries in
Western Europe during this time was France, which slowly centralized
governmental power in the hands of a single monarch. France has often been
considered to be one of the best examples of how a monarchy assumed centralized
and absolute power; ushering in the Age of Absolutism. Louis XIV of France is
often referred to as the Sun King and is a prime example of a European monarch
who exercised absolute power. However, absolutism in France did not begin with
Louis XIV, but with his grandfather and founder of the Bourbon Dynasty, Henry IV.
It was Henry IV who began the centralization of power by keeping France at peace
during most of his reign by tolerating Protestants. During this time he also
strengthened the monarchy s finances by charging royal officials a fee to inherit
their positions. He also lowered taxes in an effort to rebuild

The first reason is the thrill and challenges of it. They found that the overcoming

The Lobed Bowl
The Lobed bowl with seated figure and attendants was an important art material to the
caliphates and dynasties that were present at the late 12th and early 13th century. The
bowl signified artistic achievement, exemplified by the development of painted
decoration in Iraq in the 11th century. In this paper, I will be stating some
observations I made from studying the Lobed Bowl, these observations will include:
the material, surface texture, use of color, size and the composition use of line. The

There is also a presence of regularly repeating pattern of lines around the bowl.
These lines are painted in different colors and comes from the bottom of the bowl
upward. I believe the lobed bowl must have been inspired by culture. The luxurious
look of the bowl portrays that it was used by the king or members of the royal family
for. I believe that the use and the beauty of the lobed bowl go hand in hand. They
are two inseparable aspects of perfection, being a material used by the royal family.
Inside the bowl, we can see people seating on horses. I believe these people
represent the palace guards, or guards who were victorious in a war and are
celebrating on their horses. At the center of the bowl, we see a figure seated and
two people attending to the figure. I believe that the figure seated was the king
during that time, and the people beside him were his attendants. When we look
inside bowl, next to the seated figure are camels. Since Camel are used by merchants
for caring merchandise, I would say that the camels represented the business or
economy of that specific period of
Analysis Of Beneath Clouds
The notion of the contemporary indigenous identity and the impact of these notions
are both explored in texts that have been studied. Ivan Sen s 2002 film Beneath
Clouds focuses on the stereotypical behaviours of Indigenous Australians highlighting
Lina and Vaughn s journey. This also signifies the status and place of the Australian
identity today. Through the use of visual techniques and stereotypes the ideas that the
Indigenous are uneducated, involved in crime and the stereotypical portrayal of
white people are all explored. Similarly the notion of urban and rural life is
represented in Kennith Slessor s William Street and Country Towns .
In contemporary times the Indigenous are stereotypically represented as being violent
and aggressive. Sen is creating a stereotypical image of young Indigenous boys as
criminals and dominative. An extreme close up of Vaughn behind jail bars show the
separation between Vaughn and society. The stereotype of Indigenous Australiansas
criminals is shown in a negative light and acts as a false stereotype. The jail bars
act as a physical and metaphorical barrier and the use of non diegetic music sets a
mood of extreme sadness. Domestic violence is also suggested in the car ride. The
women with the child is seen as submissive and this violence acts as usual practise.
However, Vaughn does not appear to this stereotype of all males being dominative.
Sen s use of camera angles highlights the stereotypical nature of indigenous people

The Suicide Note By Janice Mirikitani
TOPIC
There are times when we feel like we must be perfect in other to please others. No
matter if we did the best we could, if it isn t perfect, we felt like a failure. We want
the approval that comes with perfectness but perfectionism is not the same thing as
striving to be our best. Perfectionism is not about healthy achievement and growth; it
s a shield. Perfectionism is refusal to accept any standard short of perfection. Suicide
Note, by Janice Mirikitani, is about an Asian American college student who
commits suicide by jumping from her dormitory window. This poem is read as the
suicide note that was left behind by this young woman to apologize to her parent s
for having received less than a perfect four point grade average and not being
perfect in life. Her last thoughts and feelings were left on this note, describing why
she did what she did. The pressure to succeed that this student felt from herself and
her parents was far too much to overcome. Even though the girl worked really hard
and did her very best, it wasn t good enough in her mind and maybe in her parents
minds to be worthy of her parents love or life itself and so her only option was
death to atone for her sin of imperfection. Sometimes pressure to succeed that a
student feels from herself and her parents is far too much to overcome.
This poem begins by describing some of the harsh feelings associated with failure.

What Is The Meaning Of Mother To Son By Langston
Hughes
Mother to Son by Langston Hughes has the narrator as the mother who describes her
challenges in her life using symbols like; tacks, splinters, uncarpeted floor and dark,
unlit corners. The mother is wanting her son to not go back down the stairs. Life gets
tough, but don t lose faith, eventually you will get through your struggles. As a mother
myself, I understood where she was coming on how life can give you lots of bumps,
but to keep putting one foot in front of the other. She demonstrates the lovebetween a
mother and a son. The poem opens up with the comparison of the mothersstruggles
and a not perfect staircase.
The entire poem is an extended metaphor. It s a comparison between life and a set
of stairs that has by no means been crystal. The metaphor for the stairs is one as
often life is marked by stages and by a person s having climbed him/herself to
success or some other goal. It seems the mother may not have reached much success
because of her social setting. She has always persevered nevertheless. I se been a

The resolution was how the mother warns her son don t you fall now/ for I se still

bottom has become about her son. She needs to communicate the need for him to
continue to keep her progress going. It also implies that it is possible to lose the
ground that she has worked so hard to win. The conflict within this poem is between
the mother and her son. Her warning in the resolution shows that she has reason to
fear that her son might not continue up the stairs, that he might find its kinder hard
and just set down on the steps. After her hard life, this is something the mother does
not want to happen to her

Alternative Fee Arrangements ( Afas )
Despite the growing trend toward alternative fee arrangements (AFAs), most law
firms would prefer they were just a passing fad. Clients, on the other hand, are

free, you will need to apply these characteristics to your own life.
Four attributes of debt free people

patients. Individuals that are patient never buy on impulse. They have no problem
with waiting and saving for a big ticket item that they want. By practicing patience, it

your car payment, mortgage and utilities. It also prohibits
How Is Diagonal Language Used In Finding Nemo
This screenshot is from the film Finding Nemo, (Pixar, 2003) and contains a few
components of Mise en scene which can be found in this still. These components are
a diagonal line composition, meaning the use of diagonal lines, and pointing out the
strain of being pushed; the utilization of high key lighting, which lightens up the
mood and a long shot representing the scene.
The diagonal arrangement can be found in the screenshot on the turtle s fins and
mouth, the waves, Martin and Dory s fins, and crushes shell. This segment of the film
happens shortly after Marlin wakes up to find himself resting on the shell of a sea
turtle called Crush. Pixar has likely utilized the diagonal composition techniques in
this scene to give more movement, so they re not static; it other word diagonal lines
is used to make the scene dynamic. This additionally is connected to the feeling Pixar
is trying to convey through this scene, which is pressure and instability, this tells the
audience that they are going to run into trouble soon. The waves are dynamic, so
their being pushed, this questions what problems could occur starting from here. The
diagonal lines give the scene pressure and vulnerability since the place they are
moving is unclear and a feeling of movement. The director s knowledge of diagonal
line compositions affects the piece enabling him to pass on ... Show more content on

In the film, this scene in the plot is a positive, cheery, and glad occasion where Martin
and Dory are finally moving forward. Pixar has demonstrated this through their
utilization of high key lighting. This sort of light enables the colors to appear
brighter. The high key lighting is brilliant and consistently spread without any
shadows that emerge. Subsequently, there is no feeling of threat from problems that
could come out of the dull shadows, and the scene, in this case, it brings out
happiness, joy, and
My Personal Quality
A personal quality that is important to me and that I am proud of is my compassion
for others. In a competitive and increasingly disconnected world, my compassion,
something I once viewed as a weakness, helps keep me grounded. My compassion
for others is what drives me to befriend new students, stand by and support my
friends dealing with mental illnesses and drug addictions, take my dog on long
hikes, life a vegan lifestyle, vote with my money, give up my seat for the old
woman on the bus, help my sister with her math homework, give my teachers the
respect they deserve, drive food donations from my school to the food bank every
Friday afternoon after school, and spend my weekends at the aquarium trying,
desperately, to convince people to take
Mayan Calendar Essay
Throughout the years, many different cultures have created many different calendars.
Each culture like the Mayans and Egyptians and others have all used celestial bodies
to help determine the months and years. Each culture has their way of using the
celestial bodies to create a calendar because they had different methods of calculating
the time. Having a calendarhelped them keep track of seasonal and celestial events
and on predicting eclipses and moonphases.
Originally, the calendars were constructed by ancient civilizations by using the
celestial bodies in which the Sun, Moon, planets, and stars were used as references to
calculate the time and to determine seasons, months, and years. Every culture has
kept track of time in their own ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The walls have written and paintings on them which, include the calculations of the
Mayan Calendar which many people believe their calculation prophesies the end of
the world which the archaeologist have confirmed not to be true. In Xultun, they have
discovered paintings, which according to William Saturno states, Maya paintings are
incredibly rare, not because the Maya didn t paint them often, but because they rarely
preserve in the tropical environment of Guatemala. These paintings contain
illustrations. The first painting has a king wearing a royal outfit that contains
feathers and a man kneeling beside the king holding a stylus possible being a scribe.
Underneath the painting, there is a label that could be translated to, Younger Brother
Obsidian or Junior Obsidian. The next painting has three men wearing feathered
headdresses and medallions which also have a label translated to, Older Brother
Obsidian or Senior Obsidian. The paintings weren t the only things found, a wall
filled with calculation was also found. The wall was filled with charts of numbers
representing bars and dots. Maya astronomers, priests, and mathematicians at the time
used to calculate the moon ages to create the Mayan Calendar and to predict the next
eclipses from observing the heavens. Mayan calculation
The Progressive Era Essay
The Progressive Era was a period that exposed the contradictions found in American
society in the late nineteenth and early twentieth century. Theodore Roosevelt
summed up the Progressive/Reform feeling in his Square Deal speech that it was
all about morals, not economics. His goal was the moral regeneration of the
business world. He preached that it was wrong for some people to get ahead in
business and politics by tricks and schemes, while others were cheated out of the
opportunity. This was the kind of talk that millions of Americans from all areas of
society could understand and respond to.
Roosevelt simply acted in the interests of the common working man, fixing things
that they found unjust. For years, the poor and ... Show more content on

American reform movements have generally been started as a rebellion against the
control of big businesses and corrupt government. The poor conditions of schools and
the entire education system at the turn of the twentieth century were a major cause
for reform. That reform movement has influenced the entire education system and has
made it better and more suitable for students.(Buenker, 2007)
Civil rights for African Americans and women was just beginning to become an
issue in the late 19th century. Many progressivists spoke out for suffrage for
women and equal rights for black people. Today, civil rights for minorities is still a
big cause for reform. There are many different oraganizations whose goal is to reform
the way society, the government and businesses treat any type of minority, including
Hispanics, homosexuals and Native Americans. However civil rights is just one of
the many causes of modern reform groups. Others include reform of huge companies
and monoplolies, welfare programs, education systems and many, many other issues.
A reform movement is a shout against people, businesses, governments or ideas that
are morally corrupt. Not all reform movements are successful in making an actual
change, however even if a significant change isn t made their message is still shared
with the public. Reform group leaders are usually involved in the government and

Effects Of Disney Princess Effect On Girls
Is Disney Destroying Our Girls? As a child, I grew up with the Disney pop culture
surrounding me. I constantly watched Disney movies, cartoons, and I even played
with their toys like every other kid in America during the early 2000s. Not much
has changed except the increase and growth of their industry. With the expanding
$4 billion revenue (Hanes 510) flowing in each year, they have added more
princesses along the way. While some girls are ecstatic over the new additions to
the princess family, some adults are not. This is not a common opinion among
many Disney fanatics to see, but the author of Little Girls or Little Women? The
Disney Princess Effect Stephanie Hanes is one of the few that are not satisfied with
the work of Walt, bringing an eccentric point of view to our attention. Parents, like
Hanes, fear the psychological effect it can leave on their daughters and how it can
potentially narrow their future goals. Hanes s argument uses ethos, logos, and pathos
to skillfully to argue the point of the Disney Princess effect on girls. As a girl, Disney
s industry was an avid part of my youth and I was convinced that I would become
Bellefrom Beauty and the Beast one day. I wrote to Santa and waited patiently for
new princess gowns at Christmas time so I could be a different character each
Halloween. You can say that I have a lot in common with Mary Finucane s daughter
that we hear about in Little Girls or Little Women? The Disney Princess Effect . Ms.

Code Talkers Essay
In this precursor research paper, I will conduct a study of the code talkers from
WWII. The purpose of this study is to remind other colleagues the significance of
the Navajos throughout World War II. I will use the following articles for my
research, World War II Time Line (Nationalgeographic.com), Semper Fidelis, Code
talkers (Adam Jevec), Memorandum Regarding The Enlistment of Navajo
(archives.gov), Navajo Code Talkers And World War II 1943 (recordsofrights.org),
and lastly the Unbreakable: Remembering the Code Talkers (Hilary Parkinson).
The main idea of my paper would be an insight look on who the code talkers were.
Whose idea was it to form this group? What role did the Navajos play in World War
II, and why the Navajos? The first article that stood out to me was Semper Fidelis,
Code Talkers (Adam Jevec). The article mentions the history of code talkers, the
reason why they were created, and the goal that they achieved. The... Show more

In other words, without the Navajos, we wouldn t have been able to defeat the
Japanese after they had bomb Pearl Harbor. The second article, Memorandum
Regarding The Enlistment of Navajo (archives.org) states, Philip Johnston was the
initiator of the Marine Corps program to enlist and train the Navajos as messengers.
Although Johnston was not a Navajo, he grew up on a Navajo reservation as the son
of a missionary and became familiar with the people and their language. This quote
illustrated us, who exactly came up with the idea of the code talkers. Furthermore,
Phillip Johnston was the mastermind of code talkers, even though he didn t speak the
Dignity In The Power Of The Zoot, By Luis Alvarez
The Power of the Zoot by Luis Alvarez examines the zoot culture within Los Angeles
and New York. Alvarez argues that underrepresented groups participated in the zoot
culture to acquire dignity during the Second World War (Alvarez, 10). The first
segment depicts the increasing economic opportunity for underrepresented groups
and their unceasing experience with unemployment or discrimination. Additionally,
the American public attempted to restrain the youth by associating the zoot culture
with nefarious qualities. Mexican Americans, African Americans, and Asian
Americans utilized contemporary fashion, language, and public venues to assert their
identities. Moreover, those who participated in the zoot culture challenged the
traditional archetype of masculinity and whiteness (Alvarez, 104). Lastly, Alvarez
analyzes the prominent occurrence in Los Angeles and several riots throughout...

His evaluation of the zoot culture and the riots across the United States is largely
deduced from primary sources. This includes If He Hollers Let Him Go by Chester
Himes, oral interviews, photographs, and documentation on the Mexican American
experience. Furthermore, Alvarez incorporates historian analysis, excerpts of lyrics,
and demographics from the United States Bureau of the Census. More importantly,
his interpretation of the zoot culture conveys the significance of dignity and identity
within Los Angeles and New York. American society associated delinquent behavior
to zoot culture and several underrepresented groups. These underrepresented groups
continued to experience discrimination through employment and their daily lives
(Alvarez, 10). Consequently, Mexican Americans or African Americans sought
acknowledgement within a constructed culture or group. The zoot culture provided
recognition, a venue for integrated gatherings, trends for consumption, and the ability
to confront conventional social

  • 2. White Tailed Deer Research Paper White tailed deer (Odocoileus virginianus) have historical significance throughout the state of Ohio. Ohio s ancient civilizations relied heavily on white tailed deer for food, tools, and clothing. Deer were attracted to the region because of the agricultural practices of Native Americans such as growing corn and the prevalence of hard mast . The population of white tailed deerwas healthy prior to European settlement, as predators such as the North American cougar (Puma concolor), eastern timber wolf (Canis lupus lycaon), and native americans kept the population under control. There are an estimated 500,000 white tailed deer in Ohio, the species can be found in all 88 counties. Populations today are managed by a regulated hunting season. When Ender was small, the government installed a monitor on the back of his neck so they could observe his actions and judge whether he was fit to join the army. Decades, maybe a whole century before, aliens, called buggers , attacked the planet. Humans were outgunned, outnumbered, and a sure defeat seemed to be on the way. If it weren t for the best general in history of earth, mankind would have been destroyed. The government is positive the buggers will come back, so they take certain children at the age of six, and drive them mad. When Ender turned six, he was chosen to join the army. He wants to survive so he can finally find Isabel, his friend who freed him from the British Prison. I paused. If he thought I was was a soldier, then a soldier I would pretend tobe. The truth was dangerous. (16). A protagonist is the central character. They sometimes are called the hero by the audience. In Forge, I believe that Curzon is the protagonist. He wants to ensure that everyone gets the freedom that they deserve. Let me ask you something. We re fighting for freedom right? What if a king made bad laws? Laws so unnatural that a country broke them declaring it s freedom? (64). Suspense is the feeling of anticipation that something risky is about to happen. The purpose of using this type of anxiety in literature is to make readers more concerned about characters, and to form sympathetic association with them.In Forge, Curzon is out in the woods late at night and spots a shadowy figure in the distance. • 8. Support For Removing The Bereavement Exclusion Controversies Support for removing the bereavement exclusion Koukopoulos and Sani (2013) found that in ancient times the core of depression with mixed features consisted of the following excitatory symptoms: agitation, anxiety, anger, racing and crowded thoughts, irritability, and rage. The DSM 5 criterion for mixed features mentions only two of the seven symptoms (Koukopoulos Sani, 2013). In more recent literature as referenced by the DSM 5 mood disorders work group, it was found that some of the authors did not find any of the proposed DSM 5 symptoms for depressionwith mixed features diagnostically relevant. The first two diagnostic criteria proposed by the DSM 5 are euphoria and grandiosity, which were found to be too rare to be considered important because they are so infrequently occurring in a small amount of depressive patients (Koukopoulos Sani, 2013). Additionally, there was weak evidence to support the DSM 5 definition of mixed features for depression historically and scientifically. Overlapping criteria such as psychomotor agitation, irritability, and mood liability are found to be the core features of mixed depression. Due to this criterion, it is possible that many patients with mixed depression will most likely be diagnosed and treated inadequately. Instead, the evidence found supports the clinical validity for an alternative definition for agitated depression and mixed depression (Koukopoulos Sani, 2013). According to Zisook et al (2013),

Therefore, to curtail the problem of racism and oppression in the public school system, schools should teach children about the brutal American past that inflicted racism and oppression toward certain ethnic backgrounds and people of different races. The United Stateshas had extensive conflicts with people that are not of white origin. From the early part of history in the United States, starting with the Native Americans, the United States government took away rights and freedom from the Native Americans, all for the sake of the land. Eventually, after the United States gained control of Native American land they soon needed individuals to exploit the lands and the government allowed slaves or indentured servants to solve the land from 1619 to 1865 (History.com). Accordingly, the United States has experienced an extended chronicle of oppression toward different ethnicity and people of color. Another case of the United States oppressing people is, during World War II the American government ordered and made Japanese people live internment camps; the regime intended that whole Japanese people posed a hazard to the country. From slavery and internment camps, the United States has inflicted many lives of many different ethnicities. Another detail that shows that the narrator is in denial is when he states the ambulance arrived / with the corpse (14 15). It is a very cold thing to say because it s his little brother in the ambulance not just a strange, and he just refers to him as a corpse. The narrator explains that as soon as he got home he saw his father in tears and how strange it was for his father to cry especially in funerals. The narrator then states, [My father] had always taken funerals in his stride meaning that funerals never really bothered his father (5). The way the narrator s mother reacts to the death of her four year old son, further supports the fact that everyone grieves differently. When the narrator introduces his mother in the poem he states, [She] coughed out angry tearless sighs (13). In the contrary from the narrator s father, the narrator s mother is not even shedding a tear. Which makes it very obvious that her first step in grieving was

  • 19. The Monetary System in Early America The support, which Mr. Franklin s Modest Enquiry has raised, for a large addition of paper bills, to the current circulating coinage, is alarming in of itself, and, added to the quickness with which the commoner entrusts himself to Mr. Franklin s opinions, has the opportunity to bring ruin and poverty upon our nation. His arguments for such a hasty addition are hinged upon the fact that this nation is now in want of money . Is this true, fellow countrymen? Are we not a prosperous nation, by the blessings of Him who sanctifies us with His dedications? Do we not receive pilgrims, from the shores of the eastern world, who wish to share in our fortune? The honorable Mr. Franklin no doubt intends well with his illustrious pamphlet; however, I find myself obligated to explain the failings in his otherwise eloquent Enquiry. Firstly, Mr. Franklin s opening consideration reads as follows, A great Want of Money in any Trading Country, occasions Interest to be at a very high Rate. As a foundation for this assertion, he argues that men, in a time that occasions severe measures, are forced to demand high interest, even to eight and ten percent. In his resulting argument, Mr. Franklin has made a hazardous error in overlooking an ostensibly obvious exemption to his initial statement. Especially in times of monetary stress, the value of competition is realized. For, of course, during such times, money lenders experience an increase in business, and, desiring to surpass their competition,

Evelyn ENG 212 042 Dec.12th, 2011 The realist period was a time of the nineteenth century in which authors, artists and other people in literature provided in depth accounts of events that occurred during that time period. In Gustave Flaubert s A Simple Heart, he explored the lives of two fictional women of different classes (middle and lower) during the realist period. Through characters like Madame Aubain, a rich woman and Felicite, her poor, gentle maid, he provided the reader with a sneak peek of nineteenth century France. The first sentence of A Simple Heart gives the reader an ironic insight of the protagonist Felicite. It states Madame Aubain s servant Felicite was the envy of the ladies of Pont l Г‰vГ«que for half a century (2208, A Simple Heart).By giving a brief synopsis of the protagonist, it makes the reader wonder why was she the envy of the other women around her. She was serving another woman. What was there to envy? Flaubert must have done this on purpose to get the reader to put a price on happiness. Even the words used to describe the other women ladies would bring a great deal of doubt to the reader. Flaubert introduced the seemingly simpler character, Felicite first, with a rather vivid and detailed description. He portrayed her as a woman that was different from the others. Being a maid, Felicite was not expected to be complex and Flaubert did her much justice. He described She rose at daybreak to be in time for Mass, and worked till evening without stopping. Then, when dinner was over, the plates and dishes were in order, and the door shut fast, she thrust the Evelyn 2 log under the ashes and went to sleep in front of the heath with a rosary in her hand (2209, A Simple Heart). He made her seem very uniformed, as though she had nothing important to do. She appeared religious and organized but lacked that complexity that comes with being a woman. The routine was the same and therefore proved that a woman of lower class was bounded to the house. Felicite became so accustomed to her routine that she decided to stay in the house to the very end. • 26. Attachment Theory And Its Effect On An Individual Question One Attachment theory is one way of understanding relationships, and the effect it has on an individual (Bowlby, 2005). Bowlby theorized that the relationship established from birth by the primary caregiver is the foundation for the development of relationship building throughout the life cycle. This relationship instructs the infant how the environment will respond to crying, hunger, and emotional stimuli (2005). When the infant obtains a nurturing response to these stimuli the infant will have secure attachments, and provide a blueprint how the world will respond to their needs (Pearson, 2010). An unhealthy response (ignoring, yelling, etc.) perpetuates a negative development or insecure attachment giving the child an inconsistent understanding of what to expect from their environment (Pearson, 2010). Insecure attachments, in infants, can perpetuate health problems such as anxiety, depression, and failure to thrive (Bowlby, 2005). Failure to thrive is observed as a child s lack of meeting developmental milestones (not eating, sleeping, standing, sitting, smiling, etc.) (Shah, 2015) As the child develops, the insecure attachment may present itself as maladaptive behaviors. Maladaptive behaviors are described as a way a person adjusts to their environment in an attempt to escape an uncomfortable situation (NAMI, 2015). They are often referred to as coping strategies; they can be negative or positive (NAMI, 2015). In a child experiencing attachment deficiencies,

This interest in becoming absolute rulers infected the European monarchs, becoming particularly acute during the religious wars of the 16th century. As a result of the chaos and destruction, the kings of Europe began to consolidate power into a centralized system with the monarch at the top. By the beginning of the 17th century a number of European countries had monarchs who exercised absolute power over their kingdoms. One of the largest and most populated countries in Western Europe during this time was France, which slowly centralized governmental power in the hands of a single monarch. Perfectionism is refusal to accept any standard short of perfection. Suicide Note, by Janice Mirikitani, is about an Asian American college student who commits suicide by jumping from her dormitory window. This poem is read as the suicide note that was left behind by this young woman to apologize to her parent s for having received less than a perfect four point grade average and not being perfect in life. Her last thoughts and feelings were left on this note, describing why she did what she did. The pressure to succeed that this student felt from herself and her parents was far too much to overcome. In a competitive and increasingly disconnected world, my compassion, something I once viewed as a weakness, helps keep me grounded. My compassion for others is what drives me to befriend new students, stand by and support my friends dealing with mental illnesses and drug addictions, take my dog on long hikes, life a vegan lifestyle, vote with my money, give up my seat for the old woman on the bus, help my sister with her math homework, give my teachers the respect they deserve, drive food donations from my school to the food bank every Friday afternoon after school, and spend my weekends at the aquarium trying, desperately, to convince people to take

  • 44. The Progressive Era Essay The Progressive Era was a period that exposed the contradictions found in American society in the late nineteenth and early twentieth century. Theodore Roosevelt summed up the Progressive/Reform feeling in his Square Deal speech that it was all about morals, not economics. His goal was the moral regeneration of the business world. He preached that it was wrong for some people to get ahead in business and politics by tricks and schemes, while others were cheated out of the opportunity. • 45. Effects Of Disney Princess Effect On Girls Is Disney Destroying Our Girls? As a child, I grew up with the Disney pop culture surrounding me. I constantly watched Disney movies, cartoons, and I even played with their toys like every other kid in America during the early 2000s. Not much has changed except the increase and growth of their industry. With the expanding $4 billion revenue (Hanes 510) flowing in each year, they have added more princesses along the way. While some girls are ecstatic over the new additions to the princess family, some adults are not. This is not a common opinion among many Disney fanatics to see, but the author of Little Girls or Little Women? The Disney Princess Effect Stephanie Hanes is one of the few that are not satisfied with the work of Walt, bringing an eccentric point of view to our attention. Parents, like Hanes, fear the psychological effect it can leave on their daughters and how it can potentially narrow their future goals. Hanes s argument uses ethos, logos, and pathos to skillfully to argue the point of the Disney Princess effect on girls.
