Thoughts on Being Humble
What is the purpose of being humble, when should we be humble, and is being humble overrated?
Do people only dislike other people for being cocky because they doubt themselves?
Personally, I do not mind it much when people brag about what they have achieved or have done.
More often than not, I know they never intentionally mean any harm by doing so. Why should I
mind? They re only excited about their life, right?
It is always easy to remain humble when everything is good and dandy, but the moment someone
criticizes them, they tend to withdraw, especially if the person criticizing does so in a tone which
may not be soothing enough.
I know people who swear on their lives they are humble, yet, they are not. They are so deep in ...

We must strive to remember how to behave during tough situations.
In contrast, I can understand why it isn t a good idea to be humble also. In other countries,
people tend to be less direct, or more humble during business or discussions. America tends to be
more direct, and if people who tend to be more direct are less understanding and less able to
recognize one who is less direct during a conversation, we must remember that there is a potential
that the humble person may be perceived as a weak individual, whether it be physically, mentally,
or via business.
I propose we be humble, confident, and persistent. We can prove ourselves to ourselves by
consistently making things happen by REMEMBERING to take positive action. Let us advance in
life by remembering to remain humble during proper moments because it is those moments which
shape our destiny.
Being humble is the same as having a student mentality, and it is much more difficult to learn when
we lack a student mentality. We simply become less receptive to knowledge.
Also, you may want to keep in mind that cockiness and talking about what you want to do may
cause people to resent you, and people often do not like to see cocky or arrogant individuals rise
above levels which they themselves have yet to achieve. It is easier to rise above when we remain
humble because people will like us better.
Another good reason to be humble is because we never know when the tables

South Africa s New Secrecy Bill Putting Country s...
South Africa is recognised internationally as a country passionate about upholding its democracy.
Last year however, the National Assembly decided to pass a condemned Secrecy Bill, two days
prior to Freedom Day, despite citizen s disapprovals. Was the event a mere coincidence or is our
country s democracy at stake?
The Secrecy Bill, formally known as the Protection of State Information Act, was introduced to
replace the apartheid era legislation. It is supposedly an improved legislation which serves to
protect sensitive or classified state information against unnecessary disclosure and destruction. It
has been noted by the media and even President Jacob Zuma himself that the Bill has some grey
areas where national interest remains too vague a reason for keeping information classified.
Furthermore, the Secrecy Bill restricts the media s access to government information, offering hefty
jail sentences to those who leak the secrets withheld by government. Is that a procedure to protect
the state of corruption in our country, or is it to protect the State itself?
As far as I am concerned, the Secrecy Bill acts against our constitutional rights. The South African
Constitution states that: Everyone has the right of access to any information held by the state.
Along with this, the Bill acts against the right to freedom of speech, as the media can no longer
publish articles freely. This means that journalists will no longer be able to investigate issues of
fraud, theft and

Character Development Of David Copperfield
Charles Dickens David Copperfield relates the story of a young boy s growth and development
into maturity. The story starts with the birth and childhood of David Copperfield at his home,
Blunderstone Rookery. He was born six months after the death of his father and now he is raised
by his mother Clara and his nurse Peggotty, who give him a happy childhood. He remembers his
mother as carefree and recalls the relaxed atmosphere that the three of them had together. He
frequently says that this is one of the happiest times in his life. But everything changed once his
mother meets the dark but handsome Mr. Murdstone. Peggotty immediately starts disliking him and
often fights with Clara about him, but Clara refuses to notice her advice. so after all this
melodrama Peggotty decides to visit her home town... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Yarmouth and spend some time there, arriving just in time to hear the announcement of Little
Em ly s and Ham s engagement, which Steerforth is not entirely happy about. After conferring
with his aunt, David decides to pursue the career of a proctor. He moves into Doctors Commons
in London and works at the offices of Spenlow and Jorkins. He even gets his own apartment with
a landlady named Mrs. Crupp. He encounters old friends of his, including Tommy Traddles from
Salem House, who is studying to be a lawyer and is working to save money for his wedding to his
fiancee, and Mr. Micawber. Soon, however, Mr. Micawber is forced to leave once again due to

Essay The Closing Down Of Summer
Simple recipes by Madeleine Thien, and The Closing Down of Summer by Allister MacLeod both
focus on the struggles the characters undergo due to cultural gaps, or being away from home from
work, creating the sense of isolation or alienation within their families. The impression of isolation
found in the text is generated from the situational behaviours found in the actions, thoughts, or
exchange of language in the characters. For Macleod focuses on how his protagonist uses ancestral
rituals to find individual fulfillment on the account of his work occupation deteriorating his
connection with family. Whereas Thiens story demonstrates how the uses of ritualistic behaviour
has created a tension between the different social identities of oriental... Show more content on

This effect is demonstrated through the protagonist s dislocation of being a father, and husband.
The narrator s perspective of being a parent has deteriorated, resulting in his perception that he s
merely become a financial lifeline for his children and spouse. Yet this allows them to live life
in comfort, and not undergo what he must. The protagonist s desire to fulfill the role of a father
has become an unattainable concept due to the incapability to express his emotional or mental
struggles. Macleods protagonist at face first is resilient too the challenges of his isolated work
life. Yet the deep desire to express himself to another has become forgotten. This is understood
due being surrounded by other workers who have also forgotten to express themselves, making
self expression a forgotten skill. If the need for communication in the workplace arises, it is done
with a nod, grunt or reading of familiar lips . In which Macleod narrator literally forgets how to
express himself to his family, yet finds the means of self expression through his ancestral culture,
which is contrary to Thiens, where culture pushes

The Battle Of The Soldiers
The three Soldiers were able to make it to the coast, they had taken a route that took them around
the Marines and 82nd Airborne, while making note of their numbers, vehicles and weapons.
They were surprised to find them there, with Second Brigade no place in sight. They entered
Baltimore from the north and headed South East, they found much of the city sparse with life,
they had found some civilians that had told them of the Supreme General and her Army and
how they were defeated. The Soldiers again, found themselves surprised, they were told stories
of fighter aircraft coming out of nowhere, and destroying the main base. They were also told of
the mighty shells that came in and destroyed the Supreme Generals compound. Following the
aircraft and shells came the Marines, fighting anyone that stood in their way, taking back the city.
The people they spoke with told them not to get them wrong, they were happy with the actions of
the Marines, they cleared out most of the gangs or ran them off. Life had been easier and safer
since they came. They also told the three Soldiers that several hundred Marines remained in the
city and were securing the port and refineries. That the Marines were being supplemented by the
Army, they thought they heard the 82nd Airborne out of Fort Bragg, North Carolina. It was all so
incredible, than they were told of the ships off the coast, one was an aircraft carrier, which the
Soldiers found hard to believe. The civilians told them

Adam By Louise Erdrich Analysis
In the essay Adam, written by Louise Erdrich, she opens up about her relationship with her adopted
son Adam, who was born with Fetal Alcohol Syndrome (FAS) and her feelings on women who
drink while pregnant. Adam came into Ms. Erdrich s life when she met her future husband, Michael
Dorris, whom had adopted Adamyears before. Though, she never intended to be the mother of a
child with physical and mental disorders, she developed a special relationship with her son that
came with trials and errors, but also patience and love. It was through the trying times with Adam
that Ms. Erdrich resents his biological mother the most. His birth mother took from Adam a life of

The simple fact is they shouldn t. These women place on their children the hardships of physical
and mental pain that will last their entire lives. They re abilities to lead normal lives are taken
from them and the probability that they will always be dependent on a person for their care. So,
where can the line be drawn to either help women with alcoholism refrain from drinking while
pregnant, or punish those who just don t care when it comes to their unborn? Should society make
laws and imprison a woman for harming her unborn child, but who is to say while jailed she won t
drink. Alcohol and drugs pass through prisons easily in these days and if desperate enough a
pregnant woman could get her hands on alcohol. The thought of sterilization, as another form of
punishment does seem inhumane, though it would be doubtful to help the woman with her
alcoholism it does save an innocent life unnecessary

The Power Of Briseis And Agamemnon s Fate
The ironic dynamic that Briseis, having no power to control her fate, by simply existing manages
to be the first catalyst for Achilles fate contrasts the multitude of times Rebekah accomplishes to
act on her own and create events within Genesis. This contrast ultimately exists because Briseis
and Rebekah have different feelings of safety and security which allows or prevents them from
feeling free to act on their desires. The instance of Briseis not being able to control her fate is
within the first book of the poem. Agamemnon, angry that he must give up his geras for the good of
the army, fights with Achilles, yelling I m coming to your hut and taking Briseis, / Your own
beautiful prize, so that you will see just how much / Stronger I am than you (Il. 1.194 196).
Agamemnon abuses his power as the most powerful king in Greece over a matter of pride and
uses it against one of the greatest warriors in the army, which makes Agamemnon lose respect of
his men. Not one man asks Briseis if she will accept this change as all the men view her as an
object for being Achilles geras. How Briseis feels about being passed about is made very clear
when the heralds went to her And brought Briseis, cheeks flushed, out of the tent / And gave her to
the heralds, who led her away. / She went unwillingly (Il. 1.359 361). Forcing Achilles to give up
Briseis also means that Agamemnon takes Achilles honor which he seeks retribution for in a public
declaration that When every last Greek

Helicopters Persuasive Essay
With countless people dying, climbing, each year, should these people be saved, even if it means
others might die? By helicopter, is the main method these climbers are saved. These rescues are
escalating in number each year. Although this method is very expensive, it also very efficient. Less
attentive to the dangers, some of the climbers do drastic things because they know that rescue
services are just one phone call away. Then, there are climbers who make an endeavor to push that
thoughtto the back of their mind. But some people debate whether it still does have an impact on
their decisions. Even if they put others in danger, all of these climbers have the right to be
saved because the rangers are capable of saving them and the services are skilled enough. The
starting reason that people have the rights to be recovered is because the services are capable of
saving them. In the source, Helicopter Rescues Increasing on Everest it proposes the idea that
there are many techniques that people can use to rescue the climbers. As mentioned by Nick Heil,

they are doing, they should save the climbers. This also shows that they are able to and will save
the climbers. Competitors might challenge this idea by saying that all people make mistakes
sometimes, but this is incorrect because the pilots are highly advanced and rarely ever make
mistakes. In conclusion, people have the right to rescue services because the rescuers are skilled

The Massachusetts Of Massachusetts
The Massachusetts Experiment Massachusetts has undergone many changes in their health care
system since enacting a universal health care law in 1988. The effects of the Massachusetts health
care laws are a good indicator of what people should expect from the enactment of the ACA. The
multiple health care reforms in Massachusetts were in an attempt to increase health care coverage
while still maintaining financial stability.
Background
Massachusetts began its health care reform in 1988. Under the direction of Governor Michael
Dukakis (D), a universal health care law was enacted through implementation of a play or pay
employer mandate; unfortunately this implementation suffered multiple postponements
(McDonough, Rosman, Phelps, Shannon, 2006). Some components of the 1988 law were
implemented and stand today: the CommonHealth program for Medicaid coverage to disabled
adults seeking to work and to certain disabled children, the Medical Security Plan provides coverage
to workers who are collecting unemployment compensation, the Healthy Start program provides
coverage to lower income pregnant women and new mothers, and the student health insurance
mandate (McDonough et al., 2006). The years 1996 to 1997 brought about another wave of health
care reform for Massachusetts. The expansions in 1996 and 1997 resulted in an increase in the
number of people enrolled in MassHealth (Massachusetts Medicaid program). As well, one of the
key elements of Massachusetts s safety net is

Internet use has become more popular in the last two decades, while in the 80 and 90 s the common
communication channels were phone and fax, electronic email has become the norm in the new

knowledge and internetetiquette (netiquette) teach us essential rules of proper behavior for internet
use. It is imperative that we understand that in the business world, netiquette must go beyond
simple rules of common sense and courtesy, and most companies rely on established policies and

In a tort civil suit, compensatory and punitive damage amounts are awarded in favor of the plaintiff;
some conditions need to exist for a tort to be ruled in favor of a plaintiff. Contrary to a criminal
trial, if the defendant is found guilty, he/she only needs to pay the ordered compensatory damages
to the plaintiff, without the need to spend time incarcerated. There are intentional torts, and torts
cause by negligence. The intention here is to enlighten you and your employees of the possible
consequences of certain internet usage. There are a number of situations that can bring down a tort
civil suit on an employer; among them is sexual harassment, which has become a common
phenomenon of the internet as read in this excerpt, Sexual Harassment is the use of sexualized
intimidation, insult, and threat to exert control over women. On the Internet, such behavior is more
common and more outrageous than in the physical world because of the anonymity of the
communications medium and the disproportionate number of men using it (Waerner, 2016).
Another cause for torts is dissemination of confidential information; an employee(s) disclosing
confidential information pertaining clients through the use of technology, can put an employer a risk
for a tort suit. An important thing to remember is that nowadays, most files can be sent
electronically, and downloads are enabled with just a click of couple of keys, special care need s
to be taken to avoid malware or toher risk associated with viistng at risks sites. Another tort can be
for intentional infliction of emotional distress on someone by a person who exhibited severe and
outrageous behavior intentionally (Legal Information Institute, 2016). This can be done through the
internet in the form of harassment and cyberspace bullying, a common issue in social media.

Traffic and Congestion: To mitigate and prevent the risk of traffic and congestion surrounding

expected to take public transport and prevent these services from becoming overwhelmed
additional trains on the Fremantle Line and special designated trains direct to the Showgrounds

The Divine Comedy Dante By Dante Alighieri
Perfection. Society has been taught to strive for that and normally perfection is accompanied by a
religion that exemplifies it and the reward tends to be unimaginably amazing. The problem is that
no one is perfect, and because there is no way to measure that we try our best or we give up and
follow other paths. Dante Alighieri, born in Florence, Italy in 1265, was born into a very power
hungry age. Morality was not very high on someone s to do list. In the Divine ComedyDante makes
a point of writing about those that have done him wrong and placing them where the belong . But

nine circles and each of those circles is centralizes it s punishment around a type of sin. In the
first circle it is called Limbo where the unbaptized and virtuous pagans are grieving all day every

never ending and violent wind. In the fifth circle are the Wrathful which contain those who were
angry and did not let things go. In the fifth circle is a man named Filippo Argenti, a man who Dante
hated and wished more punishment upon. Dante got his wish. Circle VI embodies the Heretics and
where Farinata, Dante s enemy in politics, resides. Both Filippo and Farinata did Dante wrong but
that is not the only reason they ended up in Hell. They ended up there because they sinned and the

How To Make Walt Disney World

gobble or drink more than 75 million cokes, 300,000 pounds of popcorn, 10 million hamburgers, 6

Benzoyl Chloride Lab Report
The chloride in benzoyl chloride would induce a partial positive charge on the carbon in the
carbonyl group. This carbon would also have a partial positive charge due to the electronegativity of
the oxygen attached to it. The partial positive charge enables the carbon to be attack by

First, the percent yield was 58.4%. This is not the best nor the worst percent yield there could
be. The reason why this was too low could be because some of the product at the end kept

melting point of 122 124 degrees C is close to the benzamide s melting point of 128 130 degrees

In The Time Of The Butterflies Sacrifice
Julia Alvarez s main message being conveyed in her novel In the Time of the Butterflies written in
1995, is that freedom comes at the price of bravery and sacrifice. Throughout the novel, The
Mirabal Sisters are at a constant fight for the freedom of themselves, their family, and even their
country. They learn to use courage and make sacrifices for the sake of their family and the
revolution they are involved in. The acts of courage and sacrifice that exude through this novel
illustrate Julia Alvarez s message that freedom is something that must be fought for.

displayed are sacrifices for the revolution and sacrifices for the family. Minerva, ... Show more

the man who kills people daily in the face. This act had to take an absurd amount of courage to
commit and exhibits Minerva s bold attitude. After this occurs, Minerva leaves her purse with
letters from Lio inside at the mansion. The repercussions of the slap and the purse get Minerva
and her mother and father sent to the capital to be questioned. Although this act gets Minerva in

Ancient Human Brain
Our brains today are capable of thinking, making decisions, learning, and creating new ideas and
inventions. However, 1.8 million years ago, our brains were not as capable nor were they as
advanced as our modern brain. Studies suggest that this increase of brain size was all due to an
unexpected factor that occurred almost 2 million years ago; this skill discovered by the homo

American Invovment in Vietnam Essay
In American History, the nineteen sixties and the nineteen seventies were extremely turbulent and
controversial times. Protest rights were being tested and occasionally suppressed, new moral and
political values began to develop, and the Vietnam War dominated the twenty year period. Vietnam
invited many young activist people to begin a huge movement of anti war protesting denouncing
the war, the government, and even the soldiers who were picked against their will to fight. Reasons
for American entry into the Vietnam War are controversial, and everyone has a different opinion on
why we got into the conflict. Multiplereasons contributed to the entry in Vietnam from support of
allies who were fighting their battles, to the fact that the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Another reason for American entry into the Vietnam War was the commitment that had formerly
been made by the French and the American s into the fight or the support of the fight in Vietnam
for the French colony. The French had been fighting for an Indochina colony after World War Two
to benefit them, but at the same time had been struggling with domestic costs and issues. American
support to the French in the form of millions of dollars to support the war failed, but officially
committed to Americans to a cause in Vietnam in the American governments eyes. In 1954, at
Dienbienphu the French military forces came into conflict with the North Vietnamese forces, called
the Vietminh after their leader Ho Chi Minh, being defeated and leaving the Communist
Vietnamese the victors. The French negotiations left a border at the 17th parallel making North
Vietnam the communist half of the country while the Southern half was the democratic portion. An
election was set up to decide whether the government was to become communist or democratic.
American officials would not stand for this agreement realizing that it would fall to the communist,
so they replaced the French in South
Vietnam and began to train the South Vietnamese Army. This would soon lead us into the actual

Nihilism In Yevgeny Vasilievich Bazarov s Fathers And Sons
In the novel, Fathers and Sons , the character Yevgeny Vasilievich Bazarov is perceived to be a
strong headed, and intelligent Nihilist who is not afraid to express his beliefs on anyone that
dares to question and challenge him about it. He is first introduced in the story by Arkady as a
great friend and gives a nice wrap in the first few chapters of the story; giving his father and
himself the title of a doctor, who had a special capacity for winning the confidence of lower class
people and indeed treated them casually (15). But the story changes him quite a bit when they
reveal what he is, Nihilist, who recognizes, nor respects nothing and regards everything from (a)
critical point of view (17). Due to this given trait of nihilism, and the way he carries his opinions
out to others, I believe the novelplays more against Bazarov rather than for him. Ever since the
introduction of him being a Nihilist, Bazarov has been recognized in the story as rude,
judgemental, aggressive and hypocritical towards the majority of the characters in the book. His
beliefs have also caused him to break bonds, and turned a friendship sour with Arkady. An
example of this bond breaking moment could be his moments with Pavel Petrovitch Kirsanov:
despite not even having a type of friendly relationship or any to begin with, Bazarov just creates
tension between him and Pavel, as he demonstrates his views to Pavel and Nikolai. Throughout the
Bazarov s discusses in chapter 6, he

The Benefits Of Banning Books
Writer and activist, Peter Montgomery once wrote about the right to read as, A celebration of the
diverse range of ideas found in books, and our right as citizens to make our own intellectual
choices. Having the right to read any type of book without the worry of being caught creates a
feeling of control and freedom for the person. Bookbanning not only chains people up, but
encloses their learning perspective and point of view of the world and what is going on in it. It
also has the ability to restrain adults and children of all ages and gender from enjoying a wonderful
book that they might enjoy! Although some books contain mature content they should not be
banned; this is because people might enjoy reading them, it teaches peers about the real world, and
it gives people the freedom to read whatever they want.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

A Coupled Model Of Transport, Turbulence, And Mesoscale Flows
A coupled model of transport, turbulence, and mesoscale flows is proposed, including turbulence
spreading. The model consists of transport equations for plasma density and pressure coupled to a
shell model of drift wave turbulence, which incorporates coupling to mesoscale flows via disparate
scale interactions. The model can describe the turbulent cascade and its dynamical interplay with
zonal and mean shear flows as well as the profile evolution (including the profiles of turbulence
intensity itself) due to these self consistent turbulent fluxes. This simple system of equations is
shown to capture the low to high confinement (L H) transition. It is also observed that as the
heating is increased, the system goes through an intermediate... Show more content on

For instance the models including the effect of evolution of plasma turbulence driven by profile
gradients were proposed and studied by various authors (see, e.g., Refs. 7 and 18). In particular,
the model of Miki et al.7,19,20 has the advantage of including oscillations between two
predators (zonal flows and mean flows) and one prey (turbulence) while achieving the L H
transition. As such, it is also able to describe an L I H transition (L H transition with an
intermediate phase), which was initially predicted by a 0D model.21,22 However in most of the
reduced models, the transport coefficients are determined by an ad hoc shear suppression rule.
Here we propose an approach based on shell models, where the shear suppression and the predator
prey dynamics are natural results of the disparate scale interactions incorporated within the shell
model description. The model that is introduced in this paper is interesting for various reasons. It
is significant, for instance, in that it makes use of a simple description of turbulence based on shell
models, yet it is able to describe the complex interplay between turbulence and zonal flows in a
natural self consistent way, without making use of ad hoc steady state relations such as the shear
suppression rule. On the other hand, the model

the majority of indidivauls within the community of Deaf people do not join it at birth. While
reading these chapters I ve seen both auhtors try to present the culture from the inside to discover
how Deaf people describe themselves and how they think about their lives.
In chapter 1, two Deaf sisters Helen and Vicki were interviwed by Carol. Their interview stood out
to be the most in the chapter because it showed children spend their time learning what things are
supposed to mean. As Carol interviewed the two Deaf sisters and they both argued about Michael
being deaf or hearing it made me question why they both had a different answer if their both deaf.
Also when Vicki mentioned Michael being Deaf and hearing I noticed you can;t be Deaf and

reasons we never expect. This was interesting because when Vicki reaches her older sister age she

Marriage And The Role Of Women

Marriage Essay
During the 14th century, marriage and the role of women in the marriage were very different
from today. Most marriages in the 14th century occurred between an older man and a young
girl; a girl is usually chosen because they were pure and could produce the most heirs. The bride
s family would pay the husband through a dowry, consisting of land, money, or anything of high
value. The more unattractive the women were, the more the family would have to pay the
husband. Right here, women are already being objectified by their looks. Men want a girl who
looks pure and untouched, why would anyone want a dirtied girl. Being someone who was not
good looking was an even bigger disgrace since your appearance does not please your husband,
you are not doing your job of keeping him happy. Women are often portrayed as an object of men
to be bought and fondled with; they are not allowed to control their lives. Geoffrey Chaucer took
part in telling the story of how many women acted in the 14th century and how the women were
portrayed at this time. Chaucer s views on marriage are made very clear throughout The Canterbury
Tales. He used the five marriage tales: The Shipman s Tale, The Wife s Prologue , The Clark s
Tale , The Merchant s Tale , and The Franklin s Tale to express his views on marriage, I was struck
most strongly by how much he knew about love, about men and women, by the depth and
complexity of an

The Consequences of Rewarding Good Grades with Money
Only 19% of 654 Canadian parents consider the age of 5 to be too young to be given money (Kids
Money, 2014). This is a huge problem in today s society. Kids are easily driven by money and can
become spoiled as well as overprivelaged. It would benefit both the child and parent(s) if they do
not receive money for good grades. Due to the lack of knowledge, kids are unable to spend
money wisely. Their strive for money becomes their main goal and do not realize the importance
of their grades. This leads to rushed work also, paying your childis a waste of the money earned by
the parents and leads to consequences for their future.
First of all, when kids get money for good grades, they are unable to spend it effectively. A child
are more likely to spend money on items such as games, candy or objects of their interest instead
of items that could be more beneficial towards themselves. They don t know how to handle
responsibility and have not been taught how to utilize their money. Economy does not lie in
sparing money, but, in spending it wisely (Huxley, 2014). Children don t understand the value of
money and how hard their parents work to receive enough to provide for them. With this hard
earned money, their parents fill their necessities while the kids fulfill their desires. A penny saved
is a penny earned (Franklin, 2014).
Because kids are unable to use their money effectively, the money of their parents gets taken
advantage of and gets wasted. The money that is given to

Examples Of Rebellion In Persepolis
Rebellion is the act of resisting authority. In the 3 stories, each of the characters rebelled against the
authorities in one way or another. In Cairo, the characters joined the revolution, in Lolita the
character did not walk with her chaperon, and in Persepolis the character quietly rebelled against
the government and its rules. To begin with, in the first source the main character, Ahdaf, decides to
join the Egyptian revolution. The revolution started because the people of Egypt thought that the
government was unfair and they needed a change. The author described the rebellionto be very
violent as she states in lines 64 68 at the other end of the Midan, from the roof of the American
University, the snipers were watching us, too silently. Everywhere there was continuous thud of
guns and from time to time a loud, intermittent rattling sound. Thus, the protest left more than one

August Strindberg s Personality through Hypnotism in Miss Julie
In the preface of the brutal... cynical... heartless drama (Strindberg 57), Miss Julie, August
Strindberg gives an in depth analysis of his play and himself. Fashioning his characters as souls
(Strindberg 91), Strindberg permits mobility in personal development and reflects the complexity
of the self. Through his drawing of the characters to be swift and vacillating (Strindberg 82),
Strindberg reflects the temperament during the late 1800s, incorporating an urgently hysterical
(Strindberg 91) atmosphere. During this time period, hysteria was respective to females, and ...

The preface demonstrates Strindberg s take on hysteria (alike how the character drawing can be
used to reflect Strindberg s views on psyche) as an influx of lower, unreliable instruments of
thought which we call feelings (Strindberg 88). Although this waking suggestion brings a violent
end to the play, Strindberg s use of hypnosis can instead be seen as a reflection of his desperation
and hopelessness regarding the truth of life.
Each character is unique in the play, avoiding simple stage characters... one [which] is stupid..
one brutal... one jealous... (Strindberg 59). Strindberg avoids the idiotically mathematical
(Strindberg 57) ideology where the big eat the small (Strindberg 57), instead employing a variety
of characters and plot, which mirror the irregularity of everyday life. Strindberg adds minute
details to each character, justifying his premise that [any] event in real life... springs generally
from a whole series of motives (Strindberg 58). Several of Miss Julie s motives are attributed to
her rearing as her father s mistaken upbringing of the girl (Strindberg 58). Strindberg also

During the spring semester of 2015, I took the Service Learning course in psychology (Psych 410).
The general structure of this course included attending a 70 minutes long class on Mondays and
Wednesdays to learn about service learning from the psychology field perspectives, reading
scientific articles, conducting literature reviews to broaden my understanding of the subject, and in
class constructive discussions with my colleagues. The course required 50 hours of community

intellectual disability. This organization has several homes in the Leonardtown area. Each home has
four to five residents that are grouped based on the developmental disabilityconditions. As part of

But what fundamental necessities do rich schools posses that money could provide for poor
schools? Besides the obvious needs of the extremely needy schools: repairs to the building
(proper plumbing, roofing and walls to name a few) and basic supplies (such as books, paper,
computers and laboratory tools), the school also needs money in less obvious areas. With more
money at its disposal a school can purchase more space and teachers. It has been proven that
students learn better (and teachers can teach better) when the class size is limited to under twenty
four. This is not possible without financing for a larger school and more teachers to accommodate
all the students. A school with larger funds also has the capability to choose better administrators

Increased productivity the quantity and quality of output per hour worked seems to be a
byproduct of improved quality of working life. It is important to note that the literature on the
relationship between job satisfaction and productivity is neither conclusive nor consistent.
However, studies dating back to Herzberg s (1957) have shown at least low correlation between
high morale and high productivity, and it does seem logical that more satisfied workers will
tend to add more value to an organization. Unhappy employees, who are motivated by fear of job
loss, will not give 100 percent of their effort for very long. Though fear is a powerful motivator,
it is also a temporary one, and as soon as the threat is lifted performance will decline. Tangible
ways in which job satisfaction benefits the organization include reduction in complaints and

The Collegiate Experience Of Student Athletes
The collegiate experience of student athletes varies across the sports played, divisions, and
grade level. Division one athletes are the most likely to be engaged in the college experience
than other athletes (NCAA, 2015). One big predictor in the level that student engage in the
college experience is whether they view themselves as an athlete or a student (NCAA, 2015).
That decision holds implications from there on. Those who identify more as an athlete and less
as a student tend to have lower gpa s, and devote less time to their academic work than other
students. Those that identify as students have an average gpa of 3.2, spend 30 hours on
athletics, 40 on academics, and miss an average of 1.3 classes (NCAA, 2015). Those that
identify more as athletes have an average gpa of 2.9, spend 35 hours a week on athletics, spend
36 on academics, and miss an average of 1.7 classes (NCAA, 2015). The amount of time spent
toward various activities varies across different sports and the level of commitment they require.
Despite this student athletes in all sports generally commit large amounts of time to both athletics
and academic endeavors (NCAA, 2015). The majority of student athletes report that they are
actively involved in their campus community outside of athletics and believe that their athletics
participation has benefited them socially (NCAA, 2015). A research study done by the NCAA

The Market For Sensitivity Toothpaste
The market for sensitivity toothpaste is not completely tapped by the producers of sensitivity
toothpaste. In urban market (Tier 1 2) have a higher awareness of tooth sensitivity issue and
account for about 80% according to dentists. Of those 80% not everyone uses sensitive
toothpaste. Also, the 20% of those not aware are also a potential target for future customers.
Which provides for a credible market in the urban cities for CP to target. The other major reason
to target the sensitivity market is the rural population (Tier3 6). Majority population falls in this
category and sensitivity issue accounts for 25% of the people. This market segment has not yet
been targeted by other competitors and provides CP with an opportunity to target in the future.
CP will have to evaluate the positioning for each segment to determine how to target the
segment. Positioning is the mental picture that people have about a company and its products or
services relative to competitors (Grewal, 2014, p 234). In order to develop the positioning it is
important to have a positioning statement. It expresses how a company wants to be perceived by
consumers (Grewal, 2014, p 234). CP statement has been clear in India for a number of years. It
has used statements such as India s No. 1 Brand or India s No.1 Most Trusted Brand. While in the
sensitive market segment it states No. 1 toothpaste recommended by dentists for sensitive teeth.
Usually, firms position their products and services

Working As An Intern Caring For Patients With Cancer On...
Reflection Assignment Working as an intern caring for patients with cancer on the Adjunctive
Cancer Care (ACC) shift at the Robert Schad Naturopathic Clinic (RSNC) for this past year has
been a great learning experience. Although it had its own unique set of challenges, it has been a
real privilege to be a trusted part of the patients care experience. With the privilege of being a
part of patient s health care teams, there were many challenging aspects working with terminally
ill patients. I initially found it hard to fully commit to the therapeutic relationship; I wanted to
maintain some form of internal boundary to protect myself emotionally. I found as time when
on, I was more willing to open up and exposure my emotional vulnerability in order to fully meet
their needs and be there for the patient. It is a delicate balance trying to be there fully for your
patient, care for them to the fullest extent, as well as attempting to protect my own emotions and
feelings. There is a give and take to this balance, and it evolved as the relationship with the
patient evolved and my ease in the role of an intern matured. I have patients who are as close as
a friend now, after a year of working together. I am sad to be ending our therapeutic relationship
due to the end of my internship, I am also sad that I won t be having contact these patients
anymore, or being kept up to date with their health. It is a strange finality to our working
relationship; I am not yet sure how it will

Midwest Research Paper
ay
There are many different great places to live in the United States. Each region of the US is very
different from the others. My favorite region is the Midwest. I like the Midwest for many reasons,
but mainly because it contains my hometown. States in the Midwest vary from South Dakota, to
Kansas, to Wisconsin, and Ohio. Illinois, my home state, is also in the Midwest. South Dakota has
a well known tourist attraction. This is known as Mount Rushmore. Kansas is known as a pretty
barren state. Along with Illinois, they have lots of agriculture. The main crops in the Midwest
include corn, soybeans, and wheat. Wisconsin is called the Badger state, but is known for the
large amount of dairy produced there. Supposedly, there are more cows in Wisconsin than there
are people. There are also several big cities in the Midwest. The biggest city is Chicago, Illinois,
which is situated right along Lake Michigan. Indianapolis, Columbus, and Detroit are the next
largest cities in the Midwest. Detroit, Michigan is home to automobiles where over one million
cars are produced every year. Milwaukee, Wisconsin is the last of the largest cities in the Midwest
and is famous for brewing. This would explain why their major league baseball team is ... Show

I like the Midwest because it has such a great diversity. You can go be a farmer and grow crops or
be a farmer and raise dairy cows. If you are more of the city slicker type and don t like to live rural,
than you can go live in the big cities such as Chicago. If you like to fish there are many places to go
to or you could visit any of the five largest freshwater lakes in the world. There is also lots of
hunting in the Midwest. The list could go on and on but I m afraid I would bore you too much. I
enjoy the Midwest for the reasons stated above and because it s where I grew up most my life. I
don t see a reason to move, so if I could choose I would probably stay here for the rest of my

Because of the unique habits in migration, feeding, and behavior of certain populations orca have
been classified into several distinct population types. (Note: This term type should not be
confused with the method of delineating different physical features and coloration in orcas
which are referred to as Type A , Type B , etc. ). Residency types are becoming so divergent that it
is likely that O. orca will be split into a number of different species or at least subspecies over the
next few years. (IUCN, 2008). The population types are as follows: Resident: Most commonly

Development of Software Applications
Custom decision support system software application The development of software applications
is an intricate effort which can be approached from several angles. Four common approaches
include prototyping, rapid application development, object oriented analysis and design
business process engineering. Each of these methods is characterized by distinctive features, as
revealed below. Prototyping Prototyping as an approach to software development represents a
mechanism of data visualization, characterized nevertheless by the fact that it is not, in itself, a
means of creating the actual software. Prototyping is a complementary solution to actual
software development and it allows a prototype of the future software application to be
presented to stakeholders for viewing purposes, collection of funds and so on. Prototyping is a
useful planning mechanism since it allows for the more accurate creation of estimates, deadlines
and deliverables. In addition, the prototyping approach to software also allows the software
developers to access and assess the workloads and set feasible tasks (Oxagile, 2013). Rapid
application development The rapid application development approach to the creation of software
reveals an insignificant emphasis on planning as a process integrant to software development. The
developers, as such, quickly set out to create the application (or a prototype of the application) in
order to quickly possess a usable product. With rapid application

Comparison Of Terry Fox And Maurice Richard
Terry Fox and Maurice Richard Canada s history is rich with leaders willing to bring change.
Terry Fox and Maurice Richard are two different notable Canadians who both had similar
historical significance and leadership abilities. This essay will be addressing their historical
significance through the quantity of lives they affected across the country and the durability of
the impacts still evident today, and their leadership ability of displaying determination by
showing resilience in the face of adversity. Terry Fox affected the lives of many across the
country. For instance, Terry Fox helped cancer patients by increasing their chances of survival
with the money he raised from the Marathon of Hope (terryfox.org). Terry also gave cancer
patients courage, and inspired hope to see that cancer does not kill their spirit
(rw.runnersworld.com). Furthermore, Terry is an inspiration to cancer researchers, scientists,
clinicians, and countless students across the country. Cancer researcher Dr. Ling, who wears a
Terry Fox T shirt as his pajamas as a reminder of who he is and what he s done, told VICE Sports.
That is the impact that he had on myself (sports.vice.com). Evidently, Terry affected virtually
every Canadian s life. Almost one in every two Canadians is expected to be diagnosed with
cancer in their lifetime, and one in four Canadians will die from the disease (cbc.ca). This means
that nearly every Canadian will be diagnosed with cancer or know someone with

African American Stereotypes In Fences
People are natural evaluators of everything they come across, and they attempt to acquire insights as
they evaluate other people. Stereotypes are the beliefs that people hold concerning other human
groups after gaining insights about them. Racial stereotypes have been common among African
Americans and the whites. In the 20th century, African Americans were stereotyped as
contaminated and dirty by the whites; maybe because of the insufficient income they are said to
earn. The whites also associate African Americans with substance use. Additionally, the Sambo
stereotypeassociates the black community with slavery and simple mindedness. Up to the current
times, movies and other forms of art and literature portray stereotype themes. These stereotypes
have shaped the attitudes of the two groups towards each other since the beginning of the American
history. In his play Fences, August Wilson unveils stereotype of black people.... Show more content

The death of Pope John Paul the II has marked history in our lives and the world. Before
becoming Pope, the young Polish priest visited Padre Pio on numerous occasions and even
receiving confession from him. In 1962, when the young Polish priest received news that a
friend in Poland was seriously ill with throat cancer and had very little chance of survival, he
thought about Padre Pio. He later wrote a letter to Padre Pio in Latin about his friend back in
Poland. Eleven days after Padre Pio received the letter, the future Pope discovered that his friend
was suddenly cured from her illness right before entering the operation room. Many people say
that Padre Pio foretold that Karol Wojtyla was going to become Pope, in which he did and later
canonized Padre Pio a saint in the year 2000 were hundreds of thousands of Catholic pilgrims
traveled to the Vatican to witness this spectacular event. I chose Padre Pio because the capuchin
priest was a very mysterious man. Growing in an Italian family he was a very popular person. After
reading many books about Padre Pio, I can honestly say I have learned a lot of the mystery of God
through him. Saint Pio who bore the wounds of Christ taught many people throughout his day and
continues to teach now that God exists. People use Saint Pio as a verification of the existence of
God because of the mysterious things he accomplished on earth. He received letters from believers

The Literary Modernism Time Period
The literary modernism time period was a movement in literature that started in the early 1890s
and was very eventful. During this era there were many considerable events taking place such as
The Great War (also known as World War One ), which started in 1914. This War lasted for four
years and finally ended in 1918, but its effects lasted much longer. The financial instability of
Europe and death caused by this First World War gave people a sense of patriotism that unified
them. It made people think of not only the society as a whole, but themselves as individuals (
Modernism. ). This new individualist mindset made people think more about their thoughts and

had not dispersed within an hour. They loaded their weapons and positioned themselves in a
defensive form. The mob grew to over 300 angry colonists. In the mob of angry colonist there

he fired his weapon into the crowd. Several other British troops followed his actions, before the

in charge on the day. He insisted that he never gave the order for his troops to fire their guns. Yet at

  • 2. Thoughts on Being Humble What is the purpose of being humble, when should we be humble, and is being humble overrated? Do people only dislike other people for being cocky because they doubt themselves? Personally, I do not mind it much when people brag about what they have achieved or have done. More often than not, I know they never intentionally mean any harm by doing so. Why should I mind? They re only excited about their life, right? It is always easy to remain humble when everything is good and dandy, but the moment someone criticizes them, they tend to withdraw, especially if the person criticizing does so in a tone which may not be soothing enough. I know people who swear on their lives they are humble, yet, they are not. They are so deep in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... We must strive to remember how to behave during tough situations. In contrast, I can understand why it isn t a good idea to be humble also. In other countries, people tend to be less direct, or more humble during business or discussions. America tends to be more direct, and if people who tend to be more direct are less understanding and less able to recognize one who is less direct during a conversation, we must remember that there is a potential that the humble person may be perceived as a weak individual, whether it be physically, mentally, or via business. I propose we be humble, confident, and persistent. We can prove ourselves to ourselves by consistently making things happen by REMEMBERING to take positive action. Let us advance in life by remembering to remain humble during proper moments because it is those moments which shape our destiny. Being humble is the same as having a student mentality, and it is much more difficult to learn when we lack a student mentality. We simply become less receptive to knowledge. Also, you may want to keep in mind that cockiness and talking about what you want to do may cause people to resent you, and people often do not like to see cocky or arrogant individuals rise above levels which they themselves have yet to achieve. It is easier to rise above when we remain humble because people will like us better. Another good reason to be humble is because we never know when the tables ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. South Africa s New Secrecy Bill Putting Country s... South Africa is recognised internationally as a country passionate about upholding its democracy. Last year however, the National Assembly decided to pass a condemned Secrecy Bill, two days prior to Freedom Day, despite citizen s disapprovals. Was the event a mere coincidence or is our country s democracy at stake? The Secrecy Bill, formally known as the Protection of State Information Act, was introduced to replace the apartheid era legislation. It is supposedly an improved legislation which serves to protect sensitive or classified state information against unnecessary disclosure and destruction. It has been noted by the media and even President Jacob Zuma himself that the Bill has some grey areas where national interest remains too vague a reason for keeping information classified. Furthermore, the Secrecy Bill restricts the media s access to government information, offering hefty jail sentences to those who leak the secrets withheld by government. Is that a procedure to protect the state of corruption in our country, or is it to protect the State itself? As far as I am concerned, the Secrecy Bill acts against our constitutional rights. The South African Constitution states that: Everyone has the right of access to any information held by the state. Along with this, the Bill acts against the right to freedom of speech, as the media can no longer publish articles freely. This means that journalists will no longer be able to investigate issues of fraud, theft and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 6. Essay The Closing Down Of Summer Simple recipes by Madeleine Thien, and The Closing Down of Summer by Allister MacLeod both focus on the struggles the characters undergo due to cultural gaps, or being away from home from work, creating the sense of isolation or alienation within their families. The impression of isolation found in the text is generated from the situational behaviours found in the actions, thoughts, or exchange of language in the characters. For Macleod focuses on how his protagonist uses ancestral rituals to find individual fulfillment on the account of his work occupation deteriorating his connection with family. The narrator s perspective of being a parent has deteriorated, resulting in his perception that he s merely become a financial lifeline for his children and spouse. The protagonist s desire to fulfill the role of a father has become an unattainable concept due to the incapability to express his emotional or mental struggles. Macleods protagonist at face first is resilient too the challenges of his isolated work life. Yet the deep desire to express himself to another has become forgotten. This is understood due being surrounded by other workers who have also forgotten to express themselves, making self expression a forgotten skill. • 8. The Battle Of The Soldiers The three Soldiers were able to make it to the coast, they had taken a route that took them around the Marines and 82nd Airborne, while making note of their numbers, vehicles and weapons. They were surprised to find them there, with Second Brigade no place in sight. They entered Baltimore from the north and headed South East, they found much of the city sparse with life, they had found some civilians that had told them of the Supreme General and her Army and how they were defeated. The Soldiers again, found themselves surprised, they were told stories of fighter aircraft coming out of nowhere, and destroying the main base. They were also told of the mighty shells that came in and destroyed the Supreme Generals compound. Following the aircraft and shells came the Marines, fighting anyone that stood in their way, taking back the city. The people they spoke with told them not to get them wrong, they were happy with the actions of the Marines, they cleared out most of the gangs or ran them off. Life had been easier and safer since they came. They also told the three Soldiers that several hundred Marines remained in the city and were securing the port and refineries. That the Marines were being supplemented by the Army, they thought they heard the 82nd Airborne out of Fort Bragg, North Carolina. Adam came into Ms. Erdrich s life when she met her future husband, Michael Dorris, whom had adopted Adamyears before. Though, she never intended to be the mother of a child with physical and mental disorders, she developed a special relationship with her son that came with trials and errors, but also patience and love. It was through the trying times with Adam that Ms. Erdrich resents his biological mother the most. So, where can the line be drawn to either help women with alcoholism refrain from drinking while pregnant, or punish those who just don t care when it comes to their unborn? Should society make laws and imprison a woman for harming her unborn child, but who is to say while jailed she won t drink. Alcohol and drugs pass through prisons easily in these days and if desperate enough a pregnant woman could get her hands on alcohol. • 10. The Power Of Briseis And Agamemnon s Fate The ironic dynamic that Briseis, having no power to control her fate, by simply existing manages to be the first catalyst for Achilles fate contrasts the multitude of times Rebekah accomplishes to act on her own and create events within Genesis. This contrast ultimately exists because Briseis and Rebekah have different feelings of safety and security which allows or prevents them from feeling free to act on their desires. The instance of Briseis not being able to control her fate is within the first book of the poem. Agamemnon, angry that he must give up his geras for the good of the army, fights with Achilles, yelling I m coming to your hut and taking Briseis, / Your own beautiful prize, so that you will see just how much / Stronger I am than you (Il. 1.194 196). Agamemnon abuses his power as the most powerful king in Greece over a matter of pride and uses it against one of the greatest warriors in the army, which makes Agamemnon lose respect of his men. Not one man asks Briseis if she will accept this change as all the men view her as an object for being Achilles geras. How Briseis feels about being passed about is made very clear when the heralds went to her And brought Briseis, cheeks flushed, out of the tent / And gave her to the heralds, who led her away. / She went unwillingly (Il. 1.359 361). Forcing Achilles to give up Briseis also means that Agamemnon takes Achilles honor which he seeks retribution for in a public declaration that When every last Greek ... By helicopter, is the main method these climbers are saved. These rescues are escalating in number each year. Although this method is very expensive, it also very efficient. Less attentive to the dangers, some of the climbers do drastic things because they know that rescue services are just one phone call away. Then, there are climbers who make an endeavor to push that thoughtto the back of their mind. But some people debate whether it still does have an impact on their decisions. Even if they put others in danger, all of these climbers have the right to be saved because the rangers are capable of saving them and the services are skilled enough. The starting reason that people have the rights to be recovered is because the services are capable of saving them. • 12. The Massachusetts Of Massachusetts The Massachusetts Experiment Massachusetts has undergone many changes in their health care system since enacting a universal health care law in 1988. The effects of the Massachusetts health care laws are a good indicator of what people should expect from the enactment of the ACA. The multiple health care reforms in Massachusetts were in an attempt to increase health care coverage while still maintaining financial stability. Background Massachusetts began its health care reform in 1988. Under the direction of Governor Michael Dukakis (D), a universal health care law was enacted through implementation of a play or pay employer mandate; unfortunately this implementation suffered multiple postponements (McDonough, Rosman, Phelps, Shannon, 2006). Some components of the 1988 law were implemented and stand today: the CommonHealth program for Medicaid coverage to disabled adults seeking to work and to certain disabled children, the Medical Security Plan provides coverage to workers who are collecting unemployment compensation, the Healthy Start program provides coverage to lower income pregnant women and new mothers, and the student health insurance mandate (McDonough et al., 2006). The years 1996 to 1997 brought about another wave of health care reform for Massachusetts. The expansions in 1996 and 1997 resulted in an increase in the number of people enrolled in MassHealth (Massachusetts Medicaid program). Common knowledge and internetetiquette (netiquette) teach us essential rules of proper behavior for internet use. Contrary to a criminal trial, if the defendant is found guilty, he/she only needs to pay the ordered compensatory damages to the plaintiff, without the need to spend time incarcerated. There are intentional torts, and torts cause by negligence. The intention here is to enlighten you and your employees of the possible consequences of certain internet usage. There are a number of situations that can bring down a tort civil suit on an employer; among them is sexual harassment, which has become a common phenomenon of the internet as read in this excerpt, Sexual Harassment is the use of sexualized intimidation, insult, and threat to exert control over women. On the Internet, such behavior is more common and more outrageous than in the physical world because of the anonymity of the communications medium and the disproportionate number of men using it (Waerner, 2016). Another cause for torts is dissemination of confidential information; an employee(s) disclosing confidential information pertaining clients through the use of technology, can put an employer a risk for a tort suit. An important thing to remember is that nowadays, most files can be sent electronically, and downloads are enabled with just a click of couple of keys, special care need s to be taken to avoid malware or toher risk associated with viistng at risks sites. Another tort can be for intentional infliction of emotional distress on someone by a person who exhibited severe and outrageous behavior intentionally (Legal Information Institute, 2016). Society has been taught to strive for that and normally perfection is accompanied by a religion that exemplifies it and the reward tends to be unimaginably amazing. Nihilism In Yevgeny Vasilievich Bazarov s Fathers And Sons In the novel, Fathers and Sons , the character Yevgeny Vasilievich Bazarov is perceived to be a strong headed, and intelligent Nihilist who is not afraid to express his beliefs on anyone that dares to question and challenge him about it. He is first introduced in the story by Arkady as a great friend and gives a nice wrap in the first few chapters of the story; giving his father and himself the title of a doctor, who had a special capacity for winning the confidence of lower class people and indeed treated them casually (15). But the story changes him quite a bit when they reveal what he is, Nihilist, who recognizes, nor respects nothing and regards everything from (a) critical point of view (17). Due to this given trait of nihilism, and the way he carries his opinions out to others, I believe the novelplays more against Bazarov rather than for him. Ever since the introduction of him being a Nihilist, Bazarov has been recognized in the story as rude, judgemental, aggressive and hypocritical towards the majority of the characters in the book. His beliefs have also caused him to break bonds, and turned a friendship sour with Arkady. An example of this bond breaking moment could be his moments with Pavel Petrovitch Kirsanov: despite not even having a type of friendly relationship or any to begin with, Bazarov just creates tension between him and Pavel, as he demonstrates his views to Pavel and Nikolai. The model consists of transport equations for plasma density and pressure coupled to a shell model of drift wave turbulence, which incorporates coupling to mesoscale flows via disparate scale interactions. The model can describe the turbulent cascade and its dynamical interplay with zonal and mean shear flows as well as the profile evolution (including the profiles of turbulence intensity itself) due to these self consistent turbulent fluxes. This simple system of equations is shown to capture the low to high confinement (L H) transition. It is also observed that as the heating is increased, the system goes through an intermediate... In particular, the model of Miki et al.7,19,20 has the advantage of including oscillations between two predators (zonal flows and mean flows) and one prey (turbulence) while achieving the L H transition. As such, it is also able to describe an L I H transition (L H transition with an intermediate phase), which was initially predicted by a 0D model.21,22 However in most of the reduced models, the transport coefficients are determined by an ad hoc shear suppression rule. Here we propose an approach based on shell models, where the shear suppression and the predator prey dynamics are natural results of the disparate scale interactions incorporated within the shell model description. The model that is introduced in this paper is interesting for various reasons. It is significant, for instance, in that it makes use of a simple description of turbulence based on shell models, yet it is able to describe the complex interplay between turbulence and zonal flows in a natural self consistent way, without making use of ad hoc steady state relations such as the shear suppression rule. Marriage And The Role Of Women Kate Eickhoff Dr. White IB 11 English 28 November 2016 Marriage Essay During the 14th century, marriage and the role of women in the marriage were very different from today. Most marriages in the 14th century occurred between an older man and a young girl; a girl is usually chosen because they were pure and could produce the most heirs. The bride s family would pay the husband through a dowry, consisting of land, money, or anything of high value. The more unattractive the women were, the more the family would have to pay the husband. Right here, women are already being objectified by their looks. Men want a girl who looks pure and untouched, why would anyone want a dirtied girl. Being someone who was not good looking was an even bigger disgrace since your appearance does not please your husband, you are not doing your job of keeping him happy. Women are often portrayed as an object of men to be bought and fondled with; they are not allowed to control their lives. Geoffrey Chaucer took part in telling the story of how many women acted in the 14th century and how the women were portrayed at this time. Chaucer s views on marriage are made very clear throughout The Canterbury Tales. He used the five marriage tales: The Shipman s Tale, The Wife s Prologue , The Clark s Tale , The Merchant s Tale , and The Franklin s Tale to express his views on marriage, I was struck most strongly by how much he knew about love, about men and women, by the depth and complexity of an ... Each character is unique in the play, avoiding simple stage characters... one [which] is stupid.. one brutal... one jealous... (Strindberg 59). Strindberg avoids the idiotically mathematical (Strindberg 57) ideology where the big eat the small (Strindberg 57), instead employing a variety of characters and plot, which mirror the irregularity of everyday life. Strindberg adds minute details to each character, justifying his premise that [any] event in real life... springs generally from a whole series of motives (Strindberg 58). Several of Miss Julie s motives are attributed to her rearing as her father s mistaken upbringing of the girl (Strindberg 58). Strindberg also corroborates Miss Julie s persona with her own nature... degenerate brain (Strindberg 58), which decides her fate to imitate that of degenerate offspring to succumb [in the end], either because they are ... • 34. Service Learning Individual Reflection During the spring semester of 2015, I took the Service Learning course in psychology (Psych 410). The general structure of this course included attending a 70 minutes long class on Mondays and Wednesdays to learn about service learning from the psychology field perspectives, reading scientific articles, conducting literature reviews to broaden my understanding of the subject, and in class constructive discussions with my colleagues. The course required 50 hours of community service at any local organizations or schools. From February 24 to May 8, I volunteered at the Arc of southern Maryland, an organization that provides residential services for individuals with intellectual disability. This organization has several homes in the Leonardtown area. Each home has four to five residents that are grouped based on the developmental disabilityconditions. As part of the class, I was required to write eight reflection papers about my volunteer site visits that were minimum of one page. Additionally, the class required me to develop a hypothetical program that would be beneficial for the individuals that I worked with. Besides the obvious needs of the extremely needy schools: repairs to the building (proper plumbing, roofing and walls to name a few) and basic supplies (such as books, paper, computers and laboratory tools), the school also needs money in less obvious areas. With more money at its disposal a school can purchase more space and teachers. It has been proven that students learn better (and teachers can teach better) when the class size is limited to under twenty four. This is not possible without financing for a larger school and more teachers to accommodate all the students. A school with larger funds also has the capability to choose better administrators and faculty from a greater selection (they are not limited to those applicants in lower pay brackets). Unhappy employees, who are motivated by fear of job loss, will not give 100 percent of their effort for very long. Though fear is a powerful motivator, it is also a temporary one, and as soon as the threat is lifted performance will decline. Division one athletes are the most likely to be engaged in the college experience than other athletes (NCAA, 2015). One big predictor in the level that student engage in the college experience is whether they view themselves as an athlete or a student (NCAA, 2015). That decision holds implications from there on. • 47. Development of Software Applications Custom decision support system software application The development of software applications is an intricate effort which can be approached from several angles. Four common approaches include prototyping, rapid application development, object oriented analysis and design business process engineering. Each of these methods is characterized by distinctive features, as revealed below. Prototyping Prototyping as an approach to software development represents a mechanism of data visualization, characterized nevertheless by the fact that it is not, in itself, a means of creating the actual software. Prototyping is a complementary solution to actual software development and it allows a prototype of the future software application to be presented to stakeholders for viewing purposes, collection of funds and so on. Prototyping is a useful planning mechanism since it allows for the more accurate creation of estimates, deadlines and deliverables. In addition, the prototyping approach to software also allows the software developers to access and assess the workloads and set feasible tasks (Oxagile, 2013). Rapid application development The rapid application development approach to the creation of software reveals an insignificant emphasis on planning as a process integrant to software development. The developers, as such, quickly set out to create the application (or a prototype of the application) in order to quickly possess a usable product. With rapid application ...
