The Pros And Cons Of Private Prisons
Hoarse yelling, officers shouting out orders, threats being passed brazenly between those in power and
those whose power has been stripped away. While this may sound like a line that could be from a
dystopian novel or a story about the a corrupt government and its people in a third world country,
things like this have actually happened in the United States. From the year 1980 to the year 2010
people incarcerated for federal drug charges increase from 4,749 people to 97,472. While those
statistics may be shocking, the fact that approximately half of the people with federal drug charges are
not even incarcerated in a federal prison. Those that are not in a federal prison are detained in private
for profit prisons owned by companies like Corrections ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There are many private prison deals where people have either invested their money into the prisons or
the prison has backed another business or running candidate with the prison s money. Regardless of
which way it goes, both sides usually come out on top with the prisoners losing. One group even
created something called the Prison Divestment Campaign in 2011. The campaign was formed by
several groups working together to try and get investors to pull out of private prison deals (Magee 49
50). It was easy for them to get scared that other parts of branches of the government would become
privatized seeing as a piece of the judicial branch already had. The lobbying, however, can be proven
especially with recent events. The day Donald Trump was elected to be the US President stock prices
of CCA had risen by 43% and the stock for the GEO Group had risen by 21%. Just a few day after and
the stock had risen above 100% from what it had previously been. During the time of his campaign
Donald Trump had repeatedly spoken of cities and embellished their crime rates. Trump s propaganda,
as well as his fiery immigration speeches, has led to incarceration rates slowly climbing. Under Trump
s administration, federal prison populations shrink as private prisons thrive all due to the fact that
private prison companies backed Trump in his

Four Chinese Inventions
Located in East Asia, China has been around for over 5,000 years and is known as one of the four
ancient civilizations. As China developed into a great nation, the government began to form dynasties
in which China is ruled by a specific emperor. The first dynasty to have an emperor was the Qin
Dynasty, established by Shi Huang Di. This notorious name was self proclaimed by him and literally
translates into the First Emperor of China. At the end of the Qin Dynasty, Shi Huang Di was
overthrown and China became conquered by another. Furthermore, these events spawned a new
dynasty called the Han Dynasty, which ultimately fell and created the opportunity for another dynasty
and so on. This incessant succession in governing Ancient China continued ... Show more content on

Likewise, China produced inventions that contributed to not only their culture, but the vast world of
our past and present. Particularly, The Four Great Inventions have made a tremendous impact on our
society as humans. These are the inventions of: Papermaking, Printing, Gunpowder, and the Compass,
developed during the Song and Yuan Dynasties. Starting with the art of papermaking, this process
created a writing surface other than bones, silk, or bamboo. Using plant fibers, Cai Lun of the Eastern
Han created a lightweight and smooth textured piece of paper as opposed to heavy, rough bones or
expensive silk. Then, Bi Shang of the Northern Song Dynasty invented movable type printing, which
was later updated and succeeded by Europe. By applying baked clay in which text could be composed,
Shang could print the frame onto paper. Therefore, paper and printing were used as expected: creating
a source of entertainment in books, information on news, producing art, and more. Progressively, the
compass was conceived shortly afterwards. The initial compass had a magnetic rod among a bronze
case with twenty four directions etched into it and was used until the 8th Century. Its brother
instrument used water to suspend itself and minimize movement, thus allowing long distance sea
navigation. Finally, the introduction of gunpowder had revolutionized China and the world.
Gunpowder, which is made of sulfur, charcoal, and potassium nitrate, was discovered to burn rapidly,
releasing immense volumes of gases. At first, this was used for firework displays, but was found to
also be a powerful weapon. With the advantage of gunpowder, China had become a callous adversary

How Facebook Builds Confidence For High School Male And...
Abstract This paper explores seven peer reviewed journal articles which show results from research
through surveys and a social network stating if Facebook builds confidence for high school students.
There were different studies done in each article and all authors have different opinions on how
Facebook builds or does not build someone s confidence. Sagioglou and Greitemeyer (2014) suggest
that Facebook users feel worse and unconfident after using this social site because they feel like they
wasted their whole time when they could ve been doing something else. Other articles give different
examples on how someone feels after using Facebook after using different research methods. Some
articles explained how some people can be insecure of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the first study, the researchers gave a three minute online survey to a total of 123 Facebook users.
The participants were to answer a few questions about their Facebook use, like how much time was
spent on Facebook, how actively did you look at pictures and how many statuses did you post a day,
etc. In the results section, the higher values meant the person was more towards negativity at the end
of their use on Facebook. The results ranged from zero to one hundred and twenty minutes with an
average of 12.78 minutes. This indicates that indeed, the more time that is spent on Facebook, the
lower the mood is immediately afterwards (Sagioglou and Greitemeyer, 2014). In study two,
Sagioglou and Greitemeyer (2014) asked themselves if Facebook really makes someone upset or is
Facebook activity encouraged because of a bad mood? This study included an experimental design
and they aimed to seek if Facebook was the only online social site that decreased one s mood. Two
hundred and sixty three participants were used in this experiment. The participants were to use
Facebook for twenty minutes actively (updating statuses, posting pictures, chatting, etc.). Then, they
were to go back on the survey and answer more questions. The questions were explicitly referring to
the past 20 min and read, How much do you feel like you have spent your time on something
meaningful? , ...wasted your time? and ...done something useful? (Sagioglou and Greitemeyer, 2014).

Schizophrenia Is A Disorder Of The Brain
Schizophrenia is a disorder of the brain that affects how a person feels, thinks, and how they observe
the world around them. People with schizophrenia may seem like they have lost touch with reality
(nimh.nih.gov, 2016). The media used was a movie called Canvas, which the mother has
schizophrenia. She continues to worsen over time until she gets help. The movie expresses her
hallucinations and delusions, and how they affect her and her family life. The development of
schizophrenia can progress slowly or can be a fast, abrupt onset. The onset is usually between the
teenage years and mid thirties. A theory of the PBS channel on what schizophrenia teaches us, states
how people become schizophrenic, the genes for schizophrenia can lay dormant until certain
circumstances trigger their expression, the diagnosis is mostly based on what the patient reports (Eck,
2014). Each patient presents the onset, signs, and symptoms of schizophrenia in a different way.
Schizophrenia has many different behaviors and moods with disorders of thoughts and movement
(Nimh.nih.gov, 2016). Schizophrenia has three classifications of symptoms, positive, negative, and
cognitive. Positive symptoms are psychotic symptoms, usually auditory hallucinations, delusions,
disorganized speech and behavior (Frankenburg, 2015). Other positive symptoms are dysfunctional
ways of thinking and disturbed body movements. Negative symptoms are expressed primarily through
emotions and behaviors. Negative

Osage Reign Of Terror Essay
Under the shade of a stately elm tree, Colonel E. Walters assisted in the making of millions. As the
official auctioneer of the Osage Nation, he had primarily dealt in cattle and real estate exchanges, but
by 1920, a new commodity dominated the auctions held adjacent to the Osage Indian Agency in
Pawhuska, Oklahoma. The discovery of oil beneath the rolling hills of the Osage Reservation in
northern Oklahoma generated tremendous profits for the tribe, and made the reservation one of the
highest concentrations of wealth in the world. Between 1910 and 1930, the Osage accumulated more
wealth from black gold than was produced by all nineteenth century American gold rushes combined.
But for the Osage, untold wealth also brought untold horror. The May 1921 discovery of Anna Brown
s corpse in an Osage County ravine marked the beginning of what has been called the Osage Reign of
Terror. The Osage Reign of Terror was a series of murders through which non Osages attempted to
obtain the mineral headrights of deceased Osages. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Pinnne By Sharon G. Flake Summary
I am currently reading the book Pinned by Sharon G. Flake. I started reading this because I ve read
one of Sharon s books before. She takes the epitomes of realistic fiction and writes a recreated version.
One fantastic thing she s done in this book is create an arsenal of three dimensional characters. One of
the main characters is Autumn. She is described as a tenacious girl who battles dyslexia. She also is
the best wrestler in her class. Immediately on the first page, the author begins with, Here s what I like
about wrestling. You work hard and you can be somebody in this sport. And it doesn t matter if you re
big or small. Fat or skinny. Rocking killer grades or not (1). As I read on in the book I realized that
this was Autumn s point of view. Later Adonis states, For Autumn to win so often speaks volumes
about her determination, strength and training (82). This quote shows how hard Autumn works to be
the best wrestler. I ain t too good of a student. I wrestle, bake (114). Even though she wasn t one of the
best students, she continues to practice reading difficult words. She s always optimistic and she is
determined to make Adonis can like her. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Second Defense Business Analysis
Hello class! This week we are continuing with our discussion of our chosen paper topics. There is a
significant amount of information that needs to be covered this week, so let s get started.
First, let me explain how I envision my company being organized. For those of you that don t
remember, my company s name is Second Defense, and it s a company that provides helicopter air
support to local law enforcement agencies that don t have the manning/money/other resources to
operate an air support unit within their department. For Second Defense, I am focusing mostly on the
Albuquerque New Mexico area, since it is an area within law enforcement that I am very familiar.
My company will be organized into three main branches: Administration, Operations, and Support.
The Administration branch is responsible for the overall hierarchy of the company, such as the owner
and upper management. Upper management would coordinate between the branches and day to day ...

These applications are: enterprise systems, and supply chain systems. First, enterprise systems is
necessary because enterprise systems enables the company s resources to be planned. The main
resources of Second Defense are materials needed to operate the helicopter. I have no real experience
with helicopter maintenance, but from speaking with helicopter crew chiefs I ve learned that the entire
engine needs to be disassembled and inspected every so many hours of operation. The second
application that is needed for my company to function efficiently is supply chain systems. Again, this
application is primarily used to ensure that the parts for the helicopter arrive when needed. I see the
Administration branch handling all or most of the enterprise applications within Second Defense.
Unlike the Administration branch, the Support branch is responsible for the business

It is at first hand not understandable why many companies proceed in such an irrational way although
their goal should be profit maximization especially today where most markets are commodity markets
and cost advantages are low (Christopher, Ch.1). Companies in the pre outsourcing time used to be
very successful in profit terms and the change in strategic policy must have more reasons than just an
increased flexibility to compensate the abdicated advantages.
(1.3) Introduction into the Topic
At the end of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th century almost every market in the world
was a seller s market providing the companies with an extensive power since the customers demand
for goods was almost always higher than the manufacturers could supply (M. Christopher, Logistics
and SCM, Ch. 10, p. 287). This fruitful condition helped several companies that possessed a small
know how advantage to grow at unbelievable growth rates compared to today. Responsible to a small
extent is the fact that there was no need for big advertisement campaigns entailing high advertising
costs, but especially the fact that those companies had an immense competitive advantage compared to
smaller rivals. They possessed an advantage on economies

How Did Ada Lovelace Influence Literature
How did Ada Lovelace influence literature? Well, for starters, she was very good at writing. Her father
was the famous poet, Lord Byron. She had been surrounded by literature, mathematics, and science
from the time she was just a child.(Bio, page one) After spending a lot of time learning and studying
math and science, the time eventually came when she met Charles Babbage. Charles Babbage had
come up with an idea of an invention, but needed help it to become well known. That s where Ada
comes in.

Ada was born in December of 1815 in London. Her father is the well known poet, Lord Byron. When
she was just a baby, Lord Byron left Ada and her mother. Her mother was so afraid of Ada turning out
just like her father, so she made sure Ada had a good education and had her tutored. Ada turned out to
be a genius! She would later go on to become the mother of the computer.
Ada had a bit of a sad childhood. Her father left her and her mother when she was just a baby. Her
mom became very mean and upset. She absolutely hated Ada. She just referred to Ada as it , or that
thing. Ada was a child who didn t have a father or a loving mother. She was just there. She was forced
into learning things that maybe she just didn t want to learn or do. However, she only had education to
rely on. She was a genius and nothing could stop that.
Ada married the love of her life, William King, on July 8th 1835. Together they had three children.
Their names were, Byron, who was named after Lord Byron, Anne Isabella, who later was called
Annabella after Ada s mother , and their last son, Ralph. The family was doomed to devastation yet
again. Problems happened when rumors flew that Ada was having affairs with several men and she

The Elimination of the Designated Hitter in Baseball Essay
The Elimination of the Designated Hitter in Baseball
Baseball is a simple game. You throw the ball. You hit the ball. You catch the ball.
At least it used to be that way until Ron Blomberg became the major league s first designated hitter in
1973. Now, for a DH, baseball has become even simpler: You eat some cheese fries. You hit the ball.
You eat some more cheese fries. Fortunately, this less than strenuous regimen might not last much
longer. Baseball team owners have notified the players union of the possibility the DH will not exist in
1999. The DH is a part of playing rules, and owners said they can therefore phase it out without first
receiving approval from the players union.
Bad news for players, but good news for ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Worst of all, the DH singlehandedly creates Hall of Famers. Of the players who have reached 3,000
career hits during this decade, only Robin Yount did so minus the aid of the DH rule. Neither Dave
Winfield, Paul Molitor nor George Brett would have achieved that milestone were their careers
dependent upon their ability to play defense. Spectacular careers notwithstanding, these players
lifetime stats should be accompanied by asterisks the size of baseballs when compared with those of
their Cooperstown contemporaries.
Such a move by the owners would be good for baseball on even more fronts. The American League s
big thunder offensive philosophy has left the junior circuit totally devoid of the strategy that all big
league managers used to invoke. In the National League, managers play for the run. If the lead off
hitter gets on base, the No. 2 man bunts him into scoring position. An NL team can send half its lineup
to the plate and see a total of only six pitches from the opposition.
When was the last time you saw Roberto Alomar or Alex Rodriguez bunt? With their brand of smash
mouth baseball, AL teams play for the six run inning. A typical lineup card might feature one hitter
who doesn t bring the house on every swing. As a result, ERAs are higher, and games progress more
slowly.
Sure, AL games are longer, too, but

How Have Cigarette Ads Changed Over The Years
While researching information for the group assignment our group found that over the year s cigarette
ads have changed tremendously. Diego decided to study ads created in the 1960 s where ads were
targeted at every marketing group possible. The ads were promoted as something everyone was doing.
Even the Flintstone cartoon characters were used in cigarette commercials. Companies promoted
cigarettes as a product that not only has a great tobacco taste, but is also quiet refreshing and soothing.
Most ads during this time period involved couples where the leading man attracted the women with
his cool refreshment of the cigarette. Other ads tried to persuade smokers to get rid of the old items
that are not working out so great such as their choice of cigarettes, and switch over to their Kool
cigarettes. Every company tried convince consumers that their cigarettes were better than the ... Show

Here, advertisements moved away from being short films as seen in the 60 s and focused solely on
their sales pitch. A lot of commercials still kept the couples romance theme, but added a catchy song
along with a nice jingle that pulled in the viewers attention. Other companies decided to include
coupons that could be used to purchase other retail items at a discounted price to draw in customers.
During the 90 s cigarette companies were forced to make the consumer aware of the hazardous issues
cigarettes could cause but were still pretty amazing to smoke. Even with customers knowing the harm
cigarettes could do to your health, people still had the urge contaminate their bodies for a puff of
nicotine. Around this decade one company decided to throw a new product into the tobacco business
by selling something to help people give up the bad habit of smoking. Little did they know, this
product would change the tobacco market over the next few

Hate Crime And Social Dominance Theory
Animals don t hate, and we re supposed to be better than them , is a quote by Elvis Presley. Hatred can
be defined as deep feeling of resentment or anger toward another person, group, or thing. It has caused
violent acts of anger and rage. Hate crimes are crimes that are motivated by racial, sexual, or other
prejudice, typically one involving violence (Oxford Dictionary). An example of a hate crime is the
murder of an African American man, by a group of white men, in Mississippi. This crime carries
several characteristics of hate crime, and supports the Social Dominance Theory.
The first characteristic that this hate crime exhibited is that the haters took time to go look for an
African American to victimize in an unfamiliar area. A group of white men, who disliked black
people, went to a party in Puckett. There they discussed going to Mississippi capital to find African
Americans to harass. The men went to Mississippi, and bullied unknown black men and women
during the night. The white driver, Deryl Dedmon, drove over a black man named James Craig
Anderson with his vehicle, killing him. Going to an unfamiliar area, which the white men did in this
murder, is a characteristic of hate crime. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The men had the intentions of finding an African American to harass that night, not anyone is
particular. In fact, they harassed many African Americans before killing James by making fun of them,

across James, they had first beaten him, and then Deryl Dedmon drove over him with his truck while
another friend made a video. James was a victim killed by people he didn t know, and that is another

those who do like the finer things in life and speculate and judge what and how they spend their

The language reflects and is comparable on business because like business, it s very sketchy and

when Lily slips into trying to drop hints of marrying her to Percy by giving seductive and lingering
eyes, gestures, and movements. 4. When the rejections of Seldon and Rosedale came by it wasn t
upholding Lily s high expectations for herself. It s more a reflection on her mother and how Lily was
raised. Lily s only view of a husband has only been high expectations, so it wasn t surprising when
they were rejected. 5. There was a lot of foreshadowing in Lily s future and was she was meant to do

and only love Percy, the trenors and Dorsets were settled with a bad feeling, therefore giving better

Illegal Immigrants Crossing The Mexican American Border
America has long been the land of hopes and dreams. People from all over the world have come to
America for a better life. The United States has been referred to as the land of Freedom, a sign of hope
or even a place where the American Dream lives. The American Dream was thought to be something
in which every American seemed to already live and what every person dreamed of. Many Immigrants
coming to this land of the free have lost their lives or have suffered immensely trying to make it here.
Even though the number of immigrants who try to cross the border has decreased, the number of
deaths continues to increase. With all of the dangers, illegal immigrants cross the Mexican American
border because of the extreme temperatures of the desert, the deceitful currents of the Rio Bravo, and
the dangerous practices of coyotes . In my paper I would like to focus on the struggles of immigrants
crossing over and their journey. What causes a person to leave their hometown, families, friends and
everything they know to go on a deadly trip in hope of a better life. Well the poor living conditions,
drug wars, kidnappings, and the hope of a better life leads people to take such a dangerous trip. In one
of my Archives, Perez provides an example of a small town in Mexico and what causes may people to
begin a dangerous trip to the Unites States. Perez describes, In Mexico, things weren t going well. The

Listening During A Rehearsal And Performance
Listening during a rehearsal to detect errors and interpret musical details is an essential skill when
teaching instrumental music. Conductors must correct note and rhythmic errors while also making
artistic decisions about dynamics, style, articulations, and other musical elements. Teaching students
to create characteristic tone quality, balance, and blend adds to the complexity of these musical
elements. Score study is one way directors establish an internal aural image, later attempting to
recreate this picture in rehearsal and performance. Ideally, score study helps create a mental sound
image or musical landscape (Battisti Garofalo 1990, p. 3). Directors may often find that teaching
students to evaluate mistakes and self correct is a difficult task. One of the goals of an effective
rehearsal is error detection and correction. Many studies have researched the characteristics of
teachers effective in this area of practice (Brand Burnsed, 1981; Cavitt, 2003; Crowe, 1996; Forsythe
Woods, 1983; Waggoner, 2011). In a descriptive study, Cavitt (2003) found several traits that were
common among educators with strong error detection skills. These included (a) persistence in
correcting the problem, (b) repetition, (c) brief talking and modeling, (d) modeling occurred
frequently, (e) high rates of specific feedback, (f) identifying the problem before rehearsal, and (g)

Essay On Censorship In Schools
Today s society is and always has been a struggle for freedom. America fought in the revolutionary
war against Great Britain to enhance the freedom of Americans. Censorships in libraries are an
invasion of a citizen s rights. Throughout history there are an extreme amount of examples of the
rights of Americans being invaded and abolished. The first amendment, moral agency, and religious
beliefs are all the ultimate reasons that censorships in libraries should not be aloud or legal.
The first amendments foundation is based upon freedom of speech and press. James Madison, or the
father of the constitution, fought hard to get the constitution ratified. These actions began the Bill of
Rights. Within the Bill of Rights there are amendments, which ... Show more content on

From the time children are very young they are taught by their parents or their guardians the
difference between right and wrong. If, for example a child is in the library and come across a book or
movie with inappropriate behavior or situations they have the ability to read and find out for
themselves whether or not they should be reading or watching that particular product. The conscience
in all of us should help to tell whether or not the material is appropriate. These decisions should not be
based on the government or anyone else besides themselves.
Religion will always be a controversial thought in the American society. The separation of school and
state has been in place since the early 1900s and it is inevitable that this law will always be in place.
Different religions believe different things about the types of things a person can view. Again these
types of decisions should not be made by the government. They should be made the conscience of the
person or their religious beliefs.
Truly, censorships in libraries should not be legal or aloud. There are endless reasons as to why the
public should be able to choose what kind of things they choose to listen to, watch, and read.
Although, all the tools and abilities to remove these types of materials are the available to remove
inappropriate books and movies from libraries it should not be legal because of the first amendment,

Human Activity On The Natural Environment
Environmental law is a term describing the network of treaties, statutes, regulations, and common
laws addressing the effects of human activity on the natural environment. The government is
responsible for enforcing these laws and making sure that the public is aware of the responsibility they
have to ensure the safety of our environment. Throughout this paper, the topics regarding the tragedy
of the commons , the sharing of resources, who should have access to these resources, and the
government s role in making these decisions is brought to light. Of the many issues in our world, I
believe that environmental law is put in the dark. The reason why people do not look as closely at this
as they do at gun control laws is simple...long term effects. The public sees the effects of gun laws and
equality in their community, but when it comes to recycling and using common resources in a reusable
way they are blind to the topic. The tragedy of the commons is an economic problem where people
will neglect the needs of other individuals and fight for their own personal gain. For example, imagine
a huge pond with a lot of fish in it. Every fisherman has a regular fishing pole and they all average
about the same catches per week. Then, a company designs a new, more advanced fishing pole. A few
fisherman try it out and they end up catching double the amount of fish. Regardless of the fish
declination in the pond and the impact it is having on other fisherman, they continue fishing with

Before the onset of industrial revolution, there was an open trade in Europe and so the English traders
did not require a domestic market to sell their finished goods. Traditions markets all over the world are
non capitalist markets. This growing industrial culture of new markets led to new sources of profits
which consequently led to capital accumulation. Furthermore, on discovering that specialization and

Misrepresentation Of Chinese Culture
Nowadays, some chinese culture are misrepresented by people in other countries. In the essay,I will
talk about three kinds of misrepresentation of Chinese culture.
Due to the movie montage and some exaggerated shooting techniques, some foreigners have a deep
misunderstanding of Chinese Kung Fu (like Kung Fu dodge and the internal strength).
However, the essence of Chinese martial arts is to move as much in order to keep fit and keep calm.
People who practice the martial arts, naturally have more strength and good at fighting. But all these
achievements were based on the perennial hard work. It s ridiculous to consider using a few days to
learn Chinese Kung Fu.
When I talked with my American friends, the most common answers I get are Bruce Lee, Jackie Chan,
and Kungfu. Honestly, kung fu is such a mysterious thing to me.
The representation of Kung Fu in China has a large difference from those in the US movies. We call it
the type of martial arts Wu Shu (Wu refers to martial arts;Shu means a hero).
Because I grew up with a lot of martial arts novels, I was glad meet a martial arts artist called
Christopher Pei who was the first Kung Fu artist I have ever seen.
The first thing master Pei told me was Kung Fu s misunderstanding of martial arts ( martial arts or
discipline ,an exhibition of traditional Chinese martial arts and all in one sports.) To be aware of this
fact, I felt a bit disappointed. I believe that Kung Fu is a generation after generation of secrets, only in

The Ever Changing Definition Of Home
The Ever Changing Definition of Home (change title)
I guess one might call it naivete, but at first, I simply associated home with the single definition of
where an individual lived or as something synonymous to an address. As I progressed into high
school, and moved yet once again, I realized that was not the case. Now I believe home is an
atmosphere created by the people that are surrounding me. I can be anywhere and feel at home as long
as I m with those people. My home is ever changing and developing as new people come in and out of
my life. The unforgettable memories and feelings of comfort and love created by the people
surrounding me are the cornerstone of my idea of home.
My house was teepeed or toilet papered during my last week in California. My older sister and I both
woke up disoriented, to our dog barking. We sleeply opened the front door assuming he had to pee,
but when we stepped out of the house we saw white. There were countless rolls of toilet paper hanging
from the countless number of trees. We stood there stunned. Already frazzled, I remembered how my
mom had warned us that if we wanted to get our security deposit returned on our rented house, the
house would have to be in tip top condition for the inspection. Our house had never been t ped before.
Why did it have to be tped the day of the inspection?
Our backyard was huge, so I marveled at the amount of time, effort, and toilet paper the pranksters
had exhausted to cover the large ground stretching

OLD Roger Chillingworth, throughout life, had been calm in temperament, kindly, though not of
warm affections, but ever, and in all his relations with the world, a pure and upright man. He had
begun an investigation, as he imagined, with the severe and equal integrity of a judge, desirous only of
truth, even as if the question involved no more than the air drawn lines and figures of a geometrical
problem, instead of human passions, and wrongs inflicted on himself. But, as he proceeded, a terrible
fascination, a kind of fierce, though still calm, necessity seized the old man within its gripe, and never

Sacagawea s Influence On Native America
Sacagawea was a native american woman who accompanied lewis and clark on their expedition to the

Francis Bacon and Rene Descartes
| Connections and Contrasts of Francis Bacon and Rene Descartes | | | |
The Discourse on the Method of Rightly Conducting One s Reason and of Seeking Truth in the
Sciences is one of the most influential works in the history of modern philosophy, and important to the
evolution of natural sciences. In this work, Descartes tackles the problem of skepticism. Descartes
modified it to account for a truth he found to be incontrovertible. Descartes started his line of
reasoning by doubting everything, so as to assess the world from a fresh perspective, clear of any
preconceived notions. Whereas Francis Bacon s Scientific Method wanted to replace the deductive
reasoning by inductive reasoning. The important concept in this reformed ... Show more content on

It is still practiced in some universities and will be practiced up until the 18th century at least. Three
fundamental changes have occurred during the Renaissance; Aristotle portrayed the understanding of
the universe, Galen described the importance of medicine and to understand astronomy Ptolemy
described it.
In 200 years there has been a revolutionary change, Rene Descartes and Isaac Newton have replaced
Ptolemy in astronomy. Galileo has replaced Aristotle in physics. Harvey has replaced Galen in
medicine. The three ancient authorities have been over thrown.
In Rene Descartes Discourse on Method he expresses his disappointment with traditional philosophy
and with the limitations of theology; only logic, geometry and algebra hold his respect, because of the
utter certainty which they can offer us. Unfortunately, because they depend on hypotheses, they cannot
tell us what is real, i.e. what the world is really like. Therefore Descartes suggests a method of thought
combining the consistency of mathematics but based on natural truths about what is real, basic
knowledge which could not be wrong (like the axioms of geometry). He calls into question everything
that he thinks he has learned through his senses but rests his entire system on the one truth that he
cannot doubt, namely, the reality of his own mind and the radical difference between the mental and
the physical aspects of the world.
What is crucial to Descartes is

society refused to have anything to do with Lenin s family as Alexander had brought great shame on
the town. This was during the peak of Russia s Imperial period, so citizens treated the tsar as if he

He believed that the rich should be helping the poor. This was the root of his belief that any one man
making a profit was bad for society; to him production was meant for survival. Lenin says everybody
in society is equal and should have equal rights. So he believed that there must be a strong central
government which truly represents its people. How would Lenin bring about such a change? He
followed Marx s teachings.
In the second chapter of the communist manifesto headed Proletarians and Communists , Marx and
Engels mention the idea of a political vanguard party that must be formed with the task of leading the
proletariat in revolution. This was exactly what Vladimir Lenin did; he started a party, the Bolsheviks,
which played the role of the socialist vanguard. The Bolsheviks would eventually overthrow the Tsar
and promote the working class. The change in power from the bourgeoisie to the proletariat allows the
full development of socialism.
Lenin and Marx had the same take on the definition of socialism. They both believed that socialism is
the step between capitalism and communism. Yet they had differing approaches towards this. Marx
believed that there would be a capitalistic state in place before revolution forces it into socialism. This
is preceded by a quick and easy jump into the true communism. In Lenin s Russia they had just broken
out of feudalism and the economy was in unrest. So Lenin thought in Russia he could

There are several hundred of these compounds, but not all occur in any one sample. Chemicals that
occur in TPH include hexane, benzene, toluene, xylenes, naphthalene, and fluorine, etc. The
compounds in different TPH fractions affect the body in different ways. Some of the TPH compounds,
particularly the smaller compounds such as benzene, toluene, and xylene (which are present in
gasoline), can affect the human central nervous system. If exposures are high enough, death can occur.
Breathing toluene at concentrations greater than 100 ppm for more than several hours can cause
fatigue, headache, nausea, and drowsiness. When exposure is stopped, the symptoms will go away.
However, if someone is exposed for a long time, permanent damage to the central nervous system can
occur. One TPH compound (n hexane) can affect the central nervous system in a different way,
causing a nerve disorder called peripheral neuropathy characterized by numbness in the feet and legs
and, in severe cases, paralysis. Swallowing some petroleum products such as gasoline and kerosene

College Budgeting In College
Budgeting can be very difficult, nevertheless for college students, so I will be explaining how to
budget in college by making smart decisions. A college education is probably one of the most
expensive purchases a young adult will most likely ever purchase in their lifetime. College can be very
expensive as a consequence tuition can range anywhere from 10,000 to 70,000 a year. Nearly all
college students pay for college by a college fund, scholarship/grants, out of their own or parent s
pocket or borrowed money. Despite the fact some of those payments aren t directly coming from the
student it is more than likely that they still don t have a stable income to provide themselves with basic
necessities. Most colleges don t provide students with basic necessities which means they acquire to
go out and obtain everything needed as far as food, supplies, books, also toiletries. The average
college student spends anywhere from $200 $700 a month on just the articles they need. While on
articles they want they spend anywhere from $20 $200. More than likely that most college students
don t work, notwithstanding first year students and athletes, which is a large population of the school
anyway. Today most students aren t obtaining a stable cash flow and even the ones who are from
allowances or a job tend to still most likely struggle with budgeting. Budgeting can be a very difficult

Superman As A Prime Pop Culture Caricature Of The American...
Superman is one of the most famous fictional characters in the world, and is a prime Pop Culture
caricature of the American Identity. Superman was created by Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster, two Jewish
immigrant descendants, in the year 1933, and would see his comic book debut in 1938. While the
exact reason for his creation is debatable, it is clear that Superman represents many of the American
Ideals involving Individuality as well as Unity. Superman s origin follows the alien refugee s landing
in a rural town in Kansas, after having his homeplanet destroyed, eventually being accepted by the
humble American farmers as one of their own. Superman would eventually leave his hometown to go
to the city of Metropolis where he would lead a double life, one as mild mannered Clark Kent, and the
other being of the indestructible Superman. Clear trends of unity can be seen in his origin, as from the
very start Superman is a member of a different culture, and is accepted into the American family,
similarly to the image many immigrants were told regarding the land of opportunity. The symbolism
doesn t stop there, however, as Superman himself would show signs of what it would mean to be an
American. He is strong, determined, morally straight, and for a good portion of his early adaptations,
used his gifts to better society, helping those who need help, and saving those who need saving. Most
of all, however, his alter ego represented the everyday man who works at his job with nothing more

Aggregate Demand Model
Question (3)
a) What is Aggregate Demand? (83%)
Aggregate demand is the total amount that all consumers, businesses, government agencies, and
foreigners spend on final goods and services.
Aggregate demand is represented by the aggregate demand curve, and it describes the relationship
between price levels and the quantity of output that firms are willing to provide. Aggregate demand is
not a fixed number because it depends on the price level.
The relationship between aggregate demand and the price level normally is a negative relationship,
which creates a downward sloping aggregate demand curve.
Aggregate demand is an aggregation of the microeconomic demand.
b) Develop a model showing the importance and effects of Aggregate Demand on the overall
economy. (83%)
The model is aggregate supply/ aggregate demand model (AS/AD Model). The AD/AS model is used
to illustrate the Keynesian model of the business cycle. Movements of the two curves can be used to
predict the effects that various exogenous events will have on two variables: real GDP and the price
level.
This model shows the importance of the importance and effect of the aggregate demand on the overall
economy. The government through its fiscal policy and the federal bank through its monetary policy
try to influence aggregate demand to influence the overall economy. For example, an increase in the
nominal money stock, as a result of monetary expansion policy, leads to a higher real money stock at

Assignment 1
When I first looked at this book it was pretty self explanatory what it was going to be about. Although
it was self explanatory I had not much idea on the areas it would cover. Many things looked familiar
when going through the book and skimming through. The theme of this book has to do with how our
world, in a business aspect, gathers information. It explains how we currently gather, sort through,
process, and use data and information. This book explains it from all different processes and views.
Companies use many different methods when it comes to gathering knowledge. This textbook breaks
down these methods and explains which ones are the most commonly used and most important. Data
is such an important role in businesses today, especially with how much things change over time. I
think this textbook will really cover how things have and are changing along with really stressing how

Data are raw facts that describe the characteristics of an event or object (Baltzan 6). Managers used to
have to collect data manually along with analyzing it. This was a very time consuming process which
could also be complicated in different aspects. If businesses lack data this can cause them to make
unethical business decisions. For example, if they don t have the correct data needed they may order in
too many products or not enough causing a surplus or shortage in products/supplies. Being able to
collect and analyze data quickly everyday helps make a business make better decision. Data in this
day and age is important for a business to obtain so they can make the best possible decisions for their
company to be successful. This can help a business know how much to order, how much was sold, and
their customer numbers. A company can also see where they are getting most of their customers from
when collecting data from surveys. Data allows us to see if a company is doing good or bad and

Level Of Exercise Analysis
Focusing on one thing. Your workouts should a variety of exercises, including the following training
components: flexibility, core, balance, agility, quickness, resistance and cardiovascular.
Exercising too hard. Extremely intense exercise is actually less effective than sustaining a moderate
workout for a longer period of time. The proper level of exercise should produce a light sweat and get
your heart beating in your target zone.
Not drinking, or drinking too little. Just because you don t feel thirsty during your workout doesn t
mean you should drink! Don t wait until you re thirsty because at that point you re probably already
dehydrated. Drink water during your workout to stay hydrated.
Not warming up. Start your workout slowly and then gradually increase your intensity. Muscles need

Cool downs should include 5 10 minutes of light cardiovascular training and stretching. This gives
your body a smooth transition from exercise to a state of rest. It also helps lower blood pressure and
minimizes soreness.
Lifting too much weight. Lifting more weight than you can handle will result in injury. If you find
yourself jerking or bouncing to lift weights, you re putting unnecessary stress on your joints and
muscles. This can lead to sprains, muscle spasms and back injuries. Start out light and increase weight
as your strength increases.
Misunderstanding soreness. Many people believe that chemical imbalances (lactic acid, lack of iron,
etc.) cause you to be sore after a workouts. Soreness is actually caused by small tears in the muscle
and connective tissue. This is called Delayed Onset Muscle Soreness (DOMS) and it s very common
after an intense workout.

The Value Pricing Strategy Of Marketing
The value pricing strategy, in marketing is essentially a business strategy utilized in companies to set
prices and promote products based on how much benefit and usefulness customers identify a product,
good, or service to have (Thibodeaux, 2016). Furthermore, value pricing strategy is a concept of
determining a price that captures a greater portion of customers and what they are willing to pay for
that product or service. Moreover, it s how customers base their decisions when they intentionally
think about which product to purchase. Likewise, this strategy employs the buyer s knowledge,
attitude, and viewpoint of monetary worth and not the actual seller s cost as the key aspect of pricing.
Therefore, when utilizing value pricing strategy, it is essential to use the buyer s perception of value
(Marketing Insider, 2016). Customer value based pricing is setting a price based on buyers perceptions
of value and in addition, a price must be set ahead of time within the marketing timetable before it is
welcomed by customers versus setting the price of the product after the product is already designed
and implemented.
A good marketing strategy considers each of the four key elements of the marketing program which
include product, price, distribution, and promotion rather than fully emphasizing on a single element
(Ferrell Hartline, 2014, p. 149). Another important aspect to this strategy is that a company can
significantly lack if they develop a standout product

Investigating The Risk And Benefits Of The Pertussis...
HLSC122 Assessment #2
Scenario Two involves investigating the risk and benefits of the pertussis immunization. Farah, a
mother of her 2 week old son Rami, decided she needs to know more about the risk of the
immunization before she makes her final decision and immunize her son. The question that was given
was: In infants, how does being immunized against pertussis, compared with not being immunized,
effect morbidity and mortality? A search process was documented in this essay to show how research
can be performed in order to answer this particular scenario and question.
Key words PICO structure
The key words chosen were infants , immunization and pertussis. They were located by looking at the
question and what was being asked. Choosing key words allows quality research to be done and
evidence to be found in order to answer the PICO question. The PICO structure and question guide
was also used. This structure is a good strategy to break down the question, find the key words and
main topics to be focused on researched. It s important to understand that the PICO system is a
quantitative numerical system therefore it answers questions like how much, how many and how
often, and measures values and counts (Liamputtong, 2016).
The population is infants and babies from one month old to 23 months old or around the immunising
age. The population can be narrowed down by researching the age that infants are given the pertussis
immunization in order to get a more focused

The Recent Engagement of Contemporary Islamic Thought with Modernity in the West
Modernization theory has been one of the master theoretical narratives to understand the major
institutional and cultural transformation from traditional societies to modern ones. It was developed by
the founders of sociology and has dominated the widespread understanding and explanations of many
social differentiation processes including rationalization, individualization, urbanization, and
secularization for several decades. Thus, sociologists believed that the consequences of modernization
were unavoidable route and common destinations and patters for modern or all ... Show more content

They suggest that we should re systematize and correct the classical theory of modernization in the
light of multiple modernities frameworks because multiple modernities do not assume that global
modernity is derived from the West as a single pattern (source) and describe the possibility of a plural
modernity experiences. In fact, there are many modernities, not only one single patter of
modernization. These developments forced sociologists for a paradigm shift in the dominant one side
understanding of western modernity.
In this context, Islam and the discourse of western Muslim intellectuals have gradually gained
visibility and significance through the continuing migration and the growth of new generations in the
western societies. Western Islam also has emerged in the hearth of modernity; yet did not follow the
same patters of classical modernization trends. However, it could not escape the hegemonic influence
of modernity. As a result, western Islam is emerging not only as a response to the challenges
(premises) of modernity, but also through a transformative dialectical engagement with the ethos of
modernity, which gradually pave the path towards the rise of Islamic modernism (Islamic modernity)
in the west. Hence, the multiple modernities thesis serves as a more adequate theoretical approach
than the prevailing modernization, the secularization perspective or many other approaches to

Music And Perceptions And Emotional Responses
In the last decade, there has been much debate over the value of musical training in schools. Although
some people claim that music education in schools is a waste of time and resources, research has
found that musical training can improve various cognitive processes and skills, such as the
development of language, reasoning, pattern recognition, and memory. These skills can translate into
other school subjects as well. This paper explores the relationship between music and perceptions and
emotional responses, and also examines the cognitive benefits of musical training.
In order to understand the relationship between music and cognitive processes, it is important to
understand how music is perceived and processed in the brain. Musical perception and cognition are
both actively constructed by the listener, as opposed to being passively transferred from the performer
to the listener (Iyer, 159). There are three levels of musical perception: the raw psychophysical
perception of tones, the perception of abstract qualities of tones apart from their source, and the
apprehension of environmental objects that give rise to the sound events (Handel, 181). According to
Stephen Handel, the first level of perception is when the listener first hears and perceives a musical
stimulus such as melody, harmony, tonality, rhythm, meter, and form. The second level of musical
perception is when the listener perceives abstract qualities of the musical stimuli. The final level of
musical

Greek Culture And Greco-Roman Culture
Exploration, Encounter, and Exchange of the Greeks and Romans
The Romans explored, encountered, and exchanged cultural ideas, art forms and conventions,
religious ideas, and inventions with the Greeks. Because the Romans explored further and encountered
the Greeks, Greco Roman culture was eventually formed. The exploration and trade between different
societies is imperative to cultural growth, and the Romans are an example of a society that achieved
just that. One of Rome s first encounters with the Greeks occurred when Roman rule expanded further
into the Mediterranean during the Pax Romana, a time of peace that the Roman military force
experienced, right before the beginning of the the crisis of the third century. Greeks and Greek ...

The Digestive System Is A Unique Process Of The Digestive...
Nutrition BIO 151
Chapter 3 Digestion
Cheyenne De Jong
October 8, 2017
The digestive system is a group of organs that work together. It is responsible for taking whole foods
and turning them into energy and nutrients to allow the body to function, grow and repair itself. Today,
I will explain how the digestive system performs this unique process. I m having a loaded tuna
sandwich with lettuce, tomato, cheese and mayonnaise. The bread of my sandwich is mostly
carbohydrates. Carbs are the sugars, starches and fibers found in fruits, grains, vegetables and milk
products. Carbohydrates contain macronutrients that provide fuel for the Central Nervous System and
energy for working muscles. The tuna in my sandwich contains mostly proteins and is also high in
vitamin B12. Proteins are substances that have amino acids, compounds, carbon, hydrogen, oxygen,
nitrogen and sometimes sulfur and are found in many foods. They are essential in the diet for growth
and repair of tissue and can be obtained from foods such as meat, fish, eggs, milk and legumes. The
lettuce contains fiber, carbs, and vitamins C and A. The tomato also has vitamin C. My cheese has
protein, calcium, vitamin B12 and also fats, or lipids. The mayonnaise is mostly lipids as well. Lipid is
another word for fats . They are stored in the body as energy reserves and are also important
components of cell membranes. As I take my first bite, the sandwich enters my mouth. My mouth
releases enzymes like amylase and

Linear Function And Slope
Linear functions are represented in slope intercept form, y=mx+b and are plotted on a coordinate
plane as a straight line. m represents the slope, or the measure of the steepness, of a line; b represents
the y intercept, the place where the line crosses the y axis and the value of x equals 0. Slope is
calculated by dividing the change in y by the change in x between two points, or (y_2 y_1)/(x_2 x_1 ).
Slope is commonly referred to as the average rate of change or rise/run , the change in y values (rise)
over the change in x values (run). x values of the table move the point horizontally along the x axis; y
values of the table move the point vertically along the y axis. When points of a linear function are
displayed in a table, the top number of the slope is the average rate of change in ... Show more content

As the slope becomes greater, the line will have a greater steepness when graphed. Lower slopes result
in a line closer to being horizontal. Positive slopes display a line that increases its y values as x values
increase while negative slopes display a line that decreases its y values as x values increase. Linear
functions are used to display situations with a constant rate of change. This can include miles driven
per hour or the cost of a service for an amount of time. Quadratic functions are represented by the
equation f(x)=ax^2+bx+c and are graphed in a U shape known as a parabola. A quadratic is a function
in which x^2 is the greatest power. This curve occurs when two lines are multiplied together. If the
value of a is greater than 0, the parabola is positive and opens upwards. If a is less than 0, the graph is
negative and opens downward. In order to find the vertex, the maximum or minimum value of a
quadratic, begin by finding the x coordinate, the axis of symmetry, using variables from the given
equation in ( b)/2a. Insert the x value into the function and solve to find the y coordinate of the

While this may sound like a line that could be from a dystopian novel or a story about the a corrupt government and its people in a third world country, things like this have actually happened in the United States. From the year 1980 to the year 2010 people incarcerated for federal drug charges increase from 4,749 people to 97,472. While those statistics may be shocking, the fact that approximately half of the people with federal drug charges are not even incarcerated in a federal prison. Those that are not in a federal prison are detained in private for profit prisons owned by companies like Corrections ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There are many private prison deals where people have either invested their money into the prisons or the prison has backed another business or running candidate with the prison s money. Regardless of which way it goes, both sides usually come out on top with the prisoners losing. One group even created something called the Prison Divestment Campaign in 2011. The campaign was formed by several groups working together to try and get investors to pull out of private prison deals (Magee 49 50). It was easy for them to get scared that other parts of branches of the government would become privatized seeing as a piece of the judicial branch already had. The lobbying, however, can be proven especially with recent events. The day Donald Trump was elected to be the US President stock prices of CCA had risen by 43% and the stock for the GEO Group had risen by 21%. Just a few day after and the stock had risen above 100% from what it had previously been. During the time of his campaign Donald Trump had repeatedly spoken of cities and embellished their crime rates. Trump s propaganda, as well as his fiery immigration speeches, has led to incarceration rates slowly climbing. Under Trump s administration, federal prison populations shrink as private prisons thrive all due to the fact that private prison companies backed Trump in his ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Four Chinese Inventions Located in East Asia, China has been around for over 5,000 years and is known as one of the four ancient civilizations. As China developed into a great nation, the government began to form dynasties in which China is ruled by a specific emperor. The first dynasty to have an emperor was the Qin Dynasty, established by Shi Huang Di. This notorious name was self proclaimed by him and literally translates into the First Emperor of China. At the end of the Qin Dynasty, Shi Huang Di was overthrown and China became conquered by another. Furthermore, these events spawned a new dynasty called the Han Dynasty, which ultimately fell and created the opportunity for another dynasty and so on. This incessant succession in governing Ancient China continued ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Likewise, China produced inventions that contributed to not only their culture, but the vast world of our past and present. Particularly, The Four Great Inventions have made a tremendous impact on our society as humans. These are the inventions of: Papermaking, Printing, Gunpowder, and the Compass, developed during the Song and Yuan Dynasties. Starting with the art of papermaking, this process created a writing surface other than bones, silk, or bamboo. Using plant fibers, Cai Lun of the Eastern Han created a lightweight and smooth textured piece of paper as opposed to heavy, rough bones or expensive silk. Then, Bi Shang of the Northern Song Dynasty invented movable type printing, which was later updated and succeeded by Europe. By applying baked clay in which text could be composed, Shang could print the frame onto paper. Therefore, paper and printing were used as expected: creating a source of entertainment in books, information on news, producing art, and more. Progressively, the compass was conceived shortly afterwards. The initial compass had a magnetic rod among a bronze case with twenty four directions etched into it and was used until the 8th Century. Its brother instrument used water to suspend itself and minimize movement, thus allowing long distance sea navigation. Finally, the introduction of gunpowder had revolutionized China and the world. • 4. How Facebook Builds Confidence For High School Male And... Abstract This paper explores seven peer reviewed journal articles which show results from research through surveys and a social network stating if Facebook builds confidence for high school students. There were different studies done in each article and all authors have different opinions on how Facebook builds or does not build someone s confidence. Sagioglou and Greitemeyer (2014) suggest that Facebook users feel worse and unconfident after using this social site because they feel like they wasted their whole time when they could ve been doing something else. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the first study, the researchers gave a three minute online survey to a total of 123 Facebook users. The participants were to answer a few questions about their Facebook use, like how much time was spent on Facebook, how actively did you look at pictures and how many statuses did you post a day, etc. In the results section, the higher values meant the person was more towards negativity at the end of their use on Facebook. The results ranged from zero to one hundred and twenty minutes with an average of 12.78 minutes. This indicates that indeed, the more time that is spent on Facebook, the lower the mood is immediately afterwards (Sagioglou and Greitemeyer, 2014). In study two, Sagioglou and Greitemeyer (2014) asked themselves if Facebook really makes someone upset or is Facebook activity encouraged because of a bad mood? This study included an experimental design and they aimed to seek if Facebook was the only online social site that decreased one s mood. Two hundred and sixty three participants were used in this experiment. The participants were to use Facebook for twenty minutes actively (updating statuses, posting pictures, chatting, etc.). Then, they were to go back on the survey and answer more questions. The questions were explicitly referring to the past 20 min and read, How much do you feel like you have spent your time on something meaningful? , ...wasted your time? and ...done something useful? As the official auctioneer of the Osage Nation, he had primarily dealt in cattle and real estate exchanges, but by 1920, a new commodity dominated the auctions held adjacent to the Osage Indian Agency in Pawhuska, Oklahoma. The discovery of oil beneath the rolling hills of the Osage Reservation in northern Oklahoma generated tremendous profits for the tribe, and made the reservation one of the highest concentrations of wealth in the world. Between 1910 and 1930, the Osage accumulated more wealth from black gold than was produced by all nineteenth century American gold rushes combined. You catch the ball. At least it used to be that way until Ron Blomberg became the major league s first designated hitter in 1973. Now, for a DH, baseball has become even simpler: You eat some cheese fries. You hit the ball. You eat some more cheese fries. Fortunately, this less than strenuous regimen might not last much longer. Spectacular careers notwithstanding, these players lifetime stats should be accompanied by asterisks the size of baseballs when compared with those of their Cooperstown contemporaries. Such a move by the owners would be good for baseball on even more fronts. The American League s big thunder offensive philosophy has left the junior circuit totally devoid of the strategy that all big league managers used to invoke. Hatred can be defined as deep feeling of resentment or anger toward another person, group, or thing. It has caused violent acts of anger and rage. Hate crimes are crimes that are motivated by racial, sexual, or other prejudice, typically one involving violence (Oxford Dictionary). An example of a hate crime is the murder of an African American man, by a group of white men, in Mississippi. This crime carries several characteristics of hate crime, and supports the Social Dominance Theory. The first characteristic that this hate crime exhibited is that the haters took time to go look for an African American to victimize in an unfamiliar area. A group of white men, who disliked black people, went to a party in Puckett. There they discussed going to Mississippi capital to find African Americans to harass. • 20. Listening During A Rehearsal And Performance Listening during a rehearsal to detect errors and interpret musical details is an essential skill when teaching instrumental music. Conductors must correct note and rhythmic errors while also making artistic decisions about dynamics, style, articulations, and other musical elements. Teaching students to create characteristic tone quality, balance, and blend adds to the complexity of these musical elements. Score study is one way directors establish an internal aural image, later attempting to recreate this picture in rehearsal and performance. Ideally, score study helps create a mental sound image or musical landscape (Battisti Garofalo 1990, p. 3). Directors may often find that teaching students to evaluate mistakes and self correct is a difficult task. One of the goals of an effective rehearsal is error detection and correction. Many studies have researched the characteristics of teachers effective in this area of practice (Brand Burnsed, 1981; Cavitt, 2003; Crowe, 1996; Forsythe Woods, 1983; Waggoner, 2011). In a descriptive study, Cavitt (2003) found several traits that were common among educators with strong error detection skills. • 25. Misrepresentation Of Chinese Culture Nowadays, some chinese culture are misrepresented by people in other countries. In the essay,I will talk about three kinds of misrepresentation of Chinese culture. Due to the movie montage and some exaggerated shooting techniques, some foreigners have a deep misunderstanding of Chinese Kung Fu (like Kung Fu dodge and the internal strength). However, the essence of Chinese martial arts is to move as much in order to keep fit and keep calm. People who practice the martial arts, naturally have more strength and good at fighting. But all these achievements were based on the perennial hard work. It s ridiculous to consider using a few days to learn Chinese Kung Fu. When I talked with my American friends, the most common answers I get are Bruce Lee, Jackie Chan, and Kungfu. Honestly, kung fu is such a mysterious thing to me. The representation of Kung Fu in China has a large difference from those in the US movies. We call it the type of martial arts Wu Shu (Wu refers to martial arts;Shu means a hero). Because I grew up with a lot of martial arts novels, I was glad meet a martial arts artist called Christopher Pei who was the first Kung Fu artist I have ever seen. The first thing master Pei told me was Kung Fu s misunderstanding of martial arts ( martial arts or discipline ,an exhibition of traditional Chinese martial arts and all in one sports.) To be aware of this fact, I felt a bit disappointed. I believe that Kung Fu is a generation after generation of secrets, only in a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 26. The Ever Changing Definition Of Home The Ever Changing Definition of Home (change title) I guess one might call it naivete, but at first, I simply associated home with the single definition of where an individual lived or as something synonymous to an address. As I progressed into high school, and moved yet once again, I realized that was not the case. Now I believe home is an atmosphere created by the people that are surrounding me. I can be anywhere and feel at home as long as I m with those people. My home is ever changing and developing as new people come in and out of my life. The unforgettable memories and feelings of comfort and love created by the people surrounding me are the cornerstone of my idea of home. My house was teepeed or toilet papered during my last week in California. My older sister and I both woke up disoriented, to our dog barking. We sleeply opened the front door assuming he had to pee, but when we stepped out of the house we saw white. There were countless rolls of toilet paper hanging from the countless number of trees. We stood there stunned. Already frazzled, I remembered how my mom had warned us that if we wanted to get our security deposit returned on our rented house, the house would have to be in tip top condition for the inspection. Our house had never been t ped before. Why did it have to be tped the day of the inspection? Our backyard was huge, so I marveled at the amount of time, effort, and toilet paper the pranksters had exhausted to cover the large ground stretching ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Old Roger Chillingworth OLD Roger Chillingworth, throughout life, had been calm in temperament, kindly, though not of warm affections, but ever, and in all his relations with the world, a pure and upright man. He had begun an investigation, as he imagined, with the severe and equal integrity of a judge, desirous only of truth, even as if the question involved no more than the air drawn lines and figures of a geometrical problem, instead of human passions, and wrongs inflicted on himself. But, as he proceeded, a terrible fascination, a kind of fierce, though still calm, necessity seized the old man within its gripe, and never set him free again, until he had done all its bidding. How can it be otherwise? Why should a wretched man, guilty, we will say, of murder, prefer to keep the dead corpse buried in his own heart, rather than fling it forth at once, and let the universe take care of it! 13 Yet some men bury their secrets thus, observed the calm physician. 14 True; there are such men, answered Mr. Dimmesdale. But, not to suggest more obvious reasons, it may be that they are kept silent by the very constitution of their nature. Or, can we not suppose it? guilty as they may be, retaining, nevertheless, a zeal for God s glory and man s welfare, they shrink from displaying themselves black and filthy in the view of men; because, thenceforward, no good can be achieved by them; no evil of the past be redeemed by better service. In this work, Descartes tackles the problem of skepticism. Descartes modified it to account for a truth he found to be incontrovertible. Three fundamental changes have occurred during the Renaissance; Aristotle portrayed the understanding of the universe, Galen described the importance of medicine and to understand astronomy Ptolemy described it. In 200 years there has been a revolutionary change, Rene Descartes and Isaac Newton have replaced Ptolemy in astronomy. Galileo has replaced Aristotle in physics. Harvey has replaced Galen in medicine. The three ancient authorities have been over thrown. In Rene Descartes Discourse on Method he expresses his disappointment with traditional philosophy and with the limitations of theology; only logic, geometry and algebra hold his respect, because of the utter certainty which they can offer us. Unfortunately, because they depend on hypotheses, they cannot tell us what is real, i.e. what the world is really like. Therefore Descartes suggests a method of thought combining the consistency of mathematics but based on natural truths about what is real, basic knowledge which could not be wrong (like the axioms of geometry). He calls into question everything that he thinks he has learned through his senses but rests his entire system on the one truth that he cannot doubt, namely, the reality of his own mind and the radical difference between the mental and the physical aspects of the world. How would Lenin bring about such a change? He followed Marx s teachings. In the second chapter of the communist manifesto headed Proletarians and Communists , Marx and Engels mention the idea of a political vanguard party that must be formed with the task of leading the proletariat in revolution. This was exactly what Vladimir Lenin did; he started a party, the Bolsheviks, which played the role of the socialist vanguard. The Bolsheviks would eventually overthrow the Tsar and promote the working class. The change in power from the bourgeoisie to the proletariat allows the full development of socialism. Lenin and Marx had the same take on the definition of socialism. They both believed that socialism is the step between capitalism and communism. Yet they had differing approaches towards this. Marx believed that there would be a capitalistic state in place before revolution forces it into socialism. This is preceded by a quick and easy jump into the true communism. • 37. Superman As A Prime Pop Culture Caricature Of The American... Superman is one of the most famous fictional characters in the world, and is a prime Pop Culture caricature of the American Identity. Superman was created by Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster, two Jewish immigrant descendants, in the year 1933, and would see his comic book debut in 1938. While the exact reason for his creation is debatable, it is clear that Superman represents many of the American Ideals involving Individuality as well as Unity. Superman s origin follows the alien refugee s landing in a rural town in Kansas, after having his homeplanet destroyed, eventually being accepted by the humble American farmers as one of their own. Superman would eventually leave his hometown to go to the city of Metropolis where he would lead a double life, one as mild mannered Clark Kent, and the other being of the indestructible Superman. Clear trends of unity can be seen in his origin, as from the very start Superman is a member of a different culture, and is accepted into the American family, similarly to the image many immigrants were told regarding the land of opportunity. The symbolism doesn t stop there, however, as Superman himself would show signs of what it would mean to be an American. He is strong, determined, morally straight, and for a good portion of his early adaptations, used his gifts to better society, helping those who need help, and saving those who need saving. • 42. The Value Pricing Strategy Of Marketing The value pricing strategy, in marketing is essentially a business strategy utilized in companies to set prices and promote products based on how much benefit and usefulness customers identify a product, good, or service to have (Thibodeaux, 2016). Furthermore, value pricing strategy is a concept of determining a price that captures a greater portion of customers and what they are willing to pay for that product or service. Moreover, it s how customers base their decisions when they intentionally think about which product to purchase. Likewise, this strategy employs the buyer s knowledge, attitude, and viewpoint of monetary worth and not the actual seller s cost as the key aspect of pricing. Therefore, when utilizing value pricing strategy, it is essential to use the buyer s perception of value (Marketing Insider, 2016). Customer value based pricing is setting a price based on buyers perceptions of value and in addition, a price must be set ahead of time within the marketing timetable before it is welcomed by customers versus setting the price of the product after the product is already designed and implemented. A good marketing strategy considers each of the four key elements of the marketing program which include product, price, distribution, and promotion rather than fully emphasizing on a single element (Ferrell Hartline, 2014, p. 149). Thus, sociologists believed that the consequences of modernization were unavoidable route and common destinations and patters for modern or all ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... They suggest that we should re systematize and correct the classical theory of modernization in the light of multiple modernities frameworks because multiple modernities do not assume that global modernity is derived from the West as a single pattern (source) and describe the possibility of a plural modernity experiences. In fact, there are many modernities, not only one single patter of modernization. These developments forced sociologists for a paradigm shift in the dominant one side understanding of western modernity. In this context, Islam and the discourse of western Muslim intellectuals have gradually gained visibility and significance through the continuing migration and the growth of new generations in the western societies. Western Islam also has emerged in the hearth of modernity; yet did not follow the same patters of classical modernization trends. However, it could not escape the hegemonic influence of modernity. As a result, western Islam is emerging not only as a response to the challenges (premises) of modernity, but also through a transformative dialectical engagement with the ethos of modernity, which gradually pave the path towards the rise of Islamic modernism (Islamic modernity) in the west. Hence, the multiple modernities thesis serves as a more adequate theoretical approach than the prevailing modernization, the secularization perspective or many other approaches to ... • 45. Music And Perceptions And Emotional Responses In the last decade, there has been much debate over the value of musical training in schools. Although some people claim that music education in schools is a waste of time and resources, research has found that musical training can improve various cognitive processes and skills, such as the development of language, reasoning, pattern recognition, and memory. These skills can translate into other school subjects as well. This paper explores the relationship between music and perceptions and emotional responses, and also examines the cognitive benefits of musical training. In order to understand the relationship between music and cognitive processes, it is important to understand how music is perceived and processed in the brain. Musical perception and cognition are both actively constructed by the listener, as opposed to being passively transferred from the performer to the listener (Iyer, 159). There are three levels of musical perception: the raw psychophysical perception of tones, the perception of abstract qualities of tones apart from their source, and the apprehension of environmental objects that give rise to the sound events (Handel, 181). According to Stephen Handel, the first level of perception is when the listener first hears and perceives a musical stimulus such as melody, harmony, tonality, rhythm, meter, and form. The second level of musical perception is when the listener perceives abstract qualities of the musical stimuli. The final level of musical ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Greek Culture And Greco-Roman Culture Exploration, Encounter, and Exchange of the Greeks and Romans The Romans explored, encountered, and exchanged cultural ideas, art forms and conventions, religious ideas, and inventions with the Greeks. Because the Romans explored further and encountered the Greeks, Greco Roman culture was eventually formed. The exploration and trade between different societies is imperative to cultural growth, and the Romans are an example of a society that achieved just that. One of Rome s first encounters with the Greeks occurred when Roman rule expanded further into the Mediterranean during the Pax Romana, a time of peace that the Roman military force experienced, right before the beginning of the the crisis of the third century. • 47. The Digestive System Is A Unique Process Of The Digestive... Nutrition BIO 151 Chapter 3 Digestion Cheyenne De Jong October 8, 2017 The digestive system is a group of organs that work together. It is responsible for taking whole foods and turning them into energy and nutrients to allow the body to function, grow and repair itself. Today, I will explain how the digestive system performs this unique process. I m having a loaded tuna sandwich with lettuce, tomato, cheese and mayonnaise. The bread of my sandwich is mostly carbohydrates. Carbs are the sugars, starches and fibers found in fruits, grains, vegetables and milk products. Carbohydrates contain macronutrients that provide fuel for the Central Nervous System and energy for working muscles. The tuna in my sandwich contains mostly proteins and is also high in vitamin B12. Proteins are substances that have amino acids, compounds, carbon, hydrogen, oxygen, nitrogen and sometimes sulfur and are found in many foods. They are essential in the diet for growth and repair of tissue and can be obtained from foods such as meat, fish, eggs, milk and legumes. The lettuce contains fiber, carbs, and vitamins C and A. The tomato also has vitamin C. My cheese has protein, calcium, vitamin B12 and also fats, or lipids. The mayonnaise is mostly lipids as well. Lipid is another word for fats . They are stored in the body as energy reserves and are also important components of cell membranes. As I take my first bite, the sandwich enters my mouth. My mouth releases enzymes like amylase and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 48. Linear Function And Slope Linear functions are represented in slope intercept form, y=mx+b and are plotted on a coordinate plane as a straight line. m represents the slope, or the measure of the steepness, of a line; b represents the y intercept, the place where the line crosses the y axis and the value of x equals 0. Slope is calculated by dividing the change in y by the change in x between two points, or (y_2 y_1)/(x_2 x_1 ). Slope is commonly referred to as the average rate of change or rise/run , the change in y values (rise) over the change in x values (run). x values of the table move the point horizontally along the x axis; y values of the table move the point vertically along the y axis. When points of a linear function are displayed in a table, the top number of the slope is the average rate of change in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As the slope becomes greater, the line will have a greater steepness when graphed. Lower slopes result in a line closer to being horizontal. Positive slopes display a line that increases its y values as x values increase while negative slopes display a line that decreases its y values as x values increase. Linear functions are used to display situations with a constant rate of change. This can include miles driven per hour or the cost of a service for an amount of time. Quadratic functions are represented by the equation f(x)=ax^2+bx+c and are graphed in a U shape known as a parabola. A quadratic is a function in which x^2 is the greatest power. This curve occurs when two lines are multiplied together. If the value of a is greater than 0, the parabola is positive and opens upwards. If a is less than 0, the graph is negative and opens downward. In order to find the vertex, the maximum or minimum value of a quadratic, begin by finding the x coordinate, the axis of symmetry, using variables from the given equation in ( b)/2a. Insert the x value into the function and solve to find the y coordinate of the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
