A Blended Profession Essay
INTRODUCTION
To begin, we need to acknowledge that sport plays an important position in the lives of many people
around the world today. Sport is not confined to specific boundaries as there are many different fields
that sport may permeate itself into. These fields include the sporting and economic sectors, sport
sciences as well as the practical and athletic professionals who participate in these fields (Refacuk,
2017). Undoubtedly we cannot ignore the field of sport coaching as a profession, responsible for
teaching and mentoring. In this essay, I will define the concept of a blended profession and what
ideologies rotate around how a blended professional should be acknowledged as well as how this
integrates into the ICCE and SASCOC framework ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The Legalization Of Drugs Should Be Legal
The legalization of drugs has been an issue in society for quite a long time. People who are for and
against the legalization of drugs can be very opinionated in their beliefs. Often times, some of these
people on both sides of the argument can even be considered extremists. These disagreements vary
quite a bit across the spectrum. Milton Friedman, someone who is for the legalization of drugs, argues
that A user must associate with criminals to [sic] get the drugs, and many are driven to become
criminals themselves . . . (569). On the contrary, drugs can cause very serious health problems and due
to their destructive nature, they can destroy not only the user, but their family and loved ones as well.
Milton s point reinforces the idea to make drugs legal. However, to make drugs legal can have serious
problems. Health concerns, for instance, can be a major factor if we decide to legalize drugs. There are
also major benefits to make drugs illegal. I stand against the idea to make drugs legal; it can lead to
harmful consequences and regret. My friend who had tried marijuana for the first time, did not have a
satisfying experience afterward. He had non stop panic attacks, which made him worry about
everything. Almost any kind of drug can have adverse effects on people which are major health
concerns to worry about. Pregnant women that use drugs like cocaine or heroin have already hindered
or even caused death to the life of their child. Children exposed to drugs in

The Themes Of Friendship And War In A Separate Peace
The themes in stories are very crucial when it comes to understanding the truth behind a book or story.
In A Separate Peace the two themes that stand out the most are friendship and war, but not the kind of
war you would think. Not one shot was fired, nor was anyone killed but rather the war on their hearts
and minds. I chose these two themes because they go hand in hand in a way. Most people have that
one friend that they love to death, but they can sometimes become jealous or annoyed of that friend
and want to punch them in the face. This represents friendship and war at the same time. Throughout
this essay I will provide examples of Finny and Gene s friendship as well as the inner war they shared
with one another. In A Separate Peace, Gene ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The friendship between Gene and Phineas is probably the most important theme throughout the novel.
The boys friendship at the beginning of the story is strong, but as the story goes on and Gene s
jealousy towards Finny grows their friendship becomes weaker and weaker. They have always loved
friendly competition, but when Finny starts to gain popularity and beat records, their competitiveness
becomes not so friendly. Gene feels that their friendship is not equal and that Finny is better than him
which causes complications. Once Finny breaks his leg he is no longer able to play sports, so he
teaches Gene how to play in order to live through him in a way. After Finny breaks his leg he tells
Gene, Listen, pal, if I can t play sports, you re going to play them for me, and I lost part of myself to
him then, and a soaring sense of freedom revealed that this must have been my purpose from the first:
to become a part of Phineas (Knowles 43). Because Gene is jealous and wants to be more like Finny
he goes along with it in hopes of gaining popularity and being an equal with Finny. Through this the
boys become codependent of one another because Gene is trying to be like Finny, and Finny wants
Gene to be like him since he can t participate in what he loves

Boston Tea Party
The events that lead up to the war were the Boston Tea Party, Boston Massacre, and the Stamp Act.
The Boston Tea Party was an event about Samuel Adams and the Sons of Liberty going on ships and
dumping 342 chests of tea in the sea. They did that because they did not like the Tea Act and the taxes
of the tea that the British made. I think that the since the people who didn t like the taxes and Tea Act,
they made the right decision dumping the tea. It was called the Boston Tea Party because of the tea
dumping happening during that time. The group that dumped the tea disguised as Mohawk Indians in
order to go do the tea dumping. I also think that when they disguised as Mohawk Indians, they
probably did that because no one would realize who their ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
After the first gunshot had hit nobody shot right away, it was after that the gunshots had been made by
the soldiers. It took place in the year of 1770 of March 5 and killed 5 people total. I also think that the
5 people that were killed, who were those people s names and were they important? The Boston
Massacre was called that because they wanted to make it a propaganda and some people wanted to
make a big deal out of it. A propaganda is basically a rumor that spreads and becomes known. I think
that when they called it a propaganda and wanted to spread the news, everyone around must have
gotten to know it quickly because they wanted to make it a big thing. There were also two separate
trials that lasted two days. The trials were about both, the soldiers and James Preston being accused of
murder or they were being questioned about what had happened during the massacre. One was for the
soldiers and the other for James Preston, a captain for the British soldiers. In the trials, how people
were there in each trial? The Boston Massacre was took place east of The Old State House. The Old
State House was the Britain Headquarters where the taxes went after the trade goods were paid and
gathered. They chose to protest there, because it was the Britain headquarters. The Britain
Headquarters were probably very important for them to have the massacre there. The Old State Town
House was North East of

Markets And International Monetary Fund
Markets Want Greece in the Eurozone The fickleness of financial markets is a constant source of both
frustration and amazement, particularly in the Eurozone. Having started last week concerned about the
ramifications of a resounding No vote in Greece s referendum about bailout terms imposed by the
Troika, there was a strong rally in anticipation of deal eventually being signed between Greece and her
creditors. Markets have, therefore, seemingly taken the view that the best known outcome is for
Greece to remain in the single currency, regardless of the imperfections of any agreement. In the
absence of substantial debt write downs, however, the situation facing Greece remains dire. Both the
US and International Monetary Fund (IMF) have ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Thus, this highlights the utter hypocrisy of the current negotiations surrounding Greece: both France
and Germany, in fact, conveniently ignored the rules for the fiscal convergence criteria when it suited
them. Neither country was sanctioned in a major way. France could well find itself in the firing line if
it fails to prevent a Greek exit from the single currency. The sustainability of the current membership
of euro has, therefore, not been laid to rest. Understanding Events in China Events in China took on a
new level of intensity last week as the authorities attempted to stabilise the equity market. The
weakness appears to be event drive as opposed to being the result of economic malaise. In fact, recent
economic data out of China suggests that recent stimulus measures appear to have had some traction.
The event in question appears to be a large margin call being made by one of the main regulatory
authorities. Recently, I mentioned that margin debt as a percentage of GDP was a relatively high 8%.
The problem facing the authorities was sourcing where the trouble was emanating from. Margin debt
can be originated from two sources: 1) licensed brokers, and 2) the so called grey market within the
shadow banking system. The origination split is roughly 50/50 between the two sectors. This is where
the similarities end. At licensed brokers, margin credit can only be extended for up

Military Planner Experience
I have supervised dozens of military planners in my 14 years of Army experience. Matt was the best
planner that I supervised. My supervisor evaluated him as the #1 staff officer out of a pool of 20
planners on his staff. In less than 4 months on the staff, Matt was promoted to a leadership position
managing 100 other Soldiers, some of which outrank him in experience and seniority. There are two
vivid examples of his talent and performance that I want to highlight.
As a military engineer, Matt was responsible for the long term management of facilities within the
organization s portfolio. One of the facilities reached the end of its lifecycle and Matt had to convince
senior military officers on several unpopular alternatives. In the end, using

minority; decisions on the boundaries and powers of internal political subunits. Some liberal
democratic states engaged in redrawing boundaries which are within the confinement of liberalism
and the liberal state, but encroaches the rights of national minorities. The central states draw
boundaries to disempower national minorities. For instance, a minority s territory are divided into
several units to make cohesive political action impossible. For example, the division of France into 83
departments after the Revolution, which intentionally subdivided the historical regions of the Basques,
Bretons, and other linguistic minorities; or the division of Catalonia region in Spain. 3) Language

adopted as official or de facto official language where it is used in government, bureaucracy, courts,
schools, and business. While there are exceptions to this many liberal democratic states allow for
multilingualism yet the policies related to language should be more robustly clarified within the
human rights creed of democratic liberalism. Because the human rights creed adopted by several

The Impact Of Urban Population And The Current Causes...
The last century has been characterized by the rapid growth of the urban areas which is likely to be
one of the milestones in the current ages. Also known as the urbanization, this process, is defined by
the unprecedented rural population shift to the cities which stems from the Modern period as a result
of the Industrial Revolution. However, nowadays, the key aspect is the universal nature of such, issue t
has an effect on an exceptional transformation on a global scale causing a drastic impact on the social,
economic, cultural and political patterns. It is a widely held the opinion that one of the main
challenges of this century is to clarify the origin and identify which are the sociodemographic factor
that negatively impact on the urban population and the current causes social segregation. Regarding
the recent academic research in human geography field, can be possible to associate this social
segregation with the gentrification . Thus, the gentrification can be defined as the dynamic process
that displaces the local and low income population of the district due to the urban revitalization of the
area. Exploration of the social segregation in the Australian context (Melbourne and Sydney), might
be the main purpose of this research. The analysis of the gentrification process is studied in order to
find out what are the negative impacts on the population. Therefore, the research question might focus
on the issue of the social transformation. Thus, the findings can

Destruction of the American Dream in Arthur Miller s Death of A Salesman
A white picket fence surrounds the tangible icons of the American Dreams in the middle 1900 s: a
mortgage, an automobile, a kitchen appliance paid for on the monthly installment plan, and a silver
trophy representative of high school football triumph. A pathetic tale examining the consequences of
man s harmartias, Arthur Miller s Death of A Salesman satisfies many, but not all, of the essential
elements of a tragedy. Reality peels away the thin layers of Willy Loman s American Dream; a dream
built on a lifetime of poor choices and false values.
Although the characters are not of noble birth nor possess a heroic nature nor experience a reversal of

For Biff, the idea of success is an easy loan from an ex employer he has stolen from; for Hap, success
is obtaining a promotion by waiting for the merchandise manager to die. Inevitably, the Loman s
unrealistic idea about success is one of the steps in their downfall.
Equally as damaging, the Loman family lacks the ability to make the necessary and suitable choices to
pursue the American Dream. Although Willy is skillful with his hands and believes a man who can t
handle tools is disgusting, he chooses a lifetime career as a salesman, based on the fanciful image of
his father who abandoned Willy as a child and on the image of an 84 year old salesman who dies alone
in a train car to Boston. Willy takes pride in the craftsmanship he put into their house, yet believes a
salesman such as his father is better than a carpenter. Furthermore, he questions the purpose of
building because some stranger ll come along, move in, and that s that. Ironically, Willy is a better
carpenter than a salesman. He boasts on what an impact he makes on his clients, but in reality one of
the reasons he has a sexual rendezvous with a secretary is to get through to the buyers. Willy makes
another poor choice because of his hubris, or false pride, when he turns down Charley s job offer.
Similarly, false pride and the inability to make appropriate choices lead to Hap and Biff choosing
unsuitable occupations.

Bring Back Flogging By Jeff Jacoby
An Analysis for Bring Back Flogging
In the essay written by Jeff Jacoby in Bring back Flogging The article is about how our prisons are
over populated with people that are in there because of the none violence crime, which make the
inmates to have higher chance of getting rape, beaten, or murder rather than getting whipped and
embarrassment in public, that could help them to make better choice in the future and also teaches the
public to behave the way that is acceptable in the society. Plus the cost that is associated with these
inmates to keep them in prison that cost the tax payers millions of dollars every year.
Jeff Jacoby uses a lot of his own opinion, in some instances he used what John Dilulio, who is a

What Gatchel says makes a lot of sense, that states being under budget for the prisons due to the over
population and since the income of a prison comes from tax payers, there is only so much that jails
can take to take care of the inmates. What he is suggesting is why not going back to the old school
ways of dealing with nonviolent crime, which costs a lot less than $30,000 a year to just whippet
someone.
I come from a country that they still handle small criminals the old ways, and big time criminals are
the only people that end up in jail, therefore when it comes to budgeting at the beginning of the year,
the country has more money to invest towards the people, rather than the criminals that are part of the
noncontributing part of the society.
The opposing issue that I can think of would be that some people might say that it is a cruel way to
treat someone when you degrade them in public, but what they don t realize is that when people

Relationship Between Growth Opportunities And Amount Of...
relationship can be observed by comparing the small companies, where SOCO has $0.8bn retained
earnings and zero debt, while JKX has almost $0.4bn and some debt in their capital structure.
4.3. Growth Empirical studies suggest a negative relationship between growth opportunities and
amount of leverage. The market to book ratio (calculated as market value of equity over book value of
equity) is used as proxy of the growth opportunities available to a firm (Niu, 2008).
Growth opportunities are mainly intangible and thus not suited to serve as collateral or to be
liquidated. Hence firms with high growth potential might not prefer, or not even be offered, to raise
additional capital through debt financing (Jensen and Meckling, 1976).
Furthermore, due to agency conflicts, managers of companies with high leverage (debt controlled)
may forgo positive NPV projects, because the returns of such project will be transferred to debt
holders rather than shareholders. Therefore, highly leveraged companies might have low amount of
investment opportunities and thus a lower growth rate (Myers, 1984).
Rajan and Zingales (1995) support this inverse relationship and suggest, that firms with high market to
book ratios suffer under higher bankruptcy costs. The shares of such companies are overvalued and
thus the company may prefer issuing stock. This equity may be raised at lower costs, due to the
signals that a high market to book ratio is sending to the market. Therefore firms with a high

the fanatic that obsesses over revenge, making it the sole purpose of his life. When finds out that his
wife, Hester, has committed adultery against him, Chillingworth decides to cast his anger on the

One example of a traditional family depicted on television is Lois and Peter Griffin from Family Guy.

shown taking care of the baby or doing any housework. Some of the benefits they receive from this
family structure is getting to spend more time with their child while also not paying a day care and the
housework being done. The experiences the Griffins go through on a daily basis do support my initial
opinion on the ideal family structure. Now a days

Computer Fraud And Identity Theft
Abstract
In today s world where computers, cellular phones, wireless internet connections and electronic
transactions are common place norms, maintaining ones identity can be a challenge. In 2012 the
United States population was 314.1 million people, in the same year, 75.6 percent of households
reported having a computer. (Government Census, 2012) With this high population and electronic use,
one could extrapolate that there is high risk for computer fraud and identity theft. For example
consider these statistics in 2013, identity theft complaints accounted for 14% of all complaints. The
most common form of reported identity theft was government documents/benefits fraud, 34%,
followed by credit card fraud, 17%, phone or utilities fraud, 14%, and bank fraud, 8%. Forty one
percent of identity theft complainants reported whether they contacted law enforcement. Of those
victims, 74% notified a police department and 61% indicated a report was taken. (Government
Census, 2012) There are many ways to counter identity theft, some being not to give out personal data
or to make sure to properly destroy/secure all important documentation. These methods of protection
seem quite feasible and often time practical, however with the rate at which identity theft occurs the
validity of these protections might come into question. Therefore this research proposal begs the
questions of how effective are these counter measures, to what degree are the counter measures
followed by the victims, and

The Fools in Twelfth Night Essay
The Fools of Twelfth Night
It is not unusual that the fool should be a prominent figure and make an important contribution in
forming the confusion and the humor in an Elizabethan drama. In William Shakespeare s comedy,
Twelfth Night, Feste the clown is not the only fool who is subject to foolery. He and many other
characters combine their silly acts and wits to invade other characters that either escape reality or live
a dream. In Twelfth Night, Feste, Maria and Sir Toby are the fools that make the comedy work in
many senses.
In Shakespeare s Twelfth Night, Feste s role in this Illyrian comedy is significant because Illyria is a
country permeated with the spirit of the Feast of Fools, where identities are ... Show more content on

Although he does not make any profound remarks, he seems to be the wisest person of all the
characters in the comedy. Viola remarks this by saying, This fellow s wise enough to play the fool
(III.i.61). Since Feste is a licensed fool, his main role in Twelfth Night is to speak the truth. This is
where the humor lies, his truthfulness. In one example he proves Olivia to be a true fool by asking her
what she was mourning about. The point Feste tried to make was that Olivia was mourning for a
person whose soul is in heaven.
CLOWN: Good Madonna, why mourn st thou?
OLIVIA: Good Fool, for my brother s death.
CLOWN: I think his soul is in hell, Madonna.
OLIVIA: I know his soul is in heaven, fool.
CLOWN: The more fool, Madonna, to mourn for your brother s soul, being in heaven. Take away the
fool, gentlemen (act #, scene #, line 3).
Adding to the humor of the comedy, Feste dresses up as Sir Topaz, the curate and visits the imprisoned
Malvolio with Maria and Sir Toby. There he uses his humor to abuse Malvolio who is still unaware
that he is actually talking to the clown rather than to the real Sir Topaz. Feste (disguised as Sir Topaz)
calls Malvolio a lunatic (IV.ii.23), Satan (IV.ii.32) and confuses him by wittingly making him a fool.
Throughout the play, Malvolio has always been the person who intentionally spoils the pleasure of
other people. He is Feste s worst nightmare in the play, but in

Sydney Carton Essay
Sydney Carton is very important to the plot of A Tale of Two Cities. There are three separate instances
in this book where Carton keeps the plot going, and without him, the story would have ended. The
first was his similarity to Charles Darnay was keeping Darnay out of jail. Without Carton, Mr. Stryver
would not be able to win his cases because Sydney is the brains behind the operation. Finally, he was
executed instead of Darnay, so that Darnay and Lucie could live out their lives together. The first we
hear of Carton is at Charles Darnay s first trial. Charles is on trial for spying on England for France.
Mr. Stryver is Darnay s lawyer and has done almost nothing to help the case, but just as it seems it is
over for Charles, Stryver uses his final defense: Charles Darnay looks exactly like Sydney Carton. At
this time in history, trials were not just at all. Often times public opinion was enough to sentence
someone to death. Just before it seemed like Charles would be convicted, Carton hands Stryver a note,

Carton also delivers one of the most iconic lines in the history of literature: It is a far, far better thing
that I do, than I have ever done; it is a far, far better rest that I go to than that I have ever known. This

never before made a sacrifice for anyone except himself. In the second half of the quote, he says that
he has never truly known peace in his life, but in his sacrifice he is able to find this peace. Carton is
often viewed as an insignificant side character, but Dickens masterfully weaves characters in
throughout the plot so that each and every character, especially Carton, is necessary to the

The High Cost Of Manliness By Jensen Summary
The High Cost of Manliness
1. Jensen sees the negative consequences of masculinity as men taking advantage of their manliness.
Some men show their manliness in a negative way, like being violent to achieve their desires rather
than looking for other ways to compromise. They like being in control and taking charge rather than
understanding and deciding on an agreement. It can sometimes be threatening to women and make
them feel powerless.
2. In paragraph 10 and 11, Jensen talks about many differences between men and women one of which
is their physical differences. Their body mass index differentiates and so does their hormones. A man
would have more muscle so they tend to be way stronger than a woman. They also have varying levels
of different hormones. Jensen also mentions that there are many similarities as well between men and
women. In paragraph 13, he talks about 9/11 and how ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Jensen does not provide sufficient evidence to support his point. According to paragraph 5, Jensen
indicates that violence and rivalry are the characteristics in businessmen, athletes, and veterans but in
the United States this applies to mostly all men. He is trying to say that not all men think of
masculinity as violence yet he only gives examples of men who do.
4. From the phrase recurring intellectual fad Jensen is trying to say that the different behavior we
adapt from different cultures and groups effect why men and women are so different. It adds to his
argument that the reason why men and women are so different are because of the political system.
5. I think Brent Staples would agree that toxic Masculinity results from a political system that contrast
men against women. According to black men and public space, staples admits that there are many
stereotypes about black men. People think that every black man is a criminal or a burglar. In black
men and public Space, he talks about how this white lady was afraid of him thinking that she might be

Bipolar Disorder ( Bipolar )
Bipolar Disorder
Bipolar Disorder is a mental illness, which involves hypomanic episodes, which are changes in
someone s usual mood. Originally, Bipolar Disorder was called manic depression because it does
share similar symptoms with people diagnosed with depression. Bipolar Disorder is a severe condition
because it can cause mania, which then causes hallucinations and paranoid rage. (Bipolar Disorder)
Bipolar Disorder is classified into two categories, bipolar type 1 and bipolar type 2. Bipolar type 2 is
more serious because there is more major depression episodes. (Bipolar Disorder) A study done by
Revista Brasileria de Psiquitra, shows a higher prevalence of Bipolar Disorder type 1 but overall both
are pretty low in the general population. (Clemente) Because Bipolar Disorder is a mood disorder, the
causes are unknown. (Bipolar Disorder) Even though they don t know the root of the illness, doctors
have found reasons that could have contribution. One of these would be genetics and its most common
with people who have relatives that have already been diagnosed with Bipolar Disorder. Also, after
research doctors have discovered that patients with bipolar disorder seem to have physical deviations
with their brains. Another factor could be a chemical imbalance with neurotransmitters. They also
have discovered that stress, alcohol, and drugs could also initiate the first manic episode. (Mayo
Clinic)
The symptoms for bipolar disorder are separated into three categories:

Over a period of ten days, Alan Merriam takes his readers on a journey through the Basongye Bala
tribe on their quest to create the perfect drum. Drum creation and music in general is an important
element to the Basongye culture, this can be witnessed through this study by how detailed and
extensive the process for drum making actually is, the Basongye people ensure every groove and nook
is in its correct place. Additionally, the author reminds his readers that even though the purpose of this
article is to show how the Basongye Bala folks create drums, that it is not the only investigation that
will occur. Any ethnographic investigation can lead to almost anything else; one study can inevitably
build upon itself (Merriam 74). This ethnographic study was done through observations of the Bala
people. As mentioned previously, the purpose of this study is to illustrate drum creation within the
Basongye Bala tribe of Lupupa Ngye; it is an ethnographic, as well as, an ethnomusical study. The
author clarifies the disparity between Basongye people, how there are actually three groups of the
same people. This happened because the original Basongye people of the Democratic Republic of the
Congo were temporarily dispersed by the Arabian Slave Wars then they regrouped into three divisions:
the Basongye of the East, the Bekalebwe of the South, and lastly, the Bala of the Northeast (Merriam

puts her on the list of a minority of business owned by women, especially in the 1980 s when Bakers
Delight was opened. Though she has said that she has not faced many barriers to being a woman in
business, apart from a few instances, a woman would likely not have made it to be so successful
without focus, thinking of those around her, passion, self motivation and without being a hard worker,
all of which are traits required to be an entrepreneur. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Bakers Delight has treats for all ages, ranging from fresh bread to finger buns to chocolate croissants,
and works to create a family environment.
When sales and profits weren t going as well, in 1988 Bakers Delight became a franchise. In 1988,
Lesley and Roger owned 15 bakeries. They became a franchise after the influx of ones such as KFC
and McDonalds. By 1991, had grown to 43 bakeries across Victoria. In the next two years, Bakers
Delight grew to 200 bakeries and ten years later, 600. Now, there are more than 700 bakeries over
three countries, and Bakers Delight is more successful than ever.
Any business, no matter what, is going to fail if the product is not of good quality. You wouldn t watch
a poor quality movie, or eat a meal that wasn t to your taste. So a business needs to work hard to
ensure that their produce is of high quality, and Bakers Delight does so by making their products fresh
and in good environments. Through quality food, Bakers Delight has stayed, and remained Australia s
most successful

The Decameron Analysis
Nasty Women in The Decameron In The Decameron by Giovanni Boccaccio one of the book s main
focuses is on the portrayal of women of the Middle Ages. Boccaccio portrays women as overtly
sexual, outspoken and highly self motivated characters, while women of the time often knew their
place in society and often performed the tasks left undone by their lords. Two of the women Boccaccio
portrays are Elissa and Pampinea. Elissa and Pampinea are two women Boccaccio portrays as
different, complex women characters. Boccaccio s portrays women of the Middle Ages as overtly
sexual, outspoken and highly self motivated characters, while women of the time often knew their
place in society. The women often performed task when the men were away or unable to get their
tasks done. Boccaccio states in the Introduction that he created this piece of work for all the ladies out
there. He said he created career suicide by writing The Decameron for and about women but he does it
because he loves them. The roles of women in this time period were firmly connected through the
Church. The Catholic Church was not only a governing system but also maintained an ideal of
morality. It was often said that respect for women is only found in a society where monogamy is the
law of the land ( Roles ). Monogamy is the practice of being married to only one person at a time
which would be respectful towards women because the husband only has one wife. Polygamy was
also a practice at the time where a husband has

THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN NATURAL LAW AND LEGAL POSITIVISM This essay is going
to discuss and analyse the differences between two basic principles natural law and legal positivism.
According to Hume, there are two realms of human enquiry , one in the field of facts which is
concerned with what is actually the case and the other in the field of ought that is, what ought to be the
case1. Those who believe in the principle of natural law are known as naturalists while those who
believe in the principle of legal positivism or positive law are known as positivists. This is a brief
overview of the two principles of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is the major difference between positivist and natural law thinkers. Natural law is the
combination of laws and morals while legal positivism is the seperation of laws and morals. Legal
positivism declares that morality is irrelevant to the identification of what is valid law and that the
criteria for the validity of a legal rule or law in a society is that it has the warrant of the sovereign and
will be enforced by the sovereign and its agents. Raz, a positivist, stated that the validity of a law can
never depend on its morality 6 Positive law or positivism is

this feature, it would hardly be entitled to rank as law at all. A natural law on the other hand may stll

We re All Becoming Poor, But We Can Do Something

We re all becoming poor, but we can do something
Did you know that about 4.8 million people in Canada live in poverty? It is not just the countries in
the East who you think are poor; many countries in Europe and North America have individuals who
live in poverty because of various factors affecting them. These may include low wages, fewer
benefits, housing shortage and of course, their lifestyle or way of living. Poverty can also be tied to the
government of that city or country and certain rules or laws set by the government could affect these
people. Although we are living in an era where we are making many technological advances, poverty
is still increasing. Poverty is increasing again because of inequality, poor decisions made by some of
political leaders, and by the members of our own communities.
To understand how worse the situation of poverty has become in Canada, we have to look at statistics
that show how poverty has increased over the years. Poverty has been increasing as residents struggle
to put food on their tables. For example, in Canada, child poverty has increased to from 12.8% to
15.1% from the mid 1990s, ( Canada Falling behind on Poverty, Inequality, says Report. 1) and 15%
of children in Canada currently live under poverty because they have less access to necessities. It is
not surprising that UNICEF has rated Canada 17th out of the 29 wealthy countries in the world. (

Citizenship Of The United States
Over a century ago, the 14th Amendment of the United States Constitution was implemented to grant
citizenship to individuals born within the country. This was the first time that it was defined what it
means to be a citizen in the U.S. While the amendment was created to address the citizenship of
slaves, it is currently under speculation in regards to granting U.S. citizenship to children born to
undocumented immigrants (Gans, 2012). While there have been many arguments to place restrictions
or eradicate granting children of undocumented immigrants U.S. citizenship, the constitutional right
remains the same: if you are born on U.S. land, you are a citizen (Angelo, 2013). This paper argues
that the birthright citizenship of U.S. born children of undocumented immigrants should continue to
be granted based on the underlying principles of the 14th Amendment and the possible implications of
ending birthright citizenship. First, this paper describes birthright citizenship and the 14th
Amendment, as well as its use in several Supreme Court cases that are significant to this issue. Then,
various implications of eradicating birthright citizenship are discussed. Before discussing the possible
consequences of eradicating birthright citizenship, it is imperative to discuss the history and principles
underlying it. Birthright Citizenship in America and the Fourteenth Amendment Birthright citizenship
is a principle stating that people born within the country should be recognized as U.S.

The Execution Of A New Strategy
Execution of a new strategy is always a taxing task. It necessitates the possession of significant
resources, and also a well designed and engaged administrative composition. Good policy will
designate a specific person who or entity who is accountable for implementing the new policy. At the
outset of the execution of a new policy, a group should be identified that can oversee the new strategy
in all pertinent sectors of the organization to assure various efforts within management are
synchronized.
In Jordan, an expansion synchronization team was set up in the governmental bureau that collected
information from each of the government directorates within the kingdom s Education Ministry to
oversee the implementation of diverse programs connected to the education transformation that
included the ICT Plan that the government wished to develop (Ministry of Economics, 2008). In
Singapore, the Educational Technology Division teamed up with divisions within the government s
education ministry in such activities as curriculum preparation, development and training of teachers
in ICT and the execution of their long range and short range plans. In addition, the Ministry of
Education worked closely with the government agencies that are held responsible for the national ICT
grid and for increasing an aggressive ICT industry in Singapore (Coppock, Smith Howell, 2007).

The Environmental Justice Movement Is The Confluence Of...
Delegates of the National People of Color Environmental Leadership Summit once said that the The
environmental justice movement is the confluence of three of America s greatest challenges: the
struggle against racism and poverty; the effort to preserve and improve the environment; and the
compelling need to shift social institutions from class division and environmental depletion to social
unity and global sustainability. (pg.1)
Environmental Justice is a grassroots movement that deals with environmental burdens and their
distributional consequences (Visgilio and Whitelaw, ix) Environmental justice emerged in the United
States in the 1960 s during the civil rights movement. However, environmental justice didn t become a

I will discuss why communities in the United States, who have the least political power, fewer
resources such as money, time and education and have little to no community awareness on ecological
threats, are more than likely to experience arduous environmental and health problems. Additionally, I
will explain that the main reason certain communities are not talking about these injustices is because
they don t know how much they are being affected by toxic air pollution or water contamination. How
they don t understand the neoliberal policies that encourage and allow companies to be located near
their homes, schools and children. I will then go into a case study about Barrio Logan and the
injustices the community has faced over the century. Through my case study, I will discuss how
organizations like Barrio Logan College Institute (BLCI) are extremely important because they
encourage families to become more involved with their community. Using BLCI s coalition efforts, I
will focus on ways in which activism, education and community involvement are important when
fighting against environmental injustices in Barrio Logan.
In the United States, communities of color and low income neighborhoods are historically the hardest
hit by pollution from industrial factories and incinerators, the illegal dumping of chemical wastes on
vacant lots, lead contamination in building materials, a lack of parklands and other

Analysis Of The Man From Snowy River By Banjo Paterson
The Man From Snowy River by Banjo Paterson 1. Andrew Barton Paterson, more commonly known
as Banjo Paterson, was a famous Australian poet who was born on the 17th February, 1863. He spent
his early life at a farm near Yass, in between Melbourne and Sydney. His early education came from a
governess, but as soon as he was able to ride a pony by himself, he was taught at a school in Binalong.
At 11, Paterson went to Sydney Grammar School whilst his family was living in Gladesville. He left
SCS at 16 after failing an examination. From 1885, he started having poetry published in Australian
magazine, The Bulletin, where he first coined the pseudonym Banjo , the name of his favourite horse.
In 1899, Paterson became a war correspondent for multiple newspapers, but in 1908, he decided to
take a break from journalism writing and focus more on his poetry. In WWI, Paterson served as an
ambulance driver and returned to Australia in 1919. His third collection of poetry, Saltbush Bill JP,
was published soon after. Paterson died of a heart attack in 1941, just 12 days before his 77th birthday.
2. The Man from Snowy River tells the story of a horse that escapes from a ranch. The owner offers a
lot of money to capture the prized possession and so many drovers set off to capture the horse. The
drovers pursue the horse across the country, but are defeated by the rough terrain. Then the Man from
Snowy River steps up and charges down the slope. He is lost to view by the rest of the group, but
reappears later, tired and battered, with the horse trailing behind him. 3. The Man from Snowy River
holds plenty of language devices that help capture the mood and setting of the poem. The old man
with his hair as white as snow makes use of simile to help describe one of the men on a horse. The
simile makes the line more interesting and less monotonous by showing what he looks like rather than
straight out telling. The man is made out to be strong and fierce but the similarity of his hair and snow
juxtaposes this power as snow is thought to be delicate and beautiful. Another technique is the
metaphor And the stock horse snuffs the battle with delight. This hints that the drovers must be
prepared for the dangerous job ahead of them, if

Describe How The Sporophyte Stages Of A Plant Life Cycle...
Chapter29
1.Describe how the sporophyte and gametophyte stages of a plant life cycle differ.
The life cycles of all land plants alternate between two generations of distinct multicellular organisms
which are gametophytes and sporophytes. Each generation give rise to the other otherwise known as
alternation of generations which is when the life cycle includes both multicellular haploid organisms
and multicellular diploid organisms. Gametophyte is a gamete producing, multicellular haploid (1n). It
is named for its production by mitosis of haploid gametes such as egg and sperm, that fuse during
fertilization, forming diploid zygotes. This mitotic division of the zygote produces a multicellular
diploid sporophyte, which is a spore producing plant. Nature sporophyte produces haploid spores,
which are reproductive cells that can develope into a new haploid organism without fusing with
another cell. Mitotic division of the spore cell produces a new multicellular gametophyte, and the
cycle begins again.
2.Explain why most bryophytes grow close to the ground.
Bryophytes are nonvascular plants that are seedless, and do not form a monophyletic group (a clade).
There favorable habitat is in moist soil and or tree bark which allows them to germinate and grow into
gametophytes. They generally form into ground hugging carpet, because of the bryophytes lack of
vascular tissue which is needed to transport water and nutrients in long distances. The thin structure
allows bryophyte organs to

The Controversial Concept Of Battered Woman Syndrome
Battered Woman Syndrome The controversial concept of Battered Woman Syndrome (BWS) is a
psychological theory that aims to explain the behavior of certain women who suffer abuse from their
husbands, partners, or significant others. The theory was first proposed and introduced by Dr. Lenore
Walker in the 1970 s based on her clinical observations. It then quickly became a common way to
validate criminal behavior of women who were charged with the murder of their partner, however
since the syndrome wasn t confirmed through scientific research as a real disorder, it didn t enjoy
widespread support from the forensic psychologist s community. Learned Helplessness Originally,
battered woman syndrome was termed as learned helplessness. Walker ... Show more content on

Battered women stay in these perilous relationships for a variety of reasons, including: still being
positively reinforced by the honeymoon phase of the battering cycle financial dependence upon the
batterer false belief that they can keep the peace distress of danger if she were to leave threats made by
the batterer to hurt her or her children if she left loss of self confidence depression or loss of
psychological energy necessary to leave As determined by Dr. Walker s The Battered Woman
Syndrome (p. 95 97, 1984), there are four common characteristics of the disorder: 1. The woman
believes that the violence was or is her fault. 2. The woman has an inability to place the responsibility
for the violence elsewhere. 3. The woman fears for her life and/or her children s lives. 4. The woman
has an irrational belief that the abuser is omnipresent and omniscient. Women who are chronically
battered has been categorized as a subclass of posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD). It is composed of
the following symptoms: re living the battering as if it were reoccurring even when it is not, efforts to
circumvent the psychological effect of battering by avoiding activities, people, and emotions,
hyperarousal or hypervigilance, disrupted interpersonal relationships, body image distortion or other
somatic concerns, and sexuality

Analysis Of The Poem Harlem
James Mercer Langston Hughes was an American poet; a Joplin, Missouri native and an active,
versatile writer, earning acclaim as a poet, novelist, playwright and columnist. He was one of the first
poets to explore an innovative sing songy, stylized delivery called jazz poetry.
As an African American, his point of view, collectively synergized with this then new literary art,
catapulted his writings between the 1930s 1960s. He is often credited as the leader of the Harlem
Renaissance, and famously wrote about the period that the negro was in vogue. (Langston).
Throughout his body of work, Hughes spoke eloquently to the full spectrum of dreams both their
inspirational power and their heavy burden, if not fully realized. His famed ... Show more content on

In his 1951 poem, the title alone, Harlem (Dream Deferred) makes the reader immediately conscious
of the speaker s dismissal of ownership. The piece examines, upon deferral, what happens to a dream
Does it dry up / like a raisin the sun?
Hughes later deduces Maybe it just sags like a heavy load. There, with its indication of weight, the
reader draws comparison to a dream being a burden an unbearable, unattainable measuring stick in the
speaker s life, or in this piece s case, America s life.
Hughes, now older, having seen more of the world is grappling with the injustices of equality and
equity. Can an African American attain his/her dream without it wilting under the prejudices of an
unfair America? He saw the dreams of many residents of Harlem, New York disintegrate in the wake
of World War II. Some read this poem as a warning, believing that the speaker argues that deferred
dreams will lead to social unrest. Notably, Lorraine Hansberry chose a line from this poem as the title
of her famous play, A Raisin in the Sun, which explores the idea of delayed dreams in the world of a
black family living in the South Side of Chicago during the 1950s. Both the play and Hughes s poem
champion the power of pursuing dreams, and both comment on the state of civil rights in America.

  • 2. A Blended Profession Essay INTRODUCTION To begin, we need to acknowledge that sport plays an important position in the lives of many people around the world today. Sport is not confined to specific boundaries as there are many different fields that sport may permeate itself into. These fields include the sporting and economic sectors, sport sciences as well as the practical and athletic professionals who participate in these fields (Refacuk, 2017). Undoubtedly we cannot ignore the field of sport coaching as a profession, responsible for teaching and mentoring. In this essay, I will define the concept of a blended profession and what ideologies rotate around how a blended professional should be acknowledged as well as how this integrates into the ICCE and SASCOC framework ... • 3. The Legalization Of Drugs Should Be Legal The legalization of drugs has been an issue in society for quite a long time. People who are for and against the legalization of drugs can be very opinionated in their beliefs. Often times, some of these people on both sides of the argument can even be considered extremists. These disagreements vary quite a bit across the spectrum. Milton Friedman, someone who is for the legalization of drugs, argues that A user must associate with criminals to [sic] get the drugs, and many are driven to become criminals themselves . . . (569). On the contrary, drugs can cause very serious health problems and due to their destructive nature, they can destroy not only the user, but their family and loved ones as well. Milton s point reinforces the idea to make drugs legal. However, to make drugs legal can have serious problems. Health concerns, for instance, can be a major factor if we decide to legalize drugs. There are also major benefits to make drugs illegal. I stand against the idea to make drugs legal; it can lead to harmful consequences and regret. My friend who had tried marijuana for the first time, did not have a satisfying experience afterward. He had non stop panic attacks, which made him worry about everything. Almost any kind of drug can have adverse effects on people which are major health concerns to worry about. Pregnant women that use drugs like cocaine or heroin have already hindered or even caused death to the life of their child. Children exposed to drugs in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. The Themes Of Friendship And War In A Separate Peace The themes in stories are very crucial when it comes to understanding the truth behind a book or story. In A Separate Peace the two themes that stand out the most are friendship and war, but not the kind of war you would think. Not one shot was fired, nor was anyone killed but rather the war on their hearts and minds. I chose these two themes because they go hand in hand in a way. Most people have that one friend that they love to death, but they can sometimes become jealous or annoyed of that friend and want to punch them in the face. This represents friendship and war at the same time. Throughout this essay I will provide examples of Finny and Gene s friendship as well as the inner war they shared with one another. In A Separate Peace, Gene ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The friendship between Gene and Phineas is probably the most important theme throughout the novel. The boys friendship at the beginning of the story is strong, but as the story goes on and Gene s jealousy towards Finny grows their friendship becomes weaker and weaker. They have always loved friendly competition, but when Finny starts to gain popularity and beat records, their competitiveness becomes not so friendly. Gene feels that their friendship is not equal and that Finny is better than him which causes complications. Once Finny breaks his leg he is no longer able to play sports, so he teaches Gene how to play in order to live through him in a way. After Finny breaks his leg he tells Gene, Listen, pal, if I can t play sports, you re going to play them for me, and I lost part of myself to him then, and a soaring sense of freedom revealed that this must have been my purpose from the first: to become a part of Phineas (Knowles 43). Because Gene is jealous and wants to be more like Finny he goes along with it in hopes of gaining popularity and being an equal with Finny. Through this the boys become codependent of one another because Gene is trying to be like Finny, and Finny wants Gene to be like him since he can t participate in what he loves ... • 5. Boston Tea Party The events that lead up to the war were the Boston Tea Party, Boston Massacre, and the Stamp Act. The Boston Tea Party was an event about Samuel Adams and the Sons of Liberty going on ships and dumping 342 chests of tea in the sea. They did that because they did not like the Tea Act and the taxes of the tea that the British made. I think that the since the people who didn t like the taxes and Tea Act, they made the right decision dumping the tea. It was called the Boston Tea Party because of the tea dumping happening during that time. The group that dumped the tea disguised as Mohawk Indians in order to go do the tea dumping. After the first gunshot had hit nobody shot right away, it was after that the gunshots had been made by the soldiers. It took place in the year of 1770 of March 5 and killed 5 people total. I also think that the 5 people that were killed, who were those people s names and were they important? The Boston Massacre was called that because they wanted to make it a propaganda and some people wanted to make a big deal out of it. A propaganda is basically a rumor that spreads and becomes known. I think that when they called it a propaganda and wanted to spread the news, everyone around must have gotten to know it quickly because they wanted to make it a big thing. There were also two separate trials that lasted two days. The trials were about both, the soldiers and James Preston being accused of murder or they were being questioned about what had happened during the massacre. One was for the soldiers and the other for James Preston, a captain for the British soldiers. In the trials, how people were there in each trial? The Boston Massacre was took place east of The Old State House. The Old State House was the Britain Headquarters where the taxes went after the trade goods were paid and gathered. They chose to protest there, because it was the Britain headquarters. The Britain Headquarters were probably very important for them to have the massacre there. • 6. Markets And International Monetary Fund Markets Want Greece in the Eurozone The fickleness of financial markets is a constant source of both frustration and amazement, particularly in the Eurozone. Having started last week concerned about the ramifications of a resounding No vote in Greece s referendum about bailout terms imposed by the Troika, there was a strong rally in anticipation of deal eventually being signed between Greece and her creditors. Markets have, therefore, seemingly taken the view that the best known outcome is for Greece to remain in the single currency, regardless of the imperfections of any agreement. In the absence of substantial debt write downs, however, the situation facing Greece remains dire. Both the US and International Monetary Fund (IMF) have ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Thus, this highlights the utter hypocrisy of the current negotiations surrounding Greece: both France and Germany, in fact, conveniently ignored the rules for the fiscal convergence criteria when it suited them. Neither country was sanctioned in a major way. France could well find itself in the firing line if it fails to prevent a Greek exit from the single currency. The sustainability of the current membership of euro has, therefore, not been laid to rest. Understanding Events in China Events in China took on a new level of intensity last week as the authorities attempted to stabilise the equity market. The weakness appears to be event drive as opposed to being the result of economic malaise. In fact, recent economic data out of China suggests that recent stimulus measures appear to have had some traction. The event in question appears to be a large margin call being made by one of the main regulatory authorities. Recently, I mentioned that margin debt as a percentage of GDP was a relatively high 8%. The problem facing the authorities was sourcing where the trouble was emanating from. Margin debt can be originated from two sources: 1) licensed brokers, and 2) the so called grey market within the shadow banking system. The origination split is roughly 50/50 between the two sectors. This is where the similarities end. At licensed brokers, margin credit can only be extended for up ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Military Planner Experience I have supervised dozens of military planners in my 14 years of Army experience. Matt was the best planner that I supervised. My supervisor evaluated him as the #1 staff officer out of a pool of 20 planners on his staff. In less than 4 months on the staff, Matt was promoted to a leadership position managing 100 other Soldiers, some of which outrank him in experience and seniority. There are two vivid examples of his talent and performance that I want to highlight. As a military engineer, Matt was responsible for the long term management of facilities within the organization s portfolio. One of the facilities reached the end of its lifecycle and Matt had to convince senior military officers on several unpopular alternatives. In the end, using ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. Liberalism And Human Rights Essay within the confinements of liberalism and with respect to traditional human rights, however, the central governments have managed to bypass the creed of liberalism and human rights. 2) Redrawing the boundaries, or reducing the powers, of internal political subunits controlled by the national minority; decisions on the boundaries and powers of internal political subunits. Some liberal democratic states engaged in redrawing boundaries which are within the confinement of liberalism and the liberal state, but encroaches the rights of national minorities. The central states draw boundaries to disempower national minorities. For instance, a minority s territory are divided into several units to make cohesive political action impossible. For example, the division of France into 83 departments after the Revolution, which intentionally subdivided the historical regions of the Basques, Bretons, and other linguistic minorities; or the division of Catalonia region in Spain. 3) Language policies; decisions on official languages. In many liberal democratic states, the majority language is adopted as official or de facto official language where it is used in government, bureaucracy, courts, schools, and business. While there are exceptions to this many liberal democratic states allow for multilingualism yet the policies related to language should be more robustly clarified within the human rights creed of democratic liberalism. • 9. The Impact Of Urban Population And The Current Causes... The last century has been characterized by the rapid growth of the urban areas which is likely to be one of the milestones in the current ages. Also known as the urbanization, this process, is defined by the unprecedented rural population shift to the cities which stems from the Modern period as a result of the Industrial Revolution. However, nowadays, the key aspect is the universal nature of such, issue t has an effect on an exceptional transformation on a global scale causing a drastic impact on the social, economic, cultural and political patterns. It is a widely held the opinion that one of the main challenges of this century is to clarify the origin and identify which are the sociodemographic factor that negatively impact on the urban population and the current causes social segregation. Regarding the recent academic research in human geography field, can be possible to associate this social segregation with the gentrification . Thus, the gentrification can be defined as the dynamic process that displaces the local and low income population of the district due to the urban revitalization of the area. Exploration of the social segregation in the Australian context (Melbourne and Sydney), might be the main purpose of this research. The analysis of the gentrification process is studied in order to find out what are the negative impacts on the population. Therefore, the research question might focus on the issue of the social transformation. Thus, the findings can ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 10. Destruction of the American Dream in Arthur Miller s... Destruction of the American Dream in Arthur Miller s Death of A Salesman A white picket fence surrounds the tangible icons of the American Dreams in the middle 1900 s: a mortgage, an automobile, a kitchen appliance paid for on the monthly installment plan, and a silver trophy representative of high school football triumph. A pathetic tale examining the consequences of man s harmartias, Arthur Miller s Death of A Salesman satisfies many, but not all, of the essential elements of a tragedy. Reality peels away the thin layers of Willy Loman s American Dream; a dream built on a lifetime of poor choices and false values. Although the characters are not of noble birth nor possess a heroic nature nor experience a reversal of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For Biff, the idea of success is an easy loan from an ex employer he has stolen from; for Hap, success is obtaining a promotion by waiting for the merchandise manager to die. Inevitably, the Loman s unrealistic idea about success is one of the steps in their downfall. Equally as damaging, the Loman family lacks the ability to make the necessary and suitable choices to pursue the American Dream. Although Willy is skillful with his hands and believes a man who can t handle tools is disgusting, he chooses a lifetime career as a salesman, based on the fanciful image of his father who abandoned Willy as a child and on the image of an 84 year old salesman who dies alone in a train car to Boston. Willy takes pride in the craftsmanship he put into their house, yet believes a salesman such as his father is better than a carpenter. Furthermore, he questions the purpose of building because some stranger ll come along, move in, and that s that. Ironically, Willy is a better carpenter than a salesman. He boasts on what an impact he makes on his clients, but in reality one of the reasons he has a sexual rendezvous with a secretary is to get through to the buyers. Willy makes another poor choice because of his hubris, or false pride, when he turns down Charley s job offer. Similarly, false pride and the inability to make appropriate choices lead to Hap and Biff choosing unsuitable occupations. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 11. Bring Back Flogging By Jeff Jacoby An Analysis for Bring Back Flogging In the essay written by Jeff Jacoby in Bring back Flogging The article is about how our prisons are over populated with people that are in there because of the none violence crime, which make the inmates to have higher chance of getting rape, beaten, or murder rather than getting whipped and embarrassment in public, that could help them to make better choice in the future and also teaches the public to behave the way that is acceptable in the society. Plus the cost that is associated with these inmates to keep them in prison that cost the tax payers millions of dollars every year. Jeff Jacoby uses a lot of his own opinion, in some instances he used what John Dilulio, who is a Princeton criminologist ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... What Gatchel says makes a lot of sense, that states being under budget for the prisons due to the over population and since the income of a prison comes from tax payers, there is only so much that jails can take to take care of the inmates. What he is suggesting is why not going back to the old school ways of dealing with nonviolent crime, which costs a lot less than $30,000 a year to just whippet someone. I come from a country that they still handle small criminals the old ways, and big time criminals are the only people that end up in jail, therefore when it comes to budgeting at the beginning of the year, the country has more money to invest towards the people, rather than the criminals that are part of the noncontributing part of the society. The opposing issue that I can think of would be that some people might say that it is a cruel way to treat someone when you degrade them in public, but what they don t realize is that when people ... • 12. Relationship Between Growth Opportunities And Amount Of... relationship can be observed by comparing the small companies, where SOCO has $0.8bn retained earnings and zero debt, while JKX has almost $0.4bn and some debt in their capital structure. 4.3. Growth Empirical studies suggest a negative relationship between growth opportunities and amount of leverage. The market to book ratio (calculated as market value of equity over book value of equity) is used as proxy of the growth opportunities available to a firm (Niu, 2008). Growth opportunities are mainly intangible and thus not suited to serve as collateral or to be liquidated. Hence firms with high growth potential might not prefer, or not even be offered, to raise additional capital through debt financing (Jensen and Meckling, 1976). Furthermore, due to agency conflicts, managers of companies with high leverage (debt controlled) may forgo positive NPV projects, because the returns of such project will be transferred to debt holders rather than shareholders. Therefore, highly leveraged companies might have low amount of investment opportunities and thus a lower growth rate (Myers, 1984). Rajan and Zingales (1995) support this inverse relationship and suggest, that firms with high market to book ratios suffer under higher bankruptcy costs. Who Is Roger Chillingworth A Villain Archetype Roger Chillingworth Villain Archetype My paper will be about Roger Chillingworth, a character from The Scarlet Letter who is a villain archetype. A villain is an evil character who exists to cause disorder, confusion and mayhem on society and to battle against a hero. Chillingworth is not just the evil shadow in The Scarlet Letter, but the fanatic that obsesses over revenge, making it the sole purpose of his life. When finds out that his wife, Hester, has committed adultery against him, Chillingworth decides to cast his anger on the illusive man involved rather than Hester herself. Lois is a stay at home wife while Peter works at the Quahog Brewery. Although the show focuses on the family s dysfunctionality it does portray how the traditional family works. A lot of the time Lois is shown taking care of Stewie (the baby) and doing housework such as cooking. Peter is almost never shown taking care of the baby or doing any housework. • 15. Computer Fraud And Identity Theft Abstract In today s world where computers, cellular phones, wireless internet connections and electronic transactions are common place norms, maintaining ones identity can be a challenge. In 2012 the United States population was 314.1 million people, in the same year, 75.6 percent of households reported having a computer. (Government Census, 2012) With this high population and electronic use, one could extrapolate that there is high risk for computer fraud and identity theft. For example consider these statistics in 2013, identity theft complaints accounted for 14% of all complaints. The most common form of reported identity theft was government documents/benefits fraud, 34%, followed by credit card fraud, 17%, phone or utilities fraud, 14%, and bank fraud, 8%. Forty one percent of identity theft complainants reported whether they contacted law enforcement. Of those victims, 74% notified a police department and 61% indicated a report was taken. (Government Census, 2012) There are many ways to counter identity theft, some being not to give out personal data or to make sure to properly destroy/secure all important documentation. These methods of protection seem quite feasible and often time practical, however with the rate at which identity theft occurs the validity of these protections might come into question. Therefore this research proposal begs the questions of how effective are these counter measures, to what degree are the counter measures followed by the victims, and ... • 16. The Fools in Twelfth Night Essay The Fools of Twelfth Night It is not unusual that the fool should be a prominent figure and make an important contribution in forming the confusion and the humor in an Elizabethan drama. In William Shakespeare s comedy, Twelfth Night, Feste the clown is not the only fool who is subject to foolery. He and many other characters combine their silly acts and wits to invade other characters that either escape reality or live a dream. In Twelfth Night, Feste, Maria and Sir Toby are the fools that make the comedy work in many senses. In Shakespeare s Twelfth Night, Feste s role in this Illyrian comedy is significant because Illyria is a country permeated with the spirit of the Feast of Fools, where identities are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Although he does not make any profound remarks, he seems to be the wisest person of all the characters in the comedy. Viola remarks this by saying, This fellow s wise enough to play the fool (III.i.61). Since Feste is a licensed fool, his main role in Twelfth Night is to speak the truth. This is where the humor lies, his truthfulness. In one example he proves Olivia to be a true fool by asking her what she was mourning about. The point Feste tried to make was that Olivia was mourning for a person whose soul is in heaven. Take away the fool, gentlemen (act #, scene #, line 3). Adding to the humor of the comedy, Feste dresses up as Sir Topaz, the curate and visits the imprisoned Malvolio with Maria and Sir Toby. There he uses his humor to abuse Malvolio who is still unaware that he is actually talking to the clown rather than to the real Sir Topaz. Feste (disguised as Sir Topaz) calls Malvolio a lunatic (IV.ii.23), Satan (IV.ii.32) and confuses him by wittingly making him a fool. Throughout the play, Malvolio has always been the person who intentionally spoils the pleasure of other people. He is Feste s worst nightmare in the play, but in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

There are three separate instances in this book where Carton keeps the plot going, and without him, the story would have ended. The first was his similarity to Charles Darnay was keeping Darnay out of jail. Without Carton, Mr. Stryver would not be able to win his cases because Sydney is the brains behind the operation. Finally, he was executed instead of Darnay, so that Darnay and Lucie could live out their lives together. The first we hear of Carton is at Charles Darnay s first trial. Charles is on trial for spying on England for France. Mr. Stryver is Darnay s lawyer and has done almost nothing to help the case, but just as it seems it is over for Charles, Stryver uses his final defense: Charles Darnay looks exactly like Sydney Carton. • 18. The High Cost Of Manliness By Jensen Summary The High Cost of Manliness 1. Jensen sees the negative consequences of masculinity as men taking advantage of their manliness. Some men show their manliness in a negative way, like being violent to achieve their desires rather than looking for other ways to compromise. They like being in control and taking charge rather than understanding and deciding on an agreement. It can sometimes be threatening to women and make them feel powerless. 2. In paragraph 10 and 11, Jensen talks about many differences between men and women one of which is their physical differences. Their body mass index differentiates and so does their hormones. A man would have more muscle so they tend to be way stronger than a woman. They also have varying levels of different hormones. Jensen also mentions that there are many similarities as well between men and women. In paragraph 13, he talks about 9/11 and how ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... We re All Becoming Poor, But We Can Do Something Aishwarya Srinivas Ms. Lim English ENG3U1 05 October 13, 2015 We re all becoming poor, but we can do something Did you know that about 4.8 million people in Canada live in poverty? It is not just the countries in the East who you think are poor; many countries in Europe and North America have individuals who live in poverty because of various factors affecting them. These may include low wages, fewer benefits, housing shortage and of course, their lifestyle or way of living. Poverty can also be tied to the government of that city or country and certain rules or laws set by the government could affect these people. Although we are living in an era where we are making many technological advances, poverty is still increasing. Poverty is increasing again because of inequality, poor decisions made by some of political leaders, and by the members of our own communities. To understand how worse the situation of poverty has become in Canada, we have to look at statistics that show how poverty has increased over the years. Poverty has been increasing as residents struggle to put food on their tables. For example, in Canada, child poverty has increased to from 12.8% to 15.1% from the mid 1990s, ( Canada Falling behind on Poverty, Inequality, says Report. 1) and 15% of children in Canada currently live under poverty because they have less access to necessities. This was the first time that it was defined what it means to be a citizen in the U.S. While the amendment was created to address the citizenship of slaves, it is currently under speculation in regards to granting U.S. citizenship to children born to undocumented immigrants (Gans, 2012). While there have been many arguments to place restrictions or eradicate granting children of undocumented immigrants U.S. citizenship, the constitutional right remains the same: if you are born on U.S. land, you are a citizen (Angelo, 2013). This paper argues that the birthright citizenship of U.S. born children of undocumented immigrants should continue to be granted based on the underlying principles of the 14th Amendment and the possible implications of ending birthright citizenship. Andrew Barton Paterson, more commonly known as Banjo Paterson, was a famous Australian poet who was born on the 17th February, 1863. He spent his early life at a farm near Yass, in between Melbourne and Sydney. His early education came from a governess, but as soon as he was able to ride a pony by himself, he was taught at a school in Binalong. At 11, Paterson went to Sydney Grammar School whilst his family was living in Gladesville. He left SCS at 16 after failing an examination. From 1885, he started having poetry published in Australian magazine, The Bulletin, where he first coined the pseudonym Banjo , the name of his favourite horse. In 1899, Paterson became a war correspondent for multiple newspapers, but in 1908, he decided to take a break from journalism writing and focus more on his poetry. In WWI, Paterson served as an ambulance driver and returned to Australia in 1919. His third collection of poetry, Saltbush Bill JP, was published soon after. Paterson died of a heart attack in 1941, just 12 days before his 77th birthday. 2. The Man from Snowy River tells the story of a horse that escapes from a ranch. The owner offers a lot of money to capture the prized possession and so many drovers set off to capture the horse. The drovers pursue the horse across the country, but are defeated by the rough terrain. Then the Man from Snowy River steps up and charges down the slope. He is lost to view by the rest of the group, but reappears later, tired and battered, with the horse trailing behind him. 3. The Man from Snowy River holds plenty of language devices that help capture the mood and setting of the poem. The old man with his hair as white as snow makes use of simile to help describe one of the men on a horse. The simile makes the line more interesting and less monotonous by showing what he looks like rather than straight out telling. The man is made out to be strong and fierce but the similarity of his hair and snow juxtaposes this power as snow is thought to be delicate and beautiful. Another technique is the metaphor And the stock horse snuffs the battle with delight. This hints that the drovers must be prepared for the dangerous job ahead of them, if ... • 30. Describe How The Sporophyte Stages Of A Plant Life Cycle... Chapter29 1.Describe how the sporophyte and gametophyte stages of a plant life cycle differ. The life cycles of all land plants alternate between two generations of distinct multicellular organisms which are gametophytes and sporophytes. Each generation give rise to the other otherwise known as alternation of generations which is when the life cycle includes both multicellular haploid organisms and multicellular diploid organisms. Gametophyte is a gamete producing, multicellular haploid (1n). It is named for its production by mitosis of haploid gametes such as egg and sperm, that fuse during fertilization, forming diploid zygotes. This mitotic division of the zygote produces a multicellular diploid sporophyte, which is a spore producing plant. Nature sporophyte produces haploid spores, which are reproductive cells that can develope into a new haploid organism without fusing with another cell. Mitotic division of the spore cell produces a new multicellular gametophyte, and the cycle begins again. 2.Explain why most bryophytes grow close to the ground. Bryophytes are nonvascular plants that are seedless, and do not form a monophyletic group (a clade). There favorable habitat is in moist soil and or tree bark which allows them to germinate and grow into gametophytes.
