Emerging Adulthood and Sexuality in Latin American...
The main idea of this paper is to discuss the sexual and reproductive health of Latin American
immigrants in Madrid, briefly approaching three different questions: do they believe that there are
differences about sexual and reproductive health issues between what they lived in their countries
and Spain?; are they having different behaviors in Spainthan in their origin countries and, if so,
which ones?; and finally, what do they perceived about sexual healthservices and access in Spain?
Regular Latin American immigrant s sexuality in Europe has been rarely addressed by researchers.
Even the known importance of irregular migration sexuality studies, because of the risks and
vulnerability to which migrants are exposed, we should ask ... Show more content on

The Ecological Theory is not being probed in this research; it is limited to be an organizing tool.
The interview guide that we use tried to include all the systems in the theory (macro, micro, meso,
exo, and crhono5), and their probable relations through different issues, which will correspond to
one or more systems. However, even the theory would not define the study, it contributes to the
design.
Grounded theory interprets data from the reality of the individual, and it can be understand under
the social construction of reality, according to Berger and Luckman6. Also, it is directly related
with the concept of sexuality as a social construction. Weeks3 emphasis, when talking about the
social construction of sexuality, that sexuality is not a given fact, it is a product of negotiation,
struggle, and human actions (pp 30).
Emerging adulthood was proposed in 2000 by Jeffrey Arnett,2 to described the group of people
aged 18 29 years old. The theory basically includes 5 principles that can change between countries
due to cultural backgrounds: instability (work, love, education); exploration of identity; Self focus
on personal goals; feeling in between (adult adolescent); high hopes for the future, positives ideas.
It has been argued that not all young people can live this stage because not everyone in the world

Food Security Regulations
There are different levels of regulations for food security in Australia such as Federal, State, and
local levels.
Definition
Food safety can be defined as a scientific regulation expressing treatment of food, its preparation,
transportation and most importantly its labeling and storage in ways that blocks foodborne virus.
This includes a number of practices that should be trailed to prevent possible food related health
hazards in all the ways.
Background
A Policy is signed by the Australia and New Zealand Food Regulation Ministerial Council
(Ministerial Council) which is used by the statutory authority Food Standards Australia New
Zealand (FSANZ) to develop food standards for the Australia and New Zealand Food Standards
Code. (www.health.gov.au)... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Food Regulation Agreement s main aim is to provide safe food panels to protect public health and
safety; reduce the regulatory problems in the food business and provide economical compliance and
enforcement measures; provide a consistent regulatory approach across Australia; recognize that
food safety responsibility encompasses a variety of portfolios across all levels of government;
support the joint Australia and New Zealand efforts to harmonies food standards; and facilitate
harmonization of domestic and export standards and their harmonization with New Zealand and
other international standards.
Food Standards Australia New Zealand (FSANZ) develops food standards in line with this policy,
which are then published in the Australia New Zealand Food Standards Code. And this comes
under Federal Level
The Department of Agriculture administers relevant legislation at the border. All imported food
must meet Australian quarantine requirements (under the Quarantine Act) and is then subject to
the requirements of the Imported Food Control Act. Federal

Lab Report On Ultrasound Treatment
Ultrasound treatment was done according to method by [21] with some modifications. Ultrasonic
probe (JY92 IIN, Ningbo Scientz Biotechnology Co. Ltd, Ningbo, China) was used, with
maximum power 1000Watt, frequency 25 kHz and probe diameter of 13mm. Pectin solutions were
treated at 60% duty cycles, sonication times was fixed at 20 minutes, sonication power (200 and
400 watts). Effect of acidity on sonication was determined at pH2, 4 and 6, by adjusting solution pH
using acetic acid. Native pectin 0.25g was put in 250ml beaker suspended in 100ml deionized
water to achieve low viscosity, it was stirred on a magnetic stirrer for 30 minutes, and sonic
treatment was done by immersing sonic probe up to 1cm deep in the solution. After treatment, the
suspension was precipitated with equal volume of 95%v/v ethanolto precipitate pectin. The content
was centrifuged at 7500xg and filtrate removed. the precipitate was left in fume cupboard to
remove ethanol traces then re dissolved in deionized water and frozen at 45бґјC and eventually
freeze dried for further analysis. Ultrasound intensity was predicted according to the following
equation
I=P/(ПЂr^2 )
Where I= intensity, r =radius of the sonic probe and P= ultrasonic power. 4.2.5. Molecular weight
determination
The effect of sonication on pectin molecular weight was evaluated on HPSEC according to the
method described by [36,37]. The analysis was carried out on a HPSEC system equipped with a

Buddhism in Vietnam Essay
Buddhism in Vietnam The Vietnamese people have said to have first appeared in the Christian
era, because the religion that was first adapted was Christianity. This would explain why the
Vietnamese people are such religious people. But it does not really explain there major religion
change to Buddhism, because Buddhism is really not a religion that is native to Vietnam. Buddhism
my be one of the most known religions in the world by name, but not by what is actually involved
in it. Christinethe girl that I interview said that many people think that the religion is a cult but she

Buddhism was at the highest between the eleventh and the fifteenth centuries. Countless times
Buddhism has given many societies the answers that they were looking for in political and social
questions. Buddhism still today offers support form the invasion of western ideas. Even though
Buddhism has always been big in Vietnam you will only now mainly see it when the country is
going through difficult times. According to Buddhist thought, human salvation lies in discovering
the four truths that man is born to suffer in successive lives, that the cause of the suffering is man s
craving for earthly pleasures and possessions, that the suffering ceases upon his deliverance from
his craving, and that he achieves this deliverance by following the noble eightfold path (Buddhism
1987). Buddhism is something that is known by the Vietnamese as a use of escape from reality, and
this mainly because it is known to relate to all. Buddhism was all about All Men are Equal as
opposed to the strict hierarchical structure of Confucianism (Vietnamese Buddhism). It s distinctive
feature is that it rejects the search for the truth in the scared text: Man immediately recognizes in
his own heart the true heart of Buddha , the absolute substance of all beings. For those who, thus
change within themselves, become conscious of their unity with Buddha, for those who manage to

Essay On Racism In To Kill A Mockingbird
Although some people think that the problems of civil rights is gone, it is more present than ever.
Racial discrimination is occurring in many ways and prejudice is a huge contributing factor which
many people don t realize. In her novel, To Kill a Mockingbird, Harper Lee shows a family in the
South during the 1930 s, experience prejudice at the extreme. Young Scout, who is the narrator,
lives in Maycomb, Alabamawhere there is a lot of racism. Because of this, many problems erupt
when people try to change the towns ways. Scout grows throughout the book as she experiences
many events that test her strength. In the novel, Lee uses the characterization of Scout to

Francis saying this further helps Scout understand the discrimination, because she now knows that
even family will turn on her. During the spring, Scout s brother Jem ruins the yard of their
conservative, old, neighbor, Mrs. Dubose. As a punishment, both of the Finch children are
forced to take care of her. When they are at her house, she rudely scoffs, Your father s no better
than the niggers and trash that he works for! (102) The author uses the word trash to show Scout
that some people who are very selfish use derogatory words like trash to display their feelings.
Additionally, trash is a very insulting word to call someone, especially because Scout knows
what it means. Mrs. Dubose yelling at the children causes Scout to get a better picture of what the
reality of their world is. All of these examples from the novel, illustrate how Scout is learning
about racism in many forms by witnessing the actions and language of others. Later in the story,
Scout becomes more aware of racism around her and starts to question the town s discriminatory
ways. When Scout comes home from Mrs. Dubose s house, she is really upset. She is mad because
Mrs. Dubose had said some really harsh things to her about Atticus. After this, Scout starts
questioning to Atticus what a nigger lover is. After he explains that it s just a nonsense word,

Personal Legend In The Alchemist
In the novel, The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho throughout Santiago s long adventurous journey he
meets people that change the script in his play of life. When a shepherd named Santiago was on his
way to meet the beautiful merchant s daughter, he is confronted by a king who directs him to his
personal legend. Santiago decides to pursue his journey to find his personal legend and meets many
important characters along the way. Santiago was destined to meet these certain characters such as
the crystal merchant, Fatima, and the King of Salem so they can reflect on one another s lives and
through finding their own personal legends they help redirect his.
The first significant person to direct Santiago to his personal legend was the King of Salem. The
King of Salem is the character that introduces Santiago to his personal legend and what a
personal legend is. Through this it adjusts Santiago s path and desires to find out what the Old
King was talking about. None of what the old man was saying made much sense to the boy. But
he wanted to know what the mysterious force was; (22). By this little spiel from the Old King
Santiago takes a turn in his life. He suddenly is curious about this hidden treasure and is
determined to find out more. If Santiago never met the King of Salem then he never would ve

The Religious Believer s Explanation for the Existence of...
The problem of evil and suffering presents a real problem to the religious believer because it
compels them to accept conflicting claims that are logically impossible to reconcile. Religious
followers often question the nature of God and whether or not he is the type of God we are led to
believe. St Augustine said that if Godcannot stop evil and suffering he is not all powerful if he
will not stop evil and suffering then he is not all good. However Augustine did not actually
believe this to be true he set it out as something which he was going to solve. Surely God can do all
that is logically possible if he created the world out of nothing. If God is supposedly all knowing
then he should know how to stop evil and suffering. If God is all... Show more content on

J.L. Mackie a modern philosopher had a similar approach to Hume and he believed that God could
not be both omnibenevolent and omnipotent if evil exists. He labelled this the inconsistent triad
and believed that you could not have all three conflicting claims at once.
Flew another modern philosopher looked at the possibility that God may not love us. He
believed the biggest challenge to the believer is allowing the challenge of God s existence and
demanding an answer. He said it is not enough to just say that God s love is different to ours
because it is the simplest explanation. If we do this we are just qualifying God s love as opposed
to demanding a solution and finding good reason why he should not intervene.
A possible solution to the problem of evil is the Augustinian theodicy which is based on Genesis. St
Augustine argued that in genesis 1 God is seen as creating a world that is perfectly good and
free from defect. He said that this was clearly outlined in G1:31 where it says God saw what he
had made and it was very good. He believed that evil itself is not a thing or substance therefore
God did not create it. Augustine argue that evil was the going wrong of something good and as a
result Augustine termed evil as a privation of a good that did not come from God but entities with
free will such as angels and humans who were willing to give

Phonology
1 Introduction:
Phonology is the study of how sounds function within a given language. The
study of English phonology for our purposes can be divided into two broad approaches: segmental
and suprasegmental.
Segmental phonology is a bottom up view of phonology which deals
with the individual sounds which make a difference to meaning. These are called phonemes and
their effect can be seen clearly in the following example: * Red (colour). * Read (past tense of the
verb to read). * Read (present tense of the verb to read).
The pronunciation of 1 and 2 is the
same; they are homophones. The spelling of 2 and 3 is the same; they are homographs. All three
examples are made of 3 distinct phonemes /r/... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The English diphthongs are:
Tripthongs also exist. These are diphthongs followed by a schwa /Й™У™/. Some examples of
tripthongs are shower, lower, lawyer. The schwa is the most common phonemein English.
Essentially it is the default unstressed or weak vowel sound. In British English, the schwa can be
found at the end of all words ending er (e.g., father, mother); note that we do not pronounce
4
To illustrate the schwa, imagine your mouth as a car gear box. The schwa is the sound where
neutral would be in a gear box.

The schwa also occurs in the middle and at the beginning of words and holds the key to many of
our students listening problems. Task 3: What difficulties can the schwa (or other weak sounds)
cause in your teaching context? How do you deal with these difficulties?
Stress timing and syllable timing
English is said to be a stress timed language. This means that the timing between stressed words is
regular. Crucially, however, the number of syllable between stresses is not regular (like in Italian
which is syllable timed). The most common illustration of this is the following exercise:

At a normal pace (not too fast) try counting:

Incompetence Is Considered An Effective Employee
If an employee has been guilty of serious misconduct, habitual neglect of duty, incompetence or
conduct incompatible with his duties, or prejudicial to the employer s business, or if he has been
guilty of willful disobedience to the employer s orders in a matter of substance, the law recognizes
the employer s right summarily to dismiss the delinquent employee.
This definition of just cause, which was set in 1967 by the Ontario Court of Appeal, continues to be
referred to today. When just cause is proved, an employee can be dismissed without notice or
compensation. Just cause can be defined as, employee conduct that amounts to a fundamental
breach of the employment contract. Just cause can be found through any one of the following ...

The employer may even input a program to assist the employee in increasing their performance.
Unionized or tenured employees are a special case when it comes to being able to dismiss an
incompetent employee. For example, a professor, who has tenure, fits the special case of an
employee who has worked for numerous years in the position and is then seemingly guaranteed the
job for life. College administrators frequently claim that faculty tenure prevents them from adapting
the curriculum more effectively to accommodate changes in the economy and to the patterns of
student demand. Which is why some commentators, of course, welcome the collapse of the tenure
system, saying tenure provides job security for indolent and incompetent professors. 4 Situations as
above, makes people question why professors with tenure are able to get away with being
incompetent, but other employees need to be careful and avoid it.
The current precedent case in Canada acting as the authority in situations of dismissal on grounds
of incompetence can be found in the Manitoba Court of Queen s Bench ruling of Boulet v.
Federated Co operatives Limited; the decision delivered June 25th, 2001. This case became known
for establishing the set of criteria in which

Theme Of Sonrisas By Pat Mora
Sonrisas , by Pat Mora, is a delicately written poem that offers a necessary perception of the two
lives that almost every adult will live between. True to its postmodern roots, Sonrisas is a poem
that simply seeks to describe and contrast the dull, formal, and sometimes lifeless experience of the
working world with the more exciting, colorful, and warm home experience. This essay will
explore the multiple ways in which Mora uses symbols, structure, juxtaposition, sensory images,
and other figurative devices to describe the experience and atmosphere of the work environment and
home environment and in so doing develop a contrast between the two, as seen from the perspective
of a Mexican. Symbolism and structure are both central to understanding... Show more content on

Through expert use of diction, sensory images, and tautology Mora establishes a vivid depiction
of the formal and bland atmosphere of the corporate environment, and the warm, noisy, and

description of the two worlds both physically on the page and figuratively in the reader s mind,
emphasizing the differences between the workplace and the speaker s home. Mora elegantly uses
symbols two represent her focus points and then through symmetry of structure and information
enhances the distinction between the world of work and world of home. Sonrisas , though told
from the perspective of a Mexican, clearly depicts and smoothly contrasts a reality that almost
everyone can relate to. The poem needs no deeper meaning, or message; it simply stands as a

The Legalization Of Birth Control
Griswold vs. Connecticut The legalization of Birth Control Ashley Barreras August 10, 2015
Political Science Imagine living in a world where birth control did not exist or was considered
illegal to all women. This is the reality that women from our history dealt with for many years.
Until the year 1965 birth control was banned for women living in the state of Connecticut.
Whether married or unmarried the simple right of contraception, or asking a pharmacist about
preventing pregnancy was illegal. This law prohibiting the practice of contraception was changed
with the help of birth control activist such as Estelle Griswold. Griswold appealed the law in the
popularly known case of Griswold vs. Connecticut. Her claim for legalized birth control helped
changed the future for women living in the state of Connecticut. The revised law gave married
women the freedom and privacy to take charge of their bodies and prevent unwanted pregnancies
with the practice of birth control. Birth control was illegal in the state of Connecticut until the
1960s. The reasoning behind prohibiting any form of contraception was influenced by Protestant
moral reformers as well as middle class women from the1870s. The leader of the purity movement
was Anthony Comstock who was a Postal Inspector and responsible for most of the anti
contraception laws. Together he worked with other activist and created a social purity movement
that assisted to outlaw the ideas of contraception. These activist

Factors Of Colonialism In Malaysia
Colonialism has to do with one country exploiting another country by making it into a colony.
This is usually good for the mother country and bad for the colony.According to Collin dictionary,
colonialism can be defined as the policy and practice of a power in extending control over weaker
peoples or areas. In simple word, colonialismis the practice by which a powerful countries and use

Organizations and the mass media were used in the struggle. The education received by the citizens

Indigenous Struggle for a Life with Dignity in the Ecuadorian Amazon
In this paper I argue that lawsuit filed against ChevronTexaco for dumping 18 billion gallons of
toxic wastewater, spilling roughly 17 millions gallons of crude oil, and leaving hazardous waste
in hundreds of open pits dug out of the forest floor have affected more than the ecosystem of the
Ecuadorian Amazon. ChevronTexaco has also completely threatened the Ecuadorian indigenous
people s way of life and was able to delegitimize their claim due to the global capitalist system and
lack of epistemic justice. However I also argue in this paper that the indigenous people s struggle
against ChevronTexaco is an exemplification of resistance to the global capitalist system and stands
in solidarity with the global justice movement. Indigenous peoples is a term especially used in the
international context to recognize the existence of ancestral peoples who existed prior to the
formation of modern nation states and whose way of life was, and is, historically denied, outraged
and discriminated against. In September 2007 the United Nations Declaration on the Human Rights
of Indigenous Peoples was signed. This represents a huge discursive change within the international
context when recognizing the importance of indigenous people s livelihoods. Indigenous ethos
versus western ethos is extremely different in how they identify themselves. Indigenous peoples

Physical differences between whites and blacks are clearly evident here. The impact of prevailing
social stratification is multi dimensional in the novel. It is noted that social stratification has great
effects on racism. We find that Tom is a racist, and his racist attitude is due to his high social
status. He attacks Gatsby and questions about his fake claim of an Oxford graduate to break the
intimacy between her wife Daisy and Gatsby. He knows that revealing the truth is the only way
to create a negative impact on Daisy s mind about Gatsby. Another interpretation can be taken
from Tom s behavior is that Tom shows his aristocratic, rude and arrogant attitude. Indicating
Gatsby as a bootlegger , Mr. Nobody , he shows hardly any sympathy and courtesy to Gatsby. His
attitude toward Gatsby in such way would be impossible if he belongs to an inferior class. Tom

Alexander The Great Of Alexander Essay
Alexander became king of Macedonia after his the passing of his father, King Philip II. Within
this essay, the information of Alexander will come from three different sources, and be
compared to find the similarities in the history of Alexander amongst them. Alexand lived from
356 B.C.E. to 323 B.C.E., dying at the age of thirty two. The three sources used have many
similarities and broaden the history of Alexander, as they include more into the timeline of his
life. Referring to the textbook, the assassination of Philip II led to twenty year old Alexander
becoming the King of Macedonia. He is commonly referred to as Alexander the Great . He, like
his father, had a dream of invading the Persian Empire. The textbook mentions that Alexander
had claimed to be descended from the Greek Hero, Heracles. Alexander also mentioned that he
was pharaoh of Egypt. Going in order of the timeline, Alexander gained control into Asia minor
whenever he defeated Persian king Darius III at the battle of Issus 333 B.C.E. From there he he
extended control over Syria, Palestine, and Egypt. Another battle with the Persian led to victory,
whenever he fought at Gaugamela in 331 B.C.E.. The next move was to take over the Persian
treasuries in Babylon. Darius had fled and Alexander was on a quest to find him, but Darius III
was killed by his own men. With the control of the persians, he pushed his boundaries into

Childhood Memory And Attention As Predictors Of Academic...
Early Childhood Memory and Attention as Predictors of Academic Growth Trajectories
Memory plays a very important role in our academic growth and improving our skills. The purpose
of this paper is to review a study by Stipek Valentino (2015), which examines associations between
attention and memory and academic skill development. Stipek Valentino (2015) used longitudinal
data from the children of the National Longitudinal Survey of Youth to measure how well attention
and short term and working memory in early childhood predict growth trajectories in both math and
reading comprehension through adolescence and education attainment in young adulthood (Stipek
Valentino, 2015). The study indicated that the relationship between working memory and attention
in academic outcomes was observed to be strong and positive in early childhood but not significant
during the later years (Stipek Valentino, 2015). The results of the study suggest that core cognitive
capacities predict learning in the early elementary grades, but the relationship weakens by late
elementary school. These findings suggest that while efforts to develop attention and memory may

Myers-Briggs Test
Learning how to socialize in big groups and thinking before acting can take you further in life

Running against me for the same position in office was a girl by the name of Rachel Monroe.
She had more experience than me because she has been in ASB all four years and won each
position she ran for and she was the vice president the previous year. She was tough competition
but I knew if I stayed focus and stuck to what I originally had planned I would be fine. Rachel
went first, she had a great plan of what she wanted to do for the upcoming school year but the
only thing about her speech is that it was dry, as in it felt like she talked forever, even though
each speech had a time limit of five to seven minutes. It was my turn, I told myself to Stay

presenting my speech with putting my personality all throughout the speech because I know how
to use my personality and comedy I had the audience laughing with tasteful jokes that I had in my
speech but making sure my plans for upcoming school year was believable and clear. I felt that I
got a positive reaction from the one s who were deciding who would get the position. At the end of
the week, there was an ASB meeting announcing the winning candidates. I was nervous but I knew
I did my best. The meeting started at three o clock, not a minute early nor a minute late. You can see
nervous faces all around the room. I made casual conversation with the ones around me to cut the

There s discussion of whether or not there are too many rights for the accused. Should the
Miranda rights be abolished? Do all of the rights for the accused handicap police and
prosecutors? Is a 10 2 jury verdict close enough to unanimous for conviction? I thought yes. To
me, it sounds absurd that the only way for a conviction to come through is by a 12 0 jury verdict.
That means if there s only one dissenter, then the whole trial and case is blown to bits, and justice
is not served. I just don t see how a system where unanimity is the only way for a conviction can
work. I understand that the U.S. justice system is all about protecting the innocent, but when we go
to these lengths, it seems inefficient and unreasonable. Why do we assume innocence in the first

If you don t live under a rock then you ve probably seen one of the six History of Rap videos by
Jimmy Fallon and Justin Timberlake. This dynamic duo combines rap music from different eras
into one long and equally hilarious montage. Recently there s been much hype about rap music
with the release of Straight Outta Compton in August. This got me wondering where rap really
began. The birthplace of rap began in New York City. Rap was meant to be the life of the party,
but nothing serious. The 15 minute long song Rapper s Delight by the Sugarhill Gang, was the
first rap song released in 1979, the song was meant to be catchy and memorable. The song

The king of California rap was Snoop Doggy Dogg. Snoop Dogg from Long Beach, CA quickly
rose to the top of the charts with his singles Who Am I (What s My Name)? and Gin and Juice .
The inspiration of lyrics came from his early defiance of the law, like many artists. Being the
symbol of West Coast gangs, Tupac Shakur was born in Harlem, NY, but grew up in Oakland,
CA. Known for his stage name 2Pac; he released his first album 2Pacalypse Now in 1992. The
album did not achieve any Top Ten hits, but 2Pacalypse Now was praised by critics for its
underground feel, which inspired artists Eminem, Game and Nas. East Coast and West Coast
tensions began to build when Notorious B.I.G came to play. Notorious B.I.G from Brooklyn,
NY was the figure for East Coast rap. He and Tupac were often caught in violent feuds between
each other battling over their coast. On September 7, 1996 2Pac was shot four times in his

Integration Of Engineers And Military History
INTEGRATION OF ENGINEERS IN US MILITARY HISTORY
Name: Josue Forgue (SSG) Institution: SLC Class 004 14 Introduction
The US military is a national force that is tasked with the duty of protecting the federal state from
attacks from external forces. In this respect, the military is obliged to use some special scientific
skills. This sees to it that the military combating is done with convenience and effectiveness. In this
regard, the military was compelled to integrate engineers in its operations throughout its long
history (Arkesian, Connor Sarkesian, 2006).
Body
The military history s integration of engineers dates back to the year 1775 when the continental
government established the first Army Corps. This was essentially an Army... Show more content

The academy was stationed at West Point in New York State. It became the only and then the
major school of engineering in the US. The Corps of Engineers were tasked with duties such as the
improvement of navigation on the Mississippi river (Arkesian, Connor Sarkesian, 2006).
The US military integrated topographical engineers. At around the year 1838, they were used for
the sake of mainstreaming civil works. They took up the task of mapping as well as the design and
the fortification of the coastal routes. The engineers also took up the task of surveying the lakes of
the US in the North and the North West. These engineers saw to it that the topography of the nation
was effectively mainstreamed in accordance to the requirements of the federal government
(American Society of Naval Engineers Society of Naval Architects and Marine Engineers, 2006).
During the civil war, the engineering element that had been integrated into the military in the US
played a very key role. The military carried out many missions during this time and the central nerve
to these missions was the engineers. They undertook tasks like the construction of bridges, forts,
batteries, the entrenchment into fortified enemy territory, and the demolition of the supply chain of
the enemy. It is in this respect that the military was able to keep the enemies at bay. They were
able to go over running torrents of rivers and entered into the

The Diet, The South Beach Diet
Introduction: We live in a society that is crazed in following latest diets whether it be the
Mediterranean diet, the Atkins diet, the South Beach diet etc. Each day there are new discoveries
displayed throughout the media regarding diets and lifestyles, yet for a society so obsessed in the
healthiest trend our statistics tend to show the flying numbers at which the population is diagnosed
with chronic diseases related to nutritional factors. Thus a sound nutritionis more essential than
ever. In the United States at least 4 of the 10 leading causes of are directly linked to what we eat.
Majority if not all of the chronic diseases have a nutritional/lifestyle component that if caught in
time can be reversed. Therefore the focus of the meal plan project was to gain an understanding
of one s own personal nutritional intake by measuring calories consumed throughout the course
of one week. In doing so the individual is made aware of any nutritional deficiencies or food
excesses by the choices made when selecting food. The individual is able to fully grasp their
individual needs by analyzing the data collected over their consumption of essential nutrients such
as carbohydrates, lipids, water and proteins. In the midst of attending class, work and club
schedules, as well as inadequate sleep I hypothesize that my overall nutrition will look be a
downward spiral with insufficient calories and deficiencies in minerals.

In fact, if someone is too skinny, they can be classified as malnourished, which can be just as
dangerous as being obese. However, having a low BMI does not mean that someone is

Detroit Tops Forbes List Of The Most Dangerous Cities
Detroit tops Forbes list of the Most Dangerous Cities this year for the fifth year in a row. What is
encouraging is that the crime rate in the Motor City actually declined last year, despite devestating
financial woes that drove Detroit into the biggest municipal bankruptcy in U.S. history. Crime
affects the people of Detroitand the city s reputation, employment, income and education. It
needs to be contained and reduced to make Detroit prosper and make the lives of the people
living there better. Detroit had 316 murders in 2013, a rate of 45 per 100,000 people. That s the
highest rate among cities with populations over 100,000. In 2013 Detroit also reported 14,504
violent crimes. That s also the highest per capita rate in the nation, according to the annual report.
The total is comprised of rapes, murder, robbery and aggravated assault.
The number of homicides peaked in 1974 at 714 and again in 1991 with 615. By the end of
2010, the homicide count fell to 308 for the year with an estimated population of just over
900,000, the lowest count and rate since 1967. However, taken in context by population, Detroit
remains as a city with one of the highest rates per capita for homicide in the United States. In
April 2008, the city unveiled a $300 million stimulus plan to create jobs and revitalize
neighborhoods, financed by city bonds and paid for by earmarking about 15% of the wagering
tax. Detroit Mayor Dave Bing and Police Chief Chester Logan announced at a press

Lab Report Analysis Of Nahco3 And Alka Seltzer
ANALYSIS OF RESULTS:
Throughout the course of the experiment, the weight of the beaker and liquid, the weight of the
Alka Seltzer tablet, the weight of the beaker with liquid plus the weight of the tablet, and the
weight of the beaker with all of the contents after the bubbling ceased remained roughly constant
and did not vary widely. However, a trend is able to be seen in Figure 1. It is clear that as the mL of
vinegar used in each experiment run increased, the mass percent of NaHCO3 increased as well.
During the construction of Figure 1, experiment runs four and six were deleted to create the
expected graph which consists of a gradual increase and eventually leveling off into a plateau.
DISCUSSION
1.A limiting reacting is the reactant in a chemical reaction that determines the amount of product
that can be formed because it is completely consumed during the reaction. The graph changes in
correlation to the limiting reactant because the graph gradually increases and then eventually ...

Sodium bicarbonate reacts easily to strong acids like hydrochloric acid, so if it were to be used in
this experiment instead of vinegar it would produce a higher percent by mass of NaHCO3. This
would mean that the points on the graph would be positioned higher in comparison to the graph in
Figure 1.
3.Balanced chemical equation:
CO32 (aq) + 2H+ (aq) в†’CO2 (g) + H2O (l)
4.The dissolving of CO2 in the reaction solution and the evaporation of water both effected the
result of the analysis because they have a relation. The dissolving CO2 caused the evaporation of
the water and the weight loss of CO2 was used to calculate the percent by mass of NaHCO3, so it
has an effect on the graph and the way that it looks depending upon the dissolving of CO2.
5.If the Alka Seltzer tablet was dissolved in 60 mL of vinegar, the mass percent of NaHCO3
produced would be around the same as the previous run when there was only 50 mL of vinegar.
This would cause the graph to continue to

Glorification Of Nature In Rime Of The Ancient Mariner
The power and glorification of nature and how it can be a spiritual source of renewal for
individuals is highlighted through the works of artists of the Romantic period. Rime of the Ancient
Mariner by Samuel Coleridge and Blueback by Tim Winton both display the influences that nature
can have on an individual, spiritually and emotionally, and presents a clearer understanding of the
natural world.
The poem by Samuel Coleridge, Rime of the Ancient Mariner depicts a strong belief and interest in
nature and how the natural world can be a place where God can be found. The contrast between the
language of the quotes slimy things and O happy living things demonstrates this change in
perspective as the narrator realises the beauty of nature. During his punishment, the Mariner was
able to see the real beauty of nature and as a result, he had the ability to rejoice and pray about
what he was seeing. By recognising the elegance in the environment that surrounded him, it enabled
the Mariner to be free from his imprisonment. Like the belief in God, the Mariner first feared but
finally loved the natural elements of the world. Throughout the journey, the wonder and beauty of
nature and how it can be a spiritual finding is brought into focus.
Through the use of a metaphor in the quote As if it had been a Christian soul, we hailed it in God s
name. it reveals that the albatross was seen as a connection to God. The albatross was seen as a
good omen and it was the first sign of life

Napoleon Crossing the Alps (Second Versailles Version)
Napoleon Crossing the Alps (Second Versailles version) Napoleon Crossing the Alps is a
painting constructed by Jacques Louis David in the early 1800s. This painting features
Napoleon Bonaparte on a horse during his journey through the Alps that he and his army
completed in May of 1800. While the painting is based off of an extremely important historical
event, Jacques Louis David also used photographic and artistic elements to further depict
Napoleon as he crossed the Alps. The artistic elements that Jacques Louis David uses in this
piece add extreme detail to the simple painting. The complex shadowing shown in the painting
play a critical part in the viewer s perspective of Napoleon. The shadows cast darkness in multiple
places, darkening the background, making the back of Napoleon and his horse even darker. This
detail causes Napoleon and his horse to stand out against the dark, grey backdrop. Additionally,
the horse s light colored mane and Napoleon s red cape create a contrast against the sky, drawing
the viewer s eye to them. The depth of field in the photo is another photographic element used in
this painting. Although there is a wide depth of field since nothing is very blurred, Napoleon and
the horse are sharper than the other elements of the background, for example the cliff, the
mountains, and the troop. The depth of field shows that Napoleon and his horse are the main
subjects of the painting since they are both closer to viewer, and they are clearer than

citric acid and natural flavors (Pendergrast, 2000, p.6). The natural flavors are where they differ.
Coke includes a secret ingredient known as Merchandise 7X, which sounds all mysterious and

HYPOTHESIS When it comes to the Coke vs. Pepsi challenge, I always prefer Coke. I think it
has less of a sugary aftertaste. People say they can tell the difference between Pepsi and Coke, in
my opinion they both taste the same! I believe that based on 30 people (half male/half female),
women will be the ones who will be able to differentiate between Coke and Pepsi. The subjects for

The Mythology Of The Iliad
In The Iliad, the Olympian Gods were depicted as a group of individuals who were still
completely vulnerable to mistake and harm despite their great power. Zeus was one, if not the
biggest and most powerful God among all other Gods. Known as the King of the Gods, Zeus was a
mighty, dominant, and seemingly supreme God, despite his tendency to show surprising silliness
and sometimes, the lack of wisdom through his choices, especially when it came to love affairs,
which eventually led to many problems that could have been prevented. Zeus, in The Iliad, Zeus is
a representation of how ancient Gods were just normal humans equipped with a great degree of
power and capabilities, but they have the tendency to show humanly behavior and mistakes. In the
Homer s Iliad, Gods are very susceptible to human desire. At some point, Gods can act more
human than actual humans would act. They would think, act, speak, and do other things just like a
human being. The only thing that seems to differ Gods and human is their immortality, power and
authority over things. Compared to the gods found in Abrahamic religions, Greek Gods base their
decisions and action without principle but feelings and their personal opinion. Greek God are
known to be capricious, prone to arguments over insignificant things, showing a very close
relationship with human behavior. These characteristics of Greek Gods are probably generated due
to the lack of need to thrive and survive since they are immortal and

The Philosophy Of Moral Relativism
In the beginning of the semester, we were given an ethical inventory and I felt fairly confident
with my results. I ve never taken an ethics class before, so I was very interested in learning about
different philosophies. I came to class with an opened mind and eager with curiosity and was
intrigued by the many different philosophical theories. This newfound information influenced my
current stance when re taking the inventory. There were a few questions which I had a change of
heart in, most of these questions circled around the philosophy of moral relativism and moral
absolutism.
At the start of the course, I believed that right and wrong was not determined by one s culture. I
believed that every being acknowledges that there are certain overarching morals, i.e., thou shalt not
kill. By the end of the course, I changed my opinion on the matter; this change is influenced by the
philosopher, Ruth Benedict. Benedict s philosophy of moral relativism states that morality is
culturally relative morality is dependent upon what is socially approved, and that good varies
among different societies. Each society has their own expectations of behavior, and that in turn
molds the morality of the individual. For example, an individual being brought up in Nazi
Germany will view the treatment of Jews as normal , not batting an eye, in seeing them murdered.
Nonetheless, I still stand behind my initial idea of a universal morality but I understand and accept
the role in which

Hawaii s Antithetic Cultures
There are many different factors that affect what Hawaiians eat, and some of them aren t as
obvious as you might think. Unlike what most people think pineapples are not the most prevalent
food in Hawaii (unless you go to the tourist places then it will be the most abundant thing that you
will find). This is a result of the unique limitations that are present in Hawaii, that are not seen in
most of the world. Since Hawaii has a lot of antithetical cultures that affects their fooddramatically,
you can see this in the traditional food, and the roles that the people paid in society. Unlike our

One of the most famous dishes in Hawaii is poi, it is even served in some not Hawaiian fast food

things on the plate, much like rice or regular mashed potatoes in other cultures. Taro, as stated by

also known as cross level or multilevel integrations including the reintegrative shaming theory,
power control theory, control balance theory and general integrated theory (Barak, 2002). These
theories combine theories like social bonding and social learning theories with structural theories
such as social disorganization and strain theories but does not address macro level factors that
influence crime, and instead focus solely on criminal behavior at the micro level. So far, very little
theories suggested have encompassed all levels of explaining criminology(Barak, 2002). This is a
social structure macro model which states that differential opportunities are not only crime class
specific, but also are accompanied by motivations for both crime and punishment. The introduction
of an integrative theory that analyzes the traits of locations and the people in the locations, rather
than the people themselves. It claims that deviant behavior is more prevalent in areas that are
poorer (Barak, 2002). Life has many daily strains and most do not lead to criminality but the greater
the negative reaction, the higher the probability for criminality. Also, a negative reaction
perpetuates further negative reactions which leads to a higher probability of criminal activities,

Schell S Zero Homeless Family Strategy
Background Homelessness is a societal issues caused from deinstitutionalization, mental illness,
changes in the family structure, economics, violence, and personal crisis. Homelessness is not a
local problem; it is a national (and international) public health crisis. Most statistics show, in fact,
that there are about 8 10,000 individuals living in Seattle (King County) without shelter each and
every night. This may, in fact, be a low estimate, since it is based on one night only, and does not
county every area of the County (Heim, 2009). Within the Greater Seattle Area, many homeless
have chronic health issues. Diabetes is common, often based on alcohol or substance abuse, and
over half have some form of cardiovascular disease, 25% mental health issues. Many have
developmental disabilities, and at least 10% HIV. In 2008, the records reported show that there
were over 100 attacks on the homeless, almost 30 fatal, based on race, religion, or sexual
orientation, causing the Seattle City Council to pass a measure indicating that harassing a homeless
person is a hate crime (Ten Year Plan, 2011).
Part 1 Policy Choices Seattle Mayor Paul Schell had a variety of options that were possible
mitigating factors in addressing homelessness in Seattle. The King County Community
Homelessness Advisory Council had already developed strategies that Scholl could use to combat
the problem. For example, the City could improve maintenance, but not increase the existing shelter

Dry Peas Lab Report
The two hypotheses tested during the experiment were the warmer the temperature, the more
oxygen will be consumed, and the germinated peas will consume more oxygen than the dry peas.
Some conditions that had to remain constant in this experiment were that each vial had to have the

volumes been different, the respiration rate might have been affected. Another constant was the 7

How Does Yvain Change In The Knight Of The Lion
Chretien de Troyes shows in Yvain: The Knight of the Lion that things can change at any moment,
and can cause someone to change their internal and external perspectives. With the character Yvain
he goes through a lot of situations that make him realize things and who he should become. For
example, when Yvain meets the lion and sees things in the lion that he should develop. Another
example is when he breaks his promise with his wife Lady Laudine and goes crazy. Yvain also
realizes a lot about himself when fighting Gawain in the end of the poem.
When Yvain first meets the lion and a venomous snakehe chooses to save the lion because the lion
shows Yvain qualities he should have to become a servant king. A servant king s qualities are loyal,

that he does have compassion when seeing the 300 female girls, working all day making silk

considered for these women because they are slaved to shame. This shows that Yvain is growing
as a person to have more qualities as a servant king. As shown the lion has rubbed off his good

Apple s Iphone 5 Personal Evaluation
Apple s iPhone 5 Personal Evaluation Personal research and evaluations are excellent ways to
discover pertinent information about a product that a consumer wishes to purchase. In addition,
reviews come from multiple sources: experts or consumers, both play an important role to the
consumer and are thought to be valued resources. In fact, reviews and information are easier to
acquire due to the modern technology and increased use of the internet among consumers. Reviews
and research help consumers to decide whether or not they are going to purchase a specific
product, such as Apple s iPhone5s or the 5c, by providing information and specifications. When
comparing consumer reviews along with personal knowledge about the Apple iPhone 5 to expert
reviews based on design, software, and functionally, it is clear that personal evaluations are the
best, as they are first hand knowledge. This consumer has often considered purchasing Apple s
iPhone 5 based on its design, and my desired needs. According to consumers reviews, one

Essay on The Great Gig in the Sky
At a late Thursday night, I have received word that I would perform in a fancy ball room. With
only two weeks of experience I had a gig in front of a hundred people. Like many first gigs, the
stage plays tricks on you and makes you feel inferior. Stage fright had to go away at some point,
so I decided for it to be this Saturday night. Countless of hours put into this one night, I would
practice day in and day out. There was something for me to prove. You don t have to be naturally
talented and experienced to become successful or to perform at a high level. All it takes is a little
self confidence and hard work. Is two weeks enough for a musician to pick up an instrument and
perform? A sunny day in Houston, Texas. Just this morning I have... Show more content on

My heart quickly accelerated and continued to run for its life. I looked at my hands which were
beginning to moisture. The thought of performing with little experience struck me down. I was
a nervous wreck and I knew that within the next five minutes. I will give it my all or die trying. I
patiently waited to be called. A loud thumping noise is heard as I head over to the door and open
the door. It was my father. There is no need to feel nervous. You worked so hard and pushed
yourself to prove a point. Although that may be true, you worked so hard not only for success
but also for the enjoyment of performing. My dad had turned his back on me and faded away. I
stood still thinking about what he has told me. There was a better reason to why I stood up so
late and practiced so much. From the beginning, playing an instrument was a wonderful
experience. With a confident look and a brighter self esteem. I was ready to rock n roll! I
treasured the moment. I put on my shades and walked across the hall with a determined look. I
made my way backstage and was suddenly called to the stage. The spotlight was brighter than the
suns ray. I foolishly put my shades back on and take a look around me. Complete silence was
around me. Such a quiet, yet eerie atmosphere. Eyes across the stage followed me like a homing
missile. I strum a chord and begin playing. A rough start was quickly changed whenever the music
began progressing. After all, all that practice made me

The Whale Rider By Niki Caro
The Whale Rider by Niki Caro is a film about a young girl, Paikea s journey to acceptance from her
grandfather. This film explores many themes such as feminism, family and conflict. One of the
main conflicts explored throughout this film is the conflict between Nanny Flowers and Koro,
Paikea s grandparents. Conflict is an important issue in this film because it causes rupture among an
already fractured family.
The film Whale Rider is based around a family living on the East Coast of New Zealand, in
Whangara. The film revolves around two characters, Koro and his granddaughter Paikea. Koro is
the chief in his village and he is growing old meaning soon he will have to pass down his title.

Nanny Flowers didn t like this gesture and after Koro had said goodbye made him hold her.
Here, hold your granddaughter, Nanny told him. This was an important quote for, during this
time because of Koro s rejection too Paikea the conflict between these two characters ignited.
Nanny Flowers thought this was wrong and stood by Paikea for she was only an innocent child
and Koro was being a blinded man. He was looking for something that didn t exist, a prophet, a
new leader who was going to lead their family to great heights. During this scene, Niki Caro used
some clever camera movement and shot compositions to enhance the message she was trying to
get across. When we see Koro saying goodbye to Pai s brother the shot we see is from behind a
glass wall, behind Nanny Flowers shoulders. This was effective because the shot was made out to
be from Nanny Flowers perspective. Caro also used the wall as a barrier showing that there is
separation between the characters. This was clever of Caro because this event was the beginning of
the conflict between Nanny Flowers and Koro.
Throughout the film the conflict between these characters builds until the very end of the film
when, the conflict reaches its peak. At the end of the film one of the last events is helping a whole
pod of beached whales, back into the sea. After a long night s struggle Paikea gets onto the biggest

The Theme Of Empathy In The Ugly Tourist By David Wallace
Empathy is a human device that allows someone to put oneself in another person s situation. This
allows them to have a greater understanding or personal connection of someone s problem. After
reading The Ugly Tourist by Jamaica Kincaid and Consider the Lobster by David Wallace, the
theme of perspective, specifically empathy, is a vital aspect in both essays. Empathy plays a great
role in understanding both writer s perspective, which means to understand a certain point of view
other than oneself. The sense of empathy goes far beyond sympathy, which is just feelingsorry for
someone or something. However, being that empathy stretches to feeling sorry with someone or
something one is capable of sensing emotions of another. In The Ugly Tourist , Kincaid wants her
audience to know tourists that go to visit Natives frustrate her. She displays her frustration from the
perspective of the natives. In addition, in Consider the Lobster which is directed to humans that eat
and cook lobster, to understand the pain that these lobsters go through and believes we humans are
cruel. Although The Ugly Tourists and Consider the Lobster essays are similar in that both
incorporate the themes, empathy and perspective in their writing, they do so in different ways.
Whereas, The Ugly Tourists uses an aggressive tone to point out the native s struggles while in
Consider the Lobster he uses cultural practices of humans to makes his point of how empathy or

How Narrative Medicine Can Improve The Physician Patient...
Synthesis #1: Describe how Narrative Medicine can improve the Physician Patient relationship?
This past s week s articles and video s has shown me the differences between two models of care
one being the biomedical model versus the biopsychosocial model (Soupis, 2016). Both of these
models have value however, distinctively different in their theoretical frameworks of how they
deliver patient care within the underlying roles that exist in the patient physician relationship. As I
watched all the video presentations; after having read all the articles already being moved by the
writings of Dr. Rita Charon, her video further demonstrated what type of impact a physician can
have on their patients when delivering this type of care as she aptly named narrative medicine
(Charon,2009, p.119). This week s lesson on narrative medicine struck a nerve into the depth of my
inner being, totally awed me, this developing field rather evolving branch of medicine.
Narrative Medicine is reestablishing the role and methods for physicians by teaching them
empathic witnessing. (DasGupta, Charon, 2004 p. 354). The premise philosophy believes in
treating the whole person, all dimensional sides of the patient, not just the parts of the patient. This
interdisciplinary field was created as an answer for patients, due to the failure of their physician s
inability to hear, see, or understand, their patient s pain that would have ultimately lead them to
their diagnosis (Charon, 2004, p.119). It seems

  • 2. Emerging Adulthood and Sexuality in Latin American... The main idea of this paper is to discuss the sexual and reproductive health of Latin American immigrants in Madrid, briefly approaching three different questions: do they believe that there are differences about sexual and reproductive health issues between what they lived in their countries and Spain?; are they having different behaviors in Spainthan in their origin countries and, if so, which ones?; and finally, what do they perceived about sexual healthservices and access in Spain? Regular Latin American immigrant s sexuality in Europe has been rarely addressed by researchers. Even the known importance of irregular migration sexuality studies, because of the risks and vulnerability to which migrants are exposed, we should ask ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Ecological Theory is not being probed in this research; it is limited to be an organizing tool. The interview guide that we use tried to include all the systems in the theory (macro, micro, meso, exo, and crhono5), and their probable relations through different issues, which will correspond to one or more systems. However, even the theory would not define the study, it contributes to the design. Grounded theory interprets data from the reality of the individual, and it can be understand under the social construction of reality, according to Berger and Luckman6. Also, it is directly related with the concept of sexuality as a social construction. Weeks3 emphasis, when talking about the social construction of sexuality, that sexuality is not a given fact, it is a product of negotiation, struggle, and human actions (pp 30). Emerging adulthood was proposed in 2000 by Jeffrey Arnett,2 to described the group of people aged 18 29 years old. The theory basically includes 5 principles that can change between countries due to cultural backgrounds: instability (work, love, education); exploration of identity; Self focus on personal goals; feeling in between (adult adolescent); high hopes for the future, positives ideas. • 4. Lab Report On Ultrasound Treatment Ultrasound treatment was done according to method by [21] with some modifications. Ultrasonic probe (JY92 IIN, Ningbo Scientz Biotechnology Co. Ltd, Ningbo, China) was used, with maximum power 1000Watt, frequency 25 kHz and probe diameter of 13mm. Pectin solutions were treated at 60% duty cycles, sonication times was fixed at 20 minutes, sonication power (200 and 400 watts). Effect of acidity on sonication was determined at pH2, 4 and 6, by adjusting solution pH using acetic acid. Native pectin 0.25g was put in 250ml beaker suspended in 100ml deionized water to achieve low viscosity, it was stirred on a magnetic stirrer for 30 minutes, and sonic treatment was done by immersing sonic probe up to 1cm deep in the solution. After treatment, the suspension was precipitated with equal volume of 95%v/v ethanolto precipitate pectin. The content was centrifuged at 7500xg and filtrate removed. the precipitate was left in fume cupboard to remove ethanol traces then re dissolved in deionized water and frozen at 45бґјC and eventually freeze dried for further analysis. Ultrasound intensity was predicted according to the following equation I=P/(ПЂr^2 ) Where I= intensity, r =radius of the sonic probe and P= ultrasonic power. 4.2.5. Countless times Buddhism has given many societies the answers that they were looking for in political and social questions. Buddhism still today offers support form the invasion of western ideas. Even though Buddhism has always been big in Vietnam you will only now mainly see it when the country is going through difficult times. According to Buddhist thought, human salvation lies in discovering the four truths that man is born to suffer in successive lives, that the cause of the suffering is man s craving for earthly pleasures and possessions, that the suffering ceases upon his deliverance from his craving, and that he achieves this deliverance by following the noble eightfold path (Buddhism 1987). Buddhism is something that is known by the Vietnamese as a use of escape from reality, and this mainly because it is known to relate to all. Buddhism was all about All Men are Equal as opposed to the strict hierarchical structure of Confucianism (Vietnamese Buddhism). It s distinctive feature is that it rejects the search for the truth in the scared text: Man immediately recognizes in his own heart the true heart of Buddha , the absolute substance of all beings. Racial discrimination is occurring in many ways and prejudice is a huge contributing factor which many people don t realize. In her novel, To Kill a Mockingbird, Harper Lee shows a family in the South during the 1930 s, experience prejudice at the extreme. Young Scout, who is the narrator, lives in Maycomb, Alabamawhere there is a lot of racism. Because of this, many problems erupt when people try to change the towns ways. When they are at her house, she rudely scoffs, Your father s no better than the niggers and trash that he works for! (102) The author uses the word trash to show Scout that some people who are very selfish use derogatory words like trash to display their feelings. Additionally, trash is a very insulting word to call someone, especially because Scout knows what it means. Mrs. Dubose yelling at the children causes Scout to get a better picture of what the reality of their world is. All of these examples from the novel, illustrate how Scout is learning about racism in many forms by witnessing the actions and language of others. Later in the story, Scout becomes more aware of racism around her and starts to question the town s discriminatory ways. When Scout comes home from Mrs. Dubose s house, she is really upset. She is mad because Mrs. Dubose had said some really harsh things to her about Atticus. After this, Scout starts questioning to Atticus what a nigger lover is. • 8. The Religious Believer s Explanation for the Existence of... The problem of evil and suffering presents a real problem to the religious believer because it compels them to accept conflicting claims that are logically impossible to reconcile. Religious followers often question the nature of God and whether or not he is the type of God we are led to believe. St Augustine said that if Godcannot stop evil and suffering he is not all powerful if he will not stop evil and suffering then he is not all good. However Augustine did not actually believe this to be true he set it out as something which he was going to solve. Surely God can do all that is logically possible if he created the world out of nothing. If God is supposedly all knowing then he should know how to stop evil and suffering. If God is all... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... J.L. Mackie a modern philosopher had a similar approach to Hume and he believed that God could not be both omnibenevolent and omnipotent if evil exists. He labelled this the inconsistent triad and believed that you could not have all three conflicting claims at once. Flew another modern philosopher looked at the possibility that God may not love us. He believed the biggest challenge to the believer is allowing the challenge of God s existence and demanding an answer. He said it is not enough to just say that God s love is different to ours because it is the simplest explanation. If we do this we are just qualifying God s love as opposed to demanding a solution and finding good reason why he should not intervene. A possible solution to the problem of evil is the Augustinian theodicy which is based on Genesis. St Augustine argued that in genesis 1 God is seen as creating a world that is perfectly good and free from defect. He said that this was clearly outlined in G1:31 where it says God saw what he had made and it was very good. He believed that evil itself is not a thing or substance therefore God did not create it. Augustine argue that evil was the going wrong of something good and as a result Augustine termed evil as a privation of a good that did not come from God but entities with free will such as angels and humans who were willing to give ... • 9. Phonology 1 Introduction:
Phonology is the study of how sounds function within a given language. The study of English phonology for our purposes can be divided into two broad approaches: segmental and suprasegmental.
Segmental phonology is a bottom up view of phonology which deals with the individual sounds which make a difference to meaning. These are called phonemes and their effect can be seen clearly in the following example: * Red (colour). * Read (past tense of the verb to read). * Read (present tense of the verb to read).
The pronunciation of 1 and 2 is the same; they are homophones. The spelling of 2 and 3 is the same; they are homographs. All three examples are made of 3 distinct phonemes /r/... In British English, the schwa can be found at the end of all words ending er (e.g., father, mother); note that we do not pronounce 4 To illustrate the schwa, imagine your mouth as a car gear box. Stress timing and syllable timing English is said to be a stress timed language. This means that the timing between stressed words is regular. Crucially, however, the number of syllable between stresses is not regular (like in Italian which is syllable timed). Incompetence Is Considered An Effective Employee If an employee has been guilty of serious misconduct, habitual neglect of duty, incompetence or conduct incompatible with his duties, or prejudicial to the employer s business, or if he has been guilty of willful disobedience to the employer s orders in a matter of substance, the law recognizes the employer s right summarily to dismiss the delinquent employee. This definition of just cause, which was set in 1967 by the Ontario Court of Appeal, continues to be referred to today. Unionized or tenured employees are a special case when it comes to being able to dismiss an incompetent employee. For example, a professor, who has tenure, fits the special case of an employee who has worked for numerous years in the position and is then seemingly guaranteed the job for life. College administrators frequently claim that faculty tenure prevents them from adapting the curriculum more effectively to accommodate changes in the economy and to the patterns of student demand. Which is why some commentators, of course, welcome the collapse of the tenure system, saying tenure provides job security for indolent and incompetent professors. 4 Situations as above, makes people question why professors with tenure are able to get away with being incompetent, but other employees need to be careful and avoid it. The current precedent case in Canada acting as the authority in situations of dismissal on grounds of incompetence can be found in the Manitoba Court of Queen s Bench ruling of Boulet v. • 12. The Legalization Of Birth Control Griswold vs. Connecticut The legalization of Birth Control Ashley Barreras August 10, 2015 Political Science Imagine living in a world where birth control did not exist or was considered illegal to all women. This is the reality that women from our history dealt with for many years. Until the year 1965 birth control was banned for women living in the state of Connecticut. Whether married or unmarried the simple right of contraception, or asking a pharmacist about preventing pregnancy was illegal. This law prohibiting the practice of contraception was changed with the help of birth control activist such as Estelle Griswold. Griswold appealed the law in the popularly known case of Griswold vs. Connecticut. Her claim for legalized birth control helped changed the future for women living in the state of Connecticut. The revised law gave married women the freedom and privacy to take charge of their bodies and prevent unwanted pregnancies with the practice of birth control. Birth control was illegal in the state of Connecticut until the 1960s. The reasoning behind prohibiting any form of contraception was influenced by Protestant moral reformers as well as middle class women from the1870s. The leader of the purity movement was Anthony Comstock who was a Postal Inspector and responsible for most of the anti contraception laws. Together he worked with other activist and created a social purity movement that assisted to outlaw the ideas of contraception. These activist ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 16. Indigenous Struggle For A Life With Dignity Jenny Melin INT 203 Dr. Stephen Haymes Indigenous Struggle for a Life with Dignity in the Ecuadorian Amazon In this paper I argue that lawsuit filed against ChevronTexaco for dumping 18 billion gallons of toxic wastewater, spilling roughly 17 millions gallons of crude oil, and leaving hazardous waste in hundreds of open pits dug out of the forest floor have affected more than the ecosystem of the Ecuadorian Amazon. ChevronTexaco has also completely threatened the Ecuadorian indigenous people s way of life and was able to delegitimize their claim due to the global capitalist system and lack of epistemic justice. However I also argue in this paper that the indigenous people s struggle against ChevronTexaco is an exemplification of resistance to the global capitalist system and stands in solidarity with the global justice movement. Indigenous peoples is a term especially used in the international context to recognize the existence of ancestral peoples who existed prior to the formation of modern nation states and whose way of life was, and is, historically denied, outraged and discriminated against. In September 2007 the United Nations Declaration on the Human Rights of Indigenous Peoples was signed. This represents a huge discursive change within the international context when recognizing the importance of indigenous people s livelihoods. Alexand lived from 356 B.C.E. to 323 B.C.E., dying at the age of thirty two. The three sources used have many similarities and broaden the history of Alexander, as they include more into the timeline of his life. Referring to the textbook, the assassination of Philip II led to twenty year old Alexander becoming the King of Macedonia. He is commonly referred to as Alexander the Great . He, like his father, had a dream of invading the Persian Empire. The textbook mentions that Alexander had claimed to be descended from the Greek Hero, Heracles. Alexander also mentioned that he was pharaoh of Egypt. Going in order of the timeline, Alexander gained control into Asia minor whenever he defeated Persian king Darius III at the battle of Issus 333 B.C.E. From there he he extended control over Syria, Palestine, and Egypt. Another battle with the Persian led to victory, whenever he fought at Gaugamela in 331 B.C.E.. • 20. Childhood Memory And Attention As Predictors Of Academic... Early Childhood Memory and Attention as Predictors of Academic Growth Trajectories Memory plays a very important role in our academic growth and improving our skills. The purpose of this paper is to review a study by Stipek Valentino (2015), which examines associations between attention and memory and academic skill development. Stipek Valentino (2015) used longitudinal data from the children of the National Longitudinal Survey of Youth to measure how well attention and short term and working memory in early childhood predict growth trajectories in both math and reading comprehension through adolescence and education attainment in young adulthood (Stipek Valentino, 2015). The study indicated that the relationship between working memory and attention in academic outcomes was observed to be strong and positive in early childhood but not significant during the later years (Stipek Valentino, 2015). The results of the study suggest that core cognitive capacities predict learning in the early elementary grades, but the relationship weakens by late elementary school. These findings suggest that while efforts to develop attention and memory may improve academic achievement in the early grades, during the later grades interventions that focus directly on learning the subject matter are more likely to improve academic achievement (Stipek Valentino, 2015). Implications of the Article The implications of this study are very important as achievement in school requires a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 31. Glorification Of Nature In Rime Of The Ancient Mariner The power and glorification of nature and how it can be a spiritual source of renewal for individuals is highlighted through the works of artists of the Romantic period. Rime of the Ancient Mariner by Samuel Coleridge and Blueback by Tim Winton both display the influences that nature can have on an individual, spiritually and emotionally, and presents a clearer understanding of the natural world. The poem by Samuel Coleridge, Rime of the Ancient Mariner depicts a strong belief and interest in nature and how the natural world can be a place where God can be found. The contrast between the language of the quotes slimy things and O happy living things demonstrates this change in perspective as the narrator realises the beauty of nature. During his punishment, the Mariner was able to see the real beauty of nature and as a result, he had the ability to rejoice and pray about what he was seeing. • 34. Napoleon Crossing the Alps (Second Versailles Version) Napoleon Crossing the Alps (Second Versailles version) Napoleon Crossing the Alps is a painting constructed by Jacques Louis David in the early 1800s. This painting features Napoleon Bonaparte on a horse during his journey through the Alps that he and his army completed in May of 1800. While the painting is based off of an extremely important historical event, Jacques Louis David also used photographic and artistic elements to further depict Napoleon as he crossed the Alps. The artistic elements that Jacques Louis David uses in this piece add extreme detail to the simple painting. The complex shadowing shown in the painting play a critical part in the viewer s perspective of Napoleon. The shadows cast darkness in multiple places, darkening the background, making the back of Napoleon and his horse even darker. This detail causes Napoleon and his horse to stand out against the dark, grey backdrop. Additionally, the horse s light colored mane and Napoleon s red cape create a contrast against the sky, drawing the viewer s eye to them. The depth of field in the photo is another photographic element used in this painting. Although there is a wide depth of field since nothing is very blurred, Napoleon and the horse are sharper than the other elements of the background, for example the cliff, the mountains, and the troop. The depth of field shows that Napoleon and his horse are the main subjects of the painting since they are both closer to viewer, and they are clearer than ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Zeus was one, if not the biggest and most powerful God among all other Gods. Known as the King of the Gods, Zeus was a mighty, dominant, and seemingly supreme God, despite his tendency to show surprising silliness and sometimes, the lack of wisdom through his choices, especially when it came to love affairs, which eventually led to many problems that could have been prevented. Zeus, in The Iliad, Zeus is a representation of how ancient Gods were just normal humans equipped with a great degree of power and capabilities, but they have the tendency to show humanly behavior and mistakes. In the Homer s Iliad, Gods are very susceptible to human desire. At some point, Gods can act more human than actual humans would act. They would think, act, speak, and do other things just like a human being. The only thing that seems to differ Gods and human is their immortality, power and authority over things. Compared to the gods found in Abrahamic religions, Greek Gods base their decisions and action without principle but feelings and their personal opinion. Greek God are known to be capricious, prone to arguments over insignificant things, showing a very close relationship with human behavior. I ve never taken an ethics class before, so I was very interested in learning about different philosophies. I came to class with an opened mind and eager with curiosity and was intrigued by the many different philosophical theories. This newfound information influenced my current stance when re taking the inventory. There were a few questions which I had a change of heart in, most of these questions circled around the philosophy of moral relativism and moral absolutism. At the start of the course, I believed that right and wrong was not determined by one s culture. I believed that every being acknowledges that there are certain overarching morals, i.e., thou shalt not kill. By the end of the course, I changed my opinion on the matter; this change is influenced by the philosopher, Ruth Benedict. Benedict s philosophy of moral relativism states that morality is culturally relative morality is dependent upon what is socially approved, and that good varies among different societies. Each society has their own expectations of behavior, and that in turn molds the morality of the individual. For example, an individual being brought up in Nazi Germany will view the treatment of Jews as normal , not batting an eye, in seeing them murdered. Most statistics show, in fact, that there are about 8 10,000 individuals living in Seattle (King County) without shelter each and every night. This may, in fact, be a low estimate, since it is based on one night only, and does not county every area of the County (Heim, 2009).
