Discussion Of The Social Problem Healthcare Delivery
Discussion of the Social Problem Healthcare Delivery in Ontario:
A.Briefly discuss and define the social problem. Be sure to cite where you got the definition using
APA style. (3marks)
Health care delivery refers to the manner in which medical services are organized, managed and
provided, centered by the professionals who provide medical services to the Canadians. A good
health care delivery is to be able to provide and satisfied the patient with quality service in a
timely manner. In Canada, both the public and private sectors are participating in health care
delivery which makes it a mix public private system where the private sector delivers health care
services and the public sector is responsible for financing those services. (J. ... Show more content

All 12 provinces in Canada are guided by the provisions of the Canada Health Act. The provinces
and territories fund theses services with assistance from the federal government in the form of
fiscal transfers.) The provinces and territories each self will provide supplementary health benefits
that are not covered by the Act. (Health Canada, 2014)
B. Why is it a social problem? In other words, what makes it a social problem? (3 marks)
Social Problem definition: A condition that at least some people in a community view as being not
wanted.
Health Care delivery is a social problem in Ontario for many reasons such as Emergency Room
wait times, shortage of health care professionals, and care of seniors.
On top of this, according to an article from August 2012 by the Toronto Star Ontario hospitals have
the fewest hospital beds per person as they get the least public funding. Yet out of pocket health care
costs are the highest in the country. (Monsebraaten Star, 2012)
C. What is the origin/history of the social problem? Here you may want to look at origin and
trend, if applicable. (5 marks)
The origin of Health Care in Canada goes all the way back to 1914 when Canada was a colony of
in the British Empire. In 1917, Robert Borden along with his Conservative government introduced
military conscription but this policy became an

Main Features Of Romanticism In Literature
Romanticism is a very philosophical and artistic topic in English, it was mainly created during
the 18th century and was influenced by neoclassicism which is the meaning of western visual
arts, music, literature and more. It is the unique style of art, literature and music that shows the
classical side of everything. Neoclassicism was originated in Rome around the middle of the
18th century. Neoclassicism is more based of the ability than the emotion, because the topic is
filled with imaginative thoughts. In all of poetry, there was one very famous verse style that was
used a lot and that was the heroic couplet verse, this style is commonly used in narrative and epic
styles of poetry and keeping the lines rhymed. Friedrich Schlegel was a well known German poet
writer, he was a German man who wrote poets who was born on March 10th, 1772 in Hanover,
Germany. He became famous by being the first person to use the term romantic to define literature.
A big part of romanticismis the famous quotes that inspire the people, one great quote by Friedrich
Schlegel said: literature depicting emotional matter in an imaginative form. Another famous quote
that is similar and is admired by people around the world is one by Victor Hugo, who was a French
poet, the quote said: liberalism in literature . Emotion, freedom, and imagination are probably the
main focus points of romanticism.
What people love about Romanticism is the side of nature showed in all romanticism works, this

Why Data Mining Is The Extraction Of Knowledge From The...
Data mining is the extraction of knowledge from the various databases that was previously
unknown (Musan Hunyadi, 2010). Data mining consists of using software that conglomerates
artificial intelligence, statistical analysis, and systems management in the act of extracting facts
and understanding from data stored in data warehouses, data marts, and through metadata (Giudici,
2005). Through algorithms and learning capabilities data miningsoftware can analyze large amounts
of data and give the management team intellectual and effective information to help them form
their decisions. The intention for data mining is to analyze prevailing data and form new truths and
new associations that were unknown prior to the analysis (Musan Hunyadi,... Show more content on

These visualization tools that are made through the management team s queries, are synthesized
with the reports. Charts, tables, and graphs can help management teams make important decisions
by allowing them to see data in a quantitative view. The management team can use this new
perspective to understand all areas of their query and, in turn, they can make better and more
informed decisions.
How Business Intelligence Systems are used Business intelligence systems are the combination of
operational data and analytical tools to aid managers to comprehend the capabilities available in the
firm, the industrial trends, future development in technologies and the market and even their
competitor s actions and the resulting implications (Wang, 2014, p. 1083). There are many ways
managers can use the information a business intelligence system gives them such as understand
customer behavior, analyzing competition understanding investment options, and knowledge
protection.
Customer Behavior The market place, even at a local level, is more competitive then it has been at
any other time in history. Companies must put a major emphasis on gaining customer loyalty and
understanding customer behavior in order to compete in today s market place. Tuta et al. (2014)
offer that intelligent technologies provide new options for manages to understand the market place
they partake in and the competition in that market place. Customer Relationship Management

Research Paper On King David
King David had many sons and daughters. Most of them had tragic deaths or were physically
abused. But one of the king s sons would become the next king of Israel. He would also be the
wisest person to ever walk the earth. Although he would have many victories, he would also have a
few losses. This remarkable young child was named Solomon. Solomon was the tenth son of David
and the second son of Bathsheba. He had only grown up in the palace in Jerusalem, yet at a
young age he had much knowledge. He knew how brutal and dangerous the outside world was,
and he also knew what it was like to be treated with respect and give respect. After his father

Solomon sent a message back to Hiram explaining how he was going to build a temple to honor
the Lord. He then asked if he could borrow some supplies to build the temple with. The king
happily sent Solomon what he needed and awaited the creation of the temple. The temple was 90
feet long, 30 feet across, and 45 feet high. After 7 years, the temple was finally done.
Sadly, Solomon s reign wasn t all great. He had over 700 romantic relationships with different
women. Some of these women worshiped different gods, and Solomon turned his back on God.
Many of these wives were from foreign countries, and Solomon was using them to get allies. This
disappointed God and the people of Israel.
If the life of Solomon could be summed up in one verse, it would be 2 Chronicles 9:23. It states
And all the kings of the earth were seeking the prescence of Solomon, to hear his wisdom which
God had put in his heart. Solomon alone solved many people s personal problems, and he was a
good people person. Even though he had some bad decisions, he was a faithful king and helped
Israel become an even better nation. He was a faithful servant to God in the beginning and was a
great leader for Israel for 40

The Sociological Theories Of Sociology
1.What is Sociology and who was the founder of Sociology? When and how did Sociology emerge
as a field of study?
Sociology is study of the human society by observing and doing experiment. Sociology is mainly
study in two ways; basic/pure and applied. Auguste Comte was the founder of sociology. Sociology
was emerged as a field of study during the 1920s and 1930s. It becomes field of study because
people started to observe a lot of things on a society such as: inequality, discrimination, poorness
and many more. So, people started to use their theory to study about the societies in terms of
sociology.

4.What are the 5 steps in the scientific research process?
First step of the scientific research process is to develop a research question. It means,
researchers need to decide the topic they are interested to study. They also need to get fund for
their research project on first steps to make their research success. Second step is, researchers
need to design their research based on what they are going study. Their third step is to collect the
data by doing interviews, surveys and web searches. Fourth step is to analyze and organize the data
to discover patterns. Fifth step is to make conclusions of research. After developing strong
conclusions, they can imply it on broader populations.
5.What are the 6 tools of research and give an example for each?
The 6 tools of research are: survey research, participant observation, controlled experiments,
content analysis, historical research and evaluation research. One example of survey research is
to ask general questions based on their research topic by going people s home door to door.
Example of participant observation is researchers hanging out several times with the peoples
related to their research topic. Example of controlled experiments is to determine cause and effect
of research, then decide to expose or not to expose the information on out. Example of content
analysis is to verify the data based on what

French Revolution Constitutional Church
Immediately, a proposal was made to halt the taking of solemn vows. This development associated
the Church with the scheming and corruption that had been featured in anticlerical literature of the
eighteenth century, as well as prepared the way for the closure of France s monasteries and the
departure of their inhabitants. The Assembly hoped that the sale of monasteries and their contents
would help to stabilize the nation s finances. Thousands of letters of protest met the
announcements; the new French state had not only taken control of the revenue and property of the
Church, but also seemed to be redefining the boundaries between church and state. The Assembly
became charged with the financial administration of the Church, and took the... Show more content

Its early losses cast further suspicion on refractory clergymen and their followers, now suspected of
conspiring with the enemy. The collapse of the monarchy on August 10 provided an added impetus
for the destruction of anything associated with the ancien rГ©gime. Thus, the Assembly suppressed
all remaining religious orders, even those staffing schools and hospitals, and ordered that the
remaining non jurors to leave, or to be arrested and deported. Suspicion furthered when news
arrived that the fortress town had fallen to the allied Prussian forces, and Parisians believed that
imprisoned counter revolutions were preparing to ally themselves with the enemy. Such paranoia
led to an outbreak of preventative justice when Parisians descended on the city s prison,
slaughtering over a thousand prisoners in what would later be known as the September Massacres.
Such violence made clear the distrust that would prevent any reconciliation between the Church and

Age Discrimination in Madigan v. Levin Essay
Basics:
The Supreme Court case to be closely followed and reviewed for class this semester is Madigan
v. Levin. This is a case of the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois. Lisa
Madigan is the petitioner, with Harvey N. Levin being the respondent. On Monday, March 18,
2013, the case was granted and on Monday, October 7, 2013, it was argued. (OYEZ, Inc., 2013)
Facts of the Case: This is a case of age discrimination. On September 5, 2000, Harvey N. Levin
was hired as an Illinois Assistant District Attorney, but was then terminated a little under six years
later on May 12, 2006. Being that Levin was over the age of sixty, Levin believed this firing was

This case seemed to be simply put, but it was as if the counsel for the petitioner Michael A. Scodro
could not comprehend this completely.
In this case, a group of law professors filed an amicus brief, with the argument that jurisdiction was
lacking by the Seventh Circuit to decide on the issue at hand. The oral argument began with
Scodro, and it seemed as if the entire time the counsel was talking the Justices were bored and
somewhat annoyed with even having to hear this argument. There were many instances where
Scodro was cut off and it was apparent that the Court was fairly over this case before the argument
was even heard.
Scodro began the petitioners argument by saying, Congress has crafted a comprehensive body of
administrative and judicial procedures and remedies that are tailored specifically to combatting
discrimination against older workers. (OYEZ, Inc., 2013), to which Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg
produced the question, What authority did the Seventh Circuit have to deal with the question under
the Age Discrimination Act? (OYEZ, Inc., 2013). It was later decided that the Seventh Circuit did
not have any authority with the question brought forth. Scodro began to cite cases, but was soon
shot down by the Court.

Gender Themes In Whale Rider
In whale rider by Niki Caro, there are several different themes that portrayed throughout the

their struggle to find a new one. Three themes are prominently displayed throughout the film. The
corruption of man vs the sacredness of nature, tradition vs modernity, and female role models vs

obstacles in their lives.. The main protagonist of the story, Paikea, as well as many of the other

characters that others can come to depend on within their community. The stories of each female
character is shown as a way to empower young women by giving examples of heroines that are,

particularly touching in the that setting of Whangara, whose chief Koro refuses to see women as

The Spanish American War was truly a defining moment in U.S. History. After the U.S. defeated
the Spanish, it gained control over Cuba, Puerto Rico, and the Philippines. Also by defeating
them, they proved to the rest of the world that they were a nation who could hold their own. It
had finally seemed that the U.S was a dominant world power. The U.S. soon began using the

U.S. and they had finally found a starting place with these new lands. Of course, like all world

before the U.S. freed the Filipinos from Spanish rule, they had promised them freedom.

Race In The Last Of The Mohicans
The issue of race is an important idea in The Last of the Mohicans and can be shown through the
characters view of a person and obedience and goodness and intelligence and how they act. Each
character has a different perspective and how it affects them. It can affect how people are treated
and whether they are seen as intelligent or not. Also, there could be inter Indian racismwith the
Mohicans towards the Huron s or vice a verse which we will see affecting everyone else as time

Our first question is does race determine whether a character is good or bad? In the book, we see the
Mohicans who are of a different race and yet they are still a noble and just race, but we also have
the Huron who are bad and are attacking the Mohicans.

humoral responses that can be activated in the early phase of infection upon interaction with

Glasnost and the Political Context of Gorbachev s Reforms
Did Gorbachev implement Glasnost with the aim of turning the Soviet Union into a democratic
capitalist economy?
A: Plan of the Investigation
Did Gorbachev implement Glasnost with the aim of turning the Soviet Union into a democratic
capitalist economy? Thesis: Glasnost was a means to achieve Gorbachev s broader political
reforms, however, these reforms did not include the installation of a democratic, capitalist economy.
At the time Gorbachev implemented Glasnost, he intended for the Communist Party to remain the
only party and for the Government to own most of the major enterprises.
The democratization, economic liberalization, and eventual collapse of the Soviet Union is
commonly attributed to Mikhail Gorbachev s Perestroika and Glasnost reforms during the period
of 1985 1991. This purpose of these reforms is still a trenchant question as the countries of the old
Soviet Union, particular Russia, are being pressured to further liberalize their economies.
This study will examine Gorbachev s understanding of the Glasnost policy and the role of
Glasnost in Gorbachev s larger political reform program with the help of the Gorbachev Factor, by
Archie Brown, and Gorbachev s Glasnost, by Joseph Gibbs.

Canterbury Tales
Essay Test In The Canterbury Tales, by Geoffrey Chaucer, each character, such as the Pardoner,
Wife of Bath, and the Franklin, epitomizes their spirit and reputation through the tales they tell.
The Pardoner uses his tale as a gimmick to make money, because he is a greedy man. The way
his tale illustrates each sin, every listener can relate to the three brothers and feel their guilt. The
Wife of Bath s Tale expresses her own values in the way the Knight is given a second chance after
raping the young virgin. This greatly undermines her idea of the value of women. Because the
Wife of Bath is so sexual, and lacks respect for her self, the Knight s actions and forgiveness
represent her own attitude on men versus women. Lastly, The... Show more content on

The Wife of Bath s tale also demonstrates how important she thinks physical appearance is. Because,
even after the knights immoral behavior, he is granted with a beautiful, trusting wife in the end. It
is, however, the woman s beauty that delights the knight, not her trustworthy manner. Cast up the
certain, husband. Look at me! / And when indeed the knight had looked to see,/ Lo, she was
young and lovely, rich in charms./ In ecstasy he caught her in his arms,/ His heart went bathing
in a bath of blisses/ And melted in a hundred thousand kisses,/ And she responded in the fullest
measure/ With all that could delight or give him pleasure. (292). The unexpected, and somewhat
undeserved ending for the knight, expressed how forgiving, and fond of men the Wife of Bath
truly is. Her choice of fate for this Knight is what makes this tale so appropriate for the Wife of
Bath. A woman less reliant on the male sex would choose a bleaker fate for such an immoral man.
The Franklin s tale is very appropriate for his character because of its pleasant tone and trusting
values. The Franklin chooses to tell a tale about trust, joy and faithfulness towards ones lover.
Although the poem contains conflict, the ending is positive, and the integrity the wife possesses
shows how the Franklin has strong faith in the human race, as well as

In the article Detecting the snake in the grass: Attention to fear‐relevant stimuli by adults and
young children published by Psychological Science authors Vanessa LoBue and Judy S. DeLoache
analyze the evidence that children detect threatening stimuli more promptly than other types of
stimuli. In this experiment, adults and children were presented with images with both threatening
and non threatening stimuli. The images were presented on a touch screen and participants were
asked to press on the threatening stimuli. The objective of this experiment was to determine
whether people could detect stimuli that are evolutionarily pertinent early in life. The hypothesis is
that the threatening stimuli will be detected more quickly that the other types of non threatening
stimuli. Three experiments were performed on both adults and children, and both detected snakes
more rapidly than the other aspects of the image, including butterflies and frogs. This research study
contributed to psychological research advancement by providing evidence of better visual detection
of threatening stimuli due to evolutionary relevance. Moreover, the research findings discussed in
the article Detecting the snake in the grass: Attention to fear‐relevant stimuli by adults and
young children by authors Vanessa LoBue and Judy S. DeLoache relate to human subject research
because it is an observational study using both children and adults as participants. Data was

very little remnants of classic culture as things tended to look futuristic, fashion tended to be
flamboyant and what in previous times would have been considered risquГ© or totally
inappropriate became something that would not raise too many eye brows. Daughters of Darkness
is constructed with all those traits typical of 70 s art and it does so in a way that is considered
cheesy , however at the same time the film provides a fascinating take on the Elizabeth Bathroy by
combining elements of mythological and historical vampires in combination with modern day
religious thoughts thus creating a horror filmon the surface but something with much more meaning
underneath. One of the main horror elements is setting. The setting in Daughters of Darkness is
not particularly horrifying though. The film begins with the two newlyweds Stefan and Valerie on
a broken down train which thus traps them at a hotel until they can reach their destination. The
seaside hotel they stay at gives a sense of decrepitness and abandonment to it as the film takes
place during the winter so no one else is checked into the hotel. The hotel and the surrounding
areas have very little color to them the entire film almost seems like it is mainly composed of
different shades of gray black and white with the occasionally

Peru Is One Of The Most Important Incan Empires
Have you ever been to Peru? I have not been to Peru myself. I spent a lot of time researching this
country. Peru is a very interesting country. Here are some facts about Peru. Peru borders Ecuador
and Colombia to the north. So by having these borders it means easy trades for crops and
clothing. It also borders the Pacific Ocean to the west. So if the ocean borders Peru they have lots
of fresh fishto eat and use because fish is one of the most important part of the economy. Peru
borders Chile to the south. So even more trades than the other countries.

Planet Of Slums By Mike Davis
In the book, Planet of Slums Mike Davis discusses, why there are mast migration from the rural
villages to the megacities of the Third World. What megacities are is a city when the total
population in it exceeds over eight million. He also discusses how the treason of the state,
international banks and the ideas thinkers like Hernando de Soto makes the lives of people in the
urban south much worse. Urban south are cities like Mexico City, Delhi, Dhaka, Cairo, Beijing,
Lima and etc (Davis 4) that experience in major increase in population by more than ten times its
size from 1950 to 2004, it is cities in the third world. Mike Davis believed that, the government,
international banks and thinkers such as Hernando de Soto are the one responsible for making the
condition in the urban south terrible for the poor while good only for the officials and the rich.
Mike Davis says that after 1950, people moved from villages to the cities despite knowing that
the condition in those cities are bad. [In urban south people are poor and hungry so they do any
job to make money. Such as, picking up cigarette bud, selling body parts, and etc]An example that,
Mike Davis gives is why the population in the cities at china is increasing.
It is, instead, the small to medium sized cities and recently city ized towns that have absorbed the
majority of the rural labor power made redundant by post 1979 market reforms. In part, this is the
result of conscious planning: since the 1970s the

How Can There Be Limits To Parliamentary Sovereignty
One of the tenets of law has always been the ideal that Parliament is wholly sovereign, being the
conclusive controlling factor on which the United Kingdom constitution is based. Yet not all ideals

thought Abby and Jake s story was sweet and funny. Though I enjoyed it, and it was another
page turner for me, thus I really wish I would ve liked it more. I couldn t get past the fact that
Jake might possibility have some sort of multiple personality disorder, he has that passionate
music writer side that would melt every girls heart, and than he has that egotistical, cruel rocker
side. One moment he would act like the biggest jerk, and than next thing you know he is pouring
out of his heart bagging Abby to forgive her, and telling Abby that he has been waiting for

disorder. A randomized, double blind, placebo controlled trial showed that recurrence of
depression in duloxetine treated patients was significantly longer than Placebo treated patients.

defined that substitute performs the same or similar function as an industry s product or service by
a different means. For instance, one of the substitutes for the European airline industry would be
the Eurostar Railway. For example, a passenger who wants to travel to Paris by 23rd November
2015 the cheapest ticket he/she could purchase will be from the Eurostar (standard class) and it
only costs 146 pounds from start. And the starting price for Air France (economy class) will be
261 pounds. Meanwhile, KLM (economy class) starts from 250 pounds. On the other hand, the
timing for airlines does not have many advantages as well. Eurostar needs about 2 hours and16
minutes, Air France costs almost 1hour and 25 minutes and KLM needs about the same duration
with Air France as if it is directly flight to Paris and if there is a flight transferring the duration
could be 3 hours and 50 minutes mostly as their official websites showing. However, Porter (2008)

Women And Women During The French Revolution
During the French Revolution, namely 1789, men and women were both dealing with change in
government, society, and many different aspects of life. Two documents that represent the rights of
men and women are Declaration of the Rights of Man and of the Citizen and The Vindication of
the Rights of Woman. These two documents are similar in content because they describe how men
and women should be treated as equals in society. The Declaration of the Rights of Man and of the

The author of the Declaration of the Rights of Man and of the Citizen was technically the
Government of France. This document expressed the liberal and universal ideas of the
Enlightenment (Perry, 110). The idea and motivation of the declaration came partly from the ideas
of the American Revolution and from General Lafayette and Thomas Jefferson. This document was
largely influenced by the ideas of natural rights and altogether, the intended audience would be the
citizens of France in which the declaration and its contents were pertaining to. The articles in the
document establish sovereignty within the French people, and made apparent that everyone was a
Frenchman, and equal (Sherman, 521). In return, the French people favored the declaration;
however a good amount of the nobles and king did not. As for the contents of the document, the

Applying Dynamic Systems Theory Concepts And Ecological...
Introduction The purpose of this paper is to theoretically analyze a case that involves a six year
old girl with behavior problems believed to result from past sexual abuse. Using a holistic
biopsychosocial approach during analysis should provide useful information for applying theories
to show causes and effects of her experiences and behavior. At the completion of analysis, I will
have learned the importance of knowing the whole integrated systems, how to apply dynamic

strengths and limitations of theories.

This case is about Emma. Emma was a full term baby, and because she was full term, one could
assume all her major organs were fully developed. Her brain was normal for a full term baby, as
well. One could speculate the reason she met all early developmental milestones was due to being
full term. Looking from a neurobiological perspective, we know very little about Emma s brain;
however, we do know her conduct is of concern to both her mother and pediatrician. At a crucial
stage of brain development, Emma experienced sexual abuse. One could conclude that her brain
was neurologically affected which has resulted in behavior problems due to the condition of her
environment.

There are a couple of possible payoffs in this scenario. First of all, my sister got attention, and
she probably had a feeling that she justified her inability to find time to learn to drive and get her

seeing me feel dumb and disappointed. 3.The three perspectives of stress are: stress in relation
to stressors, stress in relation to response, and stress in relation to an interaction. According to
the perspective that stress is associated with the stressor, stress is mainly caused by exterior or
interior stressors and a person s perception has little to do with the amount of stress inflicted on
the individual. The response perspective of stress, highlights that it is not the stressor that
determines stress, but it is rather determined by how a particular person responds emotionally or
reacts to a given situation. In the interactional perspective of stress, stress is determined by an
individual s perception of a stressor or event. In other words, between the stressor and the
response is a cognitive stage in which the individual cognitively accesses the situation based on
factors such as, values, beliefs, and perceived controllability. Albert Ellis, for example believed
that much of the stress of mankind is the result of irrational beliefs people hold (Falikowski,
2012). For example, many people hold the irrational belief that life is far and therefore, when treated

The Definition Of Auteur
The debate about the definition of auteur has been going on since the 1940 s, the original writers of
the theory consist of a group of French cinema enthusiasts such as; Truffaut, Jean Luc Godard, Eric
Rohmer and Claude Chabrol. The theory first emerged in their magazine Cahier du cinema. It was
in this magazine that they wrote the basis of the theory. As John Caughie explains Traditionally, the
reference to the auteur in French filmcriticism had identified either the author who wrote the script,
or, in the more general sense of the term, the artist who created the film. In the work of Cahiers the
latter sense came to replace the former, and the auteur was the artist whose personality was written
in the film (Caughie, 1981). Also many of them believed in that the auteur should be the audio
visual voice who uses the cinema to show a personal statement and also depict their version of
reality. Alexandre Astruc and the writers of Cahiers André Bazin and François Truffaut

Analysis Of Mice In Wonderland
Throughout this exercise, I will review Malice in Wonderland: Dreams of the Orient and the
Destruction of the Palace of the Emperor of China written by Erik Ringmar (2011). This historical
analysis is particularly interesting to me as it portrays different western accounts of the
Yuanmingyuan, which was once a powerful historical symbol of the superiority of the Chinese
Empire; to its wilful destruction to demonstrate French and British supremacy. The destruction of
Yuanmingyuan is outraging me as their conducts show more about barbarian behaviours than
civilised values that such developed countries proclaimed. Moreover, the text in its simplicity of
writing style made an impression of amazement on me through the expression of wonder, but also,
it was a very smooth reading due to the coherent and organised manner in which the author
expressed himself. Malice in Wonderland aims at explaining the military and political relationship
leading to the destruction of the Yuanmingyuan perceived in the cultural and societal values
enshrined in the aesthetic narrators accounts of the palace from the middle ages to the mid
eighteenth century. Throughout, this historical analysis, Ringmar uses the language of wonder to
characterise such accounts and its evolution over time. Moreover, he distinguishes two different
postures that emanates from the power relation from the wonderer to the wonder. On the one hand,
there is an inquiring attitude which reflects an active desire to

Essay On The Battle For San Juan Heights
In the early months of 1898, fundamental events took place in fairly rapid succession that led up
to the Spanish American War and in turn the Battle for San Juan Heights. Together, these events
solidified U.S. public opinion towards the U.S. involvement in a war to liberate Cuba from

Garret Hardin The Tragedy Of The Commons Summary
In Garret Hardin s paper, The Tragedy of the Commons , he talks about the problem of
overpopulation and why it can t be solved by a technical means. He talks deeper about the
population rate and a supposed optimal population. Also, Hardin mentions the commons which are
the resources of our world. On this subject he argues the problems of how the commons are
unregulated which would lead to them being exploited into ruin be rational people. I will write to
argue why the commons are being protected regularly and how rational people can reason and
understand long term effect of their actions on these commons.
Hardin begins his paper by discussing a positive growth in population in a finite world. Finite in
the terms of the resources available for the problems we must face in the next few generations.
Specifically, the idea of zero population growth and how there is an ideal population on Earth.
People and cultures should be able to identify what their ideal population should be and once they
do, the population growth should hit zero. The reason why zero population is so important is
because of how many people are taking up resources of the commons. Hardin touches on the
difficulties of finding the optimum amount but understands the impossibility of it being solve in

Social Consequences During The Industrial Revolution
The Industrial Revolution was the transmission process of manufacturing, this took place in the
1700s and the 1800s. Before this time, manufacturing was done in a small level, usually done in
people s homes, using the truest and basic forms of machinery. But in the Industrialization age,
there was a shift to powerful, multi purpose machines, and big factories. This Industrial age brought
forward thousands of jobs for the men, women, and children. The Industrial Revolutiondid bring a
surplus and diversity of manufactured goods and improved the living in some of the middle class
and the wealth, but it also resulted in the atrocious living and working conditions for the poor and
working class. During the Industrial Revolution, the population in England doubled, between 1800s
to the 1850s. this increase of population shocked people in during that time. This increase of
population was one of the main reasons for social consequences during the industrial revolution.
For the first time in human history most people lived in urban centers. This change altered the
social relations that maintained in villages and small towns. In the growing cities during the
industrial revolution, the people had a greater sense of freedom, but also grew a sense of
alienation. Many of the people growing in these cities were poor former peasants, they lived in
horrible conditions; unsanitary, crime infested, overpopulated, and alcohol soaked urban slums.
These social consequences conditions were

Missing Staircases
John Corvino disputes in his article, Missing Staircases and the Marriage Debate: Is Same Sex
Marriage Bad For Children, that same sex marriage is bad for children. He opens by stating that
allowing gays to marry each other and give them equal rights and responsibilities benefits not only
them, but also those around them. John also starts by setting aside two claims that he feels have
little evidence, one that same sex marriageproduces children to grow up gayand second that children
with gay or lesbian parents will be teased. He also admits that marriagedoes protect children,
however it s not the sole purpose of marriage. John then opens with an example about a widower,
Walter, who decides to marry again at age 70. This new marriage will not produce any children and
yet people still congratulate Walter and support the marriage. They congratulate Walter not because
he will not produce out of wedlock children, but... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
John expresses that as a society couples are pushed towards marriage and divorce is highly
discouraged. Gallagher, a same sex opponent, holds that by endorsing same sex marriage one also
endorses same sex families and this goes against children being with both biological parents. John
recognizes that this argument has been created with good intent that children should have both a
mother and a father. John also admits that the argument is not vulnerable to either infertile couples
rebuttal, or the compared to what rebuttal. Still John sees this argument as a weak one. John
points out that no research has been done to see if children do better in heterosexual stepfamilies
or adoptive families than they do in same sex families. To conclude, John asserts that in denying a
group to marry sends a message that one is less than a full citizen and in excluding couples from
marriage children are not

Character Analysis Of Assef In The Kite Runnerf
The character of Assef is presented as a vile and heartless boy. He is disrespectful, a bully, a
racist and a rapist. Amir recalls seeing his eyes glinted with a light not entirely sane . He is also
referred to as a sociopath by Amir. Assef throughout the book commits horrific acts that are
unjustified most of the time or are as a result of someone questioning his beliefs which are
controversial.
Assef is presented initially as a sociopathic bully who seeks dominance over people, resorting to
using his famous stainless steel brass knuckles . Assef is incredibly violent if his rule is
challenged and used his knuckles to beat a boy unconscious and he grinned whilst doing so. This
shows not only his sociopathic tendencies but also his violent side which is prevalent throughout
the book. His quest for dominance leads him to do the unthinkable when he is challenged by
Hassan, a Hazara and forced to flee. Assef seeks revenge on Hassan later on in the book after the
kite fight. This is not only because of his authority being brought into question by someone much
smaller and weaker than him, but also and extension of Assef s hatred of Hazaras. This side of
Assef is hidden from the adults of Afghanistan, especially Baba because of his links to Hassan.
Racism is a massive part of Assef s character. He is not only extremely racist to Hazaras but also
plainly states his admiration for Hitler. There are many instances of Assef s persecution of Hazaras
but the main targets of

The Good and Bad of Racial Profiling
It has been said that racial profiling has been used more than once as a way to detain suspects that
arouse suspcion according to NAACP. Racial profiling is the suspicion of people based on race,
ethnicity, nationality, religion, or other immutable charateristics rather than evidence based
behavior. Eventhough statistics say otherwise racial profilingshould not be used as a reasnoable
right to detain an individual because it is unlawful, discrinmatory, and ineffective.

Many racial profiled victims walk away with minor traffic tickets, too often are unlucky and
their outcome is death. Some law enforcers seem to have the stereotypical idea that all african
americans are ignorant and poor. In relations to that if seen differently then that will arouse
suspcion to the law enforcer because it is so called unheard to see a blcak man with a nice car.
Theres even an actual story where that has happened On Oct 12, 1995, Johnny Grammage , a 31 yr
old african american male was shot and killed after being pulled over while driving the jaguar of
his cousins . That is just despicable an officer is only allowed to use a weapon if his life was in
danger or if he had weapon but in this case neither was true. Racial profiling does not only affect
race but it also affects religion. In most recent research In South Dakota there is a widespread
reports of racial profiling led to hearings before the state legislature, where indians testified about
being stopped and searched not only based on race but religion the constitution does foucs on that
too whereas where we a free right to practice and not be judged. A suspect should not be searched
or even stopped because of their race, religion, ethnicity, nationality, and orgin. They should be
detained because of a logical and ethical reason if not then their only making them another victim of
racial profiling. Bringing back up this term again

Erythroxylum Coca Cocaine
Erythroxylum coca, is a shrub that is native to the lands of Southern and Central America, and
Southeast Asia (1). During the mid 1800s, German chemist Albert Niemann discovered and
isolated the harmful drug, cocaine, from E. coca (2). Shortly after its discovery, companies such as
the Coca Cola Company used cocaineto add flavor to their carbonated beverages (3). Back then,
cocaine was actually present in just about everything from ointments to margarine. Cocaine was
even used medically as a pain alleviator due to its soothing properties. However, a type of wine
called Vin Mariani was the most popular of drinks because it contained approximately 6
milligrams of cocaine per ounce. A typical serving of wine is 4 5 ounces so that means one serving

Cocaine was the leading illicit drug in the late 20th century in America. It is suggested that the
use of cocaine may potentially lead to severe cardiovascular disease, other serious health issues
and even death. Despite these serious health risks, the Drug Abuse Warning Network (7)
reported in 2011 a total of 505,224 emergency visits nationwide in regards to cocaine use
suggesting that cocaine use still poses as a problem in today s society. There weren t any
antidotes available to be given for accidental overdoses until the major discovery of enzyme called
cocaine esterase (cocE) (8). CocE is capable of degrading cocaine and therefore the harmful effects
of cocaine are diminished. CocE has the potential to save lives of individuals that are unfortunately
under the control of cocaine.
CocE was isolated from the genomes of bacteria living around the plant, E. coca. CocE was
initially derived from Pseudomonas maltophilia strain MB11L (9). Shortly after, cocE was isolated
from the bacterium, Rhodococcus sp. strain MB1. Bacteria such as these have adapted to their
surrounding environment. These bacteria have acquired the specialized ability to use cocaine
produced by the plant as their sole source of carbon and nitrogen (10). In the environment of a
harsh toxin, cocaine, these bacteria can still obtain energy necessary to thrive and flourish.

Moshe Safdie is an architect who really examines how a building can shape an area. Not only
how the space may look but its functionality, impact on the environment, and impact on the
surrounding community. He seeks to engage and enrich the communities making unique and
inviting spaces to fit the needs of each project. (Safdie Architects) One of Safdie s most well
known buildings is Habitat 67 (or Habitat). The concept of Habitat began in Safdie s master s
thesis. He submitted the idea to the 1967 World Exhibition and, when it was accepted, established
his own firm to help see its completion. (Safdie Architects) A series of carefully planned and

Super Bowl Advertising Analysis
The Super Bowl is widely watched by millions of people and advertising giants use this
opportunity to compete and showcase what they have got. Sadly, the Super Bowl has become
less about the game and more about the ads. So ask yourself is it the game you re watching or
the ads? And as James Twitchell suggests the Super Bowl ads live on long after the game is
forgotten, that is the power of advertising. The job of an ad is to market the product to the
consumer making it as enticing as possible creating a demand for a product that otherwise would
not exist. We are constantly bombarded with ads on TV, magazines, radio or the internet that are
constantly trying to sell you a product and the internet has gone so far as to customize your ads

An Analysis of William Blake s Poem London Essay
In London , William Blake brings to light a city overrun by poverty and hardship. Blake discards
the common, glorifying view of London and replaces it with his idea of truth. London is nothing
more but a city strapped by harsh economic times where Royalty and other venues of power have
allowed morality and goodness to deteriorate so that suffering and poverty are all that exist. It is
with the use of three distinct metaphors; mind forg d manacles , blackning Church , and Marriage
hearse , that Blake conveys the idea of a city that suffers from physical and psychological
imprisonment, social oppression, and an unraveling moral society. According to William Richey the
phrase mind forg d manacles has two contributors, the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The use of the word blood to describe the state of walls can convey that the city is also filthy
with the greed of upper class citizens such as Royalty (Line 12). Also, that the city could be full
of the remembrance of the deaths of soldiers who have died for the purposes of carrying out
Royalty orders. Therefore, because the surroundings are so confined and unclean, it reflects and
reinforces the distress of ordinary citizens (Richey 2) Disease is another factor that contributes
to the distress of citizens. And blights with plagues the Marriage hearse (Line 16). The presence
of an oxymoronic phrase places an emphasis on the current state of London s marriage practices.
Marriage no longer represents rebirth and purity but is looked upon as costly and unclean. Men
and women become careless with their sexual activities and help spread sexually transmitted
diseases affecting not only themselves but others and future generations (Richey 1). It is the
presence of sexual promiscuity and the spread of sexually transmitted diseases that lead to the
death of marriage. The Church creates woe for citizens by acknowledging and advertising that
earthly suffering is permissible because heaven grants rewards to faithful followers who do not
complain (2). Since the Church bears so much influence and power, citizens feel they have no
other choice but to follow the advice given to them. Many are probably so miserable that their only

The stories of each female character is shown as a way to empower young women by giving examples of heroines that are, brave, strong, and dedicated, and can do just as much as any male without their help. This is particularly touching in the that setting of Whangara, whose chief Koro refuses to see women as potential leaders in Whangara s future. A long time ago, my ancestor Paikea came to this place on the back of a whale. Since then, in every generation of my family, the first born son has carried his name and become the leader of our tribe... until now. After the U.S. defeated the Spanish, it gained control over Cuba, Puerto Rico, and the Philippines. A: Plan of the Investigation Did Gorbachev implement Glasnost with the aim of turning the Soviet Union into a democratic capitalist economy? Thesis: Glasnost was a means to achieve Gorbachev s broader political reforms, however, these reforms did not include the installation of a democratic, capitalist economy. At the time Gorbachev implemented Glasnost, he intended for the Communist Party to remain the only party and for the Government to own most of the major enterprises. The democratization, economic liberalization, and eventual collapse of the Soviet Union is commonly attributed to Mikhail Gorbachev s Perestroika and Glasnost reforms during the period of 1985 1991. This purpose of these reforms is still a trenchant question as the countries of the old Soviet Union, particular Russia, are being pressured to further liberalize their economies. This study will examine Gorbachev s understanding of the Glasnost policy and the role of Glasnost in Gorbachev s larger political reform program with the help of the Gorbachev Factor, by Archie Brown, and Gorbachev s Glasnost, by Joseph Gibbs. • 18. Canterbury Tales Essay Test In The Canterbury Tales, by Geoffrey Chaucer, each character, such as the Pardoner, Wife of Bath, and the Franklin, epitomizes their spirit and reputation through the tales they tell. The Pardoner uses his tale as a gimmick to make money, because he is a greedy man. The way his tale illustrates each sin, every listener can relate to the three brothers and feel their guilt. The Wife of Bath s Tale expresses her own values in the way the Knight is given a second chance after raping the young virgin. This greatly undermines her idea of the value of women. Because the Wife of Bath is so sexual, and lacks respect for her self, the Knight s actions and forgiveness represent her own attitude on men versus women. Lastly, The... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Wife of Bath s tale also demonstrates how important she thinks physical appearance is. Because, even after the knights immoral behavior, he is granted with a beautiful, trusting wife in the end. It is, however, the woman s beauty that delights the knight, not her trustworthy manner. Cast up the certain, husband. Look at me! / And when indeed the knight had looked to see,/ Lo, she was young and lovely, rich in charms./ In ecstasy he caught her in his arms,/ His heart went bathing in a bath of blisses/ And melted in a hundred thousand kisses,/ And she responded in the fullest measure/ With all that could delight or give him pleasure. (292). The unexpected, and somewhat undeserved ending for the knight, expressed how forgiving, and fond of men the Wife of Bath truly is. Her choice of fate for this Knight is what makes this tale so appropriate for the Wife of Bath. A woman less reliant on the male sex would choose a bleaker fate for such an immoral man. The Franklin s tale is very appropriate for his character because of its pleasant tone and trusting values. The Franklin chooses to tell a tale about trust, joy and faithfulness towards ones lover. Although the poem contains conflict, the ending is positive, and the integrity the wife possesses shows how the Franklin has strong faith in the human race, as well as ... Analyzing The Article Detecting The Snake In the article Detecting the snake in the grass: Attention to fear‐relevant stimuli by adults and young children published by Psychological Science authors Vanessa LoBue and Judy S. DeLoache analyze the evidence that children detect threatening stimuli more promptly than other types of stimuli. In this experiment, adults and children were presented with images with both threatening and non threatening stimuli. The images were presented on a touch screen and participants were asked to press on the threatening stimuli. The objective of this experiment was to determine whether people could detect stimuli that are evolutionarily pertinent early in life. The hypothesis is that the threatening stimuli will be detected more quickly that the other types of non threatening stimuli. Three experiments were performed on both adults and children, and both detected snakes more rapidly than the other aspects of the image, including butterflies and frogs. This research study contributed to psychological research advancement by providing evidence of better visual detection of threatening stimuli due to evolutionary relevance. Moreover, the research findings discussed in the article Detecting the snake in the grass: Attention to fear‐relevant stimuli by adults and young children by authors Vanessa LoBue and Judy S. This place was one that had very little remnants of classic culture as things tended to look futuristic, fashion tended to be flamboyant and what in previous times would have been considered risquГ© or totally inappropriate became something that would not raise too many eye brows. Daughters of Darkness is constructed with all those traits typical of 70 s art and it does so in a way that is considered cheesy , however at the same time the film provides a fascinating take on the Elizabeth Bathroy by combining elements of mythological and historical vampires in combination with modern day religious thoughts thus creating a horror filmon the surface but something with much more meaning underneath. One of the main horror elements is setting. The setting in Daughters of Darkness is not particularly horrifying though. The film begins with the two newlyweds Stefan and Valerie on a broken down train which thus traps them at a hotel until they can reach their destination. The seaside hotel they stay at gives a sense of decrepitness and abandonment to it as the film takes place during the winter so no one else is checked into the hotel. Using a holistic biopsychosocial approach during analysis should provide useful information for applying theories to show causes and effects of her experiences and behavior. At the completion of analysis, I will have learned the importance of knowing the whole integrated systems, how to apply dynamic systems theoryconcepts and ecological perspectives when assessing a case, and how to identify strengths and limitations of theories. Biopsychosocial Assessment Biological This case is about Emma. Emma was a full term baby, and because she was full term, one could assume all her major organs were fully developed. Her brain was normal for a full term baby, as well. One could speculate the reason she met all early developmental milestones was due to being full term. Looking from a neurobiological perspective, we know very little about Emma s brain; however, we do know her conduct is of concern to both her mother and pediatrician. At a crucial stage of brain development, Emma experienced sexual abuse. One could conclude that her brain was neurologically affected which has resulted in behavior problems due to the condition of her environment. Psychological It took a great deal of courage for Emma to tell her mother about the abuse, and her mother was courageous enough to report it immediately and seek ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

First of all, my sister got attention, and she probably had a feeling that she justified her inability to find time to learn to drive and get her G2. Another, possible payoff was that my sister ended up feeling superior and smart while seeing me feel dumb and disappointed. 3.The three perspectives of stress are: stress in relation to stressors, stress in relation to response, and stress in relation to an interaction. According to the perspective that stress is associated with the stressor, stress is mainly caused by exterior or interior stressors and a person s perception has little to do with the amount of stress inflicted on the individual. The response perspective of stress, highlights that it is not the stressor that determines stress, but it is rather determined by how a particular person responds emotionally or reacts to a given situation. In the interactional perspective of stress, stress is determined by an individual s perception of a stressor or event. In other words, between the stressor and the response is a cognitive stage in which the individual cognitively accesses the situation based on factors such as, values, beliefs, and perceived controllability. Albert Ellis, for example believed that much of the stress of mankind is the result of irrational beliefs people hold (Falikowski, 2012). For example, many people hold the irrational belief that life is far and therefore, when treated ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 38. The Definition Of Auteur The debate about the definition of auteur has been going on since the 1940 s, the original writers of the theory consist of a group of French cinema enthusiasts such as; Truffaut, Jean Luc Godard, Eric Rohmer and Claude Chabrol. The theory first emerged in their magazine Cahier du cinema. It was in this magazine that they wrote the basis of the theory. As John Caughie explains Traditionally, the reference to the auteur in French filmcriticism had identified either the author who wrote the script, or, in the more general sense of the term, the artist who created the film. In the work of Cahiers the latter sense came to replace the former, and the auteur was the artist whose personality was written in the film (Caughie, 1981). Also many of them believed in that the auteur should be the audio visual voice who uses the cinema to show a personal statement and also depict their version of reality. Not only does the society barely exist, but after we see an editor of a newspaper yelling for exposing outrages, the film still doesn t show society in outrage or panic over the rise in mob brutality. The naturalism in Hawks film is very selective, he simply eliminates society. In Scarface where society should be threatened by the gangsters, it isn t actually threatened at all. • 39. Analysis Of Mice In Wonderland Throughout this exercise, I will review Malice in Wonderland: Dreams of the Orient and the Destruction of the Palace of the Emperor of China written by Erik Ringmar (2011). This historical analysis is particularly interesting to me as it portrays different western accounts of the Yuanmingyuan, which was once a powerful historical symbol of the superiority of the Chinese Empire; to its wilful destruction to demonstrate French and British supremacy. The destruction of Yuanmingyuan is outraging me as their conducts show more about barbarian behaviours than civilised values that such developed countries proclaimed. Moreover, the text in its simplicity of writing style made an impression of amazement on me through the expression of wonder, but also, it was a very smooth reading due to the coherent and organised manner in which the author expressed himself. Malice in Wonderland aims at explaining the military and political relationship leading to the destruction of the Yuanmingyuan perceived in the cultural and societal values enshrined in the aesthetic narrators accounts of the palace from the middle ages to the mid eighteenth century. Throughout, this historical analysis, Ringmar uses the language of wonder to characterise such accounts and its evolution over time. Moreover, he distinguishes two different postures that emanates from the power relation from the wonderer to the wonder. On the one hand, there is an inquiring attitude which reflects an active desire to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

On this subject he argues the problems of how the commons are unregulated which would lead to them being exploited into ruin be rational people. I will write to argue why the commons are being protected regularly and how rational people can reason and understand long term effect of their actions on these commons. Hardin begins his paper by discussing a positive growth in population in a finite world. Finite in the terms of the resources available for the problems we must face in the next few generations. Specifically, the idea of zero population growth and how there is an ideal population on Earth. People and cultures should be able to identify what their ideal population should be and once they do, the population growth should hit zero. The reason why zero population is so important is because of how many people are taking up resources of the commons. Hardin touches on the difficulties of finding the optimum amount but understands the impossibility of it being solve in this generation. Moving towards Hardin s main points. Before this time, manufacturing was done in a small level, usually done in people s homes, using the truest and basic forms of machinery. But in the Industrialization age, there was a shift to powerful, multi purpose machines, and big factories. This Industrial age brought forward thousands of jobs for the men, women, and children. The Industrial Revolutiondid bring a surplus and diversity of manufactured goods and improved the living in some of the middle class and the wealth, but it also resulted in the atrocious living and working conditions for the poor and working class. During the Industrial Revolution, the population in England doubled, between 1800s to the 1850s. this increase of population shocked people in during that time. This increase of population was one of the main reasons for social consequences during the industrial revolution. For the first time in human history most people lived in urban centers. This change altered the social relations that maintained in villages and small towns. In the growing cities during the industrial revolution, the people had a greater sense of freedom, but also grew a sense of alienation. Amir recalls seeing his eyes glinted with a light not entirely sane . He is also referred to as a sociopath by Amir. Assef throughout the book commits horrific acts that are unjustified most of the time or are as a result of someone questioning his beliefs which are controversial. Assef is presented initially as a sociopathic bully who seeks dominance over people, resorting to using his famous stainless steel brass knuckles . Assef is incredibly violent if his rule is challenged and used his knuckles to beat a boy unconscious and he grinned whilst doing so. This shows not only his sociopathic tendencies but also his violent side which is prevalent throughout the book. His quest for dominance leads him to do the unthinkable when he is challenged by Hassan, a Hazara and forced to flee. Assef seeks revenge on Hassan later on in the book after the kite fight. This is not only because of his authority being brought into question by someone much smaller and weaker than him, but also and extension of Assef s hatred of Hazaras. This side of Assef is hidden from the adults of Afghanistan, especially Baba because of his links to Hassan. Racism is a massive part of Assef s character.
