Doppler Effect
Doppler effect
The Doppler effect, named after Christian Doppler, is the change in frequency and wavelength of a
wave as perceived by an observer moving relative to the source of the waves. For waves that
propagate in a wave medium, such as sound waves, the velocity of the observer and of the source are
relative to the medium in which the waves are transmitted. The total Doppler effect may therefore
result from motion of the source, motion of the observer, or motion of the medium. Each of these
effects is analysed separately. For waves which do not require a medium, such as light or gravity in
special relativity, only the relative difference in velocity between the observer and the source needs to
be considered.

As mentioned previously, these two equations are only accurate to a first order approximation.
However, they work reasonably well in the case considered by Doppler, i.e. when the speed between
the source and receiver is slow relative to the speed of the waves involved and the distance between
the source and receiver is large relative to the wavelength of the waves. If either of these two
approximations are violated, the formulae are no longer accurate.
Analysis
It is important to realize that the frequency of the sounds that the source emits does not actually
change. To understand what happens, consider the following analogy. Someone throws one ball every
second in a man s direction. Assume that balls travel with constant velocity. If the thrower is
stationary, the man will receive one ball every second. However, if the thrower is moving towards the
man, he will receive balls more frequently because the balls will be less spaced out. The converse is
true if the thrower is moving away from the man. So it is actually the wavelength which is affected; as
a consequence, the perceived frequency is also affected. It may also be said that the velocity of the
wave remains constant whereas wavelength changes; hence frequency also changes.
If the moving source is emitting waves through a medium with an actual frequency f0, then an
observer stationary relative to the medium detects waves with a frequency f given by [pic]which can

The Duty to Report; The Duty to Warn; Confidentiality; and Privilege and their varying effects on
Constitutional Laws and Regulations.
This analytical research paper will be discussing some ethical issues as illustrated in Stephen Feldman
s video, Legal and Ethical Issues for Mental Health Professionals , which this include; the duty to
report; the duty to warn; Confidentiality; and Privilege. And also this paper will look into how these
ethical issues are implemented by the State of Maryland and the ACA code of ethics. Furthermore, in
the paper, there will be a discussion on my view point as to the varying discussions I saw on the video,

In addition to duty to reporting, I was quiet surprised at how mandated Laws requiring reporting and
the limitations to Confidentiality differ in various states, because coupled to what Joseph and Nellie
were discussing in Feldman s video , New York lawyer are not obligated to carry out reporting (Stein,
2004). In some cases, Professional Counselors/therapists are covered under attorney Client privilege,
if the Counselor/therapist is employed under the attorney, thus making reporting of an abuse void.
(Stein, p. 11). Furthermore on the issue of Confidentiality, I found the video s information and the
information I gathered from the State of Maryland, Board of Professional Counselors/therapists and
the ACA code of ethics websites, contradictory. According to the discussion, on the Video, a third
party can be granted access into a victim s records, but according to both Maryland and ACA code of
ethics websites, Clients recorded are not supposed to be made known to a third party, unless the Client
issues an informed consent. So I just think revealing a Client s information is in violation of the code
of conduct and HIPPA act, just like Nurse Brown and the incompetent social worker, they were in
violation of the Statue and I could say, COMAR 10.58.04; Professional Competence. Finally, on the
ethical issue on the duty to warn, in the case of Tatiana

Effects Of The Columbian Exchange
The Columbian Exchange is about exchanging goods from the New World to the Old World and vice
versa. During the Columbian Exchange, Europeans brought food, animals, technology, and diseases to
the New World. The New World had many great qualities such as farmland for crops and large
vastness of land for animals to roam freely and reproduce. During the Columbian Exchange people
around the world also got to experience different things to eat that they don t usually see every day.
The Columbian Exchange traded from Asia, in Africa, and Europe.

the European gave them that ability to hunt quicker and easier compared to chasing animals on foot
with a bow and arrow. It is also important to learn why the Native populations were wiped out so
quickly. Learning and experiencing what they had to deal with showed me how things have quickly
changed from the past to the present day. Animals, technology, food, and diseases all had one thing in
common, making the world more diverse and showing what great impact things that had happened in
the past to create what is today the future. The Columbian Exchange also explains where the
Europeans wealth came from and what kind of obstacles they had to go through; Christopher
Columbus once said, But in truth shall I meet with great qualities of gold or spices, I ll remain till I

Roaring Twenties Thesis
Expository Essay The Roaring Twenties and The Jazz Age are both labels for the time period of the
1920s. This time period involved drastic social along with political change that emphasized artistic
and cultural dynamism. Evidence of this is that jazz music and dancing developed, the flapper
redefined modern womanhood, Art Deco popularized, and many inventions of great significance came
about that continued to fuel this age. Also, the majority of U.S. people were now living in cities rather
than on farms for the first time, contributing to the doubling of the nation s wealth. This economic
prosperity transformed American society into one that was now primarily consumer based. Supply and

It stands out because it is a collection of years that brought much success to the nation while being
wedged between two disasters. World War One and The Stock Market Crash of 1929. The end of
World War One was the beginning because coming out of the war spiraled the nation into a period of
economic boom. The Stock Market Crash of 1929 put an end to the famous time period because it left
the nation in a state of devastation that lead to the Great Depression, one of the worst times in
American History. It has been said that The Jazz Age or The Roaring Twenties was the best time to
live, but surprisingly, at the time, numerous Americans were wearisome with this modern, state of the
art urban, sometimes animated mass culture. It was unfamiliar to the society they had known and were
accustomed to before the war. In fact, many even the majority of people in the United States claim that
the 1920s presented more conflict than celebration. However, for a small handful, primarily consisting
of young people in the nation s big cities, the 1920s were indeed roaring. In conclusion, The Jazz Age

1. The Americas began as the New World , where European settlers arrived to the foreign land
carrying their beliefs, religion and philosophy. They called it the new beginning, despite Natives
already occupying the land. People from Europe hoped to move into the colonies in the Americas for
religious freedom and to better their lives through promises of more land, property, and profitability.
However, the settlers ignorance of the land and its environment led them to be faced with many trials
and tribulations upon their arrival, weakening the idea of the promising New World . This did not

It wasn t the best settlement, but it was the first nonetheless. Jamestown s mortality rate was high very
because the colonists would often times catch diseases and hydrate themselves from unhealthy water
sources. It was a swampland after all. Starvation was a huge factor in their death toll as well. Colonists
would eat each other for survival as there were low food sources and they couldn t grow much due to
bad soil. By 1616, about eighty percent of the colonists that settled there had died.
However, in 1619, the first slaves from Africa sat foot in the Jamestown, Virginia. Since Jamestown
was in a decaying state, changes needed to occur. Tobacco was a major crop to grow but the colonists
of Jamestown did not have enough man power to harvest it all. In order to stabilize the economy, the
Virginians required heavy labor. Slaves from Africa were sold as indentured servants; person that
worked for several years but then was granted freedom after their servitude. Since the Virginians
relied on the growth of corn for grain and tobacco to feed and fund the growth of their population, the
Europeans relied on the slave tactics from Africa in order increase their efficiency in agriculture.
Although Europeans based their views on slavery from the Africans, the treatment of slaves in the
Americas were far worse than the treatment of slaves in Africa. Due to the fact that the Europeans

Stephen Crane Figurative Language Essay
When many people think of war they just think of a bunch of soldiers fighting on a battlefield. Many
people don t think about the families who have just lost loved ones in the war. Some people don t
realize the trauma that the soldiers have to go through because of everything they saw and endured in
the war. Stephen Crane uses figurative language in both his poem and short story to prove that war is
very violent and dangerous. Crane shows his readers different perspectives of the war in order to show
his readers what war is really like. Stephen Crane uses irony in War is Kind and A Mystery of Heroism
to reveal that he is against the war by using figurative language and by showing different perspectives
of the war.

Dracula, a novel which had originally been written by Bram Stoker in 1897, is commonly classified as
a horror novel by the majority of its readers. However, when putting the novel through further
analysis, the various symbols and themes of sexuality which the novel contains are brought to the
notice of its readers, despite them being easily overlooked by their readers the first time the novel

First of all, Mina and Lucy are both characters which play an extremely significant role in the novel,
as they are the sole female characters, as well as narrators, which are described in great detail by
Stoker. Stoker often describes Mina and Lucy as being complete opposites of each other throughout
his novel in order to illustrate, as well as act in contrast, to the two distinctly different categories of
women which he had believed to exist in the Victorian Era which was the society s ideal, innocent and
submissive women, which acted in contrast to the rebellious women who took several risks and
managed to break free from the confining norms and ideals of their prejudiced society which viewed
them as being a danger to the society at large. Furthermore, despite the fact that Mina and Lucy both
hold completely different views on which of the two categories which Stoker believed had existed
during the Victorian Era a woman should fall under, they both manage to acknowledge the widely
accepted belief that men are seen as being more dominant , as compared to women, in the eyes of their
Victorian society. For instance, when Lucy mentions to Mina in the novel, My dear Mina, why are
men so noble when we women are so little worthy of them? (Stoker, 86). In addition, Stoker utilizes
Mina in order to illustrate his vision of what an ideal and perfect Victorian woman is like. For

Open Source Software For Database Server
In this task, I will be looking at some open source software for a database server, Web server, file
server, SMTP server, and an LDAP server. I will go over a few in each category and then make my
recommendations based on the stability and security of the software as it relates to the need of the
First World Bank. First, I will be looking at some open source software for the database server. I am
going to be at the two that I consider be our organization s best options. Those two are MySQL and
PostgreSQL. MySQL is considered the most popular of all the open source database systems. It offers
a variety of database features and is considered fairly quick and pretty secure. It would be a good
choice for the company s database servers. However, unfortunately MySQL does not [try to]
implement the full SQL standard, this tool is not completely SQL compliant. If you might need
integration with such RDBMSs, switching from MySQL will not be easy (Tezer 2014). This makes it
not entirely ideal for current situation. When we take a look at PostgreSQL, we see that PostgreSQL is
the advanced, open source [object] relational database management system which has the main goal of
being standards compliant and extensible (Tezer 2014). For the type of work our company is looking
to achieve, it is very important that our database system be both highly secure and standards
compliant. The downside of PostgreSQL is it is considered slower than MySQL and it is not as
popular.

The legalization of marijuana and other controlled substances is a highly discussed and controversial
topic. Opponents have generally repeated arguments formed from long lasting government

preconceptions. There are many arguments for and against the legalization of marijuana, and in many
ways it is the same discussion that led to the end of prohibition. Generally, the opposing arguments are
geared toward moral standards and focus on correlation as causation; the arguments for legalization
are generally based on university studies and case studies from other countries and states that have

It should be noted that there is one prevalent Pixar film that draws upon the concept of personhood but
does not utilize a Human as Partner relationship; in fact, The Incredibles is the only Pixar film that
focuses entirely on a population of only human characters. However, the idea remains similar: instead
of non humans, the narrative focuses on super human characters with powers who regardless retain the
struggle of isolation and ostracization from the rest of society. Instead of illustrating the conflict for
non humans to be accepted as human, the film depicts how human enhancement and extraordinariness

The implementation of humane qualities in non human characters serve as a direct metaphor into real
life, proposing the argument that everyone who displays characteristics of a human, regardless of walk

illustrations of personhood where worded descriptions fail; implementing relatable characters in non

the studio has made a compelling argument that personhood can come from anywhere, and universal

Another reason why people might not take medication is because it takes away not only the highs and
lows but the essence of peoples personalities, it leaves them enigmatic and slow. The moods you are
so used to having on a daily basis fade away until you are left feeling dull (p.79) This is especially
hard for people with manic depressive illness because there moods are very much part of their lives.
Many of the world s most creative people suffer from mental illness and they find that it is very hard
to go from being brilliant to average. When I was depressed, nothing came to me, and nothing came

Eugenics Movement During The Early 1900 s
The eugenics movement was a very influential movement in America that was very prevalent during
the early 1900 s. The premise of the eugenics movement was that society could be scientifically
improved by classifying ranking members of society and trying to prevent those who were ranked low
from reproducing. The eugenics movement was born out of the desire for the upper and middle classes
of society to try and prove, scientifically, that they were superior to those who were in the lower
classes. The people who typically made up the lower classes were usually immigrants and those who
were of a different race. Eugenics was essentially the method that was used to try and exert control
over the lower classes while validating the idea that those in the upper and middle classes were
superior. The concept of trying to use ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, there were definitely a lot of moments where the eugenics movement seemed to be more
concerned with proving past prejudices rather than actually looking for ways to improve future
generations. All of the Craniometry tests and IQ tests seemed to be more concerned with proving what
America already believed: that it was the superior group of people. The idea that these classifications
of people could help produce a better society is the main part of the eugenics movement that seemed
to be the most forward looking. The Fitter Families contests Selden discusses are a good example of
the eugenics movement attempting to be more focused on the future (Selden 2005, 221). Even with
this focus on the future, it still seemed as though the eugenics movement was concerned with fixing
the mistakes of the past. While the eugenics movement may have been started under the premise of
improving the future, a lot of it seemed to be heavily influenced by the

The Pros And Cons Of Human Security
INTRODUCTION
Human security unlike security definition extends to include the many non military threats to harmony
and individual dignity. In simple terms it means freedom from fear and freedom from want. It s about
protecting citizens from persistent threats, building on their aspirations and strengths, and allowing
them the attainment of personal empowerment (UNESCO, 2007). Human security also comprises of
protection from natural tragedies along with environmental pollution, global violence, global
pandemics, forced manual labour, famine and genocide.
However the term human security can be defined in different ways but meaning one and the same for
example: Kofi Annan stated that in its broadest sense, human security embraces far more than the
absence of violent conflict. It encompasses human rights, good governance, access to education and
health care and ensuring that each individual has opportunities and choices to fulfill his or her
potential. Every step in this direction is also a step towards reducing poverty, achieving economic
growth and preventing conflict. Freedom from want, freedom from fear, and the freedom of future
generations to inherit a healthy natural environment these are the interrelated building blocks of
human and therefore national security (Kofi Annan, 2000). Similarly Ramesh ... Show more content

opponents of human security, the idea is just too broad to be logically used as a tool of policymaking.
According to one opponent of this issue, Roland Paris, existing definitions of human security tend to
be extraordinarily expansive and vague, encompassing everything from physical security to

Loyola Marymount University Personal Statement
Loyola Marymount University has been at the top of my list of colleges from the very beginning. I
first became aware of what LMU has to offer only one year ago. One summer, as i was visiting my
brother in Playa Del Rey, i was introduced to one of his friends. It so happened to be that this friend of
my brothers, Jared, was an LMU Alumni. As we had a conversation over what i was looking for in a
university, he raved of all the opportunities LMU has created. This man was so passionate about his
Alma Mater that i felt i had to explore the possibilities of attending this university. Sure enough, after
extensive thought and several personal visits to the campus, i believe i have found my dream school.
Not only does this university posses an amazing ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Not only do i believe this will further open my mind with new view points and cultures, but i also
believe i will be able to do my part in adding to the diversity, culture, and spirit at LMU. With that
being said, there is an even bigger factor that attracts me to LMU and this is my intended major. My
ambitions to be an entrepreneur have been fueled by great minds who pushed the boundaries and
created magnificent things, many who started right in the Los Angeles area. At every corner of
Southern California, everyday, there are bold entrepreneurs setting up new businesses and diversifying
their community in doing so. This exposure could only be beneficial, for LMU is right in the heart of a
community and city that are experiencing exponential growth and creating opportunities for people to
leave their mark every single day. I believe that LMU has the tools to educate and mold me into a
successful entrepreneur. There is no other entrepreneurship program quite like the one offered at
LMU. Your programs entrepreneurship Professor David Choi has everything to offer and then

Chiricahua Fort Sill Apaches.
.
Chiricahua Fort Sill Apaches The Chiricahua band of the larger Apache tribe was fractured through
attempted assimilation by the United States government. The attempted assimilation of a regionally
nomadic people whose entire society spiritually and culturally is based upon ties to nature leads to an
eventual violent reaction by a portion of the tribe, through propagation of fear and political pressure
the entire band is taken into custody with prisoner of war status. Eventually this status will define and
even give way to the only federally created tribe, a unique distinction created through a federal over
reach of power that can be considered genocidal in nature. This tribe is known as the Fort Sill
Apaches.
In order to understand the Chiricahua band of the Apaches the land from which they come must be
understood. There is not much in the way of ancient history concerning this people, what is known is
that the Apaches are made up of four separate bands of people of which one is Chiricahua and the
Chiricahua has six matrilineal bands of its own, according to Geronimo. Be don ko he(Geronimo s
band), the Chi hen ne(Ojo Caliente), Hot Springs, White Mountain, Cho kon en, and Ned ni Apaches
these bands ranged in present day Arizona, New Mexico, and the northern border region of Mexico .
These regions of the southwest are very arid dry and somewhat mountainous in certain areas. This

Employee Performance And Achievement Of Organisational Goals
1 Introduction: 1.1 Background: Employee behaviours could often have an impact on organisational
performance and achievement of organisational goals. In any organisation, its members could display
varied behaviour where minimalists would contribute just enough to maintain affiliation while others
may exhibit overt and discretionary behaviour which is beyond their stipulated job description and
likely to benefit the organisation (Turnipseed and Rassuli: 2005). This latter behaviour where the
employee goes the extra mile proactively engaging in such activities has been described by various
nomenclatures such as Organisational Citizenship Behaviour (OCB) by Organ (1988) as cited in
Organ (1997), pro social organisational behaviour (Brief and Motowidlo: 1986), contextual
performance (Borman and Motowidlo: 1993) and extra role behaviour (Van Dyne et al: 1995). OCB
has been one of the important and popular research subjects in the recent years. It emphasizes on the
most preferred employee level outcomes at workplace (Bateman and Organ 1983, Smith et al 1983,
Anderson and Williams: 1996). Although the concept of OCB was proposed by Bateman and Organ in
the early 1980s, the origins of this concept could be traced back to early 1960s when Katz recognized
three distinct behavioural entities for the proficient functioning of an organisation. This includes
induction and retention of the workforce in the organisation, employees performing specific
dependable job roles in addition to

Lady Or The Tiger Pdf
At the end of the story, The Lady or the Tiger, the man had a choice to pick which door. The main
question is which door did he pick? The one with the tiger that would lead to certain death or the door
that had the lady behind it in which he would have gotten married to. I believe the princess lead him to
opened the one with the tiger. Even though she would have had to watch her lover die a painful death I
don t think she could have bared to watch him be with another. One other reason it leads me to believe
she picked that one is because she was semi barbaric, like her father. It even said in the story that she
enjoyed watching them as much as he did. The princess knew the game and knew that if she picked
the one with the lady behind it they would be happily married. In the beginning of the story it states on
page 14, that she was just like her father. She believes the way her father rules fair and the way he
handles crimes that are committed. When the games go on she sits in the box with her father and
watches people get slaughtered or married. Therefore, I think since she can t have her lover that she
will send him to death. It says in the story, She was well satisfied with her lover, even though she
loved him so much she would have rather him go wait for her in the other life. All of ... Show more

Sociological Concepts In The Office
For my essay I will be doing different sociological concepts on The Office . The Office is a sitcom that
basically follows the lives of different people in and around the office. The different sociological
concepts I am going to be doing are: deviance, different sex and gender stereotypes, and religion. For
the first concept, deviance in Season 9 Episode 5 it is Halloween. In this Episode everyone is coming
in all dressed up for the Halloween party they are having at the office, one of the characters named
Creed comes in with a bloody looking shirt and one of the other characters said that Creed had an
awesome costume. Now, in the show each character gets a moment alone to say what they want to the

Senate Vs House Of Representatives
The largest compromise in the U.S. Constitution is known as the Great Compromise. This was a
compromise between two completely different plans on how the U.S. Legislature should be laid out.
The framers of the constitution decided on a two chambered Legislature. Each chamber has many
different requirements, structures, responsibilities, and powers. Because of these differences, the
Senate is known as the upper house, and the House of Representatives is known as the lower house.
The Legislature of the United States government is bicameral; this means that it is a governmental
body with two houses or chambers (Dictionary.com). These two chambers are known as the Senate
and the House of Representatives. The formation of these two chambers was ... Show more content on

These differences are why the Senate is known as the upper house, and the House of Representatives
is called the lower house. According to the Constitution, to be a member of the Senate a candidate
must be at least thirty years of age, be a citizen of the United States for nine years, and must live in the
state at the time elected. To be a member of the House of Representatives, a candidate must be at least
twenty five years of age, must be a citizen of the United States for seven years, and must live in the
state at the time elected. These different requirements support that the Senate is the upper house
because the requirements needed to be in the Senate are stricter than those of the House. The
structures also differ greatly. There are 435 members of the House and only 100 members of the
Senate. Because of this, each individual member s vote in the Senate is worth more than each member
of the House. Also a Senator s term lasts longer than a Representative s term; a Senator s term is six
years and a Representative s is two. Because of this, Senators have more time to make and change
legislation. Also if a House member makes changes that voters don t like, they can be replaced in
under two years. In the Senate, however, if negative changes are made, there isn t anything voters can
do for years and they can continue to make changes that are disagreeable to voters. The two chambers
also have different responsibilities and powers that show that the Senate is the upper house. The
House has the power to impeach government officials. They act as a prosecutor . The Senate holds the
trials of impeachment and acts as judge and jury (United States Senate). The Senate acts as the upper
house because the House only brings issues involving impeachment to the attention of the Senate. It is
the Senate who actually can impeach officials. The Senate also has

Northern Arizona University Case Study
Founded in 1899, Northern Arizona University s (NAU) first library opened with a dictionary and
encyclopedia in its collection. Located in the central part of the NAU Flagstaff campus, it provides
both physical and virtual environments that foster intellectual discovery, collaborative research, and
access to technology (Library overview, 2016). As with most academic libraries, the research
collections are critical to supporting the curricular and research mission of the university. As of April
2016, members of the NAU community and public have access to more than 670,000 print and e
books, 81,000 e journals, 161,000 online audio and video recordings (J. Swann, personal
communication, April 19, 2016). Successful learning requires inclusive and widespread support along
with relevant resources from the library. Thus, the library offers spaces including group and individual
study rooms; multi media production studios, classrooms, and a makerspace. The library s mission
statement confirms the organization is committed to:
(1) Providing a physical environment for intellectual discovery, collaborative research projects, and
computing, and an equally rich online learning environment that is fully accessible to students, faculty
and staff regardless of location;
(2) Aligning its efforts to institutional and college ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A final critical element in support of student and faculty learning focuses on library instruction and
research assistance. The realm of available information in all shapes and sizes is particularly
overwhelming for the average undergraduate student. Librarians and staff assist students with basic

the right ones. During the regular academic year, the library is open 116.5 hours each

Self-Harm, Self Injury, And Nonsuicidal Self Suicide
Self harm, self injury, and nonsuicidal self injury (NSSI) are all terms that describe the act of
intentional infliction of tissue damage or pain to oneself without the intent of dying by suicide (Briere
Gill, 1998; Andover et al., 2005; Nock Favazza, 2009; Klonsky, 2011; Young Stark, 2011; Makowska
et al., 2016). The cases of self injury has doubled over the past ten years in adolescents (Makowska et
al., 2016). Self injury is experienced by 4% of the general population, however, self harm was
reported by 21% of individuals in clinical settings, and those individuals reported the behavior is often
done compulsively or repetitively (Briere Gill, 1998).
Studies have found that individuals with severe mental illnesses are more likely to engage in
dangerous behavior including self injury and suicide attempts;, and people diagnosed with
schizophrenia and mood disorders have the highest rates of suicide among all mental illnesses
(Klonsky, 2011; Victor Klonsky, 2014; O Hare et al., 2015). The DSM 5 classifies Nonsuicidal Self
Injury as a separate diagnostic criteria (American Psychiatric Association, 2013; Klonsky, 2011),
suggesting that self injury itself is considered a mental illness.
Although most individuals who self injure do not have the intent to die by suicide, some experience
suicide ideation; and instances of self harm in individuals contemplating suicide could be a trial of self
destructive behavior, which could lead to attempting suicide (Briere Gill,

When The Power Goes Out
When the Power Goes Out
Now I am seeing for the first time wonder in a true light. It started with my family. Beginning with my
sisters... The one eldest of the two by three minutes was the curious one, that is of books. She loved to
spend her days hidden beneath the covers in bright daylight until mother dragged her out from
underneath the sheets. As for her looks she was fair with light golden hair. Her nose upturned with
freckles. My parents would call her Rebeka for she was gifted with many talents. The other was
considered very beautiful. A vary of light freckles and a clear complexion made her very attractive.
Waves of long golden hair reached to the bottom of her back. She was named Noelle. I thought they

I was around seven when my father took me to his work office and I met his boss, Mr. Reed. I prefer
to call him Mr. Boss though. It fit him not only because he was the boss, but because he always had a
scowl on his face. My father had been trying to get on the friendly side of his boss for years, but I
guess he was naturally grumpy because few things could turn his frown upside down. His wife died
two years from a car accident and his only joy in life was his daughter, Lauren. She did not mope as
Mr. Reed did because she had knew she still had a kind of connection with her mother. I had met her
before briefly and she seemed very sweet, but it wasn t really my business knowing about her life my
parents had said, so I left it alone.
Life is passion, life is family, life is food. My mother said that when we all stood above the mounding
smells from the fresh foods. The twins came in with no call but by the pure lure of the aroma. Mr.
Boss and Lauren were welcomed just in time for the first course. Mother lifted the lid to several pots
and pans and everyone stood in awe. Starting on the left was a cranberry spinach chia salad glazed
with a spicy oil dressing. Next a Georgia style jambalaya with dirty rice and dressed pork. Homemade
mashed potatoes, buttered corn on the cob, and chicken legs made the perfect American homestyle
cooked meal.
The second course was over for those who could

Facilitating Better Scheduling of Smart Grid
I. INTRODUCTION A key objective of smart grid efforts is to substantially increase the penetration
of renewable energy sources, such as solar and wind. As per the Solar Mission under the National
Action Plan on Climate Change, the central government of India plans to generate up to 20 GW grid
based solar power, and cover 20 million square metres with solar energy collectors by 2020[1].
However land acquisition is a challenge to solar farm projects in India, hence there is a need to utilize
residential roof tops for harvesting of solar energy. Substantial grid integration of renewables is
challenging, since their power generation is intermittent and uncontrollable. The modern electric grid
permits households to consume electricity in essentially arbitrary quantities at any time, and is not
currently designed for vast quantities of uncontrollable generation. Instead, the grid constantly
monitors the demand for electricity, and dispatches generators to satisfy demand as it rises and falls.
Fortunately, electricity demand is highly predictable when aggregating over thousands of buildings
and homes. As a result, today s grid is able to accurately plan in advance which generators to dispatch,
and when, to satisfy demand.
The challenge with substantial integration of renewable energy is that the electricity generated by
renewables is not easily predictable in advance and varies based on both weather conditions and site
specific conditions. For large scale solar farms producing

Taking Back The Vote
For a nation to truly develop everybody should participate in voting. If everyone will vote then the
elected representative will be someone who will represent the believes and values of everyone or at
least the majority. In that way, when the representative will do something for the nation, everyone will
be able to be benefited from it. However, it is a harsh reality of our society that young people vote at
lower rates than other age groups. There are a lot of reasons for that, for example, I think most young
people are not interested enough in what the politicians are claiming to in their campaign. Most
politician talks about health care, better economy, and external relations. These topics do not seem
interesting to young people because in most cases they have not been in a situations where they
needed any of those, for example, in most cases senior people need health care, middle age group need
to worry about the economy because they need to feed their kids, and authorities need to worry about
external affairs. Hence, young people end up not voting because their issues are not being discussed in
the election campaign. According to Jane Eisner s book Taking Back the Vote, it is two processes. In
one side, young people do not vote because their issues are not discussed in the election campaigns,
and on another side, the politicians ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

things done in the time of elections, hence they end up not exercising their democratic

  • 3. Doppler Effect Doppler effect The Doppler effect, named after Christian Doppler, is the change in frequency and wavelength of a wave as perceived by an observer moving relative to the source of the waves. For waves that propagate in a wave medium, such as sound waves, the velocity of the observer and of the source are relative to the medium in which the waves are transmitted. The total Doppler effect may therefore result from motion of the source, motion of the observer, or motion of the medium. Each of these effects is analysed separately. For waves which do not require a medium, such as light or gravity in special relativity, only the relative difference in velocity between the observer and the source needs to be considered. [pic] [pic] A source of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As mentioned previously, these two equations are only accurate to a first order approximation. However, they work reasonably well in the case considered by Doppler, i.e. when the speed between the source and receiver is slow relative to the speed of the waves involved and the distance between the source and receiver is large relative to the wavelength of the waves. If either of these two approximations are violated, the formulae are no longer accurate. Analysis It is important to realize that the frequency of the sounds that the source emits does not actually change. To understand what happens, consider the following analogy. Someone throws one ball every second in a man s direction. Assume that balls travel with constant velocity. If the thrower is stationary, the man will receive one ball every second. However, if the thrower is moving towards the man, he will receive balls more frequently because the balls will be less spaced out. The converse is true if the thrower is moving away from the man. So it is actually the wavelength which is affected; as a consequence, the perceived frequency is also affected. It may also be said that the velocity of the wave remains constant whereas wavelength changes; hence frequency also changes. If the moving source is emitting waves through a medium with an actual frequency f0, then an observer stationary relative to the medium detects waves with a frequency f given by [pic]which can be written ... This analytical research paper will be discussing some ethical issues as illustrated in Stephen Feldman s video, Legal and Ethical Issues for Mental Health Professionals , which this include; the duty to report; the duty to warn; Confidentiality; and Privilege. And also this paper will look into how these ethical issues are implemented by the State of Maryland and the ACA code of ethics. Furthermore, in the paper, there will be a discussion on my view point as to the varying discussions I saw on the video, coupled with what I read from the State of Maryland and ACA code of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In addition to duty to reporting, I was quiet surprised at how mandated Laws requiring reporting and the limitations to Confidentiality differ in various states, because coupled to what Joseph and Nellie were discussing in Feldman s video , New York lawyer are not obligated to carry out reporting (Stein, 2004). In some cases, Professional Counselors/therapists are covered under attorney Client privilege, if the Counselor/therapist is employed under the attorney, thus making reporting of an abuse void. (Stein, p. 11). Furthermore on the issue of Confidentiality, I found the video s information and the information I gathered from the State of Maryland, Board of Professional Counselors/therapists and the ACA code of ethics websites, contradictory. According to the discussion, on the Video, a third party can be granted access into a victim s records, but according to both Maryland and ACA code of ethics websites, Clients recorded are not supposed to be made known to a third party, unless the Client issues an informed consent. So I just think revealing a Client s information is in violation of the code of conduct and HIPPA act, just like Nurse Brown and the incompetent social worker, they were in violation of the Statue and I could say, COMAR 10.58.04; Professional Competence. Finally, on the ethical issue on the duty to warn, in the case of Tatiana ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

During the Columbian Exchange, Europeans brought food, animals, technology, and diseases to the New World. The New World had many great qualities such as farmland for crops and large vastness of land for animals to roam freely and reproduce. During the Columbian Exchange people around the world also got to experience different things to eat that they don t usually see every day. It is also important to learn why the Native populations were wiped out so quickly. Learning and experiencing what they had to deal with showed me how things have quickly changed from the past to the present day. Animals, technology, food, and diseases all had one thing in common, making the world more diverse and showing what great impact things that had happened in the past to create what is today the future. The Columbian Exchange also explains where the Europeans wealth came from and what kind of obstacles they had to go through; Christopher Columbus once said, But in truth shall I meet with great qualities of gold or spices, I ll remain till I collect as much as possible, and for this purpose I am proceeding SOLELY in the quest of them . • 7. Roaring Twenties Thesis Expository Essay The Roaring Twenties and The Jazz Age are both labels for the time period of the 1920s. This time period involved drastic social along with political change that emphasized artistic and cultural dynamism. Evidence of this is that jazz music and dancing developed, the flapper redefined modern womanhood, Art Deco popularized, and many inventions of great significance came about that continued to fuel this age. Also, the majority of U.S. people were now living in cities rather than on farms for the first time, contributing to the doubling of the nation s wealth. World War One and The Stock Market Crash of 1929. The end of World War One was the beginning because coming out of the war spiraled the nation into a period of economic boom. The Stock Market Crash of 1929 put an end to the famous time period because it left the nation in a state of devastation that lead to the Great Depression, one of the worst times in American History. It has been said that The Jazz Age or The Roaring Twenties was the best time to live, but surprisingly, at the time, numerous Americans were wearisome with this modern, state of the art urban, sometimes animated mass culture. It was unfamiliar to the society they had known and were accustomed to before the war. In fact, many even the majority of people in the United States claim that the 1920s presented more conflict than celebration. However, for a small handful, primarily consisting of young people in the nation s big cities, the 1920s were indeed roaring. In conclusion, The Jazz Age or The Roaring Twenties definitely made their mark on history and we as Americans will remember these time periods as they continue to impact and influence our ... The Americas began as the New World , where European settlers arrived to the foreign land carrying their beliefs, religion and philosophy. They called it the new beginning, despite Natives already occupying the land. People from Europe hoped to move into the colonies in the Americas for religious freedom and to better their lives through promises of more land, property, and profitability. However, the settlers ignorance of the land and its environment led them to be faced with many trials and tribulations upon their arrival, weakening the idea of the promising New World . It wasn t the best settlement, but it was the first nonetheless. Jamestown s mortality rate was high very because the colonists would often times catch diseases and hydrate themselves from unhealthy water sources. It was a swampland after all. Starvation was a huge factor in their death toll as well. Colonists would eat each other for survival as there were low food sources and they couldn t grow much due to bad soil. By 1616, about eighty percent of the colonists that settled there had died. However, in 1619, the first slaves from Africa sat foot in the Jamestown, Virginia. Since Jamestown was in a decaying state, changes needed to occur. Tobacco was a major crop to grow but the colonists of Jamestown did not have enough man power to harvest it all. In order to stabilize the economy, the Virginians required heavy labor. Slaves from Africa were sold as indentured servants; person that worked for several years but then was granted freedom after their servitude. Since the Virginians relied on the growth of corn for grain and tobacco to feed and fund the growth of their population, the Europeans relied on the slave tactics from Africa in order increase their efficiency in agriculture. • 9. Stephen Crane Figurative Language Essay When many people think of war they just think of a bunch of soldiers fighting on a battlefield. Many people don t think about the families who have just lost loved ones in the war. Some people don t realize the trauma that the soldiers have to go through because of everything they saw and endured in the war. Stephen Crane uses figurative language in both his poem and short story to prove that war is very violent and dangerous. Crane shows his readers different perspectives of the war in order to show his readers what war is really like. Stephen Crane uses irony in War is Kind and A Mystery of Heroism to reveal that he is against the war by using figurative language and by showing different perspectives of the war. When Crane talks about the south he says Swift, blazing flag of the regiment... because the south is losing the war. This shows us two different perspectives of the war the winning side and the losing side. Another perspective Crane shows us is in A Mystery of Heroism when Collins puts himself in a dangerous situation to prove a point and doesn t realize how dangerous it really is. However, when putting the novel through further analysis, the various symbols and themes of sexuality which the novel contains are brought to the notice of its readers, despite them being easily overlooked by their readers the first time the novel might be read. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... First of all, Mina and Lucy are both characters which play an extremely significant role in the novel, as they are the sole female characters, as well as narrators, which are described in great detail by Stoker. Stoker often describes Mina and Lucy as being complete opposites of each other throughout his novel in order to illustrate, as well as act in contrast, to the two distinctly different categories of women which he had believed to exist in the Victorian Era which was the society s ideal, innocent and submissive women, which acted in contrast to the rebellious women who took several risks and managed to break free from the confining norms and ideals of their prejudiced society which viewed them as being a danger to the society at large. Furthermore, despite the fact that Mina and Lucy both hold completely different views on which of the two categories which Stoker believed had existed during the Victorian Era a woman should fall under, they both manage to acknowledge the widely accepted belief that men are seen as being more dominant , as compared to women, in the eyes of their Victorian society. For instance, when Lucy mentions to Mina in the novel, My dear Mina, why are men so noble when we women are so little worthy of them? (Stoker, 86). I will go over a few in each category and then make my recommendations based on the stability and security of the software as it relates to the need of the First World Bank. First, I will be looking at some open source software for the database server. I am going to be at the two that I consider be our organization s best options. Those two are MySQL and PostgreSQL. MySQL is considered the most popular of all the open source database systems. It offers a variety of database features and is considered fairly quick and pretty secure. It would be a good choice for the company s database servers. However, unfortunately MySQL does not [try to] implement the full SQL standard, this tool is not completely SQL compliant. If you might need integration with such RDBMSs, switching from MySQL will not be easy (Tezer 2014). This makes it not entirely ideal for current situation. When we take a look at PostgreSQL, we see that PostgreSQL is the advanced, open source [object] relational database management system which has the main goal of being standards compliant and extensible (Tezer 2014). For the type of work our company is looking to achieve, it is very important that our database system be both highly secure and standards compliant. The downside of PostgreSQL is it is considered slower than MySQL and it is not as popular. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Personhood In The Incredibles It should be noted that there is one prevalent Pixar film that draws upon the concept of personhood but does not utilize a Human as Partner relationship; in fact, The Incredibles is the only Pixar film that focuses entirely on a population of only human characters. However, the idea remains similar: instead of non humans, the narrative focuses on super human characters with powers who regardless retain the struggle of isolation and ostracization from the rest of society. The premise of the eugenics movement was that society could be scientifically improved by classifying ranking members of society and trying to prevent those who were ranked low from reproducing. The eugenics movement was born out of the desire for the upper and middle classes of society to try and prove, scientifically, that they were superior to those who were in the lower classes. The people who typically made up the lower classes were usually immigrants and those who were of a different race. Employee Performance And Achievement Of Organisational Goals 1 Introduction: 1.1 Background: Employee behaviours could often have an impact on organisational performance and achievement of organisational goals. In any organisation, its members could display varied behaviour where minimalists would contribute just enough to maintain affiliation while others may exhibit overt and discretionary behaviour which is beyond their stipulated job description and likely to benefit the organisation (Turnipseed and Rassuli: 2005). This latter behaviour where the employee goes the extra mile proactively engaging in such activities has been described by various nomenclatures such as Organisational Citizenship Behaviour (OCB) by Organ (1988) as cited in Organ (1997), pro social organisational behaviour (Brief and Motowidlo: 1986), contextual performance (Borman and Motowidlo: 1993) and extra role behaviour (Van Dyne et al: 1995). OCB has been one of the important and popular research subjects in the recent years. It emphasizes on the most preferred employee level outcomes at workplace (Bateman and Organ 1983, Smith et al 1983, Anderson and Williams: 1996). Although the concept of OCB was proposed by Bateman and Organ in the early 1980s, the origins of this concept could be traced back to early 1960s when Katz recognized three distinct behavioural entities for the proficient functioning of an organisation. According to the Constitution, to be a member of the Senate a candidate must be at least thirty years of age, be a citizen of the United States for nine years, and must live in the state at the time elected. To be a member of the House of Representatives, a candidate must be at least twenty five years of age, must be a citizen of the United States for seven years, and must live in the state at the time elected. These different requirements support that the Senate is the upper house because the requirements needed to be in the Senate are stricter than those of the House. The structures also differ greatly. There are 435 members of the House and only 100 members of the Senate. Because of this, each individual member s vote in the Senate is worth more than each member of the House. Also a Senator s term lasts longer than a Representative s term; a Senator s term is six years and a Representative s is two. Because of this, Senators have more time to make and change legislation. Also if a House member makes changes that voters don t like, they can be replaced in under two years. In the Senate, however, if negative changes are made, there isn t anything voters can do for years and they can continue to make changes that are disagreeable to voters. The two chambers also have different responsibilities and powers that show that the Senate is the upper house. The House has the power to impeach government officials. They act as a prosecutor . Self-Harm, Self Injury, And Nonsuicidal Self Suicide Self harm, self injury, and nonsuicidal self injury (NSSI) are all terms that describe the act of intentional infliction of tissue damage or pain to oneself without the intent of dying by suicide (Briere Gill, 1998; Andover et al., 2005; Nock Favazza, 2009; Klonsky, 2011; Young Stark, 2011; Makowska et al., 2016). The cases of self injury has doubled over the past ten years in adolescents (Makowska et al., 2016). Self injury is experienced by 4% of the general population, however, self harm was reported by 21% of individuals in clinical settings, and those individuals reported the behavior is often done compulsively or repetitively (Briere Gill, 1998). Studies have found that individuals with severe mental illnesses are more likely to engage in dangerous behavior including self injury and suicide attempts;, and people diagnosed with schizophrenia and mood disorders have the highest rates of suicide among all mental illnesses (Klonsky, 2011; Victor Klonsky, 2014; O Hare et al., 2015). The DSM 5 classifies Nonsuicidal Self Injury as a separate diagnostic criteria (American Psychiatric Association, 2013; Klonsky, 2011), suggesting that self injury itself is considered a mental illness. However land acquisition is a challenge to solar farm projects in India, hence there is a need to utilize residential roof tops for harvesting of solar energy. Substantial grid integration of renewables is challenging, since their power generation is intermittent and uncontrollable. The modern electric grid permits households to consume electricity in essentially arbitrary quantities at any time, and is not currently designed for vast quantities of uncontrollable generation. Instead, the grid constantly monitors the demand for electricity, and dispatches generators to satisfy demand as it rises and falls. Fortunately, electricity demand is highly predictable when aggregating over thousands of buildings and homes. As a result, today s grid is able to accurately plan in advance which generators to dispatch, and when, to satisfy demand. The challenge with substantial integration of renewable energy is that the electricity generated by renewables is not easily predictable in advance and varies based on both weather conditions and site specific conditions. Most politician talks about health care, better economy, and external relations. These topics do not seem interesting to young people because in most cases they have not been in a situations where they needed any of those, for example, in most cases senior people need health care, middle age group need to worry about the economy because they need to feed their kids, and authorities need to worry about external affairs. Hence, young people end up not voting because their issues are not being discussed in the election campaign. According to Jane Eisner s book Taking Back the Vote, it is two processes.
