College s Value, college professor Eric Hoover explains his studies of college degrees and
concludes that attending college has greater benefits than we expect. Nowadays, when families
think of college, they think about the amount of financial burden instead of what they will gain
from attending. In this article, Hoover states, Yet the perceived benefits of attending college go
well beyond the dollars (Hoover 1). He writes how diplomas help receive better and higher
paying jobs. Hoover is persuasive by using statistics, interviews with undergraduates and
graduates, and acknowledging the opposing views as well as refuting them. Firstly, Hoover uses
statistics to strengthen his argument. Statistics have a way of changing a person s mind that if
they see that most of the majority pick a response over the other, they tend to lean towards the
majority. In the Pew survey, 84 percent of those with degrees said college had been a good
investment: only 7 percent said it had not (Hoover 1). The survey suggest that more people
believed that college has been a good investment, which is something that Hoover states in his

So, if i would have stayed at johnston i know i would not have graduated. When i first started at

greasers are a group of lower class boys who come from bad homes. They rely on only each other
for support and friendship. On the other hand, the sos are a group of upper class kids who get
everything they want they don t really ever hear the word no. They own nice things and come
from nice fancy houses with nice cars and lots of money. The book is very different from the
movie because certain scenes are cut out and some scenes and words exchanged between
characters are altered. The first difference between the movie and the book is in the movie Darry
pushed Ponyboy during an argument about why Ponyboy got home so late. In the book, after
Ponyboy returns home late Darry is furious and slaps Ponyboy, Ponyboy runs and finds Johnny

For this investigative assignment, I interviewed three of my closest friends about their
perspectives on bilingual education in the United States. One of my friends, who I will call A, said
that bilingual education is important for students because it helps them broaden their perspectives

to humanity. In his novel All the Light We Cannot See, Anthony Doerr reflects on the effects of
war on humans. In the French coastal town of Saint Malo a calamitous war is reaching its
climax. The readers see the evilness of this war through a blind French girl whose life turns over
because of the invasion. He captures the dark side of the war through Marie Laure s life. Doerr
manages to make us see, hear and taste the war with his use of diction and words. War is metallic

When describing the darkness in the city Doerr writes that the city has become a library of
books in an unknown language, the houses great shelves of illegible volumes, the lamps all
extinguished (179). Through the eyes of Marie Laurie the city has lost its roots, meaning and
language. As a result everyone including her is being isolated from the city. They cannot look at
the city and see their houses or the streets they used to walk in they only see dead bodies and
burned buildings. This is the main reason why they do not feel like they belong to the city. The
metaphor of lamps all extinguished is another example that shows that the citizens of the city have
turned their back to hope. Marie Laurie is a symbol of light and human spirit in this novel. Due to
