Having a strong and efficient airport is essential to the Pittsburgh regional economy. There are
now more options both for business and leisure travelers in the past two years. There has been an
expansion of new carriers such as Allegiant, Frontier, OneJet, Southern, and Condor. These airlines
are recognized for their strong regional economic growth and a demand for more nonstop service.
The continuous growth in both air service development and real estate development around the
airport is very well known. Costs to the airlines have continued to decrease and the airport s
finances have stabilized. The outstanding momentum seen at Pittsburgh International Airport is

Ban Zhao Lessons For Women
Although Ban Zhao was a woman, she was behind a sexist piece of literature meant for
instruction towards women. It isn t too hard to see this at face value, but there is more going on
here than just that in Lessons for Women . Ban Zhao was a woman who embraced the sexism and
strict gender roles in ancient China who also wrote for and taught women how to be like her in
this way, her style and perspective were certainly telling of this, and so was her word choice,
intentions, and audience.
Ban Zhao, was an unofficial imperial historian to Emperor Ho. She taught history, writings,
mathematics, and astronomy to Empress Teng and other women. She wrote this piece, Lessons
for Women , which was meant to instruct women how to behave and in many ways who to be.
She was even concerned about her own daughters in these sorts of ways. This impacts the
meaning of the piece in that it shows how deep the expected roles of people were drilled into the
heads of people across the world. Even a mother such as herself thought that these roles were
correct and ideal. It makes the modern interpretation even more shocking because you can see
that people who aren t viewed as equal don t even always realize it. She was writing for the
empire of China, and for the Emperors and Empresses, and for her daughters. The situation was at
a time when women were not necessarily viewed as equals to men. We can see how... Show more

Allusions In Frankenstein
All literature has an underlying message of a constant battle between the forces of good and the
forces of evil. Mary Shelley s Frankenstein is no different. The forces of supposed good and evil
come to clash with the persistent battle between Dr. Frankenstein and his monster. This conflict
between the two forces can be seen to represent the forces of God and Lucifer (or the Devil), as
both the literary and religious characters share a number of characteristics. Mary Shelley, in
Frankensteinuses symbolism and allusions to portray Dr. Frankenstein and the monster as God and
the Devil, leading to their constant battle between good and evil.
The historical context of the novel helps to develop the characters and their personalities.

The monster, within a few months to the day when Frankenstein ran away, becomes an articulate,
educated being who learns to speak and read French, (Watkins). The creature takes life into his own
hands without a paternal figure, and goes to learn about how to communicate with others. This
communication and learning from a family (unbeknownst to them) led him to trust the family,
thinking that they would look past his facial features. At one point, he presents himself to the blind
family patriarch in an... appeal for friendship, (Watkins). This worked initially, but with his pleading
and grabbing the elder blind man, looking as if he was attacking the blind man, the monster was
sent out and forced the family to leave the area. Over the course of the novel, The monster
[becomes] at once more intellectual and more emotional than his maker... the greatest paradox... is
that the monster is even more human than his creator, (Bloom). The monster gradually begins to
learn about the outside world, and the culture developed, unlike Frankenstein, who would lock
himself up and only focus on the task ahead. While the monster has good characteristics, his
inability to control his rage leads to his development from a monster to the

Truth And Reconciliation Commission Essay
Question 3: Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada The Truth and Reconciliation
Commission of Canada was established under the assumption that the Indian Residential Schools
were an assimilation attempt on the First Nation population. This commission led to the
compensation of over $6 billion for those who went to one of these school. Unlike the Truth and
Reconciliation Commission of other nations, the Canadian one was not meant to be a transitional
justice because there was no shift from authoritarian to democratic rule. It was strictly the outcome
of litigation. Furthermore, the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canadawas not approved to

The Canadian government never transitioned from an authoritarian government, and instead
maintained itself as a democracy from before the Residential Schools began till modern day society.
With this knowledge, it is clear why there was no attempt to find the facts about the state s
transgression and how they played a part in the internationally recognized conflict because it did not
only implicate the old government but the current one as well. Truth and Reconciliation
Commissions assume that conflict arose from an authoritarian government and that a democratic
one would not cause nationwide tragedies like that of the Canadian Residential Schools. As a
whole, the general ideas of Truth and Reconciliation Commissions are inaccurate when dealing with
a western power such as Canada, they hold a favorable democratic bias thus not taking into

While eating healthier may be more expensive and time consuming than eating fast food, there are
ways to make the transition to a healthy lifestyle easier. Meal prepping for the week is a good

How Did Sherman s March To The Sea Cut A Swath Of Destruction
Sherman s march to the sea cut a swath of destruction sixty miles wide and two hundred eighty
five miles long from Georgia s industrial hub, Atlanta, to the coastal city of Savannah. During his
march Sherman estimated his forces caused at least one hundred million dollars worth of damage
adding up to a little more than one and a half billion by today s standards. Major General William
Tecumseh Shermanbegan his military career at the United States Military Academy where he
graduated in 1840 as a Second Lieutenant. Once the Civil War broke out he was sent to the
Mississippi area where he quickly distinguished himself and rose through the ranks. He was
eventually placed in command of the forces charged with taking the Mississippi River and gained
the respect of Lincoln. This gained him command of the Army of Tennessee and Georgia with
which he was to split the deep south from the upper south, keeping the Confederate armies busy

goods they could not export items nor could they keep themselves fed with any real consistency. It
did not help that the slaves freed by Sherman were straining already limited resources and the
southerners hated them. However, this was the case in most of the south Sherman s actions were
just a smaller part of the whole. On a larger scale the industrial destruction contributed to the mass
migration of African Americans from the South to Northern industrial cities. The legacy of
Sherman s march to the sea starting with the burning of Atlanta made the southerners wary and
bitter towards the soldiers during the reconstruction period. There were some lasting effects
directly related to Sherman s march, but many repercussions of the war were similar in all areas of

Essay about 5 Ways to Bust California’s Drought
The California water drought has been declared a crisis by the governor of California. 2013 was
the driest year on record, and California could be running out of water. Californians should be
water wise, and their use, or no use, of water will have an enormous impact on this drought. They
can use the techniques published in a recent Time article called, 5 Ways to Bust California s
Drought, to reduce their water use. Landscape techniques, alternate water sources, and the personal
conservation of water can reduce the use of water, and can have a positive change on this water
crisis.

water immensely. Eighty Percent of the state s developed water ... Show more content on

Desalination technology converts the tons of seawater that cover s California s coast into
drinkable water. This process, though expensive and difficult, would provide California with an
endless supply of water. The ocean is a huge part of the California lifestyle, and it could become a
huge source of their water supply too. The Groundwater Replenishment System recycles water to
be used again. It takes in about seventy million gallons of waste water a day and puts it through
a cleaning and purifying process, that then makes this water safe enough to drink. Many people
may not be comfortable with drinking recycled water, but this water could be put to use in
landscaping and farming, adding seventy million extra gallons a day. The desalination process
may be a bit far fetched for now, but using a water recycling program is completely feasible and
would be a huge help in reducing California s use of water. (only its not reducing, its just providing
them with more water to use yknow? how should I phrase that?)
Conservation is the technique that every California Citizen should participate in if the care about
the California water crisis. The average Californian home uses almost two hundred gallons of
water a day, but cutting five minutes off of ones shower time can save up to twenty five gallons of
water a day. A shorter shower time should be implemented by California residents, as well as other
simple lifestyle changes, such as turning the water off while brushing

In all started when in High School one girl got dress coded for dressing like a famous movie star

a long pair of tan colored pants with wide legs and a high waist, paired with a striped tank top
and flat black shoes. This was not showing any of her body beside her arms This is one of the
many stories regarding strict dress codes. Over the years, schools have implemented student dress
codes to address a wide range of issues. For example, in the late 1960s and 70s, young men with

Cell Phone Vs. Hand Free Phone
Divided attention is the capability to carry out more than one task at a time. If task demand is
an easy manner concept, it is not so simply to put into words and switch the task demands in our
everyday life. The passenger supports the driver while finding the way and prompt the driver to
focus on driving ( ). Other research indicates that using hands free cell phones can be distracting as
using handheld devices because the talking is the main distraction. One main difference between a
cell phone conversations versus hand free phone calls is due to the fact that the passenger is in the
car. These differences are visible at the level of performance involving operational, tactical, and
strategic. According to a report (2009), text messaginghas an undesirable effect on virtual driving,
driving performance, and the undesirable impact seems more severe than chatting on the cell phone
while driving.
Divided Attention, Task Demand, and Driving
Divided attention happens in one or more senses at a time. A person using divided attention does
not change from one task to another different task. Using divided attention can cause using a cell

Myelination Essay
Demyelination Areas of high neuroplasticity also tend to be areas of scarce myelination. As
mentioned earlier in this paper, these areas both tend to reside within the evolutionarily new
neocortex. Neocortical areas exhibit an early and brief myelination cycle as compared to older and
deeper brain areas, which exhibit later and extensive myelination. The axons of the neocortex are
long, thin, and sparingly myelinated compared to other regions of the brain, as observed through
Nissl staining. These Nissl stains verify a pattern of myelination in which the highest cortical areas
are the most sparsely myelinated. Perhaps unsurprisingly, the pattern of neural damage, such as
neurofibrillary tangles associated with AD, follows the pattern of myelination. In other words, these
tangles develop in the areas that are most sparsely myelinated. In contrast, areas of heavy
myelination are much more resistant to stressors that cause neuronal degeneration5. It is believed
that areas of decreased myelination are characteristic of cells retained in their juvenile state. Without
the structural encasing of myelin, these cells are more flexible to changes, and thus have higher
plasticity than cells that are heavily myelinated. Therefore, neurons of the neocortex are likely
highly plastic largely because of their lower degree of myelination. In addition to increasing
neuroplasticity, demyelination may provide... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The Christmas stocking symbolizes Christmas, which is traditionally a Christian holiday, but also

The gift giving in the stockings is an important part of the Christmas experience and represents a
spirt of generosity, goodwill and giving. (King, 2017) These beliefs are also embodied within the
Christian culture.
Now that I ve portrayed the stockings symbolism, let s learn about some of the current ways to use
them. Although in the past stockings were used for gold coins, or citrus fruits such as oranges, the
modern day traditions are somewhat different.
Stockings are usually created in the shape of an oversized sock. Many families practice the
tradition of personalizing their stockings with names, favorite hobbies and/or interests of the
individual. Stockings can be handmade or store bought. They come in many colors, themes,
materials and fabrics. The options are endless when it comes to personalizing your own stocking.

Essay on Raphael Sanzio Inspired
It was once said by Josef Albers that, Any color subtracts its own hue from the colors which it
carries and therefore influences. An artist works upon people, places, and things that incite them to
express themselves. It is these things that lay the foundation for a masterpiece that goes on to
influence future artists. This is how the artist RaphaelSanzio came about being one of the best of
his time. Raphael took methods and ideas from his surrounding colleagues and then he would
combine them with his own personality to create some of the best works from his era. Raphael

To make the work his own, Raphael would mix in his own personal sentiment into his work.
Without this touch, Raphael s work would simply be a copy of the work by Pietro Perugino. (
Raphael. ) Not only does Raphael s artwork simulate the paintings of Perugino but, it also channels
a strong Da Vinci influence with its pyramidal composition, contour, balance, and interplay of light
and dark (chiaroscuro) and sfumato (extremely fine, soft shading instead of line to delineate forms
and features). (Raphael Sanzio. ) Leonardo Da Vinci s inspiration on Raphael can be most
prominently seen in his well known series of Madonnas. One of the several techniques favorably
utilized by Da Vinci is pyramidal composition. Pyramidal composition is a device used to pull
the audiences eyes to view a painting from the top to the bottom rather than from left to right. In
pyramidal compositon the objects in the painting are enclosed in what can be noted as an
imaginary triangle. ( Renaissance Baroque Art. ) This technique can be easily and most
obviously seen in Sanzio s Madonna of Belvedere and The Canigiani Madonna. In Madonna of
Belvedere see figure 3 the Virgin Mary is the main structure of the triangle. In her hands she is
holding a child at her feet and is glancing at St. John. Because of the pyramidal composition, it
draws the viewers eyes to begin looking at the picture from Mary s head and work their way down
to her feet where the two children are seen. Then in The Canigiani

Effective Crime Management
Management of Crime 12
The Management of Crime can only be Effective
When the Wider Police Family is Utilized
Introduction
Crime is a complicated study that police forces have engaged in more in recent decades to
determine the best methods for managing its occurrence. Methods of management run the gamut
from old fashioned relational policing in which the officer gets to know a certain group of people
intimately by walking a prescribed route through neighborhoods, to the much more modern idea of
containing crime by using different technological and scientific methods. The main issue with the
different modes of crime management is that they are all effective to a certain degree, but it is
difficult to determine to what extent. There have been studies conducted to see what is the most
effective means of minimizing crime, but the general finding is that it is largely dependent on
time and location. No one method has been gauged to be completely successful, so it is difficult
to know which one to use. A premise, one that is given away by the title to this paper, is that only
by using the wider police family can crime be effectively managed. This does not mean that crime
has to be contained using a family hierarchical model, but that every member and department of a
police force must be utilized correctly. This may also seem to be a shotgun approach to policing,
but it is far from it. A scientific method is employed to make sure that every officer is used in the

Essay On The Protest Movement
The groups who fought the early battle for recognition and treatment of AIDS formed a protest
movement similar to those involved in the fight for women s suffrage, and for civil rights. The
consensus of authors like Herbert Spires and Mirko Grmek is that a strong, organized civil
disobedience protest movement was necessary to combat the general apathy towards AIDSfrom
both the government and from the medical community. However, there was some disagreement
about this civil disobediencefrom people like John W Toomey. Additionally, the protest
movement
itself was divided into two factions, gay men on one side, and women and minorities on the other.
Each had disparate experiences with that AIDS community, and each disagreed on the focus of the
movement. In the end, both factions utilization of mainstream protest methods, along with civil
disobedience, had a major effect on AIDS research and lead to life saving changes in the treatment
of individuals living with AIDS.
In July of 1981, a rare form of cancer was killing gay men in New York and California. This new,
deadly homosexual disease would come to be known as AIDS, Acquired Immune Deficiency
Syndrome. In the decade or so that followed, as it became clear that this was not merely gay
disease, but a disease that affected, women, hemophiliacs and children, the government reacted with
indifference. This led those affected to fight for recognition and for treatment options.
When the AIDS epidemic started in the early

Characteristics Of A Business Entity
=Characteristics of Business Entities=
Before we can review each type of business entity, we need to cover a few characteristics that may
differentiate each business structure:
Liability : Liability refers to how much financial responsibility will be held by a business or
individual in the event of business losses. In business terms, this often means who will be held
financially responsible in the event that debts cannot be repaid or the business suffers losses
from an action by a court of law. This issue brings about two distinct concepts called unlimited
liability or limited liability. Unlimited liability means that the owners of the business will be held
financially liable for loses incurred by the business. What this ultimately means is that creditors
or a court of law can seize an individual s personal assets (their personal home, personal car,
personal bank accounts etc.) in order to pay debts that were incurred by the business. Limited
liability, on the other hand, means that often times the owners or investors will only be held liable
up to the extent of their investment. However, courts can still seize personal assets of investors if
fraud has occurred that lead to the failure of the business.
Double Taxation : For certain business structures, primarily corporations, the profits of the entity
will be taxed a minimum of two times. When a corporation earns profit, the corporation will be
levied a corporate income tax on those profits. If the

Parris, during her employment at the Proctor s household, she fell in love and had an affair with
John Proctor. However her love was unrequited, despite misguided impressions that John loved
her. These dire events in Abigail s life led to her manipulative, selfish yet desperate nature and this
nature is what empowered Abigail to cry witch . Miller s portrayal of Abigail endears with her
language displaying hysteria, power, love, and the harsh reality of her childhood, all of which were
factors empowering her to impel the trials. These factors are demonstrated in both the dialogue and
the stage directions accompanying them. Abigail undoubtedly displays hysterical qualities, without
them her imagination alone could not have capacitated such a dramatic ploy. This is shown
particularly in Act 3. For example her being in genuine conversation with the bird , But god made
my face; you cannot want to tear my face. The stage directions often dictate that she is transfixed ,
open mouthed , frightened eyes creating the sense that she truly believes what is happening to her.
Abigail is a powerful girl, clever and even manipulative . Her part in the trials is apparently
unsympathetic due to her adopted role as the leader of the girls i.e. the witnesses. This power is
demonstrated through her authoritative short, sharp, to the point sentences when addressing the
girls, Now look you. All of you. , We danced. ,

Economic Analysis of Remedial Education and How it...
INTRODUCTION
Education is an important part of one s life. It can shape a student s identity, challenge his biases,
and encourage him to be inquisitorial and entrepreneurial in his thinking. Education can also push a
student through institutions only to ascertain that he meets some minimum standard. Modern day
high schools are graduating students in record numbers (Richmond 2013) , but the prevalence of
remediation in higher education illustrates the structural failure of American public schools to
effectively, adequately, and equitably educate students, especially indigent student populations
(Strong American Schools). As such, this issue requires serious public policy consideration.

The four year colleges do not admit remedial students, whereas the community colleges are
required by charter to accept every New York City high schoolgraduate who applies. While the
city lauds rising enrollment rates as evidence of its improved performance CUNY s community
colleges have had to double their annual spending on remediation in just a decade, to $33 million.
Kamenev touches on the role of teachers and how remedial classes cheapen the role of college
professors to de facto high school teachers.
Laura Diamond, reports in The Atlanta Journal Constitution, that nearly 23,000 Georgians enter
college unprepared and have to take learning support classes. Up to $22 million is spent in state
annually on these remedial courses (Diamond 2010). Remedial course credit does not count
toward diploma requirements and only about 25% of remedial students in Georgia earn a bachelor

Marx, K. F. Engels Bourgeois and proletarians
Tom Considine
Marx, K. F. Engels (1972 [1848], p.1) said The history of all hitherto existing society is the
history of class struggles. (Marx, K. F. Engels 1972 [1848], p.1) This is the opening text from
Marx and it is the theme of the rest of the chapter. Marx writes of the oppression of the proletarians
and how the capitalist bourgeoisie have commodified them. He describes his disapproval for the
capitalists stating that there is revolt from the proletariats due to the exploitation that was taking
place, this would be the same for any capitalist society. Throughout the text there is the overriding
idea that society would benefit with equality and public ownership (socialism). ... Show more

Marx is trying to convey that capitalism is a poor way for a society to operate however i can see that
this method would be more efficient and competitive, thus increasing the productivity of the
economy.
Marx s idea is that property should be publicly owned, individuals should cooperate, production
is social and everything is shared equally. Marx, K. F. Engels (1972 [1848], p.42) said Of all the
classes that stand face to face with the Bourgeois today, the proletariat alone is a really
revolutionary class (Marx, K. F. Engels 1972 [1848], p.42). Marx believes this is because the
laborers where the individuals who created socialism because they wanted to fight for their
rights and become equal. They succeeded because they were the majority and therefore had a
power over the Bourgeois because with the labour there would be no capitalism. The first reason
I disagree with socialism is because price signals become distorted or absent, the market price for
goods and services cannot be rationally allocated if the individuals aren t earning income in a free
market. If all individuals receive an equal income and everything is shared then what is the
incentive to work harder? If there is no incentive to earn a higher wage then individuals may be less
motivated. Decreased motivation means that there will be a decrease in efficiency and thus a
decrease in production, therefore the economy will suffer. The last argument against socialism is
that it the advancement of

Pros And Cons Of Filing A Whistleblower Suit
In my opinion, filing a whistleblower suit is definitely not for the faint of heart. There is definitely
anxiety and stress associated with uncovering and eventually reporting alleged fraud. In an effort to
prevent the whistleblower from revealing the lawsuit to anyone, whistleblower or qui tam cases are
generally filed under court seal. This means the relator cannot discuss the case with family, friends
or co workers until the government has completed their investigation and can oftentimes be difficult
on the person bringing the evidence to light, as this may bring about feelings of isolation. The
government uses the seal to their advantage in order to covertly investigate any and all allegations

While there are many stakeholders who care about the financial situation of associated companies,
like suppliers, customers, or creditors, the main addressees of business valuation are strategic
investors who want to buy a significant stake in a company, as well as companies in the same
industry that consider merging with another firm in order to push forward vertical or horizontal
integration.1 And as a matter of fact, business valuation is by far not an easy task. There are
hundreds of possible factors adding to the equation when it comes to determining the value of a
business.2 Actually, just knowing the current value3 of an entire corporation, a factory or a certain
department within an existing enterprise, usually does for itself not help much. Rather it is actually
very uncommon that the current value of a business equals the price that s paid by investors.4 The
purchase price for a company is largely dependent on influences like the economic environment in
general (boom or crisis), the demand for one single enterprise or its products5, the situation of the
current shareholders6 etc. Other factors which can result in a difference between the value of a
company and the price paid are for example the qualification of the existing management, the extent
to which the company is seen

Effects Of Captive Enrichment On Fish Production Essay
Effects of Captive Enrichment on Fish Production: Fathead Minnows (Pimephales promelas)
Introduction
Environmental enrichment for fish in captive environments has not been studied often, unlike that
of mammals. However, in the last decade there have been more attempts to study it. Moreover,
structural environmental enrichment is the focal point at this time. Structural environmental
enrichment is the addition of a structure (e.g. toys, buoys, artificial vegetation) to the rearing
environment (Naslund Johnsson, 2014). Enrichment can affect a variety of aspects of the biology
of captive fish, such as, stress, injury, disease susceptibility, aggression, and energy expenditure
(Gerber et al., 2015)). A recent study conducted by Naslund and Johnsson (2014), found that
environmental enrichment can be divided into groups. These groups include: physical enrichment,
sensory enrichment, dietary enrichment, social enrichment, and occupational enrichment. Since,
some of those are difficult to test, physical enrichment is what is being studied now. All species of
fish are not the same and prefer certain substrates rather than others. Therefore, since the Fathead
Minnows that we will be studying and conducting this research on, will depend on what they prefer.
The goal of this study is to test whether captive enrichment effects the reproduction success of P.
promelas.
Background
Fat Head minnows can survive in a variety of environments such as creeks, headwaters, rivers,
lakes, and

Self Reflection
Coming into a college writing course, I did not expect it to be easy. Throughout high school
essays were very easy to write due to teachers cutting way too much slack and handing out easy
grades. Writing has always been difficult for me, but I feel this is because I have not been
challenged yet to demonstrate my full writingability. I had yet to develop my own voice as a
writer. Throughout this course, I was met with many challenges to bring out the true writer inside
of me and because of this, I was ultimately able to grow as a writer. The essays that I have written
throughout the WRC 1013 course demonstrate that I have developed better annotation skills,
communication skills and personal responsibility skills; however, I still need to improve in
proofreading and learning how to receive more revisions from my peers.
After going through my essays, one self reflection throughout my papers I was able to gather
was my growth in developing good annotation throughout my chosen sources. For example, in
my first paper Behind the Screen VS. The Real World , my annotation and gathering information
from sources was very poor. This is shown in the essay where I completely stated the opposite of
what Rita Dove was trying to say in her piece Loose Ends . I state that, As you can see, this is
one of many reasons as to how so much screen time can have a negative influence on people
which is what Rita Dove is implying in her article ( Behind the Screen Vs. The Real World 2). This

135 children, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif announced a 20 point National Action Plan to combat
terrorism, but none of the 20 points in the act pertained to students or education(Sheppard). The
Pakistani government continues to fail its female citizens by not protecting them and their right
to education. Not only does education need to be accessible, but it also needs to improve in
quality. The quality of an education is greatly affected by a lack of resources. Lacking resources
include money, technology, and protection that make education more affordable and accessible.
Many schools that girls are able to attend in Pakistan are small and not publicly funded. This is a
reason for why they are not able to hire quality teachers or invest in technology that will improve
their education (Sharif). Since there are many more schools for boys that receive funds from the
government, they will continue to be a step ahead of women in all areas of life. In this way,
women lose the skills that enables them to think critically and question established wisdom, which
thereby restricts them from rising above prejudice, myth, and historical legacies that are holding
them back (Sharif). A future where girls can still not go to school and study freely, is a dark future.

Critical Analysis Of Kipling
Journal Four: Audience In this piece, there would be two separate audiences. There would be the
audience the piece was directly written to, his son, and then the audience that the piece was
broadly applied to, everyone else. As far as his son goes, the message would be more sentimental
and direct for him. The overarching goal is for him to be a Man. The way for him to get there
would be from the communicator, his father, and taking the experiences that are being shared with
him to learn from them. The value would be a lot closer and stronger with this audiencecompared to
the audience of everyone else because of the emotional bond shared between the two. As for the
broader audience, the closeness would vary depending on their stance on manhood and their life
experiences. Some households are brought up differently and the ideology of being a man is much
stronger, while others don t hold it as high. In addition, life experiencecan play a role because the
maturity of an individual is largely shaped by the experiences that they go through. Therefore,
where a person is in life and what they have gone through will play a significant role in determining
the impact that this piece makes in that individual s life.

Women In Nathaniel Hawthorne
1.2.Nathaniel Hawthorne and Women
Nathaniel Hawthorne (1804 1864) is one of the great American short story writers and novelists of
the 19th century. He has utilized many themes in his writings, one example of his themes is the
portrait of female and this is considered as revolutionary for his era. Patricia says Hawthorne has
created a wide range of female characters such as strong, independent minded, self confident and
others types are docile, fragile, and submissive. In addition, Charles Swann posited that some
characteristics of Hawthorne s women are strong and weak, charming and rueful, vivid and quiet

Roy Male says, Hawthorne creates women characters with either a malicious or an evil feature to
relay to the reader a more allegorical meaning. Many would say he targets women without
justification, while a reader may interpret him to be a misogynist. Katharine Gilbert also regards
that Hawthorne in the past been generally accepted as a misogynist, because he depicts negative
conceptualization on his women s image (72). Nina Baym disputes that assumption. She claims the
misogynist label toward Nathaniel Hawthorne is unfair. She further mentions Hawthorne never
viewed women as unimportant people, but rather, emotional, intellectual, and spiritual partners. In
the Nathaniel Hawthorne: A Biography, Arlin Turner demonstrated women often played crucial
roles in Hawthorne s development and they inspired some of the women characters who appear in
his fiction

Diversity And Equality And Diversity
Diversity tends to be established by people from different spheres of life including different
ethnicities, cultures, and social settings. It allows individuals to appreciate and understand the
interdependence of culture, the environment in which people are living, and humanity. Diversity
also helps individuals to build alliances and unity despite having a difference regarding their beliefs,
religion, and culture. It helps one to recognize and appreciate that people are born different
regarding their personality and values so that one can accommodate those differences and live
together in peace and harmony. There are some ways through which diversity can be promoted.
Some of those ways include; creating an environment that includes all persons regardless of their
social status and economic background. Secondly, diversity can be improved by ensuring there is
equal access to jobs and opportunity for all people without discrimination. Thirdly, diversity can be
enhanced by making amendments in the organization policies, procedures, and process. Fourthly,
diversity can be strengthened by ensuring people are included and treated with fairness and dignity.
Fairness helps to eliminate issues and differentials because it encourages all members of the society
feel appreciated.

You also have the right to know why a claim was denied. Lifetime limits are now a thing of the

with chronic or serious conditions (such as cancer) from reaching an arbitrary maximum and
being denied essential benefits. Insurance companies will now also be responsible for publicly

The Office of Warren G. Harding
In the early 1920s, after facing the struggles of World War I, the Palmer Raids, and Wilson s fall,
Americans craved stability. Republicans were promising a return to the settled country we once
were, and this eventually led to the election of Warren G. Harding, the first Republican president
in the decade. One of his first acts as president was allowing people to walk on the White House
garden, reassuring the citizens that their government was returning to them after a time of hardship.
During his campaign, Harding called for normalcy , a consistent period of peace and quiet,
something that appealed to Americans after the time of relentless strain. Despite the scandals,
President Harding was successful during his term, as he delivered to the public what he had
promised, a return to normalcy and revival, by lowing income taxfor the rich, passing many tariffs,
and initiating the Washington Naval Conference.
Harding listened to the demands of the rich citizens, in terms of taxes. In 1921, he created the
Bureau of the Budget, which provided the government with an accounting of its income, and it
eventually helped in assessing past performances and in planning future government programs. This
Bureau also allowed the government to decide what is best for the citizens and for the economy
very easily. It saved so much money during such a crucial time, as it, for the first time ever, limited
government spending. Additionally, Mellon, Harding s Secretary of Treasure, introduced

Victoria s Influence On Tom Luis Luis De Victoria
The 16th century was a time of the Spanish Inquisition, which reigned for almost 400 years,
forcing those who weren t Catholic to convert to Catholicism (Koeller). Catholicism was a major
influence in all aspects of Spanish life at that time, ranging from music to art and daily living.
Being a 16th century composer, TomГЎs Luis De Victoria was greatly influenced by the Catholic
Church. Most, if not all of his music consisted of sacred pieces (Ferris). He was a Spanish
polyphonic composer whose specialty was in motets. Not only was he one of the greatest
composers and musicians of his time, he was also a scholar, a mystic, and a priest.
Victoria was born in 1548 in SanchidriГЎn, Spain, a province of Avila, Castile to father, Francisco
Luis de Victoria and mother, Francisca SuГЎrez de la Concha. Victoria was seventh of eleven
children who were born into a family already leading vast and successful careers. Three of his male
cousins (on his mother s side) achieved success by being a naval commander, a pioneer in Mexico,
and a merchant in Florence. The merchant married Grand Duke Cosimo I de Medici s sister in law
and was ennobled. The uncle on Victoria s father s side, who he was named after, was a lawyer
who pleaded cases before the royal chancery at Valladolid (a city in north central Spain) and was
later a priest. His other uncle on his father s side was also a priest (Stevenson).

The Causes Of The Khmer Rouge
The Khmer Rouge carried out one of the most horrific genocides in the twentieth century. The
nation of Cambodia was in a near decade civil war between the Communist (Khmer Rouge) and
the monarchy and then the Khmer Republic. The Khmer Rouge won the civil war and controlled
all of Cambodia from 1975 to 1979. During this time, they committed horrific crimes against their
own people. This genocidal regime was one of the worst events in the later years of the 1900s, and
it is not well talked about in schools. The Khmer Rougemovement started back in the 1940s when
Cambodiawas fighting for freedom from the French government. Over the years, the Northern
Vietnamese influenced much of the group s practices and beliefs. They gained so much members
during the Lon Nol era because many Cambodian people lost family from the American
bombings (whom Lon Nol was allied with). Through fear and threats, the Khmer Rouge scared
the people into moving into the countryside. They abolished all things that have to do with
capitalism. They brainwashed people into starving the population, torturing the accused , and
murdering any who oppose the Khmer Rouge way of life and leadership. This led to widespread
poverty of Cambodia, and the people learned to love and respect everyone because of the hate
shown to them during this horrific event. Many, til this day, still do not share their stories of what
happened during this time because they are scared to be reminded of what was committed against
them. That is why the country is still corrupt today because the two decade old prime minister Hun
Senwas an ex Khmer Rouge Soldier. The Khmer Rouge group was created in the 1940s, but it was
during the Vietnam War that the KR gained more power and became more prominent. The Khmer
Rouge is an off shot from the North Vietnamese government and essentially was funded by their
government. The Vietnamese helped to make the KR a real political party in the Cambodian
political system. Without their help, they could not afford to provide a whole army guns, military
vehicles, and other military resources. It was in 68 when the group launched a full scale national

Stop Motion Animation
Stop motion animation requires the shooting of physically manipulated still objects to appear as
moving objects.
Some use dolls, props or clay (also known as called Claymation) to sequentially move an object in
between individually shot frames.
Depending on the preference of the director, stop motion animation may also require either
traditional or computer animation to supplement the movie s other visual requirements such as the
backgrounds, sets, and props.
Examples of stop motion animation on TV are commonly children s shows such as Morph, Shaun
the sheep, Bagpuss, The Clangers, Noddy and Wallace and Gromit s World of Invention.
The advantage of stop motion animation is that you can be creative because there aren t many
limitations on what you can do with an object like you do in real life.
The disadvantage is that it s very time consuming and extremely laborious and you have to make
sure the camera s still because one little slip up shows very clearly.
Clay animation:
It is similar to stop motion animation however using clay. It works by capturing each frame and
then playing the recorded shots to see a live action.
Clay animation films were created in the 1908 s, however it s in 1916 that it started to become
popular overseas.
Each clay character is produced by using a wire and clay, the wire is called an armature.
The disadvantage of clay is that it s very fragile therefor when producing and shooting the
characters and

Oral And Oral Of Dental Hygienists
Introduction As dental hygienists we are members of the healthcare community. That means that
we have an extremely important role when it comes to the health of our patients. When patients
present themselves in our treatment room, it is our responsibility to make sure we do not leave
anything unexamined. We are professionals in the practice of identifying, preventing, and treating
oral diseases. We do this by completing thorough extraoral and intraoral exams and being
conscious of what to look for. One particular exam that we do is an oral cancerexam. As dental
hygienists we are at the forefront in identifying this disease. In an article written by Nancy
Burkhart, a coauthor of General and Oral Pathology for the Dental Hygienist, she states, It is
known that oral cancer is more likely to be detected in an early stage in the dental office than
those found at a physician s office, which tend to be at a later stage. (Burkhart, 2014) This may
be because dental hygienists focus more on the oral tissues than physicians do; or the fact that
patients go to a doctor when it is already at advanced stages. It is imperative that we as dental
hygienists know the signs and symptoms of oral cancer, as well as the risk factors involved in
developing the disease and how it can be prevented. While it is important as a dental hygienist to
identify oral diseases, it is more important to educate our patients on how they can avoid any
potential abnormalities from becoming severe problems,

Synthesis And Testing Of Aa2014 Al2o3
Synthesis And Testing of AA2014 Al2O3(alpha) Nano Composite
Abstract Al2O3 reinforced Aluminium Matrix Composites give advanced mechanical physical
properties. They have voluminous applications in automobile, aerospace, defense, sports,
electronics, bio medical and other industrial fields. Various manufacturing techniques like stir
casting, ultra sonic assisted casting, compo casting, powder metallurgy, liquid infiltration are used
for the production of the aluminium matrix composites. These composites reveal advanced physical
and mechanical properties like lower density, low coefficient of thermal expansion, good corrosion
resistance, high tensile strength, high stiffness, high hardness and wear resistance. Our paper
reviews the characterization of mechanical properties like tensile strength, hardness with production
route of casting for aluminium matrix Al2O3 composites. Al2O3 agglomeration along with the
increasing volume percentage is still a challenging task in composites materials manufacturing.
0.5% by weight of pure magnesium powder is used as wetting agent. Process parameters are
optimized for the stir casting process of aluminium composite. Tensile and hardness test
microstructure study was performed to find the deviation from the aluminium alloy.
Keywords: Agglomeration, stir casting, aluminium composite.

Race Reflection
Throughout my life, I believed that everyone is equal. Since America is known as the perfect
nation of freedom, growing up I thought that every person gets a fair chance to pursue whatever
he/she would like. It was not until the Trayvon Martin travesty that I had an epiphany; we, as
African American, are not equal to other citizens of this nation. No, it was much more beyond
that; black people were considered subpar to the superior white citizens of our so called perfect
country. Once I found this out, I researched more information because the situation we are currently
in is one we must know more about if we want to move forward. Joining the Black Lives Matter
group through social media truly educated me more about the race problem our nation is in. The
police brutality, the constant way the media portrays black people, redlining and gentrification,
etcetera, was an eyeopening experience for me. However, my true shock was watching a
documentary on Netflix, titled The 13th. It was a documentary explaining mass incarceration
within the United Statesand A.L.E.C. becoming exposed for their ways. Before that documentary, I
was aware of the mass incarceration dilemma, but I never fully grasped the severity of the situation.
It was at that moment after watching the documentary, The 13th, the weight of this issue sank in,
allowing me to understand the role our own government played in this and became my introduction

An Analysis Of Frankenstein And The Modern Prometheus By...
An analysis of Frankenstein; or, the modern Prometheus by Mary Shelly
The title of the book, Frankenstein; or, the modern Prometheus is a reference to the story about
Prometheus in Greek mythology. Prometheus was a titan who sided with the other titans to join the
Greek gods in their war against the titans. Since I have not read that story, I do not know much else
about what happened but I assume that ShellyВґs novel will be somewhat similar in the sense that
someone will side with his friends and join the enemy. The title itself is fairly long. That is
probably the reason that it is more known as just Frankenstein. The whole title is certainly
interesting. The book is so famous that everyone knows about it and I would probably have read it
eventually anyway just because of that. But the extended title made it even more interesting. Greek
mythology is usually pretty interesting and that title implies that Mary Shelly wrote her own
version of the story. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Game of Thrones Essay
The Game of Thrones by George R.R. Martin A Game of Thrones is set in the Seven Kingdoms
of Westeros, a land reminiscent of medieval Europe. Fifteen years prior to the novel, the Seven
Kingdoms were torn apart by a civil war, known as the War of the Usurper. Prince Rhaega
Targaryen kidnapped Lyanna Stark angering her family and of her fiancГ©, Lord Robert
Baratheon. The Mad King, Aerys II Targaryen had Lyanna father and brother executed when they
demanded her safe return. Her second brother, Eddard, joined his boyhood friend Robert Baratheon
and Jon Arryn in declaring war against the ruling Targaryen dynasty. The civil war ended when
Prince Rhaegar was killed in battle by Robert Baratheon. The wealthiest family around The

Each perspective is held within a chapter which, when the characters move away from each
other, allows the author to leave minor cliff hangers at the end of each chapter. While six of the
characters from this first book are from the same family, the perspective is shifted around in
preceding books. Death is common is this book and it s was one of the best things about it
because it played well to the realism of the time that is depicted. Main characters are not safe like
in other novels I have read and this made for very exciting reading. Self preservation is often the
cause for character splits and confrontations, and by the end of the book characters you assumed
you would be attached too for some time are left headless and gutless or simply gone.
The novel, A Game of Thrones, begins with an encounter with supernatural beings; this may give
a false impression as to what will come. As the story begins to unfold, the theme moves strongly
into the area of political intrigue and this forthcoming war that will happen as a result. The
fantasy element, while always there plays only a minor role in the majority of the rest of the
book. A Game of Thrones in not your usual fare, it is hard hitting and bad things do happen to the
good people. Two families take centre stage in a battle for the Throne the Starks and the Lannisters.
The Stark family live in the cold hard

Recommendations For Prevention And Mitigation
Recommendations for Prevention/Mitigation
Many ports do not have cyber response plans contained within broader risk plans (Kramek). All of
the ports studied by Kramek had a dedicated security officer and a dedicated IT staff, but the
security officers focus usually remained on traditional physical security threats, and IT was a
separate and distinct department from security (Kramek). Kramek states, cyber security threats
were not part of the security officer s response portfolio . Most security officers thought that their
IT staff would notify them in some form or fashion if a cyber incident threatened port operations
(Kramek). However, when during the response this notification to the security officers would be
made is unclear given the lack of written response plans (Kramek). Ports need their IT department
to be continually communicating with their security department. This would keep all the staff in
the loop on current difficulties and security impairments and allow staff to find a cyber incident
before it becomes too bad. Ports need to make sure that they have thorough written response plans
in the case of a cyber security incident and that all IT and security staff that will be involved are
ready to execute the plan if needed. These plans need to take into account that many industrial
control systems are dependent, like many systems at ports and marine terminals, and run off
computer networks (Sain). As stated by Bethann Rooney, manager of security for the Port

To carry out their mission, their leave, the military cut short due to the requirements of the

of 15 hours, they would be over the drop zone by 0100 hours Syrian time. Climbing to cruising
altitude took a while. They had lots of time for a last minute check of the gear, so they settled in
for the long flight. Closing in on the drop zone, Brooks called out. Lock and load. The last
inspection of their chutes and harnesses went off without a hitch. The aft door of the C 130 began

Descriptive Essay Roommate
I went back into my dorm room. I sat my things down on the kitchen table and turned to the fridge,
opening to get a drink of water as I was literally dying of thirst.
Are you my roommate? I jumped and quickly turned around. My roommate s appearance that I
just met now, has a light brown bob cut, rounded glasses with grey eyes, wearing a casual navy
blue dress with a red leather belt. She stood near the table with her boxes and bags and I gave her a
calm look, with a gentle smile.
Oh yes, my name s Elaine. Nice to meet you, and you are?
I m Kira. Sorry I came here a bit late, traffic. She gave a little laugh and I accepted it. We began
to sit down on the kitchen table and got to know each other as we kept talking, it seemed to be
that she is also new, in my classes, and we could somehow relate with each other on our likes,
dislikes, choices, and other little things. Kira is one of those people who is an introvert at first,
but when you get to talk to her more, she seems to be more easygoing and very kind and friendly.
Hmm, what to do, what to do. I say as I roam around in my small room after saying our goodnights
to each other after our time talking. I decided to lay on the queen sized bed, with my choice of own
sheets that are pink polka dots with a grey background. My walls are a beige colour as everything
else were to be only filled with other colours, mixed with plain such as brown and black.
Elaine, Elaine, Elaine, where are you.. I woke up frightenedly,

The Work In Potential Of Imperfections By Melissa Cunningham
Introduction The discreet, intimate object of the ceramic tea bowl, by itself, is an empty vessel
ready to be filled. Metaphorically speaking, this is similar to the human experience our lives begin
as empty vessels, and as we encounter each experience in our lives, our vessels become filled with
who we are and who we will become. The teabowls in Potential of Imperfections trace beautiful
imperfections, frozen moments, and fragmented experiences. These experiences are direct
references to trauma, decay, and disease and are connections between fragility, imperfection,
intimacy, and the body manifested into palpable, corporeal form. Using the common, yet intimate
object of the ceramic tea bowl as a stand in for the body, traces of beautiful imperfections such as
the distortion through firing, frozen moments as seen in the throwing marks, and fragmented
experiences such as the cracks that have been repaired are revealed. How does displaying a large
collection of tea bowls differ from using just one? Does this evoke a sense of community or the
diversity of experience? The work in Potential of Imperfections by Melissa Cunningham begs to
answer these questions through connections to history, present forms in the processes, and
contemporary art and thought surrounding this installation as well as her body of work.... Show

Obscuring these symbols is emblematic of the discomfort felt when discussing trauma, illness, and
death. (People are often reluctant to talk about their own pain and traumatic experiences, either
because they don t want to seem weakened or vulnerable or because they are ashamed.) In some
cases, the viewer may not be sure what they are looking at, similar to someone not knowing what
to say to a friend experiencing pain. Creating work that incorporates aestheticized and obscure
symbols speaks to the idea of an ontological split a separation of perception and

The View Of The Bible Is Not By The God Cares For Me
Introduction
This paper is targeted at Christians struggling in difficult seasons, wondering if God cares for me .
So, this writer will be using the difference or similarities from historical to contemporary situation,
reflecting OT message. With the aim to enable application of this principle into present day lives.
The key concept is, God s faithful love and promise.
Body
Hence, let us examine the Bible, their writings and contents. To shed light to struggling Christians.
Them meaning ancient Israelites .
OT is a collection of 39 Books, with testimonials revealing God; His activities ; experiences and
encounters with God . So Bible is not just a book . It was written with purpose to reveal and testify
to One and only God. Who is alive, active and everlasting . Also reveals that He is faithful to His
word, purpose and character . What He says stands and will come to pass .
Allow me to elaborate this further. OT begins by revealing God. The Creator of heavens, earth and
every living beings , desiring to bless and have relationship. God s nature is demonstrated, as He
interacts with creation (loving, graceful, faithful, and patient ). Although sin entered the world,
bringing death and severing the relationship . His unfailing love remains and will not be removed .
History shows that God continues with His plan. God chooses Abraham, to bless all nations
through him and his Seed . As they multiplied, covenantal promises were given through Moses. To
instruct,

The Road Not Taken Metaphors
Decision making is a common component in everyday life. When a person makes a decision, they
consider their options, reach a resolution, then commit to them. But as time passes, there are those
who regret their choice and wish to go back to change their decision, while some people are
satisfied with their chosen path. In Robert Frost s poem The RoadNot Taken , the author describes a
decision making process between traveling down one road or the other. Throughout the poem,
Frost uses several poetic devices, including metaphor and enjambment, to help bring his theme
across: it s important to make the best possible decision because it can only be made once, in a
way that encourages readers to think before they act.
Metaphor is one of the poetic devices Frost used in the poem to help readers understand the bigger
picture of life and opportunities. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Yellow is the color of optimism and caution, which is, generally speaking, what many people
think of life. Having the wood being described as yellow, encourages readers to be cautious with
life in general. But by adding two roads diverged , it specifically encourages readers to be
cautious when they have reached a fork in life. In addition, the two roads diverged portrays the
opportunities life gives a person. Considering how he only has one chance to select a road, the
narrator must be careful and make the best decision. Not to mention, the poem takes place in nature,
which is a metaphor that represents how the struggle between great options are natural and
inevitable, just like nature. Because it s natural, one cannot go against nature s force and undo their
decision, like the weather undoing the rain, which is impossible. Through metaphors, Frost s
comparison between the woods and life opportunities makes the audience comprehend the bigger
picture and convey that it would be best to make the optimal decision and not have to regret it

Phobias And Its Effects On Phobias
A phobia is a phenomenon where an organism has a distinct fear of a particular event or object.
Phobias can not only be a biological instinct but rather a conditioned emotional response as well.
Though, there has been some argument on what causes phobia it is generally accepted that phobias
both stem from biological input and environmental experiences. The first reference to phobias was
done by Hippocrates, who wrote about one of his patients having an extreme fearover something
that others would deem to be silly. Around the 1890 s phobias were described as a distinct mental
condition by Freud and his researchers. Freud the creator of psychoanalysis stated that phobias were
simply conflicts within oneself. Thus, to get rid of their phobiathey would have to overcome a part
of himself. However, not everyone was willing to agree with Freud, things like behaviorism for
example, created a system known as conditioning and stimulus generalization to show that fear is
something created through particular behaviors with the use of avoidance. However, despite the
conflicting nonconscious/behavioral argument there is also a biological explanation to phobias.
When someone notices something that could possibly be a threat there are two types of pathways
that are used to decipher the situation/object. The first being thalamo cortico amygdala pathway.
This is a long process where with the use of primary sensory, unimodal association and polymodal
cortices is able to truly identify

  • 3. Ban Zhao Lessons For Women Although Ban Zhao was a woman, she was behind a sexist piece of literature meant for instruction towards women. It isn t too hard to see this at face value, but there is more going on here than just that in Lessons for Women . Ban Zhao was a woman who embraced the sexism and strict gender roles in ancient China who also wrote for and taught women how to be like her in this way, her style and perspective were certainly telling of this, and so was her word choice, intentions, and audience. Ban Zhao, was an unofficial imperial historian to Emperor Ho. She taught history, writings, mathematics, and astronomy to Empress Teng and other women. She wrote this piece, Lessons for Women , which was meant to instruct women how to behave and in many ways who to be. She was even concerned about her own daughters in these sorts of ways. This impacts the meaning of the piece in that it shows how deep the expected roles of people were drilled into the heads of people across the world. Even a mother such as herself thought that these roles were correct and ideal. It makes the modern interpretation even more shocking because you can see that people who aren t viewed as equal don t even always realize it. She was writing for the empire of China, and for the Emperors and Empresses, and for her daughters. The situation was at a time when women were not necessarily viewed as equals to men. The forces of supposed good and evil come to clash with the persistent battle between Dr. Frankenstein and his monster. This conflict between the two forces can be seen to represent the forces of God and Lucifer (or the Devil), as both the literary and religious characters share a number of characteristics. Mary Shelley, in Frankensteinuses symbolism and allusions to portray Dr. Frankenstein and the monster as God and the Devil, leading to their constant battle between good and evil. The creature takes life into his own hands without a paternal figure, and goes to learn about how to communicate with others. This communication and learning from a family (unbeknownst to them) led him to trust the family, thinking that they would look past his facial features. At one point, he presents himself to the blind family patriarch in an... appeal for friendship, (Watkins). This worked initially, but with his pleading and grabbing the elder blind man, looking as if he was attacking the blind man, the monster was sent out and forced the family to leave the area. Over the course of the novel, The monster [becomes] at once more intellectual and more emotional than his maker... the greatest paradox... is that the monster is even more human than his creator, (Bloom). Unlike the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of other nations, the Canadian one was not meant to be a transitional justice because there was no shift from authoritarian to democratic rule. With this knowledge, it is clear why there was no attempt to find the facts about the state s transgression and how they played a part in the internationally recognized conflict because it did not only implicate the old government but the current one as well. Truth and Reconciliation Commissions assume that conflict arose from an authoritarian government and that a democratic one would not cause nationwide tragedies like that of the Canadian Residential Schools. They can use the techniques published in a recent Time article called, 5 Ways to Bust California s Drought, to reduce their water use. Landscape techniques, alternate water sources, and the personal conservation of water can reduce the use of water, and can have a positive change on this water crisis. This process, though expensive and difficult, would provide California with an endless supply of water. The ocean is a huge part of the California lifestyle, and it could become a huge source of their water supply too. The Groundwater Replenishment System recycles water to be used again. It takes in about seventy million gallons of waste water a day and puts it through a cleaning and purifying process, that then makes this water safe enough to drink. Many people may not be comfortable with drinking recycled water, but this water could be put to use in landscaping and farming, adding seventy million extra gallons a day. The desalination process may be a bit far fetched for now, but using a water recycling program is completely feasible and would be a huge help in reducing California s use of water. • 14. Myelination Essay Demyelination Areas of high neuroplasticity also tend to be areas of scarce myelination. As mentioned earlier in this paper, these areas both tend to reside within the evolutionarily new neocortex. Neocortical areas exhibit an early and brief myelination cycle as compared to older and deeper brain areas, which exhibit later and extensive myelination. The axons of the neocortex are long, thin, and sparingly myelinated compared to other regions of the brain, as observed through Nissl staining. These Nissl stains verify a pattern of myelination in which the highest cortical areas are the most sparsely myelinated. Perhaps unsurprisingly, the pattern of neural damage, such as neurofibrillary tangles associated with AD, follows the pattern of myelination. In other words, these tangles develop in the areas that are most sparsely myelinated. In contrast, areas of heavy myelination are much more resistant to stressors that cause neuronal degeneration5. It is believed that areas of decreased myelination are characteristic of cells retained in their juvenile state. Without the structural encasing of myelin, these cells are more flexible to changes, and thus have higher plasticity than cells that are heavily myelinated. Therefore, neurons of the neocortex are likely highly plastic largely because of their lower degree of myelination. In addition to increasing neuroplasticity, demyelination may provide... • 16. Essay on Raphael Sanzio Inspired It was once said by Josef Albers that, Any color subtracts its own hue from the colors which it carries and therefore influences. An artist works upon people, places, and things that incite them to express themselves. It is these things that lay the foundation for a masterpiece that goes on to influence future artists. This is how the artist RaphaelSanzio came about being one of the best of his time. Raphael took methods and ideas from his surrounding colleagues and then he would combine them with his own personality to create some of the best works from his era. (Raphael Sanzio. ) Leonardo Da Vinci s inspiration on Raphael can be most prominently seen in his well known series of Madonnas. One of the several techniques favorably utilized by Da Vinci is pyramidal composition. Pyramidal composition is a device used to pull the audiences eyes to view a painting from the top to the bottom rather than from left to right. In pyramidal compositon the objects in the painting are enclosed in what can be noted as an imaginary triangle. ( Renaissance Baroque Art. ) This technique can be easily and most obviously seen in Sanzio s Madonna of Belvedere and The Canigiani Madonna. In Madonna of Belvedere see figure 3 the Virgin Mary is the main structure of the triangle. In her hands she is holding a child at her feet and is glancing at St. John. • 17. Effective Crime Management Management of Crime 12 The Management of Crime can only be Effective When the Wider Police Family is Utilized Introduction Crime is a complicated study that police forces have engaged in more in recent decades to determine the best methods for managing its occurrence. Methods of management run the gamut from old fashioned relational policing in which the officer gets to know a certain group of people intimately by walking a prescribed route through neighborhoods, to the much more modern idea of containing crime by using different technological and scientific methods. The main issue with the different modes of crime management is that they are all effective to a certain degree, but it is difficult to determine to what extent. There have been studies conducted to see what is the most effective means of minimizing crime, but the general finding is that it is largely dependent on time and location. No one method has been gauged to be completely successful, so it is difficult to know which one to use. A premise, one that is given away by the title to this paper, is that only by using the wider police family can crime be effectively managed. This does not mean that crime has to be contained using a family hierarchical model, but that every member and department of a police force must be utilized correctly. This may also seem to be a shotgun approach to policing, but it is far from it. A scientific method is employed to make sure that every officer is used in the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Essay On The Protest Movement The groups who fought the early battle for recognition and treatment of AIDS formed a protest movement similar to those involved in the fight for women s suffrage, and for civil rights. The consensus of authors like Herbert Spires and Mirko Grmek is that a strong, organized civil disobedience protest movement was necessary to combat the general apathy towards AIDSfrom both the government and from the medical community. However, there was some disagreement about this civil disobediencefrom people like John W Toomey. Additionally, the protest movement itself was divided into two factions, gay men on one side, and women and minorities on the other. Each had disparate experiences with that AIDS community, and each disagreed on the focus of the movement. In the end, both factions utilization of mainstream protest methods, along with civil disobedience, had a major effect on AIDS research and lead to life saving changes in the treatment of individuals living with AIDS. In July of 1981, a rare form of cancer was killing gay men in New York and California. This new, deadly homosexual disease would come to be known as AIDS, Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome. In the decade or so that followed, as it became clear that this was not merely gay disease, but a disease that affected, women, hemophiliacs and children, the government reacted with indifference. This led those affected to fight for recognition and for treatment options. When the AIDS epidemic started in the early ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 19. Characteristics Of A Business Entity =Characteristics of Business Entities= Before we can review each type of business entity, we need to cover a few characteristics that may differentiate each business structure: Liability : Liability refers to how much financial responsibility will be held by a business or individual in the event of business losses. In business terms, this often means who will be held financially responsible in the event that debts cannot be repaid or the business suffers losses from an action by a court of law. This issue brings about two distinct concepts called unlimited liability or limited liability. Unlimited liability means that the owners of the business will be held financially liable for loses incurred by the business. What this ultimately means is that creditors or a court of law can seize an individual s personal assets (their personal home, personal car, personal bank accounts etc.) in order to pay debts that were incurred by the business. Limited liability, on the other hand, means that often times the owners or investors will only be held liable up to the extent of their investment. However, courts can still seize personal assets of investors if fraud has occurred that lead to the failure of the business. Miller s portrayal of Abigail endears with her language displaying hysteria, power, love, and the harsh reality of her childhood, all of which were factors empowering her to impel the trials. These factors are demonstrated in both the dialogue and the stage directions accompanying them. Abigail undoubtedly displays hysterical qualities, without them her imagination alone could not have capacitated such a dramatic ploy. This is shown particularly in Act 3. For example her being in genuine conversation with the bird , But god made my face; you cannot want to tear my face. The stage directions often dictate that she is transfixed , open mouthed , frightened eyes creating the sense that she truly believes what is happening to her. • 21. Economic Analysis of Remedial Education and How it... INTRODUCTION Education is an important part of one s life. It can shape a student s identity, challenge his biases, and encourage him to be inquisitorial and entrepreneurial in his thinking. Education can also push a student through institutions only to ascertain that he meets some minimum standard. Modern day high schools are graduating students in record numbers (Richmond 2013) , but the prevalence of remediation in higher education illustrates the structural failure of American public schools to effectively, adequately, and equitably educate students, especially indigent student populations (Strong American Schools). As such, this issue requires serious public policy consideration. LITERATURE REVIEW The Diploma to Nowhere report by ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The four year colleges do not admit remedial students, whereas the community colleges are required by charter to accept every New York City high schoolgraduate who applies. While the city lauds rising enrollment rates as evidence of its improved performance CUNY s community colleges have had to double their annual spending on remediation in just a decade, to $33 million. Kamenev touches on the role of teachers and how remedial classes cheapen the role of college professors to de facto high school teachers. Laura Diamond, reports in The Atlanta Journal Constitution, that nearly 23,000 Georgians enter college unprepared and have to take learning support classes. Up to $22 million is spent in state annually on these remedial courses (Diamond 2010). Remedial course credit does not count toward diploma requirements and only about 25% of remedial students in Georgia earn a bachelor s degree within six years. Some, like Representative Earl Erhart, head of the Georgia House committee that oversees college budgets, do not sugar coat the situation. Marx writes of the oppression of the proletarians and how the capitalist bourgeoisie have commodified them. Marx is trying to convey that capitalism is a poor way for a society to operate however i can see that this method would be more efficient and competitive, thus increasing the productivity of the economy. Marx s idea is that property should be publicly owned, individuals should cooperate, production is social and everything is shared equally. Marx, K. F. Engels (1972 [1848], p.42) said Of all the classes that stand face to face with the Bourgeois today, the proletariat alone is a really revolutionary class (Marx, K. F. Engels 1972 [1848], p.42). Marx believes this is because the laborers where the individuals who created socialism because they wanted to fight for their rights and become equal. They succeeded because they were the majority and therefore had a power over the Bourgeois because with the labour there would be no capitalism. The first reason I disagree with socialism is because price signals become distorted or absent, the market price for goods and services cannot be rationally allocated if the individuals aren t earning income in a free market. If all individuals receive an equal income and everything is shared then what is the incentive to work harder? If there is no incentive to earn a higher wage then individuals may be less motivated. Decreased motivation means that there will be a decrease in efficiency and thus a decrease in production, therefore the economy will suffer. There are hundreds of possible factors adding to the equation when it comes to determining the value of a business.2 Actually, just knowing the current value3 of an entire corporation, a factory or a certain department within an existing enterprise, usually does for itself not help much. • 27. Effects Of Captive Enrichment On Fish Production Essay Effects of Captive Enrichment on Fish Production: Fathead Minnows (Pimephales promelas) Introduction Environmental enrichment for fish in captive environments has not been studied often, unlike that of mammals. However, in the last decade there have been more attempts to study it. Moreover, structural environmental enrichment is the focal point at this time. Structural environmental enrichment is the addition of a structure (e.g. toys, buoys, artificial vegetation) to the rearing environment (Naslund Johnsson, 2014). Enrichment can affect a variety of aspects of the biology of captive fish, such as, stress, injury, disease susceptibility, aggression, and energy expenditure (Gerber et al., 2015)). A recent study conducted by Naslund and Johnsson (2014), found that environmental enrichment can be divided into groups. These groups include: physical enrichment, sensory enrichment, dietary enrichment, social enrichment, and occupational enrichment. Since, some of those are difficult to test, physical enrichment is what is being studied now. All species of fish are not the same and prefer certain substrates rather than others. Therefore, since the Fathead Minnows that we will be studying and conducting this research on, will depend on what they prefer. The goal of this study is to test whether captive enrichment effects the reproduction success of P. promelas. After the devastating attack on the Army Public School in Peshawar on December 16, 2014, which killed 135 children, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif announced a 20 point National Action Plan to combat terrorism, but none of the 20 points in the act pertained to students or education(Sheppard). The Pakistani government continues to fail its female citizens by not protecting them and their right to education. Not only does education need to be accessible, but it also needs to improve in quality. The quality of an education is greatly affected by a lack of resources. Lacking resources include money, technology, and protection that make education more affordable and accessible. Many schools that girls are able to attend in Pakistan are small and not publicly funded. This is a reason for why they are not able to hire quality teachers or invest in technology that will improve their education (Sharif). Since there are many more schools for boys that receive funds from the government, they will continue to be a step ahead of women in all areas of life. In this way, women lose the skills that enables them to think critically and question established wisdom, which thereby restricts them from rising above prejudice, myth, and historical legacies that are holding them back (Sharif). The way for him to get there would be from the communicator, his father, and taking the experiences that are being shared with him to learn from them. The value would be a lot closer and stronger with this audiencecompared to the audience of everyone else because of the emotional bond shared between the two. As for the broader audience, the closeness would vary depending on their stance on manhood and their life experiences. Republicans were promising a return to the settled country we once were, and this eventually led to the election of Warren G. Harding, the first Republican president in the decade. One of his first acts as president was allowing people to walk on the White House garden, reassuring the citizens that their government was returning to them after a time of hardship. During his campaign, Harding called for normalcy , a consistent period of peace and quiet, something that appealed to Americans after the time of relentless strain. Despite the scandals, President Harding was successful during his term, as he delivered to the public what he had promised, a return to normalcy and revival, by lowing income taxfor the rich, passing many tariffs, and initiating the Washington Naval Conference. Harding listened to the demands of the rich citizens, in terms of taxes. Catholicism was a major influence in all aspects of Spanish life at that time, ranging from music to art and daily living. Being a 16th century composer, TomГЎs Luis De Victoria was greatly influenced by the Catholic Church. Most, if not all of his music consisted of sacred pieces (Ferris). He was a Spanish polyphonic composer whose specialty was in motets. Not only was he one of the greatest composers and musicians of his time, he was also a scholar, a mystic, and a priest. The nation of Cambodia was in a near decade civil war between the Communist (Khmer Rouge) and the monarchy and then the Khmer Republic. The Khmer Rouge won the civil war and controlled all of Cambodia from 1975 to 1979. During this time, they committed horrific crimes against their own people. This genocidal regime was one of the worst events in the later years of the 1900s, and it is not well talked about in schools. The Khmer Rougemovement started back in the 1940s when Cambodiawas fighting for freedom from the French government. Over the years, the Northern Vietnamese influenced much of the group s practices and beliefs. They gained so much members during the Lon Nol era because many Cambodian people lost family from the American bombings (whom Lon Nol was allied with). Through fear and threats, the Khmer Rouge scared the people into moving into the countryside. They abolished all things that have to do with capitalism. They brainwashed people into starving the population, torturing the accused , and murdering any who oppose the Khmer Rouge way of life and leadership. This led to widespread poverty of Cambodia, and the people learned to love and respect everyone because of the hate shown to them during this horrific event. Many, til this day, still do not share their stories of what happened during this time because they are scared to be reminded of what was committed against them. When patients present themselves in our treatment room, it is our responsibility to make sure we do not leave anything unexamined. We are professionals in the practice of identifying, preventing, and treating oral diseases. We do this by completing thorough extraoral and intraoral exams and being conscious of what to look for. One particular exam that we do is an oral cancerexam. As dental hygienists we are at the forefront in identifying this disease. In an article written by Nancy Burkhart, a coauthor of General and Oral Pathology for the Dental Hygienist, she states, It is known that oral cancer is more likely to be detected in an early stage in the dental office than those found at a physician s office, which tend to be at a later stage. (Burkhart, 2014) This may be because dental hygienists focus more on the oral tissues than physicians do; or the fact that patients go to a doctor when it is already at advanced stages. It is imperative that we as dental hygienists know the signs and symptoms of oral cancer, as well as the risk factors involved in developing the disease and how it can be prevented. While it is important as a dental hygienist to identify oral diseases, it is more important to educate our patients on how they can avoid any potential abnormalities from becoming severe problems, ... • 44. Race Reflection Throughout my life, I believed that everyone is equal. Since America is known as the perfect nation of freedom, growing up I thought that every person gets a fair chance to pursue whatever he/she would like. It was not until the Trayvon Martin travesty that I had an epiphany; we, as African American, are not equal to other citizens of this nation. No, it was much more beyond that; black people were considered subpar to the superior white citizens of our so called perfect country. Once I found this out, I researched more information because the situation we are currently in is one we must know more about if we want to move forward. Joining the Black Lives Matter group through social media truly educated me more about the race problem our nation is in. The police brutality, the constant way the media portrays black people, redlining and gentrification, etcetera, was an eyeopening experience for me. However, my true shock was watching a documentary on Netflix, titled The 13th. It was a documentary explaining mass incarceration within the United Statesand A.L.E.C. becoming exposed for their ways. Before that documentary, I was aware of the mass incarceration dilemma, but I never fully grasped the severity of the situation. It was at that moment after watching the documentary, The 13th, the weight of this issue sank in, allowing me to understand the role our own government played in this and became my introduction on mass incarceration and its hold on the black ... • 45. An Analysis Of Frankenstein And The Modern Prometheus By... An analysis of Frankenstein; or, the modern Prometheus by Mary Shelly The title of the book, Frankenstein; or, the modern Prometheus is a reference to the story about Prometheus in Greek mythology. Prometheus was a titan who sided with the other titans to join the Greek gods in their war against the titans. Since I have not read that story, I do not know much else about what happened but I assume that ShellyВґs novel will be somewhat similar in the sense that someone will side with his friends and join the enemy. The title itself is fairly long. That is probably the reason that it is more known as just Frankenstein. The whole title is certainly interesting. The book is so famous that everyone knows about it and I would probably have read it eventually anyway just because of that. But the extended title made it even more interesting. Greek mythology is usually pretty interesting and that title implies that Mary Shelly wrote her own version of the story. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 46. Game of Thrones Essay The Game of Thrones by George R.R. Martin A Game of Thrones is set in the Seven Kingdoms of Westeros, a land reminiscent of medieval Europe. Fifteen years prior to the novel, the Seven Kingdoms were torn apart by a civil war, known as the War of the Usurper. Prince Rhaega Targaryen kidnapped Lyanna Stark angering her family and of her fiancГ©, Lord Robert Baratheon. The Mad King, Aerys II Targaryen had Lyanna father and brother executed when they demanded her safe return. Her second brother, Eddard, joined his boyhood friend Robert Baratheon and Jon Arryn in declaring war against the ruling Targaryen dynasty. The civil war ended when Prince Rhaegar was killed in battle by Robert Baratheon. The wealthiest family around The Lannisters... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Each perspective is held within a chapter which, when the characters move away from each other, allows the author to leave minor cliff hangers at the end of each chapter. While six of the characters from this first book are from the same family, the perspective is shifted around in preceding books. Death is common is this book and it s was one of the best things about it because it played well to the realism of the time that is depicted. Main characters are not safe like in other novels I have read and this made for very exciting reading. Self preservation is often the cause for character splits and confrontations, and by the end of the book characters you assumed you would be attached too for some time are left headless and gutless or simply gone. The novel, A Game of Thrones, begins with an encounter with supernatural beings; this may give a false impression as to what will come. As the story begins to unfold, the theme moves strongly into the area of political intrigue and this forthcoming war that will happen as a result. The fantasy element, while always there plays only a minor role in the majority of the rest of the book. A Game of Thrones in not your usual fare, it is hard hitting and bad things do happen to the good people. Two families take centre stage in a battle for the Throne the Starks and the Lannisters. • 47. Recommendations For Prevention And Mitigation Recommendations for Prevention/Mitigation Many ports do not have cyber response plans contained within broader risk plans (Kramek). All of the ports studied by Kramek had a dedicated security officer and a dedicated IT staff, but the security officers focus usually remained on traditional physical security threats, and IT was a separate and distinct department from security (Kramek). Kramek states, cyber security threats were not part of the security officer s response portfolio . Most security officers thought that their IT staff would notify them in some form or fashion if a cyber incident threatened port operations (Kramek). However, when during the response this notification to the security officers would be made is unclear given the lack of written response plans (Kramek). Ports need their IT department to be continually communicating with their security department. This would keep all the staff in the loop on current difficulties and security impairments and allow staff to find a cyber incident before it becomes too bad. Ports need to make sure that they have thorough written response plans in the case of a cyber security incident and that all IT and security staff that will be involved are ready to execute the plan if needed. These plans need to take into account that many industrial control systems are dependent, like many systems at ports and marine terminals, and run off computer networks (Sain). As stated by Bethann Rooney, manager of security for the Port ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 49. Descriptive Essay Roommate I went back into my dorm room. I sat my things down on the kitchen table and turned to the fridge, opening to get a drink of water as I was literally dying of thirst. Are you my roommate? I jumped and quickly turned around. My roommate s appearance that I just met now, has a light brown bob cut, rounded glasses with grey eyes, wearing a casual navy blue dress with a red leather belt. She stood near the table with her boxes and bags and I gave her a calm look, with a gentle smile. Oh yes, my name s Elaine. Nice to meet you, and you are? I m Kira. Sorry I came here a bit late, traffic. She gave a little laugh and I accepted it. We began to sit down on the kitchen table and got to know each other as we kept talking, it seemed to be that she is also new, in my classes, and we could somehow relate with each other on our likes, dislikes, choices, and other little things. Kira is one of those people who is an introvert at first, but when you get to talk to her more, she seems to be more easygoing and very kind and friendly. Hmm, what to do, what to do. I say as I roam around in my small room after saying our goodnights to each other after our time talking. I decided to lay on the queen sized bed, with my choice of own sheets that are pink polka dots with a grey background. My walls are a beige colour as everything else were to be only filled with other colours, mixed with plain such as brown and black. Elaine, Elaine, Elaine, where are you.. I woke up frightenedly, ... • 50. The Work In Potential Of Imperfections By Melissa Cunningham Introduction The discreet, intimate object of the ceramic tea bowl, by itself, is an empty vessel ready to be filled. Metaphorically speaking, this is similar to the human experience our lives begin as empty vessels, and as we encounter each experience in our lives, our vessels become filled with who we are and who we will become. The teabowls in Potential of Imperfections trace beautiful imperfections, frozen moments, and fragmented experiences. These experiences are direct references to trauma, decay, and disease and are connections between fragility, imperfection, intimacy, and the body manifested into palpable, corporeal form. Using the common, yet intimate object of the ceramic tea bowl as a stand in for the body, traces of beautiful imperfections such as the distortion through firing, frozen moments as seen in the throwing marks, and fragmented experiences such as the cracks that have been repaired are revealed. How does displaying a large collection of tea bowls differ from using just one? Does this evoke a sense of community or the diversity of experience? The work in Potential of Imperfections by Melissa Cunningham begs to answer these questions through connections to history, present forms in the processes, and contemporary art and thought surrounding this installation as well as her body of work.... • 52. The Road Not Taken Metaphors Decision making is a common component in everyday life. When a person makes a decision, they consider their options, reach a resolution, then commit to them. But as time passes, there are those who regret their choice and wish to go back to change their decision, while some people are satisfied with their chosen path. In Robert Frost s poem The RoadNot Taken , the author describes a decision making process between traveling down one road or the other. Throughout the poem, Frost uses several poetic devices, including metaphor and enjambment, to help bring his theme across: it s important to make the best possible decision because it can only be made once, in a way that encourages readers to think before they act. Yellow is the color of optimism and caution, which is, generally speaking, what many people think of life. In addition, the two roads diverged portrays the opportunities life gives a person. Considering how he only has one chance to select a road, the narrator must be careful and make the best decision. Not to mention, the poem takes place in nature, which is a metaphor that represents how the struggle between great options are natural and inevitable, just like nature. Because it s natural, one cannot go against nature s force and undo their decision, like the weather undoing the rain, which is impossible. Through metaphors, Frost s comparison between the woods and life opportunities makes the audience comprehend the bigger picture and convey that it would be best to make the optimal decision and not have to regret it ... • 54. Phobias And Its Effects On Phobias A phobia is a phenomenon where an organism has a distinct fear of a particular event or object. Phobias can not only be a biological instinct but rather a conditioned emotional response as well. Though, there has been some argument on what causes phobia it is generally accepted that phobias both stem from biological input and environmental experiences. The first reference to phobias was done by Hippocrates, who wrote about one of his patients having an extreme fearover something that others would deem to be silly. Around the 1890 s phobias were described as a distinct mental condition by Freud and his researchers. Freud the creator of psychoanalysis stated that phobias were simply conflicts within oneself. Thus, to get rid of their phobiathey would have to overcome a part of himself. However, not everyone was willing to agree with Freud, things like behaviorism for example, created a system known as conditioning and stimulus generalization to show that fear is something created through particular behaviors with the use of avoidance. However, despite the conflicting nonconscious/behavioral argument there is also a biological explanation to phobias. When someone notices something that could possibly be a threat there are two types of pathways that are used to decipher the situation/object. The first being thalamo cortico amygdala pathway.
