Slippery Slope
Stories become a great influence on people as they view other people either on television or through a
book as they explain their struggles or experiences. They should not view them as a negative
perspective because of the media. In the article, Slippery Slopes: Media, Disability, and Adaptive
Sport, the author William Peace notes how the media shows disability out as something to be
miraculously and inspirationally overcome with real consequences (Peace 676). When taking a gander
at somebody with an incapacity, people tend to believe that they are not ready to do the things that
individuals with abled bodies can, which is false. While having an incapacity there are approaches to
work around things. People don t have to surrender and

The figure 2.1 (a) is a 2D representation of the actual system. It is composed by a copper cylinder and
an aluminium substrate disk. This two components are placed in top of each other and surrounded by
insulation material(mineral wool). The bottom element of the system is the heating element, that
provide heat from electrical power.
Validity of the Lumped Method
It order to implement the lumped approximation of the system model it is required to check Biot
Number Bi.The calculated Bi for the copper cylinder and aluminium substrate are values far below
0.1(0.0002 and 0.0003 respectively). This calculations are based on the estimation of the heat
convective coefficient hconv = 12[W/m2K] at 200◦C.[12].(for details in the calculation see appendix

errors was 35/35. The hospital has a Never Events policy, in the event of errors or adverse event the
hospital takes responsibility to apologize to patient, report to external agency, perform a root cause
analysis and wave all. Management and planning tools are used in an organization to create, develop a
quality culture; evaluate, organize priorities and decision making by using balanced scorecard, affinity
diagram and other tools. Some of the limitation would arise from random variation, wrong data or not
enough data, methods of reporting and measuring medical errors and adverse events. For example,
most of the reporting is from a voluntary reporting system and they are not the most reliable and
underreporting is a significant problem (Joshi, Ransom, Nash, Ransom, 2014, p.279). Each site has
used different tools to compare, help the organization achieve the desired goals and provide
transparency between consumers and providers. In order to make any improvement, it is important to
make an assessment of current performance to find out the strength and weakness of current process.

Summary Of Discoveries In The Tempest
Discoveries that are confronting can provoke us to change, due to the realisations and findings we may
encounter. These mind altering discoveries can transform our values, actions and future pathways.
Both William Shakespeare s romantic comedy tempest exploring the connotations of, hierarchy,
power, love and reconciliation, coinciding with Lenny Abrahamson s adaptation of the true story
Room whereby an exploited teen and her son jack, plot the escape from their captor s imprisonment,
while learning there is a lot more to life then room and old nick , both texts discuss these themes.
Central to each text is the dogma of Discoveries, encompassing their ability to cause the uncovering of
new realisations about ourselves and the world around us, underlined by Discoveries that can
emphasis our desire to rebel against our dictators. Both text analyse the confronting ways discovers
can encourage self transformation. Discoveries can encompass the ability to uncover new realisations
about ourselves and the world around us. Having questions answered about our lives that we have
pondered upon ourselves can be enlightening and create realisations about memories and reveal the
truth, allowing us to transform our views. The Romantic comedy the Tempest and the true story Room
convey these discoveries throughout each plot in context of jack and Maranda. Lenny Abrahamson s
Room explores the sudden exposure of the world around us, physically, when jack is sitting on the

The Effects Of Fast Drug On The Body From Methamphetamines
I chose Methamphetamines because of how fast the drug causes users to go downhill. When meth
became the drug of choice in Arizona, within a couple months entire neighborhoods were garbage
strewn, and the physical effects of the drug became apparent in anyone using. Friends disappeared off
the radar, to be seen a month later, unemployed, paranoid, scabbed and thin. I would like to learn more
about the history and long term effects on the body from methamphetamines. In 1887, amphetamines
were first produced in Germany and largely forgotten for forty years. In 1919, methamphetamine, a
synthetic stimulant was developed by Japanese pharmacologist, A. Ogata. The drug helped with
alertness and well being. In the 1930 s, methamphetamines were widely used to treat bronchial
diseases and narcolepsy. The American Medical Association approved a tablet form in 1935 for
ADHD. During WWII, German and Japanese pilots used methamphetamines to stay awake during
long flights, while the U.S and U.K used amphetamines. After the war, Japan saw an epidemic of
methamphetamine abuse. The drug was still being used legally into the 1950 s and 1960 s by everyone
from homemakers to truck drivers for alertness and weight loss. In 1970 methamphetamines became
regulated in the Controlled Substances Act and a public education campaign was mounted to educate
people about the dangers of the drug. Starting in the 1980 s and into the 1990 s the drug became
extremely popular in the southwest,

America s Grammar Problem Essay
America s Grammar Problem Growing up we re told repeatedly that, grammar is important, and you
will need it in college. As I sit in these lectures, however, I see that claim hasn t fazed anybody. I sit in
an English class expecting to read these great, well put together papers, and I get the same writing
level I saw my senior year in high school. I should expect this, I mean, no kid is going to magically
learn the rules of writing over the summer. I didn t. It took nine grueling months of an English class
that, quite frankly, was hell on earth to learn most of them. The class was the toughest class I have
ever sat through, and yet, I m blessed. I m in my second semester as a college student, and Sandra
Stebbin s English class has saved me more times than I care to count. It s time for the United States
education system to start taking grammar seriously. This is a huge concern, because our future leaders
can t afford to have writing skills equivalent to a 7th grade middle school kid. I will start with a
journey through a hellacious class focused around grammar. Coming into the WCSCC as a 12th
grader, I was astonished at how little skill I had when it came to grammar. It still boggles my mind that
it took twelve years of school before I met a teacher who really, really cared about how I composed
my sentences. She wanted us to know what adjectives, prepositions, nouns, pronouns, and run on
sentences were. However, she knew we didn t. On the first day of class, she made the

Hotspur Metaphors
In Shakespeare s Henry IV, Part 1, Hotspur, the most talented young warrior in England, leads a
rebellion against King Henry IV while, Hal, the king s seemingly lazy, indifferent son and heir to the
throne, fights against Hotspur for the throne. Hal and Hotspur have a similar ideology as seen in their
common metaphors; however, Hal speaks with various extended metaphors, biblical allusions, and
strategically places his use of verse and prose while Hotspur speaks with simpler metaphors, war
imagery, and mainly speaks in verse. Shakespeare emphasizes these speech patterns to demonstrate
Hal s ability to manipulate the world to his benefit and Hotspur s extremely volatile sensibility, and
thus, proves Hal to be more qualified to rule than Hotspur.
Hal and Hotspur share some of the same metaphors, most notably, their common use of debt as a
metaphor for honor and responsibility, which indicates how they both see these values in a mercantile
fashion. In Hal s first soliloquy, he says he will pay the debt I never promised (I.2.77), a reference to
his plan to act like a drunken thief, so when he becomes king, he will seem like a greater leader. Hal
saying he will pay the debt , or him being an effective king, displays how he thinks that he can easily
exchange his immature behavior for honor and that being a good king can instantly buy the favor of
the people. Also, the word debt implies that Hal believes that the king has an important obligation to
be honorable to the kingdom. Hotspur also uses the metaphor, saying King Henry IV Studies day and
night / To answer all the debt he owes to you / Even with the bloody payment of your deaths (I.3.184
186). Because Hotspur s father and uncle helped King Henry take the throne, Hotspur believes that the
king has a responsibility to treat them well, which he does not fulfill. This illustrates how Hotspur also
views honor as a transaction: when given, it must be repaid. Both Hal and Hotspur believe that honor
can be exchanged like goods, and they view honor, like debt, as a responsibility that must be
maintained, indicating they understand the importance of honor in society.
Hal and Hotspur share a similar ideology, but Hal s elevated language portrays him as more

Transportation as a Source of Air Pollution
STRATEGIC APPROACH TO REDUCING VEHICLE EMISSIONS IN NIGERIA: ROLE OF
FLEET OPERATORS.
BEING A LECTURE PRESENTED BY ENGR. BG IBRAHIM fwc ACM (SED) AT SAFETY
MANAGERS TRAINING PROGRAMME AT FRSC ACADEMY, JOS ON THE 28TH
AUGUST,2009.
INTRODUCTION
1. In developed and developing countries, the history of air pollution problem has typically been high
levels of smoke and sulphur dioxide arising from the combustion of sulphur containing fossil fuels
such as coal for domestic and industrial purpose.[i] Industrial development and the use of fossil fuels
have affected the world climate adversely. In Nigeria epileptic power supply has brought about the use
of diesel and petrol powered generators virtually in all homes
2. The transport ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It was also revealed that in 1998, a single car in Nigeria emitted 29,600kg of hydrocarbons, 34,000kg
of Nitrogen Oxides and 4,029 kg of different carbonate gasses over its average lifespan.[iii]
CAUSES OF POLLUTANTS IN VEHICLE
5. Motor vehicle use is now generally recognised as the source of more air pollution than any other
single activity in cities around the world. The internal combustion engine of a vehicle produces power
by burning fuel and changing the chemical energy of fuel into heat energy. The heat energy is then
converted into mechanical power. Cars and trucks do not burn all of the fuel that goes into the
combustion chamber. In fact, most vehicles only burn about 85% of the fuel and as the vehicle gets
older less and less fuel is burned. It is this unburned fuel that produces some harmful products which
are discharged from the engine and become air pollutants.[iv] Therefore, an engine s fuel system, and
its emission controls are closely interrelated. That is why attention is given to the requirements of
emission control in the design and operation of all parts of the fuel system in a vehicle.
EFFECTS OF POLLUTANTS IN VEHICLES
6. Adverse effects to human health include; a. Reduction in the amount of oxygen that can be
delivered to our body s organs and tissues, which can be life threatening caused by particles of carbon
monoxide. A mild

Employee Harassment And Employee Misconduct
Dealing with Employee Misconduct in Senior Communities
Every senior care community is vulnerable to the potential of employee misconduct. Besides the harm
employee misconduct causes to the senior being served and the care center s reputation, these
incidents can cost an organization millions.
Employee Misconduct Leads to a $64 Million Judgment in Georgia
A Georgia court found a residential care facility s staff and several other defendants liable for breach
of contract, negligent conduct, and invasion of privacy. The complaint filed by the mother/guardian of
a resident alleged that a Georgia facility responsible for providing services to persons with mental
disabilities did not supervise its employees, which led to the neglect and abuse of the residents.
In her complaint, the mother/guardian alleged that the employees at the facility beat her son on
numerous occasions, forced him to vote for a particular candidate in a local election (despite the fact
that he lacked the mental capacity to make such a decision on his own) and neglected to adequately
meet his needs. Furthermore, the plaintiff stated that the defendants were aware of the abuse but did
nothing to stop it. The plaintiff was awarded $64.6 million.
What Actions Are Considered Negligence?
Care center negligence has numerous definitions.
For example, the failure to provide adequate/required care to the residents is a form of negligence,
which can include neglecting to:
provide the residents with medication;

The Types Of Support That An End User May Require
Chapter 2: Literature Review
The four types of support that an end user may require are general support, functional support, data
support, and purchasing support. General support includes networks, software, hardware, and other
training related support (Govindarajulu, 2014). General Support is the only form of support that will
be included in this study. A university will on average work only with general support for their users.
While some authors (Gibson, 2014, for example) focus on a general overview of help desk
requirements, others PChelps (2008) look more closely at different aspects including costs, where
users get their support (Govindarajulu, 2014), and how to evaluate a help desk (Sheehan, 2007). This
case study will take a quantitative approach to evaluation of a help desk instead of a qualitative as
other researchers have conducted. This literature review will discuss how the help desk affects a
company s reputation, the costs it has to a company, how a help desk can be evaluated, and how to
improve a help desk s customer service.
Purpose of Help Desk
The purpose of a help desk is to provide internal users (employees or students) and external users with
technical support. This support is optimizing computer software, network troubleshooting, virus
removal, password resets, and any other types of computer related problems that the user may
encounter (Gibson, 2014). The help desk staff is generally the most likely to be contacted by users,
and are thereby

them one of my favorite singer named Alecia Beth Moore who born September 8, 1979, mostly
known by her stage name Pink (stylized as P!nk), is an American singer, songwriter, and actress. I
found most of her songs are full of emotions and inspiration. Probably her childhood and early life
influenced deeply her songs. Pink was second children of her parents. She did not have nice childhood
because of parent s divorce. This affected her mentally. I was never allowed to go over to any of my
friends houses when I was little, because I was the bad influence, she tells the Sunday Telegraph in

Utopian Safe Sex Talk
A life filled with purely similar beliefs is theoretically impossible to come by, unless somehow a
Utopian society is developed with distinct guidelines forcing identical ideals amongst everyone. Since
that hasn t occurred yet, it is important that as people we are able to see, respect and possibly even
learn from the beliefs and origins of others. How we grow from our experiences in differing
perspectives and ideologies, demonstrate who we are as humans. Growing up having a very close

She made sex sound taboo. She showed us pictures of STD s and STI s to further convey her point on
why not to have sex. She told us that our virginity is a sacred gift and how it should only be given to
the person we marry, not only did this automatically disqualify the portion of the kids who had already

environment. Public school is unique because of all the different views and ideals that compose it,
therefore I believe that teaching religious beliefs in a public school environment is incorrect. I felt that
the instructor was wrong in her teaching; instead of teaching impressionable kids the safe ways to

simply tell us not have sex and we would incoherently obey (which many of us

The Patriot Movie Analysis
The Patriot Essay
The Patriot is a movie which included several differences and similarities to the actual history of the
American Revolution, including a bias against the British. Directed by Ronald Emmerich, the movie
was a depiction of the American Revolution, with Benjamin Martin as our strong and fierce main
character.
There was a bountiful amount of similarities between The Patriot and the American Revolutionary war
including, first of all Cornwallis surrenders, taxation without representation , and the world changing
after the revolution. Cornwallis, the British general, surrenders to the American force. This happened
in both the movie and in history. This matters because, if the British didn t surrender the revolution
would still go on, so it should stay the same. Adding on, another similarity was the slogan, Taxation
without Representation. It was shown in the movie and in history. This slogan was for the stamp act,
since colonists didn t get to represent themselves in the British government. It was surely one of the
main reasons of the revolutionary war. Lastly, another similarity is that the world has changed. It has
changed overtime after the war, and the Americans had their own freedom, till this day. After the war,
King George lll said the world is now changing, by peasants basically the world changed, for the
Americans and British. In conclusion the movie included these points because it s significant, it has
changed the world in a way. Without

George Hobbes And Locke s Theories On Government, Human...
It is easy to compare certain things because of their proximity to one another and because of their
similar nature. For instance, I wrote about Basque and Catalonian independence in Spain. While it
may be apt to say that they are the same for a number of reasons. They were inherently different
because of the small details that change their trajectory to land close to each other but not in the same
place. Much is the same when comparing Hobbes and Locke s theories on government, human nature,
and natural law. Both may come to the same conclusion about the existence of natural laws and how
that shapes human nature. However, they disagree on what the natural law would be comprised of.
The same can be said for how differently they view the origins and role of governments. Hobbes
would argue that governments are made from power and fear, and serve the purpose of keeping the
covenant by protecting the inhabitants. Locke, on the other hand would argue that the basis of
governments is law, and that the purpose of governments is to protect property rights. These and other
factors will be examined to make a comparison and contrast of the two philosophers to determine if it
is apt to say their theories are identical. One of the main points of contention between these two
philosophers is whether the population has the right to revolt against its government. Locke would
argue that the people would have a right to revolt against their government. Hobbes would argue that
it is injust

Earth Pollution Essay
The earth is 4.543 billion years old, our ancestors are estimated to date back to six million years, with
modern human life dating back to 200,000 years ago (Reed). The effects of humanity on earth can be
displayed by the increase of pollution within our ecosphere. As our population continues to increase,
so does our carbon footprint upon the earth. On a more localized scale, the Central Valley is a mecca
of poor air quality and elevating pollution levels. An assortment of environmental factors increases
these pollution levels. The Central Valley is a hub for the climate, natural, industrial, mobile, and
agricultural components that equate to this growing pollution problem.
Pollution, otherwise known as PM, or particulate matter, which is essentially any substance that is not
made up of water. PM is most commonly made of dust, ash, smoke, fumes, vapors and mists, emitted
from a source and absorbed into the ozone. Particulate matter that is produced directly from a source,
is called primary PM. Particulate matter that is formed in the atmosphere, by gas, is called secondary
PM. There are two certified health based standards, classifying particulate matter: PM10, for particles
smaller than 10 microns, and PM2.5, for particles smaller than 2.5. Common PM10 is made up of
more course particles, sources include: crushing or grinding operations, soil stirred up in our valley s
vast fields, and dirt roads. PM2.5 is composed of finer particles created by elements most commonly

The I Set Out On A Road Trip
racy and I set out on a road trip to Santa Barbara to do a little site seeing and have some lunch. Having
left late, we were met by huge crowds and no parking. Wanting to enjoy some time away from home,
we decided to continue up the coast and go to Solvang. As we approached Solvang, we saw the sign
for Sunstone Winery. Having seen pictures and hearing about their cave, it didn t take much to
convince us to stop and see what they had to offer. Driving up and walking through a vine covered
archway, you are greeted by a French style Courtyards and a picnic ground where people are sitting
around enjoying the outdoors with a glass of wine. To the right of the vine covered archway is a
beautiful tasting room also reflecting the French motif. Across the courtyard are two large wooden
doors on a stone masonry structure that is built into the side of the hill. This is the location of their
barrel aging cave and is frequently used for special events by club members. Walking into the tasting
room we were warmly greeted by the staff of Sunstone. As we approached the bar, Jonathan Flores

The Disaster Of Nuclear Generating Station Essay
Abstract:
In the early morning hours of 28th March 1979, the worst disaster in the history of nuclear energy
production in the US took place. Unit Two of the Three Mile Island had a meltdown releasing some
amount of radioactivity into the surrounding area. The meltdown led to the possibility of Unit 2 of the
reactor facility to explode. The ramifications of the accident revealed the conceptual difficulties of
assessing social risks and the political difficulties in managing them (Nelkin, March 1981).This paper
aims at describing the accident, the post accident setup and clean up and the various losses which have
been attributed to the disaster. It also intends to develop an understanding of the various complex
issues and social vulnerabilities and risks that caused the disaster. The paper raises a very important
question about the safety of the nuclear power plants in the world and the risk the reactors pose to the
people and environment as a whole.
Introduction:
The Three Mile Island Nuclear Generating Station (TMI) is located in the Susquehanna River flowing
in the south of Harrisburg Town in the state of Pennsylvania, U.S. The generating station comprises of
two generating units TMI 1 and TMI 2. TMI 1 has a generating capacity of 852 MWe and the
commercial operation began in 1974.
Unit Two of the Three Mile Island Generating Station was similar in construction to Unit One. It was
of a slightly higher capacity than Unit One and the generating capacity was 906 MWe. The

Lord Of The Flies Femininity Analysis
Lord of the Flies is a novel written by the Nobel Prize winning author William Golding about a group
of schoolboy stuck on a deserted island, attempting to establish a well organized society but fail. The
story lacks a real female character. Hence, most critics pay no attention on this issue. Nevertheless, the
issue of femininity is implicitly presented in the story; male characters are rejecting the femininity. For
example, in the protagonist Ralph s memory, he never read one of the books standing on his shelf
because that is the book about two girls (Golding 112). Also, when the boys hair grow longer due to
the long stay on the island, they refuse to tie the hair back since it would be like girls (Golding 172).
The novel embodies the confrontation between masculinity and femininity. In light of this, this paper
argues that by considering Piggy the representative of femininity, Lord of the Flies illustrates how the
exclusive nature of masculinity repudiates femininity, which causes the final disintegration of the
society on the island.
Lord of the Flies depicts the disintegration of the order and the collapse of the harmony mainly
embedded in the conflict between Ralph and Jack, the two competing leaders in the novel. The story is
set in the middle of the raging war, when a plane evacuating a group of schoolboys from Britain is
shot down on a deserted island. Two of the boys, Ralph and Piggy, discover a conch and make use of
it to assemble other boys. Piggy, who is the

Jobs returned to Apple. Jobs came back into the company as was so innovative with his products,
creating easy to use, fast, reliable products at a rapid pace. Innovation comes from saying no to 1,000

Rhetorical Techniques Used In Frankenstein
In this passage from Frankenstein, author Mary Shelley uses several rhetorical devices to illustrate
Victor s anxieties in the creation of his monster. Throughout this passage, Shelley uses rhetorical
questioning to demonstrate Victor s horror in the awakening of his reanimated corpse. Shelly writes,
How can I describe my emotions at this catastrophe, or how delineate the wretch whom with such
infinite pains and care I had endeavoured to form? The rhetorical questioning used by Shelley puts the
reader in Victor s mind, to feel his astonishment at the living beast before him. The sense of fright
with some dread is perfectly depicted perfectly by the use of rhetorical questioning to show that even
the main character, Victor, is not even entirely sure as to what he has created. Yet another strong
rhetorical device in Shelley s writing is her implementation of vivid imagery. In this passage, Victor
describes his ghastly creation, His limbs were in proportion, and I had selected his features as
beautiful. Beautiful! Great God! Shelley was aware that the reader was unaware of the ... Show more

hellacious appearance of the creature, and to even go as far as to say that he is a being straight from
Hell. This statement allows the reader s own mind to take over and think for itself the horrid
appearance of the fiend. Furthermore, this allusion also does part in explaining where Victor may have
pulled inspiration from. Although he did not intentionally want to create a Satanic like figure, he

Assess The Role Of Tattooing In Non-Western Culture
The art of tattooing has been around for centuries, with origins dating back before the year 325, when
it was banned by the Roman Empire and made its return once again around the 18th century via
British explorers returning from Polynesia. Tattooing practices vary around the world, specifically in
their meaning and significance cross culturally. For instance, tattooing practices and significance in
Western cultures vary significantly than in non Western cultures. Specifically, in traditional cultures,
tattooing often marks a crucial period or a rite of passage in an individual s life, such as the transition
from childhood into adulthood. In Polynesian societies, specifically amongst the Maori people, the art
of tattooing plays a vital role ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Haviland, Kilmurray, Fedorak, Lee (2013) note one of the most intricate forms [of tattooing] is found
among the New Zealand Maori, whose moko, facial swirls, are chiselled into the face as a sign of
cultural pride (p. 319). Maori tattoos, known to the Maori people as moko, is a pre twentieth century
tattooing practice where the tattoo marks both the division and the link between the body and Maori
spirituality (Pritchard, 2000, 2001). Lévi Strauss (1963) notes that the Maori believed the body to be a
surface meant to be imprinted by culture, noting the purpose of Maori tattooings is not only to imprint
a drawing onto the flesh but also to stamp onto the mind all the traditions and philosophy of the group
(p. 257). In essence, the Maori people believed that an individual s life force is displayed by their
tattoos. For instance, Shand notes: For Maori ... [the] embracing sense of culture is guided by the
concepts of mauri [life force] and wairoa [spirit] which together inform all meaningful forms or
human occupation art and design (as cited in Pritchard, 2000, p. 345). Essentially, the tattooed skin of

Building Design of the Engineering and Computing Builiding...
Introduction
As an aspiring Architectural Technologist I will be expected to possess a variety of skills which are
valuable for any Architectural Technologist position. I will be studying and evaluating a building
design of the Engineering and Computing Building, Coventry. I am to assess the structure, identifying,
why the building was designed in the way it was, the impact, challenges and purposes. This will allow
me to understand the integration of architectural and structural design.
1.1 Design philosophy and aesthetics
The Engineering and Computing Building (ECB) was designed by Arup Associates and built by main
contractor Vinci. In designing this building Arup Associates were trying to create a sustainable
postmodern building, which would become a flagship for the university and a landmark in the centre
of the city. Designed to meet the university s long term needs in terms of improving the student
learning experience, using the building as a learning tool in itself.
The 15,000m² building is enclosed in a square, split into two L shaped blocks. Linked together by a
glazed entrance at the corner and separated by a large gap on the opposite corner.
The L block facing the south and west has been configured as the Nature block. This four storey
Nature wing features a green and blue roof planted with foliage, providing a variety of habitats to
encourage the local wildlife. Well known to attract insects that pipistrelle bats are known to prefer.

Compare And Contrast Bergson And Davis Theories
Philosophers over the years have attempted to generate their own theories of what makes a person
laugh. Bergson and Davis s theories have given people an indication of what that could be. Together
these philosopher s theories enlighten us to why people might laugh. Bergson and Davis s theories
limit us in explaining to the fullest extent of the workings of comedy. Bergson s theory has three
elements that he believes constitute why we laugh and claims, ...the mechanical encrusted upon the
living, promotes laughter (Bergson 10). While Davis s theory is concerned with the foundation of
laughter with incongruities and ambiguities. As well the audience, who finds something funny, instead
of the object that is funny. Bergson s theory begins ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Bergson articulates that commonly laughter transpires in a group, and people do not frequently laugh
in isolation. For instance, the example Bergson used was about a group of travelers laughing and a
bystander not affiliated with the group, not laughing. Because the bystander was isolated from the
group and not part of the joke, the bystander did not laugh. For this is a good example of no laughter
in isolation, but there are cases where people can be alone and laugh at themselves in isolation. A
person could trip over their kids toy and laugh because the toy was out of place, even though there
was not another person present laughing with them.
Bergson s three elements have strong observations, but there are components of it that are debatable
that can limit this theory. The first limitation would be concerning that we only laugh at objects that
we have stamped as human or ours. People can laugh at a variety of matters. Another issue would be
with the absence of feeling coinciding with laughter because a person can claim that laughing while
still feeling some sort of emotion is possible. For example, laughing about something that makes you
happy, in that moment you are feeling an emotion while laughing. A person could also say that
laughing is an emotion in itself.

The Military Of The Army Essay
Mission Command Army officer who in charge of leading military missions must bear in mind that his
success or failure is dependent on his commanding style. There are typical ways through which an
officer is more successful than the other is. Just think about why a great Greek s military leader,
Thucydides, failed to save the city of Amphipolis. He was distant from the army to protect the
important military strategic city. Thucydides failure was his absence that made his army
psychologically impotent and the enemy courageous. () Command presence was vital in classical
periods because of the limitation of means of communication. Leaders usually led their army through
direct involvement in detailed tasks. Command presence, more than influencing the army through
close relationship with subordinate, has also a great impact on the enemy army. As a classical custom
required leaders to take part in leading the army, many great leaders was successful by taking direct
command of the army on the front battle. The coalition army in Napoleonic War purposefully avoid
fighting where Napoleon had a direct command on the army. It is so evident that Napoleon presence
had psychological influence on his own army and had taken as a center of gravity by the coalition
army of Europe. Alexander the Great defeat the vast area of Asia Minor with small number of the

The Question Of Antibiotic Resistance
Introduction The question of antibiotic resistance is a growing phenomenon in contemporary society
and modern medicine; it pertains to pathogenic organisms and is one of the most eminent issues of
public health in the twenty first century. Though resistant genes are ancient, its increasing prevalence
poses a threat. It demands a greater need for antibiotic therapies. New resistance mechanisms may
spread globally and limit our ability to treat disease and lead to a giant hole in the pillars of modern
medicine. The immense increase in antibiotic resistance can be attributed to many factors. Along with
spontaneous gene mutation, natural selection, and cell to cell gene transfer, humans play a huge part in
the worsening of the epidemic. The Union of Concerned Scientists estimated in 2001 that more that
seventy percent of the antibiotics used in the United States are given to food animals without disease
to increase growth and decrease probability of mortality; medicine is used ensure and maximize profit.
The misuse of antibiotics leads to an increase in resistance in that it exposes bacteria to antibiotics
when this exposure is not necessary. Additionally, culturally ingrained practices of using antibiotics
sans prescription, sharing antibiotics with others, and over prescription and dispensing antibiotics
either incorrectly or needlessly due to the commercialization of medicine in combination with patients
exaggeration of disease symptoms all contribute to the excessive use

Server Virtualization And Software Virtualization
Server Virtualization Abstract: During past thirty years, the term concept of server virtualization has
invoked in order to allow the large expensive main frame servers to be used and shared among the
different application layered environments from various geographical locations. Server Virtualization
is a process of portioning the single main server into several server partitions . In clear terms to state,
main server is being used as many number of cloned severs where maximum programmers/users can
access that cloned server in their work area location locally satisfying the user requirements reducing
the cost effectiveness. Availability of hardware in market made virtualization concept to fade away. In
modern era, virtualization at the different levels alike network, storage and system has gained much
more importance in terms of improving the system security, reliability and availability. Server
Virtualization is a gate way for the organization in order to reduce their cost efficiency compared to
any other modern technologies. Concept of Server virtualization is the most effective and desired
method of executing and to make run on the different virtual operating systems which are collectively

  • 2. Slippery Slope Stories become a great influence on people as they view other people either on television or through a book as they explain their struggles or experiences. When meth became the drug of choice in Arizona, within a couple months entire neighborhoods were garbage strewn, and the physical effects of the drug became apparent in anyone using. Friends disappeared off the radar, to be seen a month later, unemployed, paranoid, scabbed and thin. I would like to learn more about the history and long term effects on the body from methamphetamines. In 1887, amphetamines were first produced in Germany and largely forgotten for forty years. In 1919, methamphetamine, a synthetic stimulant was developed by Japanese pharmacologist, A. Ogata. The drug helped with alertness and well being. In the 1930 s, methamphetamines were widely used to treat bronchial diseases and narcolepsy. The American Medical Association approved a tablet form in 1935 for ADHD. During WWII, German and Japanese pilots used methamphetamines to stay awake during long flights, while the U.S and U.K used amphetamines. After the war, Japan saw an epidemic of methamphetamine abuse. The drug was still being used legally into the 1950 s and 1960 s by everyone from homemakers to truck drivers for alertness and weight loss. In 1970 methamphetamines became regulated in the Controlled Substances Act and a public education campaign was mounted to educate people about the dangers of the drug. As I sit in these lectures, however, I see that claim hasn t fazed anybody. I should expect this, I mean, no kid is going to magically learn the rules of writing over the summer. I didn t. It took nine grueling months of an English class that, quite frankly, was hell on earth to learn most of them. The class was the toughest class I have ever sat through, and yet, I m blessed. I m in my second semester as a college student, and Sandra Stebbin s English class has saved me more times than I care to count. It s time for the United States education system to start taking grammar seriously. This is a huge concern, because our future leaders can t afford to have writing skills equivalent to a 7th grade middle school kid. I will start with a journey through a hellacious class focused around grammar. Coming into the WCSCC as a 12th grader, I was astonished at how little skill I had when it came to grammar. It still boggles my mind that it took twelve years of school before I met a teacher who really, really cared about how I composed my sentences. • 9. Hotspur Metaphors In Shakespeare s Henry IV, Part 1, Hotspur, the most talented young warrior in England, leads a rebellion against King Henry IV while, Hal, the king s seemingly lazy, indifferent son and heir to the throne, fights against Hotspur for the throne. Hal and Hotspur have a similar ideology as seen in their common metaphors; however, Hal speaks with various extended metaphors, biblical allusions, and strategically places his use of verse and prose while Hotspur speaks with simpler metaphors, war imagery, and mainly speaks in verse. Shakespeare emphasizes these speech patterns to demonstrate Hal s ability to manipulate the world to his benefit and Hotspur s extremely volatile sensibility, and thus, proves Hal to be more qualified to rule than Hotspur. Hal and Hotspur share some of the same metaphors, most notably, their common use of debt as a metaphor for honor and responsibility, which indicates how they both see these values in a mercantile fashion. In Hal s first soliloquy, he says he will pay the debt I never promised (I.2.77), a reference to his plan to act like a drunken thief, so when he becomes king, he will seem like a greater leader. Hal saying he will pay the debt , or him being an effective king, displays how he thinks that he can easily exchange his immature behavior for honor and that being a good king can instantly buy the favor of the people. Also, the word debt implies that Hal believes that the king has an important obligation to be honorable to the kingdom. Hotspur also uses the metaphor, saying King Henry IV Studies day and night / To answer all the debt he owes to you / Even with the bloody payment of your deaths (I.3.184 186). Because Hotspur s father and uncle helped King Henry take the throne, Hotspur believes that the king has a responsibility to treat them well, which he does not fulfill. This illustrates how Hotspur also views honor as a transaction: when given, it must be repaid. Both Hal and Hotspur believe that honor can be exchanged like goods, and they view honor, like debt, as a responsibility that must be maintained, indicating they understand the importance of honor in society. Hal and Hotspur share a similar ideology, but Hal s elevated language portrays him as more ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Motor vehicle use is now generally recognised as the source of more air pollution than any other single activity in cities around the world. The internal combustion engine of a vehicle produces power by burning fuel and changing the chemical energy of fuel into heat energy. The heat energy is then converted into mechanical power. Cars and trucks do not burn all of the fuel that goes into the combustion chamber. In fact, most vehicles only burn about 85% of the fuel and as the vehicle gets older less and less fuel is burned. It is this unburned fuel that produces some harmful products which are discharged from the engine and become air pollutants.[iv] Therefore, an engine s fuel system, and its emission controls are closely interrelated. That is why attention is given to the requirements of emission control in the design and operation of all parts of the fuel system in a vehicle. EFFECTS OF POLLUTANTS IN VEHICLES 6. Adverse effects to human health include; a. The complaint filed by the mother/guardian of a resident alleged that a Georgia facility responsible for providing services to persons with mental disabilities did not supervise its employees, which led to the neglect and abuse of the residents. In her complaint, the mother/guardian alleged that the employees at the facility beat her son on numerous occasions, forced him to vote for a particular candidate in a local election (despite the fact that he lacked the mental capacity to make such a decision on his own) and neglected to adequately meet his needs. Furthermore, the plaintiff stated that the defendants were aware of the abuse but did nothing to stop it. The plaintiff was awarded $64.6 million. What Actions Are Considered Negligence? The Types Of Support That An End User May Require Chapter 2: Literature Review The four types of support that an end user may require are general support, functional support, data support, and purchasing support. General support includes networks, software, hardware, and other training related support (Govindarajulu, 2014). General Support is the only form of support that will be included in this study. A university will on average work only with general support for their users. While some authors (Gibson, 2014, for example) focus on a general overview of help desk requirements, others PChelps (2008) look more closely at different aspects including costs, where users get their support (Govindarajulu, 2014), and how to evaluate a help desk (Sheehan, 2007). This case study will take a quantitative approach to evaluation of a help desk instead of a qualitative as other researchers have conducted. This literature review will discuss how the help desk affects a company s reputation, the costs it has to a company, how a help desk can be evaluated, and how to improve a help desk s customer service. Purpose of Help Desk The purpose of a help desk is to provide internal users (employees or students) and external users with technical support. • 18. The Patriot Movie Analysis The Patriot Essay The Patriot is a movie which included several differences and similarities to the actual history of the American Revolution, including a bias against the British. Directed by Ronald Emmerich, the movie was a depiction of the American Revolution, with Benjamin Martin as our strong and fierce main character. There was a bountiful amount of similarities between The Patriot and the American Revolutionary war including, first of all Cornwallis surrenders, taxation without representation , and the world changing after the revolution. Cornwallis, the British general, surrenders to the American force. This happened in both the movie and in history. This matters because, if the British didn t surrender the revolution would still go on, so it should stay the same. Adding on, another similarity was the slogan, Taxation without Representation. It was shown in the movie and in history. This slogan was for the stamp act, since colonists didn t get to represent themselves in the British government. It was surely one of the main reasons of the revolutionary war. Lastly, another similarity is that the world has changed. It has changed overtime after the war, and the Americans had their own freedom, till this day. For instance, I wrote about Basque and Catalonian independence in Spain. While it may be apt to say that they are the same for a number of reasons. They were inherently different because of the small details that change their trajectory to land close to each other but not in the same place. Much is the same when comparing Hobbes and Locke s theories on government, human nature, and natural law. Both may come to the same conclusion about the existence of natural laws and how that shapes human nature. However, they disagree on what the natural law would be comprised of. The same can be said for how differently they view the origins and role of governments. Hobbes would argue that governments are made from power and fear, and serve the purpose of keeping the covenant by protecting the inhabitants. Locke, on the other hand would argue that the basis of governments is law, and that the purpose of governments is to protect property rights. These and other factors will be examined to make a comparison and contrast of the two philosophers to determine if it is apt to say their theories are identical. One of the main points of contention between these two philosophers is whether the population has the right to revolt against its government. The effects of humanity on earth can be displayed by the increase of pollution within our ecosphere. As our population continues to increase, so does our carbon footprint upon the earth. On a more localized scale, the Central Valley is a mecca of poor air quality and elevating pollution levels. An assortment of environmental factors increases these pollution levels. The Central Valley is a hub for the climate, natural, industrial, mobile, and agricultural components that equate to this growing pollution problem. Pollution, otherwise known as PM, or particulate matter, which is essentially any substance that is not made up of water. PM is most commonly made of dust, ash, smoke, fumes, vapors and mists, emitted from a source and absorbed into the ozone. Particulate matter that is produced directly from a source, is called primary PM. Particulate matter that is formed in the atmosphere, by gas, is called secondary PM. There are two certified health based standards, classifying particulate matter: PM10, for particles smaller than 10 microns, and PM2.5, for particles smaller than 2.5. Unit Two of the Three Mile Island had a meltdown releasing some amount of radioactivity into the surrounding area. The meltdown led to the possibility of Unit 2 of the reactor facility to explode. The ramifications of the accident revealed the conceptual difficulties of assessing social risks and the political difficulties in managing them (Nelkin, March 1981).This paper aims at describing the accident, the post accident setup and clean up and the various losses which have been attributed to the disaster. It also intends to develop an understanding of the various complex issues and social vulnerabilities and risks that caused the disaster. The paper raises a very important question about the safety of the nuclear power plants in the world and the risk the reactors pose to the people and environment as a whole. • 23. Lord Of The Flies Femininity Analysis Lord of the Flies is a novel written by the Nobel Prize winning author William Golding about a group of schoolboy stuck on a deserted island, attempting to establish a well organized society but fail. The story lacks a real female character. Hence, most critics pay no attention on this issue. Nevertheless, the issue of femininity is implicitly presented in the story; male characters are rejecting the femininity. For example, in the protagonist Ralph s memory, he never read one of the books standing on his shelf because that is the book about two girls (Golding 112). Also, when the boys hair grow longer due to the long stay on the island, they refuse to tie the hair back since it would be like girls (Golding 172). The novel embodies the confrontation between masculinity and femininity. In light of this, this paper argues that by considering Piggy the representative of femininity, Lord of the Flies illustrates how the exclusive nature of masculinity repudiates femininity, which causes the final disintegration of the society on the island. Lord of the Flies depicts the disintegration of the order and the collapse of the harmony mainly embedded in the conflict between Ralph and Jack, the two competing leaders in the novel. The story is set in the middle of the raging war, when a plane evacuating a group of schoolboys from Britain is shot down on a deserted island. Rhetorical Techniques Used In Frankenstein In this passage from Frankenstein, author Mary Shelley uses several rhetorical devices to illustrate Victor s anxieties in the creation of his monster. Throughout this passage, Shelley uses rhetorical questioning to demonstrate Victor s horror in the awakening of his reanimated corpse. Shelly writes, How can I describe my emotions at this catastrophe, or how delineate the wretch whom with such infinite pains and care I had endeavoured to form? The rhetorical questioning used by Shelley puts the reader in Victor s mind, to feel his astonishment at the living beast before him. The sense of fright with some dread is perfectly depicted perfectly by the use of rhetorical questioning to show that even the main character, Victor, is not even entirely sure as to what he has created. Yet another strong rhetorical device in Shelley s writing is her implementation of vivid imagery. For instance, the example Bergson used was about a group of travelers laughing and a bystander not affiliated with the group, not laughing. For this is a good example of no laughter in isolation, but there are cases where people can be alone and laugh at themselves in isolation. A person could trip over their kids toy and laugh because the toy was out of place, even though there was not another person present laughing with them. Bergson s three elements have strong observations, but there are components of it that are debatable that can limit this theory. The first limitation would be concerning that we only laugh at objects that we have stamped as human or ours. People can laugh at a variety of matters. Another issue would be with the absence of feeling coinciding with laughter because a person can claim that laughing while still feeling some sort of emotion is possible. There are typical ways through which an officer is more successful than the other is. Just think about why a great Greek s military leader, Thucydides, failed to save the city of Amphipolis.
