I am here to present to you the health themes and subthemes. It is also vital to mention that the delivery inclusion of health in this catch up Friday is very essential bec it wil help develop the knowledge, skills and attitudes towards holistic well being.Before we go to the meat of discussion,Let me present the health content areas. In the 2016 curriculum, & in the MATATAG Cur, the health Cur areas is around 10 areas, however for this Catch up Friday, we will only focus on the 4 key areas.
According to research, this 4 areas are the most pressing issues affecting young children and adolescent this time. That’s why this areas requires indept and thourough discussion, and by addressing this areas, we will contribute a healthy and resilient and a well informed learner. This will be used in all grade levels..
Let us now proceed for quarterly themes, topics and issues for grade 1. FOR QUARTER 1 we will center our discussion on Personal hygiene..FOR QUARTER 2, as early as grade 1, we will introduce them on how to manage emotions…………For QUARTER 3…….(WE have to use the proper terms for the private sexual parts.
For grade 2, we will focus on health habits and hygiene and the most important aspect also is the development of self management skills..And qurter 2 would be the…..and of course they have to understand the different intense emotions…and quarter 4 the drug education..or the uses of medicine
For grade3, we will talk about…..For Q2 though we have a very brief theme, we have a thourough discussion discussion on stress manangement and problem solving asking for help.
Q1…..for quarter 2 as early as grade 4, they have to understand and know how to combat…..
For quarter 2-On how it affects the emotional, attitudes, beliefs and perceptions of our learners….For Q3 is on ways of expressing love and also we will discuss why female learners menstruate and why male should undergo circumcision.. For Q4 as early as grade 5 psychoactive substances that affect the brain
For grade 6, we will focus on the prevention…..Q2 (read) Q3-As early as grade 6, learners must know the concepts of gender equality and gender stereotyphing for Q4 (read)
For grade 7, it is proper time to introduce the common non communicable diseases like diabetes, high blood, stroke and cancer- For Q2. we have..like anxieties, depressions and the difference between eustress and distress.. They must have to know that stress is not just negative it can also be positive and that is the eustress.
For Q1 (read) for Q2—Most of the people who are experiencing this health issues are belong to Grade 6,7,8. for Q3 we have to discuss…
Those are the quarterly themes for catch up Fridays and are more than that I would like to mention that the topics presented are highly sensitive. That’s why when we implement this in the field, we have to be very careful becaused we don’t like to break instead to develop the skills of our learners.
