Creature Symbolism
Towards the latter part of the novel, the Creature symbolizes the point in the human psyche when Man
starts to become inherently bad when he gains more reward from doing wrong than he does from
doing what is right. It is seen in his final moments with De Lacey s family. For a period of several
weeks, the Creature waits patiently as he observes De Lacey s family in order to connect with them
and embody their language as his own, but they eventually abandon him due to his grotesque form. In
their first interaction with each them, he sees their expression as a horror and consternation on
beholding [him], (Shelley 122)[.] Agatha and Safie faint and scream at the sight of him next to their
father as Felix proceeds to attack the Creature. At this point, the Creature is at the point of no return as
he realizes that he will never be accepted by any human and he is destined to live a life of damnation.
At this very moment, the Creature s innocence becomes so engulfed by a feeling of hatred and spite
for humanity that he believes he can, with pleasure have destroyed the cottage and its inhabitants, and
have glutted me with their shrieks and misery, (Shelley 124). Irving Buchen describes this stage in the
creature s life as an emergence of, limited evolution of a human animal who exists solely in the
hermetic seal of his individuality within a natural, not a human, environment (Buchen). This is another
way of saying that the Creature has resorted to his savage instincts: the thirst

Techsonic Case Study
INTRODUCTION After several new product failures, the company began using customer input to
help develop new products. In 1989, the fishing electronics industry is experiencing a downturn, and
the company s sales and profits are slipping. The company, which has one product line (depth
sounders) and a strong brand (Hummingbird), has conducted substantial market research on three new
products. These products are project 901, hummingbird VHF Radio, Locator/ GPS navigator. Of these,
project 901 is an extension of the depth sounder product, while the other two would be new product
lines for the company. Top management is deciding which one or more of the three new products it
should proceed with. In this paper, I will discuss the positive and ... Show more content on

Positive aspects of the product · From Exhibit 5, 901 project is a clear winner because it scored high
on the dimensions of uniqueness and purchase likelihood. · 901 earned high uniqueness score of any
techsonic product and highest intention to buy score since the original LCR in 1984 · Fresh water
fishers and mid sized boat owners were the most likely to buy the product. From exhibit 4, techsonic
already is a market leader in freshwater LCD units and 901 would increase its market share. · Based
on techsonic retail pricing plan of $441 for standard unit and $629 for deluxe unit, 901 would
represent sales of $71.2 million. · Important perceived benefit of 901 is that it helped customer find
fish faster and see them better, which is exactly what the customers are looking to get from a depth
sounder product. · 901 can make fishing easier and hence more fun for the customers. · Exact features
that customer wants in standard and deluxe models was easily obtained through market research ·
MRF suggested retail price of $529 for standard model and $629 for deluxe model Which is more than
what techsonic had initially estimated · Techsonic can continue to distribute project 901 products
through mass market channels since customers are already aware of depth sounders. Negative Aspects
of the product · Project 901 is an extension to LCD depth sounder and won t compete with Morpal s

The Golden Age of Heian
Periods of time with peace and stability politically and religiously, paired with flourishing arts, are
called Golden Ages . One thriving, revolutionizing time like this occurred in Heian, Japan from 794 to
1185 C.E., under the rule of the Fujiwara family. Succeeding the Nara period, many aspects of the
Heian culture, such as Buddhism and the writing system, were borrowed from China. However, in this
time, Japan took those preconceived ideas and really made them their own, adding many new ones
along the way. The peace and stability, as well as influential literature greatly contributed to this
period s golden legacy. Poetry during this time, most importantly Lady Murasaki s novel, Tale of
Genji , reflected this time period and forever changed today s writing, making this era a truly
prosperous golden age.
This thriving golden age might have flourished, but it started out small, just like any other era. The
Heian period began when the capital was moved from Nara to Heian, modern day Kyoto. Many noble
families moved along with it (Charles). The Nara period had just ended, and aristocrats violently
fought for power. Therefore, for the sake of peace, that s why the capital was moved. The Fujiwara
family rose to power, and the golden age began. As Japan s second great period of Japanese culture
arose, it brought many accomplishments with it (Fitzgerald).
Peace and stability, especially politically,

Denny s Wife Monologue

Washington eyed him and spoke in a quavering voice. Then... help... me... get... this... scumbag.

Denny was rocked. Rashida was tortured? And suffocated, not strangled? He felt like throwing up. I
thought she was strangled.
Washington shook his head. Suffocated. We ve seen it before. These sick psychos tie a clear plastic
bag over the victim s head and take them to the edge of suffocation over and over before they finally

Oh my God, he said softly. A toy radio controlled car with its hood off was wired to the stereo.
Whoever did this knew exactly what they were doing and triggered it precisely when they wanted to.
In fact, Denny looked out the open windows, whoever did it was probably watching him right now.
Fine, Denny thought. He gave the finger to the darkness outside. And yeah, whoever did this knew
exactly what they were doing, and when it came to remote ignition devices, like this was, firemen
knew exactly what they were doing. Denny sighed and lifted the toy car from behind the stereo.
Whoever did this not only got into his apartment they must ve been watching him but they triggered
the device just before he got home. Which meant they didn t want to burn the entire apartment

Section D: Analysis
This paper is answering to the question: to what extent did the left wing political opposition lead to the
Spanish Civil War, 1936 1939? There are many factors that influenced and that caused the Spanish
Civil War breakout, however this essay is focusing in 4 long run causes, more specifically: the role of
the Spanish Army, the role of the Church, the nature of the economy and the new left wing ideologies.
The Spanish army had a very powerful influence in politics, due to its role in Spain s imperial past. It
was likely to be compared as the protector of the nation. The Spanish army had already intervened
before in politics several times, the last one in 1936, breaking out the war. It did not have an appeal on
the working class, since they were very brutal, and more important, very expensive to maintain with
very high taxes. They were more likely to be related to the middle high class, and therefore even more
unlikely to cause an appeal on the Spanish labour force. For this labour force the Spanish Army was
just a symbol of fascist authority. After the progressive Popular Front was selected, the middle high
class already planned a military offensive against the leftists ideologies.
The second factor discussed is the role of the Church. The Church, as always has been,

Effects Of Sesame Street On The Education Of Young Children
When introduced to the idea of an epidemic, people are urged to think of viruses, fashion trends, or
even peaks of crime. One does not see something as virtuous as Sesame Street to be a wide spreading
contagion. Yet, Sesame Street provoked a social epidemic as one of the most influential children s
television programs of its time. Malcolm Gladwell has studied the effects of Sesame Street on the
education of young children in his novel, The Tipping Point. He has three overall generalizations of all
epidemics, including the Law of the Few, the Stickiness Factor, and the Power of Context. I will apply
these generalizations to his example of Sesame Street to support Gladwell s argument. In addition, I
will support his argument using the philosophical theories of Alasdair McIntyre and Theodore M.
Porter. Overall, Gladwell poses a convincing argument that the success of Sesame Street is due to the
complete combination of his three generalizations. The beginning of Sesame Street as an epidemic
began with the very start of the television program. Television producer, Joan Ganz Cooney embarked
on a mission to create a children s learning epidemic (Gladwell 89). Many epidemics that are covered
in Gladwell s novel are unintentional. The producers of Sesame Street, however, purposefully
researched the effect of their show to ensure that it was impactful. It is arguable whether or not they
wanted to provoke an epidemic, but the effects of the program were completely intentional. In

Ramirez Future Plans
Generally, people know the career path they are on as they prepare to graduate college. Most of the
time they are interested in their major and in the best case, they are truly passionate about their
upcoming career. Kenny Ramirez was the perfect example of the best case until four months before
graduating from UC Santa Cruz.
Interviewee
Basic Information
I sat down with Kenny Ramierez in the conference room at the Mayfair Community Center where he
has been the Recreation Supervisor for 10 and a half months. Kenny was working in non profits where
he was implementing progress and change to improve the community. After he presented some of his
ideas in a meeting with city officials, the Deputy Director approached him and very strongly

When the staff arrived at Mayfair on the morning of the interview, they found that taggers had
vandalized the community center. I could tell how deeply this affected Kenny, possibly because of
how much he wants to make the community center a wonderful place for the residents of San José.
Future Plans
Goals
Kenny s short term goals include improving the city wide youth program, assessing programs as they
are, and getting staff to buy into the ideas he has for improvements. As for long term goals, Kenny
would like to move up to a federal level of overseeing programs. He wants to do big things for seniors,
families, and people who have mental health disabilities.
Blank Check Question I asked Kenny a question I ve always wanted to ask in an interview. If he had a
blank check, what would he do with it? I was not prepared for all the ideas that came out: add a
second floor to the community center and expand the gym into the second story, add a parking garage,
take out the solar panels and put athletic turf out on the field, fill the library with Kindles and digital
books so that people have access to pretty much any book, add a dog park, repaint the community
center, re seal the concrete, upgrade the staff break room, put in state of the art computers, and start a

Crystal Violet Formal Lab Essay
Determination of Reaction Rate Law from the Reaction of Crystal Violet with Sodium Hydroxide
______________________________________________ Abstract: This experiment helps determine
the rate of reaction of crystal violet while it reacts with sodium hydroxide with respect to crystal
violet. The amount of sodium hydroxide is varied in this experiment while crystal violet is kept at a
constant. The transmittance of crystal violet is observed and recorded using a colorimeter and the data
obtained is used to plot graphs which are manipulated using LoggerPro software to produce the
desired outcome; rate of reaction of crystal violet. Upon completion of the experiment it was seen that
the rate of reaction of crystal violet turned out to be 1 ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It must be noted that only the absolute value of the slope matters in this situation. Third order
reactions have somewhat a similar story except they require a plot of 1/concentration versus time to
determine rate of reaction. When all three graphs are plotted, the graph with the line of best fit, or the
one in which all point seem to be on a straight line is the correct one for the reaction. This is easily
drawn using the LoggerPro software. When all three graphs are drawn, the graph with the best fit line
and lowest root mean square error, or the lowest deviation from the best fit line, is the graph to be used
to determine reaction kinematics. This knowledge is acquired from the equations of the integrated rate
laws which are explained in the textbook. The solutions are mixed in small amounts in cuvettes and
inserted into the colorimeter, which reads the percentage transmittance during the time period. The
colorimeter has an enclosed space for the cuvette to be inserted making sure light from other sources
does not interfere with the reaction, hence providing accurate results. The rate of the reaction is
determined by using the equation: Rate= k [CV+] [OH ], where k is the rate constant for the reaction.
Materials: Solutions of crystal violet and sodium hydroxide were available in the laboratory which
were previously prepared of concentrations 2.00 E 5 and 2.00 E 2 respectively. Deionized water was

to customize products: With the desired raw material, a 3D printer, and the required blueprint, one can
manufacture any object one wants, with the specifications and design of one s choice. Rapid
production of prototypes: 3D printing enables quick production of prototypes or small scale versions
of the real object. The printing of some products can be done within minutes. This helps researchers
and engineers plan the actual object and catch any design flaws that may affect quality and
functionality. Low cost of production: Although the initial cost of setting up a 3D printing facility may
be high, the cost of the 3D printer is remunerated through the overall savings in the form of labour
costs and time saved. Equal effort for small scale and mass manufacturing ensures that the cost of
production is relatively low. No storage cost: Since 3D printers can print products as and when
needed, there is no expense on storage of goods is required. Also models for printing can be made
using computer aided modeling (CAD) and there is no storage required for the models as

The current economic situation has required that organizations rethink the way that they do business.
With people losing jobs and salaries being cut, people are spending money on essentials and opting

Agriculture Is The Foundation Of A Country s Economic...
Agriculture is the foundation of a country s economic strength. Growth of the agricultural industry
increases national income, sustains the livelihood of growing populations, maintains a trade balance
for all goods and encourages further motivation for the economic development in a country. The
agricultural industry represents 32.4 % of global income. In the U.S, agriculture contributes 3% to
national income and in Japan, 6% contributes to national income. Increasing U.S. agricultural exports
to other developed countries such as Japan, would provide beneficial opportunities for agricultural

Following Japan s unprecedented economic growth during the postwar period, Japan s agricultural
comparative advantage has significantly declined. In response, Japan, over the last two decades,
implemented protectionist policies to soften the impact of declining comparative advantage. These
policies included; border protection, support of agricultural product prices, subsidies on agricultural
inputs and quantitative restrictions on imports of certain agricultural commodities. However, the
majority of quantitative restrictions were lifted after the GATT multinational panel declared it illegal
in 1988. The implementation of protections is attributed to Japan s rapid industrial growth in the 1980
s, which further deteriorated comparative advantage. Although Japan s economy has slowed in the
recent years, the agricultural sector still has not caught up with the population boom. Furthermore, the
inability to reallocate resources resulted in the strengthening of protectionist policies and widened the
gap of international agricultural trade. Additionally, the farming sector was able to retain strong
political influence which increased the reluctance of the Japanese government to lift protections.
Ultimately, the longer Japan keeps agricultural protectionist policies in place, it will become more
difficult for Japan to reallocate resources to accommodate free trade. There are several ways in which
the elimination of Japan s protectionist policies would

The stranglehold of the old elites (the conservative monarchists, established families, and merchants)
was breaking down in Iraq. Moreover, the populist pan Arab nationalism of Gamal Abdel Nasser in
Egypt would profoundly influence the young Ba athist, even up to the present day. The rise of Nasser
foreshadowed the wave of revolutions throughout the Middle East in the fifties and sixties, which
would see the collapse of the monarchies of Iraq, Egypt, and Libya. Nasser challenged the British and

Rise in the Ba ath party
A year after Saddam had joined the Ba ath party, army officers led by General Abdul Karim Qassim
overthrew Faisal II of Iraq. The Ba athists opposed the new government, and in 1959, Saddam was
involved in the attempted assassination of Prime Minister Qassim. Saddam was shot in the leg, but
managed to flee to Syria, from where he later moved to Egypt. He was sentenced to death, in absentia.
In exile he attended the University of Cairo law school.
Army officers, including some aligned with the Ba ath party, came to power in Iraq in a military coup

As a result of financial crisis of 2007/8 Iceland experienced greater economic destruction, and chose
to deal with the problem by allowing their economy to collapse.
Iceland s democratic government is similar to that of US in a number of key areas. But first we must
understand that many countries define democracy differently. If we mean Which country has ensured
that all adult citizens regardless of sex, race, or ethnicity, may choose representatives to exercise the
powers of government longest? , then the answer is New Zealand. Universal adult suffrage was first
established there in 1893. However, Iceland might have a claim at the title because the Althing which

today.8
The first key difference between to consider between the US and Iceland is the size of the government
due mostly to the size of the population. The US population has about three hundred twenty one

s Arrive focused on German soldiers throttling a woman, while Belgian villages burned in the distance
(Brock, 2012, p. 255). In a similar manner, Massacre at Dinant describes the killing of more than six
hundred townspeople, including women and children (Brock, 2012, p. 255). These paintings showed
that the German s had no mercy towards any Belgian native, not even the women and children that

Realism In Bronte s Jane Eyre
Bronte s Jane Eyre effectively transcends the genres of literature to depict the emotional and character
development of its protagonist. Whilst no overall genre dominates the novel exclusively, the blending
contributes towards the portrayal of Bronte s bildungsroman (Realisms, 92) as Jane Eyre grapples with
her inner self, and the social expectations of her gender. The novel incorporates Jane s frequent
conflicts, oppression, isolation and self examination as she defends her identity and independence. Set
amongst five separate locations, Bronte s skilful use of literal and metaphorical landscapes, nature,
and imagery, skilfully intertwines with the plot and denotes each phrase of her maturity. To deliberate
these points further, chapters 1 and 23, will be analysed in detail. In addition it will argue how Bronte
used the setting of Jane Eyre, to demonstrate that women can go beyond the oppressive limitations of
their gender, economic and social class and environment and find fulfilment. It will also consider how

(Realisms, 90) The reader is oriented immediately to bird imagery. The Victorians loved comparing
women to birds. To the typical Victorian sentimentality, a woman was like a bird. She was beautiful
and delicate. She needed to be taken care of, because on her own she was vulnerable. Her life s
purpose was to protect the nest and the nestlings, or children. However, in contrast the images Jane
focuses on are not pictures of pretty birds, but bleak shorelines. Already we have a contradiction. Jane
is like a bird, but she is plain and bleak, and is trapped like a caged bird. These grim images virtually
turn the vision of Victorian bird imagery on its head revealing that Jane is not a traditional Victorian
woman and these bird images depict the affinity Jane has with birds and the conviction to be free once
she finds the strength and bravery she needs to take flight on her

Understanding And Being Able To Speak A New Language Can
Understanding and being able to speak a new language can only bring positive things. In addition to
improving your resume, several studies claim that knowing more than one language makes you
smarter, because you use parts of your brain that would otherwise be unused. In addition, if you are
one of those who travel a lot, knowledge of other languages is vital for you to be able to get the most
out of your travels. Having a second language is one of the most demanded requirements in the
workplace, so today studying a language is no longer a whim, it is almost a necessity. Most medium or
large companies have an international and not only local or national projection, so they need their
employees to be able to communicate with people from ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Due to the existence of this simultaneous process, one of the purposes of the teacher should be to help
the student make both hemispheres work together.
The pre school stage, according to theories of neuropsychological development, is excellent for
introducing new concepts in a second language to the child. The child s brain is like a sponge. Since
50 percent of the ability to learn is developed in the first years of life, and another 30 percent by age
eight, early childhood development programs have the opportunity to encourage early learning and
development.
During the first six months of life, babies babble using 70 sounds that make up all the languages in the
world. The babies will learn to talk using only the sounds and words that they hear from their
environment, principally from their parents and caregivers. A baby s brain will then discard the ability
to speak in languages he or she does not hear (Kotulak, 1996). During this period and especially the
first three years of life, the foundations for thinking, language, vision, attitudes, aptitudes, and other
characteristics are laid down, says Ronald Kotulak, author of Inside the Brain. That s one of the
reasons why is better to learn the second language when you are young.
The impulses of the second language must be constant since the children learn faster, but also they

Peyton Approved Summary
Recently an operating budget was created for Peyton Approved, a pet supplies manufacturer. The
company s operating budget is a projected forecast for the quarter July through September 2015. The
budget includes specific calculations of the sales, production, manufacturing (raw materials, direct
labor, and factory overhead), selling, and general and administrative operations. After actual activity
was recorded and compared to the operating budget for Peyton Approved, variances were found that
caused unfavorable results in the company s total direct labor and total direct materials accounts.
These variances need to be analyzed and investigated so corrective actions can be taken.
A thorough review of the budget variance report indicates a few ... Show more content on

This occurrence could have been caused by the company hiring workers with less skill resulting in a
decrease in total wages paid out. This is also a controllable variance (Accounting Tools, n.d.) so
managers will have the opportunity to adjust the cost of labor as they see fit. Also, the budgeted cost
of labor may have been set too high in the first place causing the total cost to be overstated
(Accounting Simplified, n.d.). It s also important to look into whether or not actual figures are being
reported as oppose to purposely recording favorable values (Nobles, Mattison, Matsumura, Horngren,
2014). The variance in the labor efficiency may be a direct reflection of the use of less skilled workers.
The employees used more time (hours) than expected and the result yielded an unfavorable outcome.
If the workers are not experienced enough to complete a task efficiently more hours will be used to
compensate production demands. Other causes could be attributed to the condition of the equipment
and/or poor supervision (Accounting for Management, n.d.). Faulty equipment could play a role in
slowing down production and supervisors must step in immediately to remedy any issues that may
cause a noticeable change in budgeted expectations. In the future, Peyton Approved should consider
hiring employees that match the skill level required to perform as expected. They should also do an
evaluation to determine the conditions of their equipment (Garcia, n.d.) and advise production
managers on the proper procedures to motivate their workers to achieve company goals. Upon
examination of the material variance, it s noted that there were no direct material cost variances. The
explanation is simple; Peyton Approved was spot on when they priced their parts. There was no gain
nor loss connected to direct materials. Unfortunately, the materials were not used efficiently so the

Sister Act Sparknotes
The Academy showcases their annual musical. The Sister Act begins with the protagonist, Deloris,
who has ambitions of becoming the next big thing. Her life turns upside down when she catches her
significant other murdering one of his employees. In order to secure safety, the police hide her in a
convent. There, we meet the other sisters including Mother Superior who despises Deloris. However,
Deloris saved the church by reconstructing their choir. As for the murderous husband, he was caught
by the police when attending one of the mass ceremonies. The protagonist is Deloris Van Cartier who
initially wanted to pursue a singing career. Sister Mary Robert was the youngest out of the others. She
is a shy and innocent character who metamorphoses into a bold and confident sister. Unlike Sister
Mary Robert, Sister Mary Patrick is always an outgoing and spontaneous character. Mother Superior
acts as an antagonist for most of the performance. Lt. Eddie Souther is the policeman who helps
Deloris and captures the primary antagonist who is Vince LaRocca. ... Show more content on

This is mainly due to the blocking and how boring the scene often got. The majority of the scene
consisted of the characters sitting in the pews. This is the same concept for the sleeping scene. I could
not decide on whether Deloris was exhausted or awake during this scene. The strongest aspects of the
play are the singings and the ability that every main character could hit the notes. I do not recall any
moments when the actors messed up or forgot their lines. Particularly, I was impressed by Pablo who
spoke Spanish. The characters are more realistic compared to previous years, therefore, staying in
character seems easy for this year s

Great Debaters Discussion Questions
In the film The Great Debaters, the true story of a college debate team in Texas highlights the
importance of public speaking. In numerous instances, if a topic makes a large group uncomfortable
this topic goes untouched. However, in this film, the debate team bravely brings on those topics that
are close to their hearts, even though society does not want to talk about these issues. The most
prominent example of uneasy topics is when James Farmer Jr., in the middle of a Harvard debate, with
a predominantly white audience, goes to talk about the lynching of people of color. While this was a
topic purposely not brought up due to making people uncomfortable, by Farmer doing this it started
the discussion. Obviously, one man saying lynching is inhumane does not solve the problem.
However, one voice can start a discussion. Discussions lead to ... Show more content on

Public speaking is the spark that leads to the realization of the need for change. When the world
becomes so conditioned to not talk about the uncomfortable issues, it becomes easy to forget how
harmful they truly are. However, public speaking is that opportunity to hold up that mirror to society,
and command a change to be made. All of the great social shifts were fueled by the speeches of those
who cared. The famous of all being the famous I Have a Dream speech, which still is quoted today. In
order for change to take place, an individual must speak up in some sort of public forum to identify
the problem.
As a passionate person, in my own public speaking experiences, it is extremely easy to let my
emotions overpower my logic. Whether this be negative feelings making me too hotheaded to focus,
or too passionate and rambling, my own emotions get in my way of public speaking. However, in this
film, the character Samantha Brooke was an excellent way to represent people like me. During her

African American Political Experience Of African Americans...
When you have influence on someone or something you have the ability to change things
unknowingly. African Americans have influences upon the United States in numerous ways. Socially,
politically and emotionally the black experience embodies influence on our lives today. When I reflect
on the issues that African Americans faced centuries ago, and the issues that we are facing today it
seems to be a reflection. I am a African American woman staring in a cracked mirror watching the
issues of the past reflect back in the world I live in today. African American political experience from
the 20th century have an affect on us as we continue to experience things today day we are striving to
grasp change, equality and justice.
African Americans political experiences have always been a silent cry, it was mentioned in class how
when African Americans stand up for something it s like giving a dog a bone. The minimum is done in
some cases to make the problem quiet down. African Americans have a silent cry in the sense that
people can see what they are dealing with but they won t do anything about it. During the middle of
the 20th century there were African Americans leaving the South in search of jobs ,to have a better life
for their families and be in better circumstances. Desegregation of armies, which allowed more
soldiers to fight in the war and go to war. This was a time that African Americans were wanting more

Practice Of Trade After The World War I Essay
.1 Practice of trade before GATT
The history of GATT discussions and the present WTO are the birth right of commitments that the
countries have voluntarily agreed with each other. To appreciate the foundation of the present
blueprint of import protection across WTO member countries in addition to products and industries
within those countries, it is important to turn to the past. Western Europe after the World War I was
caught up with economic instability and disparity of the economic recovery following the World War
II was more evident in the context of international trade relations. Economic reconstruction after the
World War I was deficient in institutional machinery to make possible the reduction of trade barriers
that has arisen during the war and had become well established thereafter. The European countries had
faced political weaknesses and it was reflected in trade policies which was evident with the proposal
of equality of trade conditions in draft League of Nations was discarded in favour of a the provision
for the equitable treatment. The World Economic Conference held in 1927 found it indispensible to
call upon the governments to do away with maritime controls on trade, which incorporated, licensing
requirements, import quotas and foreign exchange controls. After over a decade of its formation, the
League of Nations had nevertheless had yet to sponsor any negotiations on liberalizing world trade
from high tariffs, and the commencement of the depression

Buddhism, Hinduism, And Hinduism
Throughout human history, there have been thousands upon thousands of religions that have started,
ended, and are still being practiced today. Most of these religions are based off the belief in a god, or
have a moral code that they need to follow in order to appease their god or achieve salvation in the
afterlife. Three religions that will be highlighted here are Buddhism, Sikhism, and Hinduism. In each
of these three religions, they all share some religious tenets, or beliefs, that is universally accepted
amongst all religions around the world and throughout history. Some of these tenets include the belief
in a god or a Supreme Being. These religions also have similar moral values and a code to live by.

There are two different schools of thought in Buddhism, Theravada and Mahayana, which have
varying goals of life. They do, however, have a similar path to get to their ultimate goal in life. Most
of their path to get to a state of Nirvana, as the Theravada believes, comes through discipline.
Discipline comes from the Four Noble Truths, which also contains the eightfold path. The Four Noble
Truths are that there is suffering in the world, suffering in the world comes from desire, desire and
worldly attachments need to end for suffering to end, and there is a path to end suffering. The
eightfold path is actually the fourth noble truth. The eight practices include: right view or
understanding, right thought, right speech, right action, right livelihood, full effort, right mindfulness,
and meditation. This path is done to try to obtain wisdom and discipline on the way to spiritual
enlightenment. The enlightenment stage brings forth the next universal tenet, which is the afterlife.
The Buddhist school of Theravada believes in an afterlife called Nirvana, which literally means
blowing out or becoming extinguished. Nirvana is the liberation from the never ending cycle of rebirth
known as the samsara cycle where the believer becomes one with the Supreme Being. Nirvana is
similar to the afterlife in other religions in that once the believer reaches this final destination, it is said
to be a euphoric ending to the rebirth cycle. The third tenet that

Assistive Technology Solutions For Students With Learning...
Assistive Technology Solutions
Technological advances have increased access to the curriculum for students with learning disabilities.
Assistive technology are the devices and services used to maintain or improve the capabilities of a
student with a disability (Dell, Newton, Petroff, 2011). Through these technologies, students with
learning disabilities are able to complete tasks in the classroom that they were otherwise, unable to
achieve. Prior to the availability of assistive technology, a student who was unable to use their hands
or arms, would not have been able to write or type on a computer in the classroom. Additionally,
students unable to read because of visual disabilities, or reading disabilities such as dyslexia, had a
difficult time accessing information in the traditional classroom setting.
Assistive Technology Software
There are a variety of computer software programs and hardware designs available to use for students
with disabilities. These assistive technology designs help the student to access information they were
unable to do before. Text to speech software, such as Kurzweil 3000, reads the material aloud to the
student. Documents can be scanned into the program allowing the student to have the computer read
them the text. The student is able to complete the work independently; affording them access to the
curriculum and a new independence. Another example of assistive technology is speech to text.

The Use Of Chant Therapy Help Increase And Avoid The...
This study was done on the use of chant therapy to help decrease and avoid the symptoms of vocal
fatigue in public school teachers. Vocal fatigue includes two main symptoms; there is a continuous
increase in phonatory use and effort and then a loss in phonation. This condition is often recognized in
other professional voice users such as singers and actors. However, vocal fatigue in teachers has not
been as well known and has only recently been addressed to the public. Reports from public school
teachers indicated symptoms of vocal fatigue shortly after they started teaching. Coaches, drama, and
music teachers are educators that are more susceptible to vocal fatigue. However, any teacher that has

All four teachers reported vocal fatigue after a few years of teaching. Teachers were excluded from
this study if they were already in voice training and if they had any organic or acute vocal pathologies
seen on an ear, nose and throat (ENT) evaluation or endoscopic exam. The goal for this study was to
use chant therapy to decrease the individuals fatigue by making it a habit for them to use differential
muscle activity. To meet this goal the authors focused on finding a normal speaking pitch, increased
prosodic accent and a better standard deviation for their fundamental frequencies. A Voice Range
Profile (FRP) was used to find a more efficient speaking pitch. The pitch targeted was characterized
by being in the individual s lower range where the largest loudness gain was found in the semitone
below it. The individuals were taught this pitch and it was used as the mediation note for chant
therapy. The researchers also implemented a placebo therapy. It included the same amount of non
effortful speech as the chant therapy and there were no environmental or behavioral changes
implemented. Each individual was paired with another and was told to speak to each other in a normal
voice for one hour, which was the same amount of time as the chant therapy. They were then given an
end of the session questionnaire and 3 of the 4 subjects stated that they thought the placebo therapy
was beneficial. The chant and placebo therapy included six

The Roles Of Children In Ancient Greece
The portrayal of children in Ancient Greece changed from the Archaic period (610 480 BC) to their
portrayal in the Hellenistic age (323 31 BC). Through art, scholars can piece together the status and
roles of children, including how their lives were different in various city states.
Art became became more personal and more detailed during the Hellenistic age; for example, the
portrayal of children during this time depicted their physical and mental state often a playful scene
free from the worry and stress that weigh down adults; while during the Archaic period, artist tended
to depict children as adults that were simply smaller in size.
Another interesting and different depiction of children in Ancient Greece can be found in comparing

The Between Vietnamese And American Education Essay
Entering Tran Phu High School, I remember there was a huge white banner with bold letters, For the
sake of ten years, we must plant trees; for the sake of a hundred years, we should cultivate people. In
fact, the process of cultivating people requires lots of effort, as much as planting a tree. To ensure a
tree develops successfully, not only do people plant it into the ground, but they must also take care of
it regularly. Undoubtedly, sharing the same task as planting a tree, education plays an integral role in
contributing to people s success. Fortunately, having a chance to experience with Vietnamese and
American educational systems, I have realized each one has its own value of educating people.
Although both attempt to cultivate people, they have striking differences. One difference between
Vietnamese and American education is their rules regarding students appearances and their behaviors.
First of all, most Vietnamese students must wear uniforms and show up in a natural looking
appearance. Specifically, students must wear white shirts and long dark blue pants and tuck in the
shirts. Also, girls are not allowed to wear makeup, color their hair, or even paint their nails. Boys must
have a clean short haircut. Secondly, in Vietnam, students must display appropriate manners at school
such as showing fully respectable behavior towards their teachers and not treating their classmates
cruelly. For example, students must keep quiet during lectures until teachers allow

  • 2. Creature Symbolism Towards the latter part of the novel, the Creature symbolizes the point in the human psyche when Man starts to become inherently bad when he gains more reward from doing wrong than he does from doing what is right. It is seen in his final moments with De Lacey s family. For a period of several weeks, the Creature waits patiently as he observes De Lacey s family in order to connect with them and embody their language as his own, but they eventually abandon him due to his grotesque form. In their first interaction with each them, he sees their expression as a horror and consternation on beholding [him], (Shelley 122)[.] Agatha and Safie faint and scream at the sight of him next to their father as Felix proceeds to attack the Creature. At this point, the Creature is at the point of no return as he realizes that he will never be accepted by any human and he is destined to live a life of damnation. At this very moment, the Creature s innocence becomes so engulfed by a feeling of hatred and spite for humanity that he believes he can, with pleasure have destroyed the cottage and its inhabitants, and have glutted me with their shrieks and misery, (Shelley 124). Irving Buchen describes this stage in the creature s life as an emergence of, limited evolution of a human animal who exists solely in the hermetic seal of his individuality within a natural, not a human, environment (Buchen). This is another way of saying that the Creature has resorted to his savage instincts: the thirst ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Techsonic Case Study INTRODUCTION After several new product failures, the company began using customer input to help develop new products. In 1989, the fishing electronics industry is experiencing a downturn, and the company s sales and profits are slipping. The company, which has one product line (depth sounders) and a strong brand (Hummingbird), has conducted substantial market research on three new products. These products are project 901, hummingbird VHF Radio, Locator/ GPS navigator. Of these, project 901 is an extension of the depth sounder product, while the other two would be new product lines for the company. Top management is deciding which one or more of the three new products it should proceed with. In this paper, I will discuss the positive and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Positive aspects of the product · From Exhibit 5, 901 project is a clear winner because it scored high on the dimensions of uniqueness and purchase likelihood. · 901 earned high uniqueness score of any techsonic product and highest intention to buy score since the original LCR in 1984 · Fresh water fishers and mid sized boat owners were the most likely to buy the product. From exhibit 4, techsonic already is a market leader in freshwater LCD units and 901 would increase its market share. · Based on techsonic retail pricing plan of $441 for standard unit and $629 for deluxe unit, 901 would represent sales of $71.2 million. · Important perceived benefit of 901 is that it helped customer find fish faster and see them better, which is exactly what the customers are looking to get from a depth sounder product. · 901 can make fishing easier and hence more fun for the customers. · Exact features that customer wants in standard and deluxe models was easily obtained through market research · MRF suggested retail price of $529 for standard model and $629 for deluxe model Which is more than what techsonic had initially estimated · Techsonic can continue to distribute project 901 products through mass market channels since customers are already aware of depth sounders. Negative Aspects of the product · Project 901 is an extension to LCD depth sounder and won t compete with Morpal s Flashers or Chart · Project 901 would attract only ... • 4. The Golden Age Of Heian Dorf Samantha Ms. Lee Global History 23 March 2015 The Golden Age of Heian Periods of time with peace and stability politically and religiously, paired with flourishing arts, are called Golden Ages . One thriving, revolutionizing time like this occurred in Heian, Japan from 794 to 1185 C.E., under the rule of the Fujiwara family. Succeeding the Nara period, many aspects of the Heian culture, such as Buddhism and the writing system, were borrowed from China. However, in this time, Japan took those preconceived ideas and really made them their own, adding many new ones along the way. The peace and stability, as well as influential literature greatly contributed to this period s golden legacy. Poetry during this time, most importantly Lady Murasaki s novel, Tale of Genji , reflected this time period and forever changed today s writing, making this era a truly prosperous golden age. This thriving golden age might have flourished, but it started out small, just like any other era. The Heian period began when the capital was moved from Nara to Heian, modern day Kyoto. Many noble families moved along with it (Charles). The Nara period had just ended, and aristocrats violently fought for power. Therefore, for the sake of peace, that s why the capital was moved. The Fujiwara family rose to power, and the golden age began. As Japan s second great period of Japanese culture arose, it brought many accomplishments with it (Fitzgerald). Peace and stability, especially politically, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Rashida was tortured? And suffocated, not strangled? He felt like throwing up. I thought she was strangled. Washington shook his head. Suffocated. We ve seen it before. He fanned his hand across the traces of putrid smoke still rising, his eyes watering. He wiped his eyes and looked closer. And yeah, whoever did this knew exactly what they were doing, and when it came to remote ignition devices, like this was, firemen knew exactly what they were doing. Denny sighed and lifted the toy car from behind the stereo. Whoever did this not only got into his apartment they must ve been watching him but they triggered the device just before he got home. Which meant they didn t want to burn the entire apartment building down, for certainly someone who did would ve used more combustible material, say a trash container, more accelerant and a less detectible method of ignition. Values linked to origins and purpose Limitations linked to O and P Section D: Analysis This paper is answering to the question: to what extent did the left wing political opposition lead to the Spanish Civil War, 1936 1939? There are many factors that influenced and that caused the Spanish Civil War breakout, however this essay is focusing in 4 long run causes, more specifically: the role of the Spanish Army, the role of the Church, the nature of the economy and the new left wing ideologies. The Spanish army had a very powerful influence in politics, due to its role in Spain s imperial past. It was likely to be compared as the protector of the nation. The Spanish army had already intervened before in politics several times, the last one in 1936, breaking out the war. It did not have an appeal on the working class, since they were very brutal, and more important, very expensive to maintain with very high taxes. They were more likely to be related to the middle high class, and therefore even more unlikely to cause an appeal on the Spanish labour force. For this labour force the Spanish Army was just a symbol of fascist authority. After the progressive Popular Front was selected, the middle high class already planned a military offensive against the leftists ideologies. The second factor discussed is the role of the Church. The Church, as always has been, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Effects Of Sesame Street On The Education Of Young Children When introduced to the idea of an epidemic, people are urged to think of viruses, fashion trends, or even peaks of crime. One does not see something as virtuous as Sesame Street to be a wide spreading contagion. Yet, Sesame Street provoked a social epidemic as one of the most influential children s television programs of its time. Malcolm Gladwell has studied the effects of Sesame Street on the education of young children in his novel, The Tipping Point. He has three overall generalizations of all epidemics, including the Law of the Few, the Stickiness Factor, and the Power of Context. I will apply these generalizations to his example of Sesame Street to support Gladwell s argument. In addition, I will support his argument using the philosophical theories of Alasdair McIntyre and Theodore M. Porter. Overall, Gladwell poses a convincing argument that the success of Sesame Street is due to the complete combination of his three generalizations. The beginning of Sesame Street as an epidemic began with the very start of the television program. Television producer, Joan Ganz Cooney embarked on a mission to create a children s learning epidemic (Gladwell 89). Many epidemics that are covered in Gladwell s novel are unintentional. The producers of Sesame Street, however, purposefully researched the effect of their show to ensure that it was impactful. It is arguable whether or not they wanted to provoke an epidemic, but the effects of the program were completely intentional. In ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. Ramirez Future Plans Generally, people know the career path they are on as they prepare to graduate college. Most of the time they are interested in their major and in the best case, they are truly passionate about their upcoming career. Kenny Ramirez was the perfect example of the best case until four months before graduating from UC Santa Cruz. Interviewee Basic Information I sat down with Kenny Ramierez in the conference room at the Mayfair Community Center where he has been the Recreation Supervisor for 10 and a half months. Kenny was working in non profits where he was implementing progress and change to improve the community. After he presented some of his ideas in a meeting with city officials, the Deputy Director approached him and very strongly encouraged ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... When the staff arrived at Mayfair on the morning of the interview, they found that taggers had vandalized the community center. I could tell how deeply this affected Kenny, possibly because of how much he wants to make the community center a wonderful place for the residents of San José. Future Plans Goals Kenny s short term goals include improving the city wide youth program, assessing programs as they are, and getting staff to buy into the ideas he has for improvements. As for long term goals, Kenny would like to move up to a federal level of overseeing programs. He wants to do big things for seniors, families, and people who have mental health disabilities. Blank Check Question I asked Kenny a question I ve always wanted to ask in an interview. If he had a blank check, what would he do with it? I was not prepared for all the ideas that came out: add a second floor to the community center and expand the gym into the second story, add a parking garage, take out the solar panels and put athletic turf out on the field, fill the library with Kindles and digital books so that people have access to pretty much any book, add a dog park, repaint the community center, re seal the concrete, upgrade the staff break room, put in state of the art computers, and start a scholarship seed ... Crystal Violet Formal Lab Essay Determination of Reaction Rate Law from the Reaction of Crystal Violet with Sodium Hydroxide ______________________________________________ Abstract: This experiment helps determine the rate of reaction of crystal violet while it reacts with sodium hydroxide with respect to crystal violet. The amount of sodium hydroxide is varied in this experiment while crystal violet is kept at a constant. The transmittance of crystal violet is observed and recorded using a colorimeter and the data obtained is used to plot graphs which are manipulated using LoggerPro software to produce the desired outcome; rate of reaction of crystal violet. Upon completion of the experiment it was seen that the rate of reaction of crystal violet turned out to be 1 ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It must be noted that only the absolute value of the slope matters in this situation. Third order reactions have somewhat a similar story except they require a plot of 1/concentration versus time to determine rate of reaction. When all three graphs are plotted, the graph with the line of best fit, or the one in which all point seem to be on a straight line is the correct one for the reaction. This is easily drawn using the LoggerPro software. When all three graphs are drawn, the graph with the best fit line and lowest root mean square error, or the lowest deviation from the best fit line, is the graph to be used to determine reaction kinematics. This knowledge is acquired from the equations of the integrated rate laws which are explained in the textbook. The solutions are mixed in small amounts in cuvettes and inserted into the colorimeter, which reads the percentage transmittance during the time period. Following Japan s unprecedented economic growth during the postwar period, Japan s agricultural comparative advantage has significantly declined. In response, Japan, over the last two decades, implemented protectionist policies to soften the impact of declining comparative advantage. These policies included; border protection, support of agricultural product prices, subsidies on agricultural inputs and quantitative restrictions on imports of certain agricultural commodities. However, the majority of quantitative restrictions were lifted after the GATT multinational panel declared it illegal in 1988. The implementation of protections is attributed to Japan s rapid industrial growth in the 1980 s, which further deteriorated comparative advantage. Although Japan s economy has slowed in the recent years, the agricultural sector still has not caught up with the population boom. Furthermore, the inability to reallocate resources resulted in the strengthening of protectionist policies and widened the gap of international agricultural trade. Additionally, the farming sector was able to retain strong political influence which increased the reluctance of the Japanese government to lift protections. Whilst no overall genre dominates the novel exclusively, the blending contributes towards the portrayal of Bronte s bildungsroman (Realisms, 92) as Jane Eyre grapples with her inner self, and the social expectations of her gender. The novel incorporates Jane s frequent conflicts, oppression, isolation and self examination as she defends her identity and independence. Set amongst five separate locations, Bronte s skilful use of literal and metaphorical landscapes, nature, and imagery, skilfully intertwines with the plot and denotes each phrase of her maturity. To deliberate these points further, chapters 1 and 23, will be analysed in detail. This occurrence could have been caused by the company hiring workers with less skill resulting in a decrease in total wages paid out. This is also a controllable variance (Accounting Tools, n.d.) so managers will have the opportunity to adjust the cost of labor as they see fit. Also, the budgeted cost of labor may have been set too high in the first place causing the total cost to be overstated (Accounting Simplified, n.d.). It s also important to look into whether or not actual figures are being reported as oppose to purposely recording favorable values (Nobles, Mattison, Matsumura, Horngren, 2014). The variance in the labor efficiency may be a direct reflection of the use of less skilled workers. The employees used more time (hours) than expected and the result yielded an unfavorable outcome. If the workers are not experienced enough to complete a task efficiently more hours will be used to compensate production demands. Other causes could be attributed to the condition of the equipment and/or poor supervision (Accounting for Management, n.d.). Faulty equipment could play a role in slowing down production and supervisors must step in immediately to remedy any issues that may cause a noticeable change in budgeted expectations. In the future, Peyton Approved should consider hiring employees that match the skill level required to perform as expected. They should also do an evaluation to determine the conditions of their equipment (Garcia, n.d.) and advise production managers on the proper procedures to motivate their workers to achieve company goals. Through these technologies, students with learning disabilities are able to complete tasks in the classroom that they were otherwise, unable to achieve. Prior to the availability of assistive technology, a student who was unable to use their hands or arms, would not have been able to write or type on a computer in the classroom. Additionally, students unable to read because of visual disabilities, or reading disabilities such as dyslexia, had a difficult time accessing information in the traditional classroom setting. Assistive Technology Software There are a variety of computer software programs and hardware designs available to use for students with disabilities. These assistive technology designs help the student to access information they were unable to do before. Text to speech software, such as Kurzweil 3000, reads the material aloud to the student. Documents can be scanned into the program allowing the student to have the computer read them the text. The student is able to complete the work independently; affording them access to the curriculum and a new independence. Another example of assistive technology is speech to text. Vocal fatigue includes two main symptoms; there is a continuous increase in phonatory use and effort and then a loss in phonation. This condition is often recognized in other professional voice users such as singers and actors. However, vocal fatigue in teachers has not been as well known and has only recently been addressed to the public. All four teachers reported vocal fatigue after a few years of teaching. Teachers were excluded from this study if they were already in voice training and if they had any organic or acute vocal pathologies seen on an ear, nose and throat (ENT) evaluation or endoscopic exam. The goal for this study was to use chant therapy to decrease the individuals fatigue by making it a habit for them to use differential muscle activity. To meet this goal the authors focused on finding a normal speaking pitch, increased prosodic accent and a better standard deviation for their fundamental frequencies. A Voice Range Profile (FRP) was used to find a more efficient speaking pitch. The pitch targeted was characterized by being in the individual s lower range where the largest loudness gain was found in the semitone below it. The individuals were taught this pitch and it was used as the mediation note for chant therapy. The researchers also implemented a placebo therapy. It included the same amount of non effortful speech as the chant therapy and there were no environmental or behavioral changes implemented. Each individual was paired with another and was told to speak to each other in a normal voice for one hour, which was the same amount of time as the chant therapy. They were then given an end of the session questionnaire and 3 of the 4 subjects stated that they thought the placebo therapy was beneficial. The chant and placebo therapy included six ... • 34. The Between Vietnamese And American Education Essay Entering Tran Phu High School, I remember there was a huge white banner with bold letters, For the sake of ten years, we must plant trees; for the sake of a hundred years, we should cultivate people. In fact, the process of cultivating people requires lots of effort, as much as planting a tree. To ensure a tree develops successfully, not only do people plant it into the ground, but they must also take care of it regularly. Undoubtedly, sharing the same task as planting a tree, education plays an integral role in contributing to people s success. Fortunately, having a chance to experience with Vietnamese and American educational systems, I have realized each one has its own value of educating people. Although both attempt to cultivate people, they have striking differences. One difference between Vietnamese and American education is their rules regarding students appearances and their behaviors. First of all, most Vietnamese students must wear uniforms and show up in a natural looking appearance. Specifically, students must wear white shirts and long dark blue pants and tuck in the shirts. Also, girls are not allowed to wear makeup, color their hair, or even paint their nails. Boys must have a clean short haircut. Secondly, in Vietnam, students must display appropriate manners at school such as showing fully respectable behavior towards their teachers and not treating their classmates cruelly. For example, students must keep quiet during lectures until teachers allow ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
