Essay about The Extent to Which Tudor Rebellions Have...
The Extent to Which Tudor Rebellions Have Similar Causes
Tudor rebellions were caused by one or more of the following factors: dynastic, political,
religious, and social and economic. There was an element of both similarity and continuity in the
period as most of the rebellions were politically motivated starting with Warbeck s rebellion in
1491 until the end of the period with Essex s rebellion in 1601. This displays clear political
motives across the period. During the reign of Henry VII, many of the rebellions were dynastically
motivated with a series of challenges from pretenders to the throne, Simnel and Warbeck and
rebellions due to heavy taxation; Yorkshire and Cornish anti tax riots.... Show more content on

Nevertheless, dynasty was still a cause of Tudor rebellions but was replaced by succession
especially as Henry VIII did not have an heir and he himself did not have a legitimate claim to
the throne. This occurred with the political coup of Lady Jane Grey in 1553 and Wyatt s
rebellion in 1554 because of Henry VIII s reinstatement of both Mary and Elizabeth who had both
been previously removed from succession. The treason acts help to reduce rebellion as it became
easier to convict people of treason but by the end of the period the Tudor dynasty itself was far
more secure meaning that Wyatt never made public his desire to overthrow Mary as the Tudor
regime was now accepted.
Politically motivated rebellions always involved faction. Simnel and Warbeck s rebellion were
both politically motivated due to Yorkist and Lancastrian faction. Faction was of low importance
in Henry VII s reign as Henry Tudor limited it by control of patronage unlike both Elizabeth and
Henry VIII who advocated it. They had a divide and rule policy. The most common theme that ran
throughout all the politically motivated rebellions was resentment of lowborn ministers, for
example, Wolsey in 1525, Cromwell in 1556 and Essex in 1601 wanted to rid parliament of Cecil

How Did The New Kingdom Change Ancient Egypt
Ancient Egypt was one of the earliest, longest lasting and significant civilizations in world history.
Egypt was located in the Nile River Valley. Egyptian history divided into three separate periods,
such as, the old kingdom, the middle Kingdom, and the new Kingdom. Each Kingdom has different
things that make it unique, and there are some facts and certain characteristics of life that they all
shared. This paper will shows how each kingdom civilized how it changed the Egyptians.
First is Old Kingdom. The Old Kingdom also called the Pyramid Age began about in 2686 B.C.E.
and ended in 2180 B.C.E. The pharaohs, of this time include the third through the sixth dynasty. In
3100 BC, the pharaoh Menes unified Upper and Lower Egypt into one strong. The characteristics of

The New Kingdom of Egypt was also referred as the Egyptian Empire. New Kingdom lasted from
1550 1070 B.C.E., eighteen through twenty dynasties. It was the best and golden era for Egypt
because of the contribution and improvement that happened during that time period. It was a time
of the warrior pharaohs (Roehrig). New Kingdom includes several civilizations of pharaohs.
During Pharaohs of this time period went on the aggressive, attacking areas outside of Egypt.
Another aspect of the New Kingdom was a change in the way that pharaohs in this period were
buried. Few other major characteristics and things that happened during that time was pleasing
god with goods and money, building temples, royal extravagance, building tombs instead
pyramids, and great art scriptures. The Major achievement was gold mines that were used very
significant way by the Pharaohs. It formed the real power behind the throne. And the gold was also
used to build magnificent temples and tombs for everyone. Women played a big role during that
era too. They were given the opportunity and rights that they deserved from long time. The
Egyptian religion gave them a central role in the divine order

The Spanish war gave the United States an empire. At the end of the Spanish war the United States
took Spanish colonies such as Puerto Rico, the Philippines, and many other islands. The creation of
the American Empire leads to the end of the Spanish Empire. The United States wanted to build up
the countries so that markets would open up and purchase American goods and to improve the
American economy.
Do you think the United States is currently an imperialist country? Why or why not? No I do not
think the United States is an imperialist Country. We do not try or even want to take over any
other countries. We want to buy their products instead, and sell our products to them. Also when
the United States attacks another country it is out of defense, we only support wars that are in self
defense. During WWI we took no possessions as our own, and prevented others from doing this.
During WWII we helped to rebuild Japan and Germany instead of taking control, and returned full
power to the Filipino Government. In the Korea and Vietnam War we came to the aide of both
countries. During the Afghanistan war we fought and are still assisting then Government until we

Essay on Worldcom Fraud
Abstract
On March 15, 2005 former CEO of WorldCom, Bernard Ebbers sat in a federal courtroom waiting
for the verdict. As the former CEO of WorldCom, Ebbers was accused of being personally
responsible for the financial destruction of the communications giant. An internal investigation had
uncovered $11 billion dollars in fraudulent accounting practices. Later a second report in 2003
found that during Ebber s 2001 tenure as CEO, the company had over reported earnings and
understated expenses by an astonishing $74.5 billion dollars (Martin, 2005, para 3). This report
included the mismanagement of funds, unethical lending practices among its top executives, and
false bookkeeping which led to loss of tens of thousands of its employees. ... Show more content on

(Farrell, 2005, para 1). Unfortunately for Ebbers, the grand jury wasn t ignorant to the facts of the
case and found Ebbers guilty on nine counts of fraud. He was sentenced to 25 years in prison.
Many critics felt that the sentence was too harsh and others not harsh enough. The sentencing of
Ebbers did not change the situation of the shareholders and employees who lost more than $100
billion in stock value, 17,000 jobs and their entire retirement savings. Ebbers was allowed to
keep one of his homes, $50,000 in cash and a retirement account (Ernst Young, 2005, para 6).
Many supporters of Ebbers still questioned how much of a role he actually played in
masterminding the WorldCom scandal. The question still remains if greed was his motive, why
didn t Mr. Ebbers sell more stock? One explanation could be utilitarian based reasoning.
Utilitarianism, the consequentiality theory most widely accepted, and put forward by Jeremy
Bentham and, later, John Stuart Mill suggests that an action is right if it maximizes happiness for
the greatest number of people over the long term, given that everyone s happiness is of equal value
(Gold, 2008, para 8). Some say as WorldCom grew at a rapid pace, Mr. Ebbers set expectations
high. This led

Analysis Of The Perks Of Being A Wallflower
Although depression may seem like an endless burden to bear, those suffering from the mental
illness need to hold on to realize that they are not alone, and that depression does end. Through
the use of a range of film techniques employed throughout the final scene of the film, Stephen
Chbosky successfully weaves this idea into the closing sequence of The Perks of Being a
Wallflower. The comedy drama coming of age film reflects on the trials and tribulations of
adolescent life, as we join protagonist Charlie on his journey of development. As Charle is
introduced as a socially awkward wallflower suffering severely from depression, the film
techniques used during the ending scene show how Charlie has found his place in the world with

Dubbed by Sam as the Tunnel Song she loves to listen to while she cruises through the night, the
song Heroes by David Bowie further supports Chbosky s success in establishing a sense of hope
for the viewer. Charlie s non diegetic commentary stating this one moment when you know you
re not a sad story. You are alive. followed by the song s lyrics we can be heroes, just for one day,
support each other in emphasizing the idea of having those moments where you feel like
nothing else matters, and you can feel like you re a hero, just like how Charlie and his friends
are feeling on top of the world. The lyrics of the diegetic song which state though nothing, will
keep us together/we can steal time, just for one day, reflect on Charlie and Sam s relationship.
They realize that they will not be able to maintain a relationship since Sam lives away from
Charlie to go to college, but despite this, they have learned to enjoy the little time they have
together and make the most of it. Chbosky s use of diegetic music once again perfectly serve its
purpose of creating a sense of hope for the viewer, and illustrating the newfound lessons that the
viewer has learned with Charlie alongside his quest for maturity. He teaches the viewer that
depression will not always be continual darkness there will be moments where you

A Critical Analysis Of Into The Woods
Into the Woods is a famous musical. It premiered on Broadway in 1987 and has been performed
over 700 times before ending in 1989. The musical is a collection of fairytales from authors Jacob
and Wilhelm Grimm and Charles Perrault and put together in a story with music and lyrics written
by Stephen Sondheim and dialogue written by James Lapine. The musical incorporates characters
from fairytales such as Cinderella, Little Red Riding Hood, Jack and the Beanstalk and Rapunzel
and recreates their stories in one storyline. Into the Woodsfollows a baker and his wife who have a
desire to have children and start a family. They soon learn that their inability to have children is
a curse brought upon by a witch. Meanwhile, characters from different fairytales have other
personal goals they want to achieve as well. Through certain circumstances, each respective
character gets their wishes granted and lived happily ever after, only for consequences to occur
afterwards. The story is set in a setting similar to the Middle Ages, with kingdoms, farmers and a
world filled with magic. The story is another fairytale that brings a number of fairytales together
and brings in different worlds to merge into one to tell one unique story. One of the main themes
of Into the Woods is the idea of having a happy ending. After the protagonists go through a tough
journey, a sad beginning to a strange experience, a happy ending is often the best result. After

The Black Plague And World Trade Center
Introduction
Historical tragedies have shaped our society, behaviour, and relationships. Historical tragedies
are the reason we are where we are as a community and country today. They completely alter our
thinking and open us up to realizations we had not thought possible. For example, The
Holocaust, The Black Plague, and World War I to name a few. However, This is most evident in
the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks that happened in the United States of America. Due to
films being a representation of society itself, this tragedy has unsurprisingly had a profound
impact on the filmmaking industry. This event was the basis for numerous stereotypes, new
political themes, and racial discrimination that we see in films today. Surprisingly, there are not
many films based on this event however, as stated in the chapter, there were still some films made
based on this tragedy. Most notably, Paul Greengrass s United 93 which was released in 2006 and
Oliver Stone s World Trade Centerwhich was interestingly also released in 2006. Due to them
being released at the same time and the fact that these are 2 of the most prominent feature films
based on 9/11 has led scholars, critics, and others to compare and contrast both of them. Eleftheria
seeks to go against the norm and look at similarities between these two films instead of differences
and she wants to read these films next to each other and not against each other. Eleftheria argues
that these two cases offer a more nuanced

Essay on In Defense of Historical Fiction
The genre of historical fiction novels can be subdivided into many categories and often crosses
genres, such as historical mysteries and romances. The traditional definition of the historical
fiction genre is fiction set in the past where the author is writing from research rather than
personal experience. This definition leaves a lot of room for interpretation, controversy, and
contradiction. Critics in the media, even when they praise individual historical novels in their
reviews, somehow manage to turn this praise into criticism of the genre as a whole. In 1950,
author Howard Fast, a historical novelist himself, wrote: This is an era of many historical novels,
few of them good and very few indeed which have more than a nodding... Show more content on

The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn by Mark Twain is a classic example of a successful historical
fiction novel depicting the life and adventures of youthful boys in the Mississippi River town of
St. Petersburg, Missouri and various locations along the river through Arkansas. Readers of this
novel are confronted with difficult themes such as slavery and revolution in the south before the
Civil War. In chapter 6 of the novel we see Huck s father, Pap, confronted with a finely dressed
and educated free African American. As the man passes Pap states, There, now that s a
specimen. They call that a govment that can t sell a free nigger till he s been in the State six
months. Here s a govment that calls itself a govment, and lets on to be a govment, and thinks it
is a govment, and yet s got to set stock still for six whole months before it can take a hold of a
prowling, thieving, infernal, white shirted free nigger. (Twain 151). This little speech by Pap shows
that he s a blatant racist who treats African Americans as though they are not at all human beings.
This novel is full of authentic points of view from the various characters Huck encounters on his
adventures. Twain uses dialog such as this to educate readers about past conflicts such as the Civil
War and slavery. Although highly controversial, this novel has been used as an educational tool in
English literature classrooms for years. The point is there are numerous historical fiction

The Church s Role In Ancient Russian Society And Politics
The church s role in ancient Russian society and politics was also significant since it encountered a
semi pagan society with many barbarian practices and crude customs in the late tenth and early
eleventh centuries. These included a primitive form of marriage in which the wife was abducted or
purchased, polygamy, slavery, blood feuds and many other rituals society would deem cruel and
barbaric today. (131, Engelstein) While the church did not immediately eliminate ingrained habits
and prejudices, it gradually imparted new ideas and attitudes by educating people, changing morals,
and preparing the people to accept new standards. The church opposed barbaric customs such as
blood feuds and, together with secular leaders, attempted to formulate judicial norms and establish
appropriate punishments that fit the nature of and reasons for crimes. In these actions, the church
deeply penetrated the legal and moral foundations of society. This is another example of how the
Christianization of Russia started to shape politics and the culture of Russia specifically from some
of the earliest times of Russian society. (133, Engelstein)... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These church people were under the church s jurisdiction and direct control and included monks,

the church served as a social welfare organization for the weakest and least fortunate elements of
society who were threatened by death or slavery in these barbaric times. In this instance, the church
acted as guardian as well as the government. This is yet another example of the construction of
influence the church had in shaping Russian culture and government. (134,

What Is Self Confidence Is Belief Within Oneself And...
What is self confidence, self confidence is belief in oneself and in one s powers and abilities.
(Merriam Webster) Most people will tell you that no one can change the way they view themselves,
and that their self confidence is high. Most of those people have not experienced someone close to
them or significant speaking or treating them negatively and making them feel less than or unsure
of themselves. Usually the person that can make you feel the most selfconscious are those that are
close to you, but others are more than capable to doing so as well. Those people will say and do
little subtle things that will make you second guess your abilities or how you look or carry
yourself. Sometimes it is just one comment or a series of comments that lead up to the feelings
up uncertainty and extreme self consciousness of the things that would once go unnoticed. The
comments start off small, and you try to ignore them, or people may act a certain way towards
you to make you feel uncomfortable. The worst experience I have ever had is when I was met
with the negative opinions of someone I was madly in love with. Just because they say that they
love you does not mean that they will not say or do things that will hurt you or make you feel self
conscious. At times this can be due to jealousy or wanting to keep you feeling bad to make
themselves feel better about themselves.

Ivanhoe
In everybody s life there is something that makes him strive for success. That something can be
money, women, fame, or many other incentives.. To the medieval knights, victory renown and
glory are the ambitions they strive for. Breaking a law in this code would be considered a
disgrace, and would bring a dishonor that was worse than death itself. However, by applying the
Code of Chivalry, the knights in the medieval time displayed certain character traits which would
secure success and honor in both battle and morality. In the book Ivanhoe, by Sir Walter Scott, a
knight named Ivanhoe illustrates this by devoting his attention to keeping the rules of the Code of

If his home country of England is to lose the battles, he and his country would be disgraced. His
fear of disgrace helps lead him on. Having a fear of disgrace shows the reader that having this
motive can lead one on to success. br br People can learn a lesson not only about glory, but of
bravery also. Besides glory, bravery is used throughout the novel also. An example of this is
when Sir Brian de Bois Guilbert dies for Rebecca. Ivanhoe demonstrates bravery when he fights
Brian to repay Rebecca for her care when he is hurt. He is also very brave when he fights for his
Saxon image. Even though he is not a major character in this book, Robin Hood also shows
bravery. He robs from the rich and gives to the poor which breaks certain parts in the Code of
Chivalry. Through his actions, he fulfills part of the Code. He is brave and has a love of
adventure in doing so, but his integrity and respect to the king is taken by his criminal actions.
People can learn from these examples that sometimes being brave is not pretty. Both Sir Brian
de Bois Guilbert and Robin Hood had to suffer consequences for being brave. br br Bravery is very
important to knights. If they are not brave they are disgraced, which is something they fear the
most. Ivanhoe s motto is Death is better than defeat, this shows his fear of disgrace. Likewise, in

Perspective Changes with Age
As a person ages, their perspective on life changes. A person eventually develops the ability to
analyze, understand the importance of lack thereof of things, and not take offense at all the little
things in life. Your perspective also changes through the dropping of preconceived ideas and by
experiencing new situations.
As you age, your ability to analyze a particular situation develops drastically. When you are young,
you think that there is one plain cut, simple, black and white answer, but as you get older you realize
there are many sides to almost everything. Eventually, people realize that there can be a yes and a
no answer to questions and that more than one person can be right in an argument.
As you get older, you begin to understand the importance or lack thereof of things. When you are
an adolescent, you blow things way out of proportion. Kids act as though not being invited to the
most recent birthday party is the most important thing. When you are older you realize that it is
more important to be financially secure, have a home and be safe. You also realize that you don t
need the latest model of the iPhone, or other technological device as long as the necessary items
you have work. As you become an adult, you begin to understand that we do not need to take
offense at all the small things in life. A person begins to understand that one person s negative
comment towards them is not all that detrimental to them on a large scale. If someone says that your

necessary. I have heard it said many times that perfect practice makes perfect . I find this to be
very true. In my training I find that if I often slow down and do the maneuver the correct way than

The Well of Despair
Harry Harlow conducted experiments on rhesus monkeys to research the nature of maternal love (
Harry Harlow, 2017). He used maternal deprivation and social isolation experiments to do so. The
first experiment he conducted was to find out what kind of maternal care the monkeys needed to be
normal; Harlow raised the infant monkeys with artificial mothers to see how different types of
mothers would affect the monkeys growth and reaction. He used a variety of mothers to research
the different preferences, and he thought that the ideal mother was a mother, soft, warm, and
tender, a mother with infinite patience, a mother available 24 hours a day (Slater, 2008, n.pag.).
He used two mothers in this experiment: one was made out of terrycloth and the other one was
made out of wire ( Harry Harlow, 2017). The wire mother provided the monkeys with the materials
the babies needed to survive, like milk and food. On ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He used equipment like the rape rack, iron maidens, and the well of despair which caused
emotional trauma to the infants ( Harry Harlow, 2017). Rape rack was a forced mating device;
the mothers who had their baby using this device were abusive to their children. These mothers
were unable to form any kind of bond to their children because they were deprived of that
themselves. Iron maidens were the surrogate mothers that tormented the monkeys by shooting
sharp spikes, and cold air that was so forceful that the monkeys were thrown across the cages,
clinging and screaming (Slater, 2004). Lastly, well of despair was where the monkeys were left
in dark chambers for up to a year ( Harry Harlow, 2017). The infants that were left in isolation
were very disturbed. Harlow tried very hard to reverse the depression using multiple kinds of
therapy, but they all failed to

The Quarrel Between Poetry And Philosophy In Republic
The Quarrel Between Poetry and Philosophy in Republic
Abstract: Plato sternly expels poets and their poems when creating his ideal land in Republic. And
Starting from Plato, the quarrel between poetry and philosophy has been through almost the entire
history of western thoughts. By combing the viewpoints of Socrates, the protagonist of Plato s
Republic, this paper will analyze why classical philosophers side against traditional poets and
discover Plato s real purpose of such a deportation. The discussion of philosophy s homology with
poetry will also be included.

Sport Trust, a governing body working for the development of sport for children between the age

On the Island at present the MSR have provided all primary schools with only two of these
programmes. The Top Play and the Top Sport. These two programmes, yet very helpful in the
development of the children, don t give a spread of equality. As on the Island there are some

Relationship Between The Federal Government And The States
The relationship between the Federal government and the states is well stable. The Federal
government has powers given by the Constitution as well powers or privileges are given to the
states which promotes a balance between the two so that our country is not ruled under one
specific party or group. The question now is that, are the states rights more than well protected
in the current constitution and the political practice. The Constitution is the structure of a
political system. It establishes governmental bodies, grants powers, determines how to select
members and impose rules by which they make the decisions. Therefore, the Constitution can t
be changed by ordinary acts of governmental bodies. Along with the Constitution we have the
Articles of Confederation. Under these Articles congress was a single house where each state
had 2 to 7 members but only one vote. They selected executive judges and military officers as
well as having power to make war and peace and conduct foreign affairs. The ability to have
money Congress could borrow and print money, but they could not collect taxes or enforce laws,
precisely it had to rely on the states to provide and enforce. Articles of Confederation was written
to be a framework for the government of the United States, it established a firm league of
friendship among the states rather than a government of the people. (book) This Virginia plan

Animals Condition To The Environment
Different types of animals are adapted to the environment. It explains why people need to use
furnaces, heated blankets, and other devices to survive the freezing cold winter, animals live
through the four seasons especially winter even if the temperature is several degrees below zero.
Mike Konrath, the director of Sagawau Environmental Learning Center in Lemont, explained that
animals have lived in the harsh environment for thousands of years. But Konrath acknowledges
that some birds die, particularly when the barometer dips below zero like what happened on

on the ground, a lot of the natural food is covered. Fish Cold blooded fish beat the birds when it
comes to surviving the cold. The marine creatures can survive in water even if the temperature
goes down to 37 or 38 degrees, Konrath said, The Chicago Tribune reported. The fish does not
bulk up throughout winter but instead slow things down by eating only when it can. The fish can
adjust to the temperature around them, Konrath said. Half of the sunlight that gets into the water
is removed every time an inch of snow covers a lake. It cuts down the amount of photosynthesis
by algae which make oxygen levels lower. Frogs and turtles, meanwhile, hibernate by burying
themselves in the mud and not doing anything during winter. But in the case of the tree frog, the
creature has an antifreeze property in its blood which keeps the frog s cells from getting damaged,
allowing the animal to survive regardless of how cold the weather is. Constant feeding of mammals
Among mammals, especially the shrew which is the smallest mammal in North America, it has the
toughest time during winter. Due to its small body size, there is no way the animal can store fat so
it has to feed constantly throughout the day and night or it will die because of its very high
metabolism. Konrath said that rabbits burrow during winter under the snow where it stays a lot

Frye (2014) points out that the root of the word oppression is press , meaning to mold, to

Oppression, just a Frye explains, is to restrict natural rights and movement in society. These
restrictions and pressure greatly affect how the oppressed view themselves and, from a young
age, can create low self esteem and a hopeless feeling. In the film, A Girl Like Me , young African
American women speak about how society s oppression has affected them and their friends. For

Analysis Of Umurao Jan
The movie Umrao Jan was directed by Muzaffar Ali in 1981 and is a social drama (Muslim
social) and classic film. The film featured Rekha (played as Umrao Jan), Farooq Shaikh (played
as Nawab Sultan), Naseeruddin Shah (played as Gohar Mirza) and Raj Babbar (played as Faiz
Ali) in the lead roles while Gajanan Jagirdar (as Maulvi) who plays a supporting role. The story
of the movie is about a Lucknow courtesan (tawaif) and her growth in popularity. During 1840, a
girl called Amiran who is kidnapped from her home in Faizabad and sold her in Lucknow. Later,
Amiran turned into Umrao Jan and prepared to attract men of wealth and flavor of some quality.
Then, Umrao Jan falls in love with Nawab Sultan, who is a high status person in society, but
their love breaks up due to the family concern. Finally, she saw her mother in her birthplace, but
her brother didn t accept his sister as a courtesan so he told her to leave this place and never
come back. Then, she went back where she grew up as a courtesan (tawaif) at Mehfil. The
Umrao Jan s role is comparably higher in the film and she glows up the screen, complying
maturely with her character. Her acting skills touch the audiences with the natural sense of
emotions such as her sadness in her eyes and suffering on her face took next level to the movie.
Muzaffar Ali used a variety of songs in his movie which included Ghazals, sad (songs of Pathos),

instruments, Khayyam scored the background music to represent a situation well and smoothly

Pros And Cons Of The 18th Amendment
The 18th amendment, or the prohibition law was a good and a bad thing for America in many
ways. Prohibition was enacted to stop the derotation and violence of men against their wife and

in America which is why the 18th amendment was enacted to try to eliminate and dangers of

Rationalist vs. Behavioralist Paradigms
What are the two business paradigms? Within the business disciplines, we are fortunate to have two
major paradigms (schools of thought): rationalist and behavioralist. An ideological/theoretical
conflict has existed between the two paradigms for over 50 years. Is human decision behavior
more consistent with the rationalist models or behavioralist models? Behavioral finance has grown
out of this conflict and will likely result in the resolution of the conflict as time passes.
What is a paradigm? Thomas Kuhn s concept of paradigm is useful background for the debate
between rationalists and behavioralists over decision making. His book The Structure of Scientific
Revolutions is the premier philosophy of science work written ... Show more content on

Since no paradigm ever solves all the problems it defines and since no two paradigms leave all the
same problems unsolved, paradigm debates always involve the question: Which problem is it more
significant to have solved? Like the issue of competing standards, the question of values can only
be answered in terms of criteria that lie outside of normal science altogether, and it is that recourse
to external criteria that most obviously makes paradigm debates revolutionary. If many revolutions
have shaken the very foundations of various fields, then why are we as lay people unaware of it?
Textbooks. Textbooks are teaching vehicles for the perpetuation of normal science and have to be
rewritten whenever the language, problem structure, or standards of normal science change. They
have to be rewritten in the aftermath of each scientific revolution, and, once rewritten, they
inevitably disguise not only the role but the very existence of the revolutions that produced them.
Textbooks truncate the scientist s sense of the discipline s history and then proceed to supply a
substitute for what they have eliminated. This textbook derived tradition never existed. And once
the textbooks are rewritten, science again comes to seem largely cumulative and linear.
What is the rationalist paradigm? The rationalist paradigm (e.g., microeconomics and finance) is
focused upon the structure and processes of markets. The market is seen as dominating other

of sustained phonation and fundamental frequency range (Wenke et al., 2008). LSVT has also
shown an increase in loudness that is associated with greater inspiratory lung volumes in normal
speakers and increased adduction of the vocal folds in individuals with respiratory phonatory
function in individuals with non progressive dysarthria (Wenke et al., 2008). Research has
identified that generalization of improving loudness may also improve non verbal behaviors of
orofacial muscles that are used for articulation and swallowing (Spielman et al.,

Why Are Heroes Bad
The tendency for us to want of need heroes and villains impacts us dramatically in a number of
ways. Firstly, the heroes that we have, especially as children, do affect us dramatically in our
behaviour towards others and views on ourselves. One of the major problems with this is that we
don t choose the right people to idolised a lot of the time, which in turn reflects on our societal
values needing to be deeply questioned. Take a sports star, for example. A huge number of children
will grow up having a sports star or stars affecting their attitudes and values. These athletes can no
doubt have some very positive impacts, as many of them come from poverty or tough
circumstances. It s these athletes that give children in similar situations hope.... Show more content

The way our heroes and idols act has a strong influence on how we behave as well. This can be
seen in many circumstances with the most obvious being celebrities setting trends. The caricatures
we create can also be very harmful to ourselves. Another example of negative role models is kids
growing up in a ghetto often idolise local gang members. This tends to lead to those same kids
replicating gang member behaviour, murdering, stealing and raping. The end result is some of
these kids either in jail or dead. This is a huge problem in our society. We valuepeople with self
centered and lack of empathy not because we value these qualities within the person, but we look
up to the people that are revolting against the systems and cycles of poverty and pain that we are
trapped in. Young children in impoverished areas look up to gang members because they see that
even though they started from nothing, as they did, they became part of something that stands
up to the idea that all they will ever be is at the bottom of the food chain, picking up the scraps
others have left behind. For this reason, it s easy to see why these common thugs are idolised,
they have respect and this is something that every person wants, especially people that aren t
given any. However, it does not do us any good to look up to people that slip through the cracks of
the system, but rather we should try to change the system so this build up of resentment between
different facets of society does not

Domestic Violence Diary
On 01 01 2016(Friday) at approximately 2014 hours I Officer Hildebrand and Officer Andrew
Emanuel was dispatched to a domestic violence call at 422 N Yellowstone apt. 7. While enroute
I was informed by dispatch that a weapon is involved. I arrived on scene shortly after. I arrived
upstairs when I was directed inside the apartment. I saw a tall male in a white shirt holding a
firearm. I directed the male (later identified as Neil Weekly (property manager)) to drop the
weapon. Neil handed me the firearm. I secured the weapon from Neil. Neil stated they were
fighting and he came in to the apartment to see Clarence Morris with a gun. Neil stated that the
female was in the room. I heard a female yelling and sobbing from the bedroom. I went into... Show

him about three times to get Clarence off of her. Clarence had grabbed her sweatshirt and ripped
it open from collar to waist. I noticed red marks and bruises on her neck. Catherine stated that
Clarence then got up off of her and grabbed the firearm and threatened to kill himself. Catherine

Dishonest In The Workplace At Panera Bread
In today s society, people can be dishonest and cheat their way through life. Working in
anywhere, your bosses and coworkers have to gain your trust. For over a year now, I work at
Panera Bread. We are always hiring new staff throughout spring and summer. People come and
go for stealing food or not treating customers with respect. Until recently, one of my managers
experienced embezzlement. My manager is sending her child off to college and taking care of
the rest of her family, which is a big expense. Someone apart of our staff stole three hundred
dollars from her purse. She lost her whole paycheck that she had earned. Everyone was not sure
who to trust or rely on anymore. No one was honest and confessed they did it. I doubted the integrity

Essay On Extreme Learning Machine
Extreme learning machine proposed bycite{elm, elms} is a feed forward neural network classifier
with single hidden layer in which the weights between input and hidden layer are initialized
randomly. ELM uses analytical approach to compute weights between hidden and output
layercite{elm} ,which makes it faster compared to other gradient based classifiers. ELM fails to
handle class imbalance problem effectively. Many variants of Extreme Learning Machine like

The proposed WLEM is evaluated using the two weighting schemes which assigns classwise
weights to the instances. The performance of WELM is dependent on the choice of these weights.
The weighing schemes proposed only considers class skewness for assigning weights to the
instances. It ignores other data complexity measures as class overlapping, shape of the class, length
of decision boundary, class distribution etc. for computing the weights associated with the
instances. Assigning weights to the instances is a difficult task as we don t know that the factors
responsible for data complexity is different for different datasets.
Boosted WELM (WBELM)cite{BWELM} is a variant of adaboostcite{Schapire1999} ensemble
with WELMcite{WELM} as the component classifier. It differs from adaboost as equal weight is
assigned to all the classes irrespective of the number of instances in that class. After each iteration
the weights of the instances belonging to each class are rescaled such that total weight assigned to
each class is same.it has been reported in this papercite{BWELM} , that Boosting weighted ELM
and AdaBoost weighted ELM take about 10 and 50 times more training and testing time than
weighted ELM. It enhances the performance of WELM at the cost of increases redundancy and
computational overhead.

Reflective Log # 2 MULTICULTURE is a new word to me as I never came across with different
culture or group of people in past. This course provide me a framework to improve and practice the
mastery skills required to successfully manage or work in a multicultural workplace in any
international settings. Through this course setting, I came to know about how to manage myself in
multicultural environment and deal with different people of different cultures.
The three things which I especially learn from this course are as follows: Cultural Adaptation: what
I learned about the cultural adaptation is process and time it takes a person to embrace a new culture

In my own words, Cultural Intelligence is a person own ability to understand and apply the
beliefs, values, attitudes and behavior of new cultural settings to accomplish a specific goal. for
example: when I came to Canada for study, that time I learn lots of thing which are common in
Canadian culture but not in our culture, so then I realize the importance of culture intelligence ,
by which I can understand these changes between two cultures, it takes time to proper
understanding of all the difference but I managed these things as a part of life and see these
things as global mind set, evaluating the differences and made judgement of all of these on my
prospective and mix up with the situation for gaining more knowledge about this. This is what I
did when I first came to Canada and this is how I am aware of Cultural intelligence even though I
practiced earlier. One thing I learn through this course is that to expand your business overseas,
culture intelligence is vital. If you want to run your business today, you need to own CQ, because

Why Did Crispin Run
What would you do if a fierce tyrant came at you swinging his sword savagely? When Crispin s
mother died, he and the priest quietly held a funeral for her.at the funeral John Aycliffe, the
steward, demanded Crispin s ox as a death tax, as a way to cope with all of the sadness in his life
he ran into the forest. He was eavesdropping on a conversation in the forest between a mysterious
figure and John aycliffe when they spotted him John aycliffe hastily drew his sword to smite
Crispin but he missed and only succeeded in setting Crispin free from the brambles which
entangled him. Everyone knows that after being set free Crispin s best interests would be to
escape but some people think that he still should not have ran, while others believe that Crispin
should have turned tail and gotten out of that horrible place. I know as a fact that Crispin should
have run from John aycliffe and I have collected three reasons... Show more content on

from John aycliffe. For my final reason why Crispin should have run from John aycliffe is that
he had absolutely no reason not to run from John. His life was horrible even before his mother
died and after she died the mistreatment escalated exponentially. He had no family that he could
have gone to live with, so when he ran he would have been all on his own. After his mother died
he had to pay for her death with their ox, which meant that he had no means of supporting himself,

The Impact Of Privacy On The Internet
As technology continues to advance, the world continues to shrink. Information can be easily
obtained with a click of a mouse. Since this information is keystrokes away, how can individuals or
businesses monitor this public information on the Internet? Can this accessible information violate
an individual s privacy? First, the word privacy is defined in numerous ways from an individual or
business perspective. Based on these different views of privacy, this can impact operations or
people s life.
The definition of privacy for a business is to collect information about its customers, but respect
the customer s privacy. Businesses took the concern of individual s privacy a long time ago, and
created a section of the business for privacy ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
According to McCreary, that growth rate reflects more than just a greater appreciation of privacy
protection as a business responsibility (McCreary pg.5, 2008). The rise of these executive positions
and organizations is due to privacy regulations that impact businesses.
With privacy laws, businesses can collect people s personal information, analyze it, but the
business has to be within reason. Before these privacy laws, business were able to collect all the
information that the company can access and use that information to their advantage. If the
information leaked out or was stolen, the business did not have to disclose the issue with the
public or even the company s customers. Now, businesses have to release to the public on any
breaches of security such as their privacy. When California passed legislation in 2003, companies
were obligated to alert them to a breach at the earliest reasonable moment after it was discovered
(McCreary pg.6, 2008). After this regulation was passed, other states began to adopt their own
mandates of security to protect individual s privacy.
Ultimately, this changed how business analyzed their risk equation. Businesses would have to face
the consequences when information is breached, and the reputation from its customers. Enterprises
are trying to be proactive when collecting, storing and protecting an individual s data. A privacy
checklist for a business

Reptiles For Beginners Research Paper
Three Things to Understand About Reptiles as Pets for Beginners If you have have been thinking
about getting a reptile as a pet for the first time, there are a few things you need to know before
you make a purchase. Reptiles are much different than a dog or cat that you may have had in the
past. The following are three things to understand about reptiles as pets. Their natural environment
is much different than ours Dogs and cats can adapt quite nicely to the temperatures that we enjoy.
But reptiles are cold blooded animals and need the sun to heat up their body temperature. This
usually means a heating lamp or other device to keep their enclosure warm. With some reptiles,
there may be humidity requirements as well. In short, there is a

The Patriot And Avenger Weapons Systems
Military forces deploy to vastly different environments across the globe. However, two of the most
important discriminating factors which shape how operations are conducted are acceptance and
protection of US forces by the local population. Operational environments are roughly sorted into
two major categories. Permissive environments are locations where the host nation has control of its
territory and supports US operations. Non permissive environments refer to locations with hostile
or uncertain local response. Although the weapons systems and sensors do not change from one
location to the next, the environment surrounding a deployed Air Defense unit has a significant
impact on how it is best operated. The Patriot and Avenger weapons systems clearly demonstrate the
disparate considerations that must be taken for implementation of each asset when employed in a
permissive and non permissive environment respectively.
Employment and Operations of the Patriot Missile System are dramatically impacted by its host
environment. When the a unit is deployed to a permissive environment, treaties and political
agreements often restrict exactly where the Patriot battery can be emplaced and what assets it will
cover. In a non permissive environment, the Patriot unit can position itself in the optimal position
as long as it is adequately defensible and nests within the higher commander s plan. A second
major difference for employment is mobility. It is typical for Patriot to be

Disparity In Healthcare
As an oncologist at Grady Memorial, an inner city hospital located in Atlanta, Dr. Brawley
witnesses the disastrous effects of healthcare disparity first hand. Healthcare disparities are vast
differences in quality and access to care between socioeconomic classes. health care disparities
refer to differences in health and health care between population groups. Disparities occur across
many dimensions, including race, ethnicity, socioeconomic status, age, location, gender, disability
status, and sexual orientation (KFF, 2016). As Brawley describes to us, Grady is a hospital that
demonstrates health disparity at its worst. Brawley describes Grady as a monument to racism,
Racism is built into it, as is poverty, as is despair. (Brawley, 2011).

Psychology Of Groups
The thought of sitting in a room filled with people who have similar interests and enjoy each other
s company seems a lot better than being alone, and not being included in the cluster of people.
There are many reasons why people may want to join groups and Bill Wasik, who writes
My Crowd Experiment: The Mob Experiment talks about some of the reasons why it seems
interesting to join one. People may want to join groups because they will not be bored, it can allow
someone to accomplish many things and feel good, and they can gain friends.
By joining a group, people can reduce the chances of being bored. It allows them to engage in
activities they like or even have new experiences. Wasik talks about how he started the Mob
Project because I ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Joining a group can also provide people with feelings of accomplishments. In an online article by
Lee Rainie, Kristen Purcell, and Aaron Smith, they state how people consider joining a group
weather the individual thinks the group can accomplish its goals (63% say that this is very
important in their decision) (Joining, participating in and leaving groups). People tend to enjoy
being a part of a successful project and it makes them feel good when a goal is achieved.
They also may join to show off accomplishments they may have made and to feel they feel they
have a purpose in doing something to benefit others. Wasik talks about how 200 people came
together to do a flash mob at a hotel and After five minutes of staring, the ring erupted

  • 2. Essay about The Extent to Which Tudor Rebellions Have... The Extent to Which Tudor Rebellions Have Similar Causes Tudor rebellions were caused by one or more of the following factors: dynastic, political, religious, and social and economic. There was an element of both similarity and continuity in the period as most of the rebellions were politically motivated starting with Warbeck s rebellion in 1491 until the end of the period with Essex s rebellion in 1601. This displays clear political motives across the period. During the reign of Henry VII, many of the rebellions were dynastically motivated with a series of challenges from pretenders to the throne, Simnel and Warbeck and rebellions due to heavy taxation; Yorkshire and Cornish anti tax riots.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Nevertheless, dynasty was still a cause of Tudor rebellions but was replaced by succession especially as Henry VIII did not have an heir and he himself did not have a legitimate claim to the throne. This occurred with the political coup of Lady Jane Grey in 1553 and Wyatt s rebellion in 1554 because of Henry VIII s reinstatement of both Mary and Elizabeth who had both been previously removed from succession. The treason acts help to reduce rebellion as it became easier to convict people of treason but by the end of the period the Tudor dynasty itself was far more secure meaning that Wyatt never made public his desire to overthrow Mary as the Tudor regime was now accepted. Politically motivated rebellions always involved faction. Simnel and Warbeck s rebellion were both politically motivated due to Yorkist and Lancastrian faction. Faction was of low importance in Henry VII s reign as Henry Tudor limited it by control of patronage unlike both Elizabeth and Henry VIII who advocated it. They had a divide and rule policy. The most common theme that ran throughout all the politically motivated rebellions was resentment of lowborn ministers, for example, Wolsey in 1525, Cromwell in 1556 and Essex in 1601 wanted to rid parliament of Cecil the ... Do you think the United States is currently an imperialist country? Why or why not? No I do not think the United States is an imperialist Country. We do not try or even want to take over any other countries. We want to buy their products instead, and sell our products to them. Also when the United States attacks another country it is out of defense, we only support wars that are in self defense. During WWI we took no possessions as our own, and prevented others from doing this. During WWII we helped to rebuild Japan and Germany instead of taking control, and returned full power to the Filipino Government. In the Korea and Vietnam War we came to the aide of both countries. • 6. Essay on Worldcom Fraud Abstract On March 15, 2005 former CEO of WorldCom, Bernard Ebbers sat in a federal courtroom waiting for the verdict. As the former CEO of WorldCom, Ebbers was accused of being personally responsible for the financial destruction of the communications giant. An internal investigation had uncovered $11 billion dollars in fraudulent accounting practices. Later a second report in 2003 found that during Ebber s 2001 tenure as CEO, the company had over reported earnings and understated expenses by an astonishing $74.5 billion dollars (Martin, 2005, para 3). This report included the mismanagement of funds, unethical lending practices among its top executives, and false bookkeeping which led to loss of tens of thousands of its employees. ... He was sentenced to 25 years in prison. Many critics felt that the sentence was too harsh and others not harsh enough. The sentencing of Ebbers did not change the situation of the shareholders and employees who lost more than $100 billion in stock value, 17,000 jobs and their entire retirement savings. Ebbers was allowed to keep one of his homes, $50,000 in cash and a retirement account (Ernst Young, 2005, para 6). Many supporters of Ebbers still questioned how much of a role he actually played in masterminding the WorldCom scandal. The question still remains if greed was his motive, why didn t Mr. Ebbers sell more stock? One explanation could be utilitarian based reasoning. Utilitarianism, the consequentiality theory most widely accepted, and put forward by Jeremy Bentham and, later, John Stuart Mill suggests that an action is right if it maximizes happiness for the greatest number of people over the long term, given that everyone s happiness is of equal value (Gold, 2008, para 8). Analysis Of The Perks Of Being A Wallflower Although depression may seem like an endless burden to bear, those suffering from the mental illness need to hold on to realize that they are not alone, and that depression does end. Through the use of a range of film techniques employed throughout the final scene of the film, Stephen Chbosky successfully weaves this idea into the closing sequence of The Perks of Being a Wallflower. • 12. A Critical Analysis Of Into The Woods Into the Woods is a famous musical. It premiered on Broadway in 1987 and has been performed over 700 times before ending in 1989. The musical is a collection of fairytales from authors Jacob and Wilhelm Grimm and Charles Perrault and put together in a story with music and lyrics written by Stephen Sondheim and dialogue written by James Lapine. The musical incorporates characters from fairytales such as Cinderella, Little Red Riding Hood, Jack and the Beanstalk and Rapunzel and recreates their stories in one storyline. Into the Woodsfollows a baker and his wife who have a desire to have children and start a family. They soon learn that their inability to have children is a curse brought upon by a witch. Meanwhile, characters from different fairytales have other personal goals they want to achieve as well. Through certain circumstances, each respective character gets their wishes granted and lived happily ever after, only for consequences to occur afterwards. The story is set in a setting similar to the Middle Ages, with kingdoms, farmers and a world filled with magic. The story is another fairytale that brings a number of fairytales together and brings in different worlds to merge into one to tell one unique story. One of the main themes of Into the Woods is the idea of having a happy ending. After the protagonists go through a tough journey, a sad beginning to a strange experience, a happy ending is often the best result. After finding the answers one is looking for, ... • 13. The Black Plague And World Trade Center Introduction Historical tragedies have shaped our society, behaviour, and relationships. Historical tragedies are the reason we are where we are as a community and country today. They completely alter our thinking and open us up to realizations we had not thought possible. For example, The Holocaust, The Black Plague, and World War I to name a few. However, This is most evident in the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks that happened in the United States of America. Due to films being a representation of society itself, this tragedy has unsurprisingly had a profound impact on the filmmaking industry. This event was the basis for numerous stereotypes, new political themes, and racial discrimination that we see in films today. Surprisingly, there are not many films based on this event however, as stated in the chapter, there were still some films made based on this tragedy. Most notably, Paul Greengrass s United 93 which was released in 2006 and Oliver Stone s World Trade Centerwhich was interestingly also released in 2006. Due to them being released at the same time and the fact that these are 2 of the most prominent feature films based on 9/11 has led scholars, critics, and others to compare and contrast both of them. Eleftheria seeks to go against the norm and look at similarities between these two films instead of differences and she wants to read these films next to each other and not against each other. • 14. Essay on In Defense of Historical Fiction The genre of historical fiction novels can be subdivided into many categories and often crosses genres, such as historical mysteries and romances. The traditional definition of the historical fiction genre is fiction set in the past where the author is writing from research rather than personal experience. This definition leaves a lot of room for interpretation, controversy, and contradiction. Critics in the media, even when they praise individual historical novels in their reviews, somehow manage to turn this praise into criticism of the genre as a whole. In 1950, author Howard Fast, a historical novelist himself, wrote: This is an era of many historical novels, few of them good and very few indeed which have more than a nodding... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn by Mark Twain is a classic example of a successful historical fiction novel depicting the life and adventures of youthful boys in the Mississippi River town of St. Petersburg, Missouri and various locations along the river through Arkansas. Readers of this novel are confronted with difficult themes such as slavery and revolution in the south before the Civil War. In chapter 6 of the novel we see Huck s father, Pap, confronted with a finely dressed and educated free African American. As the man passes Pap states, There, now that s a specimen. They call that a govment that can t sell a free nigger till he s been in the State six months. Here s a govment that calls itself a govment, and lets on to be a govment, and thinks it is a govment, and yet s got to set stock still for six whole months before it can take a hold of a prowling, thieving, infernal, white shirted free nigger. (Twain 151). This little speech by Pap shows that he s a blatant racist who treats African Americans as though they are not at all human beings. This novel is full of authentic points of view from the various characters Huck encounters on his adventures. Twain uses dialog such as this to educate readers about past conflicts such as the Civil War and slavery. Although highly controversial, this novel has been used as an educational tool in English literature classrooms for years. The point is there are numerous historical fiction ... • 16. The Church s Role In Ancient Russian Society And Politics The church s role in ancient Russian society and politics was also significant since it encountered a semi pagan society with many barbarian practices and crude customs in the late tenth and early eleventh centuries. These included a primitive form of marriage in which the wife was abducted or purchased, polygamy, slavery, blood feuds and many other rituals society would deem cruel and barbaric today. (131, Engelstein) While the church did not immediately eliminate ingrained habits and prejudices, it gradually imparted new ideas and attitudes by educating people, changing morals, and preparing the people to accept new standards. The church opposed barbaric customs such as blood feuds and, together with secular leaders, attempted to formulate judicial norms and establish appropriate punishments that fit the nature of and reasons for crimes. In these actions, the church deeply penetrated the legal and moral foundations of society. This is another example of how the Christianization of Russia started to shape politics and the culture of Russia specifically from some of the earliest times of Russian society. (133, Engelstein)... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... These church people were under the church s jurisdiction and direct control and included monks, the clergy, church employees and their families, among others. • 17. What Is Self Confidence Is Belief Within Oneself And... What is self confidence, self confidence is belief in oneself and in one s powers and abilities. (Merriam Webster) Most people will tell you that no one can change the way they view themselves, and that their self confidence is high. Most of those people have not experienced someone close to them or significant speaking or treating them negatively and making them feel less than or unsure of themselves. Usually the person that can make you feel the most selfconscious are those that are close to you, but others are more than capable to doing so as well. Those people will say and do little subtle things that will make you second guess your abilities or how you look or carry yourself. Sometimes it is just one comment or a series of comments that lead up to the feelings up uncertainty and extreme self consciousness of the things that would once go unnoticed. The comments start off small, and you try to ignore them, or people may act a certain way towards you to make you feel uncomfortable. The worst experience I have ever had is when I was met with the negative opinions of someone I was madly in love with. Just because they say that they love you does not mean that they will not say or do things that will hurt you or make you feel self conscious. At times this can be due to jealousy or wanting to keep you feeling bad to make themselves feel better about themselves. At the age of eighteen I was just beginning my life, at the time I decided to put off college and go straight ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

To the medieval knights, victory renown and glory are the ambitions they strive for. Breaking a law in this code would be considered a disgrace, and would bring a dishonor that was worse than death itself. However, by applying the Code of Chivalry, the knights in the medieval time displayed certain character traits which would secure success and honor in both battle and morality. In the book Ivanhoe, by Sir Walter Scott, a knight named Ivanhoe illustrates this by devoting his attention to keeping the rules of the Code of Chivalry, which consisted of love of adventure, integrity, and loyalty to the... Having a fear of disgrace shows the reader that having this motive can lead one on to success. br br People can learn a lesson not only about glory, but of bravery also. Besides glory, bravery is used throughout the novel also. An example of this is when Sir Brian de Bois Guilbert dies for Rebecca. Ivanhoe demonstrates bravery when he fights Brian to repay Rebecca for her care when he is hurt. He is also very brave when he fights for his Saxon image. Even though he is not a major character in this book, Robin Hood also shows bravery. He robs from the rich and gives to the poor which breaks certain parts in the Code of Chivalry. Through his actions, he fulfills part of the Code. He is brave and has a love of adventure in doing so, but his integrity and respect to the king is taken by his criminal actions. If many revolutions have shaken the very foundations of various fields, then why are we as lay people unaware of it? Textbooks. Within minutes of the plea deal being announced, several news organizations reported that Kushner was the one directing Flynn s communications, which Flynn then lied about to the FBI (Abramson). Abramson then later starts writing about how Kushner s recent behavior of being seen less by the public (Parker). Abramson questions why and what he s doing in secret. She does this to arouse the public s curiosity since she does have valid questions that others may formulate. In addition to this, the writer also brings up facts about Kushner to make him look bad. In the past, Jared Kushner had tried to set backchannels and communicate with russians even before they were admitted to office (Abramson). He then later denies this story completely. LSVT Research Paper Lee Silverman Voice Treatment (LSVT) There are many treatment methods that are used to target increasing vocal loudness and amplitude, particularly in individuals with Parkinson s Disease. The Lee Silverman Voice Treatment (LSVT) is an intensive, 1 month speech therapy regimen that trains dysarthric individuals with Parkinson s Disease to speak in a louder voice while self monitoring the effort it takes to produce such a voice (Sapir, Spielman, Ramig, Story, Fox, 2007). The treatment focus is to improve the individual s voice quality and vocal function. • 40. Why Are Heroes Bad The tendency for us to want of need heroes and villains impacts us dramatically in a number of ways. Firstly, the heroes that we have, especially as children, do affect us dramatically in our behaviour towards others and views on ourselves. One of the major problems with this is that we don t choose the right people to idolised a lot of the time, which in turn reflects on our societal values needing to be deeply questioned. Take a sports star, for example. A huge number of children will grow up having a sports star or stars affecting their attitudes and values. These athletes can no doubt have some very positive impacts, as many of them come from poverty or tough circumstances. It s these athletes that give children in similar situations hope.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The way our heroes and idols act has a strong influence on how we behave as well. This can be seen in many circumstances with the most obvious being celebrities setting trends. The caricatures we create can also be very harmful to ourselves. Another example of negative role models is kids growing up in a ghetto often idolise local gang members. This tends to lead to those same kids replicating gang member behaviour, murdering, stealing and raping. The end result is some of these kids either in jail or dead. This is a huge problem in our society. We valuepeople with self centered and lack of empathy not because we value these qualities within the person, but we look up to the people that are revolting against the systems and cycles of poverty and pain that we are trapped in. Young children in impoverished areas look up to gang members because they see that even though they started from nothing, as they did, they became part of something that stands up to the idea that all they will ever be is at the bottom of the food chain, picking up the scraps others have left behind. For this reason, it s easy to see why these common thugs are idolised, they have respect and this is something that every person wants, especially people that aren t given any. However, it does not do us any good to look up to people that slip through the cracks of the system, but rather we should try to change the system so this build up of resentment between different facets of society does not ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The proposed WLEM is evaluated using the two weighting schemes which assigns classwise weights to the instances. The performance of WELM is dependent on the choice of these weights. The weighing schemes proposed only considers class skewness for assigning weights to the instances. It ignores other data complexity measures as class overlapping, shape of the class, length of decision boundary, class distribution etc. for computing the weights associated with the instances. Assigning weights to the instances is a difficult task as we don t know that the factors responsible for data complexity is different for different datasets. Boosted WELM (WBELM)cite{BWELM} is a variant of adaboostcite{Schapire1999} ensemble with WELMcite{WELM} as the component classifier. It differs from adaboost as equal weight is assigned to all the classes irrespective of the number of instances in that class. After each iteration the weights of the instances belonging to each class are rescaled such that total weight assigned to each class is same.it has been reported in this papercite{BWELM} , that Boosting weighted ELM and AdaBoost weighted ELM take about 10 and 50 times more training and testing time than weighted ELM. It enhances the performance of WELM at the cost of increases redundancy and computational overhead. Ensemble Weighted Extreme Learning Machine(EWELM)cite{EWELM} is a ... Since this information is keystrokes away, how can individuals or businesses monitor this public information on the Internet? Can this accessible information violate an individual s privacy? First, the word privacy is defined in numerous ways from an individual or business perspective. Based on these different views of privacy, this can impact operations or people s life. The definition of privacy for a business is to collect information about its customers, but respect the customer s privacy. According to McCreary, that growth rate reflects more than just a greater appreciation of privacy protection as a business responsibility (McCreary pg.5, 2008). The rise of these executive positions and organizations is due to privacy regulations that impact businesses. With privacy laws, businesses can collect people s personal information, analyze it, but the business has to be within reason. Before these privacy laws, business were able to collect all the information that the company can access and use that information to their advantage. If the information leaked out or was stolen, the business did not have to disclose the issue with the public or even the company s customers. Now, businesses have to release to the public on any breaches of security such as their privacy. When California passed legislation in 2003, companies were obligated to alert them to a breach at the earliest reasonable moment after it was discovered (McCreary pg.6, 2008). After this regulation was passed, other states began to adopt their own mandates of security to protect individual s privacy. Ultimately, this changed how business analyzed their risk equation. Businesses would have to face the consequences when information is breached, and the reputation from its customers. • 48. The Patriot And Avenger Weapons Systems Military forces deploy to vastly different environments across the globe. However, two of the most important discriminating factors which shape how operations are conducted are acceptance and protection of US forces by the local population. Operational environments are roughly sorted into two major categories. Permissive environments are locations where the host nation has control of its territory and supports US operations. Non permissive environments refer to locations with hostile or uncertain local response. Although the weapons systems and sensors do not change from one location to the next, the environment surrounding a deployed Air Defense unit has a significant impact on how it is best operated. The Patriot and Avenger weapons systems clearly demonstrate the disparate considerations that must be taken for implementation of each asset when employed in a permissive and non permissive environment respectively. Employment and Operations of the Patriot Missile System are dramatically impacted by its host environment. When the a unit is deployed to a permissive environment, treaties and political agreements often restrict exactly where the Patriot battery can be emplaced and what assets it will cover. In a non permissive environment, the Patriot unit can position itself in the optimal position as long as it is adequately defensible and nests within the higher commander s plan. A second major difference for employment is mobility. It is typical for Patriot to be ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
