Inequality In Kenya Case Study
Country case study part 2
Country Kenya
Inequality, poverty and social protection: inequality in Kenya has decreased a lot in recent years there
are many types of inequality in Kenya such as income inequality, life expectancy inequality,
unemployment inequality between men and woman and education inequality. For example in Kenya
education inequality is good nearly every child in the central province has an education and attends
school however only one out of every 3 children in the north eastern province attend primary school
which is still low. Another inequality is the unemployment inequality between men and woman there
is 274,000 unemployed women compared to 73,000 men. , F. V. (2012) Heifer international | charity

There are many types of poverty in Kenya such as rural poverty and unemployment poverty. Although
Kenya s soil and land is the most favourable for long term work in east Africa but rural poverty in
Kenya is also strongly linked to environmental concerns so crops are damaged due to poor water
management and climate change is one of the big major factor of Kenya as I mentioned in my first
part of my country case study the climate changes rapidly in Kenya it has rainy season and dry
seasons which both damage crops and land. Another thing that causes poverty in Kenya is unfair trade
barriers, trading is a form of partnership and trading in Kenya is not equal on many terms with other
countries Kenya export coffee beans from their country but there is an unfair trade between other
countries Poverty in Kenya unemployment, child labour HIV (2003) Available at:

right for all citizens the commission for Africa union identified social transfers as a key tool in

Weather The Migration Hypothesis
The reading and the lecture discuss weather the migration hypothesis is true for the edomontosaurs the
elephant like dinosaurs to prove the North Slope as their habitat. The lecturer puts forth three aspects,
each of which has casts doubt on the three points presented in the reading passage. To begin with, the
professor avers that at the time of the edomontosaurs the temperature in the North slopes was warmer
than ours. She says that the warmer temperature helps to have good vegetation in summer. Even the
dead plants were enough to feed the edomontosaurs in the North slopes during winter. Thus the
edomontosaurs did not need to migrate to south the warm place. This directly challenges the reading
assertion that the food requirement for the

Assimilation In Mike Resnick s Kirinyaga
A common story told in history is one society having a technological advantage over another society,
and imposing their will either through conquest or assimilation. In Mike Resnick s novel Kirinyaga,
the topic of European colonial assimilation is explored through a tale of a group of Kikuyu settlers on
a new planet named Kirinyaga. The people of Kirinyaga experience the assimilation in three ways
through direct control, cultural examples, and technological temptation.
The people of Kirinyaga are only allowed to live on the planet, thanks to the charter established by
Earth governments. This allows the Earth government to exercise a certain level of control over the
inhabitants. Although they do not directly have the ability to shape the ... Show more content on

Korbia posses a computer that allows him to communicate with Maintenance to ensure that rains come
at the right time each year. This computer also has a huge repository of knowledge about the modern
world. Korbia, following tradition, attempts to teach a young boy about being a witch doctor, in doing
so he teaches him about the computer system. Upon being exposed to this, the boy begins to expose
the stories to the village, making them distrust Korbia. This reaches its breaking point when a doctor
arrives from Earth to treat an injured maintenance pilot. Her medicine is able to relive many of the
maladies that Korbia could not cure. This leads to more and more of the villagers going to maintence
for supplies, and care. In all this destroys the traditional culture of the Kikuyu and leads to Kirinyaga
become European. This parallels the destruction of tradition in culture after the European colonization,
and the growth of urban centers in the 21st century.
Africa is a different continent thanks to colonization, mostly thanks to shifts in culture caused by the
direct control, cultural examples, and technological temptation. Resnick examines this phenomenon
and truly shows just how much we can leave behind while looking for the

Essay on Purpose Driven Church Book Review
Rick Warren in his book the purpose driven church was mandated to attempt to put in print the story
of Saddleback church. From shear curiosity be both Jew and gentile most religious and business
leaders had at least a cursory interest in how a church grew to 10,000 attendees. Call it divine
intervention, a killer marketing plan, being at the right place at the right time, blind luck or a
combination of them all. Spending 25 years in corporate America I view Rick Warrens approach to
growing a church (or anything for that matter) as spot on. His due diligence (neighborhood survey)

Analysis Of My Healing Food
My healing food
Food is both biological and social fuel. Consuming food not just enables energy, but tells a lot about
human s identity. In the context of migration, cooking becomes a particularly significant process. All
the migrants belong to certain ethnic groups, membership of which they express through food choices.
This concept is broadly discussed in the memoir Me in Place, and the Place in Me by Parvathi Raman.
Raman tells about her migration from India to the UK. In this regard, she recalls how her mother
learnt to cook in the new country. Even though they made a decision not to prepare English dishes,
some foreign foods entered their diet. She describes the culinary experience, which involved the
search for available ingredients

How Did Leonardo Da Vinci Change The World
Simplicity is the ultimate sophistication . Leonardo da Vinci was a quiet man, but is well known for
his intelligence. He was a man of few words, and never bragged about his intelligence. He let his work
do the talking for him. Leonardo da Vinci was one of the world s most incredible minds. He changed
the word with his scientific discoveries, many inventions, and beautiful art. Da Vinci was born on
April 15, 1452 in Vinci, Italy. He was born out of wedlock to Ser Piero and a peasant women. His
father was a well respected notary, but was never involved in Leonardo s life ( Renaissance Man ).
Leonardo only received a general education, which included reading, writing, and basic math. His
teachers and mother quickly realized his potential, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Renaissance was a new age in Europe. It means rebirth , which was a demonstration of what was
going on at the time. People began to explore the world, develop new artistic styles, and make
advances in math and science ( Renaissance ). Leonardo was the leader of the pack. He is the man
behind the brush of some of the most iconic paintings ever, including The Last Supper , Mona Lisa ,
and Vitruvian Man. He was commissioned by Ludovico in 1495 to begin the last supper. The painting
took da Vinci nearly three years, and shows the moment went Jesus notifies his Twelve Apostles that
one of them would soon betray him. Da Vinci does an incredible job of capturing the intensity of the
moment. He demonstrates his brilliance with his masterful strokes that portray the facial expressions
and body language of everyone in the room ( Leonardo da Vinci ). Leonardo spent a lot of time
examining the human body to try perfecting his art. He had an acute understanding of proportions and
movements of the human body. In his painting, Vitruvian Man , it is clear that he understands more
than most humans of that time period. Vitruvian Man states that the average man is nearly two meters
tall, and his outstretched arms are equal to the length of his body ( The Complete Works ). In the
Mona Lisa , uses some of his own techniques to make the painting extremely realistic. He treated
objects as 3 D figures, and used shadows, instead of lines, when outlining figures. Nobody knows who
Mona Lisa depicts, but that is beside the fact. It is easily one of the most famous paintings of all time.
Using his knowledge, da Vinci made his paintings more realistic and defined. He is also credited with
developed the techniques known as chiaroscuro and sfumato. These techniques involve using shadows
and subtle gradations in the paint. These techniques, along with his overall understanding

Horse Primates Compare And Contrast
When we see an animal, do we ever think about what is going on deeper than the eye can see? Do you
ever think about all the things firing inside to keep things in balance and the animal functioning?
Horses and primates have many similarities as well as differences.
Starting with the skeletal system, the skulls on a primate and a horse are quite different. A primate s
skull usually lacks the large sagittal crest (Cavendish, 2010, pg.10). Just like a horse, they also have
very powerful jaws for chewing their food. They have very pronounced brow bones, and a large
forehead. However, in horses and in primates the head is very proportioned with the whole body.
Horses foreheads are typically flat and broad, while a primate s skull is quite smaller and more
rounded. Primates have a very flexible and short neck, while ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

They consume foods such as fruits, leaves, bark, stems, insects, and even other primates. Nothing is
off limits (Cavendish, 2010, pg.19). Horses on the other hand are herbivores, so they only eat plant
based foods. Horses have hindgut fermenters, which mean that they only have one stomach, but it
contains four different compartments to digest food. This contains the reticulum, rumen, omasum, and
the abomasum which is the true stomach. They also have a flap that hangs over the distal end of the
esophagus which prevents them from vomiting. Primates on the other hand, can vomit. Since horses
have hindgut fermenters, digestion is broken down into multiple segments. Those segments include
the cecum, ventral colon, and the dorsal colon (Miyaji, 2014). Primates digest their food a little
differently. There aren t many compartments the food has to travel through. Food travels down the
esophagus into the stomach, where it is met by stomach acid and food is broken down and passed
through the small and large intestine, nutrients are absorbed, and the waste is

The Ethical Ethics Of The Tuskegee Syphilis Study
Over the years human experiments has developed the knowledge of human physiology and
psychology. However, the use of human s subject in research have to become a controversial issue in
our society. It has become a debatable questions whether it s ethical or not. There has to be a limit to
where certain experiments can be implemented on humans such as trials for drugs and social
experiments. There are moral principles that guides our research into deciding what is right or wrong .
This principles is governed by two philosophical theory which is deontology and utilitarianism.
However, they need to balance the risk and benefit for the participant associated with the research.
This paper will not only focus on the breach of ethical conduct of human experimentation but also
introduce different views from Henry Beecher and Jay Katz about the ethics in human research. One
of the human experimentation study that breach ethical conduct is the Tuskegee syphilis study, which
was conducted in 1932 in Macon County, Alabama. Medical researcher recruited African American
male subjects diagnosed with syphilis, they targeted people from poor and rural counties. The main
purpose of the study was to acquire information about the natural history of untreated syphilis. The
United States public health service initiated a program to diagnose and treat 10, 000 African American
for syphilis 1(pg 212). But unfortunately they didn t have enough money for the treatments. The main

A New Type Of Music EDM EDM is a real music. Since 1980, electronic music first appeared in

EDM had been widely used in many singer songs, for instance, Not today , a song from a Korea s boy
band, also a famous song let me love you , which made by both DJ Snake and Jutin Bieber. EDM is
not just a club music. However, cause the electronic music doesn t involve any instrument, some
critics oppose the idea that EDM is a genre of music. The argument about EDM has been sustained for

As a popular music in nowadays, EDM doesn t involve any instrument in it. In people s common
sense, musics are all create with instruments, can EDM also count as a music, which break up the
tradition. The definition for music shouldn t be that confined. In the ancient time, there s no
instrument , people knocked desks, bowls, bows as the beats for their songs. With time elapsing,
instrument been created, and defined as instrument. Let s say instrument is a thing which give people
beats and complete the song. As well as electronic device also can give people beats and complete
songs, electronic dance music can also be a music. I had read a article about whether EDM can be a
genre music. In this article, author mentioned a important idea that who or which group of people can
decided the genre of music. In my opinion, no one can decided it. Music is a thing about emotion,
everyone have different emotion. We can t say somebody s emotion is wrong. The things is, when we
heard a song, a group of people may have the same felling about it, they may like it and become fans,
they may not like it, then just skip it and find another song they like. We have no right to deny

Theodore Roethke Essays
Theodore Roethke
Roethke was a great poet, the successor to Frost and Stevens in modern American poetry, and it is the
measure of his greatness that his work repays detailed examination (Parini 1). Theodore Roethke was
a romantic who wrote in a variety of styles throughout his long successful career. However, it was not
the form of his verse that was important, but the message being delivered and the overall theme of the
work. Roethke was a deep thinker and often pondered about and reflected on his life. This
introspection was the topic of much of his poetry. His analysis of his self and his emotional
experiences are often expressed in his verse. According to Ralph J. Mills Jr., this self interest was the

Roethke married Beatrice O Connell, a former student at Bennington College, in 1953. Roethke
published many volumes of poetry throughout his career. His first volume, Open House, published in
1941, was filled with images of growth and decay and had short unrhymed verses (Encarta).
According to Allan Seager, most of the reviews were good and those that contained adverse criticisms
tacitly acknowledged that it was the work of a genuine poet and not a beginner (Contemporary
Authors 476). His next two volumes, The Lost Son and Other Poems (1948) and Praise to the End!
(1951) were expressions of his explorations of his interior self. After reading The Lost Son and Other
Poems, Richard Blessing claimed To my mind, the transformation of Theodore Roethke from a poet of
lyric resourcefulness, technical proficiency, and ordered sensibility to a poet of indomitable
creativeness and audacity, difficult, heroic, moving, and profoundly disquieting is one of the most
remarkable in American history (Contemporary Authors 478). Roethke received a Pulitzer Prize in
1953 for The Waking. Words for the Wind (1958) won both the National Book Award and the
Bollingen Prize. The Far Field, which was published posthumously in 1964, won the National Book

competencies. A company can completely control, and fully utilize its strengths to gain benefits for the
company. Airasia Berhad has its own strengths that enable itself to become more competitive in the
airline industry.
2.1.1 Strong Connection With Outsiders
Airasia Berhad has a very strong and cooperative management team. The company acquires executive
management members team with different background from different industries professionals and ex

the company has received a lot of complaints about the flight delays due to mechanical problem or

quality of services of AirAsia Berhad. That is, customer feedbacks are being ignored usually. The poor
quality of service might cause the customers to lose loyalty and hence fleeing to other competitors

Interplay Of Conflict And Deception In Interpersonal...
Two parts of interpersonal communication go hand in hand are conflict and deception. One can lead to
the other and vice versa. Most people try to avoid both conflict and deception, but people must realize
that they have benefits and are a reality in everyday interactions. The interplay of conflict and
deception specifically harnessed my attention over the past few chapters. Interpersonal conflict is an
expressed struggle between two interdependent parties who perceive incompatible goals, scarce
resources, and interference from the other party in achieving their goals (Floyd, 2011, p. 350). To fully
understand conflict, the definition can be broken down further. As Kory Floyd (2011) describes,
conflict is an expressed struggle. A conflict is not fully present until one party s feelings are aware to
the other party. This can be done through both verbal and nonverbal behaviors. Conflict occurs
between interdependent parties as Floyd (2011) explains. A disagreement becomes a conflict if both
parties depend on each other in some way. For example, the relationship between a child and their
parents is a relationship that has high interdependence. If there is no dependence between the two
parties, Floyd (2011) does not consider it interpersonal conflict, which I personally found interesting.
The next part of the definition declares that conflict is about the goals the parties perceive see as
incompatible. Incompatible, means that both party s needs cannot be met. However, Floyd

What Is The View That In Domestic Policy Wolsey Was...
Do you agree with the view that in domestic policy, Wolsey was successful as the king s chief
minister?
When answering this essay I am going to measure Wolsey s success on his ability to please Henry. The
different categories which I am judging Wolsey s success are; finance, religion, law and order,
parliament and government and admin.
The first domestic policy category I am going to look at is government and admin. One of the
successful acts that Wolsey achieved in this category was centralising the local government. Doing
this brought things into the central control of the king and restored his power. Wolsey also began to
break up local magnate s power, this then transferred the more power over to Henry rather than the
magnates. Both these ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

sure Henry took care of people religiously also. Wolsey allowed Henry to gain some control of the
church long before the break with Rome, this pleased Henry and was a success as his chief minister.
However, the church was in need of reform and although Wolsey talked about doing it he never did,
Wolsey was a failure in the aspect of Church and Religion as he did nothing, which to the people made
it look like Henry did nothing also. Although it may look like Henry did nothing, most of the blame
was on Wolsey. Wolsey allowed Henry to gain some control and helped with his title of defender of
the faith therefore I think that religion was a

Critical Essay on, The Fall of the House of Usher.
He approached the house wearily, noting with growing horror its advanced, albeit subtle, state of

Poe s gothic tale has inspired generations of readers with his unique style of rich detail and sheer
horror. In, The Fall of the House of Usher one finds the house mysteriously connected with its
inhabitants. As they slowly fall into a state of decay, both mental and physical, so also does its
structure weaken, eventually collapsing into the tarn in which it was standing, as its tenants fall prey to
the strain of body and mind. Without them, the house cannot stand.
In the beginning of the story, Poe describes the bleak condition of the ... Show more content on

He spends his days painting the most bizarre pictures, like that of a deep tunnel lit from within by
invisible sources of colored light; playing pieces he composes extemporaneously on his guitar, then
reciting to these melodies incoherent lyrics revealing a mind in torment. As his sister s condition
worsens and finally is ended by her death, he becomes almost maniacal in his pursuit of the fantastic.
Both the narrator and Roderick are horrified by her appearance of life, even triumphing over her
disease, and wonder as they lock her in an old keep for a fortnight. Poe does not fail to inspire within
the reader a sense of awe in her death, nor does he spare the lurid details of the terror lurking within
this burial scene of the lady Madeline. And so it is the beginning of the end.
Soon Roderick takes to pacing all about the dark house, his mental condition deteriorating no less
rapidly than his physical; and even that has nearly reached its last stages of deterioration. The pallor of
his countenance had assumed, if possible, a more ghastly hue but the luminousness of his eye had
utterly gone out. Gazing upon vacancies for hours, speaking in tremulous quavering tones it appears to
the narrator as if he is concealing something which weighs so heavily on his mind that he is slowly
going mad. Then one stormy, sleepless night, the narrator relates how the seemingly needless

Aztec Downfall
The Aztecs, a once great civilization from 1519 to 1521. Their city was Tenochtitlan, which was built
on a lake and adjusted to hold the growing population. At that time, Tenochtitlan was the largest city
in the world with over 15 million people. In 1519, the Spanish overtook the Aztecs and left
Tenochtitlan in ruins. Mexico City is now built on top of that area and only a few of the Aztec
descendants carry on the vibrant culture and language. Nevertheless, the Aztecs made contributions to
the world that we still use today. More importantly, they thrived because of their intelligence, and
talent. What claimed their downfall was their foolishness and being uncivilized.

soon, but their contributions last more than a lifetime. What I admire the most from the Aztecs was
their determination for prosperity. They improvised a way to make a city on a lake and also made their
own irrigation system. Their use of mandatory, universal education proves how advanced in education
they were at that period of time. They taught kids at an early age their pictographs to keep records,
astronomy for their use of the calendar, discipline for order, and trade for prosperity. It is no wonder

Themes In For Whom The Bells Tolls
We all are put to the test by having to make sacrifices like a life or death situation. Although the
majority of those choices may be for the greater good, some can hurt others. We are put to the task,
and we have several obstacles in our way, and it is our duty to accomplish that task. In Ernest
Hemingway s For Whom the Bells Tolls, the character of Robert Jordan risks his life to fight fascism
to do his duty, take care of Maria and to wash away his father suicide.
To begin with, Robert Jordan takes care of the woman he loves, Maria. Ever since Robert Jordan went
with the reclusive group in the mountain, the two of them had empathy of love towards each other.
Robert Jordan tries to reject the adulation they have for each other because he thinks that after the
bridge is blown, they will not see each other anymore. Maria refuses to think that and shows all her
love towards him. Soon Robert Jordan seems to care more about Maria and uses their passion for each
other as a distraction from the war. Hewson states that Jordan comes to realize that he and Maria are
making an alliance against death through their love for each other (6). Their love for each other
designates them forget about everything, and all they want to do is be together. The alliance against
death that they have is significant in the story. Being together assembles them to feel powerful and
gives them both hope and strength during their hard times there. This helps out both of these

for women in 1950s and how men looked down on them. But women finally had a chance coming out

struggle trying to get there message out over the men, but compared to earlier years this was the first
time they were even given a chance. Mirror, Courage, and The Explorer all display 1 message on
prevailing and finding your true self. Certainly, Mirror Challenges a woman who is aging and
realizing she is no longer the young beautiful being she once was. The women is left wondering why it
is she is old and is sad that it happened to her, when she was younger she felt invincible. The poem

Skeletal Muscle Analysis
The solid framework is the body s system of tissues that controls development both of the body and
inside it, (for example, the heart s pumping activity and the development of nourishment through the
gut). Development is created through the constriction and unwinding of particular muscles.
The muscles of the body are isolated into two primary classes: skeletal (willful) and smooth
(automatic). Skeletal muscles are connected to the skeleton and move different parts of the body. They
are called willful on the grounds that an individual controls their utilization, for example, in the
flexing of an arm or the raising of a foot. There are around 650 skeletal muscles in the entire human
body. Smooth muscles are found in the stomach and intestinal dividers, vein and corridor dividers, ...

Like skeletal muscles, heart muscles are striated. However like smooth muscles, they are automatic,
controlled by the autonomic sensory system.
The longest muscle in the human body is the Sartorius (purported sar TOR ee us). It runs starting from
the waist over the front of thigh to the knee. Its design is to flex the hip and knee. The biggest muscle
in the body is the gluteus Maximus (professed GLUE tee us MAX si mus; bottom muscles). It moves
the thighbone far from the body and straightens out the hip joint. Skeletal muscles are presumably the
most well known kind of muscle. They are the muscles that throb after strenuous work or activity.
Skeletal muscles make up around 40 percent of the body s mass or weight. They balance out joints,
help look after carriage, and give the body its general shape. They likewise utilize a lot of oxygen and
supplements from the blood supply. Skeletal muscles are appended to bones by extreme, stringy
connective tissue called tendons. Tendons are rich in the protein collagen, which is masterminded in a
wavy manner so it can extend and give extra length at the muscle bone

To His Coy Mistress
To his Coy Mistress by Andrew Marvell is about a man s lust for a woman. The narrator uses terms
like coy to describe his mistress. He also describes sex by using the word ball. The narrator also
compares their love to a vegetable that is steadily growing. The narrator uses words wisely in his
appeal to his lover. The narrator is trying to rush her into making a decision about loving him. The
narrator called his love interest coy because she wouldn t commit to him. The definition of coy is
affectedly and often flirtatiously shy or modest, the narrator seems to be growing tired of the woman
not committing to him. The narrator is trying to tell the woman that he will love her forever hoping
that it will make her fall for him once and for all, My vegetable love should grow Vaster than empires,
and more slow (Marvell). The narrator is lusting for this woman and will stop at nothing until she is
his. The narrator wants his love with his mistress to grow steadily until it reaches its climax. The
narrator is willing to spend time with his mistress while falling deeper and deeper in love. The narrator
compares his love to a vegetable because vegetables grow slowly and steadily just like his love. But
there is one downfall to his statement, vegetables only grow seasonally and once they hit ... Show

emergency room visits, 38,000 annual admissions, and performing over 14,800 inpatient surgeries and

In fear of these neighboring facilities luring away their physicians for good, NYU administrators paid
the medical center s physician s salaries through the end of January 2013, on the condition they would
not take another position (NYU Langone Medical Center, 2014). Repairing the damage was a long
and very expensive process. In mid November of that year, NYU Langone reopened some of their
outpatient care services. In late December, the hospital reopened its inpatient and surgical services,
resulting in over 20,000 workers returning to their jobs. Eighteen months after the hurricane the
medical center s emergency department reopened, three times its former size after a major renovation
and expansion, on April 24, 2014. In addition to the physical damage of the medical center, NYU s
medical research was destroyed in the storm. The loss of power and flooding wiped out years of
cancer and neuroscience research. The medical center lost thousands of research animals, cells,
tissues, enzymes, antibodies, and DNA strands crucial to scientific research. Resulting in hundreds of
thousands of dollars and years of work ravaged. Hurricane Sandy inflicted unprecedented damage to

The Media And Gender Stereotypes In The Media
Incredibly stereotypical
The media as a whole is surrounded and intertwined with many stereotypical views involving gender
roles. The biggest reason why there are norms in the first place is because it makes life relatively
simpler and effortless. The majority of society tends to follow this ideology which is not wrong to
have a simple life but it should not include gender norms because it creates too much chaos between
the sexes. This leads to the predator/prey mindset that Julia Serano speaks about in her Article Why
Nice Guys Finish Last that makes men into predators and females seen as whores and virgins. Biased
gender roles can be seen almost anywhere, like movies, advertisements, music and television shows.
In music, artists sing creatively standing for and against gender stereotypes. Movies are huge
influencers of gender stereotyping as well. Rappers are usually the ones to rap disturbingly about
females and Disney movies frequently encourage traditional gender roles to be seen as a norm for
society. For example, the Wu Tang Clan sing about respecting women in one of their songs this
illustrates how most rappers encourage sexual abuse or being sexual predators in their lyrics the Wu
Tang Clan reject this stereotypical view on women. In the movie the Incredibles, the family have
biased super powers that reflect the gender stereotype view of men and women in the real world. The
Wu Tang Clan rejects gender norms by preaching against predator/prey mindset through

Essay on The Life and Writing of Liza Ward
The Life and Writing of Liza Ward
Liza Ward I imagine wore pearls and a sweet grin; she wrote of abiding emptiness. An image of neatly
trimmed edges in navy blue with long brunette waves of classic beauty, her words echo with hollow
despair and the impossibility of overcoming the past. Answering the phone for this interview, a high
pitched, girlie voice chirps Hi, how are you? with genuine interest. Her novel speaks from the other
side, from the silence of a happy life.
After reading her first novel, Outside Valentine, I expected a measured, soft voice that would stretch
around the ball of emptiness at the center of all that is human, a voice that arcs in stabbing, eloquent
tones, speaking from the beyond of some enlightened ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The novel grew out of her need to make meaning out of something that was so brutal and meaningless.
Reading factual accounts of the murders wasn t enough for Ward; she needed to write the story and
live the experience to make sense of it all. In her own words, I had to live it, to write it. When you re
writing a novel, you re so inside the story that you can t step back.
Ward describes truth as limiting when trying to really get inside and understand something, It didn t
seem like I could say what I wanted to say by telling a non fictional account. The novel is told from
the point of view of three narrators affected by the Starkweather murders. In 1991, Lowell Bowman s
continued inability to cope with his parents murder is jeopardizing his marriage and family. In 1962,
14 year old Susan Hurst is isolated and lonely, abandoned by her manic depressive mother and
obsessing over Lowell, a victim of the Starkweather murders. In 1958, Caril Ann Fugate rebels against
her parents and the extreme poverty of her life, accepting the love and devotion of the handsome
Charles Starkweather. Many of the details of the story come from fact, although Ward insists: when
something that really happened inspired me, I put it in, but I never felt like I had to be grounded in
truth.
Interestingly, Ward says that writing the Caril Ann parts of the novel came easiest to her, which was
really weird, because I mean in essence, she was

The Potato Chapter Summary
The Potato
(Solanum Tuberosum)
The desire for which this plant represents is control and this seemingly simple plant has a history of
providing control. A history that goes back almost 8000 years. The human need to have things in order
whether its fear of the unknown complexities of nature, or perhaps the beauty we see in neat, ordered
rows, or more simply the control over starvation, whichever it is humans want the control. Pollan
often refers to this human trait when comparing the Apollonian and Dionysian model throughout the
book. The Apollonian aesthetic order in humans and nature s Dionysian uncertainty as disorder is
inevitable. Humans rely on a handful of species in those neat, ordered rows that somehow give the
illusion that nature is manageable. In this search to control we created monocultures. Ireland showing
us just how dangerous that can be with the potato blight in 1845. Yet we continue creating
monocultures. In our search for control we have instead become dependent. Dependent upon among

Losing Weight for Wrestlers Are you a wrestler that needs to lose weight? Here s some easy and
effective ways. Losing weight fast might be hard, but there are a few tricks that can make it a breeze.
Exercise is one of the quickest and easiest ways to lose weight; and it s favorable to you. If you re
exercising at practice, raise the temperature in the room. This will get you sweating more. Another
way to obtain more sweat is to wear sweats and a sweatshirt (possibly multiple if you need to shed
many pounds) and tape the ends of them to lock in the heat. Also, keep the hood up. During the weigh

Explain The Barriers Of Effective Communication In Healthcare
How Barriers to Effective Communication in Healthcare Can be Overcome
This essay will begin by exploring what communication is and how it is defined. The components
needed for communication to be effective and why effective communication is an important aspect of
healthcare. It will then go on to discuss barriers to effective communication and how they can be
overcome.
Communication is the process by which information is exchanged between a sender and receiver,
resulting in a common understanding. The word communication originates from the Latin word
communis meaning common. Therefore without a common understanding being achieved from an
information exchange, communication has not taken place. It has become recognised that quality of
communication in the healthcare setting is as important as practical skills and clinical knowledge and
a vital component of an integrated approach to practice in healthcare. It has been demonstrated that
understanding the needs and desires of the client, putting client choices and ... Show more content on

While the sender of a communication has to consider the language and medium used to send
information in the best way they can, to be fully understood as intended, they also have to develop the
skill to listen and receive information communicated back from the receiver. The author, George
Bernard Shaw wrote the greatest problem with communication is the illusion that it has been
accomplished . Feedback is vital in making sure information has been understood as intended and a
common understanding has been achieved, if this is not the case, it provides the sender with an
opportunity to respond with further information to increase clarity and understanding. Summarising
(providing a verbal summary of information gathered or received) can be used throughout
communication to confirm that mutual understanding has been achieved and to correct any

The Effects Of Television On A Stellar Binge Watching Show...
causing the viewers mind to drift. Whereas if shows are short with less complex plot lines I find
myself inclined to watch the next episode, after all what s another twenty minutes of my life. This
essentially minimizes the risk and time commitment for the viewer, cutting their new planned viewing
time in half. With shorter episodes, audience members can still experience an escape from their
everyday lives and be entertained without having to dedicated a large amount time to their television
watching habits. This allows fans to reap the same benefits from watching a longer show, without
having to give up precious time.
While instant gratification and lesser time commitments are two key factors in determining a stellar
binge watching show ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Watching television in the traditional way, like on a television set in a shared space can bring up many
distractions. External factors like watching a show with other people or background noise can create
distractions that drastically effect a viewers watching experience, thus decreasing their investment in
the show. This is why I much prefer to watch television shows on a computer or tablet with
headphones on. This promotes escapism and decreases, if not eliminates outside distractions. If I am
very concentrated on the show I am watching, then I become much more likely to view the next
episode and begin a binge watching spiral. This same concept goes to show why viewing a show in a
shared setting with distractions decreases the likelihood of binge watching as viewers cannot achieve a
high level of escapism and become less invested in the show.
Even though the medium plays a crucial role in binge watching, it is also important to take into
account the role commercials play in one s television viewing experience. Commercials serves as a
form of distraction when it comes to television watching, as they disrupt a viewer s concentration.
These increased distractions again prove why watching television in the traditional sense, like on
network television, decreases habits of binge watching. But what about when online streaming
services have commercials as well, does this change the way people binge watch? Video streaming
services like

Women Within The Grecian Culture
Ancient Greece as a place and period time in our extensive history was a place of patriarchal power,
controlled almost entirely by the masculine sphere and association with the Gods. It was a time in
history that produced some of the most famous thinkers however they were all men. Women within
the Grecian culture where very much the passive sex, confined to housework and almost never
educated. It is interesting therefore that the characters that have emerged at the exposure of the phallic
philosophical pen still remain as an ally to the feminist movement and are relevant to our way of
thinking today, acting as feminist pioneers both in theory and literature, helping the canon evolve
years after being written. At a time where scientific ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Medea, the Gorgon monster who seduces men, turning them to stone and Antigone who is arguably
still one of the most powerful images we have of female strength to date. In their own right and
agency, they all act as feminist pioneers Sophocles Antigone, along with Medea are potentially the
best example we have for how Myth has shaped and developed the feminist movement. Sophocles
drama Antigone, written around 441 BCE, is one of his three Theban plays that chronicle the dark
fortunes of the house of Oedipus, king of Thebes. After Oedipus death, there is a struggle over the
kingship between his two sons Eteocles and Polyneices. The army of Polyneices marches on Thebes
and is defeated, but both brothers are killed in the battle. The new ruler, Creon, decrees that whereas
Eteocles will be buried with full honours for defending the city, the rebel Polyneices must be denied
holy rites and left to rot in the field and if anyone disobeys him they are to be punished by death. The
state and patriarchy take high place within the novel as it does in many Grecian teaching places. The
play was used to teach the subjects of the citadel about respect for the law and respect for society. We
must therefore ask questions concerning the place of a feminine tragic hero, and the effect that it
would have had.
Antigone as a rebellious character raises

Capitalism Is Good For The Economy
In the heart of the Great Depression, millions of American workers did something they d never done
before: they joined a union. Emboldened by the passage of the Wagner Act, which made collective
bargaining easier, unions organized industries across the country, remaking the economy. This quote
shows that Americans need unions. The Unites States Government should only interfere with the
economy or with how business owners run over their companies when there is a dramatic problem
within the economy and when there is nothing else that can fix the economy but the government.
Capitalism is an economic system in which the means of production and distribution are privately or
corporately owned and the operations are funded by profits. Capitalism is good for the economy
because anyone could start a business and make money instantly. An example would be the Ford
Motor Company. This company was the first company to make cars. Henry Ford had an idea and went
with it. Capitalism is better with very little or no government interference at all. Capitalism gives
people a chance to be more productive with their lives/ how they live their lives. Capitalism will go
beyond and improve if people will start saving and save money and taking loans from banks our
economy will improve as well. People want more all the time. This is the Central Economic problem
that we still have today. People are still going to want more and more and more because eventually
there will be a new product . It

There are many types of poverty in Kenya such as rural poverty and unemployment poverty. Although Kenya s soil and land is the most favourable for long term work in east Africa but rural poverty in Kenya is also strongly linked to environmental concerns so crops are damaged due to poor water management and climate change is one of the big major factor of Kenya as I mentioned in my first part of my country case study the climate changes rapidly in Kenya it has rainy season and dry seasons which both damage crops and land. Another thing that causes poverty in Kenya is unfair trade barriers, trading is a form of partnership and trading in Kenya is not equal on many terms with other countries Kenya export coffee beans from their country but there is an unfair trade between other countries Poverty in Kenya unemployment, child labour HIV (2003) Available at: http://www.poverties.org/poverty in kenya.html. Weather The Migration Hypothesis The reading and the lecture discuss weather the migration hypothesis is true for the edomontosaurs the elephant like dinosaurs to prove the North Slope as their habitat. The lecturer puts forth three aspects, each of which has casts doubt on the three points presented in the reading passage. To begin with, the professor avers that at the time of the edomontosaurs the temperature in the North slopes was warmer than ours. She says that the warmer temperature helps to have good vegetation in summer. Even the dead plants were enough to feed the edomontosaurs in the North slopes during winter. Thus the edomontosaurs did not need to migrate to south the warm place. This directly challenges the reading assertion that the food requirement for the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Assimilation In Mike Resnick s Kirinyaga A common story told in history is one society having a technological advantage over another society, and imposing their will either through conquest or assimilation. In Mike Resnick s novel Kirinyaga, the topic of European colonial assimilation is explored through a tale of a group of Kikuyu settlers on a new planet named Kirinyaga. The people of Kirinyaga experience the assimilation in three ways through direct control, cultural examples, and technological temptation. The people of Kirinyaga are only allowed to live on the planet, thanks to the charter established by Earth governments. This allows the Earth government to exercise a certain level of control over the inhabitants. Although they do not directly have the ability to shape the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This computer also has a huge repository of knowledge about the modern world. Korbia, following tradition, attempts to teach a young boy about being a witch doctor, in doing so he teaches him about the computer system. Upon being exposed to this, the boy begins to expose the stories to the village, making them distrust Korbia. This reaches its breaking point when a doctor arrives from Earth to treat an injured maintenance pilot. Her medicine is able to relive many of the maladies that Korbia could not cure. This leads to more and more of the villagers going to maintence for supplies, and care. In all this destroys the traditional culture of the Kikuyu and leads to Kirinyaga become European. This parallels the destruction of tradition in culture after the European colonization, and the growth of urban centers in the 21st century. Africa is a different continent thanks to colonization, mostly thanks to shifts in culture caused by the direct control, cultural examples, and technological temptation. Resnick examines this phenomenon and truly shows just how much we can leave behind while looking for the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In the context of migration, cooking becomes a particularly significant process. All the migrants belong to certain ethnic groups, membership of which they express through food choices. This concept is broadly discussed in the memoir Me in Place, and the Place in Me by Parvathi Raman. Raman tells about her migration from India to the UK. • 12. Theodore Roethke Essays Theodore Roethke Roethke was a great poet, the successor to Frost and Stevens in modern American poetry, and it is the measure of his greatness that his work repays detailed examination (Parini 1). Theodore Roethke was a romantic who wrote in a variety of styles throughout his long successful career. However, it was not the form of his verse that was important, but the message being delivered and the overall theme of the work. Roethke was a deep thinker and often pondered about and reflected on his life. This introspection was the topic of much of his poetry. His analysis of his self and his emotional experiences are often expressed in his verse. According to Ralph J. Mills Jr., this self interest was the primary matter of ... His first volume, Open House, published in 1941, was filled with images of growth and decay and had short unrhymed verses (Encarta). According to Allan Seager, most of the reviews were good and those that contained adverse criticisms tacitly acknowledged that it was the work of a genuine poet and not a beginner (Contemporary Authors 476). His next two volumes, The Lost Son and Other Poems (1948) and Praise to the End! (1951) were expressions of his explorations of his interior self. After reading The Lost Son and Other Poems, Richard Blessing claimed To my mind, the transformation of Theodore Roethke from a poet of lyric resourcefulness, technical proficiency, and ordered sensibility to a poet of indomitable creativeness and audacity, difficult, heroic, moving, and profoundly disquieting is one of the most remarkable in American history (Contemporary Authors 478). Roethke received a Pulitzer Prize in 1953 for The Waking. Words for the Wind (1958) won both the National Book Award and the Bollingen Prize. • 16. Interplay Of Conflict And Deception In Interpersonal... Two parts of interpersonal communication go hand in hand are conflict and deception. One can lead to the other and vice versa. Most people try to avoid both conflict and deception, but people must realize that they have benefits and are a reality in everyday interactions. The interplay of conflict and deception specifically harnessed my attention over the past few chapters. Interpersonal conflict is an expressed struggle between two interdependent parties who perceive incompatible goals, scarce resources, and interference from the other party in achieving their goals (Floyd, 2011, p. 350). To fully understand conflict, the definition can be broken down further. As Kory Floyd (2011) describes, conflict is an expressed struggle. A conflict is not fully present until one party s feelings are aware to the other party. This can be done through both verbal and nonverbal behaviors. Conflict occurs between interdependent parties as Floyd (2011) explains. A disagreement becomes a conflict if both parties depend on each other in some way. For example, the relationship between a child and their parents is a relationship that has high interdependence. If there is no dependence between the two parties, Floyd (2011) does not consider it interpersonal conflict, which I personally found interesting. The next part of the definition declares that conflict is about the goals the parties perceive see as incompatible. Incompatible, means that both party s needs cannot be met. However, Floyd ... However, the church was in need of reform and although Wolsey talked about doing it he never did, Wolsey was a failure in the aspect of Church and Religion as he did nothing, which to the people made it look like Henry did nothing also. Poe s gothic tale has inspired generations of readers with his unique style of rich detail and sheer horror. In, The Fall of the House of Usher one finds the house mysteriously connected with its inhabitants. As they slowly fall into a state of decay, both mental and physical, so also does its structure weaken, eventually collapsing into the tarn in which it was standing, as its tenants fall prey to the strain of body and mind. Both the narrator and Roderick are horrified by her appearance of life, even triumphing over her disease, and wonder as they lock her in an old keep for a fortnight. Poe does not fail to inspire within the reader a sense of awe in her death, nor does he spare the lurid details of the terror lurking within this burial scene of the lady Madeline. Soon Roderick takes to pacing all about the dark house, his mental condition deteriorating no less rapidly than his physical; and even that has nearly reached its last stages of deterioration. Although the majority of those choices may be for the greater good, some can hurt others. We are put to the task, and we have several obstacles in our way, and it is our duty to accomplish that task. In Ernest Hemingway s For Whom the Bells Tolls, the character of Robert Jordan risks his life to fight fascism to do his duty, take care of Maria and to wash away his father suicide. To begin with, Robert Jordan takes care of the woman he loves, Maria. Ever since Robert Jordan went with the reclusive group in the mountain, the two of them had empathy of love towards each other. Robert Jordan tries to reject the adulation they have for each other because he thinks that after the bridge is blown, they will not see each other anymore. Maria refuses to think that and shows all her love towards him. Soon Robert Jordan seems to care more about Maria and uses their passion for each other as a distraction from the war. Hewson states that Jordan comes to realize that he and Maria are making an alliance against death through their love for each other (6). Their love for each other designates them forget about everything, and all they want to do is be together. The alliance against death that they have is significant in the story. Being together assembles them to feel powerful and gives them both hope and strength during their hard times there. This helps out both of these characters in their own ... The biggest reason why there are norms in the first place is because it makes life relatively simpler and effortless. The majority of society tends to follow this ideology which is not wrong to have a simple life but it should not include gender norms because it creates too much chaos between the sexes. This leads to the predator/prey mindset that Julia Serano speaks about in her Article Why Nice Guys Finish Last that makes men into predators and females seen as whores and virgins. Biased gender roles can be seen almost anywhere, like movies, advertisements, music and television shows. In music, artists sing creatively standing for and against gender stereotypes. Movies are huge influencers of gender stereotyping as well. Watching television in the traditional way, like on a television set in a shared space can bring up many distractions. External factors like watching a show with other people or background noise can create distractions that drastically effect a viewers watching experience, thus decreasing their investment in the show. This is why I much prefer to watch television shows on a computer or tablet with headphones on. This promotes escapism and decreases, if not eliminates outside distractions. If I am very concentrated on the show I am watching, then I become much more likely to view the next episode and begin a binge watching spiral. This same concept goes to show why viewing a show in a shared setting with distractions decreases the likelihood of binge watching as viewers cannot achieve a high level of escapism and become less invested in the show. Even though the medium plays a crucial role in binge watching, it is also important to take into account the role commercials play in one s television viewing experience. Commercials serves as a form of distraction when it comes to television watching, as they disrupt a viewer s concentration. Women Within The Grecian Culture Ancient Greece as a place and period time in our extensive history was a place of patriarchal power, controlled almost entirely by the masculine sphere and association with the Gods. It was a time in history that produced some of the most famous thinkers however they were all men. Women within the Grecian culture where very much the passive sex, confined to housework and almost never educated. It is interesting therefore that the characters that have emerged at the exposure of the phallic philosophical pen still remain as an ally to the feminist movement and are relevant to our way of thinking today, acting as feminist pioneers both in theory and literature, helping the canon evolve years after being written. Sophocles drama Antigone, written around 441 BCE, is one of his three Theban plays that chronicle the dark fortunes of the house of Oedipus, king of Thebes. After Oedipus death, there is a struggle over the kingship between his two sons Eteocles and Polyneices. The army of Polyneices marches on Thebes and is defeated, but both brothers are killed in the battle. The new ruler, Creon, decrees that whereas Eteocles will be buried with full honours for defending the city, the rebel Polyneices must be denied holy rites and left to rot in the field and if anyone disobeys him they are to be punished by death. The state and patriarchy take high place within the novel as it does in many Grecian teaching places. The play was used to teach the subjects of the citadel about respect for the law and respect for society. We must therefore ask questions concerning the place of a feminine tragic hero, and the effect that it would have had. Antigone as a rebellious character raises ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Emboldened by the passage of the Wagner Act, which made collective bargaining easier, unions organized industries across the country, remaking the economy. This quote shows that Americans need unions. The Unites States Government should only interfere with the economy or with how business owners run over their companies when there is a dramatic problem within the economy and when there is nothing else that can fix the economy but the government. Capitalism is an economic system in which the means of production and distribution are privately or corporately owned and the operations are funded by profits. Capitalism is good for the economy because anyone could start a business and make money instantly. An example would be the Ford Motor Company. This company was the first company to make cars. Henry Ford had an idea and went with it. Capitalism is better with very little or no government interference at all. Capitalism gives people a chance to be more productive with their lives/ how they live their lives. Capitalism will go beyond and improve if people will start saving and save money and taking loans from banks our economy will improve as well. People want more all the time. This is the Central Economic problem that we still have today. People are still going to want more and more and more because eventually there will be a new product . It ...
