The Pros And Cons Of Insolvency
Insolvency is the time when an individual, corporation, or other organization cannot meet its financial
obligations for paying debts as they are expected. Insolvency can occur when certain things happen,
some of which may include: poor cash management, increase in costs, or decrease in cash flow.
A finding of insolvency is imperative, as particular rights are empowered for the creditor to exercise
against the insolvent individual or organization. For example, exceptional debts may be paid off by
dissolving assets of the insolvent party. Prior to proceedings, it is common for the insolvent entity to
meet with the creditor in order to attempt to arrange a substitutable payment method.

Pride Blinds Mr Darcy
Pride blinds the main characters in Austen s Pride and Prejudice and in Dostoevsky s Crime and
Punishment, rendering them unable to see the reality of the situations in which they find themselves
and determining whether or not they ultimately find happiness. Pride blinds Mr. Darcy in that he
allowed himself to miss the opportunity to be with someone because she wasn t handsome enough.
Mr. Darcy saw Elizabeth and knew she was a nice girl but didn t want to dance with her simply
because she wasn t handsome enough as he put it. Mr. Darcy wanted someone who was wealthy, and
he could tell that Elizabeth wasn t wealthy. Mr. Darcy looked down on the Bennet s before he even got
a chance to get to know them.

Zajonc (1970) described the mere exposure effect as Mere exposure breeds liking . When Andy first
arrives at Shawshank Prison, Red bets that he will be the first one to collapse that night. Apparently,
Red knows very little about Andy at the beginning of the movie. However, as time goes by, Red
begins to be close with Andy. In jail, people are filled with negative emotions and tons of difficulties.
Under this cruel circumstances (What circumstances?), Andy and Red are always together and share

Shawshank Prison, most of the prisoners suffer from institutional syndrome which refers to deficits or
disabilities in social and life skills, which develop after a person has spent a long period living in
mental hospitals, prisons, or other remote institutions. (Williams, 1994) This disorder is common to be
found with people who live in institutions over a long period of time. Therefore, the sufferers are
unable to handle themselves in the world outside the institutions. They would often feel depressed.

Police Law Enforcement Protection And Citizen s Civil...
In 1991, nearly 10% of all United States murders occurred in New York City (La Vorgna, 2012). The
United States civil liberties grant citizen s rights and freedoms as determined by the Constitution and
Bill of Rights. Every citizen has the right to walk their streets without being racially targeted by
police. They also have the right to roam these streets without being mugged or killed. Both are civil
liberties. Amidst times of racial and ethnic animosity, this country faces a problem between law
enforcement protection and citizen s civil liberties. Stop and frisk is a policing tactic where officers
stop, question, and frisk a civilian based on reasonable suspicion of criminal activity. Many argue the
New York Police Department s (NYPD) use of stop and frisk is an obvious violation of the
Constitution and is based on racial discrimination. The Supreme Court of the United States (SCOTUS)
has heard many controversial cases dealing with this exact problem. Cases such as Terry v. Ohio and
Federal Judge Shira Scheindlin s partial ruling of Floyd v. City of New York have greatly impacted
both law enforcement tactics and the meanings of certain civil liberties. An analysis of the United
States judicial history and the biased decisions of Judge Scheindlin shows the NYPD s use of stop and
frisk tactic is not only constitutionally reasonable, but a non discriminatory way of reducing crime.
During 1968, Terry v. Ohio established the legal precedence for stop and frisk. The fourth

Dieselgate Scandal Case Analysis

Introduction
Volkswagen(VW), a classic and adored automaker who ruled the automotive manufacturing business
for many decades suddenly found itself in the middle of the tragic business crisis with the news that
they deliberately cheated on and falsified emission tests on many of their vehicles over the past
several years. On September 15, 2015 VW was charged with allegations of manipulating US emission
tests by installing cheating software by the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). In its
response, VW admitted the charges which led the company to undergo a shakeup among its
executives, a drop in stock and resale values, government investigations, and a serious blow to their ...

In the U.S., new car sales fell nearly 8%, to 322,900 vehicles in 2016. Overall sales decline in North
America to 1.9%. Western European sales were stunted by a 7.2% decline to 557,800 cars in its home
market Germany.
Plunge in Volkswagen Share: Volkswagen s share of European market tumbled to its lowest level
highlighting the consumer s backlash after the emission scandal. The announcement of the Defeat
Device scandal shaved $20 billion off of the company s market cap and the stock dropped nearly 30%
virtually overnight.
Root Causes
Autocratic leadership style: Piëch and his successor Winterkorn both had an aggressive, demanding
leadership style. For VW group this had become a legacy where the leaders cannot accept failures.
The culture of the Volkswagen is compliance based where employees are obliged to comply with the
rules. In accordance with this culture, the demand and expectations of the company should be fulfilled
regardless of how employees are able to perform the tasks. Due to this culture employees never
discussed the roadblocks or look for the guidance from their superiors and just to complete the work
they went against the ethics.
Pressure to achieve the impossible targets: Winterkorn had set many high targets for the company. One
of which was Mach 18 which aimed to make VW the highest selling automaker in the world by 2018.
Also, he had promised in 2012 that CO2

Wasps And Partridges
This fable tells a story about a wasps and a partridges who overcome with thirst, came to a farmer and
besought him to give them some water to drink. They promised amply to repay him the favor which
they asked. Their words sound so attractive. In fact ,they merely said about it, and didn t do anything
practical. On the contrary, the two oxen without making any promises but they did all the things. As a
result, the farmer would rather give the water to the oxen than give the wasps and the partridges who
were only to make empty promises. In our daily life, people, whose action is the same as the wasps
and the partridges, can be seen everywhere. For example, among students, this action is prominent.

Barbarian Invasions
Evidently, Barbarian invasions were the most significant factor in the downfall of the Western Roman
Empire predominantly because they weakened the empire and thus made it vulnerable to other
problems such as a poor economic situation and political weaknesses within the empire. Barbarian
invasions occurred frequently throughout the timeline yet one of the most significant invasions was
the sack of Rome in 410 AD by Alaric and the Visigoths because this was the first time Rome was
defeated in 800 years therefore signalling the beginning of the end of the Western Roman Empire. The
Visigoths has crossed the Rhine river and were looking for land to settle and to be accepted within the
empire and so Alaric decided to besiege Rome until the senate paid him to leave. This resulted in
Rome being sieged a total of 3 times before the gates to Rome were opened from within and Rome
was finally sacked. This was a massive shock to the empire as it accentuated its weaknesses and the
Visigoths looted places of aristocracy and killed Romans who resisted and women were raped. This
also drastically worsened the economic situation as during the months in which Rome was under
siege, people began to die of hunger with some even resorting to cannibalism. This event is mimicked
45 years later in 455 AD by the Vandals, led by Genseric. The Vandals had already been causing
trouble for the Roman Empire after they sacked North Africa and captured Carthage in 439 AD which
cut off the grain supply and

The Year Round Schooling System Essay
The traditional school calendar used by most schools in the United States stems from the original
agrarian calendar as students were often called to tend to crops in the summer. This was thoughtfully
and effectively designed for the time period it was created in; however, schools, research, and society
have dramatically changed since then. The agrarian calendar no longer makes sense, as we consider
overcrowding in schools and the significant research regarding the summer brain drain. There are
several models of year round schooling that would better serve all stakeholders in most communities
across the nation.
Position and Rationale American students do not need more time in school, but do need access to
more rigorous, engaging instruction, as well as a calendar that removes the excessive break schedule
(summers) and promotes healthy, regular breaks throughout the year, such as the single track year
round schooling system. Year round education includes the possibility of three different formats:
single track, multi track, and the extended school year. Rodgers (1993) reports that the United States
has the shortest school year of (180 days) of any industrialized nation. She encourages school districts
to analyze other models of year round education as a method of boosting student achievement.
Rodgers, like Dessoff, shares the benefits and the disadvantages of each format. According to Dessoff
(2011), single track is the most popular year round format, as it has

Hansberry Tales. In A Time Of Immense Racial Strife, Lorraine
Hansberry Tales
In a time of immense racial strife, Lorraine Hansberry a well respected African American author, civil
rights and sexual equality advocate wrote some of the most influential works of her time. Tenacious
and resilient, Hansberry explicitly shared her views on sexual identity, race relationships and identity.
Being a successful, black, woman playwright during the 1900 s meant that she had encountered not
only racism in her time, but also had to go through deciding just what being black meant during the
Civil Rights Movement. A Raisin in the Sun follows a black family in Chicago, which what Hansberry

In her work, Hansberry frequently addresses the strained, sensitive topic of race relations. She
comments on the extensive, prolonged and painful tension between black and white people that still
exists today. In her play Les Blancs, a scholarly African man Tshembe, returns from Europe to Africa
to attend his father s memorial service. His home is imbued with the intense hatred that is a result of
the ongoing struggle between European colonies and those native to Africa, strongest around a small,
make shift hospital made by missionaries. There is underlying tension between him and the white
colonists at first. There are a few snide remarks that him and the colonist casually woven into every
conversation they have. Very quickly, their implicit hatred warps into a full blown feud. Most of the
colonists believe that Africa is their rightful home since the Africans had it for so long and did nothing
with it (90). The colonist had a specific standard of civilization which Africa did not meet. Therefore,
when the colonist got there and started to form Africa into something that loosely resembled their
homeland, they felt that they were entitled to Africa. Additionally, they believe that there is sacredness
of a white life (105) and that white people must be protected and valued at all cost because one white

Essay On Acropolis
The acropolis is one of Greece s most monumental pieces that is still standing today, Built as a place
of worship. The temples within its walls were used to worship Greek gods like Athena and Poseidon.
Rising over three hundred feet above the city of Athens, it can clearly be noticed why it is called The
Acropolis , which means top of the city . It isn t the only acropolis in Greece, but it was noticeable
more than the others because of its almost flawless planning in where each building is placed.
The winding rocky path that led up to the Acropolis was surrounded by numerous small shrines,
including one to the god Pan, who had appeared to the runner Phidippides before the battle of
Marathon. At its top was the Propylaia, an entryway and façade that formed the gateway to the
Acropolis. Once inside the Sacred Precinct you d notice the most fabulous building in there, The
Parthenon . The Parthenon was started in 447 BC, but they couldn t finish it so they completed it some
fifteen years later. It housed both a treasury and a sanctuary to Athena, in which was placed a fantastic

years of experimenting to get it right. Each building is placed specifically to be pleasing to the viewer
s eye. As for the viewer s point of view every building is seen in perspective, and at any point from the
entrance there is only one face from each building that is seen. This is what made the Acropolis at
Athens have a great architectural and historic significance. What makes the Acropolis amazing is the

The Z3 Research Paper
The creation of the modern computer was not a clear, patented event, but an evolutionary process
occurring over many decades. There was a tremendous amount of work aimed towards the
development of computing from the time of Charles Babbage to Jack Kilby. Records of the most
significant contributors vary from nation to nation. Since more people have begun to see the huge
influence of computers on everyday lives, the records of the computer s pioneers have been
juxtaposed to honor those most influential. Today, many people think of the first computer to be the
ENIAC (1946), the ABC (1942), or Colossus (1943) when actually the Z3 was completed about one to
five years before all of these. Konrad Zuse invented the Z3, the first programmable, digital computer,
in 1941. The background of Konrad Zuse begins in Germany, he created his machines unaware of the
other developments of computers going on in the world, and his machines, software, and novel ideas
would give a portending insight into the future of computers.
Konrad Zuse was born in Berlin, Germany on June 22, 1910. His father was a civil servant; his mother
was his father s niece. He was brought up in Prussia, where his father was from, and attended school
there. He attended a school called Evan gelische Hoheve Madchen Schule and then Gymnasium
Hosianum, and for his entire school career he was always about two years younger than the rest of his
classmates which he said made him feel physically inferior , but this did not

Deontological And Teleological Ethics
Introduction This essay will include the background and development of deontological and
teleological ethics. Also, it will compare and contrast the absolute and relative ethics. Finally, it will
contain the ethical issues which can affect the operational activities of the business. In order to support
the points, it will also include the real life examples. AC 1.1 Background and development of ethical
approaches Teleological ethic this describes an ethical theory which judges the rightness of an action
in terms of an external goal or purpose. So, according to a teleological theory, consequences always
play some part, be it small or large, in the determination of what one should or should not do. Not all
teleological theories are consequentialist. John Rawls theory of justice is teleological, but not
consequentialist because it claims that consequences are only part of what must be considered when
determining what policy is morally just. For example, animal testing is the moral choice to put animal
through pain or not. The reason behind defining animal testing in a make up factory it is for a greater
good as if the animal gets hurt now, people are saved later as people will be able to use the products
that are developed and safe to use later. This is teleological because the moral choice was decided
upon the probability of a good outcome: the animal is tested upon, people would be able to get a safe
makeup products. A consequentialist action is one where the being

biochemical processes that are essential to sustain the life of an organism. Cells are compartmentalised
in order to increase the efficiency of the biochemical processes as well as protect the genetic
information. Such compartments are called organelles which are each bound by their own membrane
and each serve a specialised function. Humans are made up of trillions of

Introduction:
With the arising of the capital market in the United Kingdom in the 18th century, the stock market

are usually two kinds of invest in the stock market: long run invest and short run invest. In order to
conduct a long time invest more rationally, information about the company such as its operating
situation, financial situation are required to judge if it is worthwhile to invest. As for short time
investment, stock prices are more dynamic and susceptible to quick change. There exist more
unpredicted factors such as other investors behavior on this stock, the influence of social media, the
social influence and etc. Markov Chain is a stochastic model describing a sequence of possible events
in which the probability of each event depends only on the state attained in the previous event
(Markov Chain, n.d.). The Fluctuation of Stock Price can be regarded as Markov Process (Vasanthi,
2011), there are a lot of researches in this field and the prediction model had already well established.

Analysis Of George Green s Spell Of The Magic Play
Spell of the Magic Play by George Green Just like a vivid dream with the most energetic scenes, Spell
of the Magic Play will take you on an adventure. This piece not only makes the viewer question what
reality is, but it also pulls you into another dimension. It is booming with colorful energy at all angles,
and will make any adult feel like a child again. Strategically placed acrylic paint is smoothly brushed
on birch wood, creating multiple square and rectangular shapes. These shapes of colors are so precise
in angle, that it s almost as if they were part of the wood itself. Tiny squares of color are scattered
along it adding to the visual energy. As the eye travels to the bottom right side of the painting, a thick

Play has the ability to change one s view on reality with the use of trompe l oeil illusion, and it

Television and Crude Language
Why is crude language used in television? Some people think that the crude language used in
television serves no purpose and shows that a program was made by a bunch of idiots, intellectually,
who cannot think of anything intelligent to say. On the other side of the spectrum, people could argue
that vulgar language in movies or television serves as a way to make fun or to interpret stupidity in our
society. In the comedic movie South Park: Bigger, Longer, and Uncut, the main characters, Stan, Kyle,
Cartman, and Kenny sneak into an R rated animated musical called Terrance and Phillip Asses of Fire
, which uses a high volume of crude language. This movie was so terrible that everybody in the movie
theatre left, while the only people that stayed through the whole film were Stan, Kyle, Cartman, and
Kenny. After the movie, the boys were using all the crude language that they had learned from the
movie Terrance and Phillip. The creators of South Park, Trey Parker and Matt Stone, use crude
language throughout their episodes to represent the social issues in America. The creators use the
crude language to cause attention, to practice their freedom of speech in America, and to rebel against
censorship in television which contributes to the success of this program. South Park discusses issues
prevalent in today s society and encourages people to practice their freedom of speech, which is why
this program should be watched by more people. South Park is a very successful television

An Approach Into Los Angeles International Airport
On February 1st, 1991 USAir Flight 1493 (USA 1493), a Boeing 737 300 (B 737), was on an
approach into Los Angeles International Airport (LAX), as part of a scheduled stop prior to
completing its journey to San Francisco. USA 1493 was piloted by Captain Colin Shaw who had over
16,000 flight hours and First Officer David Kelly with over 4,000 total flight hours. Meanwhile on the
ground at LAX, SkyWest Airlines Flight 5569 (Skywest 5569), a Fairchild Metroliner, had just
executed its clearance to taxi to Runway 24L from Gate 32 given by the local controller (LC2) in the
LAX tower, and was holding short (NTSB, 1991, p. 5). It was now 6:03PM, about 40 minutes after
Sunset, with a cloud deck at 30,000 feet and 15 miles of visibility (NTSB, ... Show more content on

Once the nose began to lower the two pilots of USA 1493 immediately saw Skywest 5569 sitting on
the runway and applied the brakes, but there was no time. At 6:07PM USA 1493 slammed into
Skywest 5569, crippling the nose gear of the B 737 and igniting an explosion that resulted in the two
aircraft skidding off the left side of the runway and slamming into an unoccupied fire station. 64
passengers, 3 cabin crewmembers, and the First Officer successfully evacuated the burning B 737
(NTSB, 1991, p. 8).
Investigation
During the investigation, NTSB investigators processed and analyzed voice recordings, toxicology
results, conducted meteorological, site surveys and reviewed shift logs as well as airline and airport
operating procedures. The voice recordings and operating procedures were the most vital in
understanding the diminished situational awareness that took place that day. USA 1493 s FDR and the
ATC radio recordings were successfully recovered and would help investigators determine exactly
what went wrong on February 1st, 1991 as well as the workload experienced by both pilots and
controllers. The captain and crew of USA 1493 were fully qualified and fully staffed for the flight.
Witnesses who saw the crew beforehand stated that they appeared to be well rested. The exact same
was true for Skywest 5569. The controller for 1493 and 5569 had a total

Big Tobacco Advertising
Marketing options for big tobacco companies fizzled after the original Surgeon General report was
published which prohibited the mass advertisement of tobacco in America. The push for smoking
cessation for all in the United States has become big business. Long gone are the days of tobacco ads
showing young adults enjoying themselves on beaches and at parties smoking cigarettes. Now,
electronic cigarettes (E cigs), nicotine patches and gums, and pharmaceutical cessation aids are being
marketed. Tobacco companies continue to fight for the freedom to market and enlist consumers,
sighting that smoking is voluntary, and the choice should be made by the consumer not the
government.

At this point I have smoked cigarettes for approximately ten years. I have a daughter, husband, and a
blossoming career in the nursing field. I know the need to quit smoking is there for all the reasons I
stated, but the habit remains. In the past, I have tried nicotine gum and the prescription Chantix in
efforts to quit but my addiction remains. I had a brief period of success, lasting five months without a
single cigarette, but quickly reverted after knowing that I had the ability to quit. Where is the logic in
that? This exercise allowed me to reflect on the how I go to this point, also how I still have the
opportunity to avoid further damage to my body. However, smoking dulls my tension and irritability,
the comfort I receive from smoking seems to be my biggest fear in quitting. Since this exercise, I have
limited my cigarette use, cutting out my second smoke break at work. Small steps are going to
contribute to my success in smoking cessation, but I am grateful for the opportunity to write my
feelings down and share them with you. I have every motivation to quit smoking and plan on fulfilling
this goal. Hopefully, by this time next year I will be a bonafide nonsmoker lecturing and shaking my

Snakes are Infected with Ophidian Paramyxovirus Virus
Ophidian paramyxovirus is a virus that affects snakes, particularly in the family Viperidae; it
compromises the immune system, which can lead to mortality through secondary bacterial infections.
This negative sense, single stranded RNA virus infects the respiratory system and can be transmitted
through feces, respiratory tract secretions, fomites, or vectors such as mites; as such, in captivity, good
husbandry practices are critical to prevent transmission of this disease. Paramyxovirus is a viral
pathogen. The natural host and origin for this virus is unknown, but it is possible that it is not a viperid
(5). The first reported outbreak of paramyxovirus in snakes was in a group of Brazilian lancehead
vipers in a serpentarium in Switzerland (1). These vipers were originally from Brazil, so it is likely
that the origin of the virus is found in Brazil (5). The virus itself is an RNA virus consisting of a
filamentous particle enveloped in a spiked membrane, and can be between 140 and 321 nanometers in
diameter. The virus replicates at an optimal temperature of 30°C, so the disease is a particular concern
in colder seasons (3). This virus is easily transmitted between individuals, particularly when they are
housed close to each other. It is most often transmitted through respiratory secretions (2). It can also
be transmitted through aerosols, such as sputum, and oral and cloacal secretions. The virus may persist
in water and may be spread through feces. It can also be

The Rights Of The United States Constitution
The United States Constitution was designed to enfranchise the white men who, in 1787, were the
only citizens included in John Locke s conception of the social contract (outlined in his Second
Treatise of Government). At this time in history, women were not invited to be free and equal, in
relation to their husbands and fathers or as citizens in the founding fathers new republic. Therefore,
the Constitution never addresses abortion, contraception, or marriage. Arguments made in laws and
court cases on these topics, specifically reproductive rights, have therefore traditionally rested on a
right to privacy the court has interpreted as being found in the first, fourth, fifth, and fourteenth
amendments to the Constitution, rather than a right to freedom from sex based discrimination found in
the nineteenth amendment. The landmark supreme court cases Griswold v. Connecticut and Roe v.
Wade were both won on these grounds, both setting a precedent for the expansion of the right to
privacy. This protection has also been affected by the 2003 Partial Birth Abortion Ban and the Hyde
Amendment.
First off, in 1965 the supreme court ruled 7 2 in the Griswold v. Connecticut case that the state of
Connecticut s ban on contraception was unconstitutional, because it denied a married couple s right to
privacy (a right extended to unmarried individuals under the Griswold precedent in the 1972
Eisenstadt v. Baird supreme court case). This expansion of privacy in Griswold later informed Roe v.

Discuss the Ways In Which Two Poems In The Anthology Explore The
Effects Of Untimely Death
When men went to war, there was every chance of them dying. But, their friends and family could
never had prepared themselves for news of that person s death. Untimely death is a theme which is
explored throughout the anthology in many ways, in particular, looking at the effects of the news of
death upon loved ones.
The Seed Merchant s Son is a poem by Agnes Grozier Herbertson that conveys the bereavement that a
man feels for his son who has died at war. This poem continuously emphasises the youth of the boy,
which constantly reiterates the idea of untimely death, as the boy died before he could live a full life.
The fact that the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The author uses elipses toward the end of the poem to generate a dramatic silence which could be seen
as the silence after the death of the young soldier had been told to his father and the shock and
desperation that the man felt during that time. The man would have thought about his son who had
never before seen seed or sod . This line uses sibilance which has a threatening sound to it which
could be interpreted as the fear that the young soldiers would all have to go through knowing that they
might never again feel a sence of solace.
By the end of this poem, the man has come to terms with the boy s death as although the man is
sadened, he is very proud of his son for fighting for his country. The man murmurs thank G d, thank G
d , showing that he is proud of his son for the sacrifice he made.
Another poem in the anthology that portrays the pathos involved and explores the repracussions of
untimely death is The Deserter by
Winifred M. Letts, which tells of the soldiers being forced to go to war and being dogged by fear . The
author writes how one man who
could not face the German guns was shot by an English bullet in his heart for desertion. He was shot
in a place apart , showing that he was absolutely alone and could be interpreted that

Reflection Paper On Field Experience
Field Experience Reflection Paper For this field experience my group have taught five different
lessons that has consisted of four different groups of students. This made it difficult to analyze the
different students work, and to know what types of problems each student typically struggles with.
Since we had different students, my group was able to pose similar problems to different students and
it allowed us to get better with our teaching. Since we used similar problems, we were able to practice
our questioning skills and get better after each lesson. Lesson 1: For the first day we only had five to
ten minutes with one student named Lucas and posed the following problem: Sarah has 78 apples. She
needs to put 6 apples in each basket. How many full baskets will she have?his student solved the
problem by writing, 6, 12, 18, 24, 30, 36, 42, .... Lucas wrote all the way up to 78 and he was able to
tell us that there would be 13 baskets. That first day, I could have been better at communicating with
Lucas. I should have asked at the beginning, what do know about this problem? What are you trying
to find? Do you have any questions about the problem?. I believe that this would have helped clear up
any confusion that Lucas could have had. We also read the problem out loud, what we should have
done was type it in the chat box and then read it aloud. Big mistake on our part. Overall, Lucas was
able to solve the problem, but we could have done better with communicating to him.

Behind ASBOS ASBOs where built on multitude of theories, one being the theory of developmental
crime prevention, which is essentially to reduce the criminal probability within individuals, with the
idea that social and individual factors guide a person s overall development (Sullivan, 2013). This
approach looks at the ability to encourage positive environments for development to diminish risk
factors such as disability s, isolation, poverty, life events such as divorce and to increase protective
factors, such as support and training. It is important to note that theses risk elements alone do not
calculate future offending, however, are important when considering potential behavioural and
developmental issues that may occur later (Australian Institute of Criminology, 2002). This theory was
applied to ASBOs as its key, due to that theses order aim is to identify risk behaviours, such as anti
social behaviour, and prohibit theses behaviours progressing any

Essay On My Birthday
When a person´s birthday comes around does he/she ever wonder what happened on his/her birthday
before he/she was even thought of? Do they ever wonder about the special events that happened on
that day besides their birth? I was astonished to have found out how much had happened on October
19. I was born on October 19, 2000. My parents are Billy and Teresa Summerlin. I was born in
Mission Hospital on a Thursday morning. It was fifty eight degrees and it was dark outside. My doctor
was Dr. David Cobb, and he said that I was a miracle baby. I weighed four pounds and thirteen ounces
because I wasn t getting the nutrition that I needed because the umbilical cord was wrapped around
my stomach, and I couldn t breathe well. My grandmother had a gall bladder attack the same day I
was born and was also put in the hospital. My family said that I looked like a naked squirrel when I
was born. My first name, Alexis is a Greek name that means defender or helper. My last name,
Summerlin is a Scottish name that means mariner, viking, or wander. On October 19, 2012 the statue
¨Big Tex was destroyed by fire during the State Fair of Texas. Another thing that happened on my
birthday was that Henry Ford made his first radio speech in 1932. One thing that interested me the
most was in 1960, Martin Luther King Jr. was arrested at an Atlanta sit in at ¨The Magnolia Room¨ On
this day, 52 protesters, including King, were arrested for violating the legislation. They were charged

Defining Honesty Essay
Defining Honesty Winston Churchill once said, Men occasionally stumble over the truth, but most of

Honesty is classified as a noun in part of speech. Honesty has many similar meanings; such as
uprightness, morality, trustworthiness, goodness, scrupulousness, decency, rectitude, righteousness,
fairness, reliability and honor. These synonyms are all equal to truth. The meaning of honesty in this
essay is applied about truth. An example of is could be that Jen is an honest person in the world, she
never lies, respects others, and when she is tempted to cheat on her test, she overcomes with her power
of honesty. This fits the definition about truthfulness in everything.
There is also another different meaning of honesty, such as plants with flat papery seed pods: a hardy
European plant with purplish or white flowers and flat silvery seed pods that are often used for indoor
decoration. Its Latin name is Lunaria annua. It also called silver dollar, money plant, and satin flower.
This meaning is totally different than average people know about the honesty. Normally people won t
think honesty as a plant related thing. Many would be surprised by this definition. How many would
go and say honesty is a beautiful plant?
There can t be a society without any honest people, because that society would

organisation within the cell
The genome, all the genetic material encoded within the sequence of deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA),
which is unique to each individual organism, has all the information required for a cell to sustain life.
This is possible due to gene expression which is the process of the genetic code, DNA, being
translated into proteins which a cell can then utilise for specific functions whether it be a unicellular or
multicellular organism. Through this process there are many steps taken from the raw genetic code to
the finished protein, the cell ensuring each step progresses without mistake and that the resulting

2017.). This is shown in figure 1. A eukaryotic organism can also have promoters and repressors,
though there are more ways in which a gene can be regulated. For instance, DNA in eukaryotic
organisms binds tightly to histones, a type of protein, and this forms chromatin. Depending on how
decondensed the chromatin is can affect how easily the gene can be transcribed
(www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov. 2017.). Processes such as these are needed throughout all branches of life,
and once a gene is no longer being repressed it can then be transcribed.
Transcription is the copying of a strand of DNA, called the template strand, to form single stranded

Both Stephen Crane s Do Not Weep, Maiden, For War Is Kind and Wilfred Owen s Dulce et Decorum
Est use vivid images, diction rich with connotation, similes, and metaphors to portray the irony
between the idealized glory of war and the lurid reality of war. However, by looking at the different
ways these elements are used in each poem, it is clear that the speakers in the two poems are soldiers
who come from opposite ends of the spectrum of military ranks. One speaker is an officer and the
other is a foot soldier. Each of the speakers/soldiers is dealing with the repercussions from his own
realities of the horror of war based on his duty ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The most vivid and shocking image used is when the speaker internally addresses the child and tells
him that his father tumbled in the yellow trenches, / Raged at his breast, gulped and died (13 14). This
is not something one would tell a child, especially when consoling him. The use of the word trenches,
which could be metaphors for graves, contributes to the implicit theme of a funeral setting. This
contradiction between verbally comforting family members and internally giving them detailed
descriptions of their loved one s death, shows the speaker s struggle with the idea that families and
others typically hear the glossed over story of the nobility of soldiers and the glory of war. This
speaker is battling with his military duty of consoling the family members and with his conscience
wanting to open their eyes to the fact that these men die gruesome and painful deaths.
The second and fourth stanzas particularly support the theory that the officer is at the funeral of a
lower ranking soldier whom he led into battle. In the second and fourth stanzas, the officer is
reviewing his own thoughts during the time of the battle; this is an indication that he is struggling with
the decisions he has made. At the beginning of the second stanza, he uses an image of the Hoarse,

Dystopian Film, Divergent, And Children Of Men
Children of Men tells the story of illegal immigrants trying to find a place of refuge or safety within
the United Kingdom. In another dystopian film, Divergent, the characters live in a world that is
divided into five factions which is supposed to prevent future war. In both films, the government has
an impact on the characters. In Children of men it has the characteristics of contemporary society
while in Divergent it has both characteristics of a communist and capitalist societies. But what they
both have in common is that in each film it shows images of war weather it would be mental or
physical. Survival and revolution are shown to have a role in each film differently. Both films relay
the idea of redemption and hope for the future while having a dystopia setting.
Alfonso Cuaron, the director of the film Children of Men, relays a contemporary society by having the
movie based in the future, and he shows changes of the world and international political institutions.
How the future is not all the fancy technology and the society is broken because everything revolves
around the elimination of immigrants. With that it is causing the government to turn into a police state
by trying to get rid of all the immigrants. He adds some paints in the movie that are represented as

My Communication Skills Of My Life And How They Have Been...
Being able to communicate is a great skill that one can practice every day of our lives. There are
several ways or types of communication skills I have learned in this course such as vocally, written,
visually, or non verbally. In this assignment, I am going to write about my communication skills in
three periods of my life and how they have been developed. First, I would like to talk about how I was
when I was a little. When I was about five or six years old, I was spoiled between my family just like
most of the other kids. However, outside my house I can describe myself as a shy and quiet girl that I
sometimes in school I have been bullied by other students. When I was five years old my dad enrolled
me and my half brother who is as my age in a kindergarten school. I was always with my brother and I
felt safe around him, but when we become at the seventh age, my dad couldn t have enrolled us in the
same school because he was told that I was born at the last days of November and they would accept
me in the school with the next generation. Therefore, my dad decided that I am going to a private
school so that I can be with my generation.
At the first day of school I was afraid to be alone without having my brother around me. I just hated
that school because I was just by myself, and my classmates were not nice to me at all. The boys and
some girls were very mean and like to be bullying for example, they always take my stuff and refused
to return them back when I ask them to,

Civilian Criminal Process
A COMPARATIVE ANALYSIS OF CIVILIAN AND MILITARY CRIMINAL PROCEDURES
Introduction
When a crime has been committed, the case proceeds through the criminal justice system from
investigation and arrest through probation and parole. However, the process can vary wildly between a
civilian offender being tried at the local, state, or federal level and a military offender being tried in a
military court martial.
The Civilian Criminal Process
Pre Trial Procedure The civilian process begins with the investigation. Once an investigation is
cleared, warrants are issued and the police make an arrest. In some cases, such as when an officer
witnesses the crime taking place, the arrest may proceed the warrant or the case may go straight from
arrest to completion ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, it is not a retrial. An appeal is merely a request to review the trial and how it was conducted.
If procedure was not followed at some point in the process or the defendant was not awarded full
Constitutional rights, a conviction could be overturned. Following the sentencing hearing, many
offenders will be classified and assigned to a specific corrections facility. Which facility is utilized
depends on local procedures, confinement facilities, and treatment programs. Common problems with
this post sentencing avenue includes lock psychosis (a preoccupation with security) and a severe
shortage of decent rehabilitation

Houdini s Legacy
Achieving the dream
Imagine a world with no one to help, everyone is only looking to better themselves. After a big
hurricane of the coast of New Orleans in 2005, the town was a disaster. With nobody to come to the
rescue it was everyone for themselves. This hurricane was hurricane Katrina and it was a category
three hurricane. It devastated the state of Louisiana and was a vicious storm. Over 80% of the large
roads and major areas were flooded by this storm. This lasted for weeks and the outcome was not only
horrible to think about but horrible to witness.
In 2005 during the coastal hurricane season there were many hurricanes. People were prepared for
small hurricanes and small wind. Although as it be, not even Houdini could have predicted ... Show

They have one basic goal and that is to help cancer patients enjoy their life and have fun. Not only that
they have the ability to bring a community together. New Orleans went from a city torn by Hurricane
Katrina, with no hope and a split community, to one that has hosted a super bowl and an all star game.
This was all a gift from Drew and the BreesDream foundation. When Drew arrived with his charity in
New Orleans, the city was back on it s feet and up and running. They were still split until Drew led the
Saints to their first ever super bowl win. But his work on the field only shows a fraction of his
greatness. He is such a considerate and helpful person and he always helps whoever is in need. He has
only been in the city of New Orleans for twelve years yet he is already ranked number two on the
most influential people in New Orleans, that is quite a feat for such a young player. His charity has
always been there to help us, so let s be there to help

Insolvency can occur when certain things happen, some of which may include: poor cash management, increase in costs, or decrease in cash flow. A finding of insolvency is imperative, as particular rights are empowered for the creditor to exercise against the insolvent individual or organization. Mr. Darcy saw Elizabeth and knew she was a nice girl but didn t want to dance with her simply because she wasn t handsome enough as he put it. Mr. Darcy wanted someone who was wealthy, and he could tell that Elizabeth wasn t wealthy. Mr. Darcy looked down on the Bennet s before he even got a chance to get to know them. • 5. Police Law Enforcement Protection And Citizen s Civil... In 1991, nearly 10% of all United States murders occurred in New York City (La Vorgna, 2012). The United States civil liberties grant citizen s rights and freedoms as determined by the Constitution and Bill of Rights. Every citizen has the right to walk their streets without being racially targeted by police. They also have the right to roam these streets without being mugged or killed. Both are civil liberties. Amidst times of racial and ethnic animosity, this country faces a problem between law enforcement protection and citizen s civil liberties. Stop and frisk is a policing tactic where officers stop, question, and frisk a civilian based on reasonable suspicion of criminal activity. Many argue the New York Police Department s (NYPD) use of stop and frisk is an obvious violation of the Constitution and is based on racial discrimination. The Supreme Court of the United States (SCOTUS) has heard many controversial cases dealing with this exact problem. Cases such as Terry v. Ohio and Federal Judge Shira Scheindlin s partial ruling of Floyd v. City of New York have greatly impacted both law enforcement tactics and the meanings of certain civil liberties. An analysis of the United States judicial history and the biased decisions of Judge Scheindlin shows the NYPD s use of stop and frisk tactic is not only constitutionally reasonable, but a non discriminatory way of reducing crime. During 1968, Terry v. Ohio established the legal precedence for stop and frisk. The fourth ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Barbarian Invasions Evidently, Barbarian invasions were the most significant factor in the downfall of the Western Roman Empire predominantly because they weakened the empire and thus made it vulnerable to other problems such as a poor economic situation and political weaknesses within the empire. Barbarian invasions occurred frequently throughout the timeline yet one of the most significant invasions was the sack of Rome in 410 AD by Alaric and the Visigoths because this was the first time Rome was defeated in 800 years therefore signalling the beginning of the end of the Western Roman Empire. The Visigoths has crossed the Rhine river and were looking for land to settle and to be accepted within the empire and so Alaric decided to besiege Rome until the senate paid him to leave. This resulted in Rome being sieged a total of 3 times before the gates to Rome were opened from within and Rome was finally sacked. This was a massive shock to the empire as it accentuated its weaknesses and the Visigoths looted places of aristocracy and killed Romans who resisted and women were raped. This also drastically worsened the economic situation as during the months in which Rome was under siege, people began to die of hunger with some even resorting to cannibalism. • 9. The Year Round Schooling System Essay The traditional school calendar used by most schools in the United States stems from the original agrarian calendar as students were often called to tend to crops in the summer. This was thoughtfully and effectively designed for the time period it was created in; however, schools, research, and society have dramatically changed since then. The agrarian calendar no longer makes sense, as we consider overcrowding in schools and the significant research regarding the summer brain drain. There are several models of year round schooling that would better serve all stakeholders in most communities across the nation. Position and Rationale American students do not need more time in school, but do need access to more rigorous, engaging instruction, as well as a calendar that removes the excessive break schedule (summers) and promotes healthy, regular breaks throughout the year, such as the single track year round schooling system. Year round education includes the possibility of three different formats: single track, multi track, and the extended school year. Rodgers (1993) reports that the United States has the shortest school year of (180 days) of any industrialized nation. She encourages school districts to analyze other models of year round education as a method of boosting student achievement. In order to support the points, it will also include the real life examples. AC 1.1 Background and development of ethical approaches Teleological ethic this describes an ethical theory which judges the rightness of an action in terms of an external goal or purpose. So, according to a teleological theory, consequences always play some part, be it small or large, in the determination of what one should or should not do. Not all teleological theories are consequentialist. John Rawls theory of justice is teleological, but not consequentialist because it claims that consequences are only part of what must be considered when determining what policy is morally just. For example, animal testing is the moral choice to put animal through pain or not. The reason behind defining animal testing in a make up factory it is for a greater good as if the animal gets hurt now, people are saved later as people will be able to use the products that are developed and safe to use later. Some people think that the crude language used in television serves no purpose and shows that a program was made by a bunch of idiots, intellectually, who cannot think of anything intelligent to say. On the other side of the spectrum, people could argue that vulgar language in movies or television serves as a way to make fun or to interpret stupidity in our society. The first reported outbreak of paramyxovirus in snakes was in a group of Brazilian lancehead vipers in a serpentarium in Switzerland (1). These vipers were originally from Brazil, so it is likely that the origin of the virus is found in Brazil (5). The virus itself is an RNA virus consisting of a filamentous particle enveloped in a spiked membrane, and can be between 140 and 321 nanometers in diameter. The virus replicates at an optimal temperature of 30°C, so the disease is a particular concern in colder seasons (3). This virus is easily transmitted between individuals, particularly when they are housed close to each other. It is most often transmitted through respiratory secretions (2). It can also be transmitted through aerosols, such as sputum, and oral and cloacal secretions. The virus may persist in water and may be spread through feces. It can also be ... • 26. The Rights Of The United States Constitution The United States Constitution was designed to enfranchise the white men who, in 1787, were the only citizens included in John Locke s conception of the social contract (outlined in his Second Treatise of Government). At this time in history, women were not invited to be free and equal, in relation to their husbands and fathers or as citizens in the founding fathers new republic. Therefore, the Constitution never addresses abortion, contraception, or marriage. Arguments made in laws and court cases on these topics, specifically reproductive rights, have therefore traditionally rested on a right to privacy the court has interpreted as being found in the first, fourth, fifth, and fourteenth amendments to the Constitution, rather than a right to freedom from sex based discrimination found in the nineteenth amendment. The landmark supreme court cases Griswold v. Connecticut and Roe v. Wade were both won on these grounds, both setting a precedent for the expansion of the right to privacy. This protection has also been affected by the 2003 Partial Birth Abortion Ban and the Hyde Amendment. First off, in 1965 the supreme court ruled 7 2 in the Griswold v. Connecticut case that the state of Connecticut s ban on contraception was unconstitutional, because it denied a married couple s right to privacy (a right extended to unmarried individuals under the Griswold precedent in the 1972 Eisenstadt v. Baird supreme court case). This expansion of privacy in Griswold later informed Roe v. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Discuss the Ways In Which Two Poems In The Anthology Explore The Effects Of Untimely Death When men went to war, there was every chance of them dying. But, their friends and family could never had prepared themselves for news of that person s death. Untimely death is a theme which is explored throughout the anthology in many ways, in particular, looking at the effects of the news of death upon loved ones. The Seed Merchant s Son is a poem by Agnes Grozier Herbertson that conveys the bereavement that a man feels for his son who has died at war. This poem continuously emphasises the youth of the boy, which constantly reiterates the idea of untimely death, as the boy died before he could live a full life. The fact that the ... This line uses sibilance which has a threatening sound to it which could be interpreted as the fear that the young soldiers would all have to go through knowing that they might never again feel a sence of solace. By the end of this poem, the man has come to terms with the boy s death as although the man is sadened, he is very proud of his son for fighting for his country. The man murmurs thank G d, thank G d , showing that he is proud of his son for the sacrifice he made. Another poem in the anthology that portrays the pathos involved and explores the repracussions of untimely death is The Deserter by Winifred M. Letts, which tells of the soldiers being forced to go to war and being dogged by fear . The author writes how one man who could not face the German guns was shot by an English bullet in his heart for desertion. Reflection Paper On Field Experience Field Experience Reflection Paper For this field experience my group have taught five different lessons that has consisted of four different groups of students. This made it difficult to analyze the different students work, and to know what types of problems each student typically struggles with. Since we had different students, my group was able to pose similar problems to different students and it allowed us to get better with our teaching. Since we used similar problems, we were able to practice our questioning skills and get better after each lesson. Lesson 1: For the first day we only had five to ten minutes with one student named Lucas and posed the following problem: Sarah has 78 apples. She needs to put 6 apples in each basket. How many full baskets will she have?his student solved the problem by writing, 6, 12, 18, 24, 30, 36, 42, .... Lucas wrote all the way up to 78 and he was able to tell us that there would be 13 baskets. That first day, I could have been better at communicating with Lucas. I should have asked at the beginning, what do know about this problem? What are you trying to find? Do you have any questions about the problem?. I believe that this would have helped clear up any confusion that Lucas could have had. We also read the problem out loud, what we should have done was type it in the chat box and then read it aloud. Big mistake on our part. Overall, Lucas was able to solve the problem, but we could have done better with communicating to him. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This approach looks at the ability to encourage positive environments for development to diminish risk factors such as disability s, isolation, poverty, life events such as divorce and to increase protective factors, such as support and training. It is important to note that theses risk elements alone do not calculate future offending, however, are important when considering potential behavioural and developmental issues that may occur later (Australian Institute of Criminology, 2002). Depending on how decondensed the chromatin is can affect how easily the gene can be transcribed (www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov. 2017.). Processes such as these are needed throughout all branches of life, and once a gene is no longer being repressed it can then be transcribed. However, by looking at the different ways these elements are used in each poem, it is clear that the speakers in the two poems are soldiers who come from opposite ends of the spectrum of military ranks. This contradiction between verbally comforting family members and internally giving them detailed descriptions of their loved one s death, shows the speaker s struggle with the idea that families and others typically hear the glossed over story of the nobility of soldiers and the glory of war. This speaker is battling with his military duty of consoling the family members and with his conscience wanting to open their eyes to the fact that these men die gruesome and painful deaths. The second and fourth stanzas particularly support the theory that the officer is at the funeral of a lower ranking soldier whom he led into battle.
