The Debate Concerning The Trinity
Trinity Heresies
The debate concerning the Trinity has been a constant debate throughout history. This debate has
continued on through modern day. As we study the different opinions and beliefs on God the Father
and His Son, we can see a pattern were the Trinity is not fully understood by many. In this paper, I will
discuss The Arian Controversy. I will describe what Arius believed concerning God and His Son. Then
I will share my thoughts and facts that will show what Arius taught was not correct.
The Bible has so much information about God and his Son. There really should not be any confusion
or controversy over who they are and how they function. But we would be living in a fairy tale land if
everyone agreed on this subject. There is no ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Now that we have some understanding of what Arius was teaching. I will now begin to defend against
his view of God and the Son. Let s begin with addressing that fact that the Son was not a creature. The
Son was God in the flesh. He walked upon earth to spread the gospel and bring salvation to a sinful
world. The prophet Isaiah even writes about the Son before he was born. For to us a child is born, to
us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful
Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace (Isaiah 9:6). The Son was more than
flesh, he was the fullness of God. Let s look at the subject of creation. Arius believes that the Son did
not exist during creation. I tend to disagree with his observation. Jesus Christ is viewed as the creator
and the savior of humanity and nature (Langdon, 2015, p. 455). Since God and the Son are one and
can t be divided, then He would have to be present at creation. I believe that the Son and the Holy
Spirit both have been with God since the beginning. According to John 1:1 2, In the beginning was the
Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning . This
verse alone is pretty clear on the fact that the Son was with God during creation. The last statement I
will address concerning Arius s teachings, will be that the Son is changeable. According to Arius, the
Word has a

Theme Of Vittorio De Sica
Vittorio De Sica is considered one of the most important directors during the time of the Italian
Neorealism movement which occurred after the fall of fascism in Italy. Neorealism revolves around
realistic filmmaking. Rather than produce glossy films to heal the heartbreak in this post war country,
De Sica and several other directors focused on the working class and how fatal the blow of fascism
was. It was an artistic response to an abundance of commercial entertainment films spewing from
Hollywood. Although it was beautiful it was much more than a piece of art, it was revolutionary.
These films offered not the escape that many Italians desired at the time but instead held a mirror up to
the general public. It showed that if the public cares about one family s story on screen every family s
story matters, a crucial point to make after years of a dictatorship that told them the opposite. The
most predominant themes that are portrayed in De Sica s work are poverty, economic turndown and
choices. He displays these uniquely through mise en scene, dialogue, cinematography and attitude.

He must have a bike, unfortunately we learn that previously he was forced to pawn his bike off for
food. Antonio s wife Maria acts quickly and sells their bed linens. This is crucial as it shows the
viewer that the most valuable belonging they own is sheets. Many Italian citizens would have related
to this greatly. De Sica also shows others standing in the que to sell items in return for money, their
faces grave with desperation the cinematography in this scene reminds the viewer that it is not just the
protagonist going through this tough time, its everybody. This highlights the neorealism style by not
singling out one character and focusing on the working class. In many scenes in the film there are a

Potential Adverse Effects Of LSD
Potential Adverse Effects of LSD
The bad trip Effects
A bad trip is an informal term for an adverse reaction caused by psychedelic drug, or denoted as drug
induced psychosis (Junaid Syaqif, 2014). LSD users described their LSD experience as a trip , which
typically lasting for twelve hours or even longer. A trip can be either good or bad. A good trip will
make users feel relaxed and happy, with pleasant hallucinations which is the main reason of LSD
abuse. However, a bad trip can make users feel agitated and confused, with frightening hallucinations.
Bad trip is the most common adverse effects of LSD and is characterized by episodes of anxiety or
panic. It can be further classified into therapeutic bad trip , mild bad trip ... Show more content on

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Bitcoin
Bitcoin is a platform which serves the role of intermediaries exactly as a traditional institution. It helps
in making it harder to cheat in transactions and reduction in the value of credibility lent trusted
intermediaries. A lack of trust becomes less of an impediment to trade opening up financial market
participants (Obstfeld and Rogoff. 334). It is able to save cost, speeds up the clearing and settlement,
as well as brings the reduction of the operational risks. It could also help implement tailor made
transactions protocol which means it would keep transaction detail confidential and the supervisors are
able to receive the records as the same time. It improves the bargaining power of sellers and buyers
when they deal with brokers which can be it s most significant function (Dirk 1). Bitcoin like any
other currency has some demerits associated with its use. First, the value of bitcoin fluctuates
periodically causing bitcoin accepting sites to continually adjust their prices which bring confusion in
a refund for a product made. Likewise, there is no buyer protection where the seller cannot reverse the
transactions. Bitcoin also causes deflation as the total number of bitcoin maxes out. This leads to
spending surges which cause the bitcoin economy to be unstable which eventually causes
unpredictability. Bitcoin also has no physical form which makes it harder to be used in physical store.
Bitcoin users are forced to convert the currency to store it. In the article, there

Ted Bundy and Psychodynamic Theory Essay
Theodore Bundy was born on November 24th 1946. He was born to an unwed mother who was told
that she was his sister. He was raised by his grandparents who portrayed themselves as his parents
throughout his early childhood years. According to the article I read Ted s grandfather was abusive
towards Ted and his other siblings (Montaldo). Ted was shy and said to be sociably awkward, but
during high school he developed into good looking guy and was liked by many. Ted met his first
girlfriend in college and eventually falls in love. His girlfriend did not see Ted as someone who would
be successful and eventually broke up with him and this broke his heart. This was about the time he
learned the truth about his family too. He developed ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Psychodynamic theorists believe that this disorder begins during infancy when infants either develop
trust or mistrust towards their caregivers. In the case of Ted this very issue caused a lot of turmoil for
him. He grew up thinking that his grandparents were his parents and that is sister was his mother. I
think that this was very hard for him to accept and he felt like he could not trust anyone. Researchers
have supported the psychodynamic theory by claiming that people with disorder have been subjected
to family violence and parental conflict or divorce. Ted s grandfather was said to be violent towards
Ted and his other siblings. I believe that Ted s environment played a huge role in his developing
antisocial disorder and that these factors would be listed under axis IV of the DSM IV TR. Michael
Packard who was an editor for DSM IV s criteria developed a way to determining the GAF or the
Global Assessment Functioning. He suggests moving up and down the scale until the person s status at
that moment is described. I chose the time in Ted s life when he was killing and found his GAF to be a
4 or lower according Packard s method. At this level the DSM IV s criteria would be that Ted was a
persistent danger of severely hurting others (Midwest Behavioral Health Network, 2009).
Psychodynamic theorists would believe that Ted s past experiences would contribute to his disorder.
They believe that psychological

Literacy Vs. Low Literacy Essay
Literacy Connections (LC) was founded in 1975 as Literacy Volunteers of America Dutchess County,
Inc. The agency changed its name to Literacy Connections in 2005. Literacy Connections is a private,
not for profit, 501(C) (3) organization committed to helping adults and families become functionally
literate. The organization works with the lowest literacy level adults in Dutchess, Columbia, and
Greene Counties.
Our core program is to help adults to learn to read and write, and function independently by recruiting
and training volunteers to provide one to one and small group tutoring that is student centered. Student
centered means not following a pre determined curriculum, and giving a voice to the student with
regard to their learning goals. Teaching adults is not the same as teaching children. Materials must be
sensitive and respectful of adult learners, and because adults face so many challenges in their daily
lives, the learning must be relevant and meaningful. Recognizing that illiteracy/low literacy is a family
issue, our Adult Family Literacy Program also offers reading enrichment to children who are
struggling with reading in the 2nd 4th grades the crucial time when children are transitioning from
learning to read to reading to learn.
MISSION STATEMENT Literacy Connections is dedicated to developing and offering programs and
services to support a literate society. We recruit and train volunteers to provide no cost student
centered tutoring

Research Findings
Dave Ramsey has been known to say (2011), What an organization spends money on is what they
value (p. 275). He also goes on to state that if you feel that your employees are a valuable part of the
company, you need to pay them as if they are (Ramsey, 2011, p. 275). When an employee feels
appreciated, they will have a longer, more productive career with the company. According to Ross
Blake (2006), it is estimated that it can cost a company anywhere from 50% to 150% of an employee s
annual salary to replace them. If an employee makes $40,000 annually, it is estimated that it will cost
$20,000 $60,000 to replace that employee. These amounts include recruiting, interviewing,
orientation, training and loss of expertise (Blake, 2006). So what methods can we use to retain our
valuable employees?
It is believed that compensation plans are a legitimate way to express appreciation in employee s
productivity and efforts and an excellent way to retain employment. Some of the main reasons to
institute a compensation plan are (Vivekanand, p.2): Ø Increased employee morale and motivation Ø
Improved employee performance Ø Increased employee productivity Ø Enhance employee efficiency
Ø Reduction in employee turnover Ø Increased company commitment
So what must one do to create a successful compensation and performance plan? There seem to be
four areas that need to be present no matter what plan you chose. One of the first steps

Planning And Scheduling Construction For Decades
Critical Path Method has been extensively utilised for planning and scheduling construction for
decades. As mentioned earlier, the study conducted by Tavakoli and Riachi (1990) results from
responding industries has shown overwhelming satisfaction of using the CPM technique for planning
and scheduling projects. The first steps in building the CPM technique is the activity list. Activity is
defined as task that consumes time and other resources (******) and contributes to the completion of
the project. This activity may further be broken down into components depending on the size of the
project. Example of activity is ****** Activity is shown by arrow to a node (figure 1).. The next is
sequencing, organising and scheduling these activities according to priorities. A key factor in
developing a realistic schedule is to embrace the right activities, weigh up the logical uniqueness of
each project and use engineering judgment. In most cases, it is not necessary to include every bid item
in the schedule. A construction schedule will establish the number of days needed to complete the
project including production rates, equipment To obtain clarity in project scheduling experienced input
is required in: interdependencies of tasks, their duration, other sensitivities (weather, location factors)
logistics of material procurement, storage, construction equipment, HR resource, sourcing and up

The Cooper Processing Company (CPC) is a manufacturer, or processor, of food products.

CPC hired you as an expert to analyze costs and investments. After analysis, make recommendations

You find that the gross margin in the retail channel is 70%; in the foodservice channel it is 45%.
Next, you find that all of the salespeople are paid a straight salary, and all receive exactly the same
amount of salary. However, you find that of the 50 sales people employed by CPC, 40 of them are
devoted to the retail channel, 10 of them are devoted to the foodservice channel. Since there are no
sales managers and each salesperson pays for selling expenses out of their salary, this accounts for all
of the personal selling expense.
You learn that all sales promotions were conducted in the retail channel.
Next, you discover that there is a great difference in the number of orders placed by customers in each
channel and the deliveries to each channel. You find that the retail channel accounts for 70% of the
orders placed and 80% of the delivery expense. The foodservice channel accounts for 30%
of the orders placed and 20% of the delivery expense. Your activity based approach suggests that
this is a reasonable way to trace the costs directly to each segment.
Next you learn that packaging differs for each channel. You discover that retail accounts for 80% of
the packaging cost, foodservice for 20%. (Don t worry about how you discovered this).

The Music Of The Song
A repetition of an upbeat piano piece, cheerful drum beats, and laughter from the audience, the
beginning of this song might lead you to believe this is a classic show tune. Nina Simone, the
songwriter and performer, certainly wants you to think this song is innocuous. She goes as far as to
describe this song as a show tune in the beginning of the lyrics. I believe, at Carnegie Hall back in
1964, she focused on this aspect of the song to let the white audience s guard down just long enough
to surprise them with a powerful message.
The song s instrumental is purposely deceptive, it s lively and repetitive. There is one subtle but
significant change in the chords during the song. As she reveals in her lyrics and tone that this is not

This grievous happening dramatically influenced Simone s views and music. She believed that non
violence was the correct way to fight prevalent racism. However, in her autobiography she mentions
how she attempted to make a home made pistol and kill somebody responsible after she saw the
incident on the news. The influence on her music was also significant. Before the bombing, Simone
concentrated her music career on folk and show tunes. However, enraged by the killings, she wrote
her first protest song, Mississippi Goddam. She wrote the song in an hour, which clearly explains the
raw rage, disappointment and disgust she displays in the lyrics (Cleary Simone, 1992).
Can t you see it? Can t you feel it? she asked to the white audience at Carnegie Hall, where the song
premiered. She expresses how she has lost faith in white America in the first verses, I don t belong
there. I ve even stopped believing in prayer. Her bluntness comes to a climax when she sings, oh, but
this whole country full of lies. You are all gonna die and die like flies. And then Simone desperately
pleads for the civil rights blacks have been denied for so long by saying, you don t have to live next to
me. Just give me my equality.

Behavioral And Emotional Aspect Of Human Thinking
approach deals with the behavioral and emotional aspect of human thinking. Humans are complex
there is no single way to help them stop the behavior. REBT assumes a persons problems come from
their mistaken cognitions, which they have perceived. Which have lead to over or under reactions, this
behavior becomes habitual and the person creates a dysfunctional pattern. The pattern enables them to
continue to repeat the poor behavior, although they know it is unhealthly. In addition REBT, we label
our reactions either consciouly or unconsciouly, therefore if we feel depressed, anxious or fearful it is
because we have convinced ourselves and validate our emotional reaction. One major tenet of REBT
is external events do not determine a persons feelings, a persons individuals beliefs about the event
determine if the person has a problem or not. Thus, we are not upset about an event in our particular
life, what makes us upset is our interpretation of the event.

The REBT framwork of Albert Ellis (1962) operates as one ot the most straightforward and well

studied at FSD how much time did you spend on self studying in a day? 3. In case of self studying
more than 3 hours with FSD s timetable did you feel stresses?( except for interesting subject, in your

purpose of the first question is to classify the level of knowledge of English. In such way, FSD
students have opportunities to choose how many hours they should spend on studying. The next
question gives information about the amount of self studying time they spend every day. And
subsequently, we evaluate the degree of stress in case of over studying and the level of knowledge
they get in the third and the fourth question respectively. The questionnaire ended by the academic

Lucretius And Aquinas
Something rather than nothing refers to the cosmological argument for the existence of God claiming
that all things in nature; something are dependent on something else for their existence. As Lucretius
puts it in his first book De Rerum Natura, by observing nature and her laws...her first principle: that
nothing s brought forth by any supernatural power out of naught hence we arrive at nihil fit ex nihilo
nothing comes from nothing
Therefore, this something must have caused. It would however be insufficient to just give an
explanation which contradicts itself because it then becomes falsifiable. God has been the result of
many of these inquiries however the reasoning to this answer follows many various roots. One

matter of having one simple substance that makes up the whole thing. Let s take for example a car
which has different parts, made by different people; the wheel, the seats the doors etc. when each part

particles. Leibniz s attempt to use contingency to suggest a cosmological argument is

A Careful Preponderance of Goodman s Some Moral Minima
Relativism is the philosophical viewpoint that there are no actions that are innately immoral or moral,
and that the morality of actions must be measured against the individual circumstances, from a
multitude of perspectives that include the actor as well as the myriad consequences (and victims,
potentially) of such an action. After reading Lenn Goodman s Some moral minima , it becomes fairly
apparent that Goodman is far from a relativist. After a lengthy, meandering introduction in which the
author spans a variety of topics and nothing too much in particular, he posits the notion that there are
certain acts which are in and of themselves morally wrong. Specifically, the author proposes the
notion that there are four categories for such acts including genocide, terrorism, slavery, and female
genital cutting and rape. A careful preponderance of Goodman s article and the challenges the author
presents to relativism indicates that such moral requirements are actually valid.
At the heart of the issue that Goodman presents in this article is the unifying theme that runs
concurrent through all four stratifications of immoral acts: they all, essentially, present instances in
which someone is enforcing his or her will on another, to the contrary of the volition of that other
party. Such a practice appears to be morally incorrect, as a number of deontologists (most notably
Immanuel Kant) would vociferously argue. A consideration of the four types of actions delineated by

The Personality Typologies Of Carl Gustav Essay
Personality Typologies
Carl Gustav Young had quite an interesting mind. He believed that while he was growing up, his
mother had to different personalities. Shortly after, he began to believe he was more than one person.
He felt that he was both the child he actually was as well as a wise old man. Jung had a lonely
childhood. He was the only surviving child of his parents and when he wasn t dealing with their
completely opposite personalities, he was being left out when all the kids in school played.
Fortunately, he didn t mind being alone, on the contrary, he very much enjoyed the alone time he
could get to think about and reflect on events.
Ever since Jung was a boy, he looked deeper into the purpose of objects and events, asked theoretical
questions that no regular boy would ask and came up with possibilities that no one could take
seriously.
Carl Jung was born on July 26th, 1875 in Kesswil, Switzerland. Shortly after graduating from the
University of Zurich, Jung became a Psychiatrist. He went onto founding a new school of
Psychotherapy called Analytical Psychology, eventually becoming a very famous Swiss Psychiatrist.
Analytical Psychology is based on the idea that experiences dramatically shape who you are and the

sometimes called Jungian analysis. The point of Jungian analysis was individuation. Individuation is

Structural Vulnerabilities And Link Privacy
Structural vulnerabilities and Link Privacy in Social Networks
Introduction/Background:
In social networks, a link represents a relationship between two nodes in the network. These links can
represent email conversations, web surfing, co purchases of two or more products (e.g. Amazon),
friendships (e.g. Facebook), followers (e.g. Twitter), etc. Often times these relationships are sensitive
and/or confidential in nature [ying wu] and the users are operating under the assumption that their
private relationships will not be disclosed.
In recent years the amount of data accumulated from social networks has become very large, and there
is a lot of valuable information to gain from analyzing and applying data mining to social network
data. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Neighborhood Randomization Using Sub Graph Perturbation
In order for people to mine valuable data from social network graphs they must first be given
information about the network. Even without explicit information about the nodes, an attacker may
use structural information about the nodes and graph itself (e.g. node degree) to identify who the
individuals are that the nodes represent. Simple graph wise randomization addresses this problem by
deleting k randomly chosen edges and replacing them with k randomly chosen edges, however a
problem arises since data miners depend on these structural attributes to properly analyze the social
network. Fard and Wang [fard wang] propose a structure aware algorithm for the randomization of
social network edges as well as a formal definition of link privacy with respect to a probabilistic
threshold. Their motivation is to help conceal sensitive links by using randomization techniques,
without disturbing the actual structure of the graph, which is achieved through local neighborhood
perturbation. This is needed so that graphs can be analyzed without the link structure being left
entirely vulnerable to attackers. The goal of their algorithm is to make it so that an adversary cannot
know if a link in the original graph exists from having a link in the new graph.

Carson Robison s Song Analysis
One of the most influential wars to the United States s homefront was not one of direct conflict and
bloodshed but rather a battle of perceived threat from Communism and the Soviet Union. This state of
turmoil, known as the Cold War, grew by feeding off the fear that encompassed the general public.
Post World War II, America s atomic monopoly and a booming economy made the people feel safe
and secure. Unfortunately, the quick growth of Communism in the eastern hemisphere began to make
the United States realize the potential of Soviet dominance. Following major events like the Truman
Doctrine in 1947 and the successful detonation of the U.S.S.R s atomic bomb in 1949, citizens were
forced to conform to a certain set of standards to avoid being ... Show more content on

Specifically prevalent in the music and movie industries, artists felt unable to express their true selves.
Instead, they felt obliged to prove the country they supported the generalized, anti communist
ideology. Carson Robison s song I m No Communist of 1952, embodies how an artist thought to
present his or her persona. In the song, Robison discusses his love for America s capitalistic
government, disdain towards Communism, and disapproval of Stalin. Rather than being able to create
free music, Robison and his peers felt the need to convey their loyalty to America. The cinematic
industry also mirrored this response with a stream of anti communist movies which satirized the
Soviet Union and ridiculed the principles of Communism. Movies Dr. Strangelove and Seven Days in
May, both released in 1964, are few examples of the movement that sprouted from Hollywood around
1949. The plots of these movies typically show over exaggerated fighting between the United States
and Soviet Union, depicting the latter always as the villains, and the Americans as the victors. Why?
Spurred by fears like the HUAC, the blacklist, and the creation of the atomic bomb, producers and
artists felt the that if they did not show allegiance to the United States they would end up being subject
to the same treatment that the Hollywood Ten received. The sole presence of this restricted popular
culture stream and the simple fact that members of the artistic and cinematic industries felt the need to
advocate for anti communist ideology to avoid Communist suspicion shows how freedom of
expression was unequivocally marginalized from the late 1940 s to the

The Promise of Pentecost
The Promise of Pentecost
I am going to send you what my Father promised; but stay in the city until you have been clothed with
power from on high.
Luke 24:49(NIV)
Since the Old Testament, the Spirit of God was promised to come to the people of God. The prophet
Joel wrote: And afterward, I will pour out my Spirit on all people. Your sons and daughters will
prophesy, your old men will dream dreams, your young men will see visions. (Joel 2:28 NIV) Nine
hundred years later, the Spirit of the living God was poured upon His church in an event named
Pentecost. The purpose of the following research is to show the Pentecost as a major point in the life
of the apostles, as well as the beginning of the church of Christ.

Practically every doctrine of Christian theology is included in this first sermon given at Pentecost. (34)
What is Minister Ockenga talking about? The fisherman betrayer was preaching with great eloquence
and authority? It seems like Peter had something different.
Arno Clemens says: In his bold testimony Peter, the erstwhile denier of Christ, manifests the power of
the Holy Spirit. His inspired testimony shows what witness the Holy Spirit will bear through the
believer, when He is unhindered. (34) Clemens adds: Peter preached the Word and through the Word
he preached the Person, the Work and the Glory of Christ. (34)
The first message from Peter was a blast. Veli Matti Kärkkäinen, professor of theology at the
University of Helsinki, says: Pentecost is a dramatic work of the Spirit: Three thousand repent, and
charismatic elements are visible. (31) Ockenga includes an interesting fact: This sermon resulted in
the conversion of 3,000 people, who continued in the apostles doctrine and in prayer. They were note
temporary conversions. (35)
Another important issue that marked the life of the Apostles specially Peter s, was that they were now
able to do miracles like what they saw Jesus do. Minister Ockenga says: In his position as an apostle,
Peter had great power so that he performed miracles. (35) Acts 2:43 says: Everyone was filled with
awe, and many wonders and miraculous signs were done by the apostle. (NIV) Minister Ockenga

What Are The Impact Of Colonisation In Kenya
The sun never sets on the British Empire, Great Britain often bragged. By 1914, about 85% of the
earth s surface was colonized by Europe. The following essay will analyze the social, political,
cultural and religious impacts of colonisation on Kenya by the British Empire from 1920 1963 during
the second wave of colonisation. Colonisation is a term derived from the Latin word colere, which
means to inhabit . It is simply the forming of a colony by a group of individuals who seek to build new
territories, usually a country is colonized for their goods but also for the colonizer to gain power.
The diagram above shows....
As a whole, Africa had a tough past. Kenya, a country on the East coast of Africa, was significantly
impacted by the imperialists.
The origin of the colonial history of Kenya goes way back to the Berlin Conference in 1885. This is
when East Africa was first divided into territories by the European powers. The British East African
Company was founded in 1895 by the British Government. Even before it was officially declared a
British colony in 1920, the British ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

decreased the amount of people following their own culture. Because of European colonisation, Kenya
s religion and culture was truly transformed.
Kenya simply did not have the resources nor the knowledge to compete with the British, thus leaving
them to work as petty traders and laborers. The majority of Kenyans at the time were laborers, and
could not afford any more than the very basic life needs due to the high tax rates. The laborers job was

Conforming to Social Pressures
How do people conform to social pressures? Will they go along with other s opinions, or will they
stick to their guns and trust their own judgments? To determine the effect of socials pressure on
decision making, an experiment was performed to test the hypothesis; If a person is presented with
visual information in a group setting and asked questions about their perception of what they see, will
they truthfully respond if others in the group unanimously choose the wrong answer? A study titled A

conformed themselves to the obviously erroneous answers given by the other group members at least
once, and 14 of them conformed on more than 6 of the staged trials. (Solomon Asch experiment
(1958) A study of conformity) Looking further in to the data, it was determined that some of the
critical subjects always yielded to the majority response and others never went with the majority, but
most of the subjects did not belong to either of these extremes (Asch). The mode of the data showed
that the majority of the subjects that decided to conform to the majority did so in the second trial,
indicating that the stress of answering differently than the majority of the participants caused them to
consistently adopt a course of action to avoid singling themselves out (Asch). Considering that some
of the subjects did not conform until about midway through the experiment the results showed that
most individuals show a high internal consistency (Asch) , that is, once the critical subject decided to
conform to the majority, they stuck with that strategy for the rest of the experiment. In 1951 Asch
conducted further trials where he changed the independent variables to try to figure out what factors
most influence the dependent variable, conformity. He concluded that the factors increasing
conformity were; the size of the group, the larger the test group, the more likely

Sexual Assault And Rape During The Civil War
Not only is sexual assault an ongoing issue in society, but there has also been a huge up rise of sexual
assaults in the United States military. Recently women have been given the approval to fight on the
front line in the Special Forces career field that was once male only career fields. For women, this
may be a huge achievement; there are so many risks and fears involved, I would be curious to see how
things turn out. Sexual assault and rape have been major issues in the military that is constantly looked
at by Congress for improvements.
Presently women are sacrificing their lives serving this country in all branches of the military in the
United States. Women are more involved in combat situations since the war began in Afghanistan and
Iraq. With the increase of women in the military came the increase of sexual violence. In the
beginning, very few reports of sexual violence were reported; over time the number of reported cases
became a huge issue that brought awareness to those that work with the President of the United States.
At that moment, processes were being looked at; changes needed to be made to find ways to give
confidence to victims, to feel safe enough to report the crime of sexual violence. The Department of
Defense is currently working on measures to alleviate the problem. Sex crimes on women in the
military can have intense effects on their mental, physical and emotional well being. Sexual

The Creator of Suspense Essay
The Creator of Suspense Alfred Hitchcock is one of the most well known directors of all time bringing
murder and mystery to a new light. His films, starting in 1925 with The Pleasure Garden and ending in
1976 with the film Family Plot , set a precedent for all other directors in the film industry. Many story
lines and techniques within the cinematography of Hitchcock are common standards for films of
today.
However, Hitchcock did not start out as a brilliant director, but instead started from the very bottom of
the business. As a young man Hitchcock was raised and lived in England with his parents. When a
new Paramount studio opened he rushed to get a job there having had interest in film making for quite
a bit of time. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, in Blackmail there was a solution...Ondra s voice was dubbed over by an English actress
named Joan Barry. By doing this voice over the film could remain a talkie and they would not have to
re film. The film also was still using the synchronized sound so it was not as perfect as later
techniques of putting sound to film.
The film is about a young woman, Alice, who makes a bad character judgement about a stranger she
meets. She is invited to the studio of a sketchy looking artist who would like her to pose for him, or so
she thinks that is his intention. His true intention, however, is to sleep with her. Ultimately she has to
fight off his unwanted attention and goes as far as killing him, in true Hitchcock fashion, with a knife.
This murder lands her in a spiral of intrigue as she is caught between her boyfriend who is an
investigating detective and a person who is blackmailing her. Alice wants to turn herself in, but if she
did that she d have to explain why she had put herself in such a position.
Within this film is the typical Hitchcock story that the character wants to tell the police what has
happened but they just can not do it. They know they d never be believed so they must set out to
defend themselves. This occurs in The 39 Steps , a film that will be focused on following this film, as
well.

Ethnographic Research On Human Behavior
Introduction
Creswell (2007) describes ethnography as a qualitative design in which the researcher describes and
interprets the shared and learned patterns of values (p. 68). Ethnographic research provides a study on
individuals in their own environment. Throughout the research, researchers attempt to answer
questions in regards to human behavior. According to Schwartzman (1993), Ethnography is used for
research involving cultural sharing, and is linked to the use of anthropology as a way to view modern
organization (p. 3). The researchers examine individuals from the inside in order to gain a better
understanding of their actions. One of the keywords in ethnographic research is culture. Culture is the
focal point of ethnographic research. As stated by Van Maanen (Merriam, 2002), the result of
ethnographic inquiry is cultural description (p, 237). This involves the researcher conducting
extensive time to the research.
According to Merriam (2002), methods of Ethnographic research include interviews, observations,
and archival research. Through these methods, researchers are able to gather information on the shared
activities and patterns of individuals (Creswell, 2007). Several procedures are necessary in order to
conduct ethnographic research. The problem must be stated, a phenomenon of interest to study,
gaining access, collecting data, phenomenological data analysis, gathering themes, and compiling the
research information (Creswell, 2007).

Analysis Of The Poem The Dead
McCrea and Cheng have differing views on the role of identity within Joyce s The Dead. McCrea
argues that identity is incomplete because of the limitations of language whereas Cheng argues that
the cultural atmosphere shapes identity. I, however, agree with certain aspects of both arguments.
Firstly, I believe that McCrea s focus on failed communication is needed to understand the nature of
identity within The Dead; however, McCrea incorrectly blames everything on the failure of language,
when the individual and society is also partly responsible. Therefore, I believe that Cheng s argument,
that the environment partly forms identity, is valid; however, he needlessly restricts the Conroys
identities by directly comparing them to Britain and Ireland. I will use Cheng s focus on a culturally
formed identity in tandem with McCrea s thematic focus on failed communication within The Dead to
answer the question of why Gabriel Conroy s identity fades at the end of The Dead (248). To answer
this question, I will consider Gabriel s personal thoughts about himself, others, and how he responds
to each challenge he receives to his personhood.
First, we must discuss the state of Gabriel s identity before it fades. Before it fades, he is
misunderstood. This fact is seen when Gabriel has a conversation with Lily. During this conversation,
Gabriel exclaims that I suppose we ll be going to your wedding one of these fine days with your
young man (197). Lily responds, with great

Reflective Essay On Homeless People
Kami!! My girl!! I m gooood. I took care of my business for where I m staying. But I got denied for

asking what kind of a job he would like, Wilmer surprised me by saying that he actually took college
classes where he studied gardening. He then proceeded to show me more of his prized pictures of his
gardening. One Facebook picture posted by the HOPE Center praised Wilmer for his work in planting
jalapeños in front of the building. A woman commented on the picture saying, Wilmer is a very
knowledgeable and skilled horticulturalist! This made me realize how Wilmer defies the stereotype
that the world often puts on homeless people as being worthless failures who can t make a meaningful
contribution to society. I tried to dig deeper into why Wilmer is so passionate about gardening, but all
I could get out of him was the simply reply of, My jalapeños ...I love jalapeños...See my jalapeños? I
cut them myself. During the time that I conversated with Wilmer as he ate his pancakes, he continued
to multitask with taking beads smaller than a grain of rice and somehow sewing them into a pair of
earrings to sell in order to keep his cell phone running. When I asked him how he became such a
skilled artist, his reply actually led to deeper revelations. I ended up in prison and they

At this formal event, I experienced both individual and partner dancing. I would describe this style to
be a mix of hip hop and swing dancing. The dance movements involved fluid arm waving and
rhythmic leg stepping. There was no set choreography so our movements were limitless. These
movements reminded me of hip hop, because there were moments of jacking and lots of hip
movements. Additionally, there were movements that reminded me of swing dancing because of the
partner spinning, dipping, and swaying.

A Career In Art Therapy
It has been discovered that, Nearly three decades ago, 61.1% of workers said they liked their jobs.
That number has slid over time, reaching an all time low in 2010 following the Great Recession, when
only 42.6% of workers said they were satisfied in their jobs, due to the findings of The Conference
Board Job Satisfaction survey (Adams). As an achiever who strives to experience excitement and
adventure in life, I find the lack of job satisfaction for most Americans to be disappointing. Having
more than a job having a career in life is essential to maintaining happiness and allowing self growth
as an adult. It is necessary that every person does something they wish to accomplish during their life
or feel the need to do to satisfy the means of their existence. After months of remaining undecided on

Flight Of Icarus Risks
Do you think risks are worth the rewards? Some people might think risks are worth the rewards, but I
don t. The two myths Arachne and Flight of Icarus are examples showing that risks are not worth the

To start off, Arachne is a good example to show why risks are not worth the rewards. Arachne wanted
to go against Athena because arachne thought she was the best we ve ever. So then they went against
each other and athena said in lines 80 90 if you win the weaving contest you will get much pride and

Factors That Go Into Making A Healthy And Thriving...
There are many key factors that go into making a healthy and thriving ministry. One can picture
ministry as a car engine were all the parts and gears are moving together to reach its destination. If one
of the parts or gears fails, the car is going to have a hard time getting to where it needs to be. One of
the most important key factors to making a healthy ministry would to insure proper communication
between all staff members in your ministry. If any communication links are broken, it can have a
devastating impact on the relationships between staff members, making it hard to work and grow as a
team.
Ethical Dilemma While the senior pastor was on vacation for a week, it was up to the ministry team to

long and having the ministry run solo on all areas in ministry for this week. All was going perfectly
that is until the actual service on Sunday. A member of our ministry leader team had said somethings
to members of the church at really upset some of them. We decided for the best interest of the service,
that we finished the service and dealt with the situation once the senior pastor returned from his
vacation. As one of the witnesses to the instant I decided to write a email to the senior pastor that I
would like to sit down and talk to him about what took place when he was gone. I told him about

The Consequences Of Addiction
According to medical guidelines, addiction is defined as a chronic, relapsing brain disease that is
characterized by compulsive drug seeking and use, despite harmful consequences (Paola). Its
symptoms consist of weakened control over the substance of choice, lack of ability to process proper
thinking and an obsessive consideration for the substance (Wikipedia). When we do something
pleasurable our brains are designed to reward us by releasing a chemical called dopamine. This
chemical is released in high quantities when drugs are ingested, not only enticing the addict but
encouraging him/her to seek after the source from which they obtained pleasure. This part of the brain
is called the reward system (Shatterproof). In 1991, the American Medical ... Show more content on

Nora Volkow, director of the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA), suggests that giving addiction
the disease label helps remove the shame and guilt that addicts feel because of their lifestyle and poor
choices (Siegel). Labeling addiction as a disease is really like giving the addict permission to use
because it justifies their behavior. There are two major trigger factors that begin the cycle of addiction.
Some want to have a good time and some people just want to run from their problems. This vicious
cycle consists of the user turning to some source for escape because of their unmet needs. Although,
the feeling of temporary euphoria does occur; this release leaves the individual feeling anxious,
depressed and guilty. Unsatisfied and frustrated the addict now has to face the consequences of their
actions and the people he/she has hurt. Overwhelmed with remorse, guilt, and shame, the abuser is
back at the beginning of the torturous cycle. The word disease makes exciting this cycle much harder
than it already is by forcing the addict to believe he is powerless over his choice. PhD. Mark Lewis, a
neuroscientist, and professor of developmental psychology encourages that in order for the abuser to
have a window of opportunity out of addiction, he/she would need to feel the shame and guilt that is
covered up by the disease model (Lewis). Guilt and shame can be good. They can motivate you to
change and re evaluate yourself. If dealt with correctly they can help steer you in the right direction.

is the Holocaust where Elie Wiesel, the author of Night, showed the Jews experience from the horrors,
tortures, and killings in the death camps. At the same time, a mass execution was happening in

was an example of cruelty because Elie was being beaten for just being in Idek s path while Idek was
venting his anger. Idek s actions showed cruelty because he attacked Elie without stopping to let Elie
recover even though, Elie was nearly dying from the beating. Another example of beatings, was that in
the Nanjing database of war, Alan Axelrod s The Rape of Nanjing, the war crime database stated that
Atrocities reported and (in many cases) documented include a rampage through the Nanking Hospital,
during which soldiers tore bandages from the flesh of the wounded, smashed casts with clubs, and
raped nurses (Axelrod). These actions showed cruelty to the Chinese because the Chinese were being

Canada Red Chokecherry
The Canada Red Chokecherry proves to be an impressive sight to those who bear witness to its jewel
toned leaves and its regal stature. To most, the chokecherry tree s appearance alone is enough to leave
an impression, however, it brings to mind memories of my younger self and my time with my
grandmother. The old chokecherry tree outside her house was always a welcoming sight when
approaching her house; a maroon colored beacon of the experiences ahead of me. The Canada Red
Chokecherry tree eye catching nature and unique appearance show the true majesty of this impressive
tree.

Analysis Of The Help By Kathyn Stockett
This summer, I decided to read The Help by Kathyn Stockett. The Help is a coming of age novel
written in the perspectives of three different yet hardworking women living in Jackson Mississippi in
the middle of the Civil Rights era. The novel s protagonists consist of Aibileen Clark, a shrewd maid,
Eugenia Skeeter Phelan, an aspiring journalist, and Minny Jackson, a cheeky maid with a lot to say.
Put these three women together and you ve got a book stating the truth of what is it to be a black
woman in Jackson Mississippi, working for a white woman. The bold women in this novel and their
audacious personalities is just one of the made this book what it is. Living in a time when people were

Like Aibileen, Minny is just one many generations of her family to be working for a white woman,
only Minny is made with an aptitude for cooking and sass. Minny has been taught since she was a
little girl by her mother, knowing she was going to end up as a maid no matter what, to never talk back
to the white lady, don t get involved in their business and to not get attached to them. Those rules were
never broken until Minny was fired from a previous job, working for the mother a villainous woman
named Hilly Holbrook, for talking back to Hilly and feeding her a certain tainted pie. And that s how
come I did it ... I told her to eat my shit [Minny tells the story of the pie Hilly ate containing her poop]
(p.g. 398). Minny was not only gutsy but played a crucial role in this story because she is the one who
gathered all the other maids necessary in order to complete the book. But I se it, the flickeron her
mouth, a hint of softness beneath her anger. Minny made this happen [Skeeter when she realized
Minny was the one who convinced all the maids to volunteer to share their stories.] (p.g.

Newsies Play Analysis
My favorite musical we have watched in here is a tie between Newsies and Les Mis, but this about
Newsies. Newsies is a phenomenal Broadway production. Fun fact it was released as The News Boys
in the United Kingdom. It was produced by Walt Disney Pictures and directed by choreographer
Kenny Ortega. Newsies is based loosely on the New York City Newsboy Strike of 1899, and features
twelve original songs from composers Alan Menken and J.A.C Redford. The stars are Christian Bale,
David Moscow, Bill Pullman, Robert Duvall, and Ann Margret. Another fact is it was the first
completely live action musical Disney produced musical. It was nominated for eight Tony awards,
winning two. The plot is Newsies in New york are selling news papers, but one day come to ... Show

When it was realeased Newsies at first received negative to mixed reviews from critics and audiences
and was a box office bomb, failing to recoup its 15 million budget, But soon became very popular and
widely liked. Now the actual Newsboys Strike of 1899 , lasted much longer. It lasted from July 20th to
August 2nd. The strike was as well lead by one eyed young man named Louis Ballat who was nick
named Kid blink . And in the musical was as a minor supporting role , with another actual real life
newsie MAurice Cohen were the inspiration for CowBoy Kelly. As well the actual strike ended with a
compromise: The Journal and The World agreed to buy back all unsold copies of the newspapers.
Another fun fact is that the NewsBOys strike of 1899 was told in David Nasaw s book Children of the
City: At work and at Play. The musical opened to previews on Broadway at the Nederlander Theatre
with a limited engagement from March 15th , 2012 to march 28 2012. They performed King of New
York in the thanksgiving parade for that year. The show has earned Eight Tony awards, and won 3

The Path of Friendship Essay
Hello? Her stressed and tired tones channeled across the phone wire.
Hi, I answered.
Hellooooo! What s up? With the recognition her voice instantly became light and easy.
Nothing. Hey, guess what? I have to write a personal narrative. No one here knows me well
enough to help, so I thought I d call you.
A personal narrative, huh? What are you gonna write about?
I don t know. That s why I called you. The only recent life changing occurrence that comes to
mind is...well, you know what it is. That s not what I want to remember as the most profound
thing that ever happened to me. I knew she understood exactly what I was referring to.

You ll see, I joked. But I need to go now.
Yeah, that s probably a good idea. I ll talk to you later.
Alright. See ya. I hung up the phone, looked blankly at my computer screen and let its whiteness
spellbind me. The darkness of the night seeped through my partly opened blinds. It was a full moon
again, just like it had been the night I had left.
I stared out the car window at the moon, holding her letter in my hand. Her words, written in the voice
I knew so well, echoed in my head. ...Today, we both separate, going down different paths of life. It s
weird to part after traveling the same way for so long.
I glanced down at the computerized image of a blue moon set against the pitch blackness of a night
sky. It seemed so lonely, so cold. This moon is for you. It s our moon, always there even when you can
t see it.
I gazed back up at the sky. I remember thinking how ironic it was that it was a full moon the last lunar
phase before it started all over again. I wasn t sure if I wanted, if I was ready for a new moon yet. Not
if it meant being thousands of miles away from the only person who knew me better than I knew
myself.
A cloud covered the moon, then moved past as the car crawled along the endless freeway. It was the
first time I didn t complain my mom was only driving 65 miles per hour: I didn t care as long as I
could be that much closer to home for that much longer. I looked at the clock. It had been only thirty
minutes since

Rhetorical Analysis Of A Thousand Acre By Jane Smiley
This paper will be a unique interpretation coupled with an analysis of rhetoric in A Thousand Acre s
by Jane Smiley. This non fiction novel is told in third person omniscient and is focused on the point of
view of one of the main characters, Ginny Cook. A Thousand Acres was a modern day retelling of
Shakespeare s King Lear; set on a large farm and small town in Iowa. This setting is important to the
plot because it is more realistic compared to a far away mystical land that is detached from its
audience. Smiley uses various rhetorical and literary techniques within her book to engage readers
while still keeping to the basic storyline previously written by Shakespeare. Smiley s use of language
positively aids the imagery and emotions seen ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
79). This quote shows how Ginny no longer puts her father first and that he Ginny even realizes that
she is built off her presence in their community, I was so remarkably comfortable with the discipline
of making a good appearance! (Smiley, pg. 701). Smiley uses a lot of imagery to describe what Ginny
is feeling and experiencing that is effective at engaging the audience and almost puts them in her
shoes. I personally felt as if I was next to Ginny throughout the whole novel due to this imagery and
language. Larry Cook, father of Ginny, Rose, and Caroline as well as the main landowner of the
thousand acre farm, is the next character to be analyzed. He is introduced in the book as farmer that is
looked up to by his community due to his success. He is the antagonist within the novel and slowly
loses his sanity as the story progresses. This loss of sanity is due to Larry s power and greed that take
over him. It begins with his idea to retire and give his land evenly to Rose and Ginny, but after this
massive life shift occurs he starts acting irrationally and lashes out at his previous caretakers. The
foreshadowing of the major storm aligns perfectly with Larry s final breaking point with Ginny, His
voice modulated into a scream, Or tell me what I can do and what I can t do. You barren whore! I
know all about you, you slut. (Smiley, pg. 452). After this, Rose talks to Ginny about their father
raping them for years,

  • 2. The Debate Concerning The Trinity Trinity Heresies The debate concerning the Trinity has been a constant debate throughout history. This debate has continued on through modern day. As we study the different opinions and beliefs on God the Father and His Son, we can see a pattern were the Trinity is not fully understood by many. In this paper, I will discuss The Arian Controversy. I will describe what Arius believed concerning God and His Son. Then I will share my thoughts and facts that will show what Arius taught was not correct. The Bible has so much information about God and his Son. There really should not be any confusion or controversy over who they are and how they function. But we would be living in a fairy tale land if everyone agreed on this subject. There is no ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Now that we have some understanding of what Arius was teaching. I will now begin to defend against his view of God and the Son. Let s begin with addressing that fact that the Son was not a creature. The Son was God in the flesh. He walked upon earth to spread the gospel and bring salvation to a sinful world. The prophet Isaiah even writes about the Son before he was born. For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace (Isaiah 9:6). The Son was more than flesh, he was the fullness of God. Let s look at the subject of creation. Arius believes that the Son did not exist during creation. I tend to disagree with his observation. Jesus Christ is viewed as the creator and the savior of humanity and nature (Langdon, 2015, p. 455). Since God and the Son are one and can t be divided, then He would have to be present at creation. I believe that the Son and the Holy Spirit both have been with God since the beginning. According to John 1:1 2, In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning . This verse alone is pretty clear on the fact that the Son was with God during creation. The last statement I will address concerning Arius s teachings, will be that the Son is changeable. According to Arius, the Word has a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Theme Of Vittorio De Sica Vittorio De Sica is considered one of the most important directors during the time of the Italian Neorealism movement which occurred after the fall of fascism in Italy. Neorealism revolves around realistic filmmaking. Rather than produce glossy films to heal the heartbreak in this post war country, De Sica and several other directors focused on the working class and how fatal the blow of fascism was. It was an artistic response to an abundance of commercial entertainment films spewing from Hollywood. Although it was beautiful it was much more than a piece of art, it was revolutionary. These films offered not the escape that many Italians desired at the time but instead held a mirror up to the general public. It showed that if the public cares about one family s story on screen every family s story matters, a crucial point to make after years of a dictatorship that told them the opposite. The most predominant themes that are portrayed in De Sica s work are poverty, economic turndown and choices. He displays these uniquely through mise en scene, dialogue, cinematography and attitude. • 5. Advantages And Disadvantages Of Bitcoin Bitcoin is a platform which serves the role of intermediaries exactly as a traditional institution. It helps in making it harder to cheat in transactions and reduction in the value of credibility lent trusted intermediaries. A lack of trust becomes less of an impediment to trade opening up financial market participants (Obstfeld and Rogoff. 334). It is able to save cost, speeds up the clearing and settlement, as well as brings the reduction of the operational risks. It could also help implement tailor made transactions protocol which means it would keep transaction detail confidential and the supervisors are able to receive the records as the same time. It improves the bargaining power of sellers and buyers when they deal with brokers which can be it s most significant function (Dirk 1). Bitcoin like any other currency has some demerits associated with its use. First, the value of bitcoin fluctuates periodically causing bitcoin accepting sites to continually adjust their prices which bring confusion in a refund for a product made. Likewise, there is no buyer protection where the seller cannot reverse the transactions. Bitcoin also causes deflation as the total number of bitcoin maxes out. This leads to spending surges which cause the bitcoin economy to be unstable which eventually causes unpredictability. Bitcoin also has no physical form which makes it harder to be used in physical store. Bitcoin users are forced to convert the currency to store it. In the article, there ... According to the article I read Ted s grandfather was abusive towards Ted and his other siblings (Montaldo). Ted was shy and said to be sociably awkward, but during high school he developed into good looking guy and was liked by many. Ted met his first girlfriend in college and eventually falls in love. Psychodynamic theorists believe that this disorder begins during infancy when infants either develop trust or mistrust towards their caregivers. In the case of Ted this very issue caused a lot of turmoil for him. He grew up thinking that his grandparents were his parents and that is sister was his mother. I think that this was very hard for him to accept and he felt like he could not trust anyone. Researchers have supported the psychodynamic theory by claiming that people with disorder have been subjected to family violence and parental conflict or divorce. Ted s grandfather was said to be violent towards Ted and his other siblings. I believe that Ted s environment played a huge role in his developing antisocial disorder and that these factors would be listed under axis IV of the DSM IV TR. Michael Packard who was an editor for DSM IV s criteria developed a way to determining the GAF or the Global Assessment Functioning. He suggests moving up and down the scale until the person s status at that moment is described. I chose the time in Ted s life when he was killing and found his GAF to be a 4 or lower according Packard s method. The agency changed its name to Literacy Connections in 2005. Literacy Connections is a private, not for profit, 501(C) (3) organization committed to helping adults and families become functionally literate. The organization works with the lowest literacy level adults in Dutchess, Columbia, and Greene Counties. Our core program is to help adults to learn to read and write, and function independently by recruiting and training volunteers to provide one to one and small group tutoring that is student centered. Student centered means not following a pre determined curriculum, and giving a voice to the student with regard to their learning goals. Teaching adults is not the same as teaching children. Materials must be sensitive and respectful of adult learners, and because adults face so many challenges in their daily lives, the learning must be relevant and meaningful. Recognizing that illiteracy/low literacy is a family issue, our Adult Family Literacy Program also offers reading enrichment to children who are struggling with reading in the 2nd 4th grades the crucial time when children are transitioning from learning to read to reading to learn. Humans are complex there is no single way to help them stop the behavior. REBT assumes a persons problems come from their mistaken cognitions, which they have perceived. The pattern enables them to continue to repeat the poor behavior, although they know it is unhealthly. In addition REBT, we label our reactions either consciouly or unconsciouly, therefore if we feel depressed, anxious or fearful it is because we have convinced ourselves and validate our emotional reaction. A Careful Preponderance of Goodman s Some Moral Minima Relativism is the philosophical viewpoint that there are no actions that are innately immoral or moral, and that the morality of actions must be measured against the individual circumstances, from a multitude of perspectives that include the actor as well as the myriad consequences (and victims, potentially) of such an action. After reading Lenn Goodman s Some moral minima , it becomes fairly apparent that Goodman is far from a relativist. After a lengthy, meandering introduction in which the author spans a variety of topics and nothing too much in particular, he posits the notion that there are certain acts which are in and of themselves morally wrong. Specifically, the author proposes the notion that there are four categories for such acts including genocide, terrorism, slavery, and female genital cutting and rape. A careful preponderance of Goodman s article and the challenges the author presents to relativism indicates that such moral requirements are actually valid. At the heart of the issue that Goodman presents in this article is the unifying theme that runs concurrent through all four stratifications of immoral acts: they all, essentially, present instances in which someone is enforcing his or her will on another, to the contrary of the volition of that other party. Such a practice appears to be morally incorrect, as a number of deontologists (most notably Immanuel Kant) would vociferously argue. He was the only surviving child of his parents and when he wasn t dealing with their completely opposite personalities, he was being left out when all the kids in school played. Fortunately, he didn t mind being alone, on the contrary, he very much enjoyed the alone time he could get to think about and reflect on events. Ever since Jung was a boy, he looked deeper into the purpose of objects and events, asked theoretical questions that no regular boy would ask and came up with possibilities that no one could take seriously. Carl Jung was born on July 26th, 1875 in Kesswil, Switzerland. Shortly after graduating from the University of Zurich, Jung became a Psychiatrist. He went onto founding a new school of Psychotherapy called Analytical Psychology, eventually becoming a very famous Swiss Psychiatrist. Analytical Psychology is based on the idea that experiences dramatically shape who you are and the way you live your life as well as predict the way you will be living in the future. Results: Neighborhood Randomization Using Sub Graph Perturbation In order for people to mine valuable data from social network graphs they must first be given information about the network. Even without explicit information about the nodes, an attacker may use structural information about the nodes and graph itself (e.g. node degree) to identify who the individuals are that the nodes represent. Simple graph wise randomization addresses this problem by deleting k randomly chosen edges and replacing them with k randomly chosen edges, however a problem arises since data miners depend on these structural attributes to properly analyze the social network. Fard and Wang [fard wang] propose a structure aware algorithm for the randomization of social network edges as well as a formal definition of link privacy with respect to a probabilistic threshold. Their motivation is to help conceal sensitive links by using randomization techniques, without disturbing the actual structure of the graph, which is achieved through local neighborhood perturbation. This is needed so that graphs can be analyzed without the link structure being left entirely vulnerable to attackers. The goal of their algorithm is to make it so that an adversary cannot know if a link in the original graph exists from having a link in the new graph. Problem definition: Given a ... The plots of these movies typically show over exaggerated fighting between the United States and Soviet Union, depicting the latter always as the villains, and the Americans as the victors. Why? Spurred by fears like the HUAC, the blacklist, and the creation of the atomic bomb, producers and artists felt the that if they did not show allegiance to the United States they would end up being subject to the same treatment that the Hollywood Ten received. The sole presence of this restricted popular culture stream and the simple fact that members of the artistic and cinematic industries felt the need to advocate for anti communist ideology to avoid Communist suspicion shows how freedom of expression was unequivocally marginalized from the late 1940 s to the ... Luke 24:49(NIV) Since the Old Testament, the Spirit of God was promised to come to the people of God. The prophet Joel wrote: And afterward, I will pour out my Spirit on all people. The following essay will analyze the social, political, cultural and religious impacts of colonisation on Kenya by the British Empire from 1920 1963 during the second wave of colonisation. Colonisation is a term derived from the Latin word colere, which means to inhabit . It is simply the forming of a colony by a group of individuals who seek to build new territories, usually a country is colonized for their goods but also for the colonizer to gain power. The diagram above shows.... As a whole, Africa had a tough past. Kenya, a country on the East coast of Africa, was significantly impacted by the imperialists. The origin of the colonial history of Kenya goes way back to the Berlin Conference in 1885. This is when East Africa was first divided into territories by the European powers. Recently women have been given the approval to fight on the front line in the Special Forces career field that was once male only career fields. For women, this may be a huge achievement; there are so many risks and fears involved, I would be curious to see how things turn out. Sexual assault and rape have been major issues in the military that is constantly looked at by Congress for improvements. Presently women are sacrificing their lives serving this country in all branches of the military in the United States. Women are more involved in combat situations since the war began in Afghanistan and Iraq. With the increase of women in the military came the increase of sexual violence. In the beginning, very few reports of sexual violence were reported; over time the number of reported cases became a huge issue that brought awareness to those that work with the President of the United States. At that moment, processes were being looked at; changes needed to be made to find ways to give confidence to victims, to feel safe enough to report the crime of sexual violence. Ethnographic Research On Human Behavior Introduction Creswell (2007) describes ethnography as a qualitative design in which the researcher describes and interprets the shared and learned patterns of values (p. 68). Ethnographic research provides a study on individuals in their own environment. Throughout the research, researchers attempt to answer questions in regards to human behavior. According to Schwartzman (1993), Ethnography is used for research involving cultural sharing, and is linked to the use of anthropology as a way to view modern organization (p. 3). The researchers examine individuals from the inside in order to gain a better understanding of their actions. One of the keywords in ethnographic research is culture. Culture is the focal point of ethnographic research. As stated by Van Maanen (Merriam, 2002), the result of ethnographic inquiry is cultural description (p, 237). This involves the researcher conducting extensive time to the research. According to Merriam (2002), methods of Ethnographic research include interviews, observations, and archival research. Through these methods, researchers are able to gather information on the shared activities and patterns of individuals (Creswell, 2007). Several procedures are necessary in order to conduct ethnographic research. • 29. Analysis Of The Poem The Dead McCrea and Cheng have differing views on the role of identity within Joyce s The Dead. McCrea argues that identity is incomplete because of the limitations of language whereas Cheng argues that the cultural atmosphere shapes identity. I, however, agree with certain aspects of both arguments. Firstly, I believe that McCrea s focus on failed communication is needed to understand the nature of identity within The Dead; however, McCrea incorrectly blames everything on the failure of language, when the individual and society is also partly responsible. Therefore, I believe that Cheng s argument, that the environment partly forms identity, is valid; however, he needlessly restricts the Conroys identities by directly comparing them to Britain and Ireland. I will use Cheng s focus on a culturally formed identity in tandem with McCrea s thematic focus on failed communication within The Dead to answer the question of why Gabriel Conroy s identity fades at the end of The Dead (248). To answer this question, I will consider Gabriel s personal thoughts about himself, others, and how he responds to each challenge he receives to his personhood. First, we must discuss the state of Gabriel s identity before it fades. Before it fades, he is misunderstood. This fact is seen when Gabriel has a conversation with Lily. During this conversation, Gabriel exclaims that I suppose we ll be going to your wedding one of these fine days with your young man (197). Lily responds, with great ... The Consequences Of Addiction According to medical guidelines, addiction is defined as a chronic, relapsing brain disease that is characterized by compulsive drug seeking and use, despite harmful consequences (Paola). Its symptoms consist of weakened control over the substance of choice, lack of ability to process proper thinking and an obsessive consideration for the substance (Wikipedia). When we do something pleasurable our brains are designed to reward us by releasing a chemical called dopamine. Labeling addiction as a disease is really like giving the addict permission to use because it justifies their behavior. There are two major trigger factors that begin the cycle of addiction. Some want to have a good time and some people just want to run from their problems. This vicious cycle consists of the user turning to some source for escape because of their unmet needs. Although, the feeling of temporary euphoria does occur; this release leaves the individual feeling anxious, depressed and guilty. I hung up the phone, looked blankly at my computer screen and let its whiteness spellbind me. The darkness of the night seeped through my partly opened blinds. It was a full moon again, just like it had been the night I had left. I stared out the car window at the moon, holding her letter in my hand. I glanced down at the computerized image of a blue moon set against the pitch blackness of a night sky. It seemed so lonely, so cold. This moon is for you. It s our moon, always there even when you can t see it. I gazed back up at the sky. I remember thinking how ironic it was that it was a full moon the last lunar phase before it started all over again. I wasn t sure if I wanted, if I was ready for a new moon yet. This non fiction novel is told in third person omniscient and is focused on the point of view of one of the main characters, Ginny Cook. A Thousand Acres was a modern day retelling of Shakespeare s King Lear; set on a large farm and small town in Iowa. This setting is important to the plot because it is more realistic compared to a far away mystical land that is detached from its audience. This quote shows how Ginny no longer puts her father first and that he Ginny even realizes that she is built off her presence in their community, I was so remarkably comfortable with the discipline of making a good appearance! (Smiley, pg. 701). Smiley uses a lot of imagery to describe what Ginny is feeling and experiencing that is effective at engaging the audience and almost puts them in her shoes. I personally felt as if I was next to Ginny throughout the whole novel due to this imagery and language. Larry Cook, father of Ginny, Rose, and Caroline as well as the main landowner of the thousand acre farm, is the next character to be analyzed. He is introduced in the book as farmer that is looked up to by his community due to his success. He is the antagonist within the novel and slowly loses his sanity as the story progresses. This loss of sanity is due to Larry s power and greed that take over him. It begins with his idea to retire and give his land evenly to Rose and Ginny, but after this massive life shift occurs he starts acting irrationally and lashes out at his previous caretakers. The foreshadowing of the major storm aligns perfectly with Larry s final breaking point with Ginny, His voice modulated into a scream, Or tell me what I can do and what I can t do. You barren whore! I know all about you, you slut. (Smiley, pg. 452). After this, Rose talks to Ginny about their father raping them for years, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
