Elements Of Mise-En-Scene
Snyder s usage of the elements of mise en scene creates the theme of inevitability by the camera
shots that were incorporated throughout the movie, the expression that the character had when they
were facing adversities, the choice of music that were incorporated during each of the scene and
how each one of the characters actions affected the outcome of how they were going to survive. An
example of one of the elements of mise en scene was the lighting during the scene when one of the
shuttles was overturned on the side of the road. The lighting in this scene created a feeling of
suspense and fear which causes the mood of the setting to become more intensified. The scene starts
with the mall shuttles making some sharp turns to reach the marina

The Enlightenment Ideas And Beliefs Of The Enlightenment
The Enlightenment was a period where many ideas were introduced to culture. Philosophers such
as Locke, Hobbs, Rousseau, Voltaire, and Wollstonecraft worked to usher in new ideas and
different ways of thinking. These ideas and beliefs influenced society in a positive way. Each of
these philosophers had different perceptions and beliefs on how a society should function. What
was their central idea? The philosophers of the Enlightenment believed in equality and freedom and
that society could be improved either economically, socially, politically, or religiously. Adam Smith,
a philosopher during the Enlightenment, believed that each man can pursue economics to make
money for himself. Adam Smith states, Every man...is left perfectly free to pursue his own interest
in his own way (Doc C). Smith is explaining that everyone has the freedom to use their own ways
and methods to satisfy their needs and interests. Smith also states, As every individual, therefore,
endeavors as much as he can both to employ his capital [money] in the support of ...industry, and
so to direct that industry that its produce may be of greatest value; every individual necessarily
[contributes to] the annual revenue of the society as great as he can (Doc C). This statement
explains that everyone works hard both to support the economy and support themselves. People
shouldn t rely on just their economy to survive. Instead, they should work to both help the economy
flourish and to provide for themselves. He

The Massacre at the Plaza de a Tres Culturas Tlatetolco
The massacre at the Plaza de la Tres Culturas Tlatelolco did not mark an end to the death and
disappearances of citizens at the hands of the government, as the massacre was the beginning of a
long government crackdown on its real and suspected enemies. Hundreds of people were killed
over the next 15 years. (QUOTE) The most well publicized example, under EcheverrГa s
administration occurred in June 1971, when government forces gunned down protestors in Mexico
City, killing 42 people and wounding at least 100. That day in June, students marched in support of
workers, freedom of expression in the universities, and the release of additional political prisoners.
Instead of assistance or steps towards peaceful conciliation, the students were again subjected to
violent governmental opposition. SOURCE While the government denied any involvement and
distanced itself from responsibility for the deaths, it was later uncovered that police had
collaborated with rightwing students who disapproved of the leftist politicsand participated in the
attack. Once again, despite the efforts by Echeverria s administration to display an image of
reconciliation, the substance of his politics was not at all different from the repression of the
previous administration.
Even though Echeverria attempted at reconciliation of some issues, these seemingly positive
reforms like increased funding for universities did not come without strings attached. While the
students protested for educational

The Negative Impact Of Technology s Impact On Society
Technology s Impact on Society
In 2002, during an interview with Wired Magazine Steven Spielberg said, Technology can be our
best friend, and technology can also be the biggest party pooper of our lives. It interrupts our own
story, interrupts our ability to have a thought or a daydream, to imagine something wonderful,
because we re too busy bridging the walk from the cafeteria back to the office on the cell phone
(Kennedy, para. 7). In the twentieth first century, we all have a certain kind of technologythat
makes our life easier in many ways from the most basic to the most complex, such as lighting, cell
phones, internet, cars, etc. When we think about technology, it suddenly reminds us of
entertainment, but it provides more than entertainment, it provides us with everything. It is
unthinkable that nowadays we can live without technology and yet, it influences us both positively
and negatively.
However, have people ever thought about how technology changes and affects us? According to
All Africa in Negative Effect of Technology on Society, due to the improvement of technology, it
has more control over our daily life because we revolve around it. Even though society is able to
adapt to the technology s advancement, it only looks for the benefits of its uses and is not aware
of technology s setbacks (All Africa, para. 1). The analogous of the pros and cons of technology s
usages has been discussed over the years, but just as Spielberg says, technology is great as long

Bulfinch s Mythology Analysis
Mythology is a subjective truth. Every culture imagines life a certain way Devdutt Pattanaik

discloses the cultural inferences through the readings. As told in Bulfinch s Mythology by Thomas
Bulfinch, cultural aspects are revealed in Prometheus and Pandora, Apollo and Daphne, and
Hercules. This includes, societal roles determined by sex and morals. Societal roles determined by
sex is also reveled in Prometheus and Pandora. [D1: Position] Thomas Bulfinch displays this when

that he could kill an enemy because he had killed Python. With Cupid being small in stature and

Furthermore, Daphne s father insisted on a son in law, Her father often said to her, Daughter
you owe me a son in law; you owe me children (Bulfinch 28). [E3: Quote] Traditionally, the role

Witches In Macbeth Essay
Hi, I m Maddy Foster and this is another episode of Which Witch is Which? Today we re going to
talk about the witches, also known as the weГЇrd sisters, in Macbeth.
Macbeth is Shakespeare s shortest play, but arguably his darkest and most powerful creation. King
James I commissioned Shakespeare to write this play for his amusement sometime around 1606. It
deals with an array of themes including revenge, guilt, violence, insanity and also the supernatural.
Shakespeare based Macbeth mainly on an Elizabethan report of Scotland s history called Holinshed
s Chronicles , written by popular a historian at the time pictured here, but also referred to a few
other sources. Macbeth features an interesting hybrid cast between the natural and supernatural. ...

In fact, the witches bear a striking and obviously intentional resemblance to the fates, female
characters who weave the fabric of human lives and then cut the threads to end them. They speak
in almost chant like rhyme with paradox and equivocation, Fair is foul and foul is fair (Act 1,
Scene 1, Lines 11 12) and Double, double toil and trouble; Fire burn, and cauldron bubble (Act 4,
Scene 1, Lines 10 11).
At the time Macbeth was written, necromancy was feared and witches had developed into a
serious and ever present social concern. Bear in mind that those accused of witchcraft 90% of the
time were just old, poor, unprotected, single or pet owning women. Nonetheless, witches were
perceived as evil, sub human servants of the devil. Shakespeare therefore introduced the witches
knowing that they would grip an audience, as anything to do with witchcraft would create fear. In
fact, Macbeth is the 17th century s equivalent to a modern day horror

Nv200 Week 3 Swot Analysis Of Nissan
Did you know Nissan has a burgeoning commercial vehicle business? This Japanese automaker with
a huge manufacturing and distribution presence in the United States has pickup trucks, vans, and
taxis designed with commercial customers in mind. With this division, Nissan has successfully
carved out a significant slice of business in a highly competitive segment.
One of those vehicles is the NV200, a compact cargo van expressly designed to meet the needs of
business enterprises. The NV200 is the ideal complement to the full size NV, itself a competitor to
the Ford Transit, Chevrolet Express, and GMC Savana. The NV was introduced in 2012.
As for the NV200, it followed the larger van to the market in 2013 and directly competes against

Key Safety Features
Neither the NHTSA or the IIHS has crash tested the Nissan NV200.
You do get such standard safety equipment such as a suite of airbags, vehicle dynamic control, and
a tire pressure monitoring system.
Opt for the rear sonar system package ($250) if you frequently back your vehicle into place. This
system works when the ignition is on and the transmission shifter is in reverse. The system detects
obstacles behind the vehicle as far away as six feet. As you move the NV200 closer to the obstacle,
the rate of the warning tone will increase. The tone shifts to a continuous output when you re within
one foot of the obstacle, effectively signaling you to stop the van. It is a switch operated system
too, one you can turn off on demand. The system automatically resets when the ignition is turned
off and best works at speeds no higher than 3 mph.
On the Road
Nissan offers one powertrain combination with the NV200. A 2.0 liter four cylinder engine making

The Mythology Of The Greek Mythology
Nowadays people remember Ancient Greece somewhat, pieces here and there, taught briefly in your
common high school global history class. What most people often forget is that the Ancient Greeks
were and still are such a great influence towards our Western culture. Of course, they are not the
only ones who have contributed to our knowledgeable society. Though, when it comes to the
category of psychology I believe that the Ancient Greeks contributed the most, specifically with
their mythology.
A myth is defined as a traditional or legendary story, collection, or study. It is derived from the
Greek word mythos, which simply means story. The Greek myths had many purposes to the
Greeks such as teaching a moral lesson, explaining the origins of the world, explaining the
origins of the gods and their relationships with humans, and why certain events occurred in
nature. The authors of each myth were said to be divinely inspired by the Muses. The Muses
were the goddesses of artistic inspiration. These Muses were thought to whisper in the ear of the
author the adventures of the gods. Thus, myths held a sacred place in ancient Greece as they were
seen to be divinely inspired and were meant to express an important message about life or the gods
to the people.
Not only was mythology important to the Ancient Greeks, but forward a couple millenniums later
and a great psychologist was influenced by the importance of the myths as well Sigmund Freud.

An Interesting Software Design Technique
3.3DOMAIN DRIVEN ARCHITECTURE
An interesting software design technique to understand and solve complexity is Domain Driven
Design (DDD). Domain Driven Design advocates modeling based on the reality of business as
relevant to our use cases. As it is now getting older and hype level decreasing, many of us forget that
the DDD approach really helps in understanding the problem at hand and design software towards
the common understanding of the solution. When building applications, DDD talks about problems
as domains and subdomains. It describes independent steps/areas of problems as bounded contexts,
emphasizes a common language to talk about these problems, and adds many technical concepts,
like entities, value objects and aggregate root rules to support the implementation. Sometimes these
technical rules are perceived as hard barriers implementing the DDD, but at the end, people tend to
forget that the important part is to organize code artifacts in alignment with business problems and
using the same common, ubiquitous language.
Domain modeling helps to identify and separate tangled implementations, if you are lucky to have a
domain model to guide you. If you don t already have a domain model for an existing application
(which is generally true in most cases), instead of going through the code to understand the
different responsibilities, building a domain model and mapping the capabilities to the application
at hand can probably be a better approach. This will both save

Warm Blooded Versus Cold Blooded Dinosaurs Essay
Warm Blooded Versus Cold Blooded Dinosaurs
At a time, scientists believed all dinosaurs were cold blooded. However, with a recent discovery of
a dinosaur found with a fossilized heart in the northern part of South Dakota in 1993, many
paleontologists are starting to think that there were some dinosaurs that were warm blooded.
Dinosaurs were first believed to be cold blooded because they were thought to be related closely to
reptiles which are cold blooded creatures. Cold blooded animals don t actually have cold blood,
instead they rely on the temperature from their environment to regulate their own body
temperature. They do this by taking advantage of external heat by basking in the sun, and by lying
... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Because warm blooded animals don t have to rely on their environment for body temperature,
they are able to hunt at any time of the day or in any season, which is a great advantage over cold
blooded animals. Therefore this type of intense activity needs a fast metabolism which is much too
high for a cold blooded animal. Secondly, cold blooded animals have a hard time living in cold
climates and dinosaur fossils have been found in the colder environments (Eschberger). However,
scientists believe warm blooded animals would have suffered from the heat in warmer climates,
where many fossils have been discovered. Beverly Eschberger discusses how dinosaurs must have
been only warm blooded animals due to the factors of, bone structure, and histology, growth rates,
predator to prey ratios, speed and agility, rate of evolution, similarities with birds, and insulation.
She also explains the disadvantages of being a warm blooded animal: a much larger expenditure of
energy to maintain elevated metabolism and a commensurate increase in food requirements
(Eschberger). Just as the conclusion that dinosaurs were truly warm blooded becomes clearer,
factors from the cold blooded side switch everything around. Gigantothermy, rate of food supply,
respiratory turbinates and lung structure all cause scientists to believe dinosaurs were in fact cold
blooded. There have been many attempts to find the real resolution of whether or not dinosaurs
were warm or cold

How Does Septimus Institutionalize Grief
Even though Woolf tried often to hide her feelings, many knew of her distress, as she makes
these inner battles obvious through her short story, Mrs. Dalloway. This story is of Clarissa who
is throwing a grand party shopping and Septimus who is a man who had to leave the war on
account of him slowly losing his sanity. Septimus commits suicide when brought back from the
war. The two characters lives are connected when the doctor who was treating Septimus arrives at
the party and tells Clarissa about the tragedy that has just occurs. The connection between the
main character and the author can be made when she contemplates and admires a man for having
the courage to throw him out of a window to end his suffering. Clarissa ponders to herself She felt
somehow very like him the young man who had killed himself. She felt glad that he had done it;

Dalloway, WooIf explores the debilitating effects of feminizing and medicalizing grief that leave
Septimus without any legitimate means to express his sorrow... Septimus s mourning is
pathological. In Freud s terms, he is suffering from melancholia. Because Septimus has
internalized an excess of stoicism in the Great War, he reacts by expressing his grief in self
abnegation. Men, especially soldiers, don t cry. The authoritarian rest cure will not help him;
Septimus s own way out is suicide. (145) Woolf is able to translate her true suicidal thoughts
which she had kept concealed for so long in this manner. She communicates through the
characters in her story that when people feel there is no way to end the pain one feels and
sometimes suicide is the only option. Woolf expresses her true disappointment in her mistreatment
through her doctor and also subtly criticizes gender roles. Because Septimus is a male, he is not
allowed to feel sadness or pain. This character choice shows that even in men, keeping feelings
hidden the way the new world is evolving can drive a person to extreme

Summary Of Erikson s Stages Of Psychosocial Development
Today I am going to narrate and reflect on one of my elderly relative s life using Erikson s stages
of psychosocial development, which consist of eight stages from infancy to adulthood. When I
asked Harold if I could do my life narrative paper on him, he brought up concerns about how
accurate his life would be portrayed in the paper, because he knows that I am a writer and I
might consider using this piece as inspiration for a novel or a short story. I quickly ensured him
that I would not turn in this paper until he was happy with my portrayal of his life. He suggested
that I do the paper in the style of Rolling Stone magazine interviews and I agreed because in that
style, I would be narrating his narrative of his life, while adding my own psychology perspective
on it, making it an academic paper that still stays honest to his perspective. We began the interview
at a restaurant near the intersection of 44th Street and Eastern called New Beginnings. I ordered a
meat lover s omelette with shredded hash browns and water, Harold ordered scrambled eggs with
diced hash browns and coffee. He mentioned that his mother used to make the best scrambled eggs,
which was a natural transition into starting the interview with a conversation about his mother.

The Italian Campaign For World War II
The Italian Campaign The Italian Campaign put Allied troops in Europe. Lesser objectives of
the invasion included a chance to capitalize on the collapse of Italian resistance; to immediately
use Allied forces; to engage German forces that could be sent to Russia and northern France; to
take control of airfields that could be used for bombing missions; and to gain control of the
Mediterranean. Casablanca Conference Planning: Believing the North African campaign would
be over quickly, American and British leaders began discussing their next move. While the British
favored pushing north through Sicily and Italy, the Americans wanted a direct, cross Channel
attack. Since this required detailed discussions, a conference between Roosevelt, Churchill, and
their senior leadership was scheduled. The two leaders chose Casablanca for the meeting.
Casablanca Conference The Talks: The talks consisted mostly of planning an invasion of southern
Europe. It was felt that invading Italy would take Benito Mussolini s troops out of the war and
force Germany to shift forces. This would weaken the Nazi position in France, allowing for a later
invasion. Operation Husky The main forces for the invasion of Sicily were the U.S. 7th Army
under Patton and the British Eighth Army under Montgomery. The invasion began on July 10,
1943, with combined air and sea landings involving 150,000 troops, 3,000 ships and 4,000 aircraft,
all aimed at the southern shores of the island. Operation Husky ended

by the establishment of economic and political domination over other nations. In this case, the
Portuguese wanted to acquire the lands belonging to the natives because of economic reasons.
The major theme of this movie is represented in a quote. This quote is, The church is the bride of
Christ, she is also the cross on which he is daily crucified. The Bride of Jesus Christ is not a what,
it s a who. She is the many membered body of Jesus Christ that is carrying on the Message sent
to her from God, she is the Church. For the marriage of the Lamb is come, And His wife hath
made herself ready. Revelation 19:7, and And there came unto me one of the seven angels
which had the seven vials full of the seven last plagues, and talked with me, saying, Come hither,
I will shew thee the bride, the Lamb s wife. Revelation 21:9, are two quotes from the Bible

which he is daily crucified, to me seems to be talking about the Eucharist and mass. Everyday the

The Pros And Cons Of Ham Radio
When an emergency arises natural disasters like wildfires, tornadoes, hurricanes, earthquakes, or
other man made accidents or deliberate disruptions cell phone networks are often overloaded or
inoperative. Emergency responders are overwhelmed. Travel and access are frequently restricted.
Throughout it all, ham radio remains operative and trustworthy, with robust, autonomous
communicationnetworks to keep you informed and to connect one with their family members when
it really counts. It has been debated whether Ham Radio should be the main form of communication
during emergencies in the United States. Ham Radio has been used in the United States since

These operators have to prove their knowledge of Ham Radio through a series of tests, which
they must pass to be able to use the frequencies. These ladies and men work hard to serve the
community diligently and maintain the frequencies. They have been proven to be effective
leaders when it comes to saving lives on both a local and national scale. As one site puts it: They
do this on three main levels: the local level, which would cover disasters like a nuclear
meltdown; state level, which would cover more widespread menaces like hurricanes; and the
national level, which might involve a mass evacuation in the event of a devastating hurricane or
the loss of national communications services due to space weather events (Jared). This site
gives an idea about how helpful these technicians can be in a crisis, so as one can see, this is no
small matter at hand. Thus, Ham Radio operators practice weekly, or even daily, to ensure that the
lines and frequencies are ready to use. As one citizen recounts in an article, What makes us useful
is the things we do when nothing is happening, when no big events are going on, and then using
the skills we learn through regular practice to assist during a crisis to add capability and capacity,

Marcus Tuly Research Paper
Marcus Tullius Cicero or commonly known as Cicero, was a major Roman philosopher in late
50 BC. Cicero, or Tully as some refer to him as, was a lawyer, politician, orator, poet and so
much more during his era(Wikipedia). Tully was born January 3rd, 106 BC, in Arpinum of the
Roman Republic. Arpinum is currently Lazio of Italy, Tully and his younger brother Quintus was
raised by their mother Helvia and father, Marcus Tullius Cicero It is common to see sons named
after their fathers at roman time(TheFamousPeople). As far as geniuses go, Cicero is perhaps the
greatest noble of the Roman Republic in his time.
Out of Cicero s many achievements, was that of when he worked as a politician and Consul. At a

But Cicero believed that money had no value, the only thing that was important was proper
pleasure, reason and virtue. Power and approval meant nothing to Marcus and the stoic
teachings he read. These teachings were somewhat based off of Democritus s theory, that
everything was made up of atoms and no God existed(Clayton, Edward). Edward Clayton also
mentions that Cicero made six paradoxes. The beliefs discussed are as follows: moral worth is
the only good; virtue is sufficient for happiness; all sins and virtues are equal; every fool is
insane; only the wise man is really free; only the wise man is really rich (Clayton, Edward).
These writings are his arguments on his views of Stoicism. Though Cicero didn t believe in a
Godly figure he does mention why religion is healthy. Religion was useful because it helped to
control human behavior and could be used as a tool for public policy; and in this context
divination could be useful too (as when an unwise political decision was prevented by the
announcement that the omens were unfavorable)(Clayton Edward). To a surprise, Cicero
believed in free will, but never on fate. When circumstances arrive, and his stoic beliefs, he
acknowledges that humans have a divine right to free will; even as stoic teachings clearly state
that its followers must overcome emotions. Assumptions were proven true as free will seems to be
a second strength for Roman civilization. Marcus took kindly to his growing ambition and support
as time flew by. The iconic dreams and knowledge was not to last for dear Cicero, Mark Antony
despised him as Cicero s proud outspokenness finally caught up to him. December 7th, 43 BC,
Cicero was sentenced to suicide by his own hand, his body parts of his head and hands were later
displayed by Antony. By this time Tully had already divorced two wives and had two children;

Masculinity and Gender Roles
How is gender and gender roles socially constructed? Soulliere states that gender is a cultural
creation that is frequently developed by and represented through popular cultural media such as
advertisements, music, sports, and entertainment television (Soulliere 2006). The article Wrestling
with Masculinity: Messages about Manhood in the WWE by Danielle M. Soulliere (2006),
examines messages about manhood revealed by televised professional wrestling (Soulliere 1).
Messages concerning masculinityand manhood were investigated and compared to the cultural
version of masculinity (Soulliere 2006). Soulliere s research proves that the World Wrestling
Entertainment(WWE) depicts messages, which supports the dominant hegemonic form of
masculinity (Soulliere 2006). To further grasp and understand Soulliere s hypothesis, we must first
examine her research methods and outcomes.
Soulliere states that television programs and advertisements such as the WWE provide gender and
social role models (Soulliere 2006). Soulliere references that the dominant form of masculinity is
associated with various male characteristics that consistently appear in the media. Such attributes
include violence and aggression, emotional restraint, toughness, risk taking, physical strength,
courage, power and dominance, competitiveness, and achievement and success (Soulliere 2006).
Additionally, presentation of men in sports continues to reaffirm the traditional hegemonic notion
of masculinity and Soulliere

Persuasive Essay On Women And Leisure
Women and Leisure Since the beginning of time, men and women have been categorized
differently and given their own set of expectations and constraints. Still to this day, the differences
among genders are labeled throughout society, and especially for women, this creates a drawback
in the hope for equality. There has been increasing improvements in the last 100 years for men and
women to gain identical rights and treatment, although this does not mean things are perfect in the
least bit. Women have been given an identity and when they step away from the norm, negative
reactions make it apparent of how society feels women ought to conduct themselves. Planted roles
within genders are seem to be taught as early as possible, giving guidance to children on how to
behave and what is normal for their sex. Toys are often decided for them, as well as sports interests
and clothing. Whenever a child ventures into the opposite sex s territory, it is often viewed as
embarrassing or unacceptable. This unfortunately can lead a child to mask their true interests and
curiosities, which potentially can bottle up over the years and result negatively. Women have been
directed this way from their childhood, up until their retirement, being told what they are suppose to
do and what they aren t. The different stages throughout their lives, come with their own
expectations. Things like marriage, children, particular job fields, certain hobbies, etc. are all

Witch Hunts In The 19th Century
From the 1480s to early 1800s, mass hysteria erupted throughout the European continent. These
cases of witches and demonic possession, along with minor events of hysteria that ran rapid
throughout Europe. This resulted in suspicions and persecutions that continue today.
Most witch hunts were started during backdrops of social, economical, or religious change. The
generalized stress branched from these backdrops, including the epidemics and natural disasters,
seem to be the major cause of all hysterical outbreaks. Such as some malign conspiracy, one of the
rumor panics, was attempting to destroy the Christian religions through poison, witchcraft and

death varied from the 26,000 estimated deaths in Germany to the lowest four deaths in Ireland.

Martin Luther King Just Law Analysis
Justice is considered a consequence for an acted committed by another, that benefits the most
amount of people. My personal interpretation of what justice means is different from Martin
Luther King, as he describes just laws as laws that uplift personality. What he means by this is that
there should be laws in place that do not dehumanize people, whether it is done physically, socially,
or legally. He specifically touches upon justiceand injustice in regards to law. He defines an
injustice law as one that degrades human personality; dehumanizing, in my own words, is the
process of making a person feel less than others or giving unequal benefits or deficits based on
traits that are out of the average person s control. On the contrary, just laws is the opposite of
doing this, making it the act of evening out a wrongdoing, and preventing such acts from
occurring in the future, from a societal standpoint. Furthermore, this includes equal opportunity
and treatment in regards to traits out of our control. This double edged sword also comes with
justifying punishment for action we have control over. If an action someone performs while
exercising free will is considered by the majority to be immoral, then it is justifiable to punish
them for it. If there is no choice made by a person, how can a person justly punish them for it?
These injustices in society are the responsibility of the people, supported by inquiry by Dr. King in
his Letter From Birmingham Jail.

Vodka Memories of My Past
I have come to the conclusion that the past, which is merciless and perilous, is a foreign country,
and it cannot be altered. The past lives differently from the present, just as the future will live
differently from the very moment you begin to breathe air. Yet somewhere in the back of my mind
is this obsession. Whether this obsession has been drawn from the idea that my future will stay the
same as this exact moment is speculation, which I shall ignore till the day I die.
The other day I was looking at a ship, now in dreams ships can be glorious and beautiful or they
can hold every shattered dream. You can watch them sail away with distain, or pleasure. It s been
long told that if you see a ship in the distance, all of your dreams and aspirations sit staring back
at you. But the ships already gone you can t chase those dreams as you can in the movies, when the
girl runs after the train, praying that the man will see and get off.
I have a single packet of cigarettes, sitting in the middle of an empty room. Yes, they are for
emergencies. That one moment that I feel myself break and I mean truly break, I shall rush to this

fresh start, turning over the page, and getting ready to stain the whiteness with a tea stain, ringing
the corner, and destroying the purity.

Analysis Of Martian Chronicles By Ray Bradbury
The Martian Chronicles, by Ray Bradbury, is a fictional account of the colonization of Mars by
humans. The human s arrival leads to the destruction of the Martian race and society, quickly
followed by the destruction of the human race during a nuclear war. The book features themes of
time, nostalgia, progress, and the clashing of cultures. Night Meeting, a short story from The
Martian Chroniclescollection, takes places after humans have settled on Marsand most of the
Martians have died out. A young man, Tomas Gomez, has a phantom encounter with a Martian,

dust and clocks and people (citation). Here, the narrator introduces the idea of time as a physical
object. This causes the reader to think introspectively about how time would appear if it could be
perceived in three dimensional space and what would happen if the lines between physical and
temporal were to blur. Bradbury continues to foreshadow the main event of the story: [T]onight
Tomas shoved a hand into the wind outside the truck tonight you could almost touch Time

Finally, Tomas stops at his truck at the fateful location where he will come across the phantom

uses his telepathic ability to instantly learn Tomas language: Tomas felt his head touched, but no
hand had touched him. There! said the Martian in English. That is better! Again there is a distortion
of what is physical, and what is not; Tomas feels a hand touch him when none did, and, in fact, he
cannot even touch the Martian physically. Instead the Martian has touched Tomas mind. This is

Piaget v. Vygotsky
Piaget vs. Vygotsky Both Jean Piaget and Lev Vygotsky have had a huge impact on learning and
teaching methods. Although they have different views on how children learn, they both suggest
helpful methods of teaching. Piaget and Vygotsky both focus on the idea of constructivism.
Constructivist theories believe learning includes real world situations, language, interaction, and
collaboration with others. Piaget believed in cognitive constructivism and Vygotsky believed in
social constructivism. They both had logical ideas with some similarities, but their theories also
differed. First off, Piaget was a strong believer in cognitive constructivism and offered that children

He believed that a child must interact with the social environment on an interpersonal level. Once
this has occurred, the child can internalize their experience and construct new ideas. For Vygotsky,
culture and social context are critical in learning and he believed that s when children learn the best.
He came up with the ZPD, which stands for zone of proximal development. The ZPD is the
distance between what a learner can do with help and what they can do without help. He thought
that children learn best within this zone because it advances their learning and challenges them.
Vygotsky believed that with the help of a teacher or mentor, students could understand concepts that
they wouldn t be able to know on their own. A classroom including Vygotsky s social
constructivism theory would include meaningful content and content that relates to the real world.
Teacher student and student student interaction are key in the classroom according to Vygotsky
and will produce strategies such as questioning, summarizing, predicting, and clarifying. A
similarity between Piaget and Vygotsky is that they both provided views on cognitive development
using constructivism. They were both interested in furthering the learning of children using
cognitive processes. Also, another similarity that they share is that they both believed that societal
influences established cognitive growth in children. They agreed that

The Problems of Drug Addiction
Drug addiction A reasonable number of people do not understand why other people get addicted
to drugs. Some even associate drug abuse and addiction with lack of moral principles or
willpower. People subscribing to this school of thought believe that drug addicts can stop using
drugs by simply changing their behavior. They fail to realize that drug addiction is a complex
disease whose eradication calls for many things other than changing habits. Drugs basically
change the way a human brain works. Drug addiction like any other disease can be treated and
addicts helped to lead productive lives (Office of National Drug Control Policy, 2004). Drug
addiction has far reaching ramifications on individuals and society. It leads to decline in
productivity and a surge in health and crime related costs. In the United States, these costs
exceed $600 billion annually. These costs include $181 billion for illicit drugs, $193 billion for
tobacco, and $235 billion for alcohol. These costs do not bring into perspective the breadth of
destructive public health and safety implication of drug abuse and addiction like family
breakages; loss of employment; failure in school; domestic violence; and child abuse which are
not factored in (Office of National Drug Control Policy, 2004). Decision to take drugs is normally
voluntary. However, changes in brain after protracted use makes one to loose self control and
ability to resist intense impulses that urges him to take drugs. Drug s

We analyze how competitive dynamics within the Mexican retail sector have shifted following the
entrance and ascendance of Wal Mart, and how Mexican retailers have responded individually and

To analyze these competitive interactions, we draw on the competitive dynamics stream of research
within strategic management (e.g., Grimm Smith, 1997; Smith, Ferrier Ndofor, 2001; Ketchen,

industry following the entrance and dominance of Wal Mart. We conclude with a discussion of the
implications for both theory and practice.
1. Competitive Dynamics between Dominant Multinationals and Emerging Market Firms
Emerging economies are generally characterized by a rapid pace of economic growth, increasing
liberalization of trade and investment regimes, and economic restructuring (Hoskisson et al, 2000).
Mexico, for instance, maintained high trade barriers and imposed strict limitations on foreign
investment through the mid 1980s. From the point at which Mexico joined the General Agreement
on Tariffs and Trade in 1986 through the implementation of the North American Free Trade
Agreement with Canada and the United States in 1994 and a broad range of similar agreements
with other countries, Mexican firms became increasingly exposed to competitive pressures from
foreign firms in the form of imported products as well as foreign owned operations in Mexico. In
this respect, the Mexican experience is similar to that of emerging economies throughout Latin
America (which also moved away from import substitution industrialization toward a more

Religion In Western Europe During The Middle Ages
There was one main religion in Western Europe during the Middle Ages. This religion was Roman
Catholic Christianity. It was both unifying and separating in some ways. Unlike now, religion
served various functions, and was the main cultural aspect in people s lives. The Christian
patriarch was more powerful than European kings, and wealthier. In the name of religion, wars
were fought and people were executed. On the other hand, the church had positive effects on the
society as it provided basic social services, improved architectural styles, supported scientific
research in some areas, and founded the first universities. l When the Romans left Europe, they left
a disorganised territory with many rivalling tribes and decreasing culture. When tribal lords took on
Christianity, however, religion became a unifying force among those Germanic tribes . This was
possible because the Church was the only institution that had developed a useful bureaucracy. Later
on, the tribes changed into small kingdoms. The Pope, as the head of the Catholic Church, became
eventually more powerful than any of the kings and even had the right to appoint kings. Church

guinea pig each day is important to your guinea pig s happiness, set aside plenty of time to play
with your pet. Consider giving your guinea pigs some floor time each day, let them loose in an
enclosed space, but make sure you are closely watching. You can set up a pen in a room preferably
an area with easy to clean floors in case of accidents, or outside if it isn t too hot or cold. Make sure
to have plenty of space in their exercise area so that they can run and play. Make sure to put a

Examples Of Chivalry In Canterbury Tales
Chivalry first appeared around 10 AD in France. Chivalry comes from the french word chevalier,
or knight. It was a code of conduct for knights of the church to follow. Chivalry commands knights
to fight for the church, never lie, and respect all weakness. Chaucer uses the knight as an example
of chivalry in the Canterbury Tales. The knightis a well valued man who has participated in many
battles throughout his life. When the knight tells his tale, chivalry is one of the main themes.
Interestingly enough, it is believed that The Knight s Tale is actually used to poke fun at the ideas
of chivalry and courtly love. In The Knight s Tale Chaucer satirizes the code of chivalry and
courtly love through exaggeration and violation of the codes.... Show more content on

First of all, Theseus builds a very expensive and unnecessary arena for the two knights to fight in
so now the lists were made, and Theseus who, at a huge cost, had bidden them to produce these
temples in a theatre to stately, saw it finished, and it pleased him greatly (Chaucer 59). In
addition, Theseus allows Palamon and Arcite a year to gather soldiers that each take his
freedom east or west, and without ransom or constraint of war; and a year later, neither less nor
more, shall return, bringing 100 knights (chaucer 52). Lastly, Theseus allows, and even suggests
a battle over his sister in law, Emily whichever of you proves to be the greater knight... can drive
his foe to the stake, or take his life, to him I shall give Emily to wife (Chaucer 53). Duke theseus
intends to make this unimportant event a spectacle for his people to observe. The Duke wastes
time, energy, and money on this small event. In addition, Chaucer seems to spend a good amount
og time describing the preparations and time leading up to the fight. In contrast, Chaucer spends
very little time describing the actual

The Bell Curve Research Paper
The idea many people often perceive about intelligence today is how smart you are and what you
re capable of remembering off the top of your head. It can be looked at as a black and white topic:
your smart or you re not. But intelligence is much more than this, and there are many forms of
intelligence. What a person is intelligent in often leads them into an occupation they are able to be
skilled at. The fight between intelligencestemming from genetics or the environment is still present
today. Of the different types, interpersonal intelligence is in other words, being people smart.

Herrnstein and Charles Murray, evidence shows that intelligence is to a significant extent
inherited. Since 1994 when the book was published, there has been more research on the topic
of where it comes from. The battle still exists between stemming from our surrounding
environment or being in the genes. Sue Ramsden at University College London did an IQ study
with some of her colleagues on 33 adolescents. She did the study 3 4 years later and found the
adolescents test scores increased, some dramatically. This evidence shows that intelligence can
change throughout one s life. Upbringing plays a role in an individual being able to explore
their own mind and intelligence. If a child is raised without encouragement and direction, they
may have a negative view and a harder time wanting to explore knowledge. Reading to child
when they re young, traveling to other cities/states, and communication all are factors in opening
the mind of children at a young age that can carry on into adulthood. But here s where the
controversy comes in. Some children and adolescents who did not have a good upbringing, had a
rocky childhood and un directive parents still have turned out to be straight A students and have a
high, and growing, intelligence in one or more areas. Everyone has different abilities and finding
what that is can look easy to some people whereas some may have a more difficult

How Washington s Role And Legacy Has Been Manipulated By...
Kush Patel
Word Count: Edward G. Lengel, author of Inventing George Washington, brings a different
approach to writing historical books. He has collected and sifted through virtually all mediums of
Washington s life. Through his work I found a central theme of how Washington s role and legacy
has been manipulated by society. Lengel displays the way writers, critics, and religious leaders
changed George Washingtons identity for their own personal benefits; they have altered his
religious orientation and his public image in both good and bad ways.
George Washington s religious beliefs have always been altered or unclear to the American society.
Lengel ponders, Washington considered attendance at religious services to be a civic duty. He
believed that morality and the unfettered practice of religion ensured the prosperity of a well
organized society (77). Washington was only partially religious to please the common people.
He was selfless in doing what was in the best interest of his nation than himself. By taking the
role of president, he had to sacrifice his own beliefs. The Valley Forge prayer incident was
commonly disfigured by many. The story began when a Quaker, by the name of Isaac Potts, saw
Washington in prayer, according to Mason Locke Weems. After the initial story, others began
twisting it to their liking by adding horses or barns. As Lengel states, The image of Washington in
prayer became iconic (86). Artist painted Washington in various scenes depicting

Social Media And Its Impact On The Workplace Essay
Social media becomes important in people s lives despite age, gender, social level, profession,
language or locality. Modern technologies are used by individuals including student nurses
across the world for different purposes, such as, to stay up to date with worldwide news;
exchange information or ideas and share views; aid in recovery and education; keep in touch
with family and friends. This comes with great responsibilities for nurses not only to become
confident social media users and incorporate this knowledge into practice for patient and nurses
benefits, but also to be aware of organisational policies and legislations in the workplace to avoid
consequences on a legal, ethical and professional level for improper use of social media (Kientz
Kupperschmidt, 2011, p.1).
Social media can also known as social networking. As Kaplan and Haenlein (2010, p.61) defined, a
group of Internet based applications that build on the ideological and technological foundations of
Web 2.0, and that allow the creation and exchange of user generated content (as cited in Spector
Kappel, 2012, p.1), by utilising social media platforms which may include Post Casting, Video
Hosting, Blogging, Microblogging, Social News Sharing and Social Networking such as LinkedIn,
Facebook and Forums. Face to face communication in the past is continually being replaced by
virtual communication between people in modern society. Some students argue that there are a lot

Delta Goodrem Persuasive Speech
When people say Delta Goodrem is one of Australia s most successful musicians, they are not
exaggerating. Since the singer s debut Born To Try, which came out in 2002 at the age of 17,
she has amassed over eight million record sales, has had three #1 albums, and has achieved eight
#1 singles. Known for her soaring piano based pop melodies, Goodrem has returned to her iconic
sound with her latest single, Wings, and after debuting at #8 on the ARIA charts, it seems Australia
has fallen in love with the musician all over again. I think I ve always been a pop writer that writes

the situation. I think you have to have fun along the way. I have a good laugh with my family
and friends about things that come up. If they aren t true, we laugh a lot. That s really, I think,
the most important thing. Ultimately, the singer maintains her solid relationship with fans. I have
a lot of great, wonderful people who support me out there. I m very, very lucky. I ve had a very
unique relationship with everyone. Having lived out many highs and lows through her career,
Goodrem s latest musical offering encapsulates the heartbeat of a singer who simply adores
making music for others. With warmth that transcended our phone interview for a routine press

Essay about The Identity and History of the Caribbean
The Identity and History of the Caribbean
The Caribbean is a vastly diverse area representing the effects of colonialism, slavery, and the
combination of many cultures.
Since the arrival of Europeans the Caribbean islands have been going through constant change. The
loss of native peoples and the introduction of the plantation system had immediate and permanent
reprocussions on the islands. The Plantation system set up a society which consisted of a large,
captive lower class and a powerful, wealthy upper class. As the plantation systems became
successful labor was needed in order to progress. Slavery became the answer to the problem.
Slavery played an important role in the how the economy changed the islands because there was a

that one must agree with Mintz that the plantation seems indispensable to studying the societies of
the area. In my opinion, nonetheless, the plantation could turn out to be an even more useful
parameter; it could serve as a telescope for obswerving the changes and the continuities of the
Caribbean galaxy through the lenses of multifold disciplines... (38). Benitez Rojo includes the
history of the plantations and how the history affected the culture of the islands. For example, one

Metaphors In Popular Culture
Literature, movies, and TV signify various aspects of culture and society using metaphors.
Monsters (e.g., vampires, werewolves, zombies, witches, and mermaids) are, sometimes, cultural
metaphors; they reflect culture issues. The portrayal and the features of such abnormal creatures
have been changed over the years as popular culture has changed. Vampirestories, one in particular,
have undergone a transformation from gothic subgenre to a romantic subgenre. Today, the
popularity of vampires has crossed over to create a vampire subgenre. Draculaand Twilight are two
celebrated work in vampire fictionin which vampires appeared differently in each work. Thereby,
this paper aims to discuss the differences in portraying vampires in Dracula and Twilight, and the
cultural significances which Dracula and Twilight symbolize.
Paul Murgatroyd, in Mythical Monsters in Classical Literature, explains the origin of the word
monster. He states that it is originally monstrum a Latin word which refers to preternatural
situations or evil creatures and it is related to the word moneo that means caution and alert (202).

vampires are savage and manipulative who tempt and fascinate their victims until they subsided

during the ninth century literature, according to Hobbs, is to use them as an indication of evil,
corruption and the abusive force that uses the life and soul of an innocent victim, one which must
be destroyed by human society (110). Victorian vampires behave fiercely immoral and plan on

Aromaticity Of Pyridine Lab Report
Aromaticity and reactions of pyridine Introduction
Pyridine is a nitrogen containing aromatic analogue of benzene. The N in pyridine is sigma
bonded to two atoms and has a lone pair, and is therefore sp2 hybridized.
This leaves one electron in an unhybridized p orbital, which contributes to the system, making a
total of 6, and therefore an aromatic molecule (5 x C H contribute 5 electrons, N contributes 1, =
6, 4N+2). The lone pair on the N is in an sp2 orbital, which means it is directed away from the ring
but in the same plane.
The lone pair of electrons are not involved in the aromatic system, and stick out away from the
molecule.

Hicok And Terrell Summary
An important aspect about the readings from Hicok (2000) and Terrell (1999) is that the two of
them were focusing on minority students, who first language is not English. Information about the
level of reading and knowledge about phonemics makes a great difference to understand the type of
population that the researchers were working on.
One thing that I would like that Hicok (2000) share with the readers was to explain the meaning
of ESL B2 students. On page 3, the author mentioned that there were 22 seventh grade students in
three different sciences classes who were ESL B2. I assume that B2 could be Block 2 if the school
have its school year by block. However, that information is not available in the researcher s paper.
Hicok (2000) mentioned the use of quiz and tests as part for describing the qualitative data that the
author was gathering, however, there is no report on this paper about the tests scores of the
students. The author said that more time is needed to analyze the quantitative data about tests and
scores.
Regarding ethics, I think that both authors failed in protecting the confidentiality of the students.
First, both studies have been done at Fairfax County (VA) Public Schools District (Hicok, 2000;
Terrell, 1999). By knowing the school district, it will be easy ... Show more content on

  • 2. Elements Of Mise-En-Scene Snyder s usage of the elements of mise en scene creates the theme of inevitability by the camera shots that were incorporated throughout the movie, the expression that the character had when they were facing adversities, the choice of music that were incorporated during each of the scene and how each one of the characters actions affected the outcome of how they were going to survive. An example of one of the elements of mise en scene was the lighting during the scene when one of the shuttles was overturned on the side of the road. The lighting in this scene created a feeling of suspense and fear which causes the mood of the setting to become more intensified. The scene starts with the mall shuttles making some sharp turns to reach the marina ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. The Enlightenment Ideas And Beliefs Of The Enlightenment The Enlightenment was a period where many ideas were introduced to culture. Philosophers such as Locke, Hobbs, Rousseau, Voltaire, and Wollstonecraft worked to usher in new ideas and different ways of thinking. These ideas and beliefs influenced society in a positive way. Each of these philosophers had different perceptions and beliefs on how a society should function. What was their central idea? The philosophers of the Enlightenment believed in equality and freedom and that society could be improved either economically, socially, politically, or religiously. Adam Smith, a philosopher during the Enlightenment, believed that each man can pursue economics to make money for himself. Adam Smith states, Every man...is left perfectly free to pursue his own interest in his own way (Doc C). Smith is explaining that everyone has the freedom to use their own ways and methods to satisfy their needs and interests. Smith also states, As every individual, therefore, endeavors as much as he can both to employ his capital [money] in the support of ...industry, and so to direct that industry that its produce may be of greatest value; every individual necessarily [contributes to] the annual revenue of the society as great as he can (Doc C). This statement explains that everyone works hard both to support the economy and support themselves. People shouldn t rely on just their economy to survive. Instead, they should work to both help the economy flourish and to provide for themselves. He ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Massacre at the Plaza de a Tres Culturas Tlatetolco The massacre at the Plaza de la Tres Culturas Tlatelolco did not mark an end to the death and disappearances of citizens at the hands of the government, as the massacre was the beginning of a long government crackdown on its real and suspected enemies. Hundreds of people were killed over the next 15 years. (QUOTE) The most well publicized example, under EcheverrГa s administration occurred in June 1971, when government forces gunned down protestors in Mexico City, killing 42 people and wounding at least 100. That day in June, students marched in support of workers, freedom of expression in the universities, and the release of additional political prisoners. Instead of assistance or steps towards peaceful conciliation, the students were again subjected to violent governmental opposition. SOURCE While the government denied any involvement and distanced itself from responsibility for the deaths, it was later uncovered that police had collaborated with rightwing students who disapproved of the leftist politicsand participated in the attack. Once again, despite the efforts by Echeverria s administration to display an image of reconciliation, the substance of his politics was not at all different from the repression of the previous administration. Even though Echeverria attempted at reconciliation of some issues, these seemingly positive reforms like increased funding for universities did not come without strings attached. • 7. The Negative Impact Of Technology s Impact On Society Technology s Impact on Society In 2002, during an interview with Wired Magazine Steven Spielberg said, Technology can be our best friend, and technology can also be the biggest party pooper of our lives. It interrupts our own story, interrupts our ability to have a thought or a daydream, to imagine something wonderful, because we re too busy bridging the walk from the cafeteria back to the office on the cell phone (Kennedy, para. 7). In the twentieth first century, we all have a certain kind of technologythat makes our life easier in many ways from the most basic to the most complex, such as lighting, cell phones, internet, cars, etc. When we think about technology, it suddenly reminds us of entertainment, but it provides more than entertainment, it provides us with everything. It is unthinkable that nowadays we can live without technology and yet, it influences us both positively and negatively. However, have people ever thought about how technology changes and affects us? According to All Africa in Negative Effect of Technology on Society, due to the improvement of technology, it has more control over our daily life because we revolve around it. Even though society is able to adapt to the technology s advancement, it only looks for the benefits of its uses and is not aware of technology s setbacks (All Africa, para. 1). The analogous of the pros and cons of technology s usages has been discussed over the years, but just as Spielberg says, technology is great as long ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Macbeth is Shakespeare s shortest play, but arguably his darkest and most powerful creation. King James I commissioned Shakespeare to write this play for his amusement sometime around 1606. It deals with an array of themes including revenge, guilt, violence, insanity and also the supernatural. Shakespeare based Macbeth mainly on an Elizabethan report of Scotland s history called Holinshed s Chronicles , written by popular a historian at the time pictured here, but also referred to a few other sources. In fact, the witches bear a striking and obviously intentional resemblance to the fates, female characters who weave the fabric of human lives and then cut the threads to end them. They speak in almost chant like rhyme with paradox and equivocation, Fair is foul and foul is fair (Act 1, Scene 1, Lines 11 12) and Double, double toil and trouble; Fire burn, and cauldron bubble (Act 4, Scene 1, Lines 10 11). At the time Macbeth was written, necromancy was feared and witches had developed into a serious and ever present social concern. Bear in mind that those accused of witchcraft 90% of the time were just old, poor, unprotected, single or pet owning women. Nonetheless, witches were perceived as evil, sub human servants of the devil. Shakespeare therefore introduced the witches knowing that they would grip an audience, as anything to do with witchcraft would create fear. • 11. The Mythology Of The Greek Mythology Nowadays people remember Ancient Greece somewhat, pieces here and there, taught briefly in your common high school global history class. What most people often forget is that the Ancient Greeks were and still are such a great influence towards our Western culture. Of course, they are not the only ones who have contributed to our knowledgeable society. Though, when it comes to the category of psychology I believe that the Ancient Greeks contributed the most, specifically with their mythology. A myth is defined as a traditional or legendary story, collection, or study. It is derived from the Greek word mythos, which simply means story. The Greek myths had many purposes to the Greeks such as teaching a moral lesson, explaining the origins of the world, explaining the origins of the gods and their relationships with humans, and why certain events occurred in nature. The authors of each myth were said to be divinely inspired by the Muses. The Muses were the goddesses of artistic inspiration. These Muses were thought to whisper in the ear of the author the adventures of the gods. Thus, myths held a sacred place in ancient Greece as they were seen to be divinely inspired and were meant to express an important message about life or the gods to the people. • 14. An Interesting Software Design Technique 3.3DOMAIN DRIVEN ARCHITECTURE An interesting software design technique to understand and solve complexity is Domain Driven Design (DDD). Domain Driven Design advocates modeling based on the reality of business as relevant to our use cases. As it is now getting older and hype level decreasing, many of us forget that the DDD approach really helps in understanding the problem at hand and design software towards the common understanding of the solution. When building applications, DDD talks about problems as domains and subdomains. It describes independent steps/areas of problems as bounded contexts, emphasizes a common language to talk about these problems, and adds many technical concepts, like entities, value objects and aggregate root rules to support the implementation. Sometimes these technical rules are perceived as hard barriers implementing the DDD, but at the end, people tend to forget that the important part is to organize code artifacts in alignment with business problems and using the same common, ubiquitous language. Domain modeling helps to identify and separate tangled implementations, if you are lucky to have a domain model to guide you. If you don t already have a domain model for an existing application (which is generally true in most cases), instead of going through the code to understand the different responsibilities, building a domain model and mapping the capabilities to the application at hand can probably be a better approach. This will both save ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 15. Warm Blooded Versus Cold Blooded Dinosaurs Essay Warm Blooded Versus Cold Blooded Dinosaurs At a time, scientists believed all dinosaurs were cold blooded. However, with a recent discovery of a dinosaur found with a fossilized heart in the northern part of South Dakota in 1993, many paleontologists are starting to think that there were some dinosaurs that were warm blooded. Dinosaurs were first believed to be cold blooded because they were thought to be related closely to reptiles which are cold blooded creatures. Cold blooded animals don t actually have cold blood, instead they rely on the temperature from their environment to regulate their own body temperature. They do this by taking advantage of external heat by basking in the sun, and by lying ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Because warm blooded animals don t have to rely on their environment for body temperature, they are able to hunt at any time of the day or in any season, which is a great advantage over cold blooded animals. Therefore this type of intense activity needs a fast metabolism which is much too high for a cold blooded animal. Secondly, cold blooded animals have a hard time living in cold climates and dinosaur fossils have been found in the colder environments (Eschberger). However, scientists believe warm blooded animals would have suffered from the heat in warmer climates, where many fossils have been discovered. Beverly Eschberger discusses how dinosaurs must have been only warm blooded animals due to the factors of, bone structure, and histology, growth rates, predator to prey ratios, speed and agility, rate of evolution, similarities with birds, and insulation. She also explains the disadvantages of being a warm blooded animal: a much larger expenditure of energy to maintain elevated metabolism and a commensurate increase in food requirements (Eschberger). Just as the conclusion that dinosaurs were truly warm blooded becomes clearer, factors from the cold blooded side switch everything around. Gigantothermy, rate of food supply, respiratory turbinates and lung structure all cause scientists to believe dinosaurs were in fact cold blooded. There have been many attempts to find the real resolution of whether or not dinosaurs were warm or cold ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

How Does Septimus Institutionalize Grief Even though Woolf tried often to hide her feelings, many knew of her distress, as she makes these inner battles obvious through her short story, Mrs. Dalloway. This story is of Clarissa who is throwing a grand party shopping and Septimus who is a man who had to leave the war on account of him slowly losing his sanity. Septimus commits suicide when brought back from the war. The two characters lives are connected when the doctor who was treating Septimus arrives at the party and tells Clarissa about the tragedy that has just occurs. Men, especially soldiers, don t cry. The authoritarian rest cure will not help him; Septimus s own way out is suicide. (145) Woolf is able to translate her true suicidal thoughts which she had kept concealed for so long in this manner. She communicates through the characters in her story that when people feel there is no way to end the pain one feels and sometimes suicide is the only option. The beliefs discussed are as follows: moral worth is the only good; virtue is sufficient for happiness; all sins and virtues are equal; every fool is insane; only the wise man is really free; only the wise man is really rich (Clayton, Edward). These writings are his arguments on his views of Stoicism. Though Cicero didn t believe in a Godly figure he does mention why religion is healthy. My personal interpretation of what justice means is different from Martin Luther King, as he describes just laws as laws that uplift personality. What he means by this is that there should be laws in place that do not dehumanize people, whether it is done physically, socially, or legally. He specifically touches upon justiceand injustice in regards to law. He defines an injustice law as one that degrades human personality; dehumanizing, in my own words, is the process of making a person feel less than others or giving unequal benefits or deficits based on traits that are out of the average person s control. On the contrary, just laws is the opposite of doing this, making it the act of evening out a wrongdoing, and preventing such acts from occurring in the future, from a societal standpoint. Furthermore, this includes equal opportunity and treatment in regards to traits out of our control. This double edged sword also comes with justifying punishment for action we have control over. If an action someone performs while exercising free will is considered by the majority to be immoral, then it is justifiable to punish them for it. Constructivist theories believe learning includes real world situations, language, interaction, and collaboration with others. He believed that a child must interact with the social environment on an interpersonal level. Once this has occurred, the child can internalize their experience and construct new ideas. For Vygotsky, culture and social context are critical in learning and he believed that s when children learn the best. He came up with the ZPD, which stands for zone of proximal development. The ZPD is the distance between what a learner can do with help and what they can do without help. He thought that children learn best within this zone because it advances their learning and challenges them. Vygotsky believed that with the help of a teacher or mentor, students could understand concepts that they wouldn t be able to know on their own. A classroom including Vygotsky s social constructivism theory would include meaningful content and content that relates to the real world. Teacher student and student student interaction are key in the classroom according to Vygotsky and will produce strategies such as questioning, summarizing, predicting, and clarifying. A similarity between Piaget and Vygotsky is that they both provided views on cognitive development using constructivism. • 34. The Problems of Drug Addiction Drug addiction A reasonable number of people do not understand why other people get addicted to drugs. Some even associate drug abuse and addiction with lack of moral principles or willpower. People subscribing to this school of thought believe that drug addicts can stop using drugs by simply changing their behavior. They fail to realize that drug addiction is a complex disease whose eradication calls for many things other than changing habits. Drugs basically change the way a human brain works. Drug addiction like any other disease can be treated and addicts helped to lead productive lives (Office of National Drug Control Policy, 2004). Drug addiction has far reaching ramifications on individuals and society. It leads to decline in productivity and a surge in health and crime related costs. In the United States, these costs exceed $600 billion annually. These costs include $181 billion for illicit drugs, $193 billion for tobacco, and $235 billion for alcohol. These costs do not bring into perspective the breadth of destructive public health and safety implication of drug abuse and addiction like family breakages; loss of employment; failure in school; domestic violence; and child abuse which are not factored in (Office of National Drug Control Policy, 2004). Decision to take drugs is normally voluntary. However, changes in brain after protracted use makes one to loose self control and ability to resist intense impulses that urges him to take drugs. From the point at which Mexico joined the General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade in 1986 through the implementation of the North American Free Trade Agreement with Canada and the United States in 1994 and a broad range of similar agreements with other countries, Mexican firms became increasingly exposed to competitive pressures from foreign firms in the form of imported products as well as foreign owned operations in Mexico. It was both unifying and separating in some ways. Unlike now, religion served various functions, and was the main cultural aspect in people s lives. The Christian patriarch was more powerful than European kings, and wealthier. In the name of religion, wars were fought and people were executed. On the other hand, the church had positive effects on the society as it provided basic social services, improved architectural styles, supported scientific research in some areas, and founded the first universities. l When the Romans left Europe, they left a disorganised territory with many rivalling tribes and decreasing culture. When tribal lords took on Christianity, however, religion became a unifying force among those Germanic tribes . This was possible because the Church was the only institution that had developed a useful bureaucracy. Later on, the tribes changed into small kingdoms. Lengel, author of Inventing George Washington, brings a different approach to writing historical books. He has collected and sifted through virtually all mediums of Washington s life. Through his work I found a central theme of how Washington s role and legacy has been manipulated by society. Lengel displays the way writers, critics, and religious leaders changed George Washingtons identity for their own personal benefits; they have altered his religious orientation and his public image in both good and bad ways. George Washington s religious beliefs have always been altered or unclear to the American society. Lengel ponders, Washington considered attendance at religious services to be a civic duty. He believed that morality and the unfettered practice of religion ensured the prosperity of a well organized society (77). Washington was only partially religious to please the common people. He was selfless in doing what was in the best interest of his nation than himself. By taking the role of president, he had to sacrifice his own beliefs. The Valley Forge prayer incident was commonly disfigured by many. The story began when a Quaker, by the name of Isaac Potts, saw Washington in prayer, according to Mason Locke Weems. • 53. Metaphors In Popular Culture Literature, movies, and TV signify various aspects of culture and society using metaphors. Monsters (e.g., vampires, werewolves, zombies, witches, and mermaids) are, sometimes, cultural metaphors; they reflect culture issues. The portrayal and the features of such abnormal creatures have been changed over the years as popular culture has changed. Vampirestories, one in particular, have undergone a transformation from gothic subgenre to a romantic subgenre. Today, the popularity of vampires has crossed over to create a vampire subgenre. Draculaand Twilight are two celebrated work in vampire fictionin which vampires appeared differently in each work. Thereby, this paper aims to discuss the differences in portraying vampires in Dracula and Twilight, and the cultural significances which Dracula and Twilight symbolize. Paul Murgatroyd, in Mythical Monsters in Classical Literature, explains the origin of the word monster. He states that it is originally monstrum a Latin word which refers to preternatural situations or evil creatures and it is related to the word moneo that means caution and alert (202). Monsters have been used in literature since ancient history in poetry, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Michelle Hobbs discusses the characteristics of vampires. She claims that the nineteenth century vampires are savage and manipulative who tempt and fascinate their victims until they subsided without knowing the vampires real intention (45). They were restricted in a specific instruction based on religion, denoting the Catholic concept of good and evil. The significance of vampires during the ninth century literature, according to Hobbs, is to use them as an indication of evil, corruption and the abusive force that uses the life and soul of an innocent victim, one which must be destroyed by human society (110). Victorian vampires behave fiercely immoral and plan on human to use them as a meal ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 54. Aromaticity Of Pyridine Lab Report Aromaticity and reactions of pyridine Introduction Pyridine is a nitrogen containing aromatic analogue of benzene. The N in pyridine is sigma bonded to two atoms and has a lone pair, and is therefore sp2 hybridized. This leaves one electron in an unhybridized p orbital, which contributes to the system, making a total of 6, and therefore an aromatic molecule (5 x C H contribute 5 electrons, N contributes 1, = 6, 4N+2). The lone pair on the N is in an sp2 orbital, which means it is directed away from the ring but in the same plane. The lone pair of electrons are not involved in the aromatic system, and stick out away from the molecule. Pyridine is aromatic, and displays aromatic characteristics such as high resonance energy (27kcal /mol), ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Hellwinkel, D. (1998). • 56. Hicok And Terrell Summary An important aspect about the readings from Hicok (2000) and Terrell (1999) is that the two of them were focusing on minority students, who first language is not English. Information about the level of reading and knowledge about phonemics makes a great difference to understand the type of population that the researchers were working on. One thing that I would like that Hicok (2000) share with the readers was to explain the meaning of ESL B2 students. On page 3, the author mentioned that there were 22 seventh grade students in three different sciences classes who were ESL B2. I assume that B2 could be Block 2 if the school have its school year by block. However, that information is not available in the researcher s paper. Hicok (2000) mentioned the use of quiz and tests as part for describing the qualitative data that the author was gathering, however, there is no report on this paper about the tests scores of the students. The author said that more time is needed to analyze the quantitative data about tests and scores. Regarding ethics, I think that both authors failed in protecting the confidentiality of the students. First, both studies have been done at Fairfax County (VA) Public Schools District (Hicok, 2000; Terrell, 1999). By knowing the school district, it will be easy ... It is important that when an action research is performed, the researcher must obtain permission from parents and participants, ensure confidentiality, have informed consent, respect the research site, and guarantee the safety of participants (Efron Ravid, ...
