Women in Renaissance Tragedy A Mirror of Masculine Society...
Women in Renaissance Tragedy A Mirror of Masculine Society *No Works Cited The life of
Renaissance women was not one that was conducive to independence, or much else, outside of their
obligations to her husband and the running of the household in general. Women, viewed as property
in Renaissance culture, were valued for their class, position, and the wealth (or lack thereof) that
they would bring into a marriage. This being said, the role of women in the literature of the day
reflects the cultural biases that were an ingrained part of everyday life. The depiction of women in
theatre particularly, is evidence of the patriarchal society that dominated the sixteenth and
seventeenth centuries. And as the genre of tragedy emerges into... Show more content on

Don Andrea is murdered, and it is at this point that Bel Imperia first introduces the idea of
revenge to the play. As soon as she finds out that Andrea is dead she vows to kill his murderer.
She demands, revenge [for the] death of my beloved (I.IV.65). She immediately vows that
Balthazar shall reap long repentance for his murderous deed . Following the death of Don
Andrea, Bel Imperia s relationship with other men, particularly Horatio, again dominates the
action of the play. Horatio, Bel Imperia s suitor, is the son of Hieronimo, a civil servant;
Lorenzo is the son of the Duke of Castile, and Balthazar is the Prince of Portugal. Once Lorenzo
and Balthazar discover that Horatio is Bel Imperia s suitor, Balthazar comments, Ambitious
villain, how his boldness grows! (II. ii. 41) indicative also of the reigning justice of the ruling
class. Horatio is viewed as trying to attain status beyond his station in life and hereby gains the
spite of Lorenzo and Balthazar. This coupled with Balthazar s desire for Bel imperia drive them
to murder Horatio. Bel imperia pleads for his life, claiming that she bore him no love, to which
Balthazar replies, But Balthazar loves Bel imperia (II. iv. 59) with a simplicity that implies that
his mere desire for Bel Imperia is reason enough for the death of Horatio. These events trigger a

Italian Immigrants Essay
Italian immigrants were not welcomed with open arms into the land of opportunity. They had to
adapt to the new lifestyle without forgetting theirs. Throughout the years, American citizens would
be accustomed to having foreigners living in their neighborhoods. The Italian immigrants
established communities where they managed to keep la via vecchia alive.
The American population viewed the Italian immigrants as an inferior race. People who made
rude comments about Italians specifically directed it to them and made sure they knew. They still
regard Italian Americans as racially inferior dagos , wops, guineas, and greasers. 1 Like most
immigrants that migrated to the Land of Liberty at the time, Italian immigrants were seen as
foreigners to those that were born and raised in America. Particularly, Italian immigrants were
placed at the lowest level of the economy and social class. The American population viewed them
as uneducated people who were destined to be laborers. There were people that despise the idea of
immigrants coming to the United States and there is no space for them. America for Americans
should be the motto of every citizen. 2 They were not needed because they were unskilled and
uneducated. Thus, the American population never sought to treat foreigners with respect. First,
second, and third generations had to live with discrimination and horrible working and living
conditions. Most Italian immigrants had to live in tenements which were crowded and small

The Loss of the Creature vs the Souls of Black Folk Essay...
Walker Percy s essay, The Loss of the Creature describes the experiences that each person goes
through as either a genuine experience driven by own desires, or one that is already preconceived
by experts. Percy believes that people can only learn from experiences that are driven by pure
personal desire, and not experiences already preconceived by experts. Percy describes the loss of
sovereignty as preconceived notions of an experiencewith the help of experts. W.E.B Du Bois, on
the other hand, wrote an essay called, The Souls of Black Folk that contradicts Percy s term of the
loss of sovereignty . Du Bois strongly believes that with the help of experts, people can then learn
what they need to get ahead in life.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Du Bois said that nothing will change in the educational system, thus, the students never get a
chance to explore other than what experts expect and give them to learn. Percy would describe Du
Bois students as simple students who are letting expert opinions control what they do, and how they
perceive information. The expert s guidance help to form [the thoughts] in the sightseer s mind
(Percy, 566), thus, it takes away from the genuine experience. Percy would describe Du Bois
students as simple students who are letting expert opinions control what they do, and how they
perceive information.
Percy would disagree with Du Bois that old time glorified methods of delving the Truth, and
searching the hidden beauties of life, and learning the good of living is through being a simple
student. One cannot be forced into liking something if they are truly not interested in it, but Du
Bois argued that education is something that is necessary without taking into consideration the
students desire to learn. Percy though, argued with an example that, A student who has the desire to
get at a dogfish or a Shakespeare sonnet may have the greatest difficulty in salvaging the creature
itself from the educational package in which it is presented (573). Percy suggests that the

King Island Lesson
King s Island Taught Me a Lesson Kisaiah Wickers When your body tells you no, listen! It was
two years ago at Kings Island and I was with my friends. We were walking to the biggest ride in
Kings Island, the Banshee, which also goes upside down. When we got in line, a sign noted that
it was a two hour wait from this point. So, only two of us wanted to wait, because this was the
Banshee. While waiting in line, it was very hot and I started to get one of my migraines. Just then
we were next in line, so we took our seats. Although four seats were together, we each had our
own section that we were buckled in. By now, my head was really pounding, but it was too late to

The Argument Against Human Experimentation
For the debate, my side was the Opposition, which means that I am against human
experimentation. I think it is wrong because there are people who have died and suffered through
torture. My evidence consists of electroshock therapy on kids, the CIA drugging citizens, and
Japanese research. In the 1960s, Dr. Lauretta Bender began what she believed to be a
revolutionary cure for children with social issues electroshock therapy. Bender s methods included
interviewing and analyzing a sensitive child in front of a large group, then applying a gentle
amount of pressure to the child s head. Supposedly, any child who moved with the pressure was
showing early signs of schizophrenia. Bender was said to be unsympathetic to the children in...

Unit 731 was responsible for some of the most atrocious war crimes in history. Chinese and
Russian subjects men, women, children, infants, the elderly, and pregnant women were subjects
for experiments which included the removing organs from a live body, amputation for the study
of blood loss, disease resistance, and some prisoners had parts of their bodies frozen and thawed.
Humans were also used as living test cases for grenades and flamethrowers. As the Affirmative
would say that human experimentation is good because it has resulted in saving people s lives, and
medical research, but some experiments are just unnecessary! Just because a child might be shy or
have social problems, does not mean that there is any right to electrocute them! Or drugging
innocent citizens or CIA personnel without volunteering to see what effects will happen! And have
it last for 20 years! The Opposition does not agree with human experimentation. I think it is wrong
because there are people who have died and suffered through torture. As the traumatizing evidence
has said, people have been killed, or disfigured through these experiments! Luckily, due to
technology we don t have human experimentation

Descriptive Essay On Gospel Music
As I entered Chrysler Hall I instantly became nervous. Shamefully Mann s World Concert and
Comedy Show will be the first live gospel performance I have ever attended. I didn t know what
to expect. I m not as savvy in the gospel genre as I should be. The only songs that I have heard the
Mann family perform were the songs they performed with Kirk Franklin and the Family and the
popular ones that play on the radio. I glanced around the auditorium and it appeared to a full house.
The audiencehad several nationalities ready to enjoy a night of gospel music. There was a deejay
table off to the side entertaining the crowd as everyone arrived at their seats. The stage had band
instruments towards the back of the stage with a deejay table in front of them. The lights were
beautiful; they displayed various scenes and sceneries throughout the show. First to arrive on
stage was David Mann Jr. He walked out and headed towards the deejay tables that were center
stage. His energy and music selections pumped the crowd up and had everyone ready to party.
The lights on the stage had a party appearance and holograms of a dancer. As the lights begin to
flash a different color I anxiously waited for the next song to start. He played all the family reunion
and cookout party hits such as The Emotions Best of My Love, Carl Carlton s She s a Bad Mama
Jama, Cheryl Lynn s Got to be Real, Curtis Blow s These are the Breaks, Cameo s Candy, Maze
and Frankie Beverly s Before I

Nick Bottom Short Story
Nick Bottom had a rough childhood. He was beaten, a drug addict, and a loser in school. But one
thing kept him going. Smokes. He loved smokes. He even has a saying, a pack a day keeps lung

own. He threw parties every day. A friend dared him to join the drama club. So he did. He found
out that he loved it and he was good at it. So he launched his career in acting. But it never took
away his lovefor menthols.
He carries a pack of smokes every where he goes. He was a wild party beast before he found

This American Life Essay Sample
After listening to This American Life by Ira Glass, I can identify some reasons how it relates to
our Public Speaking class. The podcast is relevant to our coursework because it contains a lot of
the topics that we discussed in our textbook. I think that it is relevant to us as Public Speaking
students because it is full of different ideas and dialect. I believe that this podcast was assigned
for us to listen to because it contains many of the things that are discussed by our textbook. For
example, when Donald Trump is talking about polls he cites his source verbally by saying it was
from the Center of Security Policy (Glass, 15). Here, Donald Trump verbally signals his source and
avoids plagiarism, which is defined as presenting another... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Another example that stuck out to me that was something we discussed in class and was in our
textbook was listening. When Tom Emmer is talking at his town hall and Sue keeps saying that
he wasn t listening to her Tom Emmer says to Zoe Chace that he felt like the people at the town
hall said he was telling them and that he wasn t listening (Glass, 5). How I think this relates to
the book is in Chapter 3 the book talks about listening. The book discusses things like being an
active listener, as well as, critical and comprehensive listening. I think that both Sue and Tom
Emmer were not being very good active listeners and were not listening critically or
comprehensively. Sue wasn t listening to the idea the Tom had that they could not just keep
Somali Muslims out of St. Cloud so she wasn t listening to understand the message of the
speaker and she also was not listening to evaluate a message for purposes of accepting or
rejecting it (Lucas, 49) (Glass, 5). Tom was also not being a good active listener because he got
stuck on the first point that Sue was saying and did not listener to the rest of the things that she
had to say. Granted, Sue wasn t making a very reasonable point by trying to state that people
couldn t legally come to America (Glass,

Escape Lane
Escape Lane is an avant garde jazz record by a creative quartet that feels cohesive regardless the
distinct backgrounds and styles of its menbers.
Trumpeter Marquis Hill shows an inclination for groundbreaking sounds, feeling comfortable in
playing over inventive rhythms as he explores fresh musical concepts. In his latest works as a
leader, Hill has been teaming up with altoist Christopher McBride and the quirky drummer Makaya
McCraven, both longtime collaborators.
Creative guitarist Jeff Parker, a member of the indie rock band Tortoise since 1998, loves to
electrify the air around him with chops that aggregate free improvisation, avant jazz, and stylish art
rock. As a sideman, he teamed up with Fred Anderson, Joshua Redman, Brian Blade, and Scott

There are many opportunities for individual flights, and Parker, now and then, exhibits a
pleasurable folk jazz disposition to remodel his usually abstract modus operandi. After probing
enigmatic paths one after another under the rhythmic conduction of Fournier, the tune initiates a
swinging motion that serves Hill s motivic efficiency, before decelerating toward a reflective state
of limbo.
Introduced by chimes and guitar harmonics, 488 S. Lake Park ekes out poetic drifts declaimed by
Hill, having Florent s bowed bass underneath. Similar meditative tones and ruminations build Une
Petetite Fille Danse Asisse where the trumpeter straddles Coltrane s exultations and Miles cool
vibes.
The title Roughed Grooved Surface is sufficiently transparent to let us have an idea about its mood.
Fournier s hyperactive drumming joins the eerie vibes invented by Parker, who also uses
chromaticism and strident, rapid fire strokes to respond to Hill s intercalation of high pitched blows

How the Charcters in the Great Gatsby Viewed Jay Gatsby
TOM Tom thinks of Gatsby as a home wrecker and a criminal. He cannot see any of Gatby s
virtues, but rather focuses on and exaggerates his questionable behavior (pursuing Daisy and
bootlegging). Nick, on the other hand, sees both Gatsby s virtues and faults and presents them to
the reader from a neutral point of view. Who is Gatsby anyhow? demanded Tom suddenly. Some
big bootlegger? (PG 104) This quote reveals Tom s suspicions of Gatsby s wealth. Even though
Tom doesn t know that Gatsby is involved in organized crime when he says this, he doubts the fact
that he earned his wealth legitimately. Self Control! repeated Tom incredulously. I suppose the

Mr.Gatz s reasons to be proud of his son are proven to the reader. Mr.Gatz repeatedly states that
Gatsby was meant to be great. DAISY Daisy viewed Gatsby as a tool in which she could use to

however, saw Gatsby as a friend and didn t try to use him for his own personal gain. Daisy
would have gone along with the plan of leaving Tom and marrying Gatsby if she had never
found out that he was involved with organized crime. She realized that it might lower her social
status if people found out about Gatsby s proffesion as a bootlegger. They re such beautiful
shirts, she sobbed, her voice muffled in the thick folds. It makes me sad because I ve never seen
such such beautiful shirts before. (PG.89). For Daisy the shirts represent wealth. When Daisy
starts to cry into the shirts, she is displaying her interest in materialism. She doesn t cry because
she has been reunited with Gatsby, but rather because of the pure satisfaction all his pricey
possessions brings her. Daisy realizes that she can replace Tom with Gatsby, thereby keeping her
wealthy life and getting back at Tom for having an affair with Myrtle. You resemble the

An Organization Is A System
An organization is a system. A system s overall behavior depends on its entire structure, not the
sum of its various parts. The structure determines the various behaviors, which determine the
various events. It is critical that you do not break up a system into silos, but it equally critical
that a company acknowledges its strengths from workforce and keep these smaller systems tied
together as one large system. We will examine how the companies highlighted in the team
presentations have achieved this success. Companies can use pay as a reward or reinforcer.
Several of the class presentations discussed the issue of pay. There was a clear divide in how pay
was used. Our evaluation is that the majority of the presentations used pay as a reward. Our
perception is that Park Nicollet (PN) they use pay as a reinforcer. Luthans and Stajkovic call out in
their article, Unless organizational participants are reinforced for their performance related
behaviors, strategies, designs and technologies may have little impact. (Luthans Stajkovic 1999, p.

employees to be actively involved in improvement projects. PN professionals embrace and enjoy an

The Success Of Alexander The Great
Alexander the Great is one of the most successful military commanders of all time. Some may
attribute Alexander s success to his inheritance of the great Macedonian kingdom and military
from his father, Philip II. Although there is no doubt that this timely inheritance was a key
factor in his success, it was his military skills and generalship that gave him the ability to
effectively utilize the groundwork laid by his father. In order to fully understand the success of
Alexander, we must first look back to the influence and success of his father, Philip II. Greece
had been unified under the League of Corinth, so when Alexander assumed the throne, he did not
need to worry about any fighting to the south. Philip took the small and insignificant country of
Macedon and turned it into one of the greatest military powers in the ancient world. When Philip
was assassinated, Alexander inherited an extremely skilled and modernized army he could use to
make his father s dream of defeating the Persians come true (Martin, Ancient Greece p.221). Philip
s reforms to the Macedonian army include reorganizing the structure and the use of troops and
improving weaponry and tactics (Potter, Lecture 13 March 2015). The Macedonian phalanx was a
great improvement over the hoplite phalanx used in Greek warfare because of two reasons. Well
trained soldiers, known as phalangite, wore lighter armor that enabled them to move quicker and
utilize their new, longer spears known as sarissa, which

Imperialism, The Middle East, And East Asia
Large busy markets, snake charmers, carpet vendors, and veiled women all invoke ideas of West
Africa, the Middle East, and West Asia, but all these ideas come from Oriental fantasies from the
nineteenth century. Edward Said the author of Orientalism said that Orientalism was ultimately a
political vision of reality whose structure promoted the difference between the familiar (Europe,
West, us ) and the strange (the Orient, the East, them ). The nineteenth century was a period of
imperialism and tourism that led many western artists to visit West Africa, the Middle East, and
Asia. Orientalist paintings depicted two major effects, many artists often portrayed something
exotic, which was racialized, feminized, and from a sexualized culture from a faraway land.
Another effect that artists mainly like Jean LГ©on GГ©rГґme often showed was an authentic
glimpse of a location and its inhabitants. Nochlin mentioned that many of GГ©rГґme s paintings
worked to persuade their audiences by carefully representing a preexisting Oriental reality.
Imperialism is a policy or practice by which a country increases its power by gaining control over
other areas of the world. French orientalist paintings in the nineteenth century were intended as
propaganda in support of French imperialism, portraying the East as a place of backwardness,
lawlessness, and savagery enlightened and disciplined by French rule. The emphasis on military
brutality in numerous Oriental subjects by

goal is to be the last man or group standing. First, you have to pick how you re going to play;

all your gear, it s time to start moving towards the circle. There s a large white circle called the
Playzone. There is a blue circle that slowly closes in on the white circle that deals damage to
anyone caught in it. The way the game works is that the circle closes in to force players to

you are able to eliminate them because other players will be drawn to you. Just play it cool and

that way you can pick off players going to it if you choose so. Finally, when there is about twenty

Emotional Intelligence, Emotion And Social Work
Emotional Intelligence: Relevance to Social Work
Introduction
In the article Emotional intelligence, emotion and social work , the author Morrison (2007),
stated emotional intelligence (EI) is the missing ingredient that separate the average from top
management or performance (p1). Demonstrating a level of emotional competence in social
work will a help a social worker to perform at a higher success level in the quality work they do
or in the information they collect from someone who is seeking help than a social worker who
lacks emotional competence. They have the ability to make a positive impact above and beyond
their competent colleagues (Morrison, p3). As cited by Morrison (2007), Salovey and Mayer
(1990) was first to come with ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Morrison (2007) believed that it is important for social workers to exhibit emotional intelligence
because it sets them apart from others that lacks the trait; displaying a level of unconscious
competence, expertise and effortlessness (p3). He talked about four different domains that the EI
model measures. According to the article, there are two interpersonal and two intrapersonal
domains. The interpersonal domain gives a measure of self awareness and self management
skills, while the intra personal domain measures empathy and relationship skills (Morrison, p7). It
is great for social workers to be in tune with their own emotions and learn how to cope with their
lives in order to make a difference in a client s life. Morrison (2007) also stated that having an
understanding and handling one s own and other s emotions is a critical aspect at every stage of the
social work task: engagement, assessment, observation, decision making, planning and intervention
(p15).
The second article, Impact of a College Freshman Social and Emotional Learning Curriculum on
Student Learning Outcomes was a study constructed by various widener professors, Wang et al.
(2007), investigating the impact of implementing a social and emotional learning curriculum for
college freshman on student learning outcomes, including social and emotional competence and
academic performance (p1). Based on the findings of Wang et al. (2012), they concluded that

Logical Fallacies And Stereotypes
Logical Fallacies There were several fallacies in the video titled How Walmart Steals Wages
Discriminates including fallacies from Walmart and the people who made the video. Some of
these fallacies are: false cause about discrimination, bandwagon about how Walmart pays their
employees appropriately, argument from authority when the CEO talked about hours worked and

It is easy for a study to be compromised by using a convenience sampling or by only sampling
those who were disappointed with a company or product unintentionally or purposely like in the
case of composition/division. For example is this a wide spread epidemic for all Walmart stores
or was this just a store or two in each state? Based on the map that showed where the lawsuits
were filed, at the time the video, in 31 states but not in New Jersey, and not in all 50 states which
I found interesting. Another factor that could play a role in the composition of those interviewed
is how many people they interviewed and whether they only interviewed those with negative
feelings toward Walmart. If they only interviewed people who were upset with Walmart the results
would be expected to be as they were, but if they interviewed ten or fifteen random people and got
the same response, it would have a better chance at being accurate and not biased. Lastly when the
people felt like they were being discriminated against, were there people of different ethnicities,
males and females that thought they were being discriminated against other than those shown in the
video clip? This also depends on whether they interviewed only people with a

Employee Rights in the Workplace
Abstract Our world of technological advances is growing day by day. So much so, in fact, that
new laws are created to help determine the legal responsibilities and actions to be taken if an
incident occurs. The advantages and disadvantages of monitoring and being monitored will be
discussed. Some of the laws that represent the employer and employee as well as why an
employer would want to monitor an employee will also are discussed. Although employee
monitoring is beneficial to an employer for a variety of reasons, it is better for an employer to
leave an employees private life away from the workplace private.

(В¶6) A second reason would be to track the amount of time an employee spends away from the
computer or how long the employees computer is idle. (В¶6).
If we, as employees put ourselves in the employer s shoes, we would want to know if our
employees were being productive for the job that they were hired to do. If someone were to
perform a search on the Internet for employee monitoring tools, he or she would find that the
market is flooded with these types of tools. In 1993, there were an estimated 27 million worldwide
employees being monitoring in the workplace and that number is still growing (В¶8).
Advantages and Disadvantages of Monitoring Some of the advantages of employee monitoring
are that email use can be limited, viruses can be prevented from corrupting company computer
systems, inappropriate acts and uses of language can be intercepted before any harm is done,
and companies can stop leaks of proprietary information. Some of the disadvantages of employee
monitoring are, as stated earlier, an employees feeling of lack of trust, a feeling of no privacy at
work, and the possibility of employers being sued by employees for fear that their privacy has
been violated. One type of violation that can occur happened to a Massachusetts college secretary
while she was changing clothes in a place she thought was safe. (Kitchen, 2006). She felt violated
because her boss never informed her that she was being videotaped.

writing became popular because he incorporated concepts about change in human nature and
civilization when war and savagery plagued daily life and society.

Unrealistic Body Image
Entertainment is the action of providing or being provided with amusement or enjoyment. People
seek out many forms of entertainment to seek pleasure and enjoyment in their life such as
watching movies and television, reading books and magazines, and listening to music. As much as
these things should provide enjoyment to people s lives, sometimes media can have a negative
impact on people. A major way the media exudes a negative connotation is though the unrealistic

Society has made it a normality to judge people based off of their looks. Culture has been
identified as one of the etiological factors leading to the development of eating disorders. Several
studies have identified sociocultural factors within American society that are associated with the
development of eating disorders (Healthcare). Eating disorders have always been present, historical
accounts suggest that eating disorders may have existed for centuries, with wide variations in rates.
According to National Association of Anorexia Nervosaand Associated Disorders, Genetics,
environmental factors, and personality traits all combine to create risk for an eating disorder (1).
However, epidemiological studies have suggested that the incidence of eating disorders among
adolescent has increased over the last 50 years. Media has shown to have more of an impact with
eating disorders in today s culture compared to past societies (Geary). An experiment was

Into Thin Air Book Report
NON FICTION Into Thin Air by Jon Krakauer What prior knowledge did you bring to the
reading that helped you understand the book? Be sure to choose a specific part of the book to
support your answer. Before reading this book, I had already been aware of the countless dangers
of Mt. Everest. Last summer I read a book about Mt. Everest much like this one in the state that
both were spoken through personal accounts, and both used constant detail to express the horrible
and painful experiences that both authors had to go through. This prior knowledge helped better
my understanding of this book because I was aware of the common occurrences that can take place
while climbing Mt. Everest, and the gruesome circumstances that go with it. During the eighth
chapter, readers become aware of a horrible condition that a character is dealing with. By the time
he arrived at the tents late that afternoon Ngawang was delirious, stumbling like a drunk, and
coughing up pink, blood laced froth (Krakauer 113).... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In chapter 2, Jon gives readers background information about Mt. Everest, and in it contains a
quote about us as humans. Once Everest was determined to be the highest summit on earth, it was
only a matter of time before people decided that Everest needed to be climbed (Krakauer 16). This
quote basically sums up the human race. Once somebody tells you something is impossible, you
are going to try harder to fulfill it. Jon is an example of this because through all of the hard work
and pain he experienced throughout the expedition, he wanted to achieve this goal for himself,
rather than just for the magazine he was working for. Like this quote, there are many others
throughout the book that exemplify perseverance and bravery, which is why I believe that pushing
yourself through extremely difficult circumstances is the overall

Compare And Contrast Nude Vs Nude
Nakedness and Nudity are often used interchangeably. In Nude versus Naked, John Berger
separates them and finds distinguishable differences between them both. He had said that to be
naked is to be natural without clothes and pure in oneself and seen as such, while nude is to be
naked but not to be seen as one s self. All that is nude consequently, is considered naked but not all
that is naked can be nude.
Nakedness is the natural form of undress to be seen as is; while Nudity brings about implications
and accordingly suggests numerous underlying factors that add on to the view of the spectators on
the art presented to them. As we understand the view of art and in determining how one is Nude
and the other Naked, It is of necessity to understand a bit of background on art, how it is regarded
and seen, and its exhibition in the Philippines
Art in the Philippines is often seen as a privilege to only those who are wealthy enough. Most

creation of these objects was a way of life rather than just something made for the pleasure of

Correctional Institutions Case Study Essay
Correctional Institutions have a strict budget. Therefore, implementing new programs is heavily
reliable on how the institutions budget can be relocated to provide funds for the new program.
This paper will analyse the difficulties and challenges one faces when trying to pilot a new
program. The new programis a anger management counseling program that will require $350,000
and two new counselors. However, the program has shown impressive results in other correctional
institutions.
The first hurdle that has to be taken is to convince a senior leadership team to pursue the program,
knowing very well that some of them are sceptical and do not take the program very seriously,
since they think that the program that will lose interest very soon. In order to convince this team
one could show them studies that investigated the results of the program. If this program produced
impressive positive results in other facilities, there would be a couple of studies that supported this
conclusion. One could also evaluate the population of the facility and seeing that it was similar to
the populations that benefitted from the new program, would argue that it is applicable to this
specific facility. Further, one could also look at the recidivismrates of those offenders that
completed the program. If the recidivism decreased it could be argued that this program would help
re socialise inmates and prevent them from returning to the system. The program could also affect

Ascorbic Acid Concentrations Were Determined By Iodometric...
Ascorbic acid concentrations were determined by iodometric titrations of mango juice after being
exposed to increased heat for different durations of time, 3 minutes and 5 minutes, to determine if
the duration of heating of a juice sample increases the rate of decomposition of Ascorbic acid.
Results showed that ascorbic acidconcentrations after being exposed to increased heat for 5 minutes
were lowest. This demonstrates that an increased exposure to heat increases the rate of ascorbic
acid degradation.
Introduction:
Ascorbic acid, better known as Vitamin C, is a water soluble vitamin that is important for the well
being of humans and has the ability to inactivate radical compounds (Righetto and Netto, 2006).
Ascorbic acid is a cofactor that is present in many enzymatic reactions that occur during biological
processes such as digestion, absorption, anti carcinogenicity, collagen formation, cataract
prevention and detoxification (Vikram et al, 2004). Processing of fruits, into fruit juice, often
involves a form of heat treatment which reduces the nutritional (vitamin C) content of the product
(Mercali et al, 2012). Therefore, the purpose of this experiment was to investigate how prolonged
exposure to heat leads to an increased degradation of ascorbic acid in mango juice. The juice was
exposed to three treatments; 0, 3 and 5 minutes of being placed in a boiling water hot bath, and the
concentration of ascorbic acid was determined via titration with potassium iodate.

Organizational Behavior Theory
1INTRODUCTION There are a few factors that determine an individual s well being as essential
as income. Income is paramount to live a sufficient lifestyle for self and those who are
dependent on us. Income is a stable aspect of job to the workers, organizations and the society in
general. Income has huge role to play in determining the behaviors, attitude and perceptions of
individuals in an organization and this can be a major driver of organization behavior. Using
utility theory, in particular the concepts of marginal utility and marginal rate of substitution the
author analyzes how the job satisfaction and wages of family employees differ from those of
regular employees. The objective is to infer that the family employees have more job satisfaction
than regular employees while receiving lower wages. Income can cause both positive and negative
affect work and family balance. The effects of income has not been widely discussed as one of the
major contributor to organizational behavior topic and instead topics such as monetary incentives
and pay for performance schemes have been documented exhaustively. Finally, some (e.g. Lea
Webley, 2006) have argued that the psychology of money is a visceral one, exhibiting similarities to
the effects of other visceral influences on human behavior such as hunger and thirst and, as
Loewenstein (1996) notes, visceral influences are often underestimated by individuals, partly
because people tend to forget how important they were in

The Success Of The Mcdonald s Corporation
Around 95 percent of American households have a television, and with that 95 percent the
average american home will have at least one television turned on for around 7 hours according
to the group TV Free America. They also state that a child will watch around 20,000
commercials a year. But that is just commercials there are also posters and ads on the radio as
well, meaning that you cannot escape the overwhelming amount of advertisements out there.
Not only are there thousands of commercials being seen each year, but also there are certain
ways as to how these commercials are designed and delivered. We give these very little thought
but the companies slogans seem to stick to us like glue. In 1955, a man by the name of Ray
Kroc founded the McDonald s Corporation. He bought the name rights from brothers Dick and
Mac McDonald. Kroc took this small restaurant and turned it into one of the most well known
companies in the world. By the end of 2008 Mcdonald s had grown to 31967 locations in 118
countries. With 58 million customers a day worldwide its hard to not see a McDonalds ad
around. ( James) People know that fast food is not good for the body but if it is fast, tastes good,
and cheap people will buy it. Thats because in this day and age most people are employed and don
t usually have time to sit and eat a nice lunch, so instead they turn to fast food and with McDonalds
continuously growing popularity that is what we think about first if we need food and fast.

During the middle ages European entrepreneurs like the Venetians, imported sugar from parts of
the Levant such as Alexandria. However, such sugar producing areas were in Islamic hands or
were threatened by Islamic expansion and this near monopoly drove the prices upwards. Even in
the face of such high prices and limited supply the sweet phenomenon caught on very quickly.
Initially little more than an exotic good consumed in noble circles, the novelty soon caught on
across all of society, and seeing the ample demand and inherent profits in the trade of sugar
European merchants began, on a large scale, to trade in the stuff finding that they could grow rich
merely on the profits of its export and import. Nonetheless, aware of the advantages of controlling
sources of production as well as transport, many eventually began looking for land on which to
grow their own cane. They began doing this in Iberia and elsewhere but because of the large tracts
of land and the large labour force required for the production of sugar and the lack of these
requisites in Iberia, experiments were undertaken to grow sugar overseas. During the thirteenth
century, enterprising Portuguese and Spanish merchants sought to enhance their share of the
lucrative sugar market by producing cane on plantations they established in conquered
Mediterranean islands. In the late 1300 s and 1400 s the Portuguese colonised Madeira and the
Azores for the same purpose as the Spanish absorbed the

In Gabriel GarcГa MГЎrquez s novel One Hundred Years of Solitude the character Amaranta is

Alchemy The Alchemist
A dream was bothering Santiago, an Andalusian shepherd. He has the dream every time he slept
under a sycamore tree that grows out of an abandoned church. In the dream, a small boy tells him
to look for treasure at the bottom of the pyramids in Egypt. Santiago talked to a gypsy to interpret
the dream, and told him to go to Egypt. An old man called Melchizedek claimed to be King of

Melchizedek convinces Santiago to sell his sheep and go to Tangier. When Santiago arrived, he s

Santiago encouraged him to take risks with his business. Santiago finally became wealthy.

Carbon Monoxide Pathogenesis
Carbon monoxide, which is essentially produced through the enzymatic actions of heme
oxygenase (HO), appears to have as similar biochemical properties as NO. Activation of guanylyl
cyclase produces high levels of c GMP, and this was attributed to the actions of carbon monoxide.
Carbon monoxide acts as a physiological vasodilator in hepatic microcirculation. In contrast, up
regulated inducible HO 1 mRNA expression was detected in the right ventricle in animal model of
congestive heart failure. Increased carbon monoxide levels are frequently found in cirrhotic
patients. Experimental evidence also suggests this substance may be implicated in CCM
pathogenesis. This is largely based on the finding of the elevated HO 1 mRNA and protein
expression... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A hallmark in the pathogenesis is the pronounced splanchnic arterial vasodilatation and reduced
systemic vascular resistance (SVR) (MГёller and, Henriksen, 2008). In this setting, cardiac
pressures are largely normal, at least in part, because the reduced after load protects systolic
function. This circulatory state resembles certain high output states resulting from increased blood
volume and defined as a hyperdynamic unloaded failure of the heart. The distinction is that the
hyperdynamic circulation in cirrhosis is due to the low SVR and increased arterial compliance
(Timoh et al., 2011). Administration of vasoconstrictors, such as angiotensin II and terlipressin,
increases the SVR and thereby the left ventricular afterload unmasking a latent left ventricular
dysfunction in cirrhosis. On the other hand, vasodilators, like angiotensin converting enzyme
inhibitors and other afterload reducing agents, should be used cautiously due to the risk of more
aggravation of the vasodilatory state (Krag et al., 2010). Diagnosis and

It appears that Shakespeare is justifying Macbeth s ruthless ambition and want to maintain power,
which puts Macbeth into darker depths by having Banquo and Fleance murdered, by his lack of
an heir. Similarly, the audience is provided by Snowball as the rival to Napoleon s absolute
power in his introduction to the character in Chapter 2. Orwell tells the reader he was a more
vivacious pig than Napoleon , setting him up immediately in competition His description goes
on to describe him as quicker in speech and more inventive . This is proven when he emerges
later in Chapter 4 as the brave hero of the Battle of the Cowshed after which we see him awarded
with the military decoration of Animal Hero First Class while the reader realizes Napoleon
seems to be conspicuous in his absence. Moreover, Snowball invents plans for the windmill and
Orwell outlines all his creative ideas in his committees and therefore Napoleon clearly makes
plans to expel him from the farm. The key difference between Shakespeare and Orwell s
presentations is that we witness Macbeth s thought processes and plans while Orwell keeps the
reader in the dark yet offers them clues that Napoleon is not to be trusted. It comes as no surprise
to the reader in Chapter 5 when Napoleon unleashes his personally educated dogs, who represent
Stalin s secret police, on Snowball. Both leaders maintain power by eradicating any competition.

Coffee drinking in shops will be compared with coffee drinking behavioral patterns at home, in
school or in the office. REViEW OF RELAtEd LitERAtURE there have been prior studies made on
the coffee industry, consumer behavior of coffee drinkers, store atmosphere in retail coffee shops,
emotion driven choices of consumers, and lifestyle behavior of consumers in the coffee shop
culture. Past empirical studies show a strong relationship between store atmosphere and purchasing
behavior. in store marketing activity, total ambience and feel, in store promotions, all around music
and lighting of the store, all exhibit a strong influence on the buying behavior of the consumer, even
much stronger than the product offering itself. the results of this study indicate that consumers
exposed to different environments exhibit significant differences in their brand loyalty, promotion
sensitivity, price sensitivity and response to new brands. these differences in behavior are found to
be related to environmental attributes such as width of product offerings and promotional activity.
Elements such as lay out, lighting, color and music all serve as powerful marketing stimuli and

Conoco is a subsidiary of E.I. Du Pont de Nemours and Company. It invested $90 million in the
exploration efforts in Block 16, which is in Ecuador. With Conoco s decision to attempt
investments in Ecuador, it faced many challenges. It not only had to deal with the local
government, in terms of utilizing their natural resources but dealing with other domestic and
international groups as well. These various groups all have their own interests and some striving
to protect the environmental, social and various indigenous species as well. If Ecuador
Government were to decide on accepting Conoco s offer and allowing them to enter and drill oil,
it would greatly impact the nation in various ways and one of these ways would be the economy.

Without considering what impacts they will have on the environment, lots of species may cease
to exist or migrate to other areas. The movement will also effect various indigenous groups in the
area, and these groups are seeking to gain legal title to their lands that they live on, causing social
tensions. If they were to succeed in getting the title, it would enable them to have an opportunity of
preserving their way of life that would also prevent others from entering. With the growing pressure
for Ecuador to keep up with other countries in the international markets, they need to look into
finding new ways of sustaining themselves economically. This can be extremely difficult if a nation
s only exports are oil and agriculture production. With increased oil exports, it will greatly benefit
the various groups within the country. Conoco mentioned that they made a plan in order to help
benefit the various groups involved, these plans involve drilling techniques, preventing
colonization, pipe management, and park management, each having a different plan on how it will
help each group. Each of these plans is listed with the various approaches as stated by (Russo,
2008, p. 474 475): Drilling techniques Using diagonal techniques, entail drilling at various angles
from small amount of wells Technique should reduce deforestation from

Football Is A Sport For The University Of Kansas And...
Rugby requires skill, strength, and strategy. Players spend 80 minutes pretending they re not
hurt, whereas soccer players spend 90 minutes pretending they are hurt in an attempt to draw
fouls. In Rugby a small 5 6 player is just as important as a 6 5 gargantuan. People may have heard
of Rugby before or even witnessed a game, but do they really know what it is and how it s
played? My interest for this topic came to me during my first semester at the University of
Kansas, when I realized a club team on the rise. A few of my pledge bothers recently got involved
in the rugby club and have started appreciating the sport. Rugby is a sport that consists of a team
with a mission to score more points than the other, with a similar footballfeel. My process is to
analyze the game of rugby at the University of Kansas and develop a greater understanding of
rugby, how it s organized, and how it s played. Before starting my investigative process, I first
wanted to look at the historical content of the sport. It is believed that rugby was born in 1823
when William Webb Elliswith fine disregard for the rules of football (note that football was yet
split into various codes) as played in his time at Rugby school, first took the ball in his arm and ran
with it, thus originating the distinctive feature of the Rugby game ( Rugby FootballHistory n.p.).
Although Ellis s story is just a belief, the majority of the population agrees on the view. Webb Ellis
is still remembered as the

Women in Renaissance Tragedy A Mirror of Masculine Society *No Works Cited The life of Renaissance women was not one that was conducive to independence, or much else, outside of their obligations to her husband and the running of the household in general. Women, viewed as property in Renaissance culture, were valued for their class, position, and the wealth (or lack thereof) that they would bring into a marriage. This being said, the role of women in the literature of the day reflects the cultural biases that were an ingrained part of everyday life. The depiction of women in theatre particularly, is evidence of the patriarchal society that dominated the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries. And as the genre of tragedy emerges into... As soon as she finds out that Andrea is dead she vows to kill his murderer. She demands, revenge [for the] death of my beloved (I.IV.65). She immediately vows that Balthazar shall reap long repentance for his murderous deed . Following the death of Don Andrea, Bel Imperia s relationship with other men, particularly Horatio, again dominates the action of the play. Horatio, Bel Imperia s suitor, is the son of Hieronimo, a civil servant; Lorenzo is the son of the Duke of Castile, and Balthazar is the Prince of Portugal. Once Lorenzo and Balthazar discover that Horatio is Bel Imperia s suitor, Balthazar comments, Ambitious villain, how his boldness grows! (II. ii. 41) indicative also of the reigning justice of the ruling class. Horatio is viewed as trying to attain status beyond his station in life and hereby gains the spite of Lorenzo and Balthazar. This coupled with Balthazar s desire for Bel imperia drive them to murder Horatio. Bel imperia pleads for his life, claiming that she bore him no love, to which Balthazar replies, But Balthazar loves Bel imperia (II. iv. 59) with a simplicity that implies that his mere desire for Bel Imperia is reason enough for the death of Horatio. • 3. Italian Immigrants Essay Italian immigrants were not welcomed with open arms into the land of opportunity. They had to adapt to the new lifestyle without forgetting theirs. Throughout the years, American citizens would be accustomed to having foreigners living in their neighborhoods. The Italian immigrants established communities where they managed to keep la via vecchia alive. The American population viewed the Italian immigrants as an inferior race. People who made rude comments about Italians specifically directed it to them and made sure they knew. They still regard Italian Americans as racially inferior dagos , wops, guineas, and greasers. 1 Like most immigrants that migrated to the Land of Liberty at the time, Italian immigrants were seen as foreigners to those that were born and raised in America. Particularly, Italian immigrants were placed at the lowest level of the economy and social class. The American population viewed them as uneducated people who were destined to be laborers. There were people that despise the idea of immigrants coming to the United States and there is no space for them. America for Americans should be the motto of every citizen. 2 They were not needed because they were unskilled and uneducated. Thus, the American population never sought to treat foreigners with respect. First, second, and third generations had to live with discrimination and horrible working and living conditions. Walker Percy s essay, The Loss of the Creature describes the experiences that each person goes through as either a genuine experience driven by own desires, or one that is already preconceived by experts. Percy describes the loss of sovereignty as preconceived notions of an experiencewith the help of experts. • 15. The Success Of Alexander The Great Alexander the Great is one of the most successful military commanders of all time. Some may attribute Alexander s success to his inheritance of the great Macedonian kingdom and military from his father, Philip II. Although there is no doubt that this timely inheritance was a key factor in his success, it was his military skills and generalship that gave him the ability to effectively utilize the groundwork laid by his father. In order to fully understand the success of Alexander, we must first look back to the influence and success of his father, Philip II. Greece had been unified under the League of Corinth, so when Alexander assumed the throne, he did not need to worry about any fighting to the south. Philip took the small and insignificant country of Macedon and turned it into one of the greatest military powers in the ancient world. When Philip was assassinated, Alexander inherited an extremely skilled and modernized army he could use to make his father s dream of defeating the Persians come true (Martin, Ancient Greece p.221). Philip s reforms to the Macedonian army include reorganizing the structure and the use of troops and improving weaponry and tactics (Potter, Lecture 13 March 2015). Imperialism, The Middle East, And East Asia Large busy markets, snake charmers, carpet vendors, and veiled women all invoke ideas of West Africa, the Middle East, and West Asia, but all these ideas come from Oriental fantasies from the nineteenth century. Edward Said the author of Orientalism said that Orientalism was ultimately a political vision of reality whose structure promoted the difference between the familiar (Europe, West, us ) and the strange (the Orient, the East, them ). The nineteenth century was a period of imperialism and tourism that led many western artists to visit West Africa, the Middle East, and Asia. Orientalist paintings depicted two major effects, many artists often portrayed something exotic, which was racialized, feminized, and from a sexualized culture from a faraway land. Another effect that artists mainly like Jean LГ©on GГ©rГґme often showed was an authentic glimpse of a location and its inhabitants. Nochlin mentioned that many of GГ©rГґme s paintings worked to persuade their audiences by carefully representing a preexisting Oriental reality. Imperialism is a policy or practice by which a country increases its power by gaining control over other areas of the world. The interpersonal domain gives a measure of self awareness and self management skills, while the intra personal domain measures empathy and relationship skills (Morrison, p7). This prior knowledge helped better my understanding of this book because I was aware of the common occurrences that can take place while climbing Mt. Everest, and the gruesome circumstances that go with it. During the eighth chapter, readers become aware of a horrible condition that a character is dealing with. Once Everest was determined to be the highest summit on earth, it was only a matter of time before people decided that Everest needed to be climbed (Krakauer 16). This quote basically sums up the human race. Once somebody tells you something is impossible, you are going to try harder to fulfill it. Jon is an example of this because through all of the hard work and pain he experienced throughout the expedition, he wanted to achieve this goal for himself, rather than just for the magazine he was working for. • 24. Compare And Contrast Nude Vs Nude Nakedness and Nudity are often used interchangeably. In Nude versus Naked, John Berger separates them and finds distinguishable differences between them both. He had said that to be naked is to be natural without clothes and pure in oneself and seen as such, while nude is to be naked but not to be seen as one s self. All that is nude consequently, is considered naked but not all that is naked can be nude. Nakedness is the natural form of undress to be seen as is; while Nudity brings about implications and accordingly suggests numerous underlying factors that add on to the view of the spectators on the art presented to them. As we understand the view of art and in determining how one is Nude and the other Naked, It is of necessity to understand a bit of background on art, how it is regarded and seen, and its exhibition in the Philippines Art in the Philippines is often seen as a privilege to only those who are wealthy enough. Therefore, implementing new programs is heavily reliable on how the institutions budget can be relocated to provide funds for the new program. This paper will analyse the difficulties and challenges one faces when trying to pilot a new program. The new programis a anger management counseling program that will require $350,000 and two new counselors. However, the program has shown impressive results in other correctional institutions. The first hurdle that has to be taken is to convince a senior leadership team to pursue the program, knowing very well that some of them are sceptical and do not take the program very seriously, since they think that the program that will lose interest very soon. In order to convince this team one could show them studies that investigated the results of the program. If this program produced impressive positive results in other facilities, there would be a couple of studies that supported this conclusion. One could also evaluate the population of the facility and seeing that it was similar to the populations that benefitted from the new program, would argue that it is applicable to this specific facility. Further, one could also look at the recidivismrates of those offenders that completed the program. If the recidivism decreased it could be argued that this program would help re socialise inmates and prevent them from returning to the system. The program could also affect the inmate s ... • 28. Ascorbic Acid Concentrations Were Determined By Iodometric... Ascorbic acid concentrations were determined by iodometric titrations of mango juice after being exposed to increased heat for different durations of time, 3 minutes and 5 minutes, to determine if the duration of heating of a juice sample increases the rate of decomposition of Ascorbic acid. Results showed that ascorbic acidconcentrations after being exposed to increased heat for 5 minutes were lowest. This demonstrates that an increased exposure to heat increases the rate of ascorbic acid degradation. Introduction: Ascorbic acid, better known as Vitamin C, is a water soluble vitamin that is important for the well being of humans and has the ability to inactivate radical compounds (Righetto and Netto, 2006). Ascorbic acid is a cofactor that is present in many enzymatic reactions that occur during biological processes such as digestion, absorption, anti carcinogenicity, collagen formation, cataract prevention and detoxification (Vikram et al, 2004). Processing of fruits, into fruit juice, often involves a form of heat treatment which reduces the nutritional (vitamin C) content of the product (Mercali et al, 2012). Therefore, the purpose of this experiment was to investigate how prolonged exposure to heat leads to an increased degradation of ascorbic acid in mango juice. The juice was exposed to three treatments; 0, 3 and 5 minutes of being placed in a boiling water hot bath, and the concentration of ascorbic acid was determined via titration with potassium iodate. ... • 29. Organizational Behavior Theory 1INTRODUCTION There are a few factors that determine an individual s well being as essential as income. Income is paramount to live a sufficient lifestyle for self and those who are dependent on us. Income is a stable aspect of job to the workers, organizations and the society in general. Income has huge role to play in determining the behaviors, attitude and perceptions of individuals in an organization and this can be a major driver of organization behavior. Using utility theory, in particular the concepts of marginal utility and marginal rate of substitution the author analyzes how the job satisfaction and wages of family employees differ from those of regular employees. The objective is to infer that the family employees have more job satisfaction than regular employees while receiving lower wages. Income can cause both positive and negative affect work and family balance. The effects of income has not been widely discussed as one of the major contributor to organizational behavior topic and instead topics such as monetary incentives and pay for performance schemes have been documented exhaustively. Finally, some (e.g. Lea Webley, 2006) have argued that the psychology of money is a visceral one, exhibiting similarities to the effects of other visceral influences on human behavior such as hunger and thirst and, as Loewenstein (1996) notes, visceral influences are often underestimated by individuals, partly because people tend to forget how important they were in ... During the middle ages European entrepreneurs like the Venetians, imported sugar from parts of the Levant such as Alexandria. However, such sugar producing areas were in Islamic hands or were threatened by Islamic expansion and this near monopoly drove the prices upwards. Even in the face of such high prices and limited supply the sweet phenomenon caught on very quickly. Initially little more than an exotic good consumed in noble circles, the novelty soon caught on across all of society, and seeing the ample demand and inherent profits in the trade of sugar European merchants began, on a large scale, to trade in the stuff finding that they could grow rich merely on the profits of its export and import. Nonetheless, aware of the advantages of controlling sources of production as well as transport, many eventually began looking for land on which to grow their own cane. They began doing this in Iberia and elsewhere but because of the large tracts of land and the large labour force required for the production of sugar and the lack of these requisites in Iberia, experiments were undertaken to grow sugar overseas. During the thirteenth century, enterprising Portuguese and Spanish merchants sought to enhance their share of the lucrative sugar market by producing cane on plantations they established in conquered Mediterranean islands. A hallmark in the pathogenesis is the pronounced splanchnic arterial vasodilatation and reduced systemic vascular resistance (SVR) (MГёller and, Henriksen, 2008). This circulatory state resembles certain high output states resulting from increased blood volume and defined as a hyperdynamic unloaded failure of the heart. The distinction is that the hyperdynamic circulation in cirrhosis is due to the low SVR and increased arterial compliance (Timoh et al., 2011). Administration of vasoconstrictors, such as angiotensin II and terlipressin, increases the SVR and thereby the left ventricular afterload unmasking a latent left ventricular dysfunction in cirrhosis.
