Direct contact of China and the Philippines existed from at least the
Sung period (960-1279)
Around the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644), the junk trading system
emerge which gave several points in the Philippines regular
commercial and cultural contacts with the Chinese.
In 1594, the Spanish Governor Luiz Perez Dasmariñas created
Binondo as a permanent settlement for Chinese mestizos who
converted to Catholicism. Chinese merchants and traders were free

other parts of the archipelago.
