Fluoride And Sugar Causes Tooth
Maintaining a healthy smile means proper brushing, flossing, and using fluoride. Fluoride is a natural
mineral that helps to strengthen enamel, reducing the amount of bacteria that attack your teeth and
preventing cavities. Bridgeview Dental Group, located in Kodiak, specializes in family dental care,
including teeth whitening, root canals, and tooth implants. They ve highlighted a few of the myths that
surround fluoride use, debunking them to reveal the truth.
Sugar Causes Tooth Decay: While this myth is partially true, as sugar is a vehicle for bacteria, the
main cause of cavities is because the enamel breaks down and doesn t defend the tooth against germs.
Fluoride promotes stronger enamel, which protects the teeth from those oncoming

Traveling The World, By Mary Anne Radmacher
Artist and author Mary Anne Radmacher once said I am not the same having seen the moon shine on
the other side of the world. This quote expresses how seeing the world affects you. Two years ago I
traveled to Europe with my school and that experience has dramatically changed my perspective on
life.
Traveling the world made me realize how lucky I am to live in the United States. I have read books
that detail the struggles of Holocaust victims. I have even visited a Holocaust museum in Washington,
DC but nothing can compare to the sadness I felt when I entered the wrought iron gate of the Dachau
concentration camp. This camp is located in Dachau, Germany and served as a prison for Jewish
people and prisoners of war during World War II. This

Climate Change Reflection
After watching the move How To Let Go and Love All The Things Climate Can t Change, my
perception of our world completely changed. With the overwhelming facts to the heartfelt stories Josh
Fox exposes viewers to the damage that is yet to come. This movie was so effective as opposed to
other climate documentaries because Fox explains the human aspects of climate change. Traveling to
twelve countries on six continents he explains how ocean warming, sea level rise, and air quality are
already negatively affecting people in their everyday lives. People don t connect with facts, people
connect with people. This is something I am realizing is critical in getting others on board with
sustainability initiatives and to re think the role we play as consumers. After graduating I want to work
as a sustainability director for a large company. At the start of my sustainability journey I am
discovering that the most essential part of a sustainability director s job is to be personable. People
will be more likely to implement change when they realize how it benefits or affects them and their
organization. Without effective communication, projects will never be funded, ideas will not be
considered, and it is less likely that your impact will be as substantial as it could. As a sustainability
advocate, it will be my job to promote and implement initiatives that will help us now, but also
generations to come will feel those effects. Josh Fox shows it is the grassroot groups and people
stepping up to protect our planet because they know it is necessary. I have developed the mindset, if
not me than who? Out of all ten of the things that climate can t change, I believe that the most
important one is resilience. As sustainability professionals, it is a fact of life that you will be told no.
But the key is moving on from that. You can not get yourself worked up just because things didn t play
out how we want. We can also not let getting told no beat us down, not everyone understands or wants
to understand the environmental catastrophes that are upon us. With this in mind, we should use
getting told no to drive us forward and work even harder on the next project we have. Resilience stood
out to me in the movie when the Samoa tribe

Film Analysis Of The Breakfast Club
Joohyun Cho Introduction to Psychology Film Analysis of The Breakfast Club Introduction The film
The Breakfast Club was directed and written by John Hughes and was released in the year 1985
(IMDB, 2016). The film s running time is 95 minutes and can be categorized under the genre of
comedy and drama. It follows five teenagers, who all vary in personality and stereotype, get stuck in
detention on a Saturday morning. They are all different types of people in nature but when stripped
down and seen through without a stereotypical lens, they all have something to share and have
something in common amongst themselves despite being so different from each other. In the movie,
they are stereotyped as, a basket case, a brain, an athlete, a princess, and a criminal (IMDB, 2016).
The setting takes place in a library and whilst they are in detention, they go through varying phases.
They start off with solitude, then proceed to share a few words, and later into the film they start to
disclose information about themselves that normally would be very difficult to disclose. While they
are in the library they start off as complete strangers and barely talk to each other. As the movie
progresses, they start doing a lot of things that a normal group of friends would do such as dancing,
playing music, sneaking out together, and even smoking a joint together. The main issue that the
movie raises is the idea that being subjected to peer pressure and malicious parenting

Megacities Research Paper
Megacities are populated with Millions of residents; these overcrowded cities cause issues with
inadequate water supply, in many cities. Shanghai, China and Karachi, Pakistan experience scarce
water supply daily; some residents go days or weeks without water because of shortages,
contamination, and high prices. Around 300 million people are suffering from water shortages (Tao,
Tao, and Kunlun Xin). Deaths have arisen due to water contamination, killing thousands of people
yearly. Karachi water is being stolen and sold on a daily basis; making low income families pay
extremely high prices to get the essential water they need. Shanghai and Karachi demonstrate the poor

What Makes A Wearable Health Technology Product That Our...
Being part of the extremely competitive and constantly evolving textiles, apparel luxury goods
industry requires us to constantly strive to be innovative. We must frequently analyze the market, its
trends, and all relevant information that can inform us of opportunities and threats that apply to our
industry (Textiles, Apparel Luxury Goods). This is especially important for us now as we have lost the
trust of many of our customers and our financial health is currently ranked as negative by several
reviewers such as the S P Capital IQ Quantitative Stock Report. Lululemon s previous leaders decision
to compromise quality and the numerous public disagreements surrounding how the company should
be run have led to confusion among our stakeholders and consumers. Recent management changes
have caused a further loss of trust amongst our customers. It is imperative that we better our financial
health and improve our customers perception of our company within the next year. To help achieve
both these objectives, our next big move should be to introduce a wearable health technology product
that our consumers can use to monitor their health and track improvements in their fitness. Two
factors are central to this proposal: (1) we understand that the climate of our market and industry is
extremely competitive and it is vitally important for us to stand out by introducing an innovative and
highly desirable product and (2) there currently is a significant trend surrounding the use

Migraines Essay
Migraine headaches are the result of a disturbance in the neurochemistry of the central nervous
system. They are relatively common, affecting three times as many women as men. Migraine sufferers
typically report a definite pattern to their headaches, and they can report what stimuli bring them on.
Most migraine sufferers experience their first attack before the age of 20. There is no single cause of
migraines, but the tendency to get migraines does tend to run in families. When a migraine occurs, it
means that something has altered several of the neurotransmitter sensitive receptors located on the
outside surface of the nerve cells (neurons) so that the nervous system is no longer able to constantly

Scientists suspect that a caffeine withdrawal could be the possible cause of common migraines. Why?
Well, caffeine is a powerful psychoactive drug that is addictive. Caffeine withdrawals produce all the
same symptoms as migraine. Chronic caffeine use causes a number of changes to the central nervous
system. Caffeine use increases the number of some types of serotonin receptors and some types of
adenosine receptors as well.
Adenosine is another neurotransmitter; adenosine strongly inhibits serotonin release. Chronic caffeine
use increases the number of adenosine receptors.(The body is trying to compensate for the constant
presence of caffeine, which occupies and blockades adenosine receptors and thus interferes with
adenosine reception.) When caffeine is withdrawn, however, the chronic caffeine user is left with too
many adenosine receptors. Having too many adenosine receptors is equivalent to having too much
adenosine. As a result, serotonin release is inhibited and this leads to migraine symptoms.
As you know there are many drugs used against migraine. Many of these drugs contain caffeine, for
good reason: caffeine relieves migraine by reversing caffeine withdrawal. Migraine drugs that contain
caffeine include Fiorinal (40mg caffeine), Fioricet (40mg caffeine), Excedrin (65mg caffeine), Anacin
(32mg caffeine), Cafergot, Norgesic Forte (60mg caffeine), and others.

Literary Analysis Of Shrek 2
Nowadays, when we hear Shrek we think of him as an icon of the internet. In a world where
appearances seem to be societies focus, Shrek 2 reminds us that looks are fleeting, but what is on the
inside is what is important. Shrek 2 is a movie written in 2014 that follows the main character, Shrek
an ogre, on his journey in the kingdom, Far Far Away as he tries to acquire the approval of his wife s,
Fiona also an ogre, parents which are the human king and queen of Far Far Away. Overwhelming, the
movie is able to depict a fantastic children s romantic fairytale by teaching a life lesson in the use a
medieval style with numerous references to pop culture and iconic soundtrack.
Although set in what seemingly resembles medieval times and the characters costumes fit the
backdrop, Shrek 2 presents modern references which enable the audience to realize the mockery of
today s world. Knowing that Fiona is a princess as well, we instantly know that Far Far Away is where
the royals live. The film creators draw this city in a way that looks strikingly similar to Hollywood. As
Shrek and Fiona arrive in front of her parents castle, crowds await them cheering. Royals are put in a
standard and admiration similar to those of celebrities, while the cheering crowds at the gate
resembles obsessive fans. The creator s use of this medieval Hollywood works well because people
are often idolized and idealized. Shrek displays an obvious hesitance on visiting the in laws since he is
aware his image

March 2013, and at its peak, Target Canada had 133 stores. However, the expansion into Canada was
beset with problems, including supply chain issues that resulted in stores with aisles of empty shelves
and higher than expected retail prices. Target Canada racked up losses of $2.1 billion in its short life,
and the store s botched expansion was characterized by the Canadian and US media as a spectacular
failure, an unmitigated, disaster and a gold standard case study in what retailers should not attempt to

Why Are Introverts Not Being Recognize
Why aren t introverts not being recognize for their skills is it because they are being silence by the
extroverts or are they just don t want to talk at all. Well one part of this has to do with our society and
how extroverts have control over everything in our schools, work places, events, and even the
government I m not saying extroverts are bad I m and that way both extroverts, and introverts function
as part of a society. In western society extroverts has really good communication skills and they
communicate petty well in our society but introverts communicate differently some introverts will try
and just fit in with the group or they will just remain silence at a meeting. Introverts sometimes
suggest opinions socially they have some unique skills for example they have writing skills and work
skills. Some introverts don t like doing group projects because ... Show more content on

Here s the reason why introverts aren t being recognize we live in a world where everyone does a lot
of group events, communicate at work or just hanging out with friends on the weekends. Second the
reason why introverts aren t being recognize because there is no one willing to change the way we
think about introverts. Third, introverts seen to want to work alone because they can focus on what
need to complete in their work place, or in school. Four, in our society extroverts seen to have more
skills then introverts but this is not true at all because introverts seen to have the same type of skills
just like the extroverts but the introverts have a difference mind set in their brains. Finally, in today s
world introverts had to find some way of learning to adapt to their work environment, school and how
they communicate with other people in our society and believe me it can be very hard in life but
introverts can do it because they have the skills to do

Hockey Players Are Pretty Good People
So this brings up my first point and ethical dilemma; is it right for the NHL to put their players in this
town? One can argue that is not the responsibility of the NHL to control the actions of their players,
however, is it a good idea to even present the opportunity for a millionaire athlete to be tempted by
this excessive town, that is Las Vegas? Generally, hockey players are pretty good people, including
professionals playing in the NHL, or instance; P.K. Subban, current Nashville Predator, and former
defenseman for the Montreal Canadiens made an outstanding donation of $10 million dollars to the
Montreal Children s Hospital. Nick Foligno, Captain of the Columbus Blue Jackets also donated $1
million dollars to the Boston Children s Hospital after they treated his daughter for a congenital heart
disease, supporting the positive reputation of the players, being mostly, kind hearted and generous
guys off the ice. On the contrary, hockey players are known to have a bit of a reputation for being
partiers, Chicago Blackhawks star Patrick Kane has often been spotted having a few more beverages
than he should in downtown Chicago, he also got in trouble with the law back in the summer of 2009
for an altercation with a cab driver over $0.20 cents. Not to say that every NHL player that visits, or
plays in Las Vegas will be a drug addict and get arrested. Nonetheless, by the NHL placing the Golden
Knights franchise in Las Vegas, it presents a lot of temptation for these young

Nomadic Human Hazing
Introduction
What is hazing? As stated by Alvarez D.M. (2015) hazing can be defined as the practice of initiating
new members into a group, often through harassment and humiliation . (p.43) However, if hazing is so
bad why is it still around, wouldn t an intelligent society discontinue harmful practices? Both the act
of hazing and the willingness to be hazed are rooted in the deepest parts of human nature. Any social
animal relies on its group members to survive. New members of a group are thoroughly vetted in all
social species; this can be seen most clearly in wolves. A lone wolf attempting to join a new pack must
follow a certain form of behaviors, if the new wolf is not deemed worthy it is either driven off or
killed. Ancient nomadic humans ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It would be used as an additional form of correction for offenders (Mowrey, R., 2012. The general
form of punishment for hazing is dismissal from the organization (Mowrey, R., 2012.) This is not the
same as dismissal from the school, generally a person is dismissed from a fraternity, sorority, team or
community they were a part of. This form a punishment, though a strong deterrent, has its drawbacks
although common, the dismissal approach fails to address the harm done to the affect communities,
such as the team, school, or organization. (Mowrey, R., 2012). Restorative justice is not some mythical
state that requires chanting and incense. What would happen is that the offenders and the affected
parties would meet after the original punishment. The affected person or persons would state exactly
what they were thinking during the hazing and what they need to feel right again (Mowrey, R., 2012).
The offender would not be left voiceless, they would be given time to speak about what they were
thinking and what they feel is just repayment. This sounds like it might just be a waste of time, but it
is actually proven to decrease revenge acts against victims, it also increases the amount of satisfaction
victims feel with their cases (Mowrey, R., 2012). Often the perpetrators offer genuine statements of
remorse (Mowrey, R.,

Taxation What extent of government regulation allows the citizens of the country the maximum
amount of liberty? How much should the government intervene to protect the consumer? These are
questions that every society must answer when developing their economic system. And for each
question there are multiple answers. Some believe that little to no regulation is necessary, that the
market place has natural laws of its own. Others disagree, saying that it is the government s duty to

The tax will affect the demand for cigarettes. It has been shown through several empirical studies that
imposition of taxes leads to a decrease in smoking. Those states that have imposed taxes have
witnessed lower levels of smoking and those states that have not imposed steep taxes have witnessed
lower levels of reduction in smoking. As smoking becomes more expensive, the number of cigarettes
smoked falls. There is no direct effect on the supply, however, when the demand for cigarettes fall the
supply will be reduced. Several factors of production that are employed in producing cigarettes will be
unemployed. Employees will have to leave for other industries. Land and buildings that are involved
in cigarette production and distribution will be reduced. For instance, the New York offices of Altria
are being closed down and about 400 workers will be laid off. The increase in taxes will affect the
equilibrium price and quantity. The price of cigarettes will go up initially by $1 if a tax of $1 is
imposed. However, in reaction to the additional taxation and reduction in demand, cigarette companies
will come up with some brands of cigarettes that cost less, the net effect on price will be that the final
prices of the cigarettes will increase, but if low price introductions are taken into account the price
increase will be lower than $1. In case of quantity, there will be a

Charter Schools Vs. Public Schools
At the foundation of the American public school system is the belief that every child deserves a
quality education. To this end, the public school system in America has undergone many reforms. One
of which has been charter schools. Charter schools are independent public schools of choice working
under the auspices of a charter and not governed by the board of education. The charter can be written
by parents, teachers, school administrators, community leaders, educational businesses, etc. It
determines the school s guiding principles, management and accountability systems. The state
approves the charter and provides funding for the school. Families choose these schools for their
children. ( Resistance Hinders Success, 2004) Charter schools differ from traditional public schools on
three basic principles: accountability, choice and autonomy. Charter schools are held accountable for
their ability to educate students, management of finances and handle operations. If they do not meet
the guidelines established by the charter they are closed. They give families a choice as to what school
their children will attend. Finally, charter schools have more autonomy than traditional public schools.
They are able to make their own decisions regarding curriculum and school governance and can focus
on academic achievement instead of bureaucracy. ( Resistance Hinders Success, 2004) Ray Budde
first introduced the idea of charter schools in the United States in 1974.

How Vitamins Are Essential For Normal Health And Growth
Vitamins are organic molecules that are essential for normal health and growth. Because vitamins are
not synthesized in the body, they need to be obtained in trace amounts from the diet (Timberlake,
2015). The human body cannot produce all of the nutrients needed to function. There are many
different types of vitamins the human body needs. Each vitamin has a different function that helps the
body to perform specific activities like produce energy, boost the immune system, regulate cell and
tissue growth, protect cells from damage, guide mineral utilization, etc. (Timberlake, 2015). If the
human body does not receive enough of the vitamins it needs, it can lead to many deficiencies and
altered functions that over time can foster illness development. Vitamins are a necessity that humans
need to sustain life. According to the book, General, Organic, and Biological Chemistry: Structures of
Life, vitamins are classified into two groups by solubility: water soluble and fat soluble. Water soluble
vitamins contain polar groups which make them soluble in the aqueous environment of the cells.
Water soluble vitamins, such as B complex vitamins and vitamin C, need to dissolve in water before
the human body can dissolve them (Timberlake, 2015). These vitamins must be absorbed in the foods
humans consume daily. Fat soluble vitamins are non polar compounds that are soluble in the fat
components of the body such as at deposits and cell membranes. Fat soluble vitamins, such as
vitamins A,

Napoleon And Stalin Animal Farm Essay
Animal Farm is a political allegory concerning power about the Russian Revolution. At the beginning
of Animal Farm , power was used to achieve great things. It brought all animals of Manor Farm
together but after an initial influence of power, it began to destroy the community that they had
worked together to form. This can be seen by the character development of Napoleon who is thought
to potray Joseph Stalin, the leader of the Soviet Union during the mid 1920 s. They were both leaders
that abused their power and used ruthless methods to rule over the community. For instance, Napoleon
and Stalin both abused their given power, one of the similarities between them was their act of
violence. In the novella, Animal Farm by George orwell, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the novella, Animal Farm , by George Orwell, Orwell states, Napoleon had accepted, through
Whymper, a contract for four hundred eggs a week.... Their method was to fly up the rafters and there

stopped and decreed that any animal giving so much as a grain of corn to a hen should be punished by
death (pg.68). This means that Napoleon killed all the chickens because they didn t want to give them
anymore eggs. Napoleon never consulted with the hens to give up their products. This is to symbolise
what Stalin did in the past when he wanted to take the lands away from profiting farmers because
private property is against the government and socialism. Both of them tried to control the food
production and would not mind killing to get the production process smoother. Furthermore, both
dictators ruled over their subjects with an iron hand. Orwell states, ...but it was cruel work, and the
animals could not feel so hopeful about it as they had felt before. They were always cold and usually
hungry as well (pg 66). This means that Napoleon would make the animals work hard no matter how
the harsh conditions were. In relation to this, Stalin made loyal proletariat workers work hard until
they got too tired and incompetent. Overall, both dictators governed their people

The Importance Of Rape Views
Sometimes it feels like students get the same lectures over and over, ones with the same content, same
lessons, and same takeaways. Understandably, it becomes harder to feel involved in these lectures and
even more difficult to want to change because of one whether that change comes from altering how
you act around others or how you fundamentally react to situations. This is unfortunately very true for
how educators are teaching the student body and faculty about how rape cases are handled and the
preventative and reactive measures in place at Brigham Young University. The instructions have
become tedious, boring, and repetitive. Because of this, students aren t investing in the problem, they

In order to get everyone and anyone invested in learning about how to confront rape, lecturers and
workshops need to begin teaching in ways that engage the listeners, to employ methods that will get
their listeners interested in what they re teaching and to be better prepared. It s easy to agree that you
would rather know how to perform CPR before you re faced with someone who needs it to save their
life and aren t trying to look up a demo on Youtube video while someone s life is in danger. Although
rape is a different scenario completely and I understand that it has far more traumatic consequences
than I could even imagine, but, heaven forbid, if I am ever faced with a situation of sexual assault
either personally or with someone I love I certainly would wish I had known everything about the
policies beforehand. What we need are lecturers who are able to reach us on a more personal level,
who can look us in the eye and grab our attention then help us to have a change in heart, to create a
desire to learn more, to become professionals and advocates of knowledge, especially relating to cases
of sexual assault. Unfortunately, there is still an issue of students who feel like they know

Study on Administration Errors for Woodcock-Johnson III...
This study examined administration and scoring errors made by graduate students when administering
the Woodcock Johnson III Tests of Cognitive Abilities (WJ III COG). In the past studies have been
conducted on graduate student errors made on other assessment of cognitive abilities, such as the
Wechsler Scales. This study s findings were similar to previous studies. The study participants
consisted of 36 graduate students who attended a school psychology program at a metropolitan
university. There were 31 females and 5 males, of which there were 30 Caucasian, 4 Latino, 1 Asian
and 1 African American. All of the students were first year students, enrolled in cognitive assessment
courses taught by the same professor (Ramos, 2009, pp. 653). All students were required to administer
the WJ III COG 4 times, first to a classmate, and then 3 more times to volunteers. The first
administration for each student was not considered for the study, which produced 108 testing
administrations. These administrations and scores were then examined by advanced level graduate
students taught by the same professor. The instrument used for scoring the administrations was a
checklist first created by Schermerhorn and Alfonso, and was designed to record the frequency and
types of errors made during the administration and scoring of the test (Ramos, 2009, pp. 653). After
each of the 108 tests were scored using the checklist, it was found that there were 500 errors made.

Political Issues On Climate Change Essay
Political Issues on Climate Change In today s political climate, individuals are more polarized than
ever over climate issues. We don t see much agreement that for whatever the reason, climate change is
affecting the Earth. The issues over climate change has hit the media and the environmentalist has
done a lot to shined light on the issue as well but, a lot of the citizens still believe that global warming
isn t real. If we are not educated about the issues regarding a sustainable living and about the climate
changes going on in current world, then the issue can t be solved. Educating children when they are
young can be a great way to teach living a sustainable life style. We the people and the politicians
need to take a stand and create awareness in schools about living a sustainable life and educate the
new generations to care about the negative human impacts on the world. To begin with, is the problem
of climate change or what we call global warming and how it s affecting the planet we call home.
Climate change is when you start to notice things around you in the environment changing like when
the winters become much warmer and the summer temperatures hitting record highs. Also, when you
start your television to notice the extreme floods tearing down our cities and then afterwards they don
t see rainfall for weeks which then, leads to the extreme droughts and fires. For instance, we create
pollution and that leads to greenhouse gases which traps in heat in

Neutral Subscale Research
To properly understand the research question frame, we must explore the instrument in general and the
methodological critiques that led to the short form used in this study. Also of note is the research
focusing solely on the masculine and feminine subscales to the exclusion of the social desirability
scale. We will briefly explore specific BSRI applications with respect to variables other than gender
(e.g. race ethnicity). We will proceed with a literature review specifically focused on neutral subscale
research and use.
BSRI Development Background and the Social Desirability Scale Bem (1974) developed the Bem Sex
Role Inventory to measure three constructs: Masculinity, Femininity, and Androgyny. The original

Twenge (1997) suggested that scores on the masculine subscale, and the feminine subscale to a lesser
degree, have rose over time with respect to gender. The rise was attributed to effects from culture and
environmental factors leading women to identify with more masculine personality traits (Twenge,
1997). Auster and Ohm (2000) explored the measures in a contemporary American setting to assess
score validity since the original BSRI was introduced 25 years earlier. The findings suggested that
there was little change in validity for feminine scores but a significant change in the masculine
constructs between the 1972 population and the 1999 population. Additionally, in the intervening 25
years, mean scores for masculine items rose while mean scores for feminine items fell (Auster Ohm,
2000). As with most BSRI studies, scores were provided for the masculine and feminine items, yet

The Heart Of A Human
The heart of a human is a vital internal organ consists of cardiac muscles, which pump and circulate
blood contained oxygen, hormones and necessary nutrients throughout the body. Heart rate is the
amount of poundings of the heart per unit of time, usually in beats per minute (bpm). The heart rate
can change due to the body s physical needs including oxygen absorption and carbon dioxide
excretion. The normal resting heart rate of an adult human ranges from 60 to100 beats per minute.
During sleep, the heart can beat slower in the range of 40 50 beats per minute, which considered
normal. (Wikipedia, 2015)
From the initial observations, heart rates tend to vary from times to times especially with different
activities such as standing, running and lying down. The purpose of this experiment is to identify
what, if any, relationship exists between human s heart rates with the different intensity levels of any
physical exertion.
If a subject is exposed to different physical activity intensity levels for the same amount of time with
the heart rate recorded in beats per one minute. Then, the subject s heart rate will significantly increase
in relation to the higher intensity degrees of any physical exertion.
The exercises and even the anticipations of increasing physical activities can trigger the response of
autonomic nervous system to produce a more appropriate suite of physiological changes that prompt
the body for the exercise.

carnapping incident and merely relied on the communication to her by Parlade in the morning. With
the foregoing, Aguirre could not solely base the accusation by mere suppositions and presumptions in
order to incriminate Takad.
II. CREDIBILITY OF THE EYEWITNESSES
First. Zenny, on her testimony, stated that she knew of the incident when Parlade told her about it at
7:00 in the morning while Parlade alledged that after he ran to chase the tricycle which was then
driven by the carnapper and he failed to catch up with it, he and Zenny looked for the tricycle the
whole night.
Second. The tricycle was stolen in the early morning of November 21, and Parlade gave his statement
to the police in the afternoon of the same day as supported by his affidavit which was timed 1:30pm.
Third. Parlade said he was 5 meters away and so somewhat near from the tricycle when it was stolen
which was against his sworn statement wherein he stated medyo malayo . And when he shouted, the
carnapper looked back but suddenly started the motor. From that Parlade said he recognized the
carnapper whose purpose was to flee and so merely glanced back. This was incoherent with his
testimony in the witness stand that the man looked backed at him in the terms medyo matagal po .

Herpes Simplex Virus Analysis
Herpes simplex virus is epidemic in the United States; however, precise statistics are unknown as it is
not a reportable disease and 50 70% of recurrent infections are asymptomatic (McCance, Huether,
Brashers, 2014, p. 932). Furthermore, it is estimated that 80% of infected individuals do not know that
they are positive for HSV (McCance et al., 2014, p. 932) There are two serotypes of the virus: HSV 1
and HSV 2. HSV 2 is what commonly causes genital herpes and recurring infections (McCance et al.,
2014). HSV 1 more commonly causes cold sores but there is increased incidence of genital herpes
caused by HSV 1 due to transmission during oral sex (however, this could be due to increased
screening and testing rather than a rise in oral sex rates) (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention
[CDC], 2015). HSV is transmitted by mucosal contact with an individual who has a lesion that is
shedding the herpes virus; however, the virus can also be transmitted when an individual who is
infected with HSV is shedding the virus asymptomatically and this is presumed to be when most
transmission occurs (McCance et al., 2014, p. 933). A 22 year old female comes to your primary care

Employees Personal Values
Introduction
Employee Personal Value
Employee personal value or Employee value proposition comprises much more than salaries and
benefits, it reflects the entire employment experience at a company including benefits, career
development opportunities, rewards, culture, and management style. The employee personal values
should align with the company s brand and be reflected consistently to employees. Otherwise,
employees may grow cynical about the company and ultimately become less productive or leave the
organization entirely. In addition to relevant skills, employers seek employees who have the personal
values, characteristics, and personality traits that spell success. Minchington (2005) defines an

Semiotic Or Semilogical Theory Of Communication
1. INTRODUCTION
Communication serves a variety of purposes and takes on a variety of forms; and is so much more
than merely a transmission of information. Often communication includes ambiguous forms (which
may be either deliberate or spontaneous). How is one to interpret a speaker s utterances and how is
this interpretation done? The Relevance Theory of Sperber and Wilson (1986) to be explored in this
paper proposes an interpretation of utterances based on a theory in pragmatics about how a hearer
interprets a speaker s utterances.
In the past, two models have been put forward to explain how communication is processed. They are
as follows:
1.1. The Code Model

their shared knowledge). There is therefore a certain degree of reliance on the hearer making the right
inferences from what is not explicitly communicated. This may be diagrammatised as follows:
Speaker s thought/intention + context mediated information encoded transmitted decoded + context
mediated information intention/thought understood.
Inference may be understood from the following example: The message Tom has bought the Times
requires contextual knowledge for it to be understood i.e. that the Times is the name of a newspaper
publication. Also, it is to be inferred from the statement that rather than buying the entire press
enterprise, Tom has merely bought one issue, and probably the issue of the day in question.
The Inferential model includes Grice s model of implicature (i.e. what is meant, suggested or hinted at
but not overtly stated). Therefore, in order for communication to be successful, Grice proposed the
Cooperative Principle which includes the maxims of quantity, quality relevance and manner. The
Relevance theory develops the maxim of relevance.
With regards to metaphorical language, there is no sharp dividing line between it and the literal. The
same cognitive processes are involved in understanding all utterances. This distinguishes our view
from the classical (Aristotelian) view of figurative language where figurative utterances

Descriptive Essay On Chicago Basketball Game
Last night I made the 65 minute trip to Mechanicsburg, Ohio to take in the division six ,region 24
playoff game, between undefeated Mechanicsburg(10 0) and 7 3 Miami East. This was my first time
seeing Miami East play. I was hoping to see a battle for four quarters, but felt the home team was
going to be moving to week twelve.
This one started out strangely, when Kaleb Romero, the Indians quarterback was picked off on the
games third play, but a big hit on the Miami East player resulted in a fumble, that the Indians
recovered.
After getting a fresh start with the ball Romero was sacked by, Logan West, with 9:34 left on the
quarter. West would have his number called several times as this game went on. At 6 6,234 pounds, he

yards out to make this a 38 0 game. The point after kick was good to increase the Indians lead to,39

The gentleman setting next to me had told me the JV team from Miami East was undefeated and had
been since biddy league. Well when they came onto the field for the teams final drive, you did not
know if they knew this was a,39 0 game. Because they easily moved the ball twenty one yards for
their teams first score, with Freshman Kaleb scoring from two yards out to end the game.
The Vikings had recovered a fumble to set up the score as the Vikings never did stop trying in this

Cause of Eating Disorders Essays
Cause of Eating Disorders In America, today we often hear of people who suffer from illness such as
cancer, aids etc. what we often don t hear about is the illness that effects a lot of people each year that

had suffered from anorexia. It all started when her family and acquaintances started to say that she was

For example they might loose fifty pounds and still think they are too fat. They eat very little, if any at
all, but most of them claim that they do not get hungry. It is a very dangerous and serious disease.
Sports are one of the factors that lead to eating disorders. Gymnasts and dancers have to maintain a
small skinny frame. They tried to maintain or loose weight to a stay in shape. There are many other
sports were athletes have eating disorders. Some examples are track, swimming, cross country, youth
football and other sports. In order to maintain their weight most of them eat less and they over
exercise to keep them in shape. Another cause of this sometimes fatal disease has to do with body
image and peer pressure. A person with eating disorder typically suffers from a body image
disturbance that can impact many areas his or her life. Most women are given the message at a very
young age that in order to be happy and successful, they must be thin. For example, every time you
walk into a store you are surrounded by the images of emaciated models that appear on the front cover
of all the fashion magazines. Thousands of teenage girls are starving themselves this very minute
trying to attain what fashion industry considers to be the ideal figure. The average model weights less
than an average woman does. Teenagers need to realize society s ideal body image is not achievable.

Argument Against Military Intervention For Humanitarian...
ARGUMENT AGAINST MILITARY INTERVENTION FOR HUMANITARIAN RELIEF An
understanding of where the Syrian healthcare system stood before the civil war, the toll of the fighting
and intentional targeting of medical personnel/infrastructure, ongoing humanitarian efforts, and
America s actions to date enable an informed evaluation of whether or not to use American military
forces in a humanitarian assistance role in Syria. This context allows for an examination of the
limitations of humanitarian aid, the advantages/disadvantages of plausible courses of action involving
the military and the threat of mission creep. Before evaluating the merits of available courses of action
the military can take to address Syria s medical crisis, it is important to identify and understand the
limitations of humanitarian assistance in general. Taylor Seybolt, Associate Professor in International
Affairs at the University of Pittsburgh an expert on military and humanitarian intervention, cites the
following inherent limitations of humanitarian intervention: it does not provide a lasting solution to
conflict; it has the potential to prolong wars; it can foster economic dependence; and it inhibits strong
state development.19 When these limitations are considered in regard to Syria, military intervention
for the sole purpose of providing medical humanitarian support does not make sense. Providing
medical aid in isolation to the Syrian people would address an effect of the civil war rather than

Impact of Fire on the Geology of Soils Essay
Fires are an important and healthy process in many ecosystems. The lack of fires can cause new plant
communities to invade an area . The regular occurrence of fires can keep one plant community
dominate, like oak savannas. Fires can leave burnt sticks the size of trees and clumps of charcoal
where bunch grass use to grow, but not for long. An area that was burned will re grow, grasslands will
be green the next growing season and forests will typically show new growth soon after. Somewhere
in the process of a fire the soil it travels over is effected. Alterations happen immediately after a fire
passes over a soil and can continue years after a fire has gone. Soils are impacted in two main ways;
by the entering of nutrients form the brunt ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The differences between the two may effect how the alterations of soil are disturbed, but both will
undergo the same general processes.
The heat of a fire has many effects on the properties of a soil. The effects are not the same for every
soil type because it depends on what is present in the soil before the fire. In my paper, I will be
exploring different types of alterations a soil may undergo as a result of a fire. The three main areas I
am going to look at are; change in color and structure, hydrophobic properties after a fire, and the
alteration in nutrient cycles, in particular nitrogen. In conjunction with what changes occur to the
properties of a soil, I will also be looking at management practices that can lessen the undesirable
changes in soil.
Effects on soil color and structure
In heating most substances, change in color and texture or structure occurs, this generally holds true in
the case of soils. A. L. Ulery and R. C. Graham (1993) did a study on how fire alters both color and
texture of soils. The color of the burned soils tended to redden in hue and have higher chromas and
values after burning, than did the unburned soil of the same type (Ulery and Graham, 1993). One
reason that the color changed is most likely due to the translocation and transformation of nutrients
and minerals in the soil. As the soil burns the heat alters individual minerals in the soil. The redder
color in the soil was caused by an

Blaiming the Paparazzi
In 1997, Princess Diana died in a car crash in Paris, which was blamed on the paparazzi that were
chasing her. Because the accident happened in France, no British charges can be laid against the
photographers. However, nine were charged with manslaughter in France, but the charges were thrown
out in 2002. Three photographers Jacques Langevin, Christian Martinez and Fabrice Chassery were
convicted of invasion of privacy for taking pictures of Princess Diana and were each fined one euro in
2006. Of course it is obvious that the public is intensely curious to know more about celebrities, but
don t you think celebrities have the right to be private?
First of all, let us define who the paparazzi are and what they do for a living. A paparazzo is a
photographer who takes pictures of athletes, actors, celebrities, politicians etc... on a daily basis. As a
matter of fact, paparazzi s tend to chase celebrities wherever they go. Whether it was to the Academy
Awards, shopping at a mall, or even going to the gym. Nowadays the paparazzi are going way beyond
the limits and are becoming more likely bizarre. They are competing against each other and are trying
to have the best exposed pictures of celebrities they could get at any cost. They don t care if they hurt
or stress celebrities. They simply want to be the best.
California s first civil anti paparazzi law was signed on January 1st, 1999. This law protects celebrities
from physical invasions and trespassing. This law wasn t enough, so on

Amarna Letters Essay
The Amarna Letters are a significant ancient source because of the insights they give into the political,
social, and economical conditions of the time. They help modern day historians establish the history
and chronology (both absolute and relative) of the Amarna period because of the range of
correspondences discovered. We know that the Amarna Letters are a collection of around 350
cuneiform tablets that include communications between Egypt and the big powers of the region during
the 18th Dynasty and the reign of Akhenten. From the tablets we read in class we saw examples of the
political conditions . From this it s clear that each ruler during the time held himself equal with others.

For example, as talked about in the second paper for this course, we can use the Amarna Letters to
surmise what information may be contained in Linear A. From the Amarna Letters we see it was
important to early civilizations to keep record of negotiations whether they are of marriage, of
shipments, or of war and peace with other empires. One record among the Amarna Letters is regarding
a shipment of glass: To the king, my lord, my god... since the king, my lord, has ordered some glass I
send it to the king... (Amarna Letters EA 314). Another record among the Amarna Letters is regarding
the halt of trade: He has now stationed ships of Arwada in Ampi and in Sigata so grain cannot be
brought into Sumur. Nor are we able to enter Sumur...write to the palace about this matter (Amarna
Letters EA 98). One would assume that in order to create a trading empire, it would be pertinent to
know what was being imported and exported thus it s possible that Linear A represents a shipping
record or a trade agreement. It could also serve as a list of trading routes and correspondence about
problems with the routes or fighting that would impede trading such as in the latter example from the
Amarna Letters . Even though the Amarna Letters were written much later than Linear A, they can still

Cryonics is the theory of freezing people, and then reanimating them in the future. In my childhood,
we heard these rumors of Disney keeping Walt Disney s head frozen in hopes of reanimating him
when the technology came. There was a TV series, Out of Jimmy s Head, that parodied this rumor,
and played around with the subject of cryogenically frozen brain transplants. Even though the boy had
his brain switched for the cartoonist s frozen brain, he still had his own conscious, but with the
hallucinations of the cartoonist s. However, this is a TV series that appeared on Cartoon Network, so
this insight may have been an oversight in their planning.
The reason cryonics is in development was so that if a person had cancer, or lung cancer like Walt
Disney, they could be frozen and reanimated once a cure is found. And there are some people who
wished to be living fossils, or to see the future with their own eyes. This concept was also seen in
Futurama, as Fry tripped into an ice chamber until he was unfrozen in 3000. The main problem is
trying to preserve human tissue by freezing it is that water in the tissue forms ice and causes damage
(Thomson). Currently, they have found a way to keep ice from forming by replacing a person s blood

For companies as large as ExxonMobil, which possess considerable capital resources and are able to

Who is God? Though there are many religions throughout the world and many gods are
worshipped, but evidence points to one divine designer, a perfect God. God not only created all things
that are in existence today, but He also sustains them. God existed before anything was created, but He
realized the world needed something in it so He created man. Before anything God knew all that was
going to happen, since He is omniscient, omnipotent, and omnipresent. God is a part of the trinity. His
creativeness, power, intelligence, holiness, infinite nature, wisdom, are uncomprehend able by man

Thesis Statement About Arsenics
Thesis statement: Water, food, and air that contains arsenic causes human health problems.
Background and history of Arsenic? The elemental Arsenic was discovered by Albert Magnus in 1250
A.D. The word Arsenic comes from a Greek word Arsenikon, means yellow orpiment. Arsenic has an
atomic number of 33 with a melting point of 1141 degrees Fahrenheit or 889 Kelvin. The density is
5.75 g cm 3 and the atomic mass is 74.922 g/mol. Arsenic was already known for a long time during
the Egyptian, Greeks, and Chinese civilizations. But identifying this chemical as an element such as
the atomic number and the atomic mass, were discovered by Albert Magnus. The appearance of
arsenic is semi metal and has a silver grayish color. Arsenic were used ... Show more content on

Long term exposure to low doses of arsenic may change the way cells communicate, and reduce their
ability to function, according to researchers at Dartmouth University. It could play a role in the
development of diabetes, cancer, vascular disease and lung disease. The Food and Drug
Administration says that long term exposure to high levels of arsenic is associated with higher rates of
skin cancer, bladder cancer and lung cancer, as well as heart disease.
(https://www.livescience.com/23304 arsenic rice fda health effects.html). Arsenic goes into the human
body through inhalation, ingestion, and skin absorption. If the arsenic inhaled, it goes into the lung
and then goes into the bloodstream. Then liver, will filter the blood and the arsenic will be removed.
Once, the arsenic is removed, it will excreted by urine. If the arsenic was ingested it will go to the
gastrointestinal tract and be removed through human feces. There were two types of Arsenic, the
organic and inorganic. The organic is less harmful than inorganic. In acute arsenic toxicity organ
damage could occur and may lead to death. On the other hand, disfiguration of extremities due to
chronic arsenic exposure may lead to the development of malignant tumors (ww sciencedirect com.lib
proxy.fullerton.edu). Furthermore, long term exposure of inorganic arsenic can lead to skin becoming
dark and appearing of the warts mostly on foot, hands, and upper body. Inhaling large amount of
arsenic, especially inorganic, creates lung irritation, sore throat, and inflammation of esophagus.
Arsenic can also damage the heart such as coronary heart disease, diffuse capillary leakage, and

The Negative Impact of Genetic Testing Essay
Although genetic testing can benefit society in numerous ways, such as the diagnosis of vulnerabilities
to inherited diseases and ancestry verification, it also has the precarious capability to become a tool in
selecting a more favorable genetic makeup of an individuals and ultimately cloning humans. Genetic
testing will depreciate our quality of life and may result in discrimination, invasion of privacy, and
harmful gene therapy.
In 1993 a pamphlet by National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute was released heralding Gene
Therapy. Although gene testing had been around and used for various procedures and breakthroughs,
gene therapy had the potential to change the face of research, as we knew it. Medical scientists had

Only about one percent of her T cells incorporated the virus into their DNA.
In another case, an 18 year old Arizona man with a rare metabolic disease participated in a
controversial experiment which marked the first death attributed to gene therapy. Jesse Gelsinger, a
high school graduate who episodically suffered from a serious genetic disorder that often leads to
coma and death in childhood, died Sept. 17, 1999 after undergoing an experimental therapy
administered at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia. Thousands of U.S. patients have been
treated with various kinds of gene therapy, an experimental technique in which doctors use live
viruses and other means to transport potentially therapeutic genes into the body just as Gelsinger was.
Gelsinger suffered from Ornithine Transcarbamylase (OTC) deficiency, a genetic disorder that affects
mostly boys. The disease blocks the body s ability to break down ammonia, a normal byproduct of
metabolism, and often causes death soon after birth. As a result the FDA initiated proceeding that
could have prevented the University of Pennsylvania gene therapy researcher, James Wilson, from
testing experimental drugs or products on human subjects in this country. He repeatedly or
deliberately violated regulations governing the proper conduct of clinical studies.

  • 2. Fluoride And Sugar Causes Tooth Maintaining a healthy smile means proper brushing, flossing, and using fluoride. Fluoride is a natural mineral that helps to strengthen enamel, reducing the amount of bacteria that attack your teeth and preventing cavities. Bridgeview Dental Group, located in Kodiak, specializes in family dental care, including teeth whitening, root canals, and tooth implants. They ve highlighted a few of the myths that surround fluoride use, debunking them to reveal the truth. Sugar Causes Tooth Decay: While this myth is partially true, as sugar is a vehicle for bacteria, the main cause of cavities is because the enamel breaks down and doesn t defend the tooth against germs. Fluoride promotes stronger enamel, which protects the teeth from those oncoming ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Traveling The World, By Mary Anne Radmacher Artist and author Mary Anne Radmacher once said I am not the same having seen the moon shine on the other side of the world. This quote expresses how seeing the world affects you. Two years ago I traveled to Europe with my school and that experience has dramatically changed my perspective on life. Traveling the world made me realize how lucky I am to live in the United States. I have read books that detail the struggles of Holocaust victims. I have even visited a Holocaust museum in Washington, DC but nothing can compare to the sadness I felt when I entered the wrought iron gate of the Dachau concentration camp. This camp is located in Dachau, Germany and served as a prison for Jewish people and prisoners of war during World War II. This ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Climate Change Reflection After watching the move How To Let Go and Love All The Things Climate Can t Change, my perception of our world completely changed. With the overwhelming facts to the heartfelt stories Josh Fox exposes viewers to the damage that is yet to come. This movie was so effective as opposed to other climate documentaries because Fox explains the human aspects of climate change. Traveling to twelve countries on six continents he explains how ocean warming, sea level rise, and air quality are already negatively affecting people in their everyday lives. People don t connect with facts, people connect with people. This is something I am realizing is critical in getting others on board with sustainability initiatives and to re think the role we play as consumers. After graduating I want to work as a sustainability director for a large company. At the start of my sustainability journey I am discovering that the most essential part of a sustainability director s job is to be personable. People will be more likely to implement change when they realize how it benefits or affects them and their organization. Without effective communication, projects will never be funded, ideas will not be considered, and it is less likely that your impact will be as substantial as it could. As a sustainability advocate, it will be my job to promote and implement initiatives that will help us now, but also generations to come will feel those effects. Josh Fox shows it is the grassroot groups and people stepping up to protect our planet because they know it is necessary. I have developed the mindset, if not me than who? Out of all ten of the things that climate can t change, I believe that the most important one is resilience. As sustainability professionals, it is a fact of life that you will be told no. But the key is moving on from that. You can not get yourself worked up just because things didn t play out how we want. We can also not let getting told no beat us down, not everyone understands or wants to understand the environmental catastrophes that are upon us. With this in mind, we should use getting told no to drive us forward and work even harder on the next project we have. Resilience stood out to me in the movie when the Samoa tribe ... The film s running time is 95 minutes and can be categorized under the genre of comedy and drama. It follows five teenagers, who all vary in personality and stereotype, get stuck in detention on a Saturday morning. They are all different types of people in nature but when stripped down and seen through without a stereotypical lens, they all have something to share and have something in common amongst themselves despite being so different from each other. In the movie, they are stereotyped as, a basket case, a brain, an athlete, a princess, and a criminal (IMDB, 2016). The setting takes place in a library and whilst they are in detention, they go through varying phases. They start off with solitude, then proceed to share a few words, and later into the film they start to disclose information about themselves that normally would be very difficult to disclose. While they are in the library they start off as complete strangers and barely talk to each other. As the movie progresses, they start doing a lot of things that a normal group of friends would do such as dancing, playing music, sneaking out together, and even smoking a joint together. Being part of the extremely competitive and constantly evolving textiles, apparel luxury goods industry requires us to constantly strive to be innovative. We must frequently analyze the market, its trends, and all relevant information that can inform us of opportunities and threats that apply to our industry (Textiles, Apparel Luxury Goods). This is especially important for us now as we have lost the trust of many of our customers and our financial health is currently ranked as negative by several reviewers such as the S P Capital IQ Quantitative Stock Report. Lululemon s previous leaders decision to compromise quality and the numerous public disagreements surrounding how the company should be run have led to confusion among our stakeholders and consumers. Recent management changes have caused a further loss of trust amongst our customers. It is imperative that we better our financial health and improve our customers perception of our company within the next year. To help achieve both these objectives, our next big move should be to introduce a wearable health technology product that our consumers can use to monitor their health and track improvements in their fitness. Two factors are central to this proposal: (1) we understand that the climate of our market and industry is extremely competitive and it is vitally important for us to stand out by introducing an innovative and highly desirable product and (2) there currently is a significant trend surrounding the use ... Migraine sufferers typically report a definite pattern to their headaches, and they can report what stimuli bring them on. Most migraine sufferers experience their first attack before the age of 20. There is no single cause of migraines, but the tendency to get migraines does tend to run in families. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Scientists suspect that a caffeine withdrawal could be the possible cause of common migraines. Why? Well, caffeine is a powerful psychoactive drug that is addictive. Caffeine withdrawals produce all the same symptoms as migraine. Chronic caffeine use causes a number of changes to the central nervous system. Caffeine use increases the number of some types of serotonin receptors and some types of adenosine receptors as well. Adenosine is another neurotransmitter; adenosine strongly inhibits serotonin release. Chronic caffeine use increases the number of adenosine receptors.(The body is trying to compensate for the constant presence of caffeine, which occupies and blockades adenosine receptors and thus interferes with adenosine reception.) When caffeine is withdrawn, however, the chronic caffeine user is left with too many adenosine receptors. Having too many adenosine receptors is equivalent to having too much adenosine. As a result, serotonin release is inhibited and this leads to migraine symptoms. As you know there are many drugs used against migraine. Many of these drugs contain caffeine, for good reason: caffeine relieves migraine by reversing caffeine withdrawal. Migraine drugs that contain caffeine include Fiorinal (40mg caffeine), Fioricet (40mg caffeine), Excedrin (65mg caffeine), Anacin (32mg caffeine), Cafergot, Norgesic Forte (60mg caffeine), and others. Overwhelming, the movie is able to depict a fantastic children s romantic fairytale by teaching a life lesson in the use a medieval style with numerous references to pop culture and iconic soundtrack. Although set in what seemingly resembles medieval times and the characters costumes fit the backdrop, Shrek 2 presents modern references which enable the audience to realize the mockery of today s world. Knowing that Fiona is a princess as well, we instantly know that Far Far Away is where the royals live. The film creators draw this city in a way that looks strikingly similar to Hollywood. As Shrek and Fiona arrive in front of her parents castle, crowds await them cheering. Royals are put in a standard and admiration similar to those of celebrities, while the cheering crowds at the gate resembles obsessive fans. The creator s use of this medieval Hollywood works well because people are often idolized and idealized. Shrek displays an obvious hesitance on visiting the in laws since he is aware his image ... To this end, the public school system in America has undergone many reforms. One of which has been charter schools. Charter schools are independent public schools of choice working under the auspices of a charter and not governed by the board of education. The charter can be written by parents, teachers, school administrators, community leaders, educational businesses, etc. It determines the school s guiding principles, management and accountability systems. The state approves the charter and provides funding for the school. Families choose these schools for their children. ( Resistance Hinders Success, 2004) Charter schools differ from traditional public schools on three basic principles: accountability, choice and autonomy. Charter schools are held accountable for their ability to educate students, management of finances and handle operations. If they do not meet the guidelines established by the charter they are closed. They give families a choice as to what school their children will attend. Finally, charter schools have more autonomy than traditional public schools. Because vitamins are not synthesized in the body, they need to be obtained in trace amounts from the diet (Timberlake, 2015). The human body cannot produce all of the nutrients needed to function. There are many different types of vitamins the human body needs. Each vitamin has a different function that helps the body to perform specific activities like produce energy, boost the immune system, regulate cell and tissue growth, protect cells from damage, guide mineral utilization, etc. (Timberlake, 2015). If the human body does not receive enough of the vitamins it needs, it can lead to many deficiencies and altered functions that over time can foster illness development. Vitamins are a necessity that humans need to sustain life. According to the book, General, Organic, and Biological Chemistry: Structures of Life, vitamins are classified into two groups by solubility: water soluble and fat soluble. Water soluble vitamins contain polar groups which make them soluble in the aqueous environment of the cells. Water soluble vitamins, such as B complex vitamins and vitamin C, need to dissolve in water before the human body can dissolve them (Timberlake, 2015). These vitamins must be absorbed in the foods humans consume daily. Fat soluble vitamins are non polar compounds that are soluble in the fat components of the body such as at deposits and cell membranes. Fat soluble vitamins, such as vitamins A, ... The heart rate can change due to the body s physical needs including oxygen absorption and carbon dioxide excretion. The normal resting heart rate of an adult human ranges from 60 to100 beats per minute. During sleep, the heart can beat slower in the range of 40 50 beats per minute, which considered normal. • 27. Semiotic Or Semilogical Theory Of Communication 1. INTRODUCTION Communication serves a variety of purposes and takes on a variety of forms; and is so much more than merely a transmission of information. Often communication includes ambiguous forms (which may be either deliberate or spontaneous). How is one to interpret a speaker s utterances and how is this interpretation done? The Relevance Theory of Sperber and Wilson (1986) to be explored in this paper proposes an interpretation of utterances based on a theory in pragmatics about how a hearer interprets a speaker s utterances. In the past, two models have been put forward to explain how communication is processed. They are as follows: 1.1. The Code Model This model (also known as the Shannon Weaver model (1949)) presents ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... their shared knowledge). There is therefore a certain degree of reliance on the hearer making the right inferences from what is not explicitly communicated. This may be diagrammatised as follows: Speaker s thought/intention + context mediated information encoded transmitted decoded + context mediated information intention/thought understood. Inference may be understood from the following example: The message Tom has bought the Times requires contextual knowledge for it to be understood i.e. that the Times is the name of a newspaper publication. Also, it is to be inferred from the statement that rather than buying the entire press enterprise, Tom has merely bought one issue, and probably the issue of the day in question. The Inferential model includes Grice s model of implicature (i.e. what is meant, suggested or hinted at but not overtly stated). Therefore, in order for communication to be successful, Grice proposed the Cooperative Principle which includes the maxims of quantity, quality relevance and manner. The Relevance theory develops the maxim of relevance. With regards to metaphorical language, there is no sharp dividing line between it and the literal. The same cognitive processes are involved in understanding all utterances. This distinguishes our view from the classical (Aristotelian) view of figurative language where figurative utterances ... ARGUMENT AGAINST MILITARY INTERVENTION FOR HUMANITARIAN RELIEF An understanding of where the Syrian healthcare system stood before the civil war, the toll of the fighting and intentional targeting of medical personnel/infrastructure, ongoing humanitarian efforts, and America s actions to date enable an informed evaluation of whether or not to use American military forces in a humanitarian assistance role in Syria. This context allows for an examination of the limitations of humanitarian aid, the advantages/disadvantages of plausible courses of action involving the military and the threat of mission creep. Before evaluating the merits of available courses of action the military can take to address Syria s medical crisis, it is important to identify and understand the limitations of humanitarian assistance in general. Taylor Seybolt, Associate Professor in International Affairs at the University of Pittsburgh an expert on military and humanitarian intervention, cites the following inherent limitations of humanitarian intervention: it does not provide a lasting solution to conflict; it has the potential to prolong wars; it can foster economic dependence; and it inhibits strong state development.19 When these limitations are considered in regard to Syria, military intervention for the sole purpose of providing medical humanitarian support does not make sense. The regular occurrence of fires can keep one plant community dominate, like oak savannas. Fires can leave burnt sticks the size of trees and clumps of charcoal where bunch grass use to grow, but not for long. An area that was burned will re grow, grasslands will be green the next growing season and forests will typically show new growth soon after. The differences between the two may effect how the alterations of soil are disturbed, but both will undergo the same general processes. The heat of a fire has many effects on the properties of a soil. The effects are not the same for every soil type because it depends on what is present in the soil before the fire. In my paper, I will be exploring different types of alterations a soil may undergo as a result of a fire. The three main areas I am going to look at are; change in color and structure, hydrophobic properties after a fire, and the alteration in nutrient cycles, in particular nitrogen. In conjunction with what changes occur to the properties of a soil, I will also be looking at management practices that can lessen the undesirable changes in soil. Effects on soil color and structure In heating most substances, change in color and texture or structure occurs, this generally holds true in the case of soils. A. L. Ulery and R. C. Graham (1993) did a study on how fire alters both color and texture of soils. The color of the burned soils tended to redden in hue and have higher chromas and values after burning, than did the unburned soil of the same type (Ulery and Graham, 1993). One reason that the color changed is most likely due to the translocation and transformation of nutrients and minerals in the soil. As the soil burns the heat alters individual minerals in the soil. The redder color in the soil was caused by an ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

From the Amarna Letters we see it was important to early civilizations to keep record of negotiations whether they are of marriage, of shipments, or of war and peace with other empires. One record among the Amarna Letters is regarding a shipment of glass: To the king, my lord, my god... since the king, my lord, has ordered some glass I send it to the king... (Amarna Letters EA 314). One would assume that in order to create a trading empire, it would be pertinent to know what was being imported and exported thus it s possible that Linear A represents a shipping record or a trade agreement. It could also serve as a list of trading routes and correspondence about problems with the routes or fighting that would impede trading such as in the latter example from the Amarna Letters . There was a TV series, Out of Jimmy s Head, that parodied this rumor, and played around with the subject of cryogenically frozen brain transplants. Even though the boy had his brain switched for the cartoonist s frozen brain, he still had his own conscious, but with the hallucinations of the cartoonist s.
