The Lord of the Rings directed by Peter Jackson Essay
The Art and the Business of My Inspirational Film A cultural product that inspires me is the film
trilogy The Lord of the Rings, which was directed by Peter Jackson. This movie gave me
inspiration because of how beautiful and well put together the film was. It made me want to be
involved with the process of how great films are made. According to Wikipedia, Jackson knew
he wanted to bring the movie to the big screen, and was curious to why nobody decided to do so.
He wanted to take advantage of the new technology, and create a fantasy that was serious and felt
real (Wikipedia, 2014). Peter Jackson demonstrates the art and business of the film in many ways,
which is culturally inspiring. The trilogy is about a hobbit named Frodo Baggins... Show more

Peter Jackson watched the animation of The Lord of the Rings, which lead him to read Tolkien s
novels. He was interested in making the Hobbit series first, but put the project on hold because
he was offered to remake the film King Kong. So then he wanted to film King Kong before the
trilogy, but had to put it on hold because of location problems, so he began with The Lord of the
Rings project. Jackson wanted to make sure that everything would run smoothly for the film, so
he got started with rereading the books and developing a script (Wikipedia, 2014). According to
the web, Peter Jackson created the remake of Tolkien s novel because he was a fan of the
original work and wanted to bring it to life. He was inspired by his 12 hour train ride when he
was younger, the whole train ride he read the novels as he stared at the New Zealand landscape
(TheLordoftheRings.net). Jackson shot the whole movie at multiple locations within New Zealand
s conservation and national parks area (Wikipedia, 2014). I am pretty sure that most of the movie
was shoot in green screen because they were in the middle of nowhere. The movie has a lot alluring
special effects that makes me feel like they re actually watching something that is real. Critic Rob
Blackwelder, in his review, Hobbit Forming, tells about how director Peter Jackson, has brought the

Free Speech Persuasive Speech
What is free speech? Does the term free speech cover offensive words? Painful ones? Words that
disrespect others? What about objectionable, or even wrong beliefs? When is speech illegal?
What is exactly meant by free speech? According to Rampell, the term free speech includes hate
speech , and is therefore protected by the first amendment (np). This means that even messages we
don t like, agree with, feel uncomfortable about, or even are disgusted by, are legal. Unfortunately,
many college students consider harmful words an assault, and some students believe that such
verbal attacks can and should be met with violence (French np). Students and speakers today are
discriminated against in classrooms and other scenes where free speech and debateshould be
especially cherished. In 2017 alone, there have been multiple riots born of originally peaceful
protests. Students in Middlebury College in Vermont revolted at a peaceful debate with far right
Charles Murray. While Murray tried to reach his building, a mob formed, forcing him and his
debate partner, Allison Stanger, to move to another building (Beinhart np). When Murray and
Stanger tried to leave, they and the car they were in were attacked by students. The leftist Stanger
was sent to the emergency room because she tried to protect the guest (Fatzick np). In Berkeley,
California, students were up in arms, wanting to prevent Milo Yiannopoulos from speaking. Their
haste to silence a man they disagreed with led to a huge disaster. In the streets, fellow classmates
were attacked. One student who supported President Trump was brutally beaten, and an innocent
bystander who claimed to be Muslim was assaulted for looking like a Nazi (Ramaiyer np). Others
were beset upon as well, with pepper spray, matches, and baseball bats. In total, only one person was
arrested (French np). Unless this one person attacked this many people and businesses, it s safe to
assume that dozens of perpetrators have gone unpunished for the crime of hurting a human being!
This free speech is not protected under the First Amendment. People are hurting other people.
Another time Mr. Yiannopoulos attempted to give a speech, protesters rudely barged into the
lecture hall, interrupting the

The Battle Of Yorktown By William Faulkner
Battle of Yorktown
A Striking Start
You are galloping full speed at full speed like it is the last day of your life, you ride into the city
of Yorktown fiercely, then your rider wants you to go faster, you are galloping faster than you
have ever run, as fast as a speeding bullet. The wind is slapping your face as hard as a hammer,
you finally run into the sea of smoke, muskets, and bayonets. The person riding you violently
thrusts his mighty sword, and swiftly fires his French pistol. Cannonballs fly over you like soaring
hawks destroying the fortifications that may have taken years to build, you are a proud horse in
The American Revolutionary War, and you will never stop galloping for the Patriots even if it kills
you.

The colonist brought a force of about 8800 to attack Yorktown . The Continental Army 7800
French troops commanded by George Washington and, admiral Francois, Count de Grasse a
French naval leader fiercely decided to attack the headquarter with only about 6000 British
defending the headquarters, but on the other side of the James River in Gloucester there were only
1,000 British troops to protect the fort against 3,000 French, and troops from the continental army.
The Patriots set up a hospital 2 miles southeast from British lines, this is convenient because they
didn t have to go a long way for a medic.
The British soldiers were cornered because the Continental Army attacked from all sides. The
Continental Army did what was the worst that could happen to the British during the Revolutionary
War.On September 20th the Continental Army reached Yorktown and started to attack. The
Continental Army set up a camp far outside the lines of the British Headquarters so the continental
army could get new supplies so just in case of an attack from the land they would be able to
access goods from water. The French army also had flooded the James river with their naval boats
surrounding the British army from all sides. These boats played a key role in the battle of Yorktown
not only because they were bombarding the Yorktown

Drug Abuse And Addiction
Drug Abuse and Addiction
Individuals are well on the way to begin drug abuse including alcohol, tobacco, marijuana and
many more drugs which are illegal. It has been seen that most affected category falls under the
effect of drug abuse is adolescence and young adulthood. The percentage of senior students during
their high school, who will have tried alcohol is 70 percent in the ratio and 40 percent of them start
smoking and nearly 20 percent of them start taking prescription drugs. (National Institute on Drug
Abuse, The principles of Adolescent Substance Abuse Use Disorder Treatment: A research Based

more.
There is not only one theory that why people become addictive to drugs, however there is always
a combinations of many factors. Here are the major two theories as to why this social problem of
drug abuse exists in the society. Firstly, The genetic theory (Schukit. P.no 452. Theories On Drug
Abuse ) is related to biological aspects. Genetic factor plays a pivotal role in the physiological
drive of an individual. Genetic theory means transmission of genes to children by their parents. An
individual may become addictive to the substance if any of his ancestor was also addicted to that
same substance. Secondly, Self esteem theory (Howar B. Kaplan,Phd. Pno157. Theories On Drug
Abuse ), this theory is based upon self esteem motives. The key variables of self esteem theory are
drug availability, feelings of inferiority or superiority, social pressure/acceptability, coping
mechanism, immediate gratification and life style. People falls under the theory of self esteem
become dependents of illicit substances like hallucinogens, barbiturates, amphetamines, marijuana
and alcohol. These substances are observed as an alternative action to self rejecting attitudes.
At three levels the social issue of drug and addiction can be seen in society. These three levels are
Micro, Macro and Meso. The social issue under Micro level theory of drug abuse and addiction

Observation Studies in Evaluation and Institutional Research
Observation Methodology Paper
PSYC 724C
James Campbell
When is it appropriate to use the observation method to conduct research on subjects? Clearly, a
number of questions that researchers want or need to address relating to human behaviors or
actions cannot be addressed or answered by traditional research methods. One of the best ways to
answer a number of these questions is the use of observation. Observational research is best used
when the following factors are recognized and accommodation made to address them: Such factors

served all these centuries as looking glasses possessing the magic and delicious power of
reflecting the figure of man at twice it s natural Size The topic that I ve chosen for my essay is
The Status of A Woman in South Indian or specifically Malayalam Cinema. The first question
the arises in my mind while watching any Malayalam movie is why does the nationally and
internationally acclaimed Malayalam or for that matter any South Indian Cinema fail to
represent women s experiences, Why are The Female leads just subjected to basic chores, or as
an object of desire? Me being a Woman find it very disturbing to see woman being labelled in the
same umbrella. Indian cinema has always been under the line of fire for its potrayal of women
as objects of desire. Be it in the case of Mandakini, Parveen Babi or the current crop of actresses.
From Sheila Ki Jawaani to Munni ki Badnaami , its usually women who are utilized as objects of
desire and sexual objects. The situation is no different in Indian culture where In reality the birth
of a girl child is frowned and looked down upon with disrespect in some parts of India and
shockingly even among elite and educated Indians, whereas the Birth of a boy is celebrated.
Indian Cinema as a whole is the biggest culprit here as the reach and impact by Commercial films
is the most and it is very disheartening that such an industry still uses or turns

The Military Of American Army Downsizing
The quick evolving military environment, needs the US Army redouble its efforts to reduce the
uncertainty associated with the downsizing. There are some predominant principles that can
guide the Army s efforts in minimizing the impact of uncertainty during the force reduction.
Even with major political and legislative challenges, keeping balance among the different
proportions of readiness is a goal of US defense policy. During the budgetary preparation,
downsizing of the armed forces often becomes one of the first victims of fiscal reduction. This
was true of the years between World War I and World War II, when the Great Depression made
military preparedness a very low national priority. The Army s downsizing effect put its readiness...

By that time, simple questions remained without a steady answer regarding the morale, training,
retention programs, and most important, readiness. Wong (2013) quotes the Army reduction as
follows,
One would be hard pressed to find anyone who would claim that the post Vietnam downsizing,
typified by insensitive dismissals of combat veterans via pink slips accompanied by almost
nonexistent transition assistance, is an example of a well executed reduction in force.
The Army s success in battles becomes a product of its readiness, training, and equipment and of
course its size. In the American history, the success of the first battles was a product of
combination of all the mentioned factors and especially reduction of the military numbers. Due to
the public s will and pressure for downsizing the force after conflicts and increasing the number
right before the following conflicts, the will to repair the damage already done was almost
obsolete. In his article, Dunn (2013) mentions, public reaction to the US first battles served as a
catalyst for repairing the state of the Army . The downsizing routine followed after Cold War
period, in order to match the proper rate of forces on the evolving and complicated environment.
After Cold War Downsizing
After the fall of the Berlin Wall and the end of the Cold War, the Army purposely strived to avoid
the difficulties and mistakes of the post Vietnam force

The Sun Rising
The Sun Rising is a poem written by John Donne in the late 1590s consisting of 30 lines divided
into three stanzas of 10 lines each following the rhyme scheme ABBACDCDEE. John Donne was
a leading English poet of the Metaphysical school often considered as the greatest love poet in the
English language. If we take into account the rhymes of each stanza, we may note that within a
stanza, three units are being proposed : first of all the first unit of the stanza is composed of
introverted rhymes following the rhymescheme ABBA, then the second unit of the stanza is
composed of alternate rhymes following the rhyme scheme CDCD, finally the last unit is a couplet
with the rhyme scheme EE. The poem is generally iambic but the pattern is occasionally broken by
the poet to mark style effects as well as the meters that are irregular, moreover Donne uses many
archaisms throughout his poem. In this aubade, the poet complains about the sun that interrupts in
the morning the two... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The poem humanizes the sun by personifying it from the first line : busy old fool , as an old man
with duties to perform : shine on the world and awaken the earthlings in the morning. Through
the adjectives unruly (l.1), saucy pedantic wretch (l. 5), the poet brings a human touch to the sun
giving it a personality and a conscience and even grants it eyes in line 16 and 19 : look , saw st
(here with a syncope) ; a voice in line 19 : ask ; as well as ears in line 20 : hear . The adjectives
used may be surprising to the reader, Donne lectures the sun using an apostrophe from the first line
and marks the tone with a trochee that emphasizes on the rebellious character of the poet awakened
by the sunbeams. The sun represents the passage of time which threatens the relationship of the
lovers but the poet emphasizes in line 9 and 10 that despite the passage of time, love resists the

Fahrenheit 451 Society Analysis
When Ron Jones had manipulated his class into a mild form of neo nazism, most, if not all,
took notice, with the small exception of his class. His class had no idea what they became until
the end of the experiment. This raises the question: How can you tell whether or not something
is wrong with society? Now, obviously the whole something is wrong with society boils down to
nothing more than an opinion, so as a way to measure it, I will focus on societies that are largely
believed and generally accepted to be corrupt, so as much as I d love to talk about how screwed up
our current society is, because I m in the unfortunate minority, I d have to stick with the Nazi
regime and fictional governments. I will be presenting three different corrupt policies for each
argument: Fahrenheit 451society, another fictional society, and real society The first sign that a
government or society is corrupt is cruel or unusual punishment. Governments that punish those
that have committed crimes that present no right to be punished. In Fahrenheit 451 , the greatest
look we ever get at their punishment (besides the burning houses) is what happened to the poor
chap minding his own business. The guy wasn t even doing anything even remotely criminal, but
he still was subjected to lethal punishment. Another example is the IDW universe of Transformers.

What is the Hips joint and how does it move safely?
The hip joint is a ball and socket joint, technically referred to as synovial joint, because the Head of

In addition, the hip is a very important joint/bone dancers use, because the hip is what controls

The Famous Concept Of Scientific Management
The famous concept of Scientific Management was originated by Frederick W. Taylor few
centuries ago. Scientific management is a way of organizing and administrating the industry with
its own system involving rules, methods and policies (Thompson, 1916). His goal was to
standardize and connect all the current improvements in industrial organization and to push it
further according to his concept (Thompson, 1914). His work later gave inspiration to many
researches from other fields (Wren, 2011). On the other hand, Elton Mayo research later on the
Hawthorne Experiment has deviated the industrial psychology from what relates the worker s
relationship to his job instead to workers prioritizing work relations and attitude (Cubbon, 1969).
Elton Mayo then develops the concept of Human Relations by studying the workers in groups
instead of how Taylor did by studying workers as individual. Through this, he noticed workers
prefer working in groups and it even increases the productivity of the work place. (Ionescu Negrusa,
2013).
According to Scientific management, workers were assumed to be passive and reluctant to put in
all their effort without the interference of the management. They also try to minimise and even
avert responsibility (Hekman, 2002). Besides, it is inferred that workers have cooperation
dilemma where some workers try to disadvantage their own colleagues by doing less work but still
earning the same profit, known also as the soldiering behaviour (Wagner Tsukamoto,

The Physics of Piano
One of the most common musical instruments in many homes is the piano; and most people have
the opportunity for even a few lessons in their youth. However, despite the simplicity of its lines
and keys (88 keys), 2 3 pedals on the modern piano, and either upright (vertical) or grand style
(horizontal), the physics of the pianoare both interesting and complex. The modern piano is a
descendent of the harpsichord, which used a plucking technique much like that of plucking the
strings of a harp or lute. Bartolomeo Crisotofori, an Italian craftsman, substituted felt hammers in
place of the plucking mechanism, making the instrument capable of graduations of tone and
timber. He called his new instrument the Gravicembalo col piano e forte (a harpsichord with
louds and softs). This was later shortened to the piano and with critiques from Baroque
composers like Bach, a number of improvements were made to sound quality and tonality
eventually emerging as the preferred keyboard instrument for Mozart, Haydn, and Beethoven.
Over the course of centuries to different piano types have emerged. The grand piano, from 5 6 to
8 or 9 in length horizontal to the upright piano, more suitable for the home, which also exists in
differing sizes, 3 5; in height (Parakilas). The mechanism of a piano consists of pressing on a key
(either black or white) on the keyboard causing a felt covered hammer to strike steel strings that are
various lengths and tensions. The hammers rebound; allowing the

The Effects Of Global Warming On The Earth s Atmosphere...
Global warming occurs due to an increase in the average temperature of the earth s atmosphere.
Various reasons as discussed in task 3 lead to the rise in temperature around the earth. The reasons
include deforestation, burning fossil fuels, increase in human population and increase in the
amount of carbon dioxideand other greenhouse gasses such as methane, chlorofluorocarbons,
nitrous oxide and water vapor in the atmosphere. (Dai, 2013) Greenhouse gasses are produced
when fossil fuels or wood is burned. In other cases, when plants rot, carbon and methane are
released into the atmosphere. Global warming can be controlled through the following ways:
preservation of forests, minimal use of fossil fuels in energy production, efficient use of energy
and use of low carbon or zero carbon technology.
Conservation of forests: Forests can be preserved through prevention of deforestation and through
planting more trees. The importance of forests in controlling global warming applies where the
trees use up carbon dioxide during photosynthesis and therefore reduce the carbon dioxide
concentration in the atmosphere. Carbon, which is a component of carbon dioxide, is stored in the
trees and is necessary for tree growth. Therefore, preservation of trees ensures minimal circulation
of carbon and its products in the atmosphere. (Spies A.S. Mori, 2013) Deforestation has currently
become a daily activity and the number of trees affected is massive. Deforestation can be

Change Over Time Essay Isabella s Baking Journey Baking has always been a part of my life,
from when my dad used to bake when I was barely a year old to now when I have carved my own
path. Even though I have always been surrounded by baking I didn t start independently until I was
eleven, then peaking when I made a summer trifle for my grandmother s birthday two years ago.
Since then baking has been a constant in my life, but has helped grow and learn as a person. When
I was eleven I wanted to be a baker so I acted on my interested in baking, by making a pan of bar
cookies all by myself, I was so ecstatic about this accomplishment; however we ended up only
eating about an 8th of them and our dog got the rest. I

Bystander Behavior
This essay will be looking at two different cases of bystander behaviour and the similarities
between them and differences. How they compare and contrast with reasoning behind why
individuals or groups react in the manner they do. Using two examples from Jovan Byford (2014)
Living together, living apart: the social life of the neighbourhood , in John Clarke and Kath
Woodward, G. (eds) Understanding Social Lives, Part Two, Milton Keynes: The Open University.
These examples cover two approaches the first explaining why people do not intervene to help
others when in danger and the second using the discourse approach to the same situation. Using
various discussion evidence the essay will put together an outline of the two examples and then

With 38 witnesses who could have prevented the murder from happening if any of them had made
a constructive step to intervene. These cases have promoted many investigations into bystander
research to determine the factors to not assist someone in an emergency situation (Jovan Byford,
2014, p. 227). In both cases a couple of the bystanders made some attempt but not enough to have
been of any impact on preventing the matter happening. In both cases this was not a sudden
murder but they both took as in Genovese lasted half an hour of stabbing while with Bulger the
child was abducted and for a couple of hours assaulted in the streets of his hometown before being
murdered on secluded land. During both these cases any of the bystanders has plenty of opportunity
to intervene. From the studies performed by Latane and Darley (1970) this is something known as
bystander effect which is where the presence of another bystander reduces the likelihood of
intervention (Jovan Byford, 2014, p. 232). The experiment discovered that it doesn t matter what
sort of person you are when there is an emergency but factors such whether someone else is
present or not makes a huge impact. The media outrage at the Genovese murder was the same
outrage shown 30 years later for the Bulger murder with the 38 bystanders not intervening. The
media showed both set of bystanders in a negative aspect as a failure of society that they all could
have done something to prevent the murders of Genovese and

Witchcraft Hysteria
There were many significant factors that came into play at the time of the Salem witchcraft
hysteria. Of the numerable amount of factors that contributed to the hysteria the most influential
were religion, superstition, politics, economics, and concepts of gender during this time period.
People during the 1600 s lacked a basic understanding of how things around them worked
compared to what is known and generally accepted in today s world of science. For this sole reason
the concept of magicand witchcraftwas widely and generally accepted by a large majority of the
population during this time period. People often used false accusations of witchcraft against their
neighbors because it gave them a simple way to steal another person s land. Women were also not
trustworthy sources.
Religion played the most crucial role in the development of the witch hysteria. Residents in the
town of Salem were Puritans, which meant they were very immoderate in their beliefs.
Puritans believed their life purpose was to serve God, which meant vanquishing evil even if
there was no evil present. The average lifestyle of a Puritan was monotonous and dull; they
believed life was meant to be simple, and any spare time should have been spent serving God.
Puritans strived to exterminate any presence of the Devil or evil they could find so they could
pursue their quest of being worthy of being saved by their God. Puritans looked down to people
that did not serve God the same way that they did, and they

The Invention Of Tradition By Eric Hobsbawm And Terence...
Tradition is an integral and powerful aspect of life for everyone on the planet. From the
rainforests of Madagascar to the bustling metropolis of New York City, cultural, religious, and
social traditions are engrained in the very fiber of human identity. Due to this fierce loyalty to one
s traditions, we as people, don t often question where are traditions came from. We ignore the
questions about their ethics and moral values, and turn a blind eye to traditions that just don t
necessarily make sense. The Invention of Tradition by Eric Hobsbawm and Terence Ranger delves
into this avoided facet of history how traditions become what they are to society. The cultural life of
Walesin the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries provides a striking parallel to the mindset of a
large demographic of American citizens today. The conservative, nationalist peoples of the United
Statesis a group full of paradox. They feel their history and culture of life being slowly stripped
away, so they fanatically hold onto their beliefs with untamed ferocity. On the one hand the decay
or demise of an ancient way of life, writes Prys Morgan, on the other an unprecedented outburst of
interest in things Welsh and a highly self conscious activity to preserve...them (Morgan, 43). The
United States has seen this phenomenon unfold in front of their eyes this year, with the
reemergence of a faction of people whom feel forgotten, searching for their past amongst political
and social rubble. With the 2016

with maintaining control over supply and quality, McDonalds uses suppliers which have

costly for the supplier to cease its contract with McDonalds. This leaves McDonalds in a

What We Are Advertisers By James Twitchell
Advertising has come a long way in terms of advancement with the enlightenment of the new
technological age we live in now. In James Twitchell s essay What We Are to Advertisers, the
author explains that mass production means mass marketing, and mass marketing means the
creation of mass stereotypes. Generally, the use of stereotypical profiling in our society not only
exists in regards to race, social class, personality type, and gender but also holds a special meaning
in advertisingcircles as well. To advertisers, stereotyping has become an effective means to pitch
their products according to the personality profiles they have concocted for us and are most times
eerily accurate. For instance, according to advertisers, the daytime... Show more content on

The Believers are people who support traditional codes of family, church, and community,
wearing good Republican cloth coats. These are predictable people who wear and recognize

buying objects such as prestige cars to show it. The Strivers are usually a little unsure of
themselves. They are willing to buy brands as long as it is a prestigious name brand. According
to Twitchell, Money defines their success but they don t have enough of it (Twitchell). The

The Strugglers are usually chronically poor people who enjoy materialism whenever they can

stereotypical profiles so accurately just by watching our behaviors, observing our lifestyles,
ascertaining our disposable income, and studying our set of values. Is our buying pattern really
connected to the things we believe in and what we do for a living? Whether we are consciously
aware of it or not, it is personally amazing just how much a simple purchase can reveal about am

However, even if prostitution is legal for sex trade workers who enter this lifestyle freely and
deliberately, it is important to look at the choice and constraints in the performance of this deviant
activity. Is prostitution a form of sexual deviance, a paid work, or a troubled response to childhood
abuse?
Causes of Women entering Prostitution
Most street prostitutes have common backgrounds; they are women and men who come from the
lower socio economic strata, and who are or were greatly dissatisfied with some aspects of their
home life (Lowman, 1992, p.54).
Research on prostitution shows some basic patterns in the family backgrounds of people involved
in prostitution. Often less than 18 years of age, most have few qualifications for other work.
Various reasons can be invoked as to why young adults turn to prostitution; poverty, mental illness,
homelessness, a history of childhood emotional, physical or sexual abuse.
Troubled childhood
Usually, prostitutes leave home at a very early age (67% of prostitutes enter the profession under
the age of eighteen). The average age of sex workers is 13 years old (Silbert, amp; Pines, 1982,
p.122). However, some are as young as young as 11 years old, as Wayne Chamberlain (1998) notes.
All the factors influencing this decision

Classroom Management In The Classroom
Classroom management is one of the most essential elements of teaching. Classroom management
refers to the wide variety of skills and techniques that teachers use to keep students organized,
orderly, focused, attentive, on task, and academically productive during a class . Therefore, without
good classroom management the classroom will not be an environment of learning, rather it will be
an environment of chaos. My personal philosophy of educationpulls elements from three different
models assertive discipline, CHAMPS, and capturing kids hearts. The main goal of the assertive
discipline model is to put the teacher in charge of the classroom. However, teachers are also
expected to treat students as their allies in the learning experience. Although there are elements of
assertive discipline that I do not agree with, my idea of discipline in the classroom aligns best with
this model. When using assertive discipline, the teacher decides on the class rules before school
begins. The teacher also has a system of both positive and negative consequences in place.
Additionally, consequences occur in a hierarchy system, known as the discipline hierarchy. The
discipline hierarchy is a system of between 3 6 different consequences that become harsher as a
student continues to misbehave. For a first offense, the student is simply given a warning. If the
student continues to misbehave than the second and third time they are taken out of an activity.

Narrative Voices in Shelley s Frankenstein and Fathers...
Narrative Voices in Shelley s Frankenstein and Fathers and Sons by Ivan Turgenev
I have chosen to compare the narrative voices of Frankenstein and
Fathers and Sons, as the perspectives in these two novels differ from one another. Frankenstein s
narrative voice contains tales of three characters within one narrative, none belonging directly to the
author, whereas the narrative voice of Fathers and Sons, is that of the author alone.
Examples I will be using are taken from The Realist Novel (TRN), and from the novels of
Frankenstein (F) and Fathers and Sons (F S).
Mary Shelley s novel Frankenstein is an example of first person narrative, with Walton describing
his encounters in letters to his sister Margaret, in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
(P53 F).
This novel also includes narrative perspectives that shape the fictional world in the realist novel
genre. Instances of this come from Victors childhood, which seemed idyllic, with his mother and
father devoted to him, the innocent and helpless creature bestowed on them by heaven and I was
so guided by a silken cord that all seemed but one train of enjoyment to me (P.33 F). And when
the monster is relating his tale to Victor, of how he learnt the basic principles of survival, stating
when I was oppressed by cold, I found fire and
searching in vain for a few acorns to assuage the pangs of hunger and of his hideout I found it an
agreeable asylum from the snow and rain . (P.99 F). This perspective is plausible, giving a
romantic feel to the novel, when Frankenstein s physical attempt to reconstruct the human frame
serves as an image for the goal of Romantic artists: the spiritual regeneration of man (p.65 TRN).
The pathos generated by his tale is intensified by the monster being inspired and consoled by
nature, as he describes to Victor my senses were gratified and refreshed by a thousand scents of
delight and a thousand sights of beauty with the onset of spring, (p.111 F). Also, thankfulness
towards the blessed sun, which bestowed such joy upon me (p.134 F).
When the narrative perspective changes, we have a contrast to these joys as he is rejected as an
ugly detestable monster , at a

The Shack Reflection
Life can be a complicated and messy world, but knowing that we have someone in our
presence(God), allows us to fit into this world and know that we are loved. The movie Shack
focuses on the beauty of our relationship with God and in our growth with him. When we lose
someone, who is close to us, it is hard to lose our relationship with God. We simply want to punish
him for taking away our loved one and lose our devotion to him. Losing sight and track of who
you are is a common sign of going into complete darkness in your relationship with God. This
movie is a beautiful representation of improving your relationship with the one who truly matters
in your life. I believe you should watch The Shack because it will show you the struggles the main
character, Mack, faces in his relationship with God and how to turn it all around.
The Shack is about a man, Mack Phillips, who comes face to face with the unknown. He suffers a
tragedy, nothing he thought would ever happen to him. His past relationship as a child was abusive,
not the usual loving and caring and dreamy family style. He grows out of his past relationship and
marries into a loving and Christian family. He and his two daughters and son go on a camping
trip where they will have to face the big ugly past. At this camping trip, Mack s five year old
daughter is kidnapped and killed by an unknown man. After this event, Mack s relationship with
God goes down the burner; but one day his life changes for the better. He is sent

The Battle Between Cell in the Body and Pathogens in the...
A constant battle occurs between the cells in the body and the pathogens in the environment. As
a result, humans have evolved a very complex immune system to protect against the pathogens.
Some of the cells that make up the adaptive immune system are the T cells and B cells. They are
the body s defence against pathogens at a cellular level by recognising a range of features which
may be present on a pathogen and are able to facilitate the destruction of the pathogen by binding
to it. Additionally, the cells need to be able to identify a wide range of antigens and to produce a
large response to the antigen when the correct antibody is produced(Chaplin, 2010). In this essay,
the mechanism of T and C cell development will be investigated and the development of T cells
and B cells will be compared and contrasted.
T and B cells both begin development in the bone marrow as haematopoietic stem cells(Liu et al.,
2013). The cells that will become T cells then migrate to the thymus where they mature and the B
cells stay in the bone marrow to mature. The function of each cell type is similar in that they both
need to protect the body against pathogens; however the mechanisms that they do this differ. T cells
bind to antigens from the pathogen presented by MHC molecules whereas B cells produce
antibodies from the pathogen directly and do not need the antigen to be presented by another cell.
Both T and B cells need to undergo tolerance tests to make sure they won t be reactive to self

HRM itself can be subdivided into three domains: Micro HRM, Strategic HRM, and International
HRM (Boxall et al., 2007b). Micro HRM is concerned with practices within the sub‐functions of
HRM, drawing on long traditions of studies on such aspects as selection, appraisal, and pay.
Strategic HRM and International HRM are both more systemic or macro in their outlook. Strategic
HRM is concerned with how HR practices cluster into HR systems, and with the relationships
between HR strategy and the organization s internal and external contexts and its performance
outcomes. International HRM focuses on HRM in companies operating across national boundaries

A butterfly is a mainly day flying insect of the order Lepidoptera, which includes the butterflies and
moths. Like other holometabolous insects, the butterfly s life cycle consists of four parts: egg,
larva, pupa and adult. Most species are diurnal. Butterflies have large, often brightly coloured
wings, and conspicuous, fluttering flight. Butterflies comprise the true butterflies (superfamily
Papilionoidea), the skippers (superfamily Hesperioidea) and the moth butterflies (superfamily
Hedyloidea). All the many other families within the Lepidopteraare referred to as moths. The
earliest known butterflyfossils date to the mid Eocene epoch, between 40 50 million years ago.

As Lepidoptera, butterflies have four wings that are covered with tiny scales (see photo). The fore
and hindwings are not hooked together, permitting a more graceful flight. An adult butterfly has
six legs, but in the nymphalids, the first pair is reduced. After it emerges from its pupal stage, a
butterfly cannot fly until the wings are unfolded. A newly emerged butterfly needs to spend some
time inflating its wings with blood and letting them dry, during which time it is extremely
vulnerable to predators. Some butterflies wings may take up to three hours to dry while others take
about one hour. Most butterflies and moths will excrete excess dye after hatching. This fluid may

What do we mean? Look at the words independent of the definition, and consider how each
person creates his or her own ethical boundaries. Besides, moral principles were clearly differing
from person to person; wars are predicated on these notions. For the philosophy it is a belief

In term of motives, one person might differ from circumstance to circumstance. The

We now want to look into the International Accounting Standards Board and framework for the

lot of countries are starting to adopt IFRS to report their financial statements. One of the reasons
why many countries made the switch over to IFRS is because the decision of the U.S. SEC to
allow foreign private issuers to list their securities on U.S.

Impact Of Globalization On Indian Social Structure
ABSTRACT:
Caste has always been integral to the Indian social structure. Be it in the historical era or be it in
the globalized era, caste has managed not to cease from the Indian society. Though the nature of
caste system has changed tremendously, the basic crux remains the same, i.e. the majority of the
backward castes/ social groups still remain backward. The globalization era might have an era of
positive impact on nations world wide, ironically, it has managed to leave negative impacts too.
Similarly, globalization has impacted caste too. It is a phenomenon that has not only led to
pauperization but has rapidly increased social inequalities. In this paper, an attempt shall be made
to analyze the impact globalization has left on castes. The following section of this paper shall try
and reflect on issues like education, employment, poverty etc in context to Dalits in India.
INTRODUCTION:
The term globalization had started gaining prominence towards the end of twentieth century. Over
the period of time, it has become one of the most discussed phenomenon. It is not about the process
of international integration of nations and their economic activities, but as a matter fact, it is way
more complex involving other factors like environmental challenges, politics and other socio
cultural aspects.
Speaking of globalization, it promises not just development and prosperity for all at a global level,
but also ensures social welfare and freedom. However, in the past few years,

The Book Of The Grotesques, Hands, And The Teacher By...
In Sherwood Anderson s three short stories The Book of the Grotesques , Hands and The
Teacher we confront the beauty and difficulty in existing amongst multiple beautiful, harsh truths
in a world where so many choose and push only one. These stories in succession reminded me of
Mark Edmundson paraphrasing William Carlos Williams: People die miserably every day for
lack of what is found in despised poems (1). But what Anderson brings us is another version of a
small, poetic, dangerous layering of truths. Adolf Myers, Kate Swift and their students live in a
world of small, lowercase t truths, where affection given and received is not automatically perverse.
Their ruin comes from the fact that they are denied permission to have this affection... Show more

As Walt Whitman put it in Leaves of Grass, Do I contradict myself? / Very well then I contradict
myself, / I am large, I contain multitudes . Anderson s writer would tell us that human touch is
essential and that we spend many more awake, aware hours feeling lonely than we will ever
acknowledge much less admit. He would tell us that nothing heals and nothing scars like human
connection, physical or otherwise. He would tell us that even the idea of affection gone wrong is
enough to beat a successful school master into the dirt of his own playground. He would give us
these truths, and tell us that living required us to be able to juggle them all, simultaneously. He
would tell us that every action teaching, touching, caring, inspiring is performed on a tightrope, and
that they all have the capacity to go right or

The Impact Of The Catholic Reformation
The Catholic Reformation was initiated after the Protestant Reformation as a way to resolve the
problems within the church. The Catholic Church started to lose many followers because people
began to convert to Lutheranism or Calvinism. Already, parts of Germany, Scandinavia,
Switzerland, France, the Netherlands, and parts of eastern Europe separated from Rome. Without,
the revenue that these countries provided the popewould not have enough money to support the
construction of new buildings. In addition, the separation amongst religious beliefs divided Europe.
Therefore, the Catholic Churchbegan to adjust medieval Catholicism, so that it would conform
with new conditions. The Catholic Reformation was successful in the aspect that it lead the way
for further reform within the Catholic Church. During the Catholic Reformation, reform within
the church and religious revivals were the main focus. The revival of religious orders was
beneficial to the reform of Catholicism because they assisted in spreading the Gospel. Earlier
religious orders such as, the Benedictines and Dominicans were restored and renewed. In the
same manner, new orders emerged as well. They were called, The Capuchins, The Theatines, and
The Ursulines, these orders helped the common people in different ways. As these religious orders
formed relationships with the people they were also, spreading Catholicism. One of the most
notable religious orders was, The Society of Jesus. People in The Society of Jesus

A Summary Of The Nicaraguan Revolution
Left Side of Poster:
The Nicaraguan Civil War is more commonly known as the Nicaraguan Revolution. These were the
events that made up the revolution:
In February 1990, Nicaragua s Sandinista government crashed to defeat in a general election. It
secured only 41% of the national vote compared with 55% for its conservative opponents. Rising
opposition to the Somoza dictatorship began in the 1960s and 1970s, due to humanitarian abuses.
A group of rebellious guerillas under the name of the Sandinistas started to attack the Nicaraguan
government, seizing government officials and sparking the Nicaraguan Revolution.
The Somoza dynasty was overthrown after the National Sandinista Revolution, which took place
when people from all sectors joined forces and finally defeated the Somoza dynasty and the
National Guard on July 19, 1979.

The Importance Of The Green Environment
Society as a whole is struggling to balance old dominant western environment ideals with new green
environment ideals. As science shows the effects of climate change, and the detriments of a
Western consumerist culture on the environment, many people are shifting towards a more green,
eco friendly philosophy. This shift of being conscious of the environment, has prompted some
people and companies to make honest changes to preserve and help the environment. This starting
shift in society of being eco friendly has prompted many businesses to jump on this trend, as it looks
better to consumers and often saves or makes the companies money. Despite, this new societal shift
toward a green paradigm, many parts of society want to hold onto to dominant western ideals of
controlling and using the environment s resources to the advantage of humans. Society is currently
wrestling, with whether to follow the ideas of the dominant western paradigm, or the newer green
paradigm. Many parts of society are shifting towards a green paradigm, but is this for genuine
environmental reasons, or to make money and products, that continue to feed into the consumerism
ideals of the old dominant western paradigm? The dominant western environmental paradigm can
be described as, the anthropocentric belief that humans are separate from and superior to the natural
environment, which has status only as resource or commodity available for exploitation through
technology. It has no intrinsic worth.

Civil War Narrative Essay
Inside the camouflaged tent, four men stood around a large table. The only illumination coming
from an overhead lamp shining down on a map covered with red, green and grey blocks. Listening
intently to the headsets they each wore they would occasionally reach out with thin poles they each
held and move one or more of the green and red blocks, maneuvering them around the larger grey
blocks that indicated one of the nearby city s buildings.
Striding into the tent a young officer glanced over the map, swore and strode back out, barking
orders into the heavy downpour to the assembled troops. After a few moments of gentle silence, the
officer re entered the tent, this time with several other officers in tow.

Criticism Of Medea
I cannot find one reason for divorcing theatrics from history why must history wear such a dry
cloak of dullness? I love theatre and you see its profound effects in my writing especially tragedy.
History is dramatized through speeches and conversations among the characters I portray, so much
that people have coined the term tragic history to encapsulate my works, in which I proudly claim
ownership.
Euripedes has been thought to be a mediocre playwright but nonetheless determinedly produces
more plays. I have long admired his tenacity in being an innovator amidst a scene that constantly
subjects him to ridicule. With my status as a tragic historian as some may put it, I am in an
informed position to critique this play. My belief is that people accord him with less recognition
than he actually deserves, and I genuinely appreciate the ingenious tragic elements he incorporates
to distinguish Medea from other mainstream tragedies.
As a historian and a Greek citizen, nomos is a concept close to my heart. Before the play, Medea
was portrayed as a ruthless witch renowned for her sorcery and deception. Even though she ... Show

He reasons that his move is politically and economically prudent, claiming that it is to breed a

bear children. This only mounts her fury towards him, and readers, fully aware of Medea s
historical barbarism, are mentally prepared foreshadowing for Medea s heinous revenge against his
treachery (tragic end).
I have observed a fair bit of tragic motives dominating the play that I have incorporated in my own
writings. The motives span revenge, or tisis to tragic warners

Inception
Everyday new movies are made within the world with amazing cinematography, music, sound, and
actors. By far, Inception is one of the greatest movies I have ever seen. Inception is different from
extraction and throughout this movie you may get confused. Inception is the implantation of
another person s idea into a target s subconscious. Where as extraction is placing a thought in the
mind in a dream. Throughout Inception, Cobb s team builds dreams and within those dreams there
are levels. In the movie, they are trying to go three levels deep within one dream. In the beginning
of the movie, they start off with Cobb, the main character who wants to see his children but is
unable to, laying on the beach. It is intriguing because no one knows... Show more content on

The music and sounds are loud and interesting. When an important or scary scene would be
approaching, the music would get louder to let the watchers know that an important event is about
to occur. The acting of Leonardo DiCaprio, also known as Cobb, is amazing. The way he fills the
dream with his subconscious is one of his best traits in the movie. Ellen Page, who is Ariadne
the new architect in the movie, is also an exceptional actor. They way she builds the dream to
make it look so realistic is mind blowing to me. When she made the town flip over itself in the
movie, I was in shock to see the level of intelligence that one can have by setting their mind to it.
In the end, when Cobb is with his children and he spins the top to see if he is in a dream or not,
they cut it off so that way you can imagine if it would fall or keep spinning. I thought that scene
was one of the most enticing scenes I have ever watched in any movie. It made me want to watch
an Inception 2, even though that s not a real movie. In the end, I would like to believe that the top
would fall over so that way Cobb and his children being reunited would be real and not in a dream.
I would recommend this movie to anyone who is into movies about going into the minds of

Power Of Words In The Book Thief By Markus Zusak
In the Book Thief by: Markus Zusak, the quote: power of words or languages to heal destroy is
very important because of the part that words played in how the characters in the book felt
when they were spoken. Some words were to dehumanize a people, to take away all hope of a
the a freedom that they once knew, and also words were used to give hope in a time that seemed
hopeless. The leaders and soldiers used their words to excite fear in the hearts of those that they
were terrorizing. Liesel used her words to give comfort in otherwise stressful environment filled
with fear and death. This is an accurate depiction of how words can heal and destroy depending on
the context in which they are used. Words are very important in this book because

My Passion For North Carolina Basketball
My passion for North Carolina basketball began the moment I understood what basketball was.
One evening while we were watching a game, my father, a graduate of the University of North
Carolina, declared me a fan of the Tar Heels. Without any objection, I made the decision to be a
fan. Little did I know that I would have countless memories on account of this decision.
At the young age of 7, my devotion and loyalty to the team had already grown to an emotional
level. I took each outcome personally, as though I was a part of the team myself. Already enjoying
the championship win of 2005, North Carolina fans like me were lucky to experience such success
each year. However, my expectations rose to a level that would leave me disappointed ... Show

I was discouraged by his abandonment of the team. I decided to never leave a game no matter
the score. Although to no surprise, Kansas won. I could not believe it. A stream of tears began
to run down my face as I ran up the stairs to deliver the horrible news to my father, who was
disappointed but not surprised. I sprawled out onto the floor dispirited and let out a cry for longer
than the baby had. My father made an attempt to stop me, but my sadness was not to be argued
with. Today, I laugh at the story, impressed by the amount of passion and importance I held in a
simple game.
The following year, Carolina fans returned with even higher expectations. Over the course of the
regular season, these expectations were fulfilled. Entering the tournament as a top seed with the
same starting squad, the team was faced with a similar challenge to the one that they were
defeated by the year before. Taking advantage of the Elite Eight game in Memphis, my father,
brother, and I traveled to watch the game against Oklahoma live at the FedExForum. As we
entered the arena, I became nervous considering the possibility of defeat. We found our seats and
prepared for tip off. Late in the second half, North Carolina took a sizeable lead that would put the
Heels ahead for good. The confetti that rained down put a smile on my face. Watching the players
cut down the nets, I knew that I would always be a Carolina fan. The team would continue to defeat
Villanova and later

Hard Work In Odysseus
Many think their work is physically straining, yet, none compares to what Atlas demonstrates. Atlas

Sheila Priestley s Play Sheila
Advice to An Actor Playing Sheila
When creating the character Sheila Priestley s aim was to show the audience that the younger
generation of Birlings, and therefore the younger generation of society, were the ones who were
the most forward thinking and were the most likely to agree with a policy of socialism. Sheila is
also used as a means to highlight the stupidity and selfishness of Mr and Mrs Birling and Gerald.
The play begins with the Birling family celebrating the engagement of Sheila and Gerald. Despite
the fact that Sheila is an adult, her family are seen to treat her as a child. This should be reflected
in the way that the actress presents Sheila, as this is likely to be a response to her immature
personality. The actress must also be aware that during 1912 women were subordinate to men,
therefore it must be clear that Sheila has a lower position of power than her finance Gerald. This
opening scene has a celebratory mood, therefore ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The actress should try to show that deep down Sheila is upset about the fact that Gerald never
came to see her. This line also plays a crucial role in highlighting to the audience that the
relationship between Gerald and Sheila is not as happy as it had previously seemed. When
Sheila first finds out the news of Eva Smith s death she is visibly distressed and horrified.
Despite the upsetting news, the actress needs to make it clear that Sheila is vein and is still
ignorant to the lower classes. This is due to the fact that on of the first questions about Eva s death
is regarding her appearance pretty? . To Sheila the fact that Eva was pretty is what makes her death
even more upsetting. Therefore Sheila believes that a woman s value comes from how pretty they

Freaks Talk Back by Joshua Gamson
Reality style talk shows like Jerry Springer were gaining momentum and popularity during the
mid 1990 s. In Joshua Gamson s Freaks Talk Back he uses extensive research, interviews and
transcripts along with his own observations as an audience member, and discusses an involved
process that explains how LGBT guests become stars of tabloid television. Gamson s main
argument is that the genre of tabloid talk shows focuses a lot on the sexual orientation of the
guests, which provided a lot of much needed media attention for the LGBT community. These
shows portrayed the guests as jokes or sickos. Even though these guests were exploited for
profits, Gamson credits this genre of talk shows for making the LGBT people mainstream and
more socially acceptable than any other time during the 20th century. Gamson says that Very few
people are willing to embrace the monster or freak label, even in order to humanize it, since doing
so is to put oneself largely outside of social recognition. (Gamson pg. 168) In Foucault s article,
Sexual Discourse and Power, Foucault argues that we have looked at the history of sexuality since
the 18th century in what Foucault calls the repressive hypothesis. The repressive hypothesis
suggests that since the emergence of the bourgeoisie, any energy placed on something purely
pleasurable instead of work, has been frowned upon. Because of this, sex has been treated as a
private affair that should only be taking

Essay On My Life Experience
Each day we all experience things that are extraordinary and sometimes unforgettable. Yet it s
how we let those experiences impact us individually that makes us each unique. An experience
in my life that changed how I acted, thought, and felt was the first time I volunteered at my
church during their summer scamp sessions. The scamp sessions aimed to make the lessons
correlate to things the kids would do during summer camps. Serving at one of these session
allowed the year round volunteers to continue serving if they wanted, but also have the ability to
take a vacation and enjoy the church s service. Although life offers a multitude of life changing
experiences, serving at Mecklenburg Community Church for the first time was greatest
experience because I gained connections in my community, learned strong leadership skills and
gained a desire to serve others first. It all began when I attended my first scamp session and I
had several opportunities for jobs outside of the church over the summer and translating into the
school year. The first time I served at Meck I was able to meet and be introduced to three
families at the church who later reached out to me for weekly opportunities to work with their
kids. In seeing the kids both in and outside of church over the summer scamps I gained more
insight of their lives and personalities. One specific family that I met the first time I volunteered
was the Harris family. I made a close bond with their youngest daughter

  • 2. The Lord of the Rings directed by Peter Jackson Essay The Art and the Business of My Inspirational Film A cultural product that inspires me is the film trilogy The Lord of the Rings, which was directed by Peter Jackson. This movie gave me inspiration because of how beautiful and well put together the film was. It made me want to be involved with the process of how great films are made. According to Wikipedia, Jackson knew he wanted to bring the movie to the big screen, and was curious to why nobody decided to do so. He wanted to take advantage of the new technology, and create a fantasy that was serious and felt real (Wikipedia, 2014). Peter Jackson demonstrates the art and business of the film in many ways, which is culturally inspiring. The trilogy is about a hobbit named Frodo Baggins... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Peter Jackson watched the animation of The Lord of the Rings, which lead him to read Tolkien s novels. He was interested in making the Hobbit series first, but put the project on hold because he was offered to remake the film King Kong. So then he wanted to film King Kong before the trilogy, but had to put it on hold because of location problems, so he began with The Lord of the Rings project. Jackson wanted to make sure that everything would run smoothly for the film, so he got started with rereading the books and developing a script (Wikipedia, 2014). According to the web, Peter Jackson created the remake of Tolkien s novel because he was a fan of the original work and wanted to bring it to life. He was inspired by his 12 hour train ride when he was younger, the whole train ride he read the novels as he stared at the New Zealand landscape (TheLordoftheRings.net). Jackson shot the whole movie at multiple locations within New Zealand s conservation and national parks area (Wikipedia, 2014). I am pretty sure that most of the movie was shoot in green screen because they were in the middle of nowhere. The movie has a lot alluring special effects that makes me feel like they re actually watching something that is real. Critic Rob Blackwelder, in his review, Hobbit Forming, tells about how director Peter Jackson, has brought the monumental ambience, the distinctive characters and the ... • 3. Free Speech Persuasive Speech What is free speech? Does the term free speech cover offensive words? Painful ones? Words that disrespect others? What about objectionable, or even wrong beliefs? When is speech illegal? What is exactly meant by free speech? According to Rampell, the term free speech includes hate speech , and is therefore protected by the first amendment (np). This means that even messages we don t like, agree with, feel uncomfortable about, or even are disgusted by, are legal. Unfortunately, many college students consider harmful words an assault, and some students believe that such verbal attacks can and should be met with violence (French np). Students and speakers today are discriminated against in classrooms and other scenes where free speech and debateshould be especially cherished. In 2017 alone, there have been multiple riots born of originally peaceful protests. Students in Middlebury College in Vermont revolted at a peaceful debate with far right Charles Murray. While Murray tried to reach his building, a mob formed, forcing him and his debate partner, Allison Stanger, to move to another building (Beinhart np). When Murray and Stanger tried to leave, they and the car they were in were attacked by students. The leftist Stanger was sent to the emergency room because she tried to protect the guest (Fatzick np). In Berkeley, California, students were up in arms, wanting to prevent Milo Yiannopoulos from speaking. Their haste to silence a man they disagreed with led to a huge disaster. In the streets, fellow classmates were attacked. One student who supported President Trump was brutally beaten, and an innocent bystander who claimed to be Muslim was assaulted for looking like a Nazi (Ramaiyer np). Others were beset upon as well, with pepper spray, matches, and baseball bats. In total, only one person was arrested (French np). Unless this one person attacked this many people and businesses, it s safe to assume that dozens of perpetrators have gone unpunished for the crime of hurting a human being! This free speech is not protected under the First Amendment. People are hurting other people. Another time Mr. Yiannopoulos attempted to give a speech, protesters rudely barged into the lecture hall, interrupting the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The first question the arises in my mind while watching any Malayalam movie is why does the nationally and internationally acclaimed Malayalam or for that matter any South Indian Cinema fail to represent women s experiences, Why are The Female leads just subjected to basic chores, or as an object of desire? Me being a Woman find it very disturbing to see woman being labelled in the same umbrella. Indian cinema has always been under the line of fire for its potrayal of women as objects of desire. Be it in the case of Mandakini, Parveen Babi or the current crop of actresses. From Sheila Ki Jawaani to Munni ki Badnaami , its usually women who are utilized as objects of desire and sexual objects. The situation is no different in Indian culture where In reality the birth of a girl child is frowned and looked down upon with disrespect in some parts of India and shockingly even among elite and educated Indians, whereas the Birth of a boy is celebrated. There are some predominant principles that can guide the Army s efforts in minimizing the impact of uncertainty during the force reduction. Even with major political and legislative challenges, keeping balance among the different proportions of readiness is a goal of US defense policy. During the budgetary preparation, downsizing of the armed forces often becomes one of the first victims of fiscal reduction. This was true of the years between World War I and World War II, when the Great Depression made military preparedness a very low national priority. The Army s downsizing effect put its readiness... Wong (2013) quotes the Army reduction as follows, One would be hard pressed to find anyone who would claim that the post Vietnam downsizing, typified by insensitive dismissals of combat veterans via pink slips accompanied by almost nonexistent transition assistance, is an example of a well executed reduction in force. The Army s success in battles becomes a product of its readiness, training, and equipment and of course its size. In the American history, the success of the first battles was a product of combination of all the mentioned factors and especially reduction of the military numbers. Due to the public s will and pressure for downsizing the force after conflicts and increasing the number right before the following conflicts, the will to repair the damage already done was almost obsolete. In his article, Dunn (2013) mentions, public reaction to the US first battles served as a catalyst for repairing the state of the Army . The downsizing routine followed after Cold War period, in order to match the proper rate of forces on the evolving and complicated environment. • 14. Fahrenheit 451 Society Analysis When Ron Jones had manipulated his class into a mild form of neo nazism, most, if not all, took notice, with the small exception of his class. His class had no idea what they became until the end of the experiment. This raises the question: How can you tell whether or not something is wrong with society? Now, obviously the whole something is wrong with society boils down to nothing more than an opinion, so as a way to measure it, I will focus on societies that are largely believed and generally accepted to be corrupt, so as much as I d love to talk about how screwed up our current society is, because I m in the unfortunate minority, I d have to stick with the Nazi regime and fictional governments. I will be presenting three different corrupt policies for each argument: Fahrenheit 451society, another fictional society, and real society The first sign that a government or society is corrupt is cruel or unusual punishment. Governments that punish those that have committed crimes that present no right to be punished. In Fahrenheit 451 , the greatest look we ever get at their punishment (besides the burning houses) is what happened to the poor chap minding his own business. The guy wasn t even doing anything even remotely criminal, but he still was subjected to lethal punishment. Another example is the IDW universe of Transformers. • 17. The Famous Concept Of Scientific Management The famous concept of Scientific Management was originated by Frederick W. Taylor few centuries ago. Scientific management is a way of organizing and administrating the industry with its own system involving rules, methods and policies (Thompson, 1916). His goal was to standardize and connect all the current improvements in industrial organization and to push it further according to his concept (Thompson, 1914). His work later gave inspiration to many researches from other fields (Wren, 2011). On the other hand, Elton Mayo research later on the Hawthorne Experiment has deviated the industrial psychology from what relates the worker s relationship to his job instead to workers prioritizing work relations and attitude (Cubbon, 1969). Elton Mayo then develops the concept of Human Relations by studying the workers in groups instead of how Taylor did by studying workers as individual. Through this, he noticed workers prefer working in groups and it even increases the productivity of the work place. (Ionescu Negrusa, 2013). According to Scientific management, workers were assumed to be passive and reluctant to put in all their effort without the interference of the management. They also try to minimise and even avert responsibility (Hekman, 2002). Besides, it is inferred that workers have cooperation dilemma where some workers try to disadvantage their own colleagues by doing less work but still earning the same profit, known also as the soldiering behaviour (Wagner Tsukamoto, ... • 18. The Physics of Piano One of the most common musical instruments in many homes is the piano; and most people have the opportunity for even a few lessons in their youth. However, despite the simplicity of its lines and keys (88 keys), 2 3 pedals on the modern piano, and either upright (vertical) or grand style (horizontal), the physics of the pianoare both interesting and complex. The modern piano is a descendent of the harpsichord, which used a plucking technique much like that of plucking the strings of a harp or lute. Bartolomeo Crisotofori, an Italian craftsman, substituted felt hammers in place of the plucking mechanism, making the instrument capable of graduations of tone and timber. He called his new instrument the Gravicembalo col piano e forte (a harpsichord with louds and softs). This was later shortened to the piano and with critiques from Baroque composers like Bach, a number of improvements were made to sound quality and tonality eventually emerging as the preferred keyboard instrument for Mozart, Haydn, and Beethoven. Over the course of centuries to different piano types have emerged. The grand piano, from 5 6 to 8 or 9 in length horizontal to the upright piano, more suitable for the home, which also exists in differing sizes, 3 5; in height (Parakilas). The mechanism of a piano consists of pressing on a key (either black or white) on the keyboard causing a felt covered hammer to strike steel strings that are various lengths and tensions. • 19. The Effects Of Global Warming On The Earth s Atmosphere... Global warming occurs due to an increase in the average temperature of the earth s atmosphere. Various reasons as discussed in task 3 lead to the rise in temperature around the earth. The reasons include deforestation, burning fossil fuels, increase in human population and increase in the amount of carbon dioxideand other greenhouse gasses such as methane, chlorofluorocarbons, nitrous oxide and water vapor in the atmosphere. (Dai, 2013) Greenhouse gasses are produced when fossil fuels or wood is burned. In other cases, when plants rot, carbon and methane are released into the atmosphere. Global warming can be controlled through the following ways: preservation of forests, minimal use of fossil fuels in energy production, efficient use of energy and use of low carbon or zero carbon technology. Conservation of forests: Forests can be preserved through prevention of deforestation and through planting more trees. The importance of forests in controlling global warming applies where the trees use up carbon dioxide during photosynthesis and therefore reduce the carbon dioxide concentration in the atmosphere. Carbon, which is a component of carbon dioxide, is stored in the trees and is necessary for tree growth. Therefore, preservation of trees ensures minimal circulation of carbon and its products in the atmosphere. (Spies A.S. Of the numerable amount of factors that contributed to the hysteria the most influential were religion, superstition, politics, economics, and concepts of gender during this time period. People during the 1600 s lacked a basic understanding of how things around them worked compared to what is known and generally accepted in today s world of science. For this sole reason the concept of magicand witchcraftwas widely and generally accepted by a large majority of the population during this time period. People often used false accusations of witchcraft against their neighbors because it gave them a simple way to steal another person s land. Women were also not trustworthy sources. Religion played the most crucial role in the development of the witch hysteria. Residents in the town of Salem were Puritans, which meant they were very immoderate in their beliefs. From the rainforests of Madagascar to the bustling metropolis of New York City, cultural, religious, and social traditions are engrained in the very fiber of human identity. Due to this fierce loyalty to one s traditions, we as people, don t often question where are traditions came from. We ignore the questions about their ethics and moral values, and turn a blind eye to traditions that just don t necessarily make sense. The Invention of Tradition by Eric Hobsbawm and Terence Ranger delves into this avoided facet of history how traditions become what they are to society. The cultural life of Walesin the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries provides a striking parallel to the mindset of a large demographic of American citizens today. Classroom management refers to the wide variety of skills and techniques that teachers use to keep students organized, orderly, focused, attentive, on task, and academically productive during a class . Therefore, without good classroom management the classroom will not be an environment of learning, rather it will be an environment of chaos. My personal philosophy of educationpulls elements from three different models assertive discipline, CHAMPS, and capturing kids hearts. The main goal of the assertive discipline model is to put the teacher in charge of the classroom. However, teachers are also expected to treat students as their allies in the learning experience. Although there are elements of assertive discipline that I do not agree with, my idea of discipline in the classroom aligns best with this model. When using assertive discipline, the teacher decides on the class rules before school begins. The teacher also has a system of both positive and negative consequences in place. Additionally, consequences occur in a hierarchy system, known as the discipline hierarchy. The discipline hierarchy is a system of between 3 6 different consequences that become harsher as a student continues to misbehave. For a first offense, the student is simply given a warning. Mary Shelley s novel Frankenstein is an example of first person narrative, with Walton describing his encounters in letters to his sister Margaret, in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... (P53 F). This novel also includes narrative perspectives that shape the fictional world in the realist novel genre. Instances of this come from Victors childhood, which seemed idyllic, with his mother and father devoted to him, the innocent and helpless creature bestowed on them by heaven and I was so guided by a silken cord that all seemed but one train of enjoyment to me (P.33 F). And when the monster is relating his tale to Victor, of how he learnt the basic principles of survival, stating when I was oppressed by cold, I found fire and searching in vain for a few acorns to assuage the pangs of hunger and of his hideout I found it an agreeable asylum from the snow and rain . (P.99 F). This perspective is plausible, giving a romantic feel to the novel, when Frankenstein s physical attempt to reconstruct the human frame serves as an image for the goal of Romantic artists: the spiritual regeneration of man (p.65 TRN). The pathos generated by his tale is intensified by the monster being inspired and consoled by nature, as he describes to Victor my senses were gratified and refreshed by a thousand scents of delight and a thousand sights of beauty with the onset of spring, (p.111 F). As a result, humans have evolved a very complex immune system to protect against the pathogens. Some of the cells that make up the adaptive immune system are the T cells and B cells. They are the body s defence against pathogens at a cellular level by recognising a range of features which may be present on a pathogen and are able to facilitate the destruction of the pathogen by binding to it. Additionally, the cells need to be able to identify a wide range of antigens and to produce a large response to the antigen when the correct antibody is produced(Chaplin, 2010). In this essay, the mechanism of T and C cell development will be investigated and the development of T cells and B cells will be compared and contrasted. T and B cells both begin development in the bone marrow as haematopoietic stem cells(Liu et al., 2013). The cells that will become T cells then migrate to the thymus where they mature and the B cells stay in the bone marrow to mature. The function of each cell type is similar in that they both need to protect the body against pathogens; however the mechanisms that they do this differ. T cells bind to antigens from the pathogen presented by MHC molecules whereas B cells produce antibodies from the pathogen directly and do not need the antigen to be presented by another cell. A newly emerged butterfly needs to spend some time inflating its wings with blood and letting them dry, during which time it is extremely vulnerable to predators. Some butterflies wings may take up to three hours to dry while others take about one hour. Most butterflies and moths will excrete excess dye after hatching. The Catholic Reformation was successful in the aspect that it lead the way for further reform within the Catholic Church. During the Catholic Reformation, reform within the church and religious revivals were the main focus. The revival of religious orders was beneficial to the reform of Catholicism because they assisted in spreading the Gospel. This shift of being conscious of the environment, has prompted some people and companies to make honest changes to preserve and help the environment. In Joshua Gamson s Freaks Talk Back he uses extensive research, interviews and transcripts along with his own observations as an audience member, and discusses an involved process that explains how LGBT guests become stars of tabloid television. Gamson s main argument is that the genre of tabloid talk shows focuses a lot on the sexual orientation of the guests, which provided a lot of much needed media attention for the LGBT community. These shows portrayed the guests as jokes or sickos. Even though these guests were exploited for profits, Gamson credits this genre of talk shows for making the LGBT people mainstream and more socially acceptable than any other time during the 20th century.
