Cuban Missile Crisis Speech
The Cuban Missile Crisis was one of those events that held people s breaths as the possibility of a
nuclear war became more probable with every passing second. The whole Western Hemisphere
(along with the rest of the world) was to be impacted by such events which made the United States
commander in chief s address all that more important. Had John Fitzgerald Kennedy not addressed
the people, Cuba, the Soviet Union, and all other countries in an effective manner, the fears of
World War III with nuclear weapons would have become a reality. Through his impeccable skills as
an orator, John F. Kennedysuccessfully delivered a speech that informed the country about the
current crisis, described the uncertainty of these events, and warned the Soviet Union that any
attack will not proceed without consequences. It is imperative, before analyzing a speech, to
understand the circumstances at hand at that very moment and the historical context that surrounds
it. The rhetor (John F. Kennedy) was the 35th President of the United States; according to his
White House archive, JFK was a leader that was very active regarding economic programs and
civil rights legislation (white house). Prior to Kennedy, the CIA launched an invasion of Cuba to
overthrow Fidel Castro which only made tensions between the US, Cuba, and the Soviet Union
escalate which ultimately resulted in the Cuban Missile Crisis(History.com Staff). As per
History.com, the duration of the standoff between the United States and the Soviet Union lasted
thirteen days. In other words, the people in the Western Hemisphere and all over the world lived
with uncertainty of how this would be resolved or if there was even a way to avoid nuclear war
between the two powers. On October 14, 1962, an American spy plane made a trip over Cuba
which provided photographic evidence that Soviet missiles were being installed there (History.com
Staff). After the missiles were discovered, JFK delivered this speech to the American people,
Cuba, the Soviet Union, and all other countries that were affected by this threat. John F. Kennedy s
address to the nation begins by referring to his audience as his fellow citizens , in an attempt to set
a common ground between him and the people.

work Addison emphasized his reader to build strong responsible values. The essence of this
responsibility is to be diligent, and continuous improve one s virtues to improve the state of order.
Responsibility is encouraged through the works of Joseph Addisons in Spare Time , Cato, a Tragedy

The Enhancement Of Primary Care Practices
Primary care is considered by many countries as a backbone of the medical health system that is
effective and efficient and satisfies the demands of patients and families (Sebo, 2015). The
enhancement of primary care practices quality improvement (QI) orientation is essential in
strengthening the primary care practices (U.S. Department of Healthand Human Services Agency
for Healthcare Research and Quality, 2013). In addition, external supports such as feedback and
benchmarking, coaching, expert consultation, and shared learning can help primary care practices
with quality improvement and enhancing QI orientation. There are different organizations that
provide quality supports to primary care practices. One of this is the North CarolinaArea Health
Education Centers (AHECs) Practice Support Program. The aim of the program is to support
primary care practices in North Carolina by providing primary care practices with onsite QI
consultants, tools, and resources that help primary care practices transformational efforts (U.S.
Department of Health and Human Services Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality,
2014).The aim of this paper is to summarize two articles related to primary care.

Empirical Sport Psychology Related Research Articles
The present review will analyze and critique five empirical sport psychology related research
articles. Moreover, the discussion of each article will include which statistical method was used,
why it was used, and whether or not it was appropriate for the data. In addition, the article
discussion will include a description and possible critique of the author s interpretations of the

Virtual Reality ( Vr )
After standing in line at Best Buy for over an hour, I was finally given the chance to try a new
piece of technology I had been following for several years. They fastened a thick headset over
my face and I was instantly transported to a different world. Here, my hands held a bow and
arrow and I began to shoot countless enemies to defend a kingdom from certain ruin. I was now a
part of something that what was once fantasy and now only possible in this alternate world. These
digital universes are now possible thanks to the recent introduction of Virtual Reality(VR), a piece
of tech that allows the user to enter digitally created realms. The technology consists of a headset
(that a user would place on their head), which covers one s face and sight with a big thick dome.
Inside that dome is a screen that projects into the user s eyes, creating a world in which they can
feel and interact in. The user can look around and touch things with their body, just like in the real
world. This helps to make someone feel immersed in an alternate reality, hence the name Virtual
Reality. This device has definitely had a big impact on the tech world and is a gamechanger to
many. Because this device so new, it has yet to catch on with the general masses, leading many to
think that this will not be the next big thing. Many believe the tech to be just another fad that will
die out, as with Nintendo s Wii and its motion gaming. Others are skeptical about possible
controversies that will arise

Iron Curtain Speech Research Paper
The Cold War was the state of tension between democratic nations and the communist Soviet Union.
There were two opposing groups in the group. The United States and their allies formed NATO
(North Atlantic Treaty Organization) and the Soviet Union and their allies formed the Warsaw Pact.
The NATO was formed to stop the progression of communism throughout countries and the Warsaw
Pact wanted to take over countries to spread communism. The Cold Warlasted from 1945 to 1992.

Before the First World War, German scientists James Franck and Gustav Hertz conducted
experiments where they added electrons to Mercury atoms. They traced the energy changes that the
collision caused. That experiment led Nils Bohr to make a theory that an atom can absorb energy in
precise and definite amounts. After that experiment, many other scientists conducted research on
radioactive methods to chemical problems and conducted more experiments on how elements

Churchill using the term Iron Curtain was iconic. The term became a part of the vocabulary used
when talking about Cold War. The speech was used to confirm the relationship with Britain and the
United States (forming an alliance). The speech was a warning of the danger that was the Soviet
Union and Communism. By giving the speech let the public know the dangers of the Soviet Union.
I think the Iron Curtain Speech speech was really interesting. I found myself to get lost while
watching the video of the speech as I was getting information about the topic. I think it was
important for the speech to be given. I don t have any other solution for the speech because it didn
t affect anyone in a negative way (unlike the A Bomb). Overall, I enjoyed reading about the topic
and how it set the beginning of the Cold War.

Garden City And Garden City
Introduction
In late 19th, because of a dramatic increase of population, increasing urbanization and
industrialization, cities had been overcrowded and the environment was being destroyed as well.
Furthermore, more and more people moved to the urban cities from rural area for having more job
opportunities. Consequently, cities were over centralizing. It is contributed to the slums in city
which is the cause of disease breaking out. It leads to the decrease of human s life quality in urban
cities. Moudon (1997) points out that control by the private sector, unhealthy rapid economic
growth, overcrowding, poor sanitation, poor housing, weak government control, unorderly and

These cities would have adequate space of residential habitation, industrial work and agricultural
production. In order to shift people who moving to the urban cites to the suburbs, a concept of
garden city setting was coming out by Ebenezer Howard. His idea was inspired by the utopian
wave which existed from mid and the close of 19th century. Howard (1902) idealized that in
garden city, a 6,000 acre site would have 32,000 people living in. Furthermore, there was a
sustaining potential which is the limit of the population density in garden city plan, so they
would build a new garden city nearby when another city has reached the limit. In Howard s book,
there is a central city surrounded by lots of garden cities which could afford 50,000 people. Roads
and rail is the way linking those garden cities. The aim of garden city planning is to create a
beautiful, sociable and healthy communities with both a good natural environment and high quality
of housing affordability. A combination of the active and energetic city lifestyle with the delight
and the beauty of the countryside was the way to achieve it.
Moreover, in order to well organize the garden city movement, a concept of town, country, and town
country magnets was published in Howard s book. According to Howard (1902), different magnets
have different characteristics. Town magnet with refers to urban city is presenting high

Lucretius Writing on the Fear of Death Essay
At the most basic level of subconscious thought, every living animal possesses a desire to stay alive.
Usually, this instinct lays dormant, although in dire situations, we can be led to do unexpected
things. In addition to this subconscious drive, there is a socially constructed motivation for fearing
death. Thanks to the pervasive nature of religion throughout history, much of humanity has, at some
point or another, feared the prospect of eternal damnation and torture during one s life after death.
Although not every religion has a negative aspect of the afterlife, or even any semblance of an
afterlife at all, those religions which do contain some such construct receive much more attention in
this regard. Throughout history, many... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In On the Nature of Things, Lucretius argues that not only is the whole of the human body (both
tangible parts, like organs, and intangible concepts, like the soul) created from distinct types of
atoms, but that this is the basis upon which an afterlife may be disproved. One of the principle
tenets of atomism is that the atoms people are comprised of provide the basis for physical
sensations we might experience, such as heat, touch, smell, et cetera. Lucretius provides the
corollary to this view by noting that without some mechanism for processing these input data, we
would not smell things, or might burn our hands in a fire. This cognition of external stimuli is one
of the key functions of the soul atoms which permeate our bodies. The soul, Lucretius says, is
comprised of four distinct types of atoms: breath, heat, air, and a fourth, unnamed variety, which is
more mobile than the other three (3.231). The presence of these soul atoms can be proved by
observing a person s reactions to various ailments; sickness afflicts both the body and the mind, for
example, demonstrating that they are intrinsically linked. In addition, because sensation may occur
at any point in or on the body, the soul must be distributed completely and evenly throughout
oneself. Atomism says that no atoms are ever created or destroyed,

Consumerism And The Conformity Of Consumer Culture
The dominance of capitalist countries has facilitated the conformity of global civilization and
cultural environments resulting in an increase of consumer cultures (Sarmela, 1977; Chaney, 2004).
As capitalism experiences a natural and unavoidable expansion, consumers engage with consumer
culture creating invisible products such as social status, identity, cultures, and ethical relationships
(Sternberg, 2017). There are two sides to consumer culturethat are the values held by society; those
who conform and those who rebel (Turow McAllister, 2014). All participants of society align with
either submission or resistance to dominant ideas, values, and social structures. However, as a result
of continued progressive diversity and fragmentation, the distinction between submissive and
resistance are blurred. Nevertheless, those who resist and rebel are still participants of consumer
culture. Instead they instead form sub cultures in society with alternative beliefs, values and ideas
that challenge the mainstream (Chaney, 2004). In order to better understand the relationship
between consumption practice and the resistance of consumer culture, theories of reflexive project
of self, prosumers, lifestyle commodification, and incorporation will be analyzed in relation to the
vegan movement.
Prominent media scholar, John Fiske (1989), theorized numerous ways in which the consumption
of media and prevalent culture, even shopping itself, could be conceptualized as acts of resistance.
Resistance can be defined as the ways in which a subcultural style and activity works to challenge
the dominant social order (Southerton, 2011). Veganismis becoming an increasingly popular
lifestyle choice for health and environmental conscious individuals and is viewed as a form of
resistance to mainstream consumption practices. The consumer develops their identity as someone
who does not use animal derived food or products of any kind such as; dairy, eggs, fur, leather,
feathers, or any goods involving animal testing (Lawrence, 1993). Veganism is an extended form of
vegetarianism, and though the term was defined in 1944, the concept of a plant based diet can be
traced back to ancient Indian and Eastern Mediterranean societies (Suddath,

Ntroduction.Recently, The Student Run Newspaper Published
ntroduction Recently, the student run newspaper published their daily edition with many hasty
stories about students, staff, and faculty. The April Fools edition was meant to be a comedic
spoof on campus activities, however, this year it was not so. The students wrote about the
Renaissance club who attacked a group of Chinese students, a soccer coach who was arrested for
domestic violence and a faculty member who was a militant member of a secret society. None of
the stories are true. Many of the key actors are showing their power through disgruntled messages.
It seems as though the newspaper has lost its values over the years and may need to be connected

This is monetarily consuming. Departments who are feeling the affect of the budget reductions
may feel bitter towards the newspaper. The other departments have needs that they feel are more
important, for example, the graduate student department. They are having to cut funds to their
graduate students and yet the newspaper is fully operational. This is also a display of conflicting
resources. The university has a diminishing budget. Many groups on campus have been affected by
this and are claiming whatever power they have left to keep their remaining budget. If one group
makes a mistake and the other has a chance to claim some of their budget, they surely will. This
changes the dynamic that departments have with each other.
The office of Residential Life and the Graduate School have both expressed their concern for their
international student s safety. This is a problem for our university reputation. If news spreads about
the uncomfort students feel, even in response to a fake article, it could threaten our potential
student s outlook on our university. The two departments are reinforcing the idea because they have
not calmed the fire. Instead of going directly to the source of the articles, they have chosen to turn
to a higher department to explain their grievances which creates a conflict between the newspaper
and the other two departments.
Lastly, the NCAA has expressed their distaste in regards to their

Art Gallery At The Powerhouse Museum And The First Emperor...
The 21st century has seen a dramatic increase in the challenges facing cultural institutions,
particularly museums. One of the most pressing issues currently facing museums worldwide is the
diminishing level of government support. Despite reductions in government funding, the sustained
maintenance of museumcollections and facilities continues to require substantial resources. In the
face of such difficulties, a growing number of museums have turned to innovative programming,
specifically exhibitions, as a way to ensure financial viability through increased attendance. Given
the growing competition for consumer leisure time in today s society, attention has shifted away
from traditional scholarly collection based exhibitions, towards the populist exhibition format
offered by blockbuster exhibitions. Through a discussion of Harry Potterв„ў: The Exhibition at the
Powerhouse Museum and the First Emperor: China s Entombed Warriors at the Art Gallery of New
South Wales, this essay will examine the two approaches museums are taking to the blockbuster
model. It will be argued that although exhibitions reflecting popular culture are becoming
increasingly more common, there are institutions that manage to reflect popular taste in ways that
continue to advance scholarship and create opportunities for lifelong learning.
Museological literature offers many definitions of the blockbuster exhibition. According to Elsen, a
blockbuster is a large scale loan exhibition which people who

My Experience In My Basketball Game
We lost seven of our first nine basketball games. All we had to do to start winning was lose our
starting guard me to injury. I broke the fourth metacarpel in my left hand just below the ring
finger during Christmas break of my senior year. Of the nine games we played, I started all of
them, and we lost all but two of them. Then, after my injury the team won sixteen of their last
eighteen games. I could have learned many lessons from this experience, such as I should have
given up basketball nine games earlier, or everyone contributes to the team effort some just do it
better from the bench. But, I learned much more than that. Coach Ernst looked a bit surprised
when I showed up dressed out and ready to practice with my bulging left forearm the next day.
(In addition to the fiberglass cast, I wrapped it with a bit of padding and an ace bandage to
prevent any more injuries to teammates.) I realized that he expected that I would sit and watch
practices and still be a part of the team at least in name, but I know he was surprised when I was
ready to still work hard; especially considering I really had little chance to play the rest of the
year. I realized that no one would push me except myself in this situation. So, I practiced hard
that day, and every other day. The only reward was that I knew I was pushing myself as hard as I
could, and by so doing I was also pushing my teammates. Sweating profusely in a cast packaged up
in an ace bandage created a stench that made the

Similarities Between Frankenstein And An Essay On Man
There are several identical themes in both Alexander Pope s An Essay on Man, and Mary Shelley
s Frankenstein. In An Essay on Man, Pope describes many complexities of mankind, which range
from man s identity, to his relationship with God. In Frankenstein, Shelley depicts the story of
Victor Frankenstein, a scientist who creates a living being, and he later suffers negative
consequences as a result of his actions. Alexander Pope s An Essay on Man, contains similar
themes to Mary Shelley s Frankensteinbecause he raises questions about self identification, the
influence of scientific knowledge on an individual, and how the desire to act like God can be

For example, In Pope s poem, while describing several complexities of humanity, he exclaims: Go
wondrous creature! Mount where science guides (19). This quote highlights the ability that
scientific knowledge has to inspire an individual. The phrase Go wondrous creature connotes a
glorifying identity for those who choose to accept and participate in the inspirational world of
science. However, if the knowledge is pursued to an extreme, it can begin to have disastrous.
results. In Mary Shelley s novel, Frankenstein s work exhibits the theme of the negative influence
that scientific knowledge can have, because while reflecting on the process of constructing the
Creature, Frankenstein states: I seemed to have lost all soul or sensation but for this one pursuit
(36). As his obsession with his pursuit advances, he describes: Every night I was oppressed by a
slow fever, and I became nervous to a most painful degree (38). These quotes function primarily to
demonstrate that Frankenstein chooses to embrace scientific knowledge, but he becomes so
consumed by it, that the desire for pivotal scientific development possesses him to a most painful
degree. As a result, Frankenstein becomes a slave to his work, and it has an extremely harmful
impact on his mental and physical well being. Frankenstein s obsession with scientific knowledge

Reaction Paper On Pre-Interaction
Pre Interaction:
What information are you seeking to gain from this interaction?
During this interaction, I am hoping to gain information about various topics on campus. The
following topics include: Public Safety, lack of trash cans, how to get commuter students more
involved, and how can we improve the GCU experience for commuter students. The reason, I
bought up discussing about Public Safety, is that commuter students are the ones who constantly
are walking to and from the Halo and 29th Avenue garages and I just wantto see if there has been
any issues. The reason, I plan on discussing the lack of trash cans, is that it was bought up to my
attention during a previous interaction that there were not trash cans by the popular areas like the
student union and the Engineering classrooms. Also, this individual was concern that there is a
lack of trash cans by the commuter lounge. The third question, I wanted to focus on how we could
get more commuter students to our events. Lastly, I want every commuter student to feel like they
have a great college experience that is why I am asking how we can make their experience at GCU
better.
Please list the questions that you plan to ask students below:
Do you feel safe when coming on and off campus? How you experience any issues?
Do you feel there is a lack of trash cans near popular areas like the Student Union and the
Engineering building?
How can we get more commuter students involved on campus?
How can we improve your GCU experience?

Cardiac Muscles
The human body consist of 680 skeletal muscles. The name of a muscle can distinguish its
location, action, shape, and function. One such example is the biceps brachii, which is commonly
referred to as biceps. As the name implies, this is a two headed muscle. The term biceps brachii is
a Latin phrase that means, two headed muscleof the arm. This is references to the fact that the
muscle consists of two bundles of muscles. Each of these bundles has its own origin and share a
common insertion point near the elbow joint. The biceps brachii muscle is the one that gave all
muscles their name because it comes from the Latin, musculus, meaning, little mouse. . This
originated because the appearance of the flexed biceps resembles the back of the... Show more

The name of the muscle comes from Latin, meaning, Three headed arm muscle. This muscle is
sometimes called the three headed muscle because there are three bundles of muscles and each has
a different origin and join together at the elbow. The triceps is an extensor muscle of the elbow and
its function is to fixate the elbow joint when the forearm and hand are used for fine movements,
such as writing. The triceps can function through either isolation or by compound extension
movements.
The quadriceps femoris, most commonly referred to as quadriceps, comes from Latin, which
means, four headed muscle of the femur. These are large muscle groups that include the four
prevailing muscles on the front of the thigh. Quadriceps are also divided into four portions, or
heads, hence from the Latin origins. The quadriceps are powerful extensors of the knee joint. These
muscles are crucial for walking, running, jumping, and squatting.
The skeletal muscles are one of three major muscles types. As the name implies, these muscles are
attached to bones by bundles o collagen fibers that are known as tendons. Skeletal muscles are
made up of individual components that are known as muscle cells. These muscles have the
appearance of long cylinders. The basic function is responsible for skeletal muscles to

Blue Girls By John Crowe Ransom
John Crowe Ransom s poem, Blue Girls, is one speaker s attempt at trying to help a group of
young school girls develop a more grown up view of themselves and the world around them.
Ransom attempts to portray the reality of the actions and attitude of its targeted group, the blue
girls, and attempts to enlighten them as to truth of the real world namely that their teenage hood
and general life is actually a short experience and that in which no one can prolong any portion of
it. By providing a depiction of a group of somewhat silly and irrational young girls, the speaker
attempts to show these same girls the hard truth they re not so different from their elders whom
they ridicule. This writer finds the identity of the speaker of the poem... Show more content on

The United States Should Not Freedom Of Choice
life by decades, biotechnology has the same potential to do the same. Therefore, most advocates
argue that since the technology is there it should be used. For ages humans have been, enhance
through education and biotechnology could be another method in order to continue to further
develop human life. Although no one opposes that humanlife should be enhanced, not everyone has
the same definition of what constitutes the perfect human being. Everyone has different
conceptions of what makes life satisfactory as well as vary in what certain characteristics are
desirable. So in order to allow freedom of choice, from a liberal perspective, these differences
among people s opinion should be respected in order to avoid mistakes of the past where
authoritarian Eugenicsdictated which traits/race were favored. Allowing individuals to have a
freedom of choice, according to Agar, it motivates us to adopt pluralistic view and monistic view
of human excellence. As a consequence, an evil doctrine is being alter into a morally acceptable
one. In other words, with liberal Eugenics everyone is free to follow their personal conception of
human excellence without being dictated by an authoritarian figure like in past movements. But if

Illegal Immigrants Inside Our Nations Border
In 2012, a recent study found that there was nearly 11 million illegal immigrants inside our
nations border. This has been a recurring problem going on since the late 19th century when the
federal law was passed which prohibited entry of convicts and prostitutes. Although this isn t the
case of everyone crossing our nations borders, it is still a national problem. Not allowing more
people to infiltrate our country will provide americans with more jobs , will lower the
incarceration rates, and will allow american tax dollars to be spent elsewhere. Illegal immigration
laws have been around dating back to the late 19th century. In 1882 President Chester A. Arthur
banned almost all Chinese s immigration to the United Statesand shortly thereafter barred paupers,
criminals and the mentally ill from entering as well. Although this only affected a small percentage
of immigrants, there was now distinctions between legal and illegal immigration, which before

millions immigrants to pour into america legally. This number was dramatically lowered due to
the Quota Law that reduced it to 357,000 a year and limited the number of immigrants from any
one country. Which was reduced more and more throughout the years. However, the door was left
open for Mexicans who could work for less pay than the northern europeans. But it was not to last,

Lawrence V. Texas Essay
Lawrence v. Texas In the case Lawrence v. Texas (539 U.S. 558, 2003) which was the United
States Supreme Court case the criminal prohibition of the homosexual pederasty was invalidated in
Texas. The same issue has been already addressed in 1989 in the case Bowers v. Hardwick,
however, the constitutional protection of sexual privacy was not found at that time. Lawrence

The Law Enforcement Training Program
1.Currently program managers impose upon field commands artificial restrictions to serve in
collateral duties. These artificial restrictions can limit the local command s autonomy to assign the
best qualified member to do the job thereby resulting in lower quality performance for that collateral
duty. The Coast Guard needs to eliminate artificial restrictions imposed on field commands.
2.Law Enforcement Instructors (LEIs) are instrumental in providing initial and refresher law
enforcement training to members of their crew. They are the cornerstone of the law enforcement
training program and necessary to keep multi mission units law enforcement capable. Only LEIs
are permitted to sign off on initial and refresher certification for members training. Reference (a)
requires a member be an E 5 or above in order to be eligible to be assigned as a Law Enforcement
Instructor. This precludes E 4 members, or third class petty officers, from even being considered to
be an LEI, without regard to their experience or maturity level.
3.Some would argue that pay grade limitations such as the requirement to be a second class petty
officer or above to serve as an LEI exist to protect the integrity of the law enforcement training

class petty officers from even being considered is counterproductive. The spirit of the program is to

Political Changes in Europe Following WWII
Europe saw greater political changes than continuities following the 2nd World War.
World War II (WWII) was a pivotal event that reshaped the Europe very much in terms of
international politics. I agree to a large extent that Europe did see greater political changes than
continuities following WWII. The most evident changes of which were that the United States of
America (USA) and the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics (USSR) gained international
dominance in the world arena and that the United Nations (UN) was established following the
League of Nations demise.

The establishment of the UN followed the demise of the League of Nations, which was
established after World War I (WWI). However, the League of Nations hardly had any authority
to do so, since they had no military power and nations who were a part of the League of Nations
were not required to provide one. In addition, USA, USSR and Germany were not members of the
League of Nations, meaning that three of the world s most powerful nations then played no part in
supporting the league. Britain and France were the two most powerful members of the League of
Nations, however both nations had suffered much economic and military losses during WWI and
hence were unwilling to contribute to issues that did not regard Western Europe.
After the League of Nations failed to prevent WWII, the UN was established as a replacement of
the flawed League of Nations to maintain international peace and promote cooperation. In
addition, the International Court of Justice (ICJ) was formed by the UN Charter, and its
jurisdictions can be enforced by the UN Security Council (but is subject to the veto power of the
five permanent members of the council). The UN has helped to diffuse the tension between USA
and USSR over the Cuban Crisis of 1962, succeeded in averting the Arab Israel war in 1967 and so
on, proving the capability and functions of the UN.
Since its establishment, the UN has solved

around characters who engage in current day life and situations, often true situations which are
unscripted and spontaneous, captivating audiences by putting them in the shoes of cast members

honor in the Cave? essentially questioning the intent of their imprisonment. Socrates also poses
the idea that if shapes and shadows were introduced, would they think of those things as reality
since they don t know of reality above them? This idea is intensified in The Truman Show, as
Truman is placed not in a cave, but in a massive dome which is similar to the environment on the

shadows, the world around truman is a simulation of reality which entices viewers who want to

most comfortable, to which Glaucon responds with Yes, he would prefer any fate to such a life. In
The Truman Show, Truman is placed in a similar decision, where Christof attempts to convince
Truman to stay by telling him how harsh the outside world is and how in his world you have

People don t like to bring family or friends over while they are on vacation just to feed their fish.
I would suggest going to a fish store and picking up items you need a few days before you go on

and put fish flakes inside of them. They will turn every day and feed the fish flakes while you
are gone. You need to remember to keep the feeders on the opposite sides of the bubbler or they
will clog with water and the fish feeder will stop working. You will need to take a look at your
fish before you leave for vacation. If you notice that their fins are torn or they have white
speckles on their gills or fins you will need to give them medication for fin rot and ich. Make
sure that your bubbler, filter and heaters are working properly before you leave for vacation. If
your power goes out the filter may kick back on along with everything else. I wouldn t suggest
putting everything on a plug in that can be shut off with a button because your other animals,
dogs and cats, can shut off the power strips and cut off bubblers and filters. You will want to
change the water at least 20 percent before you leave for vacation. You can purchase feeders
which you put in your tank which last up to 2 weeks but I would grab several of them. Put them
in areas away from bubblers so that they don t disperse as fast. The 3 days feeders are usually
gone in one day. Fish can go a few days without eating but you can t leave them alone for weeks
without feeding your fish. You will need to give them quite a bit of food before you leave but
don t give them a lot of excess food because it will make the water cloudy and all the levels in the
fish tank will go up while you are gone. You will need to purchase either fish feeders you place in

Theme Of Women In The Yellow Wallpaper
The Woman behind the Wallpaper
There comes John, and I must put this away, he hates to have me write a word. (Gilman 469)
This quote is a prime example of the lack of freedom and control woman in the 1800 s have. The
narrator of our short story The Yellow Wallpaper is an excellent example of a Victorian Womanwho
expresses the theme of Female Oppression and inequality. Through use of literary elements such as
characterization, symbolism and imagery Gilman perfectly illustrates the social issues these women
struggle with.
Gilman uses literary elements such as characterization and imagery to help emphasize the
detrimental effects of female oppression. In the story the characterization helps to demonstrate the
struggles between Jane Doe and John. Her husband, John, often demeans the narrator making her
appear self centered. Perhaps that is one reason I do not get well faster. You see he does not
believe I am sick. (Gilman 468) This illustrates the toxic and unhealthy relationship between John
and his wife. John controls her by forcing her to believe all her issues are in her head, causing her
paranoia and delusion. Furthermore, this helps express how much power men hold over women
and how little control females have over their lives. Another example of how literary elements
demonstrate the overall theme of inequality of women occurs when Gilman describes their house
through immense imagery. One example of the amount of control John has comes through the dark
and eerie

Women s Status Of Women
INTRODUCTION
Throughout history and civilization women seem to have been in a constant state of evolution
either towards a submissive role or a strong role but nonetheless, changing. This paper will discuss
women from the lower and middle ranks in history and their status in the various civilizations.
This paper argues that the status of lower and middle class women deteriorated over time and only
the Paleolithic period seemed to comprise of a gender neutral society.
THE STATUS OF WOMEN OVER TIME
In the Paleolithic society, women seemed to have an equal contributing hand towards the survival
of the community. Men traveled and hunted while women gathered fruits from areas within the
vicinity of their residence. Although hunted meat brought home by the men was important, the
vegetables and fruits gathered by the women were equally as important for survival especially when
men failed at their hunt. The interdependence of the sexes ensured that one sex is not dominant
over another. (Bentley and Ziegler, pg.10).
The Venus Figurines (named after the Roman goddess of love) of early homo sapiens were small
structures of women that depicted prominent sexual features focusing greatly on fertility and new
life. These figurines are believed to also play a role in rituals to increase fertility. (Bentley and
Ziegler, pg.14) This shows that women were always subjected to their physical appearance and the
fact that they were seen as baby carriers.
From the Neolithic era, women are

The Perspective On Abortion From A Utilitarian View
Analyzing the perspective on abortion from a utilitarian view is quite hot and cold. In this we
weigh the pros and cons of each situation at hand. When there are multiple choices with different
utilities, or wen utilities conflict, we should always pick the greatest one. (Weston p.151) If a
person is to decide if a person be executed they must decide, which outcome is the superior one.
Killing a man who is possibly innocent or keep them alive but they may not be innocent. In this
situation not killing at all outweighs the other options. Think of it this way, it is decided that a
person will not be executed and instead spend life in prison. This wouldn t effect anyone for the
fact that they will still be safe from harm from this person. Then if they have the possibility of
being innocent everyone can have a clear conscience. If a woman is deciding whether to have an
abortionthere must be some situations to think about. If a woman is raped she should be allowed
to make that decision. Weighing the pros and cons on this life is tricky. A woman could get an
abortion and not realize she has aborted an innocent life. This is just the same as executing
someone who may be innocent. Innocence becomes a key word. For abortions people claim that it
is not life yet and there is no conscious thought. A fetus would be considered an innocent life. A
fetus has not yet committed a crime. A fetus has the potential to grow up to be a criminal but it is
unknown. Each situation must assess how

Importance Of Friendship In The Epic Of Gilgamesh
The Epic of Gilgamesh is an epic of friendship, death, and immorality. Gilgamesh was arrogant and
selfish, who abused his power as a ruler. The friendship between Enkidu and Gilgamesh changed
the mindset of Gilgamesh and the way he treated people for the better. Gilgamesh met his perfect
match when Enkidu came along, Enkidu was half man half beast, but looked and was strong like
Gilgamesh. Gilgamesh began to change his personality when he realized he isn t the only strong
warrior anymore. Enkidu is the hero in this epic poem because he helped Gilgamesh to alter his
cruel ways as a leader. Enkidu and Gilgamesh are the epitome of the saying, opposites attract.
Enkidu and Gilgamesh needed each other, and it showed towards the end of the epic when Enkidu
passed away.
Enkidu was as powerful and mighty as Gilgamesh. In the epic, Enkidu says, At these words
Enkidu turned white in the face, I will go to the place where Gilgamesh lords it over the people, I
will challenge him boldly, and I will cry aloud in Uruk, I have come to change the old order, for I
am the strongest here (The Epic of Gilgamesh, 122). Enkidu initiated the rivalry, but when he
faced Gilgamesh, he lost the battle. The Gods created Enkidu to challenge Gilgamesh to change
his presumptuous ways as leader. The epic poem states, When Enkidu was thrown he said to
Gilgamesh, There is no not another like you in the world. Ninsun, who is as strong as a wild ox
in the byre, she was the mother who bore you ... So Enkidu and Gilgamesh embraced and their
friendship was sealed (The Epic of Gilgamesh, 123). The fight allowed Gilgamesh to embrace
Enkidu as a warrior, thus, allowing them to become friends. They went on many adventures
together, Enkidu gave Gilgamesh advice on their journey but always stayed with Gilgamesh, even
if he thought it was a bad idea.
Throughout the epic poem, Enkidu and Gilgamesh grew closer and closer together, their
friendship turned deeper, and they acted like they were brothers. The epic states, Because of my
brother, I am afraid of death, because of my brother I stray through the wilderness. His fate lies
heavy upon me. How can I be silent, how can I rest? He is dust, and I too shall die and be laid in the

Laura Mullvey Male Gaze Essay
Male Gaze Theory Laura Mulvey
Laura Mulvey is a british feminist film theorist who coined the idea of the Male Gaze ; the male
gaze is essentially the way in which the visual arts, such as film and television are structured
around the male viewer, that is, that producers assume that the viewer is male. The theory
describes the way that media depicts women in terms of what men see. Mulvey also upholds the
belief that we live in a patriarchal society in which men set the vast majority of rules and
construct the views of the ideal visions, roles and male dominance over women, This is backed up
by the fact that only about 16% of media creators are female. Mulvey believed that women were
the bearers of meaning and not the makers of meaning. Within the male gaze theory, There are 3
parts of the male gaze:
Men looking at women
Men tend to look at women s curves, this is the idea that men tend to look at other parts of a
women s bodies and not their eyes. Which is why the camera in films also focus on other parts of

The Victory With No Name Essay
The defeat of the first United States army by a coalition of Native Americans is the focus in Collin
Calloway s The Victory with No Name. In this historical account, Calloway addresses what occurred
on November 4th, 1791, when an Indian army consisting of a variety of Indian tribes, led by Little
Turtle and Blue Jacket, ambushed the first American army near the Wabash River to protect
themselves from American expansion of the Northwest Territory. The American army, led by
Revolutionary War veteran Arthur St. Clair, was ill equipped with men, horses, and weaponry, and
ignorant about Indian whereabouts and tactics. Calloway organizes his argument by describing
America s desire for land, the invasion and settlement of Indian land, and the resistance formed by
Native Americans. Calloway continues by illustrating the defeat of the American army and the
aftermath of the battle between Native Americans and the U.S. By drawing on extensive historical
evidence that illustrated the events before, during, and after the battle, Calloway presents a detailed
historical narrative that challenges the idea that winners write the history...even when they lose and

  • 3. Cuban Missile Crisis Speech The Cuban Missile Crisis was one of those events that held people s breaths as the possibility of a nuclear war became more probable with every passing second. The whole Western Hemisphere (along with the rest of the world) was to be impacted by such events which made the United States commander in chief s address all that more important. Had John Fitzgerald Kennedy not addressed the people, Cuba, the Soviet Union, and all other countries in an effective manner, the fears of World War III with nuclear weapons would have become a reality. It is imperative, before analyzing a speech, to understand the circumstances at hand at that very moment and the historical context that surrounds it. The rhetor (John F. Prior to Kennedy, the CIA launched an invasion of Cuba to overthrow Fidel Castro which only made tensions between the US, Cuba, and the Soviet Union escalate which ultimately resulted in the Cuban Missile Crisis(History.com Staff). As per History.com, the duration of the standoff between the United States and the Soviet Union lasted thirteen days. In other words, the people in the Western Hemisphere and all over the world lived with uncertainty of how this would be resolved or if there was even a way to avoid nuclear war between the two powers. On October 14, 1962, an American spy plane made a trip over Cuba which provided photographic evidence that Soviet missiles were being installed there (History.com Staff). After the missiles were discovered, JFK delivered this speech to the American people, Cuba, the Soviet Union, and all other countries that were affected by this threat. John F. Kennedy s address to the nation begins by referring to his audience as his fellow citizens , in an attempt to set a common ground between him and the people. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 7. Virtual Reality ( Vr ) After standing in line at Best Buy for over an hour, I was finally given the chance to try a new piece of technology I had been following for several years. They fastened a thick headset over my face and I was instantly transported to a different world. Here, my hands held a bow and arrow and I began to shoot countless enemies to defend a kingdom from certain ruin. I was now a part of something that what was once fantasy and now only possible in this alternate world. These digital universes are now possible thanks to the recent introduction of Virtual Reality(VR), a piece of tech that allows the user to enter digitally created realms. The technology consists of a headset (that a user would place on their head), which covers one s face and sight with a big thick dome. Inside that dome is a screen that projects into the user s eyes, creating a world in which they can feel and interact in. The user can look around and touch things with their body, just like in the real world. This helps to make someone feel immersed in an alternate reality, hence the name Virtual Reality. This device has definitely had a big impact on the tech world and is a gamechanger to many. Because this device so new, it has yet to catch on with the general masses, leading many to think that this will not be the next big thing. Many believe the tech to be just another fad that will die out, as with Nintendo s Wii and its motion gaming. Others are skeptical about possible controversies that will arise ... • 8. Iron Curtain Speech Research Paper The Cold War was the state of tension between democratic nations and the communist Soviet Union. There were two opposing groups in the group. The United States and their allies formed NATO (North Atlantic Treaty Organization) and the Soviet Union and their allies formed the Warsaw Pact. His idea was inspired by the utopian wave which existed from mid and the close of 19th century. Howard (1902) idealized that in garden city, a 6,000 acre site would have 32,000 people living in. Furthermore, there was a sustaining potential which is the limit of the population density in garden city plan, so they would build a new garden city nearby when another city has reached the limit. In Howard s book, there is a central city surrounded by lots of garden cities which could afford 50,000 people. Roads and rail is the way linking those garden cities. The aim of garden city planning is to create a beautiful, sociable and healthy communities with both a good natural environment and high quality of housing affordability. • 10. Lucretius Writing on the Fear of Death Essay At the most basic level of subconscious thought, every living animal possesses a desire to stay alive. Usually, this instinct lays dormant, although in dire situations, we can be led to do unexpected things. In addition to this subconscious drive, there is a socially constructed motivation for fearing death. Thanks to the pervasive nature of religion throughout history, much of humanity has, at some point or another, feared the prospect of eternal damnation and torture during one s life after death. Although not every religion has a negative aspect of the afterlife, or even any semblance of an afterlife at all, those religions which do contain some such construct receive much more attention in this regard. Throughout history, many... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In On the Nature of Things, Lucretius argues that not only is the whole of the human body (both tangible parts, like organs, and intangible concepts, like the soul) created from distinct types of atoms, but that this is the basis upon which an afterlife may be disproved. One of the principle tenets of atomism is that the atoms people are comprised of provide the basis for physical sensations we might experience, such as heat, touch, smell, et cetera. Lucretius provides the corollary to this view by noting that without some mechanism for processing these input data, we would not smell things, or might burn our hands in a fire. This cognition of external stimuli is one of the key functions of the soul atoms which permeate our bodies. The soul, Lucretius says, is comprised of four distinct types of atoms: breath, heat, air, and a fourth, unnamed variety, which is more mobile than the other three (3.231). The presence of these soul atoms can be proved by observing a person s reactions to various ailments; sickness afflicts both the body and the mind, for example, demonstrating that they are intrinsically linked. In addition, because sensation may occur at any point in or on the body, the soul must be distributed completely and evenly throughout oneself. Atomism says that no atoms are ever created or destroyed, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 12. Consumerism And The Conformity Of Consumer Culture The dominance of capitalist countries has facilitated the conformity of global civilization and cultural environments resulting in an increase of consumer cultures (Sarmela, 1977; Chaney, 2004). As capitalism experiences a natural and unavoidable expansion, consumers engage with consumer culture creating invisible products such as social status, identity, cultures, and ethical relationships (Sternberg, 2017). There are two sides to consumer culturethat are the values held by society; those who conform and those who rebel (Turow McAllister, 2014). All participants of society align with either submission or resistance to dominant ideas, values, and social structures. However, as a result of continued progressive diversity and fragmentation, the distinction between submissive and resistance are blurred. Nevertheless, those who resist and rebel are still participants of consumer culture. Instead they instead form sub cultures in society with alternative beliefs, values and ideas that challenge the mainstream (Chaney, 2004). In order to better understand the relationship between consumption practice and the resistance of consumer culture, theories of reflexive project of self, prosumers, lifestyle commodification, and incorporation will be analyzed in relation to the vegan movement. Prominent media scholar, John Fiske (1989), theorized numerous ways in which the consumption of media and prevalent culture, even shopping itself, could be conceptualized as acts of resistance. Resistance can be defined as the ways in which a subcultural style and activity works to challenge the dominant social order (Southerton, 2011). Veganismis becoming an increasingly popular lifestyle choice for health and environmental conscious individuals and is viewed as a form of resistance to mainstream consumption practices. The consumer develops their identity as someone who does not use animal derived food or products of any kind such as; dairy, eggs, fur, leather, feathers, or any goods involving animal testing (Lawrence, 1993). Veganism is an extended form of vegetarianism, and though the term was defined in 1944, the concept of a plant based diet can be traced back to ancient Indian and Eastern Mediterranean societies (Suddath, ... One of the most pressing issues currently facing museums worldwide is the diminishing level of government support. Despite reductions in government funding, the sustained maintenance of museumcollections and facilities continues to require substantial resources. In the face of such difficulties, a growing number of museums have turned to innovative programming, specifically exhibitions, as a way to ensure financial viability through increased attendance. Given the growing competition for consumer leisure time in today s society, attention has shifted away from traditional scholarly collection based exhibitions, towards the populist exhibition format offered by blockbuster exhibitions. Through a discussion of Harry Potterв„ў: The Exhibition at the Powerhouse Museum and the First Emperor: China s Entombed Warriors at the Art Gallery of New South Wales, this essay will examine the two approaches museums are taking to the blockbuster model. It will be argued that although exhibitions reflecting popular culture are becoming increasingly more common, there are institutions that manage to reflect popular taste in ways that continue to advance scholarship and create opportunities for lifelong learning. • 30. The Law Enforcement Training Program 1.Currently program managers impose upon field commands artificial restrictions to serve in collateral duties. These artificial restrictions can limit the local command s autonomy to assign the best qualified member to do the job thereby resulting in lower quality performance for that collateral duty. The Coast Guard needs to eliminate artificial restrictions imposed on field commands. 2.Law Enforcement Instructors (LEIs) are instrumental in providing initial and refresher law enforcement training to members of their crew. They are the cornerstone of the law enforcement training program and necessary to keep multi mission units law enforcement capable. Only LEIs are permitted to sign off on initial and refresher certification for members training. This precludes E 4 members, or third class petty officers, from even being considered to be an LEI, without regard to their experience or maturity level. 3.Some would argue that pay grade limitations such as the requirement to be a second class petty officer or above to serve as an LEI exist to protect the integrity of the law enforcement training program. While, by and large, that may be true, preventing otherwise impeccably qualified third class petty officers from even being considered is counterproductive. World War II (WWII) was a pivotal event that reshaped the Europe very much in terms of international politics. I agree to a large extent that Europe did see greater political changes than continuities following WWII. The most evident changes of which were that the United States of America (USA) and the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics (USSR) gained international dominance in the world arena and that the United Nations (UN) was established following the League of Nations demise. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The establishment of the UN followed the demise of the League of Nations, which was established after World War I (WWI). However, the League of Nations hardly had any authority to do so, since they had no military power and nations who were a part of the League of Nations were not required to provide one. In addition, USA, USSR and Germany were not members of the League of Nations, meaning that three of the world s most powerful nations then played no part in supporting the league. Britain and France were the two most powerful members of the League of Nations, however both nations had suffered much economic and military losses during WWI and hence were unwilling to contribute to issues that did not regard Western Europe. After the League of Nations failed to prevent WWII, the UN was established as a replacement of the flawed League of Nations to maintain international peace and promote cooperation. In addition, the International Court of Justice (ICJ) was formed by the UN Charter, and its jurisdictions can be enforced by the UN Security Council (but is subject to the veto power of the five permanent members of the council). The UN has helped to diffuse the tension between USA and USSR over the Cuban Crisis of 1962, succeeded in averting the Arab Israel war in 1967 and so on, proving the capability and functions of the UN. • 32. The Concept Of Reality Television In The Truman Show And... The concept of reality TV was amplified with the film The Truman Show in 1998. On television, it is largely debated which show was the first reality TV show since some may class them anywhere from game shows to documentaries, such as Survivor or COPS . Reality TV centers around characters who engage in current day life and situations, often true situations which are unscripted and spontaneous, captivating audiences by putting them in the shoes of cast members to see if they judge situations like viewers would. Producers of such programming often pick cast members who can target specific audiences, such as athletes, working class citizens, or members of either gender who could relate to the average viewer. Socrates then introduces the idea that if the men were motivated by any form of prize would they prefer to remain in the cave or envy the men exalted to power and honor in the Cave? essentially questioning the intent of their imprisonment. Socrates also poses the idea that if shapes and shadows were introduced, would they think of those things as reality since they don t know of reality above them? This idea is intensified in The Truman Show, as Truman is placed not in a cave, but in a massive dome which is similar to the environment on the outside, although things can be manipulated by Christof and the production crew. Instead of shadows, the world around truman is a simulation of reality which entices viewers who want to see how he acts not knowing about the illusions which surrounds his life. Socrates, who is speaking to Glaucon, asks him if the men would rather live in reality or in shadows where they are most comfortable, to which Glaucon responds with Yes, he would prefer any fate to such a life. • 36. Theme Of Women In The Yellow Wallpaper The Woman behind the Wallpaper There comes John, and I must put this away, he hates to have me write a word. (Gilman 469) This quote is a prime example of the lack of freedom and control woman in the 1800 s have. The narrator of our short story The Yellow Wallpaper is an excellent example of a Victorian Womanwho expresses the theme of Female Oppression and inequality. Through use of literary elements such as characterization, symbolism and imagery Gilman perfectly illustrates the social issues these women struggle with. Gilman uses literary elements such as characterization and imagery to help emphasize the detrimental effects of female oppression. In the story the characterization helps to demonstrate the struggles between Jane Doe and John. Her husband, John, often demeans the narrator making her appear self centered. Perhaps that is one reason I do not get well faster. You see he does not believe I am sick. (Gilman 468) This illustrates the toxic and unhealthy relationship between John and his wife. John controls her by forcing her to believe all her issues are in her head, causing her paranoia and delusion. Furthermore, this helps express how much power men hold over women and how little control females have over their lives. Another example of how literary elements demonstrate the overall theme of inequality of women occurs when Gilman describes their house through immense imagery. One example of the amount of control John has comes through the dark and eerie ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 37. Women s Status Of Women INTRODUCTION Throughout history and civilization women seem to have been in a constant state of evolution either towards a submissive role or a strong role but nonetheless, changing. This paper will discuss women from the lower and middle ranks in history and their status in the various civilizations. This paper argues that the status of lower and middle class women deteriorated over time and only the Paleolithic period seemed to comprise of a gender neutral society. THE STATUS OF WOMEN OVER TIME In the Paleolithic society, women seemed to have an equal contributing hand towards the survival of the community. Men traveled and hunted while women gathered fruits from areas within the vicinity of their residence. Although hunted meat brought home by the men was important, the vegetables and fruits gathered by the women were equally as important for survival especially when men failed at their hunt. The interdependence of the sexes ensured that one sex is not dominant over another. (Bentley and Ziegler, pg.10). The Venus Figurines (named after the Roman goddess of love) of early homo sapiens were small structures of women that depicted prominent sexual features focusing greatly on fertility and new life. These figurines are believed to also play a role in rituals to increase fertility. (Bentley and Ziegler, pg.14) This shows that women were always subjected to their physical appearance and the fact that they were seen as baby carriers. From the Neolithic era, women are ... • 39. The Perspective On Abortion From A Utilitarian View Analyzing the perspective on abortion from a utilitarian view is quite hot and cold. In this we weigh the pros and cons of each situation at hand. When there are multiple choices with different utilities, or wen utilities conflict, we should always pick the greatest one. (Weston p.151) If a person is to decide if a person be executed they must decide, which outcome is the superior one. Killing a man who is possibly innocent or keep them alive but they may not be innocent. In this situation not killing at all outweighs the other options. Think of it this way, it is decided that a person will not be executed and instead spend life in prison. This wouldn t effect anyone for the fact that they will still be safe from harm from this person. Then if they have the possibility of being innocent everyone can have a clear conscience. If a woman is deciding whether to have an abortionthere must be some situations to think about. If a woman is raped she should be allowed to make that decision. Weighing the pros and cons on this life is tricky. A woman could get an abortion and not realize she has aborted an innocent life. This is just the same as executing someone who may be innocent. Innocence becomes a key word. For abortions people claim that it is not life yet and there is no conscious thought. A fetus would be considered an innocent life. • 40. Importance Of Friendship In The Epic Of Gilgamesh The Epic of Gilgamesh is an epic of friendship, death, and immorality. Gilgamesh was arrogant and selfish, who abused his power as a ruler. The friendship between Enkidu and Gilgamesh changed the mindset of Gilgamesh and the way he treated people for the better. Gilgamesh met his perfect match when Enkidu came along, Enkidu was half man half beast, but looked and was strong like Gilgamesh. Gilgamesh began to change his personality when he realized he isn t the only strong warrior anymore. Enkidu is the hero in this epic poem because he helped Gilgamesh to alter his cruel ways as a leader. Enkidu and Gilgamesh are the epitome of the saying, opposites attract. Enkidu and Gilgamesh needed each other, and it showed towards the end of the epic when Enkidu passed away. Enkidu was as powerful and mighty as Gilgamesh. In the epic, Enkidu says, At these words Enkidu turned white in the face, I will go to the place where Gilgamesh lords it over the people, I will challenge him boldly, and I will cry aloud in Uruk, I have come to change the old order, for I am the strongest here (The Epic of Gilgamesh, 122). Enkidu initiated the rivalry, but when he faced Gilgamesh, he lost the battle. The Gods created Enkidu to challenge Gilgamesh to change his presumptuous ways as leader. The epic poem states, When Enkidu was thrown he said to Gilgamesh, There is no not another like you in the world. Ninsun, who is as strong as a wild ox in the byre, she was the mother who bore you ... So Enkidu and Gilgamesh embraced and their friendship was sealed (The Epic of Gilgamesh, 123). The fight allowed Gilgamesh to embrace Enkidu as a warrior, thus, allowing them to become friends. They went on many adventures together, Enkidu gave Gilgamesh advice on their journey but always stayed with Gilgamesh, even if he thought it was a bad idea. Throughout the epic poem, Enkidu and Gilgamesh grew closer and closer together, their friendship turned deeper, and they acted like they were brothers. • 41. Laura Mullvey Male Gaze Essay Male Gaze Theory Laura Mulvey Laura Mulvey is a british feminist film theorist who coined the idea of the Male Gaze ; the male gaze is essentially the way in which the visual arts, such as film and television are structured around the male viewer, that is, that producers assume that the viewer is male. The theory describes the way that media depicts women in terms of what men see. Mulvey also upholds the belief that we live in a patriarchal society in which men set the vast majority of rules and construct the views of the ideal visions, roles and male dominance over women, This is backed up by the fact that only about 16% of media creators are female. Mulvey believed that women were the bearers of meaning and not the makers of meaning. Within the male gaze theory, There are 3 parts of the male gaze: Men looking at women Men tend to look at women s curves, this is the idea that men tend to look at other parts of a women s bodies and not their eyes. Which is why the camera in films also focus on other parts of the women s bodies. • 42. The Victory With No Name Essay The defeat of the first United States army by a coalition of Native Americans is the focus in Collin Calloway s The Victory with No Name. In this historical account, Calloway addresses what occurred on November 4th, 1791, when an Indian army consisting of a variety of Indian tribes, led by Little Turtle and Blue Jacket, ambushed the first American army near the Wabash River to protect themselves from American expansion of the Northwest Territory. The American army, led by Revolutionary War veteran Arthur St. Clair, was ill equipped with men, horses, and weaponry, and ignorant about Indian whereabouts and tactics. Calloway organizes his argument by describing America s desire for land, the invasion and settlement of Indian land, and the resistance formed by Native Americans. Calloway continues by illustrating the defeat of the American army and the aftermath of the battle between Native Americans and the U.S. By drawing on extensive historical evidence that illustrated the events before, during, and after the battle, Calloway presents a detailed historical narrative that challenges the idea that winners write the history...even when they lose and offers a narrative that shows both the Native American and the U.S. perspective, ultimately giving credit to the Indians for their victory.
