Who Invented The Airplane Research Paper
I had always wondered how the Wright brothers invented the airplane. Slowly I had become
more and more interested in flight. Because of my interests, I decided to build a time machine in
my garage and take it to 1896, when the Wright brothers first started working on the plane. It
took me a year to completely finish the machine. Then the day finally came to test it out.
Shaking, I climbed into the small cylinder and typed in 1896. After I pressed the button the
machine shook. Nervously and excitedly I opened the door. Surprisingly I found myself in a
small town. After walking around for a while I saw two men through the window of a building.
They seemed to be building something. Looking through the window I saw the blueprints on the
table, it looked like a plane. That was exactly what I was looking for.... Show more content on

What are you building ? I asked, even though I already knew. They explained to me their whole
plan, like how they were going to make it and what they were going to make it out of. That
sounds very interesting I said. We could use an extra hand one of the brothers told me. They
asked me if I wanted to help. Very excitedly I agreed. It was very hard work ,but it was also very
fun. It was also amazing that I got to work with the Wright brothers. It took us about a year to
finish the plane. When we were finished, we ran into small problem. Who was going to be the
first to fly it? I wasn t sure I wanted to fly it but then I started thinking. How cool would it be to
be the first person to fly ! So I decided to volunteer. Everyone thought it was crazy for a girl to be
the first to fly, but I didn t listen to them. It was exciting and scary at the same time. No one knew

Persuasive Essay On Nuclear Weapons
In the day by day uproar of current crises facing the entire humankind, we almost forgot that
many generations are yet to come. Not the individuals who will live quite a while like 100 or
200 years from now, but 1,000 or a long time from now. Personally, I would use the word hope to
describe them since we are facing dangers, called existential dangers, that threaten to wipe out
the entire mankind. These dangers are not only for big disasters but rather the disasters that
could end history in few seconds. Today, nuclear war and climate change are the biggest threats
to civilization and are intrinsically linked. Beyond the physical destruction of the bomb and the
resulting radiation, the impact of even a small nuclear disturbance could be profound, leading to
serious issues of food scarcity. For as long as humans have walked this Earth we have been
concerned with one issue, domestic safety. Everyone around the world wants to feel as though
they are safe from all imminent threats to themselves and their homes. As technology has
progressed so has the threat to our safety as there is never world peace. The only counterbalance
is that as threats have become more advanced our defensive technologies and tactics have
improved as well. We have now reached a period in which innovation is at maximum capacity and
we are also trying to improve and implement new defense strategies. This innovation has brought
us to the day and age of Nuclear Weapons. Nuclear weapons have proven to be

U.s. Army Signal Corps Essay
The U.S. Air Force started its days as the U.S. Army Signal Corps on Aug. 1, 1907, when a small
aeronautical division took charge of all matter that pertained to military air machines,
ballooning and all kindred subjects (Pawlyk, Canty News, n.d.). The Air Force has undergone
some significant changes throughout the years, but it has only done so because it has
identified its strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats. History The first plane was
tested at Fort Meyer, Virginia, on Aug. 20, 1908. On this date, Lt. Thomas E. Selfridge died
while flying with Orville Wright, which was the first military aviation casualty. After more
testing and improvements came to the aircraft, the U.S. Army accepted the first plane on Aug.
2, 1909, which was called Airplane No. 1. On July 18, 1915, former president Woodrow Wilson
signed a bill stating the Signal Corps an Aviation Section was to replace the aeronautical
division. The aviation section was to supervise and operate all military aircraft, which at the time
included balloons and airplanes. This section also looked after all the equipment and appliances
that pertained to the crafts. The section trained officers and enlisted members in military aviation.
During World War I, the 1st Aero Squadron represented air power of the U.S. Army and started
with a total of 12 officers, 54 enlisted men and only six aircraft. By the end of 1915 the aviation
section grew to 44 officers, 224 enlisted members and 23 airplanes. While

The Downfall Of A Christian Man
The Downfall of a Christian Man Evil is defined as profound immorality, wickedness, and
depravity. Evil can take over and control someone if they surround their self and give in to the
devilish temptations. Over a period of time evil can change a person to eventually become the
person they said they would never be. In Young Goodman Brown, GoodmanBrown starts off a very
good Christian man and goes on a walk through the forest leaving behind his wife Faith for the
night. Goodman Brown stubbles upon something along the path in the forest that is evil.
Throughout the story of Brown, his protagonist changes into evil because of what he encounters.
Goodman Brown changes because the effect the dark wilderness, a strange evil presence, and
curiosity had on him. Goodman Brown in Young Goodman Brown , changes from a good
Christian man to a mysterious and uncertain man by the end of his life. When one day Brown
decides to take a walk through the forest at night; without his wife Faith, he is all alone. Since the
moment Goodman Brown starts walking into the dark forest scares him because he believes that
there is no good in the forest. In the United States fearof darkness is number four 11% (Fear
/Phobia Statistics). Fear of darkness is caused by what could happen in the dark where you cannot
see what is coming (Fear of Darkness Phobia...). When Goodman Brown begins his journey into the
wilderness he begins to think of many evil things that could be in the darkness. He begins

Ibn Kammuna Examination Of Three Faiths Summary
During the 13th century, religious dialogue among different cultures was expanding at a rapid rate
(457). With this cross cultural exchange came competing views which vied for religious dominance
in both Eastern and Western civilizations. Notably, many arguments in favor of Christianity were
spread by Franciscan friars such as John of Plano Carpini, John of Monte Corvino, and William of
Ruysbruck. Additionally, scholars such as Ibn Kammuna concerned themselves with the
comparative study of religion. As a Jewish thinker, Ibn Kammuna found this comparative study to
be particularly important within the context of Judaism, Christianity, and Islam in order to defend
monotheism in the East (468). Though the Franciscan friars may have had more at stake in their
defenses of Christianity (as a political tactic against a Mongol invasion of Europe, for example), it
is Ibn Kammuna s arguments concerning Christianity that are most persuasive to non Christians.
Ibn Kammuna begins his Examination of Three Faiths by succinctly and effectively explaining
what the major tenets of Christianity are, showing that he is knowledgeable on the subject.
Interestingly, though Kammuna himself was a Jewish scholar, he explains the tenets of
Christianity in the first person, as if speaking on behalf of Christians: We believe all that is in the
Torah ... We are truly monotheists ... (469). After this exposition of the Christian faith, Ibn
Kammuna immediately begins to write about the many discrepancies

Strength Of Zara
Section I: Overview of Business Strengths
Zara, Daughter Company of Inditex, is a fashion retailer known for innovating the fashion industry
and changing the way the industry operates forever. Zara, the largest retailer in the world, has
raised the bar, forcing other companies to follow suit in rapid product turnover with small batch
production and high number of designs to please their customers. Zara produces more than 450
million products annually and has 1770 stores in 86 countries. Their success derives from their
process innovation which dictates all aspects of their operations; they took a different route and
gained a competitive advantage that no one expected. Process innovation for Zara meant changing

This speed makes everything possible updated pricing, the most relevant designs to customer
desires, re ordering or stocking the store, and more. Salespeople at the stores use PDAs to send
customer feedback directly to headquarters multiple times a day; their PDAs show how items rank
by sales (Investile). They try to talk with the customers and find out what they like or do not like
about a product, and track the items that are tried on but left in fitting rooms. They also have a
Point of Sale system which sends record of products that are sold or returned also directly to the
headquarters (Strategic). This data is helpful not only in assessing which products are good and
bad, but also what to re order or mark up, how many clothes they need to be shipped in the next
batch, and take note of the type of clothes that the store in that particular geographic area sell
best to ensure they are sent the clothes that will sell best in that location. Each store manager has
weekly conversations with store managers and market specialists. The store managers also send
all of their collected information multiple times a day to be used for future designing and pricing,
but they are empowered to do the ordering themselves (Zhelyazkov); this empowerment makes
for more invested managers who are happier and care more about the success of the company.
Clearly Zara makes it a top priority for their customers to be heard as soon as

Corporate Social Responsibility As Risk Management
In the interviews with the five managers, the research found three made reasons being posited for
engaging in CSR. These are similar to what Kytle Ruggie (2005) indicates in his study. The three
reasons are discussed below:
Philanthropy
The structured interview session revealed that majority of the managers (5) prefer philanthropy as a
direct and least involving CSR strategy. These managers admitted that they channel their financial
contribution to various governmental or non governmental organizations that act as implementing
agencies of various programs in the society. This support model is the most preferable CSR
concept as compared to other CSR strategies that have been discussed in this paper. This has been
confirmed by Kytle ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These entail the construction of schools by these corporates and paying fee for the learners. The
respondents equally mentioned that they intend to be involved in supporting churches and other
social institutions directly.
The researcher also had discussions with the interviewees regarding the benefits that these CSR
activities have brought to the organization. It was established that many organizations have a CSR
Policy, which defines areas of concern and initiatives to improve relations with the people and
environments affected by business operations (Bell, 2016). The interviewees agreed however that
CSR is about more than environmental responsibility or having a recycling policy. Its initiatives
take organizations beyond compliance with legislation and leads them to honor ethical values,
respect people, communities and the natural environment. But most of all CSR is sustainable
involving activities that their organization can maintain without adversely affecting the business
goals. Few benefits mentioned were;
1.Win new business
2.Increase customer retention
3.Develop and enhance relationships with customers, suppliers and networks
4.Save money on energy and operating costs and manage risk
5.Differentiate company from competitors
6.Improve the business reputation and standing
7.Generate positive publicity and media opportunities due to media interest in ethical business
activities

What Is The Theme Of 2pac
2Pac Shakur landed in the top ten again this week with Changes , and so it appears that he is
enjoying more success posthumously than when he lived. Has his iconic status increased because
of his death, or could it be that his lyrics have struck a chord with African Americans across the
nation. Rolling Stone hit the streets of 2Pac s old neighborhood in Marin City, asking young
African Americans how the lyrics of Changes made them feel. Here s a brotha who understands

area. Where, though, in the lyrics do young African Americans identify with 2Pac s message?

First of all, as the saying goes, it takes one to know one. 2Pac s criminal past and time in prison
have earned him respect among troubled, black youth. But what s more, he speaks to them in their
language, a lyrical, almost sophisticated form of Ebonics or African AmericanVernacular English
(AAVE). The rhythm and rhyme of the lyrics is engaging and compelling, which we see in the
afore mentioned lines, jack you up, back you up / crack you up and pimp smack you up. The
verb, to pimp smack one up exemplifies the poetic style of street speech. Finally he addresses his
audience as his brothers , he uses the word nigga in a permissible context and alludes casually to
Huey , a.k.a. Huey P. Lewis, co founder of the Black Panthers. These are all in group markers,
which help establish his credit and rapport among African Americans in general and black
gangsters specifically. It is for these reasons that he has earned the right to speak to them about
these complex issues.
In the midst of the many depressing scenarios that 2Pac sketches from children dying of drug abuse
to the constant fear of being killed by an old enemy ( I never get to lay back / Cause I always got to
worry bout the pay backs ), his spoken words cast a ray of light and call for

The Republic Of Niger, A Poor, Landlocked Country Essay
The Republic of Niger, a poor, landlocked country, located in the heart of Sub Saharan West Africa.
Niger has seen its fair share of change throughout the decades; moving away from the control of the
French Parliament in 1960, Niger formally declared its independence. Despite this bold act of
independence, Nigerwould not see its first steps towards democracy until the early 1990 s, when
they held their first open election as a free state. However, even with the empowerment of the
people in a democratic government, Niger has seen itself nearly torn apart as a result constant
coups, that have occurred as recently as 2010. Such instability has led to incredulous amounts of
corruption and poverty, within the Niger government. This lack of stability and constant turnover in
government, has been a driving factor behind the lack of resources available for educationin Niger.
Although education in Niger is free, the country is nearly entirely rural with an unevenly
distributed population. These factors have lead to a lack of schoolbuildings in nearly every part of
Niger, and as a result, Niger has an adult literacy rate of only 28.7%; this being the second lowest
literacy rate in all of Western Africa, trailed only by Burkina Faso (21.8%). Niger s education
system is based on the incredibly successful model of France which consists of: primary school,
secondary school and finally higher education. While this model has been effective for the French,
most children in Niger will

The Criminal Code Is Responsible For Controlling Firearms
Canada, like Australia, saw a mass shooting in 1989 that acted as a catalyst for change in gun
policy in Canada. On December 6, 1989 a male, aged 25 went into the Г‰cole Polytechnique de
MontrГ©al (Patel). The male had a 223 caliber rifle in his possession (Patel). One that day there
was 14 women who were shot, and 14 who were injured (Patel). Marc LГ©pine, the offender,
stated to the women as he was killing them that he was doing this since they were feminists and
he did not want them to become engineers since they would be taking jobs from men (Patel).
This shooting unlike any other that had been seen in Canada s history. In Canada, the Firearms
Act, and the Criminal Code are responsible for controlling firearms (Library of Congress Canada

restricted, prohibited, and non restricted firearms (Library of Congress Canada 1). The Firearms
Act is responsible for regulating the possession, transport, and storage of firearms (Library of

King Arthur was a man of secrets, illusions, and tricks, yet he did all of these deceitful actions to
attain his one goal, and that was the coveted Holy Grail. The Holy Grail was very appealing to
him for many reasons, and it actually still has this significance to date. Supposedly, or
historically, the Holy Grail was said to have been the cup that Jesus Christ had poured his blood
into for his disciples to drink at the Last Supper. However, before anyone got the chance to drink
in for the remembrance of him, he was whisked away and interrogated by the Jewish priests. He
then was brought before Pontius Pilate, sentenced to death, and died on the cross. Yet after his
death, one of his loving followers, Joseph, used the chalice to collect the blood that Jesus gave
for humanity. Joseph then proceeded to hide this chalice from the Jewish priests who desired it,
and was immediately arrested and jailed because of this. However, all hope was not lost. Jesus
appeared before Joseph, carrying the cup (Grail) that brought radiance into his dark cell. Jesus
gave the chalice, which would be called the Grail, into Joseph s safekeeping (Ashe). It was in
Joseph s possession from there on out, yet someone got the hint that he had hid it away again.

Persuasive Failure
The most significant failure I have experienced took place in the summer of 2013. I was
participating in the NYC Generation Tech Program, having just finished my freshman year in
high school. In my group, I was the youngest, and all my other teammates were going to be
seniors the following year. We had been working hard on our mobile app, the one that we
planned to build and present in hopes of winning the five thousand dollar prize at the end of the
summer. It wasn t until we had been about a quarter of the way through the process, when we
experienced what we thought would be the failure that would prevent us from winning
anything. After coming in one day ready to continue work, our group leader revealed to us that
our app had already been made. To us, this was the ultimate failure, as we would have to start
from scratch, thinking of an entirely new app, how it could help people, and how we would
build it. Even though we laughed it off, it was clear to us that we were at a severe disadvantage.
All the other groups had solid apps, and were far ahead of us when it came to app development.
However, it was this... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

the one I am most proud of. Creating it showed me that I could rise above any failure that I
encountered, and create something better, something successful. This was significant to me
because once we learned that we would have to start over, my other group members and I had
thought that all was lost. We thought that even if we did manage to create something, we wouldn t
create an amazing app, or something that we thought would win anything. However, our rise from
failure proved us all

Political Action Committees ( Pacs )
Political action committees (PACs) have gained influence throughout political history. However,
their gain of influence does not play a role in their acceptance from political parties. People
believe political action committees influence the legislature. Political action committees raise
money for political campaigns and other political issues. As Elizabeth Drew said, The process by
which Congress is supposed to function have been distorted, if not overwhelmed, by the role of
money. The ability of even the best of legislators to focus on broad questions, to act independently,
or to lead has been seriously impaired. This leads to people believing political action committees
influence political official s views on issues in the government. The increase in political action
committees are said to influence and help the political officials that are going to run for office
again, because they want to get more money from the political action committees for their next
political campaign. However, the supporters of political action committees say they allow average
citizens the right to let their voices be heard in the political process. Another argument political
action committees express is the First Amendment. The people who support certain candidates
believe that donating money is an act of Freedom of Speech. Still many people oppose them. There
is a bipartisan consensus on the dislike of political action committees. It may be said that political
action committees are a

Lutheranism And Calvinism
These are the reasons I believe Lutheranism is better than Calvinism and why you should leave the
Catholic Church and come and join Lutheranism. Firstly, Lutheranism is a major branch of
Protestant Christianity which identifies with the theology of Martin Luther. Martin Luther (1483
1546) was a German monk, reformer, and theologian. Calvinism is the religious doctrines of John
Calvin. Calvin stressed that people are saved through God s grace, not through their own merits.
The most famous of Calvin s ideas is his doctrine of predestination. John Calvin (509 1564) was a
French theologian and reformer in Switzerland. He was also a leader in the Protestant Reformation.
As you can already see, Martin Luther had more experience as a religious... Show more content on

Calvinism, on the other hand, being a more traditional form of Protestantism, completely rejects the
authority of the interpreters of God s teachings, starting with the Pope s. Lutheranism teaches that
the body and blood of Jesus Christ is actually present in the actual bread and wine. That is, when
celebrating the Sacrament of the Eucharist, one can be exposed to Jesus Christ physically by eating
bread and drinking wine. Calvinism, on the other hand, teaches that the presence of the body and
the blood has been only spiritual. Calvinism teaches the absolute supremacy of God. The concept
of supremacy is of utmost importance. God accomplishes all things he has chosen to accomplish
and never fails. This leaves very little for a man, since God knows better. For Lutherans, on the
other hand, a concept of supremacy is not very important. Martin Luther and his followers saw the
main point of theology was in Jesus Christ being given to humanity in the form of Words and the
Sacraments. Predestination is a theological concept that views all the events in the Universe as
having been foreseen by God. Calvinism and Lutheranism Have different views on predestination.
For Calvinism, predestination is of big importance. They state that men can do nothing to change
the order of things as it was envisioned by God. The Calvinists view on predestination is the subject
of many theological arguments and controversies. For Lutherans

Erik Erikson s Theory Of The Psychosocial Development
Ashley is six year old and she is in first grade. Base on Erikson s theory, she is in stage 4 :
Industry vs. Inferiority. Industry versus inferiority is the fourth stage of Erik Erikson s theory
of the psychosocial development. The stage occurs during childhood between the ages of six
and eleven. Children at this stage, are learning to read and write, to do sums, to do things on
their own. Teachers and coaches begin to take an important role in the child s life as they teach
the child specific skills. Ashley told Billy that she loves her first grade class. She explained to
Billy that she learned to count by 5 and 10. Also she is able to read books to herself. She cannot
wait to read the princess book series that Billy bought for her. School and social interaction play
an important role during this time of a child s life. Through social interactions, children begin to
develop a sense of pride in their accomplishments and abilities. During the earlier stages, a child s
interactions centered primarily on caregivers, family members and others in their immediate
household. As the school years begin, the realm of social influence increases dramatically.
Friends and classmates play a role in how children progress through the industry versus inferiority
stage. Billy need to know that, at this stage, the child s peer group will gain greater significance
and will become a major source of the child s self esteem. The child now feels the need to win
approval by demonstrating

Six Seasons and a Movie: NBC s Community
Community has always been a conundrum for NBC. The show, created by Dan Harmon and
produced by Sony Pictures Television (IMDb), has never been a ratings magnet and yet has one
of the most vocal online fan bases. Community follows the path of fraudulent ex lawyer Jeff
Winger, played by Joel McHale, as he is forced to go to Greendale Community College in order to
obtain a college degree so that he practice law again. On the way, he begrudgingly befriends an
eclectic study group that shapes his character for the better. Community has so far aired a total of
eighty four episodes in four seasons (IMDb), and it has picked up a thirteen episode order for the

As they tried to rebrand Community for wider appeal, the writers drew not only on old plot
points Harmon had set up in previously seasons, such as Jeff s relationship with his estranged
father, but on what they somewhat erroneously thought fans wanted to see (i.e. a romance
between Britta and Troy). Though many characters from the study group had commanding A
story lines in individual episodes, the writers tried to focus in on Jeff s character growth in this
season as he approached graduation. The fifth episode, Cooperative Escapism in Familial
Relations, addressed Jeff s tense relationship with his father. During Thanksgiving, Jeff confronts
his dad and realizes that, though he is a broken man because of his father s abandonment, Jeff
does not need his approval to be the better man he has become at Greendale. Episode twelve,
Heroic Origins , focused less specifically on Jeff but still explored how Jeff s previous lawyer life
negatively affected the others before the study group was even formed. In the season finale,
Advanced Introduction to Finality, Jeff embraces his new, more empathetic identity as he refuses a
lucrative position with an old law partner, instead committing to remain the better man he became
in the last four years by working for a smaller firm in order to stay near the study group.
Community in its previous seasons was defined by the nature of Harmon s leadership and
innovation with all his characters; without him, the show stagnated in its focus on Jeff and became
too predictable in its attempt to appeal to a wider

frequently on their phones. Therefore, I thought it would be interesting to further investigate the
hot topic on my own. More specifically, I looked at the types of students who are constantly on
their phone, if the environment impacted the time spent on a device, and whether or not they
were listening to music. In order to complete these observations I traveled to the atrium and the
lecture center. The first location I observed was the atrium. Unsure of where to sit with regard to

Depression Is A Mood Disorder
Depression is a mood disorder that affects every one out of five adolescents by the time they
become adults (Dryden Edwards 1). It does not seem unlikely that people are more prone to
developing depression in their teen years due to the various physical, emotional, psychological
and social changes that occur during this point of one s life. The human body experiences
different developmental changes while going through puberty, causing a teen to have fluctuating
moods. Puberty, along with juggling school, work, sports, clubs, and spending time with family
and friends causes one to feel overwhelmed and have excessive stress. Adolescents fill up their
schedules with these activities, scrabbling to find room to get a decent amount of sleep, exercise,
and eat healthy. There is no time left for the teen to relax and have some alone time to recoup,
which helps to relieve all the stress. So, the teen feels overwhelmed and unable to handle all the
different obstacles being thrown in their path all at once. Often, it may lead the teen to try to avoid
their responsibilities and problems, throwing up one of the first warning signs of depression. Every
human being has feelings and reactions caused by daily life events, but it is a problem when mood
begins to interfere with functioning and completing even the simplest of tasks. When teens moods
disrupt their ability to function on a day to day basis, it may indicate a serious emotional or mental
disorder that needs attention

Christianity Of Philosophy By David Gilson
The Christianity of Philosophy, the title of this essay, is meant to be rather shocking, and more
startling than the phrase Christian philosophy as a whole, which caused little controversy some few
years ago among modern Christians. Gilson conceded to opponents that there could no more be a
Christian philosophy, in the strict sense of the term, than a Christian mathematics or a Christian
physics. For surely not only was Gilson right that philosophy is different from religion in its very
idea, but also as a matter of historical fact there are many philosophies, throughout world history,
that are not at all Catholic or even European.
Firstly, we must define philosophy. The Oxford definition of philosophy is as such: the study of the

Philosophy understood as what is accessible to independent reason is, in its full formalization,
and abstraction fashioned during the Middle Ages, above all by Christian theologians. One
should not be too surprised if the other and original sense of philosophy, as a way of life and a
path to salvation and understanding of how the world works and why humans do what we do
and why we do them, has been almost entirely lost to view. For few there are who consider
philosophy to be a path to salvation, let alone live out their philosophy as such. Nor do modern
practitioners of philosophy who also embrace all such faiths to think of themselves as
philosophers in so far as they do embrace it. Philosophy did not exist like it functioned in the
past, not even in the medieval world that constructed the modern ideals of philosophy. To say
nothing of the ancient world, the abstraction of philosophy was never more than a formal idea; it
was not a livid reality. The livid reality, within which philosophy was always concretely practiced
with rules, guidelines, and standards, was Christianity or some other religion expressly claiming to

Mechanical Engineering is a field that requires constant updating. With the advent of new
technology, growing fields, and an unpredictable global market, it takes a lot of divisive planning

what I need. Choosing the right career takes a lot of careful timing, and it takes a lot of careful
and precise plans in order to create a suitable job prospect. I think that a career in computer

Everything has computer operating systems now including phones, and cars. Everything is
getting smaller, and the world is always going to be accepting of new technological advances in
hardware. In a competing global market it s a sure fire way to know that I would have some
semblance of job security in the future because I would always be in on the creation and design
of new hardware for more compact machines. Industry is going to be technology in 20 years.
Everything that s struggling to conform now is going to be defunct because hardware is
advancing at such a rapid pace. Governments are going to be reliant on technology for means of
communicating with each other and assert global dominance. Every company is going to have
to have a division that includes a hardware engineer because technology is advancing so rapidly,
that even the simplest things are going to include microchips. Hardware engineering is a very good
career choice for me because It s a field that I can most assuredly be safe in. It s not going to die.

The Cultural Change Required For Start And Sustain Lean
Lean is an approach that can be used in every organization to increase customer satisfaction,
decrease costs, improve quality, and increase the output, by eliminating waste and creating value
(Manos Vincent, 2012, p.1). According to (Manos Vincent, 2012, p.2) people are the most critical
element of lean production. People are the soul and the heart of every organization. They are
greatest asset and the organizations cannot achieve the goals without their efforts. The success or
failure of the lean system in the organization will be contingent on the people who perform it rather
than on any tools, equipment, software, and techniques. Organizations can gain supreme results by
considering people as the main asset and invest sufficient time, efforts and in employing and
developing the right people (Dalal, 2011, p.584). This paper will review a suggested plan for
creating the cultural change required to start and sustain lean. It is address the five of the cultural
enablers and the core fundamentals of people, specify the cultural processes, techniques, and
practices required for a lean organization. A Lean Culture Lean is not only a set of tools and
techniques implemented by an organization; it is a cultural change. It is importance to develop a
foundation for this cultural change, to ensure the success of any organization that starts the lean
journey. Manos and Vincent (2012, p.2) defines the lean culture as the entire tools of lean,

In Dan Moller An argument against marriage he makes the claim that marriage seems not to
persevere through the hardships and falls fault to time. I believe with this statement because once
again I can relate to this particular topic to my own life in the fact that I grew up with divorced
parents. According to Moller, most marriages tend to fall through as backlash of ongoing time with
each other s and this in fact is the reason my parents signed their divorcepapers. I also believe an
abundant amount of people in society concurs with this statement considering most people know of

The Significance of Act 3 Scene 7 to Shakespeare s Richard III Richard iii essay Richard the

England between 1398 1485. The plays depict the struggle for the crown and in Richard the

toppled by Richmond. In this essay I will explore how significant act 3 scene 7 is to the play. In

Buckingham answers give me some little breath, some pause, dear lord . That quote shows how
buckinghams conscience needs some time to think about whether he shall kill the princes. I
think Buckingham has a problem about killing the princes as they are only young and innocent.
Buckingham helps Richard become king as he is promised riches, power and the earldom of
Hereford but when he thinks about killing the princes Richard gets angry as he does not want
someone who thinks about orders they were given, so Richard does not give Buckingham the
reward that he was promised. This makes Buckingham angry so he brings an army to kill Richard
but a storm disperses the troops. Buckingham aand Richard need each other to be as strong an
example of this would be when Buckingham spreads the rumours about king Edward and the
people don t say anything but then when Buckingham gets Richard to stand between two
churchmen the people begin to want Richard to become king. Richard wants to have more power

Pit And The Pendulum
The Pit and the Pendulum is a short story narrative told by a condemned prisoner during the
period of the Spanish Inquisitions. The story takes place in Toledo, Spain and begins with the
prisoner describing a delirious state in which he sees robed judges presiding over his sentencing.
Prior to the pronounced judgment, he is overtaken by fear and faints. The story continues in vivid
detail, as the prisoner describes over a period of days, through lingering periods of consciousness,
his torturous entrapment.
As the narrative moves forward, the prisoner assumes he s been sentenced to death. He awakens

death. He realizes he is in the same dungeon, but it is much smaller than he had envisioned. As
his eyes slowly adjust to the brightness of the lights, he becomes aware of a noise above him.
Almost immediately, his eyes catch glimpse of the movement of a pendulum. Entranced and
enthralled by its animated rhythm, he watches in both terror and delight as it swings backwards
and forwards. This fascination soon turns to fear as the prisoner realizes a scimitar is attached to
the bottom of the pendulum. A maniacal terror slowly creeps into his thoughts as he imagines
the sounds of the blade first slicing into his robe and then tearing apart his flesh. Time drags by.
He and the rats feast on pungently seasoned meat. The scimitar swings closer and closer, his
death certain, when an idea occurs to him. With only seconds to spare before the sharp blade
devours him, he quickly rubs the meat on the bandages binding his hands and feet. The smell
attracts the rats who rush in and chew the bandages lose. He slides off the wood plank only
seconds before his skin is perforated. Euphoria fills him at his victory over the pendulum of

Descartes Meditations On First Philosophy
Descartes uses the dream experience and the idea of an evil genius to explain that our senses can
deceive us. Descartes explains that there is systematic doubt meaning our sense experiences such
as sight, smell, touch, taste, and hear can deceive us. However, Descartes explains how sight
(vision) can deceive us, such as our dreams. Descartes goes in deeper to explain his dream theory
in the First Mediation in the Meditations on First Philosophyby saying that there isn t a way for us
to determine whether the experiences in our dreams from those experiences when we are awake
because they are real that they are able to deceive us. This is because while we are dreaming, we
usually are not aware that we are dreaming. For example, dreams can deceive us by experiencing
a visual sensation. Imagine while you are dreaming of being fully clothes with a shirt, pants,
and shoes. Descartes explains the visual sensation of our dreams must have had influence from
outside objects and that those objects in our dreams do exist in the outside world. So, even
though our dreams may look real it is false. The main question comes into play, How do we know
if we re not dreaming now? we don t he explains because if everything in our dreams feel so real

Having children makes two people realize how wonderful life is and how blessed they are to be
able to make a human being that will forever be theirs. Two people became one because of the
birth of their child. They knew their life purpose as a married couple was to produce children
because God has said they are a gift from him that he bestows on married couples. We should

Why Is The Battle Of Hastings Successful
The Battle of Hastings, 1066, saw Harold Godwinson, King of England, defeated by William,
Duke of Normandy. This historic battle was the result of Harold s predecessor, Edward the
Confessor, not leaving an heir to the English throne. This led to over 9 months of fighting between
the four claimants to the throne; Edgar the Atheling, Harald Hardrada, William, Duke of Normandy
and Harold Godwinson. At last, only two remained standing; Harold and William. This essay will

The battle of Hastings took place on Senlac Hill, of which Harold was on. He chose this position
so the Normans would have to charge uphill to get to them. This meant that the Normans would
tire out quicker. Harold put his soldiers in a shield wall, making it harder for William s men to
get to them. William divided his men into three groups roughly corresponding to origin. The left
third was the Bretons, along with those from Anjou, Maine and Poitou. The right was made up by
Frenchmen, along with some men from Picardy, Boulogne, and Flanders, with the centre third
consisting of mainly Normans. William s plan was to use his many archers to weaken the
frontlines and then charge. However, when his plan failed and his arrows bounced harmlessly off
the Saxon shields, he ordered a charge. At his command, all three thirds charged towards the Saxon
wall and engaged in battle almost instantaneously. Many Normans were injured in this clash,
whereas most of the Saxons were well protected by their shield wall. At some point during the
battle, some of William s army, mainly the Bretons, ran away from the battle when they heard that
William had been killed in the clash. William had to take off his helmet

The World s Oldest Profession For Nothing
Prostitution isn t inherently immoral, any more than running a company like Enron is inherently
immoral. It s how you do it that counts. And the reality is that it will happen anyway. It s not
called the world s oldest profession for nothing. Why not make it, at the least, safe and productive?
JEANNETTE ANGELL of A Wellness Perspective on Prostitution
, Freedom, Religion, and More ,
Seek Wellness, Apr. 30, 2005. Prostitution, known as the world s oldest profession, and it exists
everywhere. In the event you leave the country, and go to a whole new country, there is a
guarantee you would find prostitutes. People say that prostitution is wicked because it is a
disgrace to society, and no one should go into that profession, because it can get the prostitutes into
dangerous situations. One instance of this that no one takes into consideration, that the girls or
guys are making money off of this. If they are making money, then they help the economy the same
way anyone is at their job. Prostitution should be more considered as a legalized job. People will
not stop, so why not take advantage, and make laws to help protect the men and women.
Prostitution is one of the world s oldest professions, and laws prohibiting prostitution may be the
oldest examples of government regulation and government (sex) discrimination (Armentano, 1993).
Prostitution also may be illegal, but if you look hard enough in the streets, you can see them.

Creationism, The, And The Intelligent Designers
Is the Bible capable of supporting the idea of evolution? This is a question that tends to leave many
Christians divided between science and theology. Over the years, various views have been formed
in regards to this question. The Young Earth Creationists strongly oppose any mention of evolution.
Old Earth Creationismis an umbrella term for the various ways in which Christians believe
evolutionfits into creation. Within this group are the theistic evolutionists, the progressive

an old earth. The theistic evolutionists and progressive evolutionists believe in both an old earth

There are, however, various views on how these periods of time occurred. One such view is the
day age view in which each day mentioned in the Bible represents an unidentified age of time.
Evolution fits into this view because it could occur within the span of each age. Another
approach is the restoration view, which, although fantastical, attempts to please every side to this
view. This view believes that God created the world and it grew and evolved, but turned evil. He
then destroyed it and it became the dark, formless void mentioned in verse two of chapter one.
From this point He remade life within the week period. Evolution fits into this view because
organisms evolved into evil forms the first time they were created and evolved in good ways once
remade (Eddy).
On the other hand, theistic evolutionists believe evolution occurred just as science believes it has
happened, only that is was God who set it in motion and planned how it would happen. This view
is sometimes associated with a God of the gaps view because they accredit God with many of the
systems and functions that are not fully explained by science (Armstrong).
When arguing in favor of evolution, the aforementioned views are the ones most often used. A key
argument that more closely follows the progressive creationist view involves natural selection. A
major point for the progressives is their belief in microevolution, which is essentially

dialogues in particular, Apology and Gorgias. Using these dialogues as well as references to other

critiques the role of rhetoric in sophist arguments, he does not present the philosopher as free of
rhetoric either, as he himself uses elements derived from the rhetoric he critiques in his arguments.
This will then be argued to be problematic to the traditional conception of the distinction between
the sophist and the philosopher, as well as his overall view of the sophist through his work as a
whole. Firstly, I will consider Apology in the context of... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Instead question me if you can, and prove that I m wrong. Otherwise you must answer me. 15 This
quote is found in a section where he again incorporates rhetoric into his argument. This is another
example of times where Socrates incorporates rhetoric into his argumentative discourse. For this
reason some argue that at times, Socrates is admitting the need of rhetoric in philosophy. In this
way, Socrates is also seen as admitting the power of rhetoric.16 Two more arguments for this
regarding Plato s writing of the work in the context of his oeuvre: the strength of the arguments
presented by Callicles and Gorgias. Gorgias, for example, offers a distinction to separate rhetoric
and other areas of knowledge, which would be a significant detriment to Socrates argument were it
accepted.17 Callicles is also seen as providing a strong argument, and many authors have argued
that Socrates attempt to refute him fails.18 This is also connected in a way to the ultimate outcome
of Gorgias; Socrates fails to persude any of his opponents and ends up confronting Callicles in a
rather nasty manner. These are ultimately written dialogues where Socrates is the protagonist, so it
is interesting that the ending is as such. There are naturally many

Essay Marketplace Changes for Coca Cola
The PEST analysis examines changes in a marketplace caused by Political, Economical, Social and

Non alcoholic beverages fall within the food category under the FDA. The government plays a role
within the operation of manufacturing these products in terms of regulations. There are potential

Economic Analysis for Coca Cola
Last year the U.S. economy was strong and nearly every part of it was growing and doing well.
However, things changed. Most economists loosely define a recession as two consecutive quarters
of contraction, or negative GDP growth. On Monday 26, the government officially declared that the
U.S. has been in recession since March. (CBS Market Watch. U.S. Officially in a recession. Rex

However, because of aggressive action by the Federal Reserve and Congress it will be short and
mild. The economy will return to sustained, positive growth in the first half of 2002.
Future Outlooks
The Federal Reserve is doing all that it can help the economy recover. They have cut the interest
rate ten times this year. The rate now lies at a 40 year low of 2%. Lowering the interest rates will
ultimately excite consumer demand in the economy. Companies will expand and increase use of
debt as a result of the low borrowing rates. Coca Cola can borrow money for investing in other
products as the interest rates are low. It can use the borrowing on research of new products or
technology. As researching for new products would cost less the Coca Cola Companywill sell its
products for less and the people will spend as they would get cheap products from

The Term Global Financial Crisis (Gfc) Refers To The...
The term Global Financial Crisis (GFC) refers to the financial crisis of 2008 2009 that, according
to leading economists, is the worst financial crisis since the Great Depression (Eigner, 2015). The
crisis began in 2007 due to a mortgage market failure in the United States and in the following year,
with the collapse of the Lehman Brothers investment bank, advanced into an international banking
crisis, which then developed into a global economic crisis, The Great Recession (Williams, 2010).
This essay will conclude that that due to private sector financial management, government
regulations and legislation and deregulation were at the root cause of the crisis and give
explanations surrounding this criteria. To gain a detailed understanding... Show more content on

(Woods, 2009) This played a large role within financial institutions leading up to the crisis (Arner,
2009.) The cause of the crisis not only reflects the private sector but that of the government (Kling,
2009.)
Economists believe that some of the most important financial mechanisms associated and attributed
to the crisis were due to legislation and regulatory anomalies (Kling, 2009). Kling writes that one
of the most notable of these concerns the requirements of capital hill that favour securities backed
by risky mortgages rather than ordinary direct mortgage lending. Kling also states that the
emergence of a large quantity of mortgage loans that host low down payments due to the formation
of housing equity also heavily impacted overall on the crisis (Kling, 2009.) Economist Lawrence H.
White bolsters these assertions by associating the financial collapse with the same political backed
efforts to extend mortgage lending to buyers who could not meet the aforementioned standard
mortgage lending (Yandle, 2010.) It is important to not only analyse these regulatory efforts in the

Male Friendship in William ShakespeareВґs The Merchant of...
In 16th century England, platonic, passionate friendships between men were a commonality, and
this was the case for Bassanio and Antonio. The Merchant of Venice shows how Antonio s help in
Bassanio s pursuit for Portia s love is actually his way of showing love. Antonio gives Bassanio
financial support even though Bassanio already owes him money. He especially risks himself by
taking out a bid from Shylockbecause all of his assets are at sea. These actions can be seen as loyal
friendship, but Antonioexceeds friendship by taking a risky loan and putting his life in the hands of
a cruel Jew to assure the contentment of his dear friend. Antonio s actions overstep heterosexual
boundaries by plunging into a risky business ordeal so his friend can charm Portiain style.
The first scene where we are introduced to Antonio, he is speaking to his friends Salarino and
Gratiano. He is a melancholy, distressed character who proclaims I hold the world but as the
world, Gratiano, a stage where every man must play a part, and mine a sad one. (Act 1, Scene 1,
Page 4). This line becomes more important when Bassanio enters, and Gratiano and Salarino rush
themselves away, knowing that Antonio would prefer to be with Bassanio alone. After they leave,
Antonio presses Bassanio about the girl he is interested in. While this is a common thing to ask
among friends, deeper inquiry suggests that Antonio has deeper feelings for Bassanio. Thus the line
about the part Antonio plays in the world

The Importance Of Free Day At School
When all of the children enter the room, they are automatically greeted with the song, The Ants Are
Marching . This will get them excited for another day at school. After the song, any
announcements that need to be made will be said and children will then be dismissed to free play
at the center of their choosing.
This free play time at any center will give the children time to socialize and talk about any exciting
news they have with their friends so that they will be quieter through the lessons that are planned
the rest of the day. During this time the teacher is free to check in on any kids if need be.
The children will know that free time is done once the teacher rings the bell. After the children
quiet down the teacher will then begin to sing The Soap on Your Hands . The children will know
that when this song is sung that it is time for then to wash their hands. Once they are done washing
their hands, the teacher will instruct the kids to get to their assigned seat.
Breakfast will be served once all of the children are seated. Wednesday the breakfast will be
whole grain oatmeal that has raspberry halves, strawberry quarters, and blueberries in it. Children
will wash this delightful meal down with a nice glass of ice cold 2% milk. Once each child is
finished eating, they will put their plates and silverware on a tray for the teacher to take care of.

The Most Valuable Characteristics Of Leadership
Time is running out. Pressure is accumulating. There are decisions to be made and actions to be
taken, but this time Superman is not around to save the day. Who will step in? Only a true
leader can leap into hectic situations and handle the pressure with equanimity. We don t look to
mediocre talent to solve problems, but rather we gaze upon the godly characteristics that a leader
possesses. Finding a leader is not like playing a game of Where s Waldo? , but rather it s more
like watching a blazing firework illuminate the dark sky. The characteristics that make someone
stand out from the rest are represented in something I like to call the three C s to succeed. The
most valuable characteristics of leadershipare confidence, creativity, and commitment. A leader
that possesses those characteristics is as invincible as Hercules. To begin, it is crucial for a leader
to have confidence. Trying to be a leader without first building confidence is like constructing a
house on a foundation of sand, its unreliable and shaky. Leadership is about having unbreakable
confidence to make tough decisions when no one else will. There isn t a manual that tells you how
to become self confident, but it all begins with knowing who you are and realizing that while
success is the main goal learning from your failures is the most important adjustment. Confidence is
developed by trusting yourself to make the best informed decision that will satisfy the needs of
many. Trusting yourself is the direct

that research to help advance plant regrowth. One representative from the foundation said We are

Hyperbole And Symbolism In Geoffrey Chaucer s The...
By simple definition, a miller is someone who keeps a mill whether it is corn or small grains. In
The Canterbury Tales, Chaucer defines a miller as a member of the degraded lower class, with
questionable morals and low manner who is a dealer in grain. Chaucer takes the literal definition of
a character and expands it using stereotypical inferences from the medieval time period. In The
CanterburyTales, Geoffrey Chaucerutilizes various literary techniques including symbolism,
hyperbole, and juxtaposition to help characterize pilgrims such as the Miller. The application of
these devices helps to develop the collection as a whole by defining and contradicting
stereotypes within society. Chaucer uses symbolism to expose something about the pilgrims on
this journey. When characterizing the Miller, Chaucer applies many symbols to define him. For
example, the Miller s prologue frequently compares his attributes to a sow. Such as in lines 570
to 572, And, at its very tip, his nose displayed/ A wart on which their stood a tuft of hair./ Red as
the bristles in an old sow s ear. The comparison made between the Miller and the sow indicate
how slovenly and disdainful he was. Swine are often associated with filth and disgrace, which
characterizes the Miller. Another use of symbolism is found when the Miller is compared to a fox
in Line 568. His beard, like any sow or fox, was red. This connection can be made because of the
way the Miller conducts his work. He is cunning, like a

Rhetorical Techniques Used In The ASPCA Advertising
The ASPCA announcement featuring Sarah Mclachlan is an extremely well known artifact that
vividly portrays images of many different animals. The ASPCA is an organization that works to
rescue animals from abuse, pass humane laws, and share resources with shelters nationwide. The
first scene in the advertisement is a shaking dog in a cage that appears to be sad and terrified.
From the first scene on it is clear that the advertisement has a very sad mood to it. The ad then
fades to text that says, Everyday in America thousands of animals suffer from cruelty and neglect. It
continues with more videos of animals that appear to be injured and neglected. It fades to text that
reads, thousands were rescued last year. The advertisement continues... Show more content on

Pathos is a method that affects the audience s emotions, whether it be an attempt to make the
viewer happy, mad, sad, joyful, surprised, etc. In this advertisement there are a variety of methods
used to appeal to the audiences emotion. The first method demonstrated is the use of vivid imagery.
The announcement shows a lot of different animals that all have been recently rescued. The animals
all have very sad and helpless visages; it is clear that some of the animals have suffered from
some bad injuries as if to display that they have been neglected. This aims to make the viewers
very sad. This pulls at the heartstrings of most of viewers because almost everyone has had a
family pet some time in their life. The viewers feel a sense of compassion and sadness for these
sorrowful looking animals because they couldn t imagine of their pet had to go through abuse or
neglect. Even if the viewer doesn t own a pet it s almost impossible to not feel sad for powerless
animals that have had to go through such torment. This is just one method the ASPCA
announcement uses to make its audience sad. The pathos technique is also employed by the use of
music in this advertisement. Angel by Sarah Mclachlan is a very powerful and emotional piece. The
song has undoubtedly sad tone. The song s message resonates perfectly with the advertisement s
message, and it suggests that the audience can be the animals angels or saviors. Playing Angel
through out the advertisement only further enhances the strong sense of sadness that it aims to
provoke onto the audience. Lastly, the announcement uses strong dialogue to demonstrate the
rhetorical device pathos. Sarah Mclachlan s tone through out the commercial is very soft and
somewhat somber. She uses the word you several times during the commercial, which makes the
audience feel a very personnel connection to the animals portrayed

Outline The Cyclic Nature Of The Sun
The sun produces three types of emissions that reach Earth electromagnetic radiation, solar wind,
and neutrinos.
The sun produces electromagnetic radiation of all wavelengths, with the visible spectrum being the
most intense wavelength range produced as the radiation peaks at this area of the EM spectrum.
The Earth s atmosphere absorbs most of this radiation but light and radio waves are able to
penetrate the atmosphere, as well as short wavelength infrared rays and long wavelength
microwaves. X rays and gamma rays are absorbed by the Earth s upper atmosphere.

Aristotle, a Greek philosopher, believed the idea that the Earth was fixed at the centre of the
Universe and that the other planets were embedded in a series of concentric crystalline spheres
surrounding the Earth. He proposed that 56 different crystalline spheres rotated about the Earth at
different rates. Each planet, the Sun, and the moon were in their own sphere surrounding the Earth,
and the stars were placed on the largest sphere surrounding everything else.
About two centuries after Aristotle, Hipparchus showed that the model better predicted the motion
of the heavens if the Earth was placed slightly off the centre of rotation of the celestial spheres.
Apollonius also proposed that the planets changed their speed through the heavens and sometimes
stopped and travelled backwards.
This particular model of the universe mainly evolved around Aristotle s observational evidence of
the time in which he lived, which supported the idea demonstrated in the model. In this theory, the
motion of things naturally moves to the centre of the Earth and the only way to separate from it
was to have a force applied to the

Ancient Japanese Government Structure
Japanese government structure is typically characterized by three different eras and structure:
ancient shogunates, the Meiji restoration, and contemporary government. Ancient Japan consisted
of independent territories that all fell under a collective rule known as the shogunate, which was
ruled by the shogun. The shogun was the head of the military, or samurai, and he and his samurai
used military force to keep order and peace throughout the various districts or territories. Many
different districts fought for the shogunate, and ancient Japanese history can further be classified by
the clan or dynasty in power of the shogunate at the time. Over time, Japanese government

The shogun Tokugawa was denounced and the emperor was given the power. This resulted in a
civil war that ultimately ended with the surrender of imperial forces in June of 1869. While such a
coup was long overdue, the short term causes are identified as a growth of domestic problems and
the threat of foreign invasions. By showing a united front, Japan could prevent foreign occupation
and invasion. The early years of the Meiji Restoration saw a reformatting of government structure.
The imperial capital was moved from Kyoto to Edo, which was renamed Tokyo (Encyclopedia
Britannica 2015). A constitution was drafted that remains to this day. The economy shifted to an
industrial focus, and there was a rise of western cultural and intellectual trends. A notable treaty
drawn during this time was the Anglo Japanese Alliance of 1902, which solidified Japanese
relations with western nations and increased westernization. As time passed and Japan became
more westernized, Japanese government became more centralized. In addition, the goals of the
government slowly changed, specifically in WWII. Emperor Hirohito, the emperor in power during
WWII, ascended the throne in

Sweetness And Power Summary
Sugar currently is the leading cause of obesity in both adults and children. How did sugar become
such a necessity that people are damaging themselves just because they want something sweet?
Sugar is also the cheapest calorie a person can buy; sugary food has become the cheapest food
item in many stores, but it wasn t always this way. Sugarwas once a costly foreign import, yet when
Europeans developed a taste and preference for sugar, there was no stopping Europes need to
have sugar. In Sweetness and Power, the author, Sidney W. Mintz discusses how sugar was first
introduced in Europe and its evolution from a luxury to an everyday necessity. Sugar was first

At this time, sugar is still a luxury, medicine, and spice in western Europe, (Mintz 83) yet it is
beginning to become more popular. This insertion of an essentially new product within popular
European tastes and preferences was irreversible, though the cost of sugar at times certainly
brake consumption (Mintz 38). Once europeans developed a preference for sugar, they started to
move away from sugar being a medicine and spice to sugar becoming a food. The rise in demand
for sugar followed Britain s increase in sugar supply. In 1660 Englishmen consumed 1,000
hogheads and exported 2,000 hogheads, in 1700 Englishmen now consumed 50,000 hogheads and
exported 18,000 hogheads, in 1730 Englishmen now consumed 100,000 hogheads and exported
18,000 hogheads, and in 1753 Englishmen consumed 110,000 hogheads and exported 6,000
hogheads (Mintz 39). These dramatically increasing numbers in consumption demonstrates
England s dependence on sugar. Although sugar was originally a luxury only available to the
elite wealthy households, as sugar production and industrialization became more refined, the
pieces fro sugar dropped and spread into the other classes. Sugar was used to make new desserts
and sweets as well as used in ceremonies and religious events. Sugar spread all the way to the
lower class as it became cheaper and more popular. Sugar consumption as

  • 2. Who Invented The Airplane Research Paper I had always wondered how the Wright brothers invented the airplane. Slowly I had become more and more interested in flight. Because of my interests, I decided to build a time machine in my garage and take it to 1896, when the Wright brothers first started working on the plane. It took me a year to completely finish the machine. Then the day finally came to test it out. Shaking, I climbed into the small cylinder and typed in 1896. After I pressed the button the machine shook. Nervously and excitedly I opened the door. Surprisingly I found myself in a small town. After walking around for a while I saw two men through the window of a building. They seemed to be building something. Looking through the window I saw the blueprints on the table, it looked like a plane. That was exactly what I was looking for.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... What are you building ? I asked, even though I already knew. They explained to me their whole plan, like how they were going to make it and what they were going to make it out of. That sounds very interesting I said. We could use an extra hand one of the brothers told me. They asked me if I wanted to help. Very excitedly I agreed. It was very hard work ,but it was also very fun. It was also amazing that I got to work with the Wright brothers. It took us about a year to finish the plane. When we were finished, we ran into small problem. Who was going to be the first to fly it? I wasn t sure I wanted to fly it but then I started thinking. How cool would it be to be the first person to fly ! So I decided to volunteer. Everyone thought it was crazy for a girl to be the first to fly, but I didn t listen to them. It was exciting and scary at the same time. No one knew how it was going to turn ... • 3. Persuasive Essay On Nuclear Weapons In the day by day uproar of current crises facing the entire humankind, we almost forgot that many generations are yet to come. Not the individuals who will live quite a while like 100 or 200 years from now, but 1,000 or a long time from now. Personally, I would use the word hope to describe them since we are facing dangers, called existential dangers, that threaten to wipe out the entire mankind. These dangers are not only for big disasters but rather the disasters that could end history in few seconds. Today, nuclear war and climate change are the biggest threats to civilization and are intrinsically linked. Beyond the physical destruction of the bomb and the resulting radiation, the impact of even a small nuclear disturbance could be profound, leading to serious issues of food scarcity. For as long as humans have walked this Earth we have been concerned with one issue, domestic safety. Everyone around the world wants to feel as though they are safe from all imminent threats to themselves and their homes. As technology has progressed so has the threat to our safety as there is never world peace. The only counterbalance is that as threats have become more advanced our defensive technologies and tactics have improved as well. We have now reached a period in which innovation is at maximum capacity and we are also trying to improve and implement new defense strategies. This innovation has brought us to the day and age of Nuclear Weapons. Nuclear weapons have proven to be ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. U.s. Army Signal Corps Essay The U.S. Air Force started its days as the U.S. Army Signal Corps on Aug. 1, 1907, when a small aeronautical division took charge of all matter that pertained to military air machines, ballooning and all kindred subjects (Pawlyk, Canty News, n.d.). The Air Force has undergone some significant changes throughout the years, but it has only done so because it has identified its strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats. History The first plane was tested at Fort Meyer, Virginia, on Aug. 20, 1908. On this date, Lt. Thomas E. Selfridge died while flying with Orville Wright, which was the first military aviation casualty. After more testing and improvements came to the aircraft, the U.S. Army accepted the first plane on Aug. 2, 1909, which was called Airplane No. 1. On July 18, 1915, former president Woodrow Wilson signed a bill stating the Signal Corps an Aviation Section was to replace the aeronautical division. The aviation section was to supervise and operate all military aircraft, which at the time included balloons and airplanes. This section also looked after all the equipment and appliances that pertained to the crafts. The section trained officers and enlisted members in military aviation. During World War I, the 1st Aero Squadron represented air power of the U.S. Army and started with a total of 12 officers, 54 enlisted men and only six aircraft. By the end of 1915 the aviation section grew to 44 officers, 224 enlisted members and 23 airplanes. While ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 6. Ibn Kammuna Examination Of Three Faiths Summary During the 13th century, religious dialogue among different cultures was expanding at a rapid rate (457). With this cross cultural exchange came competing views which vied for religious dominance in both Eastern and Western civilizations. Notably, many arguments in favor of Christianity were spread by Franciscan friars such as John of Plano Carpini, John of Monte Corvino, and William of Ruysbruck. Additionally, scholars such as Ibn Kammuna concerned themselves with the comparative study of religion. As a Jewish thinker, Ibn Kammuna found this comparative study to be particularly important within the context of Judaism, Christianity, and Islam in order to defend monotheism in the East (468). Though the Franciscan friars may have had more at stake in their defenses of Christianity (as a political tactic against a Mongol invasion of Europe, for example), it is Ibn Kammuna s arguments concerning Christianity that are most persuasive to non Christians. Ibn Kammuna begins his Examination of Three Faiths by succinctly and effectively explaining what the major tenets of Christianity are, showing that he is knowledgeable on the subject. Interestingly, though Kammuna himself was a Jewish scholar, he explains the tenets of Christianity in the first person, as if speaking on behalf of Christians: We believe all that is in the Torah ... We are truly monotheists ... (469). After this exposition of the Christian faith, Ibn Kammuna immediately begins to write about the many discrepancies ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This speed makes everything possible updated pricing, the most relevant designs to customer desires, re ordering or stocking the store, and more. Salespeople at the stores use PDAs to send customer feedback directly to headquarters multiple times a day; their PDAs show how items rank by sales (Investile). They try to talk with the customers and find out what they like or do not like about a product, and track the items that are tried on but left in fitting rooms. They also have a Point of Sale system which sends record of products that are sold or returned also directly to the headquarters (Strategic). This data is helpful not only in assessing which products are good and bad, but also what to re order or mark up, how many clothes they need to be shipped in the next batch, and take note of the type of clothes that the store in that particular geographic area sell best to ensure they are sent the clothes that will sell best in that location. Each store manager has weekly conversations with store managers and market specialists. The store managers also send all of their collected information multiple times a day to be used for future designing and pricing, but they are empowered to do the ordering themselves (Zhelyazkov); this empowerment makes for more invested managers who are happier and care more about the success of the company. But what s more, he speaks to them in their language, a lyrical, almost sophisticated form of Ebonics or African AmericanVernacular English (AAVE). The rhythm and rhyme of the lyrics is engaging and compelling, which we see in the afore mentioned lines, jack you up, back you up / crack you up and pimp smack you up. The verb, to pimp smack one up exemplifies the poetic style of street speech. Finally he addresses his audience as his brothers , he uses the word nigga in a permissible context and alludes casually to Huey , a.k.a. Huey P. Lewis, co founder of the Black Panthers. These are all in group markers, which help establish his credit and rapport among African Americans in general and black gangsters specifically. It is for these reasons that he has earned the right to speak to them about these complex issues. Niger has seen its fair share of change throughout the decades; moving away from the control of the French Parliament in 1960, Niger formally declared its independence. Despite this bold act of independence, Nigerwould not see its first steps towards democracy until the early 1990 s, when they held their first open election as a free state. However, even with the empowerment of the people in a democratic government, Niger has seen itself nearly torn apart as a result constant coups, that have occurred as recently as 2010. Such instability has led to incredulous amounts of corruption and poverty, within the Niger government. This lack of stability and constant turnover in government, has been a driving factor behind the lack of resources available for educationin Niger. Although education in Niger is free, the country is nearly entirely rural with an unevenly distributed population. These factors have lead to a lack of schoolbuildings in nearly every part of Niger, and as a result, Niger has an adult literacy rate of only 28.7%; this being the second lowest literacy rate in all of Western Africa, trailed only by Burkina Faso (21.8%). Niger s education system is based on the incredibly successful model of France which consists of: primary school, secondary school and finally higher education. Supposedly, or historically, the Holy Grail was said to have been the cup that Jesus Christ had poured his blood into for his disciples to drink at the Last Supper. However, before anyone got the chance to drink in for the remembrance of him, he was whisked away and interrogated by the Jewish priests. He then was brought before Pontius Pilate, sentenced to death, and died on the cross. • 30. Descartes Meditations On First Philosophy Descartes uses the dream experience and the idea of an evil genius to explain that our senses can deceive us. Descartes explains that there is systematic doubt meaning our sense experiences such as sight, smell, touch, taste, and hear can deceive us. However, Descartes explains how sight (vision) can deceive us, such as our dreams. Descartes goes in deeper to explain his dream theory in the First Mediation in the Meditations on First Philosophyby saying that there isn t a way for us to determine whether the experiences in our dreams from those experiences when we are awake because they are real that they are able to deceive us. This is because while we are dreaming, we usually are not aware that we are dreaming. For example, dreams can deceive us by experiencing a visual sensation. Imagine while you are dreaming of being fully clothes with a shirt, pants, and shoes. Descartes explains the visual sensation of our dreams must have had influence from outside objects and that those objects in our dreams do exist in the outside world. So, even though our dreams may look real it is false. The main question comes into play, How do we know if we re not dreaming now? we don t he explains because if everything in our dreams feel so real and everything right now feels right. While reading I came across a passage From Gaudium et Spes chapter 1 number 48 that stated the well being of the individual person and of human and Christian society is intimately linked with the healthy condition of that community produced by marriage. (Gaudium pg 49) I decided to choice this passage because I do believe strongly believe that God has put a special person on this earth for us to find and once we do we will become one in marriagefor as long as they both shall live. Two people became one because of the birth of their child. They knew their life purpose as a married couple was to produce children because God has said they are a gift from him that he bestows on married couples. We should cherish children and encourage them to the best they can be. This historic battle was the result of Harold s predecessor, Edward the Confessor, not leaving an heir to the English throne. This led to over 9 months of fighting between the four claimants to the throne; Edgar the Atheling, Harald Hardrada, William, Duke of Normandy and Harold Godwinson. At last, only two remained standing; Harold and William. The battle of Hastings took place on Senlac Hill, of which Harold was on. He chose this position so the Normans would have to charge uphill to get to them. This meant that the Normans would tire out quicker. Harold put his soldiers in a shield wall, making it harder for William s men to get to them. William divided his men into three groups roughly corresponding to origin. The left third was the Bretons, along with those from Anjou, Maine and Poitou. The right was made up by Frenchmen, along with some men from Picardy, Boulogne, and Flanders, with the centre third consisting of mainly Normans. William s plan was to use his many archers to weaken the frontlines and then charge. However, when his plan failed and his arrows bounced harmlessly off the Saxon shields, he ordered a charge. At his command, all three thirds charged towards the Saxon wall and engaged in battle almost instantaneously. Many Normans were injured in this clash, whereas most of the Saxons were well protected by their shield wall. At some point during the battle, some of William s army, mainly the Bretons, ran away from the battle when they heard that William had been killed in the clash. William had to take off his helmet ... JEANNETTE ANGELL of A Wellness Perspective on Prostitution , Freedom, Religion, and More , Seek Wellness, Apr. 30, 2005. Prostitution, known as the world s oldest profession, and it exists everywhere. In the event you leave the country, and go to a whole new country, there is a guarantee you would find prostitutes. People say that prostitution is wicked because it is a disgrace to society, and no one should go into that profession, because it can get the prostitutes into dangerous situations. One instance of this that no one takes into consideration, that the girls or guys are making money off of this. If they are making money, then they help the economy the same way anyone is at their job. Prostitution should be more considered as a legalized job. People will not stop, so why not take advantage, and make laws to help protect the men and women. Prostitution is one of the world s oldest professions, and laws prohibiting prostitution may be the oldest examples of government regulation and government (sex) discrimination (Armentano, 1993). There are, however, various views on how these periods of time occurred. One such view is the day age view in which each day mentioned in the Bible represents an unidentified age of time. Evolution fits into this view because it could occur within the span of each age. Another approach is the restoration view, which, although fantastical, attempts to please every side to this view. This view believes that God created the world and it grew and evolved, but turned evil. He then destroyed it and it became the dark, formless void mentioned in verse two of chapter one. From this point He remade life within the week period. Evolution fits into this view because organisms evolved into evil forms the first time they were created and evolved in good ways once remade (Eddy). On the other hand, theistic evolutionists believe evolution occurred just as science believes it has happened, only that is was God who set it in motion and planned how it would happen. This view is sometimes associated with a God of the gaps view because they accredit God with many of the systems and functions that are not fully explained by science (Armstrong). When arguing in favor of evolution, the aforementioned views are the ones most often used. A key argument that more closely follows the progressive creationist view involves natural selection. Using these dialogues as well as references to other of his dialogues including Phaedrus, Protagoras, and Sophist, I will argue that while Plato critiques the role of rhetoric in sophist arguments, he does not present the philosopher as free of rhetoric either, as he himself uses elements derived from the rhetoric he critiques in his arguments. This will then be argued to be problematic to the traditional conception of the distinction between the sophist and the philosopher, as well as his overall view of the sophist through his work as a whole. For this reason some argue that at times, Socrates is admitting the need of rhetoric in philosophy. In this way, Socrates is also seen as admitting the power of rhetoric.16 Two more arguments for this regarding Plato s writing of the work in the context of his oeuvre: the strength of the arguments presented by Callicles and Gorgias. Gorgias, for example, offers a distinction to separate rhetoric and other areas of knowledge, which would be a significant detriment to Socrates argument were it accepted.17 Callicles is also seen as providing a strong argument, and many authors have argued that Socrates attempt to refute him fails.18 This is also connected in a way to the ultimate outcome of Gorgias; Socrates fails to persude any of his opponents and ends up confronting Callicles in a rather nasty manner. In 16th century England, platonic, passionate friendships between men were a commonality, and this was the case for Bassanio and Antonio. • 49. Hyperbole And Symbolism In Geoffrey Chaucer s The... By simple definition, a miller is someone who keeps a mill whether it is corn or small grains. In The Canterbury Tales, Chaucer defines a miller as a member of the degraded lower class, with questionable morals and low manner who is a dealer in grain. Chaucer takes the literal definition of a character and expands it using stereotypical inferences from the medieval time period. In The CanterburyTales, Geoffrey Chaucerutilizes various literary techniques including symbolism, hyperbole, and juxtaposition to help characterize pilgrims such as the Miller. The application of these devices helps to develop the collection as a whole by defining and contradicting stereotypes within society. Chaucer uses symbolism to expose something about the pilgrims on this journey. When characterizing the Miller, Chaucer applies many symbols to define him. For example, the Miller s prologue frequently compares his attributes to a sow. Such as in lines 570 to 572, And, at its very tip, his nose displayed/ A wart on which their stood a tuft of hair./ Red as the bristles in an old sow s ear. The comparison made between the Miller and the sow indicate how slovenly and disdainful he was. Swine are often associated with filth and disgrace, which characterizes the Miller. Another use of symbolism is found when the Miller is compared to a fox in Line 568. His beard, like any sow or fox, was red. This connection can be made because of the way the Miller conducts his work. He is cunning, like a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The first scene in the advertisement is a shaking dog in a cage that appears to be sad and terrified. From the first scene on it is clear that the advertisement has a very sad mood to it. Pathos is a method that affects the audience s emotions, whether it be an attempt to make the viewer happy, mad, sad, joyful, surprised, etc. In this advertisement there are a variety of methods used to appeal to the audiences emotion. The first method demonstrated is the use of vivid imagery. The announcement shows a lot of different animals that all have been recently rescued. The animals all have very sad and helpless visages; it is clear that some of the animals have suffered from some bad injuries as if to display that they have been neglected. This aims to make the viewers very sad. This pulls at the heartstrings of most of viewers because almost everyone has had a family pet some time in their life. The viewers feel a sense of compassion and sadness for these sorrowful looking animals because they couldn t imagine of their pet had to go through abuse or neglect. Even if the viewer doesn t own a pet it s almost impossible to not feel sad for powerless animals that have had to go through such torment. This is just one method the ASPCA announcement uses to make its audience sad. The pathos technique is also employed by the use of music in this advertisement. Angel by Sarah Mclachlan is a very powerful and emotional piece. The song has undoubtedly sad tone. The song s message resonates perfectly with the advertisement s message, and it suggests that the audience can be the animals angels or saviors. Playing Angel through out the advertisement only further enhances the strong sense of sadness that it aims to provoke onto the audience. • 51. Outline The Cyclic Nature Of The Sun The sun produces three types of emissions that reach Earth electromagnetic radiation, solar wind, and neutrinos. The sun produces electromagnetic radiation of all wavelengths, with the visible spectrum being the most intense wavelength range produced as the radiation peaks at this area of the EM spectrum. The Earth s atmosphere absorbs most of this radiation but light and radio waves are able to penetrate the atmosphere, as well as short wavelength infrared rays and long wavelength microwaves. X rays and gamma rays are absorbed by the Earth s upper atmosphere. Solar wind is a continuous stream of charged particles protons and electrons with some atomic nuclei. It is produced by the hydrogen fusion reactions at the Sun s core with ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Aristotle, a Greek philosopher, believed the idea that the Earth was fixed at the centre of the Universe and that the other planets were embedded in a series of concentric crystalline spheres surrounding the Earth. He proposed that 56 different crystalline spheres rotated about the Earth at different rates. Each planet, the Sun, and the moon were in their own sphere surrounding the Earth, and the stars were placed on the largest sphere surrounding everything else. About two centuries after Aristotle, Hipparchus showed that the model better predicted the motion of the heavens if the Earth was placed slightly off the centre of rotation of the celestial spheres. Apollonius also proposed that the planets changed their speed through the heavens and sometimes stopped and travelled backwards. This particular model of the universe mainly evolved around Aristotle s observational evidence of the time in which he lived, which supported the idea demonstrated in the model. In this theory, the motion of things naturally moves to the centre of the Earth and the only way to separate from it was to have a force applied to the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 52. Ancient Japanese Government Structure Japanese government structure is typically characterized by three different eras and structure: ancient shogunates, the Meiji restoration, and contemporary government. Ancient Japan consisted of independent territories that all fell under a collective rule known as the shogunate, which was ruled by the shogun. The shogun was the head of the military, or samurai, and he and his samurai used military force to keep order and peace throughout the various districts or territories. Many different districts fought for the shogunate, and ancient Japanese history can further be classified by the clan or dynasty in power of the shogunate at the time. Over time, Japanese government infrastructure began to shift towards a more centralized form of power... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The shogun Tokugawa was denounced and the emperor was given the power. This resulted in a civil war that ultimately ended with the surrender of imperial forces in June of 1869. While such a coup was long overdue, the short term causes are identified as a growth of domestic problems and the threat of foreign invasions. By showing a united front, Japan could prevent foreign occupation and invasion. The early years of the Meiji Restoration saw a reformatting of government structure. The imperial capital was moved from Kyoto to Edo, which was renamed Tokyo (Encyclopedia Britannica 2015). A constitution was drafted that remains to this day. The economy shifted to an industrial focus, and there was a rise of western cultural and intellectual trends. A notable treaty drawn during this time was the Anglo Japanese Alliance of 1902, which solidified Japanese relations with western nations and increased westernization. As time passed and Japan became more westernized, Japanese government became more centralized. In addition, the goals of the government slowly changed, specifically in WWII. Emperor Hirohito, the emperor in power during WWII, ascended the throne in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 53. Sweetness And Power Summary Sugar currently is the leading cause of obesity in both adults and children. How did sugar become such a necessity that people are damaging themselves just because they want something sweet? Sugar is also the cheapest calorie a person can buy; sugary food has become the cheapest food item in many stores, but it wasn t always this way. Sugarwas once a costly foreign import, yet when Europeans developed a taste and preference for sugar, there was no stopping Europes need to have sugar. In Sweetness and Power, the author, Sidney W. Mintz discusses how sugar was first introduced in Europe and its evolution from a luxury to an everyday necessity. Sugar was first discovered in Papua New Guinea, traded to foreign empires, and later cultivated... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... At this time, sugar is still a luxury, medicine, and spice in western Europe, (Mintz 83) yet it is beginning to become more popular. This insertion of an essentially new product within popular European tastes and preferences was irreversible, though the cost of sugar at times certainly brake consumption (Mintz 38). Once europeans developed a preference for sugar, they started to move away from sugar being a medicine and spice to sugar becoming a food. The rise in demand for sugar followed Britain s increase in sugar supply. In 1660 Englishmen consumed 1,000 hogheads and exported 2,000 hogheads, in 1700 Englishmen now consumed 50,000 hogheads and exported 18,000 hogheads, in 1730 Englishmen now consumed 100,000 hogheads and exported 18,000 hogheads, and in 1753 Englishmen consumed 110,000 hogheads and exported 6,000 hogheads (Mintz 39). These dramatically increasing numbers in consumption demonstrates England s dependence on sugar. Although sugar was originally a luxury only available to the elite wealthy households, as sugar production and industrialization became more refined, the pieces fro sugar dropped and spread into the other classes. Sugar was used to make new desserts and sweets as well as used in ceremonies and religious events. Sugar spread all the way to the lower class as it became cheaper and more popular.
