20. Incorrect Reference Formatting
• APA formatting is a research language that uses rules. Every
punctuation mark, space, abbreviation, italic, bold, and even the
order of the sources and that of multiple authors’ names are
regulated and have meaning so please follow the APA guidelines so
you learn how scholars reference different types of sources.
• APA does not allow you to simply cut and paste in a link or post a
website address. These are shortcuts to sources and the sites can
change or disappear over time leaving the reference lost forever.
• APA references are written using upper and lower case letters and are
never written USING ALL CAPS
• References are left justified and are never centered on the page

• Select Insert, Media, Audio, Record Audio, then Select the Red Dot, Record, and
then select the Square to stop recording. Select the arrow to preview it, then OK

25. Turnitin
• This tool is embedded in the submission box in Canvas already. It checks
your assignment and gives you a score indicating how much of your writing
was copied and pasted.
• If you select/click on the score, you can then click on the percentage to
view what content you copied and view the origin of the copied text.
• Strive for a score below 20% by adding more original content or
paraphrasing ideas and words you researched.
• Sometimes slide titles or images raise the score by mistake.
• When viewing the report, select the funnel icon and select “exclude quotes
and exclude bibliography” to verify if your editing lowered the score to
20%. Quotes and the bibliography won’t be counted in the 20%.
