only miniscule details regarding what the holiday actually commemorates. According

Social and Economic Decline in the Western Roman Empire
Essay
By the fourth century, the Roman Empire had developed exponentially with
significant growth in cultural, social, and political activity. Leading up to the Battle
of Adrianople of 378 AD, the Empire suffered significant division and its once
uniform body began to splinter. After multiple attempts to unify the empire, the East
and the West grew increasingly independent. The battle proved a critical turning point
in the prominence of the West significantly foreshadowing its future. While the
declining reputation of Rome was apparent long before the battle itself, it was clear
that the Roman defeat at Adrianople significantly contributed to the Western Empire
s gradual disintegration as the dominance of the East thrived. Nearing the fourth...

As the two mingled, conflict arose and the Goths revolted. The conflict grew and
the forces met at Adrianople. The Roman army numbered 30,000 as the Germanic
tribes numbered nearly 60,000 (Barbarians). The Western emperor, Valens, acted
in haste attacking the Goths head on using little strategy. The Romans ill prepared
army was defeated, losing two thirds of its men and even its emperor. The Roman
loss at Adrianople proved very significant to the decline of the Western Empire.
Being such a powerful empire, the inconsistency of leadership left the social and
economic order in a state of jeopardy. ...in the course of fifty years some twenty
three emperors succeeded to the imperial throne and with so many emperors, there
was little sincere leadership for the success of the Empire (Barbarians 5). As Valens
rose to power, he quickly became unpopular in the eyes of the people. Going into the
battle, he held a firm desire for swift victory on the apparent weak opponent, and
hastily sent his army with inadequate equipment because of reductions in available
funds for military spending (History). The insufficient training of the army was also a
predominant reason for their loss in the battle. With the economic conditions of the
Empire in gradual decline, Valens did not provide his army with the necessary
equipment and instruction to be victorious in the Battle of Adrianople, eventually
resulting in a dreadful
Covetousness Of God In Amadeus
Moreover, Mozart s music in Amadeus is attributed to survey intricate relationship
between God and humans. Through Salieri s powerful jealousy of Mozart s music
and his intense blame on God, the movie proposes the issue of human s incomplete
belief in God and the question about the existence of God. Salieri, in the beginning
part of the movie, is presented as the profoundly religious human. He believes that
God grants his faithful wish to be a successful composer so he tries to devote to his
God earnestly. However, after the appearance of Mozart in his life, Salieri starts to
distrust God and commit blasphemy. Throughout the movie, Salieri s strong

Larry D. Bouchard states that even if Salieri could not create the voice of god, he
was the musician with ears for listening to the voice of god truly. (207) However,
Salieri in Amadeus does not realize his own talent and only abominates Mozart and
God. Salieri s emotion of detestation for God resulted from the severe jealousy of
Mozart leads him to revenge for God and to break officially his tie with God in the
end. The revenge for God and his incarnation Mozart begins in the scene that
Constanze the wife of Mozart visits Salieri again in a late night to request his
recommendation for her husband to teach Princess Elizabeth. In the movie, when
Constanze takes off her dress for a trade with Salieri, the tune of Mass in C Minor K.

inserted in the scene brings an ironical effect on the movie because the scene is the

Intern Nation By Ross Perlin
Intern Nation by Ross Perlin tells you most everything you ever wanted to know
about internships and then some. Equal parts history lesson, tell all and personal
commentary, this should be assigned reading for anyone considering taking part in
an internship. It has been coded into the minds of the young job seekers today that
they must first work for free if they ever hope to find a good paying position. Perlin
sends the necessary message though that the system that has been put in place to
make this possible is cracked and presents a bad deal for internshipseeking individual.
Perlin recounts that most internships are filled with less than fulfilling fun work
such as errands and clean up duty. This seems to provoke outrage and bitterness on
his behalf. On this point I have to say that I agree and disagree with him. In the
case of my internship I worked on some things that furthered my skill set, but
mostly on administrative reporting and lists of media contacts. However, I have
to say that as far as tales of workplace hardships go, mine were not particularly
horrible. There is boring work that is necessary for all businesses to succeed and
who better to do it than the lowest man on the totem pole the guy who doesn t have
the skills to do anything else and has yet to earn the privilege of doing more
important work. Yes, I ran errands and mostly did the repetitive work of compiling
administrative reports and media lists. This was the basis that must be laid if there is

Mardi Gras Research Paper
FAT TUESDAY RUN All around Louisiana, the people celebrate Mardi Gras in
early spring. Urban cities such as New Orleans and Baton Rouge utilize fancy bright
lighted parades, celebrity kings and queens, and shiny beads to celebrate the
festivities. Growing up in south Louisiana, I attended many of these parades in the
Big Easy. My grandparents would tell stories of rural Mardi Grasand the Cajun
culture. After hearing their stories, I decided to attend the courir de Mardi Gras.
The courir de Mardi Gras is a traditional Mardi Gras event held the Tuesday before
the catholic lent season in small rural towns. This is known as Fat Tuesday run.

We rode along on the country side. Farm land stretched along the road for as far as
the eye could see. The majority of the farms grew crops of rice . But this time of
year, the farmers flood the rice fields to farm another delicacy of Cajuns, crawfish.
After a short ride, we reached the first farm. It was a small quaint farm with a small
white wooden house and an old wood barn. The farmer and his wife walked up to
the captain. The captain spoke quietly to the farmer. From what I was told was the
captain was asking the farmer s permission to come on his farm and to offer
dancing for any charity. The riders waiting anticipally for the captain to wave his
flag. The flag was suddenly waved and the riders raced onto the property. The
farmer grabbed a chicken from his coup by the legs. He raised it in the air and
released it. Several costumed riders frantically jumped off of their horses and began
chasing the chicken around the farm. While this was going on, the band began to
play a familiar Mardi Gras tune. One of the costumed men asked the farmer s wife to
dance as an offering for their generosity. The two were stomping , swaying and
following the timing of the music. Others joined in the festivities. Drinking, smiling
and laughing occurred, as the riders finally caught the chicken. Captain cracked his
whip and the procession moved to the next farm. The procession
Things Fall Apart Folktales
Things Fall Apart Journal 9 Myths are used by primitive people to record their
history to make sure it gets passed down to future generations. Achebe incorporates
folktales and myths into Things Fall Apart to illustrate the Igbo culture, characters,
and experiences. These folktales appear a myths and legends which typically
explain natural events. Myths are used as tools for teaching their children the
history and values of their ancestors. Many draw themselves from the earth, sky,
and nature, which the African culture believes to be a central part of what it means
to be human. For Okonkwo, folktales are instruments of wisdom which provide
important values and morals in order to keep peace within his tribe and to sustain
their customs and traditions. Okonokwo tells masculine stories of bloodshed and
violence, however Nyowe still prefers the stories his mother tells, which are
soothing and less violent. He recalls the story of the quarrel between the Earth and
Sky. Sky withheld rain for years and crops dried up and the deceased could not be
buried in the hard Earth. Vulture was sent to Sky to ask for forgiveness. Sky
finally conceded to forgive and gave Vulture rain wrapped in tree leaves to give to

Socrates Trial In The Apology By Plato
The Apology by Plato is a firsthand account of how Plato remembers Socrates trial
and the speech he gave while he was trying to prove his innocence. In the first part
contains Socrates introductory statement in which he states his manner of speaking.
He will speak only the truth and he asks the judges to pay attention to his words.
Socratesbegins his defense by explaining his philosophical way of life. He goes on
to discuss the accusations made against him and how he had old accusers and new
accusers. The old charges against him were that because he exposed ignoration, he
was a Sophist which is someone who was good at winning arguments through verbal

offenses by Meletus, Anytus, and Lycon. He was accused of having atheistic views
and not recognizing the gods, and of corrupting the young people of Athens. Socrates

people who were believed to be wise to find out what makes them wise. He

they thought they knew, they in fact didn t know. Socrates felt that a wise man
should understand that he doesn t know everything. This caused many people to

Ansoff Matrix Essay
We will now analyze the corporate level strategy of Patanjali using the Ansoff Product
and Market Growth Matrix. There are four components of Ansoff Matrix market
penetrations, market development, product development and diversification and we
will discuss each of them in detail below.
a)Market Penetration: It focuses on expanding sales of the existing product in firms
existing market. This can be achieved by a combination of pricing strategy , sales
promotion and marketing and the objective of the firm is to be the dominant player
in that market by driving out the competitors and increasing the loyal customer base.
This would make it less risky and require less market research for the firm to expand
as it can utilize its existing resources ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This strategy requires the firm to develop products appealing to existing markets and
the business will have to develop new competencies. This strategy emphasis on
research and development, market research on customer needs and innovative ideas.
This usually happens if the firm has a huge customer base and the market for existing
product is reaching saturation and thus market penetration strategy could not be
applied. Patanjali in its part focused on quality, purity and affordability and the
followers of Baba Ramdev formed its core set of customers. Patanjali started
making amla (gooseberry) juice which happened accidently. A group of farmers
don t know what to do with excel gooseberries as the price was very low and there
was not much demand. At that Patanjali introduced this new drink Amla Juice to the
market which was an instant hit. The introduction of new product was little riskier
as they didn t knew how the product would be accepted by the customers, but after
the drink became hit, they introduced various varieties of juices likes Aloe Vera
Juice, Hing digestive golis and also personal care products like shikakai, sherbets
and spices that Indians otherwise shopped at gramudyog outlets. They also plan to
introduce other products from baby care to garments and from bio fertilisers to
healthy food, and also organic cotton

Shootings And Burglary-Personal Narrative
Why is this happening?
I m sure you have probably heard about the shootings and burglary that have
happened recently. If not, you re about to. March 25 police were called to Bellagio
Hotel in Las Vegas with reports of an active shooter. Well, it turns out, those reports
were false. But what did happen was, masked robbers broke into the high end
jewelry and watch store of the hotel. You may be asking So what, these things
happen more than you think. Yeah, well, the robbers were wearing character masks,
nice dark suits or tuxedos, and armed with sledge hammers. An image a witness

This type of thing reminds me of something being pulled straight from there. This
is ridiculous. Why are we having problems with people copying video games? I
don t know if that was the insinuation of it or if they were copying past burglaries,
either way it is not acceptable. Yes, yes, I know, we cannot stop nor prevent all
crime. But we do have a problem in the shadows somewhere, it needs to be found.
Then we have the Las Vegas strip shooting, also on March 25, injuring 1 and
killing 1. Sources say the shooter was a man in his 50 s, who has mental health
issues, who opened fire with a handgun. This was probably not preventable very
easily, but I want to know how he got the gun, and if he knew what he was doing. If
so, what was he trying to accomplish? Was he diagnosed with the mental health issues
if he had doctor?
Now the shooting in the Cincinnati, Ohio nightclub. One dead, fourteen wounded.

Summary Of Paul David Tripp s Dangerous Calling
A church is a house of worship where Christians gather to worship and offer
sacrifices. Though all churches have a core function to serve God, they have
different doctrines and ways of worship this, therefore, leads to a difference in
preference of the believers as to which church to go to and to move away. For a
church to stand, it has various things that it should practice. Many authors have
different views concerning the same. This work is hence going to give a report on
how to keep the church standing by different authors. The biblical counselor Paul

Persuasive Essay On Foster Care
Foster Care, the Need for Change
Since the 1970 s, many debates and arguments have formed over the problems in
the Florida foster care system. Some of the arguments were made as to whether
different races should become foster families or whether or not is was suitable for
gay couples to foster children. Another issue that arose was the children with special
needs or older children that people didn t want. As the foster system grew, it began to
experience setbacks. There were now more children needing homes than available
homes. The foster care system became full of problems. Foster parents started to
complain about not having an adequate support system. The children were not
receiving the medical treatments they needed. And foster children were staying in the
system so long that some were aging out. Those that age out a were not receiving
any support or training to cope with adult life. There was also a shortage in funding.
In addition, there had become an alarming number of child abuse and neglect cases
within the foster families. Although some aspects of foster care have improved, some
changes still need to be made.
By 2017, the foster care system has made vast improvements to the program.

The Two Shopkeepers- Kantian Ethics and

The Two Shopkeepers
One of the several topics covered in Kant s Groundwork for the Metaphysics of
Morals is the issued of two shopkeepers. One shopkeeper is honest with his
customers in order to maintain a positive reputation and improve profits. The second
one is honest because he thinks it is right and exercises his respect for the moral law.
The first shopkeeper is motivated to be honest by the rewards of a positive reputation
and profit. The second is motivated by respect for morally right action. Taking these
motivations into consideration from the standpoint of Kantian ethics, it is clear which
shopkeeper is acting right. Kant believes that actions that are ... Show more content

This notion of respect for persons has to do with treating people as having intrinsic
value in and of themselves. The first shopkeeper is only acting to reward himself
through the means of his customers. The fact that he is not rewarding customers
with honesty, but complying with the moral law in order to reward himself with a
good reputation and profit makes it so that he is not acting rightly. The second
shopkeeper, however, is acting in accordance with Kant s categorical imperative.
This shopkeeper acts in accordance with the first formulation of universalizability.
Unlike the first, the second shopkeeper is honest because he knows it is morally
right. And this passes the universalizability test since an ideal society would inhabit
people who act based on the sense of right and wrong, according to Kant. The
keeper s honesty is also reversible, because if others in a society acted out of respect
for the moral law like he is, everyone would be acting right towards one another. He
complies with the second formulation by his honesty with customers out of respect
for the moral law. He is not only using the treatment of his customers as a means for
honesty, but also as an end respect for the moral law. In other words, being honest
with his customers is not only enabling him to act morally right, but allowing him to
be evaluated as respecting the moral law (Singer 274 275). Now, a

Difference Between New England And The Chesapeake
Colonies
The difference between the colonies of New England and the Chesapeake region
were many. First, they settlers who immigrated to the new world had different
reasons for doing so. For the Chesapeake colonies, including Virginia and Maryland,
profit was the aim. After the introduction of tobacco to Europe by Columbus at the
end of the fifteenth century, there was a large and steadily growing demand for the
crop. Investors in England decided to set up colonies in the Americas for the purpose
of growing and profiting from tobacco. On the other hand, the colonies of New
England were set up primarily for religious reasons. Although there were some that
sought profit in New England, most settlers sought liberty and freedom of worship.
English separatists, who vehemently disagreed with the way the Church of England
was set up, left Holland and came to America on the Mayflower. They landed in
modern Massachusettsand established the Plymouth Colony. Rhode Island was also
founded on a religious basis after Roger Williams and his fellow dissenters were
exiled from Massachusetts. It became a haven for Quakers, Jews, Baptists and
members of other minority religions. A second difference in the colonies of the
Chesapeake and of New England comes in the basis of their economies. As
mentioned above, Virginia was founded in order to grow tobacco. Maryland s
foremost crop was also tobacco. Also, the way tobacco was cultivated was important
to the Chesapeake colonies. Plantation owners were in
The Tyger And The Lamb By William Blake
Everything in the universe has an opposite. This provides a balance, a push and pull,
to the world. Because of this truth, no thing that exists is entirely one thing or the
other. Every animal, object, and event that has ever existed may have had bad effects
in one situation, but good effects for another situation. And every human, by
extension, has aspects about them that can be viewed as both good and evil. In his
poems, The Tyger and, The Lamb , author William Blakeexplores the ideas of duality,
and how each thing must have an equal opposite. He uses both these poems to further
ruminate on this dichotomy and brings up many questions in the context of religion.
He seeks to point out that in the Christian belief system, all things viewed as good
and bad in the world have apparently come from the same thing: God, and yet God is
seen as being entirely good. But if that is the case, then how can God be all good if
all the evil things come from him as well? Is anything then truly evil? Or does it
just seem that way from one perspective? Blake uses these two poems in conjunction
with one another to make the reader question these things and think about what good
and evil actually mean. Blake first published, The Lamb in his poetry collection The
Songs of Innocence, and in this poem he presents a lamb as a metaphor for
innocence and goodness. In the first stanza, the poem repeatedly asks, Little lamb,
who made thee? / Dost thou know who made thee? (LI. 1 2). This question

can clearly see the motherboard. You may be able to do this by hand, but it might
require a screwdriver. 6.Discharge any static to prevent the damage of any of the
computer components, you can do this by touching and plug with an earth wire or
touching a water tap. 7.If you are upgrading to a new RAM you will have to

Sheila Mant Quotes
I have read the short story Sheila Mant by W.D. Wetherell. In this story a fourteen
year old boy likes a girl and asks her to go to a concert with him. He takes her there
on a canoe and encounters a dilemma when he has to choose between Sheila and the
bass. In this journal, I will be predicting whether the boy will chose Sheila or the bass.

The boy knows all about largemouth bass, even their scientific name. He also has
all the name brand equipment for fishing such as Pflueger and Rapala. The name
brand equipment is important because it must mean he is extremely committed to
fishing. The last reason he might choose the bass is because he is extremely
dedicated to fishing. As the text states, I say automatically, because I never went
anywhere that summer without a fishing rod (Wetherell 2). The boy was
constantly fishing or practicing his casts. Fishing was not something he had to
think about, it was just instinct to grab his rod anytime he went somewhere.
Fishing for bass is tremendously automatic for the boy. Secondly, the other
decision the boy might make is to pick Sheila. He might select Sheila because he
creeps on her constantly. As explained in the story, I had learned all her moods. If
she lay flat on the diving board...Sitting up, arms tucked around her long, suntanned
legs, she was approachable (Wetherell 1). The boy was regularly creeping on Sheila
and learning all her poses. He would try to spy on her parties. He might pick

In 1993, she wrote an article titled The Five Sexes ; this piece demonstrated how
two sexes was not a wide enough spectrum to include all people. She suggested that
there are five sexes: female, male, herms, merms, and ferms. This article outraged
Conservative Christians, while others felt a sense of relief. After that article, she began

This was a problem because they only judged the babies on their external genitalia,
not their hormones or chromosomes. In more recent days there are clinics that
specialize in the treatment for intersex babies. John money was in charge of this new

He suggested that the surgeons should do the surgery that makes the most sense for
each child, and then the parents should raise them to be the gender that the doctors
surgically transformed them into. He thought his treatments were working until one
of his patients became an author and told the story of his life. Since John/Joan lost
his male parts at birth, Dr. money gave him female genitals and suggested he be
raised as a girl. The problem was he wanted to be a man. John/Joan s story sparked
other people to speak up about their rejected sex assignments. Next, McCullough
gave a speech at LWPES that argued all the forms of intersexuality should be seen as
normal, and doctors should avoid irreversible assignments. The author Sterling
believes that treatment should be ethical and medical principles with a more casual

increased its positions in September and October in ICE contracts and as a results
increased their overall positions in natural gas. The events that followed in late
August and September led to huge losses with Amaranth losing significant value.
The losses were created due to overconfidence, lack of transparency, and lack of risk
management. Amaranth enjoyed huge profits and thought prices would just keep
rising. There was no communication between Hunter and the management team.
Also, investors had no knowledge that the majority of the portfolio was invested in
natural gas positions. Leverage played a huge role in the losses. A hedgefund will
typically borrow money, with certain funds borrowing sums many times greater than
the initial investment. If a hedge fund has borrowed $9 for every $1 received from
investors, a loss of only 10% of the value of the investments of the hedge fund will
wipe out 100% of the value of the investor s stake in the fund, once the creditors have
called in their loans.

William Butler Yeats The Cap and Bells Essay
William Butler Yeats The Cap and Bells
William Butler Yeats s ballad The Cap and Bells depicts the behavior of love
through an allegorical account of actions between a jester and a queen. Through
the use of many symbolic references, the dramatic characters accurately reflect a
lover s conduct. Referring to jester like men throughout many of his works ( A
Coat , The Fool by the Roadside , Two Songs of a Fool , The Hour Glass , etc.),
Yeats continually portrays the actions of humans as foolish many a times. Coming to
him in a dream, The Cap and Bells likely acquired its origin from the obsessive
infatuation Yeats had with Maud Gonne. Being an acclaimed actress, Yeats most
likely perceived Gonne exceeding him in status; her ... Show more content on

The garden is also important in that it was the first place of affection and romance
between man and woman (Eden). As the garden falls still , Yeats also depicts the
harmony between nature and love; no disturbances occur. Continuing, we read how
the jester bade his soul rise upward. Here, the man is offering his soul to rise to the
queen who is above him both physically and in social status. It rises in a straight
blue garment until it reaches her window sill. With the color blue being indicative
of hope and truth, Yeats implies that the soul retains an outer covering of hope as it
rises. The soul does not rise in a curve like manner, but is instead straight, direct,
and uninterrupted by any forces which may sway its course. The window sill
becomes symbolic of the queen s spirit. As the jester s soul rises to the ledge, it
hopes the queen s spirit will allow him to enter. As Yeats explains the owls who
began to call , dualistic meanings develop; the obvious one being that night has
fallen. On the contrary, this idea also implies the symbolism behind the wisdom of
the owl. In Webster s dictionary, call has an alternative meaning of finding fault .
Therefore, an attentive reader can distinguish that the owls are giving a wise warning
to the jester about giving his soul to the woman. Although Yeats does not directly
state this notion, his poetic hand constantly relates a simple idea into a
Chemoprevention Essay
Chemoprevention is assigned by either selecting prevention of esophageal acid
exposure using proton pump inhibitor (PPI) therapy or modulation of pro
inflammatory mechanisms45. Proton pump inhibitors (PPIs) are used generally in
the handling of acid related disorders. They function by permanently obstructing the
hydrogen/potassium adenosine triphosphatase enzyme system (the H+/K+ ATPase,
or, more frequently, the gastric proton pump) of the gastric parietal cells. The proton
pump is the terminal stage in gastric acidsecretion and is directly accountable for
secreting H+ ions into the gastric lumen, leading the pump to be an excellent target
for preventing acid secretion. Targeting the terminal step in acid production, as well
as the irreversible nature of the inhibition, results in a class of drugs that are
considerably more efficient than H2... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Antony and Cleopatra by William Shakespeare
Throughout Shakespeare s Antony and Cleopatra, readers are constantly thrown in
the middle of a battle between Roman and Egyptian values. Antony, a noble warrior
for the Romans, is the character that seems to have the most trouble between this
dichotomy. He is constantly caught between reason (Rome) and passion (Egypt) and
has a difficult time making the transitions. Cleopatra is the character that stays most
true to her roots, but begins adopting the other side s values toward the end of the
story. She makes a smoother transition than Antony, which can be attributed to her
self confidence and open minded spirit. Antony is a constant source of back and forth
commotion while Cleopatra seems to posses Egyptian qualities until the end of the...

Although much rage from Antony caused him to threaten to kill her, Cleopatra had
seduced Antony through her sexualized actions and personality so much in their time
together that Antony quickly forgave Cleopatra when he received news she was
dead. In a contrasting view, Cleopatra s decision to betray Antony twice in battle can
also be seen as a Roman action that signifies strong dominance and influence.
Although it was a decision that hurt the Romans, she took on the masculine role of
the Romans and led them to their loss. When Cleopatra decided to betray Antony, not
once but twice, she made a decision that took initiative, leadership, and masculinity
that are all characteristics of the Romans. Another way in which Cleopatra expresses
this inner dominance is through her power over Antony throughout the entire book.
While maybe not seen as a Roman quality at the beginning because Egyptians tend to
portray femininity, Cleopatra s actions towards Antony go far beyond femininity and
into supremacy. Whether it was through her charm and sexual manipulation to
control Antony in his decisions, her persuasive powers to regain his trust and
forgiveness after her betrayals, or her structured view on how Antony should treat
her, Cleopatra undoubtedly dominated the relationship. As the story ends, Cleopatra
possesses reason, a Roman quality, in her decision to kill herself. While many may
argue this was an Egyptian action, it

Dante’s, The Divine Comedy
In Dante s, The Divine Comedy, Virgil leads Dante through the Inferno, where
Dante undergoes changes in his compassion. I am going to argue that Dante
expresses less compassion during his journey when Virgil leads him through the

the Inferno compared to the end of the Inferno. Dante is being a coward by
thinking he is unable to make his journey: I d be too slow had I obeyed by now.

the day ahead had come, and heard my sons (my little ones were there) cry in their

now they all had woken up. The time was due when, as routine, our food was
brought, Yet each was doubt, thinking of their dream. Listening, I heard the door
below locked shut, then nailed in place against that dreadful tower, I looked in
their dear faces, spoke no word. I did not weep. Inward, I turned to stone. They

Analysis Of Nora Helmer In A Doll s House
In Hedrick Ibsen s, A Doll s House , Nora Helmer is deceptive to nearly every
character in the play. Not only does she forge her father s signature, but also lies to
her husband about it, refuses to reveal where she obtained it from and continues to
add more lies on to avoid being discovered and having to face her consequences.
Her constant deceitful actions are committed initially to prove herself as reliable
and independent, unlike how women were seen as in her era, but escalated to
simply to cover up her signature forgery. One bad decision she took for her own
pleasure was not enough for Nora. Each action and decision she took inevitably gave

Nora s immaturity deemed it necessary to forge his signature. Doing this proves
that Nora has never really recognized what is acceptable in society and sets the
tone for her behavior throughout the rest of the story. Krogstad, who was
convicted previously of forgery, was not fooled by Nora s antics, pressuring and
blackmailing her into getting his position back in the bank. Nora attempted to
influence and manipulate Mr. Helmer yet again, but failing miserably, leaving her
the option of accepting her fate. Despite that, she decides to postpone the process
by pretending to be needing Torvald for any little issue to avoid him reading
Krogstad s letter which contains an explanation of Nora s actions. This selfish and
degrading action is the key moment in which Nora exposes her true immature and
egocentric self. Nora was not the person initially thought to be. She was not ever
truthful to her selfless and trusting husband and never truly cared for him even if
she tried to disguise her trip by claiming it was only for her husband s well being.
Her last and most desperate action taken is to leave her family but is discovered
before she got the chance. Although Ibsen s play was meant for entertainment, it
opens into a more wholesome meaning of selfishness and narcissism of individuals
who are attached to money and their own pleasures regardless of who they have to
disobey or trick. Nora s constant actions and only regret for

When we need something the Earth provides, but in return we must protect the Earth.
The Earth provides us with the things that we essentially need in order for us to
survive. This is what connects us to the land that we are currently living on.
The land that we are living on is very important. We should also be very careful of
what we do with it also, because just like us we are both fragile. One bullet, just one
single bullet can kill not one, but two people (humans). Such as a match, one small,
simple thing can cause a wildfire, creating a huge amount of damage.
The Earth is very, very important. The land that connects to the Earth is also
important. The land is our life so we should take care of our land. This is why we
have this amazing bond with the land that we are living on. Every person on Earth
shares the responsibility to do as much as they can to preserve the planet s finite
natural resources today and for future generations.
Natural resources are those components of the environment which are inherently
created by environment for supporting life. These resources are very essential for
sustaining life on earth. These resources are available in the form of air, water,
mineral, soil, forest, plant, energy etc.
Many people might disagree, why we don t have the connection between the land
and us is because you may say that I don t see it , of course people might not see it,
many people would either be distracted by the things around us and we as the
Lee Brice Concert Critique
Concert I attended a concert of Lee Brice, about 1 year ago. It was opened by Kelly
Clarkson who I personally wasn t that impressed by, because it wasn t the type of
genre I was into, she was a little bit more pop than she was country. After her if was
followed up by Cam who is a very very good country singer, who puts a lot of
emotioninto her singingand her songwriting. One thing that stood out to me is that
she could hold notes basically forever and that she didn t change pitch that much
during her song. Which I find is pretty cool when you can have songs that top the
charts without trying very hard to change pitches of octaves. You can tell the
difference between her recorded song and her during the concert, it feels like a
different
Theme Of An Occurrence At Owl Creek Bridge
The story of An Occurrence at Owl Creek Bridge expresses a dark theme with
attention to death, mental deterioration, time distortion, and forces beyond nature.
These themes are commonly demonstrated by the author, Ambrose Bierce, a civil
war veteran. Bierce also tends to incorporate his own experiences during the war
into his works as a writer. As he fought in the battle of Shiloh, he came across a
waterway known as Owl Creek. Consequently, he was captured in Northern Alabama
by Confederate soldiers but escaped successfully. The events that took place during
this part of the civil war greatly influenced and therefore laid the foundation for the
author to write the story of Owl Creek Bridge. Peyton Farquhar, the protagonist in the
story, was faced with many obstacles throughout the plot s development. Although
Farquhar was threatened to be hung by Confederate soldiers, he never failed to
imagine the best scenario to improve his imminent situation. The only difference
between stepping stones and stumbling blocks is how you use them . In Owl Creek
Bridge, Peyton Farquhar dealt with many obstacles thrown in his path and used them
to make the best out of his dire circumstances. Farquhar owned a large plantation in
Alabama, and was a very successful planter for his high class, imperious, southern
family. Being a slave owner, he was politically submerged in the Southern cause.
However, he was unable to fight for the south in the war, and he desperately wanted
to contribute in
Personal Team Effectiveness Individual Assessment
Introduction
Bruce W. Tuckman is an educational psychologist from Princeton University. In
1960 s, he proposed Tuckman s Stages of Team Development. It is widely known as
a basis for effective team building. It is describes four stages of useful development:
forming, storming, norming and performing. In the 1970 s, Tuckman and other
authors have added adjourning as the fifth stage. Tuckman s model explains that as
the team s growth, ability and building the relationship. However, this is the most
frequently cited if compared to the other models of group development that have been
proposed. Every team has to go through these stages so that their work can do
smoothly, completely and perfectly. (Alan Chapman, 2009)

During stage 3, team relations are featuring by cohesion between team members.

each other, and have an appreciation for each other s skills. They are now fully

and agree about the others for the purpose of the team can move on. Commitment
and unity is strong. They become more co operative and start to agree on individual
responsibilities. Some decisions are made by the team agreement. Whereas, small
decisions can be consign to the team member. Leadership is shared, facilitates, and
factions dissolution. Thus, this stage is important because individual share feelings
and opinion, give feedback to each other, and search the information related to the
task. They are happy to being a part of the team. (David A. Buchanan, 2010)

Managing systems and people in the accounting environment
Report writing guide for unit 10
FrancescaHarper MAAT, recently completed her unit 10 project.
My biggest recommendation is to set yourself a deadline to complete your project. I
did this, based on when I was taking my final AAT exams, and it gave me the drive to
not let unit 10 linger. I had to give it one final push. After all, I d worked so hard
over the past two and a half years why fall at the final hurdle?

Workplace mentor
We recommend that you arrange for someone to be a workplace mentor. If you re
currently working in an accounting role, you should receive support and guidance
from your employer as well as your assessor throughout the development of your
project. They will also have a greater understanding about your chosen topic than your
assessor can have.
Your mentor does not have to be your manager but should be someone who can help
you through your project, providing both technical and motivational support. Try to
make sure that your mentor is involved in your work from the outset and understands
the standards and timescales you re working to. They may be able to offer guidance
on suitable ideas for the project by identifying current problems
Femininity In The Sea Wolf
In Jack London s, The Sea Wolf, Humphrey Van Weyden embarks on a compelling
journey that teaches him about survival and independency. Throughout the novel
readers can see how the men aboard The Ghost fall under the dominance of the
powerful and barbaric Wolf Larsen. On this ship, Van Weyden not only discovers his
masculinity, but also realizes that people who are not self reliant don t stand a
chance in the existing world. Additionally, after the arrival of Maud Brewster, Van
Weyden is exposed to his own femininityand also learns what it feels like when
another human life depends on you. Besides being exposed to femininity, Van
Weyden is also introduced to the cruel ways that men live when they lack the
presence of a female figure. He learns that crueltyfunctions as a motivation to express
dominance and savagery that is usually concealed in a presence of a woman. In The
Sea Wolf, Jack London uses the motif of cruelty to develop themes of masculinity and
femininity by highlighting that cruelty limits men from regarding their feminine
emotions, allows people to showcase their dominance and superiority over things,
and by exclaiming that it is a way for people to escape pain, or fnd pleasure. In the
novel, London uses the motif of cruelty to develop the theme of femininity by
showcasing that cruelty limits men from regarding their feminine emotions. Over the
years, the general stereotype about women has been that they get too emotionally
involved in a situation. Through the majority of the novel, the people aboard The
Ghost are only men, thus lacking sympathy and care for another. Prior to the arrival
of Brewster, savagery and inhumanity was key to surviving on a ship full of men.
Although most of the men aboard the ship participated in revealing their masculinity
others, like Van Weyden, stayed back and observed, I cannot give the particulars of
the horrible scene that followed. It was too revolting. It turns me sick now when I
think of it (92). The previous quote supports the argument that cruelty limits men
from regarding their feminine emotions because it shows that the inhumanity Van
Weyden witnessed left him fearful; he was left damaged, simply by watching. As
proven, it is clear that these inhumane
The Impact Of Marxist Theory On The Development Of...
The focus of this assignment will be on the influence of the Marxist theory in the
development of criminology. Marxism is a top down, structuralist, macro
approach which means it is a theory in which those on top question the actions of
those on the bottom and where individuals fit in the structure of society, this theory
is widely supported. A main talking point in the Marxist theory is capitalism; this is
an economic and political system in which a country s trade and industry are
controlled by the private sector for profit, rather than by the state (public sector).
Another key talking point in the Marxist theory is that laws benefit the powerful
and agencies help control and target blue collar crime (working class crime) as
opposed to what Marxists refer to as the huge dark side of white collar crime (upper
class/corporate crime). Some main supporters of Marxismare; Lauren Snider, William
Chambliss and Hazel Croall. However there are many other theories which challenge
the Marxist approach such as; functionalism, labelling theory and Left Right Realism.
When looking in further detail of Marxism we see the key concepts involved are;
alienation, white collar crime, scapegoating, repressive state apparatus, hegemony,
resistance, etc. To start alienation is the belief that the actions of the rich and
powerful (such as the politicians and businessmen) counteract the best interests of the
people at the heart of their community, meaning that there is a great divide between
The Lilly Valentine Series
The Lilly Valentine series is a series of novels by Helen Black a child lawyer cum
author of crime fiction novels for children and young adults. Damaged Goods was
the first novel that Black published in the series in 2008. With the first novel
proving a highly popular mystery all over the world, the author wrote four more
titles featuring Lilly Valentine as the lead character. The novels are influenced by
the authors love for the blood and gore genre of writing having grown up reading
Karin Slaughter, Fyodor Dostoyevsky, and Mark Billingham. As a lawyer with a
love for the law and a sense of justice for the weak, most of the Lilly Valentine series

The Argentinian Economic Crisis ( 2001-2002 )
The Argentinian Economic Crisis (2001 2002)
INTRODUTION
In what is considered as one of the worst crisis for a nation, Argentina has suffered
significantly over the years and was caught yet again by a financial crisis in 2001.
Over the short period of 1998 to 2001, the Argentine economy has lost almost 20
percent of its GDP (Figure 1) while the poverty has risen to an astonishing 42.3%
percent (2001) from an already high figure of 18.2% in 1998 (Weisbrot and
Sandoval).

/argentina_recovery_2007_10.pdf
This financial crisis was not a sudden event; in fact this crisis has its roots dug deep
into the long history of a turbulent Argentine economy. In terms of growth, in the
early twentieth centaury, Argentina could boast of outperforming most Latin
American nations. More over, as The Economist reports, by 1913 Argentina was
among the world s ten richest countries, ahead of even France and Germany, with an
annual average growth of 5% every year over the previous three decades. However,
after the First World War, the Argentine economy faced a steep decline and by 1989
the country s inflation rate went soaring high (Figure 2)

The Determinants Of Potential Of Susceptibility Essay
Developed determinants of susceptibility are just as dangerous, if not more, as innate
determinants of susceptibility. When groups with preexisting respiratory diseases
including chronic obstructive pulmonary disorder or asthma inhale fine particulate
matter, it irritates and inflames the lungs and airways ( Air pollutionand asthma ,
2015). This makes deep breathing difficult and forces the lungs and associated
breathing muscles to work harder and faster in order to provide the body and its
tissues with adequate amounts of oxygen to function normally. When groups with
preexisting cardiovascular diseases including hypertension, heart failure, coronary
heart disease, or stroke inhale fine particulatematter, it inflames the heart, arteries,
and other vessels ( Air Pollution and Heart Disease, 2016). This significantly
increases the risk of stroke, arrhythmias, hypertension, atherosclerosis, and heart
failure. PM2.5 also plays a role in causing plaques in vessels to rupture which can
trigger a heart attack. Since the heart has inefficient functioning due to the increased
demand and workload that air pollution presents to it, it must pump harder and faster
in order to provide the body and its tissues with adequate perfusion of blood to
function normally. According to Rajagopalan (2012), diabetic patients have
previously been shown to be more susceptible to air pollution induced cardiovascular
morbidity and mortality because fine particulate matter decreases vascular
Who Is A Saved Believer In The Army
Some people are soldiers, but most people are civilians. Some people are saved, while
most people are lost. A civilian becomes a soldier when he is enlisted in the army.
A person becomes enlisted in God s army when he is saved by receiving Jesus as
his Lord and Saviour. When we receive our salvation, we also receive the burden to
seek and save the lost, by leading others to Jesus Christ and helping them to walk the
paths of righteousness.
A person that is genuinely saved will no longer live for his own cause, but for the
cause of Jesus Christ. He will not live according to his own will, but according to the
will of his Heavenly Father, therefore a saved believer in Jesus Christ is also a soldier
of Jesus Christ. There are only a few that are saved, while there are many that are
perishing.
They perish for the reason that those that are enlisted as soldiers in God s army are
cowards and instead of fighting the battle, they have turned cold and have lost their
way. Sadly, Christians are not aware of their battle, they have no clue on which side
they are fighting, they have become allies with the enemy, they have deserted their
true calling, and are shooting at their own comrades in arms. ... Show more content on

Our posting may be different, our duties and gifts are not the same, but our job is
to do His will and walk according to our calling. The role of a soldier is primarily
to complete the mission that is assigned to him or her. Our mission is to do the
will of our Heavenly Father. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations,
baptising them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and
teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you
always, to the very end of the age. (Matthew 28: 19 20
Genocide and the Propaganda Media Essay
To many Americans, the feeling of being a bystander as countries slaughter their
own people has been in legal debate since 1933, it has gradually developed into a
concept that can be applied in many situations, both historical and contemporary.
The meaning of the phrase genocide is the cleansing of a race or ethnicity in a
country. There has been evidence that this phrase can be used to describe past and
present day massacres being committed around the world and how media has
changed its perception on this issue overtime. Propaganda tries to force a doctrine
on the whole people... Propaganda works on the general public from the standpoint
of an idea and makes them ripe for the victory of this idea. ( Adolf Hitler, Mein
Kampf, 1926).... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Most people didn t know what was going on, and people didn t really know where
Jews and gypsies etc. were going, all they knew was that they were being removed.
When word and photographs got out into the public view about what happened in
these camps, everyone is shocked to see so many dead bodies. With the role of
media, the international response to the war crimes in the Holocaust was to establish
an international tribunal and it was agreed to punish those responsible of crimes.
Throughout World War II, the American media published and broadcasted detailed
accounts of what was happening to the Jews in Europe. Articles published
propagation of anti Semitic laws in German allied countries; death from disease and
starvation of hundreds of thousands in ghettos and labor camps; mass executions in
Nazi occupied Russia; and mass gassings. The articles also indicated that these were
not incidents, but part of a systematic campaign to kill all the Jews in Europe The
1994 Rwandan genocide presented one of the most horrific crimes against humanity
since the Holocaust of World War II. In addition, it was also the first tragedy of its
kind with the opportunity to be represented in full by the media. Media played a
different role here than in the Holocaust, providing large coverage of the atrocities
taking place Remarkably, during a genocide that claimed as many as a million lives,
this is one of the only times a killing is

The Devil in the White City, Erik Larson
Prologue
The prologue begin aboard the Olympic following a man named Daniel Burnham
on April 4, 1912. Burnham is suffering of severe pain in his foot. Burnham tries to
send a message to his friend Millet who is aboard the Titanic, but the message was
not allowed to be sent. Burnham thinks back to the fair and reminisces of the people
that helped with the fair and thinks about who is still alive from the fair.
Part 1 The first chapter introduces Chicago, in the 1800s as a place where flocks of
single women are coming to Chicago looking for jobs. This city was described as
very unsafe. Two people a day, on average, died at railroad crossings, disease was

Inaccuracies In The Movie 42
The movie 42 is all about Jackie Robinson and his experience playing in the major
leagues. Robinson started on first base for the Dodgers, being the first team to
play a black player in the since the 1880 s. Jackie Robinson and the Dodgers broke
down a lot of barriers for African Americans in the MLB. In the movie it shows his
struggles that he went through during the season. There were some changes in the
film from what actually happened in real life, but its Hollywood what do you
expect. One error I did find in the film was when Robinson was hit in the head with
a pitch thrown by Fritz Ostermueller. The pitch really did hit him, but not in the
head. The pitch actually hit him on the elbow. Although the pitch could very well
have hit him in the face though, if he didn t raise his arm to protect himself. Fritz
was ordered to take Robinson out, and he sure did try. Overall Robinson ended up
getting hit nine times in his rookie season. Another inaccuracy I found was when
Jackie was smashing his bat in the tunnel behind the Dodgers dugout. That scene
never actually happened in real life, but the racial slurs from Phillies manager Ben
Chapman, which caused this scene, did happen. Also, Dodger s manager Branch
Rickey never consoled Jackie after this attack by Chapmen. Chapman made the press

  • 4. Social and Economic Decline in the Western Roman Empire Essay By the fourth century, the Roman Empire had developed exponentially with significant growth in cultural, social, and political activity. Leading up to the Battle of Adrianople of 378 AD, the Empire suffered significant division and its once uniform body began to splinter. After multiple attempts to unify the empire, the East and the West grew increasingly independent. The battle proved a critical turning point in the prominence of the West significantly foreshadowing its future. While the declining reputation of Rome was apparent long before the battle itself, it was clear that the Roman defeat at Adrianople significantly contributed to the Western Empire s gradual disintegration as the dominance of the East thrived. The Roman army numbered 30,000 as the Germanic tribes numbered nearly 60,000 (Barbarians). The Western emperor, Valens, acted in haste attacking the Goths head on using little strategy. The Romans ill prepared army was defeated, losing two thirds of its men and even its emperor. The Roman loss at Adrianople proved very significant to the decline of the Western Empire. Being such a powerful empire, the inconsistency of leadership left the social and economic order in a state of jeopardy. ...in the course of fifty years some twenty three emperors succeeded to the imperial throne and with so many emperors, there was little sincere leadership for the success of the Empire (Barbarians 5). As Valens rose to power, he quickly became unpopular in the eyes of the people. Going into the battle, he held a firm desire for swift victory on the apparent weak opponent, and hastily sent his army with inadequate equipment because of reductions in available funds for military spending (History). The insufficient training of the army was also a predominant reason for their loss in the battle. With the economic conditions of the Empire in gradual decline, Valens did not provide his army with the necessary equipment and instruction to be victorious in the Battle of Adrianople, eventually resulting in a dreadful
  • 5. Covetousness Of God In Amadeus Moreover, Mozart s music in Amadeus is attributed to survey intricate relationship between God and humans. Through Salieri s powerful jealousy of Mozart s music and his intense blame on God, the movie proposes the issue of human s incomplete belief in God and the question about the existence of God. Salieri, in the beginning part of the movie, is presented as the profoundly religious human. He believes that God grants his faithful wish to be a successful composer so he tries to devote to his God earnestly. However, after the appearance of Mozart in his life, Salieri starts to distrust God and commit blasphemy. Salieri s emotion of detestation for God resulted from the severe jealousy of Mozart leads him to revenge for God and to break officially his tie with God in the end. The revenge for God and his incarnation Mozart begins in the scene that Constanze the wife of Mozart visits Salieri again in a late night to request his recommendation for her husband to teach Princess Elizabeth. In the movie, when Constanze takes off her dress for a trade with Salieri, the tune of Mass in C Minor K. 427, Kyrie whose lyrics mean Lord have mercy upon us is played. • 7. Intern Nation By Ross Perlin Intern Nation by Ross Perlin tells you most everything you ever wanted to know about internships and then some. Equal parts history lesson, tell all and personal commentary, this should be assigned reading for anyone considering taking part in an internship. It has been coded into the minds of the young job seekers today that they must first work for free if they ever hope to find a good paying position. Perlin sends the necessary message though that the system that has been put in place to make this possible is cracked and presents a bad deal for internshipseeking individual. Perlin recounts that most internships are filled with less than fulfilling fun work such as errands and clean up duty. This seems to provoke outrage and bitterness on his behalf. On this point I have to say that I agree and disagree with him. In the case of my internship I worked on some things that furthered my skill set, but mostly on administrative reporting and lists of media contacts. However, I have to say that as far as tales of workplace hardships go, mine were not particularly horrible. There is boring work that is necessary for all businesses to succeed and who better to do it than the lowest man on the totem pole the guy who doesn t have the skills to do anything else and has yet to earn the privilege of doing more important work. Yes, I ran errands and mostly did the repetitive work of compiling administrative reports and media lists. This was the basis that must be laid if there is to

Another issue that arose was the children with special needs or older children that people didn t want. As the foster system grew, it began to experience setbacks. There were now more children needing homes than available homes. The foster care system became full of problems. Foster parents started to complain about not having an adequate support system. The second one is honest because he thinks it is right and exercises his respect for the moral law. The first shopkeeper is motivated to be honest by the rewards of a positive reputation and profit. The second is motivated by respect for morally right action. Taking these motivations into consideration from the standpoint of Kantian ethics, it is clear which shopkeeper is acting right. The first shopkeeper is only acting to reward himself through the means of his customers. The fact that he is not rewarding customers with honesty, but complying with the moral law in order to reward himself with a good reputation and profit makes it so that he is not acting rightly. The second shopkeeper, however, is acting in accordance with Kant s categorical imperative. This shopkeeper acts in accordance with the first formulation of universalizability. Unlike the first, the second shopkeeper is honest because he knows it is morally right. And this passes the universalizability test since an ideal society would inhabit people who act based on the sense of right and wrong, according to Kant. The keeper s honesty is also reversible, because if others in a society acted out of respect for the moral law like he is, everyone would be acting right towards one another. He complies with the second formulation by his honesty with customers out of respect for the moral law. He is not only using the treatment of his customers as a means for honesty, but also as an end respect for the moral law. In other words, being honest with his customers is not only enabling him to act morally right, but allowing him to be evaluated as respecting the moral law (Singer 274 275). Now, a

  • 20. Difference Between New England And The Chesapeake Colonies The difference between the colonies of New England and the Chesapeake region were many. First, they settlers who immigrated to the new world had different reasons for doing so. For the Chesapeake colonies, including Virginia and Maryland, profit was the aim. After the introduction of tobacco to Europe by Columbus at the end of the fifteenth century, there was a large and steadily growing demand for the crop. Investors in England decided to set up colonies in the Americas for the purpose of growing and profiting from tobacco. On the other hand, the colonies of New England were set up primarily for religious reasons. Although there were some that sought profit in New England, most settlers sought liberty and freedom of worship. English separatists, who vehemently disagreed with the way the Church of England was set up, left Holland and came to America on the Mayflower. They landed in modern Massachusettsand established the Plymouth Colony. Rhode Island was also founded on a religious basis after Roger Williams and his fellow dissenters were exiled from Massachusetts. It became a haven for Quakers, Jews, Baptists and members of other minority religions. A second difference in the colonies of the Chesapeake and of New England comes in the basis of their economies. As mentioned above, Virginia was founded in order to grow tobacco. Maryland s foremost crop was also tobacco. Also, the way tobacco was cultivated was important to the Chesapeake colonies. • 21. The Tyger And The Lamb By William Blake Everything in the universe has an opposite. This provides a balance, a push and pull, to the world. Because of this truth, no thing that exists is entirely one thing or the other. Every animal, object, and event that has ever existed may have had bad effects in one situation, but good effects for another situation. And every human, by extension, has aspects about them that can be viewed as both good and evil. In his poems, The Tyger and, The Lamb , author William Blakeexplores the ideas of duality, and how each thing must have an equal opposite. He uses both these poems to further ruminate on this dichotomy and brings up many questions in the context of religion. He seeks to point out that in the Christian belief system, all things viewed as good and bad in the world have apparently come from the same thing: God, and yet God is seen as being entirely good. But if that is the case, then how can God be all good if all the evil things come from him as well? Is anything then truly evil? Or does it just seem that way from one perspective? Blake uses these two poems in conjunction with one another to make the reader question these things and think about what good and evil actually mean. Blake first published, The Lamb in his poetry collection The Songs of Innocence, and in this poem he presents a lamb as a metaphor for innocence and goodness. In the first stanza, the poem repeatedly asks, Little lamb, who made thee? / Dost thou know who made thee? (LI. 1 2). This question

Referring to jester like men throughout many of his works ( A Coat , The Fool by the Roadside , Two Songs of a Fool , The Hour Glass , etc.), Yeats continually portrays the actions of humans as foolish many a times. The garden is also important in that it was the first place of affection and romance between man and woman (Eden). Here, the man is offering his soul to rise to the queen who is above him both physically and in social status. It rises in a straight blue garment until it reaches her window sill. With the color blue being indicative of hope and truth, Yeats implies that the soul retains an outer covering of hope as it rises. The soul does not rise in a curve like manner, but is instead straight, direct, and uninterrupted by any forces which may sway its course. The window sill becomes symbolic of the queen s spirit. As the jester s soul rises to the ledge, it hopes the queen s spirit will allow him to enter. As Yeats explains the owls who began to call , dualistic meanings develop; the obvious one being that night has fallen. On the contrary, this idea also implies the symbolism behind the wisdom of the owl. In Webster s dictionary, call has an alternative meaning of finding fault . Therefore, an attentive reader can distinguish that the owls are giving a wise warning to the jester about giving his soul to the woman. Although Yeats does not directly state this notion, his poetic hand constantly relates a simple idea into a

Chemoprevention Essay Chemoprevention is assigned by either selecting prevention of esophageal acid exposure using proton pump inhibitor (PPI) therapy or modulation of pro inflammatory mechanisms45. Proton pump inhibitors (PPIs) are used generally in the handling of acid related disorders. They function by permanently obstructing the hydrogen/potassium adenosine triphosphatase enzyme system (the H+/K+ ATPase, or, more frequently, the gastric proton pump) of the gastric parietal cells. The proton pump is the terminal stage in gastric acidsecretion and is directly accountable for secreting H+ ions into the gastric lumen, leading the pump to be an excellent target for preventing acid secretion. Although it was a decision that hurt the Romans, she took on the masculine role of the Romans and led them to their loss. When Cleopatra decided to betray Antony, not once but twice, she made a decision that took initiative, leadership, and masculinity that are all characteristics of the Romans. Another way in which Cleopatra expresses this inner dominance is through her power over Antony throughout the entire book. Whether it was through her charm and sexual manipulation to control Antony in his decisions, her persuasive powers to regain his trust and forgiveness after her betrayals, or her structured view on how Antony should treat her, Cleopatra undoubtedly dominated the relationship. The time was due when, as routine, our food was brought, Yet each was doubt, thinking of their dream. Listening, I heard the door below locked shut, then nailed in place against that dreadful tower, I looked in their dear faces, spoke no word. I did not weep. Inward, I turned to stone. They wept. And then my boy Anselmo spoke: What are you staring at? Father, what s wrong? Not only does she forge her father s signature, but also lies to her husband about it, refuses to reveal where she obtained it from and continues to add more lies on to avoid being discovered and having to face her consequences. Her constant deceitful actions are committed initially to prove herself as reliable and independent, unlike how women were seen as in her era, but escalated to simply to cover up her signature forgery. Nora s immaturity deemed it necessary to forge his signature. Doing this proves that Nora has never really recognized what is acceptable in society and sets the tone for her behavior throughout the rest of the story. Krogstad, who was convicted previously of forgery, was not fooled by Nora s antics, pressuring and blackmailing her into getting his position back in the bank. Nora attempted to influence and manipulate Mr. Helmer yet again, but failing miserably, leaving her the option of accepting her fate. Despite that, she decides to postpone the process by pretending to be needing Torvald for any little issue to avoid him reading Krogstad s letter which contains an explanation of Nora s actions. This selfish and degrading action is the key moment in which Nora exposes her true immature and egocentric self. Nora was not the person initially thought to be. She was not ever truthful to her selfless and trusting husband and never truly cared for him even if she tried to disguise her trip by claiming it was only for her husband s well being. Her last and most desperate action taken is to leave her family but is discovered before she got the chance. Although Ibsen s play was meant for entertainment, it opens into a more wholesome meaning of selfishness and narcissism of individuals who are attached to money and their own pleasures regardless of who they have to disobey or trick. Nora s constant actions and only regret for

Theme Of An Occurrence At Owl Creek Bridge The story of An Occurrence at Owl Creek Bridge expresses a dark theme with attention to death, mental deterioration, time distortion, and forces beyond nature. These themes are commonly demonstrated by the author, Ambrose Bierce, a civil war veteran. Bierce also tends to incorporate his own experiences during the war into his works as a writer. As he fought in the battle of Shiloh, he came across a waterway known as Owl Creek. Consequently, he was captured in Northern Alabama by Confederate soldiers but escaped successfully. The events that took place during this part of the civil war greatly influenced and therefore laid the foundation for the author to write the story of Owl Creek Bridge. Peyton Farquhar, the protagonist in the story, was faced with many obstacles throughout the plot s development. Although Farquhar was threatened to be hung by Confederate soldiers, he never failed to imagine the best scenario to improve his imminent situation. The only difference between stepping stones and stumbling blocks is how you use them . In Owl Creek Bridge, Peyton Farquhar dealt with many obstacles thrown in his path and used them to make the best out of his dire circumstances. Farquhar owned a large plantation in Alabama, and was a very successful planter for his high class, imperious, southern family. Being a slave owner, he was politically submerged in the Southern cause. However, he was unable to fight for the south in the war, and he desperately wanted to contribute in

Throughout the novel readers can see how the men aboard The Ghost fall under the dominance of the powerful and barbaric Wolf Larsen. On this ship, Van Weyden not only discovers his masculinity, but also realizes that people who are not self reliant don t stand a chance in the existing world. Additionally, after the arrival of Maud Brewster, Van Weyden is exposed to his own femininityand also learns what it feels like when another human life depends on you. Besides being exposed to femininity, Van Weyden is also introduced to the cruel ways that men live when they lack the presence of a female figure. He learns that crueltyfunctions as a motivation to express dominance and savagery that is usually concealed in a presence of a woman. In The Sea Wolf, Jack London uses the motif of cruelty to develop themes of masculinity and femininity by highlighting that cruelty limits men from regarding their feminine emotions, allows people to showcase their dominance and superiority over things, and by exclaiming that it is a way for people to escape pain, or fnd pleasure. In the novel, London uses the motif of cruelty to develop the theme of femininity by showcasing that cruelty limits men from regarding their feminine emotions. Over the years, the general stereotype about women has been that they get too emotionally involved in a situation. Through the majority of the novel, the people aboard The Ghost are only men, thus lacking sympathy and care for another. Prior to the arrival of Brewster, savagery and inhumanity was key to surviving on a ship full of men. Although most of the men aboard the ship participated in revealing their masculinity others, like Van Weyden, stayed back and observed, I cannot give the particulars of the horrible scene that followed. It was too revolting. It turns me sick now when I think of it (92). The previous quote supports the argument that cruelty limits men from regarding their feminine emotions because it shows that the inhumanity Van Weyden witnessed left him fearful; he was left damaged, simply by watching. As proven, it is clear that these inhumane

Marxism is a top down, structuralist, macro approach which means it is a theory in which those on top question the actions of those on the bottom and where individuals fit in the structure of society, this theory is widely supported. A main talking point in the Marxist theory is capitalism; this is an economic and political system in which a country s trade and industry are controlled by the private sector for profit, rather than by the state (public sector). Another key talking point in the Marxist theory is that laws benefit the powerful and agencies help control and target blue collar crime (working class crime) as opposed to what Marxists refer to as the huge dark side of white collar crime (upper class/corporate crime). Some main supporters of Marxismare; Lauren Snider, William Chambliss and Hazel Croall. However there are many other theories which challenge the Marxist approach such as; functionalism, labelling theory and Left Right Realism. When looking in further detail of Marxism we see the key concepts involved are; alienation, white collar crime, scapegoating, repressive state apparatus, hegemony, resistance, etc. To start alienation is the belief that the actions of the rich and powerful (such as the politicians and businessmen) counteract the best interests of the people at the heart of their community, meaning that there is a great divide between

  • 48. The Determinants Of Potential Of Susceptibility Essay Developed determinants of susceptibility are just as dangerous, if not more, as innate determinants of susceptibility. When groups with preexisting respiratory diseases including chronic obstructive pulmonary disorder or asthma inhale fine particulate matter, it irritates and inflames the lungs and airways ( Air pollutionand asthma , 2015). This makes deep breathing difficult and forces the lungs and associated breathing muscles to work harder and faster in order to provide the body and its tissues with adequate amounts of oxygen to function normally. When groups with preexisting cardiovascular diseases including hypertension, heart failure, coronary heart disease, or stroke inhale fine particulatematter, it inflames the heart, arteries, and other vessels ( Air Pollution and Heart Disease, 2016). This significantly increases the risk of stroke, arrhythmias, hypertension, atherosclerosis, and heart failure. PM2.5 also plays a role in causing plaques in vessels to rupture which can trigger a heart attack. Since the heart has inefficient functioning due to the increased demand and workload that air pollution presents to it, it must pump harder and faster in order to provide the body and its tissues with adequate perfusion of blood to function normally. According to Rajagopalan (2012), diabetic patients have previously been shown to be more susceptible to air pollution induced cardiovascular morbidity and mortality because fine particulate matter decreases vascular
