Medea Is Not A Bad Mother Essay
Society establishes a set of expectations by which males and females are expected to conduct
themselves. For example, a mother is expected to nurture her child, stay at home to take care of her
children, be patient, be kind, love unconditionally and to never get angry. If a mother does not live up
to these expectations established by society, then that mother is deemed a bad mother. Since a mother
gives birth to her children and nurtures them, a mother who kills her children is considered to be
unredeemably bad. Medea, in the play of the same name, kills her two sons and by societal standards,
she would be deemed a bad mother. Contrary to society s expectations of mothers, I will argue that
Medea is not a bad mother. I will do this by proving that: Medea defies the social conventions of
motherhood in three ways; she kills her children in order to protect them; and, that she rebels against
her husband s control and male domination by depriving him of his immortality by killing his sons and
ending his bloodline.
There are three ways in which Medea defies the social conventions of motherhood. Firstly, she does
this by not being a stay at home mother. Secondly, she demonstrates that she can be powerful as a
woman. Thirdly, she is unkind and gets angry. I will elaborate on each of these ways in the paragraphs
that follow.
The first way in which Medea challenges the social conventions of motherhood is by defying its
conventions. One of the attributes of a social definition

Theme Of Sensory Evidence In The Duchess Of Malfi
The Duchess of Malfi by John Webster is a tragic play, which deals with love, power, and madness.
The madness derives from the use of sensory evidence. In many cases, Webster uses sensory evidence
to push his characters to the limit of their own mind. The concept of sensory experience is a way to
grab your readers attention while using the five senses to do so. Webster employs this concept in ways
that progress the plot. However, it causes much trouble for most of the characters, especially The
Duchess herself. Although there could be many factors that affect the death of the Duchess, the use of
the sensory experience is the most evident. We can easily observe this by her marriage to Antonio, her
relationship with Bosola, and her problems with Ferdinand. To begin, a crucial conversation shapes
the course of the play in a subtle but immense way. In Act 1, scene 3, The Cardinal and Ferdinand
insist that The Duchess does not remarry after the death of her husband. However, they are not aware
that the Duchess is planning on marrying Antonio, her old steward. The following citation shows
Ferdinand s thought of those who remarry. Marry! They are most luxurious/will wed twice. (John
Webster, Act 1, scene 3, line 6 7) His comment uses the word Luxurious which means lecherous.
Ferdinand is saying that widows that remarry are driven by an excessive desire for sexual relations
and nothing more. After both brothers have spoken of their thoughts on the matter, The Duchess
assures

The National Hot Rod Association (Nhra)
The National Hot Rod Association (NHRA) has many rules regarding safety and well being of the cars
and drivers, but they still have crashes!!! All of the crashes seem like they could have been prevented
had more thorough inspections been done. There have been well over 520* deadly crashes in drag
racing history and many on safe tracks. With this many crashes you would think that safety is a low
priority but that is not entirely true. The death of motor racing legend Dale Earnhardt** in 2001 was a
wake up call that even the best are not invincible. The racing industry got to work improving the
safety standards and safety gear including the new generation 5 cars introduced in 2007. Many people
thought that new safety techniques would carry

Chronic Pain Informative Essay
Millions of people suffer with chronic pain; making it the top reason people go see the doctor. With a
price tag of at least $635 billion a year, that s more than cancer, heart disease and diabetes combined.
While powerful painkillers help many folks cope, many people don t want to have to rely on a bottle
of pills for the rest of their life.
Dr. Fatima Salas, with the Grace Health System Pain Management Center, says many patients are
concerned about dependency or addiction. People say I want to feel like myself again and clear
headed. They want to try everything else before resorting to drugs. Dr. Salas will work with you to
develop the best line of treatment for your chronic pain with and without drugs.
One popular pain therapy is nerve blocks. There are several different kinds that your doctor ... Show

They include chiropractic manipulation, massage and physical therapy. Many patients who tried spinal
injections found them to be very helpful, although the techniques their doctors used varied. One of the
top treatments, though, is plain old exercise. While many people with chronic pain are scared to move,
experts say exercise could be considered as close to a magic bullet than anything else.
When pain patients get a move on, they are often pleasantly surprised at how well they feel. In fact, a
recent survey of more than 14,000 people, Consumer Reports found the best pain reliever was
exercise. Dr. Salas adds exercise and losing weight benefits your overall health, as well as pain.
Doctors say spinal cord stimulation is also very effective for most chronic pain, if appropriate. It
involves electrical stimulation of the spinal cord to interrupt pain signals from the spinal cord to the
brain, and to trade a painful sensation with a more pleasant tingling sensation. Unlike other remedies,
stimulation can be tried on a temporary

Pycnopodia s Nervous System
Despite its apparent lack of a central coordinating nervous system (no brain), Pycnopodia has a
repertoire of sensory systems to locate and capture its prey. Its simple nervous system takes the form
of a central ring, with radial nerves extending into each of its rays. Each ray is covered with thousands
of tiny tubed feet that provide tactile information such as touch, temperature and body position. At the
end of each ray are specialized tube feet filled with sensory cells that detect chemical cues and trigger
sensations of taste and smell. Light sensory organs (red spots or eye spots) at the tip of each ray detect
light and dark (direction, presence of large objects).
Sea cucumbers and pearl fish have a commensal symbiotic relationship in

The Power Of Poetry In Terence This Is Stupid Stuff By A....
The Power of Poetry Terence This is Stupid Stuff, by A.E. Housman compelling work of poetry that
addresses mainly the theme of the power of poetry and why we should read poetry. Many sections in
this poem portray this theme, but one line that shows it best is the section in which Terence, the person
whose perspective the poem is being told through, explains that you need to read little bit of poetry so
you will be prepared when hard times come to you. Another section that portrays this theme of the
power of poetry and why we should read poetry is the section in which Housman is talking about the
fact that, when you get drunk, the world seems great and you are happy, but the happiness is
temporary, but poetry helps you permanently. A third section that portrays this theme of the power of
poetry and why we should read poetry is the section in which Terence is talking about King
Mithridates, and that he built up an immunity to the world s poisons by eating little bits of the poison
so when others tried to assassinate him, he was immune. Terence suggests that poetry can be like little
bits of poison, so when the bad times come, you will be ready. Terence This is Stupid Stuff, by A.E.
Housman is about the theme of the power of poetry and why we should read poetry. One section that
portrays the theme of the power of poetry and why we should read poetry is the section in which
Terence explains that you need to read little bit of poetry so you will be prepared when hard times
come to you. Terence s friends ask him to read a poem, but when he reads a very sad poem, they point
out that he is fine, so he shouldn t read poetry. Terence responds by telling them that even if you aren t
sad, you should still read poetry because it will prepare you for times when you are sad or are in bad
times because you will be able to see what struggles people have been through and can relate to them.
This is shown in the quote, . This section shows that Housman thinks that people should read poetry
even when they are not sad because it feels like you have that you can relate to. He also says that it
helps when you can experience what someone else has experienced because you don t feel lonely
when you are sad. A few other sections

The After Math Of A Raised Hand . What Is The Harm Of A
The After Math of a Raised Hand What is the harm of a little physical reinforcement to ensure
children know how to properly act in society? This idea of physical reinforcement is also known as
corporal punishment and is still present today in southern American states including some Texas
school systems. Corporal Punishment is defined as a punishment of a physical nature, such as caning,
flogging, or beating however this fails to include the psychological implications of corporal
punishment in schools (corporal punishment). The benefits of corporal punishment in the short run are
outweighed by the negative effects the punishment produces evident by the Social learning theory, anti
social behavior results, and development beyond the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The conditions to model this violent behavior includes attention, retention, reproduction, and
motivation which can be interpreted as the attention to the fact that violence is an adult s response
causes a child to model the behavior of the adults around them resulting in more violence (Bandura).
Subconsciously most adults tend to believe that the easiest way to deal with a disobedient child or
person is to physically harm. This answer of violence more times than not stems from the anger a
student caused in doing wrong. Justification for corporal punishment originates from the past and is
often the defense of pro corporal punishment advocates. Physical punishment can be traced back to
ancient times exemplified in Egypt, concerning the slaves that built the pyramids, these deep roots of
physical punishment are often referred to as a form of proof that it works. To use Egyptian violence as
an example is pushing the envelope of what corporal punishment is today, however the reaction to that
punishment is similar because human nature is present in both time periods. Punishment in and of
itself is not inheritably detrimental to a person s development, however in the case of school corporal
punishment the extra violent input into a child can produce unintended violence later in life.

The Day Of My Meditation Practice
It is now the 8th day of my meditation practice. I can t believe how far I have come since the first day.
I was already addicted to the feeling and idea of meditation. I was surprised at how clear my mind was
today before I began my mantra recitation. As always, I felt the tension in my body fade away as I got
into my meditative practice. At the end of today s session I felt really good!
I sat on my bed and got comfortable before beginning my meditative practice today. I started off with
concentrating on my breathing before reciting my mantra. I felt my body relax. I was surprise at the
feeling of ease and relation mediation was providing to me. I feel very good about this practice.
Today I decided to do something a little different. Instead of repeating my mantra in my head using
my own voice, I decided to listen to an audio playing of the mantra. I sat on my bed and got
comfortable before putting on my ear buds on and playing the mantra. It felt different listening to
someone else s voice, however I did enjoy it. I found myself more easily being able to concentrate on
the mantra, without having to think about the words. I felt my body relax and I enjoyed the sensation
that was running through my bones.
Once again, I choose to opt to listen to the audio playing of my mantra. I sat down and concentrated
on my breathing before hitting play. I enjoyed listening to someone else s voice, it was oddly very
calming. At the end of my session, I felt very joyful. I hoped to

In order to further their control of the EV market, we have developed a strategy to produce an entry
level, luxury electronic vehicle that maintains Tesla s core values which allows them to compete on a
broader scale with electronic vehicles and hybrids. After taking everything into consideration, we
believe that our strategy will allow Tesla to gain market share, gain brand awareness, generate brand
loyalty and earn profits through our new programs. We have developed the following plan for Tesla:
We will develop a brand new, entry level luxury sedan that is fully electric and named the Gen3. It
will still have the core components to a Tesla vehicle, but created with a budget in mind to grow the
potential target market. This will allow more customers to get their hands on a fully electric vehicle at
an affordable price, while still being able to grow the Tesla brand. We have also introduced a variety
of programs in order to improve brand loyalty as well as giving more options for purchase, including
Amplify Your Ride and the Test Drive America campaigns. We will also launch an integrated marking
campaign with advertisements in magazines and though web sources. The first car will ship in early
2015 and will be issued to those who reserved the vehicle in the second half of 2014. We will host the
Test Drive America campaign in the second half of the year after the car has been fully announced.
This will give potential drivers the chance to

The Indian Act Of 1876 And The Amendment Of 1985
Since the beginning of colonization, indigenous people of Canada have been repressed in many ways
by the Westerners. Aboriginal women have been having a really hard time, being not only aboriginal,
but also women in a male dominated society where women are seen as secondary and don t have all
the rights and privileges that men have. We will focus here on the legal discrimination against
indigenous women in Canada that came with the Indian Act of 1876 and the amendment of 1985, how
those two events influenced women. We will first study why indigenous women have been more
discriminated than indigenous men, then how the Indian Act reinforced this inequity. Then we will see
how the 1985 amendment came to be, a century later and what are the consequences of legal
discrimination for indigenous women in Canada. We will conclude that, in a context of discrimination
against natives with colonization, the Indian Act made legal injustices in detriment of indigenous
women, and that after years of favouritism against them they finally gained a bit of justice through the
amendment of 1985.
First of all, it s important to understand the context in which the Indian Act is taking place in terms of
equity for aboriginal women. With the colonization from the British and the French in Canada came
rapes, violence against indigenous population, especially women that were seen as weaker and easier
prey . After the colonizing period, violence against aboriginal women came not only from the

something. Well what I hold dear to me is just two pieces of paper. Yup, just paper. I know what you re
thinking how can paper mean so much to me. Well it isn t the paper itself that makes it so special it s
what s on it. Those pieces of paper contain words and a drawing that my father did for me when he
was in jail. He still is in fact in jail so that s why it means so much. Me and my father are rather close
so when I heard that he was in jail it hurt. So when the letter got in the mail you bet I got excited. I
didn t exactly know how to read it when I first opened it. I know how can i not be able to read it, well
the reason for that is because it was in Spanish and I don t really know how to read it. So instead I got
my mom to read it to me. He wrote about how he was doing and how it was being in there. I really
liked reading it because it let me know he was doing okay. Now the letter itself was written on a blank

An Exploration of Gothic Horror Stories Essay
An Exploration of Gothic Horror Stories Gothic horror is a type of romantic, horror fiction based on
irrational fear that predominated in 18th century England. The term gothic originated from the
architectural style of the middle ages, but came to describe the dark, terrifying tales that achieved such
popularity. Gothic horror can be determined by many things which exist in all gothic horror stories,
for example eerie settings such as gothic monasteries, bleak comfortless castles, grave yards and
cobwebbed rooms lit by guttering candles. It can also be determined by a unique character such as a
beast, monster, ghost, evil creature and innocent person. Usually the innocent person is killed ... Show

All three stories were written in the 19th century. They were all set at the same time when they were
written. This is a good effect because at the time when they were written, horror stories containing
superstition and the macabre were popular because the people at that time believed in witchcraft,
ghosts and demons. The location of the action is of great importance in the gothic novel because it
creates an atmosphere and feeling to the story. The Judges House is located in the dining room of an
old, quiet and isolated house. An old, rambling, heavy built house, this creates a scary atmosphere thus
matching the typical setting of a gothic horror story. It goes on to describe the dining room as a, room
in darkness, this also creates a scary and terrifying atmosphere because you cant see in the dark and
you don t know what s in the dark, this also is an essential gothic horror element because darkness
creates a creepy and scary atmosphere. The Tell Tale Heart is located in a house that is probably old as
a lantern is used by the narrator, this creates a scary atmosphere like the Judges House because you
cant see in the dark and you don t know what is in the darkness so the reader imagines things that
create the scary atmosphere,

Virgin Blue Overview
Virgin Blue began operations in Australia on 31st August, 2000. Virgin Blue launched itself as the first
sustainable low fare airline in Australia against a strong duopoly in place at the time, Qantas and
Ansett (Virgin Blue Airlines, 2008a).
The airline took strong influences from the well known Virgin brand in innovation and customer
enjoyment and fun, but has also now established a reputation for brilliant customer service, value for
money and excellent on time performance. Virgin Blue has launched subsidiary joint venture
international airlines, Pacific Blue (Aust and NZ) and Polynesian Blue, and is starting a third this year,
V Australia. Virgin is now Australia s second largest airline, holding more than 31% of the domestic
market (IBISWorld, 2008; Peanuts! Online, 2008).

Beauty Is An Integral Part Of Human Nature
The concept of beauty is an integral part of human nature. For centuries men and women have
designated a part of each day dedicating their time to their physical appearance. In many cultures
beauty is made a priority of life. This is reflective of the expectations the media places on men and
women to have a certain look. What most do not realize is beauty is not just defined by the aesthetic
pleasure of faces, hair, bodies, and clothes, it is driven by many other factors. The concept of beauty
does not have to be tied down to the strict definition of what is visually attractive, and should rather
focus on many different aspects of the person as a whole to create a definition of their beauty. There
are many factors that contribute to what makes something or in the case of this research, someone
beautiful . The explanation for the perception of beauty in one s self and in others is due in part to a
biological, a psychological, and a cultural basis working hand in hand to create what humans believe
to be beauty. Perception of beauty is manipulated greatly by the biological evolutionary influences on
human nature. All of this stems from the deeply rooted evolutionary need to reproduce. In particular,
facial beauty of a female or a male is important because the one weapon men and women have to
fulfill the ultimate goal of preserving their genes in another generation is attraction. One must be
perceived as beautiful first before any sexual attraction can occur (Wilson, 2013).

The class I was able to observe was one of these middle range math classes. The dynamics within the
class varied from a couple students who excel in math to struggling math learners. A few of the
students in this class also attend the math lab while others receive special education services. Mrs.

Idealism And Tlon, Uqbar, Orbis Tertius
Berkeleyan Idealism and Tlön, Uqbar, Orbis Tertius
Jorge Luis Borges short work of fiction titled Tlön, Uqbar, Orbis Tertius grapples with many
philosophic issues. In the main, this short story deals with the philosophic notion of subjective
idealism as posed by George Berkeley s Treatise Concerning Principles of Human Knowledge. Within
this essay I argue that, while he acknowledges the presumed irrefutability of Berkeley s argument,
Borges Tlön, Uqbar, Orbis Tertius aims to disparage both totalitarianism and Berkeleyan idealism by
drawing an analogy between the two via his literary creation of the fictitious world of Tlön.
The notion of subjective idealism, within western philosophy, is credited to the 18th century
philosopher George Berkeley. In his most notable work regarding this system of metaphysics, a
Treatise Concerning Principles of Human Knowledge, Berkeley holds that nothing exists outside of
the immaterial ideas within minds. Esse est percipi or to be is to be perceived (Berkeley,11). Berkley s
form of subjective idealism is able to avoid the problem of solipsism by his holding that the totality of
perceived ideas reside in the mind of God. This monistic system of metaphysics runs contra to the
earlier works of Locke and Descartes whose relative theories assumed a dualist stance concerning
metaphysics. The philosophic relevance of subjective idealism is conveyed by Borges in Tlön, Uqbar,
Orbis Tertius, when he cites David Hume who held that

Describe The Process Of Impeachment
When a new president is elected, they must take an oath that contains many large responsibilities. If
the president fails to maintain these responsibilities or abuses his powers, the constitution provides the
House of Representatives with the right to impeach the president. Article one of the United States
Constitution gives them this power. This also gives the Senate the power to try impeachments. State
constitutions contain similar things that allow the state legislature to impeach state officials who are
not doing a good job. The process of impeachment is long and hard, for a president to be impeached,
they have to violate certain things, and there have only been two U.S. presidents impeached.
Impeachment begins in the House of Representatives. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Persuasive Essay On Voting In America
Brooke Lowery
Mr. Bare
January 17, 2017
AP Gov.
Voting in America According to past studies done, only roughly 55% of registered voters actually
vote. the other 45% may have just not wanted to vote, or they may have not been able to for multiple
reasons. Ever since America was founded, there have always opticals put up intentionally to restrict
voting without clearly stating that they are restricting voting. If America claims that we are a
democracy , which according to the dictionary is a system of government by the whole population or
all the eligible members of a state, typically through elected representatives , then America should
make it easier to vote so all citizens can be included in the choices of our country. Ways to make this
possible is by fixing the voter ID laws, create automatic registration, and change the voting date.
Restrictive voting laws have been around since ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The first major law passed to restrict voting was created in 1889. This is the year that the country
passed to make a poll tax. This meant that anyone who wanted to vote had to pay a tax when they
went to vote. This was mostly to keep black people from voting, as well as the poor white people.
Thankfully people realized that this was not right, and it was abolished in 1964 under the court case of
Harper v. Virginia Board of Elections. The most recent restrictive voting law is Voter ID Laws. These
are put into place by individual states, starting as far back as 1977 in the states of Georgia and Florida.
These laws state that in order for a person to vote, they must show proof of Identity such as a driver s
license, a gun/ hunters license, a birth certificate, social security card, etc. This is to prevent voting
fraud, which according to the Washington Post, only happened four times in the past election. These
laws were put up to restrict those who cannot afford any sort of

Gifts in The Princess and The Tin Box by James Thurber Essay
When I am at King s Buffet, I always wonder what the interesting sushi tastes like, but I always eat
the sweat and sour chicken instead because I don t know what the sushi tastes like. I always wonder
what would happen if I used the shampoo that Heidi Klum advertises but it might make my hair too
oily or too dry. So I continue to use the same brand of shampoo for my hair. How can you pass a test if
you don t study before? How can you play in a symphony if you have never learned to play an
instrument? How can we expect a shallow and spoiled princess who was raised with money to choose
priceless objects over riches? As you grew up, who did you look up to the most? Who had the most

She was raised with wealth, and she was looking for how much money they had instead of how much
personality they had.
I believed that the princess would select the tin box because it tells me that she examined [the] [box]
with great interest and squealed with delight and by telling us that the princess was curious when she
saw the mica, feldspar, and hornblende in the box. And right when I all thought she is going to choose
to marry the poor prince with the big heart, Thurber leaves me disappointed when the princess chooses
the third prince and the platinum box because she will have lots of admirers when she s married who
will fill the box with precious gems.
This is not the fairy tale ending that I expected. I want the selfless princess who will find emotional
value in the box and fall in love with the prince who doesn t have a penny to his name. I want the
happily ever after for the prince who was mocked for giving the princess a worthless gift. Instead, she
ends up with a not so handsome prince.
After reading the story, I can infer that the princess represents everybody in society: the rich, the poor
and everyone in between. The princess knew why she chose the platinum box over the other expensive
gifts: because the box can hold more valuable objects, making it worth more, and thus giving her the
only life she s ever known. The tin box has more sentimental meaning than any of the other gifts, but
it is worth much less. It

Into Battle by Julian Grenfell and Counter Atak by...
Into Battle by Julian Grenfell and Counter Attack by Siegfried Sassoon are two poems with different
ways of looking at going into battle. Into Battle shows a positive outlook on going to war and is what
the young courageous men who signed up for the army would have felt. Grenfell uses soft kind wars
even when describing the most horrific moments of war. On the other hand, Counter Attack unlike
Into Battle is a negative outlook to the war. From the beginning of it there is no hope, the soldiers
appear to be helpless. Sassoon uses very descriptive negative words, he describes with detail the cruel
reality of war. The poem Into Battle was written before the war, making the audience soon to be

Continuing his positive outlook on war Grenfell describes what he thinks it means to die in battle and
Sassoon gives his version. He describes the experience of battle with, joy of battle, a very honorable
thing to say. It is a way most people do not look at dying in war as but to look at it that way is a
respectively masculine attitude. With what he continues to say it resembles the attitude of Lieutenant
Dan in the movie Forest Gump, instead of praising Forest for saving his life he becomes angry and
bitter towards him. Lieutenant Dan says something on how his father and his grandfather had all died
in war and it was his destiny. That point is brought up to show how Grenfell describes dying in war as
the most honorable and glorifying moment in a soldiers life. Quite the opposite in Counter Attack
when this soldier dies he is left alone, none heeded him, he then becomes lost. Instead of finding
glory, this soldier is drowned, in his own blood, one of the most painful ways to die. Reading these
two poems gives two completely different views of the same thing. Going into battle is one of the
most traumatic events on a mans life whether it is positive or negative. Sassoon emphasizes the
brutality and horrid of the events taking place in the battle. The words he selectively uses describe the

Bikini Bottom Marxist Theory
Marx s Bikini Bottom When a child is watching the television show SpongeBob SquarePants, it is
often viewed as an innocent, comical, cartoon about a Sponge and his day to day activities. But later in
life, after learning about Marx s Theory, one can explain the correlation between the two polar
opposites. Marx s Theory is the political and economic philosophy of Karl Marx and Friedrich Engels
in which the concept of class struggle plays a central role in understanding society s allegedly
inevitable development from bourgeois oppression under capitalism to a socialist and ultimately
classless society ( Marxism ). The entire town of Bikini Bottom is exactly how a Marxist City would
be set up, with each level of the social structure demonstrated with different characters in different
classes; poor, middle, and upper.
The lowest class in the today s social structure would be considered the poor, which is often viewed as
lazy, education lacking people who are not willing work in order to move up through the social
structure. Patrick, one of the main characters in SpongeBob SquarePants, presents these views to be
true while he is participating in his role in Bikini Bottom. He has no source of income, does not attend
school, has little belongings and lives under a rock. In episode 13 of season 9 he refers to his
unemployment as funemployment when he tries to convince SpongeBob that he does not need to work
(Hillenburg). Another character displayed is Plankton. He is also

The Right to Die with Dignity and without Pain
Dr. Jack Kevorkian was charged with second degree murder and served an eight year prison sentence.
(Fridstein. 1). This accomplished physician graduated from the University of Michigan with an
impressively high IQ. He was a writer, inventor, movie producer and classical composer. (Kevorkian).
Why would a man so intelligent and successful end up in jail for murder? Well believe or not he
purposely challenged the legal system in a one man crusade to ignite a national discussion on the
subjects of assisted suicide, Euthanasia and one s constitutional right to choose. Euthanasia is a
medical procedure that involves a person being induced with a soothing, relaxing medicine that allows
them a peaceful passing. Dr. Kevorkian s attorney, Geoffrey Fieger, summed it up best when he said,
We re just talking about the right not of children and not of mentally incompetent people but the right
of mentally competent adults to make decisions about their own bodies as to how much suffering they
have to undergo. (Kevorkian). Euthanasia is not for people experiencing temporary illness or
unhappiness. It s for people who are imprisoned by their own unbearable physical pain for the rest of
their lives with no way out. Is it fair to not give those people a choice? Is it fair to make them slowly
deteriorate while losing their dignity? I think not. That is why I support euthanasia being legalized,
Dying is not a crime. (Fridstein. 1).
It s understandable that some of us are bound by religious

Few wars in recent years have been able to compare with the sheer death, destruction, and contention;
as Syria still remains embroiled in a half decade long war in a conflict that gradually begins to affect
the lives of virtually everyone in terms of their beliefs and perception of the world. Upon it s initial
outbreak in March of 2011. The discontent amongst the Syrian populace has festered over the years
due to the abhorrent and distant attitudes of the Assad regime and it seemed a ripe opportunity to
revolt against their oppressive and authoritarian government as the Arab Spring gained massive

The kidnapping of the children sparked massive outcries and protests in Syria the were soon quashed
with the use of armed force as Assad sent armor and heavy weapons to suppress the uprising. It was a
situation where a spokesperson for Syrian Opposition, Ausama Monajed, claims it be the moment
where Those who believed in President Al assad lost all faith when the first bullet was fired at a
civilian in a street in Syria . The logic behind the regime s undiplomatic response to the protests is
traced back to previous protests such as that in the late 70 s and early 80 s where the Iranian
Revolution inspired Syrians to rally against the regime s tyrannical behavior. The Syrian regime
responded to these protests by leveling entire cities through the use of artillery, killing an estimated
10,000 to 30,0000 people. In 2011, the regime figured it could achieve the same success as before by
using extreme force to suppress notions of rebellion and as we all know that spiraled the protests into
a civil war.
What followed soon after the outbreak of war was a conflict that has been responsible directly and
indirectly of the deaths of over 400,000 thousand people according to Frontline and much more
wounded and displaced. The casualties of the war are accounted to military personnel and civilians

Candide by Voltaire
Candide Paper Many critics argue that Candide is not an enlightened work, but Voltaire s satire
thoroughly reflects on the philosophical morals and lessons of the Enlightenment. Voltaire s satire
comments on the political, social, and religious views of the time, emphasizing the beliefs of a
majority of enlightenment thinkers and philosophers. Voltaire demonstrates three different
enlightenment thoughts or views in his work: anti feudalism, optimism, and the hypocrisy of the
Christian church. Perhaps the most common and well known characteristic of the Enlightenment was
anti feudalism. Philosophers during the Enlightenment advocated against the separation of the nobility
from the other social classes and tried to obtain equality among all human beings. In Candide Voltaire
writes about the outlandish actions of the nobility throughout. For instance, Voltaire describes the
character Baron Thunder ten tronckh and his castle as extravagant, even though Westphalia is a
homely and mundane estate. Although both the character and his palace seem important, Baron
Thunder ten tronckh lacks the nobility to maintain rule over his people. The Baron simply forces the
lower classes to complete hard labor and justifies this action by stating that his birth is the right of
power. Following this, the Baron s sister refuses to marry Candide s father because he is poor and will
not represent Westphalia properly. Although they have similar lineage, the Baroness refuses to marry a
man who

Mass Migration to America During the 19th Century
This essay will address the reasons as to why there was mass migration to the United States of
America during the nineteenth century. As for this topic, the reasons for the mass migration was due to
industrialisation and employment and living standards, and thus many migrants traveled to America
with the hope of a better life. By saying that the reasons for the mass migration are primarily due to
industrialisation and employment and living standards, it is important to emphasize that the migrants
destination of America was better than remaining in their origin country. With all of this considered,
this essay will examine the roles of industrialisation and employment and living standard in the
decision to migrate to the United Sates of America during the nineteenth century. The potential reach
of this essay needs to be specified at the outset by identifying the migrants, whom traveled to America.
In the nineteenth century, the type of migrants can be broken into two periods, the early part of the
century, and the later half of the century. In the first half of the century, the migrants were primarily
farmers and artisans from rural areas, who traveled with family, and intended to acquire land and settle
permanently, whereas, in contrast, the migrants from the later half of the century were drawn from
urban areas with nonagricultural occupations, yet, in comparison, all the migrants were typically
unskilled and young, whom had limited schooling and training (Hatton,

Lao Tzu And Machiavelli Analysis
There are many indescribable qualities that make a leader. However, a leader can be interpreted
differently. A leader must ensure the safety of his subjects, however, there are different ways in which
to do so. The absence of admirable leadership leads to chaos and social unrest. Within Lao Tzu s
Thoughts from the Tao Te Ching and Machiavelli s The Prince, there are similar ideas surrounding the
definition of a leader. They ultimately explore their idea of what an optimal government would be
like; more specifically, what an ideal leader is and how they can maintain social tranquility. Even
though both authors contemplate what a leader is, both of their opinions differ, and it is most

Without peace, we cannot be content or satisfied. By using a hypothetical of the Master, a figure who
is all knowing, it shows the audience how government should be. The Master is all knowing, he
knows right from wrong. By doing this the audience is more attuned to hearing Lao Tzu s points. If
the Master is really virtuous as he is described we would expect him to be omniscient. Man is an
enigma. Man is something vast, complicated, that philosophers have been trying to figure for
centuries. Different minds have different perceptions. Lao Tzu, for instance, believed that government
should trust its people, and not micromanage. He believed people are naturally good, but oppressing
them brings out the worst in them. Rulers have to be humble and take care of their people, focusing on
matters that are important to their people, not getting caught up in the affairs of other countries. If you
don t trust the people/ you make them untrustworthy, (Lao Tzu 58). This statement illustrates how a
government is always on edge believing its citizens are going to do something, then they are. If one
were to label someone as insane, then that person could not escape from the idea that they are insane.
If a government were to control their citizens because they do not trust their citizens then they create a
vast majority of laws, all citizens are forced to obey. Their sense of virtue is taken away,

  • 2. Medea Is Not A Bad Mother Essay Society establishes a set of expectations by which males and females are expected to conduct themselves. For example, a mother is expected to nurture her child, stay at home to take care of her children, be patient, be kind, love unconditionally and to never get angry. If a mother does not live up to these expectations established by society, then that mother is deemed a bad mother. Since a mother gives birth to her children and nurtures them, a mother who kills her children is considered to be unredeemably bad. Medea, in the play of the same name, kills her two sons and by societal standards, she would be deemed a bad mother. Contrary to society s expectations of mothers, I will argue that Medea is not a bad mother. I will do this by proving that: Medea defies the social conventions of motherhood in three ways; she kills her children in order to protect them; and, that she rebels against her husband s control and male domination by depriving him of his immortality by killing his sons and ending his bloodline. There are three ways in which Medea defies the social conventions of motherhood. Firstly, she does this by not being a stay at home mother. Secondly, she demonstrates that she can be powerful as a woman. Thirdly, she is unkind and gets angry. I will elaborate on each of these ways in the paragraphs that follow. The first way in which Medea challenges the social conventions of motherhood is by defying its conventions. One of the attributes of a social definition ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Theme Of Sensory Evidence In The Duchess Of Malfi The Duchess of Malfi by John Webster is a tragic play, which deals with love, power, and madness. The madness derives from the use of sensory evidence. In many cases, Webster uses sensory evidence to push his characters to the limit of their own mind. The concept of sensory experience is a way to grab your readers attention while using the five senses to do so. Webster employs this concept in ways that progress the plot. However, it causes much trouble for most of the characters, especially The Duchess herself. Although there could be many factors that affect the death of the Duchess, the use of the sensory experience is the most evident. We can easily observe this by her marriage to Antonio, her relationship with Bosola, and her problems with Ferdinand. To begin, a crucial conversation shapes the course of the play in a subtle but immense way. In Act 1, scene 3, The Cardinal and Ferdinand insist that The Duchess does not remarry after the death of her husband. However, they are not aware that the Duchess is planning on marrying Antonio, her old steward. The following citation shows Ferdinand s thought of those who remarry. Marry! They are most luxurious/will wed twice. (John Webster, Act 1, scene 3, line 6 7) His comment uses the word Luxurious which means lecherous. Ferdinand is saying that widows that remarry are driven by an excessive desire for sexual relations and nothing more. After both brothers have spoken of their thoughts on the matter, The Duchess assures ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. The National Hot Rod Association (Nhra) The National Hot Rod Association (NHRA) has many rules regarding safety and well being of the cars and drivers, but they still have crashes!!! All of the crashes seem like they could have been prevented had more thorough inspections been done. There have been well over 520* deadly crashes in drag racing history and many on safe tracks. With this many crashes you would think that safety is a low priority but that is not entirely true. The death of motor racing legend Dale Earnhardt** in 2001 was a wake up call that even the best are not invincible. The racing industry got to work improving the safety standards and safety gear including the new generation 5 cars introduced in 2007. Many people thought that new safety techniques would carry ... • 5. Chronic Pain Informative Essay Millions of people suffer with chronic pain; making it the top reason people go see the doctor. With a price tag of at least $635 billion a year, that s more than cancer, heart disease and diabetes combined. While powerful painkillers help many folks cope, many people don t want to have to rely on a bottle of pills for the rest of their life. Dr. Fatima Salas, with the Grace Health System Pain Management Center, says many patients are concerned about dependency or addiction. People say I want to feel like myself again and clear headed. They want to try everything else before resorting to drugs. Dr. Salas will work with you to develop the best line of treatment for your chronic pain with and without drugs. One popular pain therapy is nerve blocks. There are several different kinds that your doctor ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... They include chiropractic manipulation, massage and physical therapy. Many patients who tried spinal injections found them to be very helpful, although the techniques their doctors used varied. One of the top treatments, though, is plain old exercise. While many people with chronic pain are scared to move, experts say exercise could be considered as close to a magic bullet than anything else. When pain patients get a move on, they are often pleasantly surprised at how well they feel. In fact, a recent survey of more than 14,000 people, Consumer Reports found the best pain reliever was exercise. Dr. Salas adds exercise and losing weight benefits your overall health, as well as pain. Doctors say spinal cord stimulation is also very effective for most chronic pain, if appropriate. It involves electrical stimulation of the spinal cord to interrupt pain signals from the spinal cord to the brain, and to trade a painful sensation with a more pleasant tingling sensation. Unlike other remedies, stimulation can be tried on a temporary ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Pycnopodia s Nervous System Despite its apparent lack of a central coordinating nervous system (no brain), Pycnopodia has a repertoire of sensory systems to locate and capture its prey. Its simple nervous system takes the form of a central ring, with radial nerves extending into each of its rays. Each ray is covered with thousands of tiny tubed feet that provide tactile information such as touch, temperature and body position. At the end of each ray are specialized tube feet filled with sensory cells that detect chemical cues and trigger sensations of taste and smell. Light sensory organs (red spots or eye spots) at the tip of each ray detect light and dark (direction, presence of large objects). • 7. The Power Of Poetry In Terence This Is Stupid Stuff By A.... The Power of Poetry Terence This is Stupid Stuff, by A.E. Housman compelling work of poetry that addresses mainly the theme of the power of poetry and why we should read poetry. Many sections in this poem portray this theme, but one line that shows it best is the section in which Terence, the person whose perspective the poem is being told through, explains that you need to read little bit of poetry so you will be prepared when hard times come to you. Another section that portrays this theme of the power of poetry and why we should read poetry is the section in which Housman is talking about the fact that, when you get drunk, the world seems great and you are happy, but the happiness is temporary, but poetry helps you permanently. A third section that portrays this theme of the power of poetry and why we should read poetry is the section in which Terence is talking about King Mithridates, and that he built up an immunity to the world s poisons by eating little bits of the poison so when others tried to assassinate him, he was immune. Terence suggests that poetry can be like little bits of poison, so when the bad times come, you will be ready. Terence This is Stupid Stuff, by A.E. Housman is about the theme of the power of poetry and why we should read poetry. One section that portrays the theme of the power of poetry and why we should read poetry is the section in which Terence explains that you need to read little bit of poetry so you will be prepared when hard times come to you. Terence s friends ask him to read a poem, but when he reads a very sad poem, they point out that he is fine, so he shouldn t read poetry. Terence responds by telling them that even if you aren t sad, you should still read poetry because it will prepare you for times when you are sad or are in bad times because you will be able to see what struggles people have been through and can relate to them. This is shown in the quote, . This section shows that Housman thinks that people should read poetry even when they are not sad because it feels like you have that you can relate to. He also says that it helps when you can experience what someone else has experienced because you don t feel lonely when you are sad. A few other sections ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. The After Math Of A Raised Hand . What Is The Harm Of A The After Math of a Raised Hand What is the harm of a little physical reinforcement to ensure children know how to properly act in society? This idea of physical reinforcement is also known as corporal punishment and is still present today in southern American states including some Texas school systems. Corporal Punishment is defined as a punishment of a physical nature, such as caning, flogging, or beating however this fails to include the psychological implications of corporal punishment in schools (corporal punishment). The benefits of corporal punishment in the short run are outweighed by the negative effects the punishment produces evident by the Social learning theory, anti social behavior results, and development beyond the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The conditions to model this violent behavior includes attention, retention, reproduction, and motivation which can be interpreted as the attention to the fact that violence is an adult s response causes a child to model the behavior of the adults around them resulting in more violence (Bandura). Subconsciously most adults tend to believe that the easiest way to deal with a disobedient child or person is to physically harm. This answer of violence more times than not stems from the anger a student caused in doing wrong. Justification for corporal punishment originates from the past and is often the defense of pro corporal punishment advocates. Physical punishment can be traced back to ancient times exemplified in Egypt, concerning the slaves that built the pyramids, these deep roots of physical punishment are often referred to as a form of proof that it works. To use Egyptian violence as an example is pushing the envelope of what corporal punishment is today, however the reaction to that punishment is similar because human nature is present in both time periods. Punishment in and of itself is not inheritably detrimental to a person s development, however in the case of school corporal punishment the extra violent input into a child can produce unintended violence later in life. • 9. The Day Of My Meditation Practice It is now the 8th day of my meditation practice. I can t believe how far I have come since the first day. I was already addicted to the feeling and idea of meditation. I was surprised at how clear my mind was today before I began my mantra recitation. As always, I felt the tension in my body fade away as I got into my meditative practice. At the end of today s session I felt really good! I sat on my bed and got comfortable before beginning my meditative practice today. I started off with concentrating on my breathing before reciting my mantra. I felt my body relax. I was surprise at the feeling of ease and relation mediation was providing to me. I feel very good about this practice. Today I decided to do something a little different. Instead of repeating my mantra in my head using my own voice, I decided to listen to an audio playing of the mantra. I sat on my bed and got comfortable before putting on my ear buds on and playing the mantra. It felt different listening to someone else s voice, however I did enjoy it. I found myself more easily being able to concentrate on the mantra, without having to think about the words. I felt my body relax and I enjoyed the sensation that was running through my bones. Once again, I choose to opt to listen to the audio playing of my mantra. I sat down and concentrated on my breathing before hitting play. I enjoyed listening to someone else s voice, it was oddly very calming. At the end of my session, I felt very joyful. I hoped to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In order to further their control of the EV market, we have developed a strategy to produce an entry level, luxury electronic vehicle that maintains Tesla s core values which allows them to compete on a broader scale with electronic vehicles and hybrids. After taking everything into consideration, we believe that our strategy will allow Tesla to gain market share, gain brand awareness, generate brand loyalty and earn profits through our new programs. We have developed the following plan for Tesla: We will develop a brand new, entry level luxury sedan that is fully electric and named the Gen3. It will still have the core components to a Tesla vehicle, but created with a budget in mind to grow the potential target market. This will allow more customers to get their hands on a fully electric vehicle at an affordable price, while still being able to grow the Tesla brand. • 11. The Indian Act Of 1876 And The Amendment Of 1985 Since the beginning of colonization, indigenous people of Canada have been repressed in many ways by the Westerners. Aboriginal women have been having a really hard time, being not only aboriginal, but also women in a male dominated society where women are seen as secondary and don t have all the rights and privileges that men have. We will focus here on the legal discrimination against indigenous women in Canada that came with the Indian Act of 1876 and the amendment of 1985, how those two events influenced women. We will first study why indigenous women have been more discriminated than indigenous men, then how the Indian Act reinforced this inequity. Then we will see how the 1985 amendment came to be, a century later and what are the consequences of legal discrimination for indigenous women in Canada. We will conclude that, in a context of discrimination against natives with colonization, the Indian Act made legal injustices in detriment of indigenous women, and that after years of favouritism against them they finally gained a bit of justice through the amendment of 1985. First of all, it s important to understand the context in which the Indian Act is taking place in terms of equity for aboriginal women. With the colonization from the British and the French in Canada came rapes, violence against indigenous population, especially women that were seen as weaker and easier prey . After the colonizing period, violence against aboriginal women came not only from the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

An Exploration of Gothic Horror Stories Essay An Exploration of Gothic Horror Stories Gothic horror is a type of romantic, horror fiction based on irrational fear that predominated in 18th century England. The term gothic originated from the architectural style of the middle ages, but came to describe the dark, terrifying tales that achieved such popularity. Gothic horror can be determined by many things which exist in all gothic horror stories, for example eerie settings such as gothic monasteries, bleak comfortless castles, grave yards and cobwebbed rooms lit by guttering candles. It can also be determined by a unique character such as a beast, monster, ghost, evil creature and innocent person. Usually the innocent person is killed ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... All three stories were written in the 19th century. They were all set at the same time when they were written. This is a good effect because at the time when they were written, horror stories containing superstition and the macabre were popular because the people at that time believed in witchcraft, ghosts and demons. The location of the action is of great importance in the gothic novel because it creates an atmosphere and feeling to the story. The Judges House is located in the dining room of an old, quiet and isolated house. An old, rambling, heavy built house, this creates a scary atmosphere thus matching the typical setting of a gothic horror story. It goes on to describe the dining room as a, room in darkness, this also creates a scary and terrifying atmosphere because you cant see in the dark and you don t know what s in the dark, this also is an essential gothic horror element because darkness creates a creepy and scary atmosphere. • 17. Beauty Is An Integral Part Of Human Nature The concept of beauty is an integral part of human nature. For centuries men and women have designated a part of each day dedicating their time to their physical appearance. In many cultures beauty is made a priority of life. This is reflective of the expectations the media places on men and women to have a certain look. What most do not realize is beauty is not just defined by the aesthetic pleasure of faces, hair, bodies, and clothes, it is driven by many other factors. The concept of beauty does not have to be tied down to the strict definition of what is visually attractive, and should rather focus on many different aspects of the person as a whole to create a definition of their beauty. There are many factors that contribute to what makes something or in the case of this research, someone beautiful . The explanation for the perception of beauty in one s self and in others is due in part to a biological, a psychological, and a cultural basis working hand in hand to create what humans believe to be beauty. Perception of beauty is manipulated greatly by the biological evolutionary influences on human nature. All of this stems from the deeply rooted evolutionary need to reproduce. In particular, facial beauty of a female or a male is important because the one weapon men and women have to fulfill the ultimate goal of preserving their genes in another generation is attraction. One must be perceived as beautiful first before any sexual attraction can occur (Wilson, 2013). ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 20. Idealism And Tlon, Uqbar, Orbis Tertius Berkeleyan Idealism and Tlön, Uqbar, Orbis Tertius Jorge Luis Borges short work of fiction titled Tlön, Uqbar, Orbis Tertius grapples with many philosophic issues. In the main, this short story deals with the philosophic notion of subjective idealism as posed by George Berkeley s Treatise Concerning Principles of Human Knowledge. Within this essay I argue that, while he acknowledges the presumed irrefutability of Berkeley s argument, Borges Tlön, Uqbar, Orbis Tertius aims to disparage both totalitarianism and Berkeleyan idealism by drawing an analogy between the two via his literary creation of the fictitious world of Tlön. The notion of subjective idealism, within western philosophy, is credited to the 18th century philosopher George Berkeley. In his most notable work regarding this system of metaphysics, a Treatise Concerning Principles of Human Knowledge, Berkeley holds that nothing exists outside of the immaterial ideas within minds. Esse est percipi or to be is to be perceived (Berkeley,11). Berkley s form of subjective idealism is able to avoid the problem of solipsism by his holding that the totality of perceived ideas reside in the mind of God. This monistic system of metaphysics runs contra to the earlier works of Locke and Descartes whose relative theories assumed a dualist stance concerning metaphysics. The philosophic relevance of subjective idealism is conveyed by Borges in Tlön, Uqbar, Orbis Tertius, when he cites David Hume who held that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Lieutenant Dan says something on how his father and his grandfather had all died in war and it was his destiny. Bikini Bottom Marxist Theory Marx s Bikini Bottom When a child is watching the television show SpongeBob SquarePants, it is often viewed as an innocent, comical, cartoon about a Sponge and his day to day activities. But later in life, after learning about Marx s Theory, one can explain the correlation between the two polar opposites. Marx s Theory is the political and economic philosophy of Karl Marx and Friedrich Engels in which the concept of class struggle plays a central role in understanding society s allegedly inevitable development from bourgeois oppression under capitalism to a socialist and ultimately classless society ( Marxism ). The entire town of Bikini Bottom is exactly how a Marxist City would be set up, with each level of the social structure demonstrated with different characters in different classes; poor, middle, and upper. The logic behind the regime s undiplomatic response to the protests is traced back to previous protests such as that in the late 70 s and early 80 s where the Iranian Revolution inspired Syrians to rally against the regime s tyrannical behavior. The Syrian regime responded to these protests by leveling entire cities through the use of artillery, killing an estimated 10,000 to 30,0000 people. • 31. Candide by Voltaire Candide Paper Many critics argue that Candide is not an enlightened work, but Voltaire s satire thoroughly reflects on the philosophical morals and lessons of the Enlightenment. Voltaire s satire comments on the political, social, and religious views of the time, emphasizing the beliefs of a majority of enlightenment thinkers and philosophers. Voltaire demonstrates three different enlightenment thoughts or views in his work: anti feudalism, optimism, and the hypocrisy of the Christian church. Perhaps the most common and well known characteristic of the Enlightenment was anti feudalism. Philosophers during the Enlightenment advocated against the separation of the nobility from the other social classes and tried to obtain equality among all human beings. In Candide Voltaire writes about the outlandish actions of the nobility throughout. For instance, Voltaire describes the character Baron Thunder ten tronckh and his castle as extravagant, even though Westphalia is a homely and mundane estate. Although both the character and his palace seem important, Baron Thunder ten tronckh lacks the nobility to maintain rule over his people. The Baron simply forces the lower classes to complete hard labor and justifies this action by stating that his birth is the right of power. Following this, the Baron s sister refuses to marry Candide s father because he is poor and will not represent Westphalia properly. Although they have similar lineage, the Baroness refuses to marry a man who ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Within Lao Tzu s Thoughts from the Tao Te Ching and Machiavelli s The Prince, there are similar ideas surrounding the definition of a leader. Man is something vast, complicated, that philosophers have been trying to figure for centuries. Different minds have different perceptions. Lao Tzu, for instance, believed that government should trust its people, and not micromanage. He believed people are naturally good, but oppressing them brings out the worst in them. Rulers have to be humble and take care of their people, focusing on matters that are important to their people, not getting caught up in the affairs of other countries. If you don t trust the people/ you make them untrustworthy, (Lao Tzu 58). This statement illustrates how a government is always on edge believing its citizens are going to do something, then they are. If one were to label someone as insane, then that person could not escape from the idea that they are insane. If a government were to control their citizens because they do not trust their citizens then they create a vast majority of laws, all citizens are forced to obey.
