George Pierre Seurat Research Paper
George Pierre Seurat was born on Decemeber 2, 1859 in Paris, France. He was the son of Chrysostom
Antoine Seurat and Ernestine Faivre. He was the youngest of 3 children. His father was a bailiff and a
native of Champagne and his mother was Parisian. They were middle class. The family relocated
temporily to Fontainebleau in 1870, while the Franco Prussian War and the Paris Commune rebellion.
When Seurat was a little boy he began to take interest in art and was encouraged by his uncle, Paul
Haumonte, who is a textile dealer and amateur painter. ( The Art Story.org Your Guide to Modern Art )
When Seurat was fifthteen, he entered a local drawing school then three years later he went to Ecole
des Beaux Arts in Paris from 1878 1879 to study art. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Most artists that was Post Impressionists didn t think of themselves as Post Impressionists. The name
was given to them by an English artist and critic Roger Fry in 1910. (Bolton 4) Some examples of
Post Impressionist artists are Vincent Van Gogh, Georges Seurat, Paul Cezanne, Henri de Toulouse
Lautrec, and Camille Pissarro.
Most Post Impressionists worked in Paris. Paris was considered to be the art capital of the world at
that time. There was an intense concentration of artistic activity and art dealers in the city, and the
Ecole des Beaux Arts and academie Jlian were key schools where many artists were taught. (Bolton 9)
When he was alive he was a known artist but after he died he became famous. Some of his paintings
was A Sunday Afternoon on the Island of La Grande Jatte , Bathers at Asnieres , and The Lighthouse
at Honfleur. But his most famous one is A Sunday Afternoon on the Island of La Grande

Offensive Humor In Defense Of Offensive Comedy By Eva Woods
For every person mad at a [offensive] joke, there s another person laughing (Burke). This line, found
in Defense of Offensive Comedy by Eva Woods, does a marvelous job at displaying the issues with
creating a line for offensive humor. The quote demonstrates how one group would find a joke funny,
while another would be appalled that anyone could make a joke about such a subject. Due to the fact
that no subject would have be fair game if we drew a line for offensive humor, I believe there is no
such thing as offensive humor because it limits what comedians can say. Comedians hold an important
job to use their humor for the benefit of society by hitting those difficult to talk about subjects and to
cause laugher. To risk limiting the laughter ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In an effort to show their distaste, many people take to social media or other ways of complaining.
This is not an effective way and often time ruins the point. It shuts downs the comedian and takes
away a vote that matters (Foster) from the audience. This vote matters since instead of one or two
individuals picking whether the comedy will be around, society as a whole has the option to determine
the survivability of the humor and his comedy. Instead of showing their disapproval by ruining the
reputation of the comedians, such as Jerry Seinfeld or Cuck Nice, who received a letter telling him he
was not welcome back to the institution (Grinberg) because of the negative feedback from an offended
group of college students. In contrast to becoming offended, the disapproval can be shown by not
paying for the show or channel. As well known comedian John Lopez told a audience member You
can t take a joke, you re in the wrong [explicit] place (Street). Indvuials have the choice to be
somewhere and as Lopez says they can pick if they go or not. The comedians, if not receiving the
audience they want, will then realize they have to change, while everyone is being civil and kind.
Since many people may still like the comedy, everyone still gets their vote to determine what they do
next (Foster) by either showing or not showing

The Great Depression Was The Single Most Devastating...
The Great Depression was the single most devastating economic catastrophe that had resounding
effects and consequences on people all over the world. Did the various expansionary monetary
policies employed by the Fed help the US pull out of the Great Depression during the Hoover
administration? What was done differently after Roosevelt became president? Many economists and
historians have argued that the misguided monetary policies during the Hoover administration
including the mistiming of interest hike, allowance of the decrease in national money supply and
reluctance in expansionary monetary policies due to the maintenance of the gold standard were
contributive to the length and severity of the Great Depression. Several estimates from various models
have suggested that the mistakes made in the monetary policies during the same period contributed to
around 20 to 70% of the decline in real output during the Hoover administration (Fishback, 2010, pg
386). After the Roosevelt administration took control in 1933, recovery began primarily due to the
abandonment of the gold standard and the appointment of Eugene Black as the Chair of the Federal
Reserve. This argument is backed by numerous case studies, economic models, and research papers.
Researching these two questions would provide a deeper insight into some of the monetary policies
implemented today and also make sure that history doesn t repeat itself. Facts presented below
supports the argument on how the Fed s monetary

The Central Park Documentary Analysis
The documentary The Central Park Five highlights the flaws of the American judicial system and the
ways that it directly targets African Americans. On April 19, 1989 Trisha Meili was attacked whilst
jogging in Central Park. This attack resulted in five young boys Korey Wise, Kevin Richardson,
Raymond Santana, Yusef Salaam, and Antron McCraylost losing their youth and any chance at a
normal life when they were wrongfully imprisoned for a crime they did not commit. The documentary
focuses on humanizing the five men in efforts to put a face to injustice. Their incarceration was a
result of socioeconomic factors combined with the institutional racism that is embedded not only
within our judicial system but permeates our society as a whole. By looking at the political and
economic climate of the 1970s and 1980s, the film highlights the effects of wealth ... Show more

This began the trend of an expansive penal system, one that has persisted to this day. Our judicial
system no longer holds the original purpose of prisons as a means of reforming individuals, but rather
uses them as a solution to crime. Mass incarceration has become the temporary fix for the fundamental
problems that exist within the structure of our society. The film highlights the importance of
understanding the political and economic environment of New York City during the time of the
Central Park Jogger case. It underscores the rising wealth of the city during the 1980s. This surge of
wealth was largely attributed to the introduction of neoliberalism during the late 1970s. David Harvey
addresses the urban crisis that struck New York in his book A Brief History of Neoliberalism,
emphasizing the austerity and capitalist restructuring of the city that elevated the wealthy while
casting working class citizens and immigrants aside. This greatly exasperated the effects of racism and
poverty. The economic policies during this

Why Do Liquids Evaporate At Different Rates
The purpose of this lab investigation is to determine why liquids evaporate at different rates. The Lab
manual defines rate of evaporation (ºC/s) as temperature change divided by the amount of time taken
to reach the lowest temperature. Factors such as the intermolecular forces (IMFs) of a molecule
determine the rate of evaporation. Observing the rate of evaporation allows one to figure out the IMFs
of a liquid. IMFs are the attraction of molecules, by which physical properties of a liquid are
determined. There are three main types of IMFs: London dispersion forces, dipole dipole, and
hydrogen boding. London dispersion forces are the weakest IMFs due to unequal electrons and consist
of a temporary dipole. Dipole dipole forces are attractions ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The data table of IMFs of a liquid (below) display the strength of each substance. Methanol, Ethanol,
Propanol, Butanol, and Water were all hydrogen bonding, while Acetone was dipole dipole, and
Pentane was London dispersion. The rate of evaporation table shows that all the hydrogen bonding
liquids had the lowest rates of evaporation, except for Methanol whose rate was 0.113 ºC/s. This data
corresponds with the notion that stronger IMFs have slower rates of evaporation, due to more energy
and time needed to break their strong bonds. On the other hand, when a molecule lacks highly
electronegative atoms, that molecule will have a faster rate of evaporation due to its inability to attract
bonds. Pentane doesn t have any highly electronegative atoms; therefore, it was justified as to why it
had the fastest evaporation rate. Observing the bar graph below, the liquids increased (slowest to
fastest) in rate of evaporation from Butanol Propanol Water Ethanol Methanol Acetone Pentane. In
that same order, the liquids also increased from strongest to weakest IMFs. Lastly, reviewing other
groups data resulted in similar findings. Other groups had Butanol as the slowest and Pentane as the
fastest rate of

List Three Arguments For Trade Restrictions
Question Three: Your text, on page 629, lists three arguments for trade restrictions. Since economists
do not favor trade restrictions, and this is a course in Managerial Economics, make the case as an
economist against trade restrictions for these three items. Are there any arguments for trade
restrictions that most economists would support? Discuss.
The first argument for trade confinements, is that exchange limitations prevent the dumping of
products in the local market. Dumping occurs when foreign producers offer merchandise at costs
below their generation expense to drive out nearby rivalry. The second contention for exchange
restrictions, is that these aid newly developed industries. The contention is that the extent of the new
commercial enterprise is very minute and there are diseconomies that prevent them from contending
successfully with foreign producers. The third argument, is that the nation should create commercial
ventures that are needed for their protection. The argument is that regardless of the fact that the
expense of generation in these commercial ventures is high, these businesses should be local so that
the nation does not need to depend on remote makers for national safeguard merchandise.

brought about a most exceedingly awful subsidence period in the US economy (Werner, 2003).
Consistent declines in the stock exchange were additionally one of the explanations behind the
recession in the United States. Furthermore, the increment in unrefined petroleum cost was considered
an additional calculation that expanded the recession of the US as it impacted the prices of different
goods and services in the economy (Carbaugh,

The Importance Of Voting Rights
The 15th amendment states that The right of citizens of the United States to vote shall not be denied or
abridged by the United States or by any State on account of race, color, or previous condition of
servitude (Bashara). These words are not complicated, and we should be able to follow and understand
them, yet over the course of time, we have put these legal words aside. While we may have made
significant leaps in giving everyone the right to vote, there are still many factors that affect minorities
during election periods and that may end up eliminating their votes. It is clear that some counties and
cities give the majority of people an unfair advantage when it comes to voting and that minorities, or
people living in poverty, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

take the tests away from the test takers because they were taking to long; as he states on page 32 You

This number may seem large or perhaps optimistic, but the population of the African Americans living
in the United States was around 16.5 million people in the 60s. These statistics show us that only 3%
of African Americans living in the 1960s were able to overcome all the obstacles to be able to register.

there, however, this was not the case. Fannie Lou Hamer described the

Life in the Fast Lane is a classic rock song by The Eagles with an upbeat tempo; however, the lyrics
reveal a darker theme than the tune suggests. The song opens by introducing and describing the two
main characters. He was brutally handsome, and she was terminally pretty. because these are
oxymoron s it is saying that they are attractive people, but this is not the average happily ever after
romance song. This is reinforced when the song states that he was ruthless and cruel and that the one
thing they have in common is that they are good in bed. The song later reveals that they share a drug
abuse habit and party too often. This lifestyle is often looked at as glamorous but on the inside isn t as
rewarding as it seems. The second verse

Another experience is working at Jack in the Box. I have training of every station except shift leader

Benedict Arnold Essay
Benedict Arnold was a Revolutionary Hero that had a big affect on winning the war. He had boosted
many of the soldiers moral during the war with his successful raids. Moral could be considered a
reason for the Americans winning the war because it kept them going through there up and downs. To

really was. Benedict Arnold was born on January 14,1741 in Norwich, Connecticut. His ancestors
William Arnold and his family who left England because of religious persecution were the first Arnold

Arnold was a brilliant leader in the continental army, leading to many victories for the United States.
His uncommon bravery had really showed a great impression on all the soldiers, boosting their morals
even more. Arnold dedicated himself to the Revolutionary cause, sacrificing family life, health, and
financial well being for a conflict that left him physically crippled, sullied by false accusations, and
profoundly alienated from the American cause of liberty. Arnold can be considered one of the best
American Generals during the fight for independence. He was very well known for that and respected.
Though congress would never give him his deserved promotions. Now as we learn about Arnold, we
are never taught of what he did but instead of his treasury. Arnold really didn t turn on his country but
the country had turned on him for not noticing his great achievements for the fight for independence.
The only honor that was rewarded to Arnold was the Boot monument where he had fought the Battle
of Saratoga. He wasn t rewarded for his great accomplishment but just rewarded for a wounded leg.
Congress though had never motivated Arnold and always picked on him. Arnold was simple; he was a
man with great honor who fought for independence and to keep his family name respected. Arnolds
father was arrested for over drinking according to Jim Murphy, and his family name had lost much
respect. So Arnold a confident, and strong man devoted his life to gain much of

Reactive Attachment Disorder Of Children
Reactive Attachment Disorder in Children
Introduction to the Diagnosis
According to Bowlby, the founder of attachment theory, a dependable, safe, and caring relationship
with a primary caregiver is vital to an infant s psychological health (Bowlby, 1951). In particular,
children lacking a secure attachment with their primary caregivers are at risk of developing emotional
and behavioral issues (Blakely Dziadosz, 2015). Unfortunately, the human bonds normally formed in
infancy are fractured in neglected and abused children suffering from RAD (Shi, 2014). As a result,
these children become withdrawn, distrustful, and fearful of the world (Shi, 2014).

Notably, one quarter of children living in the United States will suffer from neglect and/or abuse
during their lifetime (CDC, 2016). As a consequence, the welfare system places at risk children in
foster homes, group homes, and institutions (Department of Health and Human Services (US
Department of Health and Human Services Administration for Children Youth and Families, 2015).
According to the Adoption and Foster Care Analysis and Reporting System (AFCARS), in 2014, over
400,000 children were placed into foster care with over 100,000 were waiting to be adopted (US
Department of Health and Human Services Administration for Children Youth and Families, 2015).
The majority of children in foster care are White (42%), the second highest are Blacks (24%) and third

Mercantilist ideas emphasized that nations should strive toward economic self sufficiency and that the
power of a nation should be measured by the amount of its gold and silver reserves. Ultimately, a
nation should arrange to produce everything it needed for its own citizens and sell surpluses to for
hard currency. This metal reserve, in turn, could be used in emergency situations to pay for wars or
solve shortages. Colonies, like those England had in North America, played an important part in this
economic equation. They could help England become self sufficient by producing things that could
not be made or grown there such as tobacco, sugar, and tall masts for ships. Colonists could also
provide a market for British goods, particularly manufactured products, such as woolen cloth or
beaver hats. This meant that the home economy in England could become more fully developed, while
the colonial economies were relegated to a role of supplying raw materials. To insure that the
American colonies would contribute to this overall sense of British wealth, various Navigation Acts
were passed beginning in 1650 to regulate trade between the colonies, England, and the rest of the
world. In many cases, ships carrying American products to other European countries had to stop in
England first to pay duties before continuing onward. Also, goods traveling to and from America had

Cellulite
Cellulite is a condition of adipose origin in which adipose tissue protrudes through the dermis causing
an orange peel or cottage cheese type dimpling of skin seen most commonly on the thighs and
buttocks of many post pubertal women. The initial changes leading to cellulite formation appear to be
deterioration of the capillary network, vascular changes and abnormal deposits of
glycosaminoglycans, leading to excess fluid retention within subcutaneous tissues. A variety of
treatments ranging from topical creams to laser therapies are currently available, claiming to reduce
the dimpled skin appearance however successful results are often anecdotal, subjective or not present
at all.

The inability to repair tissue damage due to continued oedema and vascular congestion can lead to
thickening and sclerosis of the fibrous septae in the superficial adipose tissue and deep dermis,
creating the clinical appearance of cellulite.
Cellulite is an unwanted condition and a rising demand for cellulite reduction has new non invasive
treatment modalities becoming popular. Currently there are numerous medications, devices and
diverse therapies that allegedly treat cellulite however there is little evidence to support long term
effectiveness. Due to the nature of cellulite, effective treatment would need to repair and strengthen
the dermis as well as expel the fat protrusion back underneath the dermis. Retinoids are thought to
increase dermal collagen fibres, allowing the dermis to prevent further herniation of fat as the collagen
deposition makes the dermis much stronger, therefore reducing the appearance of cellulite.
Endermologie is a hand held mechanical system used to simulate manual massages of the skin. It is
hypothesized that it is able to reduce the appearance of cellulite by causing damages to the
subcutaneous fat cells by positive (rolling) and negative (suction) pressures, disrupting fat cells and
allowing for better distribution of subcutaneous fat.

Theological Understandings of Mediated Grace
Theological Understandings of Mediated Grace
When approaching the concept of grace, many people often assume that it is other a mysterious force
that exists beyond human understanding. They believe that grace is a divine gift that cannot be
humanly grasped because of its supernatural nature. Others believe that mediated grace God as
experienced through the senses in a purely human manner is a vital way to bridge the ontological gap
(an extreme difference in being that separates the earthly and the divine). Christian theologians from
the beginning of the faith have debated the qualities attributed to this phenomenon because of its sheer
importance; when dealing with vastly different elements, such as humans and God, the ... Show more

While most theologians agree upon the existence and importance of mediated grace, they often
disagree upon the exact nature of its role. What this conflict yields though, is not a sense of discord
and disunity, but a greater appreciation of the immense horizon of grace as perceived by humanity.
Perhaps the most obvious example of this is the clash between Martin Luther and the tenets of the
Roman Catholic Church (represented here by their Decree on Justification that was presented at the
Council of Trent). Luther saw grace as the way to salvation, while the Catholic Church intimated that
grace itself was salvation. In his treatise on Christian Liberty, he said very great care must always be
exercised so that no man in a false confidence imagines that by such works he will be justified or
acquire merit or be saved; for this is the work of faith alone. [8] He referred to this kind of grace as
alien righteousness, which he claimed was instilled in us without our works by grace alone. [9] Unlike
the Thomistic precepts that the Council of Trent was working from (Aquinas s theory of deification),
Luther did not believe that grace affected an ontological change in the person. On the other side, the
Trent decree maintained that One truly merits salvation through good works in grace. [10] Luther felt

The Decline Of The Paleolithic Age
A. Humans began migrating across the globe during the Paleolithic Age. The human species
originated in Eastern Africa around the African Great Lakes. From there, they spread out all over
Africa. Then they moved out of Africa into Southwestern Asia. They migrated toward Europe and
from Eastern Asia down through the Pacific Islands and Australia. Many historians argue over how
humans populated the Americas, but most believe that they traveled on a land bride, connecting Russia
to North America during the Ice age. Once they reached North America, the Paleolithic people
migrated downward until they reached the tip of South America. The spread of the human species an
impressive achievement of the Paleolithic Age.
B. Agriculture was started during the Neolithic Revolution. The people in the Middle East were the
first to develop farming. Gradually, the knowledge spread to other communities in South Africa, India,
North China, and Southeast Asia. Agriculture emerged because of the end of the Ice Age. It became
harder to hind animals to hunt and farming provided a reliable source of food.
C. Sedentary agriculture lead to many changes in society. Farming gave people a reliable resource for
food, which could support a lot more people compared to hunting. Because it created a larger
population of people, it was harder to migrate in a nomadic life style. Thus, people began building
permanent homes and villages. Agriculture also caused the invention and development of new
techniques and

II. Materials and Methodology
Assay Location
The experiment proper was carried out inside a room in the Medina Residence, which is located at 5
Capt. Miyong St., San Roque, Marikina City, Metro Manila, Philippines. The room experienced
limited sunlight with temperatures that vary from 18°C to 28°C. The set up was placed on top of a
table to eliminate the possibility of animal foraging.
Species Selection
The experiment entailed the utilization of three species of plants. The first species, Oryza sativa Linn.,
was preselected while the last two species were left to the discretion of the proponent of the study.
Prudent seed selection was done to ensure the preservation of the diversity of the plant species that
will be utilized for the experiment.
O. sativa, commonly called rice, is a monocot plant. It belongs to the family of grasses, Poaceae, and
is the main source of carbohydrates in Asian countries. Solanum melongena Linn., commonly called
eggplant, in contrast is a dicot plant. The shrub belongs to the nightshade family, Solanaceae, and is
used as a source of vitamins and minerals in tropical and temperate countries. Abelmaschus esculentus
(L.) Moench, commonly called okra, is a herbaceous dicot plant. It belongs to the hibiscus family,
Malvaceae, and is also used as a source of vitamins and

Charlie Vs. Gordon Effect In Flowers For Algernon
Flowers For Algernon
In the story Flowers for Algernon, Charlie, our main character, is presented a choice to triple his IQ
for a short time and possibly forever, or to stay the way he is. It wouldn t be a good story if he turned
down the offer so of course he chose to have the operation. Later on in the story he slowly becomes
smarter, and then back to his normal self. I believe that Charlie should have had the operation because
he helped make a scientific breakthrough, It was a good experience for him, and it made people
respect him more. If we look at how he made a scientific breakthrough just think about it. Charlie was
the first human to have a successful brain operation that made him learn quicker and overall smarter
than he was. Through the course of the book, toward the middle Charlie is at his mental peak, he
begins to write a paper titled the Algernon Gordon effect. As the readers of the book we don t know

all my formulae, as well as mathematical analysis in the appendix. (Daniel Keyes, Page 218) That

Sensor Faults Essay
I. INTRODUCTION WITH the rapid development of sensor technique and its growing lower cost, a
great number of sensors are installed in modern industrial processes for measuring, monitoring and
controlling purpose. This inevitably increases the probability of sensor faults. Therefore, early
detection of sensor faults is essential to avoid performance degradation and damage to equipment.
Over the past decades, research on process monitoring and fault detection (PM FD) has attracted
considerable attention. Model based and data driven methods are two widely used types of FD
techniques [1] [4]. With the available data measurements, data driven methods attracts increasing
attention. Because the sensor measurements are highly correlated due to the ... Show more content on

While the precision degradation fault disturbs the variance/covariance of process measurements.
Compared with the large amount of research work implicitly or explicitly focused on the detection of
sensor fault type with mean vector change [17], [18], the studies on sensor precision degradation are
relatively few [14], [19]. Qin et.al. [20] proposed a subspace identification model for detecting and
identifying faulty sensors, including precision degradation type of fault. Wan et.al. [21] studied the
diagnosis of sensor precision degradation in the presence of control by minimizing the disturbance
variance. Furthermore, the successful application of CCA based method constraints to the assumption
that the residual signal follows a Gaussian distribution. In practice, fault detection is much more
challenging when the processes with complicated non Gaussian [22]. To deal with non Gaussian
challenges, some variations of the existing MVA methods have been developed. Most of them first
estimate a signal distribution and then set a threshold based on the estimated distribution for FD
purpose. We refer these methods as distribution estimationbased method, such as Gaussian Mixture
Models (GMM) based approaches [23], [24], kernel based ones [25] and sequential quantile
estimation based ones [26]. Although these approaches have applied successfully in these complicated
processes, their performance in FD are commonly limited by the selection of kernel parameters and

Friedrich Weber s Theory Of Psychology
PSYCHOLOGY
Psychology is defined as the study of thought and behavior. A substantial amount of people believes
that psychology is not a specific scientific discipline. Social sciences study humans as individuals or
as groups. The scientific method subsists of five processes, which include observation, prediction,
testing, interpretation, and communication.
Ernst Weber was born 1795 and died 1878, was one of the first developers who planned an approach
and prepared for what was accepted in psychophysics. For example, Weber explored the littlest
adjustment in weights or length that people could anticipate. In 1850, Weber had awareness that one
could exam the psychological and physical creations with his mentor, Gustav Fechner (1801 1889).
Fechner arranged the term psychological for this new development, and went on to define some of
Weber s principles of perception.
Wilhelm Wundt (1832 1920) created the first psychology laboratory in Leipzig, Germany in 1879,
which unfolded psychology into a science. He studied psychology as its ability from philosophy and
physiology. Creating a laboratory, Wundt constructed a place where students could study the science
of psychology. With more than 180 students and over 100 coming from different countries, the
students took in the knowledge of experimental psychology under Wundt s instruction.
William James (1842 1910) was known as the Father of American psychology, who studied with

Essay on Descartes Failure
Descartes Failure
In his Meditations on First Philosophy, Descartes strives first and foremost to provide an infallibly
justified foundation for the empirical sciences, and second to prove the existence of God. I will focus
on the first and second meditations in my attempt to show that, in his skepticism of the sources of
knowledge, he fails to follow the rules he has set out in the Discourse on Method. First I claim that
Descartes fails to draw the distinction between pure sensation and inference, which make up what he
calls sensation, and then consider the consequences of this failure to follow his method. Second, I will
show that in his treatment of thinking Descartes fails to distinguish between active and passive
thinking. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
His goal is the betterment of the human condition. A useful metaphor for explaining the Cartesian
system is the tree of knowledge .[3] According to Descartes the roots of knowledge are metaphysics,
to which he applies himself in the Meditations. From the metaphysics grow the physics; for they are
justified by the metaphysics; the physics are the trunk of the tree. From the physics branch off
mechanics, medicine and morals, the fruits of which take the form of utility, that is, applied science,
medicine, and applied ethics (on an interpersonal, or international level). The development of these
fruits leads to the improvement of the human condition: freedom from pain, sickness and suffering
through medicine, reduction of stresses on the body and freedom from physical labour through applied
science (which makes our work easier), and freedom from anxiety and mental strain through the
development of applied ethics (which helps us to avoid and resolve conflicts on many levels).
Descartes uses a reductionistic method. In my criticism I will take up this method as well. Descartes
can be criticized on the grounds that this may not be the best method, and is not the only one that has
been proposed as appropriate to the task of justifying beliefs.[4] Descartes uses a first person method
often called epistemic individualism, in which he takes up the position of an

The Role Of Religion And The Rise Of Capitalism
The weber thesis is the argument that turned Marx on his head: Instead of capitalism causing religion,
religion actually caused capitalism as stated in Collins (pg. 47). Weber goes on to stating as the
Catholic Church was broke down during the 1517 by Martin Luther, he abolished the monasteries, the
priests could get married but also the Bible could get translated from Latin to German so the people
could read it for themselves. This meant that the priests were just like ordinary people and people
could find their own way to embed their beliefs of God within their own lives. Weber then established
religion was having a major effect in producing modern capitalism. Max Weber and Karl Marx are
established as the two well known theorists of the 19th Century. Many argue that there are various
comparisons between these sociologist s theories, however although Marx and Weber both examined
similar ideas, they noticeably came to two drastically different conclusions. This essay will go on to
critically analyse what the role of religion was in the rise of capitalism and discuss how Weber s work
was criticised by numerous sociologists e.g. Marxism and Durkheim.
Weber s theory very quickly became recognised by many, this was because it had shown an
association between religious ideas and economic development. He was not arguing that capitalism in
general was caused by Protestantism. He was just drawing the connection between Calvinism and a
particular kind of capitalism. Both the

way that the poet has expressed himself and in how the poem comes across to the reader. The view of
the poets changes between the three, and the setting of the poem have both similarities and

He uses phrases like mammy frog and slime kings which are childlike in their use. He also makes
references to things like a child he talks about telling the weather from the frog s colour. Fern Hill
however, is written in a more grand style similar to that of an adult expressing in words a memory
which he could not have described previously as a child. Dylan Thomas tells his poem in a much more
elaborate manner to try a get across an idea that he could not do before.
Childhood is often referred to by many writers as the happiest times of your life. Seamus Heaney s
and Dylan Thomas s poems show that they believe in that principle. However, DH Lawrence s poems
show that he did not have a happy childhood and he makes that point abundantly clear. In Death of a
Naturalist , Heaney shows that he once had a love of nature but, after one incident, he lost that love
forever. The structure of the poem shows his change of opinion: the first verse uses adjectives and nice
images that infer that the subject he is talking about is one that he likes; but the style of language
changes in the second verse where the vocabulary used shows the reader that the poet now does not
like his poem subject at all. Words like rank ,
coarse and obscene are used as negative adjectives in the second verse, so enforcing the view that he
has now lost his love for nature.

Social Media And The Communication Style Of The Millennials
According to Angelo Young in How social media is dumbing down our communication , the large
number of people who use the internet in generation X only had one or two accounts, texting was
boring and expensive, and mobile phone is designed only to call other people. Technology develops
rapidly on social media, which changes the communication style of the Millennials, the group of
people born at the beginning of the 21st century and in the 20th century. Communication is a process
of sharing not only information and ideas but also meanings and feelings. However, social media is
changing the way people communicate with each other. Social media have made differences in the
communication style of the Millennials in contrast to the previous generation in the context of the
communication form and the way people share their feelings. Social media has brought differences

Sea Level Training Essay
When it comes to gaining an advantage, athletes will do everything in their power to make sure that
they are able to outperform their competition. One currently legal method of accomplishing this is by
going to a high altitude location, which increases the amount of oxygen getting to the tissues. This
supposedly increases the amount of red blood cells in your body, and gives you an advantage if you
were to perform back at sea level. However, should this be considered a reliable training technique or
is it not worth the effort? Regardless of the elevation you are at on earth, the percentage of oxygen
(21%), carbon dioxide (.03%), and nitrogen (79%) remain the same. Though, as you increase your
elevation the pressure of the air decreases. This is because there is less pressure pushing down on the
air as you move up through the levels of the atmosphere. As a result, the partial pressures decrease. At
sea level the pressure of air is 760 mmHg, while at the peak of Mount Everest (extreme example) it is
about 230 mmHg, showing that oxygen will have a lower partial pressure as you increase in altitude.
This also affects the pressure gradient from the lungs to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is because peripheral chemoreceptors are able to detect changes in arterial oxygen levels within
the blood. When levels become low enough, the receptors become excited and send the information to
an area of the central nervous system that is responsible for respiration rate and depth of breathing.
This is why most people hyperventilate when they increase their altitude, to try and make up for the
oxygen that their body is lacking. The pressure gradient is also affected at the tissues. Arterial blood
has a partial pressure of 100 mmHg normally, while the partial pressure in the tissues is about 40
mmHg. However, as you increase in altitude the arterial blood pressure decreases, causing the
pressure gradient to decrease and less oxygen to enter the

The Global Supply Chain Network
Executive Summary
The global supply chain network is often faces challenges in many directions. Currently the
environmental issues and the exhaustion of natural resources leads to complications and become the
prime factors which affects the cost, time and effort in global logistics and supply chain management.
An analysis of the Montreal based Cirque de soleil is done with various factors and criteria for
evaluation of the key issues. The key issues are distribution complexities, increasing transportation
cost, production inefficiency, delivery lead times and logistics partnership strategies. The objective is
to streamline the global supply chain network by redesigning the existing system with new integrated
model using CPFR (Collaborative Planning Forecasting and Replenishment). This concept is
effectively supported by the SAP System which integrates the demand management, better sales
forecasting, effective distribution and timely replenishment.
The analysis results with the identification of locations for the new distribution model and
substantiated with the rationale of site selection considering all criteria s. The implementation and the
SAP integration describe the action plans and come out with the pros and cons of the proposed supply
chain system. And finally concludes with the pros and cons of the new system. The objectives of the

The Importance Of Planned Parenthood
Planned Parenthood, a nonprofit organization which provides affordable reproductive care, currently
receives government funding. Those in need of affordable health care can go to PPFA for STI
treatment, pap smears, and prevention of unintended pregnancies. The problem arises in PPFA s
prevention of unintended pregnancies, particularly abortion. But abortion is not the only issue the
public finds in the organization. The public has recently questioned PPFA s integrity and motives as
their controversial actions are exposed. Government funded health care should be easily accessible for
all people, but Planned Parenthood is not the organization for this. Instead, the government should
push its funds towards organizations whose practices are not controversial and still provide quality
health care.
Although Planned Parenthood provides other affordable health care services for men, women, and
children, many people find their service of abortion controversial and seek to defund them specifically
for the discontinuation of this practice. Abortion was legalized under the Roe vs Wade case in 1973
and soon after, PPFA made it one of their available services so they could provide maximum
reproductive health care for all women. Since its legalization, abortion has taken the lives of nearly
sixty million children. Out of the sixty million, PPFA is responsible for 7.7 million (Number of
Abortions). Defunding the organization would cause 1) an increase in birth rates, 2) an increase in

Mexican And American Family Traditions
On the fourth Thursday of every November, families gather together to spend a day filled with food
and laughter. Thanksgiving celebrates the day the settlers and the Native Americans enjoyed their first
meal together. However, my parents were both raised in Mexico and never had a typical yearly
Thanksgiving celebration. Despite my parents home being Mexico, they started a family in America
and decided to teach their children about both of the places they come from. A compromise between
American and Mexican traditions formed and served as a family tradition until last year. A year ago,
my family ate a Thanksgiving meal at my sister s parent in laws house. From the second someone
gazes at the table, everything appears different. Although the shape of the table resembled the long
wooden rectangular table my family owns, nothing else contained similarities. For starters, the red

human interventions and human inventive developed over millennia. Crop diversity helps when trying
feeding growing populations with smaller amount of cropland. Crop biodiversity is used in several
different ways like pest control, pollination, pollution and sediment regulation, maintenance of the
hydrological cycle, erosion control, and climate regulation and carbon sequestration.
Crop diversity in pest control has made a big impact on growing crops in areas that are dominated by
pests that would eat up a crop as soon as it flowers. Crop biodiversity has made crops able to
withstand roundup and different types of pesticides, which keep pests off the crops while they are
growing. Thus letting crops grow to their full potential in area of the country that before crop diversity

(United States), 2015).
The Republican and Democrats have many similarities and differences. Republicans want less

simplification, the only reason it has yet to be changed because no one knows how to change it. In
addition to this they are both for change in the voting system which could mean short lines and free

The Importance Of The First Earthquake In Canada
Currently, the prediction of the Big One is causing a lot of disturbance and fear among people who
lived along the coastline of British Columbia. The Big One stands for a Cascadia Megathrust
earthquake with magnitude around 9 and it has at least twelve percent probability of hitting Vancouver
within the next fifty years ( ). The validity of this prediction has been questioned by many, however,
scientific explanation has proven that the Big One will happen in the future sooner or later. British
Columbia has the highest earthquake risk in Canada; several thousand small earthquakes are recorded
in B.C. every year. Therefore, the Big One is going to happen, and it will cause different scales of
damage such as geological and economical ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Recently, District of North Vancouver has released the results of a detailed five year study that models
a shallow 7.3 magnitude earthquake, with epicentre in the Strait of Georgia, risk in the municipality.
Although this might not be the worst case scenario,it still provides useful information in terms of
determining the vulnerability of North Vancouver facing an earthquake. The bright side of the
evaluation is that majority of people live in wood frame houses, which are inherently better able to
withstand earthquake damage and most are built on stable, solid ground. That would be especially
important if an earthquake struck at night, when most people are home. The dark side is that areas
likely to be most impacted by ground shaking and soil failure in an earthquake, especially buildings in
several low lying waterfront areas would likely be topple as sandy soils were subject to liquefaction
just like the below figure has shown where the red parts indicate areas near the shore or the waterfront
is facing structural failure and danger of collapse. Looking to the upper regions, it is shown in this
scenario that these areas would receive no significant structural damage when experienced a 7.3
magnitude earthquake. In general, North Vancouver is less dangerous under the condition

Bullying is defined as the mistreatment of others, through the abuse of power. The various forms
bullying can take are, physical, verbal and mental abuse. The Short Story The Birthmark written in
1843, implicates the harsh realities of verbal and mental abuse. In 1843, society was male dominated,
as females were continually objectified and seen as unimportant. Aylmer abuses this era s male
dominance to tyrannize his wife, Georgiana s, birthmark. At first, she is hesitant as she and other
males see no problem with the scar. As an audience we the strength of being the ideal wife to your
husband, and fulfilling his desires. Aylmer displays his disgust towards the blemish through verbal
ridicule, and harsh convulsions. Her husband tenderly kissed her cheek her right cheek not that which
bore the impress of the crimson hand (Hawthorne 3) , further demonstrating the extremities at which
he is revolted by the mark she bares, going as far as avoidance. Moreover, his words and actions
display a visible impact upon Georgina, influencing her to take action to remove the scar. It portrays
the mental effects of bullying on an individual. Bullying is a topic that has always been associated to
as one of the grandest problems of the educational system. As an adolescent, I was constantly bullied.
Fellow peers would comment on my weight and my style amongst various other things. This had
convinced me that I was the problem. Forth, I took initiative attempting to alter my fashion

Book Review on Blood Red Snow
Blood Red Snow, by Gunter K. Koschorrek is a graphic rendition of the German War in the Eastern
front, which began in 1942. Koschorrek is a former German soldier who kept a frequent account of his
experience in the steppes of Russia and the advancement of the German battalion in Stalingrad.
Written as a memoir, Koschorrek s writing serves as a first hand account of the tank and cavalry
warfare in the Eastern front. Rather than glorifying the heroic aspects of death and destruction in war,
Koschorrek s strives to give a realistic account of the bitter struggle and retreat of the German army
during World War II. His documentation of his experiences in Blood Red Snow serves as a tribute to
the survivors as well as the fallen soldiers of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The production focuses on the period before and during Koschorrek s station in Stalingrad and places
Hitler s decision for a two front war in a historical context. The documentary covers the massive
success of Operation Barbarossa , Hitler s artillery barrage strategy in 1941 up until the retreat of the
German army in 1943. Hitler Turns East tells the audience how the German army ultimately failed
despite its initial success. Although the German army quickly and powerfully dissolved Soviet
defenses, the Red Army bought the German troops to a standstill. These aspects of the documentary
are clearly accounted by Koschorrek in far more, firsthand detail in his memoir. The Soviet Army
continually drives the German troops from their positions and this is specifically shown in Koschorrek
s entry of November 20th and December 13th 1942. Stationed along the Don, a river running along
Stalingrad, Koschorrek records the Russians have also broken through, Romanian lines in the south,
and are coming at us from both sides, trying to take us in a pincer movement . The documentary
specifically remarks on the pincer strategy of the Soviet troops, a method that attempts to encircle and
surround troops but cutting off defense lines at both sides. The documentary also remarks on the
involvement of Romanian troops while Koschorreck goes into more detail of their social behavior (as
soldiers) rather than

This line, found in Defense of Offensive Comedy by Eva Woods, does a marvelous job at displaying the issues with creating a line for offensive humor. The quote demonstrates how one group would find a joke funny, while another would be appalled that anyone could make a joke about such a subject. Due to the fact that no subject would have be fair game if we drew a line for offensive humor, I believe there is no such thing as offensive humor because it limits what comedians can say. • 4. The Great Depression Was The Single Most Devastating... The Great Depression was the single most devastating economic catastrophe that had resounding effects and consequences on people all over the world. Did the various expansionary monetary policies employed by the Fed help the US pull out of the Great Depression during the Hoover administration? What was done differently after Roosevelt became president? Many economists and historians have argued that the misguided monetary policies during the Hoover administration including the mistiming of interest hike, allowance of the decrease in national money supply and reluctance in expansionary monetary policies due to the maintenance of the gold standard were contributive to the length and severity of the Great Depression. Several estimates from various models have suggested that the mistakes made in the monetary policies during the same period contributed to around 20 to 70% of the decline in real output during the Hoover administration (Fishback, 2010, pg 386). After the Roosevelt administration took control in 1933, recovery began primarily due to the abandonment of the gold standard and the appointment of Eugene Black as the Chair of the Federal Reserve. This argument is backed by numerous case studies, economic models, and research papers. Researching these two questions would provide a deeper insight into some of the monetary policies implemented today and also make sure that history doesn t repeat itself. The documentary focuses on humanizing the five men in efforts to put a face to injustice. Their incarceration was a result of socioeconomic factors combined with the institutional racism that is embedded not only within our judicial system but permeates our society as a whole. The Lab manual defines rate of evaporation (ºC/s) as temperature change divided by the amount of time taken to reach the lowest temperature. Factors such as the intermolecular forces (IMFs) of a molecule determine the rate of evaporation. Observing the rate of evaporation allows one to figure out the IMFs of a liquid. IMFs are the attraction of molecules, by which physical properties of a liquid are determined. There are three main types of IMFs: London dispersion forces, dipole dipole, and hydrogen boding. London dispersion forces are the weakest IMFs due to unequal electrons and consist of a temporary dipole. Dipole dipole forces are attractions ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The data table of IMFs of a liquid (below) display the strength of each substance. Methanol, Ethanol, Propanol, Butanol, and Water were all hydrogen bonding, while Acetone was dipole dipole, and Pentane was London dispersion. The rate of evaporation table shows that all the hydrogen bonding liquids had the lowest rates of evaporation, except for Methanol whose rate was 0.113 ºC/s. This data corresponds with the notion that stronger IMFs have slower rates of evaporation, due to more energy and time needed to break their strong bonds. On the other hand, when a molecule lacks highly electronegative atoms, that molecule will have a faster rate of evaporation due to its inability to attract bonds. Pentane doesn t have any highly electronegative atoms; therefore, it was justified as to why it had the fastest evaporation rate. Observing the bar graph below, the liquids increased (slowest to fastest) in rate of evaporation from Butanol Propanol Water Ethanol Methanol Acetone Pentane. In that same order, the liquids also increased from strongest to weakest IMFs. Lastly, reviewing other groups data resulted in similar findings. Since economists do not favor trade restrictions, and this is a course in Managerial Economics, make the case as an economist against trade restrictions for these three items. Are there any arguments for trade restrictions that most economists would support? Discuss. The first argument for trade confinements, is that exchange limitations prevent the dumping of products in the local market. Dumping occurs when foreign producers offer merchandise at costs below their generation expense to drive out nearby rivalry. The second contention for exchange restrictions, is that these aid newly developed industries. The contention is that the extent of the new commercial enterprise is very minute and there are diseconomies that prevent them from contending successfully with foreign producers. The third argument, is that the nation should create commercial ventures that are needed for their protection. The argument is that regardless of the fact that the expense of generation in these commercial ventures is high, these businesses should be local so that the nation does not need to depend on remote makers for national safeguard merchandise. Colonies, like those England had in North America, played an important part in this economic equation. They could help England become self sufficient by producing things that could not be made or grown there such as tobacco, sugar, and tall masts for ships. Colonists could also provide a market for British goods, particularly manufactured products, such as woolen cloth or beaver hats. This meant that the home economy in England could become more fully developed, while the colonial economies were relegated to a role of supplying raw materials. Perhaps the most obvious example of this is the clash between Martin Luther and the tenets of the Roman Catholic Church (represented here by their Decree on Justification that was presented at the Council of Trent). Luther saw grace as the way to salvation, while the Catholic Church intimated that grace itself was salvation. In his treatise on Christian Liberty, he said very great care must always be exercised so that no man in a false confidence imagines that by such works he will be justified or acquire merit or be saved; for this is the work of faith alone. • 24. Sensor Faults Essay I. INTRODUCTION WITH the rapid development of sensor technique and its growing lower cost, a great number of sensors are installed in modern industrial processes for measuring, monitoring and controlling purpose. This inevitably increases the probability of sensor faults. Therefore, early detection of sensor faults is essential to avoid performance degradation and damage to equipment. Over the past decades, research on process monitoring and fault detection (PM FD) has attracted considerable attention. Model based and data driven methods are two widely used types of FD techniques [1] [4]. With the available data measurements, data driven methods attracts increasing attention. Because the sensor measurements are highly correlated due to the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... While the precision degradation fault disturbs the variance/covariance of process measurements. Compared with the large amount of research work implicitly or explicitly focused on the detection of sensor fault type with mean vector change [17], [18], the studies on sensor precision degradation are relatively few [14], [19]. Qin et.al. [20] proposed a subspace identification model for detecting and identifying faulty sensors, including precision degradation type of fault. Wan et.al. [21] studied the diagnosis of sensor precision degradation in the presence of control by minimizing the disturbance variance. Furthermore, the successful application of CCA based method constraints to the assumption that the residual signal follows a Gaussian distribution. In practice, fault detection is much more challenging when the processes with complicated non Gaussian [22]. To deal with non Gaussian challenges, some variations of the existing MVA methods have been developed. Most of them first estimate a signal distribution and then set a threshold based on the estimated distribution for FD purpose. We refer these methods as distribution estimationbased method, such as Gaussian Mixture Models (GMM) based approaches [23], [24], kernel based ones [25] and sequential quantile estimation based ones [26]. Although these approaches have applied successfully in these complicated processes, their performance in FD are commonly limited by the selection of kernel parameters and other specified ... • 25. Friedrich Weber s Theory Of Psychology PSYCHOLOGY Psychology is defined as the study of thought and behavior. A substantial amount of people believes that psychology is not a specific scientific discipline. Social sciences study humans as individuals or as groups. The scientific method subsists of five processes, which include observation, prediction, testing, interpretation, and communication. Ernst Weber was born 1795 and died 1878, was one of the first developers who planned an approach and prepared for what was accepted in psychophysics. For example, Weber explored the littlest adjustment in weights or length that people could anticipate. In 1850, Weber had awareness that one could exam the psychological and physical creations with his mentor, Gustav Fechner (1801 1889). Fechner arranged the term psychological for this new development, and went on to define some of Weber s principles of perception. Wilhelm Wundt (1832 1920) created the first psychology laboratory in Leipzig, Germany in 1879, which unfolded psychology into a science. He studied psychology as its ability from philosophy and physiology. Creating a laboratory, Wundt constructed a place where students could study the science of psychology. With more than 180 students and over 100 coming from different countries, the students took in the knowledge of experimental psychology under Wundt s instruction. Essay on Descartes Failure Descartes Failure In his Meditations on First Philosophy, Descartes strives first and foremost to provide an infallibly justified foundation for the empirical sciences, and second to prove the existence of God. I will focus on the first and second meditations in my attempt to show that, in his skepticism of the sources of knowledge, he fails to follow the rules he has set out in the Discourse on Method. First I claim that Descartes fails to draw the distinction between pure sensation and inference, which make up what he calls sensation, and then consider the consequences of this failure to follow his method. His goal is the betterment of the human condition. A useful metaphor for explaining the Cartesian system is the tree of knowledge .[3] According to Descartes the roots of knowledge are metaphysics, to which he applies himself in the Meditations. From the metaphysics grow the physics; for they are justified by the metaphysics; the physics are the trunk of the tree. From the physics branch off mechanics, medicine and morals, the fruits of which take the form of utility, that is, applied science, medicine, and applied ethics (on an interpersonal, or international level). The development of these fruits leads to the improvement of the human condition: freedom from pain, sickness and suffering through medicine, reduction of stresses on the body and freedom from physical labour through applied science (which makes our work easier), and freedom from anxiety and mental strain through the development of applied ethics (which helps us to avoid and resolve conflicts on many levels). Descartes uses a reductionistic method. In my criticism I will take up this method as well. Descartes can be criticized on the grounds that this may not be the best method, and is not the only one that has been proposed as appropriate to the task of justifying beliefs.[4] Descartes uses a first person method often called epistemic individualism, in which he takes up the position of an ... • 30. The Role Of Religion And The Rise Of Capitalism The weber thesis is the argument that turned Marx on his head: Instead of capitalism causing religion, religion actually caused capitalism as stated in Collins (pg. 47). Weber goes on to stating as the Catholic Church was broke down during the 1517 by Martin Luther, he abolished the monasteries, the priests could get married but also the Bible could get translated from Latin to German so the people could read it for themselves. This meant that the priests were just like ordinary people and people could find their own way to embed their beliefs of God within their own lives. Weber then established religion was having a major effect in producing modern capitalism. Max Weber and Karl Marx are established as the two well known theorists of the 19th Century. Many argue that there are various comparisons between these sociologist s theories, however although Marx and Weber both examined similar ideas, they noticeably came to two drastically different conclusions. This essay will go on to critically analyse what the role of religion was in the rise of capitalism and discuss how Weber s work was criticised by numerous sociologists e.g. Marxism and Durkheim. Weber s theory very quickly became recognised by many, this was because it had shown an association between religious ideas and economic development. He was not arguing that capitalism in general was caused by Protestantism. He was just drawing the connection between Calvinism and a particular kind of capitalism. Both the ... One currently legal method of accomplishing this is by going to a high altitude location, which increases the amount of oxygen getting to the tissues. This supposedly increases the amount of red blood cells in your body, and gives you an advantage if you were to perform back at sea level. However, should this be considered a reliable training technique or is it not worth the effort? Regardless of the elevation you are at on earth, the percentage of oxygen (21%), carbon dioxide (.03%), and nitrogen (79%) remain the same. Though, as you increase your elevation the pressure of the air decreases. This is because there is less pressure pushing down on the air as you move up through the levels of the atmosphere. As a result, the partial pressures decrease.
