Muda Mura and Muri | Lean Manufacturing Wastes Lean Manufacturing Wastes
When people think of waste in manufacturing they usually only think about all of the scrap material
that gets thrown away or if your lucky recycled, they often forget about all of the other actions that
waste our time, our resources and our MONEY..
When someone who has had some contact with Lean Manufacturing talks about waste they are often
talking about Muda, or the seven wastes (or 8+ wastes depending on your definitions), but they often
forget the other wastes defined within the Toyota Production System; Mura and Muri.

MURA is a subnational programme developed in the early 2000s out of the implementation of the
investment for health concept in Slovenia. Its goals are: (i) to improve the health and quality of life for
the people in the Pomurje region through the identification, development, implementation and
strengthening of best practices in the field of socioeconomic and environmental development; (ii) to
ensure that an understanding of health underpins the development potential of the region and vice
versa, that is, development as the basis for better health. To achieve these aims, the programme aims
to integrate health into the regional development programme in the Pomurje region, which at the time
the initiative began was one of the most disadvantaged regions in Slovenia in terms of health and
socioeconomic indicators. Intersectoral collaboration plays an important role in the success of the
programme. Regional inequalities in health outcomes are tackled through specific initiatives and
activities designed to address educational and employment opportunities and to improve the economic
and environmental sustainability of the region, such as

Article VI of the U.S. Constitution state that laws passed by Congress, and action by the president,
must meet the standards of the Constitution. Article VI is intended to state that the rights and liberties
of citizens are secure. Unless the government can prove that it has a very good reason to control
individual s freedom. By virtue of being human, all individuals are in possessions of certain natural
rights, such as the right to a free trial and freedom of speech, freedom of religion. Civil liberties are
freedoms that are guaranteed protection of people from an over powerful government. Civil liberties

But it became important during 20th century.
These liberties include freedom of thought, belief, expression, and assembly; protection against
unreasonable searches and captures; and provisions for a court hearing prior to government taking of a
person s life, liberty, or property. Civil liberty is not absolute, it is subject to limitations in order to
secure or promote the greater interests of the community. The State may protect civil liberty through
its laws against interference by other individuals, or through its constitutional system against
interference by any single part of the Government. But the State always possesses the power, through
its legal power, to limit and shorten or even destroy civil liberty.
During certain times the government may place limits on civil liberties. This is allowed during war
time or during other national crisis. People want to limit the liberties because of the safety problem.
Citizens have the right to challenge government actions by initiating legal action. In such a case, the
U. S. Supreme Court uses its power of judicial review, which included the power to void any
legislative or executive action that violates constitutional rights. Recent events such as, the debate
over gay marriage and abortion ensure that our conceptions of liberty and equal rights will continue to
rise in future. We can describe civil liberty as the story of managing the collision between the need
and desire of the

Waiting For Superman Research Paper
Reflection on Waiting for Superman
The movies Waiting for Superman investigated the ways in which the American Public Education
system is failing our nation s children. It highlighted the roles that Charter Schools and education
reformers could play in an effort to offer hope for the future. The movie moreover, depicted the
dropout rate of high school students and schools closing due to lack of funding.
Families of five children, who were enrolled in public school, shared their personal stories. These
families have taken the necessary steps to provide their children with the opportunity to obtain a good
education. The children themselves aspire to be great, and desired the opportunity to one day be able
to attend college. They feared, however devoid of a good public education that dream would not be
realized. Consequently, the families turned to the Charter schools, a system which give parents in
generally low income neighborhoods a second choice they would not usually have. Charter schools
have proven to have great successful outcomes. Nevertheless, for the charter schools to accommodate
the number of applications a lottery system was instituted. Families have to submit to a lottery system,

The lyrics express Guthrie s belief that the working class should have the same rights as the rich. He
very proudly carried the torch of singing songs about the American worker. Woody Guthrie s music
was not written down, but instead sung, performed, and taught completely by memory. The structure
of this song is easy and memorable, using an ACAB format, which repeats the beginning of the
melody (A section) for the third line. There was a certain Americana aspect to his folk music. He was
a migrant farmer traveling as a country singer, using only his guitar and voice (occasionally using a
harmonica) in his performances. He created songs from the sights he saw as he traveled all over the
USA as a country singer, and spoke out against the lack of fairness and justice of capitalism and poor
treatment of blue collar workers. He preached that his folk music was not just something that was
made just to sell and make money , it was intensively focused on political and worldly events.
Nat King Cole s Unforgettable released in 1952. Nat King Cole was widely accepted among white

Summary of Max Webers The Protestant Ethic and the Spirit...
Summary of Max Webers The Protestant Ethic and the Spirit of Capitalism
Max Weber s The Protestant Ethic and the Spirit of Capitalism is a study of the relationship between
the ethics of ascetic Protestantism and the emergence of the spirit of modern capitalism. Weber argues
that the religious ideas of groups such as the Calvinists played a role in creating the capitalistic spirit.
Weber first observes a correlation between being Protestant and being involved in business, and
declares his intent to explore religion as a potential cause of the modern economic conditions. He
argues that the modern spirit of capitalism sees profit as an end in itself, and pursuing profit as
virtuous. Weber s goal is to understand the source of this ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
While important, this alone cannot explain the need to pursue profit. One branch of Protestantism,
Calvinism, does provide this explanation. Calvinists believe in predestination that God has already
determined who is saved and damned. As Calvinism developed, a deep psychological need for clues
about whether one was actually saved arose, and Calvinists looked to their success in worldly activity
for those clues. Thus, they came to value profit and material success as signs of God s favor. Other
religious groups, such as the Pietists, Methodists, and the Baptist sects had similar attitudes to a lesser
degree. Weber argues that this new attitude broke down the traditional economic system, paving the
way for modern capitalism. However, once capitalism emerged, the Protestant values were no longer
necessary, and their ethic took on a life of its own. We are now locked into the spirit of capitalism
because it is so useful for modern economic activity.
Throughout his book, Weber emphasizes that his account is incomplete. He is not arguing that
Protestantism caused the capitalistic spirit, but rather that it was one contributing factor. He also
acknowledges that capitalism itself had an impact on the development of the religious ideas. The full
story is much more complex than Weber s partial account, and Weber himself constantly reminds his
readers about his own limitations. The book itself has an introduction and five chapters. The first three
chapters make up

Political Ideologies
Introduction
Ideology defined by Heywood would be: A set of more or less coherent ideas that provide bases for
organized political actions. Its central features are an account of existing power relationships, a model
of a desired future, and an outline of how political change can and should be brought about. (2007: 68)
This essays main focus will be discussing the main ideologies and focuses of the two leading political
parties of South Africa. The African National Congress or ANC and the Democratic Alliance also
known as DA. An important insight into both their ideology will be gained by analysing how both
parties political powers are reflected in the economic sector and society and to which extend their

Ensuring that every citizen has access to an affordable education system; to water and food and a safe
place to sleep. But because this system is still very new, and with limited amounts of money available
the development takes its time. So in summery a welfare state is a concept of government in which the
state plays a key role in the protection and promotion of the economic and social well being of its
citizens. It is based on the principles of equality of opportunity, equitable distribution of wealth, and
public responsibility for those unable to avail themselves of the minimal provisions for a good life. (4)
As we can see this explanation of a welfare state again reflects many of the ANCs key values and
mission statements.
Other Ideologies such as socialism also implementing their ideas into the current ANC principles and
the way the ANC interacts with the community. Ideas such as uniting people together through the
ANC Youth League, Sport Clubs, Holiday camps and many other community building elements.
Further on fraternity and social quality (as discussed above) feed into socialism and what comes with
it.
Another (from my point of view) big part in our current government system plays communism. Where
the large orientation seems to come from a mix of ideologies of orthodox Marxism infused with
Leninism. Which should not be mistaken for the old USSR government system, which was ruled by a
single dictator Joseph Stalin (1878 1953). In

Analysis Of My Last Duchess
In the poems studied, love and death are presented in very different ways. My Last Duchess is a
dramatic monologue, which describes the Duke s obsession with his Duchess. Similarly, Do not go
gentle into that good night presents love and death as a battle to prevent deaths victory. Remember , in
contrast, explores love and death through subverting the sonnet form to guidance on coping with the
death of your partner.
The title My Last Duchess demonstrates from the outset the Duke s obsession by the use of the
possessive pronoun My . Furthermore, the fact that it is a monologue with no other contributory voice
exemplifies his need to dominate and possess even the dialogue. The curtain I have drawn for you is
an oblique and metaphorical reference to the death of the Duchess not only is he revealing the
Duchess s portrait but also the beginning of her end.
His need to possess is expressed by I call that piece a wonder, now the use of the word now and piece
is significant. It is only when his wife is a portrait that he can admire her and control who looks upon
her. The Duchess has been silenced through death. Browning presents love through the obsession of
the Duchess and reflects on how death can be caused by this. The Duke is based on Alonso II who was
the ruler of Ferrara, Italy in 1559 1597, and his wife Lucrezia died in a skeptical circumstance. The
duke and the envoy go back downstairs while the duke talks about a dowry and about this statue of the

and that it was taking and finding a way to get the rich. The more people discovered about the gold the
more people wanted to get the gold. So everybody including immigrants would come to California

use pans to get the gold out of the ground. It felt like the people after the gold had forgotten what was
important to them and they were all filled with greed to fulfil what they want to be rich. As if the
people had forgotten on what was the best thing for them was the gold and power to have a bigger or
better business to them and get even more rich and that it could lead them down to a path of power
and greed that they can forget all of the compassion and kindness that they had and that they lose what

Turkeys In The Kitchen Analysis
Turkeys in the kitchen by Dave Barry, A Plague of Tics by David Sedaris. Both essays cover two very
different subjects Dave Barry s essay covers sexism as he chose Thanksgiving dinner prep as the focus
point so that he can point out how a simple family gathering is one the most sexist events that happens
throughout a year. While David Sedaris takes place in his youth, right away you can tell that young
David is plagued with severe OCD and not the cleaning kind. His essay starts out with his teacher
scolding him for licking the light switches in the classroom, and he doesn t understand why he gets in
trouble for it. Both essays are done very well and both are connected by humor. Dave Barry on sexism
and David Sedaris on mental illness but David Sedairs s in my opinion is the better essay. Although
Dave Barry covers sexism and he makes it very humorous and has a lot of very strong points that
happens every single day, and A Plague of Tics by David Sedaris is like the retelling of a very sad
childhood plagued by uncomfortable moments, humiliation and urges that he cannot control and
covers it up with humor. That is why I choose A Plague of Tics by David Sedaris as the stronger essay
even though Turkeys in the Kitchen by Dave Barry is short sweet and to the point, and I understood
exactly what he was trying to say. A Plague of Tics by David Sedaris is long winded, over detailed and
left me slightly confused. Now David s essays takes place in 1967 in Raleigh, North Carolina
normally third graders are between the ages of eight and ten so the date is not exact. Young David is
being scolded by his teacher Miss Chestnut for getting up during class 28 times to lick the light
switch, pencil sharpener and among other things. She decides to send a note home with David to tell
his mother that she will be visiting to talk about his behavior. While this takes place, there is another
form of a power struggle going on inside a young David s head his OCD is whispering to him that he
needs to do abnormal things such as smack the heel of his shoe to his forehead. Now back in the mid
1960s OCD had yet to be categorized as a mental disorder normally the embarrassment when someone
does these abnormal actions tends to

In Pericles s Funeral Speech for Athenian War Dead, he brings the listeners attention to the form of

the leadership strategy of Pericles.
Throughout Pericles s childhood, he interacted with artist, philosophers, and musicians. This
interaction took a huge role in his character, and he became a leader of Athens and a huge supporter of
the arts. After the Persian invasion in 480, most Athenians refused to rebuild Acropolis which was in a

Women s Bargaining Power Within The Household Sphere
To what extent is this waged work empowering for women? Views will be respectively discussed in
following two aspects:
1) women s bargaining power within the household sphere
It is possible that waged work has a positive effect on women s intra household relations, mainly the
autonomy and the right to participate in family decision making.
However, intra household relations are full of the ideology of love. Because of the constraints of
patriarchal structure and gender asymmetry, these inequalities restrict women s autonomous behavior,
lead to a difficulty of judgment in the power of family and the impact of women s wages.(Giddens,
1979)My conclusion, however, is that new opportunities for women s employment have led to a

Because the bleak outlook for employment leaves women with no choice but to participate in informal
work as a single option rather than a first option . (McInnis Dittrich, 1995 ) However, it is truth that
the informal work meets the employment needs of different female workers.
Women have a tendency to prefer discretionary hours and choose part time employment. In 1997, a
UK labor force survey showed that 78.3 % of women chose part time employment mainly because
they did not like full time employment. There are two main considerations: First, the full realization of
the self and want free time to do what they are willing to do. The second is to strive for both work and
family. ( Li, 2001 )At this time, informal employment provides women with an ability of choice,
women have the right to choose by their own, which is a part of the empowerment of women.
(2) A Way of Female Human Capital Accumulation
Informal employment not only plays a role in promoting the growth of female employment, but also
as a way to enhance human capital, providing an effective channel for women to migrate from low
level and informal labor market to high level and regular labor market.
First, as what I have discussed before, women, especially urban laid off women and migrant workers
are vulnerable groups in the labor market, in the sense that the informal labor market, which is
relatively low access standards and less employment costs, increase the employment space for

How Can English Be An Official Language
Language is formed through culture, history, and evolves over time in order to be able to communicate
with one another. Differences in languages are based on where people are from, who they may be, and
their own experiences. All languages have unique value, and all display their own ways of seeing the
world. Languages and cultures are constantly changing due to influences we have on one another in
the way we speak and write. Different languages are always mixing through contact on media, like the

The Effects Of Gender And Sex Role Orientation On...
Effects of Gender and Sex Role Orientation on Attitudes Toward Dependent Personality Disorder
Dependent personality disorder (DPD) is characterized by a passive need for reassurance, direction,
and support. Those with DPD typically view themselves as helpless and weak and others as competent
and strong (Disney, 2013). According to the American Psychological Association (APA, 2013), DPD
is one of the most commonly diagnosed personality disorders. However, compared to other
personality disorders, there has been little research completed on DPD and little research regarding
sex differences in those diagnosed with DPD (Disney, 2013; Loas, Cormier, Perez Diaz, 2011).
Specifically, there is a dearth of research regarding attitudes toward ... Show more content on

Therefore, evidence suggests that simply being a female appears to make one more likely to be
diagnosed with DPD (Loas et al., 2011). Some researchers argue that more women are diagnosed with
DPD due to traditional gender stereotypes. These traditional gender stereotypes suggest that men are
independent and assertive and women are dependent and passive (Berk Rhodes, 2005). Currently,
there is little research investigating the attitudes toward men diagnosed with DPD. Instead, the vast
majority of research regarding sex differences in DPD focuses on behavioral manifestations of
dependency needs. For example, Loas et al. (2011) found that men with DPD were more likely to
engage in spousal abuse. Additionally, Kierski and Blazina (2009) found that, despite equal
dependency needs, men are more likely to deny dependency needs in an effort to conform to societal
pressures. Perhaps understanding the attitudes toward men diagnosed with DPD would help inform
the degree of societal pressure placed on men to conform to traditionally masculine stereotypes
(Bohan, 2002).
Some researchers suggest that the current personality disorder diagnostic system is biased toward
diagnosing women with DPD (Barzega et al., 2001; Disney, 2013; Klonsky et al., 2002). This is likely
due to the relationship between DPD diagnostic criteria and traditional gender stereotypes (Berk
Rhodes, 2005; Disney, 2013). A diagnosis

The company, which claims to be profitable since 2009 10, is not publicly listed and does not

Analysis of Judith H. Dobrzynski´s High Culture Goes...
Judith H. Dobrzynski s article, High Culture Goes Hands On, suggests that the museums current trend
of providing visitors with an experience threatens the current model of providing solace and
inspiration (Dobrzynski 3). However, I disagree with this conclusion. Interactive experiences and
contemplative approaches can co exist just so long as museums adjust in response to how our ever
evolving culture receives it. Transitioning from museums elitist paradigm is critical to creating a more
accessible community conscious design. Dobrzynski, on the other hand, views these differences as
shedding the very characteristics that made [art museums] so special (1), a pessimistic sentiment that
shows her contempt towards development.
Before we can assess the roles of a museum, what exactly is the institution? Didier Maleuvre explains
museums as, devoted to the protection, preservation, exhibition, and furtherance of what a community
agrees to identify as works of art (Maleuvre 9). As we develop new modes of interaction and
technological advancements, are museums that provide interactive experiences and art works not
included in this explanation? I certainly do not think so. Audience engagement should not be feared
but promoted; the trouble, though, is finding the right balance. Maleuvre also believes that it was the
museum s responsibility to challenge the status quo, and its own cultural identity, which, provides
further cause for change as museums have moved away from

Roles Of The Jury
Twelve men and women appointed to a case are known as the Jury of that case. This jury must take
care in rendering a decision, their own experiences and emotions may play a role in their decision and
they also must take their time and consider all options before agreeing if the defendant is innocent or
guilty. The men and women on the jury must take so much care in rendering a decision because,
depending on the crime, the rest of someone s life may be on the line. If the roles were reversed and a
jury member were in the place of the defendant, they would want whomever was on the jury to take
the time and consider every piece of evidence and think of every statement that was said. The
defendant is innocent until proven guilty, the

Dehydration Of Sulfuric Acid And Phosphoric Acid
Dehydration of 2 methylcyclohexanol Authors: Johnny Presley Abstract: Dehydration of 2
methylcyclohexanol to 3 methylcyclohexene is simple distillation where dehydration was used to
prepare the final product. The results of the experiment showed that the 3 methylcyclohexene was
formed via an E1 reaction from 2 methylcyclohexanol with a 1:1 ratio of sulfuric acid and phosphoric
acid. However, some H2O was left over, which was seen when we look at the IR and see a small water
peak. This could be due to the fact that not enough sodium sulfate was added and not for long enough.
These results were confirmed by the quality tests that showed that a precipitate formed when KMnO4
was added to the solution and in the IR spectroscopy peaks showed peaks at 3022.62cm 1 which
matches an alkene, further showing that the formation of 3 methylcyclohexene was successful with a
percent yield of 56.46%. Introduction: The major reaction that happened was an E1 reaction
(otherwise known as a unimolecular elimination reaction). In this reaction the removal of an HX
substituent group results in the formation of a double bond via beta hydrogen elimination4. In an E1
reaction the deprotonation of hydrogen in the beta position occurs and from here a carbocation is
formed, which results in the formation of an alkene product. This happens when the OH group on the
2 methylcyclohexanol is hydrated by H2SO4, which allows the OH to become an H2O. Since H20 is a
better leaving group now it will

Pawnee Tribe Tribe Essay
There are many Plains indians tribes, all unique in their own ways. One of the most unique tribes that
stand out among the rest is the Pawnee tribe. The Pawnee tribe is really known as the Pawnee tribe of
Oklahoma. The Pawnee are originally from Kansas and Nebraska but they were forced to move from
these states and had to be moved onto a reservation in Oklahoma. They were moved onto this
reservation in Oklahoma in the 1800 s, and most of the tribe have been in Oklahoma ever since. On
their reservation, they have many ways that they are organized unlike other Plains Indian tribes. The
Pawnee have their own police, laws, government, and their own public services. Although it may
seem, that since they have all these things, it makes them a small country inside of a country, the
people of the Pawnee tribe are still U.S. Citizens and therefore have to follow American laws. Even
though the Pawnee tribe is originally from the states of Nebraska and Kansas, they are federally
recognized as being from Oklahoma. The Pawnee group of people are unique in many different ways.
The men, women, and children all have different jobs than each other. The men were usually the
hunters and went to war to protect their family only when needed. The men would take their children,
usually boys, on hunting and fishing trips. The women of the tribe would cook, take care of the
children while the father was out, and they were the farmers as well. The children of the tribe would
go to school, help

Probable Cause Plus Exigent Circumstances
2. Probable Cause Plus Exigent Circumstances The probable cause plus exigent circumstances
exception to the search warrant requirement applies when the exigencies of the situation make the
needs of law enforcement so compelling that a warrantless search is objectively reasonable under the
Fourth Amendment. The state bears the burden of proving that the search falls under this exception.
The exception requires that an officer have probable cause and that the situation present exigent
circumstances. To have probable cause, there must exist a fair probability that the police will find
evidence of a crime. However, no amount of probable cause can justify a warrantless search or seizure
absent exigent circumstances. Whether a law enforcement officer was justified in acting in the absence
of a warrant depends on the totality of circumstances. The United States Supreme Court uses a careful
case by case approach to determine whether circumstances rose to the required level of exigency.
Recognized exigent circumstances that justify warrantless entry may include, but are not limited to:
entering to provide emergency aid to someone inside, pursuant to an immediate threat to officer safety,
in hot pursuit of a fleeing suspect, to put out a fire and investigate its cause, and to prevent the
imminent destruction of evidence of a serious crime. While circumstances that present the requisite
exigency to justify a warrantless search differ, in each

Compare And Contrast Popular Mechanics And A Good Man Is...
In life, sometimes random events will lead to one s death. These two stories, Popular Mechanics and A
Good Man is Hard to Find , both portray this idea. Popular Mechanics, written by Raymond Carver,
has a baby torn apart by its own mother and father s hate for one another. The mother randomly saw
the picture of the child and took it, and this stirred up emotions in the both of them. Enough emotions
to stop paying attention to the child s well being. A Good Man is Hard to Find is written by Flannery
O Connor, and in it a family of six crash because of their cat, and a murderer of a sort drives by
randomly, eventually leading to the death of them all. In these two stories, both the important
characters die in the climax, and both characters, baby and cat, are catalysis in the story. The style of
each story is negative writing and destructive in nature.
Both Popular Mechanics and A Good Man is Hard to Find both have very similar climaxes. In each
story, a character dies as the main point within it, leading to the reader having to interpret their death.
The misfit sprang back as if a snake had bitten him and he shot her three times through the chest. Then
he put his gun down in the ground and took off his glasses and began to clean them. (O Connor, p.122)
This clearly shows the misfits attitude towards death and the killing of others. A part of the
disconnection of her death is that the misfit naturally enjoys to kill, and does not have a connection to
her. She reaches out to him, and he later cleans off his glasses like she was just another dead person.
This is unlike Popular Mechanics in that the killers care for the one they kill. She caught the baby
around the wrist and leaned back...He felt the baby slipping out of his hands and he pulled back very
hard. In this manner, the issue was decided. (Carver p.125) Both of the parents love their baby,
however the hatred for one another has blinded them and in the end it destroys it. The ending is left to
one s interpretation, but the baby most likely died given how fragile they are and how aggressive the
mother and father were. The old lady in A Good Man is Hard to Find died a cold death leaving the
killer to be either board or satisfied, and the

Danny Saunders In Chaim Potok s The Chosen
In Chaim Potok s The Chosen, Danny Saunders is a Hasidic Jew with an amazing mind, who lives
with his tzaddik father, Rebbe Isaac Saunders, and all of his followers. Rebbe Saunders never speaks
to Danny except when discussing Talmud in order to force Danny to be compassionate. Danny does
not understand why his father does this, and is in constant torment because of it. In the neighborhood
where he lives there is an expressed tension between the different sects of Judaism, of which Hasidism
is thought to be an outcast even of them. Danny has a love and great talent for baseball, but sport is
considered sinful on many different levels to most Jews. Danny nevertheless convinces his father to
allow him to create a baseball team, on the grounds that they defeat an Orthodox Jew s team led by a
Coach Galanter (the other best team in the league), at their own game. During the game Danny meets
an Orthodox Jew who is excellent at pitching, on the other team, ... Show more content on

Analysis Of The Movie I Didn t Sleep
Rory walked with Valentina back to her mom s house, not that far from the town square. She
contemplated telling her mom and Luke about Jess reemergence, but she didn t know how long he was
staying, or if he was staying at all, so she decided not to say anything. Jess had been right, the air was
crisp tonight and she should ve brought a blanket for her daughter, and a jacket for herself. But she
wouldn t let herself think that Jess was right, what does he know about being a parent, not that she
knew every trick in the book either. Rory got back to the house a few minutes later and carefully took
her sleeping daughter out of her stroller and took her inside to her room. Lorelei had redone Rory s
room when she was away so she could fit a training bed for Valentina. Rory placed Valentina in her
bed and then got ready for bed herself. All night though, she couldn t sleep. She had just seen the man
that she loved for the first time in four years. Why is he back? she thought. Where is he going next?
How will I contact him?. She didn t believe Jess, that he was just here to read. He hated this town with
every inch of his being, he wouldn t have come back if he didn t have a reason. Valentina woke up
early that next morning, much to Rory s disliking. Valentina came in Rory s bed and cuddled up with
her, before starting to jump on the bed. Rory sighed. The jumping on the bed was fun and cute when
she had a full nights sleep, not three hours. Go see if Nana and

Okonkwo Identity
In the the book Things Fall Apart, the main character in the book is Okonkwo and he is a leader and a
type of person who always stands by tradition. Okonkwo is best known for his manliness and tough
inflexible character during the book. Okonkwo is the best fighter in all of Umuofia(He was still young
but he had won fame as the greatest wrestler in the nine villages. pg6). If there was a hard place in a
rock, it would be Okonkwo but at the end of the book he kills himself. Okonkwo s sense of identity
was challenged with the introduction of Western ideas into the ibo culture. Okonkwo started the novel
harder than the metal that made the nails, but the cultural collision of the British colonist and Ibo
people affected Okonkwo to the point of him killing himself in the end instead of fighting. Ultimately
the reasons for Okonkwo s change in sense of identity and how the introduction of Western ideas
shaped the meaning of the work as a whole embodied the abandonment of the Ibo people s faith, the
British colonist of course, and the lack of understanding between the two very different cultures. ...

Okonkwo has to adapt to a new side on some of his beliefs because of the knowledge of his uncle

response to hearing this information was hostile God will not permit it, . We see evidence of the
British colonist intervening by destruction of Abame, Abame has been wiped out, said Obierika ( 102
ch 15). This evidence supports my claim because it shows the the colonist in a dark crooked light and
they ve just showed up. This shows the turmoil and negativity upon the Ibo people and they have only
yet heard about them and the abolition of Abame which led to Okonkwo s change in sense of identity

The Importance Of A Good Human Resource Department
A good human resource department is essential to any successful businesses in today s society. Before
human resource managers were seen as people who deal with employee disputes and little more, now
this is just one small part of their role to organisations. Human resource is a huge department for
reasons as being a key planner in helping company s employee performances. In this essay I will be
exploring the different types of personnel management that is used, assessing the roles of human
resource practitioners, Evaluating the responsibilities of human resource practices and evaluating the
process of job evaluations and the main factors which determine pay whilst describing the link
between motivational theories. I will also explore the different organisational approaches to
monitoring staff performances in doing so I will show evidence of my research by referencing
appropriate material.
Management of your staff is one of the most important roles of any human resource department, the
way that it is done is split into two types; personnel management and human resource management.
Personnel management is a predominantly administrative record keeping function that aims to
establish and maintain equitable terms and conditions of employment (Nayab, 2015). Human resource
management integrates the traditional personnel management functions to incorporate goals and
strategies, and performs additional people centred organizational developmental activities (Nayab,
2015). Human

The Elizabethan Er The New Form Of Entertainment
In England, all the way back to the year 1567, a man by the name of John Brayne built the first theater
that would soon become one of Englands favorite forms of entertainment. Elizabethan Theaters were
used to perform plays, poems, and a few other things to the people of England. In total, there were
eight theaters that were scattered all throughout England. The Elizabethan era lived a good long life,
and was very successful in entertaining the people during it s time. However, all good things must
come to an end, and eventually, that is what happened to the theaters. The introduction of Elizabethan
Theaters changed the country of England by giving the people a new form of entertainment, and to
showcase what playwrights and poets were capable of during the time the era lasted. In the early days
of England, the people had many forms of entertainment. Some examples include, checkers and chess,
pubs, pit fighting, and much more. In the year 1567, England was introduced to a whole new form of
entertainment. During this year, a man named John Brayne started to build the first Elizabethan
Theater. John Brayne built The Red Lion , and it was located in Whitechapel, London. The Red Lion,
was more of just a, not too serious, playhouse meant to entertain a few people here and there. Though
it was meant to entertain only a few, the theater was a big hit with the people, and soon, other theaters
started popping up, thanks to the first of it s kind, the Red Lion theater. Ten

The Problem Of A Program Funding For Public Services
There is a crisis in California today creating a stalemate in decision making and solving of any
problems the state faces. There are so many problems and so many solutions, that no progress can be
made properly without conflicting interestests and opinions pausing any headway that might have
been made. Most people believe that California is stuck where it is because of rules and regulations
that are great on their own, but terrible when combined. The result of this crisis is a downwards spiral
towards lower funding for public services and a seemingly insurmountable problem with budgeting.
Some changes have been made to help the budget, but they still aren t enough due to the many
elements that cause this crisis to be so complicated. The element that causes a program funding to go
down is the fact that a two thirds majority is required for any increase in taxes to occur. This is with
every member, not just those that are present and voting. While in the past, this has not posed as great
of a problem, currenty the majority of the Republican Party are against any tax increases, creating a
deadlock where no tax can be increased due to no way to get a two thirds majority in a vote. The
problem with the lack of tax increase, though, is that the burden of the state budgeting crisis ends up
effecting lower income residents that rely on public services. In 2012, a Democratic supermajority of
seats were won, meaning they could finally raise taxes wihtout any Republican support.

Three Day Relationship Between Romeo And Juliet
Love Story or Barely Legal Three Day Relationship? The defintion of love is to need or require;
benefit greatly from (Dictionary.com). This emotion is very prevalent in The Tragedy of Romeo and
Juliet, by William Shakespeare. Romeo and Juliet loved one another so much, they literally died for
that love. However, they were not the only ones to blame for this unfortunate event. Benvolio, Lady
Capulet, and the Capulet and Montague families were also to blame. Benvolio brought Romeo to the
party where he met Juliet, Lady Capulet kept pressuring Juliet to marry Paris, and the Capulet and
Montague families kept tearing Romeo and Juliet apart. Benvolio played a very big role in the death
of them both because he is responsible for the two of them meeting. In the play, Benvolio tells Romeo

Russians are currently involved in three conflicts to include Syria, Ukraine and the North Caucasus.
Economic Variable: Russia s economy is largely based on the production of oil, natural gas and metals
like steel and aluminum. Swings in global prices on these exported goods make the economy
vulnerable to boom and bust cycles. Although Russia underwent a 2 year recession from 2014 to 2016,
the global growth and trade started to strengthen at the end of 2016 and the economy showed signs of
overcoming the recession caused by the shocks of low oil prices and economic sanctions. The
economy is mostly based on a market based system after the collapse of the Soviet Union. With a high
concentration of wealth in officials hands due to a mostly privatized industry with notable exceptions
in the energy, transportation, banking, and defense related sectors.
Social Variable: Russia s ethnic groups are mostly homogenous while having small groups of Tatars
and Ukrainian mixed into the population of over 142 million people. Most of the population is made
up of non believers as far as religion goes due to a long Soviet rule followed by Orthodox at 20
percent and Muslim at 15 percent of the population. Russia has a high life expectancy of over 70 years

Its goals are: (i) to improve the health and quality of life for the people in the Pomurje region through the identification, development, implementation and strengthening of best practices in the field of socioeconomic and environmental development; (ii) to ensure that an understanding of health underpins the development potential of the region and vice versa, that is, development as the basis for better health. Article VI of the U.S. Constitution state that laws passed by Congress, and action by the president, must meet the standards of the Constitution. Article VI is intended to state that the rights and liberties of citizens are secure. Unless the government can prove that it has a very good reason to control individual s freedom. By virtue of being human, all individuals are in possessions of certain natural rights, such as the right to a free trial and freedom of speech, freedom of religion. But it became important during 20th century. These liberties include freedom of thought, belief, expression, and assembly; protection against unreasonable searches and captures; and provisions for a court hearing prior to government taking of a person s life, liberty, or property. Civil liberty is not absolute, it is subject to limitations in order to secure or promote the greater interests of the community. The State may protect civil liberty through its laws against interference by other individuals, or through its constitutional system against interference by any single part of the Government. But the State always possesses the power, through its legal power, to limit and shorten or even destroy civil liberty. During certain times the government may place limits on civil liberties. This is allowed during war time or during other national crisis. People want to limit the liberties because of the safety problem. Citizens have the right to challenge government actions by initiating legal action. In such a case, the U. S. Supreme Court uses its power of judicial review, which included the power to void any legislative or executive action that violates constitutional rights. Recent events such as, the debate over gay marriage and abortion ensure that our conceptions of liberty and equal rights will continue to rise in future. Waiting For Superman Research Paper Reflection on Waiting for Superman The movies Waiting for Superman investigated the ways in which the American Public Education system is failing our nation s children. It highlighted the roles that Charter Schools and education reformers could play in an effort to offer hope for the future. The movie moreover, depicted the dropout rate of high school students and schools closing due to lack of funding. Families of five children, who were enrolled in public school, shared their personal stories. These families have taken the necessary steps to provide their children with the opportunity to obtain a good education. The children themselves aspire to be great, and desired the opportunity to one day be able to attend college. They feared, however devoid of a good public education that dream would not be realized. Consequently, the families turned to the Charter schools, a system which give parents in generally low income neighborhoods a second choice they would not usually have. Charter schools have proven to have great successful outcomes. Nevertheless, for the charter schools to accommodate the number of applications a lottery system was instituted. He very proudly carried the torch of singing songs about the American worker. Woody Guthrie s music was not written down, but instead sung, performed, and taught completely by memory. The structure of this song is easy and memorable, using an ACAB format, which repeats the beginning of the melody (A section) for the third line. There was a certain Americana aspect to his folk music. He was a migrant farmer traveling as a country singer, using only his guitar and voice (occasionally using a harmonica) in his performances. He created songs from the sights he saw as he traveled all over the USA as a country singer, and spoke out against the lack of fairness and justice of capitalism and poor treatment of blue collar workers. He preached that his folk music was not just something that was made just to sell and make money , it was intensively focused on political and worldly events. Nat King Cole s Unforgettable released in 1952. Nat King Cole was widely accepted among white households, despite his ethnicity. • 6. Summary of Max Webers The Protestant Ethic and the Spirit... Summary of Max Webers The Protestant Ethic and the Spirit of Capitalism Max Weber s The Protestant Ethic and the Spirit of Capitalism is a study of the relationship between the ethics of ascetic Protestantism and the emergence of the spirit of modern capitalism. Weber argues that the religious ideas of groups such as the Calvinists played a role in creating the capitalistic spirit. Weber first observes a correlation between being Protestant and being involved in business, and declares his intent to explore religion as a potential cause of the modern economic conditions. He argues that the modern spirit of capitalism sees profit as an end in itself, and pursuing profit as virtuous. Weber s goal is to understand the source of this ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... While important, this alone cannot explain the need to pursue profit. One branch of Protestantism, Calvinism, does provide this explanation. Calvinists believe in predestination that God has already determined who is saved and damned. As Calvinism developed, a deep psychological need for clues about whether one was actually saved arose, and Calvinists looked to their success in worldly activity for those clues. Thus, they came to value profit and material success as signs of God s favor. Other religious groups, such as the Pietists, Methodists, and the Baptist sects had similar attitudes to a lesser degree. Weber argues that this new attitude broke down the traditional economic system, paving the way for modern capitalism. However, once capitalism emerged, the Protestant values were no longer necessary, and their ethic took on a life of its own. We are now locked into the spirit of capitalism because it is so useful for modern economic activity. Throughout his book, Weber emphasizes that his account is incomplete. He is not arguing that Protestantism caused the capitalistic spirit, but rather that it was one contributing factor. He also acknowledges that capitalism itself had an impact on the development of the religious ideas. The full story is much more complex than Weber s partial account, and Weber himself constantly reminds his readers about his own limitations. The book itself has an introduction and five chapters. The first three chapters make up ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

(2007: 68) This essays main focus will be discussing the main ideologies and focuses of the two leading political parties of South Africa. But because this system is still very new, and with limited amounts of money available the development takes its time. So in summery a welfare state is a concept of government in which the state plays a key role in the protection and promotion of the economic and social well being of its citizens. It is based on the principles of equality of opportunity, equitable distribution of wealth, and public responsibility for those unable to avail themselves of the minimal provisions for a good life. (4) As we can see this explanation of a welfare state again reflects many of the ANCs key values and mission statements. Other Ideologies such as socialism also implementing their ideas into the current ANC principles and the way the ANC interacts with the community. Ideas such as uniting people together through the ANC Youth League, Sport Clubs, Holiday camps and many other community building elements. Further on fraternity and social quality (as discussed above) feed into socialism and what comes with it. Another (from my point of view) big part in our current government system plays communism. Where the large orientation seems to come from a mix of ideologies of orthodox Marxism infused with Leninism. Which should not be mistaken for the old USSR government system, which was ruled by a single dictator Joseph Stalin (1878 1953). In ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. Analysis Of My Last Duchess In the poems studied, love and death are presented in very different ways. My Last Duchess is a dramatic monologue, which describes the Duke s obsession with his Duchess. Similarly, Do not go gentle into that good night presents love and death as a battle to prevent deaths victory. Remember , in contrast, explores love and death through subverting the sonnet form to guidance on coping with the death of your partner. The title My Last Duchess demonstrates from the outset the Duke s obsession by the use of the possessive pronoun My . Furthermore, the fact that it is a monologue with no other contributory voice exemplifies his need to dominate and possess even the dialogue. The curtain I have drawn for you is an oblique and metaphorical reference to the death of the Duchess not only is he revealing the Duchess s portrait but also the beginning of her end. His need to possess is expressed by I call that piece a wonder, now the use of the word now and piece is significant. It is only when his wife is a portrait that he can admire her and control who looks upon her. The Duchess has been silenced through death. Browning presents love through the obsession of the Duchess and reflects on how death can be caused by this. As if the people had forgotten on what was the best thing for them was the gold and power to have a bigger or better business to them and get even more rich and that it could lead them down to a path of power and greed that they can forget all of the compassion and kindness that they had and that they lose what that person was. • 11. Turkeys In The Kitchen Analysis Turkeys in the kitchen by Dave Barry, A Plague of Tics by David Sedaris. Both essays cover two very different subjects Dave Barry s essay covers sexism as he chose Thanksgiving dinner prep as the focus point so that he can point out how a simple family gathering is one the most sexist events that happens throughout a year. While David Sedaris takes place in his youth, right away you can tell that young David is plagued with severe OCD and not the cleaning kind. His essay starts out with his teacher scolding him for licking the light switches in the classroom, and he doesn t understand why he gets in trouble for it. Both essays are done very well and both are connected by humor. Dave Barry on sexism and David Sedaris on mental illness but David Sedairs s in my opinion is the better essay. Although Dave Barry covers sexism and he makes it very humorous and has a lot of very strong points that happens every single day, and A Plague of Tics by David Sedaris is like the retelling of a very sad childhood plagued by uncomfortable moments, humiliation and urges that he cannot control and covers it up with humor. That is why I choose A Plague of Tics by David Sedaris as the stronger essay even though Turkeys in the Kitchen by Dave Barry is short sweet and to the point, and I understood exactly what he was trying to say. A Plague of Tics by David Sedaris is long winded, over detailed and left me slightly confused. Now David s essays takes place in 1967 in Raleigh, North Carolina normally third graders are between the ages of eight and ten so the date is not exact. Young David is being scolded by his teacher Miss Chestnut for getting up during class 28 times to lick the light switch, pencil sharpener and among other things. She decides to send a note home with David to tell his mother that she will be visiting to talk about his behavior. While this takes place, there is another form of a power struggle going on inside a young David s head his OCD is whispering to him that he needs to do abnormal things such as smack the heel of his shoe to his forehead. • 13. Women s Bargaining Power Within The Household Sphere To what extent is this waged work empowering for women? Views will be respectively discussed in following two aspects: 1) women s bargaining power within the household sphere It is possible that waged work has a positive effect on women s intra household relations, mainly the autonomy and the right to participate in family decision making. However, intra household relations are full of the ideology of love. Because of the constraints of patriarchal structure and gender asymmetry, these inequalities restrict women s autonomous behavior, lead to a difficulty of judgment in the power of family and the impact of women s wages.(Giddens, 1979)My conclusion, however, is that new opportunities for women s employment have led to a small ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Because the bleak outlook for employment leaves women with no choice but to participate in informal work as a single option rather than a first option . (McInnis Dittrich, 1995 ) However, it is truth that the informal work meets the employment needs of different female workers. Women have a tendency to prefer discretionary hours and choose part time employment. In 1997, a UK labor force survey showed that 78.3 % of women chose part time employment mainly because they did not like full time employment. There are two main considerations: First, the full realization of the self and want free time to do what they are willing to do. The second is to strive for both work and family. ( Li, 2001 )At this time, informal employment provides women with an ability of choice, women have the right to choose by their own, which is a part of the empowerment of women. (2) A Way of Female Human Capital Accumulation Informal employment not only plays a role in promoting the growth of female employment, but also as a way to enhance human capital, providing an effective channel for women to migrate from low level and informal labor market to high level and regular labor market. First, as what I have discussed before, women, especially urban laid off women and migrant workers are vulnerable groups in the labor market, in the sense that the informal labor market, which is relatively low access standards and less employment costs, increase the employment space for ... Effects of Gender and Sex Role Orientation on Attitudes Toward Dependent Personality Disorder Dependent personality disorder (DPD) is characterized by a passive need for reassurance, direction, and support. Those with DPD typically view themselves as helpless and weak and others as competent and strong (Disney, 2013). According to the American Psychological Association (APA, 2013), DPD is one of the most commonly diagnosed personality disorders. However, compared to other personality disorders, there has been little research completed on DPD and little research regarding sex differences in those diagnosed with DPD (Disney, 2013; Loas, Cormier, Perez Diaz, 2011). Therefore, evidence suggests that simply being a female appears to make one more likely to be diagnosed with DPD (Loas et al., 2011). Some researchers argue that more women are diagnosed with DPD due to traditional gender stereotypes. These traditional gender stereotypes suggest that men are independent and assertive and women are dependent and passive (Berk Rhodes, 2005). Currently, there is little research investigating the attitudes toward men diagnosed with DPD. Instead, the vast majority of research regarding sex differences in DPD focuses on behavioral manifestations of dependency needs. For example, Loas et al. (2011) found that men with DPD were more likely to engage in spousal abuse. Additionally, Kierski and Blazina (2009) found that, despite equal dependency needs, men are more likely to deny dependency needs in an effort to conform to societal pressures. Perhaps understanding the attitudes toward men diagnosed with DPD would help inform the degree of societal pressure placed on men to conform to traditionally masculine stereotypes (Bohan, 2002). Some researchers suggest that the current personality disorder diagnostic system is biased toward diagnosing women with DPD (Barzega et al., 2001; Disney, 2013; Klonsky et al., 2002). This is likely due to the relationship between DPD diagnostic criteria and traditional gender stereotypes (Berk Rhodes, 2005; Disney, 2013). A diagnosis ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Dobrzynski s article, High Culture Goes Hands On, suggests that the museums current trend of providing visitors with an experience threatens the current model of providing solace and inspiration (Dobrzynski 3). However, I disagree with this conclusion. Interactive experiences and contemplative approaches can co exist just so long as museums adjust in response to how our ever evolving culture receives it. Transitioning from museums elitist paradigm is critical to creating a more accessible community conscious design. Dobrzynski, on the other hand, views these differences as shedding the very characteristics that made [art museums] so special (1), a pessimistic sentiment that shows her contempt towards development. Before we can assess the roles of a museum, what exactly is the institution? Didier Maleuvre explains museums as, devoted to the protection, preservation, exhibition, and furtherance of what a community agrees to identify as works of art (Maleuvre 9). As we develop new modes of interaction and technological advancements, are museums that provide interactive experiences and art works not included in this explanation? I certainly do not think so. • 20. Dehydration Of Sulfuric Acid And Phosphoric Acid Dehydration of 2 methylcyclohexanol Authors: Johnny Presley Abstract: Dehydration of 2 methylcyclohexanol to 3 methylcyclohexene is simple distillation where dehydration was used to prepare the final product. The results of the experiment showed that the 3 methylcyclohexene was formed via an E1 reaction from 2 methylcyclohexanol with a 1:1 ratio of sulfuric acid and phosphoric acid. However, some H2O was left over, which was seen when we look at the IR and see a small water peak. This could be due to the fact that not enough sodium sulfate was added and not for long enough. These results were confirmed by the quality tests that showed that a precipitate formed when KMnO4 was added to the solution and in the IR spectroscopy peaks showed peaks at 3022.62cm 1 which matches an alkene, further showing that the formation of 3 methylcyclohexene was successful with a percent yield of 56.46%. Introduction: The major reaction that happened was an E1 reaction (otherwise known as a unimolecular elimination reaction). In this reaction the removal of an HX substituent group results in the formation of a double bond via beta hydrogen elimination4. In an E1 reaction the deprotonation of hydrogen in the beta position occurs and from here a carbocation is formed, which results in the formation of an alkene product. This happens when the OH group on the 2 methylcyclohexanol is hydrated by H2SO4, which allows the OH to become an H2O. Since H20 is a better leaving group now it will ... The Pawnee tribe is really known as the Pawnee tribe of Oklahoma. They were moved onto this reservation in Oklahoma in the 1800 s, and most of the tribe have been in Oklahoma ever since. • 23. Probable Cause Plus Exigent Circumstances 2. Probable Cause Plus Exigent Circumstances The probable cause plus exigent circumstances exception to the search warrant requirement applies when the exigencies of the situation make the needs of law enforcement so compelling that a warrantless search is objectively reasonable under the Fourth Amendment. The state bears the burden of proving that the search falls under this exception. The exception requires that an officer have probable cause and that the situation present exigent circumstances. To have probable cause, there must exist a fair probability that the police will find evidence of a crime. However, no amount of probable cause can justify a warrantless search or seizure absent exigent circumstances. Whether a law enforcement officer was justified in acting in the absence of a warrant depends on the totality of circumstances. The United States Supreme Court uses a careful case by case approach to determine whether circumstances rose to the required level of exigency. Recognized exigent circumstances that justify warrantless entry may include, but are not limited to: entering to provide emergency aid to someone inside, pursuant to an immediate threat to officer safety, in hot pursuit of a fleeing suspect, to put out a fire and investigate its cause, and to prevent the imminent destruction of evidence of a serious crime. • 24. Compare And Contrast Popular Mechanics And A Good Man Is... In life, sometimes random events will lead to one s death. These two stories, Popular Mechanics and A Good Man is Hard to Find , both portray this idea. Popular Mechanics, written by Raymond Carver, has a baby torn apart by its own mother and father s hate for one another. The mother randomly saw the picture of the child and took it, and this stirred up emotions in the both of them. Enough emotions to stop paying attention to the child s well being. A Good Man is Hard to Find is written by Flannery O Connor, and in it a family of six crash because of their cat, and a murderer of a sort drives by randomly, eventually leading to the death of them all. In these two stories, both the important characters die in the climax, and both characters, baby and cat, are catalysis in the story. The style of each story is negative writing and destructive in nature. Both Popular Mechanics and A Good Man is Hard to Find both have very similar climaxes. In each story, a character dies as the main point within it, leading to the reader having to interpret their death. The misfit sprang back as if a snake had bitten him and he shot her three times through the chest. Then he put his gun down in the ground and took off his glasses and began to clean them. (O Connor, p.122) This clearly shows the misfits attitude towards death and the killing of others. A part of the disconnection of her death is that the misfit naturally enjoys to kill, and does not have a connection to her. She reaches out to him, and he later cleans off his glasses like she was just another dead person. This is unlike Popular Mechanics in that the killers care for the one they kill. She caught the baby around the wrist and leaned back...He felt the baby slipping out of his hands and he pulled back very hard. In this manner, the issue was decided. (Carver p.125) Both of the parents love their baby, however the hatred for one another has blinded them and in the end it destroys it. The ending is left to one s interpretation, but the baby most likely died given how fragile they are and how aggressive the mother and father were. • 31. The Problem Of A Program Funding For Public Services There is a crisis in California today creating a stalemate in decision making and solving of any problems the state faces. There are so many problems and so many solutions, that no progress can be made properly without conflicting interestests and opinions pausing any headway that might have been made. Most people believe that California is stuck where it is because of rules and regulations that are great on their own, but terrible when combined. The result of this crisis is a downwards spiral towards lower funding for public services and a seemingly insurmountable problem with budgeting. Some changes have been made to help the budget, but they still aren t enough due to the many elements that cause this crisis to be so complicated. The element that causes a program funding to go down is the fact that a two thirds majority is required for any increase in taxes to occur. This is with every member, not just those that are present and voting. While in the past, this has not posed as great of a problem, currenty the majority of the Republican Party are against any tax increases, creating a deadlock where no tax can be increased due to no way to get a two thirds majority in a vote. The problem with the lack of tax increase, though, is that the burden of the state budgeting crisis ends up effecting lower income residents that rely on public services. In 2012, a Democratic supermajority of seats were won, meaning they could finally raise taxes wihtout any Republican support. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
