is the outcome of the human interaction over long distances for the last so many
years. Globalisation is a process of international arising from the interchange of the
world views and the other aspects of culture. Globalisation has its impact on our

Sweatshops Is Bad
Out of Bad Comes Good
A sweatshop is a factory where workers receive low wages while being forced to
work in poor environments. In general, these workshops produce an abundant
amount of the clothing that we wear everyday. However, few acknowledge the act
of sweatshop labor, since it is rarely shown to the public eye. Ironically, many
popular fashion brands that we buy from all recieve clothes that are made in
sweatshops. While sweatshop workers are treated unfairly in the workplace, fast
fashion provides them with jobs and it provides us with the clothing that we
constantly demand for. To understand the topic of sweatshop labor, we must
recognize the effects of this controversial working system.
First, we have to consider the conditions that
Public Radio Has Maintained A Legacy
For decades, National Public Radio has maintained a legacy as a successful
worldwide news organization. However, the news produced tends to be consumed
mainly by an older audience. It has a reputation among millennials as one of the less
entertaining news outlets. It is essential for news to be exciting in order to capture
the attention of this millennial audience, and NPR tends to lack the excitement value
it needs to fully reach this massive demographic. In order for the station to better
attract and maintain millennial readers, viewers and listeners, the organization needs
to cater to their lifestyle habits and preferences. In a constantly changing and
developing world, NPR needs to be ahead of the game in technological advancements.

Therefore, the personality of its journalism concludes news from reputable
independent sources such as American Public Media, Public Radio International and
Public Radio Exchange. NPR states that it is proud of the audience that it has
obtained, which is evident in statistics regarding audience demographics.
In addition to audience and personality of the station, as their organization has
grown, NPR has evolved to keep up with new digital forms of reporting. NPR
launched the NPR News app in August 2009 and it shortly became one of the top
free apps on both iPhone and Android marketplaces. NPR Politics Podcast is
currently the tenth the most popular iTunes podcasts in the United States. NPR
also launched the NPR Music app in November 2007, which presents free online
music programming. Music is selected by editorial choice to create a new musical
experience for listeners. The app offers live concert webcasts, reviews, music lists,
news, studio sessions and interviews. NPR.org was also revamped in the summer of
2009 in order to bridge the on air and online experiences. These changes are steps in
the right direction for the organization, however, they would still benefit from further
changes in order to attract a millennial audience.
Since the inception of the Internet, NPR has expanded as it has moved toward online
outlets such as websites and podcasts, rather than solely radio broadcasting. This has
been a positive
Significance Of The Second Seminole War
In order to understand the significance of the Second Seminole War, one must first
examine the First Seminole War. Frustrated with Seminole protection of runaway
slaves, Andrew Jackson and more than three thousand men entered northern Florida
in 1816 and began to decimate Seminole populations. Despite most of these
campaigns being unsanctioned by the United Statesgovernment and protested by the
British and the Spanish, Jackson was received as a war hero throughout the nation.
The Adam Onis Treaty of 1819 officially transfesrred ownership of Floridafrom Spain
to the United States (a major political victory for the United States at the time), and
the deportation of the Seminoles out of the newly acquired land became of the
utmost importance in 1821.
After tensions between indigenous tribes and white settlers intensified, the United
States government approached the Seminoles in an attempt to begin the deportation
process. The first course of action was to not only quell the conflicts between the
two parties in Florida, but to begin to encroach on the Seminole land and force them
into reservations. This would make it all the easier when it came time to begin
official removal of the Seminoles.
The Treaty of Moultrie Creek in 1823 stipulated that the Seminoles would surrender
any land claims within Florida in exchange for official protection by the United
States, monetary funding, and a large reservation located in central Florida. The
location was designated far enough inland
Keystone Species
Some people underestimate the impacts on us and the world of one species. Of
today 905 species have gone extinct and 332 have gone extinct because of humans,
making us responsible for over a third of all known extinctions. Furthermore there
are 41,415 species endangered and there are multiple reasons why we should be
trying to protect them. As of today many have acted up to this problem, there are
multiple organizations that protect and conserve wild life and some on one species
directly. As said earlier 41, 415 species are nearing or on the verge of existence,
practically speaking trying to save everyone one of them is impossible. We need to
be able to put endangered keystone species as our highest priority rather than putting
our efforts into species with mainly... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A keystone species is a plant or animal that plays a unique and crucial role in the
way an ecosystem functions. Without keystone species, the ecosystem would be
dramatically different or cease to exist altogether National Geographic. A keystone
species absence can cause a huge domino effect as they can affect feeding patterns
and shelter. The sea otter is a good example of a keystone species. These mammals,
found in the North West pacific, feed on sea urchins, controlling their population.
If the otters didn t eat the urchins, the urchins would eat up the kelp. Kelp, or giant
seaweed, is a major source of food and shelter for the ecosystem. Some species of
crabs, snails, and geese depend on kelp for food. Many types of fish use the huge
kelp forests to hide from predators. Without sea otters to control the urchin
population, the entire ecosystem would collapse. Sea otters are just one almost any

Symbolism Of Ghost In Hamlet
A ghost appears before Hamlet and speaks of cruel, sinful acts. The ghost that
speaks to Hamlet is his very own father, the King. How he dies causes him anger
and sadness at this betrayal. He was betrayed by none other than his own brother.
With Hamlet s father gone, the throne and crown await a new owner and Hamlets
uncle takes no time in making them his. The ghostspeaks the truth to his son Hamlet,
who will now be his hands for justice. When the ghost is speaking of his murder, he
keys in on his murderer and his weapon of choice. He states that he was Sleeping

venom. The word leperous is so horrific; leperous essentially means skin that tears
away with ease. If a poison this potent can be created and used against a family
member, well that leaves a terrifying picture. That must have been what
Shakespeare was going for; he wanted the action to seem so evil, therefore, he
creates a poison that tears away at the skin like acid. Hamlet s father also said that
once it entered his ear it acted like quicksilver as it ...courses through the natural
gates and alleys of the body... (25 26). How quicksilver acts is beyond most
common knowledge, but it would be best to think it acts like its name suggests,
quickly. It may thicken the blood so that it cannot circulate through the body with
ease. Thus, crippling the poor, unsuspecting king instantly along with the power to

Ancient Greek Science and Astronomy
The Ancient Greek culture has had such an impact on the world that no matter where
you look you re sure to find something Greek about it. Out of all the areas that the
Greek culture is famous for there are two that tend to exert themselves into our own
culture even today. That would be their Science and

they would have a mountain of books to sift through. There seem to be so many
individuals who have contributed towards the great scientific and astronomic
revelations that the list of names seems to go on and on. Many of the theories that

One example of Pythagoras s feelings of personality towards numbers was the
number Ten (10). He insisted it was quot;the very best quot; number because it
contained the first four integers one, two, three, and four [1 + 2 + 3
+ 4 = 10]. When written in dot notation these numbers formed a perfect triangle.
Taken directly from Thomas Heath who was a civil servant and also one of the
leading world experts on the history of mathematics is a list of theorems attributed
to Pythagoras and his followers: (i) The sum of the angles of a triangle is equal to
two right angles. Also the Pythagoreans knew the generalization, which states that a
polygon with n sides has sum of interior angles 2n 4 right angles and sum of exterior
angles equal to four right angles. (ii) The theorem of Pythagoras
for a right angled triangle the square on the hypotenuse is equal to the sum of the
squares on the other two sides. We should note here that to Pythagoras the square on
the hypotenuse would certainly not be thought of as a number multiplied by itself,
but rather as a geometrical square constructed on the side. To say that the sum of two
squares is equal to a third square meant that the two squares could be cut up and
reassembled to form a square identical to the third square.
(iii) Constructing figures of a given area and geometrical algebra. For example they
solved equations such as a (a x) = x2 by geometrical means. (iv) The
Kiss Me Kate Play Analysis
March of 2017 brought snow, rain showers, and a great musical to Hillsdale
College s campus. This semester, the Hillsdale College theatre department
performed a magnificent rendition of the classic 1950 s play, Kiss Me Kate.
Thanks to my core class s requirements, I was blessed with the golden opportunity
to see a marvelous musical that brought me much joy. What is interesting about
Kiss Me Kate is that is a very complex play. In fact, there are two striking aspects of
the play that stand out. First, the play can be described as a play within a play.
Indeed, Kiss Me Kate is both a story about struggling actors putting on a show with
the threat of Chicago eques gangsters looming over their performance and a rendition
of one of William Shakespeares... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Many critics, cynics, and general attention seekers have attempted to claim that Kiss
Me Kate is an endorsement of domestic violence, spousal abuse, and shoddy morals.
Before attending the performance, I was told by a close female friend that Kiss
Me Kate was notably anti woman. After watching the performance, I have to say
that her comment was most undoubtedly fake news. Those concerned with such
elements should be delighted to hear that those naughty parts aren t so naughty
nor are they the more critical aspects of the play. Also, one must realize that even
though we are leaving in 2017, the play was popular in the 1950 s and was based
off of a really old Shakespearian play. Naturally then, the behaviors exhibited by the
characters might irk us. The characters represent ideals and beliefs from an age
different than ours. Regardless of the morality presented, this difference in periods
will lead to discomfort and confusion as, news flash, things change over
How To Take Care of A Dog
How To Take Care of A Dog Taking care of dogs have many steps just like humans
do. All dogs need things, such as food and a collar. They need toys to play with and
to chew on. Dogs have to go to the vet for almost the same reasons why humans go
to the doctor. All dogs have to be trained like humans have to be taught. Every dog
needs companionship. There are many different breeds of dogs, but they are all
taken care of basically the same. When an owner gets a dog, they have to buy the
things the dog needs. Dogs need food so he/she can eat and bowls for the food and
water to go in. The dog also needs a collar, leash, and dog tags or get the dog
microchipped. The dog tags tell the animals name, where the animal lives, and the
owners name and number. When they get the dog tags, they have to put them on
the collar. A microchip goes under the skin between their shoulder baldes. If he/she
gets lost or runs away and somebody finds the animal, they can locate the owner. A
few other things a dog needs are dog shampoo, a dog brush, and toys. All dogs
need to be groomed whether they do it or take him/her to get groomed. Toys are
things the dog can play with. The toys also help him/her to not chew on the furniture
or shoes. Big dog bones work better. However, that is just the beginning. The owner
has to find the best local veterinarian clinic to take their anmial to. In order for the vet
to see the dog, they have to make an appointment. When

March 1533 the Statute in restraint of appeals is passed. This is considered as many

In 1534 the act of supremacy makes Henry the supreme head of the church of

Claudio Monteverdi vs. Domenico Scarlatti Essay
A comparison of two major Baroque composers: Claudio Monteverdi and Domenico
Scarlatti The purpose of this paper is to analyze two psalms by Claudio Giovanni
Antonio Monteverdi (1567 1643) and Giovanni Domenico Scarlatti (1685 1757) and
compare and contrast the two pieces to find out how music changed throughout the
Baroque period.
While historians grouped music of the Baroque period together based on certain
characteristics, the music did not remain the same throughout the period, as it would
not for any other musical time period. Composers from different points in the
Baroque period were chosen, but the things the two composers had in common were
the country of residence and their nationality. Special care was taken to chose

There is octave doubling in the bass, and the fifth occurs often since it was
considered to be perfect or somehow godly. What makes this psalm different from
Scarlatti s other psalms is that it is the only psalm that exhibits an organized
concerto style. This psalm is also written in Latin, and has no indicated dynamics. It
begins in D major, and switches to A and E major, and b and a minor throughout the
setting, and ends back on D major. The piece does have some ornamentation,
consisting of argued trills. The argument comes from odd markings on the original
manuscript. Some people feel that the markings were just hastily drawn trills, while
others feel they may actually be mordants. In the newest transcription, they have all
been transcribed as trills. The main reason for the lack of ornamentation put into the
music is an attempt to make the music less frilly. In the Baroque era this tooking
away from the sacred message it was supposed to send.
While both pieces are a part of each composer s library of sacred music, they are in
some respects not very much alike and in others they are very similar. There are the
obvious things they have in common such as the fact that they are written in Latin.
That is not too surprising considering some churches still used Latin as the primary
language in their services, even though in the Baroque period many churches began
using the vernacular so the patrons would understand the services. Aside from that,
Monteverdi, being more
Power Of Familia
In this chapter, I will investigate the various meanings of familia. The theme of my
chosen vocabulary is the language of power and thus it is necessary to compare
the power of the magistrate or state official to that of parents in the home. The word
derives from the noun famulus which means servant or slave (LS 1879). I will be
contrasting the use of familia with that of domus as aspects of words connoting
power. Saller (1999: p.84) states that familia was never used to mean father, mother,
and children as in today s term familyas it referred, as we can see from its etymology,
to the slave staff of a house.

evidenced in the use of the adverb undique to suggest that he was in possession of
both many estates and a large number of retainers . The transitive verb coego is
useful as it indicates that these people had ties of loyalty to Orgetorix which
compelled them to be gathered together. It must be noted that the word retainers can
also be interpreted as the king s court, his households and estates, and all his
dependants. In this way, familia is used to indicate the king s possessions and
Women s Employment Rates During World War I
What? Women s employment rates increased sharply during WWI, which is from
23.6% to between 37.7% and 46.7%. These women workers were engaged into
jobs left by men who had enlisted in the war. Some new jobs were also created due
to the war, like munitions factories. This caused many women working in areas of
work that were normally belong to men. For example like the railway guards and
ticket collectors. Also, some female workers need to work with poisonous materials
without proper protection. However, their salaries were much lower than men for
doing the same work. When? This event happened during WWI, when majority of

Who or what are the sides? The key people involved are women especially married
women during the WWI. c) What was Canada s role? As a country that was
involved in WWI, the war had a significant effect on Canadian women. They have
actively participated in war, from nursing and munitions manufacturing during the
First World War. d) What were the results? Women received much less wages so
they began some of the earliest demands for equal pay. For example, a committee
was set up by the War Cabinet in 1917 to examine the question of women s wages.
There were accidents and women got killed or injured. Some women in munitions
factories were called canaries because they had to handle TNT (the chemical
compound trinitrotoluene) which caused their skin to turn yellow. Around 400
women died from overexposure to TNT during WWI. Women s employment rates
increased during WWI, from 23.6% in 1914 to between 37.7% and 46.7% in 1918.
The employment of married women increased sharply accounting for nearly 40% of
all women workers by 1918. Women s rights were advanced since they took their

Labelling Theory Of Drug Use
The notion of labelling theory was first created in the 1960s and gained popularity
towards the late 1960s and early 1970s. The term was first applied mentally ill in
1966 when Thomas Scheff published his article Being Mentally Ill. Labelling
theory explains a great importance in respect to drug use. Although labelling theory
does not fully explain why initial drug use occurs, it does detail the process by
which many people find themselves as socially deviant from others (Glen R.
Hanson, University of Utah Salt Lake City Utah Glen R Hanson, Peter J. Venturelli,
Annette E. Fleckenstein). The term deviance is used in a manner to describe an
absence of the patterns of behaviour expected in a society and not in a judgemental
way. Labelling theory

Playa del Carmen has a tropical climate with temperatures that range from warm to

The coolest time of year is typically between November and January, where daytime
temperatures are warm and comfortable, but the night air holds a chill. Though it can

accommodations and entertainment will definitely reflect this.
The real peak time to visit Playa del Carmen is between February and May when
the weather is about as perfect as it can get. The sea is calm and inviting and very
little rain. What rain there is helps the gorgeous and bright flowers to bloom,

My Reflection Of My Leadership As A Leader
There are many individual questions on this were scored lower than I would like,
but they are areas that I felt I excelled in on the other questions, It looks like I
scored higher in the Seek First to Understand and Synergize sections than in the
other areas, I feel this is because of constant thought of how ones actions can and
do affect others, Because of that I am sensitive to the feelings of others and seek to
not only understand them, but make sure they are not caused discomfort by me, I
feel this makes me a good leader because I can also lead others to being
accountable for their actions and natural consequences of those actions while
keeping their feelings and needs at hand, This is something that I have learned
over the years and am sure I still need to work on, As any leader I have strengths as
well as weaknesses, I feel one of my strengths is my willingness to listen to others,
I have always let other know that I am open to their suggestions, I make it clear
that another s idea might be a better way to do something, If the idea is good and
things can be changed then they should, I feel my willingness to not only listen, but
to hear what they say is why I feel this is one of my strengths, Typically people only
truly listen only 25 percent of time, The other 75 percent is spent without truly
listening to what a person is saying (McIntosh, 2008), Another of my strengths is that
I thrive in stressful situations, I can still get things done and do not buckle under
Analysis Of Mother Courage And Her Children
The norm refers to a state in which affairs are standard, typical, usual, expected and
unexceptional among others. In his book, the Steppenwolf, Hermann Hesse explores
some of the issues relating to deviation from the norm like how an individual is
affected. In addition, the play Mother Courage and her Children also presents various
matters relating to the norm, its significance, and how the environment is altered in
case of a deviation. Furthermore, Bertolt Brechtvividly examines how an individual
has a difficult time to adapt to the changes in the norm naturally. The paper will talk
abiut the significance of the norms in these two masterpieces, the effects of what is
considered normal to the characters, and what they lose or gain when they stray from
the norm.
Hermann Hesse uses Harry Haller as an example of a person who has an
intrapersonal conflict due to dissatisfaction with the normal life. He shows that
leading and conforming to normalcy proves hard for some people. We are taken
through the Steppenwolf treatise that records a man s multifaceted soul, which
Haller fails to understand (Hesse 15). He is encircled in a struggle that cannot be
solved and he is not satisfied with being either right or wrong. This fixed, the firm,
false and personally developed concept makes him blind to the other world that is
considered normal. He says How foolish it is to wear oneself out in vain longing for
warmth! Solitude is independence. (Hesse 33) to mean, there is comfort in
The Problem Solving Process Will Begin
When confronted with a problem, the question we should first begin asking
ourselves is What should I do? We will first need to examine the problem and
determine the steps needed to take in order to ensure the problem is solved
satisfactorily. This is where the problem solving process will begin. For this
assignment, I will be focusing on Scenario 1: You have worked at your company
for eleven (11) years. You have returned to college to earn a Bachelor s degree in
order to increase your chances for a promotion. You are nearly finished with your
degree, when a supervisor s position in a competing company becomes available in
another state. The start date is in two (2) weeks, during your final exam period for
your courses. The position offers a $15,000 per year salary increase, a car
allowance, and relocation expenses. Your former supervisor works for the
company and is recommending you for the position based on your outstanding job
performance; if you want the job, it s yours. All of the other supervisors at this
level in the company have Master s degrees, so you know that you would be
expected to earn your Bachelor s degree and continue on to a Master s degree. Your
present company offers tuition reimbursement, but the new company does not. (cite)
For this particular scenario, I have been tasked with making a decision on whether or
not I should change my job, an opportunity that will increase my salary; or stay in a
position that will allow me to further my educational
Billy The Kid Copland
Copland Billy The Kid
Copland s Billy The Kid features several similarities to the excerpt we studied from
Appalachian Spring. The simplicity of the piece represents the easiest to see of these
comparable aspects. Appalachian Spring does not contain much complex polyphony,
noticeably dissonant chords, or atonality. Instead, Copland creates a simple, pastoral
kind of music. Examples of this can be found throughout the piece, but the section
from 01:00 01:30 can be used as a representative sample. In fact, Copland wanted
this piece of Appalachian Spring to have a folksy air about it, and he achieves it by
the simplicity of his music.
Billy The Kid is also a fairly simple piece. Take the section from 4:40 5:00.

The Life of Isaac Newton
Throughout the span of Isaac Newton s life time, he accomplished, dreamed, and
achieved what others thought were impossible. He was a curious man, with a passion
to learn and discover the undiscovered. Newton uncovered scientific answers that lead
the way to influential discoveries in motion and mathematics, optics, and also
physics. He was not only an educated physicist and mathematician, but experienced
and established in his frame of study. To say Newton was just a scientist would be an
understatement, he was one of the great minds of the 17th century Scientific
Revolution (Source 3). Isaac Newtonwas born in Woolsthorpe, Lincolnshire, England
on January 4, 1643. He was born as a premature baby and no one expected him to
live. Newton s father passed away three months before he was born. When Sir
Newton was only three years old, his mother, Hannah Newton, abandon her son and

When Newton was twelve years old, his mother returned with three step children,

J Grunig And Hunt s Definition Of Public Relations
Public relations today is a complex profession practised by hundreds of thousands of
people around the world. Some public relations professionals are employed by a
single organization.
Others work for public relations firms that have many organizations as clients. Public
relations people work for businesses, government agencies, professional and trade
associations, nonprofit charities, schools and universities, hospitals, hotels, and many
more. They work for large and small organizations. Many public relations people
work entirely within their own country; others practice their profession on a global
basis.
Among the many competing definitions of public relations, J. Grunig and Hunt s is
the most widely cited definition of public relations: Public relations is the

It also lays down the foundation of the profession squarely within management, as
opposed to the competing approaches of journalism or the promotion based approach
of marketing and advertising that focuses primarily on consumers. The component
parts of Grunig and Hunt s famous definition of public relations are as follows:
Management: The body of knowledge on how best to coordinate the activities of an
enterprise to achieve effectiveness.
Communication: Not only sending a message to a receiver but also understanding the
messages of others through listening and dialogue.
Organization: Any group organized with a common purpose; in most cases, it is a
business, a corporation, a governmental agency, or a nonprofit group.
Publics: Any group(s) of people held together by a common interest. They differ
from audiences in that they often self organize and do not have to attune to
messages; publics differ from stakeholders in that they do not necessarily have a
financial stake tying them to specific goals
Essay On Nelson Rockefeller
The Rockefeller family is an extremely wealthy American dynasty with German
roots. The family members were heavily involved in the industrial, political, oil
and banking businesses of America that allowed them to amass one of the world s
greatest fortunes. Primarily, the family history starts with the brothers John D
Rockefeller Sr. and William Rockefeller who owned the standard oil company that
controlled nearly all oil flow in the US until 1911 when it was broken into
subsidiaries to end its monopoly. Nonetheless, the family continue to be involved in
the oil industry and profit from it. The brothers are considered to be responsible for

Due to Nelson Rockefeller s extensive knowledge on Latin America and experience

tour was aimed to observe the effect of the revolutions occurring across Latin

towards the relationship between the US and Latin America and work towards
promoting goodwill. However, Nelson was received by violence everywhere he

fourteen of seventeen Rockefeller owned supermarkets were bombed in a

he arrived to Venezuela students protests became so violent they led to military

Nelson from coming to Venezuela in fear of violent demonstrations. However, the
Venezuelan people viewed the decision as being initiated by the United States and it
spurred more anti American feelings. Therefore, Nelson Rockefeller s travels to Latin
America spurred violence between the people and the leaders of Latin America
creating more instability and fostering anti American
Symbolism In The Rocking Horse Winner
Fortune is the enemy of human morality. If not careful, a person who places
complete trust in luck can lose focus on the important things in life. This idea that
our lives are governed by an uncontrollable force consumes us in ways that most
people do not come to terms with. D.H. Lawrence uses compelling imagery in the
Rocking HorseWinner to create an insight of dark fortune. He accomplishes this
through the relationship of the mother and her children, the use of the rocking horse,
and the conflict of luckwithin Paul. Lawrence continually emphasizes the non
existent relationship between the mother and her children. He begins by telling us
that the children had been thrust upon her, and she could not love them . This sets
the tone for the rest of the story; a desire for good fortune makes the children seem
like underappreciated burdens. Several times the mother says things to the
children with bitterness in her voice as if they inconvenience her. Only the mother
and her children know of the loveless hard little place in the mother s heart. They
read it in each other s eyes . The simple act of leaving the apathy unspoken creates a
sense of despair for both parties. The mother fills this gap in their lives by
becoming obsessed with money and blaming all of their misery on bad luck. In turn,
the children follow her example and become consumed by this belief as well. The
desire is so great that the house came to be haunted by the unspoken phrase: there

candidate for the 2002 election for mayor of Newark, New Jersey, Cory Booker
and his opponent, Sharpe James. Street Fight mainly unveils the power of politics
and what holds power over politics itself. However, the video also reveals several
factors which influence and impact politics from the choices of real people on the
streets of Newark. Of these factors, the video focuses on the tactics in which each
candidate promotes themselves, their social background, and the authority they each
hold.
In order to earn votes, each candidate constantly promotes and persuades the citizens
that will vote for them. Cory Booker takes his campaign literally door to door of the

Street Fight shows how Cory Booker begins to establish his authority among the
people in Newark and how Sharpe James uses his authority as campaign strategies.
For example, Cory Booker takes to the streets and lives with the people he is
fighting for and talking one on one while playing fair and respecting those who
disagree with his views. On the other hand, Sharpe James used his power over the
police force to threaten homeowners, shop owners, and anyone associating with
Booker to reduce Booker s influence. For instance, Booker s signs were forcibly
taken down without permission, some shop owners had their businesses forcibly shut
down, and Sharpe James had been spreading lies and false rumours about Booker
further damaging and criticizing Booker s reputation. Politics then revolves around
power and authority (Wasserman 8). Such usage of these two aspects in the 2002
political campaign demonstrates how politics can be approached in different

The group embraced solidarity with such unions provided that their needs not just as
socialists but the Black feminists were met.
The Combahee River Collective also stresses on the relationship with their
subjugation and how it molded their identities. It is through the use of the identity
politics, especially their atypical experience, that they pursued the immediate freedom
for the Black women. Even though the group called for the liberation of the women
of color, the activists did not assume an exclusive standpoint, but instead a humble
ground for their group. The collective did not want pedestals, Queenwood and
lagging ten steps behind but rather to be accepted as human, just sensibly as humans

of the Black women, something they expressed in the statement black women are
inherently valuable.
The group voiced its concerns in a positive, yet proud, way. It celebrated one another

to show people around the world that their identity considerations and associations do

underwent is no more than an experience or even more significant compared to the

Slumdog Millionaire shows Jamal s slumdog childhood as an exciting adventure,
carefree, always finding ways to acquire food or money, and narrowly escaping

as hunger, illness and childhood deviance. Behind the Beautiful Forevers describes
numerous children s tragic death due to the pressures of their hardship and social
injustice. Sometimes leading them to unjust death on the road without clear

after he thought that he was going to be captured and tortured by police or killed

An Analysis Of BeyoncГ© s Song Formation
African American music artists tend to have to use their work to voice some of the
struggles their heritage has faced in the past. Artists like BeyoncГ© and J. Cole
have been known to release songs that evoke much emotion. BeyoncГ© in
particular released a highly controversial music video for her song Formation the
day before she was set to perform at the Super Bowl 50. Formation is a bold, five

history, but also consists of elements of BeyoncГ© s personal life. BeyoncГ© uses
controversial lyrics to verbally represent who she is and visual imagery to illustrate a

BeyoncГ© knows how to spark an argument, and what kind of black anthem would
Formation be if the black lives matter movement was not featured. In the video, a
scene flashes to a little boy dressed in a black hoodie. The black hoodie is most
definitely a nod to the shooting of Trayvon Martin, who was an African American
teenage boy who was shot by a cop. He claimed Martin, which was wearing a black
hoodie, looked suspicious. With that said, the boy in the video is freestyle dancing
without a care in the world. Across from the boy is a line of cops in typical
formation. At the end, the boy spreads his arms out and the cops put their hands up.
BeyoncГ© is making a suggestion as to the practice law enforcement should take.
Cops purpose are to protect and serve, but at times they deviate. Often times, it has
been reported that African Americans were shot after they surrendered. After the boy
puts his hands up, a wall with the words stop shooting us spray painted appears.
African Americans feel the need to literally beg for officers of law enforcement to
give them break and stop shooting them. The emotion those simple words evoke is
Noble Gases Research Paper
Noble Gas is located in far right column of periodic table and is known for having
full valence electron shell. Helium, Neon, Argon, Krypton, Xenon, and Radon are
known Noble gases in the periodic table. All of those elements are odorless,
colorless in standard condition. Ununoctium is the only synthetic element of
Noble Gases. The name Noble Gas came from the translation from German noun
Edelgas which implied that it is chemically very inert. Because Noble Gas
elements have 8 valence electron and stable without any formation of compound,
its first ionization energy is highest out of all the groups in periodic table. Noble
Gases are used in many occasions in the real life. For example Neon signs are used
in many electric signs. However despite many usages of Noble Gas in real life, it
has strongest first ionization energy because it has full S and P valence electron
shell which makes it hard to break the bond in order to make a chemical compound.
Because of such characteristics it was believed that Noble gases cannot form

complexities of being a teenager, dealing with related themes such as growing up,
loss of innocence, adolescent sexuality, loneliness, unrequited love. These
seemingly innocent themes however, develop a darker side, as they lead to the
suicides of the main characters Lux, Bonnie, Celia, Mary and Therese: the 5 Lisbon

level, only rarely coming into contact with them, and most of their evidence comes
from watching and admiring the girls from afar, or collecting as many small snatches
of them as they can ; admitting to looking through (the Lisbon s) order slips
(Eugenides 89), analyzing the contents of their lockers (Eugenides 142), and
watching them through binoculars (Eugenides 146) in order to glean some sort of
information about them. They desperate wish to understand them through these vain
methods , saying that We felt that if we kept looking hard enough we might begin to
understand what they were feeling and who they were. (Eugenides
Elephant Poaching
The complexity surrounding conservation is a theme that I found both important
and compelling. This topic came up during the Class within a Class on the Illegal
Wildlife Trade. One of the readings assigned was a New York Times article about
elephant poaching. After working at a charity focusing on wildlife preservation in
Africalast summer, I had become passionate about elephantconservation. I had
learned about the rapid decline of elephants along with the threat of poaching based
on the ivorytrade. Yet after completing the readings, I realized that the issue was
more complicated than I had previously appreciated. For example, I was unaware of
the complex geopolitical elements of the issue: the ivory demands of middle class

The severity of these political and economic factors often impacts the success of a
given convention s outcomes. We surveyed a variety of conservation treaties, from
the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species (CITES) to the
Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) to the Agreement on the Conservation
of Populations of European Bats (EUROBATS). Some of these, such as
EUROBATS, were more successful, with a smaller group of countries being able
to work in close cooperation through this treaty. Most European countries are
relatively politically and economically stable and have a network of NGOs that can
assist in conservation efforts. This contributed heavily to the success of
EUROBATS. Conversely, CITES is an agreement that spans the globe, requiring the
needs and interests of the global North and South be taken into account. As seen
with the elephant poaching case study, some countries lack the ability to enforce the
rules of CITES, even if they are a party to the convention. Without the cooperation of
these countries, the impact of CITES on wildlife conservation has been weakened.
The complexity surrounding conservation highlights the difficulties in creating an
effective conservation regime for a given species and the problems in designing a
treaty acceptable to all global States. Yet it also stands as a reminder of the necessity
of global cooperation for solving trans boundary environmental problems an
overarching theme of this course that is applicable to almost every issue we
Genoghhis Khan And The Legacy Of Genghis Khan
Genghis Khan was undoubtedly one of the most vicious and brutal leaders in world
history. However, the legacy of Khan is also one of cultural development, artistic
achievement, an elegant way of life and an entire continent united under the Pax
Mongolia. The famed leader and his successors created the largest empire ever to
exist, spanning across the entire Asian continent. An empire as such could not have
been created without strong leadership, stellar organizational skills and the most
resilient army ever known. Genghis Khanmay be well known for his brutality and
destructive cavalry however, Khan did good for his own people and earned the
Mongolians a reputation of glory. Genghis Khan was an emperor, who lead his
people in such a way that was accepted in the tenth century. Back then war was a
very reality, and if it involved massacres, then it was generally tolerated. However,
many people forget that Khan s rampage left such a path of destruction that he
irrevocably destroyed entire empires and populations in the interest of habitable
environments. In more recent times, people have pointed out that Joseph Stalin was
responsible for nearly twenty million deaths. This death toll would have made him
more brutal than the Nazis, who held a death total of seventeen million
people(White). Yet, Stalin cannot even compare to the brutality of the Mongols
under the leadership of Khan. Genghis Khan was responsible for the deaths of
roughly forty million people, and he was glad to
The Economic Growth And Development
Currently, the economic growth and development is improving the performance of
the New Zealanders that has over the past 30 years made them part of the global
market. This requires that Lush improve its performance in relation to
standardisation. This demands that it balances its character of its products to
maintain a local and international consumer appeal. This is important based on
evidence from firms selling luxuries in the Chinese market where maintaining brand
consistency has been core (Liu, et al., 2016, p. 360). As a corollary to this, Lush
should appreciate that consumers desire to experience an enjoy life that can be
compared to global levels in wellbeing. However, this should be done taking into
account that New Zealanders value truthfulness in promotion that is key in brand
identity. These should be underscored by strategies that improve brand knowledge
that is important in attracting consumers through a local and internationally balanced
appeal. Though not in the same industry, this has helped international universities
increase their student populations in foreign countries (Hemsley Brown, et al., 2016,
p. 3020).
Supply and Production
As earlier stated the role played by industrialisation in New Zealand is immerse. This
can help in improving the production of goods and services if Lush was to process
most of its products. Considering that, Lush prioritizes the production of its product
using labour that gives it an opportunity to explore the role of
Abnormal Behavior, A Term That Is Often Thrown Around
Without
Abnormal behavior, a term that is often thrown around without having the proper
knowledge of the actual definition. Abnormal behavior goes way beyond just acting
or behaving differently than what one might consider your average Joe . Abnormal
behavior is behavior that interferes with everyday living when one cannot function
with everyday tasks only then the behavior can be considered abnormal. Depressionis
an abnormal behavior being that it affects Persistent Depressive Disorder also known
as PDD or it s late name of Dysthymiais a chronic type state of depression in which

The feeling of being sad, angry and irritable are generally normal and subside
within a week or two but for some women it doesn t go away just that easy, for
some women the depression sticks and begins to negatively affect their everyday
life. The rate of successful suicides for males is higher because men tend to men
turn to a more violent side of coping they become frustrated, discouraged, irritable,
angry, and sometimes abusive. Some men even throw themselves into their work
to avoid talking about their depression with family or friends, or behave recklessly.
Most men don t seek help in any form or even talk about the challenging disorder
they are facing and an effect of that would be the depression getting worse,
absorbing them. There are some women that too allow their PDD to go untreated
and deal with it by just not talking about it. A sort of personal experience with PDD
is with a close relative of mine, who has been dealing with PDD for three years
now and it has greatly affected her. She described waking up everyday with a
heavy heart, she could not remember a day when she did not feel this way, the
feeling you get when you lose a close relative, that is the feeling she woke up with
each morning. For as long as she can remember each day she was sadden by the
fact that she had awaken once again and would have to live through yet another sad
and gloomy day yet she could not figure out why each day felt this way. Imagine

The Importance Of The Executive Branch
The Executive Branch is one of the three important branches that make up the United
States Federal Government. The president is the head of both this branch, and the
entire government. He/She has wide variety of powers and acts as America s
spokesperson. America s Presidents have shaped the Country s history drastically in
many different ways. Despite the Executive branch s highly prominent role in
government, it has faced much controversy. Patrick Henry, who was one of the
Founding Fathers, one said this after reading the constitution, Among other
deformities, it has an awful squinting; it squints toward monarchy, and does not this
raise indignation in the breast of every true American? Your president may easily
become king. (lexrex, Shall Liberty or Empire be Sought?) Although today the
president is not a king, both the president and the entire executive branch has grown
in power and strength since the late 1700s. When the founders created the
constitution they understood the importance as well as the risks of the executive
branch. They saw the many monarchies of European countries and the trials and
troubles caused by it. They saw the corruption of tyrant rulers and the effects it had on
the people. Not wanting the same to happen to the new country, they kept this in
mind and created the constitution so that no president could turn the government into
a tyranny. However, they also understood that the president and his members needed
some power to perform the job
Theraputic Properties of Terminalia Arjuna
IThe potential therapeutic properties of T. arjuna have been reported extensively in
traditional medicine system and have been evaluated by various in vitro and
preclinical studies with the aim of characterising various pharmacological activities
(Table 2). Some studies have reported that the saponin glycosides content of T. arjuna
might be responsible for the inotropic effects, while the flavonoids provide free
antioxidantactivity as well as vascular strengthening, conforming the pleiotropic
actions of T. arjuna (Figure 3). Although, voluminous data is available from the
various preclinical experiments on T. arjuna, but a unifying hypothesis that accounts
for its biological activity and targets are still unidentified and under discussion.
6.1: Anti Oxidant, Anti Inflammatory Immuno modulatory actions: Till date only few
studies have reported the anti inflammatory actions of T. arjuna on pro inflammatory
cytokines and chemokines. Recently, an in vitro study reported that both alcoholic
and aqueous bark extracts of TA diminished the human monocytic (THP 1) and
aortic endothelial cell stimulation and decreased the levels of inflammatory markers
such as TNF О± induced gene transcripts of cell surface adhesion molecules
(VCAM 1, ICAM 1, E selectin) and chemokines (MCP 1 and IL 8) showing the
promising anti inflammatory property of TA (Kokkiripati et al., 2013). Similarly, an
in vitro study carried out by our group demonstrated that bark extract of TA,

Thesis Statement On The Gettysburg Address
The tone and stage are set with the background of the great battle field of Gettysburg
s. Our nation is involved in a great civil war between its brothers with two different
views and divisions. President Lincoln has the daunting task as the President of the
United States to bring healing to this torn country; to remind the country that it was
only 87 years earlier that this young country started on its great experiment. The
thesis statement answers the question and reminds the audience that all men are
created equal and that the basis on which our country was founded on was liberty and
equality. President Lincoln was trying to tie together the key principles of our
founding fathers with freedom, equality, and democracy which are embodied... Show

Policy Introduction And Identification Of The Military...
Policy Introduction and Identification
In January of 2013, the Department of Defense set aside the 1994 Direct Ground
Combat Definition and Assignment Rule (Carter, 2015). This takes all restrictions off
women allowing all who meet the qualifications to hold a combat role in the military.
The Armed Forces have opened over 110,000 positions to women and have set their
standards. Anyone, who can meet operationally relevant and gender neutral
standards, regardless of gender, should have the opportunity to serve in any position
(Carter, 2015). The Military Services and United States Special Operations
Command (USSOCOM) were directed to implement this new change in policy by

From the beginning of American history men have fought our battles, but little do
people know women have always been in our nations battles. During the
Revolutionary War women follow their husbands to war, many serve in camps as
cooks and nurses but had to obtain permission from the commanding officer if they
proved themselves helpful (U.S. ARMY, 2017). From 1782 to 1783 Deborah
Sampson served over a year in General Washington s army disguising herself as a
man, until she was wounded; reveling her true gender and being honorably
discharged. Skipping ahead to 1861 the America Civil War, women would serve as
administrators of hospitals as well as cooks and nurses in both the Union and
Confederate hospitals. From 1917 to 1918 World War I, women were allowed to join
the military.
Throughout the last 2 years of World War 1 over 33,000 women served as nurses
and support staff officially in the armed forces and more than 400 nurses die or are
wounded in the line of duty.
Moving forward to World War II 1941 1945, more than 400,000 women serve at
home and abroad as mechanics, nurses, ambulance drivers, pilots, and other non
combat roles. Eight eight women were captured as POW s (prisoners of war). In
1984 Congress passed the Women s Armed Services Integration Act allowing women
permanent military status and entitled to veteran s benefits. In 1950 1953 over
50,000 women served at home and abroad during the

By doing this assignment, I learnt to analyse, evaluate, and apply business theories
and concepts to business decision making. Meanwhile, I also learn to effectively
communicate information and arguments mainly in written form.
I have chosen three companies that had undergone managerial decision. They are

Drug Use And Its Effects On Society
Despite the issues regarding the scientific studies, evidence has drawn positive
links suggesting people who use drugs are more likely to engage in criminal activity
than non users if simply because they are breaking the law to obtain the substance of
use. Research does support this contention as people who are arrested for various
crimes test positive to be under the influence of a drug at the time they committed
their offense. However, the evidence remains elusive as to whether the drug use led
to the crimeor the crime was separate from the drug use and related needs (i.e., money
to buy drugs, territorial wars, etc.). Because of inconsistent data and definitions in
reporting, statistical evidence is not empirical enough to draw hard conclusions
regarding the relationship between drugs, including alcohol, and crime, or to quantify
how much of that crime begins with the innocent seeming lighting up of a marijuana
cigarette. In addition, when more than one drug is present, it is difficult to assess
which of the two or more might have induced or inspired the criminal behavior, if
any. The association between alcohol and violence illustrated through various studies
makes it clear that correlations between drug use and crime are greater complicated
through the presence of other dynamics such as socio demographic and personality
characteristics.
Given these cautions regarding the research and studies then, it is interesting to note
that studies limited to marijuana only do not

  • 7. Significance Of The Second Seminole War In order to understand the significance of the Second Seminole War, one must first examine the First Seminole War. Frustrated with Seminole protection of runaway slaves, Andrew Jackson and more than three thousand men entered northern Florida in 1816 and began to decimate Seminole populations. Despite most of these campaigns being unsanctioned by the United Statesgovernment and protested by the British and the Spanish, Jackson was received as a war hero throughout the nation. The Adam Onis Treaty of 1819 officially transfesrred ownership of Floridafrom Spain to the United States (a major political victory for the United States at the time), and the deportation of the Seminoles out of the newly acquired land became of the utmost importance in 1821. After tensions between indigenous tribes and white settlers intensified, the United States government approached the Seminoles in an attempt to begin the deportation process. The first course of action was to not only quell the conflicts between the two parties in Florida, but to begin to encroach on the Seminole land and force them into reservations. This would make it all the easier when it came time to begin official removal of the Seminoles. The Treaty of Moultrie Creek in 1823 stipulated that the Seminoles would surrender any land claims within Florida in exchange for official protection by the United States, monetary funding, and a large reservation located in central Florida. The location was designated far enough inland

A keystone species is a plant or animal that plays a unique and crucial role in the way an ecosystem functions. Without keystone species, the ecosystem would be dramatically different or cease to exist altogether National Geographic. A keystone species absence can cause a huge domino effect as they can affect feeding patterns and shelter. The sea otter is a good example of a keystone species. These mammals, found in the North West pacific, feed on sea urchins, controlling their population. If the otters didn t eat the urchins, the urchins would eat up the kelp. Kelp, or giant seaweed, is a major source of food and shelter for the ecosystem. Some species of crabs, snails, and geese depend on kelp for food. Many types of fish use the huge kelp forests to hide from predators. Without sea otters to control the urchin population, the entire ecosystem would collapse. One example of Pythagoras s feelings of personality towards numbers was the number Ten (10). He insisted it was quot;the very best quot; number because it contained the first four integers one, two, three, and four [1 + 2 + 3 + 4 = 10]. When written in dot notation these numbers formed a perfect triangle. Taken directly from Thomas Heath who was a civil servant and also one of the leading world experts on the history of mathematics is a list of theorems attributed to Pythagoras and his followers: (i) The sum of the angles of a triangle is equal to two right angles. Also the Pythagoreans knew the generalization, which states that a polygon with n sides has sum of interior angles 2n 4 right angles and sum of exterior angles equal to four right angles. (ii) The theorem of Pythagoras for a right angled triangle the square on the hypotenuse is equal to the sum of the squares on the other two sides. We should note here that to Pythagoras the square on the hypotenuse would certainly not be thought of as a number multiplied by itself, but rather as a geometrical square constructed on the side. To say that the sum of two squares is equal to a third square meant that the two squares could be cut up and reassembled to form a square identical to the third square. This semester, the Hillsdale College theatre department performed a magnificent rendition of the classic 1950 s play, Kiss Me Kate. Thanks to my core class s requirements, I was blessed with the golden opportunity to see a marvelous musical that brought me much joy. What is interesting about Kiss Me Kate is that is a very complex play. In fact, there are two striking aspects of the play that stand out. First, the play can be described as a play within a play. Indeed, Kiss Me Kate is both a story about struggling actors putting on a show with the threat of Chicago eques gangsters looming over their performance and a rendition of one of William Shakespeares... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Many critics, cynics, and general attention seekers have attempted to claim that Kiss Me Kate is an endorsement of domestic violence, spousal abuse, and shoddy morals. Before attending the performance, I was told by a close female friend that Kiss Me Kate was notably anti woman. After watching the performance, I have to say that her comment was most undoubtedly fake news. Those concerned with such elements should be delighted to hear that those naughty parts aren t so naughty nor are they the more critical aspects of the play. Also, one must realize that even though we are leaving in 2017, the play was popular in the 1950 s and was based off of a really old Shakespearian play. Naturally then, the behaviors exhibited by the characters might irk us. The characters represent ideals and beliefs from an age different than ours. Regardless of the morality presented, this difference in periods will lead to discomfort and confusion as, news flash, things change over
  • 12. How To Take Care of A Dog How To Take Care of A Dog Taking care of dogs have many steps just like humans do. All dogs need things, such as food and a collar. They need toys to play with and to chew on. Dogs have to go to the vet for almost the same reasons why humans go to the doctor. All dogs have to be trained like humans have to be taught. Every dog needs companionship. There are many different breeds of dogs, but they are all taken care of basically the same. When an owner gets a dog, they have to buy the things the dog needs. Dogs need food so he/she can eat and bowls for the food and water to go in. The dog also needs a collar, leash, and dog tags or get the dog microchipped. The dog tags tell the animals name, where the animal lives, and the owners name and number. When they get the dog tags, they have to put them on the collar. A microchip goes under the skin between their shoulder baldes. If he/she gets lost or runs away and somebody finds the animal, they can locate the owner. A few other things a dog needs are dog shampoo, a dog brush, and toys. All dogs need to be groomed whether they do it or take him/her to get groomed. Toys are things the dog can play with. The toys also help him/her to not chew on the furniture or shoes. Big dog bones work better. However, that is just the beginning. The owner has to find the best local veterinarian clinic to take their anmial to. In order for the vet to see the dog, they have to make an appointment. When

Claudio Monteverdi vs. Domenico Scarlatti Essay A comparison of two major Baroque composers: Claudio Monteverdi and Domenico Scarlatti The purpose of this paper is to analyze two psalms by Claudio Giovanni Antonio Monteverdi (1567 1643) and Giovanni Domenico Scarlatti (1685 1757) and compare and contrast the two pieces to find out how music changed throughout the Baroque period. While historians grouped music of the Baroque period together based on certain characteristics, the music did not remain the same throughout the period, as it would not for any other musical time period. Composers from different points in the Baroque period were chosen, but the things the two composers had in common were the country of residence and their nationality. There is octave doubling in the bass, and the fifth occurs often since it was considered to be perfect or somehow godly. What makes this psalm different from Scarlatti s other psalms is that it is the only psalm that exhibits an organized concerto style. This psalm is also written in Latin, and has no indicated dynamics. It begins in D major, and switches to A and E major, and b and a minor throughout the setting, and ends back on D major. The piece does have some ornamentation, consisting of argued trills. The argument comes from odd markings on the original manuscript. Some people feel that the markings were just hastily drawn trills, while others feel they may actually be mordants. In the newest transcription, they have all been transcribed as trills. The main reason for the lack of ornamentation put into the music is an attempt to make the music less frilly. In the Baroque era this tooking away from the sacred message it was supposed to send. While both pieces are a part of each composer s library of sacred music, they are in some respects not very much alike and in others they are very similar. There are the obvious things they have in common such as the fact that they are written in Latin. That is not too surprising considering some churches still used Latin as the primary language in their services, even though in the Baroque period many churches began using the vernacular so the patrons would understand the services. Aside from that, Monteverdi, being more
  • 20. Power Of Familia In this chapter, I will investigate the various meanings of familia. The theme of my chosen vocabulary is the language of power and thus it is necessary to compare the power of the magistrate or state official to that of parents in the home. The word derives from the noun famulus which means servant or slave (LS 1879). I will be contrasting the use of familia with that of domus as aspects of words connoting power. Saller (1999: p.84) states that familia was never used to mean father, mother, and children as in today s term familyas it referred, as we can see from its etymology, to the slave staff of a house. It must be noted that the word retainers can also be interpreted as the king s court, his households and estates, and all his dependants. In this way, familia is used to indicate the king s possessions and

Women received much less wages so they began some of the earliest demands for equal pay. For example, a committee was set up by the War Cabinet in 1917 to examine the question of women s wages. There were accidents and women got killed or injured. Some women in munitions factories were called canaries because they had to handle TNT (the chemical compound trinitrotoluene) which caused their skin to turn yellow. In his book, the Steppenwolf, Hermann Hesse explores some of the issues relating to deviation from the norm like how an individual is affected. In addition, the play Mother Courage and her Children also presents various matters relating to the norm, its significance, and how the environment is altered in case of a deviation. Furthermore, Bertolt Brechtvividly examines how an individual has a difficult time to adapt to the changes in the norm naturally. This idea that our lives are governed by an uncontrollable force consumes us in ways that most people do not come to terms with. D.H. Lawrence uses compelling imagery in the Rocking HorseWinner to create an insight of dark fortune. He accomplishes this through the relationship of the mother and her children, the use of the rocking horse, and the conflict of luckwithin Paul. Lawrence continually emphasizes the non existent relationship between the mother and her children. He begins by telling us that the children had been thrust upon her, and she could not love them . This sets the tone for the rest of the story; a desire for good fortune makes the children seem like underappreciated burdens. Several times the mother says things to the children with bitterness in her voice as if they inconvenience her. Only the mother and her children know of the loveless hard little place in the mother s heart. They read it in each other s eyes . The simple act of leaving the apathy unspoken creates a sense of despair for both parties. The mother fills this gap in their lives by becoming obsessed with money and blaming all of their misery on bad luck. In turn, the children follow her example and become consumed by this belief as well. The desire is so great that the house came to be haunted by the unspoken phrase: there must be more

Theme Of The Virgin Suicides The Virgin Suicides, by Jeffrey Eugenides, is a novel that deals with the complexities of being a teenager, dealing with related themes such as growing up, loss of innocence, adolescent sexuality, loneliness, unrequited love. These seemingly innocent themes however, develop a darker side, as they lead to the suicides of the main characters Lux, Bonnie, Celia, Mary and Therese: the 5 Lisbon sisters. The themes of objectification and The Male Gaze also become relevant through the nature of the detached male narrative; The story is told retrospectively through the the viewpoint of an unknown number of anonymous boys, now middle aged men, who grew up in the same middle class suburban neighbourhood in middle America as the girls. This first person plural narrative, as well as various stylistic devices such as diction, imagery, metaphors and tone all affect the way the Lisbon sisters are represented to the reader.... They do not know the girls well on a personal level, only rarely coming into contact with them, and most of their evidence comes from watching and admiring the girls from afar, or collecting as many small snatches of them as they can ; admitting to looking through (the Lisbon s) order slips (Eugenides 89), analyzing the contents of their lockers (Eugenides 142), and watching them through binoculars (Eugenides 146) in order to glean some sort of information about them. • 42. Elephant Poaching The complexity surrounding conservation is a theme that I found both important and compelling. This topic came up during the Class within a Class on the Illegal Wildlife Trade. One of the readings assigned was a New York Times article about elephant poaching. After working at a charity focusing on wildlife preservation in Africalast summer, I had become passionate about elephantconservation. I had learned about the rapid decline of elephants along with the threat of poaching based on the ivorytrade. Yet after completing the readings, I realized that the issue was more complicated than I had previously appreciated. For example, I was unaware of the complex geopolitical elements of the issue: the ivory demands of middle class China, the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The severity of these political and economic factors often impacts the success of a given convention s outcomes. We surveyed a variety of conservation treaties, from the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species (CITES) to the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) to the Agreement on the Conservation of Populations of European Bats (EUROBATS). Some of these, such as EUROBATS, were more successful, with a smaller group of countries being able to work in close cooperation through this treaty. Most European countries are relatively politically and economically stable and have a network of NGOs that can assist in conservation efforts. This contributed heavily to the success of EUROBATS. Conversely, CITES is an agreement that spans the globe, requiring the needs and interests of the global North and South be taken into account. As seen with the elephant poaching case study, some countries lack the ability to enforce the rules of CITES, even if they are a party to the convention. Without the cooperation of these countries, the impact of CITES on wildlife conservation has been weakened. The complexity surrounding conservation highlights the difficulties in creating an effective conservation regime for a given species and the problems in designing a treaty acceptable to all global States. Yet it also stands as a reminder of the necessity of global cooperation for solving trans boundary environmental problems an overarching theme of this course that is applicable to almost every issue we
  • 43. Genoghhis Khan And The Legacy Of Genghis Khan Genghis Khan was undoubtedly one of the most vicious and brutal leaders in world history. However, the legacy of Khan is also one of cultural development, artistic achievement, an elegant way of life and an entire continent united under the Pax Mongolia. The famed leader and his successors created the largest empire ever to exist, spanning across the entire Asian continent. An empire as such could not have been created without strong leadership, stellar organizational skills and the most resilient army ever known. Genghis Khanmay be well known for his brutality and destructive cavalry however, Khan did good for his own people and earned the Mongolians a reputation of glory. Genghis Khan was an emperor, who lead his people in such a way that was accepted in the tenth century. Back then war was a very reality, and if it involved massacres, then it was generally tolerated. However, many people forget that Khan s rampage left such a path of destruction that he irrevocably destroyed entire empires and populations in the interest of habitable environments. In more recent times, people have pointed out that Joseph Stalin was responsible for nearly twenty million deaths. This death toll would have made him more brutal than the Nazis, who held a death total of seventeen million people(White). Yet, Stalin cannot even compare to the brutality of the Mongols under the leadership of Khan. Genghis Khan was responsible for the deaths of roughly forty million people, and he was glad to
  • 44. The Economic Growth And Development Currently, the economic growth and development is improving the performance of the New Zealanders that has over the past 30 years made them part of the global market. This requires that Lush improve its performance in relation to standardisation. This demands that it balances its character of its products to maintain a local and international consumer appeal. This is important based on evidence from firms selling luxuries in the Chinese market where maintaining brand consistency has been core (Liu, et al., 2016, p. 360). As a corollary to this, Lush should appreciate that consumers desire to experience an enjoy life that can be compared to global levels in wellbeing. However, this should be done taking into account that New Zealanders value truthfulness in promotion that is key in brand identity. These should be underscored by strategies that improve brand knowledge that is important in attracting consumers through a local and internationally balanced appeal. Though not in the same industry, this has helped international universities increase their student populations in foreign countries (Hemsley Brown, et al., 2016, p. 3020). Supply and Production As earlier stated the role played by industrialisation in New Zealand is immerse. This can help in improving the production of goods and services if Lush was to process most of its products. Considering that, Lush prioritizes the production of its product using labour that gives it an opportunity to explore the role of

  • 46. The Importance Of The Executive Branch The Executive Branch is one of the three important branches that make up the United States Federal Government. The president is the head of both this branch, and the entire government. He/She has wide variety of powers and acts as America s spokesperson. America s Presidents have shaped the Country s history drastically in many different ways. Despite the Executive branch s highly prominent role in government, it has faced much controversy. Patrick Henry, who was one of the Founding Fathers, one said this after reading the constitution, Among other deformities, it has an awful squinting; it squints toward monarchy, and does not this raise indignation in the breast of every true American? Your president may easily become king. (lexrex, Shall Liberty or Empire be Sought?) Although today the president is not a king, both the president and the entire executive branch has grown in power and strength since the late 1700s. When the founders created the constitution they understood the importance as well as the risks of the executive branch. They saw the many monarchies of European countries and the trials and troubles caused by it. They saw the corruption of tyrant rulers and the effects it had on the people. Not wanting the same to happen to the new country, they kept this in mind and created the constitution so that no president could turn the government into a tyranny. However, they also understood that the president and his members needed some power to perform the job

Some studies have reported that the saponin glycosides content of T. arjuna might be responsible for the inotropic effects, while the flavonoids provide free antioxidantactivity as well as vascular strengthening, conforming the pleiotropic actions of T. arjuna (Figure 3). Although, voluminous data is available from the various preclinical experiments on T. arjuna, but a unifying hypothesis that accounts for its biological activity and targets are still unidentified and under discussion. 6.1: Anti Oxidant, Anti Inflammatory Immuno modulatory actions: Till date only few studies have reported the anti inflammatory actions of T. arjuna on pro inflammatory cytokines and chemokines. Recently, an in vitro study reported that both alcoholic and aqueous bark extracts of TA diminished the human monocytic (THP 1) and aortic endothelial cell stimulation and decreased the levels of inflammatory markers such as TNF О± induced gene transcripts of cell surface adhesion molecules (VCAM 1, ICAM 1, E selectin) and chemokines (MCP 1 and IL 8) showing the promising anti inflammatory property of TA (Kokkiripati et al., 2013). Policy Introduction and Identification In January of 2013, the Department of Defense set aside the 1994 Direct Ground Combat Definition and Assignment Rule (Carter, 2015). This takes all restrictions off women allowing all who meet the qualifications to hold a combat role in the military. The Armed Forces have opened over 110,000 positions to women and have set their standards. Anyone, who can meet operationally relevant and gender neutral standards, regardless of gender, should have the opportunity to serve in any position (Carter, 2015). Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... From the beginning of American history men have fought our battles, but little do people know women have always been in our nations battles. During the Revolutionary War women follow their husbands to war, many serve in camps as cooks and nurses but had to obtain permission from the commanding officer if they proved themselves helpful (U.S. ARMY, 2017). From 1782 to 1783 Deborah Sampson served over a year in General Washington s army disguising herself as a man, until she was wounded; reveling her true gender and being honorably discharged. Skipping ahead to 1861 the America Civil War, women would serve as administrators of hospitals as well as cooks and nurses in both the Union and Confederate hospitals. From 1917 to 1918 World War I, women were allowed to join the military. • 51. Drug Use And Its Effects On Society Despite the issues regarding the scientific studies, evidence has drawn positive links suggesting people who use drugs are more likely to engage in criminal activity than non users if simply because they are breaking the law to obtain the substance of use. Research does support this contention as people who are arrested for various crimes test positive to be under the influence of a drug at the time they committed their offense. However, the evidence remains elusive as to whether the drug use led to the crimeor the crime was separate from the drug use and related needs (i.e., money to buy drugs, territorial wars, etc.). Because of inconsistent data and definitions in reporting, statistical evidence is not empirical enough to draw hard conclusions regarding the relationship between drugs, including alcohol, and crime, or to quantify how much of that crime begins with the innocent seeming lighting up of a marijuana cigarette. In addition, when more than one drug is present, it is difficult to assess which of the two or more might have induced or inspired the criminal behavior, if any. The association between alcohol and violence illustrated through various studies makes it clear that correlations between drug use and crime are greater complicated through the presence of other dynamics such as socio demographic and personality characteristics. Given these cautions regarding the research and studies then, it is interesting to note that studies limited to marijuana only do not
