Risks Of A Risk Management Process
Every day businesses face the challenge of being exposed to potential risks. Whether these risks
are internal to the company financially, damaged caused to the interior or exterior of the building
itself, or lawsuits due to liability losses, businesses have a responsibility to be prepared. There are
numerous ways for businesses to protect themselves from possible risks resulting from a loss.
Risks may also vary depending on the type of businessand operations it conducts. Not all
companies will be faced with the same challenges of protection for losses, which is why it is
important to consider a riskmanagement process. Risk management is the identification,
assessment, and prioritization of risks, followed by coordinated and economical... Show more

Insurance policies will not only help businesses financially, but also personally, being reliable to
their employees as well as keeping a strong customer base. A good example of a business that
does this is Kohl s Department Store. With a variety of different merchandise, low prices, and
quality service, Kohl s delivers to its customers with exceeding expectation. To see how Kohl s has
successfully made it to the top, a brief history of the company and achievements will provide a
foundation for the types of policies needed in order to maintain such success.
According to the Kohl s Fact Book, quarter ending in May 2010, the history and background of

Reflection On Clinical Skills Activities Essay
Introduction The last week of classes for NURS1005 were a series of clinical skills activities.
These activities refreshed the student s minds on what they will be doing on placement and
how to do it. We got assessed on three clinical skills; taking and recording vital signs, blood
glucose levels and doing a urine analysis. I ve chosen to reflect on taking vital signs and how I
performed them. Reflection is a very important part of learning from experiences which is
essential in nursing. Nursing practises continue to change and it is easier to go with and to add
to that change if you are reflecting on your practise. This essentially makes nursing practises
better for the patients. I have reflected on the process of how I took the vital signs during my
clinical skills activities. I was very nervous but believe I performed them well due to how I was
taught, what I have read and seen and the vital signs signified how my peer was acting which was
healthy and within a normal range. Even though I felt I did them well, there were improvements
that could and have happened since. Most of the improvements are minor in comparison to the
strengths I have but it is important to recognise improvements when needed so you are giving the
best and accurate care. I was aware of these improvements needed and tried to strengthen them
during my clinical placement which helped me learn different ways of doing processes and also
the rationale behind the processes. Value of personal reflection in

Flag Desecration Essay
The Flag is an honored and venerated symbol of a country. Epic wars were fought for this piece
of fabric, such as the American Civil War, or World War Two. However, some people disrespect
this, and Take it too far such as, physically destroying the flag, or desecrating the flag by burning
it down into a pulp. This is currently illegal in several major countries. I believe that desecration of
the flag is not permissible, and should stay illegal in the United States.
First of all, the flag, obviously stated in the first paragraph, is a venerated symbol of the country it
represents. Burning and desecrating the flag would signify disrespect. In the United States, the flag
is protected under the First Amendment, which stands and clearly says The Congress shall have
power to prohibit the physical desecration of the flag if you burn the flag, it is roughly the same
thing as burning down the White House intentionally. Next, debate.org claims that flag desecration
is completely negative, mainly because the flag is an honored symbol, and it is, the ... Show more

You do not personally have the right to legally make threats such as desecrating a symbol that is
invaluable for the country as means of expression. Debate.org claims that freedom of speech
only goes so far, and the flag, represents the countries ideals, such as life, liberty, and prosperity.
Such examples would be the Japanese Flag. Which, is by plain sight, a white flag with a red
circle. If you see closer, the red circle would stand for Rising Sun . Adequacy.org claims that
there has always been bounds on free speech. My personal claim would be that freedom of
speech only goes oh so far, and the flag represents it in all means. Burning the flag in peace would
also mean that the one responsible for desecrating and destroying the flag is inciting violence,
because that person who is in charge of desecrating the flag, is burning our symbol of peace and

Eq 1 shows equations of an usual RNN. Here xt is the current input and htв€’1 is the previous
RNN state. U and V are the network parameters associated with xt and htв€’1 respectively. П† is a
nonlinear function which we can choose from several alternatives. Some common choices are
sigmoid, ReLu, tanh etc. Two of most important differences between RNN and feed forward neural
networks are time ordered input and network parameter sharing. We can see from figure 3 that input
is feeding to the network in different time steps, not at once like feed forward case. However the
parameters the network learns throughout different time steps are same. At any time step the
network process current input along with whatever previously seen and processed data. This... Show

Sometimes a memory from long past could be useful for current prediction than a memory from
recent past. Another problem which makes training an RNN problematic is known as vanishing
gradient problem ??. Since network parameters of an RNN are shared over time, at any time
step error derivative not only depends on the current input of network but also on the previous
state of the network. So there is a multiplicative term of error derivatives back to time step 0 to
calculate error derivative of current time. This is a modification of back propagation algorithm
and known as back propagation through time (BPTT) ??. If individual gradients are close to
zero this multiplicative term would become very close to zero and eventually gradients
disappear. The opposite can also happen which is called exploding gradient problem, however
this is more obvious and easy to detect. Vanishing gradient problem is not easy to detect and
serves as a silent killer to the network. Several approaches have been adopted to deal with
vanishing gradient problem. Some of them are to careful initialization of network parameters, early
stopping etc. But most effective solution was to modify the RNN architecture so that it has its own

Who Is Cool Hand Luke As A Christ Figure
Luke as a Christ Figure In literature, it s not uncommon for authors to create a character who
parallels Christ himself. In Cool Hand Luke, directed by Stuart Rosenberg, starring Paul Newman,
George Kennedy, Strother Martin, and J.D. Cannon, the protagonist Luke is shown as a Christ
figure. The film begins with Luke being arrested on account of being intoxicated and vandalizing
parking meters. He s taken to a prison in the South where his non conformist ideals automatically
disagree with the strict rules and authority. While serving his two year sentence working in a chain
gang, Luke manages to gain the respect of the other prisoners. He s given the nickname Cool Hand
Lukeafter he wins a card game from convincing the men he has valuable cards, even though he
really has nothing. After the death of his mom, Luke goes against authority and makes his first
attempt at escaping. He s brought back, however, and shortly after the audience is able to see his

Throughout Cool Hand Luke, Luke is shown to be a non conformist. When sent to prison, Luke
is placed in an isolated environment with strict rules, guards, and regimentation and his fiercely
individualistic spirit immediately clashes ( Cool Hand Luke (1967). ). Luke s non conformist
attitude is what drives him to escape so many times he s a rebel at heart, and refuses to adapt to
the prison environment. Luke not only rebels against big things such as prison authority, but
small, insignificant things as well. Even Luke s eating habits are distinctively non conformist he
takes a bite and leaves the spoon sticking out of his mouth ( Cool Hand Luke (1967). ). No matter
what he s doing, even if it s something as simple as eating, Luke finds a way to rebel against it.
This character trait of Luke s proves the Christ figure archetype because of his refusal to conform,
and his tendency to go against what he s supposed to be

This book is a crucial dose of reality for those of us that are spoiled by the comforts we have
grown used too. Nicholas D. Kristof and Sheryl WuDunn explain in the book Half the Sky why
empowering women in the developing world is ethically right and extremely vital. It is a gripping
story of how customs and culture have historically oppressed women. The strength of the human
rights movement and of actual change across all cultures is going to be asteadfast task of
courageous women who give themselves permission to say no to so many years of unthinkable

Mahabouba was affected by gender discrimination because she was female. Females are not
treated as equals in these types of countries. Mahabouba is from Western Ethiopia, a country that
is poor and has been ravaged time again by famine, genocide, and war. Only a fourth of all
children regularly go to school. School is free, but schoolbooks, school supplies and school
clothes are not. (Abagond, 2009)Mahabouba s aunt did not educate her and instead treated her
like a servant. In the Ethiopian countryside, if a young man has an eye on a girl but doesn t have
a bride price, or if he doubts the girl s family will accept him, then he and several friends kidnap,
the girl, and he rapes her. (Kristof, Nicholas D and WuDunn, Sheryl, 2009)This improves his
bargaining position because he has ruined her and she will find it difficult to marry anyone else.
6) How is gender discrimination in the United States different from the discrimination women and
girls face in Half the Sky ? How is it similar?
During the early history of the United States, a man virtually owned his wife and children as he
did his material possessions. However, women in America fought to change that and now we have
laws like Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 to protect us while women in countries like
Ethiopia, India, Thailand, etc. do not. According to the Council on Women and Girls, attacks on
women by their intimate partners have fallen since the passage of the Violence

The Pros And Cons Of Religion And Atheism
Recently, I was able to go on a religious retreat. The topic of religion and atheism came into
existence and I thought that this was a topic I would like to go into more depth about so I took
part of the argument. This question was asked: Is atheism a religion? We argued if these two
subjects are related. Some said no and some said yes. Though I am not an Atheist my response to
this question is, yes I do believe that atheismis a religionbecause it has the incorporation of gods
and afterlife in the belief. Let us begin with the Miriam Webster Dictionary defining these two
nouns for us exactly. Atheism (noun): a lack of belief or a strong disbelief in the existence of a
god or any gods ( Atheism. ). Religion (noun): the service and worship of God or the
supernatural commitment/devotion to religious faith/observance ( Religion. ). Comparing these
two words, they seem like they are complete opposites. The fact that religion means to believe in
a higher power, and atheism means the disbelief in a higher power, makes it seem impossible for
atheism to be a religion itself. However, when a person asks someone the question Are you a
Christian? , their response may be Yes, I am a Christian . On the other hand if one ask a person
Are you Christian? they can also respond with No, I am an Atheist . The two responses have the
same structures yet different meanings. Jimmy Akin (who is a catholic author and editor) said, A
belief is a religion if it asserts the existence of the

Hundred Year s War Research Paper
Research Paper Rough Draft
One of the world s most important wars happened in medieval time, known as the Hundred Year s
war. The Hundred Year s war was a war between England and France, which started as a conflict
between kings. The war also brought many changes to fighting tactics, religion, and government.
The Hundred Year s war, which started off as a conflict to become king, had major turning points
and battles which helped bring change to the world. The Hundred Year s war was caused by a
conflict that started with king Charles IV and the fight to become king. King Charles IV had no
heir to the throne as a result of having no male children. King Edward III of England believed he
should be king, while the French believed that King Charles IV s cousin Philip IV should be
king. Edward stated that he was the closest heir, due to the fact his mother is the sister of King
Charles IV. The French said because King Edward III was connected through a female, he had no
right to be king. The quote from Edward ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

occurred because of the war. Not only that, but the war helped abolish feudalism, a government
system of allowing men to purchase land in return for fighting for the lord. Some men have
different land from different lords, who may be fighting one another. This system was partially
responsible for the war. The war also created hatred between England and France, and England was

Two months later, congratulatory applause deafened the newly christened law offices of Rearin

McKinley now occupied Mr Hardwood s former office.
Conor smiled as he thought to himself, I can t believe I ve made this far.
Standing next to Conor s side was a beaming Bailiff Bob. Both wore matching wedding bands.
Nothing would stop this power couple, now.
Among those in attendance were former Judge Ricardo Sandoval, who had been nominated for
State Supreme Court Judgeship, and Min jun Kim, now groomed from his original gangster like
appearance to be a doting boyfriend. After two months, they still couldn t keep their hands off each

Greek Architecture
The Greek culture has had a huge impact on the history of the world. There is something Greek
in almost everything, especially in the world s architecture. Greece no longer had one king, so
they focused on building temples for their gods. Architecture began small and plain but evolved
into impressive pieces of art. As time passed from the Archaic period to the Hellenistic period,
the people of Greece developed a type of formula for their buildings and their pieces of art. In
Ancient Greece, religion dominated their life, so it is understandable that their architecture would
be dominated by their religion. Before Greece became many different city states, they had kings,

They didn t want a column in the middle because than you would have to walk around the
column to get into the temple. The most common temples would be called hexastyle because it
would have six columns in the front. If there was four columns across then it would be called
tetrastyle or eight across would be called octastyle. Another way to classify a temple is how the
columns are distributed. When a temple only has a row of columns on the front and has end
walls, it is called in antis. If the temple has a row of columns on the front with no end walls, it is
called prostyle. If a temple has a front and back portico with columns, it is called amphiprostyle.
The most famous Greek temples would be considered to be peripteral, meaning that it has
columns all the way around the building. The Greeks had a certain formula on how many
columns would go on each side of a peripertal temple. They would take the number of columns in
the front portico and multiply it by two and add one. If your temple was hexastyle and peripertal,
than there would be thirteen columns on each side ( 6+6+1= 13). The Greeks had developed a
type of formula when it came to the construction of a temple. There is not a major difference in
architecture between the Archaic period and the Classical period. During the Archaic period they
began to use stone instead of wood. Some of the most preserved remains

A Debate on Brand Viability
01)Take a position on one of the following statements: a) All brands have a limited life as
indicated by the product life cycle and will slip or disappear. b) There is no reason why a
successful brand can t live forever. Provide examples to support your position. (1 page) I firmly
believe that there is no reason why a successful brand can t live forever. I recently read an article
about Channel No. 5, a brand of cologne and perfume that is passed from generation to
generation. The tagline of the article reads: Sometimes a perfume can be more than a fragrance.
It can be a declaration of independence, a rite of passage, even a potent link between the
generations (Hingston, 2012). Some products or services that people use become a tradition
something that they always buy when celebrating or the one person they rely on to make things
right. There is the tailor who fits all the suits of the men in the family young and old who is so
special to the family (almost, it seems, like a family member) that they wouldn t consider taking
their alterations or new attire to anyone else. Interestingly, Channel No. 5 is that kind of
legendary product. Hingston wrote that Channel No. 5 was what I longed to smell like, what I
longed to be like, high end, exotic. It was what Mom wore on evenings out, to drink cocktails, to
participate in the adult world that was a mystery to me (2012, p. 60). All one really has to do to

Workplace As Part Of Continuous Improvement
Many companies have chosen to follow the route towards a 5S workplace as part of continuous
improvement. This type of system allows a company to dispose and remove unnecessary items
properly, prevent the accumulation of these items, and help decipher if these are costs that need to
be rid of. Costs tend to pile up on businesses and companies in the form of wastes and defects.
Some situations that are an example of this are utilization suffering because item changeovers take
too long, product is rushed in because an important part cannot be found, and output not meeting its
full potential because of crew to crew variations (Bresko 2014). Many companies attempt to
advance through Six Sigma, Lean, or other initiatives. However, some studies have been reported
that two thirds of other initiatives fail to meet the expectations of the organization leaders
(Ghodrati and Zulkifli 2013). Learning about the certain methods of the different systems is not the
issue when putting these into play, but putting them into their daily organizational actions is.
Some of these situations where they fail to put these into play is process improvement,
continuous improvement, and the procedures of the initiatives not being long standing. The
process of 5S is a great way to add to culture change and to involve people. 5S is aimed to simplify
larger productivity, quality, and safety measures. It is also very visual in the aspects of
organization, cleanliness, and planning. It is a base for more

Accounting Forum 28 (2004) 1 5 Introduction Social and environmental accounting: trends and
thoughts for the future Over the years Accounting Forum has explored different possible directions
for the п¬Ѓeld of social and environmental accounting. With a new publisher Elsevier it is our hope
that we shall reach new markets and opportunities. In recent issues, these explorations have been
extended to theorising the role of accounting in transnational global processes, and to the channels
of global information and the interpretation of that information. In particular, contributions have

A cross sectional analysis indicates that the share price response is mainly a function of the relative
п¬Ѓne imposed on the п¬Ѓrm; other explanatory variables such as environmental performance
news or sector membership were unsuccessful in explaining variations in the market responses they
observed. Equally, Accounting Forum has been interested in the interdependencies between social
and environmental accounting which extend to the nexus between accounting and information to
employees and other relevant parties. In this issue of Accounting Forum, R. G. Day presents
evidence concerning the evolution of reporting about employees in the last century and its
relationship with mandatory disclosure rules (Day, 2004). This is an interesting phenomenon, given
that the current conceptual framework for corporate environmental reporting has only recently
begun to analyse the relationship between voluntary and regulated disclosure. For example,
accounting research is only just beginning to examine the relationships between the role that
International Standards such as ISO 14001 have had on the reporting function. In Day s article,
however, he focuses on evidence from the UK and п¬Ѓnds that there is an apparent disregard for
statutory disclosures. Implicit in much of the Corporate Environmental and Social Reporting (CE

Motivation Theories Of Motivation
INTRODUCTION The Fremont plant of General Motors was founded in 1965. After 17 years of
operation, the plant was closed due to experiencing labour management conflict. Soon after the
shutdown, GM and Toyota vehicles cooperated to reopen the plant called New United
Manufacturing, Inc (NUMMI), which lately become one of the most successful plants in the car
manufacturing industry. In order for NUMMI to succeed, different management methods were
applied, especially various strategies which motivated the employees. This essay will attempt to
define motivation, analyse its theories, discuss the motivation lessons from the practices of
NUMMI case study and then some recommendations will be given. DEFINITION Motivation is
defined as a psychological force that stimulates a person to act toward the desired objectives and
maintain goal oriented behaviour to achieve a specific goal (Helen 2013). In the workplace,
motivation is one of the most significant factors determining the effectiveness and efficiency.
Motivation is positively related to employees willingness in performing their job duties which can
significantly affect the business growth. Thus, the more motivated the workers are, the more
successful the organisation will be (Stanley 2015). THEORETICAL... Show more content on

challenging tasks, including cost management program and increasing line speed. With different
suggestions are offered, as a result, the amount of water used to produce automobile reduced nearly

enhances the employee motivation by formally recognising and rewarding individuals for their
excellent contributions and ideas, either enhancing production, quality, safety or

Have you ever felt like there was nothing that you can do for your child? In the book, Deaf Like
Me, by Thomas S. Spradley and James P. Spradley, I can the journey that Lynn s parents had to
take to get her help. This book was excellent I really liked the way that they described the ways
that they tried to help Lynn to understand the world around her. In this book, I also saw how a
mother and father will do anything for their child so that they can understand all that is around
them. This book, is also a great asset to any family that might be unexpectedly thrown into a

In this school they wanted for all the children to be oral by the time that they got to kindergarten

their ideas of what a deaf child should be able to do. Lynn started school with a teacher named
Ms. Taylor that began to teach the children so that they could recognize what they needed to be
successful later on in their schooling. Dr. Barrington, a psychologist, taught a class to the
parents of deaf children on how to read to them so that they understand. (175) this is where the
Spradleys learned that the more they read to Lynn the better she would understand them and be
able to lip read what they were saying. Lynn also went to the Starr school that they wanted to
keep as an Oral school, so she had to learn to speak. (207) When going to a PTA Meeting for the
school, this is when Louise and Tom saw a deaf couple signing to each other. This is when they
met with Bill and Kim that taught them that Lynn could learn to sign and that it would be a good
thing for them to learn also. In the first week Lynn could sign thirteen words that she had already
knew and just did not have anything to go along with the word. As the family learned more and
more about Lynn and her deafness, the reader can see that they began to accept it. The changes all

Government Shutdown Essay
The October 2013 government shutdown stimulated a wave of delays in pay and furloughed non
excepted government contractors, which affected agency s operation, services, contracts, and
grants. The furlough builds exclusive doubts on government stability and security from the affected
contractors triggering a negative impact on their WLOC, job satisfaction, and job performance
linking to CWB I and CWB O. Several research questions and hypotheses below correspond with
the problem statement and the purpose of the study. Q1. What percentage of government
contracting men and women were furloughed during the shutdown? Q2. How does furlough

All Gave Some, Some Gave All
A normal sitting at El Patio is pretty regular, but this time it wasn t so normal. Justin Lawson and
I were eating, when all of a sudden he received a text from an unknown sender. The message read
Hey Justin would you and a few of your football teammates like to voluntarily be the pallbearer for
an ex marine? His name was Mr. Hunter. Justin immediately showed me the message without
thought I wonder who we should ask to help, because we want the most respectful people we

The next week we were on tv because Ralph Abraham had that same picture we took at the funeral
on a big poster and he was announcing our names, and telling a summary of what had happened,
and the event kept growing, and growing, until the picture and story of us, normal Winnfield,
football players had grown so much that we were on
trump news , but that wasn t it. The week after that at a pep rally, coach Banxton got on stage
and announced I d like to have everyone s undivided attention. I want to recognize the football
players that have made such and impact on not only me, our community, or the state, but the
impact that they ve made in this country. His had folders in his hand, he called out pour names,

standing on stage, and the whole crowd gave us a standing ovation. Listening to the crowd with
so much joy, clapping and screaming, it made these other five men and I feel so wonderful.
Knowing that we had touched all these people just by this one simple action as being the

would make the newspaper, turned into something nationwide, was one of the best feelings I ve

Women In Slavery in Harriet Jacob s Incidents in the life...
The notion of slavery, as unpleasant as it is, must nonetheless be examined to understand the
hardships that were caused in the lives of enslaved African Americans. Without a doubt,
conditions that the slaves lived under could be easily described as intolerable and inhumane. As
painful as the slave s treatment by the masters was, it proved to be more unbearable for the
women who were enslaved. Why did the women suffer a grimmer fate as slaves? The answer
lies in the readings, Harriet Jacob s Incidents in the life of a Slave Girl and Olaudah Equiano s
Interesting Narrative which both imply that sexual abuse, jealous mistresses , and loss of children
caused the female slaves to endure a more dreadful and hard life in captivity.... Show more content

Because of such gruesome occurrences as the sexual attacks, it would certainly be safe to
assume that the young slave girls were not only physically hurt but also emotionally distraught.
They were prone to grow into young women who felt stripped of their dignity and carried the
burden of shame. Not only did young women get sexually abused at a young age, but also the
abuse continued on as they matured. As the slaves got older they were forced to engage in sexual
affairs with their married masters, as is seen in the case of Harriet Jacobs. This naturally caused the
slaves to feel shameful, immoral, and wrongful in doing so. However, they did not have much of a
choice in the matter. To make matters worse, the mistresses who were jealous that their husbands,
the masters, were being unfaithful to them with the slaves. This commonly resulted in persecution
of the slaves by the mistresses. Although the mistresses knew that the masters were committing
wrongful acts in sexually abusing the slaves, they did not show any compassion. Instead, they
were enraged. Harriet Jacobs explains the typical reaction of a mistress as she writes: The mistress,
who ought to protect the helpless victim, has no other feelings towards her but those of jealousy
and rage .

By a research conducted at the Registrar General s Department, it has been seen that far back
early as 1800 s, the Registrar General s Department has been a 100% paper based environment. All
transaction including registration of deeds, selling or interchanged of property, state land lease

which mean an individual has to go through many archived books to search a specific document.
From 2010 onwards, the Registrar General s Department has been using a computer platform which
has modernised land administration. This has been possible when the Information Management

Describing Dunkirk
Describing Dunkirk From what I have learned about Dunkirk, it is possible to say that it could
have been seen as a victory and also a defeat for the British. When the Second World War first
began in September 1939 Germany had started to invade Poland and as a result of this France
and Britain joined in an alliance and declared war on Germany. By the 10th May 1940 Germany
had begun their invasion of France using the Blitzkrieg Method. On the 20th May Germany had
reached the coast and trapped Britain and France at Dunkirk the only port remaining. Fortunately
Operation Dynamo was approved by Churchill allowing ships to cross the channel and rescue
troops from Dunkirk this was a critical day for... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This source shows panic between troops and the Government. This was quite unusual as this
message was given on the most successful day of the evacuation, when 47,081 troops were
brought to safety. This source is quite reliable as the message is written at the time of the
evacuation. The source also shows Churchill excepting an element of defeat, however it doesn t
tell us about the other days of evacuation. As well as these sources there are also other sources
that confirm the theory of Dunkirk being panicked and disorderly. They are written by a British
pilot shot down near Dunkirk, a German fighter pilots account of Dunkirk, Charles Lightoller a
retired sailor and a painting by Charles Cundall an official war artist. As we can see there are
quite a few sources that support this theory. Another aspect of defeat is the loss of troops and
equipment. The BEF had lost and left behind virtually all of its equipment. It had been forced to
abandon 2,472 guns, 90,000 rifles, 63,879 vehicle, 20,548 motorcycles and over 500,000 tons of
stores and ammunition. More importantly 68,000 troops did not make it safely home being killed,
captured or injured. From my research I know that once on a boat, troops were still not safe from
air attack, mines or submarines many ships and boats were sunk or badly damaged whilst

broken up into short, event oriented chapters. Each chapter focuses specifically on the details f a
single event with little deviance in terms of the story line. The chapters build upon each other in
a way that creates a well rounded understanding of the protagonist Edmond DantГ©s life. The fist
four chapters focus on DantГ©s accomplishments and his success. Dumas highlights all that is
positive in DantГ©s life such as him becoming captain of the Pharaon at such a young age and
that he is finally able to marry the love of his life, Mercedes. The fourth chapter is the turning
point in which DantГ©s life turns from joy to suffering. Chapters five and six are where DantГ©s
fate is decided. He is captured on suspicion of being a Bonapartist, however, upon examination, the
officer Villefort decides that DantГ©s is innocent and is prepared to grant him his freedom and
release him from all charges until DantГ©s let slip the name of whom he was unintentionally meant

Taking a Look at the American Film Industry
After taking a closer look at the film industry in the current years, it is easy to see that the structure
market of this industry is an oligopolistic market. This means that there are several big companies
that contribute to more than fifty percent of the production of films produced each year. At the
moment some of the companies that together combine for more than this fifty percent are Sony,
Warner Brothers, Disney, and Paramount. These big production companies have a big hold on the
market, and are able to produce movies each month to keep a tight grip on the market share. This
makes them the leaders in this market, but there is still room for a private independent company to
produce a filmand have great success ( Leading domestic distributors , 2013).
The film industry is in the business to entertain, so it falls under the entertainment business. This
opens the competition to a much broader sphere. There are so many other competitors under this
category that it is necessary to narrow it down to a more precise competition. When talking about
the entertainment industry this includes sports, video games, theme parks, television shows, live
theater, and music, but it s not helpful to compare to the film industry with all these other
entertainment sectors. The focus will be on television shows and video games, which are more
closely related to the film industry. In 2010 this section of television, films, and video games had
revenue of $30 billion. Out of those $30 billion

Abstract
The goal of this essay is to focus on theory and implementation of the Balanced Scorecard system.
Because of the structured generic approach of the methodology, the Balanced Scorecard has gained
its popularity as means of evaluating performance and reporting quantitative performance results.
The balanced scorecard is a strategic planning and management system that is used extensively in
business and industry, government, and nonprofit organizations worldwide to align business
activities to the vision and strategy of the organization, improve internal and external
communications, and monitor organization performance against strategic goals (The Balanced
Scorecard Institute, 2014). The Balanced Scorecard is the most prevalent and adopted of the several
strategic performance tools since the early 1990s. In addition, the derivatives of the Balanced
Scorecard such as Performance Prism and Results Based Management have also gained prominence
in the field of strategic performance management and improvement. The Balanced Scorecard
commenced as a performance management tool that incorporated strategic non financial
performance measures to the conventional financial indicators in order to provide managers and
company executives with a somewhat balanced view of the aspect of organizational performance.

Causes Of Migrant Labor In The Philippines
Introduction Approximately 10 12 million Filipinos work as migrants abroad; the number of people
leaving the country to find work is so high that migration is a regular part of life in the Philippines
(Pardis, 121). Due to deeply embedded structural flows of capital and labor present in postcolonial
/neocolonial economic arrangements, the Philippines depend on migrant labor as a significant
export (Pardis, 123). The combination of neoliberal policies and globalization result in push and
pull forces across portions of societies and national borders that motivate migration in search of
employment or safety, such as increasing poverty and anemic development, causing the Philippines
to rely significantly on migrant labor to strengthen the domestic economy. (Pardis, 143). The heavy
reliance on migrant labor has created, in some instances, a situation of forced migration that renders
potential migrants at risk of being a trafficked person prone to exploitation as cheap labor, bonded
workers, or prostitutes (Saat, 137). Aspirant migrants depend on others to facilitate their movement,
making them susceptible to criminal intentions of those offering work opportunities abroad and
organizing travel requirements (Kempadoo, 74). The logistics of migration (recruitment,
transportation, transfer, harboring, or receipt of persons) do not constitute trafficking when carried
out formally and the person is fully informed of the conditions of work and understandings of
payments and obligations

Role Of Women In Dracula
The Power Struggle in Bram Stoker s Dracula
Bram Stoker s Dracula is a highly controversial novel written in the Victorian Era. The Victorian
era was a time when gender played a very restrictive role in society. Men and women were
expected to follow certain behavior and to stay within the conventions of the time. In Dracula, the
reader encounters the new woman , a woman who does not stay within the bounds of Victorian
gender tradition. The reader also gains insight into the dominate role that men play in the novel and
how the patriarchy impacts society. There are two opinions among critics, one being that the men
primarily dictate the events and characterization in the novel, or the second argument being that
women actually fulfill this role ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Many critics argue that the men completely dictate the plot and the behavior of most characters in
the novel. The Crew of Light primarily perpetuates the patriarchy and control women. Mitchell R.
Lewis concludes that the male plays the most significant role in dictating the basis of the novel. In
his entry about Dracula he states, The efforts of the male characters to kill Dracula are really
efforts to subordinate female sexuality to the Victorian institution of heterosexual marriage, in
which women primarily play the prescribed roles of wife and mother. It is also an effort to save the
embattled masculinity of the male characters. . The male characters are constantly plotting to
uphold the patriarchy and to force women to act how they want them to, weather they know it or
not. The men must prove their masculinity and dominance over the woman. In another gender
criticism, Sos Eltis takes a similar view. Eltis cites multiple events in the text where masculinity is
triumphing over femininity and prolonging the familiar, traditional gender roles of Victorian
society. He talks of the killing of Lucy saying, The staking of Lucy is described in overtly sexual
terms, as a reassertion of masculine dominance and sexual aggression ... Arthur Holmwood
becomes the embodiment of determined, self controlled, masculinity. (456). Both critics agree that

Character Analysis: A Raisin in the Sun The play A Raisin In the Sun, by Lorraine Hansberry is

Throughout the story, the Youngers display how they are just like an ordinary family;
everybody has their own special personality. This caused many conflicts when it was time to

Younger, the son and oldest child of mama, was very passionate about the idea of using the
money to open his own liquor store. His different personality traits take over and create him into a

The Evolution of Religion
INTRODUCTION In The Wizard of Oz (1939), Dorothy and her friends journey to the Emerald
City in seek of Oz the great and powerful wizard. Upon finally reaching him, Dorothy s dog opens
a curtain to reveal that the Wizard is merely an ordinary man speaking into a microphone while
using various knobs and levers to create a smoke and mirrors effect. In many ways this story is
similar to the creation and interpretation of religionby individuals within society. In the following
pages I will discuss this metaphor, as well as Rudolf Otto and his theories on the creation of
religion, Peter L. Berger s theory of the sacred canopy, and finally the intermingling of these two
theories in the evolution of religion.

This is the first of the three main aspects of Berger s Sacred Canopy. Externalization, Berger says,
is the ongoing outpouring of human being into the world, both in the physical and the mental
activity of men, (4). Every time an individual externalizes himself upon the environment, it changes,
thus creating a new set of choices to be made.
This imposition of our decisions then leads to objectivation the second aspect of the sacred
canopy. According to Berger, the humanly produced world becomes something out there. It
consists of objects, both material and non material that are capable of resisting the desires of
their producer. Once produced, this world cannot simply be wished away, (9). In other words,
objectivation occurs when the products of what we create impose themselves back upon us and
take on a life of their own. Gender roles, for example, are objectivations and are different in
varying societies. Berger explains that society assigns to the individual not only a set of roles but
a designated identity. In other words, the individual is not only expected to perform as husband,
father or uncle, but to be a husband, a father, or an uncle (14). The final aspect of Berger s sacred
canopy is internalization. Internalization is the acceptance of these objective realities that society
imposes upon us. In this step, our objectivations become part of who we are. This can be seen in

Cup qualifying soccer match between Iran and Bahrain as a metaphor of the various social
dynamics attached to this sporting event and the country as a whole. That said, there are numerous
underlying themes associated with this film. In this paper, however, I will... Show more content on

For instance, the man on the minibus vehemently warns the girl about getting caught at the
stadium and tries to help her as he seems to be legitimately worried for her wellbeing. Also, the
ticker scalper fretfully asks the if she know[s] what they ll do if they catch [her]? (Panahi). This
implies the public perception of the military s enforcement of this law is extremely strict and
violating it is very much unsafe. However, the actions of the soldiers in their treatment of the
girls suggests otherwise. At the end of the movie, the girls and soldiers are celebrating with all
the Iranian people in the streets after the huge win, which provides the notion that these young
women got off scot free. Perhaps Panahi is symbolizing fear tactics practiced by the government
in order to promote law abiding citizens. The soldier who appears to be in the leadership position
is greatly concerned with going on military leave as he tells a girl, [he] should be on leave...it s
[her] fault [he s] on duty here (Panahi). More than detaining these girls, he is concerned with
moving back to his village and taking care of his family. The only reason he is detaining the girls
is because [he] [has] responsibilities and [he ll] be punished if he releases them (Panahi). There
seems to be an evident discrepancy within the Iranian hierarchy as it pertains to the legal policy
prohibiting women from

How Did Religion Lead To The Rise Of The American Revolution
The foremost denominations within America before the country s independence were
Congregationalists, Anglicans, Presbyterians, Quakers, Methodist and Baptists. These are referred
to as the orthodox denominations. Roman Catholics were in a small community in Maryland as
well has Catholic Indian missions. However, the Congregationalists, Anglicans, Quakers and
Presbyterians were the raining sects in America. During the Revolution, including the
Confederation years, church attendance dramatically dropped. The Enlightenment consisted of
multiple philosophers that were able to convince Americans that thinking on one s own was enough
for truth and reason. The philosophers stated how the Bible was a book of contradictions; with its
wisdom, in addition to mythology and irrational nonsense. After the revolution, the Anglican
Church took another hit with decline in membership. Most of their ministers had been Loyalist to

This subsection rejects the belief in the Trinity, or the combination of the Father, Son, and Holy
Spirit. A Boston congregation voted in 1785, stating that the ideology of the Trinity was
somewhat polytheistic. Leading to their belief in irrationality. God was the only worship worthy
character. Jesus Christ was considered a Saintly teacher. William Ellery Channing, a
Congregational minister, proclaimed himself a Unitarian in 1819 as well as declined the
Calvinist belief in an angry God. God was the Holy Father with a love like one. He wanted
humans to improve, live through His word, and was willing to punish when necessary. With
Unitarianism came Universalism. Both of these sects illuminated puzzling texts or doctrines.
Members saw being moral and being godly as equal. However, the social classes of both
denominations were polar opposites. The Universalists consisted of the common folk, like farmers.

A boy lost at sea and a man captured by pirates, who knew they could be so similar? Both of
these characters experience hardships, that they have to overcome. Pi is a boy from The Life of

pirates in 1722 but escapes and waits in the Caribbean until he is saved. In the novelLife of Pi, the

In the novel Life of Pi, the main character Pi is similar to the castaway Philip Ashton because they
both had to learn how to survive on their own to get through their tragic incidents. Pi wanted to
give up trying to live. He was too sad and too tired to feel like he could go on. I was giving up. I
would have given up if a voice hadn t made itself heard in my heart. The voice said I will not die. I
refuse it. I will make it through this nightmare. I will beat the odds, as great as they are. I have
survived so far, miraculously. Now I will turn miracle into routine. The amazing will be seen every
day. I will put in all the hard work necessary. Yes, so long as God is with me, I will not die. Amen.
(Marte, 2001, p. 80). As Pi prays he realizes he has to fight for his life. He prays to the several gods
that he worships, and he knows that if he has the power of god with him, he can live. Pi realizes he

Evicted Reflection
The excerpt we read from the book Evicted moved many people. It provoked powerful emotions
and caused many to rethink they their feelings about the tails of told by far too many. Evicted
the story of families on both side of the housing epidemic focusing on renters and landlords. I
will be comparing my own views and using my experiences to gain a deeper understanding of:
the people effected; the impact it has on families of both sides; the lesser and the lessee; the
reason we are in this crises; and what can be done. Evicted is no doubt a piece that can stir the
emotions of everyone who choices to sit down and read it. I believe everyone can agree that far

The author focuses on rising housing costs. Here is where myself and the author begin to part.
Unlike the author I don t believe the answer is this simple. Although the rates as he describes are
rising faster than any other market or minimum wage. One most always look introspectively at a
cause first before looking externally. The problem with blanket statement like: the singular
reason is rising costs, is that it holds blameless those who choose not to better themselves. One
of the major problems I see in the world is a sense of undeserved entitlement. If you can t pay
rent in downtown of city my solution is to look for housing elsewhere. I have moved across the
country from my family for years and now am the closest I have been in over 4 years still 5 hours
away. Growing up my housing situation has been just as unstable as many described in this piece.
It was a sense of pride and entitlement that put me in that situation not rising costs. After leaving
home and moving to California I found myself struggling one day to make rent, I was paying
$1,800 a month just for rent let alone a car payment and utilities. Although this was unexpected and
due to something I could not control I had to remedy the situation I cut back on unnecessary
expenses, moved when my lease finished and now I refuse to ever be in that situation again. I am
now here at UW Madison pursuing an education that will allow me to be financially stable for
the rest of my life. If I can make it with all of the setbacks I have had in my life, why shouldn t
we encourage others to do the same? Minimum wage although it should cover expenses for
housing we all know doesn t and we adjust our sights to accommodate for that. We get an
education and better ourselves and those around us. This allows us the lives we want to live. In
closing I hold the renters responsible

Impact of the Recession on Construction Contractors
THE IMPACT OF THE GLOBAL FINANCIAL CRISIS ON THE CONSTRUCTION INDUSTRY
JANUARY 2009
INTRODUCTION
The current crisis in the world s financial system has left the construction industry facing its
toughest challenges for a generation. Salaries are falling; job cuts are predicted to reach 400,000
in England alone; and the impacts look set to get much worse before they get better.
No country is immune from the impact of this and the UK, and much of the rest of the world, is
already in, or about to enter a recession. Even buoyant construction markets such as the United
Arab Emirates (UAE) are starting to feel the effect, with construction growth rate expected to slow
from 20% to 15% in 2009 (Al Mal Capital). The United Nations (UN) ... Show more content on

The fiscal mitigation measures that were recently announced by the Chancellor (Pre budget
statement, November 2008) were not sufficient to address the underlying loss of confidence facing
all UK businesses (and people).
More innovative ways could be investigated by Government to help the industry survive, such as
providing credit insurance; relaxing bonding requirements on public projects; setting up project
bank accounts; and providing tax breaks/concessions for sustainable construction R D. At present,
the latter has effectively ground to a halt largely as a result of the deeply entrenched uncertainty that
abound.
Jobs Loss of Skills
Almost 400,000 jobs in the construction sector in England could be lost over the next two years
(assuming GDP shrinks by 2.2% in 2009 and rises by 0.75% in 2010). It is predicted that the
worst affected area will be London, where 23% of workers are expected to be made redundant
(Public and Corporate Economic Consultants for the Local Government Association).
On the other hand, Eastern Europeans are responding to the downturn in the market by returning
home, and this has eased the severity of the job situation in many instances.
Given the forecasts for construction output in 2009, it could be assumed that jobs in the public
sector may offer more security than those in the private sector. This reinforces the need for
Government to establish how an accelerated public spending package will be

Ender Wiggins Character Analysis
Introduction The character Ender Wiggins from Enders Game (Card, 1991) is a young boy
who is sent on an undercover mission to destroy the hive (the humans enemies). This essay will
focus on the idiographic and nomothetic descriptions of Ender Wiggins. An idiographic
description is a specific description that allows people like writers and people who watch
movies to give their own opinion on characters from their view or perspective (Ashton, 2012). A
nomothetic description is a generalized description of a person or character. This helps
generalize people into categories which is easier for people to compare multiple people or in this
case characters (Ashton, 2012). Idiographic Description Caring/Thoughtful When emmersed in the
book Enders game, it is clear to see that Ender Wiggins loves his sister and would do anything to
protect her. Ender showed this by emailing his sister every day and telling her about his day. When

Most of his conversation come from dialog with him and his sister and a couple of classmates
when asking the odd question. Ender as mentioned above was a boy who got bullied often at
school by other kids and at home by his older brother. Enders older brother makes it very evident
that he does not like Ender, so which lead Ender to become down on himself often after coming
home and seeing his brother. Ender thought people did not like him because he was a smart boy
so he rarely talked. An example of this is when Ender was in the spotlight during battle school
simulations and got picked on by people on his platoon on the Salamander army. When Ender first
started battle school, he usually sat alone and ate alone, he had nobody back home except his
family and he did not have anyone except the Colonels on the ship. Battle school encouraged
competition and not sportsmanship so did not help Ender until later in the novel where he then
made plenty of

Gould And Lewontin Point Of View
Contemporary science has assimilated the bigotry views that it hoped to fend off. The scientific
community, their ideas and perceptions, account for the accepted scientific beliefs rather than the
perpetual, and actual scientific theories. Gould and Lewontin s essay The Spandrels of San Marco
is about an adaptationist programme and how it has taken over evolutionary belief in England and
the United States during the past forty years. The people believe in the power of natural selectionas
a key mechanism of evolution. The writers don t see eye to eye with this thought and are trying to
reassert a competing theory that organisms must be seen as integrated wholes. Gould and Lewontin
show their explanations for a pluralistic perspective of... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Throughout the rest of Spandrels there is repetitive usage of the this connotation, that adaptation is
the only paradigm for science. Adaptation is elevated in status when the authors refer to the works
done by naturalists; the word choices of these experimenters place natural selection as the perfect
culmination of traits. Whereas as Gould and Lewontin s beliefs do not strictly follow one model for
nature; rather it incorporates all possibilities.
Gould and Lewontin also use quotations to further explain the pluralistic perspective of the
evolutionary theory. They refer to the paleontology article[, which] ends with a long quotation
from Count (1947) (Myers, 269). The goal that Gould and Lewontin go for referring to this
event is having a reader decide whether to take it as a prescient forerunner of Gould s opinion or
as a dated belief now superseded (Myers, 269). That is to say whether following pluralism is the
opinion of Gould or something necessary for science to advance and move forward. Gould and
Lewontin use the example of fingerprints at the end of their essay to get the readers to really
consider the impacts that adaptation has had;
Then I spoke of the failure to discover the origin of these patterns, and how the fingers of unborn
children had been dissected to ascertain their earliest stages, and so forth.

Were The Colonists Justified In The Revolutionary War
Hook. Both during and before The Revolutionary War happened, Britain killed many of the Patriots
who fought against independence from Britain. King George III made laws that took advantage of
the colonists and Britain did not give them equal rights. The Patriots were justified in seeking
independence from England, because England abused the colonists, capitalized on them, and
controlled their rights.
One reason the Patriots were right for wanting to separate from England is that they were abused
by England. On March 5, 1770, the Boston Massacre took place. This fight was a clash between
the British soldiers and the Boston Colonists (Garcia R44). During the massacre, five colonists
were killed by the British soldiers. After this event took ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One way England controlled their rights was through placing restrictions on trade. When this
rule was implemented the colonist grew angry. Not only did Britain not have all the supplies
that the colonies needed but they taxed very high on all of the goods the colonies needed or
wanted. Another example of when England controlled the colonists rights is when King George
III closed their congress and said that Parliament had supreme rule over the colonies. In this
instance King George III eliminated colonial self governance, so that they would be less likely
to uprise. The Patriots responded to this by becoming more frustrated with the king and
increased their desire for independence. Another example of when England controlled the
colonies rights is when they revolt the right to a fair trial for the colonist accused of wrongdoing.
If the colonists was accused of a wrongdoing by Britain, the British would capture them and send
them to England for a trial. The trial would occur in England rather in the colonies. The colonists
could not defend themselves because no one in England would defend them making for a very
unfair legal process. This is in contrast to what happened after the Boston Massacre, when the
colonists gave the five British soldiers a fair trial. During the trial, the accused British soldiers
were given John Adams, who is one of the best

Person Vs Utilitarianism
When being an engineer problems present themself on a daily basis. Some are math problems
which are to be expected, but some are ethical problems that can be even more difficult to solve.
Fortunately for us we have the utilitarianism and respect for persons model which in most cases can
either help or completely solve the ethical dilemma at hand.
The two most renowned ethics models for engineers, are the utilitarianism and respect for persons
methods. These two methods have some similarities, but also have some distinct differences and
flaws with how they operate from a case to case basis. First, I would like to discuss what the
utilitarianism approach is. Utilitarianism favors in the overall good of each decision using a cost

But, with a little compromising from both sides I believe a middle way solution can be formed.
The Jones family s biggest concern is with maintaining their house which has been pass down
from generation to generation. This time we use engineers to create the most efficient road
possible without going directly through the house. Now, this still seems like the Jones family is
getting the short end of the deal. But, if we are able to construct a few miles away from the
house and still save at least 10 minutes this could still help both situations. First and foremost
having drivers traveling less would be a plus for the environment. Also, the convenience of
spending less time on the roads would be great for drivers. The compromise from the utilitarian
perspective would be the extra 5 10 minutes on the road versus saving the full 20 minutes between
the two cities. For the Jones family keeping the house and most of their property is a much better
alternative to having the house condemned. Also in this scenario the family would get some money
from the engineers buying some of the land. The major compromise for the Jones family would be
giving up some of their property that they ve had for generations. In this realistic alternative both
sides ultimately get what they want without either side suffering

Analysis Of Loving V. Virginia
The movie Loving is based off of the court case Loving v. Virginia. Even after the Civil Rights
act of 1964 that outlawed discrimination based on race, origin, and religion, had not yet edified the
question of marriage. States, such as Virginia, still imposed a ban on interracial marriages. The
charges against the protagonists, Mildred and Richard Loving, spiked my interest because of the
enhanced step taken by society as was taken in modern times during the same sex marriagecase
Obergefell v. Hodges. The court during the twentieth century was forced to question our evolving
standards of decency and define our Constitutional rights given to us by Equal Protection and Due
Process laws of the fifth and fourteenth amendment. The prosecution in Loving v. Virginiahad to
display their reasoning for their holding by under the levels of scrutiny in the Equal Protection
Clause. The defense had to prove there was inconsistent levels of scrutiny, a lack of compelling
governmental interest, and that marriage was a fundamental right. Once proven, the institution of
marriage, licensing, and recognition of interracial couples was Constitutionally protected.
II. Plot Line: In 1958 Virginia residents Mildred Jeter and Richard Loving, a white man and black
woman, traveled to Washington D.C. and obtained a marriage license. Upon returning to Virginia
the Lovings established a homestead in Caroline County. That same year, the county issued an
indictment against the Lovings for

Should There Be Stricter Gun Control Laws In The United...
Guns or No Guns
INTRODUCTION:
The role guns play in our society has long been debated on whether or not citizens have the right to
own guns. There are those who believe that guns have no role in the hands of private citizens.
Whereas there are those who believe that guns are the very foundation that protects our rights and
liberties expressed in the Constitution. The debate is over whether or not there should be stricter
laws preventing people to own guns. Though gun control and gun rights advocates share similar
views on background checks and requirements, each have different views on the safety of guns and
the Second Amendment meaning.
Safety: CONTRAST
Both sides of gun control advocates believe that the safety of American citizens is the most
important thing within the argument of the ban of guns, but they both have different views on how
it should be handled.
No Guns:
Some people believe that the United States is safer when citizens are not allowed access to guns.
The amount of organized crime would go down because all of their power is derived from their
use of firearms and that is a significant amount of their profit. Gun control laws protect children and
families; Moms Demand Action, a grassroots group founded in response to the tragedy at Sandy
Hook Elementary School, believes guns in America are creating a public health crisis that is
attacking children, citing statistics ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The second amendment clearly gives Americans the right to bear arms which led to the founding of
our country ( The Constitution of the United States, Amendment 2). Gun advocates believe the new
legislation will separate them from their rights because putting laws on their firearms will be
against Amendment II. The right to bear arms for self defense is protected in all states as well as
the U.S. Constitution.

  • 4. Reflection On Clinical Skills Activities Essay Introduction The last week of classes for NURS1005 were a series of clinical skills activities. These activities refreshed the student s minds on what they will be doing on placement and how to do it. We got assessed on three clinical skills; taking and recording vital signs, blood glucose levels and doing a urine analysis. I ve chosen to reflect on taking vital signs and how I performed them. Reflection is a very important part of learning from experiences which is essential in nursing. Nursing practises continue to change and it is easier to go with and to add to that change if you are reflecting on your practise. This essentially makes nursing practises better for the patients. I have reflected on the process of how I took the vital signs during my clinical skills activities. I was very nervous but believe I performed them well due to how I was taught, what I have read and seen and the vital signs signified how my peer was acting which was healthy and within a normal range. Even though I felt I did them well, there were improvements that could and have happened since. Most of the improvements are minor in comparison to the strengths I have but it is important to recognise improvements when needed so you are giving the best and accurate care. I was aware of these improvements needed and tried to strengthen them during my clinical placement which helped me learn different ways of doing processes and also the rationale behind the processes. Value of personal reflection in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Flag Desecration Essay The Flag is an honored and venerated symbol of a country. Epic wars were fought for this piece of fabric, such as the American Civil War, or World War Two. However, some people disrespect this, and Take it too far such as, physically destroying the flag, or desecrating the flag by burning it down into a pulp. This is currently illegal in several major countries. I believe that desecration of the flag is not permissible, and should stay illegal in the United States. First of all, the flag, obviously stated in the first paragraph, is a venerated symbol of the country it represents. Burning and desecrating the flag would signify disrespect. In the United States, the flag is protected under the First Amendment, which stands and clearly says The Congress shall have power to prohibit the physical desecration of the flag if you burn the flag, it is roughly the same thing as burning down the White House intentionally. Next, debate.org claims that flag desecration is completely negative, mainly because the flag is an honored symbol, and it is, the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... You do not personally have the right to legally make threats such as desecrating a symbol that is invaluable for the country as means of expression. Which, is by plain sight, a white flag with a red circle. If you see closer, the red circle would stand for Rising Sun . Adequacy.org claims that there has always been bounds on free speech. My personal claim would be that freedom of speech only goes oh so far, and the flag represents it in all means. • 6. Nt1310 Unit 2 Linear Programming Eq 1 shows equations of an usual RNN. Here xt is the current input and htв€’1 is the previous RNN state. U and V are the network parameters associated with xt and htв€’1 respectively. П† is a nonlinear function which we can choose from several alternatives. Some common choices are sigmoid, ReLu, tanh etc. Two of most important differences between RNN and feed forward neural networks are time ordered input and network parameter sharing. We can see from figure 3 that input is feeding to the network in different time steps, not at once like feed forward case. However the parameters the network learns throughout different time steps are same. At any time step the network process current input along with whatever previously seen and processed data. This... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Sometimes a memory from long past could be useful for current prediction than a memory from recent past. Another problem which makes training an RNN problematic is known as vanishing gradient problem ??. Since network parameters of an RNN are shared over time, at any time step error derivative not only depends on the current input of network but also on the previous state of the network. So there is a multiplicative term of error derivatives back to time step 0 to calculate error derivative of current time. This is a modification of back propagation algorithm and known as back propagation through time (BPTT) ??. If individual gradients are close to zero this multiplicative term would become very close to zero and eventually gradients disappear. The opposite can also happen which is called exploding gradient problem, however this is more obvious and easy to detect. Vanishing gradient problem is not easy to detect and serves as a silent killer to the network. Several approaches have been adopted to deal with vanishing gradient problem. Some of them are to careful initialization of network parameters, early stopping etc. But most effective solution was to modify the RNN architecture so that it has its own ... In Cool Hand Luke, directed by Stuart Rosenberg, starring Paul Newman, George Kennedy, Strother Martin, and J.D. Cannon, the protagonist Luke is shown as a Christ figure. The film begins with Luke being arrested on account of being intoxicated and vandalizing parking meters. He s taken to a prison in the South where his non conformist ideals automatically disagree with the strict rules and authority. While serving his two year sentence working in a chain gang, Luke manages to gain the respect of the other prisoners. He s given the nickname Cool Hand Lukeafter he wins a card game from convincing the men he has valuable cards, even though he really has nothing. When sent to prison, Luke is placed in an isolated environment with strict rules, guards, and regimentation and his fiercely individualistic spirit immediately clashes ( Cool Hand Luke (1967). ). Luke s non conformist attitude is what drives him to escape so many times he s a rebel at heart, and refuses to adapt to the prison environment. Luke not only rebels against big things such as prison authority, but small, insignificant things as well. Even Luke s eating habits are distinctively non conformist he takes a bite and leaves the spoon sticking out of his mouth ( Cool Hand Luke (1967). ). How is it similar? During the early history of the United States, a man virtually owned his wife and children as he did his material possessions. • 11. The Pros And Cons Of Religion And Atheism Recently, I was able to go on a religious retreat. The topic of religion and atheism came into existence and I thought that this was a topic I would like to go into more depth about so I took part of the argument. This question was asked: Is atheism a religion? We argued if these two subjects are related. Some said no and some said yes. Though I am not an Atheist my response to this question is, yes I do believe that atheismis a religionbecause it has the incorporation of gods and afterlife in the belief. Let us begin with the Miriam Webster Dictionary defining these two nouns for us exactly. Atheism (noun): a lack of belief or a strong disbelief in the existence of a god or any gods ( Atheism. ). Religion (noun): the service and worship of God or the supernatural commitment/devotion to religious faith/observance ( Religion. ). Comparing these two words, they seem like they are complete opposites. The fact that religion means to believe in a higher power, and atheism means the disbelief in a higher power, makes it seem impossible for atheism to be a religion itself. However, when a person asks someone the question Are you a Christian? , their response may be Yes, I am a Christian . On the other hand if one ask a person Are you Christian? they can also respond with No, I am an Atheist . The two responses have the same structures yet different meanings. The Hundred Year s war was a war between England and France, which started as a conflict between kings. The war also brought many changes to fighting tactics, religion, and government. The Hundred Year s war, which started off as a conflict to become king, had major turning points and battles which helped bring change to the world. The Hundred Year s war was caused by a conflict that started with king Charles IV and the fight to become king. King Charles IV had no heir to the throne as a result of having no male children. King Edward III of England believed he should be king, while the French believed that King Charles IV s cousin Philip IV should be king. Edward stated that he was the closest heir, due to the fact his mother is the sister of King Charles IV. Finally, a junior partner had made it to managing partner; Conor McKinley now occupied Mr Hardwood s former office. Conor smiled as he thought to himself, I can t believe I ve made this far. Standing next to Conor s side was a beaming Bailiff Bob. Both wore matching wedding bands. Nothing would stop this power couple, now. Among those in attendance were former Judge Ricardo Sandoval, who had been nominated for State Supreme Court Judgeship, and Min jun Kim, now groomed from his original gangster like appearance to be a doting boyfriend. After two months, they still couldn t keep their hands off each other, even in public. Stuart Rutherford with Oliver Winston mingled about the conference room turned buffet table with drinks in hand and bouts of laughter. And, after all this time, Conor still had a gut feeling about that Oliver Winston. Even, the Prosecutor from the murder trial stopped by to give his accolades. Walter Rearin nodded in apprehension, although he smirked on the inside. The trial s victory made this law practice a fortune with the assistance of the media coverage. I ve see you made Conor McKinley a managing partner. He did an outstanding job in the courtroom, and I m sure we ll hear more from him in years to come, said the humble Prosecutor. Greece no longer had one king, so they focused on building temples for their gods. Architecture began small and plain but evolved into impressive pieces of art. As time passed from the Archaic period to the Hellenistic period, the people of Greece developed a type of formula for their buildings and their pieces of art. In Ancient Greece, religion dominated their life, so it is understandable that their architecture would be dominated by their religion. Before Greece became many different city states, they had kings, and they would build a room called a megaron to show they King s... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... They didn t want a column in the middle because than you would have to walk around the column to get into the temple. The most common temples would be called hexastyle because it would have six columns in the front. If there was four columns across then it would be called tetrastyle or eight across would be called octastyle. Another way to classify a temple is how the columns are distributed. When a temple only has a row of columns on the front and has end walls, it is called in antis. If the temple has a row of columns on the front with no end walls, it is called prostyle. If a temple has a front and back portico with columns, it is called amphiprostyle. The most famous Greek temples would be considered to be peripteral, meaning that it has columns all the way around the building. The Greeks had a certain formula on how many columns would go on each side of a peripertal temple. They would take the number of columns in the front portico and multiply it by two and add one. If your temple was hexastyle and peripertal, than there would be thirteen columns on each side ( 6+6+1= 13). The Greeks had developed a type of formula when it came to the construction of a temple. Provide examples to support your position. (1 page) I firmly believe that there is no reason why a successful brand can t live forever. I recently read an article about Channel No. 5, a brand of cologne and perfume that is passed from generation to generation. The tagline of the article reads: Sometimes a perfume can be more than a fragrance. It can be a declaration of independence, a rite of passage, even a potent link between the generations (Hingston, 2012). Some products or services that people use become a tradition something that they always buy when celebrating or the one person they rely on to make things right. There is the tailor who fits all the suits of the men in the family young and old who is so special to the family (almost, it seems, like a family member) that they wouldn t consider taking their alterations or new attire to anyone else. Interestingly, Channel No. 5 is that kind of legendary product. Hingston wrote that Channel No. 5 was what I longed to smell like, what I longed to be like, high end, exotic. It was what Mom wore on evenings out, to drink cocktails, to participate in the adult world that was a mystery to me (2012, p. 60). This type of system allows a company to dispose and remove unnecessary items properly, prevent the accumulation of these items, and help decipher if these are costs that need to be rid of. Costs tend to pile up on businesses and companies in the form of wastes and defects. Some situations that are an example of this are utilization suffering because item changeovers take too long, product is rushed in because an important part cannot be found, and output not meeting its full potential because of crew to crew variations (Bresko 2014). Many companies attempt to advance through Six Sigma, Lean, or other initiatives. However, some studies have been reported that two thirds of other initiatives fail to meet the expectations of the organization leaders (Ghodrati and Zulkifli 2013). Learning about the certain methods of the different systems is not the issue when putting these into play, but putting them into their daily organizational actions is. Some of these situations where they fail to put these into play is process improvement, continuous improvement, and the procedures of the initiatives not being long standing. With a new publisher Elsevier it is our hope that we shall reach new markets and opportunities. In recent issues, these explorations have been extended to theorising the role of accounting in transnational global processes, and to the channels of global information and the interpretation of that information. A cross sectional analysis indicates that the share price response is mainly a function of the relative п¬Ѓne imposed on the п¬Ѓrm; other explanatory variables such as environmental performance news or sector membership were unsuccessful in explaining variations in the market responses they observed. In this issue of Accounting Forum, R. G. Day presents evidence concerning the evolution of reporting about employees in the last century and its relationship with mandatory disclosure rules (Day, 2004). This is an interesting phenomenon, given that the current conceptual framework for corporate environmental reporting has only recently begun to analyse the relationship between voluntary and regulated disclosure. For example, accounting research is only just beginning to examine the relationships between the role that International Standards such as ISO 14001 have had on the reporting function. The notion of slavery, as unpleasant as it is, must nonetheless be examined to understand the hardships that were caused in the lives of enslaved African Americans. Without a doubt, conditions that the slaves lived under could be easily described as intolerable and inhumane. As painful as the slave s treatment by the masters was, it proved to be more unbearable for the women who were enslaved. Why did the women suffer a grimmer fate as slaves? The answer lies in the readings, Harriet Jacob s Incidents in the life of a Slave Girl and Olaudah Equiano s Interesting Narrative which both imply that sexual abuse, jealous mistresses , and loss of children caused the female slaves to endure a more dreadful and hard life in captivity.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Because of such gruesome occurrences as the sexual attacks, it would certainly be safe to assume that the young slave girls were not only physically hurt but also emotionally distraught. They were prone to grow into young women who felt stripped of their dignity and carried the burden of shame. Not only did young women get sexually abused at a young age, but also the abuse continued on as they matured. As the slaves got older they were forced to engage in sexual affairs with their married masters, as is seen in the case of Harriet Jacobs. This naturally caused the slaves to feel shameful, immoral, and wrongful in doing so. However, they did not have much of a choice in the matter. To make matters worse, the mistresses who were jealous that their husbands, the masters, were being unfaithful to them with the slaves. This commonly resulted in persecution of the slaves by the mistresses. Although the mistresses knew that the masters were committing wrongful acts in sexually abusing the slaves, they did not show any compassion. Instead, they were enraged. Harriet Jacobs explains the typical reaction of a mistress as she writes: The mistress, who ought to protect the helpless victim, has no other feelings towards her but those of jealousy and rage . ... The source also shows Churchill excepting an element of defeat, however it doesn t tell us about the other days of evacuation. At the moment some of the companies that together combine for more than this fifty percent are Sony, Warner Brothers, Disney, and Paramount. • 32. Causes Of Migrant Labor In The Philippines Introduction Approximately 10 12 million Filipinos work as migrants abroad; the number of people leaving the country to find work is so high that migration is a regular part of life in the Philippines (Pardis, 121). Due to deeply embedded structural flows of capital and labor present in postcolonial /neocolonial economic arrangements, the Philippines depend on migrant labor as a significant export (Pardis, 123). The combination of neoliberal policies and globalization result in push and pull forces across portions of societies and national borders that motivate migration in search of employment or safety, such as increasing poverty and anemic development, causing the Philippines to rely significantly on migrant labor to strengthen the domestic economy. (Pardis, 143). The heavy reliance on migrant labor has created, in some instances, a situation of forced migration that renders potential migrants at risk of being a trafficked person prone to exploitation as cheap labor, bonded workers, or prostitutes (Saat, 137). Aspirant migrants depend on others to facilitate their movement, making them susceptible to criminal intentions of those offering work opportunities abroad and organizing travel requirements (Kempadoo, 74). The logistics of migration (recruitment, transportation, transfer, harboring, or receipt of persons) do not constitute trafficking when carried out formally and the person is fully informed of the conditions of work and understandings of payments and obligations ... • 34. Role Of Women In Dracula The Power Struggle in Bram Stoker s Dracula Bram Stoker s Dracula is a highly controversial novel written in the Victorian Era. The Victorian era was a time when gender played a very restrictive role in society. Men and women were expected to follow certain behavior and to stay within the conventions of the time. In Dracula, the reader encounters the new woman , a woman who does not stay within the bounds of Victorian gender tradition. The reader also gains insight into the dominate role that men play in the novel and how the patriarchy impacts society. There are two opinions among critics, one being that the men primarily dictate the events and characterization in the novel, or the second argument being that women actually fulfill this role ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Many critics argue that the men completely dictate the plot and the behavior of most characters in the novel. The Crew of Light primarily perpetuates the patriarchy and control women. Mitchell R. Lewis concludes that the male plays the most significant role in dictating the basis of the novel. In his entry about Dracula he states, The efforts of the male characters to kill Dracula are really efforts to subordinate female sexuality to the Victorian institution of heterosexual marriage, in which women primarily play the prescribed roles of wife and mother. It is also an effort to save the embattled masculinity of the male characters. . The male characters are constantly plotting to uphold the patriarchy and to force women to act how they want them to, weather they know it or not. The men must prove their masculinity and dominance over the woman. In another gender criticism, Sos Eltis takes a similar view. Eltis cites multiple events in the text where masculinity is triumphing over femininity and prolonging the familiar, traditional gender roles of Victorian society. Throughout the story, the Youngers display how they are just like an ordinary family; everybody has their own special personality. This caused many conflicts when it was time to decide what to do with the check coming in the mail for ten thousand dollars. This is the first of the three main aspects of Berger s Sacred Canopy. Externalization, Berger says, is the ongoing outpouring of human being into the world, both in the physical and the mental activity of men, (4). Every time an individual externalizes himself upon the environment, it changes, thus creating a new set of choices to be made. This imposition of our decisions then leads to objectivation the second aspect of the sacred canopy. According to Berger, the humanly produced world becomes something out there. It consists of objects, both material and non material that are capable of resisting the desires of their producer. Once produced, this world cannot simply be wished away, (9). In other words, objectivation occurs when the products of what we create impose themselves back upon us and take on a life of their own. Gender roles, for example, are objectivations and are different in varying societies. Berger explains that society assigns to the individual not only a set of roles but a designated identity. In other words, the individual is not only expected to perform as husband, father or uncle, but to be a husband, a father, or an uncle (14). The final aspect of Berger s sacred canopy is internalization. Internalization is the acceptance of these objective realities that society imposes upon us. In the fictional film Offside, directed by Jafar Panahi, he decides to zero in on the complex culture within Iran. Both during and before The Revolutionary War happened, Britain killed many of the Patriots who fought against independence from Britain. King George III made laws that took advantage of the colonists and Britain did not give them equal rights. The Patriots were justified in seeking independence from England, because England abused the colonists, capitalized on them, and controlled their rights. One reason the Patriots were right for wanting to separate from England is that they were abused by England. On March 5, 1770, the Boston Massacre took place.
