Essay on The Internet
When historians look back at the latter half of the twentieth century, they might well remember it
less as the time man walked on the moon and more as the time when the Internet was born. The
Advancement Research Projects Agency Network, known as the ARPANET, was developed in the
1960 s by the U.S. Department of Defense. This was the world s first operational informational
sharing network, and the predecessor of what we now call the Internet. Although the creation of the
Internet was primarily to allow the sharing of resources, its true popularity came in the ability to
send and receive mail. This communicationprocess, known as electronic mail or more commonly
referred to as e mail, has now evolved into the most used application on... Show more content on

This technology meant that the conversations that were previously being e mailed and took
seconds to send and receive, were now taking place in real time. Instant Messaging software is
simply a program placed on a computer that connects to an on line service, similar to a phone line
connecting to the operator. This software permits computers to relay conversations over the
Internet, which in turn means two or more people can talk or correspond simultaneously. Instant
Messaging eliminates any delay issues with direct communication; however e mail also evolved
into another forum through Weblogs.
First introduced in the mid to late 1990 s, Weblogs, also referred to as blogs, are Internet
webpages where entries are made similar to a journal or a diary. These personal views or
updates to a particular subject are presented in reverse sequential order. Blogs can cover an array
of topics including food, politics or local news, but most function as more personal online diaries.
A typical blog combines text, images and links to other blogs, web pages and other media related
to its topic. Most blogs are primarily textual and include photographs, videos or audio. Without any
discretion on the choice of topic, the questions becomes why would anyone want to air their
personal problems or desires for everyone to see?
According to an article entitled The Blog Phenomenon, author John Dvorak points out a few
obvious suggestions as to why participants in

Essay about Maytag s Marketing Strategy Plan
Maytag s Marketing Strategy Plan
If asked what you know about Maytag s marketing program, the first thing to come to mind
would probably be its lonely repairman ad campaigns. For 35 years, those ads have helped
position Maytag as a reliable brand for major appliances. Gordon Jump, an actor who really was a
former Maytag repairman, played the lonely repairman role in ads for 14 years. In 2004, another
veteran character actor, Hardy Rawls, took on that job. Although Maytag s basic positioning has
been consistent over many years, marketing managers at Maytag are constantly developing new
marketing strategies. So let s take a closer look at what they did in one innovative strategy planning
process that resulted in profitable growth for ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It tested well on cleaning, but Maytag thought it fell short in improving other customer benefits.
GE was further behind in working on a front loaders. But these were strong competitors, so if
Maytag didn t move quickly they wouldn t get a lead. Maytag formed a cross functional new
product development team to quickly focus the effort. It screened various product ideas and
strategies on criteria such as potential for superior customer value, initial costs, long term
growth, social responsibility, and profitability. Using nearly 40 pieces of consumer research, the
team refined what the strategy might be and what it would cost. Marketers today have better
marketing metrics for measuring the performance of marketing plans. They can use four tools
to check on plan performance: sales analysis, market share analysis, marketing expense to sales
analyss, and financial analysis. Sales analysis consists of measuring and evaluating actual sales
in relation to goals. Market share can be measured in three ways. Overal market share is the
company s sales expressed as a percentage of total market sales. Served market share is its sales
expressed as a percentage of the total sales to its served market. Its served market is all the buyers
who are able and willing to buy its product. And relative market share can be expressed as market
share in relation to its largest competitor. Annual plan control requires making

The National Health Service System
The National Health Service (NHS), established in 1948, is Great Britain s universal health care
system. Unlike that of the USA, the NHS is a single payer system, covering ~100% of if its
citizens and ordinarily residents. While supported by a number of other agencies and public bodies,
the NHS is overseen by the Department of Health, which is responsible for funding of health and
social services and creating policies and legislation. The NHS covers preventative services; inpatient
and outpatient (ambulatory) hospital (specialist) care; physician (general practitioner) services;
inpatient and outpatient drugs, mental health care; learning disabilities; and rehabilitation.
Additionally most prescription drugs are covered (though some are subject to co pay). While the
NHS is free of most specific cost to its citizens, there are limitations of the system in which specific
direct cost to citizens arise. For example, dental, vision, and certain prescription services are not
generally covered by the NHS, although certain exclusions apply in which individuals under the age
of 18 (19 if in school full time) and other specifically qualified individuals may receive such services
reduced or free of charge. (https://www.citizensadvice.org.uk/Documents/Advice%20factsheets

one of the most remembered students out of the Little Rock 9. She arrived at Central alone on the
morning of September 4, 1957. All nine students were supposed to meet and go into the schoolall
together but their meeting place was changed the night before. Her family did not have a phone
and Elizabeth never got the message. When she got dropped off the next morning she was alone.
She attempted to walk onto the campus twice but was turned away by the Arkansas National
Guard. She didn t end up graduating from Central but she was lucky and had taken night courses
so she had enough credits to attend college. She went to Knox College but came back to her
hometown to be with her parents. She ended up getting a Bachelor s in history from Central State
University. After college she served in the army for five years. She worked many jobs during her
life. She was a history teacher, welfare worker, a waitress, an employment interviewer and a
military reporter (Elizabeth, 2012).

warm chicken biscuit to start off their day. A special treat once in a while is always a good thing
before you have to sit in a math class first thing in the morning. Providing a hot breakfast once a

The Cultures Of Iran And The United States
The Cultures of Iran In the last few years we have heard about Iran and their nuclear program.
There has been constant back and forth on Iran getting a nuclear deal done with them saying they
are only building for energy and others, including the United States (U.S.), believing they are trying
to build nuclear weapons. If a deal is not completed and the U.S. has to take military action to stop
the Iranian nuclear program, then the U.S. will have to concentrate on the major characteristics that
define the Iranian culture, how those cultures interact in the joint, multinational, and interagency
(JIIM) community, how the U.S. will concentrate on these cultures in the planning and execution of
company level operations, and how Irans... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Islamic restrictions on dress code and total veiling might have affected the appearance of women in
public, but historical accounts of lavish marriages between Caliphs and their beautiful brides attest
to the diversity of designs, colours and fabrics worn indoors (Price, Culture of Iran ).
From this statement, you can see that the Iranian people believe that covering their women in
public is very important but when it comes to fashion inside their home, their dresses and the fabric
they use in their home can be very colorful.
The personal rituals and celebrations in Iran have many ways but when you look how they look at
life after death, you can tell how serious their culture is towards this area:
Allah is the ultimate source of power. A Muslim s first duty is to submit to God s will, follow
the rules, codes of conduct, and perform the prescribed rituals. For this reason purely ceremonial
prescriptions, such as ablutions before prayer, are put on exactly the same level as
commandments of an elevated moral value, such as that of honesty. Missing prayers (namaz),
avoiding Roozeh (fasting) or drinking wine are regarded as sin. Not adhering to Allah s
commands in itself is an act of sin. Ablutions and rituals, such as prayer (namaz), fasting,
pilgrimage to Mecca and paying the religious tax, are

Republican Wisconsin Senator, Joseph R. Mccarthy Essay
Republican Wisconsin senator, Joseph R. McCarthy, was originally a quiet senator who was
fairly unknown and had done nothing extraordinary previous to 1950. The senator changed all
that when he delivered a speech in February 1950, in which he leveled allegations that the State
Department employed numerous Communists. He claimed to possess a list of these Communist
employees, although that list was never produced (Tindall, George Brown, and David Emory
Shi). Senator McCarthy s attempt to gain publicity with his outlandish accusations worked.
Since the first Red Scare years before the fifties, many Americans continued to be terrified of
Communists and their potential ability to corrupt and overrun America. Senator McCarthy
played on these fears, and he continued to claim communism had infiltrated every aspect of
America; politics, culture and all of American society. Because of the similarity of events from
the first Red Scare, this time period of the early fifties in America is often called the second Red
Scare. The second Red Scare in America s history actually began in the late forties, previous to
McCarthy s emergence in 1950, and it continued on throughout the fifties lasting at least a dozen
years (Storrs, Landon R. Y.) McCarthy s short era during the second Red Scare actually lasted
only four years, but because of his outspoken and arrogant persona, as well as his ability to inflict
fear and persecution on innocent people, this entire span of time went down in the

The Insolvency And Employment Law
The sale or transfer of an insolvent undertaking creates an interaction between differing bodies of
law. The main statutes are the insolvency and employment law, principally although not exclusively
encapsulated by TUPE (TUPE, 2006). The interaction between these laws is of particular interest to
this study. Insolvencylegislation is focussed upon the rescue of the company and employment
legislation is concerned with employee protection.
The interaction between the afore mentioned legislation is inevitable, with the potential for
employment protection and business rescue to be characterised by tensions. Employment law is
intended to ensure protection for the employees existing rights especially in matters relating to
remuneration and can directly interfere with the attempt to transfer the struggling business with
minimal financial liabilities (Thornton, 2014). There is certainly the opportunity for the divergent
intentions to directly conflict during the insolvency related transfer.
Pragmatically, an obvious tangible asset for cost reduction in a business rescue is often jobs. TUPE
restricts the new employer s options and had been described as impinging on new owner s
discretion to make financially cogent decisions (Thornton, 2014), consequently TUPE can also
actually impact on entrepreneurial freedoms. Whilst recognising employee protection is necessary,
if the business is unable to continue then subsequently this results in loss of all jobs. Thus from an

A Collective Identity Of Europe
Post war European nations were faced with the task of restructuring their states after the
devastating war. A collective agreement was made for a political body to help stabilize much of
Europe. The Community provided external political structure that would provide the means
necessary to create a stable economy and develop technologies, but in order to do so there would
need to be a collective identity of Europe. As nationstates were trying to redefine their history and
assert their independence it became a delicate balance between maintaining their own identity and
joining in the Communitythat would impose new regulation but also provide the resources
necessary to rebuild economically. This struggle to maintain a national identity... Show more

The benefit was that nation states could now have their own domestic economy and still benefit
from the advancing international markets that were more accessible.
However, economics cannot be viewed as an independent unit. How the market works is
inadvertently based on a cultural set of ideals and markets can function differently from state to
state. In order to formalize an institution to control the economy new regulations must be set in
place. In the sense of the European Community all nations states had to join together to create a
set of rules that everyone agreed upon. By abiding by new rules nations in return could expect to
benefit from a larger political body. This all sounded very promising, a new and stronger
institution would regulate the economy, and provide security for the vulnerable post war nations.
In doing so, Europe would create a collective identity, a sense of nationality. Although after the war
the idea of a stronger unified economy sounded promising it could also be viewed as a hindrance
in the long term. The European Community s goal was to create a unification of the nation states
but from the viewpoint of a individual state this could be a loss of independence and identity. This
communal identity made western European states resemble each other much more than they
resembled those of other places or other times. The focus was no longer on

4. Advantages of Li Fi
Light has 10000 times wider bandwidth than radio frequency so the capacity of data transfer will
be better than that of Wi Fi.
Instead of using radio wave, Li Fi uses visible light for communication.
Data transmission through Li Fi is very cheap as LED uses very less amount of energy.
Security of a Li Fi network is much better because the light cannot penetrate the walls so no one can
misuse the network.
The shortage issue of radio frequency bandwidth may be solved by using Li Fi.
Using Li Fi each street lamp can be used as a free data access point.
Underwater Wi Fi does not work at all, here Li Fi can be used for data transmission
5. Disadvantages of Li Fi
Although there are lot of advantages of Li Fi there are many challenges that we have to face and
overcome.
The main problem with Li Fi is how the receiver will transfer the data back to the transmitter.
Li Fi works on direct line of sight.

College Basketball Players Should Be Paid
Along with college football, college basketball, particularly division I basketball, is one of the
main sports that many people enjoy watching. During the month of March division I basketball has
a huge men s tournament called March Madness. March Madness brought in $701 million this past
season (Hruby 1). Where does all of that money go if the athletes do not receive any of it? That is
an enormous amount of revenue that division Ibasketballplayers alone brought in just for one year.
Should division I basketball players receive pay for their works on the court? College basketball
players are students and not professional athletes. College basketball players also get
scholarships, so why should they get non educational pay as well ( College Athletes 2)? This
extra pay seems unfair for other students. However, not only do college basketball players have
to focus on their grades and academics, which is a full time commitment, but they also have to
focus on basketball another full time commitment. If the college basketball player does not
perform well in either of these areas they could lose their scholarship money because it can easily
be taken away (Cooper 4). Division I basketball players should be paid and treated equal as other
students.
While they have people that believe division I basketball players should be paid; there are some
people that believe that division one college athlete should not be paid. Ava Cambio, from
Matlacha, Florida, believe that if

Debenhams Tall Structure
This is a tall hierarchy organisation chart of Debenhams, it shows the various levels of employees.
From the chart we can see the span of control is narrow and the chain of command goes
downwards (vertical) this means starting from the top management, down to middle level managers
and ending up at lower staff; it shows who is responsible for who/who reports to who.. A tall
structuremeans lines of communication are longer, so may mean slower response to changes.
However it helps as roles and responsibilities are clearly defined so everyone knows their role, it
also allows close relationships between workers and employees, close supervision and possible for

Power in role culture is decided by their place in the organisation chart.
Role Culture is from the Charles Handy Models of Organisational Culture. Organisations with a
role culture are based on rules. They are highly controlled, with everyone knowing their roles and
responsibilities. Power in a role culture is determined by a person s position (role) in the
organisational structure. (tutor2u, 2017)
Debenhams has a Role Culture because we have several different departments and each department
has a manager that is in charge of that respective department. For example: in the HR department
we ve got a manager that controls our department and team in HR.
This has a positive impact for goals and achievements to be reached as all employees are aware of
their roles and responsibilities.
Role Culture also has a positive impact on staff as it provides stability, security and continuity,
which then lowers stress levels. If staff feel secure happy, they may be more loyal to the company
with a higher morale leading to more productivity and low staff

Montaigne s Skepticism Argument Of Constant Flux
Montaigne s Skepticism Argument of Constant Flux This skeptical argument is based around the
premise that there is no constant existence. This means that there is no unchanging being nor
nonbeing object. Everything is changing, growing, learning, multiplying, and moving. With
constant movement comes constant changeof both the known and the knower, and since there is no
being nor object that does not change, both the person and their judgement continue flowing, which
then allows nothing to be established for certain (MP, 13). Human nature is constantly in the
middle of being born and dying, and are subject to passing from one change to another as humans
grow, learn and change. Everything is either coming into being and growing, making it a current
incomplete substance, or it is beginning to die. An example that helps one to understand this
argument is the concept of a woman birthing a baby boy (MP, 14). This baby is always changing,
every moment of every hour of each day. At first the infantleaves the mother s womb as an
unformed infant, then becomes a suckling infant completely dependent on its mother. He is
continuously learningthat when he is hungry or needs to be changed, he simply needs to cry. He
learns to laugh and make noises, sit up and crawl. Eventually he learns to walk and talk and then
one day the baby boy is not a baby anymore. He is a boy, and then a youth, next a mature man,
then a man, and finally a decrepit aged man (MP, 14). This change seemingly

Brazil s The Unified Health System Essay
In Brazil s recent history, the country s healthcare market has been largely inaccessible to foreign
investment. The country has dedicated public funds to run health care facilities. According to (The
Lancet, 2014), Brazil s 1998 constitution officially declared all citizens were entitled to healthcare.
This provision birthed the Unified Health System (SUS). A system which relies heavily on taxes
and government support. Historically, Brazils government has blocked FDI inflows in the health
sector. However stagnation, combined with a strong desire to spur economic growth, gave way to
a major policy change. As noted by (Alves, 2015), in January 2015 a new provision was enacted by
the Brazilian government to allow foreign investment in the health sector. This landmark policy
alteration may mark the beginning of dramatic increases in the countries Healthcare sector over the
next decade.
Brazil s Healthcare system is divided into public (SUS) and private health coverage. As economic
prosperity increased over the past 20 years, more citizens have opted to purchase better coverage in
the public sector. Now, in 2015, policy reform has opened the door to foreign investors to enter the
market. This includes hospital construction/management, health insurance, even bio technical
research and development. Alves (2015), details the statement from representatives at Chenut

Chaos Theory Essay
Missing Figures
CHAOS
The word chaos, an enigmatic part of the vernacular, means a state without order, or the opposite of
cosmos, an ordered state. Mathematical chaos is instability and unpredictability, often seen in
nature due to its sensitivity to the random disturbances that commonly occur. This is known as
determinism; previous events heavily influence future events, and small changes eventually lead to
larger variations. Philosophically, chaos theoryimplies that everything is connected; our past
actions impact our future. Though chaotic evolution is irregular, there are rules behind its apparent
disorder that are used to study it. Studying chaos may enrich our lives and help us understand more
of our world.

One night, he ran a weather sequence a second time halfway through the regular process in order
to save time. When he came back to look at the computer s output, he saw that the second run had
diverged partway through and looked completely different (Figure 1), simply because he had
inputted a value to three decimal places instead of six.
Fig 1: Lorenz s two weather runs.
According to the present scientific convention, such a small change of one part in a thousand in
initial values should have been inconsequential. Lorenz called this vast change the butterfly effect.
He stated that an event so small as the flap of a butterfly s wings could completely alter a system
such as the atmosphere. Over a long enough period of time, a much larger event would be affected
immense storm that would have happened not happening, or vice versa. However, Lorenz
published his paper discussing this phenomenon in a meteorology journal, and consequently, chaos
theory was not immediately recognized as a new branch of mathematics.
Chaos has an underlying order to it. As PoincarГ© demonstrated, sometimes simple mathematical
equations result in much more chaotic outcomes. Disorder can often be found in the behavior of
difference equations, which model a quantity at some time. In this iterative process, which is truly
deterministic, the value of the term xn+1 is dependent on the value of xn. For example, if we have
the simple difference equation 3

The Benefits of Gum Chewing
Stressed, can t focus, trying to lose weight, suffer from oral health problems or digestive
problems? Simply chewing a piece of gum can help solve any of these issues.
For example, everyone experiences stress at some point in their life. Whether its from school, work,
relationships or life in general. Studies have proven that chewing gum can help relieve stress from
someone who is experiencing either acute or chronic stress. Chewing gum leads to reduced stress
and anxiety, and can elevate mood, improve concentration and enhance performance and alertness.
says Kate Morgan. To demonstrate how chewing gum relieves stress Andrew Scholey, a professor
of Behavioral and Brain Sciences from Swinburne University in Melbourne Australia, did a study
containing forty (Scholey) participants. He used a Defined Intensity Stressor Simulation, a machine
that measures the participants stress, anxiety and alertness levels, before chewing gum and after
chewing gum. Results showed that when chewing gum participants had a reduction in anxiety by
seventeen percent (Scholey) during mild stress and ten percent (Scholey) in moderate stress. They
also had an increase of alertness when they chewed gum by nineteen percent (Scholey) during
mild stress and eight percent (Scholey) in moderate stress. The participants levels of salivary

Analysis Of The Whore Essay
The Whore
I had shared my thoughts with a number of Christians, some of which were inclined to support
Donald Trump in the general election. Sometimes I got the question posed to me: Well, who do
we vote for? Obviously, people of all sorts Christian or not Republican or not were frustrated at the
lack of options. I understand. I was one of them. But for a Christian who has just been told that the
candidate they re planning on voting for is the Antichrist, this takes on a whole other dimension,
not to mention frustration. People were also concerned about Hillary, and rightly so. They were
left with a choice of Armageddon or slow rot. So much is at stake especially the Supreme Court.
I myself was in sort of an odd place. For me, the vote was cast already. I knew who was going to
win. I d often tell people, If you want to vote for Trump, vote for Trump. You ll be voting for the
winner. The voting thing for me wasn t much of an issue.
It s no big secret that the evangelical community played a role in Trump s success at the polls. He
had pretty decent support throughout his campaign; at least so it seemed. I want to address the

A trait is a temporally stable, cross situational individual difference. Presently, for studying
personality traits there are two important models with five factors, Costa Mc Crae s Five Factor

Chemistry 75A
Due: November 18, 2013
Experiment 20: Reactivities of Some Alkyl Halides
Purpose: The purpose of this experiment is to examine the reactivities of various alkyl halides
under both SN2 and SN1 reaction conditions. The alkyl halides will be examined based on the
substrate types and solvent the reaction takes place in.
Procedure: For the first part of this experiment, six dry test tubes were obtained and labeled
accordingly to test the following halides: 2 chlorobutane, 2 bromobutane, 1 chlorobutane, 1
bromobutane, 2 chloro 2 methylpropane, and bromobenzene. To each of the six test tubes 2ml
of 15% sodium iodide in acetone was added. 4 drops of the appropriate halide was added to the
test tube labeled for that specific halide. After adding the halide, the test tube was then shaken to
mix thoroughly. If a precipitate formed the time it took was recorded. Since none of the solutions
formed a precipitate at room temperature after five minutes, the test tubes were placed inside of a
hot bath at about 50В°C. After one minute, the test tubes were taken out of the hot bath and
allowed to cool. If any test tubes formed a precipitate, the time it took was recorded on a table. For
the second part of the experiment, again six dry test tubes were obtained and labeled accordingly to
test the following halides: 2 chlorobutane, 2 bromobutane, 1 chlorobutane, 1 bromobutane, 2 chloro
2 methylpropane, and bromobenzene. To each of the six

Instructional Design Models And Learning Theories Are Used...
Sink, D (2008), claims that Instructional Design Models and Learning Theories are used after the
needs of an organization have been identified (Sink, D. 2008). Instructional Systems Design
Models provide designers effective ways to identify solutions to support the needs of an
organization. This paper will discuss the characteristics of the Experiential LearningModel,
Attention, Relevance, Confidence, Satisfaction Model, and the Gerlach and Ely Models along with
providing a comparison and contrast of these models.
Characteristics of ELM, ARCS, and Gerlach and Ely Models
Experiential Learning Model (ELM): Based on early work from John Dewey, Kurt Lewin, and Jean
Piaget, ELM was developed in 1974 by David A. Kolb and Ron Fry in 1974. This model emphasizes
the idea that learning occurs when the student takes interest in the subject matter and engages in
self initiated learning. Learning is an on going process that is based on experience, interactions with
the environment, and involves obtaining knowledge through social interactions. The ELM is
composed of four elements: Concrete experience, observation and reflection, Forming abstract
concepts, and testing in new situations and five steps which consist of: Experience, Share, Process,
Generalize, and Apply (Moore, Eric T. 2013).
Attention, Relevance, Confidence, and Satisfaction (ARCS) Model: The model was developed by
John Keller in 1979 who believed that motivation of students had direct correlation to their ability to

Simplifying Expressions
While working on this problem I learned a lot about basic properties of addition and
multiplication, such as distributive property, inverse property, commutative properties, etc. What s
common about these problems is the order in which we are going to do the steps. The first step
will always be to remove the parenthesis, which uses the distributive property. Second will always
be combining like terms and adding related coefficients what we have been working on this week
which is dealing with real numbers.
Here is the solution to the first problem:
2a(a 5)+ 4(a 5)
=2aa+2a( 5)+4a 4в‹…5
=2a^2 10a+4a 20
=2a^2 6a 20
The steps used to simplify this equation are as follows:
First I remove all of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Although I still have parentheses in the equation, they are only there to emphasize the negative
numbers.
20.05(0.3m+35n) 0.8( 0.09n 22m) =0.05в‹…0.3m+0.05в‹…35n 0.8в‹…( 0.09n) 0.8в‹…( 22m)
The second step is to figure out the correct coefficients:
0.05в‹…0.3m+0.05в‹…35n 0.8в‹…( 0.09n) 0.8в‹…( 22m)=0.015m+1.75n+0.072n+17.6m
The final step is to find the like terms and then combine them to obtain the simplified form:
0.015m+1.75n+0.072n+17.6m=17.615m+1.822n
The expression is now fully simplified to 17.615m+1.822n
In all three problems in this problem set, I learned how to simplify algebraic expressions using
distributive property and commutative property. In the second problem I used the inverse property
of addition. I noticed that the third problem was different from the first and second problems, in that
in the third problem there were no integer numbers. This whole section is about real numbers so
this problem set teaches us how to operate using both integer and non integer real

Leaders primarily use expert, referent, and reward power to influence members of the in group.
The out group includes followers with few or no social ties to their leader, in a strictly task
centered relationship characterized by low exchange and top down influence. Leaders mostly use
reward, as well as legitimate and coercive power, to influence out group members.
Members of the in group are invited to participate in important decision making, are given added
responsibility, and have greater access to the leader. Members of the out group are managed
according to the requirements of the employment contract. They receive little inspiration,
encouragement, or recognition. In terms of influence and support, in group members experience
greater support and positive influence from the leader, while out group members tend not to
experience positive relationships and influence. The in group versus out group status also reveals
an element of reciprocity or exchange in the relationship. The leader grants special favors to in
group members in exchange for their loyalty, commitment, and outstanding performance. This
creates mutual reinforcement based on common needs and interests.

Leadership Skills to Manage Diversity in the Military
Essay 5: How Do Leaders Manage Diversity In The Military?
Introduction
Given the proliferation of missions that often have multiple objectives aligned to counterterrorism,
humanitarian aid, and national defense, the alacrity at which the armed forces are expected to
integrate and quickly deliver results in a foreign nation is increasing. The cross cultural competency
(3C) model is designed as a foundation for streamlining the cultural assimilation process, providing
leaders and subordinates with a more efficient approach to quickly understanding and become
effective in a culture different than one s own (Abbe, Gulick, Herman, 2007). As the alacrity and
intensity of cultural assimilation is increasing across all branches of the military, combined with
greater levels of mission complexity and required collaboration of foreign governments and
agencies, developing a effective 3C model is essential for mission success. The intent of this
analysis is to provide insights into how leaders can manage diversity more effectively in the
military, especially those called upon to serve in cultures significantly different than one s own.
Training in cross cultural competency often includes references to the Hofstede Model of Cultural
Dimensions and the specific attributes of collectivism versus individuality, two potentially
polarizing aspects of military leadership in foreign regions (Goodman, 2012). The Hofstede Model
of Cultural Dimensions is complimentary ot the 3C Model in that is

Hum 115 Oil Pipeline Research Paper
Oil Pipelines Opposing Viewpoints Clayton Brooks HUM/115 Dr. Disque Oil Pipelines
Opposing View Points Pipeline is the best alternative and safest mode of transporting fuel
compared to freight trains or tanker tracks. However, there are those who argue that it is not safe
because of lack of adequate resources to inspect them, as well as the absence of regulations
regarding the use of a pipeline to transport fuel. Equally important, another issue is the great hazard
to human life and environment that can be difficult to control or eliminate in case of a spill.
Explanation of Two Different Points of View Regarding the Topic Opponents of the use of the

Human Emotion And Its Effect On Human Consciousness
The purpose of life, to some degree, is to seek happiness and to seek out other people to achieve
that happiness. Sigmund Freud developed this idea, which is known as the pleasure principle,
claiming to explain that the human consciousness and subconsciousness revolve around this idea. If
someone is isolated, then they will try to alleviate that suffering in one way or another. Human
emotionis reduced to extremely simple terms, unlike what they truly are, which is extremely
complex. The idea of reducing humans to such a simple understanding seems unfair, but it carries a
sense of truth to it. Every person on Earth is seeking for pleasure, and it carries truth because no
person appreciates the feelingof unpleasantness. Isolation is a defense method against the world to
seek pleasure and to avoid unpleasant feelings in life. Freud believes that everyone attempts to get
away from things that cause us pain and suffering and that everyone feels suffering as a result of
society, but the way people attempt to alleviate this suffering defines us as a person.
Two people could be faced with the death of a close relative, but the one who alleviates his
suffering through drugs is very different from the one who alleviates his suffering through burying
himself in his work. The exploration of Freud s ideas through different characters of the two
stories, Sonny s Blues and Ceremony, reveal that Freud s principles regarding human nature are not
the basis for all human life. Sonny s

Ideas of Parenting
Parenting is different for everyone, but is any one way really better than the other? Amy Chua, a
professor at Yale University, believes that the strict parenting style of Chinese mothers is the way to
go. She believes that her strict and often harsh parenting style contributed to the success of her
daughters. Chinese parents believe that if their children are successful, it is a reflection of the
parents. Hanna Rosin, a contributing editor for the Atlantic, has very different views from Ms.
Chua about the correct parentingstyle. Ms. Rosin believes that the more relaxed, nurturing, and self
led style of Western parenting is the better way to raise children. She believes that placing your

The Western parent allows the child to show interest in a subject or activity, then allows them to
explore this interest, whereas the Chinese style parent chooses school subjects and activities.
Allowing the children to first show interest in an activity helps to set the child up for success. If
the child likes an activity, they are more likely to practice or develop skills because they enjoy
it, and are not being forced into it. This may help their self esteem as well, because they will be
doing something they like, instead of being forced to do something that they may not have a
natural aptitude for and run the risk of failing. In addition to the close development choices of
the Western parent, they try to enhance the social development as well. They do this by sending
the children to sleep away camps, or a friend s house for a sleepover. The Chinese parent doesn t
allow the children to attend sleepovers, school dances, sports events, etc. I think some children of
the Western parents love the way they were raised and allowed to explore and make their own
decisions growing up. I also believe there may be some children of Western parents that wish their
parents had been stricter, or pushed them more when they were younger. There are pros and cons to
both parenting styles. Some pros from both sides are that the children are nurtured, receive all of

The Concise History of the Crusades takes about St. Louis reasoning behind his choice to go to

that similar victories awaited them at Mansurah and Cairo if only they put their trust in God rather

If there is one thing that I have learned through this whole experience, it s that if you film

documentary and follows a cast of dynamic characters through everyday life working at a fictional
paper company called Dunder Mifflin. Two of the quirkiest characters in the show are Michael Scott
, the regional manager, and Dwight Schrute, a paper salesman. At first glance, these characters seem
to share nothing in common; however, when taking a closer look, Dwight and Michael have many
similarities including social abilities, work lives, and emotional connectivity. Michael and Dwight
are similar in that they are both mildly socially detached. This trait contributes to the humor in their

Essay on Contemplating Sartre s No Exit
Contemplating Sartre s No Exit
In No Exit, Sartre provides a compelling answer to the problem of other minds through the
medium of drama. He puts two women (Inez and Estelle) in one hotel room with one man
(Garcin) for all of eternity. This is his concept of hell, and he makes this point in one of the last few
lines of the play: Hell is other people! There are no torture racks or red hot pitchforks in hell
because they re after an economy of man power or devil power if you prefer. Each person is there
(in hell) for a specific reason: Garcin because he cheated on and tormented his wife, Estelle because
she killed her own child and her lover, then committed suicide, and Inez because she tormented
(female) lover until that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is important to note that Garcin s main fear in life was the fear of being cowardly, and this
motivated the majority of his actions, e.g. most of his actions were preformed to demonstrate to
himself and others that he is/was manly ; for instance, his conquests of multiple women, his
domination and degradation of his wife, and the way he courted danger at every turn. However,
he performed a cowardly action (fled the country when war broke out) which, when he was caught,
led to a cowardly death which he defines as merely a physical lapse.
Additionally, Estelle finds another way to seek approval: she needs Garcin s approval (as the only
man there) to establish her superiority over Estelle as an object of desire, by comparison with Inez,
the lesbian.
Finally, Inez does the same thing, although in a different form, as Estelle and Garcin. She seeks
approval over Estelle as a strong, dominant, hones woman, as compared to Estelle, who is a weak,
subservient, dishonest woman. Although Inez criticizes Estelle for having a male dominated
personality (which since Inez is a lesbian, she does not), Inez does not realize that she herself has
an other dominated personality.
No Exit also does a fine job of expressing Sartre s idea of negation in his philosophy of
existentialism. Each person negate the person who is attracted to her through the process of
denying that person. However, each person also negates the person whom the

The Dangers Of The Holocaust
When learning about the Holocaust in school some teachers play videos or show pictures of the
carnage of a concentration camp, all the student really sees are either walking skeletons or dead
skeletons. Some soldiers say they can never forget the smell when they first walked into a camp,
and thousands of people visit the remaining camps and feel as if they are walking through a
cemetery, which they are really. It has been sixty years since the Holocaustended, and over six
million Jewish people died in some of the worst possible ways. There are very few survivors left
today, and even after the camps were liberated the survivors were not treated humanely when they
finally got to return home. After all they went through they should have had more support to help
them after their ordeal, but to this day there are still people that deny that the Holocaust ever
happened. Something as terrifying as the Holocaust should not be questioned because someone
does not believe mankind is that cruel, that they just think survivors were mentally unstable and
wanted to get publicity, and mainly the reason is that they are anti Semitic. A person may not want
to believe that mankind is that cruel, but they have to know that it happened because something
that awful must be known to prevent it from happening again. Deborah Lipstadts podcast, How Do
You Stand Up to a Holocaust Denier, focuses on what a person should do when encountering people
that deny, not just the Holocaust, though that is

Essay on Tragedy in Jewish History
Tragedy in Jewish History
The Jews are a people with a multitude of dilemmas. From the
Israelite tribes to the prosperous modern day Israel , bigotry towards the
Jews has been greatly evident. The Jewish race has acted as Escape Goat for many crisis
throughout history including the black plague which swept across Europe in the 14th century. The
establishment of Israel was a great incident was something the Jewish people were striving to
obtain for generations. This, however, led to four major conflicts between Israel and the Arab
countries. One of the most meaningful wars was the Six Day War.
Events such as the holocaust have also had a dramatic effect on world history and whose mysteries
are still being unravelled. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This uprising was led by the Maccabees, a provincial priestly family
(also called Hasmoneans). They recaptured the Temple and rededicated it to the God of Israel.
The Maccabees made there last stand on a mountain and was able to hold back the syrians for
more then a month. There is a distinct similarity between the two stories and that is possibly why
they are both recognised as holidays in the Jewish faith.
These horrific events of the holocaust have let to some consequences which are beneficial and
some are unfortunate to the Jewish people. The population of the followers has greatly declined.
Also the Jewish people after the war still had problems finding jobs. They had to essentially start
there life over. Most of them lost a close relative or at least knew someone who died in the gas
chambers of the Nazi concentration camps. This has put a psychological strain on Jewish
survivors or no longer having family and friends with them for support. This event has awaken the
world up to the needs of the Jewish people. It has given them political power and a justification for
some of their actions.
On May recognized,1945 ,the end of World War II was seen. Organized

Exploring Soft Skills
During the interview process, many candidates feel pressured to only focus on their hard skills.
While it s important to highlight these skills, it s even more impressive when you can explain to
the interviewer your soft skills and strengths that relate to the position. Soft skills are the
qualities that can set you apart from other candidates when applying for a job. Although it s
necessary to have the desired knowledge and experience in order to qualify for the position, the
manner in which you apply your experience in the workplace is what makes you stand out.
Hiring managers want to know if you have the ability to lead, collaborate, and listen to others.
Essentially, they want to be positive you are truly the right fit for their company. If you re
wondering how you can sell your soft skills during your next interview, check out these helpful
tips: Select Your Best Skills To prove you have the right soft skills for the position, you must
carefully select... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Remember, you want to sell your soft skills in a way that will catch the hiring manager s
attention. Many people overlook the power of soft skills, so if you can use examples from your
experience to support them, it will make you a much stronger candidate for the position. To
illustrate your soft skills, you want to use a situation from your experience to support your
abilities. You could also select an accomplishment story to serve as an example, too. First, you
want to make sure you describe the situation or event where you had to utilize your soft skills.
Explain to the interviewer the specific skills you used and how you had to implement them. After
you describe the scenario, explain the positive outcome of the event. This way, the hiring manager
will know exactly what you have to offer and how your soft skills and strengths can make a
positive impact on their company. Explain

Caribbean Piracy
Piracy of the Caribbean It seems to be common knowledge that murder, thievery, and full blown
naval warfare supposedly plagued the Caribbean Sea from the 1600 s to the 1800 s. Countless
tons of priceless goods such as spices, gems, rare metals, and silks were snatched right from under
merchant noses (Hanna 42). Goods that were the basis of Triangle Trade economies, goods such
as sugar, tobacco, weapons, cotton, and sadly the lives of enslaved humans (which were considered
commodities and goods), were being spirited away at the great misfortune of the commercial based
nations (Lane). National tensions were climbing higher and higher. Allegedly this could all be
blamed upon piracy, buccaneering, and privateering being at an all time high; this earned the time
period the monomer of The Golden Age of Piracy (Benjamin). And yet, despite all the terror and
disorder previously descried, these pirates generally had a considerably better effect (maybe even a
net good effect) on the general state of... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Mascot Analysis
Rationale, explanation of interest, or area of focus
This analysis will focus on the importance of mascots for the selected institutions and how they
relate to the normal livelihoods of the students in both universities. The term mascot is used to refer
to an animal, a person or object that is believed to bring some sense of good luck in various
perspectives. It is a term and phenomenon that has been consistently used through history to relate
to the success of various institutional activities, especially in the sports arena. Institutions with
mascots tend to have a deep history in terms of its selection and related significance. The two
selected universities in this assessment have peculiar mascot symbols that have been used for many
years to derive distinct meanings that represent respective cultures. ... Show more content on

Since then, the institution has passed a joint ideology about the nocturnal bird to its students with
emphasis put on how it represents a sense of knowledge and wisdom thus a perfect symbol to use in
any center of learning (Temple University, 2015). Also, the owl mascot has been attributed to the
goddess Athena, who is mythically known for her wisdom, knowledge, arts, skills and precision in
warfare. From nature s perspective, the owl is deemed a resourceful, perceptive, courageous and
fierce fighter. These attributes have been prescribed to the university students for years with an
objective of building a learning culture in the institution. The main problem noted with the
perception created for this mascot is that the university has not reiterated on how the symbol can be
incorporated to ensure success in the extra curriculum activities. The university is not famous or
well established in sporting events, and this can be attributed to the message passed by the
institution to the students (Owlsports,

History Of The Penobscout Building
After Detroit rebuilt in the early 19th century, a thriving community soon sprang up. By the Civil
War, over 45,000 people were living in the city and were primarily spread along Jefferson Avenue to
the east and Fort Street to the west. The street starts in the heart of Detroit Financial District, where
it is dominated by skyscrapers. This includes the Penobscout Building, an office tower, that was
built in 1928. Upon completion, the building was the eighth tallest building in the world, the fourth
tallest in America and the tallest outside of New York and Chicago. It was the tallest building in
Michigan until 1977 after the construction of the Renaissance Center hoteltower. The building is
named for the Penobscot, a Native American Tribe

Pope Gregory’s America
In 1591, Pope Gregory XIV fell ill with a gall stone to which his physicians prescribed pulverized
gold and gemstones. As one might assume, he soon died of complications regarding his gall
stone; however, because his medicine was literally money, the Papal coffers were depleted and
Pope Gregory was interred in an non descript stone coffin in the Vatican. According to one Papal
historian, he was surrounded by stupid physicians or culpable ministers (de Montor 218). In the
United States, we ve been prescribed a cocktail of healthcare systems that have been depleted our
coffers while failing to provide adequate care. Fifteen percent of the American population is

This combination of models results in a disorganized system that increases costs and fails to
maintain human health. By looking at international examples, one can find numerous areas in
which the American system (or systems) fails in comparison to universal systems. Across our
northern border we find a neighbor with universal health care as well as better access to care. Seven
percent of Americans and less than 1% of Canadians were prevented from care because of
financial reasons. U.S. residents are a third less likely to have a regular physician, a fourth more
likely to not meet medical needs, and twice as likely to forgo needed medicine. Across the board,
uninsured Americans have less access to care as well as less satisfaction regarding their care
(Himmelstein, Lasser, and Woolhandler 1303). In comparison to our northern neighbor, who has
similar culture and values, we can see a universal health care system would drastically improve
our access to care. Even if a comparison isn t enough, one can see the impacts of universal health
care in Taiwan, where a National Health Insurance model was recently implemented. Over the
implementation of the system, hospital admission rates increased from 110 admissions per 1,000
people in 1994 to 120 admission in 1996 (Lu and Hsiao 80 81). Looking back to comparisons, the
argument holds true with other countries as well. In a World Health Organization rating of quality

them for as long as they want. Three DVD s can be out at a time, as soon as one is returned the

The video rental stores such as Blockbuster and Hollywood Video have suffered from dramatic
drops in VHS rental spending. But new companies such as Netflix have enjoyed strong growth.
Ticket sales for movie theaters are down nearly 6% since 2002. This is due in part by some
movie goers deciding to pass on the theatre and wait for the DVD. This is because the average
price of a ticket is over $6 today and some markets charge up to $10. With the cost of a DVD
falling toward the $15 price range, and unlimited rentals for under $20, many people are opting for
the convenience and savings of skipping the theatre.
The television industry has found that consumer spending on TV programs on DVD can reach $5
million per episode. With programming costs sky rocketing this revenue will change program
development and ownership patterns.
Hollywood studios are the big winners in the new industry trend. Their home video business is now
called home entertainment, and since 2002 has been increasing its focus on the DVD format. This
may be the reasoning behind the DVD releases of blockbuster movies shortly after their theatre run.
DVD s continue to grow more popular with existing users and in 2005 DVD s are expected to
convert more than 15,000 new households to its format every day. These new customers will bring

nations. Religion has always had a powerful effect on nations, even more so than the military or the

Krios, Koios, Hyperion and Iapetos were posted at the four corners of the world where they
seized hold of the Sky god and held him fast, while Kronos, hidden in the centre, castrated him
with a sickle. In this myth, Iapetos and the three brothers represent the four cosmic pillars which
appear in Near Eastern cosmogonies holding heaven and earth apart. Iapetos himself was no
doubt the pillar of the west, a position which was later and more obviously held by his son Atlas.
Iapetos the piercer may also have been regarded as the Titan god of the mortal life span. Indeed, his
sons Prometheus and Epimetheus were represented as the creators of mankind and other mortal
creatures.
Iapetos may have been the Titan god who presided over the mortal life span who assigned mortal
creatures their finite lot. Like his brother Titanes, he was a god of time, one of the sons of
Ouranos, the great dome of heaven which measured all of time. Iapetos, as one of the more
destructive Titanes, is described by Homer seated beside Kronos (all devouring time) in the depths
of the Tartarean pit. Iapetos and his bride Klymene might have been conceived with a variety of
functions. Firstly, as the god of mortality, Iapetos is the piercer, the god of violent death. His wife
Klymene, in this sense, would naturally be a chthonian (or netherworld) goddess, and indeed, the

Theme Of Social Norms In The Tempest
Whether one realizes it or not, the world we live in is governed by certain expectations and
unwritten rules that our society creates. These expected behaviors are called norms. When one
establishes the role that they play in society, they are governed by the expectations that society
places on that specific role. Norms give order to a society, but is that enough to say that they are
good for citizens? Are these norms needed to govern our behavior in a way that our government
cannot? Social norms and the effect that they can have on a person or group of people is shown
through Shakespeare s The Tempest. The characters in The Tempest are negatively affected by the

He encouraged two other men to join him, Stephano, a butler, and Trinculo, a jester. All three of

this man: his daughter and I will be king and queen, save our graces! and Trinculo and thyself
shall be viceroys (Act 3 Scene 2 Lines 106 108). Before they got the chance to kill, Prospero
caught them, proving society s power, once again, to be too strong. Many times, Stephano and
Trinculo talked about how they would break from their low place in society. At the end of the
story, however, they find themselves stuck under King Alonso s power, just as they were before
the shipwreck. Despite all of their efforts, Stephano, Trinculo, and Caliban all were stuck in their
low place in society. In the same fashion, Prospero had also been told by society that the only
way he could live a good and prosperous life was to get his dukedom back. Without this fancy

The Process of Packet Meat in Wenonah HauterВґs Foodpoly Essay
We do not take in consideration on where our meat comes from and how they treat the animals.

misrepresentation on what truly happens in the meatpackingindustry, hog industry, the impact on
small farmers, and how the working conditions are for the meat packing industryworkers. World
Wide Sires, Cooperative Resources International, and ABS Global are the three companies that
dominate the meat packaging industry. Hauter (2012) argues that over the past two decades meat

The fumes and accumulating waste that is pumped into lagoons are constantly leaking out and
are polluting the local waterways. The pollutions and fumes are also causing people to become
sick and choke from the toxic air. In 1992, family farms would control seventy percent of the
hogs that were raised on their farms for consumption (173). By the year of 2007, ninety five
percent of the hog productions were from factory farms (173). This only left 5 percent to small
family farms to raise their animals in the way they want it to be. Hauter (2012) argues the number

The Music Shaping Our Society
When you turn on the radio and change it to your favorite station, what are most of the songs
about? In today s society, the majority of them are probably about sex, drugs, and alcohol. These
are the principles mainstream singers like Lil Wayne, Drake and Nicki Minaj are pounding into
young people s minds. Instead of directing their music negatively, these artists should try to
encourage respectable behavior among our youth. I believe that the negative lyrics in many popular
contemporary songs have a negative influence on the youth of America. Many artists encourage

Look at the statistics on the number of teenage pregnancies in the United States compared to those
of earlier times. Drug and alcohol abuse in the United States has also increased over the years
and the ages seem to be getting younger. All of these things are very depressing and really make
me worry how the next generation will be if ours is this bad. Sadly, we are the only ones to
blame for the way our nation is becoming, but the people we idolize play a huge role in the way
we portray ourselves as a nation. It s no shock that many of today s popular artists are
influencing the youth of America negatively through their lyrics and the way they present
themselves. If these young pop artists would realize how much influence they had on our youth,
they could really make a change for the better. Gerald Graff s article Hidden Intellectualism
backs up this statement and gives an excellent concept that these young artists should follow. In
the article Hidden Intellectualism, Graff states that it doesn t matter what you re interested in, as
long as you use what you find interesting and look at it through academic eyes (385). I believe
that the following artists use Graff s idea and apply it not only to their song lyrics, but also their
way of life. Artists like Bono, Taylor Swift, and Justin Bieber are constantly giving to charity and
setting good examples for their peers. More pop singers

Medical Experiments During Ww2
Throughout WW2, the Nazis conducted many experiments on prisoners in the concentration
camps. The experiments were extremely brutal to the persons being experimented on. Many of
these doctors used their authority to justify the means of their research . There are various different
experiments that were conducted for supposed benefit to the German army. Experiments conducted
by Nazis were inhumane and traumatizing to those lucky enough to survive. Although the
experiments done on humans during WW2 were absurd, there are some factors that were
beneficial. Some of the data recorded by the Nazis is used in many scientists works today. For
example, Nazi hypothermia studies, for instance, have been cited in the medical literature for
decades, and recently several scientists have sought to use the data in their own work (Tyson).
Another compelling argument regarding the injustices done to the prisoners revolves around the
Nuremberg trials. After the war, the Nuremberg trials were held for the purpose of bringing Nazi
war criminals to justice (Nuremberg Trials). Laws were also made after the Holocaust to protect
human test subjects of future experiments. On the contrary to the dreadful things done to the
prisoners, few relevant points are presented as positive outcomes.... Show more content on

  • 2. Essay on The Internet When historians look back at the latter half of the twentieth century, they might well remember it less as the time man walked on the moon and more as the time when the Internet was born. The Advancement Research Projects Agency Network, known as the ARPANET, was developed in the 1960 s by the U.S. Department of Defense. This was the world s first operational informational sharing network, and the predecessor of what we now call the Internet. Although the creation of the Internet was primarily to allow the sharing of resources, its true popularity came in the ability to send and receive mail. This communicationprocess, known as electronic mail or more commonly referred to as e mail, has now evolved into the most used application on... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This technology meant that the conversations that were previously being e mailed and took seconds to send and receive, were now taking place in real time. Instant Messaging software is simply a program placed on a computer that connects to an on line service, similar to a phone line connecting to the operator. This software permits computers to relay conversations over the Internet, which in turn means two or more people can talk or correspond simultaneously. Instant Messaging eliminates any delay issues with direct communication; however e mail also evolved into another forum through Weblogs. First introduced in the mid to late 1990 s, Weblogs, also referred to as blogs, are Internet webpages where entries are made similar to a journal or a diary. These personal views or updates to a particular subject are presented in reverse sequential order. Blogs can cover an array of topics including food, politics or local news, but most function as more personal online diaries. A typical blog combines text, images and links to other blogs, web pages and other media related to its topic. Most blogs are primarily textual and include photographs, videos or audio. Without any discretion on the choice of topic, the questions becomes why would anyone want to air their personal problems or desires for everyone to see? According to an article entitled The Blog Phenomenon, author John Dvorak points out a few obvious suggestions as to why participants in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Essay about Maytag s Marketing Strategy Plan Maytag s Marketing Strategy Plan If asked what you know about Maytag s marketing program, the first thing to come to mind would probably be its lonely repairman ad campaigns. For 35 years, those ads have helped position Maytag as a reliable brand for major appliances. Gordon Jump, an actor who really was a former Maytag repairman, played the lonely repairman role in ads for 14 years. In 2004, another veteran character actor, Hardy Rawls, took on that job. Although Maytag s basic positioning has been consistent over many years, marketing managers at Maytag are constantly developing new marketing strategies. So let s take a closer look at what they did in one innovative strategy planning process that resulted in profitable growth for ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It tested well on cleaning, but Maytag thought it fell short in improving other customer benefits. GE was further behind in working on a front loaders. But these were strong competitors, so if Maytag didn t move quickly they wouldn t get a lead. Maytag formed a cross functional new product development team to quickly focus the effort. It screened various product ideas and strategies on criteria such as potential for superior customer value, initial costs, long term growth, social responsibility, and profitability. Using nearly 40 pieces of consumer research, the team refined what the strategy might be and what it would cost. Marketers today have better marketing metrics for measuring the performance of marketing plans. They can use four tools to check on plan performance: sales analysis, market share analysis, marketing expense to sales analyss, and financial analysis. Sales analysis consists of measuring and evaluating actual sales in relation to goals. Market share can be measured in three ways. Overal market share is the company s sales expressed as a percentage of total market sales. Served market share is its sales expressed as a percentage of the total sales to its served market. Its served market is all the buyers who are able and willing to buy its product. And relative market share can be expressed as market share in relation to its largest competitor. Annual plan control requires making ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. The National Health Service System The National Health Service (NHS), established in 1948, is Great Britain s universal health care system. Unlike that of the USA, the NHS is a single payer system, covering ~100% of if its citizens and ordinarily residents. While supported by a number of other agencies and public bodies, the NHS is overseen by the Department of Health, which is responsible for funding of health and social services and creating policies and legislation. The NHS covers preventative services; inpatient and outpatient (ambulatory) hospital (specialist) care; physician (general practitioner) services; inpatient and outpatient drugs, mental health care; learning disabilities; and rehabilitation. Additionally most prescription drugs are covered (though some are subject to co pay). While the NHS is free of most specific cost to its citizens, there are limitations of the system in which specific direct cost to citizens arise. For example, dental, vision, and certain prescription services are not generally covered by the NHS, although certain exclusions apply in which individuals under the age of 18 (19 if in school full time) and other specifically qualified individuals may receive such services reduced or free of charge. (https://www.citizensadvice.org.uk/Documents/Advice%20factsheets /Health/h nhs dental treatment.pdf) Additionally, such exclusions include: For dental care, individuals who are pregnant or have given birth within the last 12 months, admitted to or receiving outpatient dental care ... He was the director for the A. Philip Randolph Education Fund for nine years. He then worked as the Assistant Secretary of Labor. Lastly he joined the Lehman Brothers at an investment banking firm as a senior managing director (Ernest, 2013). Elizabeth Eckford was one of the most remembered students out of the Little Rock 9. She arrived at Central alone on the morning of September 4, 1957. All nine students were supposed to meet and go into the schoolall together but their meeting place was changed the night before. Her family did not have a phone and Elizabeth never got the message. When she got dropped off the next morning she was alone. She attempted to walk onto the campus twice but was turned away by the Arkansas National Guard. She didn t end up graduating from Central but she was lucky and had taken night courses so she had enough credits to attend college. She went to Knox College but came back to her hometown to be with her parents. She ended up getting a Bachelor s in history from Central State University. After college she served in the army for five years. She worked many jobs during her life. • 6. Biscuit Persuasive Speech We live in a world where getting out of bed is a struggle but we all know, no one can say no to a warm chicken biscuit to start off their day. A special treat once in a while is always a good thing before you have to sit in a math class first thing in the morning. Providing a hot breakfast once a month would get students excited and even bring in a little extra cash for the school. Kids love anything that comes from Chick Fil A and would be ecstatic at the sound of having the opportunity to buy their own biscuit from Chick Fil A right here at school. Where though? you might ask, Right here in the school kitchen. The biscuits could be served over the counter where the microwaves are located. A regular biscuit from Chick Fil A cost around ... • 7. The Cultures Of Iran And The United States The Cultures of Iran In the last few years we have heard about Iran and their nuclear program. There has been constant back and forth on Iran getting a nuclear deal done with them saying they are only building for energy and others, including the United States (U.S.), believing they are trying to build nuclear weapons. If a deal is not completed and the U.S. has to take military action to stop the Iranian nuclear program, then the U.S. will have to concentrate on the major characteristics that define the Iranian culture, how those cultures interact in the joint, multinational, and interagency (JIIM) community, how the U.S. will concentrate on these cultures in the planning and execution of company level operations, and how Irans... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Islamic restrictions on dress code and total veiling might have affected the appearance of women in public, but historical accounts of lavish marriages between Caliphs and their beautiful brides attest to the diversity of designs, colours and fabrics worn indoors (Price, Culture of Iran ). From this statement, you can see that the Iranian people believe that covering their women in public is very important but when it comes to fashion inside their home, their dresses and the fabric they use in their home can be very colorful. The personal rituals and celebrations in Iran have many ways but when you look how they look at life after death, you can tell how serious their culture is towards this area: Allah is the ultimate source of power. A Muslim s first duty is to submit to God s will, follow the rules, codes of conduct, and perform the prescribed rituals. For this reason purely ceremonial prescriptions, such as ablutions before prayer, are put on exactly the same level as commandments of an elevated moral value, such as that of honesty. Missing prayers (namaz), avoiding Roozeh (fasting) or drinking wine are regarded as sin. Not adhering to Allah s commands in itself is an act of sin. • 8. Republican Wisconsin Senator, Joseph R. Mccarthy Essay Republican Wisconsin senator, Joseph R. McCarthy, was originally a quiet senator who was fairly unknown and had done nothing extraordinary previous to 1950. The senator changed all that when he delivered a speech in February 1950, in which he leveled allegations that the State Department employed numerous Communists. He claimed to possess a list of these Communist employees, although that list was never produced (Tindall, George Brown, and David Emory Shi). Senator McCarthy s attempt to gain publicity with his outlandish accusations worked. Since the first Red Scare years before the fifties, many Americans continued to be terrified of Communists and their potential ability to corrupt and overrun America. Senator McCarthy played on these fears, and he continued to claim communism had infiltrated every aspect of America; politics, culture and all of American society. Because of the similarity of events from the first Red Scare, this time period of the early fifties in America is often called the second Red Scare. The second Red Scare in America s history actually began in the late forties, previous to McCarthy s emergence in 1950, and it continued on throughout the fifties lasting at least a dozen years (Storrs, Landon R. Y.) McCarthy s short era during the second Red Scare actually lasted only four years, but because of his outspoken and arrogant persona, as well as his ability to inflict fear and persecution on innocent people, this entire span of time went down in the ... • 9. The Insolvency And Employment Law The sale or transfer of an insolvent undertaking creates an interaction between differing bodies of law. The main statutes are the insolvency and employment law, principally although not exclusively encapsulated by TUPE (TUPE, 2006). The interaction between these laws is of particular interest to this study. Insolvencylegislation is focussed upon the rescue of the company and employment legislation is concerned with employee protection. The interaction between the afore mentioned legislation is inevitable, with the potential for employment protection and business rescue to be characterised by tensions. Employment law is intended to ensure protection for the employees existing rights especially in matters relating to remuneration and can directly interfere with the attempt to transfer the struggling business with minimal financial liabilities (Thornton, 2014). There is certainly the opportunity for the divergent intentions to directly conflict during the insolvency related transfer. Pragmatically, an obvious tangible asset for cost reduction in a business rescue is often jobs. TUPE restricts the new employer s options and had been described as impinging on new owner s discretion to make financially cogent decisions (Thornton, 2014), consequently TUPE can also actually impact on entrepreneurial freedoms. Whilst recognising employee protection is necessary, if the business is unable to continue then subsequently this results in loss of all jobs. Thus from an external ... • 10. A Collective Identity Of Europe Post war European nations were faced with the task of restructuring their states after the devastating war. A collective agreement was made for a political body to help stabilize much of Europe. The Community provided external political structure that would provide the means necessary to create a stable economy and develop technologies, but in order to do so there would need to be a collective identity of Europe. As nationstates were trying to redefine their history and assert their independence it became a delicate balance between maintaining their own identity and joining in the Communitythat would impose new regulation but also provide the resources necessary to rebuild economically. This struggle to maintain a national identity... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The benefit was that nation states could now have their own domestic economy and still benefit from the advancing international markets that were more accessible. However, economics cannot be viewed as an independent unit. How the market works is inadvertently based on a cultural set of ideals and markets can function differently from state to state. In order to formalize an institution to control the economy new regulations must be set in place. In the sense of the European Community all nations states had to join together to create a set of rules that everyone agreed upon. By abiding by new rules nations in return could expect to benefit from a larger political body. This all sounded very promising, a new and stronger institution would regulate the economy, and provide security for the vulnerable post war nations. In doing so, Europe would create a collective identity, a sense of nationality. Although after the war the idea of a stronger unified economy sounded promising it could also be viewed as a hindrance in the long term. The European Community s goal was to create a unification of the nation states but from the viewpoint of a individual state this could be a loss of independence and identity. This communal identity made western European states resemble each other much more than they resembled those of other places or other times. The focus was no longer on ... Instead of using radio wave, Li Fi uses visible light for communication. Data transmission through Li Fi is very cheap as LED uses very less amount of energy. Security of a Li Fi network is much better because the light cannot penetrate the walls so no one can misuse the network. The shortage issue of radio frequency bandwidth may be solved by using Li Fi. Using Li Fi each street lamp can be used as a free data access point. Underwater Wi Fi does not work at all, here Li Fi can be used for data transmission 5. Where does all of that money go if the athletes do not receive any of it? That is an enormous amount of revenue that division Ibasketballplayers alone brought in just for one year. Should division I basketball players receive pay for their works on the court? College basketball players are students and not professional athletes. College basketball players also get scholarships, so why should they get non educational pay as well ( College Athletes 2)? This extra pay seems unfair for other students. However, not only do college basketball players have to focus on their grades and academics, which is a full time commitment, but they also have to focus on basketball another full time commitment. If the college basketball player does not perform well in either of these areas they could lose their scholarship money because it can easily be taken away (Cooper 4). Division I basketball players should be paid and treated equal as other students. While they have people that believe division I basketball players should be paid; there are some people that believe that division one college athlete should not be paid. From the chart we can see the span of control is narrow and the chain of command goes downwards (vertical) this means starting from the top management, down to middle level managers and ending up at lower staff; it shows who is responsible for who/who reports to who.. A tall structuremeans lines of communication are longer, so may mean slower response to changes. However it helps as roles and responsibilities are clearly defined so everyone knows their role, it also allows close relationships between workers and employees, close supervision and possible for more upward growth for employees. Role Culture is from the Charles Handy Models of Organisational Culture. Organisations with a role culture are based on rules. (tutor2u, 2017) Debenhams has a Role Culture because we have several different departments and each department has a manager that is in charge of that respective department. For example: in the HR department we ve got a manager that controls our department and team in HR. This has a positive impact for goals and achievements to be reached as all employees are aware of their roles and responsibilities. • 17. Montaigne s Skepticism Argument Of Constant Flux Montaigne s Skepticism Argument of Constant Flux This skeptical argument is based around the premise that there is no constant existence. This means that there is no unchanging being nor nonbeing object. Everything is changing, growing, learning, multiplying, and moving. With constant movement comes constant changeof both the known and the knower, and since there is no being nor object that does not change, both the person and their judgement continue flowing, which then allows nothing to be established for certain (MP, 13). Human nature is constantly in the middle of being born and dying, and are subject to passing from one change to another as humans grow, learn and change. Everything is either coming into being and growing, making it a current incomplete substance, or it is beginning to die. An example that helps one to understand this argument is the concept of a woman birthing a baby boy (MP, 14). This baby is always changing, every moment of every hour of each day. At first the infantleaves the mother s womb as an unformed infant, then becomes a suckling infant completely dependent on its mother. He is continuously learningthat when he is hungry or needs to be changed, he simply needs to cry. He learns to laugh and make noises, sit up and crawl. Eventually he learns to walk and talk and then one day the baby boy is not a baby anymore. He is a boy, and then a youth, next a mature man, then a man, and finally a decrepit aged man (MP, 14). • 18. Brazil s The Unified Health System Essay In Brazil s recent history, the country s healthcare market has been largely inaccessible to foreign investment. The country has dedicated public funds to run health care facilities. According to (The Lancet, 2014), Brazil s 1998 constitution officially declared all citizens were entitled to healthcare. This provision birthed the Unified Health System (SUS). A system which relies heavily on taxes and government support. Historically, Brazils government has blocked FDI inflows in the health sector. However stagnation, combined with a strong desire to spur economic growth, gave way to a major policy change. As noted by (Alves, 2015), in January 2015 a new provision was enacted by the Brazilian government to allow foreign investment in the health sector. This landmark policy alteration may mark the beginning of dramatic increases in the countries Healthcare sector over the next decade. Brazil s Healthcare system is divided into public (SUS) and private health coverage. As economic prosperity increased over the past 20 years, more citizens have opted to purchase better coverage in the public sector. Now, in 2015, policy reform has opened the door to foreign investors to enter the market. This includes hospital construction/management, health insurance, even bio technical research and development. • 19. Chaos Theory Essay Missing Figures CHAOS The word chaos, an enigmatic part of the vernacular, means a state without order, or the opposite of cosmos, an ordered state. Mathematical chaos is instability and unpredictability, often seen in nature due to its sensitivity to the random disturbances that commonly occur. This is known as determinism; previous events heavily influence future events, and small changes eventually lead to larger variations. Philosophically, chaos theoryimplies that everything is connected; our past actions impact our future. Though chaotic evolution is irregular, there are rules behind its apparent disorder that are used to study it. Studying chaos may enrich our lives and help us understand more of our world. When he came back to look at the computer s output, he saw that the second run had diverged partway through and looked completely different (Figure 1), simply because he had inputted a value to three decimal places instead of six. Fig 1: Lorenz s two weather runs. According to the present scientific convention, such a small change of one part in a thousand in initial values should have been inconsequential. Lorenz called this vast change the butterfly effect. He stated that an event so small as the flap of a butterfly s wings could completely alter a system such as the atmosphere. Over a long enough period of time, a much larger event would be affected immense storm that would have happened not happening, or vice versa. However, Lorenz published his paper discussing this phenomenon in a meteorology journal, and consequently, chaos theory was not immediately recognized as a new branch of mathematics. Chaos has an underlying order to it. As PoincarГ© demonstrated, sometimes simple mathematical equations result in much more chaotic outcomes. Disorder can often be found in the behavior of difference equations, which model a quantity at some time. In this iterative process, which is truly deterministic, the value of the term xn+1 is dependent on the value of xn. For example, if we have the simple difference equation 3 , or ... Simply chewing a piece of gum can help solve any of these issues. For example, everyone experiences stress at some point in their life. Whether its from school, work, relationships or life in general. Studies have proven that chewing gum can help relieve stress from someone who is experiencing either acute or chronic stress. Chewing gum leads to reduced stress and anxiety, and can elevate mood, improve concentration and enhance performance and alertness. says Kate Morgan. To demonstrate how chewing gum relieves stress Andrew Scholey, a professor of Behavioral and Brain Sciences from Swinburne University in Melbourne Australia, did a study containing forty (Scholey) participants. He used a Defined Intensity Stressor Simulation, a machine that measures the participants stress, anxiety and alertness levels, before chewing gum and after chewing gum. Results showed that when chewing gum participants had a reduction in anxiety by seventeen percent (Scholey) during mild stress and ten percent (Scholey) in moderate stress. They also had an increase of alertness when they chewed gum by nineteen percent (Scholey) during mild stress and eight percent (Scholey) in moderate stress. The participants levels of salivary cortisol (a physiological stress marker) were lowered by sixteen percent (Scholey) during mild stress and nearly twelve percent (Scholey) in moderate ... Sometimes I got the question posed to me: Well, who do we vote for? Obviously, people of all sorts Christian or not Republican or not were frustrated at the lack of options. I understand. I was one of them. But for a Christian who has just been told that the candidate they re planning on voting for is the Antichrist, this takes on a whole other dimension, not to mention frustration. People were also concerned about Hillary, and rightly so. They were left with a choice of Armageddon or slow rot. So much is at stake especially the Supreme Court. I myself was in sort of an odd place. For me, the vote was cast already. I knew who was going to win. I d often tell people, If you want to vote for Trump, vote for Trump. The alkyl halides will be examined based on the substrate types and solvent the reaction takes place in. Procedure: For the first part of this experiment, six dry test tubes were obtained and labeled accordingly to test the following halides: 2 chlorobutane, 2 bromobutane, 1 chlorobutane, 1 bromobutane, 2 chloro 2 methylpropane, and bromobenzene. To each of the six test tubes 2ml of 15% sodium iodide in acetone was added. 4 drops of the appropriate halide was added to the test tube labeled for that specific halide. After adding the halide, the test tube was then shaken to mix thoroughly. If a precipitate formed the time it took was recorded. Since none of the solutions formed a precipitate at room temperature after five minutes, the test tubes were placed inside of a hot bath at about 50В°C. After one minute, the test tubes were taken out of the hot bath and allowed to cool. If any test tubes formed a precipitate, the time it took was recorded on a table. For the second part of the experiment, again six dry test tubes were obtained and labeled accordingly to test the following halides: 2 chlorobutane, 2 bromobutane, 1 chlorobutane, 1 bromobutane, 2 chloro 2 methylpropane, and bromobenzene. Sink, D (2008), claims that Instructional Design Models and Learning Theories are used after the needs of an organization have been identified (Sink, D. 2008). Instructional Systems Design Models provide designers effective ways to identify solutions to support the needs of an organization. This paper will discuss the characteristics of the Experiential LearningModel, Attention, Relevance, Confidence, Satisfaction Model, and the Gerlach and Ely Models along with providing a comparison and contrast of these models. Characteristics of ELM, ARCS, and Gerlach and Ely Models Experiential Learning Model (ELM): Based on early work from John Dewey, Kurt Lewin, and Jean Piaget, ELM was developed in 1974 by David A. Kolb and Ron Fry in 1974. This model emphasizes the idea that learning occurs when the student takes interest in the subject matter and engages in self initiated learning. Learning is an on going process that is based on experience, interactions with the environment, and involves obtaining knowledge through social interactions. The ELM is composed of four elements: Concrete experience, observation and reflection, Forming abstract concepts, and testing in new situations and five steps which consist of: Experience, Share, Process, Generalize, and Apply (Moore, Eric T. 2013). Attention, Relevance, Confidence, and Satisfaction (ARCS) Model: The model was developed by John Keller in 1979 who believed that motivation of students had direct correlation to their ability to ... Second will always be combining like terms and adding related coefficients what we have been working on this week which is dealing with real numbers. Introduction Given the proliferation of missions that often have multiple objectives aligned to counterterrorism, humanitarian aid, and national defense, the alacrity at which the armed forces are expected to integrate and quickly deliver results in a foreign nation is increasing. The cross cultural competency (3C) model is designed as a foundation for streamlining the cultural assimilation process, providing leaders and subordinates with a more efficient approach to quickly understanding and become effective in a culture different than one s own (Abbe, Gulick, Herman, 2007). As the alacrity and intensity of cultural assimilation is increasing across all branches of the military, combined with greater levels of mission complexity and required collaboration of foreign governments and agencies, developing a effective 3C model is essential for mission success. The intent of this analysis is to provide insights into how leaders can manage diversity more effectively in the military, especially those called upon to serve in cultures significantly different than one s own. Training in cross cultural competency often includes references to the Hofstede Model of Cultural Dimensions and the specific attributes of collectivism versus individuality, two potentially polarizing aspects of military leadership in foreign regions (Goodman, 2012). Sigmund Freud developed this idea, which is known as the pleasure principle, claiming to explain that the human consciousness and subconsciousness revolve around this idea. If someone is isolated, then they will try to alleviate that suffering in one way or another. Human emotionis reduced to extremely simple terms, unlike what they truly are, which is extremely complex. The idea of reducing humans to such a simple understanding seems unfair, but it carries a sense of truth to it. Every person on Earth is seeking for pleasure, and it carries truth because no person appreciates the feelingof unpleasantness. Isolation is a defense method against the world to seek pleasure and to avoid unpleasant feelings in life. Freud believes that everyone attempts to get away from things that cause us pain and suffering and that everyone feels suffering as a result of society, but the way people attempt to alleviate this suffering defines us as a person. Two people could be faced with the death of a close relative, but the one who alleviates his suffering through drugs is very different from the one who alleviates his suffering through burying himself in his work. If the child likes an activity, they are more likely to practice or develop skills because they enjoy it, and are not being forced into it. This may help their self esteem as well, because they will be doing something they like, instead of being forced to do something that they may not have a natural aptitude for and run the risk of failing. Louis deeply believed that God was eager to bestow great victories on his army of crusaders, and the ease with which they had taken Damietta confirmed this for him. He felt certain that similar victories awaited them at Mansurah and Cairo if only they put their trust in God rather than in clever bargaining. (Madden pg160) St. Louis felt that God was going to help them win the battles to come and put his trust in God rather than reason. It s only human natural. Kevin sums up the gist of the television series, The Office, in the final episode. The series is filmed like a documentary and follows a cast of dynamic characters through everyday life working at a fictional paper company called Dunder Mifflin. Two of the quirkiest characters in the show are Michael Scott , the regional manager, and Dwight Schrute, a paper salesman. At first glance, these characters seem to share nothing in common; however, when taking a closer look, Dwight and Michael have many similarities including social abilities, work lives, and emotional connectivity. Michael and Dwight are similar in that they are both mildly socially detached. This trait contributes to the humor in their everyday interactions. It also explains why both men struggle with making connections within the office. The approval of others is very important to Michael, and he desperately tries to be the friends with his employees, despite the fact that he is their boss. On the... The only opinions that matter to Dwight are the opinions of those he views as his superiors, which in the office is his boss, Michael. • 38. Essay on Contemplating Sartre s No Exit Contemplating Sartre s No Exit In No Exit, Sartre provides a compelling answer to the problem of other minds through the medium of drama. He puts two women (Inez and Estelle) in one hotel room with one man (Garcin) for all of eternity. This is his concept of hell, and he makes this point in one of the last few lines of the play: Hell is other people! There are no torture racks or red hot pitchforks in hell because they re after an economy of man power or devil power if you prefer. Each person is there (in hell) for a specific reason: Garcin because he cheated on and tormented his wife, Estelle because she killed her own child and her lover, then committed suicide, and Inez because she tormented (female) lover until that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It is important to note that Garcin s main fear in life was the fear of being cowardly, and this motivated the majority of his actions, e.g. most of his actions were preformed to demonstrate to himself and others that he is/was manly ; for instance, his conquests of multiple women, his domination and degradation of his wife, and the way he courted danger at every turn. However, he performed a cowardly action (fled the country when war broke out) which, when he was caught, led to a cowardly death which he defines as merely a physical lapse. Additionally, Estelle finds another way to seek approval: she needs Garcin s approval (as the only man there) to establish her superiority over Estelle as an object of desire, by comparison with Inez, the lesbian. Finally, Inez does the same thing, although in a different form, as Estelle and Garcin. She seeks approval over Estelle as a strong, dominant, hones woman, as compared to Estelle, who is a weak, subservient, dishonest woman. Although Inez criticizes Estelle for having a male dominated personality (which since Inez is a lesbian, she does not), Inez does not realize that she herself has an other dominated personality. No Exit also does a fine job of expressing Sartre s idea of negation in his philosophy of existentialism. Each person negate the person who is attracted to her through the process of denying that person. However, each person also negates the person whom the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Some soldiers say they can never forget the smell when they first walked into a camp, and thousands of people visit the remaining camps and feel as if they are walking through a cemetery, which they are really. It has been sixty years since the Holocaustended, and over six million Jewish people died in some of the worst possible ways. There are very few survivors left today, and even after the camps were liberated the survivors were not treated humanely when they finally got to return home. After all they went through they should have had more support to help them after their ordeal, but to this day there are still people that deny that the Holocaust ever happened. Something as terrifying as the Holocaust should not be questioned because someone does not believe mankind is that cruel, that they just think survivors were mentally unstable and wanted to get publicity, and mainly the reason is that they are anti Semitic. A person may not want to believe that mankind is that cruel, but they have to know that it happened because something that awful must be known to prevent it from happening again.
