1. PROJECT SYNTHESIS -
THE LONG OVERDUE, HUMANE "PLAN B" FOR THE PLANET – BECAUSE NOBODY ELSE DOES IT AND WE DO NOT HAVE ANY TIME TO LOSE.
LET’S FIND THE MOST POWERFUL SOLUTIONS FOR THE BIGGEST PROBLEMS AND IMPLEMENT THEM TEST-WISE REGIONALLY - AND THEN ROLL THEM OUT GLOBALLY.
THE FIRST COMPREHENSIVE "BEYOND ANY IDEOLOGY" TRANSFORMATION STRATEGY THAT PUTS HUMAN WELLBEING FIRST AND FOCUSES ON EXPONENTIAL INNOVATION
THROUGH SUPER-LEVERAGE POINTS, RADICAL SOLUTION TRANSPARENCY AND GLOBALLY COORDINATED TEAMWORK.
CORE TOPICS: WELL-BEING, REGENERATION, FREEDOM, DE-CENTRALISATION, CITIZEN-DRIVEN DEMOCRACY, TRANS-DISCIPLINARY HIGH-RISK/HIGH-ROI TOPICS,
RESEARCH AT THE FRONTIERS OF SCIENCE, PARADIGM-SHIFTING, IMPACT INVESTING

4. "THE 2020S WILL BE A BULL MARKET OF IDEAS TO INCREASE THE WELLBEING FOR ALL."
ABOUT ME: MARKUS SCHNEIDER, 55, INDEPENDENT SUPER-LEVERAGE POINT RESEARCHER, VISIONARY, REBEL WITH A CAUSE, SOCIAL CRITIC, COSMOPOLITAN (SPEAKS FOUR LANGUAGES),
HUMANIST, FATHER, HUSBAND, DEEP DIGGING FUTURIST & INFO-MANIAC, ALWAYS ON THE CUTTING EDGE OF THE NEXT BIG THING. HIPSTER, HIPPIE AND HACKER.
THE NAIVE AND BRAVE GUY WHO TOOK ON EXPEDIA, GOOGLE AND TRIPADVISOR (MOSTLY IN VAIN) IN THE LATE 90S AND EARLY 00S WITH NO REAL FUNDING, THE GUY WHO TRIED TO TURN
ADVERTISING AND FACEBOOK INTO A FORCE FOR GOOD (IN VAIN), THAT'S ME.
+20 YEARS OF PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE IN SOFTWARE DEVELOPMENT, PROJECT AND PROGRAM MANAGEMENT, CONTENT ANALYSIS AND ONLINE MARKETING. "TOP PERFORMER" AT SAP.
MULTIPLE STARTUP CO-FOUNDER. STUDIED ENGLISH AND SPANISH LINGUISTICS AND LITERATURE, TRAINED TRAVEL AGENT. CO-FOUNDER OF A FUTURISTIC INDIE DANCE RECORD LABEL AND
PART OF A WORLD-FAMOUS "COSMIC DISCO" DJ DUO. CURATOR OF A HIPSTER DJ MIX SERIES AND MULTIPLE UFO-EXPERIENCER.
I SEE MYSELF AS A DRIVING FORCE FOR A FUNDAMENTALLY RETHOUGHT AND BETTER FUTURE. AFTER VARIOUS PAINFUL, DEEP INSIGHTS ABOUT THE MARKETS AND THE STATE OF THE WORLD,
HOW THINGS ARE GOING AND THAT TOO FEW PEOPLE ARE COORDINATEDLY WORKING ON SOLUTIONS FOR THE ENTIRE PLANET, I HAVE BEEN LOOKING FOR THE BIGGEST LEVERS TO POSITIVELY
CHANGE SOCIETY SINCE 2016. THE RESULT IS THIS PRESENTATION, A HUGE AMOUNT OF DATA AND (HOPEFULLY) THE ACTIVITIES THAT FOLLOW.
MY RESEARCH FOCUS IS ON HIGH LEVERAGE IDEAS FOR A BETTER ECONOMY AND A HEALTHIER PLANET. MY MAIN GOAL WAS TO CREATE AN OVERVIEW OF BETTER IDEAS AND APPROACHES. THE
NEXT STEP COULD BE TO CREATE A NETWORK OF THOUGHT LEADERS THAT INSPIRES PEOPLE, CREATES NEW SOLUTIONS AND COMMUNICATES HOW CHANGE CAN BE MADE.
MY ULTIMATE VISION: TO CREATE THE LEADING INTERNATIONAL WELLBEING- AND HIGH-RISK/HIGH-LEVERAGE TOPICS FOCUSED NON-PROFIT ORGANIZATION OR COOPERATIVE THAT WORKS WITH
BUSINESSES, GOVERNMENTS, UNIVERSITIES, EXPERTS AND CIVIL SOCIETY TO ACCELERATE CHANGE TOWARDS A HEALING FUTURE.
BECAUSE I BELIEVE IN PEOPLE, THEIR IDEAS AND THEIR IMPLEMENTATION TO CREATE A BETTER WORLD.
PROJECT SYNTHESIS, AUTHOR MARKUS SCHNEIDER, HUMANE FUTURE LAB 4
5. WHY AM I DOING THIS?
THE FACT THAT I BECAME A FATHER MANY YEARS AGO, THAT I REALIZED MORE AND MORE OVER THE YEARS HOW MUCH WAS WRONG IN THE WORLD, AND THAT REALITY CONFIRMED ME, EVEN IF I WAS A FEW YEARS
AHEAD OF IT, AND AN ANXIETY DISORDER THAT IS UNFORTUNATELY NOT SO EASY TO TREAT HAVE NOT LET ME STOP
DISCLAIMER AND REALISTIC ASSESSMENT:
1. YES, I REALIZE THAT THIS IS FAR TOO BIG A TOPIC FOR ONE PERSON ALONE - HENCE THIS PRESENTATION, THAT WE CAN GO ON WITH HUNDREDS OF PEOPLE
2. YES, I AM AWARE THAT EVERY POINT IN THIS PRESENTATION CAN BE DISCUSSED AND OPTIMIZED FOR HOURS - BUT I HAVE TO START SOMEWHERE AND WANTED TO COLLECT AS MUCH INFORMATION AS POSSIBLE
SO THAT ANY DISCUSSIONS DO NOT COMPLETELY DEPRIVE US OF THE BASIS
3 -YES, I REALIZE THAT I HAVE OVERLOOKED THINGS - EVERY TOPIC TOUCHED ON OR PRESENTED ON A SLIDE DESERVES TO BE DESCRIBED IN DETAIL BY EXPERTS, I JUST WANTED TO MAKE A START TO GIVE
NEWCOMERS AN INITIAL OVERVIEW
4. YES, I REALIZE THAT NO ONE CAN KNOW EVERYTHING ABOUT EVERY TOPIC, AND I DON'T THINK THAT OF MYSELF EITHER, BUT I THINK ONE OF MY STRENGTHS IS TO OPERATE ON A META-LEVEL AND USE KNOWLEDGE
AND INTUITION TO DECIDE WHICH TOPICS ARE RELEVANT AND WHICH ARE LESS RELEVANT - I'M NOT AN EXPERT IN ANY OF THESE TOPICS, JUST ON THIS META-LEVEL
5. YES, I AM AWARE THAT THOUSANDS OF PEOPLE AROUND THE WORLD ARE ALREADY WORKING ON SUCH TOPICS - BUT NOT ENOUGH OF THEM, NOT TOGETHER, NOT WITH ENOUGH FUNDING AND USUALLY WITHOUT
ANY REAL REASON TO IMPLEMENT THE RESULT AFTERWARDS. THIS PROJECT IS INTENDED TO HELP CHANGE THAT.
6 . YES, I AM AWARE THAT IT WILL NOT BE POSSIBLE TO IMPLEMENT SUCH PROJECTS WITHOUT BILLIONS OF EUROS - BUT WHO SAYS THAT IT WILL NOT BE POSSIBLE TO PROVIDE THESE SUMS IF THE NEED IS
RECOGNIZED?
7. YES, I AM AWARE THAT THIS WILL CREATE TENS OF THOUSANDS OF NEW JOBS - THAT IS EXACTLY WHAT IS INTENDED, BECAUSE NOT ONLY THE MILLENNIALS WANT TO DO MEANINGFUL JOBS AND IMPROVE THE
WORLD.
8 . YES, I REALIZE IT WAS A CRAZY JOB - IN FACT, I THOUGHT I'D BE DONE AFTER A FEW WEEKS, BUT IT'S BEEN ABOUT EIGHT YEARS NOW, DURING WHICH I'VE BEEN WORKING ON IT ON AND OFF, PUTTING OTHER
PAYING JOBS ON THE BACK BURNER. THE FACT THAT I BECAME A FATHER, REALIZED MORE AND MORE OVER THE YEARS WHAT WAS GOING WRONG IN THE WORLD, AND AN ANXIETY DISORDER THAT UNFORTUNATELY
WASN'T SO EASY TO TREAT DIDN'T LET ME STOP.
9. YES, I REALIZE THAT THE WORK MAY HAVE BEEN IN VAIN IF NO ONE IS INTERESTED AND NO ONE GETS INVOLVED - THAT WOULD BE A SHAME, BUT I HAD TO DO IT, AND NOW I'M LETTING MY BABY OUT INTO THE
WORLD TO BE ABLE TO ACT MORE FREELY AGAIN. KEEP YOUR FINGERS CROSSED FOR ME AND FOR US.
10. YES, I AM NOT A DESIGNER AND MY FORMATTING SKILLS ARE MEDIOCRE, SO PLEASE BEAR WITH ME AND THE LAYOUT OF THIS PRESENTATION.
11. YEP, IT'S TRUE, THIS PRESENTATION IS NOT FOR PEOPLE WHO BELIEVE THAT EVERYTHING IS TOO LATE ANYWAY, THAT MANKIND IS DOING AWAY WITH ITSELF ANYWAY, THAT IT "CAN'T WORK", THAT MANY THINGS
HAVE BEEN TRIED BEFORE AND DIDN'T WORK - IT'S NOT A PROJECT FOR YOU AND WE WON'T TALK TO YOU ABOUT IT BECAUSE OUR TIME IS TOO PRECIOUS. HOPE YOU UNDERSTAND, WE ARE DOING THIS FOR OUR KIDS
AND THE BIOSPHERE OF THIS BEAUTIFUL PLANET. AND FOR OUR PEACE OF MIND.
12. YES, IT'S TRUE, THIS IS A PRESENTATION FOR SELF-STUDY, MORE LIKE AN ILLUSTRATED BOOK WITH PICTURES AND SHORT SENTENCES THAN A LECTURE, BUT YOU'LL BE FINE WITH THAT.

10. GOAL:
WITH "PROJECT SYNTHESIS", WE WANT TO ACCELERATE THE TRANSITION TO A WORLD WHERE PEOPLE'S HEALTH AND
HAPPINESS COME FIRST.
OUR APPROACH:
WE DO THIS BY CO-CREATING A "PLAN B" FOR THE PLANET, CONDUCTING RESEARCH TO FIND “SUPER-LEVERAGE POINTS”
WHICH CAN ACCELERATE POSITIVE CHANGE EXPONENTIALLY, CREATING AN OVERVIEW ON EXISTING SOLUTIONS AND
SUPPORTING AND UNITING INNOVATORS AND THE PEOPLE WHO WANT TO JOIN THEM.
FOCUS:
TO HELP PEOPLE AROUND THE WORLD COME UP WITH AND APPLY WELL-BEING-FOCUSED SOLUTIONS MORE QUICKLY, WE
WORK
- TO RAISE AWARENESS ABOUT SUPER-LEVERAGE POINTS,
- INCREASE TRANSPARENCY ABOUT EXISTING SOLUTIONS,
- ENCOURAGE CO-OPERATION AMONG INNOVATORS AND LIKEMINDED,
- SIMPLIFY COMPLEXITY AND
- EMPOWER ENTREPRENEURS AND RESEARCHERS WITH MORE AND BETTER INFORMATION, NETWORKING, AND FUNDING
OPPORTUNITIES.
PROJECT SYNTHESIS, AUTHOR MARKUS SCHNEIDER, HUMANE FUTURE LAB 10
11. STEP 1 – SOLUTION KNOWLEDGE: IDENTIFY, ANALYZE & AGGREGATE
TO RECOGNIZE THE SCOPE OF THE META-CRISIS
TO IDENTIFY THE QUESTIONS WE NEED TO ASK
TO IDENTIFY THE SKILLS WE NEED TO ANSWER THEM CORRECTLY
TO SET NEW PRIORITIES FOR OUR FUTURE SYSTEMS
TO IDENTIFY TOPICS THAT MIGHT BE THE HIGHLY IMPACTFUL SUPER-LEVERAGE POINTS
TO IDENTIFY POTENTIALLY EXISTING SUITABLE TOPICS AND SOLUTIONS
TO IDENTIFY INDIVIDUALS AND TEAMS WHO ARE ALREADY CREATING SOLUTIONS
STEP 2 – SOLUTION WORKERS COMMUNITY: SHAPE, INFORM & UNITE
TO SET UP A “THINK AND DO TANK” TO PROACTIVELY ACCELERATE META-CRISIS SOLUTION RESEARCH (FOR NOW CALLED “HUMANE
FUTURE LAB”)
TO SET UP A COMMUNITY & NETWORKING PLATFORM FOR EVERYBODY WHO WORKS ON SOLVING THE META-CRISIS (FOR NOW CALLED
“THE HIT BUREAU”)
TO CREATE A LIBRARY AND SET UP “TOPIC-AI”S WITH ESSENTIAL KNOWLEDGE TO INSPIRE AND EDUCATE
TO GATHER, SHARE AND PROMOTE SOLUTION APPROACHES FROM ANYWHERE IN THE WORLD (STANDARDIZED BEST PRACTICES)
STEP 3 – OWN PROJECTS: FUND, DEVELOP & IMPLEMENT
TO PROVIDE A PROCESS FOR COMMUNITY MEMBERS TO RECEIVE FUNDS FOR THEIR RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT PROJECTS
TO DEFINE A DEVELOPMENT PROCESS WITH MILESTONES FOR THESE PROJECTS AND ENSURE THEIR SUCCESS ON A GLOBAL SCALE
TO DECIDE ON THE MOST SUITABLE LEGAL FORM OF ALL FUNDED START-UPS, CO-OPS AND NON-FOR-PROFIT COMPANIES

TRENDS AND THE UPCOMING REVOLUTIONS FOR
WHICH SOLUTIONS ARE BEING SOUGHT?
PROJECT SYNTHESIS, AUTHOR MARKUS SCHNEIDER, HUMANE FUTURE LAB 14
15. PROBLEM 1:
WE ARE IN THE BIGGEST
MENTAL HEALTH CRISIS
OF ALL TIME
According to the WHO's World Mental Health
Report published in early 2022, depression
and anxiety increased by 25% in the first year
of the pandemic, bringing the total number of
people living with a mental disorder to almost
1,000,000,000 people, including "due to
social stigma and discrimination".
Globally, the mental health workforce is not
able to meet the demand that this situation
creates. There is a shortage of millions of
skilled workers.

16. PROBLEM 2: WE NEED THE
TOOLS AND SERVICES FOR
THE COMING HOLISTIC
HEALTH REVOLUTION
"The sixth Kondratieff is a health-related
cycle. This means that for the first time in
history, the focus of economic and social
development is not on a machine, a chemical
process, an energy or hardware technology,
but on people with their physical, mental,
psychological, social, ecological and spiritual
needs, problems and potential. We are
leaving the growth patterns of earlier
Kondratieff cycles behind us. Now the focus
is on people. This is the message of the sixth

17. PROBLEM 3:
WE NEED THE TOOLS AND
JOBS FOR THE COMING
HUMAN REVOLUTION
The new paradigm:
People,
Planet,
Purpose,
Wellbeing for "The good future"

Digital, sustainability, purpose

18. PROBLEM 4: WE NEED
THE MARKET FOR THE
COMING MEANING AND
PURPOSE REVOLUTION
Consumers, young people and
employees are striving for more
meaningful goals, i.e. they want to buy
"good" products and work in "good"
jobs. Companies that do not fulfill
these goals will lose market share and
disappear over time.

19. PROBLEM 5: WE ARE IN
A GLOBAL, NETWORKED
META-CRISIS
"(The meta-crisis is) a single phenomenon.
We can see it as an ecological crisis.
We may think of a psychological or spiritual
crisis.
We may see it as a cultural crisis and a
breakdown of the community, the family and so
on.
We may think it is a crisis of government,
economy and finance.
And it is all of these things. But it can't be
reduced to just one of them. That's why it's a
meta-crisis."
Terry Patten (philosopher, author, activist and social
entrepreneur)
Solutions must therefore be found and implemented
in all areas.

1. mental health problems such as
depression and anxiety are on the
rise due to financial insecurity,
work-related stress, social media
and the abolition of culture
2. erosion of democracy due to
money in politics, the role of the
media and increasing
authoritarianism
3. spiritual crisis, unanswered
questions of meaning vs.
existential meaninglessness
4. unfair and ineffective social,
economic and political systems
5. economic problems such as
rising debt, low economic growth,
job insecurity
6. ecological issues: climate

depletion of resources
7. social issues: social isolation,

20. PROBLEM 6:
"THE MARKET" FAILS TO
SOLVE THE WORLD'S MOST
PRESSING "SOLVABLE"
PROBLEMS
Market power has its limits. Not every major
problem can be solved with one business
model.
80,000 Hours regularly publishes a list of the
world's biggest solvable problems, i.e.
unusually large problems that pose an
existential threat to future generations and
that can be positively influenced by
individuals.
At Project Synthesis, we have selected the
neglected issues that have the greatest
potential to have a positive impact on people
if these issues are properly addressed.
1. risks due to AI 2. development of effective
altruism
3. implementation of research on
global priorities
4. improvement of decision-
making (in important institutions)
5. strengthening the resilience of
civilization
6. reduction of the risk of
suffering
7. promotion of positive values 8. deepening and expanding
consciousness research (AI and
humans)
9. improving incentives and
governance for global public
goods
10. mitigating the risks of stable
totalitarianism
11. improvement of individual
thinking and cognition
12. democratization of space

21. PROBLEM 7: OUR
SYSTEMS ARE NOT (YET)
DESIGNED FOR WELL-
BEING
What is essential for physical
survival?
We need economic and social
systems that fully support the
achievement of these goals for all.

22. PROBLEM 8: THE "SOCIO-
ECOLOGICAL"
TRANSFORMATION LACKS A
LARGE PART OF THE
"SOCIAL" DIMENSION
In 2023, German politics focused on climate,
gender roles, immigration and the war in
Russia, while the classic issues of
transformation towards justice, a good life for
all and the displacement of power and
domination were clearly underexposed.

ecological transformation" - Parliamentary
Advisory Council on Sustainable
Development, German Bundestag, 15th from
March 2023
Important suggestions:
The ecological and social costs should be borne by the polluters and
should not be passed on to uninvolved third parties (no more
externalization of costs)
What is needed is a value-based modernization concept with a
regulatory framework that promotes and accelerates technological
and social innovation in the service of the common good
More opportunities for participation and representation are needed
New mechanisms for democracies to commit themselves so that
binding targets can be agreed in the longer term without these being
constantly under discussion in day-to-day political business
Main objectives:
Recognizing and overcoming obstacles and opposing forces
Removing obstacles to transformation: weak institutions and lack of
policymaking
Ensuring a fair distribution of obligations and opportunities for action
Important measures:
Alliances of people, initiatives, parties, civil society organizations,
trade unions and companies as an essential prerequisite for
confronting the power that hinders transformation processes.
Despite their different perspectives and backgrounds, these
alliances should work together to drive forward a socio-ecological
transformation.
In addition, the role of civil society, including civil society
organizations and the church, is emphasized in order to take into
account the interests of disadvantaged groups.
PROJECT SYNTHESIS, AUTHOR MARKUS SCHNEIDER, HUMANE FUTURE LAB 22
23. PROBLEM 9: THERE IS A
LACK OF OVERARCHING
MEANINGFUL
COLLECTIVE GOALS
"ChatGPT, what would be the
12 things the global
community needs to achieve
for a new "Golden Age"?"
1. general free access to

PROJECT SYNTHESIS, AUTHOR MARKUS SCHNEIDER, HUMANE FUTURE LAB 23
24. PROBLEM 10: WE ARE
NOT YET FOCUSING ON
EFFECTIVE LEVERAGE
POINTS TO CREATE
POSITIVE TIPPING
POINTS
PROJECT SYNTHESIS, AUTHOR MARKUS SCHNEIDER, HUMANE FUTURE LAB 24
According to Meadows: the series of general leverage points or "points at which a system can
be intervened in", ordered from greatest to least relative effectiveness:
1. the mindset or paradigm from which the system emerged;
2. the objectives of the system;
3. the distribution of power over the rules of the system;
4. the rules of the system;
5. the flow of information;
6. material flows and nodes of material overlap;
7. drive of positive feedback loops;
8. regulation of negative feedback loops;
9. constants, parameters, numbers
More recently, examples of leverage points that can trigger positive tipping points in social-
ecological-technological systems have been referred to as sensitive intervention points
(Barbrook-Johnson et al., 2023; Mealy et al., 2023; Farmer et al., 2019; Hepburn et al.,
2020;) or social tipping points (Otto et al., 2020).

25. PROBLEM 11:
WE ARE NOT YET
FOCUSING ON SUPER
LEVERAGE POINTS TO
CREATE POSITIVE
TIPPING POINTS
PROJECT SYNTHESIS, AUTHOR MARKUS SCHNEIDER, HUMANE FUTURE LAB 25
"Coordinated action by coalitions ... between politics, business
and civil society can bring about positive turning points in politics,
business, technology, culture and behavior.
A focus on 'super leverage points' ... "Given their ubiquitous and
disruptive nature, digital technologies have the potential to be
leverage points that promote positive tipping points across
sectors, as well as super leverage points capable of catalyzing
tipping points across multiple sectors and promoting the creation
of inclusive economies and high-prosperity societies." (S.351)

28. TO OVERCOME THE META-CRISIS, HONEST, CORRECT
AND COMPLETE ANSWERS TO THE SIX CORE
QUESTIONS ARE ESSENTIAL
PROJECT SYNTHESIS, AUTHOR MARKUS SCHNEIDER, HUMANE FUTURE LAB 28
29. 1. WHAT?
SOURCE: BRANDON NORGAARD, HOW TO
CLASSIFY PROJECTS AIMED AT TACKLING
THE META-CRISIS
1.1 Ontology - What is the case? (Sensemaking)
How can we understand ourselves and the nature of the world
around us?
1.2 Epistemology - What do we know? (Overviews)
This also includes creating maps and understanding the area if
necessary.
1.3 Ideology - What do we believe in? (Belief systems)
We have deeply rooted ideologies that prevent us from reacting
to changes and challenges.
1.4 Aesthetics - What do we design? (Innovation)
We continue to rely on design processes that have outlived their
usefulness and are suicidal.
PROJECT SYNTHESIS, AUTHOR MARKUS SCHNEIDER, HUMANE FUTURE LAB 29
30. 2. WHO?
"We cannot solve our problems
with the same mindset with which
we created them".
Albert Einstein
2.1 Legitimacy (teams, experts) - Who should do it? Who has
authority and legitimacy in our lives and in our world? This includes
incoherence at the level of cultural agreements.
2.2 Identity (self-image) - Who are we? We need a greater sense of
"we".
PROJECT SYNTHESIS, AUTHOR MARKUS SCHNEIDER, HUMANE FUTURE LAB 30
31. 3. WHY?
SOURCE: BRANDON NORGAARD
3.1 Purpose - Why should we do all this? What is our purpose
in tackling these crises?
3.2 Complexity (analytical breakdowns) - Why is all this
complex stuff happening? We are not able to cut through the
noise and move to a higher level of consciousness and think
at a high enough level of abstraction to be able to act.
3.3 Imagination (creativity) - Why should anything ever be
different than it is now? Our imagination and creativity are
limited and are nipped in the bud.
3.4 Communication - Why should anyone understand what we
are saying and why should they be interested in joining
forces? We are not in a position to talk about these existential
threats in public and to be understood and taken seriously by
very many people.
PROJECT SYNTHESIS, AUTHOR MARKUS SCHNEIDER, HUMANE FUTURE LAB 31
32. 4. HOW?
SOURCE: BRANDON NORGAARD
4.1 Skills - How can one of these crises be managed? What skills
do we need? This includes our inability to act intelligently at the
level of the world.
4.2 Systems - How can we best reform our political, economic
and social systems? This also includes the dynamics of the world
system, through which our economic, political and social systems
are intertwined with psychology.
4.3 Coherence (unity) - How can we understand our past (as a
human collective) and move coherently into the future? We have
different memetic strains (modern, postmodern, traditional) and
our historical understanding is deeply confused and we lack the
ability to move coherently into the future together.
4.4 Education - How do we educate our children and our adult
citizens to be stewards of our world? Our education systems,
processes and skills are not able to adequately educate people
and prepare them for the changing world.
PROJECT SYNTHESIS, AUTHOR MARKUS SCHNEIDER, HUMANE FUTURE LAB 32
33. 5. WHERE?
SOURCE: BRANDON NORGAARD
"Broadly speaking, we are concerned with the entire planet
Earth, so our efforts must focus on the entire biosphere,
including every continent, every island, every ocean, every
lake and each of the Earth's many bioregions.
Some projects are not geographically limited and therefore
have the potential to have a positive impact worldwide.
Some projects are also targeted at specific geographical
regions, e.g. those based on regenerative financing or those
aimed at fundamental political reforms in certain countries
We would like to see vibrant and regenerative projects
launched in all regions of the world.
PROJECT SYNTHESIS, AUTHOR MARKUS SCHNEIDER, HUMANE FUTURE LAB 33
34. 6 WHEN?
THE THREE-HORIZON
MODEL
SOURCE: INTERNATIONAL FORUM FOR
FUTURE STUDIES (IFF), DANIEL-CHRISTIAN
WAHL
The three-horizon framework is a foresight tool that helps us to structure our thinking about
the future in such a way that innovation emerges.
It consists of three horizons: "business as usual/world in crisis" (H1), "viable world" (H3) and
"world in transition" (H2).
H2 stands for disruptive innovation. Some are absorbed by H1 without significant changes,
others build a bridge from H1 to H3 and have regenerative effects - these should be
supported.

35. THE 9 SKILLS TO IDENTIFY THE PROJECTS, KNOWLEDGE
AND PEOPLE NEEDED
PROJECT SYNTHESIS, AUTHOR MARKUS SCHNEIDER, HUMANE FUTURE LAB 35
36. THE 9 SKILLS:
OVERVIEW
1
• Problem-solving skills -> Which priority 1 problems do we actually have and how can we solve
them?
2
• Inner maturity -> How can we achieve the awareness to recognize and resolve them all?
3
• Imagination -> What solutions can we come up with if we are super-creative?
4
• Transformation frameworks -> What transformation systems have we already created? What
gaps do they have? How can we fill them? How can we combine the different approaches?
5
• Meta-Crisis Solution Frameworks -> What systems have we already created to solve the
polycrisis? What gaps do they have? How can we fill them? How can we combine the different approaches?
6
• Ecosystems of social change -> What systems for social change already exist? What gaps
do they have? How can we fill them? How can we connect the different approaches?
7
• Strategies for social change -> What do we need and what should we do to implement
these solutions successfully and as quickly as possible?
8
• Change Topics & Projects & Funds -> Which topics are the most important, which
projects are the most promising, where does the funding come from?
9
• Change teams and stakeholders -> Which teams should be formed, who belongs to
these teams and how can they receive the necessary support?

MATURITY

that help us achieve the UN Sustainable
Development Goals.
Background:
In 2015, the United Nations presented us with the
Sustainable Development Goals, a comprehensive
plan for a sustainable world by 2030. There is a
vision of what needs to happen, but progress
towards this vision has so far been disappointing. We
lack the intrinsic capacity to deal with our
increasingly complex environment and challenges.
Fortunately, modern research shows that the inner
skills we all need now can be developed. This was
the starting point for the Inner Development Goals
initiative."

IMAGINATION &
CREATIVITY
"The biggest crisis is the crisis of lack of
imagination".
"The fantasy sundial" by Rob Shorter
is a heuristic or creative tool for how we can
intentionally and skillfully rebuild the
imagination of people, organizations or
nations.
This is based on the conviction that we are
living in a time of declining imagination, at
the very moment in history when we need
our greatest imagination.
Improving imagination comes first, then we
explore all potential areas for positive
change.

ANALYSIS OF
TRANSFORMATION
FRAMEWORKS
Catalist Network's LIFT project (version 2022) is
a "meta-framework" for 50+ interconnected "big
picture frameworks" from around the world with
principles or goals for transformation - all "new"
ways of looking at the world, analyzing it and
finding solutions.
It encompasses mental models for new ways of
looking at the world - far beyond the issues
supported by governments and investors.
These include, for example, Theory U, Maslow's
hierarchy of needs, the doughnut economy, the
UN Sustainable Development Goals, the 8
forms of capital and much more.

ANALYZE NOVEL
ECOSYSTEMS OF
SOCIAL CHANGE
"We sense that a new ecosystem, or an
ecosystem of ecosystems, is emerging.
A growing number of people, organizations
and initiatives are pursuing alternative
approaches to social change.
These differ from and go beyond the more
established spaces of civil society and the
social economy.
The focus is on internal change, cultural
change and system change.
Another focus is on complexity, systems and
emergence, development models, spirituality
and practice, sensitization, different forms of
knowledge and global-local activism. Other
commonalities include an interest in
decentralized governance, new narratives,
alternative social imaginaries and
regenerative culture.

PROJECT SYNTHESIS, AUTHOR MARKUS SCHNEIDER, HUMANE FUTURE LAB 42
43. REQUIRED SKILL 6.2:
IDENTIFY RELEVANT
NEW APPROACHES TO
SOCIAL CHANGE
This ecosystem has a novel
approach to social change:
one that is simultaneously
paradigmatic, integrated and
committed.
Source: Life itself
What is new about the approach to social change?
The combination of paradigmatic, integrated and committed is important and unmistakable.
Paradigmatic
It strives for a change in the entire social paradigm both at the system level and at the
"ontological" level (worldview and narratives). This is in contrast to approaches that seek
either simple reform, e.g. improving market liberalism, or profound but single-issue
transformation, e.g. reshaping our economic structures of production and ownership, while
leaving intact the fundamental assumptions about who we are and how we relate to the
natural world.
Integrated
It highlights the need to integrate methods and pathways to change that span a variety of
domains and "places" (e.g. personal, cultural, institutional, etc.). A central and fundamental
BeiGame common to most (if not all) actors is the belief that inner and outer transformation
must go hand in hand. In terms of integralism, this is an "all-quadrant concept" that
prioritizes the neglected "inner" quadrants in particular.
Committed
Participants actively engage with wider society for the purposes of social transformation.
This distinguishes them from groups that do a lot of inner work but do not directly and
explicitly link it to broader social change, such as certain parts of the spiritual,
developmental and psychedelic communities.
PROJECT SYNTHESIS, AUTHOR MARKUS SCHNEIDER, HUMANE FUTURE LAB 43
44. REQUIRED SKILL 6.3:
ANALYZE, PRIORITIZE, MAP,
SUPPORT AND COMPLEMENT THE
NEW SOCIAL CHANGE ECOSYSTEM
New core features:
1 Post-individualism means
a) incorporating the positive characteristics of
individuality into group-centered thinking
and
b) an ecosystem-wide commitment to
networked and cooperative behavior.
2 Wholism - a more general holistic view, evident
in the use of terms such as metacrisis or
polycrisis. It leads to a problem analysis that
focuses on a larger whole, which leads to poor
social outcomes.
3 Counterculture is the desire to go beyond the
prevailing norms and narratives, to create new
norms and narratives, surprisingly also beyond
the rules of the progressive movement. It is
about changing the foundations, worldviews and
assumptions of our current order. In this sense, it
is a form of "cultural creation".
Source: Life itself
"We have defined ten main themes, each of which is
represented by a circle within the larger circle/theme of
social change. Below is a brief description of each
theme:
•Arts and culture - the role and use of arts and culture in
promoting social change.
•Community - The role of community in human life and in
promoting human well-being and approaches to building,
sustaining and leading communities.
•Development and growth - promoting personal
development and growth in emotional, psychological,
social and other inner skills.
•Ecology and the environment - questions about the
environment, including climate change, but also about
nature in general and man's relationship with it.
•The future of work - innovation in the world of work,
including new methods and approaches for corporate
and organizational management.
•Governance & Institutions - Development of new forms
of governance and institutions to support alternative
social paradigms.
•Politics and economics - analysis of existing political and
economic systems, development of political concepts
and development of new approaches to politics and
economics.
•Spirituality & religion - a world beyond the material and
rational.
•Technology & Blockchain - using technological
innovations, including blockchain, to promote social
change and support new social systems.
•Well-being and health - improving quality of life through
the physical, psychological, environmental and social
determinants of health and well-being".

negative consequences. Human
needs form a solid foundation for

61. SYSTEM THINKER
"It is very easy to fall into the trap of
seeing social change as a linear process:
Identify a problem, propose a solution to
that problem, implement the solution
(usually in the form of a project or
program).
Sometimes this can be effective, but
most of the time the challenges we are
trying to solve are much messier and
more complex than this.
Systems thinking requires a change of
mindset, away from the linear view and
towards the bigger picture.
A systems thinker uses this way of
thinking to penetrate and unravel the
complexity of social change."

(markets, governments,
institutions, communities) to
make them fairer and more
efficient, with both new additions
and entirely new solutions.

65. THE GLOBAL SYNTHESIS - THE
YET INVISIBLE,
UNCONNECTED NETWORK
Tens of thousands of people around
the world are already working on
new solutions.
Until now, they have often been
invisible, some even neglected,
isolated, underfunded or
marginalized.
Some of them are not aware of the
importance of their projects, they
are not aware of similar projects on
the other side of the world, they are
not yet networking, pooling their
resources or sharing their findings.
These people, their knowledge and
their ecosystems should be the
focus of the next steps of Project
Synthesis which aims to accelerate
and support their development.

sides of the Delphic Cube:
1. sustainability as a priority
2. on the basis of democracy
3. improved through education
4. enlightened through inner
transformation
5 Driven by science and technology
6 Inspired by art
& Triggered by integration
At the World Human Forum in Greece in 2022, the Delphic Cube was presented as a new tool for finding
meaning and a "new interdisciplinary holistic approach and methodology based on collective intelligence".
It "aims to trigger a different way of thinking" and "strives to move us from fragmentation to integration,
breaking down silos and proposing a holistic, interdisciplinary approach where life is always at the center".
It is the result of a collective intelligence process developed by the participants of the 3rd Delphic Meeting of
the World Human Forum in April 2019. Funding: unknown.

GAME B (2020-)
"Game A is everything mankind
has done in the last ten thousand
years. Now we are reaching its
hard limits. The existing order is
collapsing.
Game B is what comes next."
Self-promotion:
"The various systems we have tried in the twentieth century are not able to cope
with the new crises we are facing.
We urgently need to develop new solutions while retaining the best of the old.
Many options are already being tested (albeit often without sufficient funding and
broad support).
Concepts such as cosmolocalism, new economic zones, the regeneration
movement, charter cities and an understanding of game theory can point the way
to the future, but need to be tested.
In the Game B community, we experiment with these and other things.
Nobody really knows yet what will really work or how the next world order will
develop. We have to try out every good idea, find out which one actually works and
then expand it. We have already started.
Come and game with us as we learn and get smarter together. "

PROJECT SYNTHESIS, AUTHOR MARKUS SCHNEIDER, HUMANE FUTURE LAB 75
76. WHY PROJECT SYNTHESIS?
GOALS:
MORE TRANSPARENCY
MORE COMBINED EFFORTS
BETTER RESULTS
SOME MAIN PROBLEMS WHICH CAN BE ADRESSED BY PROJECT SYNTHESIS :
- No overview: Which projects already exist?
- Wrong priorities: solutions are developed according to the preferences of funders and founders, not according to
global urgency (market niche potential vs. potential for positive mass change)
- Lack of coordination: no one is driving the transformation process forward, creating networks, collecting information
and data (competition vs. non-rivalry)
- Invisibility = inaccessibility: Thousands of great topics and projects are completely invisible to the general public
and potential supporters because there is no media that has the people to find them, evaluate them and make them better
known (visibility)
- "Loner" pioneers: Exotic indie projects are "left alone" and try to find solutions. Researchers and founders have to "do
everything themselves" and work for free most of the time. (Nerd power vs. groupthink)
- "Goodwashing" / "Greenwashing" / "Controlled Opposition" / "Somebody is already doing
this" excuses: As part of greenwashing activities, token projects similar to those needed at a global level are set up by large
companies or lobbyists, but are often vastly underfunded and implemented without clear goals or public progress reports or
are plain „alibi“ projects (e.g. the 1 Billion Trees project)
- Hidden ecosystem: niche projects there is no complete overview of related activities worldwide, their status, their
experiences, their success factors, the people behind them, etc.
- Lack of manpower: Projects have no permanent employees and teams or opportunities to find employees
- Unfunded research and development: Projects do not have sufficient funds to conduct research (including at
meta level), develop, test and professionally market their results.
- Educational gaps: The projects have no access to relevant literature, scientific papers, etc.
- Silo thinking and acting: When a project is funded by one source, it usually stays in their silo to complete the
project.
- Fear of Change: The human well-being, interdisciplinary and/or paradigm-shifting potential of their research often
makes it even harder for them to obtain funding

- Financing of research & development, roll-out & mainstreaming
- Add-on funding to break silos: If an external project is funded by another source, add-on
funding enables the formation of a joint add-on project to achieve a better result.
RECRUITMENT PLATFORM:
- Recruitment platform: a place where current and future projects can be found and where
interested people can add their areas of expertise and interests to find new projects to
participate in

81. PROJECT PHASES
HOW WE MULTIPLY & SUPPORT
WORLDWIDE EXPERTS WHO ARE
ALREADY WORKING ON SOLUTIONS
The preparatory phase of the Synthesis project
lasted 7 years. The result is a unique collection
of expert profiles, book references and notes on
almost all relevant topics.
In phase 1, which begins now, this data is
analysed, clustered, visualized, described and
cross-referenced to create an overview. This
facilitates communication, helps with the
formation of global teams, the formulation of
hypotheses, the allocation of tasks and the
definition of product development goals.
In phase 2, the global teams work on
scientifically or practically proving the
hypotheses of phase 2 or developing and
implementing prototypes for the reality check.
In phase 3, the successful projects are rolled
out worldwide.
Phase 1: Data
Collection
•Topic and expert identification and clustering
•Data analysis, completion and prioritization
•Product design hypotheses and objectives
Phase 2: Project
implementation
•Establishment of R&D project teams (2-3
competitive teams per topic)
•Scientific research
•Prototype development and test run
Phase 3: Global
Market Launch &
Mainstreaming
•Worldwide implementation of winning projects
•Continuous improvement
•Global introduction of mass media and education

83. PROCESS OVERVIEW
PROJECT SYNTHESIS:
USE OF EXISTING
ALTERNATIVES
WORLDWIDE
By radically and thoroughly
analyzing the current systemic
factors and then comparing them
to our ideal goals and the existing
alternatives, we can define a
process to create the solutions we
want as a global community.
Identification of all relevant
topics: "What most
determines how we live"
(investments)
Identification of all systemic
determinants:
"what makes them so
dominant today" (shareholders,
lobbyists)
Formulation of new ideal system goals:
"What should prevail tomorrow?" (well-
being)
Option 1: Upgrading existing
main solutions
Option 2: Improvement of
existing alternative
approaches
Option 3: Development of
new alternative approaches
Evaluation of all existing options
& Definition of new potential alternatives
for the new objectives (project synthesis)
Fail-safe development: development and
testing of at least 2 functioning alternatives
at local level
Mainstreaming the better option
Prioritization of topics and possible
solutions
Forming teams and covering resource
requirements
