Split Second Processing Essay
Back to the starting point of assessing the big picture, the broad horizon....once enough data is
retrieved from the rapidly changing environment, the brain internalizes the data, discards the invalid
data (noted as a distraction), then narrowly focuses on the data to rehearse it, then it can move on to
the performance. If the brain rushes through any of this split second processing, it can make a
mistake/error.
I believe this flow of concentration, that is presented in the textbook as a square, is actually a sphere
much like an eyeball. It s an eye of the mind or mind s eye. At the center of the cross hairs is a narrow
circle. This is in the moment and the circle around this centered point is a prioritization ring or loop
that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The focus loop provides continuous monitoring of all concentration zones. In the center of the loop is
in the moment, here and now . This is where I want to be when I m intentionally engaged in an action
oriented task such as sport climbing. In this example, the focus is parked in a neutral zone giving all
four zones equal attention. This is basically a flow type state where the brain has complete coverage of
all concentration zones. It s like most of the climber s thought processes are autonomic like their heart
beat. Everything is in synch. The climber is able to see the big picture assessment to include the
environment such as the current weather conditions and their though on a forecast for the climb. They
are also able to monitor the game plan or the route for the climb to include obstacles and overhangs
that potentially could be challenging. They are able to monitoring their energy levels and determine
when and where to take a rest and allow their phosphocreatine system to recover. When monitoring
the climber s narrow internal view, he is conducting body scans to adjust arousal and breathing rates
and progressive muscle relaxation to decrease tension. His skill and technique are all flowing
automatically. He is able to stay ahead of his body and the mountain with full control. In the external
and narrow zone, the climber is engaged in action with intentional and smooth placement of their
hands and feet with perfect balance to keep their energy levels high and decrease any unnecessary
moves that could deplete

The Internet And Its Impact On Society
The Internet plays a huge role in today s society. Everything in today s world revolves around the
Internet. Individuals use it to pay bills, access social media, email, etc. Most individuals do not know
that they would not be able to access any of these privileges if they did not exist. A web server is a
client/server process. It uses a specific software to fulfill a client s web page request by finding,
selecting, and forming the web page to be transmitted to the client s device. This would be from the
time that a client makes a request until they receive the information. This paper will discuss the
following subtopics: the past, present, and future of web servers, including other competing
technologies; what constitutes a web server; ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

server can still be found at Cern. Cern has also re created the first website that Lee had invented on the
NeXT machine. Today, web servers are an important piece of technology to have in an organization.
Speed, time, cost and security are the most important attributes involved with a web server. Currently,
the leading web servers include Apache, which is the most widely installed web server, Microsoft s
Internet Information Server (IIS) and NGNIX. (Lingan) However, new developments in the
technology field are constantly evolving. These developments will deal with a new technology called
cloud hosting. The future of web servers is unclear. However, the new trend under discussion is the
technology of cloud hosting and infrastructure. With this, the cloud infrastructure will become the
default web server environment. This means that there will be a move towards open source platform
services, a greater focus on small businesses, developers, and individuals, developers will be the
center of future IT departments, and growth will outpace the traditional market. (Uretsky)

Clinical Characteristics Of MRI Data
All MRI data were processed blind to the order of scan acquisition (baseline or week 10), treatment
assignment, and participant clinical characteristics. Anatomical MRI We applied automated tools to
correct for large scale variations in image intensities30 and to remove extracerebral tissue31. We then
removed connecting dura manually on each slice in the sagittal, axial, and coronal views. We first
coregistered all participant brains to an initial template using a similarity transform that maximized
mutual information32 and then applied a high dimensional, nonrigid fluid flow algorithm33 to warp
each brain to the exact size and shape of the template brain. Brain tissue was segmented as gray and
white matter with a semi automated method ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
We applied spectral fitting to the frequency domain signal to identify peaks for N acetyl aspartate
(NAA), creatine+phosphocreatine (Cr), choline containing compounds (Ch), and glutamate+glutamine
(Glx). We modeled the spectrum for those peaks with Gaussian Lorentzian curves, which were fitted
to the data using a least squares curve fitting routine. The areas under the fitted curves estimated
concentrations of the metabolites in each voxel of the brain. We performed quality control of the data
by visually assessing the spectrum in each MRS voxel and rejected data from voxels with strong lipid
contamination, insufficient suppression of residual water, unresolved Cr and Ch peaks, or full width at
half maximum 12 Hz for the peaks. We then computed background noise for the MR spectrum as the
standard deviation of the real part of the complex spectrum free from the metabolite signal, and then
computed the signal to noise ratio (SNR) for each metabolite level. The average SNR for NAA was
greater than 280, an excellent SNR attributable to use of the 8 channel head coil. We then generated a
spectroscopic image (SI) for each metabolite as the ratio of peak area to background noise for each
MRS voxel in the brain. Taking the ratio of the peak area to the background noise accounted for
variations in receiver and transmitter gain across scans. We subsequently processed the spectroscopic
images to correct for both partial volume effects within each MRS voxel and the dispersion

How Did Thomas Edison Lose His Hearing
Thomas Edison was born on February 11, 1847 in Milan, Ohio. His parents were Samuel and Nancy
Edison. Thomas was very curious from a young age. He started experimenting at the age of 5 when he
sat on chicken eggs to see why they needed to stay warm to be hatched. Thomas started out in a public
school but was told he asked to many questions and his teacher got mad at him. His mom was a school
teacher and she started homeschooling him to get him away from the negativity. His family moved to
Port Huron, MI when he was young.
Thomas s first job was being a newsboy on the Grand Trunk Railroad. This is where he lost most of
his hearing. There is no exact reason why he lost his hearing but there are a few of reasons that could
be true. He could have

First Day-Day Descriptive Writing
The First December Day I woke slowly, eyelashes fluttering gently as I blinked my way into reality
gently rising from the slumber I had plunged into the night before. Sunlight was just barely sneaking
through the bamboo blinds of my light pink room, leaving my bed in a shadow of deep purple as if it
was afraid to pull me from my dreaming too soon. The room was still chilly and the floorboards a
frigid slate of ice as I pulled on the slipper socks that my mother had set beside my bed, and sleepily
padded over to the window. With a soft yawn and a stretch, I slowly tugged on the fraying, yellowed
string controlling the shades, fiddling with it slightly as I pulled with all of the might that my tiny
form could allow. Bit by bit, I slowly ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It was towering in a glorious and perfect upside down ice cream cone shape, a soft teal, with spines
that were more plastic than they were needles. My father tamed it gently with his hand, and proceeded
to trim the bottom branches. With the earsplitting shriek of the chainsaw, and a few tense moments
later, the tree plummeted gracefully to the ground, and my father hoisted it up onto his shoulders,
propping it on the van before giving it a final shove onto the roof. I retrieved the string to tie it up
from the back seat. The bulky twine was surprisingly smooth to the touch, gliding comfortably
between my fingers as the ball unwound. Amazed by this, I promptly called out Daddy! Can I have a
piece?
The reply was of course a short laugh and an, Of course, pumpkin, from my father, as we finished
securing the tree and prepared to go home. The little coconut cream colored rope, now filled with the
dizzying aroma of pine, twirled smoothly between my fingers as I toyed with it dreamily, leaning
myself against the window and gazing at the immaculate, snow draped scenery sweeping by. A small
yawn escaped as the day came to its close, my eyes fluttering shut, and hands stopping their
movements. Sleep took me just as softly as it had let me go, an old friend leading me back to my
dreams aided by the subtle, thumping lullaby of returning

Pentermine Research Papers
What is the best way to take Phentermine? No weight loss pill is a miracle substance and you need to
follow a certain set of rules and regulations to get the best results. Phentermine too has its own way of
use and if you violate those certain rules you might end up being a victim of side effects You should
always keep in mind that Phentermine doesn t work like a miracle substance. It will not provide you
best results if you do not put your own efforts. Well it might help you in burning those extra layers of
fat from your body but if you want quick result then you must follow a certain things. The most
important thing you should keep in your mind that the right diet plan will always give you the right
result. You might think that Phentermine will anyways help you to suppress your appetite, true but if
you yourself follow a proper diet plan then that will not only help you to lose weight properly but also
will provide you precautions in terms of side effects. A good and healthy diet plan ... Show more

issues like dry mouth. How long does Phentermine stay in your system? This is a million dollar
question to be asked. And the most common question asked is How long does Phentermine stay in the
system? When will it stop showing up in a urine test? A lot of people get confused with this particular
part about Phentermine why because different people tend to say different theories about how long the
drug stays in your system. The fact here is, any drug, be it is Phentermine or any other, when it wears

Abstract: In this paper a hybrid technique is used for determining the face from an image. Face
detection is one of the tedious job to achieve with very high accuracy. In this paper we proposed a
method that combines two techniques that is Orthogonal Laplacianface (OLPP) and Particle Swarm
Optimization (PSO). The formula for the OLPP relies on the Locality Preserving Projection (LPP)
formula, which aims at finding a linear approximation to the Eigen functions of the astronomer
Beltrami operator on the face manifold. However, LPP is non orthogonal and this makes it difficult to
reconstruct the information. When the set of features is found by the OLPP, with the help of the PSO,
the grouping of the image features is done and the one with the best match from the database is given
as the result. This hybrid technique gives a higher accuracy in less processing time.

Payola Schemes
Friendly Competition and Payola Schemes after the Act
The Congress passed the Telecommunications act of 1996 to promote competition and media crossing;
but it also resulted in many company mergers from across different media spectrums which altered the
structure of radio and music industry connection because (1) there are less radio stations owned by
many individuals instead big companies, (2) the companies that own Radio Stations and Music
Industries that promote music and generate sales which is favorable on both ends. Based off of
Killmeier s article, he explained a number of things that represents radio, the music industry and
corporations: (1) how popular music coincides with political views in a way to reach listeners because

All I can say from doing this research is to, for myself, pay closer attention and be aware of the
shaping of our society through the way radio stations push certain songs and we interpret them. I feel
as if with this information it can open up more room for investigation as far as learning how the
payola procedures play out and how does radio become more dominant than the actual music industry
who produces the music. With this piece of knowledge, I find myself wanting to reject the idea of
radio being available to help us find new music, instead I see it as a way to promote certain artists and
profit off of them without actually paying their songs because its good. These industries are continuing
to push for consumerism when in reality it should be set up as a world of knowledge that teaches
everyone through their lyrics and the information they put out. Its should not be this easy to influence
someone to do the morally incorrect. The morality aspect of doing he right thing when it comes to
their audience and it is all about who is paying the most to get themselves

Red Fire Descriptive Writing
As I was walking back to my attendance line coming from lunch I saw a glimpse of the shiny red fire
alarm. Hey Mason! I quickly turned to see who was calling to me. It was my friend Logan. Logan and
I have been neighbors for about 5 years, and ever since he moved we had been really good friends.
Because our last names were close in alphabetical order, we also ended up standing next to each other
in attendance lines. We were staring out the window wishing we could be outside playing on the play
structure or exploring the courtyard when he asked a question that was totally out of the blue. I dare
you to pull the fire alarm Logan urged. This took me aback. I turned my attention to the bright red fire
alarm with its clear case, just asking to be yanked down with all my might. I look back at Logan and
asked, What s in it for me? Logan pondered this question, and after a little thought he responded with

Alexander Graham Bell Impact On Society
Imagine sending a letter every time you had something important to say. That letter could take days to
reach the person you trying to get it too. There was no trucks to send mail there were only couriers.
For example couriers would walk or ride horseback for days do deliver a message. Therefore, one
casual day on March tenth 1876 Alexander Graham Bell had changed the way of communication. He
invented the first telephone called the bell telephone named after its creator. Some people say the
mobile new phones is addicting or brainwashing children. For example imagine spending a day

security because we can call 911. We can order food instead of having to go out and get and
everything has been going fine since the phone was invented. So far more and more phones are
coming out. First of all, the telephone has a long history of impacting society from 1876 to 2017. The
telephone began from Alexander Graham Bell it was the bell telephone. Telephones began as large,
clunky devices capable of transmitting, and receiving voice messages over short distances. The
telephone evolved into lighter transportable cellular devices capable of enabling communications over
large distances. Today s mobile phones would be a dream to the 1900s. Furthermore, the telephone
impacts our lives today. It gives us security, music, entertainment, navigation, and more. If you have a
phone you can understand how it impacts our lives. For example, socialism is an important feature of
humans and sometimes you might not get to at home so you can text them and talk to them. You can
also use your phone for food. Like Jimmy Johns for example you can order them so fast you ll

Africans transported to the New World experienced brutal and inhuman treatments because of their

significance that this artifact represented. For instance, in accordance to this artifact the Kongo viewed
this object as a sacred and powerful charm. In Thompson s article the term s etymology of mbumba is
another term for Nkisi, however, mbumba is of higher class, referring to a higher connection to the
dead of Kongo. It also explains that the word mbumba is a reference to a jar or basket. This jar as
analyzed was decorated with materials as mentioned before and had also great significance such as
white buttons symbolizing mystery and the bird feathers symbolizing power that flies that was meant
and believed to be the connection to heaven. Furthermore, Figure 2 a more recent Nkisi is more
vibrant and luminous or as referred to the illumination to call upon the Iwa. Now, according to
Stephen D. Glazier s article, the term Iwa or Ioa served in reference to spirits or deities, and this
comes way back from African origins. To explain, in Africa the Kongo community would have the
priest sanctify the Iwa to allow practice of devotion as a fellowship. However, in Haiti the relationship

Better Than Driving A Car By Landslides
It s a question people can t help but think as the plane begins to speed down the runway, the engines

cars? It s a fear people don t have when driving a bowling alley or in an Uber or Lyft on the way home

flying on a plane on average is safer than driving a car by a landslide. Data from the National

The Cheyenne Tribes Of The Native American Indians
The Cheyenne was one of the most famous tribes of the Native American Indians. They lived on the
Great Plains in what is now South Dakota, Wyoming, Nebraska, Colorado, and Kansas. During the
1800 s, the U.S. government forced the Cheyennes to move to Oklahoma. Today, there are two
Cheyenne tribes. The Southern Cheyenne live in Oklahoma while the Northern Cheyenne settle in
Montana.
The Cheyenne had an interesting culture and way of life. Boys were taught how to hunt, fish, and fight
from their fathers. Girls learned how to cook, clean, and do chores around the house. Also, the
children went to school and played with dolls, toys, and games. For example, the Cheyenne kids
enjoyed playing the hoop game and lacrosse. A Cheyenne woman was responsible for building her
family s house. She dragged heavy posts with her whenever the tribe moved. Later on, the Cheyenne
Indians killed buffalo so they could use buffalo hide to make teepees. They lived in teepees because it
was easy to set up and take down. As a result of moving frequently, a teepee allowed the Cheyenne
tribe to move within an hour. The Cheyenne women harvested corn, squash, and beans while the men
hunted deer and buffalo. Also, they ate fish, fruit, and berries. For clothing, the Cheyenne women
wore long deerskin dresses that were decorated with porcupine quills, shells, and elk teeth. Cheyenne
men wore breechcloths with leather leggings in colder climates. Men wore moccasins while the
women wore high fringed boots. Chief leaders had tall feather headdresses and long warbonnets. The
hair style for men was long braids with a topknot and women wore their hair loose or braided. The
Cheyennes painted their faces for war, religious ceremonies, and feasts. Lastly, the Cheyenne people
were very religious. They performed an elaborate Sun Dance, smoked peace pipes, built ceremonial
houses, and four arrows represented their sacred object.
The tribal government of the Cheyenne Indians was called the Council of Forty Four. It was formed
by ten bands of the tribe. The council was made up of four chiefs from each band as well as four Old
Man chiefs. Each chief served a ten year term. Every summer, the Council of Forty Four made
decisions

A Misunderstanding Of Gerald Finzi s Music
One misunderstanding of Finzi s style to those reflecting on his music, was that he refused to use
higher dissonant notes, which was a component in twentieth century music. This is a way that people
recognized Finzi s work because he kept his options open with new possibilities, but restricted himself
from specific rules. For example, a dominant seventh chord in a motet by Byrd is as dissonant in its
context as the opening chord of the finale of Beethoven s ninth symphony. In other words, those
characteristics were prominent in determining pieces by other composers, such that small notation was
recognizable for Finzi s work.
Compositions
Subsequently, Gerald Finzi s musical compositions gathered much fame, but in a rare storyline.
Throughout his life, only two of Finzi s pieces were physically made. Dies natalis, and White
flowering days are the pieces Finzi composed. Furthermore, he was not encouraged to record his
compositions, he was only interactive in conducting his own music in concerts and broadcasts. During
the 1939 1945 war, his musical talent was surpassed for the moment being. Finzi continued to develop
as he felt more intentions for his musical skills when observing the new characteristics of his country
during the war. Although he continued to compose, a majority of his music was not yet recorded until
after his death. An example would be a clarinet concerto, Five Bagatelles, which was written during
the war to portray the passing moments during his

Theseus In The Odyssey
Of all the Greek heroes, the greatest of all was the mighty and powerful Theseus. Theseus rose above
and beyond any other hero by using his intellect and not just superior strength. He refused to take the
easy path and instead took the path he felt was right. The myth of Theseus proves that intellect,
courage, and compassion can be superior to strength and brute force.
Theseus, unlike many of the Greek heroes, was not only the son of a god, but a mortal man as well.
Some versions of the myth claim that his dual paternity was caused by his mother having relations
with both Poseidon, god of the sea, and Aegeus, the king of Athens, in the same night. Other version
claim he was the son of either one or the other. Before Theseus was born, King Aegeus left a pair of

Theseus must take her back with him to Athens and make her his wife. He agreed and bravely went

the Minotaur and ended the tribute for good. He, Ariadne, and the rest of the tributes returned to the
ship on which they came to journey back to Athens. Ariadne never made it to Athens. In some
versions of the myth Theseus deserts her while in others she dies of sea sickness. For whatever reason,
she did not continue the journey and Theseus forgot to hoist up the white sail when entering Athens.

once the Category reaches maturity stage. Hence, it may be a bad idea to delay the product launch, for
designing an ideal product. Handspring will be better served by putting a functional product early on

It can be argued that handheld devices market is on the Chasm stage, as explained by Gordon Moore .
Handspring s plug in modules can be an innovative feature which can accelerate adoption of handheld
devices by masses. However, the currently proposed feature may not significant enough to be a
disruptive innovation. IDEO s time tested development process may help Handspring to develop a
truly innovative product. By reducing the product development time, Handspring will be loosing many
of the benefits bought on by IDEO.

Citizen Kane Techniques
Citizen Kane
Citizen Kane is often called the greatest film ever made. Its use of film techniques often taken for
granted nowadays were completely new and had not been done before. Simple things like ceilings on
the sets and realistic scenes such as the newsreel, which would not stand out in a modern film, were
combined to make a film full of innovative techniques. The director, Orson Welles, developed the use
of deep focus to make the flat cinema screen almost become three dimensional, which added a realism
that had not been explored before.
Right from the start, a viewer can see the innovation displayed by Welles. The opening scene, one of
the most famous in the entire film, begins with the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This happens just as Kane dies, so it is both a signal that he has passed away, and a metaphor of the
light of life going out.
The opening scene also contains the first instance of something being viewed through a piece of glass
and of just the reflection of what is going on being seen, in this case, both at once. These techniques
make the audience unsure of what they are seeing and are used at other times throughout the film.
Realism is a major reason why Citizen Kane stands out from other films of the time. However, it is the
way realism and theatrical effects are mixed together that truly marks it out as one of the greatest films
ever made. Ceilings on the set allowed for scenes lit by normal lightbulbs, giving the appearance of
real rooms, but the theatrical spotlights through the windows in the newsreel showing room and the
library highlight parts of the scenery, leaving others in shadow.
The people working on Citizen Kane went to great lengths to get authentic looking film for the
newsreel. It was degraded using sand to give a grainy look as opposed to the smooth film used for the
main picture. Also in the newsreel, the jerky cuts, when Kane spills cement on his coat then is shown
clean, give a more genuine feel to the footage. The newsreel scene can also be viewed as a parody of
an actual news programme of the time, March of Time . This

The Formula For The Inverted Pyramid
The author s employs the formula for the inverted pyramid in several scenarios as they emphasize the
importance of maintaining the employee s attention and focus with attention grabbing headlines and
subject lines. (The email headliner will generally dictate whether someone opens it or deletes it). With
the examples given from the book the most important part of the information your giving to the
receiver needs to be the first thing that they are seeing it or else it won t work. Employees are just like
the general population as humans, we process information, and data according to what we deem is
important. With the Inverted pyramid, we see how media, movie posters, and movie previews draw
your attention and summarize their pitch in a matter of seconds, as time is the essence now more than
ever. (Davis and Shannon, 2011)
Comparing Davis s (2011) concepts to academic journal of Karen Mishra (2014) Driving Employee
Engagement: The Expanded Role of Internal Communications, (p. 183 202) there are similarities and
proof of validity of our classroom book. Engagement, defined as the degree to which an individual is
attentive absorbed in the performance of their roles. Mishra (2014) states that face to face
communication for some employees is still a key and prevalent concept; it should not be dismissed to
convey messages when needed. Even in this case, the inverted pyramid concept of talking would be
best. Always stating your most important information first to make sure,

Las Vegas Movie Analysis
Before watching this movie, I thought Las Vegas is a place that shapes many people s life and decides
their destinies. And the only determine factor of winning money is luck. For example, when two
people bring the same amount of money to Las Vegas, one of them may become a millionaire and
another person may lose everything during one night. However, after watching this movie, my
impression to statistics has totally changed. It seems that people can use statistics to help gain the
greatest advantages in many circumstances. Also, I saw the dark side in human nature. Teacher
Mickey is a main character in the movie. He is a greedy, ambitious person who uses his students to
earn money. Obviously, he is not a qualified teacher. Therefore, I think society should pay more
attention to select teacher, because teacher can directly influence the next generation.
In this movie, the main character Ben is a college student who is good at math. He receives Harford
Medical School s offer, however, he doesn t have enough money to pay the tuition. At this time, his
calculus professor notices his talent on calculating. Then the professor invites him to become a
member of a math group and uses his talent to earn money in Las Vegas. The professor finds that Ben

The Life Of Superman Saves Seven Children
Thinking back to my admittedly privileged childhood, the most vivid memory I had wasn t of my first
dance recital, or my first lacrosse game, or even my first fist fight that I won against my seventh grade
bully. It wasn t even of the day when my father was brutally murdered in front of my sister and I when
we were thirteen. No, the most evocative memory I had was the day I purchased the newspaper for my
parents at age twelve and saw, sprawled across the cover, the headline that changed my life forever.
SUPERMAN SAVES SEVEN CHILDREN; PRAISED AS HERO ONCE MORE.
That day, I took my alarmingly large amount of allowance, went down to the novelty store across the
road, and bought sixty seven dollars worth of Superman merchandise. I came home with six comic
books, three old newspapers, an action figure, a skimpy tank top that made its way to college with me
before being puked all over, and a notepad that would later fuel my journalistic obsession to become
as great as Lois Lane, Superman s girl of choice.
A month after acquiring that first newspaper for my parents, my father left the world with a bullet hole
placed cleanly in the center of both eyes.
Soon after my Superman obsession began to dwindle in my first year of college, the masked hero
Batman faced off with his archenemy and made headlines in Gotham, where I attended school. So I
traded in my Superman shorts for a Batman shirt and went searching for him on the streets at night,
desperate.
Late in my third year of

Governmental Systems of China
The country of China throughout the last century has experienced a large and significant variety of
governmental systems, from historical to contemporary. From the Manchu Empire which focused on
Confucianism to the current Communist Party of the People s Republic of China, the government of
China has changed drastically throughout the years, ultimately contributing to the country that China
is today. It is significant to understand that the changes made in the governmental system were so
drastic, that they stretched from the Mainland all the way to Taiwan and Hong Kong. The beginning
empires of the governmental system in China were certainly different than the country s modern day
government. The first empire can be traced back to the year 221 B.C. in which the Qin Dynasty was
ruling. The dynasty was formed by an emperor named Qin Shi Huang, after the state of Qin conquered
six other states in China. The dynasty had a goal in mind to create an imperial state which was unified
by a higher political power with a strong economy. This goal was important to the leaders in order to
maintain a strong military power in the country. The Qin Dynasty also wanted control over the
peasantry, which allowed the Great Wall of China to be built. The purpose of building the Great Wall
of China was to put an end to the raids of the nomadic central Asians from the north. From the
leadership of the Qin came a system of writing, as well as a creation of many roads and other public

The Transformative Power of Sports in the American Civil...
The Transformative Power of Sports in the American Civil Rights Movement Martin Luther King Jr.
had a dream, but so did Cassius Clay, Jackie Robinson, and Bill Russell. Long before King s famous I
Had a Dream speech or Rosa Parks famous protest came something much simpler: Sports. Sports have
always had the ability to open peoples eyes in a way that is more impactful than words or actions. The
way that athletics can shape a person s mind, or open one s eyes to something beyond what one
already believes, is incredible. They can get everyone to root for a common purpose, and for some,
that was freedom. The integration of professional and collegiate athletics not only changed sports
history, but helped shape American history. Cassius Marcellus Clay was born in Louisville, Kentucky
on January 17, 1942, during a time when Louisville was severely segregated; African Americans were
often considered the servant class, and the highest goal that many parents could realistically set for
their children was being a clergymen or public school teacher. (1b. SV; SV, and SV.)Cassius Clay s
father was a billboard painter and his mother worked cleaning houses. Being an African American in
poverty wasn t easy; in fact, Clay was mistreated from birth. His mother recalls a specific incident in a

Testing the Effects of Radiation on Plants
Abstract
The purpose of this lab was to see if radiation has an effect on the cultivated radish seeds that we used.
From the observed data that we collected, we were able to conclude that when seeds are exposed to
radiation, it affects how they grow, if there is any growth at all.
Introduction Radiation is an important environmental abiotic factor for plants, and one small section
of the electromagnetic radiation spectrum, is called the Photosynthetically Active Radiation (PAR),
provides the energy to drive the light reactions of photosynthesis. Such radiation damages biological
tissues by detaching electrons from the atoms that make up organic molecules. The results include
radiation poisoning, cancer, and elevated mutation ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The 50 mrad radish seed never experienced any growth. The 150 mrad radish seed shot up about 4 cm
the first week and then the second and third week stayed at the same height. From these observations
we can tell that there was a significant difference between the control and the radish seeds that were
inflected with radiation. The ones that contained radiation either experienced no growth at all,
experienced stunted growth, and were never as tall as the control. I reject both null hypothesizes, and
fail to reject both alternative hypothesizes since the radiation did prove to have an effect on the radish
seeds.
Conclusion
From the obtained data, we were able to fail to reject the alternate hypothesizes. Gamma radiation
levels had effects on the radish seeds. We were able to determine these levels by comparing these
results to the control which was just a radish seed that was never altered by any radiation for as far as
we know.

The museum displayed the work here at Bletchley Park with much pride and admiration. They believe
that the work done here by these men and women were crucial to the war effort. Because of the nature
of the work, these stories were often untold until many years after the war. In such, this museum tries

After visiting Bletchley Park, my changing understanding of British history revolved around the

bought pictures a woman in a ball gown surrounded by military men that says, Stay mum, she s not so
dumb! . This quote is meant to demonstrate that women are listening to the men soldiers tales and
secrets that the women would use for their loyalty. Another point the museum pointed out in one
section involved the cracking of the Japanese codes, which occurred very early, pre dating the official
start of the war. The museum highlights this and then added a panel that suggested that Roosevelt
potentially had prior knowledge of Pearl Harbor before the attack, and used this attack to bring the
United States into the war. I thought this information was interesting and in some ways changed my
opinion on what President Roosevelt did and did not know before the bombing of Pearl Harbor. It was

Policing Systems And International Police Corporation Essay
Introduction The justice system is a set of institutions, agencies, and process that have been
established by the government to control crime and impose penalties on persons violating the laws.
Justice systems vary across the many jurisdictions in the world; this paper is a critical analysis and
comparison of the judicial organization of America against another jurisdiction with an effective legal
system. The parameters around which the comparison will be centered constitute factors like
substantive and procedural law, judicial review, policing systems and international police corporation.
Norway will be the jurisdiction in comparison, the purpose of the benchmarks provided in this
comparison is to not to serve as policy but to offer a little guidance on the concept of the justice
system, how it operates and its procedures. It serves as a practical framework, which aims to develop a
good comprehension and understanding of judicial systems and provide scholars and students alike
with a structure around which they can evaluate a system s efficiency and conduct research. A look at
the concepts and science behind the substantive law as a significant practical factor in the
operationalization of courts requires a shift of accent from the mere study of the legal doctrine to the
study of an operation of an institution. Substantive law and procedural law work in tandem with each
other to ensure that in all civil and criminal cases instated in courts, appropriate rules are

A Book That Is So New And Fresh On The Literary Scene
Reading a book that is so new and fresh on the literary scene that even the professor has yet to finish
reading it is something that I don t encounter very often on college courses that often have a tendency
to focus on books that are at least ten years old. In addition to this novel being so new, it was also
special in the fact that it took place in the area that we are studying it in. This gives the class the
opportunity to talk about the piece in the way that they can really relate to, and this is only more true
when the author of the book is able to come and speak with the class. So with these things being taken
into consideration, being able to read and analyze this book in this class is definitely a notable
opportunity. Reading this specific piece of creative nonfiction is a perfect example of how much of a
privilege getting a college education as a top tier university truly is. This book is part of the
longstanding American tradition of men to write about their experiences in nature. It is important to
note how important nature is in the scope of American literature. The ability for a person the retreat
into nature is what makes differentiated American life and the books based on it from the European
country that it gained independence from. This nature writing was revitalized by Transcendentalists
such as Emerson and Thoreau who normalized the narrative of the everyman being able to go into
nature and learn about himself and the environment that he is a part of.

Free Market Economy Essay
A free market is a type of market that the government is not involved in. Since the government does
not care about what happens, the free market is also called hands off or let it be economics . The
government is limited to protect the citizens from the danger and that is the major goal for the
government. In the free market economy, there are three components of the free market economy:
competition, active but limited government, and the self interest. Competition is one of the main
components of the free market economy. Competition means that the companies compete with one

The government does not necessarily need to intervene how the marker goes. Therefore, the

another main part of the free market economy. This means that the government undertakes a
significant, active role in the market, but at the same time the government s role is ver limited because
all the investments and decisions in the economy are controlled by the market than by the government.
An invisible hand will control the market. Limited government is a type of government in which there
is a minimum intervention in personal properties. Overall, the government tries to keep the economy
in a law and let it free by limiting itself. Hence, the limited government is an essential factor of the
free market economy.Last, self interest is a significant part of the free market economy. Self interest
refers to one s desire to buy something. The market will be generally controlled by people s interest;
the companies will compete with one another to fit the best taste. This is because the people s interest
will be the main trend in the market and it will control what should be made in the market.
Consequently, the market will be self regulated according to the theory of a free market. Therefore, the

John Bowlby Early Attachment Theory
There are many theories in regards to early infant attachment and subsequent development. One very
common theory is John Bowlby s theory, which describes the special relationship that develops over
the first year of life between infants and the people who care for them (Gross, 2011). Bowlby s theory
focuses on the assumption that early life experiences will in advertently affect one s development.
Internal working models, coined by Bowlby, are defined as infants cognitive abilities increase and
enable infants to form a representation of their relationship with the caregiver. Applying this theory, an
infant uses memorable experiences, both negative and/or positive, to develop their relationship with a
person. For example, if an infant experiences ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Sengupta (2011) defines the theory as that, in Maslow s theorization the appearance of a need usually
rests on the prior satisfaction of another more proponent need which is the strongest, in the sense that
it has to be satisfied first. Once it is satisfied, the next category of basic needs emerges, and will now
have the stronger influence on the individual s motivated behavior. Against this background Maslow
concluded that only when lower needs are gratified higher ones emerge, which indicates that the
higher needs are weaker than the lower ones. The theory begins with basic needs such as food, water,
and shelter. The theory than emerges into safety, then love, then self esteem, and finally self
actualization. When applied to early infant attachment, if an infant does not receive proper nutrition
and shelter it will stall that infant s ability to develop. The most sensitive for an infant is safety and
love. Without the security and love of family, food, shelter, sleep, and the body, an infant s
development will be significantly stalled and based on the theory, the infant will not be able to
progress to the next needs until the needs are met in

Obama And Castro Relationship Analysis
A New Relationship in the Works After Obama and Castro Meet in Cuba
On March 21, 2016, President Barack Obama delivered a joint press conference with Cuban President

Cuba in nearly a century. Having it been the first official contact between their two governments in an

relations. Although this was mentioned, there was an underlying hostility between the two as they

A reporter asked Castro about the dissidents his government has arrested and he replied by saying,

in the organizational symbols that the public readily identifies with. The most obvious symbol of
General Electric is the company logo. The visual representation of General Electric starts with a

The Myth Of Robber Barons By Burton W. Folsom

Book Review: The Myth of the Robber Barons by Burton W. Folsom
The Myth of Robber Barons is a short, but excellent book that talks about the entrepreneurs of early
America. It argues against the misconception that the successful businessmen of the 19th century,
often called the robber barons , amassed a big fortune by robbing the general public, whereas, they
became wealthy because they offered good quality products and services at low prices which in turn
attracted so many Americans to do business with them.
According to Folsom, there are two different kinds of entrepreneurs, market entrepreneurs and
political entrepreneurs. Political entrepreneurs were the ones who ... Show more content on

Unfortunately for them, Cornelius Vanderbilt, a market entrepreneur, defeated Fulton, Collins and
Cunard. Vanderbilt defeated the Fulton NY/NJ steamship transport monopoly by offering lower rates,
earning a reputation for his punctuality, investing in faster and larger ships and providing additional
services such as concessions. Apart from this, Folsom claims that market entrepreneurs should not be
labeled as robber barons at all. He believes that market entrepreneurs were behind the actual growth of
America. Unlike political entrepreneurs, they made sound products and took little or no aid from the
government. Market entrepreneurs were known as risk takers and charitable people. Many of them
donated money to the needy, built libraries, gave land to farmers and let people go on ships for free or
they had a cheaper fare. A few of the most charitable market entrepreneurs were Andrew Carnegie
James J. Hill, Cornelius Vanderbilt and John D. Rockefeller.
In the later chapters Folsom talks more about these great entrepreneurs. The second chapter of the
book talks about the transcontinental railway tycoon, James J. Hill. Hill built the Great Northern
without any government aid while remaining highly profitable and efficient. Hill, unlike others,
meticulously planned his railways and mapped out the best routes using the least amount of rail
possible, while his competitors went for expensive, subsidy draining scenic routes. Folsom proves by
using efficiency, price

Different Yardsticks
Do consumers use different yardsticks for evaluating trial experience and post purchase consumption
experience? A review of online chatter
Purpose: This exploratory study is an attempt to understand whether consumers use different
yardsticks to evaluate product trial experience and post purchase consumption experience.
Design/methodology/approach (mandatory): The researchers make use case methodology in the
motion picture industry. The pre release and post release reception of two Indian feature films, Queen
and Gulaab Gang, was studied. To gain insights and answer to the research question, the researchers
used consumer satisfaction theory to examine online comments and reviews generated by users over
the lifetime of both films. Text ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Marketers across industry verticals are increasingly encouraging consumers to experience their
products before they make a purchase decision. To cite examples, consumer goods companies
distribute free product samples, apparel brands offer a fitting room, automobile manufacturers offer
test drives, motion picture industry releases theatrical trailers, cosmetic brands offer makeovers,
software firms offer limited period trials and so on. While the marketing literature confirms product
trial efficacy over advertising (Marks and Kamins 1988; Smith 1993; Wright and Lynch 1995), the
extant literature does not have an answer to questions that marketing practitioners may have Why
consumers tend to dislike products after an initial positive response during product trial? Why
consumers tend to start developing an affinity for products over extended use despite having not liked
them during the initial trial? This exploratory study is an attempt to understand whether consumers use
different yardsticks to evaluate product trial experience and post purchase consumption experience.
More specifically, the study reviews product trial and post purchase evaluation and presents a
discussion in the context of consumer satisfaction literature. The study also reviews conceptual
definitions of electronic word of mouth (eWOM) and presents a discussion around the extant literature
in the motion picture industry.
Next, the case context of two

Honesty In 12 Angry Men
In tough times, it is easy to forget what is right and wrong. The movie Twelve Angry Men is a very
clear demonstration on right and wrong. The film is about twelve jurors who are deciding the fate of a
young man accused of killing his father. These twelve men all vote for guilty, except for the eighth
juror, who votes innocent. It seems very clear that the suspect is guilty, and the eighth juror goes
against everyone to give the young man a fair chance. Although all other jurors try to pressure him
into voting guilty, he sticks to his gut and eventually proves the suspect innocent. In the 1957 film 12
Angry Men, the eighth juror, Mr. Davis, sticks to his core values of honesty, fair judgement, and hard
work to prove the young man accused of killing his father to be innocent.
Honesty is a very important trait to have. The eighth juror from 12 Angry Men believes that honesty is
of great importance. Not much is known about Mr. Davis, or any of the jurors at the beginning of the
movie. As the plot develops, however, the nature of each character is revealed to the audience. It is
easy to see that one of Mr. Davis personality traits is honesty. Those who are honest are the most
trustworthy, and are often the most loyal. Having complete honesty will get anyone far in life, whether
it be through a job, marriage, friendship, or really anything at all, (unless they decide to become a
lawyer.) After watching the film 12 Angry Men, it is easy to see that the eighth juror

Biomechanical Intervention Case Study
1) Many individuals have UE paresis after experiencing a stroke. This is why occupational therapy
service is needed; since they address many of the deficits, including stroke related motor impairment
of the UE. However, despite improved UE functional capacity, UE performance may remain severely
limited after stroke (Doman, Waddell, Bailey, Moore, Lang, 2016). There is a difference between the
function and the performance. For example, many individual after rehab are able to have movement
with their affected UE but, are not able to complete their activities of daily living; like brushing their
teeth and washing their face. So as an OT you must create an intervention that allows the client to
regain both the movements and complete their everyday performance. Like Many OT s I would first
create an intervention to regain movement of the affected UE while utilizing the side without paresis. I
will begin with therapy aimed at strengthening and increasing the range of motion. Once a client
achieves movement required to continue on the different tasks and accomplish their R UE. I would

Sarah was a 77 year old and she had right arm fracture due to a falls. The OT used the Biomechanical
model to regain Range of Motion. The Biomechanical Intervention defines as a Range of Motion and
occupational performance; by preventing deformation, restoring motion, and compensate for limited
range of motion, strength, or endurance. Also, using the work hardening as it individualized approach
to treating a client to return to their lives, by using the physical reconditioning, to stimuli and real
work activities along with exercise to improve the person s ability to perform specific tasks
(Kielhofner, 2009, p. 76). I did not have the opportunity to see the final response of the clients, I can
say I saw a significant change. It s amazing how much a person can change in just a few weeks by

The Business Functions Of IKEA
IKEA was founded in Sweden by Ingvar Kamprad in 1943. IKEA has been established around the
world in 26 different countries. Within these countries IKEA has a total of 303 stores. This business is
effective in adapting to change through the use of the four key business functions; operations, finance,
marketing, and human resources.
IKEA has adapted to the operations function of a business. This function is the main function of every
company. This key function, of which IKEA has adapted to, is the business function responsible for
managing the process of creation of goods and services. The operations function is responsible for
organising, coordinating, planning, and controlling the resources that are required in the production of
goods and services. IKEA has effectively implemented this function by understanding the needs of
customers. In particular, this applies to those who have a lower income, and/or, limited space. IKEA s
employees within the product design and product development departments, focus directly on the
price and quality, as well as the design and function of products. Elements of the design are typically
agreed on within the factory itself, this is where manufacturers and designers work together, to create
a product with regard to the greatest use of raw materials and manufacturing opportunities. IKEA s
operations have proved effective as in 2013 it earned $35.5 billion. IKEA has a large amount of

My Music Experience
As a young boy, I have always had an interest in Music. When my family would go on trips and
vacations out of state I would listen to music on the car radio and try to memorize all the lyrics,
rhythms, tempos, and distinct sounds of the instruments. The first music experience was at the
elementary M.E Pearson. When you got to the Fourth grade, the school allowed students to participate
in orchestra and gave them the opportunity to learn how to play certain instruments. As I walked into
that small trailer and heard the sounds, saw the articulation and how everyone moved as one. I was
flabbergasted and knew instantly this is want I wanted to do. Starting Orchestra, I was horrible and I
didn t learn how to properly play my first instrument, the cello, until the beginning of sixth grade. As
much as I was horrible, orchestra was a positive impact on my life and pushed me to achieve goals.
Going down the hall past Mr. Curry s class, bubble and bumpers, and patiently waiting outside the
orchestra room at M.E Pearson Elementary were the highlights of each day from fourth to fifth grade.
During that time of practice our class would practice articulation, posture, and how to read notes until
the bell rang and would let the school know it was time to go home. As boring as it got sometimes, I
was always filled with joy and prepared for orchestra the next day. The first time trying out for State
was the most intense experience I ever had. Out of all the experiences I have created with

  • 2. Split Second Processing Essay Back to the starting point of assessing the big picture, the broad horizon....once enough data is retrieved from the rapidly changing environment, the brain internalizes the data, discards the invalid data (noted as a distraction), then narrowly focuses on the data to rehearse it, then it can move on to the performance. If the brain rushes through any of this split second processing, it can make a mistake/error. I believe this flow of concentration, that is presented in the textbook as a square, is actually a sphere much like an eyeball. It s an eye of the mind or mind s eye. • 3. The Internet And Its Impact On Society The Internet plays a huge role in today s society. Everything in today s world revolves around the Internet. Individuals use it to pay bills, access social media, email, etc. Most individuals do not know that they would not be able to access any of these privileges if they did not exist. A web server is a client/server process. It uses a specific software to fulfill a client s web page request by finding, selecting, and forming the web page to be transmitted to the client s device. This would be from the time that a client makes a request until they receive the information. This paper will discuss the following subtopics: the past, present, and future of web servers, including other competing technologies; what constitutes a web server; ... However, the new trend under discussion is the technology of cloud hosting and infrastructure. With this, the cloud infrastructure will become the default web server environment. This means that there will be a move towards open source platform services, a greater focus on small businesses, developers, and individuals, developers will be the center of future IT departments, and growth will outpace the traditional market. Anatomical MRI We applied automated tools to correct for large scale variations in image intensities30 and to remove extracerebral tissue31. We then removed connecting dura manually on each slice in the sagittal, axial, and coronal views. We first coregistered all participant brains to an initial template using a similarity transform that maximized mutual information32 and then applied a high dimensional, nonrigid fluid flow algorithm33 to warp each brain to the exact size and shape of the template brain. We applied spectral fitting to the frequency domain signal to identify peaks for N acetyl aspartate (NAA), creatine+phosphocreatine (Cr), choline containing compounds (Ch), and glutamate+glutamine (Glx). We modeled the spectrum for those peaks with Gaussian Lorentzian curves, which were fitted to the data using a least squares curve fitting routine. The areas under the fitted curves estimated concentrations of the metabolites in each voxel of the brain. We performed quality control of the data by visually assessing the spectrum in each MRS voxel and rejected data from voxels with strong lipid contamination, insufficient suppression of residual water, unresolved Cr and Ch peaks, or full width at half maximum 12 Hz for the peaks. We then computed background noise for the MR spectrum as the standard deviation of the real part of the complex spectrum free from the metabolite signal, and then computed the signal to noise ratio (SNR) for each metabolite level. The average SNR for NAA was greater than 280, an excellent SNR attributable to use of the 8 channel head coil. We then generated a spectroscopic image (SI) for each metabolite as the ratio of peak area to background noise for each MRS voxel in the brain. Taking the ratio of the peak area to the background noise accounted for variations in receiver and transmitter gain across scans. We subsequently processed the spectroscopic images to correct for both partial volume effects within each MRS voxel and the dispersion ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

First Day-Day Descriptive Writing The First December Day I woke slowly, eyelashes fluttering gently as I blinked my way into reality gently rising from the slumber I had plunged into the night before. Sunlight was just barely sneaking through the bamboo blinds of my light pink room, leaving my bed in a shadow of deep purple as if it was afraid to pull me from my dreaming too soon. The room was still chilly and the floorboards a frigid slate of ice as I pulled on the slipper socks that my mother had set beside my bed, and sleepily padded over to the window. With a soft yawn and a stretch, I slowly tugged on the fraying, yellowed string controlling the shades, fiddling with it slightly as I pulled with all of the might that my tiny form could allow. Mumbai, India. ravishrsingh@yahoo.com ronakkhandelwal2804@gmail.com prof.manoj@gmail.com Abstract: In this paper a hybrid technique is used for determining the face from an image. Face detection is one of the tedious job to achieve with very high accuracy. In this paper we proposed a method that combines two techniques that is Orthogonal Laplacianface (OLPP) and Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO). The formula for the OLPP relies on the Locality Preserving Projection (LPP) formula, which aims at finding a linear approximation to the Eigen functions of the astronomer Beltrami operator on the face manifold. However, LPP is non orthogonal and this makes it difficult to reconstruct the information. When the set of features is found by the OLPP, with the help of the PSO, the grouping of the image features is done and the one with the best match from the database is given as the result. This hybrid technique gives a higher accuracy in less processing time. Keywords: OLPP, PSO, INTRODUCTION: Recently, appearance based face recognition has received tons of attention. In general, a face image of size n1 × n2 is delineating as a vector within the image house Rn1 × n2. We have a tendency to denote ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

With this piece of knowledge, I find myself wanting to reject the idea of radio being available to help us find new music, instead I see it as a way to promote certain artists and profit off of them without actually paying their songs because its good. Boys were taught how to hunt, fish, and fight from their fathers. Girls learned how to cook, clean, and do chores around the house. Also, the children went to school and played with dolls, toys, and games. For example, the Cheyenne kids enjoyed playing the hoop game and lacrosse. A Cheyenne woman was responsible for building her family s house. She dragged heavy posts with her whenever the tribe moved. Later on, the Cheyenne Indians killed buffalo so they could use buffalo hide to make teepees. They lived in teepees because it was easy to set up and take down. As a result of moving frequently, a teepee allowed the Cheyenne tribe to move within an hour. The Cheyenne women harvested corn, squash, and beans while the men hunted deer and buffalo. Also, they ate fish, fruit, and berries. For clothing, the Cheyenne women wore long deerskin dresses that were decorated with porcupine quills, shells, and elk teeth. Cheyenne men wore breechcloths with leather leggings in colder climates. Men wore moccasins while the women wore high fringed boots. Chief leaders had tall feather headdresses and long warbonnets. The hair style for men was long braids with a topknot and women wore their hair loose or braided. The Cheyennes painted their faces for war, religious ceremonies, and feasts. Lastly, the Cheyenne people were very religious. They performed an elaborate Sun Dance, smoked peace pipes, built ceremonial houses, and four arrows represented their sacred object. The tribal government of the Cheyenne Indians was called the Council of Forty Four. It was formed by ten bands of the tribe. The council was made up of four chiefs from each band as well as four Old Man chiefs. Each chief served a ten year term. Every summer, the Council of Forty Four made decisions ... • 17. A Misunderstanding Of Gerald Finzi s Music One misunderstanding of Finzi s style to those reflecting on his music, was that he refused to use higher dissonant notes, which was a component in twentieth century music. This is a way that people recognized Finzi s work because he kept his options open with new possibilities, but restricted himself from specific rules. For example, a dominant seventh chord in a motet by Byrd is as dissonant in its context as the opening chord of the finale of Beethoven s ninth symphony. In other words, those characteristics were prominent in determining pieces by other composers, such that small notation was recognizable for Finzi s work. Compositions Subsequently, Gerald Finzi s musical compositions gathered much fame, but in a rare storyline. Throughout his life, only two of Finzi s pieces were physically made. Dies natalis, and White flowering days are the pieces Finzi composed. Furthermore, he was not encouraged to record his compositions, he was only interactive in conducting his own music in concerts and broadcasts. During the 1939 1945 war, his musical talent was surpassed for the moment being. Finzi continued to develop as he felt more intentions for his musical skills when observing the new characteristics of his country during the war. Although he continued to compose, a majority of his music was not yet recorded until after his death. An example would be a clarinet concerto, Five Bagatelles, which was written during the war to portray the passing moments during his ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Theseus rose above and beyond any other hero by using his intellect and not just superior strength. He refused to take the easy path and instead took the path he felt was right. The myth of Theseus proves that intellect, courage, and compassion can be superior to strength and brute force. Theseus, unlike many of the Greek heroes, was not only the son of a god, but a mortal man as well. Some versions of the myth claim that his dual paternity was caused by his mother having relations with both Poseidon, god of the sea, and Aegeus, the king of Athens, in the same night. Other version claim he was the son of either one or the other. Before Theseus was born, King Aegeus left a pair of sandals and his sword in a hollow covered ... All Theseus needed to do was attach a thread to the entrance of the labyrinth and unwind it as he ventured farther inside. He agreed and bravely went forth to challenge the Minotaur using only his mind and raw strength. Theseus successfully defeated the Minotaur and ended the tribute for good. He, Ariadne, and the rest of the tributes returned to the ship on which they came to journey back to Athens. Ariadne never made it to Athens. In some versions of the myth Theseus deserts her while in others she dies of sea sickness. Such short development time would require IDEO to compromise on its proven development process and sacrifice the emphasis on innovation. However since the category itself is growing, Handspring can grab market share without head on competition with current players. This opportunity may not be present once the Category reaches maturity stage. Hence, it may be a bad idea to delay the product launch, for designing an ideal product. Handspring will be better served by putting a functional product early on than, ideal product much later. It can be argued that handheld devices market is on the Chasm stage, as explained by Gordon Moore . Handspring s plug in modules can be an innovative feature which can accelerate adoption of handheld devices by masses. However, the currently proposed feature may not significant enough to be a disruptive innovation. IDEO s time tested development process may help Handspring to develop a truly innovative product. Its use of film techniques often taken for granted nowadays were completely new and had not been done before. Simple things like ceilings on the sets and realistic scenes such as the newsreel, which would not stand out in a modern film, were combined to make a film full of innovative techniques. The director, Orson Welles, developed the use of deep focus to make the flat cinema screen almost become three dimensional, which added a realism that had not been explored before. These techniques make the audience unsure of what they are seeing and are used at other times throughout the film. Realism is a major reason why Citizen Kane stands out from other films of the time. However, it is the way realism and theatrical effects are mixed together that truly marks it out as one of the greatest films ever made. Ceilings on the set allowed for scenes lit by normal lightbulbs, giving the appearance of real rooms, but the theatrical spotlights through the windows in the newsreel showing room and the library highlight parts of the scenery, leaving others in shadow. It is significant to understand that the changes made in the governmental system were so drastic, that they stretched from the Mainland all the way to Taiwan and Hong Kong. The beginning empires of the governmental system in China were certainly different than the country s modern day government. The first empire can be traced back to the year 221 B.C. in which the Qin Dynasty was ruling. The Transformative Power of Sports in the American Civil Rights Movement Martin Luther King Jr. had a dream, but so did Cassius Clay, Jackie Robinson, and Bill Russell. Long before King s famous I Had a Dream speech or Rosa Parks famous protest came something much simpler: Sports. Sports have always had the ability to open peoples eyes in a way that is more impactful than words or actions. From the observed data that we collected, we were able to conclude that when seeds are exposed to radiation, it affects how they grow, if there is any growth at all. Introduction Radiation is an important environmental abiotic factor for plants, and one small section of the electromagnetic radiation spectrum, is called the Photosynthetically Active Radiation (PAR), provides the energy to drive the light reactions of photosynthesis. Such radiation damages biological tissues by detaching electrons from the atoms that make up organic molecules. The results include radiation poisoning, cancer, and elevated mutation ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The 50 mrad radish seed never experienced any growth. The 150 mrad radish seed shot up about 4 cm the first week and then the second and third week stayed at the same height. From these observations we can tell that there was a significant difference between the control and the radish seeds that were inflected with radiation. The ones that contained radiation either experienced no growth at all, experienced stunted growth, and were never as tall as the control. I reject both null hypothesizes, and fail to reject both alternative hypothesizes since the radiation did prove to have an effect on the radish seeds. Conclusion From the obtained data, we were able to fail to reject the alternate hypothesizes. Gamma radiation levels had effects on the radish seeds. Obama And Castro Relationship Analysis A New Relationship in the Works After Obama and Castro Meet in Cuba On March 21, 2016, President Barack Obama delivered a joint press conference with Cuban President Raul Castro at the Revolution Palace in Havana. Obama is the first United States president to visit Cuba in nearly a century. Having it been the first official contact between their two governments in an extraordinarily long time, the two engaged in awkwardly blunt exchanges throughout the press conference. Both mentioned that they were committed to continuing on a path to normalizing relations. Although this was mentioned, there was an underlying hostility between the two as they criticized each other s countries throughout the press conference. A reporter asked Castro about the dissidents his government has arrested and he replied by saying, Give me a list of the political prisoners and I will release them immediately. Just mention the list. What political prisoners? There was an uproar of human rights groups after this comment; however, Castro tried to turn the human rights criticism to the United States. Folsom The Myth of Robber Barons is a short, but excellent book that talks about the entrepreneurs of early America. It argues against the misconception that the successful businessmen of the 19th century, often called the robber barons , amassed a big fortune by robbing the general public, whereas, they became wealthy because they offered good quality products and services at low prices which in turn attracted so many Americans to do business with them. According to Folsom, there are two different kinds of entrepreneurs, market entrepreneurs and political entrepreneurs. Political entrepreneurs were the ones who ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Unfortunately for them, Cornelius Vanderbilt, a market entrepreneur, defeated Fulton, Collins and Cunard. Vanderbilt defeated the Fulton NY/NJ steamship transport monopoly by offering lower rates, earning a reputation for his punctuality, investing in faster and larger ships and providing additional services such as concessions. Apart from this, Folsom claims that market entrepreneurs should not be labeled as robber barons at all. He believes that market entrepreneurs were behind the actual growth of America. Unlike political entrepreneurs, they made sound products and took little or no aid from the government. Market entrepreneurs were known as risk takers and charitable people. Many of them donated money to the needy, built libraries, gave land to farmers and let people go on ships for free or they had a cheaper fare. A few of the most charitable market entrepreneurs were Andrew Carnegie James J. Hill, Cornelius Vanderbilt and John D. Rockefeller. In the later chapters Folsom talks more about these great entrepreneurs. The second chapter of the book talks about the transcontinental railway tycoon, James J. Hill. Hill built the Great Northern without any government aid while remaining highly profitable and efficient. Hill, unlike others, meticulously planned his railways and mapped out the best routes using the least amount of rail possible, while his competitors went for expensive, subsidy draining scenic routes. • 43. Honesty In 12 Angry Men In tough times, it is easy to forget what is right and wrong. The movie Twelve Angry Men is a very clear demonstration on right and wrong. The film is about twelve jurors who are deciding the fate of a young man accused of killing his father. These twelve men all vote for guilty, except for the eighth juror, who votes innocent. It seems very clear that the suspect is guilty, and the eighth juror goes against everyone to give the young man a fair chance. Although all other jurors try to pressure him into voting guilty, he sticks to his gut and eventually proves the suspect innocent. In the 1957 film 12 Angry Men, the eighth juror, Mr. Davis, sticks to his core values of honesty, fair judgement, and hard work to prove the young man accused of killing his father to be innocent. Honesty is a very important trait to have. The eighth juror from 12 Angry Men believes that honesty is of great importance. Not much is known about Mr. Davis, or any of the jurors at the beginning of the movie. As the plot develops, however, the nature of each character is revealed to the audience. It is easy to see that one of Mr. Davis personality traits is honesty. Those who are honest are the most trustworthy, and are often the most loyal. Having complete honesty will get anyone far in life, whether it be through a job, marriage, friendship, or really anything at all, (unless they decide to become a lawyer.) • 47. My Music Experience As a young boy, I have always had an interest in Music. When my family would go on trips and vacations out of state I would listen to music on the car radio and try to memorize all the lyrics, rhythms, tempos, and distinct sounds of the instruments. The first music experience was at the elementary M.E Pearson. When you got to the Fourth grade, the school allowed students to participate in orchestra and gave them the opportunity to learn how to play certain instruments. As I walked into that small trailer and heard the sounds, saw the articulation and how everyone moved as one. I was flabbergasted and knew instantly this is want I wanted to do. Starting Orchestra, I was horrible and I didn t learn how to properly play my first instrument, the cello, until the beginning of sixth grade. As much as I was horrible, orchestra was a positive impact on my life and pushed me to achieve goals. Going down the hall past Mr. Curry s class, bubble and bumpers, and patiently waiting outside the orchestra room at M.E Pearson Elementary were the highlights of each day from fourth to fifth grade. During that time of practice our class would practice articulation, posture, and how to read notes until the bell rang and would let the school know it was time to go home. As boring as it got sometimes, I was always filled with joy and prepared for orchestra the next day. The first time trying out for State was the most intense experience I ever had. Out of all the experiences I have created with ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
