ISLAM
REL1006S: COURSE ESSAY
Discuss how Islam is a quest to be faithful to the transcendent, both directly and through social
engagement
Islam is a religion based on the belief in one God, His messenger and the four other pillars. These five
pillars are central to Muslims, followers of Islam and mould their beings and are part of their everyday
lives. This essay will look at the abovementioned pillars, what they are and how they form part of the
quest to be faithful to the transcendent. Mention will also be made to how Islam plays out in everyday
life, thus how this quest is and can be done both directly and through social engagement.
Firstly, we need to establish who or what the Transcendent is. I would like to describe the ... Show

This again, makes reference to the remembrance of those who are not as fortunate, specifically, fellow
Muslim brothers and sisters and the importance of togetherness in order to once again, please Allah,
following in the Prophet s footsteps.
The fifth and last pillar of Islam is the Hajj. The Hajj refers to the holy pilgrimage to Makkah, acts
done at and around the Ka bah, the house of God and also other precise and detailed series of rituals as
prescribed. The gathering of all pilgrims on the plains of Arafat, men dressed in nothing but two cloths
and women in plain white thobes (form of Islamic dress), is the highlight and most important part of
the journey for pilgrims. Here one s previous sins are forgiven and lots and lots of supplication are
made to God (Online Source Al Islam.org). The white attire that is prescribed is so that no one Muslim
can be socially distinguished from the other. This is the one place where everyone is equal and no
judgement can be made. The five pillars that are central to Islam make it evident that through these
various ways, Muslims are governing their lives correctly, according to Allah, following the way of
His messenger and as a result, brought closer to Him on a spiritual level. Allah is never objectified and
one cannot then be physically closer to Him.
There are also other acts of worship that can be done in order to become closer to

Social Scientist Phrase, Presentation Of Self, And Self
In this modern day world people may continuously confuse similarly used words, and often think they
mean the same thing. However, in reality they don t. Nonetheless, the main focus words are identity,
and self. Identity to me is similar to social scientist phrase presentation of self , and what that means is
how a person wants to present themselves to others. Similar to actors, and singers that are
constructively criticized by their image, so they can better it to wow their fans. In contrast to self
which is being true to who you are. As seen in When the Emperor was Divine the family struggle with
knowing their self, and identity. The family begins as middle upper class materialistic people in
California that are nameless with a sense of family unity, and self worth. Eventually transforming to
isolated, exhausted, loss souls having to wear ID numbers on their collar (p. 24). Starting off with the
father which is a very symbolic character since he is only spoken about in memories, and letters. Even
so far away his family describes him as loving, caring, and warm hearted. The children would say Our
father, the father we remembered, and had dreamed of, almost nightly, all through the years of the war,
was handsome and strong. He moved quickly, surely, with his head held high in the air. He liked to
draw for us. He liked to sing for us. He liked to laugh (p. 132). All to show that to them he was
everything you d want in a father, but after war he turned into a ghost Because

The Importance Of Leadership In Athletic Training
The research article uses a two phase, exploratory, non experimental research study to examine the
leadership competencies that are important for athletic training practice and education. The study
consists of a hundred and sixty one certified athletic trainers surveyed on the importance of leadership
competencies. The study found that no matter the setting there is evidence that leadership competence
is an important aspect to athletic training. According to Kutz, leadership is the ability to ethically
influence others toward accomplishing a goal or objective (2010). The survey of the certified athletic
trainers found that diagnosing context and people skills were the most important leadership behaviors
among athletic trainers. Diagnosing context is the practitioner s ability to identify changing
environments to determine appropriate care. The leadership competency of people skills help
practitioners diagnoses their context. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Kutz explained that everyone has a degree of leadership buried within that can be taught or found
through experience (2010).
The study describes the several positives outcomes associated with leadership in athletic trainers. The
positive outcomes include: leadership in others, credibility, new or strengthened relationships,
consensus, motivation, higher morale, dedication of followers, learning, mutual respect,
empowerment, critical thinking, positive change, innovation, creativity, a sense of direction and hope
for the future, stronger sense of community, personal growth, and satisfaction and contentment (Kutz,
2010). Leadership is an important skill for athletic trainers to have and can be used within different

Choosing Favorite Beatles Songs
Choosing favorite Beatles songs is a bit like choosing a favorite child, it s damn near. They put out
four psychedelic albums (if you count Yellow Submarine, which I m not), and three post psychedelic
albums. In the 8 years they recorded, they released 12 studio albums, not counting the US releases as
many of those were compilation records. To be honest, I was never a huge fan of the mop tops era
Beatles and songs like I Want to Hold Your Hand and She Loves You. However, I did include a few
from that time period. I would love to hear your top 10 to see if we match up at all.
Number Ten: All You Need Is Love. Written after only two weeks after the release of Sgt. Pepper, All
You Need Is Love was specifically written for the first satellite hookup between 25 countries called
Our World. The song boasted an optimistic vibe during the summer of love in 1967. The song featured
many prominent artists singing on the chorus. Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, Marianne Faithful, and
Eric Clapton were just a few of the talents who appeared on the recording. The track also included
many guest musicians playing everything from violin to trumpet. The Beatles themselves played
unconventional instruments: Lennon on harpsichord, McCartney on double bass and Harrison on
violin. The track was made available on Magical Mystery Tour and Yellow Submarine.
Number Nine: In My Life. Again, Lennon credits Bob Dylan as well as journalist Kenneth Allsop for

The Importance of Brown V. The Board of Education Essay
The Importance of Brown V. The Board of Education To understand the importance of Brown V. The
Board of Education of Topeka, one must take into account the gravity of the prevailing law and
attitude that existed in 1954. In 1896, the Supreme Court established the separate but equal doctrine in
the case of Plessy V. Ferguson. Essentially the court was saying that blacks should be treated equally
but due to an obvious difference, race, blacks could be treated equally but separate. Justice Henry
Brown wrote in his majority opinion; The object of the Fourteenth Amendment was undoubtedly to
enforce the absolute equality of the two races before the law, but in the nature of things it could ...

In fact a series of cases from Kansas, South Carolina, Virginia and Delaware all found their way to the
Supreme Court. But a distinguished attorney with the NAACP named Thurgood Marshall brought
Linda Browns case to prominence. By this time, Thurgood Marshall was an experienced Supreme
Court advocate. He had already challenged all white primary elections in Smith V. Allwright, and
restrictive covenants in Shelley V. Kraemer. His style was straightforward and plainspoken. He held
no punches and got to his point without a lot of dramatics. When asked for a definition of the word
equal by Justice Felix Frankfurter, Marshall replied, Equal means getting the same thing, at the same
time, and in the same place. 2 This was the basis of his case. Chief Justice Earl Warren presided over
the case, and on May 17, 1954 decided in Brown s favor. In a brief, unanimous opinion delivered by
Warren, the Court declared that; separate education facilities are inherently unequal 3 and that racial
segregation violates the equal protection clause of the 14th amendment, thus overruling the Plessy
case. Many Americans praised Warren s decision agreeing that in

Comparison Of Cannabis And Religion
Cannabis and religion go together like vegetarians and McDonalds. At least, that s what people used to
think. Not only is weed creeping into everyday society but many religions are beginning to include
this mind altering substance in some of their older traditions. Judaism is one of them. Here are five
things to know about it.
1. CANNABIS AND JUDAISM COMBINING ON ROSH HASHANA
October 2nd marks the beginning of Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish New Year. Like most other holidays,
this one is celebrated with a grand meal. Usually, marijuana is not included on the menu but the times,
they are a changing. Jews are beginning to use the drug to add a new flavor (and of course, feeling) to
their Rosh Hashanah table.

Alone on the Hilltop
In Lame Deers story Alone on the Hilltop he recalls the moment in life when his first hanblechia
occurred at the age of 16. The first scene begins on the hilltop where Lame Deer had been brought by
Chest, the medicine man. Lame Deer has been left all alone on the hilltop for 4 days nights with no
water or food. The only thing that he had with him where his star blanket which his grandmother had
knitted for him, a pipe with kinnickinnick, and gourd which contained forty pieces of his
grandmothers flesh and tiny stones picked up from an ant heap. Lame Deer knew though that after all
of this was over he would no longer be a child, he would be a ... Show more content on

He had also been given his man s name Lame Deer.
Opinion
This in my opinion was a very interesting account of American Indian rituals. Lame Deer did a great
job on comparing and contrasting the white folks way of life with his own. He told us how Indian
children are typically never left alone which gives us a better understanding on why he was so afraid
of being alone on the hilltop. I feel like in this story I really got a better understanding of the Indian
way of life. They seem to be very tight knit group who value tradition above everything. Family seems
to be the most important theme as demonstrated by his grandmothers willingness to cut forty pieces of
her own flesh in order to make the rattle. This whole aspect about them is admirable but at the same
time I feel like they don t really take any actual logic into account. The whole vision determines your
life labor seem really fallible in my opinion. I can t really relate to this story in the sense that I have
never really experienced any of these things as im not a Sioux. I do think though that this story can be
related into our modern world in the sense that many kids are pushed into choosing a life career at a
relatively young age. Lame Deer was only 16 at the time but that is only a mere two years younger
than kids today. To some extent I found admirable that he at such a young age had already known
what his life s calling was. Overall the story

Sigmund Freud, Alfred Adler, C.J. Jung and William James...
Sigmund Freud, Alfred Adler, C.J. Jung and William James were all brilliant and diverse theorists who
made vast contributions to the science of psychological studies. These brilliant minds fueled the
psychological studies of future theorists with their contrasting theoretical approaches and discoveries.
At times, they collaborated to formulate concepts and understandings but separated because of
conceptual disputes. Freud s psychoanalysis theory was at the epicenter of some studies but these men
in their individuality contributed their own theoretical concepts and developed their own schools of
thought from Jung s analytical psychology, Adler s independent school of psychotherapy, James s
theory of emotion and Freud s psychoanalytical ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These include his structural analysis of personality into Id, Ego, and Superego, and his description
between anxiety, and ego defense mechanism (pg 422).
Freud s structure of personality theory divides the mind into three parts, the Id, which centers on
desires, pleasures, primal impulses, or urges. The Ego, which is concerned with the conscious, the
moral, rational, and is self aware. The Super ego, the censor of the Id, which enforces the moral code
of the Ego. He believed the Ego and Super ego are both partly conscious and unconscious. His
structural theory of the Id, Ego and Super ego was detailed in the book, The Ego and the Id when
Freud revised his earlier theory of mental functioning and believes repression is one of many defense
mechanisms and it occurs to reduce anxiety. Freud reasons the conflict between the drive and
superego as the cause of anxiety which is the root cause that inhibits mental functions, such as an
individual s intellect. Identification, rationalization and projection are three other defense mechanisms
people use to protect their mind from anxiety.
Freud s theory of psychosexual development states people seek pleasure from erogenous zones and
everything a person becomes as an adult is determined by their childhood experiences. An individual
develops his or her psychosexual personality based on how he or she handles anti social impulses in

The Effects Of Unauthorized Migration On The United States
Vicious Cycle
Unauthorized migration in the United States has turned into a Vicious Cycle of adverse effects that
sustain a system of underdevelopment, reduced productivity, low wage, and limited rights (Hinojosa,
2015). This is the reality of many migrants that leave their country of origin in search of economic
mobility. The push factors that influence people s decision to migrate are primarily economic and
security. Poverty, lack of employment, opportunities, and economic mobility along with high rates of
violence and crime drive people out of their home countries which tend to be in the Global South and
into the Global North where developed nations like the United States have pull factors that attract the
excessive labor from developing nations. Demand for low skilled labor, higher paying wages, social
and political stability, quality education, and greater wealth are some of the many qualities that make
advanced nations the preferred destination.
The Vicious Cycle begins with the push factors that cause people to migrate out (Hinojosa, 2015).
Lack of opportunities take people across treacherous borders in the hopes of reaching their destination,
a country like the United States in which they find a decent paying job that allows them to sustain
themselves and their loved ones back home (Hinojosa, 2015. The inflow of remittances to a home
country add up to millions and sometimes billions for some countries. The large cash inflow into

Safety In The Bay Area
Avoid trying to tackle difficult uphill or downhill trails until you gain enough experience. Unlike snow
skiing or water sports where a fall usually does not cause injury, falling on a hard trail surface
definitely hurts and will most likely cause moderate to serious abrasions, or worse. Falling is not the
best way to learn! The key to remaining upright is to stay focused and avoid distractions. Trail and
road conditions in the Bay Area can change very rapidly from one curve to the next.
When taking children out, start on relatively flat areas and stay away from the mid day sun. Kids are a
lot less heat tolerant, and you want it to be pleasant for them. Many parks and open spaces in the Bay
Area have lakes with beautiful, flat areas to ride. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is important to set your seat height to allow your legs to fully extend. Your power comes on the
down stroke. If you are peddling with knees bent, you are losing a great deal of power. You should set
your seat height so that at the bottom of the stroke your foot remains flat but your leg is nearly
straight. On a mountain bike, you will sit high in the saddle. It may seem a little odd at first if you are
used to seat placement on road bikes, but you will see the difference it makes in your ability to climb
and control your bike. Ask your local bike shop for fitting advice.
Check tire pressure before each ride. Mountain bike tires should be firm but yield slightly with
moderate finger pressure. Tires that are over inflated will lose traction on slippery surfaces. Tires that
are too soft can pinch the inner tube causing flats. It is recommended to always carry a patch kit, tools
and pump, and a spare tube if you have room. Replace the patch kit cement about once each year even
if not used as it often dries out even when

Victorian Norms In Bram Stoker
Developing the inside versus outside tensions between England and Eastern Europe, Bram Stoker
challenges Victorian social norms. This tension is particularly evident when understanding the spread
of vampirism to be an invasion of England. Although this invasion is fantastical and not realistic, its
targets the legitimate Victorian fear of invasion. As an island nation close to other significant
European powers, England was able to escape many years of land invasions, but always had to remain
wary of the threat of a naval invasion. This fear of invasion is realized when Dracula launches a small
scale invasion of England. He enters by boat and proceeds to terrorize England through its women.
This idea of subliminally addressing the fears and desires of England is effective because Stoker
masks them in fantasy. Furthermore, this is effective because individuals in a culture act out certain
unconscious or repressed needs, or express in an overt and symbolic fashion certain latent motives
which they must give expression to, but cannot face openly (Cawelti, 11). Because this novel is a
fantasy, Stoker is able to challenge the social norms of the period within a popular work. Therefore,
aided by fantasy, Bram Stoker uses the contrast between Eastern and Western cultures to challenge
Victorian ideals and reveal the changing nature of gender roles and sexuality in British society.
The commentary on Victorian ideals stems from the differences between England and Transylvania.
While England was characterized by Protestantism, education, technological innovation, and Victorian
culture, Transylvania was entirely different with a dated technology and a balance between
Catholicism and more superstitious beliefs. These distinctly different cultures initially collide as
Harker travels to visit Count Dracula. As Harker moves further to the East, the mood shifts from
unfamiliarity to more evil and depressive. This is evident as he describes the darkness of his
surroundings as the road was cut through the pine woods that seemed in the darkness to be closing
down us, great masses of greyness produced a peculiarly weird and solemn effect (Stoker, 9). This
unfamiliarity and anxiety in Harker illustrates that he is entirely

Sister Act Analysis
The Sister Act, a musical theatre show, written by Cheri Steinkellner and Bill Steinkellner, was a hit
musical during the late two thousand, making all the way to Broadway. It has its roots in the era of
disco, with all types of different distinctions from modern types of music, and with its plot, it also
delves into the realm of hymns and old gospel music, which all culminates into a musical theatre
extravaganza.
It being a musical, makes it hard to distinguish one genre in particular, but the overlying theme seems
to be based on late 70 s disco (as that is the setting for the musical in the first place). The line up of
instruments were: two keyboardists, a trumpet, a clarinet, a saxophone, a flute, an electric bass, drums,
and a lot of vocalists. All the woodwinds and brass instruments were covered by one guy, and a lot
more additional instrumentation was covered by the keyboardist.
Their instrumentation in the play seemed mediocre initially, but after listening to how they were able
to cooperate with one another, to create harmonies sounding so consonant was incredibly interesting,
especially with vocalists thrown in. The voices mixing with the instruments and vice versa made it
sound almost angelical . The harmonies created were also very southern gospel sounding in certain
points in the musical.
The vocalists varied from scene to scene but in total, there seemed to be about 22 vocalists in all.

Anyone Lived In A Pretty Town Analysis
Cummings casual and vernacular punctuation and repetition in [anyone lived in a pretty town]
narrows the gap between himself and the readers by conveying his message more authentically. He
applied plenty of parentheses into his poem and relies heavily on enjambment while two complete
sentences and seven parentheses appeared. Authors often use parentheses to make comment and
emphasize a point, so in Cummings casual, he adds a large amount of comments to his content. As an
illustration, he writes, anyone lived in a pretty how town / (with up so floating many bells down) , and

most importantly their family from a determined and well organize Army. These men, farmers by

The Advent of Penicillin
The advent of penicillin forever changed the world of medicine at its discovery with its ability to treat
diseases, deadly at the time, that are now considered commonplace and easily treatable. Penicillin was
one of the greatest discoveries of the twentieth century, as antibiotics are one of the most highly
prescribed drugs in the world today. Although its discovery is often described as serendipitous, the
process by which it was cultivated was quite meticulous, and continued attention has been paid to
penicillin s further development. It is because penicillin and its derivatives have played such a vital
role in everyday medicine that it is such an important topic. Penicillin works by virtue of its ... Show

During this time, however, Fleming did meet with Howard Florey, who would later take on a vital role
in the development of penicillin. By the mid 1930s, the advent of sulfa drugs essentially ended all of
Fleming s research on penicillin. However, during this time period, Howard Florey had begun
research on lysozymes, and took special interest in antibiotics in 1938 after reading Fleming s original
paper. Ernst Chain, working in Florey s lab, carried out many of the initial experiments in lab mice, all
highly successful in treating infections of streptococcus bacterium. Human tests soon thereafter, also
proved penicillin to be highly effective, even in cases in which sulfa drugs had failed. However,
production of the drug was still a problem, and trials could not be conducted on a large scale. By this
time it was 1941, and although penicillin s benefits had proven, culture mediums were still only
yielding one part per million penicillin. With Word War II raging, and resources becoming scarce,
Florey negotiated with the Rockefeller Foundation of the United States to move himself and a
colleague to the United States in order for him to continue his research. This project would gain added
momentum when the United States entered the war, with the development of penicillin becoming a
war project. Shortly thereafter, it was determined that Fleming s original

Molecular And Biochemical Genetic Studies On Rice...
Title: Molecular and Biochemical Genetic Studies on Rice Blast Disease.
1 Summary:
Background: Rice (Oryza sativa, L.) is one of the strategic crops in Egypt, and improvement of its
productivity is an essential requirement to ensure food security. Rice blast is one of the most important
diseases of rice causing an average yield loss of 30 50% annually in rice growing areas of the world.
Many resistant rice cultivars are short lived after deployment because of the highly variation in
Magnaporthe oryzae population, due to a high level of genomic instability of the pathogen. So that,
the rice breeders trying to overcome this problem by developing resistant varieties by genetic
approaches to maintain sustainability of rice production.
Proposed Research: The aim of the current study is to study the rice blast mechanisms at molecular,
biochemical and physiological levels in some rice genotypes.
Methodology: (1) Some selected rice genotypes will be evaluated for blast resistance in seedling stage
under greenhouse condition. (2) Identification of rice blast resistance gene(s) in the genotypes. (3)
Determination of the superoxide dismutase (SOD) and polyphenol oxidase (PPO) activities and the
malondialdehyde (MDA) content in leaves of tested genotypes before and after 8 days from
inoculation date with Pyricularia oryzae. (4) Quantitative real time PCR (qRT PCR) analysis will be
carried out to identify the most responsive rice blast resistance gene(s) in the genotypes. (5) For

State Regulation On Uber And Cab Drivers Essay
Introduction
The history of regulation could be traced back to the ancient civilizations such as standardized weights
and measures in ancient Rome, paper currency system in China, and others including Egyptian, Indian
and Greek ( Plagiarism, Wikipedia: The Free Encyclopedia). In the modern society, governments
choose to intervene to correct market failure, to achieve an equitable distribution of income and
wealth and to improve the performance of economy (Geoff, 2006), such as the debate on state
regulation on Uber and cab drivers in WNPR News recently in the United State. In the meanwhile,
one of the key economic questions, what variables contribute the difference in levels of growth of
GDP among countries, has a continuing discussion among economists in their papers. Is there any
casual relationship between regulation and growth of GDP? Hall and Jones (1999) showed in their
papers that the performance of regulation acts a vital role of growth of GDP and found that richer
countries today had better political and economic institutions in the past. Based on previous finding in
this topic, exploring how differently growth of GDP performances with the variability of regulation is
beneficial to find out expected performance of government in regulation in economics in the purpose
of promoting better growth of economic. Thus, this paper will focus on exploring how to evaluate the
effect of government regulation in economic area in terms of Gross Domestic Product growth. The

Not even a year later nearly every right of the Jewish people was eliminated, and hundreds of
thousands of Jewish people were killed or tortured.
Thankfully, the Jewish people and the country of Germany were liberated, and most rights were

was created, including Canada, England, France and others, it was created to make and maintain
human rights throughout the world. Sometimes the only thing that needs fixing is a new government.
But war is not needed to improve and increase human rights in other nations. Even with out war there
are still nations and people without human rights; it just needs to be noticed.
There are many charities to help towards human rights that Canada contributes to greatly. Including

Although it is help for people to live their lives, it does not give them more rights, it is not a solution

Bse Is A Disease Of Sheep
The word BSE is short but it stands for a disease with a long name, bovine spongiform
encephalopathy. Bovine means that the disease affects cows, spongiform refers to the way the brain
from a sick cow looks spongy under a microscope, and encephalopathy indicates that it is a disease of
the brain. BSE is a progressive neurologic disease of cows. Research shows that the first probable
cases of BSE in cows occurred during the 1970 s with two cases of BSE being identified in 1986. BSE
possibly originated as a result of feeding cattle meat and bone meal that contained BSE infected
products from a spontaneously occurring case of BSE or scrapie infected sheep products. Scrapie is a
prion disease of sheep. Similar diseases such as Chronic wasting disease which is in both deer and elk
populations is devastating the hunting and the reproduction of deer. Other similar disease such a the
Creutzfeldt Jakob disease which occurs in the human body system. That is pretty scary for us humans.
We have got to find a way to get this prion settled down and hopefully I can show you the way the
scientist plan to get rid or at least slow it down. There is strong evidence and general agreement that
the outbreak was then amplified and spread throughout the United Kingdom cattle industry by feeding
rendered, prion infected, bovine meat and bone meal to young calves. A lot of people wander what

How Did Elie Wiesel Survive
Q2. I believe that Elie was able to survive the concentration camps for a number of different reasons.
For instance, Elie had a reason to live, which kept him going and wanting to stay alive. In addition, he
was afraid of death, many of the prisoners were so afraid to die that they fought to stay alive until the
very end. Elie was also physically able which had allowed him to pass through the several selections
that they had throughout the book. Elie was not the only one of the Jews who had made it out of the
horrendous death camps that they had been trapped in, others had also escaped with their lives. Many
of the Jews survived based on similar qualities, views, and traits. It was quite astonishing that anyone
was able to survive such gruesome camps. If I were put in their position, I am unable if I would be
able to survive to tell the stories of the concentration camps.
Elie was able to survive the concentration camps for several reasons, I believe a major driving force
being his family. Expanding upon this further, his father had been the main reason for Elie s survival;

God. Faith played a part in the mindset of the Jewish people. Without the perseverance and the will to
survive, they would not have fought nearly as hard as they had. I believe that mindset and
perseverance was the main reason as to why some survived and others did not. Adding to this, if you
did not have the will to live, there would be absolutely no point. If you were not willing to get up and
fight for your life, you were basically dead. Perseverance and mindset were a vital quality to have in

Figurative Language In William Blake s The Tiger
Martin Bennett
Engl. 102

The Tiger, originally called The Tyger, is a lyric poem focusing on the nature of God and his creations.
It was published in 1794 in a collection entitled Songs of Experience (1). Poetry Essay Outline Thesis:
The Tiger is a poem by William Blake that routines a lot of underlying themes, throughout the writing.
He asks a series of serious queries concerning the nature of God, and why he created the tiger. The
theme of the poem is about God as the creator of good and evil that leads the reader to think.
The strongest literary element in William Blake s poem The Tyger, which is figurative language.
Figurative language can be defined as anything said or written that means something beyond the literal
meaning of the words that are used (2). The initial lines of Blake s poem are chock full of intense
figurative language: Tyger! Tyger! burning bright, In the forests of the night, the tiger is not literally
burning, of course, and this metaphor of fire and burning is carried out through the poem and takes on
all sorts of associations, including an association with the infernal. Allusion also plays an important
role in the poem. Stanza two includes an allusion to Icarus, who in classic myth attempts to fly to the
sun ( ...what wings... ). The allusion mixes with the fire imagery, and the idea that the creator forges
the tiger in fire, like a blacksmith. Stanza five contains an allusion to the fall of Satan from heaven

The main cause of the incident was the late transfer of the MIC from the Tank 610 which was use to
produce pesticide to the SEVIN unit when they realized that water had entered the storage tank.
During the time range from 12.15 am to 12.30am on 3rd December 1984, the investigation team had
concluded that there was a transfer of MIC from Tank 610 although the data in the logs had been
falsified. The team got an attempt to remove water from the Tank 610 when they knew that the safety
valves of the system lifted and the pressure in the storage tank was high enough to release the MIC
water mixture compound. The transfer seemed to be impracticable as the remove of the one ton of the
material was not enough to relief the pressure in the tank. The only thing that the workers could do
was to remove the water that found in the tank. Anyway, the transfer of the MIC compound was too
late because the pressure of the Tank 610 was too high to get control. Perhaps, this poor incident
happened due to the technological, organization and human errors. The safety and maintenance
procedures for the manufacturing plants had been ignored for months due to the financial problem
faced by the company. Firstly, the MIC compound stored in the Tank 610 had overloaded. In reality,
the content of MIC in the tank cannot be more than 50%. But for this case, the MIC stored in this tank

How Did Leonardo Da Vinci Done
Art is never finished, only abandoned. This is one of Leonardo da Vinci s famous quotes. I personally
find it appealing and memorizing. This is 100% true as well! Nothing in life is ever truly finished!
Leonardo da Vinci was pure genius, however not just from his quotes. He did much, much, more!
Leonardo da Vinci was born on April 15, 1452. He was born in Vinci Italy. His exact birthplace was in
a farmhouse in the middle of the beautiful hills of Tuscany outside the village of Anchiano in what is
now Italy. Leonardo da Vinci most likely spent most of his time with his uncle, Francesco, instead of
his two unmarried parents. At the age of 15, Leonardo da Vinci became the apprentice of the artist
Andrea del Verrocchio. Andrea del Verrocchio ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He studied the field of civil engineering, and created many amazing inventions. His invention of the
parachute was an international breakthrough! He also invented scissors, which also changed the world,
and is nowadays used in almost every classroom and almost every household. Leonardo da Vinci also
sketched up the first helicopter. He may not have built it, but he did imagaine it, and his sketch helped
modern day scientists and engineers build the helicopter. Not only did Leonardo da Vinci sketch the
helicopter, create the parachute, and invent the scissors, but he also built The Revolving Bridge. The
Revolving Bridge was a portable bridge, used over a variety of bodies of water. It was mostly used by
armies to pass over rivers, streams, and small lakes. Leonardo da Vinci originally designed it for Duke
Sforza.
I think that this field of science is something I would like to study because I enjoy both building and
creating, and I adore art. I definitely think that if I ever become a scientist, this would be the field of
science I would enjoy! I spend most of my time drawing and building, much like Leonardo da Vinci
did. And it just so happens that I ve always had an eye for science, and it seems to be my best subject.
I hope that maybe, just maybe, one day, I will be just as good as artist as Leonardo da Vinci. So as I
conclude my essay, I would like to say just one more genius quote by Leonardo da Vinci

As it can be seen this traditional system shows both the procedures to be profitable for the clinic. But
there were several concerns regarding this procedure as projected by the controller of the clinic, since
the traditional system may not be assigning the common expenses to accurately represent the
underlying use of the common resources used by HD and PD. Therefore there is a need shown by the
controller to explore the activity based costing system to understand the costs netter, which can more
accurately calculate the profitability of the two procedures in order to assist the managers to make
more informed decisions. This has been performed in the following breakdown where the general
overhead category, nursing services and equipment costs have been the focus of the analysis, to obtain
a better understanding of the costs at Western Dialysis Clinic. Phase I General Overhead Category The
initial analysis consists of focusing on the general overhead category. For the nursing and the
equipment costs, the allocation is 85% towards HD and 15% towards PD based on staff s experience
rather than using the traditional RCC method. (For detailed analysis please refer to exhibit 3). In this
phase the General Overhead category is divided into four resource cost pools. The four cost pools

Integration in the EU and Monetary Policy
The creation of the European Union (EU) is a great political and economic feat. For it is the ultimate
sign of cooperation between nations that had been in constant rivalry before. Nevertheless, the ideals
of such a union cannot stand alone without having a strong foundation and continuos rational decision
making by all of the actors involved. If we assume that the European Central Bank s (ECB) principle
role is to guarantee the well being of all EU members, then policy making becomes a very complex

Emily Dickinson was American poet born on December 10 , 1830 in Amherst, Massachusetts. Her

Emily Dickinson s childhood was happy, she had warm relationships with her older brother, Austin

John Crowe Ransom in an essay called Emily Dickinson: A Poet Restored, makes a difference
between Emily Dickinson s daily life as a little home keeping person , who doesn t find her place

She has adopted what William Butler Yeats called the poet s mask: the personality which was

From my point of view Emily Dickinson is a magician of the ordinary because her poetry seems to

The Four Noble Truth Vs. The Eightfold Path
The Four Noble Truths are Buddha s reflections about life and they define what is suffering (dukkha)
and how to overcome suffering. The first noble truth is that no living being can escape suffering
(Eastern Traditions, p.200). This suffering can be emotional or physical. Buddha wants to emphasize
that life does not always meet our expectations and this will lead to suffering. People will still be
suffering even if there is not an external source, like a disease, because they will feel unfulfilled. The
second Noble Truth addresses that suffering comes from a person s desires (Eastern Traditions, p.200).
People may be able to satisfy their desires but this is only temporary solution to suffering. The third
Noble truth is that person can end their suffering if they cease their desires (Eastern Traditions, p.200).
The possibility of liberation can happen if the person extinguishes his or her desires instead of
temporarily satisfying them. The fourth Noble Truth explains that following the Eightfold path is the
way to put an end to suffering (Eastern Traditions, p.200). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Dayton Juvenile Court Case Study
What Is A Bindover Hearing In Dayton Juvenile Court?
It is sad and depressing to hear when teenagers are involved in deplorable behavior and youth crimes
are increasing worldwide. When a juvenile or youth is arrested under crimes such as a theft, murder,
rape, DUI, drug possession, the hearings are conducted in a separate Juvenile Court that may charge
them of serious penalties like fines, house arrest, jail, community service, a criminal record, probation,
psychiatric evaluations, drug testing and treatment or counseling. Since a juvenile crime can have far
reaching effect on his future, the court does not conduct a jury trial but exercises discretionary powers
which most likely lead to some sort of rehabilitation only. To determine such cases, age, mental and
physical maturity, history of criminal record of juvenile at time of crime and damages suffered by the
accused play a very important role. In Dayton, Ohio if a child (below 18 years) has attained an age of
14 years or above at the time of crime, he can be tried in an adult court. All hearings in the beginning

that fought between each other in order to have their land.1 It wasn t until after reconstruction in the
United States, that the white Americans started having ordeals with the Native Americans. The main
tribes involved in the conflict starting around 1850 were the Lakota people and the Sioux. The
relationship between them can only be remembered for broken treaties and wars. It is true that these
tribes had only mind there own business for many ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It was then that in 1854, that the Senate made amendments to the Treaty of Laramie of 1851, that
allowed the United States to build forts in the Territories among the Oregon Trail.1 The Indians would
agree to sign it2 but the outcome would only be incompatibility. At around 1864, an Indian tribe
known as the Sioux would attack these forts and start a two year war with the United States.3 After the
battle, in 1866, the council initiated Fort Laramie of 1868 that made peace with the Sioux and
respected their land.4 From the first article of this treaty, the tribes would agree to abstain in future
from all hostilities whatever against each other. 5 The treaty would also make the Native Americans
from the Sioux to recompense for any wrongs committed against citizens of the United States.6 The
most important article was to respect and acknowledge each other s territories. 7 In this case, they
were to give the land of west Missouri and the Black Hills.8 If the Native Americans were to make
any violations upon this Treaty, then the United States government would have to retain their promise
to respect territories that belonged to the Indians. The Treaty of Laramie would be broken in 1874
when gold would soon be discovered by miners in the Black Hills. Unfortunately, the United States
had to fight for it.9 However, in

John Donne s Poetry
John Donne is in fact a pioneer in the poetic wit of love; he has paved the way for many metaphysical
poets after him. His style of writing, although immediately recognizable, formed to the events
unfolding around him. His work covers his early years of sensuality, where he produced explicit
sexual poetry, along with his later years of religious study, where he wrote explicit religious poetry, a
lot of which are hard to tell apart. Because none of Donne s poetry was published while he was living,
it is difficult for us to date it accurately, but we can assume that he wrote his more sensual poetry
before he went to work with the church. He changed the way most poets of the 16th and 17th centuries
wrote and had a large impact on the poets to follow after ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In A Valediction: Forbidding Mourning,
Donne compares two lovers to the points on a compass. This is surprising because Donne was not
using the conventional Petrarchan conceit to make comparisons like his colleagues. A metaphysical
conceit requires a more introspective way of reasoning to understand the speaker s emotions. Many
were shocked over how Donne transformed the conceit, failing then to see that his use of the
metaphysical conceit offered new insight into his poems and lyrics.
Another way Donne differs from his fellow Renaissance poets is with the use of a present listener.
Donne writes directly to whom the poem was written for, while the other poets of his day; mostly
write their poems without directing it towards a specific listener. His poems have very few large
descriptive passages like the one s used in the works of Edmund Spenser. Donne s poetry also doesn t
have the smooth, poetic flow that the other Renaissance poets had. Donne has done away with the
poetic flow and instead opted to use a speaking voice, whose syntax can easily show the intensity of

Criteria-Based Regulation Summary
Journal Four The next article focused on a criteria based reminder to help decrease the duration of
catheterization and increase proper catheter care, causing a decrease in CAUTIs (Chen et al., 2013).
The criteria based reminder was used to remind the nurse to check if the catheter could be removed
and also reminds them the catheter needed to be properly cleaned. The research method was a
randomized control trial (Chen et al., 2013). The sample of this study was from two respiratory ICUs
in a medical center in Taiwan. The study involved 231 patients who had catheters inserted in the ICUs
and 130 patients who had catheters inserted on other units (Chen et al., 2013). Data was collected by
having urine specimens taken from urinary catheter patients on the unit, they then tested for urinary
tract infections (Chen et al., 2013). Two groups of catheter patients were tested, one with the criteria
based reminder implemented and one without (Chen et al., 2013). The study showed that the criteria
based reminder group had a 21.8% incidence of UTIs, and the group without the reminder had a
32.8% incidence of UTIs (Chen et al., 2013). The study also showed the reminder method dropped

catheter interventions in hospitals by reminding health care workers about them daily. Journal three
and journal five both focus on the use of certain interventions to decrease rates of UTIs in catheterized
patients (Fakih et al., 2012; Saint et al., 2013). Articles three and five evaluate if certain interventions

Act 4 Scene 1 in Much Ado About Nothing by William Shakespeare
The play is a comedy, which centres on two couples and their love affairs, although there are other
subplots, which involve disguise and trickery. The scene itself focuses on the wedding of Claudio and
Hero during which Claudio strongly rejects Hero. It is a dramatic scene where the tension of the
audience is most raised during the play. This is due to the characters theatrical behavior and language.
It also opens new doors for other relationships to evolve such as Beatrice and Benedick, who
overcome their hatred for each other and fall in love. In some ways this scene has its advantages and
disadvantages. If this scene had not happened ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Leonato s excuse for being too busy to listen because of the wedding is known as dramatic irony
because something this important should make Leonato listen. Because of Leonato not wanting to
listen to Dogberry, the audience are given the expectation that the wedding may not be a perfect affair.
The part of the scene where Hero is rejected is very powerful. In many productions of this play the
character of Claudio is made violent, this also happens in the production by Kenneth Brag , which we
studied. Such ways as pushing Hero and shouting at her with abusive language of that time make
Claudio s behavior vicious and shocking. Claudio rejects Hero in a very dreadful approach using
various techniques of behaviour and body language. His behavior is strong and alarming, he shuffles
her on her arms, almost shaking her and pushes her onto the ground in a disgusted manner. As well as
his shocking behavior, Claudio also uses abusive language to bring out his feelings. Such examples of
language that he uses are a rotten orange , that she is a bad thing, that she looks virtuous on the
outside, but not on the inside. Another example of language that he uses is approved wanton , in those
days known as a proven whore that she is not worth a lot, in fact very little. Throughout Claudio s
behaviour he uses the

Systems Theory And System Theory
Systems theory sees the system as a set of related components that work together in a particular
environment to perform specific functions that are required of them to achieve the system s objective
(Walker, 2012). Most people are part of a variety of systems and subsystems. For example, a family is
seen as a system in itself but each member of the family may have different subsystems, such as their
peers, education, job, recreational activities, etc. and all of these subsystems play a role in the
functioning of the system being examined. Applied theorists of systems theory see the system as goal
seeking and when they discuss a problem within the system, it doesn t necessarily mean that
something is wrong but rather that the situation needs to be better understood and a solution to be
found and implemented for the system to continue operating smoothly (2012).
The social worker has decided to utilize systems theory approach when working with the Brown
family. The social worker finds it extremely important to look at this family as a system of individual
working together and believes that the family as a whole cannot be completely understood without
looking at how the individuals work together and getting a grasp on their dynamic. Each member of
the family has designated roles and are expected to respond to each other in certain ways. The changes
in these roles may cause dysfunction in the family system. In order to determine the roles played by
different individuals in the

  • 2. ISLAM REL1006S: COURSE ESSAY Discuss how Islam is a quest to be faithful to the transcendent, both directly and through social engagement Islam is a religion based on the belief in one God, His messenger and the four other pillars. These five pillars are central to Muslims, followers of Islam and mould their beings and are part of their everyday lives. This essay will look at the abovementioned pillars, what they are and how they form part of the quest to be faithful to the transcendent. Mention will also be made to how Islam plays out in everyday life, thus how this quest is and can be done both directly and through social engagement. Firstly, we need to establish who or what the Transcendent is. I would like to describe the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This again, makes reference to the remembrance of those who are not as fortunate, specifically, fellow Muslim brothers and sisters and the importance of togetherness in order to once again, please Allah, following in the Prophet s footsteps. The fifth and last pillar of Islam is the Hajj. The Hajj refers to the holy pilgrimage to Makkah, acts done at and around the Ka bah, the house of God and also other precise and detailed series of rituals as prescribed. The gathering of all pilgrims on the plains of Arafat, men dressed in nothing but two cloths and women in plain white thobes (form of Islamic dress), is the highlight and most important part of the journey for pilgrims. Here one s previous sins are forgiven and lots and lots of supplication are made to God (Online Source Al Islam.org). The white attire that is prescribed is so that no one Muslim can be socially distinguished from the other. This is the one place where everyone is equal and no judgement can be made. The five pillars that are central to Islam make it evident that through these various ways, Muslims are governing their lives correctly, according to Allah, following the way of His messenger and as a result, brought closer to Him on a spiritual level. Allah is never objectified and one cannot then be physically closer to Him. There are also other acts of worship that can be done in order to become closer to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Social Scientist Phrase, Presentation Of Self, And Self In this modern day world people may continuously confuse similarly used words, and often think they mean the same thing. However, in reality they don t. Nonetheless, the main focus words are identity, and self. Identity to me is similar to social scientist phrase presentation of self , and what that means is how a person wants to present themselves to others. Similar to actors, and singers that are constructively criticized by their image, so they can better it to wow their fans. In contrast to self which is being true to who you are. As seen in When the Emperor was Divine the family struggle with knowing their self, and identity. The family begins as middle upper class materialistic people in California that are nameless with a sense of family unity, and self worth. Eventually transforming to isolated, exhausted, loss souls having to wear ID numbers on their collar (p. 24). Starting off with the father which is a very symbolic character since he is only spoken about in memories, and letters. Even so far away his family describes him as loving, caring, and warm hearted. The children would say Our father, the father we remembered, and had dreamed of, almost nightly, all through the years of the war, was handsome and strong. He moved quickly, surely, with his head held high in the air. He liked to draw for us. He liked to sing for us. He liked to laugh (p. 132). The Importance Of Leadership In Athletic Training The research article uses a two phase, exploratory, non experimental research study to examine the leadership competencies that are important for athletic training practice and education. The study consists of a hundred and sixty one certified athletic trainers surveyed on the importance of leadership competencies. The study found that no matter the setting there is evidence that leadership competence is an important aspect to athletic training. According to Kutz, leadership is the ability to ethically influence others toward accomplishing a goal or objective (2010). • 5. Choosing Favorite Beatles Songs Choosing favorite Beatles songs is a bit like choosing a favorite child, it s damn near. They put out four psychedelic albums (if you count Yellow Submarine, which I m not), and three post psychedelic albums. In the 8 years they recorded, they released 12 studio albums, not counting the US releases as many of those were compilation records. To be honest, I was never a huge fan of the mop tops era Beatles and songs like I Want to Hold Your Hand and She Loves You. However, I did include a few from that time period. I would love to hear your top 10 to see if we match up at all. Number Ten: All You Need Is Love. Written after only two weeks after the release of Sgt. Pepper, All You Need Is Love was specifically written for the first satellite hookup between 25 countries called Our World. The song boasted an optimistic vibe during the summer of love in 1967. The song featured many prominent artists singing on the chorus. Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, Marianne Faithful, and Eric Clapton were just a few of the talents who appeared on the recording. The track also included many guest musicians playing everything from violin to trumpet. The Beatles themselves played unconventional instruments: Lennon on harpsichord, McCartney on double bass and Harrison on violin. The track was made available on Magical Mystery Tour and Yellow Submarine. Number Nine: In My Life. • 6. The Importance of Brown V. The Board of Education Essay The Importance of Brown V. The Board of Education To understand the importance of Brown V. The Board of Education of Topeka, one must take into account the gravity of the prevailing law and attitude that existed in 1954. In 1896, the Supreme Court established the separate but equal doctrine in the case of Plessy V. Ferguson. Essentially the court was saying that blacks should be treated equally but due to an obvious difference, race, blacks could be treated equally but separate. Justice Henry Brown wrote in his majority opinion; The object of the Fourteenth Amendment was undoubtedly to enforce the absolute equality of the two races before the law, but in the nature of things it could ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In fact a series of cases from Kansas, South Carolina, Virginia and Delaware all found their way to the Supreme Court. But a distinguished attorney with the NAACP named Thurgood Marshall brought Linda Browns case to prominence. By this time, Thurgood Marshall was an experienced Supreme Court advocate. He had already challenged all white primary elections in Smith V. Allwright, and restrictive covenants in Shelley V. Kraemer. His style was straightforward and plainspoken. He held no punches and got to his point without a lot of dramatics. When asked for a definition of the word equal by Justice Felix Frankfurter, Marshall replied, Equal means getting the same thing, at the same time, and in the same place. 2 This was the basis of his case. Chief Justice Earl Warren presided over the case, and on May 17, 1954 decided in Brown s favor. In a brief, unanimous opinion delivered by Warren, the Court declared that; separate education facilities are inherently unequal 3 and that racial segregation violates the equal protection clause of the 14th amendment, thus overruling the Plessy case. Many Americans praised Warren s decision agreeing that in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Lit review Essay Manuel Rodriguez Professor Dr.Selitto Enc 1101 W50 2/18/2014 Alone on the Hilltop In Lame Deers story Alone on the Hilltop he recalls the moment in life when his first hanblechia occurred at the age of 16. The first scene begins on the hilltop where Lame Deer had been brought by Chest, the medicine man. Lame Deer has been left all alone on the hilltop for 4 days nights with no water or food. The only thing that he had with him where his star blanket which his grandmother had knitted for him, a pipe with kinnickinnick, and gourd which contained forty pieces of his grandmothers flesh and tiny stones picked up from an ant heap. Opinion This in my opinion was a very interesting account of American Indian rituals. Lame Deer did a great job on comparing and contrasting the white folks way of life with his own. He told us how Indian children are typically never left alone which gives us a better understanding on why he was so afraid of being alone on the hilltop. I feel like in this story I really got a better understanding of the Indian way of life. They seem to be very tight knit group who value tradition above everything. Family seems to be the most important theme as demonstrated by his grandmothers willingness to cut forty pieces of her own flesh in order to make the rattle. This whole aspect about them is admirable but at the same time I feel like they don t really take any actual logic into account. The whole vision determines your life labor seem really fallible in my opinion. I can t really relate to this story in the sense that I have never really experienced any of these things as im not a Sioux. I do think though that this story can be related into our modern world in the sense that many kids are pushed into choosing a life career at a relatively young age. Lame Deer was only 16 at the time but that is only a mere two years younger than kids today. To some extent I found admirable that he at such a young age had already known what his life s calling was. Overall the story ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. Sigmund Freud, Alfred Adler, C.J. Jung and William James... Sigmund Freud, Alfred Adler, C.J. Jung and William James were all brilliant and diverse theorists who made vast contributions to the science of psychological studies. These brilliant minds fueled the psychological studies of future theorists with their contrasting theoretical approaches and discoveries. At times, they collaborated to formulate concepts and understandings but separated because of conceptual disputes. Freud s psychoanalysis theory was at the epicenter of some studies but these men in their individuality contributed their own theoretical concepts and developed their own schools of thought from Jung s analytical psychology, Adler s independent school of psychotherapy, James s theory of emotion and Freud s psychoanalytical ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... These include his structural analysis of personality into Id, Ego, and Superego, and his description between anxiety, and ego defense mechanism (pg 422). Freud s structure of personality theory divides the mind into three parts, the Id, which centers on desires, pleasures, primal impulses, or urges. The Ego, which is concerned with the conscious, the moral, rational, and is self aware. The Super ego, the censor of the Id, which enforces the moral code of the Ego. He believed the Ego and Super ego are both partly conscious and unconscious. His structural theory of the Id, Ego and Super ego was detailed in the book, The Ego and the Id when Freud revised his earlier theory of mental functioning and believes repression is one of many defense mechanisms and it occurs to reduce anxiety. Freud reasons the conflict between the drive and superego as the cause of anxiety which is the root cause that inhibits mental functions, such as an individual s intellect. Identification, rationalization and projection are three other defense mechanisms people use to protect their mind from anxiety. • 10. The Effects Of Unauthorized Migration On The United States Vicious Cycle Unauthorized migration in the United States has turned into a Vicious Cycle of adverse effects that sustain a system of underdevelopment, reduced productivity, low wage, and limited rights (Hinojosa, 2015). This is the reality of many migrants that leave their country of origin in search of economic mobility. The push factors that influence people s decision to migrate are primarily economic and security. Poverty, lack of employment, opportunities, and economic mobility along with high rates of violence and crime drive people out of their home countries which tend to be in the Global South and into the Global North where developed nations like the United States have pull factors that attract the excessive labor from developing nations. Demand for low skilled labor, higher paying wages, social and political stability, quality education, and greater wealth are some of the many qualities that make advanced nations the preferred destination. The Vicious Cycle begins with the push factors that cause people to migrate out (Hinojosa, 2015). Lack of opportunities take people across treacherous borders in the hopes of reaching their destination, a country like the United States in which they find a decent paying job that allows them to sustain themselves and their loved ones back home (Hinojosa, 2015. Unlike snow skiing or water sports where a fall usually does not cause injury, falling on a hard trail surface definitely hurts and will most likely cause moderate to serious abrasions, or worse. Falling is not the best way to learn! The key to remaining upright is to stay focused and avoid distractions. Trail and road conditions in the Bay Area can change very rapidly from one curve to the next. When taking children out, start on relatively flat areas and stay away from the mid day sun. Kids are a lot less heat tolerant, and you want it to be pleasant for them. Many parks and open spaces in the Bay Area have lakes with beautiful, flat areas to ride. ... • 12. Victorian Norms In Bram Stoker Developing the inside versus outside tensions between England and Eastern Europe, Bram Stoker challenges Victorian social norms. This tension is particularly evident when understanding the spread of vampirism to be an invasion of England. Although this invasion is fantastical and not realistic, its targets the legitimate Victorian fear of invasion. As an island nation close to other significant European powers, England was able to escape many years of land invasions, but always had to remain wary of the threat of a naval invasion. This fear of invasion is realized when Dracula launches a small scale invasion of England. He enters by boat and proceeds to terrorize England through its women. This idea of subliminally addressing the fears and desires of England is effective because Stoker masks them in fantasy. Furthermore, this is effective because individuals in a culture act out certain unconscious or repressed needs, or express in an overt and symbolic fashion certain latent motives which they must give expression to, but cannot face openly (Cawelti, 11). Because this novel is a fantasy, Stoker is able to challenge the social norms of the period within a popular work. Therefore, aided by fantasy, Bram Stoker uses the contrast between Eastern and Western cultures to challenge Victorian ideals and reveal the changing nature of gender roles and sexuality in British society. The commentary on Victorian ideals stems from the differences between England and Transylvania. While England was characterized by Protestantism, education, technological innovation, and Victorian culture, Transylvania was entirely different with a dated technology and a balance between Catholicism and more superstitious beliefs. These distinctly different cultures initially collide as Harker travels to visit Count Dracula. As Harker moves further to the East, the mood shifts from unfamiliarity to more evil and depressive. This is evident as he describes the darkness of his surroundings as the road was cut through the pine woods that seemed in the darkness to be closing down us, great masses of greyness produced a peculiarly weird and solemn effect (Stoker, 9). This unfamiliarity and anxiety in Harker illustrates that he is entirely ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 16. Sister Act Analysis The Sister Act, a musical theatre show, written by Cheri Steinkellner and Bill Steinkellner, was a hit musical during the late two thousand, making all the way to Broadway. It has its roots in the era of disco, with all types of different distinctions from modern types of music, and with its plot, it also delves into the realm of hymns and old gospel music, which all culminates into a musical theatre extravaganza. It being a musical, makes it hard to distinguish one genre in particular, but the overlying theme seems to be based on late 70 s disco (as that is the setting for the musical in the first place). The line up of instruments were: two keyboardists, a trumpet, a clarinet, a saxophone, a flute, an electric bass, drums, and a lot of vocalists. All the woodwinds and brass instruments were covered by one guy, and a lot more additional instrumentation was covered by the keyboardist. Their instrumentation in the play seemed mediocre initially, but after listening to how they were able to cooperate with one another, to create harmonies sounding so consonant was incredibly interesting, especially with vocalists thrown in. The voices mixing with the instruments and vice versa made it sound almost angelical . The harmonies created were also very southern gospel sounding in certain points in the musical. The vocalists varied from scene to scene but in total, there seemed to be about 22 vocalists in all. Seeing the choir being fairly massive, in relation to the size ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Although less than 20 men had arms they valiantly defended their house, their land, and most importantly their family from a determined and well organize Army. These men, farmers by trade, equipped with simple Kalashnikov rifles defended their homes and lives for hours and didn t allow for their bloodthirsty enemies to advance even one step towards their precious brothers, sisters, mothers, and fathers. We finally made it to our cousins after what seemed like a never ending trip although we only traveled ten miles. Our cousin s village would be our home for now, it was better than being dead but we would soon learn that death could be easier to obtain than picking an apple from a tree. The days slowly passed and every night we would hear the roar of gun fire. My mother would rock me to bed to the sound of those shots and the explosions in the distance. The war raged on and people in the cities were in need of food. At the time we had plenty of food so my father Gani and his nephew Besnik decided they would enter the city to sell some crops. Gani and Besnik loaded their small car with apples, plums, berries, some flour, and corn. They set off for Mitrovica and planned to take the backroads all the way there. Their plans were soon useless as they were required to get off of the backroads. Gani and Besnik drove onto the main road that leads to Mitorvica and travelled on that road for a little over a mile. The Advent of Penicillin Essay The Advent of Penicillin The advent of penicillin forever changed the world of medicine at its discovery with its ability to treat diseases, deadly at the time, that are now considered commonplace and easily treatable. Penicillin was one of the greatest discoveries of the twentieth century, as antibiotics are one of the most highly prescribed drugs in the world today. Although its discovery is often described as serendipitous, the process by which it was cultivated was quite meticulous, and continued attention has been paid to penicillin s further development. It is because penicillin and its derivatives have played such a vital role in everyday medicine that it is such an important topic. Penicillin works by virtue of its ... By the mid 1930s, the advent of sulfa drugs essentially ended all of Fleming s research on penicillin. However, during this time period, Howard Florey had begun research on lysozymes, and took special interest in antibiotics in 1938 after reading Fleming s original paper. Ernst Chain, working in Florey s lab, carried out many of the initial experiments in lab mice, all highly successful in treating infections of streptococcus bacterium. Human tests soon thereafter, also proved penicillin to be highly effective, even in cases in which sulfa drugs had failed. However, production of the drug was still a problem, and trials could not be conducted on a large scale. By this time it was 1941, and although penicillin s benefits had proven, culture mediums were still only yielding one part per million penicillin. With Word War II raging, and resources becoming scarce, Florey negotiated with the Rockefeller Foundation of the United States to move himself and a colleague to the United States in order for him to continue his research. This project would gain added momentum when the United States entered the war, with the development of penicillin becoming a war project. Title: Molecular and Biochemical Genetic Studies on Rice Blast Disease. 1 Summary: Background: Rice (Oryza sativa, L.) is one of the strategic crops in Egypt, and improvement of its productivity is an essential requirement to ensure food security. Rice blast is one of the most important diseases of rice causing an average yield loss of 30 50% annually in rice growing areas of the world. Many resistant rice cultivars are short lived after deployment because of the highly variation in Magnaporthe oryzae population, due to a high level of genomic instability of the pathogen. So that, the rice breeders trying to overcome this problem by developing resistant varieties by genetic approaches to maintain sustainability of rice production. Proposed Research: The aim of the current study is to study the rice blast mechanisms at molecular, biochemical and physiological levels in some rice genotypes. Methodology: (1) Some selected rice genotypes will be evaluated for blast resistance in seedling stage under greenhouse condition. (2) Identification of rice blast resistance gene(s) in the genotypes. (3) Determination of the superoxide dismutase (SOD) and polyphenol oxidase (PPO) activities and the malondialdehyde (MDA) content in leaves of tested genotypes before and after 8 days from inoculation date with Pyricularia oryzae. State Regulation On Uber And Cab Drivers Essay Introduction The history of regulation could be traced back to the ancient civilizations such as standardized weights and measures in ancient Rome, paper currency system in China, and others including Egyptian, Indian and Greek ( Plagiarism, Wikipedia: The Free Encyclopedia). In the modern society, governments choose to intervene to correct market failure, to achieve an equitable distribution of income and wealth and to improve the performance of economy (Geoff, 2006), such as the debate on state regulation on Uber and cab drivers in WNPR News recently in the United State. In the meanwhile, one of the key economic questions, what variables contribute the difference in levels of growth of GDP among countries, has a continuing discussion among economists in their papers. Is there any casual relationship between regulation and growth of GDP? Hall and Jones (1999) showed in their papers that the performance of regulation acts a vital role of growth of GDP and found that richer countries today had better political and economic institutions in the past. Based on previous finding in this topic, exploring how differently growth of GDP performances with the variability of regulation is beneficial to find out expected performance of government in regulation in economics in the purpose of promoting better growth of economic. Thus, this paper will focus on exploring how to evaluate the effect of government regulation in economic area in terms of Gross Domestic Product growth. The ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 39. Dayton Juvenile Court Case Study What Is A Bindover Hearing In Dayton Juvenile Court? It is sad and depressing to hear when teenagers are involved in deplorable behavior and youth crimes are increasing worldwide. When a juvenile or youth is arrested under crimes such as a theft, murder, rape, DUI, drug possession, the hearings are conducted in a separate Juvenile Court that may charge them of serious penalties like fines, house arrest, jail, community service, a criminal record, probation, psychiatric evaluations, drug testing and treatment or counseling. Since a juvenile crime can have far reaching effect on his future, the court does not conduct a jury trial but exercises discretionary powers which most likely lead to some sort of rehabilitation only. To determine such cases, age, mental and physical maturity, history of criminal record of juvenile at time of crime and damages suffered by the accused play a very important role. • 43. John Donne s Poetry John Donne is in fact a pioneer in the poetic wit of love; he has paved the way for many metaphysical poets after him. His style of writing, although immediately recognizable, formed to the events unfolding around him. His work covers his early years of sensuality, where he produced explicit sexual poetry, along with his later years of religious study, where he wrote explicit religious poetry, a lot of which are hard to tell apart. Because none of Donne s poetry was published while he was living, it is difficult for us to date it accurately, but we can assume that he wrote his more sensual poetry before he went to work with the church. In A Valediction: Forbidding Mourning, Donne compares two lovers to the points on a compass. This is surprising because Donne was not using the conventional Petrarchan conceit to make comparisons like his colleagues. A metaphysical conceit requires a more introspective way of reasoning to understand the speaker s emotions. Many were shocked over how Donne transformed the conceit, failing then to see that his use of the metaphysical conceit offered new insight into his poems and lyrics. Another way Donne differs from his fellow Renaissance poets is with the use of a present listener. Donne writes directly to whom the poem was written for, while the other poets of his day; mostly write their poems without directing it towards a specific listener. His poems have very few large descriptive passages like the one s used in the works of Edmund Spenser. Donne s poetry also doesn t have the smooth, poetic flow that the other Renaissance poets had. Donne has done away with the poetic flow and instead opted to use a speaking voice, whose syntax can easily show the intensity of Donne s ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 49. Systems Theory And System Theory Systems theory sees the system as a set of related components that work together in a particular environment to perform specific functions that are required of them to achieve the system s objective (Walker, 2012). Most people are part of a variety of systems and subsystems. For example, a family is seen as a system in itself but each member of the family may have different subsystems, such as their peers, education, job, recreational activities, etc. and all of these subsystems play a role in the functioning of the system being examined. Applied theorists of systems theory see the system as goal seeking and when they discuss a problem within the system, it doesn t necessarily mean that something is wrong but rather that the situation needs to be better understood and a solution to be found and implemented for the system to continue operating smoothly (2012). The social worker has decided to utilize systems theory approach when working with the Brown family. The social worker finds it extremely important to look at this family as a system of individual working together and believes that the family as a whole cannot be completely understood without looking at how the individuals work together and getting a grasp on their dynamic. Each member of the family has designated roles and are expected to respond to each other in certain ways. The changes in these roles may cause dysfunction in the family system.
