Talent identification in cricket is based on recent advances and latest technology. C-TIES system and drop off zones add a lot of weightage to this TID system
2. ONESIZEFITSALL?
"The Hindu" covered a scientific study by Center for
sports excellence - karnataka stating a formulation
framework for talent identification.
They advocate utilising the tests mentioned as
"NAMSLA" for different age groups
A critical analysis of the framework revealed some flaws
in the program
Current trends in talent identification in India
3. CURRENTTRENDSININDIA?
Existing talent identification programs are working on fractions rather than the entire process;
whilst also lacking the inclusion of various important talent identification variables
The current process lacks a step-wise system, accountability of the steps in the system, and
progress tracking for the same
According to the research literature talent development and progress, tracking should be a
continuous process.
The entire system should be an end-to-end one!
4. TALENTIDENTIFICATIONISA
MASSIVELYMISUNDERSTOOD
Half knowledge can be a dangerous thing for the performance
expectations in any system
A clear idea about the concept can do wonders in the sporting
industry, so approaching an expert will be a solution
Ideally, asking a sports scientist and medicine
professional will help
6. NATURALTALENT ID
PROCESS
Foundation phase:
Enrolling kids who like cricket
Collecting demographic data
Collecting anthropometric data to map the
following:
Peak height and weight velocity
1.
Relative age effect
2.
Enlisting players who have presence of Key
performance indicators like:
kinesio-anthropometric variables and skill
sets
Progression to youth
development phase
FOUNDATION
PHASE
(9-11YRS)
7. NATURALTALENT ID
PROCESS
Ask players to send video compilation of their cricketing
skills
Assessing kids on 3 important variables:
physical,
technical
psychosocial variables
Criteria priority score testing: A total of 14
tests to assess the player
Divide them into 3 zones based on their
score:
Green, yellow and red
Progress to professional
development phase
YOUTH
DEVELOPMENT
PHASE
(12-16YRS)
8. 3ZONESCLASSIFICATIONSYSTEM
Green zone:
Highest technical score
Will be subjected to elite
coaching
Yellow Zone:
Sub-optimal performance
4 months of coaching and
training
Re-appear for the test
Red zone:
Kids performing below average
in the test
Coaching for 4 months to
rebuild the foundation phase
Re-appear for the test
9. 3ZONESCLASSIFICATIONSYSTEM
Green zone: Kids who have
outperformed in technical,
tactical, physical and
Psychological testing - will be
provided with elite coaching and
support
Yellow zone: Kids who show
sub-optimal performance in the
assessment and are provided
with support in the fields where
they lack performance and
reappear for the tests every 4
months for promotion/demotion
Red zone: Kids who performed
below average in the assessment
will be provided with the
primary/basic coaching to build
up the foundation and will get a
chance to reappear for the tests
every 4 months for promotion or
continuation in the same
category
10. NATURALTALENT ID
PROCESS
Category A:
Overall excellent scores in all tests and
performance in the tournaments
This will be suggested by overall and relative
performance indicators
Category B:
Consistently underperforming players for 4-6
months
Category C:
Players who have been underperforming for 7-
11 months
Category D:
Players who have been underperforming for
more than a year
PROFESSIONAL
DEVELOPMENT
PHASE
(17-21YRS)
11. CATEGORYABCDOVERVIEW
A

Will be subjected to
highest level of
mentoring
Subjected to the root-cause
analysis of the problems and
solving them with the
hierarchical priority
Subjected to
counselling and
training both on and
off the field
A deadline for improving
performance and providing
required results will be given,
failure to do so will lead to
loss of the position in the
academy

13. The Cricket Talent Identification, Enhancement and
Selection (C-TIES) system uses OWA Aggregation
Operator and Relative Fuzzy Linguistic Quantifier
(RFLQ) to classify the cricket talent level of an
enthusiast into five different classes.
It also uses algorithms based on OWA, RFLQ and
NAC to identify a player's weaknesses and select the
most talented players from a larger group of players.
In short, helping tackle the selection bias, reduce
human error, and help formulate a team combining
both experts opinion as well as logistics

17. WHATISBIO-BANDING?
Bio banding is the process of clubbing early and late maturers into respective
training groups instead of placing them according to their age (U-14 and U-
16)
