The Pros And Cons Of Erga Omnes
In the international law, believed that as cooperation between state like entities most probably started
with simple trade agreements. These agreements were usually concluded on a bilateral level and
defined the relationship between two states. The idea of an international community only appeared
much later and its first indications can be traced back to the 17th century with the famous peace
treaties of Westphalia, when states stroke for a balance of power. However, only in the 19th century
states began to develop international treaties in which general rules were laid out such as the
Declaration of Paris regarding the freedom of the sea (1856) or the General Act of the Brussels
Conference in 1890 that established an International Maritime ... Show more content on

Erga omnes and erga omnes partes norms were very precisely defined by the Institute de Droit

breach of that obligation enables all States to take action; or

Argumentative Essay On Forbidden Love
Forbidden Love
The Iranian government sees trans and homosexual individuals as people with psychosexual problems,
and so provide them with a medical solution (Neha Thirani Bagri, An Uncomfortable Truth, qz).
People around the world do not get the rights they deserve because the government influences and
limits people s actions. Nobody should be living in fear, feel held back, or discriminated against
because of their sex, race, religion or sexual orientation. Everyone should be given the right of
protection, be treated with respect, and not have to live in fear because of who they are. Sahar is a
young impressionable girl living in the country of Iran. Sahar is put in tough situations because of
prejudice people and their beliefs. Iran ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Constantly living in fear is not the right way to live. Sahar explains how they ¨Were always so careful,
we hear a knock at the door and the two of us jump away from each other.¨(Farizan 14) Under the
circumstances Sahar and Nasrin have to make sure they do not accidentally share their secret. Even
their own families can turn them into the police. The laws of Iran make Shahar go through
unnecessary challenges and she is forced to make life changing decisions.
While Sahar is changing from a girl to a women she begins to notice what limitations there are on
herself. Beginning to notice she needs to stand up for herself, Sahar wants to retaliate against her
country. Sahar begins to rant about how The country is flourishing under control of Shah. I m not sure
how much I believe that (Farizan 13). Sahar believes the country is deteriorating under the control of
their new leader. Sahar wants to be a free woman and be able to have basic human rights. Having the
sex changing surgery will prove that she can defy the government s rules. Conflicted with wanting to
be with her love and loving herself, Sahar exclaims It s my body my life, and my love and will do with
all of it what I can (Farizan 105). She wants to defy the government with the loop whole of the surgery
but in reality she does not want to become a man. She yells this to her cousin because she wants to tell
him that it is her decision and only her decision.

The Epidemic Of Child Obesity
Over the past decade there has been an epidemic on the rise. This epidemic is child obesity. We spend
millions of dollars each year trying to help or prevent the onset of obesity. Some of the reasons are due
to our youth consuming more processed foods and not being physically active. However, we as a
society cannot just blame the laziness and not eating the correct types of foods as the cause for obesity.
This problem is more complex than people think and we can fix it, but we do need government
cooperation. There are many causes of obesity some of which are poverty, food insecurity, parenting,
and physical activity. The United States has the highest amount of people below the poverty line in its
history. Since these people make below $20,000 dollars a year, their only way of feeding themselves is
buying the cheapest food. The cheapest food in a food market is almost always processed food. These
types of foods do not have the best nutrient content. Eating these types of foods more frequently can
increase a person s risk of becoming obese. One of the many reasons people consume processed foods
is because they are very cheap The relative price of fresh fruits and vegetables it s gone up by 40%
since 1980 when the obesity epidemic first began. In contrast, the relative price of processed foods has
gone down by about 40% (A Place at the Table). Since processed foods are cheap, people under the
poverty line will mostly buy these types of foods. Sometimes people under the

Laboratory Of Neural Systems, Decision Science, Learning...
Laboratory of Neural Systems, Decision Science, Learning and Memory (NSDSLM), also known as
the Mizumori lab, seeks to understand the plasticity mechanisms within neural systems that underlie
normal and pathological mnemonic functions. The principal investigator of this lab, and my primary
research mentor is Dr. Sheri Mizumori. Upon joining the Mizumori lab, I have been shadowing Dr.
Phillip Baker on his postdoctoral research project. He introduced me to laboratory research study and
facilitated in the progressive improvement of my comprehension in basic neuroscience research.
The initial study that I began working on with Dr. Baker was about lateral habenula s (LHb)
involvement in behavior switching when presented with a cue. The LHb is a structure identified for its
role in signaling negative outcomes or cues (Bomberg Martin et al, 2011; Proulex et al, 2014). It
projects to dopaminergic, serotoninergic, and norepinephrine systems that are acknowledged to be
important when switches in behavior are required (Robbins and Arnsten, 2009; Lecourtier and Kelly,
2007). My responsibilities in this study mainly included handling and training rats, recording of rat
behaviors through a series of sensors and robotic doors around the T maze controlled by z basic, and
evaluating data from training and testing rats in a tonal task. I also had an opportunity to contribute to
the paper in accordance with my responsibilities. Furthermore, I had a chance to partake in the

Border Corridos And Badman Ballads
Border corridos and Badman Ballads contain different style and techniques, however were shaped by
similar social and cultural factors in history, such as interethnic conflict and discrimination. Border
corridos and Badman Ballads each emerged from the oppression of a certain ethnic group, however
each has its own history. Border corridos revolve around the Texas Mexico border and illustrate the
effects of the The Mexican American War. During the Mexican American War, Mexico lost the battle
and the state of Texas, which made the Rio Grande the national border. As a result, Mexicans who
lived on the other side of the river had to decide between America and Mexico. The people who chose
to stay in America became Tejanos (Texan American) (Davis, Lecture) and their culture, language, and
property were respected due to the signing of the Treaty of Guadalupe (Flores, 167). However as
Anglo American settlers moved into Mexican territory, a land grab was institutionalized, which sold
most of Mexicans lands for cheap prices, due to the Mexican population s unawareness. Not only that,
but Texas officers known as Texas Rangers discriminated and violently treated ethnic Mexicans
(Davis, Lecture). The border corridors reflect the interethnic conflict between whites and Tejanos and
portray the injustice during those times. Similarly, Badman Ballads portrays the oppression of one
ethnic groups towards another. This ballad illustrates blacks discriminated by whites during the

The Key Role Of Muscles In The Human Body
The spinal column, and muscles around it play a key role in our lives. Most of our structural support in
our back comes from structures called vertebrae. In total the human has 33 vertebrae. The bodies of
the vertebrae rest on intervertebral discs. These discs have a ring of fibrocartilage called annulus
fibrosus with a substance in the center called pulposus. These tissues provide flexibility within the
spinal column. The spinal cord runs through the vertebral foramen of each vertebrae. Some vertebrae
have spinous processes that are located on the posterior of the structures. Within the vertebral foramen
there is fat, areolar connective tissue, and blood vessels. These tissues provide cushioning for the
spinal cord which is a vital part of our survival. The vertebrae can vary in shape and ... Show more

The rotatores are located on the spinous processes of the vertebrae superior to the one of the origin. Its
purpose is to extend the vertebral column and to rotate the column from side to side by contracting the
opposite muscle (Tortora Derrickson, 377). The multifidus is on the laminae of the vertebrae and then
connects to the spinous processes of two to three vertebrae above it s origin ( Transversospinalis
Multifidus. ) This continues all of the way down the spinal column. Its main function is to extend the
column and laterally flex the column while rotating the head to the side by contracting opposite
muscles. The semispinalis thoracis is on the spinous process of the superior four vertebrae and the last
two cervical vertebrae. The semispinalis cervicis, on the other hand, is on the spinous processes of the
first and fifth cervical vertebrae. The purpose of these two muscles is similar to the others. They too
extend the column in their respective regions along with rotating the head to the opposite side of the

Aspergers Syndrome Essay
Asperger s Syndrome In today s society, Asperger s Syndrome is being talked about, and seen, more
than ever, from television shows, such as Parenthood, to magazine articles, and of course in the
inclusive classroom. Throughout this paper we will be looking at where Asperger s Syndrome
originated, some of the characteristics and causes, as well as ways in which teachers and parents can
better deal with a child that has Asperger s Syndrome. Asperger s Syndrome is found under Autistic
Spectrum Disorders which has certain determined types of developmental delays such as social
interaction, communication, and stereotypic behavior. Under ASD you will also find disorders such as
Rett s Disorder, Childhood Disintegration Disorder, and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The difference for Asperger s parents is that they tend not the expert on their child, making the child
the expert on themselves in order to reach some semblance of attunement with him and to maintain
equilibrium (Gould, K., Fantasy Play as the Conduit for Change in the Treatment of a Six Year Old
Boy With Asperger s Syndrome). In an article by Katherine Gould, she believes that children with
Asperger s have the desire to attach, but are unable to because their mothers were unable to relieve
distress and restore a desired affective state through soothing, so the child is motivated to soothe their
self. Not being able to soothe your child can lead to attachment problems for both parent and child.
Children who are unable to attach, end up being unregulated, impulse ridden, angry, and powerless,
making it virtually impossible to function correctly in the social world. Another problem parents face
with Asperger s is misdiagnoses. With easier access to information assisted by the Internet, not
infrequently a parent will simply inform the clinician that their child fits all essential criteria of the
disorder, and that they are just seeking an official validation of the diagnosis (Stiefel, I., Shields, A. K.,
Swain, M. A., amp; Innes, W. R., Asperger s Coming Out of Our Ears: Making Sense of a Modern
Epidemic). Being

Francisco de Goya y Lucientes was conceived on March 30, 1746, in Fuendetodos, a town in northern
Spain. The child of a guilder, Goya spent the vast majority of his childhood in Saragossa. There he
started considering painting around the age of fourteen. He was an understudy of José Luzán

with the idea of isolating himself, he bought a country house by the Manzanares river just outside of
Madrid. It was known as the Quinta del titled after the previous owner and not after Goya himself.
There he created the Black Paintings with intense, haunting themes, reflective of the artist s fear of
insanity, and his outlook on humanity. Several of these, including Saturn Devouring His Son, were
painted directly onto the walls of his dining and sitting rooms. Goya left Spain in May 1824 for

John Milton Cage Influence On Society
The classical period was a revolutionary start of music for decades to come. Many composers prior to
the 1920s gained their fame and fortune through music and their creativity in composing. John Milton
Cage, Jr. was born in Los Angeles on September 5th in 1912. Cage was the son of John Milton Cage,
Sr., an inventor, hence the creativeness yet to come through his music. In 1928, Cage graduated from
Los Angles High School with the intent to pursue a degree in writing. Cage studied about two years at
Pamona College, travelled Europe for around eighteen months, and then resumed school at UCLA. He

Cage began experimenting with music by placing screws and plates between the strings of a piano to
generate different sounds, known as the prepared piano . He also experimented with tape recorders,
record players, and radios, finding the music around him in the simplest objects, otherwise not
considered instruments by the typical composer or musician. After realizing his makeshift instruments
were not what he needed, he began brainstorming ideas for new instruments. Pieces such as Imaginary
Landscape No. 4 and Water Music were just a few examples of his creativity in music. For Imaginary
Landscape No. 4 Cage used twelve radios played at once to create this composition. Water Music was
created by combining shells and water to form a masterpiece. Cage used unimaginable items such as
kitchen gadgets, metal sheets, various common objects, and even silence to create a discovery no other
composer had considered before. Through his music, he turned the everyday sounds we hear into
something so much more. He performed with his percussion ensemble in New York at the Museum of

The Spiritual Practice Of Sabbath
My life is full of habits. And a lot of them. Some of them are really good habits, but, unfortunately,
some of them are really bad. One of the bad habits I ve become accustomed to over the years is
working myself to my breakpoint and not taking a chance to breathe. More than that I tend to keep
busy way more often than I should be some simply over just trivial things. That is why I decided to
choose the spiritual practice of Sabbath where I took one 24 hour period in my week and dedicated it
to simply rest and rejuvenate and nothing more. Now by rest, I don t necessarily mean sleep, a lot of
times it was just doing what brings me pleasure and replenishes me instead of exhausting myself, or
giving to me, instead of taking from me.
Although I have heard people talking about the Sabbath growing up multiple times, I have never heard
it phrased like it was in this class: as a spiritual formative practice. To my dismay, that was all it has
been until this class. My extent of knowledge about Sabbath had only came from some of what I ve
read about it in the Bible. That was when the Jews practiced Sabbath as commanded under the Mosaic
Law, given to them when they were in the wilderness. Exodus 20:8 10 shares, Remember the Sabbath
day, to keep it holy. Six days you shall labor, and do all your work, but the seventh day is a Sabbath to
the LORD your God. The Jews were allowed to do no work on this day, marked as Friday evening
until Saturday evening on the Jewish calendar.

Human Control Project Analysis
Today, numerous individuals are persuaded that the end of the dark wolf was a blunder, as well as a
drawback to the personal satisfaction in this nation. There has been an open objection to redress the
circumstance made by the lack of awareness of our progenitors. Then again, in trying to address a
circumstance made by the human impulse to control nature, it is significant to recognize the amount of
human impedance is fundamental. Human control must be tempered by an appreciation and
restriction. Projects intended for the insurance and rebuilding of untamed life must reflect respect for
the normal request instead of predominance over it. The outcomes of human activities including the
disposal of the dim wolf have been particularly intense in Yellowstone National Park, where the
absence of a characteristic predator has brought about the overpopulation of buffalo, deer, and elk. As
indicated by Sharon Begley of Newsweek magazine, Missing a characteristic predator, a great many
the ungulates have starved amid intense winters, and there has been no determination weight to keep
deer quick and moose effective . Another issue is more inconspicuous. As Ms. Begley ... Show more

attempt to return home. The main answer for this quandary is to pen the creatures up for a time frame
until they get used to their new environment. Tragically, at whatever point wolves are penned, there is
a threat that they will lose some of their ferocity. Be that as it may, such measures have as of now been
fundamental on account of one of the wolf families in Yellowstone. Taking after the illicit slaughtering

The Apology By Bernard Of Clairvaux
Luxury played an immense role in medieval Catholicism by taking the focus from God and placing it
on the acquisition of riches and glory, which is shown by these sources: The Apology by Bernard of
Clairvaux, The Book of Suger by The Abbot Suger and Guilty Pleasures: Luxury in the Middle Ages.
These sources demonstrate the exorbitant manner that the churches and monasteries were being built
in during that time. This not only drew attention away from the real reason for these buildings, but
also was a form of idolatry for these monks, despite the honest intentions of some of them, including
the Abbot Suger. Each source lends different insight into the corruption of the church during this
medieval period. Apology by Bernard of Clairvaux ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In short, so many and so marvelous are the various shapes surrounding us that it is more pleasant to
read the marble tanthe books, and to spend the whole day marveling over these things rather than
meditating on the law of God 1 Bernard realized that despite their best efforts, the monks of Cluny
could not help but be distracted from God by the riches. Therefore, he tries to bring this to attention in
his writing. Another criticism that Bernard brings up in his writing is the integration of the Cluniac
monks into society. He mentions that the Cluniac monks are using luxury for the acquisition of more
riches, as well as for the attraction of more wealthy benefactors. He asks the Cluniac monks what they
are expecting to receive for their efforts, Admiration from the foolish? Offering from the ignorant? Or
scattered as we are among the gentiles, are we learning their tricks and serving their idols? 1 Bernard
brings up a good point, which is that the Cluniac monks are becoming too worldly. They are becoming
too focused on the contributions that they will receive from the world, in order to decorate their
churches and monasteries. They are forgetting that they became monks to leave the world behind. The
Abbot of Suger has a very contradictory view towards the luxury, which he expounds upon in The
Book of Suger. He states the reasoning for the beginning of the luxury that was lavished upon the
buildings. In the twenty third year of

Stereotypes In Billy Elliot
In the film Billy Elliot directed by Stephen Daldry, Michael is a thought provoking character because
he is portrayed as both gay and a cross dresser. With the film being set during the 1984 1985 coal

grey area in between area for people like Michael.

Along with the struggles of growing up in a community where he doesn t fit the expected norm for
male behaviour, Michael has an alcoholic and abusive father who believes heavily in the gender
stereotypes perpetuated throughout the film and disapproves heavily of Michael s behaviour. All this
strain on Michael makes it hard for him to have a normal childhood as he struggles with the
challenges of growing up in a community where you don t fit the mold of what a man should be like.
This is shown in the scene when he and Billy are wearing tutus and dancing in the boxing hall and get
caught by two angry parents who then proceed to call them both poofs and sissies for dancing
together. Michael is also seen at the end of the film to have his male partner sitting next to him. This
relates to the audience because at some point in their life everyone feels like they don t fit in with the
majority of their community, whether it is a small difference or a large one people are all unique but
sometimes can feel like they are the only one fighting against the world. In Michael s case he has to
grow up hiding his true self and not being able to express his feelings as the community he lives in is
heavily embedded in traditional gender roles and stereotypes and does not accept people who don t fit
within the black and white

As for Gibbons and Vanderbilt, the two lowered their rates, applied services, and also tried out new

Gibbons to increase his own business.
Vanderbilt created his own steamship company. With a fleet of boats and a budget of $30,000 or
roughly $775,000 today, Vanderbilt successfully established a company along the Hudson River. He
used his usual tactic, reduced fare prices, to stir away any competitors. He then expanded between
New York and New England and Long Island. What helped his business to flourish was through
customer s loyalty. Because Vanderbilt was known to have reliable, safe and cheap steamboats,
Cornelius Vanderbilt s company skyrocketed. In 1830, Vanderbilt entered the Hudson River market
and competed against Steamboat Association. Due to Vanderbilt s success, Steamboat Association
purchased his Hudson River company for $150,000 in total. Because of the success he had, Vanderbilt

Electron Affinity And Ionization Energy
Recently in class we have discovered the meaning of electron affinity and ionization energy. We know
that ionization energy is the energy required to be absorbed when an ionic bond removes an electron
from an atom. We also know that electron affinity is how easily an atom will accept an electron into its
shells when trying to make itself neutral. This means that both of these terms play a big role when an
atom loses or gains an electron.
The ionization energy is the energy to remove an electron from an atom. A trend for ionization energy
is that it generally increases left to right across a row on the periodic table except for the noble gases
which have closed shells. For example, lithium requires only 520 kJ/mol to ionize it while helium, the
noble gas right next to it in the periodic table, requires 2372 kJ/mol. The ionization energy can be
thought of as opposite to the electronegativity of an element in the way that a low ionization energy
gives away that an element easily loses electrons to a reaction, while a high electronegativity shows
that an element strongly wants to have electrons in a reaction.
The electron affinity is an amount of energy that changes when ... Show more content on

atom. This tells us that since energy is released, the electron affinities will be negative. Another
example of the differences between electron affinity and ionization energy is that ionization energy is
related with making cations from neutral atoms due to the fact that it measures the amount of energy
needed to remove an electron. In contrast, electron affinity is related with making anions due to the
fact that it is the amount of energy that changes when a negative ion is formed from an electron being
added. These are two big example of how electron affinity and ionization energy are

the family all about its great powers and how it can grant you 3 wishes. Morris had already had its

He waited until he could no longer hear the old man s heartbeat before righting the bed. He then
concealed the body beneath the floorboards and thought that no sign of the murder remained. It seems
that a neighbor heard the scream of the old man and alerted the police. Several officers arrived at the
house. The narrator, feeling secure that his crime was perfect and undetectable, invited them in to
question him. As they spoke, the narrator heard the old man s heart beating beneath the floorboards,
faint at first but then growing louder. He thought that the police must also hear this and that they were
merely ignoring it to mock him. Eventually, the sound and the policemen s reactions drove the
narrator to jump to his feet and confess that he had, indeed, killed the old man and the body was
hidden beneath the floor. reader that he is nervous, but in no way mad. The narrator begins to calmly
tell a whole story of how he kills an old man that he loves and takes care of for no reason other than
the old man s one dreadful blue eye. Every night at midnight, he opens the old man s bedroom door
and shines just a thin ray of light onto the Evil Eye. He explains that he cannot kill the man with his
eye closed, so nighttime continues to pass and in the morning he acts completely normal with the poor

The Black Of Black Arts Movement Essay
The Black Arts Movement was considered to be the artistic part of the Black Power Movement when
it was formed in the 1960s and lasted until mid 1970s. It featured several Black writers, poets,
playwrights, artists, and musicians, who sought to explore the essence of black identity , commonly
referred to as the Black Aesthetic. The Black aesthetic was both a cultural and artistic ideology that
was developed from many Black Americans who desired self determination and separation from the
white community. Several of the artists who contributed to the Black Arts Movement included, but is
not limited to, Leroi Jones, also known as Amiri Baraka, Larry Neal, Nikki Giovanni, and Sonia
Sanchez. They sought to create art that spoke directly to the issues, needs, aspirations and
sociopolitical rights of Black Americans. Overall, this movement is one of the most influential
movements in regards to Black literature and music because it inspired Black people to write and led
to the creation of theaters, journals, magazines, and art institutions. The Black Arts Movement was
also said to be the spiritual sister of the Black Power Movement, but although the movement claimed
to be the sister of the Black Power Movement, it was sexist, racially exclusive and was in no way
feminine of supportive of its Black women.
Leroi Jones, also known as Amiri Baraka, founded the Black Arts Movement in Harlem, New York in
1965. The movement was officially established in 1965 when Baraka launched the

Final Tax Return
When a person dies, filing final tax returns becomes mandatory for the executor of the estate. The
executor must file a final federal income tax return and a final state income tax return (if required)
reporting all income earned by the decedent in the final year of life up until the day of death.
Furthermore, even if the executor hires a tax professional to file the final tax returns, the executor
must know how to prepare the information needed by the tax professional. Otherwise, the tax
professional will charge the estate a substantial amount to handle the preparation as well as the filing
of the final tax returns.
How to Prepare the Final Tax Returns
As explained in the article Track the Estate Income, income earned by the decedent in the final year of
life up until the day of death requires reporting on the final tax returns. In addition, since most 1099 s
will report income earned for the entire year, the executor needs to be aware that the 1099 s need
adjustment. Therefore, the following steps are necessary for the executor to prepare the final tax
returns accurately:

Essay about An Inspector Calls by J.B. Priestley
An Inspector Calls by J.B. Priestley The play An Inspector Calls was written in 1945, which was just
at the end of the Second World War. The play is set in 1912, just before the First World War. The play
was set at this particular time so that J.B. Priestley could get his message across more clearly. The
message was that we all have to take responsibility for our actions, which can have consequences.
Another reason why this may be a well made play is that J.B. Priestley gives hints to the audience at
the beginning, which builds up excitement and interest. The hints given are revealed slowly
throughout the play. Examples of the hints would be when Sheila comments about Gerald never
coming near her the previous ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Gradually, as the play progresses, the audience interest increases as more and more is revealed about
the family s involvement with Eva Smith. Firstly we learn that Mr. Birling has sacked Eva Smith from
his own factory because she asked for more pay. I think Mr. Birling couldn t care less about Eva, he
thought of the situation as strictly business. Well, it s my duty to keep labour costs down, and if I d
agreed to this demand for a new rate we d have added about twelve percent to our labour costs.
Secondly, Sheila got Eva Smith fired when jealousy arose with in her. This is when Sheila thought Eva
was laughing at her at how she looked in an item of clothing. Sheila thought Eva would look much
better in the dress than she would, so she complained to the manager and demanded she be fired;
because of how well known and of a high class she was the demand was met by the manager. At first
Sheila did not care or realise what she had done but after knowing Eva had died she felt very guilty.
Yes, that s it. And I know I m to blame and I m desperately sorry but I cant believe I wont believe it s
simply my fault that in the end she she committed suicide. That would be too horrible Thirdly, Gerald
was involved after having an affair with her and then ending the relationship after he had used her.
Gerald felt partly at fault, She

Yeast Fermentation Lab
For this experiment, a scientist will be determining whether or not yeast can ferment polysaccharides
as efficiently as disaccharides. The scientist believes yeast will not ferment polysaccharides as
efficiently as disaccharides because yeast is specifically used to ferment disaccharides such as sucrose
and maltose while bacteria ferment polysaccharides such as cellulose and glucose. The experiment
that the scientist will be conducting will show how the rate of yeast fermentation depends on the
enzymes the yeast possess to hydrolyze the disaccharides and polysaccharides.
The scientist began by researching what fermentation actually is. Fermentation is the breakdown of
various substances by yeast or bacteria. During the process of fermentation, sugars are converted into
organic acids or alcohol. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Similarly, maltose and cellulose are fermented by yeast through respiration of the yeast cells. The
process of fermentation is beneficial because it produces enzymes that are good for the human body,
Vitamin B, fatty acids such as Omega 3 and probiotics. Fermentation also helps with digestion
because it breaks down foods into a more digestible form (Wellness Mama).
Previous experiments conducted with yeast cells have revealed that the rate of fermentation is affected
by substrate concentration and enzyme concentration. However, this experiment will investigate the
effects of two different disaccharides and one polysaccharide on fermentation, while maintaining
constant substrate and enzyme concentrations.
The concentrations being used are maltose, cellulose, and sucrose. Maltose and sucrose are
disaccharides. Disaccharides are any class of sugars that are made up of two monosaccharides.
Sucrose is a component of cane sugar and maltose is the sugar created when starch is broken down.
Cellulose is a polysaccharide because it is a carbohydrate that has sugar molecules bonded

Masculinity In Okonkwo
From the beginning of Chinua Achebe s Things Fall Apart, we see that the main character of the
novel, Okonkwo, is a man of action, strength, and impulse. Okonkwo rarely thinks thing through and
hardly ever sees the consequences of his actions and how they can affect others. By exerting a heavy
hand on his wives and children, his authoritarian style of parenting shines through with the rays of
masculinity and dominance pouring into his household. Okonkwo lacks a solid father son relationship
with Nwoye because he is insufficient in his ability to control his fears of becoming his
underachieving and weak father. Let s be honest here, Okonkwo has a lot of Daddy problems. Every
conflict that occurs in the novel is driven by the fact that Okonkwo ... Show more content on

It is important however to note the difference and similarities between Ezinma, Ikemefuna, and
Nwoye. From the start, Nwoye is seen in his Okonkwo s eyes as a recreation of his father, which
angers Okonkwo greatly and is often the cause of his and Nwoye s extremely abusive relationship
Nwoye was then twelve years old but was already causing his father great anxiety for his incipient
laziness... (Achebe,13). The treatment that Okonkwo dishes out to Nwoye shapes him into the
character he is. Nwoye lacks a self confidence because he lives in fear of the consistent reprimands of
his father. Nwoye can never be the man Okonkwo wants him to be because Okonkwo never allows
Nwoye to the opportunity to prove himself without being beaten or harshly scorned. This ultimately
makes Nwoye the man Okonkwo was fearful of, thus proving again that Okonkwo s fear of weakness
leads the charge in the series of unfortunate events in the novel. Unlike Nwoye, Okonkwo genuinely
cares for daughter Ezinma because of her strong masculine qualities. I wish she were a boy , Okonkwo
thought within himself. She understood things so perfectly. Who else among his children could have
read his thoughts so well. (Achebe, 173). Okonkwo thinks of Ezinma as the son he never had as she is
a girl. This frustrates Okonkwo because he wants Ezinma to take on more roles of the family, but
because she is his daughter he must rely on Nwoye instead of

A Campaign Against Kfc
1) I personally do not support KFC Corporation or People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals in this
controversy. This is because I myself am not a fan of meat and do not like the taste personally, but I
also do not think it is all right by any means with what they do to the animals. I believe that they are
completely abusing these animals so carelessly and it is extreme animal cruelty. I feel like a majority
of other people would say it is perfectly fine though. This is because many people do like meat and
businesses are going to continue on harming the animals and receiving their meat and selling it to
make profit. People will always continue to buy it because places are providing it for them and they
like the taste and look past with ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
PETA is also trying their best to make a big deal out of this and draw as much attention as possible for
the animal s own rights and simply to raise awareness on the ongoing problem. I think PETA is
representing a truth with the business and they do have the right to make attacks to get them to make
the change.
6) I absolutely 100% believe that animals have rights because they are alive just like us human beings
are. Animals definitely have emotions and feelings just like we do and can also speak out lout but we
necessarily cannot always figure out what they are trying to portray. I believe since we are human
beings, we should be the ones to make sure animals are safe and can live without being harmed in the
wild or as pets, in other words that can be looked at as our duty.
From the reading of the case and how PETA portrayed KFC being cruel and not handling their
chickens respectfully, I do not think that they protect animal welfare at an acceptable level. They can
definitely make they changes that PETA stated about the business. Either way, many people are going
to have different perspectives about this and may think that what KFC is doing is completely fine
because they are making

The Overall Problem At Apple Inc.
The overall problem at Apple Inc. is a stagnant iPhone growth problem due to decreased innovation
and marketing efforts. Apple has hit a static point in its growth and continues to lose market share to
its global competitors while trying to recover and invent the next big product (Seeking Alpha, 2017).
Apple s innovation and marketing efforts have been minimal and thus reflect in the company s
declining global position, pricing and current growth statistics.
Apple Inc. has been stagnant over the past two years despite successful profits, a fast growing
dividend, and over $130 billion worth of share repurchases (Wall Street Journal, 2016). The staple
product, the Apple iPhone, accounts for over two thirds of Apple s revenue and profits and ... Show

Apple lost valuable market share to Chinese manufacturers Huawei and Oppo, which saw promising
increases in their shares year over year (9to5Mac, 2017). Currently, the iPhone market share is
decreasing in China, the world s second largest economy after the U.S., which can be attributed to new
manufacturers and iPhone users delaying upgrades (9to5Mac, 2017). While all products go through a
product life cycle, Apple has already been through this cycle with at least two products (Forbes, 2016).
Currently, Apple has no backup to replace its vanguard iPhone product. Adding to injury, the
competing Huawei P9 phone compares well against the iPhone 7 and cost 30 percent cheaper than the
iPhone (9to5Mac, 2017). In addition, cheaper android phones that offer everything the iPhone does
and sometimes more at fraction of the price are also gaining market share rapidly (9to5Mac, 2017).
PROMOTION For the first time in over a decade, Apple reported a yearly decline in quarterly
revenue. This can be attributed in part to Apple s recent lack in marketing efforts (Linkedin, 2016).
Apple s advertising efforts once challenged consumer behavior and thus drove sales. The agency
focused on portraying Apple s story in a meaningful and emotional way that connected with target
consumers. Efforts focused on telling a story through the product rather focusing on

Given this, the management team made the decision to undertake a review of the cash recovery
process itself with a view to developing a new strategy which would speed up cash collections.
The process review was commenced by management in September 2012. By January 2013 however it
became clear to the management team that although they had an idea of what they wanted to achieve,
and the issues they believed were preventing this, they were not equipped to complete the process
review themselves. At this time I was approached by them and retained as a consultant with a view to
not only completing a full process review and implementation, but also to ensure that the process put
in place was scalable for the increasing business they were expecting to take on over the coming 24
months.
It was clear from my analysis of the initial XXXXXXXXXXXXX process design (what little of it
their was) that little thought or analysis was carried out into the market generally or what they were
looking to achieve or felt would be reasonable before they designed the initial process. The process
itself was decided on by a few members of the senior management team in isolation

with which these stockings, as an ultimate symbol of female sexuality, are able to arouse interests in a
rotting man so trusted by the Helmers, highlights severe moral corruption even in a society in which
women were oppressed. Ibsen s interesting description of the stockings as flesh coloured serves as a
metaphor for transparency, which Nora gains about the situation from her friend s declaration of love
instead of amused paternity. It is only with this accidental understanding that she begins to recognize
how Torvald violates her personal independence by regarding her as a romantic

Describe in Details Transformational, Transactional Leadership; Differences and Examples
Leadership development is a multi billion dollar industry in the United States and Europe. This essay

Transformational leadership is developmental and usually begins with a transactional approach. First,
transactional leader s behavior approach is management by exception. This leader puts out fires by

These agreements were usually concluded on a bilateral level and defined the relationship between two states. The idea of an international community only appeared much later and its first indications can be traced back to the 17th century with the famous peace treaties of Westphalia, when states stroke for a balance of power. However, only in the 19th century states began to develop international treaties in which general rules were laid out such as the Declaration of Paris regarding the freedom of the sea (1856) or the General Act of the Brussels Conference in 1890 that established an International Maritime ... • 4. The Epidemic Of Child Obesity Over the past decade there has been an epidemic on the rise. This epidemic is child obesity. We spend millions of dollars each year trying to help or prevent the onset of obesity. Some of the reasons are due to our youth consuming more processed foods and not being physically active. However, we as a society cannot just blame the laziness and not eating the correct types of foods as the cause for obesity. This problem is more complex than people think and we can fix it, but we do need government cooperation. There are many causes of obesity some of which are poverty, food insecurity, parenting, and physical activity. The United States has the highest amount of people below the poverty line in its history. Since these people make below $20,000 dollars a year, their only way of feeding themselves is buying the cheapest food. The cheapest food in a food market is almost always processed food. These types of foods do not have the best nutrient content. Eating these types of foods more frequently can increase a person s risk of becoming obese. One of the many reasons people consume processed foods is because they are very cheap The relative price of fresh fruits and vegetables it s gone up by 40% since 1980 when the obesity epidemic first began. In contrast, the relative price of processed foods has gone down by about 40% (A Place at the Table). Since processed foods are cheap, people under the poverty line will mostly buy these types of foods. Sometimes people under the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Laboratory Of Neural Systems, Decision Science, Learning... Laboratory of Neural Systems, Decision Science, Learning and Memory (NSDSLM), also known as the Mizumori lab, seeks to understand the plasticity mechanisms within neural systems that underlie normal and pathological mnemonic functions. The principal investigator of this lab, and my primary research mentor is Dr. Sheri Mizumori. Upon joining the Mizumori lab, I have been shadowing Dr. Phillip Baker on his postdoctoral research project. He introduced me to laboratory research study and facilitated in the progressive improvement of my comprehension in basic neuroscience research. The initial study that I began working on with Dr. Baker was about lateral habenula s (LHb) involvement in behavior switching when presented with a cue. The LHb is a structure identified for its role in signaling negative outcomes or cues (Bomberg Martin et al, 2011; Proulex et al, 2014). It projects to dopaminergic, serotoninergic, and norepinephrine systems that are acknowledged to be important when switches in behavior are required (Robbins and Arnsten, 2009; Lecourtier and Kelly, 2007). My responsibilities in this study mainly included handling and training rats, recording of rat behaviors through a series of sensors and robotic doors around the T maze controlled by z basic, and evaluating data from training and testing rats in a tonal task. I also had an opportunity to contribute to the paper in accordance with my responsibilities. Furthermore, I had a chance to partake in the histology ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 7. Border Corridos And Badman Ballads Border corridos and Badman Ballads contain different style and techniques, however were shaped by similar social and cultural factors in history, such as interethnic conflict and discrimination. Border corridos and Badman Ballads each emerged from the oppression of a certain ethnic group, however each has its own history. Border corridos revolve around the Texas Mexico border and illustrate the effects of the The Mexican American War. During the Mexican American War, Mexico lost the battle and the state of Texas, which made the Rio Grande the national border. As a result, Mexicans who lived on the other side of the river had to decide between America and Mexico. The people who chose to stay in America became Tejanos (Texan American) (Davis, Lecture) and their culture, language, and property were respected due to the signing of the Treaty of Guadalupe (Flores, 167). However as Anglo American settlers moved into Mexican territory, a land grab was institutionalized, which sold most of Mexicans lands for cheap prices, due to the Mexican population s unawareness. Not only that, but Texas officers known as Texas Rangers discriminated and violently treated ethnic Mexicans (Davis, Lecture). The border corridors reflect the interethnic conflict between whites and Tejanos and portray the injustice during those times. Similarly, Badman Ballads portrays the oppression of one ethnic groups towards another. This ballad illustrates blacks discriminated by whites during the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. The Key Role Of Muscles In The Human Body The spinal column, and muscles around it play a key role in our lives. Most of our structural support in our back comes from structures called vertebrae. In total the human has 33 vertebrae. The bodies of the vertebrae rest on intervertebral discs. These discs have a ring of fibrocartilage called annulus fibrosus with a substance in the center called pulposus. These tissues provide flexibility within the spinal column. The spinal cord runs through the vertebral foramen of each vertebrae. Some vertebrae have spinous processes that are located on the posterior of the structures. In an article by Katherine Gould, she believes that children with Asperger s have the desire to attach, but are unable to because their mothers were unable to relieve distress and restore a desired affective state through soothing, so the child is motivated to soothe their self. Not being able to soothe your child can lead to attachment problems for both parent and child. Children who are unable to attach, end up being unregulated, impulse ridden, angry, and powerless, making it virtually impossible to function correctly in the social world. Another problem parents face with Asperger s is misdiagnoses. With easier access to information assisted by the Internet, not infrequently a parent will simply inform the clinician that their child fits all essential criteria of the disorder, and that they are just seeking an official validation of the diagnosis (Stiefel, I., Shields, A. It was known as the Quinta del titled after the previous owner and not after Goya himself. There he created the Black Paintings with intense, haunting themes, reflective of the artist s fear of insanity, and his outlook on humanity. • 14. The Spiritual Practice Of Sabbath My life is full of habits. And a lot of them. Some of them are really good habits, but, unfortunately, some of them are really bad. One of the bad habits I ve become accustomed to over the years is working myself to my breakpoint and not taking a chance to breathe. More than that I tend to keep busy way more often than I should be some simply over just trivial things. That is why I decided to choose the spiritual practice of Sabbath where I took one 24 hour period in my week and dedicated it to simply rest and rejuvenate and nothing more. Now by rest, I don t necessarily mean sleep, a lot of times it was just doing what brings me pleasure and replenishes me instead of exhausting myself, or giving to me, instead of taking from me. Although I have heard people talking about the Sabbath growing up multiple times, I have never heard it phrased like it was in this class: as a spiritual formative practice. To my dismay, that was all it has been until this class. My extent of knowledge about Sabbath had only came from some of what I ve read about it in the Bible. That was when the Jews practiced Sabbath as commanded under the Mosaic Law, given to them when they were in the wilderness. Exodus 20:8 10 shares, Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy. Six days you shall labor, and do all your work, but the seventh day is a Sabbath to the LORD your God. The Jews were allowed to do no work on this day, marked as Friday evening until Saturday evening on the Jewish calendar. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 15. Human Control Project Analysis Today, numerous individuals are persuaded that the end of the dark wolf was a blunder, as well as a drawback to the personal satisfaction in this nation. There has been an open objection to redress the circumstance made by the lack of awareness of our progenitors. Then again, in trying to address a circumstance made by the human impulse to control nature, it is significant to recognize the amount of human impedance is fundamental. Human control must be tempered by an appreciation and restriction. Projects intended for the insurance and rebuilding of untamed life must reflect respect for the normal request instead of predominance over it. The outcomes of human activities including the disposal of the dim wolf have been particularly intense in Yellowstone National Park, where the absence of a characteristic predator has brought about the overpopulation of buffalo, deer, and elk. As indicated by Sharon Begley of Newsweek magazine, Missing a characteristic predator, a great many the ungulates have starved amid intense winters, and there has been no determination weight to keep deer quick and moose effective . Tragically, at whatever point wolves are penned, there is a threat that they will lose some of their ferocity. • 16. The Apology By Bernard Of Clairvaux Luxury played an immense role in medieval Catholicism by taking the focus from God and placing it on the acquisition of riches and glory, which is shown by these sources: The Apology by Bernard of Clairvaux, The Book of Suger by The Abbot Suger and Guilty Pleasures: Luxury in the Middle Ages. These sources demonstrate the exorbitant manner that the churches and monasteries were being built in during that time. This not only drew attention away from the real reason for these buildings, but also was a form of idolatry for these monks, despite the honest intentions of some of them, including the Abbot Suger. In short, so many and so marvelous are the various shapes surrounding us that it is more pleasant to read the marble tanthe books, and to spend the whole day marveling over these things rather than meditating on the law of God 1 Bernard realized that despite their best efforts, the monks of Cluny could not help but be distracted from God by the riches. Therefore, he tries to bring this to attention in his writing. Another criticism that Bernard brings up in his writing is the integration of the Cluniac monks into society. He mentions that the Cluniac monks are using luxury for the acquisition of more riches, as well as for the attraction of more wealthy benefactors. He asks the Cluniac monks what they are expecting to receive for their efforts, Admiration from the foolish? Offering from the ignorant? Or scattered as we are among the gentiles, are we learning their tricks and serving their idols? 1 Bernard brings up a good point, which is that the Cluniac monks are becoming too worldly. They are becoming too focused on the contributions that they will receive from the world, in order to decorate their churches and monasteries. They are forgetting that they became monks to leave the world behind. The Abbot of Suger has a very contradictory view towards the luxury, which he expounds upon in The Book of Suger. He states the reasoning for the beginning of the luxury that was lavished upon the buildings. In the twenty third year of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 20. Electron Affinity And Ionization Energy Recently in class we have discovered the meaning of electron affinity and ionization energy. We know that ionization energy is the energy required to be absorbed when an ionic bond removes an electron from an atom. We also know that electron affinity is how easily an atom will accept an electron into its shells when trying to make itself neutral. This means that both of these terms play a big role when an atom loses or gains an electron. The ionization energy is the energy to remove an electron from an atom. A trend for ionization energy is that it generally increases left to right across a row on the periodic table except for the noble gases which have closed shells. For example, lithium requires only 520 kJ/mol to ionize it while helium, the noble gas right next to it in the periodic table, requires 2372 kJ/mol. The ionization energy can be thought of as opposite to the electronegativity of an element in the way that a low ionization energy gives away that an element easily loses electrons to a reaction, while a high electronegativity shows that an element strongly wants to have electrons in a reaction. The electron affinity is an amount of energy that changes when ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In contrast, electron affinity is related with making anions due to the fact that it is the amount of energy that changes when a negative ion is formed from an electron being added. The experiment that the scientist will be conducting will show how the rate of yeast fermentation depends on the enzymes the yeast possess to hydrolyze the disaccharides and polysaccharides.
