Forced Migration Essay
In the per modern era, human migration was a well known occurrence that was caused by either
force or willingness of the people. When migration was constituted through force, it was
understood to be through political or economical duress. For instance, political measures
unveiling large tax reforms created unbearable cost of living standards for the poor to survive.
Whereas, increased economic labour created through force, was established for the rich to reap the
benefits from majority of the poor. In essence, this widened the gap of economic dualism by
forcing majority of the lower class people into living standards well below the poverty levels.
Evidently, this would cause cultures to revolt on their kings through revolutionary measures... Show

Before, King David gathered a surplus of wealth when in power to bring the Jewish culture into the
Golden Age. With Solomon...the surplus accumulated...rapidly dissipated in ambitious building.
(Asali p.53) through large fortifications and military armaments. At his old age, he placed a heavy
tax burden on his people, and in turn they became largely bitter towards him. After his death,
massive conflicts came before the people to eventually split Israel and Judah into separate
kingdoms. In 800 B.C.E., two centuries later, the Assyrians conquered the north, and many of the
Jews of Israel were deported (Ardito, Gambaro and Torrefranca p.42). Later, in 600 B.C.E., the
kingdom of Judah was overthrown by the Babylons. In turn, this lead to their captivity as slaves;
entering a new era of a nomadic culture spread across the western world. On the other hand, it was
this captivity which strengthened their religious identity, and evidently propagated the largest
monolithic deity known throughout the 21st century: Jesus Christ.
Next, looking at the Han Dynasty, it lasted from 202 B.C.E. to 220 C.E. This time period was said
to be the most prosperous; population growth of approximately 50 million, expansion to Korea,
Vietnam, and Pakistan, and the establishment of the famous Silk Road. It was not until about 184
C.E that this dynasty was to break internally through political and economical reasons

Being A Bartender Research Paper
Bartending is a highly competitive career between young and old adults. Many college student
rely on being a bartender as their main source of income. In many ways, some might say I have
the perfect job. I succeed to work in an upbeat atmosphere, meet new people, and sample some
treasured spirits. Most of the time you can find me laughing with guests while mixing their
favorite cocktails on the menu. I play host to their party and gatekeeper to their alcohol. Some will
try to make friends with me in hopes of free drinks in the future. Although this may sound like the
perfect career there are some disadvantages. Before quitting your day job, here are a few points to
consider. Some of the disadvantages are working late hours, dealing with a stressful work
environment, and inconsistent pay.
To begin, being a bartender will have you putting in the late night work hours. Being a night owl is
an understatement in this career. Many bars close in the early morning, and leave the bartender to
clean up the trash and spilled drinks left behind. The last concern a barkeep would have is spending
two hours cleaning after babysitting drunk customers all night. The bartender is ... Show more

result of getting paid at the end of every shift. Consequently, I become more of an impulse
shopper. I do not think about saving money, being that I am not waiting on a paycheck. With this
in mind, there are slow periods during the year when income can be sparse. I discontinue
spending money when I do not have the usual amount of income. I struggle through weeks where
I earn $400, and others upwards of $900. It is difficult to base your bills on what you are earning.
It is also harder to get a loan for anything because there is such inconsistency in

Other works of his include comedies and dramas like Christine, The Three Musketeers, The
Corsican Brothers, and The Wolf Leader. Throughout his novels, plays, and short stories, Dumas
illustrates a romantic style that proved to be exceptionally popular in his time. Furthermore, he his
works incorporate fantasy, crime, scandals, and travelogues inspired by his journeys to Russia and
Italy. In turn, his novels and plays earned him success and money throughout Europe. He used the
money he earned from his works to build the Chateau de Monte Cristo in Port Marly, France, but
then had to sell it two years later due to financial problems. In 1851, Alexandre Dumas fled to
Brussels, Belgium to escape creditors and the recently elected president, Napoleon Bonaparte. In

What Are The Puritans In America Today
The puritans are people that were from England and moved to America because of the corruption
in the church. The purpose of them moving was to escape persecution of their ways nevertheless
make a new country where God s word was superior law against any man s law. America in the
present day has changed from the 1600s. We now accept the ways and religionof all people unlike
the Puritans. The immigrants that come to America today have the same intentions as the Puritans,
to escape persecution and start a new life. We today still have some of the same intentions as them,
but we are further different now than similar. The religious beliefs that the Puritans had are the
same as the ones current Christians and most of America have. The Puritans

The Three Periodic Trends
There are 3 quasi trends which are boiling point, melting point, and density and 3 periodic trends
which are atomic mass, high specific heat, and electronegativity. The trends that are periodic
increase or decrease as they go up or down the group or period. The quasi trends have regular and
irregular trends which in one group it could increase or decrease and have a another group that has
an irregular trend that in a group can increase and decrease. In the first place, high specific heat,
electronegativity, and atomic mass are both periodic trends because no matter if go down or up a
group or period the numbers will show a trend. The atomic mass is the weight of the atom in
mass. Electronegativity is when two atom share electrons and high specific heat is an amount of
heat needed to change the temperature of one gram of a substance. For example in atomic mass,
going down the noble gas group shows that it is going from the lowest atomic mass to the highest
atomic mass of that group. Also, if you go across the second row you can see that the mass
increases. This demonstrates that the trend is periodic... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Density is mass divided by volume and the measurement of how compact something is. Melting
point is when the element goes from solid to a liquid and boiling point is when the element goes
from a liquid to a gas. For example for density, if you look at group 4 you can go down the
column and see that it goes from lowest to highest density. You can also go down from the third
row and see that the density in a irregular trend. It is the same for the melting point and boiling
because they might a group the shows a clear trend and another group that shows a irregular trend.
This demonstrates that these three are quasi periodic trends because in the groups or rows they

I agree that the clock will lose time at the higher altitude. The acceleration due to gravity decreases
which means the frequency will decrease which means the angular frequency will decrease
resulting in a loss of time.
As the clock is moved further from the center of the earth, it loses time. This is because the
acceleration from gravity decreases more and more as higher altitudes are reached. This decrease
in the acceleration due to gravity leads us to believe that the frequency and the angular frequency
decrease as well which all relate to one other and cause time to be lost.
The clock would lose time because as the value of g decreases, the period increases.
When the clock is moved away from sea level gravity would slightly decrease causing the clock to
lose time. Pendulums are the most accurate at sea level.

Big Fish Reflection
Edward Bloom was a story teller. He would tell elaborate stories to his son since he was born.
Not only were the stories exciting, they were told to bring life and excitement into Edwards life.
Growing up, William enjoyed his father s stories. As time goes on, the stories began to become
more and more uneventful and less entertaining. This was because William has heard the same
stories his whole life. He did not know what was true and what was fake. On his death bed,
Edward reconnects with William by getting him to see that he was not lying his whole life, just
telling his life story in a much more interesting way. Yes, some details were changed but that does
not mean they were all lies. William just did not see that until the end.
Big fish tells a story of adventure, love, life and death. Edward loved his family most of all. He let
you know many time throughout the film. What stuck out the most to me was when he finished
remodeling Jennifer s house. Jen came on to him. The love he had for his wife truly showed
through when he rejected her affection. This shows, how that the head of the family loves more
than anything: his wife and only son (Vega). At a young age, Will didn t have the relationship with
his father that he wanted. This was because Edward was often gone for periods of time, traveling
and working. Upon Edwards return, he would tell Will stories of his travels and adventures. To this
end, William was not able to tell if his dads stories were true or not.

In response to the September 11, 2001 terror attacks, the United States strengthened its presence

operations. At that time, I was a member of the United States Naval Reserves; I served as an
Explosive Ordnance Disposal Diver. I was deployed to Sigonella from November 2001 September
2002. There, part of my duties included my service as an EOD diving supervisor. A diving

Due to the location of the military installation, divers are usually transported to the ocean by
boat, to a dive location usually 30 90 minutes away. If a diver was stricken, a helicopter was
supposed to transport the rescue team, who, once arrived would swim 50 100 yards to the diver,
placing him in a rescue stretcher, and towing him back to the boat. This process alone could take
approximately 30 minutes. The helicopter transporting the rescue team meanwhile would hover
overhead. In turn the rescue diver and stricken diver, are at risk because the rescue diver is
attempting to swim with rescue stretcher in tow through rough waters. Assuming they are both
able to get onto the boat safely, the rotor wash is still endangering not only the victim and rescue
crew, but everyone on the boat as well, because the rough water could cause the boat to capsize.
Under these conditions the stretcher could not be safely lifted to the helicopter. If the boat did
not capsize, it would transport the crew back to base 30 90 minutes away, prolonging the wait
time before the diver could receive medical attention. Under that policy the rescue process could
take anywhere from 90 minutes to 3 hours, depending on how far they were from base, to get the
stricken diver medical attention there. Time is critical, especially if the stricken diver experiences
a medical emergency like a heart

Analysis Of The Movie Casablanca
Intro
Casablanca, first released on January 23rd, 1943 is undoubtedly one of the masterpieces of
Classical Hollywood film. Written and released in the midst of World War Two it explores
themes such as love, desire and especially sacrifice. Although the love story of the protagonists is
the cause and catalyst for most of the narrative, one would not necessarily associate it with the
conventional Classical Hollywood love story. Rather as a fabula based on the principle of the
importance of sacrifice in order to overcome a common enemy, in this case the Nazis. Casablanca
does indeed contain many of the common characteristics identified with the Classical Hollywood
film. An example being the the way director, Michael Curtiz used a mainly chronologically
ordered narrative structure and the utilisation of a Cause and Effect chain. In this essay I will
looking at the various ways I believe this film does fall into the criteria of a Classical Hollywood
narrative and also how some could perceive that it does not.
From the opening sequence one can establish that Casablanca obeys the elementary principles
used in the Classical Hollywood narrative structure. In the initial minutes of the film the audience
is introduced via a voice over of the various political happenings prior to the films start such as
Hitler s occupation of Europe and the surge of refugees who fled the Nazi s to Casablanca. The use
of narration presents the audience with a simple introduction which the rest of

Smart Grids Technologies Can Be Put Into Four Functional...
Generally, smart grids technologies can be put into four functional categories: Information
collectors; information assemblers, displayers, and assessors; information based controllers and
energy resources. Smart grids collected data from various types of sensors. These sensors
measure performance related characteristics of electricity system components. Assessors are
used to analysis and display the information they received from the devices. The information
based controllers devices will use the information that they received to control the other devices
behavior to achieve the goal. Energy or power resources include the technologies that can used to
generate, store, or reduce demand for electricity. However, renewable energy sources have been
used in so many countries to reduce CO2 emissions and provide sustainable electrical power. The
power electronic interface between a renewable energy source and the grid can be used to control
reactive power output and hence the network voltage as well as curtailing real power output, and
so enable the generator to respond to the requirements of the grid. Advanced metering infrastructure
(AMI) is one of the smart grid technologies that have been used in many homes and business. Their
objective is to enable to let the users can use wattage readers to check how much juice their
appliances and gadgets use. They measure energy usage with less than one hour intervals,

Given the competitive dynamics in the commercial aircraft industry, it is not likely that Airbus
could have become a viable competitor without subsidies. These dynamics include investment
costs in the billions for research and development of a new airliner, long break even times,
significant experience curve on the manufacturing side, and the highly volatile demand for
aircraft. Due to a lack of market share, if Airbus entered the market without this support they

5. Why do you think that the U.S. industry reacted with caution to attempts by politicians to reopen
the trade dispute in 1993?
There are several reasons why the US industry acted with caution. First of all, positive trade
agreements were already in place from the 1992 trade agreement. The industry probably thought it
should wait longer to ensure things worked out on their own before allowing politicians to
intervene and make changes. If politicians had caused things to go south, which they inevitably do,
these agreements would have been jeopardized. Secondly, the industry was practicing risk
management. A lack of caution could have created a mess as the economy was taking a turn for the
worse. Lastly, reopening old wounds could have caused Europe to pull out of many deals with the
US, further disrupting international relations. The US weighed the odds and very quietly backed
out, as they should have.
6. In an era of global competition, what is the case for antitrust authorities to permit the formation

An article written by Peter Waldman reveals that traces of glyphosate have been detected in
cookies, crackers, chips, breakfast cereals, and honey, and in human urine and breast milk (42). This
highlights the evidence that no matter where you live, you are ingesting glyphosate. At the same
time, this quote is informing people that there are no regulations on glyphosate remnants in food.
Also, in Montana a wildlife rehabilitator, Judy Hoy, found that glyphosate precipitated mineral
deficiencies and thyroid hormone disruption in whitetail deer, leading to the population decline
over the past several years (Whittington). With this evident one can see that production agriculture
is harming our native wildlife. Meanwhile, Argentina agriculturists are experiencing the obstacle
of glyphosate tolerant weeds, known as superweeds, as well as volunteer genetically engineered
crops that pop up and are resistant to glyphosate. These issues have caused farmers to apply twice
as much herbicide on the crops to remove the contagions (Gordon 154). This crisis shows that
glyphosate is not always a surefire way to remove weeds and farmers have to use more chemical to
get the desired effect. Thus, the extra chemical further pollutes nearby water and the soil causing
more damage to the environment. Likewise, the United Kingdom is encountering identical
problems, on top of other serious troubles. An editorial by Jeffrey Smith shines a light on the issue

Pros And Cons Of Globalization In Chindia
Is Chindia a friend or a threat
We have spent a semester studying the effects of globalization on the world and business from
currency exchange to trade policy. Through our discussions and readings, we have learned that
globalization is a boon to business as much as it is a curse. In business, strategic alliance
agreements help companies further develop process, foster market expansion and surpass
competitiors. Although they both exist within the context of society, government and business are
two separate entities which share a few features. Governments at even the most basic level exist to
protect their citizens interests and to ensure that their needs are being met. While, business can
protect the interests of a group or country, their primary reason for existence is to turn profits to
satiate their shareholders and validate those who work daily to provide the good/service. However,
in order to provide adequately for their citizenry, governments are compelled to think and act a bit
more like businesses to ensure that their citizens remain content. India and China are two examples
of countries which at least in some areas of federal policy are thinking like businesses and as such
has formed, Chindia, what would be called a strategic alliance in business. In 2006, bilateral trade
between the two countries reached almost 20 billion dollars and revenue has only increased in
recent years (Economist). At first glance it seems that India and China are nearly equally matched;

Theme Of Redemption In Gran Torino
GRAN TORINO
Identify critical moments in the film Gran Torino where Walt Kowalski is transformed from a racist
tormented character to a compassionate father figure.
Gran Torino is a film directed by Clint Eastwood, with Eastwood who is also taking on the key role
as the main character and protagonist; Walt Kowalski. Eastwood plays a retired auto worker and
Korean War veteran who feels emptiness in his life. His character is happiest on his home porch,
beer in hand, dog his only ally, his lawn immaculate, despising the many Asian, Latino and black
families in his neighborhood. However, the redemption of such a character is critical to the
storyline as Walt becomes a reluctant hero, standing up to gang members who have totally unsettled
his lifestyle; an attempted theft of his prized possession, a 1972 Gran Torino, sets Walt on a mission
to rectify things for himself and his Hmong neighbors. Eastwood uses symbolism and cinemograph
techniques to exemplify the theme of redemption. The most notable moment when Walt becomes a
father figure, is when he confronts the gang at their house, just after sue was raped and beaten.
The film explores the possibility of redemption, second chances , and the hope that comes from
having a positive future. Both Walt and Thao experience redemption in the film. Walt is saved from
the guilt of a murderous past as a soldier and the disappointment of broken relationships within his
own immediate family. Ultimately, Walt finds peace with himself, with others and with God. Walt s
young neighbour, Thao is rescued from a future of crime and violence, and the shame of attempted
theft. Ultimately, Thao gains a future as a hard working, respectable American citizen and man. It
is evident from the beginning of the movie that Walt has a hard line attitude towards the church,
which is partly because of the pain and torment he experienced from Korea. Walt exhibits strong
racial slurs as he had strong racial prejudices, also mainly because of the 50 s style of thinking he
has and likewise from the time in Korea, as this is how they talked about them. It is symbolic as he
still thought and spoke like that back after the war, showing the audience that he is still at war, not

Why Did Lynching Occur Towards African Americans in American History?
When President Abraham Lincoln addressed the nation in his Gettysburg address he expressed the
bloodshed from the civil war would bring about a new birth of freedom for the American people
and nation. During the 19th century and in the aftermath of the civil war, white southerners
engaged in a ruthless and never ending cycle of violence against African Americans. The white
southerners engaged in violence over whether or not, after slavery African Americans would get
full benefits of citizenships. The terror that was inflicted by whites onto African Americans
resulted in 4,743 of African Americans being tortured, and lynched between the years of 1882
1968. Lynching has become the most disturbing and lawless act in American history. Many
scholars and leaders have debated over the reasoning of such violent acts such as lynching during
this time period. In the Ida B wells book The Red Record she explains that lynching wasn t just
about accused crimes of the African Americanman, but the lynching of African American men in
the community who were Black people who were educated or business men. She concludes this by
examining the different excuses the whites gave regarding the reasoning behind the massive
lynching throughout the year. The first excuse to the rest of the world was to stamp out alleged race
riots. Ida B. wells argues this couldn t have been the case since the Negros couldn t have

after the Holocaust ended, Rebuilding Jewish Life after the Holocaust, and the Homeland, Israel.
World War II ended in the spring of 1945. Germany unconditional surrender on May 8, 1945
(Jewish Life in Austria and Germany Since 1945, 47). An article called The Aftermath of The
Holocaust, in the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum website states that: in 1945, when
Anglo American and Soviet troops entered the concentration camps, they discovered piles of
corpses, bones, and human ashes testimony to Nazi mass murder. Soldiers also found thousands
of Jewish and non Jewish survivors suffering from starvation and disease. For survivors, the
prospect of rebuilding their lives was daunting (The Aftermath of The Holocaust). After the war
was over, there was still a lot of hatred of Jews. Pogroms means violent anti Jewish riots (The
Aftermath of The Holocaust) occurred in Poland. The largest of these occurred in the town of
Kielce in 1946 when Polish rioters killed at least 42 Jews and beat many others (The Aftermath of
The Holocaust). An organization called the Jewish Brigade Group, a Palestinian Jewish unit of the
British army was formed in late 1944. This organization that aimed to facilitate

According to the speculations of linguistic expert, John McWhorter, who wrote the article, What
the World Will Speak in 2115, in one hundred years English will become the most widely
understood language. If current trends continue, in the future one can imagine a world in which
humans all share a single universal language. Having a common language would potentially open
the doors to many opportunities for increased economic activity and cultural interaction.
Additionally, as we travel into the 22nd Century, lesser used and more complex languages that are
spoken today will become extinct. Subsequently, the few languages that survive will evolve into ...

According to his work, English is the fastest spreading language in human history and is used by
an estimated 1.27 billion people globally (Neeley, 2012). The English language is already the
most popular language in the world, accompanied by each person s native language. Also,
compared to other languages English is relatively easy to learn (McWhorter, 2015). This does not
mean that the meshing of new versions of English are always pristine. Ana Lucia Gonzalez,
reporter for BBC, wrote the article, Life in Spanglish for California s Young Latinos to address this
issue of blending language.
However, it may come as a surprise that English would be the one to dominate, given that
Mandarin Chinese is spoken by the largest population in the world. It is very unlikely for
Mandarin to replace English because English is the already the official language in commerce
around the world and it is also the language in which organizations such as Asia Pacific Economic
Cooperation (APEC) communicate (Martinez, 2014). A reason that McWhorter provided to why
Mandarin Chinese will not be used as a global language, is because it is very difficult to master the
language if not introduced to it at a young age. Furthermore, English is much more user friendly

Dr Pepper Snapple Inc: Energy Drinks
MKTG 5320
Wesley Gordon
Introduction
In the ever changing world of customer needs and expectations Dr Pepper Snapple was faced with
an increased customer focus on energy drinks. This area, when exploited correctly, is a high
growth and high margin beverage business. In early September 2007, Andrew Baker had his
marching orders. He emerged out a long discussion about entering the energy drink business and off
he went.
First let s understand that an energy drink simply does as its title suggest, gives the consumer
energy. This is accomplished most of the time with caffeine from a guaranabean. Some of the other
players in this market ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This could be company strengths, current market penistrationpenetration, supplier agreements and
simply all of the business and/or customer loyalties that they have had. Also in today s market the
consumers are looking for the next new thing . They no longer want an extension of what they
already have. The consumers are loyal to a company, but can quickly change focus if a company
fails to continue to change to meet their needs and/or demands for change.
3. Do nothing
Dr Pepper could always do nothing at this time. During the stand down they could evaluate mergers,
joint ventures, or buyouts as they market strengthens.
Making a decision Given the track record of Dr Pepper Snapple and looking at the SWOT
analysis I feel that Dr Pepper should introduce an entire new product line. They can leverage their
ability to manage a diverse brand business, the leverage they have in the RTD segment, and the
strengths that the business as a whole has.
Implement the choice FDr Pepper has a great opportunity to penetrate the energy drink market.
They could quickly take a major market share and continue to support the ever changing customer
needs and ever changing expectations. The only remaining concept is how to do it.
1. Target Market Selection Who is to be serviced needs to be determined. Target heavy users, all
users, or even what age and gender to focus on.
2. Product Line and Positioning Choice The product line itself has to be determined. Is it

Nanotechnology For Enhanced Solar Conversion
Egbo Kingsley O. PhD in Nanostructures for Enhanced Solar Conversion Research Proposal
Abstract The possibilities of employing a nanoscale metal topography that will employ surface
plasmon excitation phenomena towards improving the light absorption efficiency of organic solar
cells will be investigated. This goal is achievable by analytically designing and producing optically
active nanostructures which are used to excite surface plasmons at the wavelengths range dictated
by the sun in order to support the confinement of light beyond the diffraction limit, thus leading to
high weighted enhancements over a wider range of the solar spectrum. This can be achieved by
employing nanostructured materials with unique properties tailored for the materials characteristics
of II VI nanorod systems across the solar spectrum capable of creating significant enhancements
while preventing unwanted thermal losses. Also external quantum efficiency measurements on the
nanostructured cells will be made, this is expected to demonstrate a substantial photon absorption
enhancement across the solar spectrum. Finally, key insights into light absorption and trapping
mechanisms in these plasmon enhanced cells through a combination of three dimensional finite
difference time domain simulations, optical absorption, and external quantum efficiency
measurements will be obtained Introduction The increasing population of the world is making
demands on the availability of energy supply and research has

Puerto Rico Narrative
Koki, Koki, Koki . It was Christmas night, where me and my family took a roundtrip to Puerto
Rico, to visit my father s side of the family. As I m walking out of the airplane, and into the
airport, I hear these noises Koki, Koki, Koki , in a repetitive melody. I start wondering what is
that noise and where is it coming from , and behold, it is a small frog. That was the first thing I
noticed once I stepped inside Puerto Ricos airport. But why did my familyand I book a trip to
Puerto Rico? To see frogs? Certainly not. My family is very disconnected, so we decided to fly
to Puerto Rico Christmas night and spend a week there to recommunicate with our family. But in
the midst of visiting my family, we also went to festivals to celebrate the upcoming year. Oh my
was the first thing that came up in mind, as I saw that I was surrounded by mountains everywhere.
The airport itself was on top of a mountain, and knowing how I am scared of heights, I began to
think what did I just get myself into ?
As the next day went by, we went to go see my family where they lived in a town called El Rincon

Student Lo 7 Students Loan
7 student loan myths debunked
When it comes to student loans, there is a lot of information to take in especially for a new college
student who is exploring their financing options for the first time, or a new graduate who has just
started paying off their student loan debt. With all of the different information out there, it can be
easy to get confused, and perhaps even misunderstand certain things about student loans. The
following are some common student loan myths, debunked:
Myth #1: I m not worried about my student loan debt, because I can just have some or all of my
debt forgiven
Fact: It s not easy to qualify for student loan forgiveness. The criteria can be rather strict, and you
usually have to be working in a specific industry ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
You can usually get your payments adjusted and lowered based on your income, so if you haven
t exactly reached the salary you were hoping for post graduation, don t fret. You may also be able
to temporarily defer payments as well. However, you ll want to consider the disadvantage of not
opting for a standard repayment schedule. You are essentially lengthening your loan by delaying the
inevitable, which means you ll pay more interest in the end.
Myth #3: I can discharge my student loan debt through bankruptcy if I ever really need to
Fact: Not all debts can be discharged through bankruptcy, and typically, student loan debt falls into
that category. That doesn t mean it s impossible, but isn t as easy as discharging other types of debt,
and you may not be eligible. As such, it s important to not just assume that bankruptcy can be an
automatic solution for any student loan debt troubles.
Myth #4: I probably don t qualify for financial aid, so I should just take out student loans
Fact: Not necessarily. Many students qualify for some level of funding, and unlike student
loans, financial aid usually doesn t need to be paid back (there are some exceptions to this for
example, if you fail a class). It doesn t cost anything to just apply and see what you re eligible for.
Even if you don t receive enough financial aid to avoid student loans completely, every little bit
helps, and that s less you ll need to borrow.
Myth #5: I ll be required to borrow far more

Victor had many advantages to be a successful student. He was born in a rich family. His parents,

of a workshop. Unfortunately, when the planned keynoter for the convention was delayed and other
authors in attendance did not volunteer to give a speech, Victor said he could.
He had planned to talk about his book Macho, but when he faced the crowd of teachers, his
experience at school came back into his mind. He said he had faced a lot of abuse and his efforts
to overcome bad teaching and become a writer. He admired good teachers with all his heart but
criticized bad teachers. That presentation was not what the audience expected. Some reacted cruelly

Preservation Of Wetland Conservation Protection Laws,...
Introduction Wetlands are one of the most biologically diverse and productive ecosystems on the
earth. While they only occupy a very small percentage of land area, wetlands can be located all
over the planet, ranging from near the northern and southern poles all the way to the tropics. Many
biological, chemical and physical properties of wetlands allow them to provide various functions to
surrounding ecosystems, and humans have found personal value from several of these ecological
functions. Unfortunately, a history of exploitation of wetlandservices has led to their destruction and
degradation. The loss of wetland area has consequences for many aspects of the environment that
are tied closely with the functions of wetlands. However, the values of wetlands are now being
recognized worldwide, and have led to the installment and enforcement of wetland conservation,
protection laws, regulations, and management plans [Mitsch and Gosselink, 2007].
Definitions In order to appreciate the many functions and values of wetlands, it is essential to
understand what a wetland actually is. Wetlands can be found in all climate zones, ranging from the
tropics to the tundra, while only occupying 4 6 percent of the earth s land area [Mitra et al., 2005].
Wetlands, as ecotones between terrestrial and aquatic systems, have many unique features that set
them apart from other natural ecosystems, including the presence of standing water for extended
periods of time, particular soil

Jack the Egomaniac in William Golding s Lord of the Flies
Having an individual take control over a group is inevitable. Adolf Hitler took over Germany; at
first he was appointed as chancellor but the Germans let him get away with taking over as
dictator (Truemen , 2013). It was out of fear that the Germans let him be in power. In Lord of the
Flies, William Golding utilizes Jack as the most important character in the novel because of how
his psychological personality affects the plot. Jack, much like Hitler, gains control by instilling
fear into the others and takes over as leader. Throughout the whole book Golding continues to use
Jack to twist the story. He stands in the way of the other boys success in getting off of the island.

Jack tries hard to turn everyone against Ralph by saying Hands up [...] whoever wants Ralph not
to be chief? (118). Jack pushes boundaries throughout the whole book because he was not elected
to be chief. He continuously tries to cast the group away from Ralph and begins to embrace
savagery and violence. Once again Jack displays himself as the id when he is trying to lure the
others away from Ralph so he can egotistically become in control of the group to get what he
wants. Jack picks on Piggy throughout the whole novel making Piggy seem inferior to
everyone; when Jack compares Ralph to Piggy, he is demoralizing him in front of the group and
creating the illusion that he is weak. [Ralph is] like Piggy. He says things like Piggy. He isn t a
proper chief. (50). From the time Jack met Piggy; he made him look foolish to the group, even

The exact age of the Earth has long been an argument between those who believe that God created

people living in poor urban areas were Black. The Black Panther Party was a socialist and Black
nationalist organization that was founded 51 years ago to address these issues among others.
The organization, which had a far left political position, lasted for merely 16 years and its
influence continues to impact the world up till this day. It was the largest Black revolutionary
organization to ever exist. Founded by Bobby Seale and Huey Newton, the party began in
October 1966 in Oakland, California. The BPP s original purpose was to protect fellow citizens

Affecting Emotions in the Workplace and Long Term Consequences Employees, particularly in
service industries, find themselves increasingly called upon to display positive emotions in the

display rule as emotional labor (p. 90). According to Grandey (2003), research has shown that
positive affective displays, or expressing positive emotions, in service interactions, such as smiling

Socialization as part of the onboarding process and throughout an employee s career provides
examples and constant reminders of the affective displays that are desirable for the organization.
Finally, rewards and punishments provide the reinforcement needed to continually modify positive
and negative displays. Negative Long Term Effects According to Ang Chooi Hwa (2012)
emotional labor had both beneficial effects for the organization and negative effects on the
employee (p. 115). Montgomery et al. (2006) assert that emotionally demanding interactions can
mean less energy available for leisure and family involvement (p. 204). Additionally, Pines and
Aronson (as cited in Montgomery et al., 2006) affirm that emotionally demanding work situations
over long periods of time can lead to burnout, a state of exhaustion (p. 204). Burnout, as an overall
negative state, can be responsible for poor health and negative mental states. Hoschild (as cited in
Grandey, 2000) agrees that emotional labor is stressful and may result in burnout. However,
Grandey (2000) differentiates between surface acting and deep acting to determine that emotional
labor can have both positive and negative long term effects for the employee (p. 97 101). The
author further asserts that since surface acting is often equivalent to faking that it is the more
detrimental of the two, resulting in stressful experiences for the employee. This makes sense, since

Difference Between Modern And Modern Architecture
Contemporary architecture indicates to the style of today s architecture. Its style is not defined;
because it is constantly changing, plus it choses different styles and eras. On the other hand,
Modern Architecture has defined its style. It describes a specific era design, that it leads to the
history of machination and to the 1920s 1950s styles.
Many people mistaken in defining modern architecture and contemporary architecture, say that both
of them are completely the same. This research paper will show you the comparison between both
modern and contemporary architecture, talking about both characteristics, methods and histories.
Both styles are confusingly used together sometimes; because modern architecture styles and

It likes its owner to enjoy the inner function and the main purpose of it. The materials and the
elements are purely shown in the space, there is nothing that is hidden or hard to look up for.
Modern style has an open floor plan, it shows to the viewer the elements of the structures and as
well the supports. This is why modern style is well known for its simplicity and honesty ; because
all its materials and elements are exposed and brought out to the viewer. Modern style prefers using
lines, in many of its designs there is a constant in the elements and sharp features. All the structural
elements (windows, fireplace, roof lines, staircases...) shows strongly the inspiration of linear
design. This feature is more outstanding in modern style and less in another. In this style, the lines
are either straight or angles but definitely not curved. Modern style aimed also at having more than
one roof line in different levels, rather than using the classical triangle shape style. This shows off
the complication that modern style has in its design. The Varity number of the lines and ceilings
got it interesting to the viewer for its mixed materials and unique outstanding. This also shows how
modern style sometimes focuses on the architectural design and having an amazing sculptural

Orson Welles Use Of Film Techniques In Citizen Kane
Orson Welles is well known for his iconic 1941 American film Citizen Kane . This film goes

Examples Of Fair Business Practices
Fair Business Practices
In the United States, several laws were established to keep businesses operating fairly and
competitively in every market. With businesses willing to do just about anything to gain the
competitive edge, antitrust laws were set into place to prevent to keep a companies from being
dishonest while trying to obtain new clientele. Being a small business is tough trying to compete
with larger companies, such laws protect them from market allocation, bid rigging, and price fixing.
Coming to an agreement to not operate in the same space as another company, dividing area to
benefit each other is illegal. Being a large company, practicing this method allows the two
companies to set prices where smaller businesses cannot compete and eventually going out of
business. A Boston food retailer accused C S Grocers Inc. and Supervalu Inc., two of the largest
U.S. grocery wholesalers of such practices in 2009. Allegations include that the two wholesalers
conspired to inflate prices and not compete with one another. The Federal Trade Commission has
uncovered other cases such as the Vitamin Cartel in 2001. In this case eight companies came
together and agreed on the price and volume for every major vitamin sold for human and animal
consumption (U.S. Dept. of Justice, 2003). With the eight companies working together instead of
competing, they controlled the market making sure that they received all the profits. After being
investigated and prosecuted, several firms and

Examples Of Foreshadowing In Call Of The Wild
Call of the wild is the worst book I ever read in my life. It is hard to understand, especially when
the people talk. Also I didnt know alot of words mean. My favorite chapter was chapter six. The
worst chapter was chapter seven. My opinion about chapter one is that is was sort a okay for the
most part. I liked it when Buck is at his house in Santa Clara California. I disliked it when Buck
got beaten and mistreated. what stood out to me was when the people poked Buck with sticks.
Also when the man in the red sweater beats Buck with a club. My opinion about chapter two is
that it worse than chapter one. I hated it when Curly died when she was just trying to be nice. I
disliked it when Buck and Spitz got into a fight. I liked it when it said buck got stronger and
smarter. I also liked it when Buck joined the other dogs to howl at the northern lights. I think

The setting in the first chapter is sunny, Santa Clara, California. The setting at the end of the
book is in the snowy, woods of Alaska. Call of the wild is a great book if your are interested in
the whole outdoors adventure and survival. Here is some examples of foreshadowing in chapter
two and three, Buck and the team will start working together is that they were doing so much
training in chapter two. The reason why I thought that Spitz and Buck are going to fight is
because they got into a lot of other fights. The reason why I think Buck is going to learn how to
steal food is because he saw Pike steal a whole piece of bacon and the story said, He watched and
learned. Buck is going to stop hurting himself because it said, His muscles became hard as iron
and he grew callous to all ordinary pain. And the reason I think Buck and Sol leks will fight is
because Sol leks and Buck got into a fight before so I think they are going to fight again. That is
what I thought about Call of the

Driving Forces Affecting The Environment And Competitive...
There are several driving forces affecting the environment and competitive structure within the child
care. We will examine them in greater detail below.
As technology advances, more and more consumers are looking to the internet to make their
purchasing decisions, including child care. In addition, to fully research options, consumers are
looking for more robust, interactive websites. Therefore, some child care centers are offering
virtual walkthrough s of their facility on their website. Additionally, many centers offer tuition
calculators (customizable pricing based on hours required and the child s age), real time waiting
list information, and the facility calendar up to one year in advance. Another is the increase in the

As incomes rise the market for premium child care options, which may include upgraded preschool
options, nutritional offerings to cater to many different diets and eating styles (e.g. vegan, Paleo,
nut free, gluten free etc.). Conversely, if the nay sayers have their way and the U.S. again faces an
economic downturn and jobs are lost, the decreasing market will increase competition among child
care centers to attempt to maintain their market share.
Some Montessori s participate in the state subsidy programs which assist low income families in
paying for their child care. This expands their market and increases their market share, however to
participate in these programs requires the center be susceptible to the frequent regulatory and
governmental policy changes. This can place an exceptional burden on the child care providers to
remain abreast of the requirements and meet them, despite the possibility of frequent changes.
One other area of concern for local Montessori s and child care centers nationally is the fluctuations
in societal concerns for the children enrolled. In the past twenty years public opinion, research, and
scholarly recommendations have oscillated between enrollment results in lower development in the
child, to enhanced development and everything in between. While public opinion certainly affects
the industry, parents will still need child care, therefore this driving force has a rather weak
influence on the industry.

Peace Like A River Romanticism Essay
Peace Like a River as a Romantic Novel Imagination (n): Gateway to transcendent experience and
truth. In literature, and more specifically Peace Like a River, imagination is introduced into the
novel through an exceptional movement, known as Romanticism. Romanticism revolved around a
new form of writing resulting in a major shift between faith in the matter and faith in the senses,
and mainly pertains to the individual, intuition, and imagination. Clearly it can be argued that
Romanticismis a major attribute and strong support system in the novel Peace Like a River, by
its use of imagination. Reuben s description of Davy as an awed hush... when he enters the
courtroom explores the possibility of what is expected isn t always what is. As well, Reuben s
views and thoughts of what Mr. Ford s character and disposition appeared to be even though he
hadn t even met the man. Finally, Swede s ballads and tales about Sunny Sundown clearly
describe the Romantic ideas and elements such as imagination. Therefore, it is quite clear that Leif
Enger s novel, Peace Like a River, is most definitely a Romantic novel with the element of
imagination, due to the three factual events that occur: Reuben s view over Davy when presented
in the courtroom, Reuben s description over Lonnie Ford without even meeting, and Swede s ballads

around her makes everything seem so surreal. How could an imagination like that, produce all the
questions and wonders of the world, into a few lines that could make everything crystal clear in a
matter of moments. Swede transforms things, and proves that imagination can lead to great things.
It is absolute that Swede s use of Sunny Sundown and her ballad s hold a large amount of
imagination, making it quite clear that Romanticism occurs throughout the novel, Peace Like a

Operation Iraqi Freedom And Operational Design
In order to develop effective solutions for complex military problems, the Joint Community within
the US Military adopted the methodology of Operational Design in Joint Doctrine. This
methodology addresses the concept of complex, ill structured or wicked problems. In fact,
Lessons Learned as a result of operations conducted over the last 15 years played an instrumental
role in the continued development of this doctrine. Operation Iraqi Freedom (OIF) illustrates a
perfect case study for evaluation utilizing this methodology. Therefore, the intent of this paper is to
evaluate US Military campaign planning for OIF by using operational design as the framework for
this analysis. First, this paper looks at how planners and commanders interpreted pre invasion
civilian policy guidance, their understanding of the current operational environment, and how these
commanders defined the problem. Next, it identifies the strengths and weaknesses of the initial
approach. After discussing this initial approach, this paper examines how commanders assessed
the campaign and refined the approach to include how the reframing occurred. Lastly, it provides
examples of how these lessons learned shaped current joint planning policy and doctrine. Based on
initial guidance received from Secretary of Defense (SECDEF) Donald Rumsfeld in November
2001, CENTCOM Commander, GEN Tommy Franks and his team of planners perceived that the
original contingency plan developed in the event of war with Iraq

The Self Essay
The Self Every situation that an individual is exposed to throughout life, helps mold our self. As
humans we have the ability to see ourselves from the outside, and all through life we try to see
what others see and our selfrevolves around the generalized other. We observe how others perceive
us and we make conclusions depending on our observations. How we act around others depends on
the image we feel they have towards us.

interactions with others. Cooley described this process as the ... Show more content on

On the other hand if you see yourself as an individual who can communicate without a problem
and you see that you can keep others interested in a given conversations, your reaction is more
positive. Through this looking glass self we develop a self concept. Depending on the
observations we make concerning the reactions of others we develop feelings and ideas about
ourselves. The reflection we see in the mirror is either negative or positive depending on the
feedback we get back from those around us. Misjudgments of the reactions of others become part
of our self concept also the misinterpretations of how others think of us. Self concepts begins in
childhood but it continues to develop throughout life. As we observe how other people react to us,
we modify our self.
The self is never a finished project, and it continues to change as our life takes different turns. Our
self reacts to the environment that we are in. As the self expands we put together the different
reactions making us a unique individual. Every individual has a different way of thinking and
therefore they make their own choices about certain situations. Going through different life

Natchez Trace History
The Natchez Trace was the overland coffle that led slave caravans, from Virginia, Maryland,
Kentucky, and Tennessee to the Forks of the Road market of Natchez. Delaney arrived in
Mississippi through the second middle passage. We also believe he traveled with other slaves
down the Old Natchez Trace . According to the National Park Service the Trace as it is known
greatly supported the slave trade of the second middle passage. The Natchez Trace was possibly
the most recent legal slave route in North America. From the 1830s through the Civil War, many
thousands of bondspeople were transported from the southeast (Maryland to Florida) to the new
lands of the old southwest (Mississippi and Alabama). The most efficient route for this was often
the Natchez Trace where, at the end of their journey, they would be sold at the Forks of the Road
slave market. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

historic travel corridor used by American Indians, Kaintucks, European settlers, slave traders,

implications of each variance in relation to Dessert Valley s Premium Pale Ale and Blonde Lager.
A.Static budget variance analysis
Static budget variances provide an overall picture of whether planned results were achieved, and
they are a useful starting point for investigating sales revenue and fixed costs. However, static
budget variances make it difficult to determine whether a variance is due to a change in expected
volume or to other aspects of performance. Premium Pale Ale
Analysis shows an overall unfavourable result driven from an increase in variable costs driven
from an increase in quantity sold versus what was budgeted.

Compare And Contrast Grindel And Beowulf
Greed, a word hard to explain or put into words when you are the victim. When a person feels
freed they become a different person, they are no longer your friend but someone to avoid. In the
two films we watched it was very interesting to see the same characters in completely different
personalities but similar stories. From personal experiences and stories it is easy to see a theme in
these tales. The way these similarly different men handle their situations can lead back to their
priorities.
In the first film Beowulf and Grindel. 2005. DVD. Beowulf washes up on a beach and is soon

Slapshot And Goon Analysis
Hockey is a sport that dates its roots back to the 19th century in Canada. It has always been
considered a violent and brutal sport. The puck which is the thing they slide around on the ice
and shoot with. Now, that word comes from the Scottish word puc , which literally means to
punch or deliver a blow. The violence and brutality associated with hockey is an immediate draw
for a crowd at the movies, because in Hockey games when players fight everyone is standing,
cheering, and they probably have their phone out recording. The Directors for Slapshot and Goon
both incorporated the violence of hockey with the use of things like old time hockey and
enforcers in their films. Although some people would argue that Slapshot is a better and different
movie from Goon, these movies are similar because of their use of old time hockey, violence,
vulgarity, and a final game or battle in each movie. Moreover, these two movies both incorporate
violence through the use of old time hockey, which means to playa really physical game with
checks along the boards, slapshots, fights, and brutality while giving it all on the ice. In the film
Slapshot, they show old time hockey in every game, they shoot slapshots, they get physical along
the boards with checks, and they have full line brawls, where everyone on the ice grabs a guy on
the other team and starts fighting. In the film Goon, all the players are physical, but it follow a
more individual approach focusing on one Goon named

  • 2. Forced Migration Essay In the per modern era, human migration was a well known occurrence that was caused by either force or willingness of the people. When migration was constituted through force, it was understood to be through political or economical duress. For instance, political measures unveiling large tax reforms created unbearable cost of living standards for the poor to survive. Whereas, increased economic labour created through force, was established for the rich to reap the benefits from majority of the poor. In essence, this widened the gap of economic dualism by forcing majority of the lower class people into living standards well below the poverty levels. Evidently, this would cause cultures to revolt on their kings through revolutionary measures... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Before, King David gathered a surplus of wealth when in power to bring the Jewish culture into the Golden Age. With Solomon...the surplus accumulated...rapidly dissipated in ambitious building. (Asali p.53) through large fortifications and military armaments. At his old age, he placed a heavy tax burden on his people, and in turn they became largely bitter towards him. After his death, massive conflicts came before the people to eventually split Israel and Judah into separate kingdoms. In 800 B.C.E., two centuries later, the Assyrians conquered the north, and many of the Jews of Israel were deported (Ardito, Gambaro and Torrefranca p.42). Later, in 600 B.C.E., the kingdom of Judah was overthrown by the Babylons. In turn, this lead to their captivity as slaves; entering a new era of a nomadic culture spread across the western world. On the other hand, it was this captivity which strengthened their religious identity, and evidently propagated the largest monolithic deity known throughout the 21st century: Jesus Christ. Next, looking at the Han Dynasty, it lasted from 202 B.C.E. to 220 C.E. This time period was said to be the most prosperous; population growth of approximately 50 million, expansion to Korea, Vietnam, and Pakistan, and the establishment of the famous Silk Road. It was not until about 184 C.E that this dynasty was to break internally through political and economical reasons ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 4. Being A Bartender Research Paper Bartending is a highly competitive career between young and old adults. Many college student rely on being a bartender as their main source of income. In many ways, some might say I have the perfect job. I succeed to work in an upbeat atmosphere, meet new people, and sample some treasured spirits. Most of the time you can find me laughing with guests while mixing their favorite cocktails on the menu. I play host to their party and gatekeeper to their alcohol. • 7. The Three Periodic Trends There are 3 quasi trends which are boiling point, melting point, and density and 3 periodic trends which are atomic mass, high specific heat, and electronegativity. The trends that are periodic increase or decrease as they go up or down the group or period. The quasi trends have regular and irregular trends which in one group it could increase or decrease and have a another group that has an irregular trend that in a group can increase and decrease. In the first place, high specific heat, electronegativity, and atomic mass are both periodic trends because no matter if go down or up a group or period the numbers will show a trend. The atomic mass is the weight of the atom in mass. Electronegativity is when two atom share electrons and high specific heat is an amount of heat needed to change the temperature of one gram of a substance. For example in atomic mass, going down the noble gas group shows that it is going from the lowest atomic mass to the highest atomic mass of that group. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I agree that the clock will lose time at the higher altitude. The acceleration due to gravity decreases which means the frequency will decrease which means the angular frequency will decrease resulting in a loss of time. As the clock is moved further from the center of the earth, it loses time. This is because the acceleration from gravity decreases more and more as higher altitudes are reached. This decrease in the acceleration due to gravity leads us to believe that the frequency and the angular frequency decrease as well which all relate to one other and cause time to be lost. The clock would lose time because as the value of g decreases, the period increases. When the clock is moved away from sea level gravity would slightly decrease causing the clock to lose time. • 10. Big Fish Reflection Edward Bloom was a story teller. He would tell elaborate stories to his son since he was born. Not only were the stories exciting, they were told to bring life and excitement into Edwards life. Growing up, William enjoyed his father s stories. As time goes on, the stories began to become more and more uneventful and less entertaining. This was because William has heard the same stories his whole life. He did not know what was true and what was fake. On his death bed, Edward reconnects with William by getting him to see that he was not lying his whole life, just telling his life story in a much more interesting way. Yes, some details were changed but that does not mean they were all lies. William just did not see that until the end. Big fish tells a story of adventure, love, life and death. Edward loved his family most of all. He let you know many time throughout the film. What stuck out the most to me was when he finished remodeling Jennifer s house. Jen came on to him. The love he had for his wife truly showed through when he rejected her affection. This shows, how that the head of the family loves more than anything: his wife and only son (Vega). At a young age, Will didn t have the relationship with his father that he wanted. This was because Edward was often gone for periods of time, traveling and working. Upon Edwards return, he would tell Will stories of his travels and adventures. To this end, William was not able to tell if his dads stories were true or not. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Sigonella, Italy is the hub for all Navy Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) diving operations. At that time, I was a member of the United States Naval Reserves; I served as an Explosive Ordnance Disposal Diver. I was deployed to Sigonella from November 2001 September 2002. There, part of my duties included my service as an EOD diving supervisor. A diving supervisor has the responsibility for protecting all divers, including their safety in the water, transporting them to a call for service or operation, and evaluating, creating, and when necessary, implementing emergency action plans. Upon arrival in Sigonella, I was reviewing the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Due to the location of the military installation, divers are usually transported to the ocean by boat, to a dive location usually 30 90 minutes away. If a diver was stricken, a helicopter was supposed to transport the rescue team, who, once arrived would swim 50 100 yards to the diver, placing him in a rescue stretcher, and towing him back to the boat. This process alone could take approximately 30 minutes. The helicopter transporting the rescue team meanwhile would hover overhead. In turn the rescue diver and stricken diver, are at risk because the rescue diver is attempting to swim with rescue stretcher in tow through rough waters. Assuming they are both able to get onto the boat safely, the rotor wash is still endangering not only the victim and rescue crew, but everyone on the boat as well, because the rough water could cause the boat to capsize. Under these conditions the stretcher could not be safely lifted to the helicopter. If the boat did not capsize, it would transport the crew back to base 30 90 minutes away, prolonging the wait time before the diver could receive medical attention. Under that policy the rescue process could take anywhere from 90 minutes to 3 hours, depending on how far they were from base, to get the stricken diver medical attention there. Time is critical, especially if the stricken diver experiences a medical emergency like a heart ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 12. Analysis Of The Movie Casablanca Intro Casablanca, first released on January 23rd, 1943 is undoubtedly one of the masterpieces of Classical Hollywood film. Written and released in the midst of World War Two it explores themes such as love, desire and especially sacrifice. Although the love story of the protagonists is the cause and catalyst for most of the narrative, one would not necessarily associate it with the conventional Classical Hollywood love story. Rather as a fabula based on the principle of the importance of sacrifice in order to overcome a common enemy, in this case the Nazis. Casablanca does indeed contain many of the common characteristics identified with the Classical Hollywood film. An example being the the way director, Michael Curtiz used a mainly chronologically ordered narrative structure and the utilisation of a Cause and Effect chain. In this essay I will looking at the various ways I believe this film does fall into the criteria of a Classical Hollywood narrative and also how some could perceive that it does not. From the opening sequence one can establish that Casablanca obeys the elementary principles used in the Classical Hollywood narrative structure. In the initial minutes of the film the audience is introduced via a voice over of the various political happenings prior to the films start such as Hitler s occupation of Europe and the surge of refugees who fled the Nazi s to Casablanca. The use of narration presents the audience with a simple introduction which the rest of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 13. Smart Grids Technologies Can Be Put Into Four Functional... Generally, smart grids technologies can be put into four functional categories: Information collectors; information assemblers, displayers, and assessors; information based controllers and energy resources. Smart grids collected data from various types of sensors. These sensors measure performance related characteristics of electricity system components. Assessors are used to analysis and display the information they received from the devices. The information based controllers devices will use the information that they received to control the other devices behavior to achieve the goal. Energy or power resources include the technologies that can used to generate, store, or reduce demand for electricity. • 14. Boeing V Airbus Boeing versus Airbus 1. Do you believe Airbus could have become a viable competitor without subsidies? Given the competitive dynamics in the commercial aircraft industry, it is not likely that Airbus could have become a viable competitor without subsidies. These dynamics include investment costs in the billions for research and development of a new airliner, long break even times, significant experience curve on the manufacturing side, and the highly volatile demand for aircraft. Due to a lack of market share, if Airbus entered the market without this support they would have suffered many years of losses resulting in a possible bankruptcy. There are several reasons why the US industry acted with caution. First of all, positive trade agreements were already in place from the 1992 trade agreement. The industry probably thought it should wait longer to ensure things worked out on their own before allowing politicians to intervene and make changes. If politicians had caused things to go south, which they inevitably do, these agreements would have been jeopardized. Secondly, the industry was practicing risk management. A lack of caution could have created a mess as the economy was taking a turn for the worse. Lastly, reopening old wounds could have caused Europe to pull out of many deals with the US, further disrupting international relations. The US weighed the odds and very quietly backed out, as they should have. 6. It is a huge adrenaline rush and about 11 million people in the United States hunt the famous whitetail deer (Bestul). However, fewer people are able to hunt because glyphosate has caused the deer population to severely decline. The issue arose in 1996 when Monsanto released Roundup Ready crop varieties, which can withstand the application of Roundup herbicide and pesticide (Waldman 42). Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... An article written by Peter Waldman reveals that traces of glyphosate have been detected in cookies, crackers, chips, breakfast cereals, and honey, and in human urine and breast milk (42). This highlights the evidence that no matter where you live, you are ingesting glyphosate. At the same time, this quote is informing people that there are no regulations on glyphosate remnants in food. Also, in Montana a wildlife rehabilitator, Judy Hoy, found that glyphosate precipitated mineral deficiencies and thyroid hormone disruption in whitetail deer, leading to the population decline over the past several years (Whittington). With this evident one can see that production agriculture is harming our native wildlife. Meanwhile, Argentina agriculturists are experiencing the obstacle of glyphosate tolerant weeds, known as superweeds, as well as volunteer genetically engineered crops that pop up and are resistant to glyphosate. These issues have caused farmers to apply twice as much herbicide on the crops to remove the contagions (Gordon 154). This crisis shows that glyphosate is not always a surefire way to remove weeds and farmers have to use more chemical to get the desired effect. Thus, the extra chemical further pollutes nearby water and the soil causing more damage to the environment. Likewise, the United Kingdom is encountering identical problems, on top of other serious troubles. An editorial by Jeffrey Smith shines a light on the issue that when an insect, such ... • 16. Pros And Cons Of Globalization In Chindia Is Chindia a friend or a threat We have spent a semester studying the effects of globalization on the world and business from currency exchange to trade policy. Through our discussions and readings, we have learned that globalization is a boon to business as much as it is a curse. In business, strategic alliance agreements help companies further develop process, foster market expansion and surpass competitiors. Although they both exist within the context of society, government and business are two separate entities which share a few features. Governments at even the most basic level exist to protect their citizens interests and to ensure that their needs are being met. While, business can protect the interests of a group or country, their primary reason for existence is to turn profits to satiate their shareholders and validate those who work daily to provide the good/service. However, in order to provide adequately for their citizenry, governments are compelled to think and act a bit more like businesses to ensure that their citizens remain content. India and China are two examples of countries which at least in some areas of federal policy are thinking like businesses and as such has formed, Chindia, what would be called a strategic alliance in business. In 2006, bilateral trade between the two countries reached almost 20 billion dollars and revenue has only increased in recent years (Economist). At first glance it seems that India and China are nearly equally matched; ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 17. Theme Of Redemption In Gran Torino GRAN TORINO Identify critical moments in the film Gran Torino where Walt Kowalski is transformed from a racist tormented character to a compassionate father figure. Gran Torino is a film directed by Clint Eastwood, with Eastwood who is also taking on the key role as the main character and protagonist; Walt Kowalski. Eastwood plays a retired auto worker and Korean War veteran who feels emptiness in his life. His character is happiest on his home porch, beer in hand, dog his only ally, his lawn immaculate, despising the many Asian, Latino and black families in his neighborhood. However, the redemption of such a character is critical to the storyline as Walt becomes a reluctant hero, standing up to gang members who have totally unsettled his lifestyle; an attempted theft of his prized possession, a 1972 Gran Torino, sets Walt on a mission to rectify things for himself and his Hmong neighbors. Eastwood uses symbolism and cinemograph techniques to exemplify the theme of redemption. The most notable moment when Walt becomes a father figure, is when he confronts the gang at their house, just after sue was raped and beaten. The film explores the possibility of redemption, second chances , and the hope that comes from having a positive future. Both Walt and Thao experience redemption in the film. Walt is saved from the guilt of a murderous past as a soldier and the disappointment of broken relationships within his own immediate family. Ultimately, Walt finds peace with himself, with others and with God. Walt s young neighbour, Thao is rescued from a future of crime and violence, and the shame of attempted theft. Ultimately, Thao gains a future as a hard working, respectable American citizen and man. It is evident from the beginning of the movie that Walt has a hard line attitude towards the church, which is partly because of the pain and torment he experienced from Korea. Walt exhibits strong racial slurs as he had strong racial prejudices, also mainly because of the 50 s style of thinking he has and likewise from the time in Korea, as this is how they talked about them. It is symbolic as he still thought and spoke like that back after the war, showing the audience that he is still at war, not with the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

When President Abraham Lincoln addressed the nation in his Gettysburg address he expressed the bloodshed from the civil war would bring about a new birth of freedom for the American people and nation. During the 19th century and in the aftermath of the civil war, white southerners engaged in a ruthless and never ending cycle of violence against African Americans. The white southerners engaged in violence over whether or not, after slavery African Americans would get full benefits of citizenships. The terror that was inflicted by whites onto African Americans resulted in 4,743 of African Americans being tortured, and lynched between the years of 1882 1968. Lynching has become the most disturbing and lawless act in American history. Many scholars and leaders have debated over the reasoning of such violent acts such as lynching during this time period. In the Ida B wells book The Red Record she explains that lynching wasn t just about accused crimes of the African Americanman, but the lynching of African American men in the community who were Black people who were educated or business men. She concludes this by examining the different excuses the whites gave regarding the reasoning behind the massive lynching throughout the year. If current trends continue, in the future one can imagine a world in which humans all share a single universal language. Ana Lucia Gonzalez, reporter for BBC, wrote the article, Life in Spanglish for California s Young Latinos to address this issue of blending language. However, it may come as a surprise that English would be the one to dominate, given that Mandarin Chinese is spoken by the largest population in the world. PhD in Nanostructures for Enhanced Solar Conversion Research Proposal Abstract The possibilities of employing a nanoscale metal topography that will employ surface plasmon excitation phenomena towards improving the light absorption efficiency of organic solar cells will be investigated. This goal is achievable by analytically designing and producing optically active nanostructures which are used to excite surface plasmons at the wavelengths range dictated by the sun in order to support the confinement of light beyond the diffraction limit, thus leading to high weighted enhancements over a wider range of the solar spectrum. This can be achieved by employing nanostructured materials with unique properties tailored for the materials characteristics of II VI nanorod systems across the solar spectrum capable of creating significant enhancements while preventing unwanted thermal losses. Also external quantum efficiency measurements on the nanostructured cells will be made, this is expected to demonstrate a substantial photon absorption enhancement across the solar spectrum. Finally, key insights into light absorption and trapping mechanisms in these plasmon enhanced cells through a combination of three dimensional finite difference time domain simulations, optical absorption, and external quantum efficiency measurements will be obtained Introduction The increasing population of the world is making demands on the availability of energy supply and research has ... While they only occupy a very small percentage of land area, wetlands can be located all over the planet, ranging from near the northern and southern poles all the way to the tropics. Many biological, chemical and physical properties of wetlands allow them to provide various functions to surrounding ecosystems, and humans have found personal value from several of these ecological functions. Unfortunately, a history of exploitation of wetlandservices has led to their destruction and degradation. The loss of wetland area has consequences for many aspects of the environment that are tied closely with the functions of wetlands. However, the values of wetlands are now being recognized worldwide, and have led to the installment and enforcement of wetland conservation, protection laws, regulations, and management plans [Mitsch and Gosselink, 2007]. Wetlands can be found in all climate zones, ranging from the tropics to the tundra, while only occupying 4 6 percent of the earth s land area [Mitra et al., 2005]. Adolf Hitler took over Germany; at first he was appointed as chancellor but the Germans let him get away with taking over as dictator (Truemen , 2013). It was out of fear that the Germans let him be in power. Jack, much like Hitler, gains control by instilling fear into the others and takes over as leader. Throughout the whole book Golding continues to use Jack to twist the story. Once again Jack displays himself as the id when he is trying to lure the others away from Ralph so he can egotistically become in control of the group to get what he wants. In literature, and more specifically Peace Like a River, imagination is introduced into the novel through an exceptional movement, known as Romanticism. Romanticism revolved around a new form of writing resulting in a major shift between faith in the matter and faith in the senses, and mainly pertains to the individual, intuition, and imagination.
