Literary Analysis Of The Poem Morte DArthur
At first the poem Morte d Arthur, or the The Epic. The speaker says he is going to or is at the home of
Francis Allen on Christmas Eve. Also there are the people and Holmes; the poet, Everard Hall; as the
host. They gather around the wassail bowl (hot mulled cider) and discuss how the honor seems gone
from Christmas. The speaker is tired from his day of ice skating and falling, and he dozes off, waking
to the parson lamenting the general lack of faith throughout the world. Francis jokes and says he holds
faith in Everard, and Everard responds by saying he has faith in the cider. The speaker asks Everard
what became of his great gift of poetry that was so evident in college, and Francis says that Everard
had been working on twelve books about King Arthur but threw them into the fire. It seems that
Everard thought nothing new was said and the books were mere Homeric echoes, nothing worth.
Francis says he has saved one book from the fire. The speaker s ears prick up, and he remembers the
talent of his friend. After some urging, the poet begins to read. The noise of battle goes on all day. All
of the men of the Round Table have fallen in Lyonesse. King Arthur has also been wounded, and his
last knight, Sir Bedivere, brings him to a chapel near the field in the barren land. The King speaks to
Bedivere about the severing of the company of knights, the men he loved, and how they will never
talk again of lordly deeds in Camelot. He tells Bedivere to take his sword

Cultural Appropriation In Pop Culture
You see, the discussion surrounding appropriation takes on so many more layers than most think piece
authors care to engage with layers that desperately need to be brought to the discussion (Jaikaran,
Elizabeth). Movements that advocate the equality between races, religions, and cultures are extremely
prominent in our modern day society (Cohen, Amanda). Cultural appropriation in pop culture allows
for cultures to be spread and ultimately accepted by a wide variety of people. Once an audience sees
someone they follow do something, they will likely accept it and try the same things; people in the
media pave the way for everyone else and can start a movement. Putting cultures in separate groups
and not allowing for certain styles to be used by others is the root of discrimination of cultures. The
main influencers in pop culture have been knocking down these separations and preaching the idea of
mixing cultural styles into every aspect of life. Pop culture has some of the most influence on society
and the example that it sets for people to follow is needed ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Magazines want to be read and enjoyed by the most customers possible, and in order to do so they try
and attract a vast variety of people. This means that they must include different hairstyle and clothing
choices for all races, cultures, and ethnicities. By expanding the types of wear in these magazines,
people are able to identify and connect with the articles and overall message of the magazine. Often
times, the goal is to make women feel empowered and part of a larger whole. Increasing the amount of
cultures that these magazines and their articles represent means that more women are able to feel a
part of something and can knock down the walls of difference between groups of people. It is crucial
for magazines to display various culturized styles in order for these cultures to feel included and is a
great way to diminish the separation and therefore the discrimination of

Theme Of Survival In Life Of Pi
Survival is the key to any species continuing to exist, many of us manage to jeopardize our state of
well being to sustain ourselves, resulting to violent motives and immoral urges. In the novel Life of Pi
by Yann Martel, character Pi Patel stranded at sea, accompanied by animals due to a ship sinking that
serves as the main purpose of the book is a great representation of the hardships a person goes through
in order to survive. By viewing through the perspectives of how all animals are dangerous by nature,
the cruel acts men will do in order to live, and overlooking individual morals, Pi reveals that in a life
or death situation, survival will always overshadow one s humanity. This close analysis of the theme
of survival proves that it has a big role in our everyday lives, as when our life is being threatened,
there are no limits an animal will go in order to survive. One of the first ways Pi proves how survival
outweighs humanity is through his observation that all animals are dangerous by nature. For example,
Pi s father addresses to never get comfortable around animals and says Life will defend itself no
matter how small it is. Every animal is ferocious and dangerous (Martel 41). This is a pivotal moment
for Pi, as even though some animals may seem harmless, they can instantly turn into a savage due to
their genetically hard wired behaviours when feeling threatened. Moreover, Pi s father decided to
prove a point as to how dangerous the animals can be by

Pathow And Density Experiment Essay
For the first set of trials, flow and density were measured during each trial. The density of vehicles is
defined as the number of vehicles per unit length. It was mea sured as the total number of vehicles
divided by 303, the total number of spaces on the road. Since the number of cars on the road did not
change over the course of one trial, the density could be measured at any point during the trial. Flow is
defined as the number of vehicles passing a certain point on the road per unit time. To measure flow,
the total number of vehicles that passed the right side of the Netlogo display was calculated and
divided by the amount of time that passed, 3000 time steps. The probability of shifting (p shift) was
set at 0.1 and the density was initially ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The density was increased in increments of 3 303 because the number of cars always has to be a
multiple of 3 (so that there will be an equal number in each lane), 6 and the average flow over 3000
time steps was measured for each density setting. This allowed me to create a flow density diagram for
p shift=0.1. I repeated this procedure with p shift=0.2, p shift=0.3, p shift=0.5, and p shift=0.8 to get
an idea of how different values of p shift would affect the flow density relationship. For the first flow
density graph (Figure 1), all vehicles were given a maximum speed of 10. For the second flow density
graph (Figure 2), maximum speeds of 8, 9, and 10 were distributed among the vehicles with equal
probability. In a second set of trials, I measured average speed and density. The average speed of a
vehicle over time was calculated by computing the total distance it had traveled and dividing by 3000
time steps. Since a vehicle moved a distance equivalent to its speed in each time step, average speed
could also be calculated by computing the sum of its speeds in each time step and dividing by 3000.
Density was measured in the same way as in the first trial. Initially, 30 vehicles were placed on the

Scarlet Letter Women
Mankind creates prejudice against itself through a history of tradition and false beliefs. In turn, women
face the brunt of such aggression and ideology. Arising from the idea of original sin, in which Eve led
Adam to their fall, mankind devolves women into characters of temptation and seduction, effectively
ostracizing and placing the blame on the female gender. In the 19th century romantic novel, The
Scarlet Letter, Nathaniel Hawthorne examines the effect of the sin and lust on the identity of women
and aims to inspire his audience to challenge the ideas of sin in current society in order to eliminate
gender discrimination and create a world of equality. When an individual commits an act of sin, the
very act leaves its mark on the individual ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Hawthorne uses his character to show the need for women to stand up against such a system.
Hawthorne builds Hester as a character unimpaired by the misogyny of her society and instead focuses
on her identity as a caring saint and a protective mother. Just as Hester disregard the harsh words of
the people around her, women must do the same and focus on their own identity in order to truly gain
their independence. Instead of society holding women to a standard and identity establish by it,
women must release themselves from their chains and focus on discovering the very essence of their
identity and establish their own selves. Furthermore, Hawthorne builds his characters as defiant to the
very idea of sin itself. Hester embellishes the scarlet letter and openly displays it to the public (add
quote). Hawthorne reveals the need for women to challenge society s idea of sin. Society passes
judgment upon those who violates its code of conduct. However, the very act itself leads to
contradiction and hypocrisy. Society punishes itself in an attempt to correct and justify themselves in
the eye of god. Women must realize the fatal flaws of such beliefs and not allow society to drag them
down into a cesspool of guilt and repentance. For if women allows sin to dominate their lives, they
subject themselves to a life of loneliness, despair, and constant attacks on their conscience. Hawthorne
wishes for women to accept their sins and in turn uses it as a weapon against the discrimination of
society. The acceptance of sin takes away its power to control and dominates the women s life. By
openly revealing the sin to society, women can take back their identities and limit society in its ability
to hurt them. Furthermore, instead of shying away from the harsh treatment of society, women needs
to resist and confront such oppression. By speaking out about their

Persuasive Essay On Circus Animals
A little girl got lost behind a circus on her way to the bathroom, only to come out and see an elephant
being hooked and whipped by multiple grown men at the same time. She noticed it was the same
elephant that tripped on stage 5 minutes before. I could have been that little girl, and I know I d be
terrified to ever go back to a circus or zoo again. As an animal lover, I wanted to see something done
about the situation. It s not fair to animals. Circuses shouldn t even be a thing. Animals deserve a fair
life in the wild where they belong. They shouldn t have to be absolutely terrified every time they make
the even smallest mistake. While researching this topic I found I had few questions that weren t
answered in any articles. How long has this been going on? Why haven t people tried to fix this
earlier? But there was one question, my driving question, the one I really wanted an answer to. It was:
What can I do to help animals around the world from being abused in entertainment? After
researching through videos, articles, and podcasts I ve found that there aren t many that had solutions,
but there are still many possible solutions.
Many animals in entertainment often get abused for the slightest mistakes, they get abuse from
slashing to even being killed Circus animals are shocked, slashed with sharp hooks, whipped, beaten
with clubs and even starved.
Circuses often say the animals perform out of love for their owners, but thatś completely false. They
perform out of fear of being beaten and whipped.
Animals that try to escape their enclosures don t only get shocked or cut by the wire fences but are
even sometimes shot to death. That´s ashaming. If the animals are so important to the zoos and
circuses then why treat them the way they do? These animals don t even get the proper vet care, and
with all the injuries they get a day, they need it. Animals should be getting a checkup at the least,
every two months and especially circus animals, because of how active they are. Animals in zoos and
circuses are never taught to survive in the wild. So if at one point an animal is replaced and put into
the wild, they´ll easily get hunted and/or attacked. I´m all for cute tricks and fun. But the way these
animals are

Two Reasons Why Mother Teresa Is A Hero
Attention Grabbing Device
Imagine people everywhere, lining alleyways. Homeless families begging for food and diseases
running rampant on the streets. These are the slums of Calcutta, India. Life in this city is miserable,
desperation pervades this hopeless environment. But within there s still some optimism to be found.
Strangely enough, it comes in the form of a woman, barely five feet tall, and armed with nothing but
kindness.
Thesis
Mother Teresa is a hero because she is selfless, courageous, and has strong leadership abilities.
Bio
Mother Teresa was born in Skopje, Macedonia in 1910. At the age of 18 she joined a group of nuns in
Ireland. After months of training with the Sisters of Loreto, she traveled to India. She took her

Mother Teresa gave up everything just to help those less fortunate. For example, in 1979 she won a
Nobel Peace Prize with $192,000 worth of prize money and instead of keeping she used it to create
multiple homes for victims of leprosy. She was commemorated with the highest honor, yet she was
still thinking of others.
The second reason Mother Teresa is a hero is because she is courageous. For instance, many people
could have shunned her for helping the unwanted, but she found the courage and strength in her heart
to help those in need. Also, she helped a particular group that had leprosy, which is a very contagious
disease. She set up many clinics in order to help these people even though she put herself at risk of
catching the disease.
The final reason Mother Teresa is a hero is because she was a strong leader. This trait can be
exemplified because she had a relentless focus on her mission helping the poor. She effectively
implemented her plan and cared for the people of Calcutta. Mother Teresa was a situational leader, for
example she helped people according to their situation, if they were starving she would give them
food, if they were homeless she would provide a home for them to say at, or if they were sick she
helped them to heal. If a situation came, she would find a solution to help them in some

Government Power Contradicts In Today s Society
Governmental power contradicts with how our society functions as a whole. In today s society the
government influences the lives of many with how we need to treat others. For example, in 2016 after
the presidential elections, a young African American girl by the name of Nida was bullied and
terrorized for the color of her skin. A young boy had told her that her family was going to get kicked
back to their country now with a new president sending illegal immigrants back to their home country
(Kowalski). In the same sense, the recent tragedy that has hit our nation today is the Marjory
Stoneman Douglas High School shooting in Parkland, Florida. 19 year old Nikolas Cruz, a former
student, opened fire on the high school with an AR 15 semi automatic

Why Russian Businesses Use Technologies
In the world of fierce business competition, technologies often become the principal source of
competitive advantage for firms. Technological innovations have already become the basic measure of
entrepreneurial growth and business success, but only firms that possess unique, inimitable technology
resources can successfully outperform their competitors. State and policy support is crucial for the
successful adoption of technologies by firms. The case of Russia is no exception. Russia possesses a
sophisticated scientific and technology base, but the rates of adoption of technologies in Russian
business remain formidably low. Only a broad government based innovation policy can help Russian
businesses to move forward and to become a part of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Businesses in Russia operate in the atmosphere of economic instability and elevated legal risks, which
makes successful adoption of technologies virtually impossible. Although the rates of technology
adoption in Russian business are gradually increasing, the country is still an eternity away from
creating a perfect and profitable business technology synergy.
Russia and Russian businesses are characterized by the growing levels of technology adoption.
Russian businesses rapidly expand their innovative capabilities (Gurkov 299). The more optimistic
Russian CEOs feel about their business future, the higher the rates of technology adoption become
(Gurkov 300). Almost every third entrepreneur and CEO in Russia that enjoys a good or excellent
position in business reports intensive changes in their technological structures and infrastructures
(Gurkov 300). The fact that Russia possesses a sophisticated technology base facilitates the adoption
of technological innovations in Russian firms (Watkins 2). The professionalism of scientific and IT
personnel facilitates the rapid advancement of technologies in Russian business. Russia s technology
and innovation potential is much greater than that of other countries with similar

Never Let Me Go Visual Art
Kazuo Ishiguru s Never Let Me Go a novel narrated by a young woman, Kathy, who tells stories about
herself and her two close friends, Ruth and Tommy, as they grow up. The trio face many typical trials
and tribulations that are typically associated with coming of age. However, these children are anything
but typical. Set in a dystopian world in England in the seventies and eighties, Kathy, Ruth and Tommy
are all clones, whose purpose in life is to donate their organs for the sake of medicine. They all attend
a special boarding school, Hailsham, that is run by regular humans for clone children. At Hailsham,
creativity is highly valued, and the children are instructed in creating art, such as paintings and poetry.

Madame might choose this particular method of proof because visual art is usually considered proof of
creativity, a fundamentally human quality. Human have made art for thousands of years, beginning

connecting it with the human experience. Art is not the best way of proving that the Hailsham students

Describe The Dark Ages
You ve probably heard about the big and scary Roman Empire, or the rise of the renaissance, but it
seems like most people don t notice that there were actually 1000 years in between those historic
events. Those who do know about it call this time period the Dark Ages because of its lack of
progression. This statement however is actually contrary to the truth; in fact there is probably a lot of
everyday things that wouldn t even be existent if the Dark Ages didn t happen. In this essay we will
learn about some of those things and why I believe the Dark Ages is an inappropriate term used to
describe this time period, that should instead be more commonly known as the Middle Ages. Though
media sources like The American Cyclopedia were interpreted in a way which made the Dark Ages a
bad thing; it wasn t intended to be that way. But instead it was intended to mean that we didn t have a
good grasp of what happened in that time period. Once researchers learned about the things that
happened during the Dark Ages they started referring them to the Middle Ages to try and scrap the
idea that there ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

I found, through further research, that sexual abuse includes more than bodily contact. Which means,
having a child view pornographic material is considered sexual abuse. A HelpGuide.Org article, Child
Abuse and Neglect, explained that sexual abuse victims feel guilty and shameful for the abuse they
have endured. Can you believe that? They are made to feel as though their word versus the abuser s
word means nothing. I have often heard that men/women that sexually abuse children are most often a
family member or friend of the family. Think about that for a minute. How are children supposed to
process what is happening to them by this trusted adult they have known (probably) most of their
lives? According to eSchoolToday, children who are abused sexually tend to show some physical
symptoms (hiding, STDs, and genital pain), health symptoms (anorexia, bowel disorders, and repeated
headaches/stomach aches), and behavioral symptoms (substance abuse, withdraw, and decreased
school performance/participation). Again, the long term effects of this type of abuse mimic the other
two mentioned thus far. Melissa and Joshua Hall, however, provided some additional effects in their
article entitled, The Long Term Effects of Childhood Sexual Abuse: Counseling Implications. The
article reiterated that stress and anxiety play a role long term. They also explained how former
children of sexual abuse tend to act one of two ways about sexual activity in their teen and/or adult
years. They either overindulge...OR...act completely uninterested. Again, every child will respond
differently to abusive situations. Trying to cope with the debilitating effects of abuse will be discussed
in the pages to come, but neglect needs to be addressed

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Ordinary Portland Cement
General
Ordinary Portland cement (OPC) is most widely used cementitious material and is the second most
consumed resource in the world as it forms the basic ingredient in concrete and Bricklayer Joseph
Aspdin of Leeds, England first prepared Portland cement early in the 19th century by sweltering
powdered limestone and clay in his kitchen stove [13]; this laid the foundation for an industry to
develop a binder called ordinary Portland cement. The major applications of concrete in the
construction field such as infrastructure, habitation and transportation have greatly influenced in
affecting the economic progress by improving the stability and quality of life to a very wide extent.
However, inherent disadvantages are that production of Ordinary Portland cement (OPC) using raw
materials such as limestone and clay are depleting and quarrying of them is causing the source for
environmental degradation. OPC production involves a very high energy intensive and exothermic
process, as because it consumes 4Gj energy and produces about one ton of carbon dioxide, where it
significantly contributes to 5% of global carbon ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Netherlands when she was around 23, to escape the marriage her father had arranged for her to her
cousin. She is known as a big criticizer of the religion of Islam, and this is largely in part because of
her own experiences (which you will learn about later in this paper). Ayaan possesses many qualities

People have been warning about this backlash for 30 years. (Bethune). This shows just how persistent
she is (though many people, even other Muslims here in America, have sent her death threats because
of her speeches). These are not just good traits to have for a leader, but anyone could have these.
Being brave, persevering, and persisting are all great skills to have in this world. They will help you
with many things: getting good grades, a job, a raise, etc. If students like us will take away anything
from learning about Ayaan Hirsi Ali, it should be that you should not be afraid to speak your mind,

outspoken atheist). Everyone disagrees about Ayaan. They say she shouldn t be so critical of Islam,
and that not everyone is bad just because of their religion. This is a great thing to discuss, because no
two people are exactly the same: One person may think that what she is doing is fine, but someone
else may say that Ayaan is being too harsh to others. Whatever you may believe, you should know that
Ayaan Hirsi Ali has changed the way people think about religion and the restriction of speech

The University 12 Miles Away
My college education began not at the institution about which I am writing, but rather another
university 12 miles away. For two years, I attended Maryville University in St. Louis with a triple
major in English, psychology, and sociology. Maryville University s campus was small with just three
small academic buildings on campus. As I progressed from my freshman to my sophomore year, I
realized I had outgrown the small campus that had once felt comfortable. With only one key faculty
member in each of my major departments, the classes had become predictable. When the spring of my
sophomore year arrived, I decided to transfer to Webster University where I could learn from a larger
faculty with varied points of view. Although I did not spend all four years of my undergraduate career
at Webster University, I have great affection for it. The campus was a mix of recently constructed
academic buildings and repurposed historical homes in the St. Louis suburb of Webster Groves,
including the English department s home: Pearson House. The amalgamation of buildings added a
sense of both the past and the future to the university s campus; however, as a student, I was unaware
of the history behind the campus I grew to love. Coincidentally, Webster University is celebrating its
centennial this academic year.

Psychoanalytic Theory In The Film Pan s Labyrinth
The founder of psychoanalysis, Sigmund Freud, developed a wide variety of psychoanalytic theories
that are often used to examine a diverse body of literary and artistic works. For example, the Family

consists of the child fantasizing that they are not the biological son or daughter of their given parent.
This phenomenon commonly occurs when a parent fails to reciprocate affection to their child;
consequently, causing them to seek retaliation through imaginary means. In addition, the Family

The Ten Commandments Vs. Native American Religion
The Ten Commandments to some may not be important but to the Christian and Native American
religion it plays a key role in their beliefs as beings on the earth. They both believe in a greater god,
and being honest, but also differ in how the rules are written. For example, the Native American
Commandments say to be honest, while the Christian Commandments states, thou shalt not lie. With
all the different religions in the world, these two have found themselves relatable.
Though they are similar, the Christian Commandments seem to be much stricter. In the rules, God
states that you should not covet your neighbor s wife, and belongings. That s two more points about
jealousy than the Native American rules. One would say that the Christian set of rules focuses more on
the negative and what you shouldn t do, while the Native American set focuses mostly on how to
improve the earth and oneself.
Animals and the Earth are very important to the Native American culture. In the creation story, it
states that a giant sea turtle rose up out of the water... If the birds placed the woman on his back, she
would be able to rest... (Iroquois 2). This shows how the Native Americans are forever in the turtles
dept., therefore promising to always respect all animals. Another example would be that the woman

amount of fallout protection his home would provide his family in the event of a nuclear attack. The
Bureau of the Census provided the information as part of the Home Shelter Survey. The report was not

recommended minimum of forty. The man thought of how scared his wife was; he just wanted her to

Isolating and identifying major motivating factors in the complex global landscape of the Cold War is,
without a doubt, difficult, but in the case of the Minuteman Missiles and the Amit Ballistic Missile
System, three factors can be identified. The major shift in Vietnam policy, a growth in counter culture
and willingness to protest, and the decreased influence of the Catholic Church in North Dakota over
the six year period between the installation of Minuteman Missiles and the installation of the Anti
Ballistic Missile all contributed to an increase in protest in 1970. The birth of civil defense in the
United States was slow, painful, and it almost ended before it began. The Office of Civil Defence was
created on May 20, 1941, with the primary purpose of evaluating civil defense programs in other
countries. As a result of this evaluation, civil defense was deemed unnecessary, and the office was
slated to close just two years after its creation. The office clung to life for two additional years until it
was closed in 1945, and, with it, the idea of civil defense in the United States appeared to die. It was
not until 1950 that President Truman would breath new life into civil defense for the United States.
Truman created the Federal Civil Defence Administration with the purpose of minimising the effects
of a nuclear attack, dealing with the immediate effect of said attack, and aiding in the national

Theme Of Isolation In Frankenstein
The film opens on the main character Victor Van Dort, the son of recently wealthy aristocrats, being
forced to Victoria, daughter to a family of even wealthier aristocrats. (Russell) The Van Dorts are
looking to raise their status in society through the marriage to the aristocrats, and the Everglots are
hoping to further bury their secret bankruptcy and get their hands on the money they, wrongly, assume
Victor s family has. At the very beginning, Victor is shown to be a very reserved, shy character when
he is shown alone in his room drawing a butterfly while his parents sing excitedly about the upcoming
wedding. This also emphasizes the drastic differing opinions about the wedding, and how Victor
obviously dreads it. This introduces the classic character of the old foolish woman through Victor s
mother and gives the audience a silent look into the character of Victor. He is isolated at the beginning
by his own will. (Drouillard). Isolated protagonists are used often in Gothic fiction as seen in another
Victor, this one Frankenstein, who hides himself away to focus on work. Before the wedding, it s very
obvious that Victor is nervous, and the parents are just as worried that he will not perform correctly at
the ceremony. As he rehearses in the woods, Victor manages to properly say his vows, puts the
wedding ring on a hand like branch, and everything goes smoothly. Of course, in a fantasy, nothing
truly goes as planned and the branch like hand is revealed to be a real hand.

Medieval Weapons Vs Medieval Warfare
While both books have many similar concepts, they also include unique disparities. Both texts may
describe the innovation and accomplishment of the Middle Ages. However, The Medieval Machine
explains how advancements within industry can be immensely beneficial to society. On the other end
of the spectrum, Medieval Warfare attends to the central theme of innovation in a negative fashion.
While improving the fortitude and technology of an army is beneficial to the soldiers, it negatively
impacts society. The continual innovation in weapons and armor will only provoke further warfare.

valid notion even in today s society. Throughout the text, he describes how developments in armor led
to more powerful weapons. According to Medieval Warfare, plate armor was being used so
extensively, and protected the wearer so efficiently, that an entirely new type of sword began to
appear; the thrusting sword, or estoc (Wise, 70). Additionally, better strategies and scheming in siege
warfare resulted in the development of castles and other fortifications. Jean Gimpel certainly agrees
with this notion regarding the domino effect of inventions, but he delves deeper into the

Christian Beliefs Of Christian Church
Over a thousand years ago, a small Catholic parish waited nervously. There were at least a hundred
among them. They were openly Christian, Catholic individuals. They waited in the bottom of a Roman
stadium, prevented from entering the main ring by a metal gate. On the other side of this gate lurked
various vicious animals and gladiators. These Catholic individuals were about to be slaughtered for
their faith. They were indeed anxious loved ones said their final good byes, friends gave one another
their final farewells. However anxious, they were ready. They were prepared to unite their suffering to
the cross of Jesus Christ. An old man walked up to a young adult who only just converted to
Christianity, who then found himself ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Catholic Church follows this practice today in remembrance of the abuse of the first Christians,
and speaks the same words as a reminder of our own duty to follow Christ wherever he may lead us
even into martyrdom. Examples like these inspire the tepid and challenge the complacent. But no
religion can flourish, nor can it provide invaluable sustenance in the form of spiritual nourishment, if
it is constantly and consistently oppressed. Religious freedom is essential to the existence of the
Catholic Church and any other church for it to perform its proper and full function; no faith can lead
individuals to the ultimate wellspring of life God without the ability to freely expand and come to such
individuals. And even more than that, religious freedom brings, to every nation that protects it, an
invaluable character and people that allow a nation to thrive. Religious Freedom diversifies societies,
making them more culturally diverse, and thus more economically and politically adaptable and
sustainable; substantiates a given nation s moral base, which will prevent cultural regression and
degeneration; and encourages individuals to pursue lives of sainthood and righteousness that would
otherwise be discouraged and disdained by an oppressive state.

Macbeth Hubris Analysis
In the Merriam Webster Dictionary, the definition of hubris is [e]xaggerated pride or self confidence.
Hubris is also known as ego, and when someone has an overly large ego, it could lead them to their
demise. In William Shakespeare s play Macbeth, this is what the tragic hero s downfall results in. In
the play Macbeth, Shakespeare shares the story of a warrior named Macbeth and the path he takes to
become king and how his hubris, or ego, ultimately leads him to his own demise. Shakespeare also
introduces the audience to Banquo, Lady Macbeth, Malcolm, and Macduff as other important
characters throughout the play. Another problem with an overly large hubris is that if placed in the
wrong hands, it can be a dangerous weapon of mass destruction as shown by Macbeth. There are
many different factors that do influence Macbeth to his demise. Theses influences include the witches
as well as his own wife, Lady Macbeth. Although these people did influence Macbeth to lead him to
his own demise, it is Macbeth s fault for letting his hubris get in his way of success which ultimately
leads him to his own demise. Even though Macbeth is influenced by not only the witches, but his wife
as well, the majority of his demise comes from within himself through his excessive amount of hubris.
One way Shakespeare foreshadows Macbeth s ego leading him to his demise is when the witches say,
Fair is foul, and foul is fair (Shakespeare 1). What Shakespeare is trying to hint to the reader is that by
the end of the play, the witches will succeed in turning anything fair into foul, referring to Macbeth.
Another way that Macbeth lets his ego lead to his demise is when he says, Thou marvel st at my words
(Shakespeare 95). What Shakespeare is trying to show the audience when Macbeth says this to Lady
Macbeth is that he now is sort of looking down at his wife and talking to her as if she is one the
peasants he rules over, ultimately believing that his wife is not as powerful as him. Another way he
lets his ego get the best of him is when he decides to kill Banquo and Fleance because he is worried
that either Banquo and Fleance will try to forcefully take his throne out from under him. One example
of this is when Macbeth says, Full

Candide Satire Essay
Voltaire s satire in Candide
Satire is the ridicule of a society or people in a society in order to bring about reform. Voltaire wrote
Candide in order to bring about a possible reform in his society over 230 years ago. Today we use
satire a little differently. But, in my personal opinion, Voltaire s satire has held up over the years and is
relevant in today s society.
One of Voltaire s main points of satire is that all people are the same no matter their wealth. He did
this by ridiculing the Baron in his writing. He said that the Baron was the most powerful lord in
Westphalia, for his castle possessed a door and windows. This is still relevant today, because
comedians in our society still take stabs at rich people even though they are just like everyone else.
Voltaire also uses satire to make a point that a person s rights did not always apply in his society. He
used Candide to make this point. In the story Candide is a very simple minded boy and Voltaire used
this to his advantage to get his point across. He made it clear that Candide lost all rights granted to him
when the Bulgarians thought that he had deserted them. Today when people are punished for a crime,
they have the possibility of losing ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He spoke out secretly against the intolerance, cruelty, and smugness of his time. One example of him
speaking out about this, is the punishment that Candide received. He was suppose to run the gauntlet
36 times. He was going to be hit by every soldier in his company twice each time her ran it. He only
ran it twice which meant that he only was hit 8,000 times. This was direct hit to the cruelty, smugness.
Voltaire was trying to express the horrifying treatment that people in his society received. This would
still apply to the people of today because our world is still just as cruel and smug. For example,we
have terrorists and animal poachers in our society. So this satire would still

The Fall Of The House Of Usher Effect
Edgar Allan Poe once said that the artistry of narratives is in the ability to achieve a unity of effect
(Clement, lecture notes). In his narrative The Fall of the House of Usher, a man gets a letter from an
old friend who wants him to go to his family estate because he is sick. When he arrives, he notices that
his friend and his sister are not the only ones affected by illness. It is obvious that the house is too. The
illness leads to the death of the Ushers and also the destruction of the house. In The Fall of the House
of Usher, Poe makes death and decay, as well as overall illness, his unity of effect. He creates this
effect by using the different features of narratives. He establishes this effect through his narrator, the
setting of the story, and the events that affect the characters. In this short narrative, there are many
textual examples that enforce the effect of death, decay, and illness. In the succeeding paragraphs, I

In the early time periods where oral narratives were the only form of story, narratives existed to teach
a lesson or to illustrate a moral. In the medieval period, narratives were for entertainment. It wasn t
until the nineteenth century that tales became about truth. Narratives like The Fall of the House of
Usher aren t about teaching or entertaining. These narratives are about the message or experience that
is being created through writing. They are about presenting readers with an effect that is made to be

decay, and illness because of Poe s use of language, story world, narrator, characters, and conflict.

The Main Role Of Lord Vishnu And Lord Shiva
Vishnu is the middle god in the Hindu triumvirate (or Trimurti). The trio consists of three gods who
are responsible for the creation, upkeep and destruction of the world. The other two gods are Brahma
and Shiva. Lord Vishnu s job is to protect the people of Earth, restore, and to preserve. So his overall
theme is to protect the people of Earth. He reigns in Heaven with his wife, Lakshmi, the goddess of
wealth. Lord Vishnu weirdly enough originated when Lord Shiva rubbed nectar on his ankle1 (Shiva
Purana) .The Shiva Purana is one of eighteen Sanskrit texts in Hinduism. It primarily centers around
the Hindu god; Lord Shiva and the goddess Parvati, but references all gods. What makes Vishnu one
of the Trimurti, and so important to praise? Vishnu s purpose is to protect the people who live on
Earth. So his main theme is to protect people, specifically the people of the Hindu belief. So
everything Lord Vishnu does should boil down to, protecting Earth or the people of Hindu belief 2.
Vishnu lives in Param Padam, the supreme abode. In this place, liberated souls spend eternity living in
supreme bliss. He promises people who are well, eternal bliss which comes with protection in the
Param Padam. Vishnu would constantly come down to earth in the form of Lord Narayana in order to

Tertullian On The Apparel Of Women Analysis
In times of turmoil for the church, intellectuals and scholars who defended Christians against
accusations from outsiders were dubbed the Christian Apologists. They included people like Justin
Martyr in the 100s A.D., Augustine of Hippo in 300s 400s A.D, and Tertullian in 100s 200s A.D.
Tertullian wrote pieces on philosophy in the church, prayer, and baptism. He was one of several
apologists to write about God being three separate things , but Tertullian was the first to name the Son,
Spirit, and Father as the Trinity. He was one of many to write against women in the church, but he was
the most vulgar and profane. Tertullian s publication, On the Apparel of Women, is characterized by
his mimicking of Paul s writings in the New Testament, paradoxes and hypocrisies throughout,
obvious misogyny by a modern standard, and men s harmful view in a time where I, as a woman,
would not be allowed to learn to read and write if my husband or father deemed it so. Not only did he
insult a women s place in the church as others did, he attacked a women s place in anything. In the
centuries after he lived, his teachings aren t as influential in the church, but his base ideals are still part
of our society as out dated standards.

How The Attack On Pearl Harbor Changed History
How the Attack on Pearl Harbor Changed History Imagine, sleeping in your bunk on the USS Arizona
just after 8:00 am, when suddenly the ship begins to call general quarters. This is what it was like for
the crew of the USS Arizona, the USS California, and the USS Missouri. The attack on Pearl Harbor
was underway by just before 8:00 am on December 7th 1941. For my research paper, I will talk about
the attack on Pearl Harbor and how it changed the course of history. I will discuss the general
information on the attack on Pearl Harbor, the course of attack that the Japanese made, the power of
air forces, the defense of Pearl Harbor, and how the attack changed the course of history. First I will

with torpedoes (Perlman, 2011). The battle only spanned 90 minutes, but it would be one of the worst
moments in American history with over 3,700 casualties. The day after the attack on Pearl Harbor, the
U.S. President, Franklin Roosevelt, asked Congress for a declaration of war on the nation of Japan.

The Crucible Tone
The Crucible, by Arthur Miller, revolves around the Salem witch trials of the 15th century. Much of
what precedes the play portion of the novel is dedicated to establishing the background of the novel.
This passage, in specific, sets the tone of the novel as it describes the ideology of the witch hunts, and
how they came into effect. The passage summarizes the fundamental ideas of the witch hunts as a
paradox stating, The witch hunt was a perverse manifestation of the panic which set among the classes
when the balance began to turn toward greater individual freedom (Miller 11). These words are an
important part of the novel because it lays out a groundwork which the rest of the ideas and concepts
that are brought up in the novel will build themselves upon. Simply put, it sets the tone for the rest of
the novel. It describes the fears that the characters have, and what conflicts they will undergo. For
instance, signs of mob mentality can be gleamed from the passage. This can be seen when it says,
balance has yet to be struck between order and freedom (Miller 11).

Humor And Its Effect On My Life
Humor is essential in order to live life to the fullest, and this is because of laughter. Laughing is so
imperative because the ability to laugh easily and frequently is a tremendous resource for surmounting
problems, enhancing your relationships, and supporting both physical and emotional health (Smith 1).
Humor has been a huge part of my life because it has helped me out of countless awkward situations,
been apart of every inside joke, made bad times good, and good times better. Although I enjoy mostly
all humor, I associate my favorite types of humor with movies or videos. Sarcasm is when someone
uses irony or even mocking to make a joke. I find sarcasm to be humorous because it tends to confuse
others. Sarcasm can sometimes be misleading. In most cases when sarcasm is used, the audience is
unsure if you are actually joking or not. This typically gives you a good laugh just by looking at their
facial expressions. I am also fond of sarcasm because it is an excellent ice breaker in uncomfortable
situations. It allows one to get to know another person quickly. If you use sarcasm you can tell if
someone has a sensitive personality or a playful one. A couple of of actors I find to have good
sarcastic humor is Melissa McCarthy and Mathew Perry. Melissa McCarthy stars in multiple movies
and television shows such as The Heat and Bridesmaids. I find her use of sarcasm in the movie The
Heat to be specifically entertaining. Mathew Perry is most sarcastic in the television show

The Views Parents And Teachers Have On Inclusion And How...
The purpose of this report is to outline the views parents and teachers have on inclusion and how these
views impact on classroom inclusion strategies. This report will discuss inclusion and the benefits for
all students. The discussion will then focus on recommendations for bringing these views into line
with current policies. This will be investigated by reviewing literature on inclusion through recently
published journal articles and internet sites.
According to Inclusion Now (2015) inclusion means that all children, regardless of their background
or ability, are given the chance to play, learn and interact together , meaning every person regardless of
their age, gender, race, religion or disability is given the opportunity to be included in situations and
services equally and fairly. The views parents, teachers and the community hold have an impact on
classroom inclusion strategies. These are the three main stakeholders in a child s education and all of
them contribute to the outcomes of these students.
Teachers
Teachers in particular have a major influence on their student s individual learning. Their attitudes
towards inclusion have a significant impact on the strategies they may or may not use within their
classroom. The teacher s views towards inclusion can be determined by many factors. Teachers who
have been more educated in this area may have a more positive outlook on inclusive education.
Teachers need to provide their students with different learning

Ms. Bauman There are some unbelievable philosophies. One of the unbelievable philosophies would
have to be Plotinus. According to page 133, Plotinus believed that the world is a span between two
poles. At one end is the divine light which he calls the One. Sometimes he calls it God. At the other
end is absolute darkness, which receives none of the light from the One. But Plotinus s point is that
this darkness actually has no existence. It is simply the absence of light in other words, it is not. All
that exists is God, or the One, but in the same way that a beam of light grows progressively dimmer
and is gradually extinguished, there is somewhat a point that the divine glow cannot reach. Even
though some scientists might disagree with this, but there is a God. There is no poles that distinguish
our own hell or heaven. We are given a current life span in this Earth and if we follow His
commandments and follow the Lord, we will go to Heaven. There is no such thing as the pole theory
involving heaven and hell. A believable philosophy would have to be Democritus . Democritus is
somewhat believable. According to page 45, Democritus is believable in some parts due to the fact
that atoms are tiny unseen particles which were eternal and immutable . The part that is not ... Show

Where The Wild Things Are By Maurice Sendak
1. Where the Wild Things Are by Maurice Sendak is an exuberant picture book which will make it a
fun and exciting read. The compressed language will guide children easily throughout the book.
Sendak promotes a touching message of unconditional love, a message that even if one misbehaves,
there will be supper waiting on the table (Max does get sent to his room, but no matter how much he
has misbehaved, his mother will always love him and cherish him). Sendak also dives into deeper
psychological emotions . Max might be seen and chastised as a wild thing by his mother, his
emotional actions are described as an integral part of his being, maybe not quite appropriate, but also
not completely inappropriate, rather as a living, breathing part of Max s being. It is these emotions,
these feelings that are the impetus to Max s adventures in the realm of the Wild Things.
2. The Very Hungry Caterpillar by Eric Carle captures young readers with its vivid and colorful
collage illustrations and its deceptively hopeful story. With its die cut pages and finger sized holes to
explore, this is a satisfying book for children. The main character has to overcome his ravenous
appetite on his journey to become a butterfly will simply entice children and hopefully inspire them.
3. The Polar Express by Chris Van Allsburg is a book filled with pure magic and wonder. The moral of
the story is to dive in and believe, leaving reality behind. This book will not only let children indulge

1 Analyzes of Benefits of good Information Security governance
Have a good Information Security Governance that translates into a set of policies, processes, and
responsibilities associated with structures and people in the organization. It makes it possible to
clearly establish the decision making process and the guidelines for the management and use of IT, all
in a way that is aligned with the organization s vision, mission and strategic goals. It also ensures the
alignment of IT plans with business plans, which the anticipated benefits are actually being generated.

appropriate plans to mitigate, accept or avoid them. Having fundamental performance measurement
throughout this process, monitoring and monitoring strategy implementation, use of resources and
delivery of services.
In view of this definition, the creation of a Board Committee is fundamental to define, guide and
ensure that all processes and risks are being considered. Another important factor in this analysis

Effects Of Sweatshops
Terrible Sweatshops: The Examination of the Unethicalness
Figure 1 (Lewin)
FORCED TO WORK EXHAUSTING HOURS this is the label which a woman who bought a
summer dress at Primark found (See figure 1). The message was a cry for help from workers and
implies the harsh environment for the people in a sweatshop (Lewin). The word sweatshop was made
in the end of 1800s. The definition of the sweatshop is broad but it describes any workplace where
people are forced poor conditions and long hours of works with low wages (Annabelle). The US
Department of Labor defined a sweatshop as a factory which violates two or more labor laws
(DoSomething.org). People in developed countries tend to enjoy buying cheaper products and do not
care about the reality of the process they have made. In fact, many women and children are forced to
work in sweatshops in developing countries. Some corporations such as NIKE, GAP and Wal Mart
have already revealed those facts but the problem has not been solved yet (Bakan). Actually, those are
just few of the companies involved in sweatshop labor. By using sweatshops, many corporations
reduce their production costs. And millions of people still live with what they get from sweatshops
(Solution). Some people say the sweatshop is ethical because it provides better jobs than the average
jobs in those ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
People who believe that sweatshop is ethical argue that it is better to have jobs than to have no jobs at
all. They say that if the countries simply ban the low wage labor, the factories would move to other
countries which permit lower wages and the situation cannot be changed. And even if people think the
conditions of sweatshop labor are unfair and unethical, relative to their other alternatives, sweatshop
labor is a very attractive option for workers in the developing world. Some insist that workers would
only choose a job in a sweatshop when that job is better for them than any of their other alternatives

Summary Of Brave New World
Tyshiana Brooks
Mr. Kitchens
British Lit
5 May 2016 Tittle: The Pursuit of Truth and Happiness in the Brave New World
Imagine living in a world where everyone is happy. One is free to have sexual intercourse with a
partner of his or her choosing without any repercussion. However, there is a catch; one is required to
be happy all the time. In the novel Brave New World, their society is controlled and everyone is forced
to be happy. There are three characters that are not happy. Bernard who feels that he is an outsider and
miss treated, John who is also known as the savage and was hot raised in the world state society, and
Helmholtz who feels his work is meaningless and wants to be able to write meaningful things.
Humanity suffers in the world state society because the members of society are not making their own
decisions, which is the cause of the World State unhappiness.
The world state is not as truthful as it appears to be. The society is forced but the government makes
the citizens feels as if they make decisions on their own .An example of this is soma. Soma is a free
drug that is given to everyone. By talking soma citizens avoid the truth of their reality. Lenina is a
character who takes soma a lot throughout the novel. Lenina felt herself entitled, after this day of
queerness and horror... she swallowed six half gramme tablets of soma (Huxley 78). Instead of dealing
with uneasiness and fear she covered up the truth by using the soma. Bernard on the other hand did

Psychodynamic Personality Profile of Johnny Depp Essay
Personality, like most core Psychology subjects, is difficult to define. Personality is essentially the
science of describing and understanding people. No two people are the same; even identical twins will
tell you that they are very different to their identical counterpart. There are some who are anxious and
there are those who are risk takers. There are some who are carefree while there are those who are
highly strung and there are those who are over confident while some are just plain shy. It is this issue
of differences that are fundamental to the study and examination of personality.
Johnny Depp, born June 9th, 1963 in Owensboro, Kentucky self proclaimed barbeque capital of the
world has led an interesting life filled with ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Research also shows indicates that the Big Five has distinct biological substrates thereby linking trait
perspective with the biological perspective (DeYoung, Quilty Peterson, 2007). However this
convergence of perspectives is actually productive in that all perspectives by themselves have their
disadvantages as well as their advantages. If all perspectives can coincide with one another,
explanations of personality will become so much easier.
The psychoanalytic perspective is the most interesting theory of the analysis of an individual and their
personality. Initially developed by Freud during the latter half of the 1900s, it deals with, among other
things, the irrational and less predictable patterns of behaviour and human thinking, which is what
most other theories of personality often leave out and are criticised for it. In understanding Johnny
Depp, a psychodynamic perspective best accounts for his personality: as a complete theory, it can
explain his behaviour from when he was a child to becoming a famous movie star, integrates other
theories into its analysis, such as Evolutionary and Learning perspectives, thus providing a fairly
reliable and accurate interpretation of his personality.
As a kid, Johnny Depp had a troublesome childhood. His father was continually searching for secure
work in order to support his family, resulting in them moving around a lot, living in motels, shifting
from place to place. This no doubt took a

The Central Powers of World War I
World War I took place between 1914 and 1918. It was a fight between the Central Powers and the
Allies. The Allies included America, Britain, France, and Russia. The Central Powers were Germany,
Austria Hungary, and the Ottoman Empire, which is now considered Turkey. The United States was
involved in the war for a short period of time; it entered the war very late. There was a deadlock
between the Allies and Central Powers, but Germany knew that they were going to lose the war
because of the United States entering; they wanted to seek an armistice. The Allied Powers ended up
winning, and forced Germany to agree to the harsh terms in the armistice they had written up. The
United States faced many challenges and trouble in its own country after the war. Towards the end of
the war, troop movements contributed to a worldwide influenza epidemic. The disease took more than
500,000 lives alone in the United States alone in 1918 and 1919. The epidemic even killed a larger
amount of people worldwide than the amount of people that had died in the war. The epidemic arose
in two stages. The first phase, identified as the three day fever, appeared without warning in the late
spring of 1918. Few deaths were reported. Victims recovered after a few days. When the disease
surfaced again that fall, it was far more severe. Scientists, doctors, and health officials could not
pinpoint this plague which was striking so viciously and fast, evading treatment and resisting control.

With the ruling of the Monroe v. Pape case in 1961, it held the local governments could now he held
liable in federal courts. It would have to be proven that there was a violation of an individuals
constitutional rights and that the damage had been committed in violation to a policy or custom of that
local government. The main causes for liability come from allegations of non or improper
performance of their duties and responsibilities however, negligence does not always amount to
criminal negligence. Probation officers (PO), working on behalf of the state, are only immune if it can
be proven that their actions were in good faith.
When deciding if the good faith defense is the appropriate to use a reasonable test should be

Strengths And Weaknesses Of Nationalism In The Context Of...
Frantz Fanon was an Afro Caribbean philosopher and writer who worked for the Front de la
Liberation Nationale, FLN, and he developed a theory claiming that nationalism falls on the day that
Independence is declared. He argues that colonialisation creates a class division within colonial
societies and allows for European capital to infiltrate the decolonised countries and ultimately
controlling the processes of producing raw materials and selling them to European countries. This
essay will identify Fanon s assessment of the strengths and weaknesses of nationalism in context of
colonial and post colonial conditions using examples from Chapter 3 in The Pitfalls of National
Consciousness .
Fanon believes that national consciousness is the result ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The national bourgeoisie identifies itself with the western bourgeoisie because it learned denial and
corruption from the western bourgeoisie. Big farmers demanded a type of nationalization of
agricultural production after independence was proclaimed which allowed the big farms to absorb
farms previously owned by settlers but weaknesses of this new nationalization was that it did not
introduce new farming practices or farmed more intensely. The farmers were also able to legitimize
exploitation practices of their workers and had no plans for further progress. A weakness of nations
during colonialism is religion that split people up into different spiritual communities and this
religious strain could be responsible for racist practices and sentiments. Africa was divided into a
White (civilisation and tradition) and Black Africa (brutal and uncivilized) by the national bourgeoisie
that had taken over from the Europeans and they created a racial viewpoint. The national bourgeoisie
setup a system of exploitation in the African colonial regime and did their best to stop African s from
obtaining Utopia . The national bourgeoisie were powerless when it came to proceedings during
parliament and were unable to bring about social changes and opted for a single party governing
which can be seen as a modern form of a

  • 2. Literary Analysis Of The Poem Morte DArthur At first the poem Morte d Arthur, or the The Epic. The speaker says he is going to or is at the home of Francis Allen on Christmas Eve. Also there are the people and Holmes; the poet, Everard Hall; as the host. They gather around the wassail bowl (hot mulled cider) and discuss how the honor seems gone from Christmas. The speaker is tired from his day of ice skating and falling, and he dozes off, waking to the parson lamenting the general lack of faith throughout the world. Francis jokes and says he holds faith in Everard, and Everard responds by saying he has faith in the cider. The speaker asks Everard what became of his great gift of poetry that was so evident in college, and Francis says that Everard had been working on twelve books about King Arthur but threw them into the fire. It seems that Everard thought nothing new was said and the books were mere Homeric echoes, nothing worth. Francis says he has saved one book from the fire. The speaker s ears prick up, and he remembers the talent of his friend. After some urging, the poet begins to read. The noise of battle goes on all day. All of the men of the Round Table have fallen in Lyonesse. King Arthur has also been wounded, and his last knight, Sir Bedivere, brings him to a chapel near the field in the barren land. The King speaks to Bedivere about the severing of the company of knights, the men he loved, and how they will never talk again of lordly deeds in Camelot. He tells Bedivere to take his sword ... • 3. Cultural Appropriation In Pop Culture You see, the discussion surrounding appropriation takes on so many more layers than most think piece authors care to engage with layers that desperately need to be brought to the discussion (Jaikaran, Elizabeth). Movements that advocate the equality between races, religions, and cultures are extremely prominent in our modern day society (Cohen, Amanda). Cultural appropriation in pop culture allows for cultures to be spread and ultimately accepted by a wide variety of people. Once an audience sees someone they follow do something, they will likely accept it and try the same things; people in the media pave the way for everyone else and can start a movement. Putting cultures in separate groups and not allowing for certain styles to be used by others is the root of discrimination of cultures. The main influencers in pop culture have been knocking down these separations and preaching the idea of mixing cultural styles into every aspect of life. Pop culture has some of the most influence on society and the example that it sets for people to follow is needed ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Often times, the goal is to make women feel empowered and part of a larger whole. Increasing the amount of cultures that these magazines and their articles represent means that more women are able to feel a part of something and can knock down the walls of difference between groups of people. It is crucial for magazines to display various culturized styles in order for these cultures to feel included and is a great way to diminish the separation and therefore the discrimination of ... • 4. Theme Of Survival In Life Of Pi Survival is the key to any species continuing to exist, many of us manage to jeopardize our state of well being to sustain ourselves, resulting to violent motives and immoral urges. In the novel Life of Pi by Yann Martel, character Pi Patel stranded at sea, accompanied by animals due to a ship sinking that serves as the main purpose of the book is a great representation of the hardships a person goes through in order to survive. By viewing through the perspectives of how all animals are dangerous by nature, the cruel acts men will do in order to live, and overlooking individual morals, Pi reveals that in a life or death situation, survival will always overshadow one s humanity. This close analysis of the theme of survival proves that it has a big role in our everyday lives, as when our life is being threatened, there are no limits an animal will go in order to survive. One of the first ways Pi proves how survival outweighs humanity is through his observation that all animals are dangerous by nature. For example, Pi s father addresses to never get comfortable around animals and says Life will defend itself no matter how small it is. Every animal is ferocious and dangerous (Martel 41). This is a pivotal moment for Pi, as even though some animals may seem harmless, they can instantly turn into a savage due to their genetically hard wired behaviours when feeling threatened. Moreover, Pi s father decided to prove a point as to how dangerous the animals can be by ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Pathow And Density Experiment Essay For the first set of trials, flow and density were measured during each trial. The density of vehicles is defined as the number of vehicles per unit length. It was mea sured as the total number of vehicles divided by 303, the total number of spaces on the road. Since the number of cars on the road did not change over the course of one trial, the density could be measured at any point during the trial. Flow is defined as the number of vehicles passing a certain point on the road per unit time. To measure flow, the total number of vehicles that passed the right side of the Netlogo display was calculated and divided by the amount of time that passed, 3000 time steps. The probability of shifting (p shift) was set at 0.1 and the density was initially ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The density was increased in increments of 3 303 because the number of cars always has to be a multiple of 3 (so that there will be an equal number in each lane), 6 and the average flow over 3000 time steps was measured for each density setting. This allowed me to create a flow density diagram for p shift=0.1. I repeated this procedure with p shift=0.2, p shift=0.3, p shift=0.5, and p shift=0.8 to get an idea of how different values of p shift would affect the flow density relationship. For the first flow density graph (Figure 1), all vehicles were given a maximum speed of 10. For the second flow density graph (Figure 2), maximum speeds of 8, 9, and 10 were distributed among the vehicles with equal probability. In a second set of trials, I measured average speed and density. The average speed of a vehicle over time was calculated by computing the total distance it had traveled and dividing by 3000 time steps. Since a vehicle moved a distance equivalent to its speed in each time step, average speed could also be calculated by computing the sum of its speeds in each time step and dividing by 3000. Density was measured in the same way as in the first trial. Initially, 30 vehicles were placed on the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Scarlet Letter Women Mankind creates prejudice against itself through a history of tradition and false beliefs. In turn, women face the brunt of such aggression and ideology. Arising from the idea of original sin, in which Eve led Adam to their fall, mankind devolves women into characters of temptation and seduction, effectively ostracizing and placing the blame on the female gender. In the 19th century romantic novel, The Scarlet Letter, Nathaniel Hawthorne examines the effect of the sin and lust on the identity of women and aims to inspire his audience to challenge the ideas of sin in current society in order to eliminate gender discrimination and create a world of equality. When an individual commits an act of sin, the very act leaves its mark on the individual ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Hawthorne uses his character to show the need for women to stand up against such a system. Hawthorne builds Hester as a character unimpaired by the misogyny of her society and instead focuses on her identity as a caring saint and a protective mother. Just as Hester disregard the harsh words of the people around her, women must do the same and focus on their own identity in order to truly gain their independence. Instead of society holding women to a standard and identity establish by it, women must release themselves from their chains and focus on discovering the very essence of their identity and establish their own selves. Furthermore, Hawthorne builds his characters as defiant to the very idea of sin itself. Hester embellishes the scarlet letter and openly displays it to the public (add quote). Hawthorne reveals the need for women to challenge society s idea of sin. Society passes judgment upon those who violates its code of conduct. However, the very act itself leads to contradiction and hypocrisy. Society punishes itself in an attempt to correct and justify themselves in the eye of god. Women must realize the fatal flaws of such beliefs and not allow society to drag them down into a cesspool of guilt and repentance. For if women allows sin to dominate their lives, they subject themselves to a life of loneliness, despair, and constant attacks on their conscience. Hawthorne wishes for women to accept their sins and in turn uses it as a weapon against the discrimination of society. The acceptance of sin takes away its power to control and dominates the women s life. By openly revealing the sin to society, women can take back their identities and limit society in its ability to hurt them. Furthermore, instead of shying away from the harsh treatment of society, women needs to resist and confront such oppression. By speaking out about their ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Persuasive Essay On Circus Animals A little girl got lost behind a circus on her way to the bathroom, only to come out and see an elephant being hooked and whipped by multiple grown men at the same time. She noticed it was the same elephant that tripped on stage 5 minutes before. I could have been that little girl, and I know I d be terrified to ever go back to a circus or zoo again. As an animal lover, I wanted to see something done about the situation. It s not fair to animals. Circuses shouldn t even be a thing. Animals deserve a fair life in the wild where they belong. They shouldn t have to be absolutely terrified every time they make the even smallest mistake. While researching this topic I found I had few questions that weren t answered in any articles. How long has this been going on? Why haven t people tried to fix this earlier? But there was one question, my driving question, the one I really wanted an answer to. It was: What can I do to help animals around the world from being abused in entertainment? After researching through videos, articles, and podcasts I ve found that there aren t many that had solutions, but there are still many possible solutions. Many animals in entertainment often get abused for the slightest mistakes, they get abuse from slashing to even being killed Circus animals are shocked, slashed with sharp hooks, whipped, beaten with clubs and even starved. Circuses often say the animals perform out of love for their owners, but thatś completely false. They perform out of fear of being beaten and whipped. Animals that try to escape their enclosures don t only get shocked or cut by the wire fences but are even sometimes shot to death. That´s ashaming. If the animals are so important to the zoos and circuses then why treat them the way they do? These animals don t even get the proper vet care, and with all the injuries they get a day, they need it. Animals should be getting a checkup at the least, every two months and especially circus animals, because of how active they are. Animals in zoos and circuses are never taught to survive in the wild. So if at one point an animal is replaced and put into the wild, they´ll easily get hunted and/or attacked. I´m all for cute tricks and fun. But the way these animals are ... Strangely enough, it comes in the form of a woman, barely five feet tall, and armed with nothing but kindness. Thesis Mother Teresa is a hero because she is selfless, courageous, and has strong leadership abilities. Bio Mother Teresa was born in Skopje, Macedonia in 1910. Mother Teresa gave up everything just to help those less fortunate. For example, in 1979 she won a Nobel Peace Prize with $192,000 worth of prize money and instead of keeping she used it to create multiple homes for victims of leprosy. She was commemorated with the highest honor, yet she was still thinking of others. The second reason Mother Teresa is a hero is because she is courageous. For instance, many people could have shunned her for helping the unwanted, but she found the courage and strength in her heart to help those in need. Also, she helped a particular group that had leprosy, which is a very contagious disease. She set up many clinics in order to help these people even though she put herself at risk of catching the disease. The final reason Mother Teresa is a hero is because she was a strong leader. This trait can be exemplified because she had a relentless focus on her mission helping the poor. She effectively implemented her plan and cared for the people of Calcutta. Mother Teresa was a situational leader, for example she helped people according to their situation, if they were starving she would give them food, if they were homeless she would provide a home for them to say at, or if they were sick she helped them to heal. Those who do know about it call this time period the Dark Ages because of its lack of progression. This statement however is actually contrary to the truth; in fact there is probably a lot of everyday things that wouldn t even be existent if the Dark Ages didn t happen. In this essay we will learn about some of those things and why I believe the Dark Ages is an inappropriate term used to describe this time period, that should instead be more commonly known as the Middle Ages. Though media sources like The American Cyclopedia were interpreted in a way which made the Dark Ages a bad thing; it wasn t intended to be that way. I found, through further research, that sexual abuse includes more than bodily contact. Which means, having a child view pornographic material is considered sexual abuse. A HelpGuide.Org article, Child Abuse and Neglect, explained that sexual abuse victims feel guilty and shameful for the abuse they have endured. Can you believe that? They are made to feel as though their word versus the abuser s word means nothing. I have often heard that men/women that sexually abuse children are most often a family member or friend of the family. Think about that for a minute. How are children supposed to process what is happening to them by this trusted adult they have known (probably) most of their lives? According to eSchoolToday, children who are abused sexually tend to show some physical symptoms (hiding, STDs, and genital pain), health symptoms (anorexia, bowel disorders, and repeated headaches/stomach aches), and behavioral symptoms (substance abuse, withdraw, and decreased school performance/participation). Again, the long term effects of this type of abuse mimic the other two mentioned thus far. Melissa and Joshua Hall, however, provided some additional effects in their article entitled, The Long Term Effects of Childhood Sexual Abuse: Counseling Implications. The article reiterated that stress and anxiety play a role long term. They also explained how former children of sexual abuse tend to act one of two ways about sexual activity in their teen and/or adult years. They either overindulge...OR...act completely uninterested. Advantages And Disadvantages Of Ordinary Portland Cement General Ordinary Portland cement (OPC) is most widely used cementitious material and is the second most consumed resource in the world as it forms the basic ingredient in concrete and Bricklayer Joseph Aspdin of Leeds, England first prepared Portland cement early in the 19th century by sweltering powdered limestone and clay in his kitchen stove [13]; this laid the foundation for an industry to develop a binder called ordinary Portland cement. The major applications of concrete in the construction field such as infrastructure, habitation and transportation have greatly influenced in affecting the economic progress by improving the stability and quality of life to a very wide extent. However, inherent disadvantages are that production of Ordinary Portland cement (OPC) using raw materials such as limestone and clay are depleting and quarrying of them is causing the source for environmental degradation. Everyone disagrees about Ayaan. They say she shouldn t be so critical of Islam, and that not everyone is bad just because of their religion. This is a great thing to discuss, because no two people are exactly the same: One person may think that what she is doing is fine, but someone else may say that Ayaan is being too harsh to others. • 18. The University 12 Miles Away My college education began not at the institution about which I am writing, but rather another university 12 miles away. For two years, I attended Maryville University in St. Louis with a triple major in English, psychology, and sociology. Maryville University s campus was small with just three small academic buildings on campus. As I progressed from my freshman to my sophomore year, I realized I had outgrown the small campus that had once felt comfortable. With only one key faculty member in each of my major departments, the classes had become predictable. When the spring of my sophomore year arrived, I decided to transfer to Webster University where I could learn from a larger faculty with varied points of view. Although I did not spend all four years of my undergraduate career at Webster University, I have great affection for it. The campus was a mix of recently constructed academic buildings and repurposed historical homes in the St. Louis suburb of Webster Groves, including the English department s home: Pearson House. The amalgamation of buildings added a sense of both the past and the future to the university s campus; however, as a student, I was unaware of the history behind the campus I grew to love. Coincidentally, Webster University is celebrating its centennial this academic year. • 22. The Ten Commandments Vs. Native American Religion The Ten Commandments to some may not be important but to the Christian and Native American religion it plays a key role in their beliefs as beings on the earth. They both believe in a greater god, and being honest, but also differ in how the rules are written. For example, the Native American Commandments say to be honest, while the Christian Commandments states, thou shalt not lie. With all the different religions in the world, these two have found themselves relatable. Though they are similar, the Christian Commandments seem to be much stricter. In the rules, God states that you should not covet your neighbor s wife, and belongings. That s two more points about jealousy than the Native American rules. One would say that the Christian set of rules focuses more on the negative and what you shouldn t do, while the Native American set focuses mostly on how to improve the earth and oneself. Animals and the Earth are very important to the Native American culture. In the creation story, it states that a giant sea turtle rose up out of the water... (Russell) The Van Dorts are looking to raise their status in society through the marriage to the aristocrats, and the Everglots are hoping to further bury their secret bankruptcy and get their hands on the money they, wrongly, assume Victor s family has. At the very beginning, Victor is shown to be a very reserved, shy character when he is shown alone in his room drawing a butterfly while his parents sing excitedly about the upcoming wedding. This also emphasizes the drastic differing opinions about the wedding, and how Victor obviously dreads it. This introduces the classic character of the old foolish woman through Victor s mother and gives the audience a silent look into the character of Victor. He is isolated at the beginning by his own will. (Drouillard). Isolated protagonists are used often in Gothic fiction as seen in another Victor, this one Frankenstein, who hides himself away to focus on work. Before the wedding, it s very obvious that Victor is nervous, and the parents are just as worried that he will not perform correctly at the ceremony. As he rehearses in the woods, Victor manages to properly say his vows, puts the wedding ring on a hand like branch, and everything goes smoothly. • 29. Macbeth Hubris Analysis In the Merriam Webster Dictionary, the definition of hubris is [e]xaggerated pride or self confidence. Hubris is also known as ego, and when someone has an overly large ego, it could lead them to their demise. In William Shakespeare s play Macbeth, this is what the tragic hero s downfall results in. In the play Macbeth, Shakespeare shares the story of a warrior named Macbeth and the path he takes to become king and how his hubris, or ego, ultimately leads him to his own demise. Shakespeare also introduces the audience to Banquo, Lady Macbeth, Malcolm, and Macduff as other important characters throughout the play. Another problem with an overly large hubris is that if placed in the wrong hands, it can be a dangerous weapon of mass destruction as shown by Macbeth. There are many different factors that do influence Macbeth to his demise. Theses influences include the witches as well as his own wife, Lady Macbeth. Although these people did influence Macbeth to lead him to his own demise, it is Macbeth s fault for letting his hubris get in his way of success which ultimately leads him to his own demise. Even though Macbeth is influenced by not only the witches, but his wife as well, the majority of his demise comes from within himself through his excessive amount of hubris. One way Shakespeare foreshadows Macbeth s ego leading him to his demise is when the witches say, Fair is foul, and foul is fair (Shakespeare 1). What Shakespeare is trying to hint to the reader is that by the end of the play, the witches will succeed in turning anything fair into foul, referring to Macbeth. Another way that Macbeth lets his ego lead to his demise is when he says, Thou marvel st at my words (Shakespeare 95). What Shakespeare is trying to show the audience when Macbeth says this to Lady Macbeth is that he now is sort of looking down at his wife and talking to her as if she is one the peasants he rules over, ultimately believing that his wife is not as powerful as him. Another way he lets his ego get the best of him is when he decides to kill Banquo and Fleance because he is worried that either Banquo and Fleance will try to forcefully take his throne out from under him. • 30. Candide Satire Essay Voltaire s satire in Candide Satire is the ridicule of a society or people in a society in order to bring about reform. Voltaire wrote Candide in order to bring about a possible reform in his society over 230 years ago. Today we use satire a little differently. But, in my personal opinion, Voltaire s satire has held up over the years and is relevant in today s society. One of Voltaire s main points of satire is that all people are the same no matter their wealth. He did this by ridiculing the Baron in his writing. He said that the Baron was the most powerful lord in Westphalia, for his castle possessed a door and windows. This is still relevant today, because comedians in our society still take stabs at rich people even though they are just like everyone else. Voltaire also uses satire to make a point that a person s rights did not always apply in his society. He used Candide to make this point. In the story Candide is a very simple minded boy and Voltaire used this to his advantage to get his point across. When he arrives, he notices that his friend and his sister are not the only ones affected by illness. It is obvious that the house is too. The illness leads to the death of the Ushers and also the destruction of the house. In The Fall of the House of Usher, Poe makes death and decay, as well as overall illness, his unity of effect. He creates this effect by using the different features of narratives. He establishes this effect through his narrator, the setting of the story, and the events that affect the characters. Laughing is so imperative because the ability to laugh easily and frequently is a tremendous resource for surmounting problems, enhancing your relationships, and supporting both physical and emotional health (Smith 1). Humor has been a huge part of my life because it has helped me out of countless awkward situations, been apart of every inside joke, made bad times good, and good times better. I find sarcasm to be humorous because it tends to confuse others. Sarcasm can sometimes be misleading. In most cases when sarcasm is used, the audience is unsure if you are actually joking or not. This typically gives you a good laugh just by looking at their facial expressions. I am also fond of sarcasm because it is an excellent ice breaker in uncomfortable situations. It allows one to get to know another person quickly. If you use sarcasm you can tell if someone has a sensitive personality or a playful one. • 40. Philosophie s World Book Taisha Pacheco 8/25/2015 AP Lit Sophie s World Summer s reading Ms. Bauman There are some unbelievable philosophies. One of the unbelievable philosophies would have to be Plotinus. According to page 133, Plotinus believed that the world is a span between two poles. At one end is the divine light which he calls the One. Sometimes he calls it God. At the other end is absolute darkness, which receives none of the light from the One. But Plotinus s point is that this darkness actually has no existence. It is simply the absence of light in other words, it is not. All that exists is God, or the One, but in the same way that a beam of light grows progressively dimmer and is gradually extinguished, there is somewhat a point that the divine glow cannot reach. Even though some scientists might disagree with this, but there is a God. There is no poles that distinguish our own hell or heaven. We are given a current life span in this Earth and if we follow His commandments and follow the Lord, we will go to Heaven. There is no such thing as the pole theory involving heaven and hell. A believable philosophy would have to be Democritus . Democritus is somewhat believable. According to page 45, Democritus is believable in some parts due to the fact that atoms are tiny unseen particles which were eternal and immutable . The part that is not ... • 41. Where The Wild Things Are By Maurice Sendak 1. Where the Wild Things Are by Maurice Sendak is an exuberant picture book which will make it a fun and exciting read. The compressed language will guide children easily throughout the book. Sendak promotes a touching message of unconditional love, a message that even if one misbehaves, there will be supper waiting on the table (Max does get sent to his room, but no matter how much he has misbehaved, his mother will always love him and cherish him). Sendak also dives into deeper psychological emotions . Max might be seen and chastised as a wild thing by his mother, his emotional actions are described as an integral part of his being, maybe not quite appropriate, but also not completely inappropriate, rather as a living, breathing part of Max s being. It is these emotions, these feelings that are the impetus to Max s adventures in the realm of the Wild Things. 2. The Very Hungry Caterpillar by Eric Carle captures young readers with its vivid and colorful collage illustrations and its deceptively hopeful story. Effects Of Sweatshops Terrible Sweatshops: The Examination of the Unethicalness Figure 1 (Lewin) FORCED TO WORK EXHAUSTING HOURS this is the label which a woman who bought a summer dress at Primark found (See figure 1). The message was a cry for help from workers and implies the harsh environment for the people in a sweatshop (Lewin). The word sweatshop was made in the end of 1800s. The definition of the sweatshop is broad but it describes any workplace where people are forced poor conditions and long hours of works with low wages (Annabelle). The US Department of Labor defined a sweatshop as a factory which violates two or more labor laws (DoSomething.org). People in developed countries tend to enjoy buying cheaper products and do not care about the reality of the process they have made. In fact, many women and children are forced to work in sweatshops in developing countries. Some corporations such as NIKE, GAP and Wal Mart have already revealed those facts but the problem has not been solved yet (Bakan). Actually, those are just few of the companies involved in sweatshop labor. By using sweatshops, many corporations reduce their production costs. And millions of people still live with what they get from sweatshops (Solution). Some people say the sweatshop is ethical because it provides better jobs than the average jobs in those ... And even if people think the conditions of sweatshop labor are unfair and unethical, relative to their other alternatives, sweatshop labor is a very attractive option for workers in the developing world. Some insist that workers would only choose a job in a sweatshop when that job is better for them than any of their other alternatives (Learn ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 45. Psychodynamic Personality Profile of Johnny Depp Essay Personality, like most core Psychology subjects, is difficult to define. Personality is essentially the science of describing and understanding people. No two people are the same; even identical twins will tell you that they are very different to their identical counterpart. There are some who are anxious and there are those who are risk takers. There are some who are carefree while there are those who are highly strung and there are those who are over confident while some are just plain shy. It is this issue of differences that are fundamental to the study and examination of personality. Johnny Depp, born June 9th, 1963 in Owensboro, Kentucky self proclaimed barbeque capital of the world has led an interesting life filled with ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Research also shows indicates that the Big Five has distinct biological substrates thereby linking trait perspective with the biological perspective (DeYoung, Quilty Peterson, 2007). However this convergence of perspectives is actually productive in that all perspectives by themselves have their disadvantages as well as their advantages. If all perspectives can coincide with one another, explanations of personality will become so much easier. The psychoanalytic perspective is the most interesting theory of the analysis of an individual and their personality. Initially developed by Freud during the latter half of the 1900s, it deals with, among other things, the irrational and less predictable patterns of behaviour and human thinking, which is what most other theories of personality often leave out and are criticised for it. In understanding Johnny Depp, a psychodynamic perspective best accounts for his personality: as a complete theory, it can explain his behaviour from when he was a child to becoming a famous movie star, integrates other theories into its analysis, such as Evolutionary and Learning perspectives, thus providing a fairly reliable and accurate interpretation of his personality. As a kid, Johnny Depp had a troublesome childhood. His father was continually searching for secure work in order to support his family, resulting in them moving around a lot, living in motels, shifting from place to place. This no doubt took a ... • 46. The Central Powers of World War I World War I took place between 1914 and 1918. It was a fight between the Central Powers and the Allies. The Allies included America, Britain, France, and Russia. The Central Powers were Germany, Austria Hungary, and the Ottoman Empire, which is now considered Turkey. The United States was involved in the war for a short period of time; it entered the war very late. There was a deadlock between the Allies and Central Powers, but Germany knew that they were going to lose the war because of the United States entering; they wanted to seek an armistice. The Allied Powers ended up winning, and forced Germany to agree to the harsh terms in the armistice they had written up. The United States faced many challenges and trouble in its own country after the war. Towards the end of the war, troop movements contributed to a worldwide influenza epidemic. The disease took more than 500,000 lives alone in the United States alone in 1918 and 1919. The epidemic even killed a larger amount of people worldwide than the amount of people that had died in the war. The epidemic arose in two stages. The first phase, identified as the three day fever, appeared without warning in the late spring of 1918. Few deaths were reported. Victims recovered after a few days. When the disease surfaced again that fall, it was far more severe. Scientists, doctors, and health officials could not pinpoint this plague which was striking so viciously and fast, evading treatment and resisting control. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The national bourgeoisie identifies itself with the western bourgeoisie because it learned denial and corruption from the western bourgeoisie. Big farmers demanded a type of nationalization of agricultural production after independence was proclaimed which allowed the big farms to absorb farms previously owned by settlers but weaknesses of this new nationalization was that it did not introduce new farming practices or farmed more intensely. The farmers were also able to legitimize exploitation practices of their workers and had no plans for further progress. A weakness of nations during colonialism is religion that split people up into different spiritual communities and this religious strain could be responsible for racist practices and sentiments. Africa was divided into a White (civilisation and tradition) and Black Africa (brutal and uncivilized) by the national bourgeoisie that had taken over from the Europeans and they created a racial viewpoint.
